Starting point is 00:00:00 Are we doing bold or not? No. You liked my idea, didn't he? He liked my idea, Jack. Because what it comes back to is then it's judging whether it's bold and then it just breaks down and then we just stopped doing it. And let's just do lukewarm predictions. Ah, that's just not even. I think we're good.
Starting point is 00:00:29 I'm doing without you. Okay, go ahead because he put a lot of effort into it. You know what? We had noodles on last week. And I said, noodles. I worry about the long-term future of the Buffalo Sabres. I think this team could get relocated in five to ten years, not enough money, small market,
Starting point is 00:00:44 caps going through the roof. They've whittled away at what was once a very good fan base, but things are changing. Tage Thompson wins the Rock at Richard at 44 last year. Most goals in the NHL this year, Ross Mustalim will win the Norris and the Buffalo Sabres make the playoffs in the East. Wow.
Starting point is 00:01:04 That is bold. Um, thank you. Boom. Doesn't pass the sniff test, but bold. Yeah, it is bold. There's no question. It's a good roster. Point of bold.
Starting point is 00:01:18 Dahlene had started the year last year, five straight games scoring. Well, and I don't like Lindy. That's the only flying the o'am in. If they could just change the coach now, that would really help. I'm sure Lindy's lovely. It's just the wrong coach for this team. They were 12 points out last year after winning like the last four or five.
Starting point is 00:01:37 Yeah, they were six, three and one to end the season. Was it two years ago they had the great, like a good start and Tage Thompson was through the roof for those. Yeah, it was a while ago. Ten row or something. And why do you think this is? I like the roster. Tangible. It's a talented roster.
Starting point is 00:01:53 So based on last year's just, and I'm not trying to pick holes, but they would have, they would need to leapfrog the penguins, islanders, rangers, wings, jackets and then one of the habs or the Sends to get into a wild card. I think the Habs missed this year. Oh, the Habs barely got in. Everyone's talking about Sid. They're forgetting that a lot went right just for them to get in this year. I like Demadov, but I don't think Linae's going to work because he hasn't worked anywhere, and they still need a number two center because Kirby Docs had a half decade to prove he's at. He's not.
Starting point is 00:02:23 Yeah, but he's been injured a lot. Yeah, and so if he's injured again, but he is surprising either. Yeah, but he's out, Sabers in. That's interesting because I feel like the hockey world is very high, much. They're going to be very exciting. No question. The addition of Dobson. Good player. Hudson. Excellent rookie season.
Starting point is 00:02:45 Okay. They're very skilled. They're fun. They'll score goals. I don't think they make the playoffs. I think that's equally as bold as your sabres. Maybe not quite as, but. Ottawa's in. It's doing the flippy flop. Yeah, you're doing the flippy flop. The teams are in. The flippy floppe. The fifth team from the Atlantic.
Starting point is 00:03:00 Wow. You don't tend to have a lot of, affinity for the Sabres. Well, I mean, they're horribly run and they've ripped through coaches and GMs, but I look at all those players and I'm like, that, that roster is so much more talented than the Flamesu had 96 points last year. Go through it. Who's on the roster?
Starting point is 00:03:16 You can ever figure it out? Dean, do you mind? We don't have to, but it's a good roster. It's a decent roster. Yeah, it's not like we're not winning the cup here, but can they be the top 16 in a 32 team league is really what we're asking. Josh Norris. Good player.
Starting point is 00:03:32 Always going to start the year there. Ryan McLeod. good penalty killer. I guess we could look at the... I was going to say, why are you starting there? They have good players to start with. Do they? Tage.
Starting point is 00:03:45 I just... That's what I'm wondering. Tallinn. Power. Like Norris Thompson Benson on the top line, although Benson's hurt, Jason Zucker with Yuri Kulich and Alex Tuck. I like Tuck a lot,
Starting point is 00:03:57 but he's heard of it too. You've not watched Tuck lately. You're out to lunch on what Tuck is now. I'm just telling you. That's fair. Okay. Anyway. I'm not saying I watched all his games.
Starting point is 00:04:06 No. Ryan McLeod between Josh Dohn and Jack Quinn. They got Done in the Petirka trade. Quinn's a nice player. He's supposed to be a nice player. He's a first rounder, yeah. Some of he got a pop at some point. Former Hitman Beck Malinstein.
Starting point is 00:04:19 Beck. Back? With Peyton Krebs and Justin Danforth on the fourth. That's four or five. I do feel like if this was a different team, you'd be. But Krebs was a first round or two, right? Uh, yeah. Vegas.
Starting point is 00:04:30 Vegas. You might be crushing. Josh Norris is a number one center. eerie coolie, who no one really knows. But look, it's... I'm not saying they're going to be good. I'm going to say they're eighth in the east. He's being bold, too.
Starting point is 00:04:43 I would take... I would go spicy wing for that one, Ryan. It's got to be very spicy wing. Right. You want to make a bet? Montreal Buffalo heads up. Oh! Jack's calling him out.
Starting point is 00:04:53 I need some odds, but yes, I do. Oh, come on. Here it is. You'll back pedal. You give me odds on the Zeri bet. You had an insider info. Double or nothing. You owe me a hundred bucks.
Starting point is 00:05:03 We'll do that. He gets the haves. I get to say, Rich, $100. No, he offered that. I would never,
Starting point is 00:05:08 I don't bet like that, but Jack was hammered and I would take advantage. Wow. You bet? He already owes me a hundred, so he gets to hold it for another year. That was savvy by him. Pretty good.
Starting point is 00:05:19 All right. Next. That is pretty good. A fucking rat. Since the habs. Okay, next, somebody else was to do.
Starting point is 00:05:27 Next. Habs are missing, right? No. I don't think the haves are baking. Yes, Ryan, the haves. In my imaginary universe, hot takes, Sid's not going to a team that's going to miss.
Starting point is 00:05:38 Right. So where is Sid going? He's going to play with Nate Dog in Colorado. All right. Mild. Maybe medium bold. It would be bold if it happens, but I don't think it will. For the first time, Connor McDavid's life, the Evanton Oilers will win the division in the regular season.
Starting point is 00:05:58 I think the penguins piss their pants and they're in last place and he's going to play with McKenna next year. It'll be great. that could happen to. Oilers win the division? Not a hot ticket at all very mild. It's a bit mild, but it was more the delivery. I liked it, yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:15 Do you want to do it again? Because Rhett was still, did you say that? The Edmonton Oilers for the first time in Connerick David's career will win the division in the regular season. See, there it is. He's kind of wrapping you up and getting you ready. And then they'll lose to L.A. and round one because the hockey gods,
Starting point is 00:06:31 we talked to them yesterday. Yeah. finally top five pick for the flames i'm sorry you're a good player i was gonna say that one can you make a top three for the first time in franchise history they'll have it i'll go i'll top three you're welcome thank you top three that's like when you get a little extra sauce from the ball you put it on the wing that's right like in hot ones there when they go da bomb or whatever it is at the end it's crazy you had done no i'm my god i thought i'm looking through a fourth the hot sauce to ban i'm not super duper good with hot sauce.
Starting point is 00:07:03 I'm good with hot sauce because that one almost killed me. Like I, yeah. It's my sphincter. The baboon ass is undeniable. That is as bad as his C-St. It's just unnecessary. It's the truth, Rhett. It doesn't matter.
Starting point is 00:07:26 People don't live with you. Was it a soothsayer? Someone that tells us. So here's the thing. I disagree with you. Okay. Let's hear it. Sidney Crosby will not be traded.
Starting point is 00:07:37 Everyone's looking for the Sid trade. It's not going to happen. But if Gennie Malkin will be traded. To the Washington capitals to play with Ovechkin. Washington. It's probably Ove's last year. It's the last year in Malkin's deal. He's 39.
Starting point is 00:07:53 No chance. I'll go with the trade. He's going to Minnesota to play with his real pal. Kirol. I don't know that there's a relationship. They're best of friends. Okay. Right. Says Rhett.
Starting point is 00:08:06 Yep. Trademark Bomberner, 2025. That's right, yeah. Malkin, out. Wow. It's not the Malkin of old. The points aren't there, but he's still... Oh, but if he gets into the...
Starting point is 00:08:19 An imposing dude. ...the flow into playing important games. You saw Sid. Oh, yeah. Malkin couldn't go. Meanwhile, I mentioned the Capitals. What a year, right? Great year.
Starting point is 00:08:35 What a year they had? Residence trophy. What was it? They, two years ago, 91 points. They got in on a tie break. It was just snuck in. Squeaky. Last year, 20 point improvement, 111 points,
Starting point is 00:08:46 tops in the east. Dylan Strom, 82 points. Incredible. Ovi had 44 goals. Big year for P.L. Luke Dubois. Tom Wilson had 30-some goals. I thought he was good. Logan Thompson was awesome.
Starting point is 00:08:57 Same with Charlie Lindgren. Yeah. Capitals missed the playoffs this year. From tops in the east, they, if the Sabers get in, it can't all go. They had the, they had the Ovechkin stuff, breaks his leg, he comes back, he still scores.
Starting point is 00:09:13 I don't mind this one at all. The Rangers just did this two years ago. They won the President's trophy and then missed the playoffs last year. Logan Thompson was unbelievable. I think he's good. I don't think he's that good. Dubois is not good. Wilson was healthy for 81 games.
Starting point is 00:09:27 He doesn't play 82, he doesn't do it. And there's a lot of teams around them. It's going to make life. card. Yes. And I think with Ovi. Leave it unsaid. Just leave it there.
Starting point is 00:09:42 We all know what he mean. He got to where he needed to be. He's done what he needs to do. So sorry to the caps. Sorry to Spencer Carberry. Did he win the coach of the year? I believe he did, right? I think he'll be fired.
Starting point is 00:09:56 He will not too Pete. Is that what they call it? So you can get fired? No, he's not getting fired. Jack Adams. Should I really double down on Montreal and say Marty St. St. Louis gets fired this year? No.
Starting point is 00:10:07 Okay. I won't do that. I don't think so. The Russians will win the Olympics. I don't think they're going. That's not bold about it. That is incredible. It's going to work out a deal, get the war over with.
Starting point is 00:10:22 And then the Russians are back into the Olympics and they're going to win spicy, mild or? That's, yeah, that's ghost pepper. That's really good. I don't know what it is. Boom hates it already. Well, I sweat. It's whatever, but it's got to be bold. It's bold.
Starting point is 00:10:41 Yeah. Local hot take. Joel Farabee, big year, back to being a 20 plus goal score. I like that. I know about Joel. Top line start this year. He had 20 in his second NHL season. Two years ago, we had 22.
Starting point is 00:10:56 Last year had three in 31 games as a flame. You saw the lines. Jack, do we have the lines? He's on a line with Flapka and Cadry. You don't need to put the lines up. Jack, he's joking. Joel Farabee, bounce back year, 20 goals. I don't want too many bounce back years because you're saying that flames are going to have a high pick if these guys play too good.
Starting point is 00:11:17 Well, I didn't say that I was asking for it. He said top five. I asked for a top three. Who else is having a big year? Elias Pedersen and Vancouver. I got to. Yes. Yes.
Starting point is 00:11:29 It's too easy then if we're all thinking it. Last year, he had 45 points in 64 games. He's just two years removed from 102. he's back to a hondo this year. Wow. I had him a point per game and thought that was hot. That is a bold, spicy. Tim and Quinn.
Starting point is 00:11:46 Yes, they got rid of. Rock Bessor's back in there. Timothy, Timothy Miller, he's back. The vibes are immaculate. They're so happy. Foot. Great coach. They're having, hey, life's light and it's fun again.
Starting point is 00:12:01 Aqualva's going to be coming in the room, pumping up the boys. Yeah, I love it. So congrats to Elias Pedersen. Huge your. Canucks fans are going to have a. bounce back year. Also, congrats to Maclin Celebrini on making the Canadian Olympic team.
Starting point is 00:12:14 Yep, expected. He's America. Born north Vancouver. Wasn't some of the other day that you? Yeah, we did. Yeah, it was Carter Hart. Sanderson. Sanderson. We also said, we did both. No, I said Carter Hart. And I didn't say it when San Francisco. We both were.
Starting point is 00:12:29 Eyes kids. So you're saying Celebrini's expected to make the Olympic team? I think he will. I don't know what the odds would be, but I'm confident he makes it because they like bringing younger guys and he's a mega stud. He would have to, it would seem like, beat out the Shifeley's of the world. Stone Thomas, Sorrelli, Hegel.
Starting point is 00:12:46 It's in that realm. He's a winger. He's a center. I think they go down in the middle. Injuries always seem to kind of. McKinnon, McDavid, and Silabridi will be your four centers. He had six points in eight games at the Worlds. So yeah, I think this is the, this is the Drew Doughty 2.0. Kid comes in, has a great year.
Starting point is 00:13:04 Makes the team. Boom. Olympic team. With you. Yeah. The Leafs win the cup. Okay, this segment's over. That's bold. It's idiotic. Kind of is. I don't believe it either.
Starting point is 00:13:17 You could tell. I just saw it on the screen, the Leafs emblems. The Dallas Stars win the Stanley Cup. It's our pick last year, wasn't it? Hayskin, don't get hurt. Be there all season, that'll help. Rantan's there, full season.
Starting point is 00:13:31 That won't hurt. Jason Robertson, don't get hurt. Thanks. Jason Robertson had a down year and still had 35 goals and 80 points. He's going to get traded. They're going to look up. Thomas Harley, 21 points in his last 25 games. Thomas Harley is a star.
Starting point is 00:13:44 Star. Scott. Wyatt Johnston is 22 years old. 30 for Wyatt. Ottinger, better year. And they got, what did Dregor call the coach? Gulletson? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:59 He gave him some kind of name there last week. But he likes Gully. They got DeBoor out of there. Can't let me. in game seven in the semifinals of divorce not there. Congrats to the Dallas Stars for Hoist and the Great, great rank. People don't talk about that rank enough. Can you stand in the whole third? It's nuts.
Starting point is 00:14:15 Oh, yeah. We're halfway there. What do you think, Jack? Nobody said Pittsburgh's making it. No, Pittsburgh's not making it. What are they getting, though? What player's been shit on the most the last couple years in the playoffs? Switch teams.
Starting point is 00:14:38 Mitch Marner. He's going to win the MVP. Vegas is going to win the Stanley Cup. I like that. I was looking at Vegas last. They just going to doing this, looking at stuff. So they didn't,
Starting point is 00:14:54 because they didn't, they weren't great in the playoffs. No, they got bullied by the Oilers. Like, they still won the Pacific last year. They had 50 wins. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:04 They add Marner. And there's just some things there. If you forget about hurdle. If Stone's going to get hurt, Eichel is going to take less money to stay. He's not going anywhere. Less than Connor, but less than Carrell, yeah. I guess Petrangelo on the back end, but they still... They've rolled them out for the year potentially, so we'll see.
Starting point is 00:15:25 They need that cap space for Marner. Just anybody, Vegas, L.A., whoever. Just be real good. Just be real good. Anyone else. Yeah. I'm not fussy. I'll take a Colorado.
Starting point is 00:15:35 I don't care. Don't care. Yeah, don't care. Minnesota, sure. Do it, boys. That would be something if Mark. Arner goes there and leads the playoffs and scoring and they win like three rounds, get to the cup final.
Starting point is 00:15:50 That was in them, huh? Yeah. What else you got? Did you, uh, I did mine. Russia. That's the biggest one because it's political. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:00 It's a massive. You love getting into politics on the show. Yeah. Any flames ones? Oof, I had the lineup up. No, I didn't really. I filmed what Zane. But what's what are you going to say?
Starting point is 00:16:17 Bold. Is he going to get 100 points? It's going to the world juniors. It's said back to junior. Yes. I had to do that. Run and Power Play 1 by November, I don't know. Lots of different ways.
Starting point is 00:16:26 It's gold. It's probably the wisest move as long as he's not completely underwater in his own end. Tell you what, if this team gets off to a bad start, I'd be playing the piss out of that kid. Let him learn on the fly. What's a, give me a point total. Lane Hudson last year had 66 points in 82 games. as a rookie. Jake Sanderson had 57 points in 80 games.
Starting point is 00:16:54 Harley 50 and 78. Only one of those is a rookie for context. I'm just looking at young guys who had a break through Jackson, Lacombe, 43 and 75. I'll say 42 points. No. 30. Okay.
Starting point is 00:17:10 I am a little worried about him not being in the starting lineup tomorrow. They're going to manipulate games played. And they should. You can't expect. He's not good at. defending. They're on the road against McDavid. It's the three and four. Like if you're McDavid and that kid's out there,
Starting point is 00:17:28 here's the thing though. Thank you. Like, love Jake being the human, Jake being the hockey player. You don't have to say this. I don't know that there's a drop from Jake to anyone. What's that mean? I think Zane can like. Yeah, but it's more. The shots on the ice and the preseason when Jake Bean were on the ice were three to one for the other team. No, it's preseason. but like, he's not just a safe, good defenseman. He's not.
Starting point is 00:17:54 No, but it's not, it's, it's about the headspace, the career. Yeah. It's not about who's a better player who can defend McDavid. It's not about what's happening on the ice. It's about here's a 19 year old that's going to be a big part of what we're doing. We probably don't need to. And agree. Because he said the same thing about Wolf, whatever it was two years ago.
Starting point is 00:18:12 I totally agree. What I'm saying is I don't want to see once we get out of night one. Okay. Like, play the kid. The kid's got this. seal it. Jake Bean is what he is. He's doing his best. You heard. He was on the bench yelling at the D the other day. Bring him. Husk. Call him.
Starting point is 00:18:30 We got forwards playing D. That's why I was yelling. He's got a plan. He's got a plan. Husk. I don't know. Like if he plays 35 games, that's just going to feel like such a waste. Why? I agree. 35's not a lot. It's not a lot, but why. So, okay, so fine. You're making a generalized statement. to develop. Let the guy make his mistakes and learn. So why does he have to play? So in 60 games, it's going to be more effective? What are you based? You're a science guy. What are you basing that on? Why is?
Starting point is 00:19:07 I just want to see it because I think he'll get better. He starts. He's just a what you want thing. It's not a what's best for it. The probabilities of guys that put up 100 points and 30 goals as defensemen is that they turn into really good H.ellers. Let him figure it out. Don't be worried about trying to get 97 points when they're awesome. is not good enough. Play the kid. You can't send the message to the rest of the team and go, this guy could go F up all day, every day, and do whatever he wants,
Starting point is 00:19:31 and the rest of the you have to be held accountable. I don't have a problem with them not soon tomorrow. What I don't want to see is if this team's out of it, they're not playing the piss out of them. Is there a level of play that if it has, if it's poor that. Yeah. If you just be better than the new bad of some beings of the world.
Starting point is 00:19:47 Because that would suggest like nobody, you're going to make mistakes, you're going to get blown up, just play them. But there has to, be some, it's like he's not ready. Then send him to World Juniors. A good coach. What do they say about a good coach? What's he do with his players?
Starting point is 00:20:02 He yells at them. Yes. First. Firstly, he wants to succeed. Yeah. Clear lines of communication. Yeah. Spots to succeed. Totally. It's been a place where he can succeed.
Starting point is 00:20:12 Somehow, some way you had Danielle Miramanov playing with Weiger for two months. You were fucking screaming for Miramanov. It was your favorite player. Like, I don't know. He was my favorite, but you had to see what he was. and he proved not to be that guy. Get me. Shut to shit.
Starting point is 00:20:25 It's a different. We're going for a different, right? Like Miramano, it was mid-26. You loved Miramana. He's 19 first round pick. Like, it's, they're not the same. Of course not. But if you can play waiver claim guys on a top pair with Weger.
Starting point is 00:20:37 But again, I'll go back to my point. My point is it's not about numbers. It's not about plus minus or who's on against it. It's about don't wreck this kid's confidence. So what? Yeah. And so what happens when he goes? out there and learns that he can be a shitbag
Starting point is 00:20:54 defensively. And three years from now, when you want to be good, he's going, no, this is how I play. So you don't see a lot of teaching moments in a year where he's made defensive mistakes? You're an idiot. Just throwing random bullshit out. You know I'm right.
Starting point is 00:21:11 I don't disagree what you're saying, but I think they're absolutely going to try to teach him the defensive side of the game. But if you're not held to some sort of standard of like, yeah, so what I'm saying is the standard is Be better than Miramana of Bean. Like, that's all the standard is. If he's as good as them and they're playing the vets. No, it's not because if that's what you want out of this fucking kid that he's useless.
Starting point is 00:21:34 What are you talking about? So the standard is Bean? You just said Bean was shit and you want this guy to be good. So your standard is Bean. I'm saying if Bean isn't good, don't be sitting a kid for him. You make no sense. You're trying to set the kid up to be a star in the league, not be better than Bean. That's not the standard you're trying to say.
Starting point is 00:21:52 So if you place 35 games this year, that will help me a star. Yes or no. Maybe. Maybe. Okay. There's no wrong or right to it. You earn what you get. I will play you when you're capable of being played to a certain standard.
Starting point is 00:22:06 It's not, this isn't fucking daycare. So my fear is sort of like, and I'm losing my voice is awful. But like you lose, you lose water, you lose Sologia of. What's your fear? Just so if you try to explain it. Let me finish. Solovia, have you lost because you kept me your man off. Don't do the same thing with your sixth defenseman, if that's where we're at here.
Starting point is 00:22:29 Don't be taking a safe vet with no ceiling that's not ever going to help this team be good down the road. Not you're talking. Asset management. I'm with you on that. But the kid's going to play. That's not asset management. Those are two different things. I'm trying to explain how I feel about it and you're getting mad.
Starting point is 00:22:50 I don't know what else to say. I'm just trying to tell you how I'm feeling about my fears. not what I think's going to happen. I don't want to see them playing a shitty third pair over a kid in a lost season. If he's got an opportunity, what did you say about Dougie Hamilton when he got here? Play the piss out of him. Let him make his mistakes. Let him improve for five years.
Starting point is 00:23:10 True. You traded the first. No, not exactly the same. But there are advantages of letting kids play. I don't want him to be worried about it. I made one mistake. I'm going to go to the press box. There are, to me, as a just a.
Starting point is 00:23:27 partial on looker. There's points all throughout there. We do talk a lot about kids got to play games. There's no need to have him here if he's not going to play. I don't think that's going to happen. I think he's going to play. I think so too.
Starting point is 00:23:41 But the point writ makes it, again, it's repeating, is the goal isn't be better than Jake Bean or Miramanov. Like there's, there's Ryan Huska. We need to win tonight. So here's how our two rosters overlap and here. But then there's the bigger picture. of I sure hope that you're better than Miramanoff and Bean in the long run.
Starting point is 00:24:02 Yeah, he will be in the gentleman. But for, but as we look big picture right now, maybe you need a night off. Maybe you need to watch a game or two and just take a breath. So we're going to put Bean or Miramano back into the, into the lineup. The crux of what I'm saying is I want this player's development to be a top priority
Starting point is 00:24:20 over getting your 83rd point in the season, if you know what I mean, right? Yeah, and I don't think we're disagreeing in that. Because you're just making a blanket. statement to 35. And I think we're in agreement of a lot. I don't think the flames are going to be fighting for 97 points. And if they are, it's probably because Perak has played quite well. I agree with the play. Because they're not going to get the 97 points with the other guys you mentioned. Starting point is 00:24:48 was another option for him if it looks like maybe the NHL isn't for him this year. There isn't one. It'd be nice to not, well, it's junior. Starting point is 00:25:05 I am not correct and I would never be as good as correct. I played 21 games or something. 28. 28 games by rookie year. So what? Was that the year you went down to Carolina for a bit? Yeah. You went to World Juniors?
Starting point is 00:25:20 Yeah. I'd be okay with that, Tim. There's ways of man. And we're arguing about stupid. 35. An arbitrary number. Yeah, it's an arbitrary number that we've thrown out. We're all in agreement.
Starting point is 00:25:33 When he's in, hopefully he's good enough to play. Put him in his position to succeed. And once you're out of the playoffs, floor it. Just come on through. Oh, what a guy. I'm telling you, water's knocking out my voice. We've got to get off.
Starting point is 00:25:48 It won't hurt it. Push the button. Let's go. There we are. Still same.
