Oh, buddies, welcome to another edition of the podcast here on a, we were just talking about in the pre-show, another rainy day here in the city of Calgary, according to Environment Canada, the 17th day with moisture, 17 rainy days out of, I believe today's the 30th. So just about half,

just about half of the days have been, been rainy and wet here in the city. No wonder you moved away. I mean, this is the shits. Farmers are, well, I can't, yeah, I guess if they've got the seed in the ground, the farmers are probably happened. I would think,

now. Yeah. Yeah. Mitigating the, you know, the, the whole, uh, drought, dryness, that, that, that, all those concerns. Because there was, uh, talk of, you're going to have to have water bans and, uh, all that sort of thing. It's been pretty quiet on that front.

But I would think probably about it, if it's a, if we get a sunny weekend somewhere, it's not, uh, just back off. unless you're really, really thirsty, if you could not drink, that would be great. We believe we might have a Pinder performance at some point during the show today. Can I ask a question on that front?

Yeah. If he calls in, is he automatically added? Or can we just, is it like I get a lot of phone calls on my telephone? Right. I don't pick up. No, what it'll be is on my screen here, I'm seeing all of this.

plus I have the chat on the one side. And then underneath in the bottom, there's a little kind of a thing. And I see my face and I see a screen with Jack is there. And then you're there. And if he comes in, another window will pop up and he'll be there, but kind of blurry or whatever.

It'll just be, but you know he's there. He only comes in if we allow him. They call it the green room. You'll be waiting in the green room. And you can't just barge your way in unless we say, okay, come on in, bud. So yeah, he could sit there.

Yeah. That's what I was wondering. Yeah. He could sit there. That's what would happen on the afterburners, where he would show up unannounced, just because he doesn't want to do the show, but then shows up to be part of the show.

So I would just kind of leave him there and then badmouth him, and then he'd eventually just leave. Or I would kick him out altogether. I'm not sure. I don't know if it was an oil or loss last night. He'd have probably been in here by now. He probably would have jumped right in. He'd have been so excited.

But it was not an oiler loss last night. night. It was kind of a reversal. What do you do? A, you know, a spinnerooney from game number three where one team has a great start, gets out to a two nothing lead, and then shits the bed the rest of the way.

That was quite a thing last night. Quite a thing. First shot on net, one nothing. Was it the third shot on net? Two nothing. Oilers, zero shots. The rink. dead quiet dead quiet

they're like we're fucked and then the star said okay so when we fly home tonight with that 3-1 lead what do you got you want to go and have some barbecue what are we doing having some beef ribs what are we doing can we golf tomorrow can we

because they shut it down yeah they did they did all together what the age if I'm Pete DeBore I'm having a hard time not really flying off the handle but it's the and it was obviously the reversal

of the game before what I don't understand and what noodles alluded to Frank has alluded to and other prognosticators have alluded where's the want where's the where is it yeah right like I watched that

the, um, Harley, put that shot into the pads and then playing a two on one short-handed and he does nothing. Yeah. I did want to ask you about that. Don't ask because I, how do you explain it? He does nothing.

It's like he's never played the fucking position before. Yeah. It's embarrassing. The power play has not been very good. They give up a short-handed. The, the penalty kill for the Oilers, 23 of 23, the last eight games. And they have been good.

They just. It seems to be very simple. They just put a lot of pressure on whoever's got the puck. We're coming at you. And you're going to have to make a play. And if you make a play, there's a good chance. You might catch us out of position because we're being aggressive on the penalty kill. But we're going to roll the dice and see how that goes.

And it's gone very well for them to the tune of 23 of their last 23. But yeah, Harley, now, I'm trying to remember who it was on the wall. He just kind of spins and sends it back to Harley at the blue line. Harley hits his own guy. He hits Marchman right in the took us with the puck. and then it's a two-on-one the other way. And to your point, he's skating backwards, but I'm not really going to take the shot

and I'm not taking the pass. So, but I'm here if you want to, if you need me. We'll take a look. I know Jack's got it there. It was embarrassing. And that's just one example. There's no reason to shoot that puck. There's no rush.

They haven't had a good setup yet. It's been a shit show trying to get in the Zon, own and get it set up. And he absolutely, look at, what is that? Yeah, he's got two options there. He can go back. You can just stop and hang on to the puck and gets everyone. Okay, let's set up.

Yeah, it's Duchen here on the wall who sends it back to him. You can put it back to Duchin or you can certainly, although, you know, the sticks there. Maybe you go back to Duchin or take a step. You don't have to move the puck immediately. Yeah. You can move your feet, take it towards the wall. buy yourself some time get it set up like you probably don't have the clip jack to go back further but they that whole power play they were running around they couldn't get set up yeah and they

finally get to a spot where okay we can settle things down here let's let's get the power play set up and don't be whoa and these are supposed to be your guys that have the confidence with the pot yeah i know yeah i know right um so and i I don't know what it is. If it's credit to, so there's a real good look at it. From the, yeah,

there's, there's no urgency to, to get that puck on. You don't have them outmanned in front of the net. You're not ripping a one-timer. You're being fucking lazy. And look at that. Yeah,

I would have a real, but the problem is that you're in a Stanley Cup semifinals. You can't go ranting around the room and getting out of hand. If you're Pete DeBore. But my goodness. but this again Harley's an example of what the Oilers proved the game before

oh we're going to get up and we're going to kick her feet up and we're going to be lazy about it the rest of the day. Yeah. What do you mean? And the thing was because that's in the second period. They, it felt like they had already kind of packed it in by then because you go through the sequence of events. It's one nothing early.

Wyatt Johnson with a great shot. The two nothing, it's Lendell shot goes off of Darnel Nurse because of course, and I'll nurse. Everything's going against him right now. Then Segan has that backhander in front. It kind of hits Skinner and he dives over to his, I guess it's his right, try and fight it off. Then the Oilers get their first shot on net.

And then the play where, I mean, nurse interferes with Ryan Suter, who tumbles into their frigging goaltender. And then McLeod is there at the doorstep. That was it. The Oilers did not look back after 2-1 with six and a half left in the first period. I don't know if Skinner had to make a challenging save of any kind. Dadanoff, he stopped.

He'd stopped Dadanov on a kind of a play, but Daddnav was half-ass tied up and had to shoot it. It kind of went back towards Skinner. But regardless, yeah, they weren't challenged. You got a guy, a goalie on the ropes or too early again. Where's the killer instinct? Like, and again, I'm, where was it with, for Edmonton? Am I misinterpreting this as, because the other side, how can you hang on to leads or want to put Carolina gave up, I mean, the Rangers poured it on them.

Yeah. You gave up a three goal lead. No, it's, it's been a story of the season. It's, I think it's, it's, it's a trait that we're seeing. Dallas, game today. No. Yeah,

it's, it's happening all the time. Yes. It's happening all the time. Blown leads and multiple goal leads. That was a 2-0. And much like in game three where Edmonton was roaring in the first and had other opportunities to go up 3-0-4-0-0 and couldn't do it.

Same with Dallas here. Rupa Hintz has a breakaway, shoots it and misses the net high and wide. There was that play by Seaghan and in front where the backhander is stopped. It could have been 3-4-0, and maybe it's different. But for a team that, has the depth and you would think the experience and is well coached and all of that. And they've been through this before.

They were to a cup final in 2020. And they've been to, they've done this thing before. To, to just now give you have to give the Oilers some credit because they were a lot to handle. They turned things on. But it was one of the things I was going to ask you, how much of it was the Oilers really taking over the game and how much it was just the Oilers taking what was presented to them, which was the stars just sitting right back.

And it did not feel like there was a lot of, I think it was a lot of fight from Dallas, which is the latter. And I don't think it's just a Dallas issue, because you've seen it in other series and with other teams. And you saw it with Edmonton two nights ago. So it's, it seems like it's a league wide thing. And maybe it's great. Maybe, you know what I mean?

Like in the 90s, Jersey gets up by two, go to sleep. Yeah, turn the game off. It's over. Monopoly, anyone? Because this is over. They're going to Danico this thing right to the final buzzer. And so I don't like that either. But I just, and the Harley thing stands out because we've watched it.

We're looking at it. I don't see any desperation or intuition as to how to win a hockey game at that point. There's no, the, the, hockey sense or, willingness to have some desperation to make a play again they might admit to might score but you did nothing to stop it yeah yeah you did nothing like you did absolutely nothing and so you can so you excuse the shot why did you make that shot that's well i just okay okay okay but okay what about the two-on-one situation well exactly well what yeah and you didn't do anything And the bulk of those goals, now the, the McLeod one was kind of a, I mean, it was kind of a shit fest there in front.

But again, it's Cory Perry, Ryan McLeod, guys that had, McLeod was a healthy scratch the game. It's been five straight without Cory Perry. That line shouldn't be giving you fits. And it was a, it's a dumb play, I guess, sooner. I had to go back and see, what the fuck is this guy doing? You've played a thousand games or whatever it is. Don't fall on your goalie, but he kind of got tangled up with nurse. Okay.

But then from that point on, the. the Bouchard goal is off of a rebound that's essentially an odd man rush or turns into because there's no Bouchard, it's not even him joining the rush. He's got the zone to himself. Everybody has collapsed to the near side. If you're watching on TV, to that near the near boards, he's got the whole friggin zone to himself. He's going to bang that in. So that's kind of an odd man thing. The Yannmark one we showed you. Same thing with the dry sidel. No hope for Ottinger. there are odd man rushes two on ones wide open nets Dallas you were you could have been five wins away from the whole thing

and that was how you come through I don't know I'm with you I don't I it's like old men yelling at the at the clouds here but God forbid and the oilers have done it maybe play some defense and see what happens compete the oilers have found if we what if we back check and what if we're not just so focused focused on offense. Although I don't even think that was what the stars were doing. But it's very part for the stars. If we keep speaking about the stars and we can give credit to Edmonton, sure.

That's maybe that's a sign of a team that's starting to mature. But the stars have had shitty starts where they don't show up. And then they've had, they showed up and scored a couple. And maybe they weren't even that sharp. You don't know. Because the first two shot, you know what I mean? Like, yeah, you scored to, but it was so early on. that were you going to be good or are they flat?

Because for two and a half periods or just over two periods, they were pretty flat. Yeah. And the game before they were flat and game two in a desperation spot to win, I actually thought that Edmonton was the better team in Dallas in game two for two periods. Maybe I'm wrong. They've, listen, yeah, they have been, they've been good in this series.

They deserve to be tied at, worst, I think they deserve to be tied. And, and who knows what the hell happens now. Now, one of the things that's probably key in here as well, as we talk about Harley and how he played that puck and just the defensive part of their game, what if they're without Chris Tanev? Now, he takes what looks to be, it's a shot here early on. I don't get that one. And it's hard to see where he took it almost, but he hands off the shot blocker and you can see he's limping. So he's taken one off of the, uh, the, uh, the, the foot ankle area.

And he's in distress. And there it is. That's your, somebody in, there's the, the Halloween costume. The Tanev walking down the tunnel to the locker room. You can just have your,

your Tenev jersey, get some shower curtains and hang some drapes off of it. And you can just be Tenev continually walking down the tunnel to the locker room. But he doesn't come back. He played eight and a half minutes, I think is what it ended up being. They, they,

that's not going to be good. huge loss and it affects you there because it's early enough in the game then you're you're you're scrambling with five guys one of them being whoever the hell it is petrovic or whatever all due respect but um yeah all of a sudden if you're without him it changes things in a in a big way for dallas big way yeah and it is and again at home in game five if he's not available when you can match things up a little bit more like well they didn't trade for him because he wasn't going to be a big piece of it. Well, and remember too that he and Lendell were the pairing that at home they had out against

the McDavid line and they got scored on three times. So even there's going to happen against some of the best players in the world. I'll tell you what. I mean, there's there's no, there's no telling what's going to happen. You can't predict it. There's, it's, so it's good in that sense. Yes. It sucks if you're, you know, if you're a fan of one of these teams.

But I got upset again. I was yelling at the TV. You had it in the bag. Yeah. Come on. Come on. It's odd that it's back-to-back games where you really felt like one team was cruising. Yeah.

After their performance in the first period and for Dallas not so much first period, but the first, whatever, 12 minutes, this is it. And look, if they find a way to steer that thing home last night, the series is over. It's over. don't come back from 3-1, let alone Edmonton against Dallas, and that's no disrespect to Adam. And you just don't do it. And Skinner letting in too early, good or not, after being, you know,

there's some question marks all of a sudden, Edmund, you, yeah, you have a, you got to win four, but you, you, you score a few more and you put them to bed and you, nighty night and move on. They've, they, we did it in our semi-final against San Jose. We went into San Jose, won the first two games in San Jose. Oh, we got it. And we lost three and four at home. Not good. Not good.

Now, we, we pulled it out, but. The stress that it, more games, more chance of injury, more travel, more fatigue, it just, you don't need to have that. It all adds up and not in your favor. And you know what? You look at the Tanev thing and it was game four. So it's not as though you went deep into a series.

But that's just the kind of stuff that happens. It's round three. He takes a shot. I don't know if it happens in round one. If he's, there's no injury, but still just even watching plays, Hayeskin,

it was going hard. I think it was back into his own zone. He kind of got tripped up and fell into the end boards. And you think, well, that's going to add up. And that's going to add up. And that's going to. add up it just you keep going four five six seven games and and and dallas has had to do that they were up to nothing and against that what it was yeah they were up two nothing against vegas and then

have to roar back to get oh they were down they were down to nothing yeah and then had to find a way so I i just it was the rink was so quiet red it was beautiful it was a beautiful it was a good it was so quiet in there I was this i went this morning to hear the uh the tnc broadcast they actually didn't say much after the puck went in and it was just you could hear the kind of flung, flung, flung, flung, flung, flung, flung.

Just the poor organ player kind of doing a, nothing, nothing to see here, everything's fine, don't worry. Plunk, plunk, plunk, plunk, plunk, plunk, and you could just hear the buckering. Just bungholes tightening. And they walked out.

They're good, though. Tell you what, tells you a little something about a team that just folds it at two to one though. It's two to we're up two to one. Oh shit. Look out. Here they come.

And then you got to give up a shorthanded goal and and and. If I was Jake Ottenger, I'd be pissed off at my team. But you know, and you're right. But I did when that fourth goal went in. It was four on 20 or 21 and too many. Too many. It's too many. Is it your fault?

Nope. Not your fault. Four on 20, 21, however many shots. Too many. Yeah, it took the Oilers eight minutes to get a shot. And they win this thing five, two. I'm wondering if some of the goalies are better off being peppered. I was actually going to ask noodles that yesterday with Bobrowski and Shisterkin, both wicked goaltenders, right?

Bobrovsky is getting less shots on him, I think. Maybe there's shots, but not as challenging a shot. You know what I mean? and if some of these goaltenders, Ottinger being one where maybe he's better off getting pumped early. Shasturkin seems that way, doesn't he? Right? Like, that is.

The busier he is. Yeah. Yeah. I think it's, I think it's for sure the case. Get a feel, get into it. But they did Skinner a favor.

You potentially had that guy on the ropes with the first shot going in. And it was a good shot, but, you know, I mean, it's make a save. You're a big guy. Come out, challenge,

that sort of thing. and then the second one, I don't know what he was going to do because it goes off of his hoop, I believe it was. It doesn't matter though. You've got into his head and then you. Sure. Yeah. But I just didn't think that eight shots in the third from Dallas,

but did not have the feel of a desperate team. Never had it. Kind of my calling card is always, if a team gets outshot while trailing in the third period, just pack your shit. you're done but they did out shoot them eight six but they give up the empty net goal whatever but they didn't they didn't threaten and again i don't know if that's friggin the oilers give that that might be the oilers playing well and they apparently it's an evenly match to i guess yeah i guess

round three i guess you deserve to have some moments yeah and that's the thing we're we get caught up being on being so anti-edmonton that you you failed to give them some credit it. Us? I think we're fairly fair. Yeah, we don't have a bias. Try not to. Try our best not to.

Yeah. But no, I mean, yeah, you're right. And people are like, oh, this is too much. Why are we talking oilers? Get out of here. What are we talking about? It's a hockey show day after playoff game. What are we going to talk about?

I get, you don't want to hear about the Oilers. We don't want to really talk to us. You want to talk Jays? Do you want to talk Alec Manoa? We can do that. But, no, best of three, you have to feel like this thing's going to go seven now just with how this thing has gone back and forth and back and forth and a game seven in dallas so it's going to be what friday sunday tuesday all right sure i'll make plans i'll make

plans i don't know who's going to win i don't either there's no way there is absolutely no way to uh to have to have a feel on it especially after last night you felt like okay maybe the oilers have a bit of crap their pants blow a lead kind of a thing did not say see the Dallas stars doing what they did last night. And it wasn't just the two nothing lead. They just had very little in the way of pop after after taking that lead. I think Stuart Skinner, as, as Noodle says, he was in his rock and chair back there. It was a very easy night against the guy.

There's a bit of fragility there, a bit of fragility and they didn't take advantage. One power play, they've been keeping, and that's the other thing that hurts you too. You've been disciplined. You haven't been giving up a bunch of power plays to the Oilers because that's how they feast. They've been disciplined. They've been good. Give up a short-handed goal. Goosh. But we move on. But no Tanaev is a big deal. Big deal. And on a weird one, because it didn't look like. I still can't really tell from that angle where he's obviously taking it on the foot, but I can't really see. Is it ankle, heel? What, how did it, um, but you know what they say about

tent of so soft, right? It's just so soft. He's not going to battle through anything. It feels like it's got to be the heel. Yeah, it looks like the heel of his left foot. You know. Yeah. Well, you know. Ape and Advil to it.

Yeah. Rub some dirt on it. Get back out there, sweetheart. Oh, well. Would have been a fun game, though, if you were an oiler fan in there. Because it would have gone from worst ever. Yes. I spent all this money.

I can't believe I spend this money. We got babysitters. We come out to this game and it's so excited. We missed the great, you know, we met, thank God, we missed game three where they had the lead and we thought it was awesome. And then they lost. Oh, my goodness. First shot goes in. It's two nothing.

It's two nothing. Oh, my God. How much did we spend on these tickets? No more beers. That's it. No more $20 beers. We're not spending any more money on this night because this is terrible. Five two.

Best ever. best ever god damn that Cory Perry could have been made made some money when it was too nothing could have made some money for sure you know people it's coming up in the chat that Corey Perry his the feet are kind of gone so have Pavelsky

yeah Pavelsky you don't even really see him yeah he's done but the thing with Perry he hasn't lost that brain no he's right he just kind of knows where to go the I'm going to go to where the pocket is going to eventually be. When the puck gets to that point, I'm probably going to be there.

But it's probably going to, it's like a good poker player. The odds of this thing. Yeah. I've got it figured out. Yeah. He was, uh,

if you're looking for peak sadness, then I guess losing in the final would be that. Granted their two wins away from getting there. We're also good at, you know, getting overly caught up in things, living in the moment because we do a show every day. All you can do is react to what's most recently happened. It's not an old song?

So we didn't know who they were going to play until a couple days ago. I think Coachella Valley swept Ontario. And then Milwaukee was playing somebody and that took a lot longer. So you could buy tickets before you knew they were playing. Because I'm going to Millie Walk. really well they should be there i would think midweek next week because it's yeah i'm going i'm going tuesday there should be a game Tuesday i bet because see milwaukee yeah uh milwaukee is the reason oddly i the reason that red is in buffalo and not calgary right now i was uh i feel like

i missed a good red travel day story yesterday yeah you did yeah it's not yeah it's not yeah it's pretty good it's it's not like uh it's not for st john for two it's not like when you live in calgary and then go to the airport and go home it's when you live in buffalo across the border drive to hamilton go through security get to the gate then turn around and go back home right i got to because i got to go to milwaukee because i got to go to milwaukee on monday yeah and this is wednesday and i'm in hamilton while living in buffalo so anyway yeah so what's happening it uh is Is this just how we commute or are we golfing?

and traveled that much already, getting on the plane is not. And then when you get to, it's worse than if you're playing, because when you're playing, you've got 20 guys that you're hanging out with in the room and you're going out and practicing and playing. Those guys kill time.

Well, we could drive to San Fran and go to Alcatraz, but I've done that four years in row. Yeah. I guess I'll go and ride the bike for half a few. an hour. And you know what? Yesterday, it was announced that here in Calgary, Sportsnet 960, they're keeping the radio rights. the TV rights, they sound like a 10 year extension or something, which is like a crazy term, it feels like, to keep the games on sports net for the Flames games. So that's great for Flames fans. You got 82 games,

all of them are going to be on TV. I don't know people bitch and moan about different things and start times and blackouts and stuff, but for the most part, with Rick Ball, Kelly, Rudy, 82 games, you're in pretty good shape for if you're a Flames fan. And I think the radio deal was up. but it has been renewed.

I didn't see anything in the way of terms, but it just kind of makes sense that they, if we're with Rogers for TV, we're going to keep the radio thing. But they have been not traveling. I don't even know, I mean, it was since before COVID,

like COVID. So they do the home games from the dome and then do the road games from the radio station downtown. I can't, like Rob Ray. Rob Ray would like to not travel for a lot of the broadcast. I know for people like Derek Wills, I know Lombardius when he was there, that was part of the charm. That was part of the perk because you get to go and see these cities and be in the visiting

rinks. And from a work from a professional standpoint, it's easier to do the job when you're there to call the game. When you can see the game and talk about it, it is easier. But I wonder how many teams, because even in Toronto, the Leafs, like Joe Bowman, they weren't traveling. Well, you just because of COVID, they realize you can do things differently and how much money do you save? Not the police need to save a bunch of money, but.

And I know that there's still, they're still kind of at the point, but I wonder how close we are. You just simulcast it. If you're paying Rick Ball and Kelly Rudy to do the game, just use that audio. Well, and I don't know anything about this, but apparently the big cost is to have the second truck in there. to give your own feed. Yeah. Do you know what I mean? Because if you're a Buffalo sabers,

well, typically they're going to follow a saber off the ice. It's not a Calgary flame, and you're going to have highlights from say. And you have your own in-game. You've sold things. Here it's time for the power play, a presentation of whoever you throw that up,

that sort of thing. So you'd have to tailor it a little bit, but I guess it just depends how much you're looking to make. What are you spending on radio rights? What are you looking to make off of it? Because if it's, if you're just doing it, then, then I don't know how far we are away from just simulcasting both. He is so technically challenged. When we were doing the shows at the Grey Eagle doing afterburners, the one day he showed up with the light, no power cord, no way to plug it in. Is it just kind of, was it run on magic? Like what, how does this thing, how are you going to power this thing? Headphones. Do you have, oh, you need the right headphone jack?

Oh, I don't have. have the right headphone jack we are two years into this thing and still he's bringing i don't have the right cord i don't have and especially when you are challenged you think you'd really kind of double down okay before i leave here's a checklist of things that i need and he still kind of gets it that's what's surprising too he's very organized or pretends to be i know notebooks and color coordinated pens and he does yeah yeah in some ways not much gets by him.
