You can't be changing.
I feel like Mr. Rogers, cardigan off, put in the indoor shoes.
Outdoor shoes are gone.
Welcome to the program.
It is a game day retro.
Put your helmet on.
Love it.
This should be a fun one.
We have visitors in studio, but we've got a lot to get through between now and then.
We're going to have to be on task class.
If we're on task, we can leave early for recess.
Okay. Good?
We'll try.
I mean, for us, on task,
it's probably just not lighting something on fire.
That's as good as we can really get.
Were you a class clown?
I feel like you would have been a class clown, right?
I mean, it's probably light.
I don't know.
That means yes. Come on now.
You don't know.
I don't think I was the-
Throwing spitballs, pass a note.
No, I don't think so.
Easily distracted, for sure.
Like, in today's world, I'd have been
qualify for meds.
It is true.
It's probably something wrong in there, too.
I feel like you turned out A-OK.
Aside from some kooky science here there,
I feel like you've turned out to be a normal,
productive member of society, right?
I'm proud of you.
Overcoming that distractibility.
Deal with adversity, you overcome?
Look at the success you can have.
Look at us?
Yeah.
I mean, look at us.
Pinnacle of life.
What's the clip?
is like, is it a meme, guys, or it's just like, get a load of us.
Like, us guys.
Like, I try to remember the context of it, but it's just that.
It's just that.
We got a great one today, better people than us.
Even better hockey players than you read even.
Easy.
Certainly collectively.
You didn't get near 5,000 games, did you?
I feel like you stalled out just a little bit shy of 5,000 games played.
Just, yeah, I was on my way.
A touch.
And I'm looking, there was 24 seasons consecutively that there was.
as a member of this particular family that played in the league.
You were a little light on 24 seasons, right?
Yeah, I didn't get to a quarter century mark.
Yeah, that's always wanted to.
You know what?
You've always been a sponge, though,
and you're always into collecting information.
Our guests will be lending a ton today.
But before we get to the Sutter brothers,
we'll have a few of them in here.
We'll explain why they're here.
We'll get some great stories
and the incredible impact that they have in central Alberta.
But before all that, it's game day.
It's Carolina.
they are going to be fucking pissy tonight in Calgary.
Why are you so pissy, Leon?
Leon wasn't pissy last night.
It was the Cains and Rod Brindamore.
I have bad news.
I believe the Oilers are back.
Oh, I agree.
I think I was actually just looking at the standings
as the loopy, warm-upy deal was going.
And I'm like, this is not good.
Yeah, they're tomorrow or the Saturday.
or maybe Monday.
I mean, it's objects in the rearview mirror are closer than they appear.
They seem to have going in the right direction.
Minnesota as well.
Yeah, Minnesota's coming as well.
Now, hey, look, as you said yesterday, all great news.
All excellent developments.
There's no downside to this season.
Someone reached out that is very much on the Rhett and Pinder worldview and said,
if things go our way tonight and he mixed like a five-game parlay,
the flames could be fifth from the bottom in the entire NHL.
Wow.
Top five pick.
32, 31, 31, 30, 29, 28.
Fifth, fifth overall.
That'd be like the second highest pick in franchise history.
Wow.
If you get lucky, there's a bit of a...
You can jump up.
You win a lottery.
Get the lottery balls going.
Whatever worked in Northern Alberta for that decade there with the lottery balls,
get some of that luck down here.
Let's go.
Come on.
Carolina's good, rats.
They are second in the Metro and they have been good despite,
like, really bad goaltending.
Freddie Anderson,
who is often good, but hurt is hurt.
Yeah.
Everyone was talking about how poor they are,
and the goaltending is garbage,
and they're second in the Metro.
Yeah, and I think the Metro is a bit of a dog's breakfast.
Like, I think the Rangers are very good,
and I'm not sure about the rest of that crew.
Jersey's been disappointing.
Pittsburgh and Washington feel like older versions
of good teams from years ago.
Yeah, they're hitting.
And the Islanders, I'm just not sure.
Like, if you need a group of guys to paint your barn,
Hey, you got a big crew.
We got some brushes.
We got a few gallons of paint.
I think they'll be fine at that.
I just don't know that they're a good hockey team for, you know,
playoff good.
So the Metro's kind of stuck in that weird middle ground.
If it's the Atlantic, I think Carolina is a lot more trouble.
But they have been a team that's almost always had great goaltending numbers
and has played incredibly in front of their goaltenders to make life easy,
kind of like Vegas does now, for whatever reason that isn't the case this year.
Maybe it's too much Tony DeAngel on the back end.
Maybe it's goalies just all.
all three of them not lining up,
but Peter Kachetkov has looked like the heir to the throne for a while.
He's not been great.
Rant has not been great.
Anderson's hurt.
And it's a third game in four nights for Carolina tonight in Calgary.
This is an interesting combination of cranky and tired.
Well,
and they've been kind of applauded for their approach to goaltending,
where they're not going to overpay and they're not going to overcommit and this and this
and that.
Maybe it's coming to roost a little bit.
I don't know.
I mean, I still.
It's a third of a season, right?
Yeah, I still think they're a hell of a team.
I think they were real upset last year when they lost in the semifinals to Florida.
Thought they outplayed the Panthers.
They probably did outplay the Panthers.
Couldn't get the victories.
And I think that's tough to overcome sometimes.
It gets in your brain a little bit.
But I don't, if you're looking for a tap in victory, not against this team.
Yeah, there's not that.
They will be fatigued.
It was Winnipeg, Edmonton last night.
They'll be somewhat fatigued.
But the funny thing about good teams is they don't make a lot of excuses.
No, I don't think the canes are making excuses.
It's almost just like I think this game might be competitive because it's the third game in four nights.
And because their goaltending has been as bad as it's been in the last 10 years probably.
And to be fair, like it's kind of like Edmonton situation.
They're due for some bounces.
They're due for better goaltending.
And all of a sudden, Edmonton's got some goaltending.
And what have they done?
Five wins in a row.
I don't view it differently.
Those two teams, I think, compared to expected goals,
have been the worst two in the league around the quarter pole.
So if they get some saves,
Carolina's right where we think they should be.
This is not an easy game for the Calgary Flames.
And I guess the decision that the coaching staff will have to make
or has made already is what goalie are we putting into this spot?
And I think probably the corresponding decision is
the other guy is going to play Saturday, isn't he?
Because it's a Thursday night and a Saturday afternoon.
It's not two games in two days, but it's not the regular rest either.
You'd probably split these two up.
Who are you going with if you're the boss?
Well, I said I'd like to see Wolf.
I think I understand the showcasing Vladar thing as well.
But I don't know.
This kid's 118 games in the H.L.
I don't know what more we need to see there.
If you want to chase ceiling and see what you have, Wolf's got the higher ceiling here.
Let's see what he's got.
Yeah, and you're probably right.
I'll probably go back and forth.
And I mean, unless somebody is spectacular,
then you maybe ride him a little bit.
So again, I don't have a strong opinion either way.
Like you can play, right?
Like, it's either Wolf today or it's Wolf Saturday,
it's Fla-R-R-T-R-Saturday afternoon.
It's one or the other.
Like, it's not, I don't see,
unless it wants to hang a zero,
you're not using.
Yeah, I don't, if you're pounding your fist
because one guy deserves it more than the other guy,
I think you're out to lunch, I think.
It's a tough.
argument to make. Yeah, yeah. It's really more of a, you know, what appetizers
your favor. There's no wrong answers. The chef makes good food. It all depends on how much
the GM wants to medal in the coach's affairs and get down there and go, no, we need to do,
you know, if he's got a plan. I think I agree with that. Like, Connie would probably say,
let's give Ladar a little runway that would help my side of the business. And I think Huska would
say, I like this wolf kid. Everything that's gone in on this year has either been a screen,
a body on him or a tip. Like, that's, I think this guy, like, I, I think this guy, like,
I could see the coach and the GM maybe being 60, 40 on other sides of who they'd like to see here.
But whatever.
There's two games in one and a half days.
Yeah, I think you're going to see both and everyone and all of it.
Yeah.
And hopefully not again, both in the same game.
Yeah, if you see both tonight, that really throws the plans out the window.
Carolina saw both goalies last night.
Things didn't go well for them.
You know what?
We have it in the Pinder report.
Jack, let's just do it now because this is the gold of last night.
we all think the world of Rod Brindamore.
He might be the most popular coach in the NHL.
He's a guy that I think has done an excellent job.
He's so good players want to go play in Carolina.
Totally.
And Rod was not thrilled.
One of the things that it's kind of you've come to expect there,
it's the strong defensive play,
solid no name net minding a lot of the time.
But really, they just work.
And when Rod Brindamor is your coach,
you really don't have an excuse not to work.
If he doesn't inspire you to lay it out there,
you're probably not right for a professional sports league.
Last night, it didn't go well.
This is Rod, I believe, on the Cain's broadcast, things were not good.
I think it was two goals in the first minute for Edmonton.
This was a route.
We're on a way to losing 50-0 right now.
I've never seen our team play this brutal.
At this point, you know, I don't really, I'm lost for words, to be quite honest.
We weren't ready to start, which that was clear.
And now we're just kind of doing things.
not the way we do it.
And this is this way you get.
So at this point, we're probably turning the page.
Well, thanks for doing this.
I know it's not easy.
Oh, that's, uh, we're on our way to lose in 50-0.
That's how we open.
Backing it in and moving on.
We're in bleepin Canada.
We're all through the prairies.
These jerks didn't start on time.
I've never seen this group play like this.
We've got to play tomorrow.
Frick and McDavid hasn't even scored yet.
We're in trouble.
We're in trouble.
They scored at the 28 second mark, the 41 second mark.
It was two nothing oilers.
There might have been puddles still that had not frozen.
It was that early.
A lot of people didn't have their beer yet.
That's true.
I mean, less beer spilled because, well, it's.
But, yeah, you want to get there.
You're probably mad.
And if you're in the beer line, you're probably like,
damn it, I missed the goal.
How the hell did I'm?
Again.
Two.
Come on, guys.
Save some.
There was more.
There was four more after that.
Six one.
Your final.
Goodness.
I don't know if you saw the McDavid assist on the Hyman Hattrick goal.
That's coming up in the Pender Report,
but it's basically one of those McDavid plays
where he walks through three or four guys,
embarrasses them all in front of,
you know, these are grown men with families.
He's really disparaging them.
And then decides to slide it over to an open teammate
who has a yawning six by four to deposit the puck.
Must be fun.
I want to be that guy.
And the Oilers Twitter is getting a little louder.
Yeah, as you'd find with a five game winning streak.
Interesting.
Jack Hyman's better than Austin Matthews.
No, he just plays on McDavid's wing.
He's a lovely player.
Settle down here.
I don't know.
I want to tell you about some things coming up.
We've got a really, really, really busy January.
We're going to Phoenix.
What did I promise you I'd do yesterday?
Get your passport.
And what photo did I send you?
An old passport.
I got it punched.
When you punch the old passport, it's done.
So I am living without passport right now.
That's because the new one is in process.
I'm ready to go.
I've given myself a nice two to three-week cushion.
between when it's supposed to be done
and when I need to be at the airport.
We're in good shape here, Rhett,
talking with Maddie up at world headquarters
in the cultural capital.
Very few trips left.
So please do join us on the Barnburner vacation
presented by Alberta Blue Cross,
making memories and protecting those memories
with travel insurance,
Alberta Blue Cross,
the best at that.
Nationgear.ca is where you can join us.
But that's not the only thing we're doing in January.
We're also going back up to Jasper.
Now, you were dope.
How did you miss this?
last year. What the hell was going on in your life? I looked at the forecast. I, I wimped out and I
couldn't leave the country and I looked at this forecast. See, I, here's the thing. If you,
if you live in the States long enough, I think it becomes like a badge of honor, but you grew
up with this shit. So it's like, like Frank gets to go back to Philly and tell all his buddies. I
played in minus 26 Fahrenheit or whatever. And it was, you put another layer on, you play hockey.
There's fire pits, little, uh, liquid courage out on the rink. It was a great, great weekend.
We're going back to Jasper.
We're super excited about it.
And why would you go to Jasper?
It's already winter there, Red.
They're rocking and rolling.
Marmot Basin's open for skiing and snowboarding.
Lift tickets currently 60% off.
Yeah, I like that.
And then as they open more terrain, we'll get back to more normal pricing.
But ski season's underway in Jasper.
They're rocking winter out there.
They've got a new quad chair opening in December,
higher up than previous chairs have taken you and access to the Alpine Bowls.
the escape card, 50% off
full day lift tickets, all season long,
no blackout dates.
Venture beyond, go to jasper.
Dot travel for more
details. We are excited to get back up there
in January.
And by we, I mean, probably just boom
and I, because we can't expect you to
do two trips in the same month, could we?
It's a lot.
Yeah.
That's a lot. You do have three kids in hockey.
I sympathize. I got two other
on the same team. It's like a life time.
It's like a last night.
today the one boy took off to Notre Dame just an hour ago.
Like, no.
South Bend.
South Bend, okay.
Yeah, not Wilcox.
Is he on a recruiting trip?
What the hell's happening?
What's he doing in Notre Dame?
They got a five game weekend out there.
Okay.
So Junior Sabres, and we're talking, he's 14 or something like that?
This is the other kid, the Amherst team.
Okay.
So just the community squad.
I don't know why they're going all the way.
Seven hour, eight, I think drive to South Bend to place.
Is that how far you have to go to find a good hockey game?
No, no, you don't.
You really don't.
Somebody must know somebody somewhere that wanted to visit.
Yeah, it's like, hey, we got to make a bunch of money on hockey tournaments.
Let's convince people to drive eight hours in the winter to come play here.
Yeah.
And it's the first day of real snow today here in Buffalo.
So it's finally arrived.
we have had a
what would you call it a skiff
overnight it was rain turning into snow
and 10 to 20 centimeters expected
in the next day or so here Redd
so RJ's in studio Jack
RJ can you lift the blinds
we'll get a little snow check here
see what we're doing is it coming
are we still waiting
oh it's coming yes
oh boy
yeah our guests are supposed to be here at 11
we'll see about that
at least parking's easier around here
They're also used to...
Yeah, this is fine.
The six months of the year, they're used to this, I think.
Yeah.
The Viking weather system is this, I think, for half a year.
They probably still enjoy it.
Do you want to do a little ask ret?
Yeah, let's do it.
You may as well do it.
I got a couple questions sent in.
I am going to encourage people in the comments to have Ask Rets.
Jack, you'll star those and slide them in as we go.
We don't have a ton of time for Ask Rett because we have guests.
We have a Pinda Report.
We've got our incredible Christmas charity.
the Top Shelf Elf that we've got some new auction items for today already. Day 2 new items.
Guys have already got bids in for their Barnburner experience to watch us in studio and have lunch.
Apparently a hot item. I feel like people are reading that wrong. It's just watching the same damn show you watch on YouTube every day anyway.
That's it. And then lunch.
Interesting to that cooler behind you is what they're interested in.
Yeah, we might need to get reloaded today. I've got some visitors.
Anyway, we do it every week.
It is for our good buddy, Greg, at Bon Ton Meat Market.
It's just the best ever.
I mean, we're talking like 100 years of doing things the right way,
treating people right, and the best meat period in the province.
It's all our buddy Greg at Bon Ton taking care of you.
1921, Rhett.
Since then, just high quality products and the best service.
AAA, Alberta beef, free-range poultry, grain fed, Alberta lamb,
milk fed veal and fresh Alberta pork.
Calgary Consumer Choice Award winner for best deli meat market, seemingly every year,
28 Crowfoot Circle Northwest, Bontan Meat Market.com.
Okay, we will start in the inbox.
It is AskRed at Flamesnation.ca, or jump into the comment section if you have an Ask Red for Ret.
We'll start with, this is from Jay.
Hey, Rhett.
Why does Frank say Zadorov's name differently than everyone else?
Is it called Zadarov?
I think that's the Philly slang.
They got a little
twang to their
accent or whatever.
It's always in the vowels. That's where the difference is,
isn't it? Yeah. Okay.
So, and how is,
how are you and Frank? Are you guys
were tight, mended fences now?
I gotta come up with a double or nothing
bet or get, uh, get a bottle of booze to them.
Yeah, I mean, I do sort of think like a year and a half's
about the time you should.
It's a nice surprise present.
It's Christmas.
Once he's quit on you giving it to him,
that's when you got to get it to him, right?
Once he's given up that he'll ever get the bottle,
now you win him back.
Plus, you know,
if you go back to that bet,
he really bamboozled me.
He already knew.
He already had it.
He had the info.
He's an insider.
Yeah.
And I believe what was it,
that the bills game would get canceled and moved?
And you're like, no, no, no, it's Buffalo.
We'll play through anything.
And then within five minutes,
it's like,
the bills have postponed their game and it's moved to the board.
Damn it.
Yeah.
Careful when you're betting with the insiders.
Let's go to the comments.
Jack, we'll start with, uh,
Rhett,
did you ever play any NHL video games?
You were featured in.
And if you did or you knew someone did,
what was your favorite game that you were in?
Oof.
My favorite.
I did not play any NHL video games I was featured in.
I was never a big gamer.
Okay.
The one game,
I realize I shouldn't be a gamer.
I was a rookie.
It was called Diablo.
In Florida, I wasn't a rookie, probably my second to 30.
And I game Diablo on the computer, played it, single,
went to practice, came home for practice and sat and played that game.
And all of a sudden I'm like, oh, it's dark out.
What time is it?
8.30.
The Diablo vortex got you.
Wait a minute.
I can't be doing that.
Next day, my back is just.
A king, I'm like, ah.
No, I wasn't a big gamer.
The parents were always pretty tight on gaming consoles when I was growing up,
but they would let us have like a blowout weekend now and then.
So it might be like once over the holidays.
Like, okay, we'll go to Blockbuster and we'll wrench you at Nintendo 64 for like 24 hours.
Yeah, that's.
Sleep over, go to the basement, like popcorn, like load up.
And we play till like two, three in the morning, wake up early, play the next day.
And at one point, I had to get up in.
vomit. It was just like, we're done here.
We didn't sleep. We didn't eat well.
And now I just like have vertigo. It was too
much. And that was great because then I was like,
I've had my fill. I don't need to run back to that.
That's probably, I would parent it the same way,
right? Yeah, that's right, Jerry,
Jay. Oh, gee. So what was this Diablo
game? Is this a race car game? I couldn't
get by the fat guy, but then
you had to go into the cage and lock the door
and you could hit him through the cage
to take him down and he couldn't get you.
Okay.
Yeah, someone knows that Diablo game better than idea.
We'll stay in the comment section.
Look at this.
Darrell checking in.
Rhett, you a big baseball guy.
Otani coming to Toronto.
Is he going to be a blue jeet?
I believe he is.
I think it's a 62, 38% chance that Shohei is a blue jay.
That math checks out, Rhett.
It has to be accurate.
If those two things out up to 100, you're right.
Please.
Advance math.
Please.
I'm definitely good jersey.
And I'm, like they said yesterday, I'm down with the line item,
whoever I got to pay.
Yeah, the phone bill just put a show up.
a Shoah tax every month, just add 10 bucks to my bill.
I'm fine with it.
Let's do it.
And you're also buying me a jersey, remember?
Because you said, no, I, or that blue DAC jacket, which is way more expensive than an Otani.
Jack jacket would be sweet.
Yeah, that'd be good.
You could wear that once the Jays are in the World Series.
That'd be a move, hey?
A DAC jacket over top of your Otani jersey?
Deadly.
Blue, blue.
Another one coming out on email yesterday.
People think they're funny, eh, when they're asking these questions.
Oh, hilarious.
Yeah, yeah.
Hey, Retro, last year I converted my old party camper, aka the stabbing cabin, into a fishing shack.
Now, since I like that.
A mild winter around southeast Alberta, we still don't have any ice on our lakes.
I'm wondering how I convince my wife that we need to invest in a set of pontoons to put the shack on so me and the boys can get out on the water and start ripping some lips.
I don't, I'm not convinced that you're qualified to do that work.
It does feel like a...
Anyone can cut a hole in a floor and drop a line through it into the lake.
Pontooning and this, I think that's a recipe for disaster.
And you sound like you're a booze can.
So definitely you're not doing it sober.
I think it's a poor idea.
Avoid it all costs.
It says thanks from Coleman.
I don't think that's Blake.
I feel like Blake's got a better setup than that.
He's not...
That's Coleman, Alberta.
He's not MacGyvering like pontoons onto a stabbing cabin or whatever he's calling.
it. Back to the comments.
We've got another one in here from Brian
Hey, Rhett. Favorite
story about bumping into
someone in public wearing your jersey.
Was there one that went particularly
well or poorly? My dad?
Is that a good story?
You got one?
This is the only one who would wear the jersey,
my nephew? There's more now, I bet, than there was
when you play, to be fair. There's not a lot of...
Like, I see a bunch every single game I
go to. Like a bunch.
No. Honestly,
I don't recall running into people wearing my jersey.
And when you're playing, you're probably not, you know, in the 200.
Well, I'm definitely avoiding the people if they are.
Yes.
They're going to be disappointed.
Fomers.
What about that girl in Vegas on the cameras?
Was she wearing your jersey?
No, okay.
There was no Vegas.
There was no Vegas.
Anything else, fellas?
I know we're a little tighter.
Yeah, here's one.
Okay.
Hey, Rhett.
Now the flames are in the business of selling D-Men.
when can we expect utilize them up and get out there again?
I noticed in my stride yesterday, there was a lot of gitch.
I don't know what, not gitch.
It was not smooth or coordinated at all.
And I had to go get some pucks.
And there was a spent, like it wasn't rubber all the way.
And I'm like, the hell difference doesn't make.
I don't, I can't skate anyway.
So you're still in peak form.
That's all I'm hearing here.
You still all the same player, right?
I don't want any edge on my skates because of my toe pick.
No, there's no, there's no playing.
I can't go play for the Oilers anymore.
Yeah, that was a show.
I think it was like eight years ago.
People that RJ would have remembered this, the old show.
2013.
2013, maybe.
The Oilers were so bad.
And this was somewhere in the, we're going to win the lottery four times in seven years
and keep picking first overall.
We're so bad.
We'll finally get good kind of thing.
didn't happen as quick as they thought.
Rhett was like, I could play for the Oilers right now.
And to be fair, you would not have been a downgrade on some of the dusters they were rolling out.
It wasn't far off.
It wasn't far off.
Here's the type of question that usually gets you excited.
None of this hockey nonsense.
This is Tim York.
Hey, Rhett, have you ever had smoked mac and cheese?
You ever cooked it?
You ever done it?
You ever eaten it?
Smoked mac and cheese?
No.
I've had like the pulled pork or the smoked meat on.
on mac and cheese.
So I don't know if that's what you mean.
That's close.
I don't think it's exactly.
Is smoking a pasta thing?
Like I'm trying to think how you do that or is it just a smoked meat in?
I'll tell you what, Tim York.
You got my brain going.
Yorkie.
I know what you're Googling when the setters come in and you pretend to interview them and sit there and scroll your phone.
You're all going to do smoked foods, aren't you?
I am.
I'm not hiding it at least, right?
Okay, final one.
Here's a question for you, Tim.
Should I?
Yeah, Tim.
Are you leading right into a trap here?
Is this something that's been missing his entire life?
Boy, it looks kind of good, but it's mac and cheese, so it should.
I mean, macchise is going to be nails.
All right, last one?
Can you screw mac and cheese up?
It's really hard, folks.
Really hard.
You can, but do you have to be a real idiot?
Hey, what was the last book that you've read?
You're a big reader.
I can go grab it right.
now. I finished it last night. Are you having sleep issues like boom or are you just into it?
I read every night before bed. I love it. That's a healthy thing to do, Randarad. I think you might get
to sleep a little more easily than say, you know, refreshing Twitter all night.
Hang on a second. I think it was called Athena. And it was about a, I mean, it was a fictional
novel about, is fictional fake? Yeah, fiction is the, we made that up. And nonfiction is,
that's real. Yeah. It was about a warship.
It was just average.
Okay.
How long do you take for a book?
If you're into it, like a novel, like let's say it's 300 pages.
Is that a week?
Is that a month?
Is that two days?
No, two weeks maybe.
Okay.
So you're pretty brisk.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
And you were a big reader on the road when you played, weren't you?
Love to read.
But you got to remember.
But when I first played, like, especially back in junior days, you'd have bus rides.
And you could kind of make out a movie on the small little.
little six inch screen
no sound.
You're like, what the?
Then you had a walkman and you could buy a magazine or a book.
So,
and even my first few years pro,
there was no portable devices.
So once you were done with the volumptuous vixens,
then you switched over to novels.
Okay. Yeah.
Cherry.
Okay.
That'll do it for Ask Rat.
Thank you to our good pal, Greg, at Bon Ton.
If you haven't been up or you're like,
no, no, I've been up there.
It's the season.
Don't expect it to be empty.
don't chat Greg Zero off for half an hour.
He's going to be polite, but it's busy.
Let's get going here.
Holiday season coming up.
Get your orders in right now.
If you're looking for a big bird or something special for the holidays,
it is a major entertaining season, right?
You're going to have everyone thrilled.
If you stop by Bontan, 28 Crowfoot Circle Northwest,
bontan meatmarket.com for more information.
Let us do a Pinda report, shall we?
Yes.
Good idea.
We do it for Village Honda.
Pre-owned vehicles on the lot.
talking like closing in on 100 and over 400 in the dealer group,
Northwest Automol VillageHonda.com.
And yes, also they're brand new vehicles bringing in.
Pricing is MSRP, which you love to hear.
More inventory arriving on the ground every day.
Start your automotive adventures at Village Honda.
We start with the Flames and the Canes tonight.
Carolina looks a little bit like this rat.
Remember when the Flames made the Kachuk deal?
And it's like, oh, no, there's another pack.
is out there. Marty Natchez could have been a
where the fuck's Mark?
Fourth line.
I don't think this is where he belongs, but for whatever reason,
this is the way they're lining them up.
Bunting's come over from Toronto since last year.
Is there a bunch of issues at the start of the year with bunting
and who was it?
I'm not sure.
Svetches back in healthily finally.
Fighting and
Bunting's an S-disturber.
He's got a little...
I think they were fighting in practice, but I can't remember who it
who was fighting with.
Yeah.
Is that fiction or nonfiction?
We'll have to Google that.
Let's go to the decor.
What do we got on the back end for these guys?
This is normally where they're great,
and I feel like they're still good,
but all of a sudden it's like,
no, those aren't,
that's not the best blue line in the league anymore.
Slavin, excellent, Burns, offense for sure, still.
Shea and Pesci, your second pair,
free agent, Brett Pesci on the right side.
Chatfield and Dimitri Orlo,
of the longtime capital on the third pair.
It's a good team, but maybe not as,
Colin Carter, this team for the last half decade
was the best blue line in the league.
I don't think it's that right now.
Is that fair?
I think you're underrating them.
I don't know if they're the best thing.
I think they're very good.
I just don't know that.
I think it's really good, but maybe not the best.
All right.
We'll move along NHL last night.
This is, sadly, McDavid and the Oilers appear back.
Have a look of this.
It's not good for the floor.
So that's the tail end of the play.
Let's watch this.
Come up.
Picks the pocket, keeps it on side,
absolutely walks, Bernsey, slides it through the legs of slave and the best
defensive defenseman or one of them in the league.
And there's your tap in for your third goal of the night, Mr. Hyman.
Burnsey, come on.
I'm like, poor, poor, what are you supposed to do there?
Reach, miss, whoop.
Well, I'm going to play the puck or the body, or neither.
Oh, dear.
Okay.
Well, I got the air.
I got the air.
You get McDavid.
Yikes.
That led to the Brennamore rant.
I think it was actually after the Brinimore,
a rough night for the Cains.
They will be playing the third time in four nights tonight at the dome,
seven o'clock puck drop.
And Jack, yes.
We do have a starting goalie.
Tell us about the starting goalie tonight.
Oh,
how are we how old?
The wolf man.
Confirm this.
Do we have a tweet?
What do we got?
We got a pat bomb.
We got a pike bomb.
What do we got here?
Oh, look at this.
There it is.
Dustin Wolf is starting a net tonight against the canes.
Clap for the Wolfman.
And let's hear the howls after the big.
saves tonight at the dome.
Tonight's a special day in Detroit.
I don't know if you celebrate it, but it's
Patty Kanday. Here it is.
He's back, baby.
Showtime in Hockey Town.
Game 25, 7 o'clock
Eastern. Sharks
are the landing spot on the schedule
for Patrick King's debut. Shocks.
Let's have a look at the lines. Let's see what you notice here.
Okay, top lines, probably Larkin.
Robbie Fabry.
Lucas Raymond and then oh yeah
to Brinket and Kane that feels familiar
doesn't it? Joe Villano
congratulations on a really strong final
two thirds of the season
if Patty game's back
Valano's getting a race
we'll revisit this in my
Betway bets of the day later that's fun
Patty Kane's back let's hope he looks something close
to Chicago Kane not Rangers
Kane that was tough game no good
yeah and he's coming off that hip stuff
which is never easy but hey
the legends of the legends
Let's see it.
Arizona might have a new rink thing happening.
Now, Frank was kind of thinking there's trouble in Arizona.
Some other insider saying, well, there is, but maybe they got a rink figured out.
So the coyote's Twitter account is going bananas here.
They're memes.
And the rumor is north of Scottsdale, I guess there's North Scottsdale.
And north of North Scottsdale, there's a piece of land.
Now close your eyes and imagine, Rhett.
I mean, you've seen all that empty desert.
soon could be
coyotes fans in a rink,
I guess. I mean, boy, you really
have a good imagination as a developer, don't you?
It's flat.
It is flat. They're not going to have to, yeah, that's fair.
Very good point.
I texted commies, like, this could work.
That freeway is great. It's just
north of all the money in Greater
Phoenix in terms of Scottsdale.
It's a short commute from where
you want to be not a long one.
And, yeah, it's 20 minutes
instead of the 45. It used to be.
And even for those fans on what they call the East Valley,
the East Valley, the other side of town that we're going to games in Glendale forever,
it's actually not that far for them either.
It's kind of a midpoint of sorts between where Glendale was and where Scottsdale is.
So you can bring some of the old fans and have some of the new money come in.
We'll see it when we believe it.
But it's a site, which is better than not having a site.
Apparently the coyote is looking to purchase this land and build an arena.
That would keep Phoenix in Phoenix, Arizona, and Phoenix.
We showed you a couple weeks ago, Big Buff.
He's a multi-sport athlete, right?
So he was a hockey player, and now he's a angler.
See, look at this.
Look at that.
Does that not look like Big Buff, the stuff there?
Where the hell is he doing that?
Well, he's in that Pro Fishing League, right?
I know. That looks like nice weather like he's doing.
It looks like he's got a lipper into, yeah.
Life is good.
That's big buff, all right.
Now that looks kind of familiar.
don't you think?
Yeah, he's done this before.
One in each hand.
It's happened more than once.
I think, yeah, look at this.
Like, what a, what a beauty.
That should be you, Red.
God damn it.
Well, yeah, well, if I was six, whatever, seven and whatever.
Or do you mean fishing?
I mean fishing.
I wasn't expecting one in each hand.
No.
You can fish.
That's the thing.
It's like, I can't ask you.
I'll put one in each hand.
There'll be the things behind you.
Yeah, I've done that.
I can do that too.
not as impressive.
Tonight's slate, let's have a look,
a busy one. I think we got like 13 games.
Holy smokes. Moles.
Cains and Flames in there at the end.
Boston, Buffalo at the top.
That's been an interesting rivalry over the years
and some other good ones in there as well.
Jersey will be here on Saturday.
They're in the Pacific Northwest to take on
Seattle. And Red Hot Minnesota has got
the Wild. So those are some other games
of note.
Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Wait, wait.
said red hot Minnesota has the wild i think you meant to the canucks i did mean that thank you yes
the canucks are under 500 in their last 13 after a scalding start to the season in their first 13
i think they're fine it just wasn't going to be uh you know we're going to win the league type of year
and after 13 games i think connect fans were getting very excited uh of those games buffalo
boston this will be on tv in your hood i don't know what your cable situation is if you get
the game if you go to the pub.
We have an e-bug situation already.
The sway dog is not feeling well.
He's been sent home. Oh, no.
Guess who the e-bug is in Boston?
Tim Taylor.
No, nor Tim Thomas either, Rhett.
It's actually going to be Tuka Rask.
Really?
There's Tuka.
Have you ever been, like, everyone kind of wants to see the e-bug in, but
like, there might even be guys on the team. They're like, man,
I love Tukes. Like, shoot a couple of
old Mark's head and warm up let's get
Tuka another game. They're playing Buffalo
should be easy. Oh.
What happened? We were also bullish
on Buffalo. People are not happy. They're too
soft. Soft and no
defense. Puppy poo.
I saw the Jeff Skinner
Advanced Data card the other day and it was
like good at offense. One of the worst
in the league at defending. Like, ooh, that kind of
fits the whole team, doesn't it?
Everyone's good at going north. Not many
guys going south.
No, they're
people are again
the buffaloans are starting
to get a little annoyed with their teams.
Yeah, I would
understand that.
Let us go to
the Thursday nighter. Let's go to the
Jack Cam. We go live to the Jack Cam, Jack, big one
in Pittsburgh, the lowest
over-under since like the early
90s and since some sports books have
ever been around. I believe it's 30
and a half points as you're over under for New England,
Pittsburgh. Awful, awful, and
Thursday night. Jacks, sell this thing.
for us. I'm super excited for this game. I ordered my Mitch Trubisky jersey last night.
Doesn't look like Kenny Pickett's coming back anytime soon. So let's go, Mitch.
The dealer's six points is the spread here, Rhett. That feels too much.
And what is it, Billy Zappy or who is it? Bailey Zappy at the other end. This is not
Trubisky Zappy. That's your primetime game tonight on Amazon's off the border. Pass.
Never know.
It might be some great coaching in that game.
Low expectations maybe is just the best place to start in life with some things.
I think this is one.
Did you hear about this swindler that got like over 20 million bucks out of the Jaguars organization?
This is some high level swindling.
So apparently a former employee named Amit Patel has stolen over $22 million over five years.
There's some sort of credit card thing that he's found a loophole in.
two cars, condominium, designer watch,
crypto, gambling online.
This, uh,
he's not going to work here anymore.
It's a lot of dough.
Way to go, Matt,
omit.
And apparently someone was like,
I was in this guy's Uber the other day.
And it was like,
your driver's name is a Mitt.
And it's like,
your car is a Tesla.
Like, no, it is too.
So the guys living the life,
I guess.
For now,
hard time coming up.
It's good until you get caught.
It's very,
yeah, totally fun.
until, yeah, you have to do the hard time.
Last three for you.
Is there anything more painful as a dad than stepping on a piece of kids Lego?
You've done this.
I've done this.
Those building block things, any sort of that type of deal.
Duplo.
Not good.
You know what's really bad?
The little dinky car things there are no good.
Micro machines.
Airplanes.
Oh.
Right on the soft spot of the foot.
Now, I did find something worse than stepping on Lego.
We got a video.
of it.
It's stepping on Lego when you're coming down the stairs.
So yeah, the only thing
worse to stepping on a piece of Lego is doing it
on the stairs and nearly breaking your spine.
Jeez.
You know that person is in a world of pain.
Yeah, that's not comfy.
That's not fun.
Okay, we go from there to, you've seen this at the
junior games, college football games, the beer snake.
I think they're a...
Yeah.
riders,
Blue Bombers do this as well.
You keep all your empties.
Stack, stack, stack, stack, stack, stack, stack, stack.
And the snake.
Check this out.
I believe this is the Jacksonville Iceman.
No, sorry, it's the Florida Everblades.
Like, we're filling a whole section here.
They're literally marching the rink.
This is incredible work.
They love hockey.
And I'm sure the beer price thing is reasonable as well.
Great snake.
Last one for you.
This is just crazy man.
I don't know how we got this or where it came from,
but this is a crazy human that somehow got on TV.
I'm a nobody.
You understand, and you can't kill a person with nobody.
So why am I afraid?
I'm not afraid.
I'm afraid of the boogeyman.
Who's the boogeyman?
You figure it out.
I'm getting out of here.
I'm going back to Waterloo where the vampires hang out.
And I'm going to wear my sunglasses at.
You know why? Because women show their tits, half-short skirts, and then they feel violated when I look at them.
Why? Because I have sunglasses on and I'm weird.
This goes off for like 90 seconds. I'm from Humberside. I'm sorry if I made a fool of Humberside, but all those people who called me a sleepwalker, I woke up.
Now I'm going back to sleep because I'm going to be committed in an isolation room because I'm,
I'm going to go back to the ministry and allow them to perceive me as I am.
A fuck up!
Hey, Toronto the good.
Look at this square.
It was a shithole when I worked here.
Now it looks like New York, Manhattan.
Where are the bums?
There's no bums here.
Toronto doesn't have bums.
But Waterloo, they're creating bums.
They created me.
Why?
I don't know.
Maybe it's the church.
Talk to the Pope.
He knows everything.
everything. I had it. I'm going to die. How can you die when you're dead? Oh, wait a second.
I'm going to be crucified, right? Oh, no. I'm not going to raise my voice.
Fred, I don't know. I didn't want this to be on the show, but we couldn't not do it.
The problem is it has to, you have to do that, and then the whole show has to be about that.
Like this, and the comments, people give this guy his own TV show.
I love this.
This guy needs some, yeah, that guy does need some help.
It's a car accident.
You can't turn away from it.
That was painful.
Ah, great.
Yeah, it was all the above.
That, my friends, is your pinned report for a good friends at Village Honda.
Be sure to head up to the Northwest Automol and start your automotive adventures there,
adventures there, whether it is a pre-owned vehicle with nearly 100 on site and over 400 in their dealer group,
or new in-stock inventory arriving daily where pricing is MSRP,
our good friends in the Northwest Automol and villagehonda.com,
your dealership for life.
Okay, Christmas, we've got sorted, but we're helping our buddies, Red.
Now, you were in town a week ago, you went to see Justin at Viena Nova.
Sorted, good? Where are we at?
I'm golden.
Okay.
Where am I at?
I'm winning again, finally.
Two years in a row.
I am also in the good books, which I was due for a good bounce here or there.
I was due for some regression to the norm.
I've got some coins in the bank now because, oh, what?
And we went down to Vina Nova last week.
She's all set up for Christmas.
Gonna love it.
And see, this is easy for us.
We've got it done.
But we want to help our guys.
So texting with Justin, here is the deal.
We've got two things happening at Vena Nova just for our Barnburner buddies.
First off, there is a barn burner three stars.
You're not going to find links on the website.
You've got to go exactly where it is.
They're not promoting it anywhere up for this show.
So essentially, what you got to do is go to vinanova.com slash barn burner.
That's it.
venova.com slash barn burner.
And there will be three items there, the three stars, specially priced, amazing Christmas
gift ideas.
If any of these tickle your fancy, go get them.
It's a great price.
Once they're gone, they're gone.
We'll replace them with another.
other three star items. So those will rotate through as we get closer to Christmas. Justin
will say, okay, the necklace is gone. Here's a set of earrings. The earrings are gone. We got a
ring here. We're going to rotate through. Those are some great deals. Now, if it's not exactly
what you're looking for, you know, you know what? My special somebody's a little picky. We've also
got a promo code going on with Vina Nova. Online use promo code barn burner for 15% off.
Anything but the three star items, which are already sale priced, right? 15% off, right?
Christmas time for diamonds.
You kidding me?
The lab-grown diamonds, we already know
are an incredible deal.
15% off.
Or go in store.
Barn burner.
15% just like that.
How good is that?
Barn burner.
Someone might hear me out of barn burner.
15%.
Boom.
Second floor in Stephen Avenue place
just I believe would be 8th Avenue,
Stephen Avenue.
I think it's what? Second Street.
Southeast. I'm correct.
Close.
Anyway, we're set up. We're happy.
We can't wait to help some of you guys out. Last year,
Justin was great. We had the Barnburner promo code going and he did some delivery in town.
Another great Christmas deal. How many days left, Rhett? Do the math.
20.
Three weeks. Less than three weeks. 18 days.
18?
Get your shirt together, fellas.
So those are your Viena Nova deals.
We'll keep revisiting the three stars.
they rotate through.
Go in, say hello, or head to the website to check them out.
Get it off your plate.
The later this gets, the more dire it gets.
We know that.
Like, how much better do you feel knowing that that purchase is done?
No pressure.
Perfect.
No pressure.
Okay.
We have special guests coming in.
We're going to take a short break, get set up in studio.
Don't go anywhere.
When we come back, we will be chatting with at least three of the,
Sutter brothers, the greatest
hockey family of all time
in studio and out of studio. We'll put it all together,
tell some stories, and explain how this all ties
in with our beer when we come back on Barber.
We are back
and there's Rett's in Buffalo. I'm still in Mardalib.
Look at our special guests, Retro.
Ret, look at this. Hockey royalty.
How could you trade me to...
Dwayne, how could you trade me to Buffalo?
What the hell's wrong?
with you? Well, I knew you were going to go there and meet your wife. See? Now, is that a thank you,
Red, or what do we say about that? Thanks a lot. Yeah. I don't think coaches trade players,
especially assistant coaches. We sat down and Duane said, I had to deal with Rhett the rookie. So I think
that's probably a good place to start. Duane, welcome to the studio. Why don't you tell us about
our young, good-looking friend in Buffalo as an 18-year-old in the NHL? He came in and
Wasn't very happy to
couldn't work his way into the lineup
for whatever reason, probably because of the coaching.
But, and then I believe
we let him go to play in the world junior, didn't you,
Rhett? Yeah, I played
10 of the first 11 games, and then I hardly played it all,
and then I went to World Juniors, yeah.
And then come back, and it was
onward and upward.
Just a cup final there in your first year,
right? No big deal, right?
It helped that Gordon Murphy broke his
Toe about two weeks to go on the season.
That was my inn to kind of get a chance.
Don't remember that.
That's good.
So I guess the men that need no introduction, we'll get an introduction.
It's Dwayne Sutter in the nice buttoned up collar shirt.
Ron Sutter wearing the gear, the origin gear.
Fellas, what are you doing with origin gear?
This is kind of cool.
We've got, Red's got, you've got, are we all the same team here?
God, you thought it was a business meeting today, but he didn't realize that we're actually doing a podcast.
Well, it can be both.
Now, pull that mic a little closer to you're on.
If you don't mind, the microphone, just a little closer.
There we are.
So this is the beauty of our pals at Origin, right?
We were out there, I believe, what was it, two Tuesdays ago for our beer launch.
We've got the Barnburner blonde, which has just been getting wonderful reviews.
People are loving it, enjoying the beer.
But we're not the only bright people partnering up with people that make really good beer.
And Sterling and Mark, you hear from Origin.
Red, I want you to feast your eyes on this.
This is the six-sutter.
shooters. Hell of a label, hell of a beer, and they have partnered with Origin to make
what origin's good at, great beer. So fellas, tell us how you got wound up with the fellas
in Strathmore and to make it your own beer. We thought it was a good idea, and great minds,
apparently think alike here. It was a fellow that was sales hops out of Innesville hooked us up
with the Sterling family and we went out for a visit and realized we have a lot in common,
five-generation farming and want to help out the rural areas.
And basically, we have so much in common that we arrived at a beer that satisfied everybody.
And we're really, really happy that it's out today.
Love it.
Ronnie, have you tried the beer yet?
Are you excited about this?
He shotguned it.
I definitely give it a good belt back.
No, it's a claim, clear, crisp, really nice finish to it.
We did go out there last Tuesday for the last Tuesday.
Friday.
Friday, Friday wrote the last Friday.
You have enough of these.
You'll forget what day of the weekend.
Well, you know when you're retired.
You didn't get home until Tuesday.
When you're semi-retired, now, like I told my wife yesterday,
I said, every day is the same day.
So I don't even know what day it is.
It has a Y at the end and we're having delicious beer.
So we wrote the last Friday for the cany of it and to watch it get all done with the production.
It's quite the process and simple process, but there's a lot of work.
I know it goes in behind the scenes to finish a beer the way you want it.
And these guys have done an awesome job with it.
It's a lager.
It's delicious.
This is, I think, the best way to get people into craft beer.
If you've only had macros and big brand beers, you're like, wow, this.
is actually better and amazing and then you can sort of expand into the micro universe but uh i'm excited
to try it i know people are quite impressed with it thus far sterling everyone's very happy we were
thrilled with the blonde that we've got and uh oh look at this we got another visitor here it's it's
another sutter so we have we have ron and duane studio and now rich checking in from uh the windy
city lethbridge alberta ritchie how are you good i've just been sitting here listening to you guys
so all's good have you have you got a shipment yes do you do you do you
you have a garage full of six-sutter shooters beer.
Actually, I called Mark Hamilton yesterday looking for it.
Okay.
Checks in the mail, right, Mark?
Now, listen, you don't mind, Rich, if we just leave a few flats here
and we'll hold it in studio for you, show up whenever you want.
Perfect.
I don't know how many it'll be, but you'll take the empties back.
Yeah, you'll at least have the deposit from the empties,
that a minimum.
That'll work.
Fellas, this beer is not only a great beer,
but there's a reason behind it.
You guys and your four other brothers
that aren't here at the moment,
quite a number,
you've been writing the Sutter Fund
for a long time.
I know the annual golf tournament
was a big deal.
We used to come up and do shows
from there at the old shop.
And, you know,
you guys saw a need in Central Alberta
where people needed help.
You guys had the ability
to raise some funds
and next thing you know,
you'd built your own charitable cause.
Tell us how the beer's involved
with that, Duane.
Well, it goes,
the fund goes back over 24.
five years and started Lethbridge Red Year Viking tournament golf tournaments to raise money.
We moved it to Redger eventually.
And over 25 years, we've raised well over $2 million to donate to smaller charities around
Central and Alberta, whoever came to us and and wrote a letter to ask what they wanted
for and all that.
So it also goes back to the grass group open and trying to give to smaller communities
and maybe not as often to the bigger charities like who do get a lot more help than the smaller ones.
So sort of it was there's a bit of a gap in people getting helped.
And so if there was associations or groups or parties that needed help,
there was the Sutter Fund to help them if they'd maybe slipped through the cracks,
so to speak, in terms of getting some funding.
Exactly.
And now through the sales here and the origin, people can speak more on it.
But a percentage of each six-pack will be donated back to the Sutter Fund.
Okay. So here it is.
If you want to get your paws on the beer, we'll get the official technical stuff through it so that all the info is out there.
We can make sure that everyone can enjoy the beer, but also help get some money raised to the Sutter Fund.
The official launch of the six Sutter Shooter Lager, it is a 10% discount online.
That's originbrewing.ca.
Head there.
Promal code runs till December 15th at midnight fellows.
So that means get online.
I mean, if you wanted to partner up a four pack of tall blondes
with a six pack of the six Sutter shooters,
that's a hell of a gift for someone under the tree.
I'll tell you that.
It's a big stocking stuff.
I love that.
The beers, as noted, the regular size can of 355 is not the tall boys.
So six packs and a portion of proceeds from every six pack
will go toward the Sutter Benevolent Fund,
helping raise money for local community initiatives.
If you want to be one of the first to get your pause on this beer,
let's do it.
Head to origin brewing.ca.
Click shop in the top left corner,
and they're going to do local delivery for only five bucks.
Every Thursday, if your orders 50 bucks or more,
within 50 kilometers of Calgary and surrounding area,
you can get your beer delivered right to you on Thursday.
I love it.
Origin offers national international shipping as well.
If you're far away and you're like,
I want this on my mantle for a decade,
this is a collector's item.
You're probably right.
They can do that as well too.
And of course,
if you're in Strathmore,
Sterling,
you've got to stop in and say hello
and grab some of the beer there.
So I'm excited.
We're raising funds.
It's great beer.
It's our pals at origin.
We want our guys to get it.
But we got you in studio.
We need some stories.
I'm going to show you a photo and I want you each to react.
We'll start with oldest to the youngest.
So Dwayne and then you twins will have to sort out who's older out of you.
I don't know.
But there's the picture.
This was two nights ago, I believe in Vancouver.
Luke, Jack, and Quinn Hughes.
Three kids, same family, brothers, same game.
What comes to mind for you, Dwayne?
Four of us, twins in Philadelphia, Brent and I with the Allender's playing head-to-head.
Okay.
So do you remember what year and how that went?
I imagine there would have been some build-up to that.
And did you get a photo at Center Ice?
Did it just sort of fly under the radar?
We got a dressing room photo.
Obviously, we met in between.
I didn't go in the flyer.
They didn't come into ours.
Sure.
The twins might know the dates and the outcome of the game better.
I think it would have been in fall time.
It's got to be our first year, so probably 1985.
Okay.
And I'm thinking it's got to be October or November at the spectrum.
And I believe the islanders spanked us at night five, two, or something like.
that.
Ritchie,
do you remember that one?
October of 82, Ronnie.
October of 82.
Okay.
But yeah, no, I remember it.
Someone,
I remember someone asking,
you know,
if you guys wanted to do a pitcher on the ice,
and with the Islanders and Flyers rivalry,
and how well we were getting along at that time,
we knew that that wasn't not an option.
Because we knew we'd have,
at that point,
34 teammates pissed off at us.
So I was just thinking, I know your older brothers as coaches would have viewed a center ice photograph before the game.
I don't, Ronnie, I don't know that would have gone over well with Brian or Daryl if they were the good at.
We actually had one.
We actually had one, you know, a few years later when I was playing in St. Louis.
And Ronnie will remember this one because it's on hockey cards.
I don't know if it was a peach or whatever it was, but it was between morning skates and Ryan and I had no problem to him.
But grumpy Brian, hey, he was out on the ice and get this.
Saffin pitcher over us and Ronnie, you can get off the ice.
You know, so that's kind of how we knew that was going to go.
So we knew it was going to work with the Flyers and Islanders.
You sure it was 82.
Were we not playing junior in 82?
You guys.
With the Broncos?
It was the early 80s.
Let's get along here.
These twins are fight.
I got twins at home.
I've seen this act.
First year pro.
So that's amazing.
Now, okay, I did a little math here for 24 years in a row in the NH.
there was a Sutter brother playing in the NHL, 24 consecutive years from 1976 to 2001, 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000.
That's four decades of coverage.
Approaching 5,000 collective games, just your brothers, never mind your kids.
And you've all got great hockey playing kids.
The next generation's got some hockey players as well.
And I just wonder, did you take it for granted at the time?
did you always know it was something special because it's uncharted it'll never happen again it is
absolutely a one-off thing probably for any pro sport i don't think we took it for granted knowing that
every year there was younger guys coming in trying to knock you out of a job so i don't think we
ever took it for granted uh we certainly enjoyed the ride and and uh we had all had success in her own
way yeah i don't think it really i never really hit hit me until i think towards end of the
playing careers of the older brothers when
Brian got banged up pretty bad and then Darrell had a bad injury and
then you realize geez you know those those guys may not play much longer so
I think that's the first time it hit me and I think the first time
when we played against Brent and Dwayne on the uh with the Islanders and the fires
are I never really noticed I remember it was like partway through the shift and it was
towards the end of a shift and I realized holy shit I'm out in the ice with two of my
brothers through my brothers against two of them so at the same time so it was
pretty cool. For a few seconds, it felt a little bit surreal. But I think after you did that a few
times, it just wore off. Is Gary's the older brother? Is that right? I forgot the name right.
Yes. I think it's been said that he was a great hockey player as well, but he didn't have the
older brother to follow in the footsteps. Am I right or did I get the order wrong? No, he was a good player,
probably a little scrappier than the rest of us. And he played defense quite a bit.
So he was the only one that was at that position.
Okay.
So the only D man.
Lots of ice available on the old Viking Farmers can play D.
Two right-wingers, two centers, two left-leaders.
Wow.
Unreal.
They know what they say about the centers on hockey.
They're like the quarterbacks on a football team.
They're not the smartest, so are they, Richard?
No, they're like the QBs on a real good football team.
Why can I guess what position Ron plays?
Why don't I think I know what he played?
So tell me about the fund, guys.
How often do you get together?
How do you come to decisions about distributing the money
and how good does it feel to give back to these communities
and causes that might not otherwise get the financial attention
that the Sutter Benevolent Fund can give it?
Good, Rich.
Oh, you guys answer that better than I would, tell you the truth.
Well, I think it's kind of a collaboration.
And, you know, at least we try to make it a collaboration
determining who and where it goes.
You receive so many letters.
numerous phone calls, you know, it's probably more so now than in the past.
Everyone's always looking for some help.
So I think the big thing is at the end of the day, you know, we really look at see it.
You look at the small communities, you look at family oriented, kids related,
whether it's from registrations or uniforms or equipment, just providing to the kids who really
can't afford to do it.
And for families, you can't afford to do it.
And at the day, Brent and Brian have always made that final decision,
but it's always been discussed.
And it always goes to a well-needed and worthy cause.
What's Christmas like now?
Because you would probably be, some of the brothers would be grandparents by now.
Your kids are probably a lot of them,
would be in their 20s and 30s.
You guys, obviously, are still all brothers.
You've got your own significant careers and job interests
and little entrepreneurial things here and there.
You got Richie joining us from Lethbridge,
which was obviously a bit of a contingent in Edmonton and here in Calgary as well.
Do you all find time to get together?
Is it almost too complicated now because there's probably like 50 of you,
we include all your offspring?
It's more complicated and average just because we're so spread out.
Yeah.
The dynamic of having us all back in Alberta is cool.
But at the same time with their family's growing,
your own kids,
everyone's got grandkids except for myself.
So we are spread out all over and our kids are,
you know,
their own shit going on, their own gigs going on in different parts of the province,
different parts of the country.
So it seems like now the coolest time, the best time we get together is usually only
for weddings or funerals.
Yeah.
No, that's the thing.
Yeah.
That's, that's the reality of it.
That's growing up, I think.
You notice that.
It's like the only time we all get together, gosh, like someone's either got to get
married or die here.
And I'm cheering for one more than the other.
Yeah.
So, yeah.
So it's cool.
It is a lot of fun when we get together.
And all that's so cool about it, Ryan.
is that, like, our son Riley is the youngest of all the kids,
and then Brian's son, Sean's the oldest.
And they are all tight.
Yeah.
Like, I know they know more what's going on
and everyone, their own worlds and probably our roles than we do in there.
So it's pretty cool that they all still stay in touch,
or at least a lot of them still do,
whether it's, you know, social media days,
allowed them to do that.
So I do know, like, I can share something with Riley.
And he'll go, oh, geez, I knew that.
that so talking to the cousins come on dad i knew that yeah so it's pretty cool they're pretty tight
they have a cousins chat i love it a chat group you know how how do you not yeah i for i don't know
how it happened well for somehow i got on that and i was the only one of all the so it was the
cousins and one uncle and they allowed me to be on it for a while and then i think some stuff started
going down like they couldn't share with me so i know one of my nephews said okay you're done
you're off.
Lost privileges.
That's cool.
Rich,
does that make you proud?
The next generation
feels like the glue right now
that they're tighter than ever
are really keeping you guys tighten away.
I think it's important and it
makes us proud
to know that the kids get along
and at least try and reach out
and be there for each other in some way,
shape or form.
I think it's important that
I mean,
that's what we were like.
And today's world,
it's obviously can be easier with social media,
but a lot of ways it can also be harder
because everyone's got so much stuff going on.
But they've done their best at it,
and I'm proud of what they've been able to do.
And I think it's important,
I wouldn't say carry it on from what we've done.
But it's just nice to see that they care about each other.
They love each other.
They know they can be there for each other.
It's hard because they have all got little ones now,
and it's not like you're always able to get together and see each other.
But they do make a point at times,
which I think is very awesome.
and it's great for us to see that that is happening.
So we have three together today.
That's a pretty good success rate.
Are we going to get like five, six, seven at a time somewhere in Strathmore?
I feel like you said there's the weddings, the funerals, but what about like a beer launch?
I feel like we got a good chance if we got a Sutter beer going to get more than half the brothers in the same room.
We should have a good chance to do that.
It was a poor day for Brian, his annual cattle sales tomorrow.
Okay.
And Saturday, so that wasn't working for him.
And Daryl would have came down probably if Brett's injured right now, his son's injured.
Okay.
And he's been checking out some of the games.
I know people have been saying, oh, Daryl's checking out the Wranglers.
He's always loved watching his son, Paul, even though he traded him earlier.
Yeah.
And Brent was in some Western League meetings.
Busy.
Busy.
Yeah, I love it.
Okay.
Guys, do you want to crack a beer and give it a sip?
Is it a work day?
Are we allowed to do this?
I feel like it's noon somewhere.
It's a cocktail hour somewhere.
I take go for it.
Yeah, I think let's do it here.
We're about the lads over here.
The Lats are you going to hold.
Mark can handle those.
Where are we going with this?
Just look in the camera and have a sip there.
We'll give this you a little.
Anyway, I'm sure we're allowed to do this.
It's you too.
We're making up the rules as we go.
That's a heck of a beer right there.
Wow.
Cheers.
Thanks for coming in, fellas.
Congrats on the beer.
One more time.
If you want to try the six Sutter Shooters Lager from
origin brewing. You can head out to the easiest thing go to the tap room if you're in Strathmore,
but that's not necessarily where everyone's at. You might be in Calgary, you might be out of town.
Go to the website, origin brewing.c.a with the promo code, Sutter 6, 10% off right through midnight on
December 15th. A hell of a gift to put under the Christmas tree. You like that, Ronnie?
Well, you know what it is? It starts at Sterling's damn barley. If that damn barley wasn't so good,
they wouldn't have to malt. And if that damn malt wasn't so good, they wouldn't have had to start a brewery.
Grassroots.
See what you've done here?
It's great inputs.
I mean, from the farm right to your glass.
I love it.
Great stuff.
Again, that promo code is Sutter 6.
No hashtag.
Just fire that in.
That's good for 10% off.
Sterling,
I imagine you can mix a match with some other beers on that promo code as well.
So you can get some barn burner blondes,
homegrown logger,
whatever is you like,
add that to your delivery.
And Thursdays, the delivery goes out.
$5,000, anywhere within $50K of Calgary,
if it's $50 or more.
Brewing.C.
Hit the shop button.
Top left corner.
Good beer, good people.
And this one supporting the great charity
that is the Sutter Benevolent Fund.
Gentlemen, thank you for being here.
Richie, great to see you.
Next time you're up in Calgary,
we've got to cheers one of these together.
Your lunch and a beer for sure, Ryan.
I love it.
Thanks for joining us.
Awesome.
Duane, thanks for being here.
Ronnie, great to see you as always.
We'll take a short break.
We'll be back with the rest of the show.
Would you look at us,
hey, Rhett?
Just a couple of idiots
that somehow we got tied in with a great brewery in Strathmore,
and now we got, you know, like, what,
40-some percent of the Sutter brothers on the show?
This is kind of fun.
What do you remember about Dwayne as a rookie?
Oh, he was pretty good to me.
I think probably because of the upbringing small town kind of stuff,
Western Canada, not sure.
He treats everyone great, but he looked out for,
I remember the one thing I do remember,
two things.
He gave me shit.
one day for getting complacent.
Yeah. In practice,
you're here to get better.
And so I slashed
Billy Lindsay and then cross-checked him
and made sure I wasn't complacent
that day. And the other thing was
message received.
And then the other thing was
we went to the finals and during the playoffs, he's like,
you know,
you should take almost have a journal
of this because
it doesn't always happen. And
you're a rookie and you're like, what do you mean?
It doesn't always happen.
Of course it always happens.
We're awesome.
We're doing this every year, right?
Uh-oh.
And I didn't, of course.
I did not take that advice and I do regret it because for all the things you do in your career
and all the fun you have, I think probably you remember 10%.
Yeah.
I think that's why guys love getting back together so much, Rhett, because that brings out the stories.
And you're like, oh, shit, I do remember that.
Like, I watch when, when Noodles is back.
And like, I remember Jerome Knight.
There was a bunch of you having beers.
And it's just like everyone is ear to ear because it brings back all those memories.
And I'm thinking about March when Mika's night is here.
That's going to be an incredible night for your crew.
And it might be the last time that, you know, 20 of that 04 crew get back together,
whatever the number will be.
Like those are the best because you're right.
You just don't think about it.
You lose some things.
But a little story and boom, it's back.
Yeah.
And that's, and that's the reason I wish I really wished I had taken notes,
journal whatever it is but you didn't so anyway it's so fun like even when they were on it was like
this feels like we need more of a three hour yes we did in the summer it bullshit hot stove with these
guys than than a 15 minute chat yeah and you know what it's it sucks it's a busy time a year
but i'm glad we got them on and i want people to try the beer one more time it's origin brewing
dot ca you're going to want to use the promo code sutter six you know how to spell
Sutter. It's two T's. You know where the number six is on your keyboard. It's right above the
T. Here we go. Sutter 6. No hashtags, no nothing. 10% off until December 15. That's a week and
change of getting an order in. Look at that. There's Mike already. Said I've already got the
stocking stuffer ordered. Love it. Good. There's the website. There's the beer. Great can.
Cool. Yeah. Yeah. You pair that with some burn burner blonde and you got a happy uncle
dad brother. I'm going to suggest that as a move. Okay, a couple items to get to. I feel,
I feel bad that we haven't given this more time. We launched our Christmas charity yesterday.
We are so busy. We had the Sutter's in, which was an incredible thing. We wanted to talk about
their beer, their great charity. We've got more auction items arriving every day for our Christmas
charity, the Top Shelf Elf. It is year two. It is brought you by our good pals at McLeod Law,
Shane King, Peter Klein, that whole crew, whether it's personal injury, whether it's employment law, call our guys at McLeod.
They're going to take care of you.
They're our presenting sponsor of the auction.
Already lots of bids coming in.
Thanks, guys, for doing that.
A reminder, just head to nationgear.ca to check the auction items.
We've got till the end of next week.
We're going to spend some more time over the next few days talking about some of the auction items and where the numbers are at because there's some incredible once-in-a-lifetime type stuff.
that you're going to want to at least see the price on.
You might not win the bid, but you'll know where it's at.
And I'm excited, McLeod, I just put a package together
that we'll announce tomorrow on the show
that you're going to love for hockey fans in Calgary.
Tonight's slate, we go to what's on the menu for DoorDash.
Our buddies get 25% off their first order
and free delivery on the DoorDash app.
All you got to do is put in the promo code, Nation 25 on your first order.
of over $15.
It's not just meals with DoorDash Retro.
It could be a bathroom deodorant.
It could be a plunger.
It could be toilet paper.
I don't know what I'm talking about all those things.
Jack, have you been to our washer lately?
DoorDash has got it all sorted out.
You can also do multiple pickups for one delivery.
It's called Double Dash.
Check it out.
Get the app.
And again, promo code Nation 25 for a deal on us.
The menu tonight, Red, Thursday nighter.
Jack is just absolutely frothing over there.
Patriots, Steelers, in Pittsburgh, people that shouldn't be starting at quarterback, starting at quarterback, prime time, Thursday, lowest over under in 30 years, go get it.
That's at 615.
It is the Steelers' favorite by 6.
And of course, the canes and flames, that huge blockbuster deal that Trillivin pulled off early in his reign.
It was Furland, Fox, and Hamilton to Carolina.
coming back the other way, Lindholm and Hannafin.
We might be sitting here in July Rett,
and no one has a player from that trade left.
Carolina has already empty shelves.
Hannafin and Lindholm UFAs this summer.
Interesting.
7 o'clock buck drop tonight.
Carolina slight favorites, minus 125.
Flames at plus 105.
They get Carolina third game in four nights.
That's what's on the menu.
What are you ordering on DoorDash if you've got this doubleheader set up?
I think I'm going sushi tonight.
I haven't had it in a while.
Got a craving.
You've got a gift for this, Rhett.
It's never off.
It always hits the market.
I'm always like, yes, that is, that's exactly a great move.
So good on you for that.
That way bets, I am going to focus on a pretty special game tonight.
We talked about it in the Pinder report.
You can find this one on the Betway app, 19 plus Ontario only.
Patty Kane is back.
88 is back.
is back.
Did you hear about
someone else
were 88 in Detroit
and gave the number up?
It was a short conversation.
Yeah, probably maybe
the best American player
ever born.
Wasn't a decision.
That's Pat's number.
Here's your number.
I'm going with two points
or more for Patty Kane.
Wow.
It's 220.
That's a debut.
Now, they're playing the sharks.
Sharks.
It's at home.
I don't know that if this is the Rangers,
it's, but Detroit's doing some things.
The Sharks are the Sharks.
this could be a blowout.
And if Kane's getting points,
who's on his opposite wing
that he knows from Chicago?
It's the cat.
It's the cat.
Alex De Brinkett,
who knows how to fill the net,
plus 140 for an anytime goal.
I'm staying away from this Calgary Carolina game.
I don't know what to expect.
Could Wolf be great?
Yes.
Could Carolina be tired?
Yes.
Could Carolina be grumpy and ornery
and come out and play the best game of the year?
Yes.
I don't know what to expect in Calgary.
I'm going everything in Detroit here.
It's the third game in,
four nights for Carolina,
but they didn't play last night,
according to their coach.
So it's really not.
That would be a hell of a statement from Brindamore.
Well, fellas,
since we've had two days off without a game,
you better be going tonight.
No, no, coach,
we were at that new rink in evidence.
You were not playing hockey.
You were going through the motions.
You had your equipment on,
but you didn't really play.
Tank should be full, fellas.
Those are my bets for the day.
After Burner tonight, it'll be Cammy and I, Rhett.
She's been doing a great job.
I've been really impressed with her ability to jump in on the fly
and deal with a bunch of knuckleheads and talk about the flames.
Much better than you are.
Again, it's a long list, not a short one.
And I'm trying to get you and Cammy on the Saturday game.
How am I doing on that front?
Can I publicly twist your arm on that?
one. No, you could say whatever you want, but I'll probably do it.
Shout up, boy. Love you. Awesome.
I won't be good stuff. I got a U-9 hockey team. I'm babysitting it for the two o'clock
puck drop against New Jersey, which should be a ton of fun.
Speaking of Afterburners, next week we'll be at the Grey Eagle. I believe Wednesday is
the 16th or is it Thursday the 16th? My math is completely the 14th, isn't it?
It's one of those. It's next week. I think 16th is
Thursday to 14th is a 6 o'clock puck drop from Minnesota.
Boom and I'll be at the Grey Eagle.
We'll be on the stage bar doing Afterburner following the show.
We do one Afterburner a month at the Grey Eagle.
Drinking Food Specials for Happy Hour, 2 till 5 every day.
And yeah, always something happening down at the Grey Eagle Casino.
We'll see you there for the Rodey.
Three games and Four nights for the Flames next week.
It is the second to last home game of the six-game homestand.
I believe a season long six-game homestand.
Jersey on Saturday, the final one, before it's Colorado, Vegas, Minnesota.
That's a tough.
That's a tough little roadie there.
Old Gauntlet run.
So we'll see you at the Griegel for that one.
Tonight, After Burner Live here from our Marta Loop Studios.
It'll be Wolf.
Are you happy it's Wolf?
Are you thinking, you know what, this would be a better redemption spot for Vladar?
I don't want to see Wolf against Angelo.
Don't care.
Don't care.
Don't care.
I really don't.
I mean, and I don't care because I think you will see them both.
So if it's Wolf tonight, great.
Vladar, get ready for your next one, be better.
Wolf, stand on your head.
Even if, and even if you don't, doesn't matter.
There is a huge opportunity.
It's a no-lose situation.
Yeah, there's a big opportunity here, right,
and it's not for one of the goalies.
It's for both.
Like, if we're being honest, we don't know how long Markstrom's gone.
Maybe it's just seven days.
Maybe it's 14 to 21.
It's week-to-week was the diagnosis, but,
if somebody wants to get red hot here and make a name for themselves and earn tens of millions
of dollars, by all means, go.
Either it.
Yes.
And if it's one of the two, I don't think anyone's going to care which one.
Give us some clarity on what you are, both of them.
Yeah, it's either a star in the making or we can trade this guy.
Both of those things are good.
Or we can trade the injured guy when he's healthy.
That's a hell of an outcome too.
And all of it, yes.
Clarity on the goaltending situation is what you're praying for with this, what's
going on. Indeed. Okay, 7 o'clock, Carolina, Calgary, from the dome. Calgary dogs at home.
Hmm. Okay. Anything else you want to touch? I know you're a busy man today. Tomorrow we know.
I mean, I'm single parenting this weekend, so I got lots to deal with. Where's the shovel? She's not been texting me. I mean, I don't know what she's doing this weekend.
South Bend. Oh, she's making the trip to Notre Dame.
I wonder if she was looking at flights to Calgary to Chicago for me.
Yeah, it's easy.
Is that the place to fly into Chicago?
I think you go ahead and that's probably the only direct that would get you close and then
what you do from there, whether it's a pond hopper or a bus, I don't know.
I think it's not too far.
I don't know if you need to fly from Chicago.
I met Ron, who was across the room moments ago.
When I was working in Abbott's for the heat, he was doing player development for the flame.
So he would come down every few weeks or so.
meet with the kids, you know, go have a lunch, come out on the ice for practice, work with the
young prospects in the organization. He would understand the direct flight to Chicago and then a
bus to Milwaukee or a bus to Rockford or a bus to Peoria. That was a tough travel for those players
back then. He also got to travel in my Volkswagen Gulf that collected water at the passenger
side right by the feet. And it was dry for the two days before Ronnie arrived and I had to give him a ride
to the team hotel.
It could have been really ugly.
It was a fairly passable situation.
Mold, stink, garbage,
but there wasn't water up to his ankle.
So we called it a win.
That's a really good thing.
Yeah.
Very impressive.
This young loudmouth pinder,
he's got a nice suit.
What the hell car is this?
Shitbox.
We'll see you tomorrow,
Rett.
Have fun watching the game tonight.
Enjoy the sushi.
It's a good call.
It is going to be delicious.
This show is sponsored by BetterHelp.
I want to tell you, if you're thinking about online therapy,
give it a try, betterhelp.com slash Flames Nation,
and you'll be getting on your way to being your best self.
Holiday season's coming up.
It's busy.
It is often complicated as well.
It can be a lot of fun, but it can be a lot of stress.
We're always thinking about getting gifts for,
I've got the brother, mom, dad, kids.
What about what are we doing under the tree here?
What about this person?
You know, who we're forgetting about is yourself.
What are you doing for yourself this holiday season?
Maybe online therapy is a gift you can give yourself to make it a little bit less stressful this time of year.
And I think as guys, we're getting a little more open to talking about mental health issues and understanding that maybe it's okay to not be perfect and 100% all the time.
And maybe we can work with professionals using online therapy to build some tools and techniques to help deal with situations that do arise that give you stress or maybe become challenges for you.
you. Why is BetterHelp such a great tool? Well, it's entirely online, which means it's flexible.
You don't need to get to allocation. You can work the timing around what time of day works for you.
You don't have to leave work in the middle of the day and hustle through traffic. It's,
you know what? What about this day at this time? I'm going to be at home. I'm not working. No one will be
in the house. I'll go to that happy room. I love to go. We'll talk about some stuff. And you can build
some techniques and coping skills to help you become the best version of yourself. The other thing that's
great about BetterHelp. You're going to fill out a questionnaire when you get to the website.
That'll help them pair you with a therapist that has areas of expertise and strength and the
issues you're dealing with and maybe creating techniques and coping mechanisms that fit what you're
dealing with. Make your brain, your friend with better help. Visit betterhelp.com slash flames nation.
Do that today. You'll get 10% off your first month. Love it. That's BetterHelp, help.com slash
flames nation. Have fun tonight.
James K.
Hey, I love it.
Look at that.
Who did this?
RJ just cooked this up and asleep, so we had to show it off on the show.
That honestly, put that on a black t-shirt.
That's unreal.
I'm buying, like, put those on right now.
Put them on nationgear.com.
You know that like, sort of like, that's a vibe of a shirt?
Can you explain this?
Like, what would you call it, like a graphic t-shirt?
Like, if you get that and fade the edges out a bit, like, that's, people will wear that shirt.
I don't know if we're allowed to do that, but yes, we should.
I mean, it could be any goalie, right?
That's probably someone in men's leg.
I don't know what you're talking about.
And that could be any animal.
It just happens to be a wolf.
Yeah, that's the guy with 20 minutes.
Fish and wolves.
Good luck to that animal.
Whatever player that is, good luck to him tonight as well.
I don't know if it's a full moon or not,
but we'll see if the flames can pull off an upset on home ice tonight.
Cammy and I love Afterburner tonight shortly following the contest.
Get the beer, origin brewing.ca.
Make it a great Christmas present for the fellows in your life.
And if you've got a special lady in your life,
it's probably time to go to Vina Nova and check out that three stars promo
or just use that Barn Burner promo code on the website.
Bodies, we can't do it without you.
Thanks so much.
See you tonight and see you tomorrow.
