Barn Burner: Boomer & Pinder with Rhett Warrener - Did The Golden Knights Make A MISTAKE Trading For Rasmus Andersson?? | BB Clips
Episode Date: March 12, 2026Boomer, Pinder and Rhett dive into the early struggles of Rasmus Andersson since his move from the Calgary Flames to the Vegas Golden Knights. Andersson was the first of three Flames veterans moved th...is season when Calgary dealt the 29-year-old defenceman to Vegas in mid-January in exchange for Zach Whitecloud, prospect Abram Wiebe, a conditional 2027 first-round pick and a conditional 2028 second-round pick. At the time the deal looked like it could benefit both sides, with Calgary adding assets for the future while Vegas aimed to strengthen its blue line. But through his first stretch with the Golden Knights, Andersson has struggled to find his footing and hasn’t meshed cleanly with different defensive partners, while Vegas itself hasn’t looked nearly as sharp. The guys debate what’s really going wrong and whether this is just an adjustment period or a bigger issue for both Andersson and the Golden Knights.Video Link: https://youtu.be/dVVuZaz3W08#nhl #nhlshorts #nhlplayoffs #nhlpredictions #nhlhockey #nhlpicks #stanleycup #stanleycupfinal #vegasgoldenknights #vegas CHECK OUT OUR STUFF ⬇️BARN BURNER MERCHhttps://nationgear.ca/collections/shirts/FlamesnationBARN BURNER SHORTS https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLj_bcGtvvo-cW2DHEDZ6dEO5ePDmlhZc9&si=jo8iNGxT4ImhS2Y8📲 Follow us:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fnbarnburner/X (Twitter): https://x.com/barnburnerfn?lang=en🎧 Listen on:Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/be/podcast/barn-burner-boomer-pinder-with-rhett-warrener/id1648562889Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3Mc6Qd5U22R2zbMlQ7RxIiProducer: Jack Haverstock Hosted on Acast. There was another stat I saw since the trade of Rasmus Anderson to Vegas,
nobody has fewer regulation wins than Vegas.
Or most of the losses, one of the two.
They're not good.
Nope.
They're out of the playoffs in any other division.
Isn't that wild?
They're not disjointed and totally beatable.
Yep.
Now, maybe they crank it up like Edmonton may have just done in the last week,
but it is not inspiring.
I'm just looking here at the devils to mine.
I'm more of the Rocky Balboa type guy where it's the,
I have the Tiger,
the young guys coming up that are going to step it up and put a charge on,
like Seattle,
who we don't like,
San Jose,
who we love.
I look at those teams and go,
they're more likely.
Anaheim.
Yeah.
Well, Anaheim's already in and leading a charge.
Sure.
Okay.
I think they're going to,
I'm saying to take a spot from Edmonton or Vegas.
I think what are the dumb kids,
remember?
Like, if you're under 25, you're an idiot.
You don't even know.
The brain doesn't even work right.
You're just having too much fun.
Yeah.
What do you mean?
It's like Jovanoski, crushing Lindrauss and Lemieux.
What do you mean?
I'm not allowed to hit those guys.
They don't have to worry about kids and school and family holidays and stuff.
They're single young men.
They can just focus on plain guilty and having fun.
I thought about this last night.
Somebody had posted something on Twitter or whatever about since the Vegas Golden Knights
picked up Rasmus Anderson.
And I forget exactly.
what it was, but it's, you know, their five-on-five play has not gotten any better or has
deteriorated. The record has not been very good. And we go back, not to say that should they
have done the trade or not, what is Raspis Anderson's mindset right now? Yeah, because we
thought an extension was automatic. Now, it's still Vegas and taxes and climate and building,
and it's still Vegas. But it doesn't feel, to me, from a million miles.
miles away quite as automatic as we thought it was going to be.
100%.
Two things.
Is Vegas in love with Raspus Anderson?
Now, I don't think Raspus Anderson has anything to do with Vegas's wins or losses,
which maybe is a, you know, a knock on his play.
Maybe that's the idea is you're supposed to come help him.
But Pinder brought it up all year.
They have not won games in regulation.
They have not played well.
Like they haven't been a dominant force.
No.
And is Vegas won him back?
I would think when you went there at that juncture, you're like, I'm going to a contender.
This is going to be great.
They got to figure out where to put this dead petrangelo money to open the space to
resign him.
So we'll deal with it later.
We already got close to a deal with Boston.
So we know what the market values you at.
And it's just going to be a matter of time before they sign because they're going to be good.
There'll be a long playoff run.
He's going to be a huge piece with them missing Petrangelo.
Now he's looking not as good as he did in Calgary.
And they've been underwhelming.
I mean, both parties, if they have colder feet than they did, that would make a ton of sense.
Like, are you just locking him in at, you know, eight times eight?
Just as you're wondering, like, what are we?
Are you in your prime still?
Because it looked like you were when we added you, but now you just look like a guy.
Well, you got to know their depth.
I don't know what they have coming up.
I don't know what they, you know what they mean.
But you might sign him just because it's like, well, we've got the money and we've got to do something.
And your pot committed a bit with what you
get him. Maybe you just say, okay,
it's not pretty, but we're already committed to
You might be able to grind him for less
than what he hoped to get. Maybe. And if he feels like
they're trying to grind him, he's like, well, I know what I can get from Boston.
Imagine if he gets less than what the flames would have offered
him when they were still doing that song and dance.
Yeah, that didn't sound like that's serious this year.
But yeah. Yeah. It all kind of came up the other night
because pod coals and it was the Oilers game, of course. The Oilers media
jump on it.
but to be fair, it doesn't mean it's incorrect.
It was Gregor, who had one of the tweets, Raspus Anderson.
Surprising how average and below average at times he's looked since joining Vegas
in 15 games outscored 2011 at 5 on 5.
That's not good.
You're supposed to be at sea level at worst when you're on a team like that.
They're goal-tending shit too.
Yep, there's some of that in there.
The P.D.O would be dog shit if you want the nerd numbers for it.
And some, he must have done a bit of a, because there's a couple of different writers in Vegas
who have done a story this past week,
that his wife and two kids are still in Calgary.
I wonder why that is.
Because what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, do you?
Got it.
I wonder, like, it's, I don't know that you'd have a house.
Like, do you want them to live in the hotel with you here?
Like, I think you probably just try to get the season done with and then get so much money.
You can rent a condo or anything.
I think it's none of our effing business.
I caught myself there with the effort.
I don't, we don't need to comment on what.
his personal choices are.
Yeah.
And again, you talk about the importance of having young hungry guys on the team.
They've done well with some lesser known not top end prospects.
He's getting some big boys in the bottom of their lineup.
But like they've traded every first ever.
Cody Glass, their first ever gone.
Roseoff didn't make it.
Krebs.
He's in Buffalo.
Brennan Brissonne.
He's been moved.
Zach Dean.
Don't know who you are.
Like it's,
if you always move up first.
He was, yeah.
They traded him in the patch ready deal.
Yeah, it's like it goes on and on and on.
Like they just don't have,
like they don't have a wave of top talent so much as they found some nice role players.
They're like, we're going to go big game hunting and trade and free agency and then we'll backfill depth with our system rather than, oh, we'll just wait until this kid arrives.
No, they don't have that.
Well, we've praised them for their approach to go after it and to run their team a certain style.
But now are we going to do we have to step back and raise an eyebrow and go, okay, wait a minute.
This is maybe not ideal.
Maybe this isn't how you run a new age franchise.
It's a hell of a run,
but if you told me their window was starting to close,
I could be sold on it.
The flip side is they still got some really impactful players.
Like when you said talking about it.
They do, but sorry, I'm older than you, but not by a bunch.
When I was playing, I'm serious.
Like the Leafs and the Rangers had all kinds of money.
And when there was no cap, they used to buy everyone and they were older guys.
31.
I was like,
yeah,
if I was down at the studio,
I'd throw my slippers on
and show you what happened.
Is there some of that?
Thank you.
Thank you, Ryan.
Like, is there,
look at those.
Those are pretty nice.
You know, guys,
on 31,
I got a long-term contract.
Is this anyone specific?
Could we attach a name
to this impression?
Just,
I think what Rhett's saying
is when you solve your problem
with guys in the second half of the career,
you maybe lose a bit of that hunger.
Double-edged sword, right?
Because you know Kelly McCriman's thought process that it would be,
I will sacrifice draft picks because we're always going to be a top destination for free agents.
Guys are going to want to come here.
Freeing our older players.
Exactly.
But then it kind of, you get into it and it comes back to risk.
We could use some mid-20 guys who are high-end.
Yeah.
Because we've got some high-end players, but they're all, you know, Eichl is still tremendous.
But Mark Stone is never going to play an 82 game season.
He may not have to, I guess, but he's.
He's with every past year.
You have to at some point wonder about Stone's longevity for playing hockey.
And I speak to that again, like I speak about TANF, where it's like,
you will have to have a life after hockey.
You've done one hell of a job with your career.
You've made a ton of dough.
We love you.
You're a leader, Stanley Cup champion.
We can't praise you anymore.
Please take care of yourself.
You look at that team.
And again, we'll move on.
I don't know why we got necessarily.
Because there's nothing else to talk about.
Well, there's a couple of things, but Vegas is port into the flames.
They hold the next two firsts.
Yeah, fair enough.
The, when they came in, because we would, we've been like frothing over
Buffalo the last few days.
When Vegas came in, they had those, no one liked us.
We're the, you know, misfits and that whole thing.
And they were guys who were finally happy to get some increased ice time and
responsibility and play hard.
And that's why everyone fell in love with them.
And then they win and that whole thing.
That's not this team anymore.
There's, it is to your point, right?
It's some fat cats.
It's some guys that, oh, sun's shining and the money's coming in and the pool's in the backyard.
And wife is happy.
And she's going, you know, she's hanging out with her friends at the spa over at the, at the win.
I don't know.
Life's great.
But that does not have that same hunger.
When you played in Vegas, it was, geez, get ready.
Because this is going to be a shit night.
These guys are ready coming at us for 60 minutes.
The crowd is right on top of us.
that ain't it anymore.
Nope.
So Stone 33, Riley Smith 34,
Colton Sisson's 32,
Sods 33,
you know, Carlson 33,
Hurdle 32,
Nick Dowd, they just added,
he's 35.
Oh, Barboshev, he must be young,
he's 30.
That's the forward group.
Yeah.
And to your point,
when we'll move on,
regulation wins,
21 for the flames,
21 for Vegas.
At home,
they have won 14,
they're 14, 10, and 7.
So there again,
it's that extra tight.
thing, but that's a middling
home ice. That's not home ice.
There's no one there. Well, I don't know
I don't know how to put stock into
while if they're in another conference or division or this or that
because it's like, well.
It's just you roll the ice.
Yeah. They're not.
Schedule's easier. You're playing
the flames and Canucks more than teams not in your division.
Travels better. I mean,
it, I don't know. I don't love.
I get what I feel like it's one of
things that it's a bit of a crutch when you're trying to make a point when you want to
it just means you got lucky you can't control if it was if it was if it was made the other way
around it would be like well what does that mean well every other team is playing in this division
and in this conference they have the both teams are playing in the same i i just i don't i don't
get more easy games that's it yeah like you get to play calgary and vancouver eight times
teams in the east get them twice those are the two worst teams in the league
