Starting point is 00:00:00 Who leads the Calgary Flames in points this season? Cadre. I know, barring a trade, but yeah. Yeah, I don't see who else. It's tough to see who else. What was he last year and what was Huberto? Well, they were close. He just got over 60, if I'm correct.
Starting point is 00:00:29 It might be Huberto. He somehow starting to hear hurt, though. Gosh, that's my caveat. That's my caveat. Is that a cat? after they hang nine tonight. He's missing out of him. Quadrude at 67, Hubert O had
Starting point is 00:00:41 62. It'll be those two again. Then weager with 47. Ooh, weeks. My boy. And Coronado. And Coronado.
Starting point is 00:00:51 Yeah. Leader in goals. Coronado. Last year he was Huberto with 28. Or sorry, sorry. After Caudry, 35. Hubert O, 28,
Starting point is 00:01:05 then Coronado 24. Hubert O. Wow. You love Hupy. Nice. Oh, holy. He's the highest paid player, so he's our best player. Okay.
Starting point is 00:01:20 Interesting. Is there somebody that you're kind of, whatever, who would be the biggest pleasant surprise? I liked you heard mention the other day of Joel Farby, because he's been lighted up the preseason worth nothing, but a better omen than not lighting up the preseason. And I'd love to see Frost have a good year,
Starting point is 00:01:38 given that he's in your center. You can't name everybody. What's that? When we get to pick one, you can't name seven or eight. Farabee's a good pick. You take five teams in our football picks. I'll pick two guys. Your turn.
Starting point is 00:01:51 I like Ferrabi. Sharon Govich. Yeah, I mean, he needs to. 32 years ago, 30 plus. Go get it. Are you, Igor. Are you, Igor. How did you get 17 goals?
Starting point is 00:02:04 He was dog shirt most of the year and then scored. Joe Colburn. 17. What's your mom is playing? Is this 20 questions? Yeah, it's kind of. 20's too many. It was always too many.
Starting point is 00:02:16 We used to do 20 questions, Jack. It was great. Yeah. Was it? Biggest disappointment. End of the year, we're going to be like, I think probably last year, Sharon Govich might have been a candidate for that.
Starting point is 00:02:30 Oh, for sure. Yeah. The D or the D? I don't think that's. I can't see Sherenkovich. I can't say Sharon Govich because he already disappointed last year. again. But then I just said he was going to be the... I'll say Devin Cooley.
Starting point is 00:02:55 That's easy pickings too, isn't it? It is easy, but yeah. He could be the surprise candidate. If he gives him some solid... Yeah, because he didn't in the H.L for half a year, and now he's in the NHL. Coleman. Last year, Blake Coleman, 15 goals, 39 points, and 82 games.
Starting point is 00:03:16 Yeah, it's, you know, when you're on that line, and he's checking. Like, that's... Yeah, when you're on that, it's almost like you're free of scrutiny. Well, it's just the points aren't how you're measured. So yeah, you didn't score much.
Starting point is 00:03:26 Yeah, but... Did you make David get a hand trick? Sorry. I'm on the chair. Oh, he's... Don't do it. I don't want him to, but he's good the potential to.
Starting point is 00:03:32 I think the guy with the biggest potential is Hewardow because of the price tag and because of the bounce back offensively last year. He's a professional. Not suggesting he isn't. Rasmus Anderson. Will he be traded?
Starting point is 00:03:51 When? and where? Oh, where? Yes? Yes or no? Traded? Yes. For shizzle.
Starting point is 00:03:59 I don't see how he doesn't. Please, guys. Please. Blood oath. Vegas. It's going to be tough to make the money work there. I thought they just dumped that Peter Angela. That's why I said.
Starting point is 00:04:17 They got the martyr money. Yeah. Oh. I'll say Tampa. Vegas seems to find a way. I mean, Mark Stone's always available to free up 10 mill or so, but then you want them back for the playoffs, a little wrinkle or all that. Well, there's a playoff.
Starting point is 00:04:28 cap. All that deal. Yeah, they have to change their strategies, their dark arts. It feels like Dallas is a great fit. It always kind of has. I mean, Toronto would probably love them too. To be fair, he's a second pair of right shot defenseman.
Starting point is 00:04:40 Almost every team could use an upgrade. Yeah, any team that wants to win. Huge, huge amount of teams that would be chopping. But this feels like it's going to go to the deadline. That's typically where you get the most for guys, so it would make sense if they did that. But if you get an injury at the right time and this team's way out of it, don't wait. if you get an injury to the guy you're trying to.
Starting point is 00:05:01 Yeah, that's, they don't want that injury. Yeah, remember the 10 of one? He'd met that the tunnel like six times. Just trade them. I don't care what the returns. What number would you keep him at? I think the number would be term more than dollars. They're not capped out.
Starting point is 00:05:16 You don't want to buy the 16th through 18. I've got to be able to trade them at some point for, here's my philosophy on the team chat. I don't think they're knocking on the. Can they have another good year? Yeah. Could they sneak in? Last year proved that anything's possible.
Starting point is 00:05:34 Are they going to get through Alberta? No. Best case scenario, you play the Oilers in round three. Are you, really? All for what? What was it? Eight days in jet fuel was the Sutterline? To me, it's...
Starting point is 00:05:51 So, I forget what I was getting at. What was your question? How many years? How much? What would you say? I have to be able to utilize him as an asset. And for him to sign, he's going to want a no trade. And I don't want to ride it out because here's an asset that I can use to get difference makers that are going to matter when it matters. And you have that ability now to trade them to all the six teams.
Starting point is 00:06:14 Hence, my hesitation. Even though. Yeah. Even though the cap is going up, cap space is still important. There's still value in it. It just, well, I've seen. It's maybe not the best analogy, but it's just the way I say, you drafted Raspas Anderson in the second round.
Starting point is 00:06:33 That's a hell of a deal. It's like when you buy a, you bought a car, you're leasing a vehicle. He's been great. It's been great for you. You got a good deal when you bought it. It's been reliable. You've driven it. But you don't.
Starting point is 00:06:45 And you can sell it now for more than you paid. Yes. You can. The flames have a really unique setup that they have a ton of right shot players on the back end. That is unique. Most teams don't have any. His market ability to other teams versus Uighurs are ready. Perrex are ready.
Starting point is 00:07:03 You know, you got the Saskers are ready. Bristavich is already. Mews had four points in his NCAA debut. He's going to be a really good player. I think he's a right. Like you're just swimming in right shot D. I almost don't care about the number. Go get young assets.
Starting point is 00:07:16 Go find some people that it can come play with Zane Perak in four years and head into their prime, not coming out of their prime. That's my concern. Even if the Oilers are right with Echol, he's what 35 right yes they're in their window now they're there that makes Anderson's still here when he's 35 can he be effective I don't care about the cost of it is it the right approach to your asset management yeah it's a bill it's a philosophy about building a contender I don't you you've already going to have weger's longer in the tooth
Starting point is 00:07:48 you've got a ton of right shots like you can't be expecting prime rasmus when he's 33 why it's just like nine times out of 10 a 33 year old season for a defenseman's nowhere near his peak right it's like geo was the one outlier it's tough to name a second guy like there would be more guys so close to what we're looking at that that the flip side of it is and i catch myself there it's just just get young and that you can get too young you can get too young too fast it can't just be about you still need to play games there's 82ers fans and guys in the locker room and all of that meager places, exactly same position. But I just, yeah, you've got, it just feels like it's time.
Starting point is 00:08:29 It makes the most sense. And I will say this. I've been thinking about this. It's because I, well, Conroy, but judge Conroy by his actions, not his words. Because Conroy will come out and say the right things. It's like, we love Rasmus and boy, if there's a deal to get done, like, in that example. But if you look over the last few years, has there been anything that Craig has done that you've been like, oh, pulling my hair out? What are we? Why are we, this is, there really isn't.
Starting point is 00:08:58 If you are, if you are on, not even team tank, but you're more on team rebuild, get younger. He hasn't gone to July 1 and spent stupid money on somebody. He's made the trades, he's traded everybody, whether or not he got what you thought you were going to. He's traded everybody. He has a walk to anybody to free agency and then lost them. He has done everything that I think the rebuild fans want to see. Yeah. The critique would be he's allowing these things to run right to the deadline in the expiry year.
Starting point is 00:09:29 Like you could have got a haul for Rasmus in theory at last year's deadline given it. You don't know that. Brian Dumolin got a second last year. You don't know that. Of course you don't know. But it would be safe when you looked at the prices around the market that Rassas would be worth out there. They weren't prepared to trade them. They didn't go far down the road because they were in a playoff spot.
Starting point is 00:09:46 If you took maybe the bigger picture of you, you opened yourself to making a great deal there. They didn't. It's the last year of his deal. He's letting the issues come to him. when they come rather than being super proactive and I'm okay with it I and again without knowing my thought there is if there was a deal worth doing he does it in a playoff spot yes that wasn't what the insiders reported at all they basically said he wasn't really on the market I they can be both yeah it could be both it didn't want to move them they were trying to make the no we don't want to move you right now we can
Starting point is 00:10:16 move you next year and still get assets in return but if the trade was gone I have to move him I think he would have. I don't think the trades that were maybe being offered for Anderson last year at the trade deadline or whatever were the ones that he thought were. And already we heard there was an LA deal to be done, but Raspis didn't want to sign an extension. That's not Craig's fault. No, but you don't have to worry about an extension if you trade him at the deadline last year. You can't even sign an extension. But it wasn't, to get that package from L.A. was contingent on him signing. Right. But either way, you'd worked out a deal that was what we understand, a very good deal. Yeah, it sounded like some really good players, like a first and maybe green train.
Starting point is 00:10:56 I don't know. I just because Craig says the right things. Well, of course he does. We're open to resigning them. Of course, he is he going to sign for two years at $5 million? Of course you'd resign him. He's not. And even if you weren't, you're not going to say that you aren't.
Starting point is 00:11:09 Right. Because that closed the door. It takes away leverage in a trade and all of that. I think Craig has done what you would want him to do. He's been a guy. He signed Anthony Math a year. ago. Okay, whatever. It was worth a shot. Didn't hurt anybody. Didn't sign anybody this year, really. Brought back Hanley, short-term deal, low money doesn't hurt you.
Starting point is 00:11:31 You know, I don't know the goaltending thing this year. I don't know if that's even on him. It's just the kids are playing. It's not like there's, when Coronado was ready to come up, he came up. What are you doing with Perrick? Well, he's here. Gridden's got, he's here. Hansa, give me. Yeah. Now, if you could pick, would you have rather them dealt with Rastus by now? Only because. In a vacuum. In a vacuum. Well, yeah, of course. And I think he would say the same thing to you. Probably, yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:57 Until I see the deal that happens. Right. And everyone's healthy right now, relatively speaking, and teams will get major injuries on the back end and what teams are willing to part with to get Rasmus will likely increase towards the deadline because that's how this league's operated for a quarter century. So I understand why they're taking him into his last year.
Starting point is 00:12:16 I'm not worried about resigning them. I think there's a 0% chance they walk him to UFA. he came in in his opening press conference as general manager and said, we're going to play the asset management game. We're not going to walk guys to UFA like they did with Johnny. He hasn't done it. He's held his end of the bargain.
Starting point is 00:12:30 Yeah, he hasn't done it. You know, you can nitpick certain things, but generally speaking, he's done a solid job of asset management. Would you rather have sent Miramana done and kept Salaubia? Okay, but we're really talking about seventh defensemen. Yeah. So I don't know.
Starting point is 00:12:48 Well, I feel like this team is going to, tell us all what they are. And that's what he's doing. He's letting the team tell them, right? It's not super exciting, but I said it a year ago and I was wrong. I just don't see how they're, I don't have real high hopes for them this year.
Starting point is 00:13:07 It does not feel like a playoff team. It feels like they're closer to that bet 365 number than they would, than they were a year ago. Yeah, which is 83.5 versus 96. That's a significant spread, 12.5 points. Yeah, they're going to, be some bounce backs, but not everyone's going to bounce back. And there's going to be some
Starting point is 00:13:25 regression from some of those older guys. Yeah. It's just going to happen. Huberto career high goals. Does he duplicate or was that the career year? Yeah. Codry, 35. That's a high watermark for him. Does he duplicate or was that a career year? And we'll see what the goalie? What kind of environment seeing? We talked about it last week. It's the one thing that hasn't even gone into my mind is it, well, Wolf could have an off year. That's allowed. You can still be a great young goalie be top 10 in the world and have a stretch of bad games. Jeremy Swaven was in everyone's top 10 goalies this time last year. The team in front of him wasn't good and he didn't have a great year.
Starting point is 00:14:03 He still got goalie. And they picked what? Six. They got James Higgins, eight somewhere there. Like it can happen. Igor Shusirkin's, or Syroquins team, Elias Sorokin. Like that's an elite netminder. His team picked first.
Starting point is 00:14:17 They won the lottery to get there. But it's not like when you have a good coldly, you never pick high. UC Soros, good goalie, is team picture really high. You look around the league, even at some of the, you know, whatever we want to call it, bottom feeders near the bottom. San Jose Sharks, not very good. But getting better. They've got a number one overall pick.
Starting point is 00:14:35 They've got some young players there that you're very excited about. Hell yeah. Chicago. We'll see, but our exciting young player. Nashville. Okay. Still some good players, though. Philadelphia, they're kind of in it as well, but they're, they got Mish,
Starting point is 00:14:49 they just drafted Mishkov. high, they've still like connecting that sort of thing. I don't know. It's, there's, there's a lot of teams out there that have some exciting young talent. There's really one team that we're expecting to definitely be worse than last year that isn't trying to make the playoffs. And that's the Penguins, that's it. I don't know that there's a second team where they're like, yeah, it'll be worse than last year.
Starting point is 00:15:12 Like, we think the San Jose and Chicago's and Anaheim's are going to be a little bit better. You know, we could talk ourselves into Nashville being better. Everything went wrong last year. Ditto for Vancouver and New York. One team is actively chasing McKenna right now. That's Pittsburgh. That didn't watch last night. That's right.
Starting point is 00:15:32 She'll take that last line and the man. That's right. Trade down at Arthur C-Lops. Imagine if you win the draft lottery and the first time you ever pick first overall is when the guy like that's available. God, even if you pick second. Imagine the vibe in this city. People will be losing their GD minds. something nice could happen to this franchise that's what you're suggesting you imagine can you imagine
Starting point is 00:15:56 i don't i and i don't mean i've actually thought about this a fair bit are the kids so mcken this year yeah are they that much better than they were do you know what i mean or is there's so much hype because you're it's it's strong do you know what i mean you know what i'm getting at he's a great player absolutely going to be awesome but every year the number one has to be. Here's the example. Was there a bigger hype train in the last five years than Padard at one? Probably not. No. And what
Starting point is 00:16:27 was the circus and the, the, the, buzz around Celebrini? It's okay. Who's better right now today? Celebrating. Like, it's just. And we're closer to it. McKenna's one medicine. There's a one. I think DuPont's the guy you want. If you want my honest
Starting point is 00:16:43 opinion. He's another year away. I know. No, of course, you know, I'm just for the fans here. But, I mean, McKenna feels like, that's a star. No, but every time it's, I know, it feels like, oh, generational, generational, generational. That is Sheifer last year. Schaefer wasn't for sure.
Starting point is 00:17:00 Power was kind of like that's COVID year. It beats good, but not a superstar. I just feel like there's a lot of generational that are supposed to be. Yeah, you're right about that. A generational should be once a generation, and we hear it every three years. That's not fair of these kids. Yeah, you know, the dude's the guy for this generation. It was Sid before
Starting point is 00:17:15 him, before that, you had Mario before that, you had Wayne. Those are the generational from Mount Rushmore guys. Nate McKinnon's pretty good. Yep. You take a night, not generational,
Starting point is 00:17:28 but I don't know that it's, yeah, that's just it. And it sounds like you're slighting. It's like, no, it's more just, it's a Hall of Famer.
Starting point is 00:17:34 It's just that the height train gets crazy, right? Cal McCar is more generational, in my opinion, only because he plays defense, but that unique. Since Bobby Orr. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:43 It was crazy about the draft here is it's, maybe I'm wrong, but it's not, I don't feel like it's something that Flames fans, because it's never been high enough that you get super pumped
Starting point is 00:17:53 for it's more of like, please don't mess it up. Like who's at 16? I don't even know who's left. What about 13? 09, that's exciting. You got one of those top pictures. A. Yes. Yeah, we can debate this till it's or if you got number one,
Starting point is 00:18:11 it just doesn't have to. It's just like. Even think about what Leon at three did for the Oilers, because we always make fun of them for four first overalls. Leon's the second best player that I've ever drafted. Yarvey didn't work and they've had some. Yakopov was a bust and he was a one. Ryan Nage Hopkins, a nice
Starting point is 00:18:27 player, certainly not a star. Yeah. But like dry saddle at three that allows you to have two superstars and theoretically have a dynasty. I've got zero superstars. Not doing a great job of selling this season. The big watch party tonight of Cowboys. It's going to be fun regardless.
Starting point is 00:18:45 We're going to have a hell of time. Just to have fun watching. Remember last year we were castell you, I don't think it's going to be that good. They had the big fight right off. God, Nancy, get them. Matt's and then Gordiardine, overtime. Woo, look at this.
Starting point is 00:18:56 We had a montage. Got all excited. That could happen. What would we draft? 16th. Oh. Yeah, Montreal's pick. Had that pick in a long, yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:07 I like the, I like the player off North Dakota. Oh, there. Yep. Cole or Roshney. I made a song, cool. Sure. Interestingly, the Canucks did pick ahead of the Flameson last year's draft, and Braden Coots made the team out of junior,
Starting point is 00:19:21 right out of his draft class. We'll see how long they hang on to him, but you could see him in the line up against the flames tomorrow night. Another center from the Western League. That big, Ridden? Gridden made it. Took him a year.
Starting point is 00:19:34 Good work. Hansik's here two years in a row. Even with a Rett dragging him down. Look at him succeed, huh? There's a lot of weight to carry when I'm on your back.
