So my takeaways were the bills can play with anyone this league and the bills are still the bills. And we'll shoot themselves in the feet. themselves rather than get beaten by other people. It's wild how you could feel both ways about this team like that. They're phenomenal. You're not going to beat us. We'll beat ourselves. Yeah.

And anything. Like you needed to kick a 59-yarder in the rain to beat the bills and get some help. And they did that. And the bills turn over the ball. Like it's just wild that if they play well, they absolutely can win a Super Bowl. But at the same time, like, how are you six and six? How? So many.

unforced errors and dropped passes. A lot of drop balls in the second. I was going to say for once, it feels like you come away with, you're not hating your quarterback. You're not hanging it on him. The defense has been beat up injury-wise, and they've actually done a decent job.

And finally, like I got off the plane, I looked at everything. I'm like, how do you score that many? And then, well, finally, the D didn't hold up, right? The offense showed up to do what they can do, but the D couldn't handle it. But the Eagles are a good team. The best.

That's the kind of quote that'll get you fired. The power play as it sits coming into tonight league wide 11.8% 27th, which makes you set how many teams in the league and who's possibly worse? How are you? How are you eight? Well, 68. We're going to guess the sharks for. Sure. The caps have been miserable. Caps are terrible.

Like, I think they're like 7%. Something like half of the flames are a few days ago. And then I'll look up the other three that would be worse than the flames. But it's not good company. Which, again, it might make you feel better. And how many of those teams have? Yeah, not as many, I would guess. Like, let's go straight five on four.

This is you really asking me to grind now. But again. Hainesie would be. I know, but Hainesie isn't doing a live goddamn show. Where's Hanzi? Bottom in the league, Washington Capital, 6%. Chicago 9.7. What did you just say?

6%. 6% with Ovi. And John Carlson. I know. I told it was bad. I can't even wrap my head around that. They have one power play goal on the road. Two at home.

Chicago's second last, St. Louis third. Philly torts. Fourth from the bottom. And Columbus. Johnny Hackies and company worse than the flames by a percentage and a half. Could you get line ain't cheap right now?

Like, can he still score a 30? He's a little burpuk. Yeah, it's good. Yeah, it's definite, definitely, definitely gauche. Five on five, the flames have 40, three goals. Okay.

Which is actually more than the Vegas Golden Knights have five on five. They're not a big high-power offense. You know what? Because I just, I just looked at it briefly. They don't have a 10-goal score, much like the Flames. Coleman scores the other night.

He's now leading the team with six. It's scoring by committee. They got a whole raft of guys with three, four, five goals, but no one's really run away with it. Five on three. Flames have one, five-on-three goal. No. Is that right? That's what it says in the game.

It was in Evanston then. That was the one. No, but your thing is when they would have the five on threes and not get, you know, right, the opportunities and no goals. Yeah. And then we would come on here and rip them. I don't know. We talk with this all the time and then you, you make the joke that you, of course, were always on the big on the power play.

Yeah. I don't know how you coach it. I don't know what you do. It's so situational and it's, it is situational, but it's also a talent thing. it does it's both how much skill you have in the ice let's stop let's stop and let's be scientific about this because that's what we are go to the top five teams yeah it's okay well do you know like i'm i'm guessing okay i'm guessing well i'm not even guessing i'm curious is it a bunch of guys with high end skill jersey high end skill jack hughes dougie hamilton like deep team

offensive tofolia finisher so my point sorry man i'll keep going it's going to help your point Tampa's number two. Cooch, Stamcoast, Point, Headman, Rangers number three, Panera, and Crider, Fox, I mean, stars all over. Zabana Jad. Canucks at four, they're on a heater, and their star players have been great. Their skill players have been unreal this year,

including J.T. Miller, not just, you know, Besser, Pedersen, and then five is Toronto, who it's like, yeah, they can shoot the lights out. New Jersey may be surprised me. I don't, I think it's only because we underappreciate what they do. I think they're super high skills. I think if we watched them more, you'd be like, oh, okay, I get it. But all those other ones make perfect sense. Totally.

And Evanton's six, and they've had a down year, and they're only clicking at 25.5%. And so, but back to what we were talking about, it has nothing to do with how Savard can coach it. It's about who's making plays. Yeah. Well, I mean, and I think it's both. If Savard sees the personnel and has asked about his power play, you don't say you have a top five unit. If you don't think you could do some things with those pieces, but those pieces need to be better, no question. You don't have a power play defenseman.

No, I think Rasmus is your closest to a power play guy, and he's probably a power play two on most teams. He's a perfect power play quarterback. And Hanefin out there drives me insane, like, great player. That's not his skill set. No, but they're just reaching. They're trying. And they're trying everything. And your high-end skill guy is supposed to be hubert over it.

You can't trust him to carry the puck and lug it in make a play. And he's turning over the puck like crazy. Your best finish is Coronado. He's in the A. Like, I get the personnel's not great, but I don't know that I know that Mark Savard would have. a middle of the pack team in the top 10. Is he good, great average or below average coaching the power pole? I have no idea. I don't know how to measure

this stuff. Yeah, I don't either. That's a tough one. I just wouldn't put a whole lot of it on marks of ours. No, I don't either. Because you don't go into a power play looking to score ugly goals. Wow, but you might now. Why not? You know, I just be, but on the power play, you generally have

time and space and you try and make high skilled plays. And they're not equipped for that. No. You got a skilled player that has a little a little more time and space. It can make someone chase them or do something with the puck or take advantage of that extra time. So the flames are past the one quarter pole. They played 21 games now. So after the first period, ish, would be about the one quarter poll.

Their highest school score has six. Let's be friendly on let them times that by four. You got one player who's on pace for 24 goals. We talked about the issues of this club. Weemer brought it up this summer. Like, who's going to score the goals? It's like, well, it's going to be by committee. And it kind of is by committee, but where, you especially,

you can't do things on committee is the power play. That's where you need high skill finishers. And by committee, 18 goals by committee. Like, you have to have a lot of 18 goals. Yeah, for sure.

You need a lot of guys in 15 and 20. So with that group then, why would Washington and even Columbus, say what you want about Line A, but Line A, Goddrow, that's better than any skill they've got here. Werensky's back. He's, yeah.

Right? And then in Washington, you've got one of the best shooters ever. But Baxter Lachshy. Backstrom left. they went through backst. And we watched OV the other day. I think Washington's come a long way. Like I thought they were horses.

They're not a heater until they lost. They looked good lately, except for the power blade. He don't get there. We watched him. And I'm not going to watch him again because it's not worth it. He doesn't need to change with the power play. He just stands still at that.

But I don't even think he, like, I think he's, I said it when they played him. I said, is he becoming a detriment to that team? And he is because you're not taking him off that power play. And it's clicking at 6%.

Clearly there, you think they, they've changed their approach to the powerplay. No, the only difference would be that backstrom's maybe not feeding them as much. Baxham's done. Whoever it is, the whole power play still fake it on the one side and try and slide it across Rovi for the shot. And it ain't happening. Totally.

Yeah. And look, there's every team's got three or four really skilled good players. So someone has to be in the bottom 10, but to click at 6%, that's revolting. Like that's just like unheard of numbers. You could theoretically get an HL. group to come up and do better than 6% if they're well versed and where to put the puck. I'm just trying to think is there any, it's got to get better, right? No, because there's a team one, there's going to be a team at the bottom and a team at the

top. I just be percentage wise, I don't think you would have had, there's six teams under 12% right now. I doubt last year there was 60, there was even one team under 12% for the season. So it's one of those like over larger samples, things normalize some bad luck becomes good puck luck, but they still. co-tending cools off a bit, but someone, yes, we'll have to finish 28 through 30 seconds. Yeah, I was going to say, you'd think maybe it gets better, but I think it feels sure safe right now to say you're looking at a bottom third of the league. Oh, third for sure. Yeah. Now, last year, they did have to Foley. They finished at 19.8%. That was 19th in the league.

It still holds true. It's got to add up to 100. Yeah. Yeah. It really does. Penal kills pulled off. It has helped for sure. Yeah. Last year, the worst power play. in the league was 15.6%. So every team we just mentioned, odds are they'll be much better than they've been. 6%. Is that what the big climb? Jesus. Yeah. So in the final 60 games,

they'll probably do some more school tending to look at and some better finishing on their end. Who the hell's running that power play? Is it, uh, there's a job. Mitch Love? I hope not. For his sake. And how they were the hottest team in the NHL until they lost last week. Mitch and, hey, at Phillips. Come on, home, boys. Well, nobody's talking about Phillips.

Come on home. We got Zari. Come on, come on. What if you still had him? Throw him in that. How do you know? He may not be good. He made his choice.

But Pospisle plays obviously on the weekend, plays. the Dallas game. That's his 10th. He will now need waivers if he goes down. He's not going anywhere. But it doesn't feel like

you weren't, you weren't going to, so I don't know, because D. Simone does go down. It's prior to that 10 game thing. So they still maybe that's what it is. I'm not sure. I think it feels like it. They're at home if they. Simone, I mean, he's been good but not. He was ninth on their depth chart when you started the year and he came in

and performed well as a six for a couple weeks. Tip your cap, send him back to the A and don't lose the asset for nothing. How old is? 25, probably. Oh, he's older than that, actually. The only reason I bring it up is because they were both kind of on that same track, and one went down and the other one stayed up. Yeah, but one was making an absolute statement almost every game.

The other one was just doing okay. And he continues, even though the points had, you came in and he was scoring a point per game there, and even with Zeri, but both of those guys, they're doing what makes them successful. I still want them in the lineup every night. 100%. And I want him with cadre, too, because he's been great.

But what is really clear is this is some kind of disciplinary action by the Chicago Black Hawk. when you say that he's going to be away from the team for the foreseeable future, and you are in a spot where he then issues his own release through his agent saying he's taking time away for personal reasons.

The truth is the Blackhawks have taken the step to have him be away from the team. So I don't know what the end game is here. I don't know what this looks like or where it's going. But those two things, just so we're clear, like they can live in their own. concentric circles. Like you can be taking some time away for personal reasons and you can also be told to stay away at the same time. So it doesn't look pretty, but I don't even know enough to speculate of what this might be.

Is it a missing curfew thing? Is it a, is alcohol involved? Is there more than that? I don't, I really don't know. Because it's one of those things. It's just more curiosity. Because it's been so respectful, right? If it's a personal thing, if it's something, then we don't need to pry, but it's gone on for long enough now.

It's a disciplinary issue. It now comes back to, okay, well, what the hell? What is happening? Yeah, so I think there's attorneys involved. I think there's a franchise that has been through a lot in the last number of years and wants to make sure that they're taking all the right steps. I think there's a really proud player who's at a long career that I think they like having around. that again, I don't know what happened here, but it doesn't sound too pretty.

Taylor Hall is out, out, right? And now this, like, what's left for Connor Bedard and this maiden season to work with in terms of that veteran insulation they tried? I know Felino's there, but, like, they did it. I thought a pretty decent job of putting some pieces around to take some pressure off him, yeah. And that's gone.

And Taylor Hall was a big part of that, started the season on his line. you had Corey Perry there who seemed to be playing some really good hockey, if not having quite the point production that he wanted. And now that support system has eroded. The good news is it seems like Connor Bardard is able to do a lot on his own, 17 points and 18 games to start. And I don't feel as crazy as I did in the first week of the season

or second week when I said 100 points. I don't think he's going to end up too. far from that number. Yeah. Hey, look, he looks like a point for game player. And that's with who is his winger? Like Tyler Johnson. And that says a legit 18 year old that couldn't even sign his contract in July because he wasn't old enough yet.

Yeah. I want to move to the wild. You had a great chat with Bill Garron on your frankly speaking podcast that I thoroughly enjoyed. My first takeaway was I really need to drink beers with Bill Garin. And the second one is they're in a bit of a hole here. They came home from Sweden and lost again. they're not where we thought they'd be in the standings.

What's real and what's a bad run of luck and injuries? So I've drank beers with Bill Guerin, and it is an experience, and I highly recommend it. Second, it's been a really odd start to their year, and you'd listen to that pod and you'd think, okay, it's really clear that Bill Guerrins likes and thinks Dean Everson is a good coach. And then you read the headline today in the athletic from Mike. Russell, who's as plugged in as anyone with any team, and he says that the seat, the hot seat

for Dean Everson is boiling. And it doesn't seem like that's the move they want to make. Bill Garron also acknowledged that he isn't going to be able to trade his way out of the mess that the Wilder in. But I personally look at this team and I say 65% penalty killing. They're sloppy in their own end and their goaltenders obviously have. and help them out. And that's a chicken and the egg problem.

But I look at this team and I say 200 point seasons, man, the door is wide open for them to get back into the race with how mushy this Central and Pacific Division wildcard race is. It's brutal to watch. Like it's a pillow fight. And the flames are right back in the mix. It's wide open for Minnesota, Edmonton, Calgary, whoever it might be to get their stuff together and go on a run.

It's interesting there too with the wild. I think they were probably relying on their young guys to come through for the Matt Boldie, I think is a stud, will be a stud. One goal to start the season. Brock Faber on the back end, he's been all right. Roasting, they're waiting for still to pop. What happened to Caprizzoff? I mean, this guy was a hard trophy guy two years ago.

And I, you know, thought he'd be like a rocket ship taking off. And he's, you know, he goes 40 goals to enter the year as the league as a rookie, 47 the next year, last year on a shortened year with injuries, 49 goal pace. And this year he's out of the gate on track for 27. I mean, that's not going to work. Yeah. Do you have to go?

Stutzler arrived early and now Lucas Raymond, I think, he's almost at 50 goals and Jake Sanderson, Jamie Drysdale, those guys look like young studs. You go down a little bit further. Cole Perfetti's been very good. They expect Jack Quinn to be good in Buffalo. It looks like that. with so much unknown going into that 20-20 draft, the team still made out all right,

at least in chunks of the first round. They, yeah, I mean, it's taken some patience. I'm still not, I have big questions about what's the ceiling for Lafranier. And, you know, I think we've finally seen glimpses this year of Byfield, but this is a guy who had really struggled to put it together the last few years and kind of,

I was going into this season saying, this is kind of it. Like if you can't be a full-fledged producing NHL player at this point with some of the rope that he's gotten might be in trouble. But then you look at some of the underlying analytics. And they're not even analytics, just stats. Like the,

the NHL has that new system where you can look up and see how fast guys skate. And you're like, wait, Bifield is this big. And he's one of the league leaders and sustained speedbursts had that size like i don't care what if he couldn't score into the ocean or couldn't score it a brothel with a hundred bucks hanging out of his shirt i'd still want that guy on my team to give him some runway and a chance to put it all together and it seems like he's doing it is it too much to expect i think the young guys are all super skilled they're awesome and you got guys like badard

they come in and and other guys that come in and play really really good but we also not jump to conclusions, but if they haven't had success by 21, 22, like lots of times we're thinking we're going to close the door on them. 15, 20 years ago, that was when they grew into what they were. Are we getting ahead of ourselves a little bit just because some of the kids can jump in and play with that without losing a beat? Well, think about it from this perspective. If you're drafted at 18 and you haven't really done it by 22,

or 23, you're probably already on to your second GM. Yeah. And then you're someone else's problem. And they're just looking to move on and cash in as much as they can for you before, you know, the clock runs out and everyone knows what you are. So I think that part of it, I also think the instant impact that some of these guys make, like Stutzla right into the league and is, he's a superstar now. He's that good.

So when you see some of the other guys in the same class and you're like, oh, that's great. Congratulations, Alexi on your 38 point season. Like, it's like, well, what, what, you haven't, you have to answer to that. Why is the guy that was picked a few picks after you tripling your production? How do the Flyers have a worse power play than the Flames? Yeah, what's going on? And they're winning. They're in the playoffs.

I mean, the Flames power play has been atrocious. And we look this morning, there's frigging three, there's five. teams below them. Washington has a 6% power play. Goodness, gracious. I just don't know how, because it's been hard to watch here. Is that real?

It makes sense. 6%. Wow. And Ovi, just you would think, just blasting away. Three power play. The power play hasn't changed.

But unpredictability doesn't ensure that he's going to turn it around. No, but we've seen him play good hockey before. His first year here, he had two shutouts that year, the first half of the season. He was phenomenal. Markstrom was on that shutout heater. We've seen him play well. He's just not playing well. But we've also seen goalies who have had good stretches of play and that disappear.

Yeah, right. And so. So it's just as likely it's that. I don't know that it's that necessarily. I just think when you saw Markstrom last year off of four months, how many people thought this is going to turn around? He's too good to stay this bad. And how many people thought this guy's dead?

Markstrom and Bladar are too completely. I agree. But my point is that goalies are so volatile. We get caught up in the present. Like that you were like, Marksman's not a big game goal. He's no good. And like, Brett, he had Vesnavotes two out of four years.

years like considerable like finish fourth finish second in three year span he was insane in the playoffs in the bubble in emminton they had a shitty decor in front of him but he looked so bad for four months it was like yeah you're maybe you're right like maybe he's lost it and then he had a kid and everything changed and so it's just if you're only going to look at one and two months spells of a goalie i don't think you have any clue what the future holds now your point is he's never really been dominant at the initial level and i'll grant you that i'll say that's kind of it's not back-to-to-back games, but it's still a pretty small. You're talking about a year.

Sample size of him playing. Again, none of it, Vesna caliber. I mean, he's been, he's been, he needs to be a backup. That's all you see. He's had performances worthy of a backup. Right now they aren't. So I don't know. And then again, if it's a team that's looking to add a goaltender, who else is

looking to shed? Would you take McKenzie Blackwood? You probably would. We're making less than a million on a one-year deal. You'd rather do that than what are at this point, no question. He's making big dough and not playing too. If you're going to get Vladar, you're betting on the skill set. You're not saying look at how good he is right now, right?

Is there ever a time where you just, you can put them on waivers because no one's going to take him? Not a 2.00. Where you just do what you're trying to do? You do a wolf in Vladar swap? It's a same. Would San Jose kick tires on this guy? What's the worst case scenario? I don't think so.

Why wouldn't they? Why would they? Because they're probably going to trade a goalie. What do they need Vladomar for to see if he's good? you're betting on a better skill set than bringing up a guy from the coast. But are they trying to win? Maybe you found a starter for next year.

That's my whole point. It's the type of risk you would take. So how did we feel about Devin Dubnick when he was in Montreal and didn't even dress in the playoffs? Done. And he came back and was awesome. Okay, so that's one case in the last 25 years.

I still think Dubnick had a better run. Dubek was a first round pick. There was a pedigree of play. Well, and I know that's maybe not the best comparable. First year is here, 906-275. I think some of this is back to talking to Sadorov. And what are you trying to do with the team? Are you trying to be good?

Like I wonder, do you send him down so he can play a bunch of games? You know? If you can, yeah. And you're not worried at all about someone claiming them and he turns into a goal. At 2.2 million, no chance. Take him. And if you take him at 2.2, that's. You're not traded up for anything right now, so you have to play him some way.

That just means Wolf comes in. You save the cap hit. you'd love it's got points in four of a six starts i know he has been good i'm trying to build the case i don't know i know i know but it's it's it's not about if you can't trade him he's not valuable enough to another team right he's not worth two point two and you're not bringing him back because this is last year no he's got next year which is why so you want to get rid of it you'd never you can't have ladar sit again like or a wolf so you'd be happy just to dump the well i think they move a goal this year for sure the hope is that bladar play well enough you could
