then you need a guy like Peter Klein on board. He'll get you the disability benefits that you paid for and you deserve. But you know what we can do right now for McLeod law. It's a little kind of a legal thing. Flames played last night, big game, six three win. Time for our opening statements for McLeod law. So are we, I guess, question number one, are we happy with this victory?

At what point when? Because we're going to have to pick a horse at some point. We want wins or we want losses. And the wins are good or the wins are bad or something. Because we're at the halfway point now. What are we doing here as far as being happy or you guys? I'm not happy.

I'm happy. I don't have to bitch about the team not competing, but I'm not happy about garnering more points. It's a delicate tight wire. It's not delicate. I don't want points. I want a top. I get that easy a top five preferably where I don't want to I'm not walking a tight rope this is what I want

yeah I agree uh from our perspective it's very easy it's much harder in the organization because you cannot allow losing culture to seep in and I love how hard they've worked um but yeah I mean this is about something they haven't been able to do in a decade and that's get a high pick and find a number one center and a franchise player they don't have a franchise player the only guy they got is marks you we're building a case to get him out of here he's so valuable well and i thought about this because we talked about it last night i'm getting more and more convinced i need to know what wolf is yeah at this level because i don't give a shit if the wranglers i mean i was going to say because i saw i pitch the shutout or whatever the other night and it's that's well and good yeah we're

happy that you're doing well in the a but because it's like i said it to pinder last night i said if Wolf is what he's supposed to be, you're halfway to fixing your problems on this rebuild, redo, whatever the hell you want to call it. There's a common thread with all these rebuilds that take over a decade. They never get a goalie.

The goaltender is the soft spot. So if your goaltending hole is filled already, this rebuild is, you're back in business a lot faster. Look at Edmonton, look at Ottawa, look at Buffalo. They've struggled for net mining and it prolongs this thing. If he's going to be an ace, that changes everything.

And if he's going to be the typical trajectory, which is it takes a while to find your footing in the league, you got to back up for a while, then you step into the starters roll five years later. Well, then it doesn't. And even the guy doesn't have to, you don't have to be putting him in the rafters at the end of his career.

Can you give solid goaltending? Can you, can you not post your team wins? But it's hard to do for young players, right? We rarely see it. Like Spencer Knight was the same draft class. He came to the NHL, way sooner. He gone. And he might be all right.

And same with Carter Hart might be all right. We've been talking about it for six, seven years. And Devin Levi might be all right. But he's up and down. You need to find out. And I'm like, now, I want him to play every, and it'll be,

it's impossible to do because they'll never do it because Markstrom's playing too well. But you need to play Wolf for a month straight and find out what he is. Can I trade Markstrom or not? Yeah. It's, Kent Wilson wrote a piece in the Herald today that basically says

this is the best time to trade Jacob Markstrom, period. And it's like, when has he played better and when have there been more contenders that are desperate for a goalie? It's Carolina, it's Jersey, it's Toronto, maybe it's L.A. who've blown a couple leads their last two games and lost. Why can't he play good next year and trade him again then?

Well, why didn't he play well last year? I don't know. You know he's good right now. That's what you know. You don't know what he is next year. I think the point is a good one because, and I think we talked about it with noodles or whoever it was with Drex. You're getting potentially three playoff runs with this guy. And if the flames are going to eat money, which I do believe that they would for the right deal.

And his play is, it's as good as we've seen him. And you're right. So yeah, could it be the same next year? It could. But in terms of to this point and where this team is where we think they're headed, he's far more valuable than Lindholm or Hannafen or any of them. My caution to that is, well, it's because I'm close to it because here in Buffalo, they didn't get a legit goaltender and they tried to hand it off to the young kid and they're not ready yet.

So I'll give you a solution. Trademarks from for the pile of coins. Go sign a veteran goaltender to a one-year deal next year if that helps you sleep better and just cut your loss with the letter. Make them play in the A if he wants to. I'm fine with it. And I'm fine with it. And if you're committing to stuff, but again, if Wolf doesn't turn into,

Wolf is the deciding factor in all of this. This is a long opening statement. But Wolf, to me, is the deciding factor in all of this. Because if Wolf is not what we were expecting, and we dump Markstrom and we go with all these picks and young kids, you can be real good. Ottawa is a great example. Lots of talented kids, this,

that. If your goaltender is no good, you're going to struggle. So what are, what are expectations? What's fair to expect from Dustin Wolf? If he, let's say he comes up at the deadline and plays for a month. What's a reasonable expectation? I don't, what do you mean? As far as wins, losses, numbers. Well, you just said if he is what we expect him to be. And I think that's, that's a great question. I think you expect them to be plus 900, save percentage. To be able to make more, wow, he saved a goal, then like, ooh, that shouldn't go in. one to outweigh the other, right?

Yeah, I don't think he's got to lead them to the promised land and be a 1.5 goals against average, but I think there's only five, six weeks from the deadline to the end of the season. And I get what you're saying, but if you gave him a run in the spring, you probably know if it's, okay, this guy's ready for primetime, him and Vladar is fine, or like, you know what, we need to bring an event for next year to help this guy. I just, yeah, and it's, I'm fine with him. going for it because I think he will be good.

And hanging on to Markstrom, you know, the more I think about it, it doesn't matter anyway. Because I think that Markstrom, you're wasting a Vesna caliber season in Markstrom by being a 500 team. So what the hell difference does it make? That's just going to make your draft picks worse. Yeah.

And it's just two years left for him. What's he going to achieve in two years in Calgary? Is that what he came and signed here for? Are they going to win cups in the next two years? No. And you know what you can't appreciate probably? is how frustrating it is for some fan bases and some other teams to have what they feel is a very good team and to be losing

because of their goaltending. I just remember when Kipper left town, you were just so used. You never thought about goaltending whatsoever. And it's certainly not that level now. But you know what? Even going from Markstrom to whatever else, it becomes, well, who's starting tonight? Is he playing well enough? Should he be playing? You just get into that whole goaltender thing. Where with Kippre, you were worried about everything. But, and you're right. if if Wolf isn't the guy or isn't ready or whatever,

it could be some long nights where you're playing your balls off and you're getting some goals, but then backbreakers are going in. Are you giving up three in the third when you shouldn't be? Yeah. Or you stumble into a Talbot season or a Rimer season. Like there's there's always guys off the scrap. For every team that we're belaboring this maybe a bit,

but like Ryan, you make good points, but for every guy that does. have a rhyme or season that's doing decent. There's a Corpusallo that's sure shit. There's an area. And you can't, yeah, you don't get five, you don't get five tries at it. You go into the off season, okay,

if there's five goalies, well, we got to decide which one we want and then will he come and can we pay him and all of that? It's, because when you look at Corpusala or even Campbell, you're probably going to have to go in maybe for a year, and those guys are definitely more, but a year longer on term than you want. Maybe you

pay a little bit more. And then what if the guy doesn't turn out? Then you're like, shit because remember after again after kipper left it was a ramo and yeah yeah i i think you're you're in a spot where we understand the next two years you're not looking for you're not signing one three or four years even two years it's just like there's probably 80 guys that are good enough to play in the league you wait till all the highly toted guys are gone and you spin the wheel and maybe it's like a guy like alex nadelcovich was a nobody and is playing very well for Pittsburgh. A guy like Casey DeSmith has been very good in Vancouver that was just a guy.

Half the league is just guys that either are playing well or aren't. So you spin the wheel and you see what you got. And maybe Vladar wants to have a good season. Who knows? But yeah, like next year's not the year. It's like we have to go find our franchise goalie. No. Just find a vet. Give someone that can mentor Dustin Wolf a shot here. And maybe that still is Vladar. It's been a tough season for him. Kind of has been. I wonder, while we're in opening statements for, this is quite a statement.

I'll save this for later. I'll save this one for later. Okay. All right. That's good because it's not, the opening statements are really about, you know, our immediate thoughts from the game last night.

Question that I had for you. Is, is that line working? Huberto, Lindholm, Sharon Govich. Is it, it's working to some degrees. Six points in six games for Huberto, Sharon Govich. already passed last year's goal total could have had three last night that play and huberto found

him on the doorstep right at the top of the top of the crease there and uh it was a great say but there's a little it feels like there's a little something there and doesn't manjapani look better back with his old homies that was a nice swap interesting can you can you actually rely on them for some semi regular offense or or is it a five or six game stretch here against maybe some weaker opponents where they're putting up numbers. I think it's been good, but five games is probably not enough. Yeah, and if you look at Sharon Golich, it's a nice run here. He's over a point per game for more than a month now, I believe.

So the key's getting it done. Lindholm's a helpful player. I don't know that he's driving the offense so much as he's in the right spots all the time. And if Hubert O can help him a bit, great. I don't know if I'm there yet, but it is a nice run. I looked this morning on Sharon Govich. He had a goal and an assist in his first 10 games. Yeah.

But as he was bouncing around the lineup, had six in his first 18. And since that was kind of a tipping point for him, 21 points in his last 23 games and was on that goal scoring, kind of little binge that he was on there. But he, he's an impactful guy. And they're all kind of making each other better,

which is what you want out of a good line. And even Lindholm last night, that little kick play that he makes to get it to Hubert O, who then finds Sharon Govish, I feel like we're, we forget a little bit just because of the season that Lindholm's having and he isn't, you know, he's a free agent who doesn't want to stay and you need him to play better as you can get more. You do kind of forget that he's a very good hockey player, right? It's just he's not lighting the league up and going to bring in two firsts and prospects anymore. Colorado or Boston are much better if he slides into two C either.

like much like that's that's a great addition because again you put talent with him he scores if you don't he's just an elite defensive centerman that's okay offensively but again like if he could be a checking line center his whole career like he's a very good defensive player needs to be slaughtered right dean needs to be slaughtered right slotting it's about slotting i really like uh coner's area really really good breaking news here in here in opening opening statements this kid is he does a lot of little things, man. I know he gets that goal and I don't know if it's a good goal on Corpusallo or not. It's kind of a good shot.

The heck, but it's a heck of a shot. Yeah. As you take a look at the at the play here. And I'm thinking he's passing. And isn't that one of those things, right? When you're a rookie, you're of course passing. I'm not taking that shot. I don't want to.

No, no, get it to the veteran, get it to the guy who can, no, I'm going to shoot this thing and see how it goes. and he roofs. Poise, poise, poise, poise, poise, poise. He gets a goal and an assist, plus four, if you care about that, 1748 of ice, and actually caused the turnover, if you go back and watch the winning goal from Coleman, he's got, who kind of causes the turnover along the boards, uh, strips it from Joseph, then gets it to Cadry to Hanofan and then Cole.

And so he just misses out on getting a point. He was all over it last night. There were a lot of guys who were good last night. Obviously, you score six and, there's going to be guys feeling good about themselves. But I don't ever really come away. And I guess right around Christmas or whenever it was, Zeri had that four game stretch where he didn't have a point.

And you wonder, oh, is he kind of slowing down? Is he cooling off? And has been really good since then. He's just, whether he's getting points or not, I feel like he's, he's right into it. You don't lose him like you lose some guys. That line was great again. Posposal was faltered, seven hits all over Brady Kachuk.

Everyone wanted to kill him. I love that line. And it's weird because you would never have in the summer put those three names on the same napkin. It just was not a thing. You didn't even know if Pospital would make an NHL debut this season, if ever. It's just worked brilliantly those three.

It's going to be considered a steal of the draft a decade from now. Zeri. Look at that pike bone. The only player in the flames with a higher plus minus than Zary is Blake Coleman. He's having a year too. Who's having an unbelievable year. Who. And one other thing, just with that, with that line and how don't you love Pospicile, to your point,

I was worried about him when he cooked that, because he got clunked somewhere there in the jaw or whatever it was. And just because he has concussion history, you worry about him when he gets clunked like that, but comes back. And he's another guy that just finds, and I think sometimes he's looking for it. And sometimes he isn't. It's just, that's the mark of a good rat. Yes. You know, when that kind of, it just, it finds you. Who's in the middle of it? Well, it's pospousal.

And I don't even know if, you know, he's, he's involved. Nazam Codry, again last night. Is this, uh, yeah, well, there's, I'm going to get a little hippy. A little hippie. A little hippie into Brady could chuck. Yeah, for sure. I dig it. I dig it.

But just with that line, Codry has been very good. I just, because you know about when Zerner, and Pospisal both came in is when he started to come to life and that line was very good. Since October 26th, he's gone more than a game, more than one game without putting up a point only once. If he if he's off the score sheet, he's back in. And he may, then maybe he doesn't get something, but he's been very consistent. He went without a point against Tampa, Minnesota. And other than that since basically the start of the season, it's been a point or better.

And then right back after missing. One assist in his first eight games. It was a really slow start for Cadre. And that's when they lost that six games. And then the outdoor game. And then Zeri and Pospels will come in. 31 points in 33 games since the outdoor game. And including the outdoor game.

Since he had that incredibly heavy burden of having to pick the costume for the outdoor context, he's sleeping better. It's not a set design costume wardrobe guy. He's a hockey player. It's not his bag, man. Yeah. It's not his bag. 600 points last night for,

I was going to say watching, I watched the highlights again this morning. It was fairly routine, routinely simple for the flames to get into that zone. Yeah. They just kind of, we could have carried the puck, and the flames are not that team.

There are some teams very good at hitting the line with speed and scoring off the rush and that sort of thing. The flames, I don't think, would fall into that category. But it was not hard to play the Ottawa Senator. It's kind of what I was trying to say, I was a lot yesterday.

You know what I mean? It's kind of what I was trying to say about Shabbat yesterday. Like when you're a team that's in a rebuild and you've got nothing and you get a young player that steps in it can play. Everyone gets so excited. But he's not an all-star. He's not ever going to win a Norris. He's not a number one. And it's like it just reminds me of the young guns there are so much here.

It's like look at all these. Yeah, they're young and talented, but that doesn't mean they're stars. Like there's a big difference. That's okay. Right. You can have that. But I think that's why they've been so off because they've been saying there's our one. It's like, no, that's actually your three.

You need to find Sanderson and another guy. Which is why Chikrin. And you gave up Nadeh, that's to get chikrin, right? Right? And I think, and I think, I mean, you watch that. because he's probably good enough to run a power play. Yes. Right? Like everyone has to be slotted correctly, Dean. Slotting. Slotting. It's about slotting. And I don't believe that Chikrin, I don't think they've got the right

That is that the end is near. And yeah, Branstrom has not been, has not been a good fine for them, I don't think, coming out of the Mark Stone deal. God. I think, yeah, Shabbat is, he's an NHL. He's a good defenseman, but he's not going to carry you. And I don't.

And I don't know, Chikrin, he was traded for one reason or another. Generally, you take high for defensemen in high in the first round. You're not trading them within a year or two. He's got a bomb and is making low money. It was very attractive. But Arizona had a high price room and waited and waited and waited and waited, and waited and waited and waited and waited and never really got it. I think the consensus amongst other jams was you're overvalue in this guy.

A bit of a roller coaster. There's lots of pluses, but there's some areas. There's some plays that leave your head. scratched. And I certainly no chikrin expert, but didn't that happen to him in the draft where he was supposed to be like a really high pick and he kind of dropped down? He slid a little

bit and then yeah. Injury. Didn't he break his leg or something like that? No, I think they were talking of it was his his brain. The ability to think the game was kind of one of those things that started to factor in. That was the pick Detroit had.

They, I think it was Datsick or somebody's money went to Arizona and they made a pick swap in the first round. And it was the kid out of Chilowack that Detroit ended up taking Dennis Cholololoski. That was their pick after they swapped with the Yotes. So the Yotes basically ate bad money and moved all the way up and took Chikera.

You could, you could sign him and ride him out and you have a number three, maybe a number two locked in for, there's nothing negative about that.

I just look at what defensemen have got. And if it's sort of in that range of a first and two seconds or a first and a really good young D man, like that's kind of the neighborhood of what guys like Noah have and have commanded on the trade market.

And it's not like I'm looking at the NHL saying, yeah, there's no contenders that need D. It's quite the opposite. Like again, Toronto comes up. They would love a guy that just plays 25 minutes. Don't have to run the power play. We got Morgan Riley. We just need someone to give. us 22 to 25 minutes because

Gio's old and T.J. Brody's on the back nine. Okay. And you know, like Morgan Riley is not perfect to fit. Like that they'd give you a lot. But what's, look, again, it all comes. Yeah, sure. If you, if you raking it in, you can move him. But I just think that

he's movable at any time over the next four or five years. The no trade, no movement thing is irrelevant. Like I just don't even effing consider it because if Things are so bad, you want to move someone, how often does it not work out? Yeah, I agree. He's going to age well.

It's just he's never going to run your power play. So what? I don't want him to. And if I'm getting a 25th pick, I don't know what that's going to turn into. So then I've got a number, even if he's only a number three playing 22 minutes a night, if I get that for another six to eight years, that's, that's money. Well, I'm good. Let me blow your mind.

He's going to be good for most of the next deal. It's not ideal for the cap. They kind of like J.T. Miller. They gave him the money. They go get a first, but they don't have to wait four years to see what that first round pick was. They took that first, and they sent it to Detroit, and they got Philopronic.

And that's a younger player that they have some team control on. And he's been a big part of really helping that blue line, which was a sore spot for the Canucks forever. They also have Quinn Hughes too, though, right? They already had Quinn Hughes last five years when they've been shitty for most of them. But I'm comparing it to what the flames have.

The flames don't have a Quinn. If we or Anderson, two better defensemen than Hannifton, or at least comparable. I just think it's not as, for me, it's not as cut and dried. And I, I'm probably leaning more towards the Rett side. The more I watch him, the more I think you really miss his 23, 24 minutes a night.

He had, obviously, he's coming off from the night last night. But I do think he age as well. You could give him an eight year deal. He's going to, he's not going to be an old man when it's done. And we did it last night. If you get three picks, you might be lucky to get a guy who's as good with one of them. And who knows what the other two work out.

And like you said, that's down the road. Now, again, if you can take that pick and spin it into. the ironic thing has been a huge success. It wasn't risky. It wasn't a gamble. He was a known quantity in the NHL. If you think we can trade all these guys to get first, it also means you can take your first and add guys to these calibre,

doesn't it? You don't have to do it all at once either, though. You're going to have no defenseman next year. And so if you're the guy telling me you can always move Hannafin three or four down years down the road if you need to, then three or four years down the road, go get a Hannafin on the trade market. give up your first.

It's going to be in the 20s, hopefully, by the time that arrives. And then you're getting a 24-year-old, not a 30-year-old. You didn't put a whole lot of stock into Frank's comment on Monday. He was just talking out of both sides of his mouth, which I thought was confusing. Like he said, there's seven teams that could win the West, which to me tells me there's seven GMs that are looking to bolster their lineups. And then he said, yeah, the market might not be soft. I'm like, these guys want to win. They get paid to win.

There's not sitting on your hands when you think you can come out of a conference. I didn't think both those things jive. That's all. His point was that because it's so tight, are we going to potentially give away a big chunk of future with picks, prospects, young players in a year where we're in it, but we don't know, we don't know how we feel about our chances because it looks so wide open.

I do see both sides, but I do think it only takes one. I come back again. If you can get this haul, like you talk about all, of these assets. Mm-hmm. If you can get them,

then that changes everything. You couldn't get them at the draft when you wanted to, and I think Hanifan's played better. Lindholm's played worse. You're going to move some pieces no matter, but it might even be Markstrom. You are like, now you're absolutely stripping it bare.

You could have a third defenseman, but the most important piece of all of this, of all of this is not our brilliance. What the fuck does Noah Hanifin want? yeah that's a big part we're not talking right it's irrelevant you can't pay players got all the leverage oh yeah players could have decided he's like no no i need nine uh no audio and again are are you if you're craig conroy really keen to get back to the table and get pen on paper for a guy that twice already this year has quabbled at the notion of committing to the city you want flames right you always say

you want guys who want to play calgary worse yet that's the i you're right but it's been a muck it's been pretty messy around the flames organization for a year and a half now you go back to the Dallas win lose to edmonton and then shit just goes sideways last year's a disaster i so you're right you want guys that are there and committed but i i think from if you put yourself in hanaffin's shoes he should have been like wait a minute whoa whoa whoa what are we go what am i dealing with here what are we all about out. Right.

So if he, if you go, and I think it's irresponsible for Craig to go, well, he doesn't want to be here. I'm not going to even bother entertaining the idea. I think you have to go to him, talk to him again,

and go, okay, dude, it's shit or get off the pot. We're getting close to trade deadline. What's your deal? Are you going to sign that contract that we had? Because you can't go backwards on that contract now. Hanofen had it in his pocket.

So it's that or more because he's played quite well. And I think that's, you're going to see that in the trade market too. Like the closer you get to the deadline, the more desperation there's going to be. And so this is why this is such a tough question. Like could the flames do very well on a no hand of an extension? Absolutely. Could they do well trading them?

Absolutely. I mean, we just don't know what the package is going to be on March 8th for him. And we don't know what number. He's like, yeah, I will do it. We don't know those things. And you're right. So I was just going to say, I don't care what the packages I could get. I would keep them, but I don't know what he wants.

Yeah. And I just kind of for the sake of conversation, you kind of strip that other stuff away. It's just, it's that I think we're all on the same page. Lindholm, probably he's going to have to go. Tanev's got to go. The Markstrom thing is intriguing. Yeah. But if there's a guy who his consistency age, level of play,

you could probably wrap your head around keeping. It would be him. And yeah, we don't know what. Like, every situation is different, but how many times have you seen the teams dump four guys at the trade deadline So Markstrom, Hanif, Tanev, and Lyndon. It won't happen. Yeah.

Right? Yeah. It's almost like it's almost, it's almost too much to juggle for, right? If you're trying to get it done at the trade deadline to even understand what's, they should be doing it now if that's their game. Oh, well, we were saying it was a year ago. We were saying they couldn't come into the season with all of these UFAs. Yeah, there's seven to be fair.

And they don't have seven now. They have three. But, you know, there's also an AJ Greer deal that you probably. want to do. That's a nice little waiver claim. Turn that into a pick. That'd be a nice move. Or it's like, hey, AJ, do you want to stay here on a low number and teach some kids out of play? But they got so many forwards in the system.

I just don't know. Like, not necessarily dynamic ones, but you want ice time for a Klopka, for even like a Pedersen's had a really nice year with the Wranglers. You know Coronado and coach. There's lots of forwards. I just don't, you can go find an AJ Greer and give

them a million bucks if you need one. I'd just, I'd rather kick tires on the kids and turn them into another pick. They've done well in the draft the last 15 years, surprisingly. They haven't had a lot of picks, but they've done very, very well. And then, yeah, like, Hanif is the only one

that's really a tough decision, and that's why it's a good conversation, Dean, because it can go both ways and work very well for the team, I think, depending on the range of outcomes, it's like there's good in trading them and good in keeping them. I would focus my, again, it's my opinion and not knowing that

none of us know the truth. on what he wants and what you can get for him. But I would focus on moving Lindholm and Tanev and Markstrom. And if I can get Hanifin signed, perfect. I don't have to think about that. I'm not going to be upset that I've got a defenseman that can play 20 to 25 minutes. The other variable we don't know that they'll know more about is what's their confidence in getting a full season from Oliver Shillington because that changes things a lot.

And maybe they're not super certain on that number. Maybe they say it's a coin toss. maybe they're like it's 80% maybe they don't think they can. But they know more than us is my point. They would, but how? How do you know that? It came back to training camp. I'm ready to go.

Out. Like they could all be on the same page and under the assumption that everything's good. But then in a week, it could be not good. And it's no one's fault. No, agreed. But he's a free agent and they'll have an understanding of, okay, if this guy's feeling right, what's our ability to re-sign them? And I do feel like there's some loyalty to the organization.

you've seen the comments from Schillington, that doesn't just feel like words. That feels like he's very appreciative of the support. I don't think they'd have any issues trying to resign him. And I think he would resign that. But I think to that to that end, you almost have to operate as though. I guess what my point would be what his status is would not affect what I'm doing with Noah

Hanof him. And you might know more by March 8, right? He might be playing. And even better because I think. And I think. Sweden and retire. Who knows? All the more reason.

keep Hanifin because you've got four defensemen right there. And like it, we don't need to be like if they trade all those other guys, you're going to have you should have enough of a stockpile to influence your future moving forward. You don't have to wipe it clean. So if you've got those four defensemen,

Weger, Anderson, Hanifin and Shillington, assuming he's back and normal and playing well, it's been two freaking years. He might be terrible whether he wants to play or not. But if those four are all playing the way they're supposed to, you have a top four setup for D. And now you work the five and six side of it. And maybe you got a young guy or this or that.

You don't have to have nothing to go out and play in the league with. You have to have a team. And if you've got it, right? Like, do you want wolf just being fed to the wolves? Like, you want to throw wolf through the wolves? Like, what are we talking about? There's also, like, if you, let's say you do, man, we got a deal.

We couldn't refuse with Tannifan. We got to make this deal. It's a bunch of assets. There's always veteran guys you can sign on one year deals, whether that's like a, like I look at Chicago. How did they backfill? It's like, okay, Nikita Zytev. Not great.

He can go be a number five for you. See, this is where, and we're all guilty of it. Like Zach Bogosian, go find a vet that can play 14 minutes. No, no, listen. We all end up kind of talking. out of both sides of our mouth. On one hand, Noah Hannifan's worth a shitload. He is so good.

You don't believe. Bring on the picks of prospects. If we don't have, we'll go get second Bogosian or Nikita. No, no, no, I'm not saying to play the Hanifan role.

Not at all. I'm just saying it's not like if you trade Hanofin that all of a sudden De Simone and Gilbert are second pair guys. Like, no, you go to free agency. You sign a veteran to a one-year deal. It's not nearly as good. You're going to get a high pick.

And in two years, you know, someone in your system's playing in that slot. Retro, it is hard, because I saw this, it makes me laugh. Pinder looks like a wrestler. It is harder to take you at face value when you look like this. Trying to sound very smart. I know you are. In fairness, I think you're doing a fine job.

Where the coach is like, yeah, but have you seen Markstrom and how well he's playing?

I wonder if there's a, amicably, but if there is a bit of a difference in opinion there. And all sorts, I'm throwing you under the, whatever, do we have the standings, Jack, if you could find them, can you put them up there? And it's, it's not that big of it. If you want those, we have those.

I think that Conroy is looking at this and going, right we're going to go to the all-star game and that's when the decisions made are we going for it or not what do they got eight games before the all-star break yeah that's correct they go to i guess and then six and they're off right if if they're above if they're if they if they're within striking distance of nashville and like say they're sitting in that seattle spot yeah it might be completely different Right, right?

Like do not think for a second that Mr. Murray Edwards doesn't want this team to make the playoffs. And if you're sitting right there and you're getting Vezna caliber goal tending, it might be the exact opposite of everything we've been preaching. Well, and what you want is you want the cake and you want to eat it too. You're like, you know,

we really should do. We should make the playoffs, get the money and also be good by the time that new building comes up with all these young guys we're going to get. Like, of course we want everything. That's, that's, uh, I wonder if, if,

Get him some work in the A. Let's see Wolf again. I wouldn't be surprised at that at all. And the thing about looking at those standings, because you see 41 points. Oh, 43. The flames have played more games than everybody around them. Yeah, the points for sentence where you've got to focus there. And then like you said, they're 12th in terms of points, percentage.

They're 12th in the West. And overall, I think they're tied with Montreal and the overall standings, eighth from the bottom. Yeah. And you're right. I think in a way they have played as well as you can envision this group playing. Is that I don't want not to overstate it? I totally agree.

But it feels. There's been two thinkers. That's about it. Yeah. It feels like this is kind of max output in terms of results, wins and losses with this team. They've been healthy. they've been engaged, things have gone the right way.

They don't get blown out. It wouldn't even be the bottom falling out. If you lost four or five or four of six, then suddenly you're below Minnesota and you tumble a little, it's as good as it's been. It's still rather bleak in a lot of ways. It's actually been a really good season in a lot of ways because I think you've seen that the coaches got them working.

There is a, I think a tightening in the D zone, especially when you consider the personnel they've had to use of late. You're having some strong seasons from guys, but you're also, again, you're theoretically picking eighth in the lottery tonight and you haven't traded any UFAs yet. They're still in range for a top five pick. And they've been fun to watch, hardworking, you're having some career years.

They haven't been blown out. Like there's two bad efforts since the outdoor game in my mind. They got thumped by Minnesota at home 5-2. They were dog shit. And the Sunday game in Chicago against three, Rockford Icehogs. Those are their two bad efforts. Every other game they've been in. All of them. Vegas, Colorado,

Dallas twice. Like the Gaulid run, they were in all those games except the one with Minnesota. So we could maybe have our cake and eat it too. Yes. What you're saying. Have some good hockey to watch, be engaged, and still be in the lottery and have a good pick.
