Starting point is 00:00:00 serious talk yeah i mean we take nothing from what did what does conroy take from it does he take nothing from it as well and say it's just preseason or do you have you don't have to address it and get someone new in but you have to do what he's pinders thing at least take a look because it's it yeah the the team in front of them was not balls out but that's two goalies that led in the first shots that they faced one on a breakaway okay but it's it It was eight goals. Team was bad. Goalies are part of it.
Starting point is 00:00:43 When you look at the roster, when you look at the roster, is there a way you could improve this roster on waivers? Goal is the only spot that you can do it. Like you're not seeing a 20 goal guy slide of ways. You're not going to see a top for defense. And are you improving it of any significance that's going to make a difference. Like that's the other thing, 10 to 15, 20% improvement. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:01:03 Because if you pick it up someone off waivers, not to repeat myself, but it's another, it's a contract. And it's because it's a goalie, I feel like it's different. You can forwards and that you find. Yeah. You only have so many spots for goaltenders. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:15 And look, if Wolf was in the A, I'd feel strongly about it. But like, is Owen say destined for start him? You have a goalie that you've just. Like who's in the minors that they will ever be on this team of note? But I just, just very logistically for this season, do they have enough spots for goalish if they add another one? Yeah, you just loan out one of the guys from there. Sun to the coast. But you know, that's can you?
Starting point is 00:01:38 Yeah. that's easy to do. Yes. Okay. I mean, like here's the thing. Go find noodles. Where did these guys last both play?
Starting point is 00:01:48 Last time we checked in at the end of last year, Devin Kooli wasn't even on the bench backing up. He had a miserable second half and they went to two other guys in the crease for a playoff series. That's a major. Last time we checked in on Popatop, as Red's calling him. He was playing in the K and he had played his way out of the NHL to get to the K. So could they be good backup? Yeah, if everything goes the right way, they could be a good backup.
Starting point is 00:02:12 But if we pick up where we left off, one wasn't good enough to be in the league. And the other one had played his way out of the crease in the H. We have two tandums. We have the Wolf backup tandem and the backup backup tandem. They can just. Now, if we and we all do, we are brimming with conifidence. These are genius. They went to get Prasvita.
Starting point is 00:02:36 They saw enough to go and pull this guy back. to the National Hockey League in theory. And they've done that a lot with Europe. So are they going to base, obviously they put in Intel, time, scouting, brought them over, gave them a contract. Are they going to discard all of that and get a waiver guy based on what they've seen through?
Starting point is 00:02:59 I don't know that they're going to get a waiver guy, but they should look at the waiver guys. Again, depending, like I said, Craig's a genius. we're going to drop in the standings because of his plan. Yeah. But no, you have to go look. Right.
Starting point is 00:03:16 You have to go look and it's like, sorry. How can Cooley or Popatop walk into your office when you send him packing and go, what do you mean? Oh, it was great. Didn't earn it. I earned it. Like, those guys have to be looking in the mirror this morning and going, oh, my God. I know.
Starting point is 00:03:34 What did I do? Like the career number. for pros of it. Just understand, like, I'm not fighting for him. I'm just thinking inside that all. I don't know that they do bring someone in, but they're, go look. What's not going to hurt you? The guys played four parts of four seasons in the NHL.
Starting point is 00:03:53 He's got a 370 and an 8.81. If he was just that guy, is that a guy that you can improve on or not for, for almost nothing, for a single contract and less than a million bucks? I think the answer is yes. So when they want it or not, because you're right, it's logistically more difficult. But it might only just buy them a couple months for this guy to get ready. They always talk about goalies come from Europe, especially Russia.
Starting point is 00:04:15 Dimensions are different. Maybe you can just buy them a month of development. You're not worried about him getting claimed. Because based on that, it would be like, what the hell are you guys seeing? On the planet, this is the one goalie that doesn't have a contract that you went to bring as a potential tandem or a guy for your NHL team. Yeah, at worst, a battle with Cooley. So they have to have seen more than what we see on paper. And obviously he saw that.
Starting point is 00:04:44 And to be fair, like it wasn't like he allowed five on 19. It was five on 19. And his prior preseason action. It was clearly a bad night. So he's not that bad. But the question is, is he that good? I think he was bad. Because there's probably 25 to 32 games out there for a backup if Dustin Wolf's healthy.
Starting point is 00:05:04 It's a lot of games. And so if you're going to pretend that you want 97 points and let the room believe, you kind of owe it to them if there's an opportunity to improve your roster, they go do it. If nothing else is something for fans to when you hear everyone, hey, so-and-so is on waivers, they've made some cuts, these guys are on waivers. You can play the game, have some fun, see what's out there.
Starting point is 00:05:25 You want some names? Remains to be seen just how serious the flames. God, do I want names, please. Okay, so the guy that's probably drawing most attention is Michael DiPietro. He was a former Canucks prospect claimed on waiver. by Carolina a couple of years ago. He is in a three goalie spot. He's at the top of the list.
Starting point is 00:05:41 Well, he's a guy. And again, if you want to compare his NHL numbers to pop a top, they might be better. Nico Dawes, we saw in New Jersey before they went with the, we need some veterans, Alan and Markstrom combo last year. Akira Schmead played in, I believe. He was going to be the guy. He was big and he's young.
Starting point is 00:06:00 And he, if they do sign Carter Harton, Vegas, which sounds like it might be happening. That's a guy that wouldn't be crazy to see you get cut loose. When they bring guys over, they want young guys that can help develop. Is there something that we can, in three, four years, say, yes, we took something off the trashy, but we turned it into an asset. He would sort of check those. And if he turns into something, trade him for something.
Starting point is 00:06:25 Oh, and that's what you can do with any of these guys, to be fair, right? And there might be multiple. Yeah, but some of them have a likelihood and some of them have a, well, we'll try and plug a hole. Capocanin is a guy that played a bunch. He's a forward. He plays in the same. Seattle was the first round. Okay, that's a different guy, but close.
Starting point is 00:06:39 Minnesota and San Jose of late. And then you've got more established veteran guys who are you're not going to be chasing ceiling, but you know that they've been NHLers. And that's really who's so and Peter Morazick, that one of those two guys are. Peter Morazick still? I still remember talking about Peter Morazzo.
Starting point is 00:06:56 The World Juniors. Oh, my God. And so if you were to say to a jury of independent goalie nerds and say, are any of these guys better than what the flames have, you probably get a few yeses. But is it worth the hassle on how much upgrade is there? That's all up to debate. And that's where the flames goaltending department with Jordan Siglett and Jason and Barbara.
Starting point is 00:07:13 And their stats guys and Connie will put their heads together and say, who's out there? What kind of chaos does this cause if we try to get both these guys to the A? We'll see. You know you'd be sitting there last night if you're Siglett or whatever, you're thinking. I wonder if I figure I can maybe sleep in tomorrow. I like it. You know what? I might get a workout in and then get to the rink around 10, 11. No, I think probably, sorry, babe. We're going to break some tape down in the morning.
Starting point is 00:07:40 I'm going to be up early, heading off to work probably early. I don't think we'll be grabbing pumpkin spice lattes before I head in. Yeah, and again, it's like the team is shitting from both of them. Yeah. We're not supposed to talk about the game anymore. Let's just. Well, we didn't make the, I mean, we can, we can agree on it. We don't have to right now.
Starting point is 00:07:58 I don't want to pressure you guys, but I'm good. I'd pink you swear to that. Nice.
