And then so to, to frame this, we watched a miserable start to the year. I think it was the first year, Ryan Huska, and that team was awful and uninspired, and they called up Conner Zeri and Marty Pospasol, and it was Caudry and the kids, and that changed the course of that season. Not that they went onto the playoffs and accomplished great things,

but all of a sudden they were watchable. They had a little, yes, young guys, okay, energy, boom. And then you started to dream on the skill set that Conner's area had. We're like, oh, geez, he just walked a D man, or my goodness, Like that's a very high IQ, high-scale play. And it felt like, all right, let's cement this player into the top six for the next decade. It stalled out pretty hard and injuries are a massive piece of that. Twice two seasons ago, he has knee injuries.

The one big one was the hit from Drew Hellison against the Ducks. We were doing a live show at Richmond's Pub. And it was like, oh, boy, that doesn't look good. Cuts to the middle, knee on knee, kind of his fault more than the D-Man, trying to cut across him. Comes back. They're in the playoff chase. tries to go, gets hurt again. Hasn't looked like the same guy since.

Can he get back there or not? Nobody knows. We all want it to happen. So what's the best path forward for him to get that? I think number one, it comes down to him needing an opportunity. I really don't think he got that opportunity last year. And quite honestly, he didn't really deserve it. He struggled last year.

The big thing for me was the skating. I thought his skating was completely off. I thought he was one of the worst skaters on the team. And, you know, you could shock that up to the knee injury. but I always find with athletes, they suffer like a big time injury. The next season, it usually takes them time,

both mentally and physically, to get back to where they once were. And then the following year after that, there is a bit of a return to what they were at one point. Yeah, that's one outcome for sure. That's what I'm kind of banking on when it comes to Connor Zeri this season.

But, you know, I posted a couple highlight videos the other day of Zeri, and there's nobody else on the flames that can do what he does with the puck in terms of creating offense, the dangling, the rushing the puck. you know, for the first year and a half of his career, you know, he was great at that. Yeah, he was a highlight real.

For sure. Human highlight. And the challenge is that last year he wasn't, and that's all post injury. And so what we're hoping is that he can return physically to the place that he was. What you're hoping not for is Yuso Vallamaki, where you went from a guy that looked like a future leader of the club for the next decade and a half and is a fringe, you know, NHL. He played in the American League and helped Chicago to what a HL finals or whatever. And because he was never the same after the injury. And we don't know.

But if you're Ryan Huska, are you placing him above guys that are performing better than him? That's where I have the tricky spot. Because if it's him and Sam Hansig and Hansick playing better, we're like, no, no, no, we need to give Zeri this opportunity. He's like, if one guy's outperform the other, that's kind of how Ryan Hustra works. He doesn't really play favorites.

It's like, who can I trust and who's playing well? It's true. But like, I think there's a way to get Zeri into the top nine. And I think it's at center. And I think if you move Ryan Strom down the fourth line, he plays that Derek Ryan, Matt Stagin kind of role with the team this year. And you put Zeri as a third line center. You can get him into the top nine.

You can get him those minutes. He's playing with skilled players. And you can just give him the opportunity. I think that's all Flames fans are really asking for when it comes to Zerries. Like give him the chance. And if he shows up and he plays well, then great. Then you have a potential top nine four years. Have you liked him as a center?

I mean, it's been a very small sample size. I didn't mind him. I know you thought he was bad. But that's my question is what's the sample size? Because I'm, I'm okay. No, no, no, I know. But moving forward, if you're saying give them center, and I am too, I said, make four lines and let them all go. Yes. Who the hell are we kidding?

Yeah, they don't really have a top line and their fourth line doesn't look much different in the second. So two things was very for me. He had a shitty attitude last year and I don't know if that's frustration with how you were performing or frustration with the coach. But there was a point, I think it took a pretty good shot at him saying, could act in like a cry baby. He was. Cust did that. You're saying? I did. Oh, you did. Yeah. He did something on the ice that showed up. some of his team

bit of a bit of a potty that was bullshit and he's he's had the odd interview that has sounded pouty exit exit interview can you enlighten us on that bobby wait let me finish so that those two that thing and what's a reasonable amount of time to get comfortable at center

at the NHL level and to start to show yeah you know what I mean because it's not a game it's not two it's probably not five is it 10 10 seems reasonable, but is that enough? You know what I mean? Like, there has to be a plan, okay, well,

I'm not going to pull you out of here after three games where it's not working, but I can't go 25. Yeah, right? Like, there has to be a... I was thinking you could maybe do 20 to 30 games and you just, you commit to it. Just because this year, this is not a year where they're going to be

ultra competitive and pushing for the playoffs. This is the year to find out what some of these guys are. And I think this is a big year for Conor Zeri. I agree, but I think Ryan Husk's entire foundation is a meritocracy. And so if Tyson Gross comes out and wins draws and doesn't get scored on, he's a better center option than a guy that's going to lose more than half his draws, doesn't have the size to hang with most NHL centers,

and probably, you know, has a really good chance of getting outscored when he's on the ice. But like, what conversation are we having? Are we having what is Ryan Huska going to do? Or is it what do we want to see happening? Because I agree with you. If it's right, if it's from Ryan Huska's perspective, Zeri's not going to play center. But Ryan Hustra needs to get read the right act and say, Hey, I don't love what you do, but.

And I think that happened. We're trying to build here. Yeah. And I don't, I'd like to the Tricerian Center at some point. But right now, it's a much harder position to play than Wing. And we just saw him have an underwhelming year at Wing. Why are we giving him the harder task? Is it the only way to get him in the top nine?

I think so. Because you, because you're not putting Sharon Govich. Because you're not looking to fill another fourth line fucking. No, but who cares. Let's see. They can be good or get them out of here. Yeah. What's your downside for finding out you're shitty at center.

Bye. Yeah. And if he doesn't perform, he doesn't perform. Well, he might be a good winger and not a good center. And that's the more likely outcome for most forwards. But try it at center. He's not such a good way. If he's not good enough to.

He was good enough at wing before the injuries. And that's what I want to see. And if he's really good there, you're like, shit, maybe we can even try them at center. I don't think you give him the calculus test before the math 12 test. You know what I mean? I would start him on the wing in the top nine. And if that means rotating guys, And look, we'll see if Huberto's ready or not.

They're saying all the things you say in the office. I don't give a shit if Hubertos. But if Hubert's not there, there's a easy. I would sit Huberto in the stands 100 times fair before I would sit a kid. I'm just saying it's not that hard to get him in the top nine in the wing. Like if he played on a line with Strom and Sharon Govich, is that enough for you to say he had a chance to establish value in the room? You're like, oh, you didn't give me anyone to play with. We're kind of back to the Sam Bennett thing where it's like, well, you never played him in the top nine at center.

It's like, yeah, because he was never better than Backlin, Lindholm or Monaghan. Like, you couldn't. And then you play him on the top line. You take dumb ozone penalties in the first period and fall behind. Like he played his way to the fourth line continually. And did that mean he was never going to be a good player? No. But when he was here,

he never took anyone's job. And I feel like that's Connor's area has to take someone's job. What a fucking easy thing for you to say now. Are you saying that the flames did right by Bennett? Well, you and I were in the room and said, this guy needs to change his scenery and you'd be happy to lose a deal if it helps to find this game.

So were we right or wrong? I think we were both. we're right about Benet needing the change of series. So are you happy to allow something like that to happen again? Or do you think that you should learn from your past? What would you do differently with Bob? I would have played them. Well, every time they tried, it didn't work.

So what? Well, give them a longer stretch. It was at least like four or five games and then he's off, he's off playing center, you know? More importantly, you have to be realistic about where you are as a franchise and they fake their way for too long. Yeah, that's fair. They fake their way for too long and they bought into their own bullshit.

We're good enough. We're going to be. You're nothing. You don't have. You don't make the playoffs back to back years. I've never been through the second round. Let's be realist. And the thing with Bennett, too, is there were times when Monaghan and Linholm were playing on the same line.

And Mark Jankowski was the third line center. And they're giving Jankeowski reps there instead of your fourth overall pick and Sam Bennett. So. Yeah. I would have rather seen back then, let's give Sam 20, 30 games. Let's give him a long, give him a whole season. Totally. I didn't say it at the time.

I'm saying I was wrong. In hindsight, yeah. The other thing that I believe that I don't think. a lot of people are on the same page and I'll just eat that but I don't think Sam Bennett if he stayed here turns into the player he isn't. No, for sure. I think when you're drafted the highest in the

history of a franchise, the only franchise there was pressure on him here that he did not feel in Florida all. And he got put in a spot that had there was a much better fit. Well, but look at the talent in Florida. You were saying the flames in the city of Calgary's pressure.

No, I think he, not the city. It was too hot for old Sam. I think the changed the scenery, allowed him to embrace being a plumber and not having to be a star center because he's never going to be a star center. But he went, he went to Florida and automatically became their second line center behind Alex Barkoff. And he's playing with Jonathan Hubert. He played with Duke Claire and Huberto

at first year. And in Calgary, he never really got that chance. I remember there was a small sample of games where he got to play with Johnny Godro when it was like four or five games and that was it. Whereas in Florida, they just automatically made him the second line center and said, run with it. Like, we're going to make you the guy. We're going to play with good players. And Calgary didn't do that.

And that's where I hope they kind of learned from that with Zeri. For good and for bad. There's plenty of examples of players who are given opportunity, even if you don't, if you're like, and all of a sudden you're like, holy shit, he's very good. It happened.

And then there's other guys where you're like, why are we not giving this guy the opportunity? I mean, if you're never given the opportunity, it's impossible. Yeah. No, and I think in both instances, there's been some opportunity given,

but the merit thing keeps happening where we're like, well, Bennett did get outplayed by man, you got passed by all these guys, just like we're seeing with zero, right now. You're like, Gritton's clearly passed him. I think if I'm guessing, I'd say Hansik passes him this year. And it's like, that's a big guess. No, that's injured too. My guess. My guess. Just a guess. But like

the small sample of Hansick last year, I liked a lot more than what we saw from Zerri. And again, it's the first year of injury. Plenty of Hansick where I've not liked as well. Fair. I just, the challenge that it's a philosophical thing is it, do we just staple them in the lineup and give them the opportunity and just cover our eyes when it's not pretty? Or are you like, we are a hard, We can't do this. Other guys deserve these minutes more. And I lose credibility as a coach. If this guy's in here just because he was a first rounder.

That's the, that's, that's, that's the battle. So philosophical. It is a bit philosophical, but I don't, what are you trying to achieve? That's exactly. Where, where are you as a team right now? This is the time for, for any franchise, what are you trying to achieve? So I would say down the middle, you're going to very, you're, you're, you're making bullshit up. What are you trying to achieve?

Well, you're trying to get good in the next. five years. You're trying to win a fucking Stanley Cup. If you're not, I don't want to come watch. Yeah, that should be every team school. So I don't give a shit to find out if we've got another fourth line winger or a third line winger because that's not going to, that's not a second line winger would be nice, but yeah. Like, you, the point, all the point I'm trying to make is you need to find out

if guys can be core pieces. Yeah. And I want them to be. People are going to hear this. Why do you hate Zeri? I would love Zeri to be so good that they trade fair me and get assets back. Like, go do it. I'd love it. I'd love them to have so many good players that they can liquidate older guys into assets.

But I just, I keep coming back to this spot where it's just like, at some point he's going to have to show something. Like, we're not talking about a 19 goal guy that's getting benched. Like, he is struggling to get 10 goals. And he's not going to show that on the fourth line, though. And he's not going to show that in the prep. A couple minutes with. But that's why. It's one bad year, though.

Like, like I thought in 2425, his first half before he got hurt, he was their most dangerous player. like he was creating offense like he was the guy that's attacked the defense on other teams more than anyone else the pre the pre the pre injuries there is the guy we all want and and that's what i want to see and if he shows up then great then maybe he turns into like a morgan frost you can have moving morgan frost and replace him a zeri and if he doesn't become that guy then you just move on like i just i think it's kind of that easy yeah and and again who knows them best awesome we're experts we're not casuals the flames right like we we watch a lot they see even more. Yeah. What were they willing to

to do this summer with them? No, trade them. For what? Nothing. Well, second round pick. And did anyone offer that? No. So what is the consensus around the league about what this guy's value? Well, right now, it's low. Right now, it's not good, but they could turn around, though. Oh, for sure. And like I said, I want it to. Yeah. And there is a chance

that he is an excellent second line winger. I would be interested. But it's a bad, it's not great when the entire league looks and says, because when Sam Bennett was on the market, other teams are like, no, no, no, no. We can rehab this. That didn't happen was there. That's fine. I would be

interested to see what Frost and Farabee's numbers are in terms of years ago. Like, wow, we're looking at this going 25 points of shit. So at 24, what were they? Right? I would say, like, Frost has proven that he's a center. Zeri hasn't. And the offensive numbers

would be in favor of Frost. Fairby slightly in favor. But I don't think it's crazy for him to get to those kind of totals. I don't think he's going to do it at center, but I think he could play it. He was kind of on-paced to do it in 24, 25. I mean, you know, he was on pace for almost 20 goals that year. He had a great start at the injuries.

Yeah. Yeah. Like, say you're in the locker room and, and you see Ryan Huska give Connor Zerry the third line center spot. And, and he's essentially giving it to him. Zeri hasn't earned that. You as a player,

are you kind of pissed off saying, well, he didn't earn it or are you like, good, let's give this guy a chance. No, first of all, if you have animosity towards your other,

to your teammates, your room of shit. Yeah, I don't worry about that so much. Tell then. I would There's a bit of the philosophy and whatever your meritocracy.

Hubbardow does not need to play. I am serious. I don't get if he's healthy or not. I don't need him in them. Like, put him in the stands. And I'm just going to sound like maybe a D about it. But what are we finding out with him? Well, you want to find out if the hip resurface exchange.

Why? What difference does it make to our franchise if Jonathan Huberdo has a better hip than he did last year? You got to rebuild his value. Like I think you want to move on that contract to trade him. Yeah. Oh, at the expense of finding out of some of your other kids are good, I think that's a bad tradeoff.

So the point I'm getting at is this is how I would approach it. I'm playing four lines. Yeah. And even if it's Igor in the rafters or Cyplikov, who cares? I don't care who it is. I definitely. I was terrible to start last year. And he still always ends up getting close to 20.

But again, you know what Igor is. If you need to move Igor for a bit to get terribly. That's my point is that you have players that are not going to be core or any, their place. They're place. Yes. Yeah. There's a lot of placeholders here.

Spread it out. Like Frost is a placeholder. Strom is a placeholder. Farabies is a placeholder. Fairbys a placeholder. Dackland. Yeah. I don't need to see Backland.

And I get that. I harp on Backland. It's like he doesn't need to play 20. He's the only guy that can play the T's one at center. That's the thing. You have to find out, Ryan. We don't care if. if Michael Backland can play D at Sender this season.

No, you know. I don't care. I know he can. Yeah. And again, I'm with you. I just know what a coach that's going to be judged. But that coach, then the coach is going to be on the hot seat. That's it.

And that's where Craig Connery needs to step in and say, hey, this season is all about our young players. It's all about development. You remember a year ago, these. I'm supposed to do more Peter Marr. This wonderful humans don't on saddle don't rise. Five God. The best of hopes and intentions and beliefs.

I think a lot of them thought it. And I think Huska, God, again, give him credit for what he's done. I think he does do a great job. But there has to be a point where you need kids that can come along and make a difference. And if you're not going to play them and find out, it's going to be, well, then keep getting old bastards that are going to be just middle of the road. Playholders. Great. And if their goal was to be bad in 24, 25, 25, 26, they would have traded Cadre, Weeger, Anderson.

I think they would have moved those guys earlier and signal that this is a legit rebuild. But they kept around quite a few veterans. It felt like Coleman, too. It felt like Christmas last year is when they really actually committed to tearing this down. And they've never done that in my lifetime, ever. They've had rebuilds that they were forced into because they were bad at running hockey teams, but they've never chosen a path. I don't think they've ever re- This is it.

For Living rebuilt once. And it was because of bad management. It wasn't a path he chose. And it was one year. And, you know, you hit on Johnny. Monaghan plays right away. Cachuk plays. Like, Geo's at a Norris level.

So it, it repels them into a mediocrity. They think they're good enough. This is really their first rebuild they've chosen. For sure. Now, I'll give you one more on zero. and then we'll move on. If you're the GM, I think you are preparing to sell centers at the deadline because centers get

a premium. We saw Goodwinger's move for not much last year. We saw Coleman not get a first. We saw washed up older centers get first. You have Frost and Strom expiring. They are both absolute chips you want to play at the deadline. If you're the GM, do you want Ryan Strom playing 4C

instead of 3C? We're heading into the trade deadline? I don't think it matters. I think the least knows who Ryan's. I agree. I'm asking the question. I think it's probably. I think he gets, no one's trying to uncover the rock. They know.

I think he gets a mid to late round draft pick no matter where he plays in the lineup next season. That's kind of the way I see. Like he's two years removed from what? Like a half point of game? Was he 40 points, 41 points? For like three straight years.

Yeah. So you know what he is. But yeah, it's going to be interesting. His value increase is going to come on. The other guys get an injured. Yeah, but also having a good year. That's always a piece. But you're right.

But like the difference between playing Strom at 3C and Zeri, like Zari could be there for a long time if he hits and he gets back to that form, whereas Strom, he's guaranteed to get traded. So it's like I would rather prioritize Zari in that situation. And then when you trade Strom, I mean, if you get a third round pick or a fifth round pick, does that really make a difference in your rebuild?

No, you know? That's fair. I would say this. They traded for the seventh form. If you can get anything better than that, you've won the deal. That's solid asset management. And you bought a placeholder or what copy he was gone.

It was a good piece of business. The Ryan Strom transaction, is going to be a win no matter what happens from here. It's like you gave up nothing. You found someone to mop up center minutes. That allowed you to move cadre. And he's a great guy. Like, seems like he's fantastic in the locker in which I think they've done a good job

collecting those guys. You talk about White Cloud and only Matta when he was here. And now Middleton, you know, I think Strome fits that group as well. It's like, look, we know that we're not competing for a cup, but we're going to make the room a place you want to be and we're going to work hard. We're not going to quit on games. It's terrible. It's a tough spot to be in around.

It really is. As a player going into the season, you can, Oh, we're going to make the playoffs. 84 games. Jesus. Get out of here. Once they all-star break. If I wanted to lay the perfect path out,

I'm going to cement him in my top nine for a long time here. And you are going to move centers of the deadline. Get Zeri to reestablish strong play if he can on the wing. And then after the deadline and or trades, there's going to be lots of minutes at center. I don't start him with the toughest test. Fair? Yeah. And I think if you want to find a path that, okay, here's our plan to make it work with Zeri. That's what I would. I think we're naive too, because we're not including everyone that's part of their system.

It's great to say we want Zeri to be a centerman. And obviously there's huge value if he can become a centerman. And if he's an elite centerman, even better. But is that Conroy's plan? I don't think it is or he wouldn't been on the block all summer. Right. I think they made the mind of fun argument and fun debate. And I think that he should play it. You might as well find out because I think this season is a throwaway season. Yeah. Terrible to say.

But even if he does, I mean, he's going to have to elevate significantly. Mm-hmm. To cement himself as a just be a top six winger, never mind his center. If he's going to be a top. Yeah. Top six forward. Yeah. Wherever it is top nine.

Mm-hmm. Like I think what we're trying to achieve is he should be on the. third line because we want. I would move. He can prove it. I know they love him and he's going to play the Blake Coleman role, but I have no allegiance to Joel Farabee if you can get you assets. You have too many wingers still.

I agree. Like what? You're going to trade him in a year or not now? Why? What does that gain? Well, and if anything, you might be able to get more for him this year because you're going to have two playoff runs if you're the acquiring team. Five million bucks for a third line winger at the deadline isn't crazy.

Whatever. Yeah. Like, and that would allow you more minutes in the top. for Zeri and Hansik and a theoretically healthy Huberto. Even guys like Cairns maybe and Stronggren, like if you want to give them a chance, Sunneyev. Cairnsis, they're not going to be able to do it. Those are the quadet, you guys.

They're not. It's one of those guys. You see them there. It's another thing, though, like, don't you want to give them an opportunity? I'm telling you, because I'm old, eh, Bob? There's so many guys in the history of the game that are very good minor hockey in the minors. Elite, elite, elite level. Matthew Ellis.

I think I said it. It's hard to play the NHL. It's hard. I thought Walker said that. That was way off. But like you can come along your whole life and be the best of the best of the best and never played the NHO.

Yeah. Yeah, soon as I'm not, I still think there's some ceiling there. But like, Roy Cairns is going to go lead European leagues and scoring and make a ton of money. The sooner he gets over there, the better his career is going to. It's not happening in the NHL because he's going to have to carve out a bottom six center role. And that's going to be the hardest thing to do with his skill set. He's not a top six. No, he's not.

I mean, it's a great guy to have on your American League team, though. And he's quite for game. He can get called up if you run in injury issues or trades. Sure. And that's what's happened in the last two years. He in. He's an insurance. And that's fine.

These are quad A guys. It's not a guy. There's zero chance that Karen's ever becomes an elite player in the NHL. Yeah. Like he'll get his cup of coffee. Yeah. I'm kind of with you. Very good.

I'm kind of worried Red's going to get a scouting job at the flames with the amount of work he's looking for this. They absolutely. I hear they like you. That's weird. Interesting. Bobby Walker's 10 to 1. Yeah, number one, Carson Carl is pretty obvious.

I think he's number one on everybody's list in our top 10 ranking. So that's an easy one. this is kind of where it gets interesting is that number two, I have Ethan Wittenbach there over guys like Cole Reschney. I think with Wittenbach, there's a special quality

about him. Like when you watch him, the passes he makes, the vision he has, the skill, the ability to know where to go to score goals, I think it's like

in that special category. And he's one of those players who grew up, like his dad runs a rink on Long Island. There's so many parallels to Johnny, man. I don't want him to have to live with it, but it's like he wins

the Johnny Goddra, award in the USHL. Similar story. Huge point production. The profile physically is similar. The playmaking ability. A little guy? Yeah. Smaller guy. He's bigger than Johnny was at this time. But still a very small. Small winger. Yeah. But like you watch him at the World Junior.

In like the NCAA and the World Junior Summer showcase. Like he's dominating. He was the best player at the summer show. And it wasn't really close. And it wasn't flames people saying it. It was the prospect nerds that have no team allegiance. So like Wittenback's been unbelievable. Really? I think I think he has a potential to be a point per game player in the league. Like almost like a

Clayton Keller type of guy. Like you watched him? Yeah. Oh, I watched. Bobby, give us the scouting report. I mean, you just did, I guess. I thought he had shitty feet. Yeah, he could work on a skating. He's not quite as shifty and dynamic as Johnny was,

but I just, I think the smarts and the playmaking. What do you mean? He's not as shifty and dynamic as John. That's BS. If you're not going to be that good for me. No job for you. Yeah. You can't be that shifty, son.

You're not making the league. And then, yeah, I go Reschney. I think Reschney is going to be fantastic. I think he's going to be a second line center in the league. I thought at the World Junior. summer showcase. He was Canada's best player by far. Canada's game ran through Cole Reschney. He was awesome at World Juniors

last year, Boy the C in the summer. I think there's more ceiling the year than I thought when the draft. Bob, this is Bob's top 10. He's on first power play unit, first line, playing penalty kill, taking big draws. He was a go-to guy for Canada, the World Juniors last year, and I think he's only going to get better. He was the alpha there for sure. Yeah. The assistant

captain. Then I got yeah, I got Hextall. Number four, Jack Hextall took in this year's draft. I think he's got a nasty, nasty temper, Red. He'll snap. Did he ever lose it on you? No, I was never down near him. Brett was smart enough to.

That's fair. Stay at the blue line. Didn't get any chops from, when you're coming around the net, and he chops you. He's very, heck, same. Double O T, game six, last game of the four. I think he's got the potential to be a legit,

third line center, kind of a defensive guy, shut down guy. So I got him at number four. And there might be some recency bias. there. And there also might be some injury bias with the next three players, Hansick, Potter, Mews. All of them have dealt with injuries over the last year.

So maybe that's one of the reasons why I had them just below Hextall. I'm curious to see what Potter is going to do this year at Michigan State, playing a full year. He's a super dynamic player, great skater. Smaller guys. Incredible pace, apparently. Yeah. It was regard as the best skater in the draft in 2025.

And then we got Sunnius, Stuxlius, and Trayball to finish it off. I think there's a chance for him to be a middle six score at the NHL level, maybe like an 18 to 20 goal guy if he hits the ceiling. Open some winner spots, Connie. Come on. And then we got, yeah, Stux Staley's and Trayball to round it out. So that's my top 10. Anything before we said.

So sad. Well, I'm just looking at this. So sad. No, no, no. No, I'm talking. Every team would have 10 guys. The guys rating it. How many are going to make it back?

Yeah, if half those guys are, players, you've hit a home row. Right? It's not a criticism. It's sad because these guys working their asses off, trying to be the best. They want to be impactful. And it just won't happen that three years from now, we see every one of those kids. You see half here and you've done an incredible job.

That's why I think it's actually, I think this rebuild's going to take longer than a lot of people think. Shut up Bob. Cut his mic. You know, people are talking about like two to three years. I want to say thanks to Bobby Germany for coming out. All right. It's been great having him. Crystal Waters.

like, it takes time. That's so. Message to you. The key, though, is if they want to get out this rebuild quick is, like you guys said,

probably five of those guys have to be difference makers within the next three to four years. The other thing, Carl's got to be a legit top pair guy, and Wittenbach's got to be 70, 80 points, and Reschee's got to be a top six center. The other thing you do is you do what Connie did this summer,

which is you take a 16 and 17-year-old kid that's not drafted yet and turn those two assets into Simon. Or Simon, what are he's calling him? You tell me. Okay. You know more than I do. What you do is you have a meeting with Mr. Huska and say,

don't you go and mess us up. All right, I'll show you my top 10. I think we've got a lot of similarities and then a few little differences here. The top is the same in Carl's. I have Ressiony had a Wittenback just because I think centers are so premium and hard to find. And I think Wittenback has a chance to be great.

There's also a chance that he's one of those profiles that can't produce at the NHL level. I love the prospect, but I have Rishney higher. Big Mews, Stan. We looked at Mews numbers the other day. If you didn't have so many Rage. D already arrived, you'd be foaming over this guy more.

If you were a bottom 10 team in the league, this would be your top prospect. All he's done is put up points everywhere. He's gone and been great injury last year. Heard some ditto for Potter. I would call him weather. News, weather. News.

And then Hanzik, I have been a yo-yo on this guy. I've been very high. I've been, it's never going to happen, and I'm kind of back. I really like the small sample we saw last year on the back line. He's big, he can fly.

I don't think the IQ is great, but he's strong and a banger and has enough skill that he can bang some pucks in. He's a big winger. He brings speed to the table, which this flames team desperately needs. I think he'd be a good fore-checker. I think you could teach him how to be a good defensive player and a penalty killer.

my thing is turn him into Blake Coleman do everything you can to turn this guy into Blake Coleman and if you can do that I think you'd be really happy Shackless Lamov is a guy that's interesting profile big and skilled so we'll see what happens there I heard of this person What round was he taking Bobby three I want to say?

Yeah or end of round two Yeah either way just a toolsy prospect And I'm a little lower on Hextel because I think the feet are the big question mark everything else everyone loves But it's even at the summer stuff Skating started to show up and that's not against NHLers. It doesn't mean he can't figure that out

or improve enough to become a good centerman. There's also a really good sentiment that don't skate well. I love the line of the lives of the world Monaghan. But that's got me a little more concerned because that's a trait I think is crucial. That's my top 10. I like it.

and I'm visiting him all the time and I'm helping him out like crazy. Because I think if he could turn it to that level of player, the flames would be very happy to get a guy like that at six. Throw that one of the bobby, your eyes list up right now. It doesn't matter which one. Not looking at the numbers, but just for it. Rebuilds do take time and you look at a San Jose team that's not there yet, but close. How many years have they been doing this a long time?

How old are their prospects? You know, last year is what, the second year of Celebrini's career and he's a superstar. This team doesn't have that. But this spring, those top three guys are all going to sign unless they get hurt. win back said it Carl's has said it Resny's said it like their goal

is to dominate the league they're in and then sign dominate the world juniors try to win a goal of world juniors try to win a national championship of the Frozen 4 and when your team is eliminated

pen to paper let's go Potter the same thing Potter's interesting because like he did miss significant time last year I want to see where he's at in a better program this is a third college year

which I think is pretty interesting so he might want to turn pro after all those years well and the other thing is if you're the flames, even if you think maybe he's not quite ready, you don't want to lose him for nothing, you sign him. You get him in the system. Exactly. If he goes into a senior season, the threat of departure becomes way higher. Do you, okay, so you had Mews at four. Do you have any intel or anything like why you put him so high, like, or like what the flames think about him?

Like, why is he so high on your list compared to some of the others? When you, like, for example, if you go to Byron Bader's hockey prospecting website, you can look at, you know, the probability of profiles paying off. So when you're this age and this league putting up this kind of production. Here's how often this turns into a good player, an average player, or bus. And he's been tracking along to be like a fringy star the whole way. And if he didn't get injured

last year, he might be a rank for this year. I don't know. But like, you can't look at anything he's done and be like, uh, he really took a step back. No, he just continues to put a point wherever he goes. He's going to take a step back this year. He's in Michigan and Landon. So we'll, we'll see how they do that. See, this is the thing. Pitter just goes to other people's stuff and uses that.

It's called research because I'm not a scout. I know Boomer hates it, but I do talk to other people that their job is to watch hockey players. Got us to do that and read articles. I know. I think it makes sense from a Wrangler perspective because they need offense. I mean, last year, the offense was anemic. Like, it just, it was not good down. There's a bad.

Unwatchable team last year. Really bad. And they lost Martin Furk this year. I bet you they might lose maybe like an offender or a Karens or strong green on waivers. Maybe one of those guys potentially. The flames might call up the Sunnius. So like the Wranglers, they need help.

Yes. They really do. And they've overhauled that roster. Big time. And the blue line is completely turned over, which is crazy. The other thing is that it's a PTO. He has not signed with the Rangers. So he might be a perfect fear of the Wranglers and decide to go play in Sweden or whatever.

Like he's not going to the Wranglers necessarily at all. I think he'd love to have him there. For sure, you would. Because he's a proven good H.L. But it's PTO's. PTO's. I mean, this isn't Chris Verstieg, who you know could play in the league and pick the right spot. This is a very different scenario.

It's night and day. Yes. It's like an all-star team versus. Arizona lost like eight, nine guys this year through the portal. Yeah, that deal. So I think it makes a lot of sense for Potter. I'm excited to see what he can do. I hope he makes the World Junior team.

Having a good prospect pool doesn't mean anything about the NHL team. But it's better to have a good one than a bad one. Especially the position the flames are in right now. You've got a stack

a scratch and win tickets. The bigger the stack, the better the chances are you are finding core pieces. So it doesn't mean you're going to be good in X number of years. It just means you've got a better chance of finding good players. That's, have as many good prospects as possible. Many will fail. Hopefully some become stars. I believe Chicago and San Jose were one and two on the list for a good reason. Yeah. Well, they've been picking high for a long time. Yeah. That would be the good reason. I'm guessing. I think the flames will be right there in two or three years in terms of their prospect. Well, they'll probably be right there with Chicago and San Jose in terms of the young talent.

Well, Chicago and San Jose are going to be graduating guys every year and the flames will probably be picking very high this year. So it wouldn't be crazy to see them one, two across most lists a year from now. We'll see. What happens if they win the lottery and they're looking at Land and DuPont? That's a hell of a good problem to have, Bobby. I'll tell you that. Another skilled right shot defenseman.

I think it'll be interesting to see how that all plays out. I don't. You just draft them. I was going to say, the gap's big enough. you take him and then you have the good problem of having too many good plays. That's what I find interesting. It's who do you move out after you take a guy like DuPont,

Don't see you guys go back to back or you just play your vets at home. I think they should pull Darrell Sutter and just have the NHL roster ready to go from day one. A's against the B's. Yeah. They might. We'll see. It's different. You're going to have to adjust.

Do you want the exclusivity in a growing market, or do you want the big TV audience? They want to have two more teams in this league in time for a new TV deal

when the US one expires when what five years? I think they don't care as long as they get the most money. They just want two and a half billion they don't have to share with the players. I agree, right?

They're probably happy in either. Yeah, it doesn't matter. And then you say, we'll go to the other city if you don't build us a rink with your money. You soak the taxpayers and then you get to spread the $2.5 billion

for all the owners and you don't have to share with the players. They'll do whatever you want. Interesting. Now, long term, what do you think would be the more successful franchise? What's city? I'd lean on.

Austin, because Houston's been there forever, and it hasn't happened. Yeah. And Austin doesn't have any pro sports. I mean, they have the MLS and they have Texas Longhorns. I think I had some F1. There's not big four. Yeah, it feels like the type of move the NHL has made. You know, they went to Columbus with no one had.

They went to Nashville and no one had. San Jose when no one had. They didn't go to the big crowded markets with other teams to compete against. If you're in Houston, you're now trying to sell sweets to people that probably already have suites to the Astros and the Texans and Rockets. Rockets. never mind Houston universe like there's

NHL is number four in most markets you have a chance to go be not number four in Austin in a growing city and sure in Houston you might get the biggest TV deal just because of the audience I think it's the six biggest TV market in in the United States but I think in Austin I think you'll get that kind of grassroots

movement where the entire city gets behind the team because it's all they really have they also have the stars farm team they love that team it's it's Houston does have a hockey history the WHA house played there. They had HL team forever until about 10 years ago.

Rich Preston. Rico, of course. How can you forget? But I would lean Austin. And the question is, like, you probably don't want 33. Like, we're literally going to be talking about 34. Yeah. Can't Arizona get their shit in order in time?

Can't have another one out west, could they? It's going to be Atlanta. It's going to be Atlanta. Well, they want it to be Atlanta for some reasons. I think they have two counties. They'll have going to build brand new arenas. So what you need is the equivalent in Scottsdale. And then then we have a debate.

There's so many people that move out from like out east, New York, Boston, in Chicago that are like big hockey fans that would support that team. No one wanted to try to glend base there. It doesn't have to be people from elsewhere. That's a hockey city that had the shittiest owner we've ever seen.
