Starting point is 00:00:00 Cooley started six or seven, I think, here. Does it matter? Do we care? Like the last start Wolf had was against Tampa Bay and he got absolutely torched. Again, maybe not all his fault. Is there anything there to worry about, think about? I mean, in 10 years from now, we're probably not even remembering, but would you treat it differently?
Starting point is 00:00:34 I'm happy about it, which is weird to say, because this is the growing pains of an elite starter. And there isn't just a jersey filler. There's a guy who's trying to play behind him to earn a contract to be an everyday NHL or all of the types of things. So Cooley getting the lion's share of starts right now is creating a little bit of a healthy competition. We know who the number one guy is.
Starting point is 00:01:07 as we know who the star is. But he's not playing at the top of this game. And it's all right for him to work on his game while Cooley plays. And when I saw that he was getting another start, I'm like, oh, good. You know, good for him because you could see he's excited to play. And the team is, you know, when you go on a little bit of a role, it's nice. It's not just the same. Sometimes you know where they say, like, you play well, you'll get the net.
Starting point is 00:01:37 You play well, we'll put you right back out there. But then the coach is like, I'm not putting that guy out there. I need my, you know, I need my starter. I need my star. But here is a scenario. If you play well, you get an opportunity to play. I would like to see if, you know, name me a player that's farther down in the lineup and starts scoring or starts producing.
Starting point is 00:02:00 And Huska's like, sorry, I got to find more ice time for him. So why should you have that in the net? And I don't think it changes the status of Dustin Wolf whatsoever. Not in my mind. It shouldn't change the fan base or the organization. What it does is it helps him grow to the point where it's like, yeah, I want that net back. That's my net.
Starting point is 00:02:24 And I want to push myself. And he gets time to work with the goaltending coach and work on his game in a season where it's not going to go perfect. Last year seemed to just go, showed up. He made a bunch of saves. and got them 96 points. This year, it's different. People are preparing for him.
Starting point is 00:02:43 And maybe he doesn't get the bounce. Maybe he doesn't hit the crossbar and go over the glass. Now it hits the crossbar and goes in. So he's got some adversity. So it's a long-winded answer. I'm not worried about him, but I think it's good for the bigger picture of Dustin Wolf and his progression as an elite number one.
Starting point is 00:03:03 Because in my mind, he's still an elite number one. but I remember Yarrow Halak playing in front of Kerry Price. You know, a young Jamie McClennon got a few extra starts in front of Grant Fear until they smartened up. Like all these types of things that happen and it's for the bigger picture. Put it down.
