new GM in New Jersey, Nico Heeshire is eligible for an extension July 1. He's been a very good player for them. They selected him first overall in 2017. He's their captain. He's their captain. He's 6-1. He's 200.

He's averaged over 30 goals over the course of the last four years. Average. I imagine Nico Heisher and the Devils are going to get something done, but it's the lead by Pierre Lebrun here. And given that there's a brand new GM and multiple seasons consecutively where they've kind of been disappointing, is there a chance Nico Heeshire becomes available around the NHL where everyone, or at least a huge number of teams like, oh boy, we could use another center. Here's the hockey DB on Heeshire. Last four seasons, 31 goals, 27 goals, 35 goals, 28 goals, career high 80 points four years ago.

Again, he's 27 until January. He is, this is a very, this is not a, oh, what about this 32 year old freight? No, no, no, no. There was still some prime here. Would it make sense for the Calgary Flames who holds six first rounders in the next three years and maybe seven if the Golden Knights win the cup to say, let's package some picks together, which would be good picks and maybe a roster player that seems to be, you know, not a fit here at this point. Hello, Conner's Erie. And try to get a centerman to speed up what everyone knows is a rebuild. No, no.

So you would rather hold picks 20 to 30 and hope to find that player. I don't think you're speeding up a rebuild because you got Nico Heisher is my point. I think he's a hell of a player. I think he's a really good player. I don't think you're, you have too many other holes to watch these teams still playing. They've got depth and talent. We don't have it. They got an S ton of wingers.

But they're not top-end wingers. No, they're not. Top-end wingers, not easy to get, but certainly easier than centers to get. It looks like they're in a slot where they're going to have a pick of a very good defenseman in this year's draft class. That adds to a group that's already got Perek.

You guys think Brestevich could be a top four guy. Ball's already there. You have White Cloud who's been serviceable and cleverly for a bit. So we're just knocking on the door. Nope, but I'm trying to spin a conversation. I'm saying no. Because here's the thing. You're going to have to make a call Morgan Frost this season.

He's a UFA. And I think Nico Heischer is worlds better than Morgan Frost. And if you were open to extending Morgan Frost, which you were last time we chatted, would you throw a couple firsts of a Vegas? Yeah, like he's better. And like I, Morgan Frost's contract is not going to have me spinning out first rounders for

Nico Heeshire, who's a good player. But he will be 28. he's like 30 goal seasons but if you look at the points like he's I think he's a good player 70 point forward 70 like he's better than anything they've got yes but I am not going to be trading away future picks at this point

Okay, so he's not a center. Either way, you were thinking Hong's going to be... I think Hansik's the top nine next year on this team. What the fuck does that help? I'm just saying he's a player. The whole concept of like, I don't think they're going to use

all six of these first rounders on picks. And so what is the type of move that you move one of these first. And again, a reminder, if you're picking 25 to 32, you probably have less than a 50. that guy plays living 200 games in the league. Great. So now I'm going to argue the other side.

If I'm the devils, why do I won't pick 25 to 32? It's not going to be he sure. He was number one. Right. And so if I was trying to say, okay, what would it, and again, the whole premise is that, I know what you do.

The hurry is not going to. I don't want to bury you. No, no. And again, I'm not saying this is a. That's a, I'll take him, but you have to give me more scenario. It would be a lot more than Zeri. And so what my- I know, but you threw Zeri out there.

The starting point is that I think New Jersey and he sure are a fit and they're fine. He's their captain. This isn't going to happen. But what it's a conversation about is when you have as many first as they have and you have as many prospects as you have, what is the type of deal that makes sense for the flames

that will speed things up a bit? They don't have anyone that looks like a top two center in the NHL. This guy's a very good number. I'm not worried about it. I shouldn't say worried about it. I'm not addressing it yet because I look at next year, what is my team going to be next year? If we're bottom five again,

I want another crack at a lottery ball. I want another high pick so that that player can potentially be better than Nico Heeshire when I need him to be. And I'd make that same case we're not signing Frost, to be fair. I don't give a check. It's centers, that's all it is. Yeah, but it's not, like Morgan Frost's car track status

has no bearing on whether I'm trading a first rounder in 27 or 28. It just has a bearing on how high you're going to pick next year, right? A team without Morgan Frost, whoe. Like that's, if you want DuPont, you trade Frost. You know what I mean? Well, you might trade Frost. Yeah, I think they will.

So, and? And if you think you're getting DuPont, but you need a centerman, there's a centerman out there. Right. That's supposed to be as good if not, like, he's a centerman. So I'm like, the Joe said, the point you're making. Do they use all those picks? Probably not.

I would be more weight. for another year or two, or is there an offer sheet where I need four first rounders, and I've got extra first rounders in the kitty, that I can get a guy who's 23, not 28. The other side of all this is the other teams have to want to dance with you. Right. So it's all, well, we've got six picks. So I don't want them. Oh, who are we going after?

McDavid? Like, it's great to say, let's upgrade and not use all six picks. Who's doing it? What's, where's the fit? I agree. I agree. And so if you were trying to build hypothetical what's fair, I would say,

okay, if a team likes what Connor Zeri's skill set is and you give them two firsts in a second, that is a pile of assets that they don't have to go up to a podium. They can turn into different parts. They get cap space. He's just going to be north of 10,

if Alex Tuck is. I'll tell you that. He's a center. He's not a winner. What do they care? Well, I mean, they have more cap issues than the flames to be sure.

I don't know the jerseys. But if you're top center, you're going to just dump them? Well, Jack's their top one. He's their two. but yeah. Hey, well, you want to be competitive. There's more of a crunch there than there is here.

And again, I think he is going to sign New Jersey. Yeah, I kind of do too. And if he doesn't, that would be one of those things. He's your captain. He was your first overall pick. And he's been good. And he's been good. What are you not?

What's going on here? What's the issue? And so it's, it's Pierre LeBren doing a good job of getting us thinking about stuff. A little content for us on a Tuesday or May 26th. But it does remind you, like, if you can't draft a number one

two center. How the hell do you get these guys? Yeah. Like, and you think about, okay, where have they moved? Well, Ikel, next surgery. I can appreciate what you're saying there.

I think it's a little premature. I also think if the, like they're going to have their pick of their favorite D at six, or not their favorite one of the really good group of five. And maybe Mulholtra slides or you say, Chicago, we love Stanberg. We're going to move up to two spots. You're going to get a really good D likely. I don't know that there's a forward there for them unless, like the Vigo

Bjork thing scares me a bit. He's 5.10. Maybe he's great. But it's just, there's so few small centers in this league. If you know you have a D here and you're adding it to a group that like all a sudden it's a pretty good young D-Court. Now, Carl's going to go play Nodak next year. But so you're still a few years away.
