Hey, look at us.
Back with another edition of Barnburner.
It's Boomer, it's Pinder, it's Red Warner.
Our first late start of the season, game one, first eight o'clock start.
We've all here.
We've all made it. We've survived it.
There was a close call.
Was there really?
We don't usually bring, let's go to the jack cam early here in the program.
Really?
Who deserves a back rub and maybe a rose or a nicely cooked
dinner in your house. The girlfriend for sure. Tell us why. Um, I was sleeping. My alarm went off.
I kind of dozed back off. I get woken up at 8.45. She says, when's the show start? I said 10.
And I put on my pants and I left. Good. Good that you didn't sleep in your pants.
I'm glad you wore your pants. Good thing. Yeah, yeah. Kept your shirt on. Just not your pants.
Yeah, that's good. Now, are you, uh, I don't want to get too into it. I mean, we've got to get into
this hockey game last night, but are you, are you living with a significant other?
Are you living in sin?
Yes, I do.
Separate rooms.
Separate rooms.
Well, there you go.
Retro, good to see you.
We had a hell of a time.
Lost a living in sin.
Yeah.
Really?
Yeah.
Sinful every day.
Yeah, he's married, but living in sinning.
No, no, it's the Rob Ray thing.
That's the sinning.
They're a thruple, I think, is the terminology now.
Yeah, whatever you want to call it.
Is that what it is?
You missed a hell of a time at Greta last night, buddy.
I know there was, no, again,
when we did the show yesterday,
there was some talk you were going to be there.
But we collaborated.
And he was.
He was going to be there at that moment.
That was not a joke.
Some executive decisions were made.
Shuffling.
So you missed out.
You missed out on dome beers and
nuggets and hot dogs
and a flames victory.
But thanks to everybody over at Greta,
they treated us great last night.
Awesome room.
Yeah.
Our live event partners
from a cloud law
showed up on mass.
Three, three tables full of
McLeod law folk came and were rooting
hard. Somebody in Peter Klein's
group is like a top five Zedorov fan
on earth and I couldn't get enough of it.
I just thought it was sensational.
Secondary assist, huge fist bumps.
Zedorov! Yeah, I think it's
actually, it might have been Peter's daughter.
She was calling for another Zadorov hat trick
didn't he have a hat trick on the last game of last year.
You got to keep it going. You got to keep it going.
He had some big hits. He did.
Yeah, he looks. He's still Zodorov.
Hey, that's the thing about Nikita.
He hasn't changed.
He's still very Nikita Zadora.
But a great time for everybody.
Thanks.
We gave away some tickets to an outdoor game.
We had some jerseys to give away.
And we're going to be doing this throughout the season.
It's not going to be every week,
but we're going to have a chance for you to join us.
We're going to go to Greta.
They got a great little room there.
Got your own bar.
They got the TVs up there.
Awesome.
So we're going to be going back to Greta throughout the hockey season.
So thanks to Casey and everybody at Greta
for the hosting.
accommodations last night.
And a big a shout-out to
kids sport as well who were there selling
raffle tickets and that's how people end up getting
to some sort of outdoor game in Edmonton people are excited about.
I'm not sure which one.
But yeah.
That's for the kids, right?
That's right.
We give and we give and we give.
We love the kids.
Big win for the Calgary Flames.
Five to three.
A dominating performance from the home team last night.
From start to finish,
really little doubt that they were going to
away with the two points.
Yeah, kind of as expected.
Just drop the pocket.
Let them go.
I mean.
No, they were outplayed.
They were badly outplayed.
There were quite a few mistakes.
On TV.
Yeah, because on TV where I was sitting,
on TV it looked like it was the opposite.
Yeah.
Yeah, Winnipeg, probably a little sour,
leaving the dome without a point last night.
At least a point.
Probably should have had two, maybe.
But, hey, it's the role reversal.
We talked about it on an afterburner last night.
A year ago, you couldn't get a save or you'd ill-timed goals on your goaltender.
You'd be out playing and out-shooting the opposition and you can't win.
And last late, it was your goalie bailing you out, saving your bacon.
And then you found a way to win it.
He did bail you out, but he still.
There's one or two things you could have changed.
One shot.
Yeah.
Eat it.
Yeah, it's five something left, like under six minutes.
We're talking to the jets out there.
Like, we don't need any more chaos.
grab a whistle, slow this down, Marky.
Not the tip and bed cover where you jump up and then
land on the puck. That's right.
That would have worked as long as it was under a peg.
That would have been better.
How many times last year,
if I told you shots were 10-2,
but the team that were down 10-2 in shots,
they were leading 1-0 at some point.
It felt like every single
time that happened last year, it was the flames down
1-0. And for the game 1 of this year,
which is 1 of 82, it means nothing,
it was the other way.
And so I think there was a bit of release,
and it was a fun win for the fan base
because we just didn't see any like it last year.
Wow.
They were the victim of those games all the time.
And after they tied it up,
what was everyone in the city expecting?
Well, here we go again.
Here we go.
And it's that shot too, right?
After all those great saves early,
and I think if it wasn't Kyle Connor,
I think I give him some credit because he just,
like, would you like fries with that?
40 goals every year.
I don't know.
He does something to change you angle there,
but you wish Markstrom had that one for sure.
So with that, it's one game.
It's so hard.
We were doing the after burner last night.
How much analysis can you pour into one game?
I'll say this.
There's a few takeaways and I want to get your thoughts on them.
It's not bad to see Markstrom play like he did last night because I don't know what you.
Two or three, those first two or three shots like this is going in.
This is the same shit from a year ago.
And he looked, he looked very good.
Again, aside from that one shot, he's the.
reason they win last night.
And we'll have to
be apparently, play that way.
Well, if they play like that.
Jesus.
We, right?
Like, yeah. Husk's post game was interesting too,
Rhett, because he said, look, I didn't think our
structure was bad. I thought we just turned over the puck
an S ton. Like, it wasn't that we were in the
wrong spots. It's that we continually gave
the puck to the Jets.
And that's, you know, I think
that's probably a good read on things.
It wasn't that guys were in the wrong spots.
there were some open looks on the powerplay in front.
But at five on five,
it was just like,
how are we having so many DZone turnovers here,
fellas?
What's happening?
Listen,
let's,
we can get deep into the weeds.
Awesome.
They get a win.
Awesome to see Markson.
They did have some chance.
The power plays goal are the guys you wanted to see.
What's Montchapani going to do?
Huberto.
Great.
You know,
Zedorov,
we talked about him.
Great.
You know,
Uigher.
Anderson getting in on the scoring.
Lots of good things.
One game.
If we want to, if we want, we can very easily.
How do we get out shot at home in a opening game and get out played early?
How are we not?
How usually you expect the home team to come out and the opposition team.
Okay, we're going to have to weather the storm here.
And it wasn't really the case.
So, but I don't think we need to go down.
that road yet. I think that the things we are worried about, Markstrom, probably the most specific,
played a hell of a game. Well, I was going to ask you, I had it written down. When we get to the
60-70 game mark in the season and the team gets a win, our whole thing is no style points. We don't
care. A wins a win. Two points is two points. Is it the same in game one? I kind of think it is.
Winning ugly is not bad at any time. And especially for this club with so many changes and so many
eyeballs and expectations, just the whole thing.
There's so much different about this team.
You found a way when you weren't at your best.
Well done.
We talked about it last night on After Burner, do you know, it's the same thing with the road trip.
If you're a veteran group like Colorado, Tampa, Toronto, I don't think it matters
that much, whether you're on the road or you're winning or you lose game one.
This group is feeling very good right now.
Everyone that's come to Calgary and checked down on the scene, said, man, the vibes are good in Calgary.
That all goes away if you lose 8-3 last night.
And it could have been that with an ugly.
start from Markstrom because they gave up way too much.
You'd hate to give up eight goals in the first game of the season.
Eight, it feels too high.
I'm exaggerating to make an example.
No one would give up eight in a game.
I'm sorry, I'm exaggerated to make a point.
But for this group, with everything so new, the good times get to keep going for a little bit.
They would have face planted and is like, okay, of course it was fun before we lost,
but now reality sets in.
Well, they're still feeling good for another couple days as they head on the road.
And that would have been a tough playing that game.
If they had lost, that would be.
Hey, how's the smiles?
Let's ask you some serious questions, but I'm happy for Markstrom.
I mean, I just, if he can stay loose and play well, that's, I think it's the key to everything.
Yeah.
I really do.
It's just, goaltending undoes so much and can cover up so much.
And right, you talked about that team you played on 0304, and we're not asking anyone to be Mika Kippersoft.
but when you get a goalie in a zone,
man, it's just, there's nothing better than that.
You can have a guy that scores 60,
you can have the best power play in the league,
you can be the tightest team structurally.
The hot goalie trumps all of that.
Well, and that's the thing that I see with this squad
is that they aren't,
they should be fine offensively.
They are good defensively,
but they're not going to overwhelm you with structure and pace
and this and that.
So they're going to have to win by committee.
And if you've got a goaltender
that keeps you in games, you're there.
Like, that's, every game you've got your chance to have a victory.
If you've got subpar goal tending, you will not,
because they aren't good enough just to own the puck for two-thirds of the game.
They're just, they're not going to be that much more talented than other teams.
So Markstrom's massive for them.
Message coming in on the chat, on the show chat here from absolutely snot-bubbled.
So ASB chiming in.
Does having fun mean not playing defense?
They were having fun last night.
Listen, I'm going to, this is a broader view of things.
Defense and traditional defensive play is gone.
It doesn't exist.
Explain that.
For a couple of reasons.
It's not taught, which is the biggest thing.
You go to practices and stuff, whether you're a D or a forward,
if you're not a goaltender, they aren't spending hardly any time on coverage in front of the net.
It's three on threes and small area games and skill development and pace.
Nobody's, and there's reasons for that.
I think the biggest one is that with, they aren't new rules,
but since 2005,
the hooking and holding
plan D is
and teaching it is damn hard
and not that that's an excuse not to do it
but it's damn hard because even if you try to do it
some of the stuff you're teaching is almost
you're teaching a penalty how do you cover a guy
how do you how do you pin a guy in the corner
well you used to stick your
stick between his legs and hold them there
one two three frick I can remember
practices where we did it for half an hour
literally had to count out loud.
Okay, pin him. One, two, three, release, right?
Like, it's a different, it's, you almost can't do it.
And it's not that you shouldn't do it, but there's not a, there's not a blueprint for playing
solid D anymore.
Like, how would you teach a kid to defend Connor McDavid?
It's just like, pray?
Exactly.
The skill is so high.
And it's kind of like playing defensive back in the NFL.
they've been all these rules they've been changing the last 10 years is really offense friendly.
If there's incidental contact, it usually goes against the defender, not the offensive player.
They're trying to create offenses.
It's like you just got to tip your cap.
That's how the game is these days, right?
Isn't it?
Like there's just so many guys that can do nasty things with the puck.
It's true.
I'll start again, but the two teams that I watch the most are the Sabres and the Flames because I'm here and I watch the flames.
Well, the Sabres have the same issues.
wide open opportunities in front of their own net to the point where you're going,
what in the F are they doing?
But I'm guessing,
and it might be,
I could be way off.
I'm guessing,
but I believe that that's probably a common theme around the league nowadays.
Because it's harder.
It's not harder.
It is harder because the players are better.
And the other thing is,
too,
we talk about,
latch onto them.
Yeah,
you talk about the type of player that's being drafted now.
and coveted by teams.
It's no longer the big, rugged.
Well, yeah, because you got to keep up to these forwards.
You got to be able to play them without fouling them on every single shift.
You need to have elite skill on the back end to defend elite skill up front.
And that's why it's tough for some of these young D man.
Unless you're a world-class skater, you're going to have a hard time getting into the league.
And you can still do better.
I think that teams need to do a better job.
And for me, it's just the slot coverage
because I think that kids and players get so frickin' puck focused
that they almost lose themselves in the slot.
No, it ain't easy because those guys are moving
and it's a fast, blah, blah, blah.
But I still think that the guys can do a better job,
finding guys in front of that
and just eliminating those wide open opportunities.
They are playing a new defense.
system in their own end in terms of what
responsibilities the defensemen have.
I don't expect that last night is the finished
product at all. And I'm not suggesting you're saying that.
But it will be interesting to see how
they can tighten that up because that
was the weakest part of their game last night
was their end zone play, whether that's
not being where you're supposed to be or what Huska said,
which is just like, stop giving the talk to the other
team, fellas.
Fellas.
Fellas.
You made the comment, I think it might have been earlier
this week. We were talking about the practice lines
or the lines through camp.
Sharon Govich for a while was on that top right side with Lindholm and Huberto,
and then flopped to Manjapani.
And then more recently, Dylan Dubay got that start.
Last night, as things started to go into the blender a little bit,
Huska looking for a little bit of something.
Madjipani goes back up to the top line and made some things happen.
It's a great play.
Terrific play on the game winning goal for Lindholm.
the empty netter.
Scores on the power play.
The second power play unit
gets the opening goal of the game.
And you would say, is that great
that we've seen guys auditioning?
I wonder,
it feels like, go ahead, Andrew.
Have a bounce back year.
Get those numbers back.
And there's no better opportunity for that
than playing with those two guys.
I don't mind that.
I mean, it's two things, right?
It's some guys not doing enough to stay
on the top line.
It's on Japani doing better to get up there, right?
Like, I don't like in the first game or through training camp that they're
monkey in with the lines too much, but it happens.
And I guess the point I'm trying to get to is I don't think Sharon Govich and
cadre have stood out enough.
And that's, I think if you want this team to be, have that depth that we believe we have,
they have to be better.
And that was the thing too, because we said yes.
No, sorry, I don't tell you.
Hey,
Nazim, here's Sharon Govich and here's Coronado.
Congrats.
You get some of the new guys.
We'll make those work.
He is a veteran guy.
I think we'll probably end up talking about Sharon Govich and not to get on the guy
after one game, but he's probably as, you know, he was on the penalty kill,
made some plays.
I didn't see him a whole lot in the offensive zone.
I want to ask about Coronado, though, nearly scores.
it was 10 minutes in.
On the back door almost had his first.
Oh, man.
I would have been dancing.
Plus 2200.
200 if he tucks that one in.
And it looks like he kind of shortsided a bit.
He caught the post.
Oh, he's going to be just fine.
He's around it.
Looks comfortable.
And we talked about the rotation on the top line.
Like, I still think if Lindholm and Hubert O are going to be a good fit together,
it almost doesn't really matter who's there.
I'm just not sure that they are.
fit at this point yet but if they're going to keep swinging guys through why not at some point give
coronado a look the only thing i worry about with manjipani there is i really like the idea of someone
that can fly on that opposite wing of huberto and and not the magic candy can't manjepenny can't
skate but you knew that you know with dubey there or sharon govich there you could say ah yes the
speed quotient surreal there would you give coronado a shot there at some point i don't think it's a bad
idea at all i think they're going to use everybody there because it's her only right shot like dour and him
to play the way.
I think he'll get a chance up there.
And if he can make it work,
but I think what you said is more important,
can Lindholm and Hubert will make it work.
And that's the thing.
How do you make it work?
Leave them together long enough to have some success
as opposed to it's not working, break them up.
Did it work?
Well, no, because it wasn't working.
Wow.
They're world-class players.
I agree with you to a certain extent, though.
We'll see.
I don't need to, we don't need to.
we don't need to go too deep into it because again it's it feels like it's a fresh start for everyone
and last year is one of those throwaways and we didn't see them together a bunch last year
but there was lots behind the scenes that made you think maybe it's not a thing that can work
i'm not convinced it it's a slam dunk to work but i'm kind of with both you that you got to give
them the chance to make it work because it's probably on paper your best chance at having a
legit top line. Lindholm, I didn't think was, you know, incredibly noticeable offensively until
he scored the biggest goal of the game, but they quietly dominant on the faceoff dot.
We're talking rare air top 10 flames ever performances in a faceoff doll. We'll get to that in the
Pinda report. And Huberto ends up with two helpers when all said and done. And if it's Manjipani
that helps spark that great. It might not be him next time they're out there.

Frankie Boy, the barnstorming tour began last night in Calgary,
two assists for Hubert O.
a good night for Lindholm like Ryan said.
It was maybe a little quiet,
but it finishes with a goal and two assists,
and Manjapani two and one as the top line
kind of leads the way as the flames hang on,
sort of for a victory.
It wasn't a dominating effort.
But you take wins.
Game one, game 60, 70, it don't matter.
And against the playoff team from last year,
that after a big emotional week,
resigning Hellebuck and Shifley,
you know, you're off to a great start.
And a lot of the things that you wanted to see happen,
I think the bit, you know, you can talk about,
Ubertoe and the assists and, you know,
Lindholm getting a big,
Mangapani, if he's anywhere close to 35 this year,
huge boost for the flames.
Yeah, we talked about it last night.
Last year has a down year.
We find at the end of the season,
it's because he had injured his shoulder,
well, part of it is he injured his shoulder
early on in the season, it didn't feel right.
You go under the knife, you rehab, you come back,
and you hope to
I would think somewhere in your head
do I still have it?
Can I get back to that
that spot where I was
to have that kind of a night
you can't hope for much more.
Yeah kid you got it.
You're good.
Now just relax and play your game.
Well,
I think it's important to answer the question
sort of once and for all.
What is Andrew Mandjapani?
I think he had that year
and everyone was like,
oh, where'd that come from?
and can he actually do it again?
And I think it was a question that some believe probably didn't get answered last year
or maybe did and had a negative result.
And so now to raise the question again is so it's a shot in the arm for this team
to even have that be, hey, this is what we're counting on.
This is what we think he is.
You were in Pittsburgh.
You must love that as a Philly guy.
You must love getting to Pittsburgh and enjoying Steel City.
Yeah, great time.
I have two things from that.
I'll start with Connor Bedard, front row seat to watch the young man.
Thoughts?
Pretty awesome.
You see the first NHL goal in Boston 24 hours later, two games, two points.
I predicted crazy high bar 102 this year as a bold prediction.
People were falling over.
That's not possible.
can't do that on a bad team. I'm like, Sidney Crosby did it on a bad team in 0506. That
Penn's team had 58 points. Why can't Connor Bedard do that playing alongside Taylor Hall, who of course
is now going to miss the next few weeks. But there's not a single thing that Connor Baudard does
that isn't impressive. And it's something as simple as the quiet and calm confidence that he has.
I was talking to Hall after the game in Pittsburgh, and he said, you know, he goes, here I am.
I've played however many years in this league, 15.
And he goes, I'm nervous.
It's my first game as a Black Hawk.
We had our first kid two days ago.
I haven't slept.
I'm unprepared.
And I'm on a foam roller stretching before the game right next to Bedar.
And he goes, you'd have no idea this kid's about to play his first NHL game.
No nerves.
and I think unlike me and Rhett
as we're about to take a test in school,
when you're actually prepared to,
you know, for that moment,
you don't really need nerves.
Is that what's required?
I got to be prepared?
Just some stray bullets there,
Warner sitting there.
Seriously.
He knew himself in the same thing.
Drive back.
There's no reason to take that kind of a shot.
Now secondly,
and I was going to ask you about this the other day
and you're kind of, hey,
we got all season to talk about this.
Not often can you,
you think back,
a number of years ago,
get a Norris trophy winner,
over a point per game defenseman.
They're just not available.
You can't get them.
And not only did Pittsburgh get one,
the cost was relatively, you know,
it's crazy that this world were in
that you could make that sort of thing happen.
Now, that's said,
more isn't always more.
And I just wonder,
we kind of saw it with Carlson and Burns in San Jose.
Are we going to see the same thing in Pittsburgh
where it's Latang and Eric Carlson,
where you feel like it's an embarrassment of riches, and I guess it is, but is it going to equal
success on the ice? I'm not sure. And I think that there's a real possibility that, and just
so that no one thinks that I'm sitting here being Pollyannish about this, I've been saying this for
weeks. You can get to Chris LaTang in the summer, and you can ask him about his feelings adding
another Norris trophy winner to the blue line. And these, what's he going to say? No, I hand.
this like i i prefer my own like of course he's going to say all the right things and i'm not saying
even or suggesting that anything is nefarious here or that he's unhappy or or anything but the fact of
the matter is this the pittsburgh penguins on uh tuesday night set a north american pro sports
record 19 consecutive years with sidney crosbie of guinea malkin and chris latang all playing
on the same team that's almost two full decades of power play
movement, chemistry, everything that's worked there has been with that guy at the top as the
quarterback. Now, it's pretty impressive to take Chris LaTang and put him on PP2, but there's going to be
an adjustment period for everyone and Carlson just getting together on the first power play,
which it's also kind of ridiculous to think that there's three SureFire Hall of Famers on one unit,
Carlson, Crosby, and Malkin, and all the trophies that they have between Norris and
hearts and Art Rosses. But there was a thing in San Jose, and it wasn't just his ankle,
that I think Eric Carlson just ran out of oxygen with Brent Burns there. And that, you know,
you need that space to be able to do what makes you so special. And I'll add in yet a third
layer to this, and this is probably more important than the power play or anything else.
And Rhett, maybe you'd be able to better speak to this than me.
The Pittsburgh Penguins do not do a good enough job defending in their own end.
You now add in Eric Carlson, who's maybe hockey's ultimate freelancer, and I say that
in a really complimentary way, because he can do so many things that no one else can.
But you add him into the mix, and all of a sudden he needs to play within a structure and a
scheme, as opposed to the San Jose Sharks just being like, oh,
what the hell we don't have anything else might as well let him do whatever he wants and all the sudden
maybe if you're not defending well enough it doesn't really matter how much you score you need to do that
in order to win and so you see them cough up their lead against the black hawks because they can't get out of
their own end i i never liked the move i think it was it was him going carlson going to pittsburgh was
like adding him to edmonton there's only one puck there's one puck and they got enough guys to handle the
that wasn't their shortfall, right?
Like that wasn't their demise, was that,
well, we need a guy in the power plate to run it from the point.
And I actually, I'm with you.
My prediction would be that this does not work.
And the guys get sour about it eventually.
I mean, maybe that's going too far.
But I don't see, if I'm baking a cake,
that's an unnecessary part of the recipe.
I think that there's other things that I would have put.
put in there. I don't, I don't think it's going to be a, as good as he is, as good as they all are.
I don't think that that puck can get shared that much.
Damn, I want to know what's going in Rett's cake. He's a hell of a baker.
How many boozes are in a rat cake?
I was at, he's got a bourbon cake or rum.
Some Amaretto in there. Oh, yeah. I was at Nona's for breakfast yesterday and she gave me a piece
of cake and a little side of, of whiskey to dip it in. Oh, good.
Anyone ever have a tequila cake?
I bet Redd has.
Probably.
I've had a tequila puke.
Not like Thatcher Demko last night?
Is that what happened?
Because when he left the game, people are like, oh my gosh, Demko's back and now he's gone.
What's going on?
Yeah, Rick Tock came out after the game and said, I pulled him because he had the flu and he threw up in his mask.
I believe.
Not ideal.
I mean, the only position in the sport where you actually have a chin cup, I mean,
I can see things getting a little messy there.
So let's stay on that game there.
Oh, go ahead.
Let red go.
I want to back.
Sorry, Pender.
Before you go to that game.
Because we've talked about.
What are we getting ourselves into?
This is actually a hockey question that I really have been thinking about with
Baderd and all the hype.
The,
and well deserved.
Le Frenier with the Rangers,
it's the exact opposite.
Yeah.
Clearly there are two different players,
but how does it become that drastic?
And what are they going to do in New York with that kid?
My God, I can't believe we went from puke to Rhett actually asking a hockey question.
I could follow it up with a matured before our eyes.
It's like, we are getting somewhere.
Yes.
Kind of disappointed.
Yeah, me too.
I would say that first off, the hype around Alexei Lafernier was misplaced.
And I saw him at World Day.
say that again
Alexander Degg
I think he's more talented
than Degg
I don't I didn't see Degg up close and personal
the big issue with Alexi La Pernier
for me is he can't he doesn't move well enough
it's not effort
it's not care it's not
talent
I just don't think he skates well enough to
keep up maybe I'm proven wrong this year
and he breaks through
but he was never in the generational
category I think what happened was
we had been so spoiled for so long with
McDavid and Matthews
that we then ended up kind of being like,
okay, who's the next guy?
When are we going to, you know,
Dahlene was in that mix.
And then it was like he was kind of off to a slow start.
And you're always looking for the,
this like sort of next,
especially in Canada,
the next great Canadian hope.
Who is that guy?
And people wanted to make it Lafranier,
but it wasn't him.
And so that's why I,
for the longest time had been really shy about using the generational moniker when it came to talking about
badard because I think you have to be really judicious in how you use it. You can't throw it around
like an anvil because it's just not. There's only eight guys ever that are in that same
sort of track.
You know, you can go from Bobby Orr and make your way all the way through to, you know,
Gretzky, Lemieux, Lindross, and keep going down the list.
Crosby, you know, McDavid, it's a really short group.
But I'm telling you right now, Connor Bedard is in that group.
Watching him, talking to everyone that's seen him, he's there.
Taylor Hall talked to him for a while after the game.
He said, look, I don't want to give you a headline.
I don't want to make this a big deal,
but he's the real deal.
And the best junior career since Gretzky pretty much.
That's something,
because there's been some guys that have Torch Jr.
And World Junior, best World Junior since Gretzky,
like no one's really done that either.
All right.
You were going to go somewhere, Ryan?
Yeah, just, okay, it's overreaction Thursday.
Noodles, we chatted with him yesterday,
and he said it's going to be funny tomorrow
because all the Canadian teams play
and everyone's going to be one and O and one.
Everyone's going to be on pace for 82 losses,
ready to wins.
And so here we are.
What happened in Edmonton?
Because you were there, you had the vibe check there.
You also did in Vancouver where you noted that it was very, very business atmosphere for Rick Tocke in this first full season.
Like it's one game, but what do we take away from it?
Do you flush it or are there some things there that you're like, we've got to watch that?
So because it's overreaction Thursday, I refuse to participate.
I would say I'm way more impressed with Vancouver than I am disappointed and concerned about Edmonton, if that's there.
The Canucks have, they're facing immense pressure, and we talked about this.
It's not really all that different than the flames to get off to a good start.
You can't sink your season by mid-November.
You know, they've done it for the last 10 years, more or less.
And they couldn't afford to do that this year, not to say that they won't, but to show up,
the way that they did, attention to detail, effort, winning battles. They just, they mauled the
Oilers from puck drop. And that, that was pretty impressive to watch because as a result, you see an
Edmonton team that kind of just like cruise through the, the preseason. I mean, not really much to
think about. They have big expectations, but they're not, you know, you can't win the Stanley Cup in
October, and that's what they've kept telling themselves. But they looked like a team that was confused,
communicate, was flat-footed, all those things that you look at in the first 20 to 40 minutes
of a season and you just shrug off, and I'm sure they will. But certainly for Vancouver to do that
on home ice is, it's important. Besser, 18 goals last year. He's got 81 games to get another
14 to hit last year. I think that's a safe over. But what does that mean for them if he can return to
that elite scoring winger status.
This was a guy that people wouldn't even take for his contract for free.
He's the manjapani of Vancouver, right?
In the sense that he had done it kind of once before.
You had, you know, can he get back to that level?
He's now being paid closer to that level.
For whatever reason, instead of scoring like he did to start,
became more of a playmaker.
All I'll say is this.
You know, it's hard for us to understand.
and I think sometimes we're liberal in giving players a pass.
But these last two years for Brock Besser were really hard.
Personally, professionally, you know, what his dad went through is so incredibly difficult.
To get it kind of a clean slate now to end last year and say, you know what, I'm not asking for a trade.
I really like it here and want to be here and see this through.
I thought that meant something.
And he wasn't the only one who did it on opening night.
Connor Garland's been, his name has been in the news all week.
And he opens up the scoring with a nifty little goal.
Like, I just think the vibe is totally different in Van.
I think their team is better.
I think they've got a long way to go, but I like what I see.
Is it going too far?
Because it's not like the Oilers have just overnight become a popular pick as a maybe a Stanley Cup favorite.
But are, is there are, are teams now really going to get up to play the Edmondson?
in Oilers? Is there, because I feel like there's more of a focus now. So many people have picked the
Oilers. They've had McDavid and Drysitle for a while. But I just wonder, I just wonder. And for
Red as a defenseman, you would have to sit in the locker room. When you're playing one team, it's,
that's pretty balanced. I don't know if there's any one guy. But if you're going against another team,
it's like, well, these guys are good. And they've got one of the best players in the world,
two of the best players in the world. I got to be ready tonight. I just wonder if the
oilers are going to run into that. Maybe a gauntlet here and there of teams that are, we're
fucking ready for you. I think they're ready for
him last year. Doesn't it been a half decade of that?
Yeah. Where have you been?
I'm not saying that
McDavid is overnight because it's just
it's the first time people have faith
in the Oilers. It's before it was, their
goal tending isn't good enough. They don't have enough on
the blue line. Now it's like no they got at home
and they brought in. There's some
belief that they finally have a more
complete team that could let them
truly contend for a Stanley Cup.
Ret, you can answer
this, but if you're not getting up to play Connor
McDavid and the oilers like you will be shitting your pants in the first six minutes.
You got it all backwards, man.
Those are the days.
You're duping in your helmet.
That's where you don't feel well and you might have, you know, maybe.
The Philly flu.
Shoulder injury.
That's just, I'm not quite sure I can go kind of scenario.
It's no sense embarrassing yourself.
It's the Philly flu.
Anytime anyone would pull in.
Never had the Philly flu loved going into Philly and knocking a piss out of the flyers.
one of my favorite things to do.
Pull into the
spectrum.
If whoever's got that picture of me in the box,
somebody's put it so Frankie can see it.
Yeah.
So did you play a lot in the spectrum or no?
Yeah,
we beat the last game in the spectrum with Florida.
Mike Huff,
double O.T.
scoring on Ronnie Hextall.
Boom!
Suck it!
Lindrosse.
See, you get up to play the stars,
Dean, you see?
Yeah,
I was playing Lindrosse.
You got the best set of them.
Not bubbled Lindros.
Like,
almost every game that series.
It's not bubbled.
Yeah, absolutely.
Where's the biggest hot seat?
Is it Pittsburgh?
Because I feel like,
they're,
for who?
For the coach?
No chance.
That guy,
Mike Sullivan,
is like bulletproof.
He got a five-year extension from ownership.
He,
like,
outside of Ron Hextall,
this is before Kyle Dubas came in.
He is as locked in as they get.
He is like the safest coach.
It's like him, Rod Brindamore and maybe a couple others are like the safest guys in the league.
Where do you go for a hotzee?
That's interesting.
Ottawa.
I mean, it's not really, it's not that bold or interesting.
It's Jay McKeown.
This is a fifth consecutive year for DJ Smith.
Gotta get off to a good start.
Every year three after the rebuild's been over per the GM that now has a director of hockey ops or president of hockey ops above them.
Like I think they're good.
but it's times a ticking.
Inexcusable, unforgivable if they get off to a bad start.
And guess what?
You know, it's not going to help yourself?
Being in Capel to start the year, not being able to sign Shane Pinto,
because the deal's done.
I believe they've agreed to terms.
I believe they've got everything hammered out.
And they're sitting here waiting for Pierre Dorian to pull the trigger and move a contract
and or put Josh Norris on LTIR to buy them three weeks to then,
figure this out and get Shane Pinto playing.
But starting the year without Josh Norris, look, that hurts in and of itself.
But because of your own errors in managing this and not being able to get Shane Pinto
done at a reasonable number is, again, it's in the line of unforgivable.
Before we let you go, Frankie, we appreciate you.
Here in Calgary last night for fans that would have watched, go ahead.
Philly.
You're going to the ball game?
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Oh, yeah, I'm going to the ballgame tonight.
Are you?
Oh, yeah, taking the fam.
Are they doing it?
All four of us.
I mean, you missed the hit of the series last night.
That, that mean muggin that Harper gave the shortstop, that is something.
It's like, I tweeted it out hanging in the Louvre.
Like, it's just, who you idiot.
Like, so, Rhett, if you, I'm trying to think of like a,
a hockey
it'd be like saying
like good error
Connor McDavid
nice screw up in game
two of the series
but saying it loud enough
I did it to Gretzky
come on Florida versus
we were playing the Rangers
frick and I cross-checked
Gretzky in the ribs
classic
and he turns around
and gives me a two-hander
and he gets a penalty
I'm like, ha ha ha, suck it, Wayne.
Yeah, I kind of stuck it in her.
Okay, but you weren't dumb enough after the game in front of media in your own dressing
room and be like, ha, good one, Wayne.
Like, that's what this guy did and said it loud enough for people that are reporters to tweet it.
And then he turns around and jams it up his ass twice.
And as he's rounding the bases, the death's there.
So I said my nine year old
We're watching the game last night
And I'm like God, I love Harper
He's stone cold killer
My guy looks at me
He goes, isn't that a bad thing?
And I was like, no.
Come on.
Are you kidding me?
That's exactly what you want.
Is he a hated figure outside of Philly?
How can he's one of the-
Rice Harper?
Well, that's the thing.
Usually when you're one of the game's best,
there's going to be,
you're cocky and the hair.
He's very flamboyant.
I just want to,
he would seem to be hateable.
if you're into that sort of thing, but I dig him.
I just, he, I have so much respect for him because he was on the cover of Sports Illustrated
at age 16 and to follow through at every point in your career, multi-time MVP, 300 plus
million dollar contract to routinely deliver on expectations is hard to do.
And I just think there's something to be said for when people hype you up time and time
again, McDavid has done a great job at this.
He's lived up, like,
McDavid doesn't have any of the same panache,
the same personality,
but to live up to an incredible level of hype is,
is not easy.
Is he the King of Philly or is it in Bede or like,
who else is in that conversation?
Jalen Hertz maybe.
It would be Jalen Hertz would be the only other guy in the conversation,
but I don't even think it's really close right now who the star athlete in Philly is.
Jason Kelsey?
He's everywhere.
right now. He's, he, uh, his brother. Yeah. Um, yeah. I would say, I would say he's, he's up there, but it's, it's
Bryce Harper. So before we let you go, uh, last night, heartbreaking to watch at Center Ice is Kelsey
Snow and, uh, Cohen and Willa, her, uh, her kids dropped the puck. Of course, Chris Snow,
assistant GM of the flames long struggled with ALS and passed away recently. The, uh, ceremony will be
held the memorial service today.
And Brad for Living, former Flames GM, gave Chris his first job, gave him that job in the analytics department.
And he will be doing the eulogy today.
And I know you had a chance to kind of chat with Brad here recently.
Yeah.
And this was actually a really emotional thing for me to put together today.
I was actually kind of crying my way through it.
It's a piece.
I don't, you know, I don't come on here and ask you guys to.
read my stuff or click on my stuff or promote it. I'm not a shameless promoter, but I'd appreciate it
if you gave it a read to get a sense of, if you didn't know Chris Snow, what kind of person and
Manny is. Brad Tree Living poured his heart out yesterday for 75 minutes with me on the phone, and you're
going to hear some of it today at the eulogy, I'm sure, but it is a sort of start to finish from
the second he arrived in Calgary and inherited Chris Snow as part of the staff.
to getting to know him, building the trust through the flames,
hockey ops, and really some of the toughest, darkest moments that he dealt with,
how he handled it all with class and toughness.
And I just, I can't say enough about what he went through in his battle and the support
that a lot of people offered him along the way.
It's going to be really amazing to see, I wish I could have made it out there today,
to see everyone from the hockey world pour in.
I got messages from multiple GMs since I posted the story saying they were on their way to Calgary and landing soon.
And it's just there are no words.
So I didn't have to come up with any.
These are all Brad Tree Living's words.
So it's all flow of consciousness from Brad.
And I appreciate his trust to tell the story.
And I'm really thankful to get it out there.
It's an incredible read.
kudos on that and to Brad as well.
There's a lot of stuff that I don't think,
especially in this old hockey guy sort of sphere.
We'll just tuck that inside.
We're not going to talk about that.
So good on both you for doing it.
It was a great read this morning.
And just for clarity,
where to find that article, Frank?
Dailyfaceoff.com.
I also tweeted a link.
It's grab a tissue.
All right.
Thanks, Frank.
Always appreciate you.
Have a great time at the ballgame.
See you guys.
You bet.

Busy show still, boys.
We got a thing, we got a Pinder report.
As we said, it's kind of, it was a sneak of people.
for the NHL two nights ago. Last night, three or first night. Um, we got some ask
ret coming up. Got a lot to get to. Got a lot to get to. And, and Betway Betts coming up.
I'm curious, Pinder. Did you go hockey or football tonight? I go one of each. Yeah.
Because I went into the football and, and rightfully, it's not Betway. It's just you've got the
chiefs and the Broncos. And one team is really good and the other one's really bad. So it's hard.
It's hard to find some value.
So I went back to the hockey sked tonight.
So we'll do our Betway.
I did my best to find some value.
And I think you'll like where I'm going here because it's kind of against the grain.
And I wanted something on that Thursday game because I want to have some sort of stake in that.
It should be hopefully a good game.
Divisional.
When is the last time a stranger has come up and embraced you?
Stranger.
I'm not keen on a strangers embrace.
Yeah, you got one last night.
I probably moved in for the kiss too.
That was quite something.
Yeah, I sure did.
Like in the comments.
I don't see him in the comments.
Mickey Taylor headbutt.
No, it was right near the end of the game.
Oh, the Walker special.
Too many beer.
It might have, it was not underserved.
The Greta staff were on their toes and were not,
they were not caught.
I wasn't paying that close attention.
I was and it was a busy
busy at that bar. I was standing beside
Peter Klein with the McLeod Law
table. We're watching the game. As you
if you watched it, as you know, it was close
near the end. So we're kind of like that. And I think this may be after
the Lindholm goal or whatever. And
a stranger walks up. And
it's a, it's one of these slow approaching
embraces. It's like, okay.
All right. You say,
whoa, boom, you need to calm down.
You're very, you're very tight.
I can feel you're very, you're very tight.
Boom, you got to calm down.
Like, well, it's stressful or it's stressful.
No, I can, I can feel.
I know what's, my dad died of a heart attack and I, I know what I'm,
you need to calm down.
Thanks, bud.
Get back.
Yeah, that's good.
Your heart racing?
Yeah, had enough.
That's good.
Thanks.
Appreciate it.
And yeah, he'll be in the comments there once in a while because he told us which guy he was.
Hey, I'm so-and-so.
But I don't like any part of it because maybe this guy knows what he's talking about.
It is a little scary.
It's awkward.
And there might be some truth to it.
Boom.
The shits for you.
Hey, boom, listen.
No, serious.
Listen.
You got to calm down.
You're really.
You need to calm down.
My dad died.
That's what he felt like.
He died of a heart attack.
You need to calm down.
He also noted to me that we can't send humans to Mars because bone density without gravity disappears and your bones will melt.
And he's like, you know that.
You're well researched.
I'm like, I didn't know that.
I know very little about things that aren't sports.
Well, yes, clearly.
That's bone density.
Everyone.
I mean, I have a gravitation.
I don't know.
He's an interesting fellow that one of the least.
boring people there last day. And the best
part was after he leaves
Peter from Cloud Lies like, I was watching every minute of it
in case it went sideways. I had your back.
My lawyer's right here.
I was at the angle right beside him. I was like, did he just kiss him on the neck?
Like this was a very close. It was very weird.
I was like, oh my God, this is awesome because I could see Boomer
like just trying to like slink out of his own body.
My lawyer is right here. And I'm not afraid to
use it. Let's do the Pinder Report. Busy one to get

Okay, here we go.
We've talked a bit about last night's game.
A reminder, if you're new here or you're,
It's been a while here.
We just want to freshen things up.
We are doing 82 postgame shows.
We did one last night after Boomer's very awkward hug.
And, well, maybe a bit of a tense crowd out of the gate at our watch party at Greta.
Let's have a little peak of what Afterburner looked and tasted like last night.
Bet the responsible way with our buddies at Betway.
So are you, you're going to hit that over on Manjapani points.
He's on page for 240, right?
Something like that.
It would have been one of those things because,
When he first came back to town, he was at that golf tournament.
And he's, I had, I had surgery.
Yeah.
I've been rehabbing.
I'm not ready for contact yet, but I'm, I, we've talked about this a little bit.
I don't think we can appreciate what it is to rehab.
You've gone in for surgery.
It's not like, oh, I'm, I'm a little stiff.
I'm going to go to the, I'm going to get a chiropractor.
I'm going to go get some physio.
You go under the knife.
Yeah.
This is your career.
And you're coming off a disappointing season.
Right.
To be able to rehab.
come back, you feel like, and I don't know, we didn't, did you pay close attention to how he was in
the preseason? He was okay, right? But how much stock do you put into preseason? Not much.
To come out and be a factor in this game and then get that bump to the top line and make the most of
it. It sucks for Dylan Dubay, who started the night there. That's a long season. Things can change.
But for right now, to come back from the surgery and cash in is great for 88.
What a goal. And what a pass and the timing of it. I mean, you feel great for the kid.
I just think of his journey. Late pick. You know, the O HL was like, are you sure you don't want to go play junior A?
Like, we don't think this is for you. I believe Dale Howardchuck was instrumental in Barry with him.
Then he goes to Stockton and literally works his way up that roster and into the Flames organization.
and then it's fourth line, second line,
or third line, second line,
and where is he tonight with the two best?
Like, how do you not cheer for this guy?
I'm sorry, it's not a six foot four,
eighth overall pick.
This is the underdog.
You'll love to see it.
Either way, you want more.
But either way, you want more from last night
of the Knoxbury.
Dudes were in sunglasses inside the club.
We got it dialed in for you,
all right?
Wherever you get your podcasts, our YouTube channel,

as well. We're back for Afterburner. Thanks again to Greta, to McLeod Law,
and to the folks of kids' sport. We raised the little bill for last night. Of course, we couldn't
do it all or any of it, really, without all our great supporters of the show that showed up to
the live watch party. We'll keep you locked in with dates on future events. Team huggers.
That's good. Team huggers. Let's get to some of the nitty-gritty from last night.
Here's Pike with some instant analysis after the game last night. It was,
unique in the sense that
these are weird ways to score goals or maybe
just a nice smattering of different ways to
score goals. Second unit power play.
Fourth line faceoff win.
Penalty kill. I'm like those.
First line face off win and then an
empty netter. That is how they got their
five goals last night. It felt like the Rasmus Anderson
won. Boys was going to be the play of the game, but then of course
Winnipeg ends up tying it. I don't
want us to forget that Anderson Shorty
because that was a big
big, I guess
what, a hinging point of the game.
albeit wiped out by the game tying goal right after.
We talked about Lindholm's dominance on the dot.
Here's Hainesie.
Hainesbaum!
Beast in the dot.
21 face-off wins, four losses.
That is rare air.
Since the 97-98 season when they started keeping track of face-offs,
eighth time ever a Calgary Flame has won 20 plus face-offs in a game.
Stefan Yale, your boy, was a sandbox rat?
Yep.
he holds the club record with 25 face-off wins and six losses against Minnesota in 03.
You would have been there for that.
I was there, unless I was hurt.
I had a broken toe at that time, actually.
How did you break it?
Play better guilty.
He is a legend.
More Hainesie.
You want to know more about 20 plus face-off wins.
I know you do.
Haynesbaum.
80 stats from 80 feet.
here we are just for me because I love the tweet
Conroy has done 21 plus twice
Andrew Castles has done it twice
yell that one we mentioned
Martin ended in what his second or first year
because he was drafted in 13th second year in the league
and Clark Wilm somehow gets on the list
you saw it red don't bury the lead Clark
Wilm once won 21 plus faceoffs
who are they playing
Who's his coach having him out there
fired that man
Jesus Brian what is this
an exhibition against Tokyo?
Like, what are we doing here?
That's commendable that you won,
but what is, you're out there way too much.
Yes, 21 wins.
Like, you shouldn't even have that many shifts.
Like, no way.
That's a very sound point.
Yeah.
That must have been an expansion team.
Who was an expansion team then?
I don't know.
Good on Clark.
And just again, a reminder that he owes you an apology
after not showing up to your roast many years ago.
Can't believe you do it.
A rude of them.
Sure.
Frank mentioned it after you,
prompted him to Dean. I had it in the Pender
report. Here's a screenshot of what's on
Daily Faceoff.com. Bradger Living
I guess paying tribute
to what Chris Snow meant to the organization
and as a human and how the strength
of the Snow family.
Frank said it right. Grab a Kleenex and read it
because it's emotional. It's incredible.
And yeah, I mean, I just feel like if you
are someone that's interested in the flames, this is
an important read. And Frank
and and Brad, both of them deserve
a tip of the cap for doing this. The
tradition is to not do things like this in the tough guy,
grown men,
you know,
contact sport universe that we,
we've watched in the NHL.
I'm glad that we're seeing this.
Awesome.
We have one other flame thing.
Item six.
I'm trying to remember what the heck is.
Oh,
here we are.
What have we got?
Throw it up for me.
Remember we talked about how bad flames were in season openers?
Last year they snapped that 010 and two mark with one over a cow.
It's two season openers in a row.
Oh, they've won, Dean.
It's easy.
Yeah.
What happens?
You're going along losing street.
You win a game.
You're going to win two for sure.
There you go.
Get a new coach.
You're going to get a win.
Guaranteed.
So Huska gets to keep stay for the season.
Good work, sir.
What exactly did we talk about for the last four or five months when there was no hockey
and we didn't pay any attention to the preseason?
I don't remember.
Barbecue chicken?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Bologna?
A lot of bologna.
A lot of bologna.
A lot of bologna.
A lot of bologna.
Here's the schedule. Saturday in Pittsburgh, Monday, Washington, Buffalo next week.
You're going for Wings with Connie. I love it, Rhett.
They're here for a couple days.
Columbus, Detroit to wrap.
Interesting road trip.
It's kind of the Titans of yesterdecade with Crosby and Ovechkin's crew.
They aren't bad, but they aren't what they once were.
And then I'm curious what Buffalo looks like.
It'll be Johnny against the flames.
And Detroit's one of those teams.
I really don't know what to expect.
We thought they were on a very steep upward trajectory.
And then it was like, well, uh,
Are any of these young high graphics can have turned into stars?
We'll see what they are to wrap up the trip.
Get the boys out on the road rat.
I don't mind it.
Did you say Detroit?
Detroit.
Detroit.
I don't think they're as good as people who are expecting.
Is that right?
I don't know that people are expecting to be good though.
I think a year ago, I would have told you to be good by now.
Buffalo, everyone, better, better, Ottawa, better.
You know what it is?
It's Stevie.
It's Stevie.
Stevie knows what he's doing.
Look at what Stevie's doing.
Steve's doing a lot.
I don't know.
We talked about it before.
I have not seen criticism of Steve Eisenman until this offseason
at any sort of level.
And it was this off season where it's like,
is this a slam dunk that it's going to work just because Stevie's here?
Because there's some head scratchers in there.
And we'll get our first look at them through the flames lens.
There was criticism of Stevie when he was dealing with stuff in Tampa.
Wasn't there when he he was sitting on?
Who's that?
They had the hydropic.
He went to Montreal.
Oh, Drouin.
Drouin.
Yeah.
They had to hell of a deal.
They got Surgichu.
When.
Yeah.
In hindsight, he's won the moment.
Should I get involved in the Calgary Flames team building?
I've got some great ideas.
You've still got the Daisy Dukes?
That would work, actually.
The Daisy Dukes on.
The Whirlpool Jetboat Tour.
They're here for a couple days.
What are you going to do in Buffalo?
like sit and stare at the wall.
Go to the sundowner.
Well, they would have their passport.
So yeah, you can cross the war.
It's good to go on the Whirlpool Jetboat Tour.
Great time.
Everyone's excited.
Zip around down there.
See the falls.
Should I bring it up to Conroy?
You absolutely should.
Okay.
Yeah.
I'm going to do that.
Yep.
I mean, if he's responding to your text now, that would be a great thing to do.
I'm teasing.
Okay.
We'll move along.
Last night in the NHL, we had a tilt.
And I think we have a new, like,
I don't know if I like this team.
I love this guy, though.
Let's take a peek at who wanted a piece of Ryan Reeves last night.
It's our old buddy Wi-Fi.
Remember Wi-Fi?
Reeves, the big hit there.
I can get there eventually.
I'll get up here.
I'm on this.
You can see how it all unfolds.
Highlight.
Another hit, Reeves.
And okay.
Let's do it.
Barber.
Arbor jack-eye.
And that is maybe the toughest guy in a league and raise.
It's certainly one of a small number of names you can even put in that conversation.
Not necessarily a full back-and-forth fight red, but you love to see that from a young kid.
I don't know that anyone could spell his last name if they were given 100 tries.
It's X-H-E-K-A-J, hence the nickname Wi-Fi.
I would call him Twitter because Twitter is now X.
Yeah, I don't mind not.
Okay.
And is it just okay?
You know, he's a quiet guy, but, you know, he's tough as nails.
What's the personality like?
Let's have a peek at what he wore to the rink.
If you want to get a little taste of why I think this should be everyone's favorite hot.
Look at this guy.
That guy bleeps, okay?
Look at that in Montreal.
Oh, Wi-Fi.
Dean, I see you in that.
Yeah.
Holy.
Yeah, you sure can.
Like a fucking dodge ball or something.
Wedge me into that thing.
He looks like some Batman villain or something.
Yes, he does.
He's a Bond villain.
He's a Batman villain.
Yeah.
Good for him.
And look, the Canadians might not win a lot of games this year.
They hung around against Toronto like they always seem to do.
But that's a guy.
I think anyone can get behind.
Undrafted it.
Have you to know what it's the last couple of year?
Like, it feels like Toronto and Montreal play to start the year a lot.
and the games are phenomenal.
Yes, I mean, 11 goals, maybe not a structural clinic.
That was thrilling last night.
Two goals on an empty net behind them to tie.
Remember the one when George Peros, his first game is a hab, I think it was.
That was opening night.
And he got into a scrap.
You're right.
It seems like the Leafs and Habs.
They elevate on opening night.
It's just, it's magic.
It's hockey magic.
You could throw the records of the window, too, Dino.
Like when it's habs and leaves, I don't care if one's 30,
second ones first. Like they're always good games,
it seems. And that's great.
I love that they start the season with a few of those.
We saw the last couple of years
with Calgary, Edmonton, and the problem was
that meant after game one, there was only
two or three left the rest of the year. And you're like,
but I think it's
just you got a hundred plus year, like a century
plus rivalry. Love it. Let's go.
Okay. Other things from last night,
Canucks Oilers got vicious.
Eight goals.
Zero by McDavid.
Let's see that on your bingo card.
And yeah, after the oilers started taking cheap shots, quote unquote,
at some of the Canucks best players,
13 and a half minutes left.
Yep, the good power play unit still out there,
up by a half dozen for the Canucks.
And they play against Saturday.
That's another one I'm going to be tuned in for, boys.
You okay with that, Retro?
Yeah, if the Oilers are running around since when are the Oilers,
the tough guy team?
Dash 4 for Evander Kane.
Although, look, it's one game.
It's one.
Not trying to pin out anything.
Both goalies, the exact same, four on 16.
Not the Jack Campbell Redemption Tour start they were hoping for.
You hate to see it.
Just a shame.
If only they could get a break up there.
Maybe, yeah.
We'll see.
Saturday shouldn't be boring in Edmonton.
The scene switch, same two teams on hockey night in Canada.
Good stuff.
Let's go to Major League Baseball.
We heard Frank reference it.
The man that owns Philadelphia and one of the stars of Major League Baseball,
Bryce Harper, don't poke the bear.
This is no audio from the broadcast,
just the mics on the field.
Have a listen to Philly.
And watch the mean mug turn second here.
You think they like him?
The bell ringing?
Wow.
Chills.
That's sports right there, baby.
And that wasn't the best angle of the mean mug,
but it's out there.
Not hard to find him looking at the shortstop
as he's around second.
Did you really?
Did you chirping me?
Is that the move?
you wanted to make.
Was that ball over the fence?
I couldn't tell.
Like, I'm just going to keep running, but
it stayed in the park,
but it was in the second deck.
It looked from where I was standing.
I couldn't hear the dump.
So I just kept running.
Yeah.
You don't even need the signal.
Everyone in the state knew that.
It felt like I got all of it.
I'm just going to keep running.
We'll see.
Maybe there's going to be a play at the plate here.
I'll just keep going.
I'm trying to remember the name of the,
oh boy, this is on the spot.
There's a baseball inside hours
to a podcast.
and he said Toronto was the loudest building for playoffs
when you had that Batista team and the Edwin walkoff,
the Batista home run.
It was kind of that hockey crowd.
They're throwing beers on the field.
It was insanity.
He says, Philly is the venue right now.
There's nothing louder in Major League Baseball.
And you can understand why after watching that one.
Starters tonight, one game.
One series remains.
It is the one we just watched.
It is Atlanta, the best team in the regular season.
We've seen in ages, maybe a decade.
Spencer Strider, though, down in this series,
he's the best pitcher in the national league.
He's going to win the Sigh-Young.
He'll go against Suarez for the Phillies.
It is a Phillies lead in this series.
Excuse me.
Yeah, Phillies lead a chance to wrap it up at home here in game four.
That would be something.
Atlanta, heavy favorites, not just in the series,
but anything involving winning this year.
They've been the heavy favorite.
Would be quite something if they got ousted along with the 100-plus win,
Orioles, the Dodgers, been a crazy postseason.
That Harper, home run.
makes me want to grab two cases of origin and sit down and just.
I know.
Why the game start?
Crock, crack, crack.
Let's go.
Let's go.
I know.
It's the best part about it.
There's so many games.
Ah, baseball, baseball.
And sit out.
If it's going to give you some drama, there's nothing like it because it just,
it comes in waves.
I've said it's like that roller coaster and the pitch.
Okay, exhale.
All right.
Here we go again.
Your butt puckers up tight.
Okay. Awesome.
And in Philly, I saw some people, they were debating,
what's the best you hear of best sports town in America?
Yeah.
That maybe it's Philly here the last stretch with what the Eagles did.
They had that crazy parade a few years ago.
The Phillies have been doing their thing.
I don't know.
There's going to be some cities that will have something to say about that.
But Philly's got to be up there.
It's only the flyers that aren't holding up their end of the bargain,
at least they're not boring with torts and gritty, right?
So cheers to Philly.
I think we can all get behind.
I find Harper and the Phillies at this point.
Thursday night football, I'm less keen on this game, fellas,
if we have to order up something on the TV menu.
Kansas City favored by 10 and a half points.
That's a lot.
That's more than a field goal on a touchdown.
And yeah, you want to bet the money line minus 600?
I see what you're saying, Dean.
That's not a very exciting.
It's not a lot of, yeah, not a lot value.
A 60 to win 10, yeah, I'm good.
And the Broncos have just been bleeping awful.
We know they're not going to win this game.
It's just can they keep it close?
That said.
Stay tuned for a bet with bets, is I found something that I can attack on this one.
Travis Kelsey expected to play.
Limited but participated in practice.
He sprained his ankle, came back in that game and ended up rumbling a bunch and getting into the house.
So Kelsey back, a big deal for Kansas City.
If he's out, maybe there's a sliver of a chance for the Broncos.
Well, of course he's going to play.
T. Swift is in the house tonight.
Is she in the house?
She's making her way to Arrowhead.
How do they get her around?
They got to smuggle her.
You were staying in a popcorn bag or something like that?
Like, how are they getting around?
Well, they, there's the, the video.
It was like one of those, like a, like a wardrobe thing, like a hard case for wardrobe.
They're like, she's in there.
She's absolutely in there.
There's no way.
Wheeling this thing through us.
Is that what is in there?
Is there some trays of food?
Is there some entrees in there?
No, no.
It's Taylor Swift.
That's quite a light when you have to, that's how you have to get around.
Can you be imagine being worth billions of dollars and having to go to those lengths just to watch your
boyfriend play sports.
It'd be like you back in 2004 retro.
Yeah.
I just stayed home.
Now that's up that one time you didn't stay home and then you're like, we got to get back home.
This is too crazy.
Too much.
Too much.
Okay.
Finally, we had a little tech issue yesterday.
Nick Ledgerwood, we chatted with that will run on tomorrow's program.
What was that tech issue, Ryan?
Hey, Jack, am I good to leave the stream?
Yeah, we're good.
End the stream.
Oh, and the show just ended.
What did you do, Pender?
Oh, my God.
I'm sorry.
Ryan killed the stream.
I killed the stream.
It's on YouTube if you want.
The playoff game is Saturday 3 o'clock.
It is Calvary Forge, and we've got some tickets to give away.
I'll get on social media today.
Look for your chance to win your way to Atco Field for the semi-final playing game for the cabs.
And finally, Rhett, this isn't Ozzy Brad, but I think it's a man that we can all relate to.
I believe it's an Aussie accent.
And this is what happens on the weekend when you go to a barbecue.
We've seen it.
A tale is old as time.
Babe, let's go.
Tell you what, we're going to get to this barbecue,
have something to eat, two beers, and we are out of there.
Did you hear that, kids?
No complaining when we have to leave, right?
Nah, babe, we don't have to go.
Let's just stay a bit longer.
It'll be fine.
You know what?
We'll come back and pick the car up tomorrow.
We'll get an Uber, and we'll be sweet.
Don't worry about dinner.
Order some pizzas or some tie for everybody.
It'll be fun.
Yeah, I like that, but I like that.
The six-pack is gone.
Yes.
He was into the
whiskey.
Yeah.
The yellowy brown
bozes, which is
yeah.
Yeah, they're leaving the car
here's a great idea.
We could use and walk
tomorrow and more
and more fresh air.
Great.
And we've all done it.
That's your pin the report,
fellas.
And the look you get
from the shoveler.
Yeah.
I was,
you less keen on those.
Can I throw something out at you guys?
Yeah.
Please do.
Seeing as I know you guys so well,
and I know you
poke fun at the
CFL, but you're big fans, you just want
what's best.
I did notice where the Grey
Cup will be presented this year.
Are they back on the hammer?
November 19th.
I'm just wondering, maybe
huh?
You pick you up, go to the game.
Huh?
Great Cup.
If I bought a plane ticket to Hamilton
in November,
I'd be waiting at the airport a long time for you to
me out. Oh, hey,
is that today? You were flying into, oh, sorry, Boom.
Oh, we had practice. Sorry, Dean. Yeah, I didn't get the email.
Oh, it's, uh, Mike, well, I, geez, my, we're in Rochester.
We got a hockey tournament. Sorry, boom.
No.
Because I know you so well. Love to go. Yeah.
You would definitely want to rise to Hamilton.
And you guys.
It's going to be stamps riders, right? They're going to cross over. Is that possible?
Could we get stamps riders? So the, look at this. Look at it.
We can go back to back.
We'll get a limo.
Yeah.
We can watch the jets play the bills.
Oh.
At Highmark Stadium.
And then limo over to Hamilton.
Same day.
Watch the great cup.
Ryan.
On the street to the sundowner.
Do you know what this is?
This is a crock of shit.
It is.
That's what this is.
And we need to apologize to Village Honda for that steaming pile.
Yeah.
Unloaded in the end of the Pinder report.
What that is.
You're invited to.
Village Honda, your dealership for life.
New in-stock inventory arriving daily.
They're on the ground.
Start your automotive adventures at Village Honda where all that new vehicle pricing.
Yep.
It's all MSRP.
I think that's a good thing.
I've been doing some research.
It was sure what it meant.
It would be weird if it was a bad thing and they were promoting it.
Yeah, they wouldn't be doing that.
It's like, I can't believe how much more.
vehicles are here than anywhere else.
Our policy is to charge too much.
No, no, it's not bad.
What are we doing here?
No, MSRP, it's a good thing.
Village Honda, your dealership for life.
There's a Bert, we,
longtime fan of the show.
Really?
Can Rhett name one Rough Rider?
Ooh.
Kenton Keith.
No, no, he has to be active now.
Oh, all right.
Chris Zarka.
No, he's got slough.
This year, gets slap, of course.
Ryan gets loud.
Yeah.
No longer on the team and not Ryan, but well done.
And by that answer, we know the answer.
Yeah, there it is.
If you feel like you're having issues with your hearing,
if you're having some ringing, if one ear is it because,
now you kind of get,
Ryan when he'll, oh, I got ringing in my ear, this is no good.
You get very panicked very quickly.
Oh, wow.
If you're hearing, if something happens.
happens. Honestly, it was, I remember it was two years ago about and it was freaking me out and there was a lot of stress at that time in my life. And my dad's got a long history of hearing issues. And I went and got my hearing tested and it was tinnitus, which is like, are you dehydrated and stressed? And I'm like, you're goddamn ready. I mean, I don't sleep enough either. That's where I was in life at that point. And to find out that, yeah, this was not hearing loss. Was a massive weight off my shoulders given the family history. And,
I can't tell you that much that, not that it would have been a death sentence, but that, hey, at least I know what it is or isn't. And there was a lot of relief there, Dean. So yes, I did have my ears ringing two years ago and thought the world was ending, but things were all right.
I think it's one of those things where probably people, maybe it's on one side or the other. It happens once in a while. You're like, oh, that's kind of weird. Yeah, what is that? You should get that checked out. It is truly one of those things that can, you know, fester and get worse. Go to hearingloss.com.

When you're wearing air, like ear AirPods or whatever, I think you're just more,
hi, I got these in. These are so small.
What's it? What? Oh, oh, right. I have these in. Uh, hello? Yeah. Oh, hi. Yeah.
It's, it's a new world. It's a new world, but how do you ignore the call?
Ah. You just don't, uh, you just don't give it the old on the phone. Yeah.
Just mute that ringer.
Yeah, I can, it's more easy than ever to take phone calls.
Still don't do it.
I'm guessing you go for the Red Zone.
You're like, okay, honey, I'm just going to be downstairs.
I'm just turning these off.
Oh, yeah, baby.
Yeah.
It's one step removed from somebody holding the phone up to your ear.
No, sorry.
I just, it's not a good time.
It's really not a good time.
It's time for Ask Red.
What a great time.
There are no, there's not many people
who have lived a more
storied, varied life than Red Warner.
Grew up in the prairies,
went to South Beach,
down to, lived in Miami,
lived in Florida,
the mean streets of Buffalo,
ended his career in Calgary.
He's traveled the planet.
He's had relationships,

Sage, sage,

There you see it. Calgary tradition.

fresh Alberta pork. We were talking with guys
at Greta last night. They're like
went to Bon Tonne. That stuff
is so good. I said, we're not going to lie to you.
I had to try it, guys, and you were right. I couldn't believe it.
Yeah, now you've heard you know I love potato.
a salad or I could.
Yeah, they asked if we get, do you guys
get points like commission on the potato

to stop talking about it. We won't though. No.

All right, Retro. Let me call it up here. I've got
some questions. Now, if you want to get in.

They'll just load up for Dean. You can send it
on a Monday. You could send one today for next week.
Yeah, that's right.

Ah, da-da-da-da. Hey,
Rhett. Hi, Rhett. Hi.
The hubs and I are following the flames on their
upcoming road trip. P-G-H-W-A-S-B-F-C-L-B-D-E-T
and I'm wondering if Redd has any must-dos in any of
these cities before or after the game. Cheers from
Courtney. Courtney, Pist.
Washington, Buffalo, Columbus, Detroit.
Pittsburgh's not really.
You go to Primanti's for the fries on a sandwich.
But that would be the thing, right?
That's kind of a, Pramante brothers.
Yeah.
And then they go, where is the next?
Washington?
Washington, I don't know food-wise.
It's not, it's, they've got tons of good restaurants, but not.
Well, you were there for that big thing when you stormed the, uh, the capital.
That's right.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
In January.
Hence my lawyer worked last year.
What did you guys do after that?
Actually, if you have not been to Washington,
you have to go look at all the different monuments and walk around and do that.
It's,
it's amazing.
It's all kind of like the Lincoln Memorial.
It's all kind of.
Yeah.
I've never been.
It's supposed to be a really, really cool city.
It actually, it is wicked.
It's really cool.
Buffalo, I just said.
Maybe the whirlpool jetboat tour.
Made of the Mist.
Not being to Niagara Falls.
Again, it's like living near the beach.
When you've seen it or near it, you're like,
it's like not a big deal.
But if you've never seen it, it's quite impressive.
Maybe a beef on whack here in Buffalo.
Ooh.
Right?
Stinger.
Stinger,
sub too.
Everyone has wings.
Everyone has wings.
A Stinger sub.
Beef on whack.
There's a fried bologna at the rink.
don't recommend it, it's too thick.
Too thick.
Too thick.
You get a thin cut.
And Detroit?
Columbus?
Oh yeah, Columbus is kind of.
You got to see if OSU's playing because there's nothing bigger than Ohio State football.
And even if they're on the road.
And they are on the weekend, aren't they?
I think they're, yeah.
It's the day after Buffalo.
So that's Friday.
Oh, H. I.O.
All right.
So unless the football, the college football team's playing, then it's in Columbus is a great town.
It's just, it's not one of the, it's not like going to Washington where it's, oh, you got to do this.
It's not like going to Florida.
Oh, well, go down to the beach.
It's not like going to Dallas.
Well, go see the JFK thing, right?
Like, it's not a lot that stands out to me in, in Columbus.
And Detroit used to be such a dump.
Go gamble because the rinks right at the casino there.
Go to Windsor.
Go south to Canada.
How left is that?
Pay for your trip.
This is from Logan.
Hey, Rhett.
Did you ever party out at Lac Peltier back in the day?
Any good stories?
No, I never went to Lake Peltier.
No, that was all my cousins did, but I was never of an age.
By the time I was old enough to go boozing, I was in northern Saskatchewan.
so.
Now your lawyer said you can.
And I was focused on my,
my career goals.
Right.
Right.
That's the one.
Disappered.
Hey,
there's no chance a kid can live the way I lived
and ever have an opportunity to do something
with himself in this game.
It would be quite miraculous.
It would have to be like the most throwback,
old school, immensely talented boozehound of all time.
are so professional at
from the age of 12 and up, I feel like
it's not even a
now here's a, sorry, it's
Askrette, go. No, go ahead.
You're on a good train. Who's the kid
because I find this interesting
being around so many youth
and their goals and dreams
and athletes and this. There's
a kid in Toronto
who made the roster, I think
he was a second rounder from a couple years ago
and there was a Martin? Yes.
Yeah. Kind of the buzz
at Toronto. Made the team, had no business making
the team if you'd projected it a month out.
And further back in his life, from what they say,
was he did everything, not that I did,
like stupid stuff, but he wasn't on the ice 24-7.
He'd played other sports. He had other
interests, whereas today it's
you're going to do this, you've got to do it, and you've got to be dialed in on it
from morning, noon, and night.
Anyway, it was, I thought it was refreshing to
hear somebody have success
and not have to follow the exact.
exact same path as everybody else.
31 goals last year with Camloops in the Western League in 57 games and goes right from
the dub on that really good team that hosted the Memorial Cup to the Leafs third line
center position, which ain't nothing.
That position and no seasoning at H.L. Marley's, like, that's impressive, especially for
a team that we consider a divisional favorite and a cup contender.
Kudos to the kid.
I mean, that said, it's true living's team.
I mean, he doesn't know what the hell he's doing.
There's probably a lot of teams.
This kid wouldn't get a sniff.
Something was coming there.
I was worried.
Hey, dear Rhett and Flames Nation.
So this is all.
Did Kipper ever have a dart in between periods?
Cheers from Dylan.
I don't think he did.
He would have if he was allowed and they didn't have those, like in the wash and the airplanes.
Right?
Yeah.
I think between the third period on a Friday and maybe the first period,
on a Saturday.
You definitely have a few nights.
It's just,
he would have,
he wouldn't have smoked.
He would have had a dip.
Yeah,
fair.
He had,
he liked the dip and it was,
it was weird.
He'd roll it into a ball and then,
that's the European way.
Stick it in his front.
It's called the,
Bacala,
Macala,
it's almost like clay that you pack together.
It is crazy.
It's gross,
hey?
Yeah,
and just rot your teeth.
They always say,
oh,
the chew for in,
from Europe is,
better for you different and the only thing more gross is when they leave the spitter
spitter bottles oh the spitter cups no you want to be disgusting Craig veil no leaving
oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh stop him cut his mic don't let him finish cut his mic don't
gross having flashbacks to a party at university we can't do this again oh
Oh, made me tough.
Not good.
It's not good.
No, it is not good.
Hey, Rhett.
Did they do the fittest flame thing back when you would play?
And did you guys always know who is the most unfit flame and would he get roasted for it?
Yeah, we know about Jellina and again, love it.
Like, did we have a shaming for the 23rd best in shape?
Everybody knew the rankings.
Okay.
But you could.
Yeah, not leading the witness here.
It's just, it was a question.
Yeah.
Do the rankings.
Yes, we did have the fittest flame.
It wasn't as heralded.
There were guys that had to ride a bike before practice and after practice and more often than others.
But the players never made fun of those guys.
Didn't judge.
We weren't there to judge each other.
on our fitness levels.
Wins and losses,
right?
None of this,
you're not,
you're not crossfit.
You're hockey.
Plus,
they didn't put enough
stock into certain events.
Like,
not everybody's good at the bike wreck.
Some of us excel in other things.
Some of us.
Weren't you with that,
that incredible monkey arm reach?
Like,
to the touch your toes one?
That's where you dominated,
the forward reach.
I dominated the sit and reach.
Dominates.
And quite often,
quite often would fake a foot slippage on the bike.
Oh,
damn.
Damn.
Oh, right in the shin.
Spun that, yeah.
I have been hearing about the sit and reach for close to 15 years.
I mean, we've been work married for a long time and without fail.
The sit and reach comes into the conversation every two to three months.
Listen, everyone's got great strengths.
I mean, you don't hear about stuff that people are average at.
You don't talk about high kicking because I'm okay at it.
You can do these.
Everyone's got a freaky thing they can do.
These bike tests, but what about the flexibility?
You know, because longevity, one of the things that, big things for life and longevity of life,
is your ability to be nimble and flexible and grip strength.
It was very good at the grip strength.
Hey, Ryan.
There's a joke there somewhere.
You know what this is?
A crock of shit.
Another steaming pile.
You guys.
I do believe.
his grip strength.
Yeah, better with one hand than the other.
Isn't that what you said, Red?
No, I had to hold on with both hands because.
Oh, okay.
Christ almighty.
I heard that he can play both sides.
You could just let him anyways.
He loves his off wing.
All right.
Hey, Rhett, did you ever play in a game where ACDC wasn't played before
puck drop?
I wouldn't have wanted to.
I love ACD.
They just played last night after seven-year break.
They were back on tour.
Really?
Yes.
I got to see this tour.
We got to get you on.
It was about to rock.
How many members of the original, or at least the second, the 2.0 version are still left.
Where are we out here?
I don't know.
I feel like Dean's the music.
Angus is still alive.
The original lead singer, but he died a long time.
Yeah, that was a year.
They brought in the new guy.
And he kind of got famous with them.
Yeah.
Yeah, his voice went and it's like, okay, so well, they're done.
So they won't be doing it.
But then he started singing again.
So it went and then it came back.
Malcolm, Malcolm Young, Angus's brother, he passed away.
But Angus is still, I saw a video this morning, actually.
Like, who's this old woman they're trotting around?
Oh, Christ, it's Angus Young.
He's got like long white hair.
He's all, he was never a big imposing figure anywhere.
It was, uh, hello, it's good to see everybody.
For those about to rock, we salute you.
It was interesting.
that's the guy
shit where was it
oh ret
I am going to be buying
either a new
blackstone griddle
or a pellet
smoker
which do I choose
putting you in a corner rat
one of the other
son of that is a BS question
is what are they the Trager right
it'd be the Trager pellet
pellet well it doesn't have to be a trigger
there's many different brands of it
I think you're going to get more
more dexterity
and multi-use options from the pellet.
Really?
The Blackstone, amazing thing.
Great to have.
Hundreds of pancakes at a time.
Smash burgers, fried onions, bacon.
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful thing.
But I think that as far as grilling and barbecue and goes,
I would go with the pellet.
But I guess that's the question I have to ask that person.
Okay.
What are you looking for?
You want to scramble eggs?
I'm going to suggest that probably, if this person is contemplating,
getting one of these already has a pretty good grill,
so their grill game is probably taken care of.
Is the smoker in a way almost?
I'm not.
I like smoke.
I like smoke to meet.
I don't love it.
I don't.
Weimer has it.
The big human has it.
And he swears by it.
And there's lots of people that do.
And you can have levels of smoking and stuff like,
that but it's if you over smoke something it knocks the piss out of me for days i feel like it's
harder to do than you'd think like i've never done it but i remember my my next door neighbor was
allamped up and he's like i'm doing this all weekend and i'm doing that waking up at this time
and it's going to smoke for this long and then i was like how to go man you were so excited about
that he's like it didn't really go well at all i got well something's hard to screw up i feel like
it's easy to screw up a smoke job am i crazy now i think the new pellet grills are pretty good they're
You set them and they maintain it.
So they kind of cheat, but.
But flavor wise, though.
That's just it.
Like, I don't have to smoke everything.
You ever watch?
I mean, we know you smoke a lot.
Some would say too much.
The gummies now.
Have you ever watched that?
I think it's the Pitmasters,
the thing, kind of like the competition thing on Netflix.
It's great.
I get, I'm probably not a lot of people
are going to get into it.
But I enjoy it.
You got like some white,
guy who's a chef from the city. You've got some classic old, you know,
a black lady who's been doing it in her backyard and in a backyard pit. Then you've got
the big heavy guy that's, I don't need your smoker. I just take an old 45-gallon drum
and cut it open and that's my smoker. These all are fancy frou-frou. And then they bring in
the, you know, the experts to taste it. Oh, this is how it's pretty good. There's tears flowing.
It's a very emotional and personal thing. These people,
people's barbecue and their homemade sauces and stuff.
Labor of love.
Yeah.
That's your humanity got it start, Phil.
Around the, around the fire.
Around the fire.
Yeah.
Eating, cooking.
Smoke them if you go.
And this one, G. Keller from Bontan meets,
when is red and,
when are you guys all in studio is what Greg wanted to know?
It was going to be today yesterday, but we're not.
Yeah.
Somehow.
That's how organized we are G from E.T.M.
That's a great answer, Ryan, because it's hour to hour.
Yes.
It's hard to.
You know what?
Oddly, though, I think it's fair to say that you not being here today is actually us trying to be organized and forward thinking.
It's true.
It's just that we should have arrived there two weeks ago.
But hey, it is what it is.
We all have our flaws.
We are not the most organized crew on earth.
You know what it was?
Oh, Pinder?
You can't tell old people what to do.
And my parents showed up.
And it's like, man.
You got a different program with the grandparents.
I get the F out of Dodge when we got in-laws here, grandparents.
Let's go somewhere.
Was it sad to say goodbye?
Do old DUG?
No, Doug was ready to go.
How much hockey did he watch when he was out?
There would have been, yeah.
He's got his arena quota for the championship.
He watched Billy Bob take home another championship.
It's what he does.
He's a winner.
He runs in the family.
Yeah.

Treat yourself. Go to
Bontan. Oh, baby.
So given the little pivot that we made,
I don't want to blow the...
Did we pivot? Well, that Rett isn't in studio
today.
I see him.
Can we start booking out around a different date that he will be here?
Or is that a little too presumptuous over our skis there?
It was a this or that that represented us.
Well, if I'm here for this, then I can't be there for that.
And I'm not here for this, then I will be there for that.
I love Halloween.
He loves Halloween.
Good dress-up party.
You sure do.
Well, let's take a look at the old calendar here.
So the game is on a Sunday?
29th. And every hotel in Shelbyville's been booked for ages. So I don't want to stay there anyway.
It's in and out day trip. I'll meet you there. I'll fly in on that morning. Right into Toronto.
Or Edmond.
Okay. Good. That's the important part of the flight. You got to get to the right city.
I can go. I have been. I got to get the right date because we've seen him mess that up. And you got to get the right person's name on the ticket. We've seen that.
It'd be nice to see you for a little. Like, is there any chance you could come in on a Thursday?
No, no, I'll come to Edmonton.
Yeah, I know what I understand, stupid.
I know what you're saying.
And then you're going to stay for me?
Why don't you come to Calgary?
Be around for a few days.
See the boys?
Do something?
Isn't that what I just said?
No, you're flying to Edmonton day of and then flying home.
I'm saying come to Calgary.
No, I said I'm fly to Edmonton then stay.
Didn't let him finish team.
I like it.
That's what you want, Dino.
I want him in Calgary is what I'm saying.
Yes.
And he's saying he'll say flying to Edmonton.
I'm going to stay in.
for a week?
Well, the reason, are you not going home for Halloween?
You just said you love Halloween.
I'm assuming.
Oh, I don't want to be around my kids for Halloween.
You love Halloween.
I love Halloween.
I love Halloween.
I don't know.
Yeah, that's okay, fair enough.
Okay, all right, all right.
I just assumed that, okay, fair enough, fair enough.
That's a good point by you.
Speaking of that, Alberta Blue Cross, they have been,
they've been kind of associated with,
with the,
the upcoming event,
which,
now retro,
have you been
to one of the,
either the winter classic,
the Heritage Classic,
have you,
where were you for the Calgary one?
No,
I was,
I was freshly retired.
I hated hockey.
I wanted to be nowhere near.
I think I was in,
a warmer locale.
I think I was in Scottsdale.
Actually,
I know that was in Scottsdale.
Yeah.
Because a big human called me
and the bunch of the alumni
got arguing with each other.
because they were all drunk.
It was all right. They needed you to break it up or?
Well, they wanted to spill their being,
these guys do us, oh, yeah, yeah.
Gossip.
Yeah.
Alumni gossip.
Mm-hmm. It's real.
Alberta Blue Cross, memorable moments.
There's only one thing better than sharing memories and that is making new ones.
Alberta Blue Cross travel insurance protects your memories and more,

There will be memories made. No question. Alberta Blue Cross, have them with you
because there will be some memories made as the Oilers and Flames hook up later this month
up at Commonwealth. They're going to start, I saw, obviously right away,
they're going to start putting the rank together up there. It takes a while.
You don't just do that day off.
They got to wait for that team that doesn't win home games to finish their season,
but that's got to be close. So yeah, I think the moment that that's official.
An email the 19th or something.
There's the, I mean, I don't know.
That gives them 10 days.
Because the football field's got that crown to it.
So they have to kind of level that out.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Make sure the water comes off of it.
Did you have anything, Ryan, about anything?
So last night, Thatcher Demko did the honk in the helmet.
And that got me thinking about a road trip and honking in an arena.
And if I told you, I peaked at Staples Center,
you guys would be jumping to conclusions
with no basis
or any reason to do so.
Nope.
But I was...
I had the list of rinks I've been to.
One was L.A. I remember not feeling so hot,
but I was probably 22 or 23
and my sister and my dad
and I were going to go see a Kings game.
And not feeling good turned to
where are the washrooms here? I'm going to
project that'll vomit in about 8 to 10 seconds
and just made it to the stall in time
bowling through a line of people.
And I thought, okay,
well, I'm better now. You feel good, right? The whole
freeway back to San Diego head out the window.
Ooh, that's bad. The 805 or the
I file, whatever, the highway number.
It was a technical, it looked like Rainbow Road from Mario Kart
for a few days, I think.
Health insurance is a good thing. Travel insurance
good thing. I was going to say, I like that this is the memorable
moment that you've chosen to share with it.
I just think about, you know, travel insurance. It's like things can go wrong.
That was not alcohol poisoned.
So take care of yourself.
Alberta Blue Cross celebrating life's memorable moments inspired by hockey.
Wayne Simmons played for the Kings.
I'm like, this guy's going to be a star.
Oh my God.
And I think it was like right before it was a Jeff Carter they swapped before.
It was like, oh, man, he was good.
Young Wayne Simmons is like, this guy can do everything.
He's going to score 25 goals.
He's tough as nails.
He's running people over.
God, he was good.
Yeah.
He was a good flyer.
Hell yeah.
And does that guy not play like a flyer?
Yeah.
He has family here in Calgary.
So there's always kind of a thing.
Maybe, you know, maybe he'll come to Calgary.
You did that hometown discount thing with Toronto instead.
Yeah.
Not in Calgary.
Didn't really want to come to Calgary.
It was on his no trade list.
Oh, one of those.
Yeah, but I'll get the new rank.
That'll change.
And sometimes you have such a long list, right?
I don't, I don't mind Calgary.
But because I have to give so many teams, I guess I'll just put them on there.
I'm sure that's what it was.
Might have been just a clerical area.
It's working north to south.
sure that's what it was.
Outdoor dental, the Soleil Laser.
We need, I can't wait to see the
the footage of you with your mouth open
and nothing coming out of it for once.
There's about 15 minutes of that that one day.
That was a new record.
That's unbelievable.
Like were you still trying even though it was like,
I was awake.
I was awake.
And it was 15 minutes of not talking.
Shut up.
Pinder.
Glorious.
Snoring treatments.
It's the Soleil Laser.
Dr. J. Patel and

Go see Dr. Jay.
He's a wonderful guy.
And in the questions.
You know what?
And for the ladies,
some ladies out there listening,
if you've got the jerk beside you at night,
this is a great gift.
Unlike them buying, you know,
it's not like buying your wife
a pair of workout shoes
and trying to hint at that.
It's,
This is a gift that will be appreciated by all.
Oh, it's true.
Yeah, you do not buy running shoes as a gift.
No, don't.
Hey, here's a fitness membership.
Here's some workout clothes.
I don't know what size you are.
Are these good?
Here's keys to your new house.
Get them.
Yeah.
Yeah.
See, this is much better.
This is much better.
Harmony in the home.
It's all from Dr. J. Patel and Outdoor Dental.
Outdoor. Dental is the website.
Just clarifying in the comments.
The dental office is indoors, not outdoor.
He's a very outdoorsy guy.
Again, it's about health.
Healthy living is kind of the, come on, Suck.
Don't be stupid.
Yeah, it's raining today.
Sorry, guys.
It's minus 20.
Yeah, sorry, guys.
Yeah, we're all fully booked out for July.
He got lots of time in January.
Yeah.
We're going to give you these glasses to keep the hail from hitting you in the
in the eyeballs as we do this.
Slide this park on, please.
Let's do our Betway Betts.
You want some, Betway bets.
Betway bets, get the Betway app on your phone.
Betway.
Bet the responsible way with our buddies at Betway.
Let's go.
Let's go.
We got a couple here.
Tomorrow our week, what, six point spread picks.
We'll get in tomorrow.
Oh, yeah.
I need a serious bounce back.
Oh, and three.
We should do a big date tomorrow because also we got some predictions.
we need to do. Oh, and you're not.
We're going to get Dino for a little window.
I'll be in, can we pull predictions in the window?
We got a big ringette tournament
going on. We're on the. Right.
I don't even know what it is. So,
so we're already at three day weekends, as long as
it's sports for kids, right? Like Fridays are now
not work days. I don't know. Be on the ice at 9 a.m.
That's a normal thing. Well, if you have kids in sports, yeah,
you can't be working Fridays. No.
Oh, God.
Yeah. Game like travel.
Job.
Game starts at 815.m.
And it's not a holiday.
No, it's not.
It's a Friday.
Well, that's better than the 2 p.m. on a Thursday in Pittsburgh I had three weeks.
Yeah.
Look at Thursday.
Yeah.
Well.
Now, in fairness, maybe your son will play professional hockey and make a living at it.
I'm not sure my daughter is going to make the National Ringette Ladies League or whatever
the heck.
The odds is probably the same.
What's the league men?
there. Yeah. Poor kid.
Betway bets. Let's do our betway bets.
Wherever, whoever. I
baseball, hockey, football. I went looking for football.
It was tough to find any kind of value.
You went to hockey.
Florida at Minnesota, I think the wild are a good hockey team, fellas.
Matt Moldy is a stud. I think they're good.
Caprisoff, two points plus one, two five.
Early season, before things kind of,
settle in, I think that's where you find your value. So if you see something you like,
these early games is when you jump on it. It's been good early. It's a good point. Home opener.
The North Stars have been real good at home. Two points or more for Capriza plus
125. And you went for the first goal with Coronado, almost came in. Maddie Baneers, year number
two, Seattle's in Nashville. I don't think Nashville's very good. This is nothing more than just a
a dart throw? Why not?
Plus 1,400. Take a chance with
Maddie Baneers. I think he's going to have a nice little
season. That's my two
Betway bats. Don't mind those, Dino. I
found a way to mix in that football game, but first
let's start with hockey. Vegas looked really good.
No Stanley Cup hangover. How about this?
Santos ain't probably the worst team in the NHL.
I'm taking Vegas minus
two and a half. Win by
three, I say.
And that's a plus 170. That's how I
crank up a number on a Vegas win.
Hey, they beat Seattle by three the other night. Why not
in San Jose against, well, Mike Greer's rebuilding club.
NFL, here's how I did it, Dean.
Travis Kelsey, injury status up in the air,
first touchdown of the game, plus 425.
Would it not be the least surprising thing ever
if Patrick Mahomes methodically moved the ball down the field
and somehow, even though he's double covered,
Kelsey catches one in the end zone,
seven nothing chiefs, plus 425.
There you go.
Those are the Betway bets.
All you do is get it on your phone,
and then just start to scroll.
See what you like.
Super easy.
Bet the responsible way, though.
Bet the responsible way with Betway.
I wondered if Kelsey was going to play
because that injury that he had last week,
it was kind of a non-contact kind of turning and went down.
Came back and played, obviously.
And now with, as we said, T. Swift in there.
I was, I don't need to get too far into it,
but Kansas City's kind of,
this is one of those games you feel like
the Chiefs are going to run away with this thing,
but they're one of the teams that when they have a lead,
they don't just run the ball.
Mahomes still throws the ball regardless.
He's got so much confidence and belief in his ability.
Whatever, I'm not going to throw a pick.
They throw the ball.
So looking for maybe unders on Pacheco or whatever,
but there's no value.
No.
If anything, late in the game,
they probably go to Jerich McKinnon or Edwards-Alaer,
but even there is.
Well, they also haven't covered against some bad teams.
Like, you know, Jacksonville really held them to show.
I don't think Jacksonville is necessarily good.
that. I mean, they're probably okay, but it's, I don't know that the chiefs have been that good
against the spread. It's a tough, tough game to really get into it. And it's not like, oh, I'll just go
target their top receiver to hit over on yards because, well, if they get up, like, sure they'll
throw, but like, this defense that Kansas City has now is actually good guys. They don't need to get to
24 points to win. I'll say this, I'm fighting it very easy or very enjoyable, watching the Broncos
get stomped. Yeah.
between their coach who I kind of, when he was in New Orleans,
it's like I kind of like Sean Payton.
He'll turn in Denver.
And then it's been a big heel turn.
Russell Wilson is apparently,
he's clearly the most annoying person in the world.
Drives people crazy.
I was happy to hand him the award last year for my 10-year run.
And they gave up, what, three firsts and second.
Oh, it's horrible.
Hundreds of millions of dollars.
And threw in Gino Smith, who has been worlds better for Seattle.
Yeah.
to be the absolute worst.
Awful.
And the big contract.
Gross.
Yeah.
Good heavens.
If you do not have plans for the weekend, can't say it enough.
We were there a couple weekends ago.
Century Downs Casino.
Alberta, horse racing.
It is the thoroughbreds at the racetrack at Century Downs.
Saturday, Sunday, 1245 is post time.
What does it sound like the horn there?
Yeah, that's right.
Every Saturday and Sunday for the next, well, whatever, the day.
is till the end of the month.
September, October,
thoroughbred season at the downs.
We had a good time there, Dana.
Admission is free.
All ages are welcome.
The kids were having a blast
watching the horses,
Gavre.
And the parents were having some fun,
putting a few shackles down,
and then yelling at their horse
and being probably a little disappointed.
We had some winners, though.
There were some big,
there were some nice, you know,
tri-actors and trifectas coming in there.
It's a doctor box.
Yeah, good times.
You won't find it anywhere else.
Watch, wager, eat, drink, and maybe win.
Century Downs, Racetrack, and Casino.
You know where it is.
It's up by Cross Iron Mills.
Yeah, baby.
Right there.
It's all right there.
Watch your mouth.
Are you watching this football game tonight?
It's going to get a quick scan.
If it's not close, I'm not.
I think that's probably how most people are approached this.
There's too much else going on.
You got playoff baseball.
You got a lot of hockey.
Playoff baseball.
I got a coach.
Sabers' home opener is tonight.
Lots to talk about that.
That's true.
Named the street after RJ.
And they got the Rangers, don't they?
So I'm going to be.
Underdogs at home against
a Rangers club that's getting a lot of preseason hype
for not just the star power, but a more well-rounded roster.
She's Sturke and Revenge to her after a May year last year.
That's a good game.
I saw that's, uh,
Dahlene put a tweet out.
something about, because he's signed the contract.
I'm Rick M.F.
Something like that, yeah.
But it was a, hey, you know what?
You're either with us or you're against us.
Let's go Sabres Nation.
Let's get it going.
All right.

He just signed?
No, he seems like he's very quiet.
He's church mouse.
Weird with that name.
Yeah.
