Like, because a lot of the superstars are just blazing speed in today's game. Like you watch McKinnon and McDavid, and you're like, holy shit, these guys just fly. And Matthews is just kind of this blend of size and finesse. And he's certainly not slow. but he's not a burner. He can be as great as he wants to be.

And honestly, he's got a shot at Ovi's number if he wants to play till he's 40, whatever, and can keep going at a high rate. He's at that kind of start to his career where he's tracking for that. I don't think anyone's going to live up. He's been hurt a lot. But he's the only guy that's taking a run at 70 goals

in like 25 years. There is no denying how good he can be. But if you're not, the Leaves and what does he go? 47 points. It's not good enough as the captain of the Leaves and a team that's supposed to... Slow start,

been a lot better lately, but he doesn't give you that feel. You're not allowed to have slow starts and be shitty. Like, no one makes, McKinnon doesn't come to the ranks and make excuses. He's not making an excuse, but what I'm saying is this is not a consummate

leader of men. I think he's a very good player, but it's not like we're watching Sidney Crosby. And that doesn't mean he can't be a great player and have success and win a lot in this league. But his greatest skill is not leadership. It's not his will to win. I think it's probably quite adequate, but he's going to be compared with Hall of Famers, not average NHLers.

It's tough when, like you say, he has all that ability. It's not tough. You'd love it. We'll take them. But 50 games, 26 goals, 47. point. So he's not quite a point of game. And there are the injuries. He didn't get that when he got clunked there by his door off or whatever. So he's not a real leader and he's not a burner and he's under a point of game and he's making so much money. You, you kind of wish there was more. And this is probably like a career worst year type of thing, right? Like this is everything going wrong. It's not a career. It's not about a one season thing. It's about the fact

we talked about it. I'm not the hell do I care about Matthews not helping the Leafs win. but he's not showed up in the big games and made a difference when he's had the opportunity. There have been big games where you could have made, you could have been, he probably will have a bloody statue anyway, but they would have been naming streets after you. but one guy's got the signature performances in big spots and the other doesn't. Yeah. And it takes one year, whatever is the flames. One year, if he scores the big goal, it all,

it all changes. But to your point, it was what, eight or nine or ten post seasons in a row where those spots kept coming up

and more often than not, we were left wanting more. And I don't know where he wants to be considered in the hierarchy of the NHL's best,

but very rarely to the best, McKinnon, McDavid, Crosby, give you a flat effort. And I don't think that last night

is a one-off for Matthew. I agree to that. Right? You know what I mean? Like, yep, you're not going to be great every game. But I don't think last night was unique for him. He's probably more Alex McGilney than he is Sidney Crosby, right? Like elite score, but there's some nights off in there. Like elite elite shooting.
