Barn Burner: Boomer & Pinder with Rhett Warrener - Did Zayne Parekh REALLY Need To Apologize For This?? | BB Clips

Episode Date: January 6, 2026

Boomer, Pinder and Rhett react to Zayne Parekh apologizing for his comments about not wanting to be a “robot” and wanting more personality in the game — and the guys aren’t sure why he needed ...to apologize at all. Parekh admitted things may have been worded badly and said he didn’t mean to disrespect the Flames or his teammates, but Boomer, Pinder and Rhett wonder: what are we even doing here? Was this really worth an apology, or did everyone just overreact to a young player showing some honesty?VIDEO LINK: https://youtu.be/QIfIokd7zig#nhl #nhlshorts #nhlplayoffs #nhlpredictions #nhlhockey #nhlpicks #stanleycup #stanleycupfinal #calgaryflames #calgary CHECK OUT OUR STUFF ⬇️BARN BURNER MERCHhttps://nationgear.ca/collections/shirts/FlamesnationBARN BURNER SHORTS https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLj_bcGtvvo-cW2DHEDZ6dEO5ePDmlhZc9&si=jo8iNGxT4ImhS2Y8📲 Follow us:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fnbarnburner/X (Twitter): https://x.com/barnburnerfn?lang=en🎧 Listen on:Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/be/podcast/barn-burner-boomer-pinder-with-rhett-warrener/id1648562889Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3Mc6Qd5U22R2zbMlQ7RxIiProducer: Jack Haverstock Hosted on Acast. Starting point is 00:00:01 Zane Perak kind of got raked over the coals for comments he made at the world juniors. Just let me, just let me lay it out. I know you love interrupting me all of a sudden. Redsax hailing already. One guy was tough. I got two years now. Osmosis. Ghost of the world juniors.
Starting point is 00:00:22 Life's good. He's playing hockey. He's the star of the team, all that. And he's asked just about, you know, confident kind of demeanor you seem to be in Here was the initial, I guess the initial interview that got things started. To show your personality, was it by watching other athletes doing the same thing? I think it's more watching NHL guys be robots and not having any personality. So, you know, I think you need some personality and it's kind of the best way to grow the game.
Starting point is 00:00:56 And, you know, I don't want to come in here and be a robot. I mean, you know, when I'm in Calgary, I definitely have a lot of guys that are telling me to give really simple answers, but, you know, here I could kind of do what I want. Thanks for not listening today. Thanks for that. We appreciate it. Okay. So, I mean, and part of it is the, I mean, the media is pumping its tires there. Hey, thanks.
Starting point is 00:01:18 You heard of the guys. Thanks for saying it for doing that. Thanks for not doing that. We say it all the time. So that there is that. And we know what the reaction was. It didn't go over well, flames this, which we'll talk about. Now, this was yesterday.
Starting point is 00:01:31 The Canadian, and again, this is the Canadians who have lost the chance to win gold. They're playing in the bronze medal game. This is post game. Zane Perak, and I don't know that he was necessarily pushed to talk about it, but he came out with this yesterday. Like the other day when you talked about who you are in front of the media, would you learn about that and did you hear from the team about those comments? Nothing yet.
Starting point is 00:01:54 I mean, I think some things got spun out of proportion. and, you know, my words probably worded things wrongly, but obviously it wasn't my intent in the words I said. And, you know, I sincerely apologize to, you know, the Flames organization and my teammates, you know, at the end of the day, that's, you know, not acceptable and that can't happen. So if... What's that face?
Starting point is 00:02:22 Is your face for... Is this camera frozen? I wasn't sure what was going on there. Yeah. Well, I'll just... Back to you, Red. it's lame that this is a thing. I don't give a shit what he said. And if it got the guys in the Flames locker room upset, that's embarrassing.
Starting point is 00:02:36 And if he had to, they told him to make an apology, that's embarrassing. And if the media is blowing it out of proportion, that's embarrassing. Like, what are we talking about? Some kid made a call. It's much to do about nothing. Yeah. Who the cares? And people are trying to spin this into, oh, he's going to ask for trade or this organization here or not on the same page.
Starting point is 00:02:58 and oh, the boys aren't going to welcome it back into the room. Like, how about it's a 19-year-old that just spoke his mind and had a media scrum laughing and, you know, move along? That's, to me, it's exactly what has happened. The kid was having fun in a media scrum a million miles away from the Calgary Flames and the NHL. And, oh, we're having some yucks today. Ha, ha, ha, I don't want to be a robot, you know. So that's what it's like at the NHL level. I just want to.
Starting point is 00:03:27 And what did he say? Yeah, exactly. And then that's your deep info? Yeah. Then he goes on social media and is getting crushed. So who is this kid? This kid has got a need, he needs to learn a lesson. He's going to have to be put in his place. And I don't think the flames room is very. It's like, holy fuck. What did I, what did I say over here? He needs to get back in a game so badly so this could go away.
Starting point is 00:03:47 It's just play. Someone put him on the power play where he's actually going to help this team and let the kid play and be himself. Not going to hurt. if you're trying to turn him in a third line shut down D-Man, it's not going to go well. Let the kid do what he's good at. Like I will say again, it's unfortunate that this whole thing,
Starting point is 00:04:09 because what is the story that Zane Perak said something, oh, maybe the flames are mad and all he had to have an apology, or that he had the best tournament ever for a D-Man. Ever for a Canadian D-Man. He's won off Rasmus Anderson's dad who held the record for the Swedes. Like I can tell you what the, it's one. and I don't think it's him setting this record. It's 100% not him setting the record.
Starting point is 00:04:32 No one's talking about that. And it should be. And it should be. Like here's the thing. There's all the disclaimers about, well, it's his peers. It's not man.
Starting point is 00:04:40 And he's 19 and, you know, it's going to be different in the NHL. The speed limit's higher. He has a lot of learning to do. And Ryan Husk spoke about a post game or before the game yesterday. He talked about,
Starting point is 00:04:50 well, you know, the league was fast when he left. It's picked up another gear since he's gone. There's going to be a, it's a big change for him to go from World June to this. But like, if you knew this kid was going there, what was a best case scenario you were hoping for individually? Because the team thing, you always want to win gold. But like, man, he's really good. He's going to set the record for defensemen for Canadians of the tournament.
Starting point is 00:05:12 That's phenomenal. Yeah. And instead, it's like, and it kind of proves his point in a way that he says something rather innocuous. And hockey culture is all, oh, like, that is kind of his point. And that's why guys don't say anything in interviews. Because anytime you show a little personality, it gets stomped. Well, he's 19. He shouldn't be saying this. I get what he's trying to say. And then him having to apologize it really only reinforces what he's trying to say.
Starting point is 00:05:40 And he didn't say anything. No. For good, bad, or indifferent, it wasn't more entertaining. He didn't give a better answer. He went along with what they led him to. He got some chuckles in a scrum. Yeah. And it wasn't like he came out and had some deep dive into Dale Hunter's coaching
Starting point is 00:05:55 And you know what, guys, let me tell you what. Yeah. You know who told me not to say. There needs to be more of what I'm about because at the NHL level, when I get there, like it wasn't that. Eric Francis had the comment from Weeger. We've spoken, this is Weiger talking about Peret. We've spoken about it already a little bit on text.
Starting point is 00:06:16 I think he does feel a little bit bad about it, which is okay. Great. That's the fact that they're fucking talking about it, I swore against story is. How's that swear jar for Rhett coming? We need a graphic. You guys were putting money down for every swear too. Hundreds and hundreds of. It's the 6th of January.
Starting point is 00:06:34 Yeah, it's, um... And again, I hope in the room, it's a joke. It has to be portrayed as, this is so rum. If we're all that sensitive, then we should shut our phones off and screens and all the above because we're clearly not capable. Honestly, like you've got kids that are older, minor 10, you've got kids that are, you know, becoming adults.
Starting point is 00:06:58 Like, the worst thing a human can do is read into what's being written on social media. And for pro athletes, it's even worse. And if the flames are following the world juniors, they're not focused on what's important. No,
Starting point is 00:07:14 I'm sure it's this, what exactly on top of someone on social says, oh, I can't believe Perik says this. Stay the office. Get rid of them. Yeah. And my hope is, my hope is that the flames feel the same way we,
Starting point is 00:07:25 do. That when they meet up with him today in Montreal. Hey, great tournament. That was awesome. Good. Congrats on the Bronx. Hey. You know, you're really, you're in big trouble, hey. Fuck, come out. We're going for stakes. We're, like, that's it. Just fucking move on from it. Yeah. And don't make it a
Starting point is 00:07:41 thing. Don't make it a teaching moment. He's learned all he needs to learn. He's going to shut his friggin mouth. And whether he should or not, he's not saying anything. When's the next time he's going to come out and say anything? That's a good lesson for a kid to learn. He should. Right.
Starting point is 00:07:55 Speaking cliches, don't you know? Montreal's a great city for him to get back to the boy. Not enough downtime, unfortunately. I mean, when did this? You know, it just kind of made me thinking it's not the same at all. But this year, watching Baker Mayfield in the NFL. Now, first overall pick and all of that. But they remember when he was, whatever,
Starting point is 00:08:16 through like five, six, seven weeks, he was like, this guy's the MVP of the league. They were playing great. And he was like, what kind of watching Baker out there? Like, he's a dog. He's an animal. He's running. He's taking hits,
Starting point is 00:08:27 all this sort of thing. So when did your game change? He's like, nothing changed. Yeah. Just when I was young and I came into the league, I was cocky and brash and I was an asshole. But now I'm a dog and I'm a gamer and I've got,
Starting point is 00:08:39 it's just the context is different because I'm older now and the results are maybe a little bit different. It's like, we just, we do love to eat things alive. Especially in hockey. Like, it's not a this sport versus that sport, but the comments that he made would not draw any attention in a lot of the pro leagues.
Starting point is 00:09:02 And that's right or for wrong. It doesn't like each league and sport has its own culture. And it's not having to say there's a hierarchy of what's better and worse. It's just different cultures.
