Barn Burner: Boomer & Pinder with Rhett Warrener - Can The Vegas Golden Knights Force A Game 7?? | BB Clips

Episode Date: June 13, 2026

Boomer, Pinder and Rhett react to a massive Game 5 victory by the Carolina Hurricanes as they take a 3-2 series lead and move within one win of the Stanley Cup. After another swing in what has been an... unpredictable Final, the guys discuss whether all the momentum has now shifted firmly to Carolina and if the Golden Knights have any realistic path to forcing a Game 7 back in Raleigh. They break down what the Hurricanes are doing right, why Vegas' top players haven't been able to take over the series, and whether the pressure is now completely on the Knights heading back home. History says teams that win Game 5 in a tied Stanley Cup Final are in a great position to finish the job, but is Vegas capable of one more push? Are the Hurricanes about to win the Stanley Cup, or do the Golden Knights still have life left? Let us know what you think in the comments.Video Link: https://youtu.be/QfWAmFQcLwE#nhl #nhlshorts #nhlplayoffs #nhlpredictions #nhlhockey #nhlpicks #stanleycup #stanleycupfinal #vegasgoldenknights CHECK OUT OUR STUFF ⬇️BARN BURNER MERCHhttps://nationgear.ca/collections/shirts/FlamesnationBARN BURNER SHORTS https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLj_bcGtvvo-cW2DHEDZ6dEO5ePDmlhZc9&si=jo8iNGxT4ImhS2Y8📲 Follow us:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fnbarnburner/X (Twitter): https://x.com/barnburnerfn?lang=en🎧 Listen on:Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/be/podcast/barn-burner-boomer-pinder-with-rhett-warrener/id1648562889Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3Mc6Qd5U22R2zbMlQ7RxIiProducer: Jack Haverstock Hosted on Acast. Starting point is 00:00:00 So the Vegas Golden Knights have lost back-to-back games. And at a certain point in this series, I think three of us, Jack, myself, because you were away, I think, after the one game, right? But this feels like it's Vegas. And in the two games since then, kind of feels like it's Carolina. It's flying away from them a bit. They did not look good two games ago.
Starting point is 00:00:25 And I don't know that they were much better last night. They were okay in the first. They got the first goal. But from that point on, the Keynes just steadily took over. It felt like. So can I? So we're at home. The game's on.
Starting point is 00:00:43 Blah, blah, blah. And the coach of the Keynes is behind the bench and the shovelers, I don't know if she's admiring or one. Who is that? Tuck it under your belt. Yeah. Well, that's Rod. Who?
Starting point is 00:00:54 Oh, Rod the bod. She's like, what? Yeah, Rob the boy. Yeah. Rod the bod. well she's like that's a cool name what I'm like he because he's a workout freak yeah I think the gains are in better shape I'd agree with that like I was the hardest skating fastest team in the league they look back to Taylor hall yeah saying when he got there and he's already you're like yeah you have to learn like you skate like the wind we showed that clip earlier on he was talking about how when he came from Chicago to Carolina he had to he realized very quickly for the style of play the hurricanes play he had to be in better shape because it's skating full tilt all the time. And again, this was Taylor Hall, not
Starting point is 00:01:33 yeah, Joey Mcuffet and say, that from Dustin Bufflin at a point in his career, so I need to get in better shape. I think they're in better shape, and I'm going to hate giving Pinder any credit because typically he's a dink, but Hart is not giving me any. You can't put your team in a spot to need five every night.
Starting point is 00:01:55 No. Every single game. It's two, it's two. It's two. It's two. many. And I know it was, people were not liking it when I wouldn't allow him the credit of he's a good goalie, but it was, it was a hot two series and I think he's a fine goalie. He's not a difference maker. And he's shown that here.
Starting point is 00:02:10 He's not right now. That's true. Like any goal you can get hot. Some of the goals you're like, uh, nothing egregious. It's not his fault, but it's like, no, but if you want to win a Stanley Cup, guess what you've got to do. You're going to stop one of those pop. Like, to state the obvious, if they have
Starting point is 00:02:26 Mika Kepersoft, this thing's already over. Yeah. Like the goalie is not a difference maker. The goalie's a guy. To the point where I think, despite Tortorella chastising Johnny Lazar's post game, I think they absolutely are thinking about a goal of cheats for game six. Yeah, I will talk about. We'll get to it later.
Starting point is 00:02:42 Yeah, we'll talk about that. We can walk through it. We talked about Jordan Stahl. We were impressed going in. You continue to be impressed as he does it again. Hope you got some futures. You're at home and Vegas takes a one-nothing lead. and this guy goes into the corner,
Starting point is 00:03:01 takes the body, just gets to the front of the net in time, and it's a hell of a pass from Nikolai Eilers. Great tip. Great tip. It's right after he bodies someone. Yeah, he went and, uh, he caused the turnover kind of.
Starting point is 00:03:16 Like getting it on the foreshack, but that goes back to, I think they're in shape. They're getting there. Then they're beating guys back to the front of the net. When we talked about this, this series, it was like, Can Vegas skate with them?
Starting point is 00:03:29 And it was right after we asked if they could skate with Colorado, and they answered that resoundingly, and I think there was a lot of circumstances around Colorado, not looking anywhere near as good as it could have been. But this is where it starts to show up. It might not necessarily be on like rush plays or odd man. It's just we're now five games in. Who's getting to lose pucks?
Starting point is 00:03:47 Who's winning 50? Yeah, the relentless pressure is. It's not necessarily when you think of speed. It's like, oh, well, we're going to get caught on odd man. No, no, that's probably not it. It's who's going to win these battles, when the series is going to swing. Stahl now six goals in five games.
Starting point is 00:04:02 It's a five game goal streak, tied for the longest ever to start a cup final. First, since Yvonne Cornyi in 1973. The roadrunner. She's been a while. He's the heart and soul that team. And for much of the playoff, it was, where's Jarvis,
Starting point is 00:04:21 where's Ahho, where's Fetchnikoff, where are these guys? Jarvis gets an overtime winner. and Svetchnikov, he's been scoring some goals along the way, and he gets two last night. Now, Ojo, still very quiet outside of, outside of this goal, I think. But, yeah, but that waits off his back now. You can tell us.
Starting point is 00:04:42 And his linemates are scoring. I don't think he does a shit. It's an, even you watch in slow motion how quickly he takes it off the skates. Yeah. That right there is why they say playing in the NHL is easier. Pink. That pass at any other league is going. There's no chance to get in the space.
Starting point is 00:04:57 No, he's not picking it up. And to, like, to have that puck not only off your skates to an area where you're sticking handled, it's on edge and it doesn't start a little bit all. He'll just put it in. He put his feet in a position route at OPEC. Click, click. Yeah, I'm chewing boards. It's just the skill level.
Starting point is 00:05:16 Yeah. And we're like, yeah, they don't have a lot of star power. That's just what a middle six guy can do in each of these days. It's insane. It's, they've gotten to a point. They're a win away. on the backs of guys like Taylor Hall, on Stankov and some other guys
Starting point is 00:05:31 kind of lifted them up when the Svetnikovs and Ahos weren't being accounted for. I don't disagree. You're 100% right, but that's how this team's built. Yeah. Oh, yeah. You know what I mean? Like, yes, those guys are still at the top of the food chain,
Starting point is 00:05:46 but that list is a compact list. Like, it's not like you've got one. It's not Doyleys, right? It's not dry salemate David, Leon, and then if they don't do it, we're screwed. It's always been by committee with this. Yeah, and part of the reason that being in shape is, at least that's my hot take today,
Starting point is 00:06:04 but they all do it. Like if you have the fourth line out there, do you feel differently when they dump it in compared to the Aho line? No. They're coming. And Jankowski's had some big moments in the series that fourth line has. Yeah. Like Martinuk has points.
Starting point is 00:06:18 And prior playoff runs has been a big factor. Was it? I'm trying to remember who it was. I think it was Jarvis, maybe this series. But guys have talked about it, about being in shape. It's like, well,
Starting point is 00:06:29 when that's your coach. How do you not? How are you? Rod the Bod. Yes. Sheppler is very impressed. When Rod the Bod, when Rod the bod.
Starting point is 00:06:35 Started in research. God. I should be took a shirt off. They, yeah, they follow his lead to a certain extent. The 4-1 goal, it's the third helper of the night
Starting point is 00:06:48 for Nikolai Eilers, I believe. You saw it on the stall pass. Piling up points. Yeah, Svetichikov gets. two in the night. The other part of it is this is with Mark Stone in the box
Starting point is 00:06:58 on that high stick. That's a crazy little, obviously he knows he's there. This is probably something they practice. They don't practice that. That's instinct. And he slides it under Lozahn stick as well. He ain't turned. That's a bad pass to Eilers and he makes good on it. So that's two power play goals for Svetichikoff. Their power play when you remember in the
Starting point is 00:07:22 series, games one and two was 0 for 7 in game three, Torts elects the challenge, because if we don't get it, their power plays ice cold. They score on it. They win that game in double overtime, but since then in games four and five, they're three for seven now on the power play,
Starting point is 00:07:38 so it's come to life. And just to get back to the in-shaped rod thing, I don't think they collect hockey players and then everyone's inspired by Rod, and then it's like, okay, now you're one of us. This team's won a first round at least seven years in a row. These are the players they hunt. this is their identity.
Starting point is 00:07:55 There are certain players they're not interested in getting. If you cannot be that type of guy, you're not a hurricane. Like they have an identity. They really do. It's kind of one of those, it's kind of a cheesy, but they're dogs. Yes. There's a dog in them. They go.
Starting point is 00:08:12 And Elers, I did not think was a dog. A good player. Yeah. But that's now he's back to back three point games. You said it earlier. So if they win the cup, is it a good signing? even though it's year one of this multi-million long-term deal. Right now the way he's putting up points.
Starting point is 00:08:29 Hell yeah. And he had a career year on points. It was just the even strength goals were way off. And I don't know. You watched him in Winnipeg and you're like, why won't they elevate him? And maybe you could argue that, you know, you've got Shifley and Connor and he was always going to be a secondary piece.
Starting point is 00:08:46 But, I mean, you watch him now. Injured a lot too. He can fly. Yeah, that availability is a thing. But it's not like the offer. the number they offered him is crazy. I think if you're the Jets, you'd love that opportunity. Maybe he just wasn't going back to Winnipe because we've seen that with lots of guys,
Starting point is 00:09:00 be true, but another Wheeler. Yeah. And I wonder, it's may be going a little bit far, but we're talking about a player that the flames will have to make a choice on probably in Vigo Bjork in this upcoming draft. Yeah. Like right now you're not thinking that Stankovin is too small or that Jackson Blake is too small. Or Jarvis is too small.
Starting point is 00:09:23 You need dogs is what you. need. If he's got that game in him, if he's got that. How old Stankhoven now? This is his third year in the league? I think it's more than that. He was in Dallas. It was the strong grand draft, right? In that second round that he won't he's 23. And so here's the thing. Wasn't a center till this year. That was a big challenge they put forth. Heard his productivity the first half of the year, but he's figured it out and he can do it. And so if you are in the Vigo Bjork business, maybe the most important thing to remember is pay because he's 23 and he's just become
Starting point is 00:09:58 second round he wasn't as high that's a different um and and he's even smaller than bork he's two inch like he was 5-8 and his draft year bork's now 510 because that's kind of and i don't want to go down it's not same same but it's not a bad same same but but that's what they kind of talk about with bork right is that he's relentless competitive and high IQ that sort of thing probably more of a playmaker where stankovin's more of like a shit disturber yeah i don't know it just kind of watching Jackson Blake draws just in terms of like a
Starting point is 00:10:28 forecheck physicality like using his body more it's where the way you hear Bjork described is like higher IQ cerebral but high compete as well and that's probably why your second round or not this gets his nose there I just mean like high jacks you lake takes the shot last night both of those guys right snank open and Blake didn't they both draw penalties last night I know Blake did for sure yeah you would have hated
Starting point is 00:10:51 oh man I was thinking about Rhett on half these penalties because some of them you can't argue. You put your stick in someone's yap where it could graze their eyeball. That's going to be a high stick. That's why I don't call the questionable bullshit. But the other stuff, it's like, holy crap, like you're going to call that right now. And I get the over the glass stuff. That's not a judgment call, but Eilers had two of them.
Starting point is 00:11:10 The canes had three of them. They took three penalties. All them were puck over glass, fellas. They want a Stanley Cup because of a puck over glass. I don't feel bad. I see. So not great for Vegas. guess the goaltending will talk about William Carlson is done he got bodied yeah by
Starting point is 00:11:30 Miller on the on the on the end board the official word is unlikely to return to the series but when you watch him on the bench you're like this is he's done so he kind of gets crunched right there nothing dirty looking at the wrist he skates off torts gets where to carlson is gone That's a bad bench to have to get off the ice. Yeah, you got to cross the ice. Hard to sneak away. Hard to sneak away. And I think there's some concern for the Vegas Golden Knights.
Starting point is 00:12:08 The goaltending's not been great. Is it two days in between? Yeah. That's their best, that's the best thing they. You're on the brink, but you've got time to reset. Yeah. And they like doing this at the end of the series because it's not insignificant travel. I've done this a long time.
Starting point is 00:12:25 I see things, despite my poor eyesight. I see things. And John Tortorella gave us a little window inside where there is concern. John, in a spot like this, what do you want your team to draw on as you look ahead and move forward? We're just going to get ready for our next game. We'll be back here. We're just going to do it in a different order. We're going to find a way.
Starting point is 00:12:49 I'm going to leave my clothes here. That's for sure. You'll be in the hotel. Standing up. John, did you consider it all going to Aden Hill in third period? Was there any conversation? Oh, that could be the stupidest question that word. So, I mean, it makes you less our boy Johnny Lazar's of the nation.
Starting point is 00:13:06 It makes you laugh. But he's, you know, I'm leaving my clothes. I'm leaving him. I'm leaving him in the hotel. Look how confident I am. Well, you're not, but I see what you're saying. I don't think he could do that. You're going to have to leave the hotel.
Starting point is 00:13:20 I did that as for training off a leather jacket. I think he can leave the ship, but it was not good. They weren't happy with me. You know, so he doubled up on the, we'll be back. I'm leaving my clothes, this sort of thing. And then, I mean, it's not the craziest question he's ever heard, but he had to know it was coming and put a hand grenade on it as quickly as he could. Was it 3-1 through 40?
Starting point is 00:13:40 I'm trying to remember. Because after 40, you wouldn't have pulled. That's crazy. But I think what the question is actually getting at is, are you considering a goalie change? Because for game six, I think that's a reasonable question. After 40, that's not the most. I don't think it was crazy. to think it after 40 because it was 3-1.
Starting point is 00:13:56 They had just scored. Like they were starting to come. Can I, could I? Just Vegas had been out, Vegas had, it was 9-1 in the second periods in the series. They've owned them. They've on second periods until last night. Carolina scores twice, once in the power play, 1750 once and near the, it's three to one. They're coming.
Starting point is 00:14:16 Carlson's gone. And Hart is, Hart is looking like he has through the entire series. on one hand, there's no lead safe. We can't give this game away. We're only down by two. But on the other hand, much like going to Bussies, did they need a spark?
Starting point is 00:14:32 Is this? Can you get one more save somehow? So I'll take torts aside on this. You've been, you're two wins away from a Stanley Cup. Yeah. Has he been great? No.
Starting point is 00:14:46 But it's a complete, it could be interpreted as an act of desperation for me to go and through a goal, a goaltender who's been, sitting around for two months and had a shitty year. Yeah. The other side of that is Bussie was awesome this year. He was not.
Starting point is 00:15:03 And I'll say this. If you're going to throw Aden Hill into the series, is it fair to throw him in after 40 minutes? Or do you give him a fresh game? I think it's better. Less time to think about it. Just get in there and play. Go play. So you.
Starting point is 00:15:13 And if he plays well, now you've got something to build off of it. You throw him in its fresh game and he has a stinker in the first. You're like, oh, fuck. So you think you're going back to Hart then, I guess. I think Hart plays it over. I do too now. Because I think they're seriously. And I don't know that it's right or wrong, but I just think that.
Starting point is 00:15:31 It might not matter. They're not getting elite golden. See, that's what I was going to say. When you talk about that speaks of desperation, I think that's, that's, they are desperate. It's desperate. They're on the brink guys. They have to be desperate. You play every hand you got left that you think can help you.
Starting point is 00:15:44 Yeah, but he. Play every card, but this might not help. I agree. It's going to help. Yeah. I won't be surprised either way. I don't think it's a massive difference. But.
Starting point is 00:15:53 They have to think about every option they have because they're literally a loss away. Well, there's only two games left. Yeah. Penultimate. And knowing you just put yourself in the coach's spot, you know you're going to be asked about your goalie potentially because it's been four goals at night. You need to be ready to, what's your, are you going to say nothing about it? Are you going to always protect his players? So you knew that was common. But there has to be.
Starting point is 00:16:19 And the other thing we don't know is what's the injury? obviously McNabb is playing 20 whatever a night with a broken face. I wonder if that's out. Eichol can't be right. McNabb took a couple dumb penalties last night too. I don't think it's hard. That's true. With your face that way, you don't sleep right.
Starting point is 00:16:39 Oh, I think he's, it's incredible. He's even playing. He went to breathe properly. You said it a while ago and I guess didn't play. You don't think about it. It's the little things like completing, like finishing your checks, that sort of thing. What if you just kind of, oh, I bit my lip, shit, my lip, I got a big fat lip and it's all cut in the inside.
Starting point is 00:16:56 I don't need stitches, but hurts to eat and that. Then you're on the plane and it's bugging you. You're in bed. It's bugging. Can't sleep. Now, what if it's your finger or your, all of it. So my finger and my tooth got chipped and my fat lip and I got cut over here, all that stuff. Imagine when you took a puck right to your jibs and you're on planes and trying to sleep and trying to breathe and trying to eat and everything.
Starting point is 00:17:21 It's remarkably It really is kind of crazy that he's out there, but they need him out there. But nothing nothing's really kind of going their way. Nothing is going their way, but it But it changes that. We're all of the same opinion,
Starting point is 00:17:37 but geez, and we should be because you read the stats yesterday, the team that wins game five, typically go, I don't know, torts coached the team that did the opposite, but it only takes, one little thing and it all changes again. So what you're looking for if you're torts is how do I get a spark?
Starting point is 00:17:58 I need them fresh. Go home. Do not come to the rank for two days. I will see you what days on Sunday. Sunday, yeah. Sunday Tuesday if they have it. Sunday. Sunday.
