It is Barn Burner on a Wednesday.
Lots of flamesy stuff going.
First fall ball practice at the night.
You're watching, you're inspired by these kids at major junior camps.
Boomer Jr. looking a lot of vitality in vain today.
Way more energetic.
That trip to Scottsdale boom.
It has really turned your complexion around.
I mean, I don't know what kind of Botox you're doing, but you look young, buddy.
The sun, the pool, the cougars, and Scottsdale.
Bill. Life is good down there. Let me tell you. Oh, boomer, you silly one.
Welcome to the program. It is brought you by Bet365 in presentation of our great pals of Bet365. Check out their early payout from Bet365 and baseball's five run payout. Join the show with us, would you? You want to?
I'm here.
Yeah, you have to.
That's part of your gig.
Other people live on the YouTube chat can join the show by just adding a monetary donation to their comment.
We'll send that money to the youth centers of Calgary, a place, two places in town that are helping dramatically improve the lives of at-risk youth.
That's something we can all get behind.
Makes the city a better place.
Mensters.
What's, you think what's going on here?
They've got these new chairs that you guys.
And boom, sliding some slop shot in behind you there.
See that?
Jack's got his Alabama peanuts behind him.
I put those there.
Oh, did you?
I'd love it, Jack.
I put those in my truck.
Aminos tonight.
Got the logo, the most mediocre NFL team behind me.
Looks good, buddy.
The best seven and ten team in the NFL.
Hang on, hang on.
It changes quickly.
It's kind of like the Calgary weather.
Two weeks ago, Jack, had them at 12 and 5.
12 and 5?
How did that happen?
That's a 35-degree sunny day in Calgary.
Now the fall, like, seasons changing, might be raining.
And yesterday we had, what?
What?
Eight and nine.
I went back and count.
And today?
Oh, yeah, probably still.
Okay.
All change.
So steady.
We are live in the McLeod Law Studios.
If you've got legal needs of any type, all you need to know is there's one name to know.
And that's MacLeodlaw, macloud-law.
com, whether that's a family matter.
Maybe you're buying property, red, amassing estates.
You're a tycoon of sorts.
So what was it down in states, Montana about?
113,000 acres.
That's it, eh?
Yeah.
Someone's going to have to sign that paperwork for you.
You'll throw some buys in them.
Yeah, yeah.
I saw you were thwarted on your bid by the Angels.
Well, some guys aren't businessmen.
They just spend money.
I had a nice business plan.
Fair.
Yeah.
I thought it was a fair off.
For everybody involved.
What was your bid?
They backdoored me.
Yeah, I mean,
we don't,
I can't,
let's this,
I can't say what Retz bid is,
but I can tell you the winning bid was slightly under $4 billion
from Stan Cronky,
who, uh,
he's completed the set.
There are no leagues he doesn't own teams anymore.
He has an English Premiership team.
He's got an NFL team.
He's got an NFL team.
He's got an MLS team.
He's got an MLS team.
He's got a women's soccer team.
Lacrosse.
But he didn't have the one missing piece,
and that's probably why you outbid Red for the Angels.
And the thing about Cronky is like all of his teams win.
So the Angels are going to go from a dumpster fire of an organization to
he's probably going to end up turning those guys around and making them a legitimate
contender one of these days.
Well, and the other thing is that the Dodgers, their ownership is having major issues.
Maybe we're seeing a power.
swing in LA.
We'll see.
What?
So the guy that owns the Dodgers is probably going to have to sell him because he was
illegally floating money to the Dodgers from insurance holdings from companies he owned,
which was, he's now being investigated for fraud over.
The FBI took his computer and he starts selling shit.
Just sold the Lakers.
Arsenal or Chelsea.
Yeah, an EPL team.
Off for sale.
Dodgers probably have to be next to cover his ass.
He'll,
he almost.
These are the guys you're competing with, right?
You're playing by the book with McLeod Law and these scoundrels.
the states great shysters well have you got any issues and you'll have any shysters
i'll take care you that's all you need to know calgary born and bred and raised and proud
uh i promised lots of flames today yeah that's why i'm here i just gonna sit here me and jack
are gonna enjoy the nerd talk i figured you'd sit and watch the show today but we are gonna need a bit
do you want a good beer while you're not else my coffee you have a temple if you want
So let's, why don't we start with,
well, the general manager, the Calgary Flames spoke yesterday.
I texted him on Saturday.
And what do you say?
He said, don't text me when you're drunk.
And was he right?
Yeah.
To not text him or that you were drunk.
Oh, okay.
I text him and said, we should talk.
I have a lot of wisdom I could share.
Don't text me when they're drunk.
He's like, Rhett, I watched the show.
I know all your wisdom.
Just throwing it out there.
I think it's great.
I didn't get them in studio.
Let's do it.
We got new chairs here.
I'm not sure.
I feel like I'm falling off.
The camera's higher.
I'm looking up.
The lights are brighter.
What's going on?
Side to side to side.
Yeah.
No armrest to keep you in.
Rett's going to be fully gone all over the place right now.
Why not a big leather recliner?
Yeah, there we go.
Some Lent for Rett.
That's what we need.
Cup hold.
You know what I used to do at the old Radio Shack station, Jack?
I sat on a ball.
He did.
He had one of those big yoga balls.
I used to fall asleep because Boom and Pinder were so boring.
Yeah.
Wow.
Also, it was very early.
That too.
Like a yoga ball?
Yeah.
Oh, they used to let us do that at school.
Boom and I have been accused a lot of things.
I don't know boring has ever been one.
Oh, that stinks.
Some of those interviews.
Moronic.
I would start scanning Wyoming farmland.
That is true.
The time we brought Stephen Bronson,
we're like, this is so amazing.
and this guys covered Olympics.
He's got incredible knowledge.
He's written like,
but Redd me like,
you guys are doing great.
Like,
I don't need to ask any questions.
And then you do it.
Rocket Man said,
it doesn't take three guys to run an interview.
That's right.
That's fair.
You kept staying around.
So I just should have gone and got us coffees,
you ass hats.
How many breakfasts?
You brought a lot of breakfast.
I love.
What time would you guys have to get up to do that show?
Boom would be the earliest.
He's usually wheeling like shortly after four.
So he was probably 3.30.
She was probably 3.
30.
She didn't sleaze.
That's brutal.
Oh, it's awful.
Yeah.
How do you survive on doing that?
It's a miserable human.
My first alarm would be around like 415, 420.
I tried to be in by 445 and they'd reel it in like 10 minutes for the show.
Wow.
I used to start at 7.
Then it was 640.
It's your time's moved around.
But yeah.
The thing about Red is he played in the NHL, Bobby.
I don't know if you knew that.
I've heard.
So he has a lot of experiences that he can relay that are just in his brain.
And Boomer and I, I don't know if you knew this.
We didn't play in the NHL.
Really?
So we have to prepare a lot for a show because we can't just.
be like, oh, I played with Peter
Socori here and he did this thing on his back
and I don't know that shit. Retno's that. You got NHL
bloodlines though, do you not? That's
a long way away. Yeah.
That's like saying my great grandma was a
soon-suitary on. How come we haven't introduced them?
I don't know. Like, that's a long
time ago, man. He's got stories.
He does some good stories. How many are great
story? Yeah, he ruined with Bobby Hall on the road
is a pretty year. That's a lot of stories there.
We got Kirsh on and we're not
talking. That seems more
pertinent today, but you know what
it is. You go to these old-timer
hockey events. That's when you can really get the stories
going to die out. Well, they're going to die.
No, I just mean the storytellers, because who's
going to tell these stories? The kids that are playing
Yeah, that's it. Farm simulator or PS5?
Oh, my kids kill it.
Is he farming? He had one hell of a haystam. Farmville?
So he's great back in the day.
So your son's like doing computer
game farming and Carson Carl's
is actually a farm and those two guys
are about the same age, right?
That's awesome.
What are we talking?
Here's Connie yesterday on QR 77,
the new rights holders for the flames
with Jock Wilson.
This has got to be really exciting for that
station. They've been a stance rights holder forever.
They've not had NHL rights
in, you know, basically
your lifetime, Bobby. And for their
staff, a chance to chat with the general manager
yesterday. We had a bit of a bomb show.
Yeah, you know what? He's really,
doing well in the gym. I think this is a major surgery. So he has had a little bit of a setback
maybe two weeks ago with the skating. But we think, you know, with that, we just want to make
sure we do the right thing for him. And if it is to take a little bit more time and have him 100%
feeling good about the hip, you know, that's what we're going to do. But, you know, in the gym,
everything else is real positive. It's just we want to make sure when he's on the ice and taking
that physical contact that he's ready. But, you know, that's going to do. But, you know, in the gym, you know,
It's coming and, you know, it's still on his schedule.
We know we're not going to rush him into something,
but, you know, we feel at the beginning of the year he's going to be pretty close.
It's just when we're not 100% sure yet.
Okay.
That's Jonathan Hubert.
That's what he's now a politician?
He doesn't even give a real answer or yes and no and maybe.
Well, I think what we know is, well, and look, you've got to play the game of it as a GM.
You're not going to be like, here's our exact timeline.
Here's our concerns.
He'll be playing.
You got to play cards a bit.
You've got to play cards a bit.
Well, that surgery is so major that they probably truly do not know when exactly he's going to be 100% healthy.
Like, it could be one or it could be three weeks from game one or it could be a month after game one.
Like, we just don't know.
They used the word setback, which means they had a timeline and now it's changed.
Like, that's fact, right?
That's what a setback is.
It is a rather simple surgery for normal humans, but to go out and play a contact sport, like playing in the NHL, that's a different beast.
And it was kind of the same thing when we heard about the Jack Eichael surgery.
They tried to tell me I could do a resurfacing or replace them on my shoulder when I was playing and then go and play.
And I said, whoa, this has done that?
This happened a lot?
Yeah.
No, never.
You're going to be our test balloon, retro.
No.
That was the case for Jack Eichael, though.
That worked out pretty well for him.
I ended up winning the Stanley.
I think his had a little more science behind it.
That surgery was very simple, much easier than the alternative, the alternatives.
It's rather than fuse vertebrae together.
You put a synthetic disc in there,
which removes stress off the nerves, blah, blah, blah.
A bunch of rugby players, MMA players went through.
Yeah, exactly.
And they came back and had good careers.
And Bobby did this.
I think I've sent Jack the graphic.
There's been some players in the NHL that have gone through hip resurfacing.
At the same age.
So here's...
Hubbardos 33.
This is great work from the NHL Network.
Thanks, guys.
Eddie, my boy.
So Baxterm at age 34, played 47 more games.
Jovanoski at 36, 37 more games.
Carl Hagelin never played again.
Ryan Kessler, never played again.
He can't go play again.
Patty Kane has played a tonne since.
John Klingberg's in there too.
So the two most recent examples, both players have come back
and have been able to reestablish themselves in the NHL.
Right.
But with Patrick Kane, he's one of the greatest offensive players of his generation.
He's got one of the best set of hands, playmaking, all that.
you know, Hubert O doesn't have that right now
based off of his last four years in Calgary.
So that's kind of a bit of a concern.
Like the whole playmaking piece is kind of supposed to be
his bread and butter.
Yeah, I think he doesn't have it.
He can be himself is the question because look,
like there isn't like, oh, these types of players survive it
while these don't.
Like Baxter's a high skill distributor didn't work.
And again, at this is the age where even guys
without hip resurfacing just disappear from the lead.
You were gone before this age.
And we've taken cheap shots, which we do all the time
at different guys.
And mostly it's supposed to be funny.
At what point do you as an individual, like I did, I'm like, no effing way.
I'm not going to be a guinea pig and put the rest of my days on this earth at risk.
Like that, there has to be some consideration.
There does.
I don't think this surgery is that scary for that.
But I think what it does mean is when I am getting into contact, I better know I'm ready, not think I'm ready.
So maybe it's Christmas, maybe it's October 15.
We don't know.
I had heard whispers last year, and we've said it consistently for six months.
We don't know when he's back.
They're hopeful he'll be back at the beginning of camp,
but until you've got new hips, you don't know how the new hips go.
And the flames are in a position right now where they don't necessarily need to have them in the lineup night one.
Like I said,
I would rather have them wait a couple months and make sure that he is like truly 100% ready
and able to come back and start to rebuild that value and kind of rebuild his confidence.
At least try. Yeah.
I mean, he's a guy that is a top nine player.
He's not what he was, but he's still a guy that is theoretically there to create offense.
He's going to be on a power play unit.
I have no one.
Just argue both sides.
Jack, if we went back and played that, did he just argue that it's easy, it's fine,
he should be able to come back and then he...
Let me just finish the point here, because I'm not sure that I've finished my point.
I would rather see you preach ultra-patience and get those top nine reps for Hansickson and Zerri on the left side.
Absolutely.
Like, I just...
I would preach, I would...
I would preach, stay in the stands forever.
If I said this last week,
if you're running the organization,
unless you're very hopeful that he can come back and reestablish
some sort of return value.
Yeah.
Why am I putting him on instead of a kid?
Well, yeah, I'm totally with you.
Especially like, look, if you're a contender,
like we got to squeeze the last drop out of humor.
You're not.
This is a lost year in terms of the standards.
He's not going to be there.
It's the same as Bagley.
He ain't going to be there.
there when you guys are no position to compete but the problem is is that you can want that as
kronor but if i'm jonathan huberto i'm like i'm ready to go i'm healthy like i have to get back in now
it's like okay well we can't just roba island you yet you've got a half decade left on your deal
you can still sit them i don't care if you're healthy you can't if i'm cutthroat and running the
organization the way it should be it's hard because you don't want to be a place where nobody
wants to go is slippery there you also like you're like you
You desperately need to rebuild his value.
No, you don't.
I think that's such a long shot, Bobby.
No, but hear me out.
No, just hear me out.
In three or four years from now,
when he has three and two years left on his contract,
that's when this team is going to start to get out of this rebuild
and start to really flourish.
And they're going to have guys like Ethan Wittenbach,
Cole Reshny, Zane Perrek,
all these types of players are going to need new contracts.
You need to get that money off the books
within the next three or four years.
Even if you eat some of it,
Like if you eat half of it and you get back $5 million in cash space,
I think that's important.
It doesn't hurt, but I mean, I don't think you or us or anyone knows what the cap's going to be in three, four years.
It might be so high that $5,000, $10 million, whatever.
$140 million, we're missing five, whatever.
But with all the young players that are coming up here and you're assuming they'll make it.
We're seeing a lot of these guys come out of entry level make a ton of money.
Who are they committed?
You need to have as much cap space.
Just wait, though.
Who are the young guys you speak of that are making a ton of money?
Zane Perak potentially, Ethan Winnbach potentially,
Cole Retchney, whoever they draft in this upcoming draft, Carson Carl.
No, no, no, no, these are potential things.
They are, and that's what I'm talking about.
This is a hypothetical.
You have to base it on something that's happened.
So what are you basing?
Who are you comparing Zane Perak and Wittenbach to?
Well, you don't have a comparison right now, but if they, you know, hit their ceilings
and they hit the projections that you have for them,
they're not a $20 million dollar gun.
But you never know.
What if Wittenbach in his contract year is a point per game player?
What if Reschney is a 60 point guy playing center?
What if Perrette is a 70 point defense?
You just don't know.
These are best case scenarios.
They are.
But I think you're talking about it like it's a necessity.
And I think...
I don't think it's a necessity.
I just...
So here me out.
I think it's something that they should seriously consider.
The most likely outcome is that they're not in a cap pinching three or four years, even with Jonathan Huberdow.
And the other likely outcome is that if hips are bad now, in three, four years,
you might be a prime candidate for LTI.
That's my problem.
You don't have to worry about playing the piss out of Huberto to get value back.
It would be helpful if you looked like a top nine NHL that could contribute.
And that's all I'm helpful if the cap grows.
But to state it is a necessity is just wrong.
But I'm not saying it's a necessity.
They have to build up value.
That's stating I said, I think they do need to.
I want them to.
Yeah.
I want them to get back to that 60 point level.
My opinion is different.
I'd rather find out if Wittonbach is good.
And I'm not going to find out if I'm trying to build up Huberto.
And if I have to.
pay for a ticket to go watch a guy.
Who'd you rather see?
Right? But it's not, it's not just Hubert O versus Wittenbach.
I mean, you can move out a Sharon Goet, which you can move out of Farab.
You can move out some of these guys.
How are you building up with, Hubert O's stock?
Who are you playing them with?
Who are you playing them with?
You have to play them at the top of the lineup.
Why am I got a kid like Wittenbach then pushed down the line back?
And that's if Wittenbach can even keep up.
We don't need to go to the prospects yet because they already have three really
intriguing young players that you want to see develop on the left side that shouldn't
be on the fourth line.
And that's Gridden and that's Hansick and that's Zerry.
Like I don't want this guy in the lineup until his agent's calling me to Rett's point.
But I also don't think you can just put a guy on ice with five years left on his deal.
Because I just think when you're in free agency in the summer, that guy's agent represents 30 other guys.
He's like, yeah, he effed me on Uberto.
I'm not like there's middle ground, right?
You have to give him the chance.
Peter, speak to me.
They call me the, because I'm going to punch someone in a.
head. What are you talking about?
Connery didn't sign that stupid
deal. Correct. So how is the agent
Gallant and Conroyd? The agent's not about it with the deal. The agent's
here's how Connie treated. How did Connery screw you?
Well, you're not putting up points. You're not living up to your end of the bargain.
No, you're talking about pretty easy argument. You're talking about not playing him again.
You're saying shut them down right now. Career is over.
Sure. That's going to piss off an agent. I don't care.
Okay. Well, but that has repercussions.
It's not to be all end all, but all.
saying is that that might not be the vibe the team wants when we're in the lost couple years
anyone. How about somebody call the agent and say, hey agent, Mr. Agent Man. Is there a song that
sounds like that? Yeah, Super Agent Man. Yeah. Agent, yeah, he'll call the agent and call the player
and say, hey, guess what? It's real hard to go to bat for you right now when you're shitty.
If you play better, I can maybe call and maybe do. Now, we're making it sound like he's not even an
NHL player. He's still an NHL player. He's still kind of a middle six caliber
player. He was unnoticeable last year. I'm not saying he was good last year. He's a peripheral
middle six winger that makes twice as much money as he said. If he was making 5.25.25
but it wouldn't be a problem. If he was on pace to put up 15 or 20 points next year,
then yeah, I think this conversation might be legit. But like he's still an NHL player.
Walk us through his totals last year. We'll put you on a spot. Yeah, 25 points and 50 games. He was on pace
for half a point per game last year, which would be close to career lows.
And you look at his time in Calgary, it's 55, 52, 62, and on pace for 41 last year.
So still a middle six winger.
You know, it's not sexy.
It's not sexy.
It's not a shitty team.
If that's your middle six, you're screwed.
I just know, you can't help you spare him and end his career right at this point.
If you go.
It's just not realistic.
It's just not going to happen.
So the conversation you just had were pretend to be the agent where you're calling you,
you're talking to the agent.
You're saying he's playing poorly.
he's put me in a bad spot.
You have to allow him to fail
and then you can shut them down.
I think that's probably, it's minutiae
but to shut them down now
and not even let him try with new hips,
I think that's,
why not just put them out there
and see what it looks like?
If it sucks, yeah,
we got to prioritize kids.
You know what you guys are?
You're like the kids trying out for teams nowadays.
It's patty cakes.
We're soft.
Patty cake,
Patty cake,
Baker, man.
Tough enough.
Well,
but there's a serious chance
that he does not come back
from this injury. I mean, we looked at the list of players
before that. The thing that I have a big
concern about is his skating. He's 33.
And he's never been a good
skater. He's always had to rely on
his brain and his hands and his
playmaking are starting to go. Like they're almost
to the point where it's non-existent. Now, you
have him coming off the hip surgery. Maybe he's
not even as good as skaters he wasn't past. That's a lot
of hockey games already. That's concerning.
It is. He's going to hit a thousand, I think,
unless he's shut him. I don't think he's just, you can't
just shut him down for the rest of it.
You don't know what you talk about.
You can do whatever you want.
I run the team.
I'll do what I want.
Thank you very much.
You're okay to come in here and boss me around and take the 10 and a half,
but now you're going to tell me how I,
why don't we just hand it over to the guys,
you guys in the room run this shit.
You make you good point.
Connie didn't sign this deal.
It's not like this is something he has to salvage to save face.
No, not at all.
But it is,
you want to see if it looks any different.
I want him to get a thousand.
Is it better?
Is it worse?
Is it the same?
I'm expecting it to be the same.
I think there's a very low risk of him never playing again.
You said it's a serious concern.
I think it's an incredibly minor one.
And honestly, the best case scenario would be if this was a much more challenging surgery
because then you could just park it on LTIR and these cap worries you have for three, four years,
which may not be imaginary.
They can't be a problem.
What's your percentage that he doesn't play in again?
I think he'll play again, but like get back to being the player he was before the injury.
I'm saying.
No, I'm talking like in Calgary, that 50 point guy.
I'm telling you.
I'm talking about.
question I'm asking. I'm asking you, what percentage out of 100 do you think he won't play at all?
Less than five. One.
Retro?
He'll play again. It just might not be very good.
Yeah, well, and he hasn't really been very good. I mean, he's soft. He's huge, but you don't see it.
He's invisible. He's a half point per game player that doesn't defend particularly well who is
supposed to be creating offense, and he isn't really doing that. But maybe it was the hip.
Well, that's why you have to let him try it.
Well, in his year-end press conference, they'd ask,
how long has this hip injury, you know,
been making you play at this level?
And he had joked and said, oh, it's been happening for three years.
Then he kind of laughed and everyone laughed and they didn't know what's going to address this sooner.
If that's the case.
If that's the case, exactly.
But this actually might have been hurting him the last three years.
We don't really know.
It's also like Rett could probably speak to this.
The injury is not binary, like have or not.
There'd be degrees of it.
And it keeps getting worse and worse and worse.
And finally you reach a threshold.
We're like, okay, we got to address this.
Keena comes in and says, you're horseshit.
I'm not going to play anymore.
Is that your shoulders or?
Yep.
That's what I'm saying.
Sorry.
It happens.
It does.
But we'll have to see him suck before that happens is my guess.
Yeah.
Which is fine.
He's been close to that.
Yeah.
Especially last year.
Last year was tough to work.
And I just, I just hate him in this lineup because I want to see what a last chance to
stay in the NHL Maxim Simplikov can do on the left side.
I want to see Zeri get a chance to be a good winger with talent around him.
I want to see Hansick on a back line.
I want to see Gridden up top with Frost and Coronado.
I don't want,
he would only hear of those lines.
And he certainly isn't a fourth line left way or no.
Is he part of the culture?
The way you hear people talk about it.
I have no idea.
Maybe he's awesome.
I find it hard to believe,
but I continue to hear that that is the case.
And whether that's just public facing polite stuff or not, I don't know.
And he's wearing a letter,
teammates have nothing but great things to say about
and the coaching staff is nothing great. I don't put any stock
into public comments from. Yeah, exactly.
So the answer is we don't know because we're not in the room.
We don't know we're not in the room. He might be the nicest guy
ever that's super positive, but when a game gets
tough guys look down the bench, but like, well, that guy's not
very going to scross the finish line.
Or maybe it's like, man, I feel this
guy works so hard, I see him going.
His bodies quit on him. I feel so bad for him. Like, we don't
know. We're not there. All can be true.
Yeah. The other thing with the lineup, though, is that you could end up
moving a guy like Farabee to open up for the
for the young guy is like, like,
Like it doesn't necessarily have to be
He's living in the way.
Maybe they think he's going to pop.
Well, then move someone else.
No, no, no, no.
I mean pop and then move them for even more.
Yeah, yeah.
I think there's a lot of that going on.
I think they like what they saw.
Like to me, they still wanted,
when you would take a second for Zeri,
your hierarchy in the whiteboards
in the management team is like,
he's been passed by a lot of guys
and there's more guys coming that will pass him
and we need to open up another spot.
Because if it's opening day today,
I don't know that pospals in the lineup.
If he was healthy, I don't want him in the lineup.
There's just too many wingers still.
There's too many wingers.
Like, I don't think Marty Pospisle is a good center.
No, I think he's best on the wing.
I think Conner's area's got a better chance of success on the wing that is center ice.
It's an easier position to play and he doesn't have as much responsibility.
He can go be creative and offensive and use his skill rather than worry about,
ah, I got to come back and help the D here.
Like, those are guys that want in the wing.
And so what you're left with is you have three NHL centers and way too many wingers still with Hubert O.
And I look at Farabee and Sharon Govich.
Like, Clark is not on.
Or Cock is there, but, uh, Pospels is, uh, like he's not going to play if he, if he,
yeah, there's a winger.
Move Farabee.
Why do it.
He's got, got two years left on his deal.
Maybe eat a little bit of salary if you have to.
And it's, like if it's, if it's Diet Coleman, what does that mean?
Is he worth a third?
Maybe.
You'd be okay with that probably.
But the, but the problem's up that spot.
Yeah.
Like, I, I still think they need to move to a winger and I think they will this year.
Yeah.
ideally it would be Sharon Govich, in my opinion.
If you could somehow move off of him
without eating money, that would be ideal.
And with the cap going up the way it is, like maybe
there's a team out there that would take a chance on him.
So go play GM for another team. Is it still ideal
to get Sharon Govich or you eyeballing someone else?
Probably I'd be eyeballing fairbiz.
Fairby is a better too. Or if you see
something from Zeri in the first half. Okay,
pounds. You want it to the second? Here's a second plus.
Yeah. You think he's going to be. But you're not attached on
Huberto with a 10-foot pole. No. If you're a GM, not even close.
Married to him.
Yeah.
Just if he's going out.
When does he go on LTIAR seems to be my best guess at how this ends.
He's in three years.
He's in two years.
I mean,
the track record,
the list that we just showed,
I mean,
it's ugly.
Oh,
he's old.
Yeah.
And he's 33.
He's the same age as the guys on that list.
Yeah.
We have another Connie Club.
Do you want to play that,
Jacko?
This is what you want to hear as a Flames fan,
but it's also not profound and it's whatever rebuilding team says.
You literally told me that,
and then he said,
don't bother getting it.
I definitely said,
Bobby will love that.
Let's get it.
But it doesn't matter.
We don't need it.
I have the quote.
If you want the quote.
Again, it's not profound.
It's what you say when you're rebuilding and your team's not going to be great and you have a ton of young players.
Yeah.
So he just said, I want to see growth from these young guys.
They're going to be put in situations and given opportunities that they wouldn't get on a lot of teams.
And now they're going to have to take advantage of it.
But it was just the part of the quote where he says they're going to be put in situations and given opportunities.
That's the thing that I think should excite flames fans.
To me that says, Nemich is going to be probably a top pair guy.
Griden's going to be a first line guy.
Hans is going to get a chance in the top nine.
I think that's kind of what per X going to play right in the Huska's office and read them the riot act.
It also means they don't have legitimate options at those spots other than the young guys.
And you want them like it been flip that quote entirely upside down and listen to how absurd it sounds.
Like read the quote again and I'll stop every sentence.
I want to see growth from these young guys.
I don't want to see the young guys grow.
They keep going.
They're going to be put in situations and given opportunities that they wouldn't get on a lot of teams.
I don't want to give these young guys opportunities when we're really bad.
Keep going.
Like, of course you say these things.
It's obvious.
Yep, but obvious?
Don Maloney wasn't saying these things last year.
Yeah, but Don Maloney should never talk in front of a camera.
I'm sure he's fine at his job.
He, talking into that camera, it looked like he was a deer in the headlights.
I think they were still confused as to what happened the year before when they played well,
and Don and the crew were trying to sell the boss that they were trying to be one point better at the time,
but now it's clear that that's not the objective right now.
And I've not entirely on that page.
I think Don Maloney was putting on a brave face and isn't good at media.
And all those things can be true.
I think ownership was telling him basically what to say.
I think the goals from ownership was, hey,
can continue to get younger but still push to be competitive with some veterans.
And that's kind of what he said in that.
Behind those doors, I think they had a very real understanding that it was probably going to be a tough year.
Even at that time?
I mean, I don't have a horrible start.
I sat down with people in the organization last summer and they're like, look,
last year was kind of crazy, 96 points, a tie break away.
But we're also very realistic that like, that's probably, as Rhett would say, lightning in a bucket.
Does that come from ownership and Don Maloney?
I love that you're acting like you went out for a big dinner with the...
No, I literally had coffee.
He ran into a guy drunk at Mercadoes.
No, but they knew that the most likely outcome was they were going to stink.
They knew that.
But they also were like, we can't really tear apart this locker room that believed so much
that went way beyond where they should have gone with their skill
and lost it on the players in the tiebreak.
So we have to let them have the chance to represent.
repeat it, but we understand it's very unlikely to have.
It's all worked out just.
It's perfect.
It has.
Yeah.
Like if they had a hot October.
And even Carol's getting it.
It still was because I,
I guess three months ago I said, well,
shit, you should have taken a bullet earlier and dropped in it or get a higher
draft pick.
Right.
They still got Carls.
I feel like he could have been number one.
Yeah.
We were talking about they probably take him at three or four anyway if they're picking three or four.
They got the guy they want it.
So.
Look, it's a rebuild.
This are the things that we're going to hear.
We got here.
That's all that matters.
Don't text in saying you guys are cheap shot and they go.
No.
We got to think three years out.
This is what we talked about when they had the good season.
It's like, this is all fine and good.
But, and I even had the argument, Bob, I argued that fine.
If you're good, then go for it.
Yeah, go only.
Show me, you're good.
Push your chips.
In October or November, I was saying that I'm fine.
Then trade a pick and bring in another score because you don't have enough scoring to
Oh, how fuck, did you be right now?
I'm like, I don't know about that.
Yeah, but my point was only,
choose a path.
Go get it.
Yeah.
And again, we had all for the bulk of the last four years,
basically since it didn't work under shutter,
you're like, this thing has to be torn out.
And it should have been torn down that 23, 24 season.
Ryan Huska's first year, Craig Conroy's first year.
And yes, they traded a ton of guys,
but I'm saying it could have even been more than that.
Yeah, maybe.
I mean, look, you had a different offer on the table
for Mathikichuk that involved much younger players.
There was a fork on the road there as well.
It was Nemachetta, Carolina and some other pieces versus, you know, the older guys that were,
you knew their ceilings because they'd already had them.
Hubert was never going to have 115 points again.
And Uyghur, who was on a top pair and came and scored 20 goals here one year.
Those were very well established older guys, and they chose that versus the younger package
that would essentially reset you a bit, which in hindsight say was a mistake.
Fleece, of course you might say.
Well, the deal wasn't the fleece.
the signings are what killed.
So your point,
Red, if you brought Hubert O in
and did not sign them before you saw him on the ice,
you saw how he messed in with the group,
you know,
you're going to move to McChristmas.
Daryl's going to play in north-south,
not east-west,
like,
okay,
this isn't a fit.
We can still salvage some value
and not burn,
you know,
$80 million.
You've been able to sell Huberto
for a first of that scenario.
Who knows,
right?
You'd just say,
look,
it wasn't a fit,
we're going to move off them.
Yeah.
Now, the flip side of it is if
Huberto was the 150-point player.
Shit,
the price is going up.
We missed our chance on half.
Oh, going up from where?
10 and a half.
At that time, go back.
No, no, not the way he played.
But if he did another 150 point,
I'm telling you right now, even if he put up 115,
which was the best ever by a left winger in
NHL history.
So likelihood of that zero.
Yeah.
And so say he had 100.
He's going to make how much more than 10 and a half?
But prior to join the flames, he averaged about 85 to 90 points a year
for the last four years up until the 150 points.
My point is that even if he had another great year,
it wasn't going to go for,
it wasn't going from 10 and a half to 17 at that point.
No, no, of course not.
It might have just been 11 or whatever.
But that's a good point.
And again,
it feels like we're taking runs at Huberto.
The whole thing with Huberto is that you brought a guy in
to be a point per game plus player and he's never looked even close to it.
And I'm sure he's trying to be that guy.
And I'm sure there's been better fits elsewhere.
And I'm sure it wasn't he's moving the other side of the world.
But that's why this whole thing sucks is because he was brought in to be Johnny's
replacement and he's been nothing close to it.
You know what? Get the tape on that exit
interview last year.
I might have to call McLeod Law.
Oh, shoot. What's going on?
We've been.
They sold us a broken down
jalopy.
If he signed that,
when did he sign three years ago?
Yeah, 2022.
And he had a bad hip?
He might have.
Four years ago.
Florida know about this?
But they did.
No, I bet that wasn't an issue.
When he put up.
Call the cloud.
Well, Jack.
Get them on the line.
If you put up 115 points of the bad hip, I'm very impressed.
I'm not sure that's what went down.
Why, they sell him then if he's so good.
I'll tell you why they sold him, because I think they won the President's trophy with him.
You can't even go along with just a little joke.
Well, hey, you're just a, you really want to be argumentative.
You want to tell Bob how it is.
Bobby, come bow at the base of the mountain and I'll read you the commandments, all right?
I'll tell you.
I'll tell you how it works.
Well, let's switch gears, shall we?
Bobby's going to be our guest today for our great friends at Crystal Waters, plumbing and heating.
It's the perfect time to make a purchase there because you're going to get deals on air conditioner.
They're blowing them out deals at the end of the summer, right?
And then it's also like, hey, you haven't got into the crazy paints where everyone's furnace.
Didn't start.
Get ahead of that.
Maybe you get them both at the same time.
You got one worker there doing them both.
Efficiencies, baby.
Do that with Crystal Waters for sure.
Here's where you go.
And what you need to know, they've been celebrating 25 years.
in Calgary over 40,000 jobs in Calgarians homes.
And they've got all kinds of solutions for budgets,
financing, affordable payment plans.
They're your clear choice for home comfort, crystal clear Calgary.com.
587, 3171551.
Boomer Jr's our guest today.
Almost feels like a make-a-wish situation.
I don't know what the hell I'm doing here,
but I appreciate you guys having me.
I like her.
This is the best day of my life.
I like, this is a dream come true.
It's like, I'm going to miss that Bobby kid when he dies next week.
Oh, God.
I just wanted me on my shades.
This is so hot.
It is a hot.
It's literally going to be out of there.
I'm dying.
Turn on the AC, Jack.
Turn it on this thing into a bathhouse at night, Jack?
I need a bath.
Get that thing down to 17.
I'm working here.
I want to see my breath.
Are you going to go change the tent?
Yeah.
This is out of control.
Like, I mean they're taking the hoodie off where we're putting the AC.
Let's go.
Crystal Waters.
They were in charge.
It's wouldn't be happening.
Jack's cranking up the heat, stretching out.
I'm not touching not.
Just breaking down Steelers tape at night here in his eitherware.
Come on.
Come on.
Okay.
Why don't we do?
It's a lot of flames.
We need a pause on that.
A little pender part here.
Good idea?
Sure.
Pender apart, we're doing for Villageonda.
They are your dealership for life since 1987 in Calry.
Located under the huge Canadian flag in the Northwest Automall Villageonda.com.
For more information.
lots of used inventory and access to even more with their dealer group.
I like this one, but I wanted it with the center.
Yeah, we got them.
Sorry, out.
Come on in, have a seat.
Benefit of the dealership.
Got you taken care of there.
We start with, come on in, Rhett.
We've been talking about the flames of prospects,
and their systems rank this, and the prospects are ranked at,
and the draft classes are this.
You know what we're not talking about?
What's that?
The actual roster.
What's wrong with the actual roster?
Well, have you heard the last half hour of us?
The athletic released their player tiers in top 150 players.
Don't Jack, play along here.
The zeros are going to be the side conversations.
We're going to start numbers now, thank you.
So the athletic top 150 players is released today.
These are the player tiers as an example of where guys are.
Your ones are your stars.
They're even tiered in there.
Your twos are your phenomenal players, perennial all-stars.
your threes are like very...
How is Kail McCar not in Tier 1A?
The best defenseman on the planet.
How is Brady Kachuk in Tier 3C?
Well, there's five tiers. There's 150 players.
You can read up on how these...
Oh, so there's more than...
Yeah, there's 150 players.
Now, they're just showing you samples of each layer.
There's lots of good players, obviously.
Not many on the flames.
Out of the 150, if you're going to average out,
it's called a 30-team league, how many players do you have per team?
Five.
Good math.
Thank you.
That would take it.
I'm smart.
I'm learning.
Um, the flames have won.
Oh, wait.
Now here's a game to play, right?
You're going to play that game?
Are you going to ask?
I told him it's a hard game, but I think he knows the answer, but you can play the game.
I don't know who it is.
I would have a hard time.
Was it the goalie?
It's got to be wolf.
It's the goalie.
Who, and he's questionable at best.
Questionable at best.
I think he's got to pick it up.
Dog shirt environment.
I'm not joking.
You guys are looking at me like I'm Mr. Pouty pants.
Well, let's, let's revisit this list in four or five years.
maybe there'll be three or four of Calgary Flames.
Well, you know, who knows? You hope so.
What you want is to see the prospects?
Landon and DuPont.
What's with you down the road?
God forbid, God forbid I be positive about this team and try to have some fun.
All down the road, Bob.
Interject some positivity at this organization.
God forbid I do something like that.
My goodness.
Living in a cave.
Shut down.
This is what it's like for Boomer.
You just sit and watch, I guess.
That's kind of fun.
I want DuPont and Schultz.
Absolutely.
Why not?
And they could be on that list four or five years from now.
Why not?
Or I'll bypass.
Nah, I don't want to say it because it's dad will get man.
Nope.
I'll bypass land and then take Schultz and poo or pew.
There we go.
It's a nice tandem.
The stuff I'm reading, which again, it's a year out and draft class has changed
a ton.
We've seen guys look like locks for top three slide at the end of the first round.
Guys that weren't on list jump into the first round.
but it's DuPont, the Grand Canyon,
and then the second best player in the draft class,
and he's a Russian with lots of term left on a K-Child.
Yeah, and a winger, too.
Yes, two of them.
Does not help.
God, I wish we had more wingers.
That's exactly what we've never been saying.
Boy, the Wranglers are going to have some great wagers.
Oh, yeah.
If these guys get their waivers.
What you really want to see is your prospects turn into 150 players.
Absolutely.
That's what prospects are fun because you can dream on their ceiling.
and you don't know actually where they're going to end up.
Or you could trade them for a guy who's already in that top 150.
Harder to do, but yes.
Those guys come available every now and then.
Well, I mean, yeah, like you give up four huge assets to get Quinn Hughes.
You're getting a real good player.
Yeah.
Yeah.
No question.
But yeah, you want the prospects to turn into good players.
You can trade them for more or they can be stars with you.
Feels better in here already, doesn't it?
Yeah, it actually does.
That's been a huge difference already.
You know, I'm sorry, just a quick update.
Too cold?
The thermostat needs better.
Matters.
Low on batteries.
It's a low battery.
Batters are lower some damned.
Sorry.
Go ahead, Ryan, back to you.
Back to me, guys.
Pinn reports.
So there is one guy in the top 150.
Not great.
That's kind of why you pick high, I guess.
Hey, if you don't have the best players.
But if you want to rebuild, this is what you wanted.
And I didn't pound in the table for a rebuild.
This is more than what this.
This is why you're rebuilt.
Yes, because you had good players, but they weren't stars.
Yeah.
Like, Rast and answering, good player.
Not a, not a real player.
star. We're a good player, not a star. We trade a
wolf to Buffalo to Foley.
There's kids. You're just, you're just,
this is going to be your thing this year. You're going to run
Wolf out. I have to pick on someone. He's
got the target today. Yeah.
Now that you're done with here we're not.
I'm afraid to bring anyone else
up. What's your quota? You hit it?
You get anyone else you want to blast?
Peter. Back up goalie.
I'm going to need some guy. Rabbit is he next?
The crosshairs? Come on.
There's a trade in the NHL yesterday. We'll go to
that. Rabbit guy should stop posting about his
rabbit infatuated.
Did that happen back in your day?
How dare you say that about Tito Cooley?
Don't shit talk
Tito Cooley. All right? Come on.
This is not shit talking anything.
I dot on social media, so I don't see it.
I was informed of it.
That's embarrassing.
This is a generational thing because Bobby
loves it and Rett's like, I can think nothing
of more cringe than an NHL
pro athlete posting about a rabbit.
And the rabbit has his own stroller,
Rhett. I don't know if you knew that.
They take him out for walks.
They can start a reality show
and you can watch it.
It his own segment on the chase or something like that.
That would be sweet.
Might be a problem with society if this is what.
We always do goalies who are a little different.
I'm going to let it slide for now.
But we're aware of it.
I don't know how much more of it.
I'm buying you a pet rabbit.
You're going to fall in love this thing.
I don't have to talk about a stupid rabbit.
Stop the puck.
Career year.
But every disaster you can keep doing it.
That's great.
Trade in the NHL yesterday.
Luke Evangelista is off to Jersey.
He's a little player.
regrets. Not a center.
I think at one point they wanted them to be the center.
He's not. What, 59 points last year, Jack?
Is that what you had said?
Yeah, I got his card one sec.
It's a first. This is the pick that the flame said to Jersey for Nemech that they got for Cadry.
That is correct.
And that pick also is committed to themselves if their bottom 10, which they won't be because they just locked up Camelcar and Nathan McKinnon and all the other goods.
Also a second rounder as well. A first and a second, not.
this summer another one away
so two drafts away but a
first and a second for a guy that doesn't make
a ton of money and they're thinking
it's on the upswing and when you look at the numbers
it does look like he's on the upswing a bit
not huge numbers on an offensively
challenged national team he'll get to play in the top
six with the likes of Jack Hughes
Nico Hescher Dawson Mercer
what does that look like playing with Jack Hughes
could he be 65 could he push
70 potentially sure playing with a guy
like him and don't forget about a guy like Jesper Bratt
He's also an incredible offensive player.
No, what does it look like if he gets beaten out by other wingers for that job?
Probably similar.
But yeah, I think they're betting on him being an impactful top six right winger.
What that costs them is quite a bit, a first and a second.
They must have lots of them.
They do have a few.
They still have two this year.
I still think they're, well, isn't it an, aren't they rated like the betting, that 365?
Aren't they surprisingly?
They've been perennially overrated.
Yeah.
Every year they're in the top.
I think they've fallen this year.
The marks from trade kind of leaves.
Not that we like that.
They don't have a lot of talent.
They just cannot seem to put it together.
They haven't had the goal tentating.
They've had some injuries.
I don't, like on paper,
I don't mind this group.
No.
He's sure Jack Hughes is one of the better one-two duos down the middle of the ice.
You know, Bratz's a point per game guy.
You bring in, you know, Anthony Mantha and Evangelista.
You got Timelmeyer.
Like, there's a lot of talent there.
Jersey's in at 28 to 1.
They come in behind Montreal, and that puts them at, like, 12th or 13th in the league.
That's after years.
That sounds about right.
Minnesota, I think.
Minnesota.
No, Utah, Utah, sorry, Utah.
That doesn't make sense.
No, Minnesota is much higher.
They're 14 to 1.
They're half the odds are double the panhand how you look at it.
Big issue is the goal tending.
Jake Allen and Nico Dawes.
Like, for a team.
Jake Allen's been just fine there, but he's also played half the games,
and he's not going to be a 60-game work course.
Exactly.
So they're a team that's been floated out for Connor Hellman.
Yes.
And they got two firsts this year.
This is a team.
They're built to start winning playoff series.
Like a lot of their best players are in their primes.
If they can stay healthy and they get a goalie, I think that they could win a round or two.
If you get the Fs, sure.
He's going to argue.
Well, I mean, look, have they won any playoffs rounds last two years?
I think they did three years ago.
But like we talked about earlier, I mean, I think it's been injuries in gold-taining that have really held them back.
I mean, Jack Hughes has barely played the last couple years.
Where are we put them in the metro?
maybe second behind Carolina.
Okay.
That seems like a ceiling.
I think Carolina's a clear one.
Yeah.
But I kind of,
I like the Metro's not very good.
No, it's not.
You know, like Pittsburgh,
sorry, Jack,
Pittsburgh's not a great team.
I think a lot of things went right for them last year.
Agreed.
Yeah.
You know, Washington's good.
You know, Columbus,
super mid, Philadelphia.
They're on the rise,
but I don't think they're quite there yet.
Yeah.
It's there for them.
Yeah, it totally is.
They need the Fs, as you stated.
Yeah.
Like, oh, just everybody.
Just go get the good goal,
even.
Okay.
Well, and health.
I think actually,
I think health is the biggest one.
If you get 84 games on a Jack Hughes,
he could be a hundred point player.
And that could be the difference.
Sure.
Yeah.
You don't love the coach there, do you?
Keith.
He's done nothing good with anyone.
I feel like the rep has always been quite sterling.
And then you look at the truck.
You know what it is?
It's a Toronto rep because he worked for the frickin Marley.
Oh,
the greatest thing,
sliced bread.
We're in Toronto.
Oh,
yeah,
we're great.
Then he sent that stupid video of him on the lake.
And I love Toronto and the fair.
What are we taught?
They just fired your ass.
Like, move on.
I'm just gone.
They didn't have a bunny in that video.
Ret would have lost.
Anyway, I don't think he's had any success outside of the Marley's, which he had no
playoff success whatsoever.
Like, to your point, Bobby, like, it's time for devils to either start winning or this is
a flawed core.
Yeah.
If I was running that.
Too many good players to be missed the playoffs with three last four years.
I'm going to sneeze, but Jack, so after I say this, cut my camera.
It's coming fat.
What does Winnipeg want for Halibuck?
I think they're going to need some goal tending,
but not the centerpiece.
So is Alan?
They're going to need players ready to contribute that are team controlled,
not guys that have trade lists that are young,
that'll be good for a while,
and they're going to want firsts.
I think it's a very good young player,
two firsts and a goaler.
I think if you look at that lineup,
what's the thing that they're missing?
I think it's depth up front and depth down the middle of the ice.
And if they could bring in two or three legit NHL Ford,
like top nine NHL forwards, maybe with a goalie in there.
I think that might be something that might be interested in.
I keep thinking about it through the Buffalo lens because I just think it's the best fit
in terms of both teams having what each other want and filling each other's needs.
I think UPL going back is perfect.
We've seen him in a platoon.
He's been very good.
Him and Skinner, that could be fine.
That could be top 10 net mining the league.
Essentially.
Yeah, yeah.
Crazy.
You've seen crazier platoons post better results.
It's two guys that have had success at times in their career.
And one guy gets hot, you're at him.
and one guy.
Who did you say?
Ukapuka?
D.PL?
And then it's like, okay,
Ryan McLeod,
not a terribly sexy player,
but a good player,
good third line.
Josh Norris, maybe.
Josh Norris is due
the injury thing,
bigger contract.
But,
and then it's like,
okay,
you've got Ossland and Merckha
and Halaney,
one of those prospects
in a first?
Is that not,
Winnipeaker?
You ask for more at that point?
What about a guy
like Josh Donne?
I would not get rid of him
in Buffalo?
Not even for Connor Hellibut,
the best goalie in the league,
Hart trophy winner.
There's just so many other assets
that,
I think with less you cannot, you can't dismantle your, I think from don't going there because I was there.
Culture, right?
Exactly.
Yeah.
There he is a part of that.
Now, I talk, he's on a great contract.
Yeah.
I talked to Razor about Bowen Byron when I was there this summer and he's like, he was part of it too.
Right.
We rant.
We kind of lost our mind.
How does he make this much?
Well, I think he's a culture guy as well.
So he's a good player.
I think the only challenge people have with that deal is that he went from.
being a good two three to the high-speed de-man league.
All of a sudden it feels less crazy now that we see.
Anyway, I'm just curious.
I'm going to look at Don't really Christian.
Are the jets in a great position if no, Buffalo or Jersey?
Like Jersey seems like the team that needs it more than Buffalo, no?
Yeah, but it's going to be harder for them to get the pieces to get it done.
That's why, because they don't have the prospect pipeline.
They do two firsts here, but they don't have the assets that Winnipeg is going to want the most.
Unless they're willing to get rid of a guy like Nico Hescher,
but he just signed.
He's got the full number.
But is Dawson Mercer part of that deal?
You know,
those types of players.
If I'm Winnipeg,
I don't want these guys in their mid-20s that are about to get really
picky about where they play and get trade protection and need huge raises.
I want to go find a young stud,
like Hellaneous that we watched at the Worlds.
That can,
I could be here for 10 years.
Yeah.
He was good in the playoffs.
The thing with Winnipeg is.
think Buffalo wants to let that guy go. Sure, but if you've got three guys that you
have in that same esteem, and maybe I'm way off base here, maybe they don't view
Merck could the same way or some of these other young guys, but like they have so many good
young players, that's why I see it's a fit for Winnipeg. Because Winnipeg's not going to win in the
28 to 35 range, because that's where guys get family, you get picky about where they play and
get the trade protection. I could be crazy, but we follow Buffalo more. You seem to know
a lot about Buffalo. Maybe you know just as much about Jersey, but it's, there's systems
just not as flush. They've been picking in the top
10 for 14. Yeah, but you don't need a hundred
guys. You need the right guys.
And if you've got two really good prospects, it's really, really hard
to give them up where if you've got six, you're like, we can do this.
The thing with the Jetsos that their organizational philosophy
has always been, remain as competitive as possible no matter what.
And if they're going to trade Hellebuck, I really see them going after
established NHL players.
Maybe not like the 28 to 35, like you said, but
anyone with 10 to 21 to 25, right?
Well, that's where you've got to find those guys.
I would definitely be holding on to Done more than a prospect that's flashed.
You know what I mean if I'm Buffalo?
Because they're in Winnow mode too.
But if I'm Winnipeg, that's probably who I'm asking for.
I don't think Buffalo would do it, but that's the type of player I think you'd be looking for.
That young guy, cost controlled, could be part of this core for a long time.
I don't think he's a high enough.
I desperately need centers in Winnipeg.
I think Done is an awesome player and I want him on my team, but I don't know if he's.
It's also not a center.
which is their big hole.
Honestly, what the jet should do is blow it up.
This team, they're in the mushy,
they're in the mushy middle.
They're not very good.
They're not going to win a Stanley Cup with this.
Two years left on Morrissey,
Sheifely signed with the intention of continuing to play with Helibug.
Kyle Conner signed to be relevant.
They're in a really difficult spot because they've kind of promised their veterans
that they're going for it here.
And now they're in a spot where the best deals they're going to get
are going to be heavy on futures.
I don't think you're going to get a one C coming back for Helibuck.
Because the teams that want Helibuck aren't.
aren't giving those up.
They're in a win now mode too.
Unless you get those futures,
then you take those and you package them
in another deal for a center.
But we've seen it.
That was like Vancouver moves J.T. Miller takes the first,
flips it for Marcus Patterson.
You can do it, not easy.
Yeah.
But it's another option.
Yeah, fair.
Okay, we're still in the Pender Pounder.
Let's keep moving.
NHL broadcasting notes.
Get ready for a lot of hockey
with the Amazon bug on the screen.
I love Brazil.
This Prime is picking up a lot of regional broadcasts
around the U.S.,
Expanding NHL coverage, they're going to do regional games for the Cains, Ducks, Blue Jackets, Dallas, Stars, Minnesota, Wild, and St. Louis Blues.
That's suddenly a six-pack of teams.
Now, we saw some of the regional sports networks getting insolvent, going to bankruptcy, whatever.
Victory Plus had plugged that hole.
That's done, apparently.
It's been dissolved.
Amazon's picking up the slack.
And I've really liked their Monday games that they had.
And they now moved to Wednesdays this week.
They have the template.
They have relationships with broadcast.
They know how to do hockey games.
They're trying to entertain you.
It's awesome.
You like that, I do.
I think it's important for the people at home that sit on the couch and watch the game to be entertained.
And totally unrelated, news from Sportsnet that they have not got new contracts for Kevin BXA.
And I don't say.
Yeah.
Those guys hold all the leverage.
Well, if they did, you'd think they'd be paid because the TV.
The peers with the leverage always win the negotiation.
And they might end up winning the negotiations.
They might. I think they're going to win.
It's just not going to be with this.
Roger's reputation, the hockey community right now, has really taken a hit over the last
couple years.
And I think Elliot Friedman and Kevin B.X, said they could probably use that to their advantage.
These are their two stars.
Big time.
And they just spent on the average 900 million a year for the next 10 years for NHRA rights in Canada.
There's two ways this goes.
You either say we're investing further into this massive commitment we made to make sure
it's a hit. Or you say, we've got the monopoly. They're going to watch it whoever's on it.
We're not paying for talent anymore. And so whether those guys have a last,
tell you. I don't know. I mean, to compare ratings over the last 20 years.
Or not to compare ratings. Well, that would be. Your entertainment value would. Oh, yeah. Yeah.
They've done a good job of people clamor for the more of the good old days. I think it's a much
more Pablam show than it has been. It used to be a staple of sports broadcasting, not hockey.
that Hockey Night in Canada was this temple where it was like
what a treat it was to listen to all these minds
and incredible personalities talk about the sport.
Even like the satellite hot stove for me is like a young broadcaster
to see Al Strachan, DeHachic, Morganty and Philly.
They'd bring in guys from all over North America
and just talk about trade rumors and stuff like that was an awesome piece
I would never miss.
Elliot's headlines at the intermission are that for me now.
But I just see less and less stuff that I find interesting
or even that engaging, entertaining.
I think BXA has done an amazing job.
Absolute start.
The thing I love what he does
is when he breaks down the X's and O's of the game.
I remember he did a breakdown of a penalty kill
during the playoffs and he was showing like the angle
that the forwards were taking to take away the left side of the net
and let the goalie have the right side.
Holy nerd.
Like stuff like that.
I'm like that's fascinating though because average hockey fans are not in those meetings.
Some people glaze over at that for you that's fascinating.
Yeah.
Beauty will be excellent.
is he had something for everyone.
Yeah, funny, witty.
He could debate.
He could debate.
He would show you some details.
Like, that's the full package on someone in that chair.
And I don't see anyone in their system that's even close to that.
It's going to be a less entertaining broadcast.
I wonder what his interactions with.
Oh, God.
Day over.
Why?
Looking good, boom.
This is penderesque.
What are you guys doing?
What the hell are you doing?
It's Wednesday.
Tuesday, Thursdays, boys.
What are we doing?
It's September, Dino.
Fellas.
Rabbit rabbit yesterday, remember?
Fellas.
We're having, we're up to our ears in nerd talk.
It's September 2nd.
Fellas.
We got weeks.
What are we doing?
I thought we were off today.
We're giving you a hot tub day
because we do how well this conversation we go with you.
Oh my God.
This is cool.
What are you doing in?
there. I was down
grabbing a breakfast with my buddy,
so I just popped in to say hi to Jack.
We're going to drink.
I bet.
How's it going in there? What have you covered?
What have I missed?
Pinder.
You shish.
My take is that Pinder is willing and ready to argue
both sides of every argument. I don't know
if you've ever seen them do that before.
Well, that's, that'd be a new development if that's the case.
Yeah, that'd be breaking news.
He's turning over a new leaf.
Yeah.
It's a new me, guys.
26, 27.
Got young Bobby in with the hot takes.
You're missing out.
It's a great Hubert O talk.
Great Hubert O talk.
There's no such thing.
Not my adjective.
Depressing Hubert O talk might be the more accurate title.
I thought we had that yesterday.
Wasn't that yesterday's show?
Oh, that was scratching the surface.
We've got lists of old people with hip resurfacing that did not go well.
I heard.
I heard.
Yeah.
It's funny.
Just an update.
to cut you off Dean, that's what I do.
These chairs, straight garbage.
Oh, that's, and again, talking about weird developments, Warner complaining, that's new, okay?
Well, when you sit in this chair and lean back and that bar jams into you and breaks your spine and now I need surgery?
It's a spinyotomy.
Yeah.
Oh.
It's so you sit up.
That's, it's, so you're not, there you go.
I'm plugged because I don't want to listen to this.
But between the chairs and the thermostat, you're, you're, you're.
You're lucky or not here today.
The thermostat's got similar to what you're up to.
We're a grizzled bunch.
The chairs don't feel right.
So question here.
Porridge is too cold.
It's tough.
Remember yesterday when we showed that photo of coal rationing and we're like,
is that little chest meat he's got going on there?
Dino, look at the cashmere sweater that's coming in.
This is great.
He shaved for us.
I did.
I took her down.
You took her down for you, boys.
It's the sheep in the summer.
You shear it out all off and then it comes back for the winter.
I'm stretching my hammies out.
We're a little tight, boys.
Boom just needs to add a couple gold chains to the mix,
and he's going to be looking real.
I'd add a couple temple golden loggers, too.
That would be that.
You have anything to add to a conversation,
or you're just interrupting?
Well, I was just, you know,
I was doing my,
doing my work, right?
It's scrolling around on the old internet.
And I see the live photo come up.
Well, I knew Bobby and Piac,
we're going to be in there talking about
Hansik and V-O-2 tests
and all kinds of boring shit.
But then I see Warner in there.
It's like, what is how?
I'll tell you what happened.
I'm not good at secrets.
Uh-oh.
I'm not good at secrets.
So last night at 1115,
I think Jack came down with the case of,
oh, shit, what am I getting myself into tomorrow?
And he texts me and said,
can you please come in tomorrow because these two are going to nerd it up really jack oh yeah really
i'm there for you being a team guy yeah i'm in yeah good for you no i appreciate it no i uh
jack's off the baller so there's no more free beers in stamps game going behind my back yeah i figured
it as much so bobby uh how does it feel in there how's uh how's the mood how's the energy
it's it's very hot in here very hot but the vibes are high
we're feeling good.
There's not a lot of negative energy,
except Rhett and I were screaming at each other for about a minute
over God knows what.
He did the headbox.
I said that.
It was good.
Is this what Boom does?
Rhett threatened to beat my skull in.
I believe that was the direct quote.
He wants to beat my skull in.
So, yeah, it's great.
Really enjoying this.
Oh, spoiler alerts.
And Rhett was not happening.
Yeah, he owns a rabbit.
Are you, if BX and
Elliot aren't.
around or got your phone on.
The new host of 32 thoughts?
You love Toronto.
I do love Toronto.
I'm not sure I could leave, guys, I'm not sure how I could leave this.
I just love you guys so much.
Yeah.
I mean, it's-
Don't leave that hot tub right now.
We don't need any of that.
Please stay still.
Oh, time to.
No.
Just got to crack a bead here.
You know, too much?
No, you know what?
It's like we were talking about with like yesterday.
both BX and Friedman,
do you think they're not going to be there?
Like, where else are you going to go if you're those two?
And if you're the other,
if you're whatever Rogers is doing,
I,
you know,
I shouldn't speak for Rogers.
I don't know what the hell they're doing,
but you can let those guys go?
You're good at letting people go.
At some point,
keep the good,
but again,
it's September 2nd.
There's no time to negotiate a deal.
Yeah.
I would think, though,
that probably BX has got a,
a little bit more in his checking than maybe Friedman.
You know, if the start of the season hits and you've got to dip into the coffee can
a little bit, probably a few more hondoes in there than poor Elliot.
I wonder if Elliot's looking south of the border going.
How could you not?
And the thing would be X is like he's not living in Toronto.
He doesn't have to go work for hockey night.
He can catch direct flights from Los Angeles where I believe he lives to Atlanta and do TNT stuff.
He can go to an ESPN studio.
You can do regional stuff for one of the two teams in Greater L.A.
And ESPN could use the help right now, and their coverage is not ideal.
I do find it interesting, and it sounds like, it sounds cherry picking from where we're sitting,
but still the shock and awe that comes from fans who see media transitioning to digital.
Oh, so they're going off Victory Plus and going to Amazon.
Yeah.
Yes, Netflix, Amazon.
This is not, did it happen in the last six months?
Like shit.
I don't know why everyone's still so, yeah, I don't know why everyone's so stunned that things
are going off of overair broadcast and mainstream to digital.
It's all going to be there eventually anyway.
Yeah, this is just wild speculation.
But I mean, you're saying like, what else is all you're going to do?
I mean, Amazon's got a weekly game in Canada and now six teams are doing regional broadcasts
for that might be a big enough boat to say, let's go cut them a big check.
We got the best insider or not.
I think they're free agents.
Who's spending?
I don't think I'm Elliot or Kevin BXA.
And then I mean, my contract's up soon and I'll be this wait for the offers as well.
That's right.
Amazon.
Now, who's paying the most?
There would be no loyalty to I have to work for hockey night in Canada.
So I mean you're called that anymore.
It's all in the states.
Like in Canada, there truly are no other options.
Like TSN already has LeBron and Drager.
They don't have the national rights.
They're not going there.
It's Amazon.
You could do Amazon in Canada or it's ESPN TNT in states, which is also another potential.
Because I don't think either of those companies have a true insider.
They have, you know, good reporters, but not like an Elliott kind of.
Like Emily Kaplan a bit for ESPN.
Yeah.
It's more hard journalism, less trade stuff.
Anyway, yeah, it's a little disturbing if it's like I thought those are the two best guys on Saturday night.
And I loved watching hockey at Saturday night.
I'd be a little nervous.
But your point, do you know, they might just be signed today?
I've, again, I would, I have no intel on it.
My read would be 95%.
They're both back.
They're just, they're just, you know what it is too is they can use that as leverage.
That's leverage that wasn't there before.
Well, do you want to work for the rights holder?
Do you want to be on hockey night in Canada?
Then here you go.
Whereas now you can be, well, ESPN and, you know, Amazon's dipping a toe and they're
getting more involved in hockey.
Maybe, you know, it might take a year.
But rather than sign a four or a five.
year deal. Maybe I'll just wait it out and see what happens with Prime. So it's a little bit more
just leverage for their side finally. I hope people download this podcast in audio only.
Yeah, we don't need the man soup can camera ever again. I'm looking and it's hard.
God, don't stand up. Don't stand up. No. Oh, God. There's a man cany. There's no way he's
wearing anything. Is that a banana hammock you got on there? Turn the jets on. Yeah.
I'm out of time, boys.
Yeah, I thought so.
Amazon's on the other line.
That's right.
I move.
See you, buddies.
That's a boomer roast right there.
He's just sauteing him.
Throw some butter in there, chop up some carrots.
That's to a nice medium rare.
Oh, baby.
See the turkle on Bobby's eyes?
Like, one day that might be me.
I'm okay with it.
My concern is that he looks very comfortable,
and he might just think,
I can do this from here.
This can be my Wednesday routine.
Why not?
This is not bad.
Get a hot tub sponsor or something like that and then pay for it.
Why not?
Let's keep moving.
Blue Jays continue their series in Cleveland or are they?
Because Jack told me last night, season's over.
I'm with Jack.
Wrap it up.
Don't throw your ace today who's allowed one run in his last six road games.
Shut down the season, forfeit the games and call it a year.
See you next season.
If they win this game,
they'll be one and a half games out of the playoffs
with over 20 games to play.
Now, I will say,
you're going to be an ace.
Tell me,
at any point this year with the Blue Jays,
have you thought to yourself,
this is a team that is going to make the playoffs?
Like, they really haven't given you any reason
to believe that in the last 20 games of the season.
Well, yeah, look at the records here.
The team in a wildcards, two games over.
None of these are good, but one of them will get in.
One of them will.
I just don't know if it did that.
I just don't know if it's a question.
I think that,
no, I've never thought,
like it's better than 50-50, but people writing them off is insane.
They literally probably only have to get to like 83 wins to get in.
What percentage chance would you have it at that they end up?
15 and 5. Probably like 20.
Right. That's what I'm thinking.
Yeah. So 1 in 5 shut down the season?
Well, no, definitely not shut down the season.
Like we see we see the 1 in 5 type odds win championships all the time.
Yeah. Right? Like that 20 to 1 range.
The thing is they just they got to get some hitting going.
Like the power in their lineup is completely gone.
they've made a bunch of moves as well with callups and such
trying to add a little more pop for sure.
They have one player who's on pace to get over 60 RBIs this year,
and it's Okamoto who already has it.
Andreaskin then is on pace for about 59 this year.
Yeah, and he's your nine-hitter.
That's not ideal.
Last year you had six guys that had over 60 RBIs.
Yeah, it is one of the worst offenses in the majors.
But again, there's going to be team getting in the American League
that would be 10 games out in the National League.
That's how bad it's going to be.
Seize today, Soriano, tomorrow.
those are their best two arms.
And you probably,
you win two, you're in great shape, you don't.
It's close to must-win territory.
These two games.
It's getting there.
Got your ace.
You got the guy that's second in Cy Young odds going tonight.
He's been spectacular on the road.
You need another one of those from them.
And we'll revisit that for Bet, 365.
Did they play Baltimore, Texas at all?
They do.
Okay.
Baltimore 2 series, and I believe Texas once.
Wow.
Yes.
Teams that they're up against.
Well, I hope they win because it's at least interesting.
Yeah, it's interesting.
This is the thing.
It's like rather than fold the season like Jack
wants them to do, I would like to watch baseball
for the next. Realist. Don't poke fun at you.
12 and 5 Steelers realist. That's what he is?
No, I said 8 and 9.
Well, what day of the week is it, Mr. Realism
comes and goes?
We showed you the wild card odds.
What was Stan Cronky missing in life, boys?
Nothing.
Apparently, a major league baseball team,
which he bought for $4 billion, bringing his sports team
empire to around 30 billion U.S.
Arsenal and the APL.
Colorado Rapids and MLS.
Colorado Avalanche, they're good in the NHL,
Denver Nuggets in the NBA,
and oh, the Rams, your Super Bowl favorites
in the NFL. He now owns
the LA Angels. Incredible.
Also of note,
a company we noted for
what the heck are they doing
has four of those as well
in this country.
Empires.
Except Cronky Sports Entertainment.
they do a lot of winning consistently.
Yeah.
No question.
Yeah.
Avs are a standard bearer and nuggets have been very good.
Rams are elite.
Arsenal's a top club.
I can't speak.
What about Colorado Rapids?
Can't speak to their success.
It helps when you marry into the Walton family.
Doesn't hurt.
The Walmart family.
He's done well on his own as well.
Buy yourself a couple teams when you're hanging out with them.
Yeah.
Your wife is a professional something player in Europe and a mess to
a bunch of earnings as well.
Combining empires.
Don't say it.
What's that story?
Don't.
Keep moving.
God damn it.
Here's the story of Rhett and the shoveler.
They met on a boat.
Oh.
As all, you know, you get on the water, life's good, you get some sun.
Wreck cranks up the engine of it.
It's trying to impress the show.
Too weird.
Oh, no.
Oh.
Jeez.
I don't think it's supposed to go this way.
Sorry, honey.
Hold on.
Where are my sunglasses?
200 miles per hour.
Part of the risk.
Risk or worse.
So this is what's going on in Missouri, Jack, eh?
We should go check it out.
What are we doing here?
That's like a good time.
It looks like a great time to be on one of the boats on the bottom half of the screen, not the top.
that is your pinned report this Wednesday, September 2nd for Village Honda.
Pre-owned inventory over 90 units on site and access to more than 500 in the dealer group.
They are your dealership for life, VillageHonda.com and in the Northwest Auto Mall.
How's your sports empire coming?
I've missed out on the Angels.
I've missed out on a few.
Yeah.
A couple stabs.
What are the others that you've missed out on?
What do you mean others?
Do you know the one?
Oh, I'm familiar.
Bobby's new.
business dealings are not.
Calgary Canucks? What are we talking here?
There were,
there were rumors that there was a former
blade at one point that put together
a group of investors and tried to purchase
W.HL. Ah.
Just unrelated to this.
Right.
And you didn't get it.
What do you mean? He didn't know what it?
Wasn't me? I shouldn't talk about it.
You got connections.
Yeah. I'm well liked.
You know, you know, people have money.
Well, like. Just ask Connie.
Stop texting me when you're drunk.
What were you going to ask?
I wasn't asking anything.
I don't know.
I was drunk.
What were you ready to offer?
Do you have any particular wisdom you're ready to?
No.
Renford Chrysler, 1920 pump house road southwest.
When it comes to Ram Sport, Renford doesn't just compete.
They lead.
The 60K sport, widely known as Canada's best deal on Ram Sport.
And that's just the start.
Renfrew was recently named the number one Stalantis dealership in Canada.
for most new vehicle sales.
That's serious volume with one of the largest
inventories in the country, including a strong
lineup of Jeep compass models, price to move,
no shortage of options, big selection,
big energy and a team that knows how to close out a win
when it matters.
That's Renfrew Kraser, 1920,
Pump House Road in the Southwest.
In the market for a ram, there you go.
Good to know.
Wetters coming.
You can feel it already.
Did you see the social stuff we referenced it yesterday?
It's like, oh, this is from Cananascus.
Here's what's happening at sunset?
You know, you're like, I'm like, let's go.
Are you?
I love it.
Oh, I hate the summer.
Really?
Not a summer guy.
I run hot, as you can tell by the color of my face right now.
Well, look at him, yeah.
Yeah.
I love when it's minus 20 outside.
I got my screen door open.
You should be a tanked up and running shirts guy.
Just let over the narrow.
Okay, yeah, why not?
Yeah.
Kind of like, uh, Lenny Ball's Barstool.
You didn't even do that.
Do what?
That one we showed it, but did we talk about it?
The flames from our front office?
Get to that.
Oh, yeah.
You want to dive into that?
I'll do that now?
More nerd talk?
Well, as long as it doesn't go too long.
Okay, so the athletic once a year invites the readers to ask questions about how they feel about
every front office in the NHL.
The only stipulation is you have to put down the team to cheer for it.
You can rate as many front offices as you want or as few as you want, but over 10,000
different people checked in on the state of all 32 franchises.
What's interesting is that sometimes teams are really, fan bases are hard on
own team where the general public's a little more bullish on them.
And other times you have the public lining up right on the same path as the fan base,
public and fan base.
Carolina Hurricanes wouldn't be far apart.
Everyone believes that's a good front office.
They just won the cup.
It'll Colorado.
Montreal Canadian.
Sure.
There's some spots where it diverges.
There was not a bigger gap in the NHL than the public opinion of the Flames front office
and the fans opinion of the Calgary Flames front office.
It's the bars at the bottom of the screen.
Compared to last year, they do this every year.
Calgary Flames fans have 83% more confidence than last year.
That's the change.
83% more have confidence in the front office than did a year ago.
Whereas the public, about a third or less confident than they were last year.
What the hell's going on in Calgary versus outside of Flames fandom?
I think the thing that stands out to me is right now, you know, around the NHL, the Calgary Flames,
I don't know if I want to call them irrelevant around the NHL,
but they're finishing at the bottom of the standings.
They're starting a rebuild.
It's a smaller Canadian market.
They don't have a name.
I don't think there's a lot of fans outside of Calgary
who are really paying attention to this team right now
as closely as we are.
And I think that's where the big discrepancy starts.
I agree.
And I think it's broken down how the voting went.
The biggest gap that I would go to war with
that Flames fans are right on and the public's not,
if you don't think they've done a good job in draft and develop,
under Craig Conroy?
Yeah.
Like when you in the fifth round
pull the leading score on the NCAA,
that's a great pick.
When you have Wolf out of the seventh,
when you are stockpiling,
now this doesn't mean they're all going to be good players,
but when you go back and look at where guys should have been drafted,
there's a ton of picks that just shouldn't be on the board
where the flames are picking them because they've found value.
The public probably isn't keyed in on that
to exactly your point.
We're paying attention to teams that can win the cup
and the very, very top of the draft.
And they've been neither.
Yeah.
But they've done a very good job drafting and developing.
the lowest grade fans gave the flames were for free agency trading cap management and roster building but there's still B minuses the highest grade the public gave was a C and that's revision and draft and develop big gaps there and there's there's a couple you can make an argument where it's incomplete like roster building is incomplete like you can't truly give out a grade to Craig Connor and roster building right now because they are rebuilding and they have traded so many guys and they're in this
you're a bottom five team what's your roster bit yeah yeah you're clearly rebate
building. They're in the business of liquidating older assets and collecting more lottery
tickets. So to call that a D plus, I don't know if that's all that fair, but I mean,
they do have a poor roster heading into this season for sure. Yeah. And so if you're not paying
that much attention, you're like, ooh, I just look at this roster. It's no good. I don't like
roster building. Okay, but you've kind of missed what they're trying to do here. I think they could
have kept the Hannafins at Anderson's and Lindholmes and on and on and on. I think the rankings are
exactly what you want as a fan. I agree. Do you know what I mean? Because clearly,
looking at your team, we're going, those guys are terrible.
Perfect.
Yeah.
Because we're rebuilding.
And so as a fan, yes, it's B minus because you're like, yeah, I want a terrible
team.
We're rebuilding from the general public.
It's like, those guys are going to win any games.
Yes.
Perfect.
That's what we're after.
The one, the one I thought it was kind of an interesting grade was trading.
You know, the public has a C minus.
The fan base has a B minus.
But, you know, I would say that's kind of closer to like a B plus sort of a minus range
because Craig Conroy's made a ton of good trades,
like talking like home run,
kind of deals.
Top three biggest home runs he's made.
Lice Linholm.
Easily you get Hunter Brestevich,
Matt Vei Gridden out of it.
You turn Kuzmanko into Frost and Ferribee,
which will probably turn into even more assets in the future.
I think that was a home run.
I also think that's his best trade is made.
Yeah.
Second best I would probably put Jacob Markstrom.
You get Cole Reshny and Kevin Ball.
And it was time for Wolf anyway.
Out of a disgruntled goalie.
And yeah, you had Dustin Wolf coming.
I think that was a grand slam home run.
And I'd even say the,
the Anderson trade.
was right up there too.
Like from McKenzie Weger,
Mangupani getting a second for Mandjapani,
who ended up not playing well in Washington,
has,
you know,
signed in Edmonton had a terrible year there,
was a cap dump.
Yeah.
So,
like,
he's made a lot of really good deals.
I even throw the Cadry deal.
I think the Cadre deal is really smart.
We talked about could you just get rid of them for free at times?
Right.
And they end up getting the first,
a second,
and Karen,
if I'm correct.
Yeah.
That's a good trade.
Worst deals.
I hated the Tana Van Zedorov deals.
It was a soft year for defensemen on the market.
But you took less to get rid of Zadorov because it felt like he was poisoning the room.
It was a bit of pain in the ass.
So maybe you'd say we're willing to take less to get rid of the problem.
The Tann of one's baffling.
We've probably seen 10 to 15 defensemen move that I think were lesser players than Tanna was that year that have gotten more.
It was also shittier for DEMON.
Yeah.
But again, Gershnikov was always a bad bet.
If you're not putting up numbers, your whole career at the age that he was,
the chance of making the NHL is so low statistically.
And if you were to grade the trades as to what they ended up turning into,
what those picks turned into. Nikita Zedorov turned into Nikita O'Hocchuk and Joe
Ginnla. Faila. Chris Tannes turned into Jacob Battaglia, which turned into
Brennan Offman and Artem Grushnikov.
Yuck. You know, not great there either.
So, yeah, I'd even throw the Hanifin deal in there. I mean, this is a guy who's made Team USA
at the Four Nations and Olympics, you know, legit top four guy. You can even make an argument.
He's a legit number two. And just to get that first round pick, which is Jack Hextall,
third round pick, which was Carrills Rubin, and then Dineal Miramanov, feels a little
underwhelming for a player.
Oh, Miro is a non-asset and the other two are intriguing.
If they become core pieces, you win it.
But yeah.
Zerubin, some are incredibly high on,
but he's also never played a game in North America.
He's been in Russia.
This will be his first time.
He'll be an interesting guy to watch the Rangers this year for sure.
I'm high.
I'm in Hextall, but it's not a guarantee by any stretch.
No, he's a first rounder, but there's, you know,
when you get to 20 to 30,
you're flipping a coin where a guy can play 200 games,
not be a star, just to play 200.
But the Linholm one, it was fantastic.
I mean, just if you can just get Matt Vaig
ridden just from Elias
Linholm. It's a home run
deal. Never mind the rest. Totally. This is
the segment I knew Rhett was going to glaze over. Let's
just take a peek here. Yep, that's
correct. Nailed it, Jack.
That's what you wanted to bring him in for,
right, Jack?
Should grab that. Yes.
Read it.
Free, one more thing.
We can probably dive into a little bit. I actually think
the free agency work has been really good by Craig Conroy
in the sense that he has not made a
gigantic mistake. He hasn't gone out there
and spent a ton of money on a five or six
your contract for an older guy to help them maybe push him over the top, especially after the
24, 25.
It's pretty much been inactive in free agency.
And I think that's a good thing.
It has to be.
Yeah.
And I mean, you got Devin Cooley out of free agency, which is looking like a home run.
I mean, got him off the scrap heap of free agency.
You got like some nice work out of like Ryan Lomburg and even like the waiver wire,
maybe call that free agency a little bit.
AJ Greer, Braden Pahill, Joel Hanley, you know, some nice work there.
So I think it's a underrated.
I didn't love the return for Wigger, but I liked them getting out all the risk there.
Like there isn't probably ever going to be a centerpiece player that comes back from that.
It's a lot of seconds.
They fail more than they work.
But they use a second to get Nemich.
They use a second to move up and get Treyball who might be something one day.
The one deal we're not saying was the deal that he didn't make.
And it might be one of the bigger misses.
And we'll see if it's repeated this year or not.
But Dan Vlodar was a UFA.
Right.
They were chasing down a playoff spot and they walked him right to the door.
Yeah.
Tried to resign him.
And he regrets there or no.
I still don't think.
I think that Vlidar played well enough in Philly to up his stock a fair bit.
You'd think that we were going to get that.
He wasn't that good here.
You weren't going to credit.
So the potential was always.
You would have got an asset, but I don't know what it would have been.
He was always under 900, say, percent.
She's always a very mediocre goalie here in Calgary.
He's not the goalie that he's in Philadelphia today.
I still think they tried to sign him.
They did.
So I think they were happy to.
And kudos of Philly.
They looked at the schedule and they're like, holy shit.
Like second half of back to backs and all the tough opponents for the first half of the year was all that our starts.
Maybe these numbers aren't as bad as they look.
And the last year looks like they're right.
Can you repeat it this year?
We don't know.
They're goalies.
And realistically, what could they have got for him at the deadline?
Yeah, a third?
Like, that's not going to make the difference in a rebuild, right?
But still asset management, you still would have liked to have seen it happen, but it's not a huge deal.
No.
And again, if they've somehow got into the playoffs, even if they got thumped, like not getting a second.
in exchange for tens of millions
of revenue of the playoffs or whatever it would be.
I don't know 10, but you get it. Yeah.
Never mind, like, the morale boost for your club.
Like, I think that's fine. It wasn't egregious.
It's not like walking Caudier anderson out the door for us use, right?
And Conroy hasn't made a habit of doing that.
I think Vladar is probably the one guy that he's actually walked a free agency
that he could have got something for.
You know, he's traded everybody else.
I still think he wanted to bring him back.
Yeah. Yeah. They only got to be.
Yeah. They didn't expect it.
But it, yeah, for sure.
Journal and source for sports,
here's the deal you need to know.
You've got a month to do it.
A little less than that now.
It's the unlimited skate sharpening card.
Now the card, I'm going to do the air quotes.
They just put it on your file.
You don't have to worry about leaving it.
Your truck grab.
God, it's in the junk drawer at home.
Where's the skatechamining card?
Don't worry.
It's on your file.
You can use it for everyone in your family.
It takes like 25 skate sharpening's to pay this off.
Like, I feel like I'm already halfway there.
We're hardly into the best season.
It's not you started.
$300 now.
It's half price for a limited
time only until the end of the month.
We're talking unlimited skate sharpening.
Maybe you coach. Maybe you've got kids
to play. Maybe you've adopted
Jack because he doesn't have the skills to
live on his own and
maybe not. Maybe Jack doesn't. He gets his own
curve. I think Jack's doing great.
I think he's too, but we like bugging him here.
I don't want to pick that up.
50% off. Let's get her going available until
September 30th of the discounted rate. The locations
in town, you can get your skate sharpened at
the cloud location, the Northland
location, Flames Community Arena location.
It lasts until June 30th, 2027.
That's like Landon DuPont will be drafted, but the car would still be working.
That's a hell of a deal.
Him there.
That's right.
You might be sharp at his case.
Show me the draft, too.
A whole family can use a card.
It's a great deal.
And again, adrenaline source for sports on the cavalry scene since 2007.
So get that locked in, training camps, evaluations, start of season.
What's the minor hockey season looking like for you?
Are you going to be coaching?
We have fall ball practice one tonight and then evaluations start Friday for one.
How are you feeling about it?
Are you a little nervous or are the kids ready to go?
Nervous is not the word.
He is a faker.
He doesn't fully commit.
If you aren't being this sport, you're going to commit.
Great leaders delegate.
And I'm going to have a very savvy assistant coaching baseball staff this year
looking at my travel schedule and such.
It's like, oh boy, a lot of overlaps of hockey here.
I've done it again.
Just pray for rain.
Pray for rain.
Great.
kids in like peewee now?
U-13.
Okay, so the old TV.
Okay.
U-13.
U-13.
You don't call it Pee, Dant,
to midget anymore?
Timbitts is U-7.
Then they've U-9,
U-11, U-13, U-15,
and then there's U-18,
I assume some U-17 somewhere.
It's, yeah, there's a 16-7.
Are they looking at like team one,
two, three, or that they...
They just got cut from quadrant,
so we'll see, it's up in age group,
so we'll see how they do.
Speed limit goes up, big boys.
not terribly.
Yeah.
They'll work hard
and get a place
where they should be.
It's all that matters.
You can have some fun.
And they're going to get coached by their dad.
Deep down.
It's going to be awesome.
Just want to get back to that goddamn Pubbit FCA.
It's actually a great bar.
Hey, coach,
thanks for all the hard work for my son.
Here's a pitcher of beer.
God bless you.
Give me a cup.
Let's go.
I don't need the cup.
That's for me?
Oh, we're sharing.
Okay, two cups.
Let's do that.
You,
we talked about yesterday.
I want to ask Bobby just real quick.
I think it's clear who the Flames top four is on the blue line.
It's not the lines that we continue to put out on Daily Faceoff.
You have four guys that are cut above.
You've got Kevin Ball as a left shot defensive guy.
You've got Zach White Cloud as a right shot defensive guy.
And you've got two very offensively gifted young players with a lot of ceiling to see
how much can they get to.
And that's obviously Nemich and Perak.
What are you doing with the rest?
Because there's a lot of guys that are good hockey players,
but certainly not top four guys in Middleton,
Kuznetsov, Ristavich, Pahal, Hanley.
Yeah, I see it a little bit differently than most flames fans.
Like everybody else,
I think Ball and Nemich is clearly your top pair.
I think they'll probably get the most minutes,
maybe not necessarily the toughest matchups.
I have like a second pair as like a matchup pair with Kuznetsov and White Cloud,
where you just throw them out in the most difficult situations possible.
You kind of shelter a guy like Zane Perak a little bit because of that.
And then on the third pair,
I'd have Middleton and Perrek.
You get Zane on his strong side.
I think playing the off side, I mean, Red,
you should talk about this.
He does.
He hates this.
He doesn't care at all with you.
Don't give a shit.
I feel like it's easier to make plays
when you're on your strong side.
He would disagree.
Let's hear it.
Can you talk about me,
the differences between playing your left
and your right side as a defenseman?
You can do whatever.
Yeah.
It just comes down to that.
I think that these kids have been,
there's tendencies and because it's such a emphasis put on it.
This was a Babcock thing.
Oh, yeah.
So left, he's on the left.
Guys used to play the other, both my kids like playing the other side.
So some guys do.
I'm just thinking with the speed of the game, like it's going to be tough to get pucks off the boards, the offensive zone.
Maybe making passes might be easier out of your own zone on your strong side than using your backhand every now and then.
advantages, but there are advantages from playing your offside as well.
He's a 20-year-old kid.
I just want to put him in a position where he has the most success.
Where does he want to play?
Would be the question.
Well, he said the left side.
That's at exit meetings.
And if he said the left.
Connie referenced the left and
I don't think it matters with him.
He played three games on the left this year.
It looked fine.
Looked fine, but I mean, it was the highlight real
the whole of the year was coming down from the left point.
But it was three games.
What does he want to play?
You said, that's what it comes down to.
Then he plays on the left.
Where does Tusco want to play?
I don't care.
My opinion is I would start him on the right on the third pair
and put him on the first power play.
I also like having Middleton
beside him as a bit of a protector because Zane,
he got run a few times last year.
Yeah.
And I like having.
having the idea of Middleton out there.
You like the idea of it.
And I've got no question that Middleton might muck it up some, but if I'm another team,
I don't care.
Have you seen him his fights?
Just go on YouTube and watch some of these fights.
This guy can throw him.
And he's huge.
I'm going to be scared of him.
Yeah, you are.
He'll be terrified.
Retwell, but today's player might be.
Yeah.
Today's player is less, I should be more scared because I would have had to fight.
Nowadays, it's like, I don't care, Mr. Middleton.
Barker off.
We'll see how good the player is.
I have zero questions or concerns about the character and the toughness and the ability to protect teammates.
But you definitely want someone that is able to move the puck.
You don't want it to be like, well, I got the insurance blanket, but I definitely can't pass it to him.
My take is that Zane is capable of pouting if he doesn't like his partner.
And this is from a million miles away.
I would be very careful.
He better, whoever he's playing with, he better want to play with that guy.
So you're worried about the squeaky wheel here?
Is that what you're saying?
I'm worried about what you just said.
Is Middleton capable of keeping up with him and making the place?
Or is he the perfect?
I don't know.
That's the question I'm, right?
Yes.
I like the idea of having the defensive guy beside him.
Yeah, no, it's, there's lots of ways you could cut it.
You could also say we're going to give him high ground, put them with damage, and they're going to just play ozone.
Right.
Never know.
It'll be interesting to see what Huska does and how much he tinkers because in a long preseason,
you wouldn't have on them on the ice together a lot.
And you could try stuff.
Now, these guys are only allowed to play.
two games preseason.
Right.
He doesn't have a lot of tinkering time here.
And I would start with Perek in that situation,
but if he comes out in the first 10 games and it is incredible,
and he wants to play on the left side,
he's showing that he can, then go out and do that.
But I think just to start the year, that's the way I kind of see it.
And so you'd have Brestovich, because Netsub and the,
no, because Netsov play.
Yeah, I got Brestevich in the H.L.
To start.
Who's your seven?
And then Paul or Hanley,
you probably put one or both of them on waivers,
and you just see whoever doesn't get claimed,
then they're your extra.
How does Bristavich who are going to the miners?
He probably wouldn't be that happy about it,
but I'd say go down there.
I'd rather see Bersdevich play first pair of minutes
and a top power play unit in the HL
than being a number six or number seven in the NHL
where he's not going to get that many minutes.
I think it might be better for his development.
To start in the A, he's waiver exempt, unlike anybody else.
You're not going to lose him for sure.
You're not going to lose him.
You've not been as warm to that.
I just think he's good.
He's good, too.
But then if he goes to the HL and he rips it up
and it's clear that he's an NHL player,
well, then you look to move,
a guy like Zach Whitecloud.
I think it's kind of as easy as that.
H.O's different than NHL.
Well, for sure.
But if he's dominating that league where it's undeniable,
it's like,
this guy can't play down here.
He's that kind of player, though,
where he's going to, like what?
Whatever.
I'm kind of with you.
Like, he's not going to be,
oh, look at him,
run the power play and put up all these points.
Like, no,
he's just going to be really steady
and move the puck and make smart plays.
I mean, I think scouts and people
that are very smart would pick that up.
But it's tough for that kind of demon to dominate games,
right?
It's going to make smart plays a lot.
I don't know.
I don't know about this mix of defensemen they have.
It's awkward to me.
It is a little awkward.
I liked them,
but it's awkward to me.
You know what they don't have?
It's like a middle ground defender.
Well,
it's like I'm either super defensive and physical or I'm like,
I like,
I'm a rover.
I haven't liked Gousnets off in Bristavis last year.
I do too.
And I'm like,
build them up to be a shutdown pair.
That could be a third pair for a lot.
Just a real solid use and different situation pair.
But then Middleton's going.
Would you bring me?
Why am I here?
What am I doing?
What I don't want to see is like the likes of Perakur Nemich not playing.
I want to see these guys play at a ton.
Oh, yeah.
Jesus, Ryan, you just heard earlier that Craig has promised they're going to.
But they have to take the opportunity.
You have to grab the bull by the horns.
Cowboy analogy in a cowboy market.
Go grab the bull by the horn.
To me, to me, though, the awkward thing is White Cloud right now,
just because he is taking that spot from Brestevich.
And he's not a piece that would be hard to move, right?
You can liquidate him and do well.
Almost every team the league would love to have a guy.
Like that guy going to Dallas loved him.
Oh, I think he's a fantastic player in person.
He'll wear a letter this year.
If you really want Brestevich, then that's kind of the move you're going to make.
Or you have to move correct to the left, and we'll see if that happens and how well he plays there.
Problem solved, kind of.
Yeah.
They are problems.
They're considerations, really.
You know what I mean?
Like, it's not like, oh, my God.
of a year.
Like, you know what a problem is?
Is if you're trying to get Quinn Hune,
resigned, you know of the number one center.
And you're like, we have a small window to try to win a cup.
We have to get this right.
These are like, we're not going to be great, probably.
We got a lot of young kids.
We can try them anywhere.
Let's see how we go.
I got a feeling Craig is sleeping much more soundly than old Billy G.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
No, that's, I think that's, no one's going to debate you on that.
Or if your Vezna Trophy caliber goalie is demanding a trade and you just miss the playoffs by a
bunch of points last year. I think you might be a little bit worried if I cannot even understand.
Like you would have to stay at the rink for days. And what are you even doing?
And weighing different. Okay. Are we rebuilding? If I'm rebuilding what are all, how does that
trickle down? Well, if I don't rebuild. Can we be? Oh, that's you kind of got to burn the boats at
this phase of Bill Guerrins GMing. Like it's futures and.
Oh, yeah. You got to go for it.
Times now. And that might be the Quinn thing where it's like, I'm willing to stay.
Give me a center and I'm staying. You figure out how to pay both of us.
That's on my job.
So probably more snoring in the Conroy bed than the Bulgarian bed.
He's still dead.
Well, here's the thing. Snor can disrupt your sleep, but also other people all sleep.
So I'm hoping Connie's been to outdoor dental.
Simple, painless solution for snoring with just two 50-minute treatments.
It can last up to a year.
The treatment works by creating gentle tension in the soft palate that reduces snoring.
Most insurance plans provide coverage.

It is a modern cutting edge dental facility.

I've done the procedure twice.
It has helped a ton.
And I didn't notice a ton, but my wife sure did, which makes life better.
Happy wife, happy life.
That's what they say.
How many wives you got, Bobby?
A lot.
Love polygamy.
Kate polygamy guy.
That's you, the breaking newsbed, Jack.
I got a text from
outdoor generally yesterday.
What do they say?
It's time for you to come in.
Get your ass in for...
Good.
Yeah.
Well, start of the year.
Jay Patel, Outdoor Gentle.
We're doing our physicals for Barnburn
before the start of the year.
Let's go.
Hey, get you the V-O-2.
We'll get you...
With the Zapper on me, Doc.
Let's have it.
Should we do some supers?
sure we'll talk about some gear after that people have been weighing in on the show i imagine we get
flames you we usually get a little more i do wonder about today we haven't done a wednesday show in
months we got one ah god damn you said as a calgary you get two dollars today Canadian
i'm going to have a soup cam nightmare tonight's a man soup cam and girl uh boomer in a sotum
there's got to be some sort of filter where we could put a shirt on them or something jack
I would think so.
I think you looked great, boys.
Frame it a little tighter.
I don't know.
I like, we talk about the flames for 45 minutes.
We have all this great sports chat,
and the one super chat is about boomer in his hot.
Yeah, the one chat.
What a waste of time today.
My God.
It was almost a nip slip,
and that was the highlight of the show.
Sheets.
Let's do our bets.
Bats for bet three, six, five.
Let me tell you about the best deal they got going on.
It is the early payout with baseball.
man, baseball,
sometimes you're waiting in lines for hot,
line for whatever,
lines, lines, lines.
Why wait?
With Bet 365,
they just pay you right away
when your team goes up five runs.
At any point in the game,
they just pay your bet out right that and there.
Win or lose.
No waiting required besides your early get paid
so you can go back for another dog.

Alberta only must be 18 plus.
In Alberta,
please play responsibly.
Big game tonight.
Jack says the season's over,
but they're still going to play this one at 440 tonight.
Guardians, Blue Jays, Dylan C's.
Second and saw young odds right now behind Camp Schlittler, the Yankees.
It is, if the Blue Jays is going to be good,
probably can trust the starting pitcher ace more than their offense.
You think?
I got the earned runs under one and a half.
He's allowed one earned to run his last six road starts.
So I like the plus money there.
And will he record the win?
I'm going with yes, a plus 125 as well.
And must win.
Must win.
He could be great and they could not win.
But I don't know that they can win if he's not great.
If they're relying on their bats, they're in trouble, say the least.
Yeah, fair enough.
That said, spring around a bit of a heater.
Kirkie's been really good for a month if you could just get Vladdy going.
But again, you've had five months of Vladie not going.
So is it lunacy or is he due?
Probably depends on your perspective.
Nation gear, we got a brand new summer line going on.
It's the first limited edition collection, a new era of nation gear.
I'm wearing it today.
Rett's got that.
Where the hell is mine?
I got the hoodie.
Yeah, where's bobbies?
Once boomer passes, you'll slide right into that chair,
start wearing shades and you'll get the gear.
I can tell you, we've had lots of gear over the time here.
This is the best quality stuff we've had.
Jack's wearing a soda today.
Jack, how do you like it?
10 out of 10.
It's so comfy.
I own.
The hats look great.
Perfect gear.
Hats are down.
Real nice. And we will in the fall with the launch of the season have some exciting
barn burner theme stuff coming at us. But this is the nationwide stuff, partnering with
level wear to elevate the apparel you know and love, bringing you premium quality
pieces, new styles and versatile collections designed for life beyond game day. The offseason
social club is our summer collection built for the sports between the sports. You know how I know
it's good? You're wearing it because it gets stolen from me. Really? Oh, his glutes are already
shopping in his closet.
It's borrowed and
I have to yell to give it back.
It's mine.
Then I know.

when the Barnberger collection drops.
I'm looking forward to it. I've seen some
designs that Jack's been throwing together.
What? It looks realness.
Jack's doing it? Yeah, it's a big thing is Jack's
face and he's holding
it. I hope it's just picking. He's holding the Super Bowl
trophy, the Steelers are
wasting them up over his shoulder. It's like a fever dream of Jacks.
We're going to sell that kid. It's Aaron Rogers
and Mike McCarthy holding Jack up
celebrating this big Super Bowl
way. It's not. Enough.
Enough. I know.
You're making fun of me.
Check out the website
nationgear.cair for more.
Or it's Jack with a shirtless D.K. Metcalf.
What we're not doing is boomer and his hot tub.
That's the guarantee I'm giving you.
Have we touched
everything here. Any news broken, Bobby?
Nothing.
You would have been shut down for the year yet.
Rhett sure wish us so.
Oh.
Rhett wishes nothing but the worst on
John from Guberto by the sounds of it.
We're wishing the best for the guy.
We want to come back and succeed.
I want you to be a 115 point player again.
That's where I'm coming from.
You're one of those selfish prick fans
that just wants what you want.
So great. He gets to go out there and sacrifice
his body and get injured for the rest of his life,
crippled, feel like shit.
play with your kids for my all for bob's enjoyment bob you're so selfish that's what being a sports
fan is all about it was going so well and the last minute of the show yeah i'm the wrong i'm in the
