Starting point is 00:00:15 And we're good. We're ready to roll. It is Barnburner here on another chilly day in the city of Calgary. It's Boomer, it's Warner, it's Pinder. It is chilly. You're right. She's brisk. That la Nina, she's a bitch.
Starting point is 00:00:30 Is she? La feminine, right? Yeah. Niña. It's not French, though. L. La. Mascula feminine.
Starting point is 00:00:35 So tell me, Rhett, what, so La Nina, is that Spanish? Is that French? Is that French? What are you dealing with? Portuguese. Portuguese. There you go. You heard it here first, folks.
Starting point is 00:00:45 Ah, beauty. Lots to get to today. We got a busy show. We have a guest joining us just after the top of the hour. We have, you know, we're giving back. New things. New stuff. New things.
Starting point is 00:00:57 Yep. Lots of new things on the go. As, uh, how about Blasty? Well, how about you yesterday, by the way? I believe you provided the intelligence on Dylan Dubay loving Blasty. Six games. last year wearing the blasty four goals for dubay this one took how long a minute i feel like uh the anthem
Starting point is 00:01:22 was still echoing in the building and he's had a shorthy out of boy dubes 305 in you know who loves that by the way our boy surge yeah surge uh surge from tower him some dylan duby hey i told you i said it doleyn dobe hey i told you i said it too i'm guessing that's what it would sound like it is yeah i believe i'm guessing if it was surging me ah i told you i told you about dobs now to be fair he said 20 times he's been right three times but last night was one of the times he was right yeah 20 second game of the year is it 22 already yeah game 22 uh there's warner you got your coffee you got your yankee cap you're ready to roll here uh today geez oh just made it himself yeah for a for a coffee uh your thoughts on a uh big six to win the offense that we said was struggling
Starting point is 00:02:11 came through now sergey bravsky had a bit of a lot he helped a lot What can we do to get him to help more often? Awesome. Because I don't see him on the schedule the rest of the year. No, no. Barring a trade. Nah, but the flame, don't belittle. The flames were buzzing.
Starting point is 00:02:25 They were buzzing. First period was as good as they've played. Hey, four points against the Panthers, Rhett. They win the trade. Case closed. Yeah, that's right. There you go. Big win for tree.
Starting point is 00:02:37 Summer of Brad. The fall of Brad. I mean, look at this. Four points against the Panteros? Now, so do you feel better about the extension? Or is that just the trade? The trades won the extension is still up for debate? I think he liked the trade.
Starting point is 00:02:48 I think the extensions he's worried about. Exactly. It was wonderful. You were bitching about the trade. You said, well, I don't you get some younger guys? Why did you have to go get these old guys? No, no, no. I was okay with the trade.
Starting point is 00:03:00 Then I thought you'd put them in the lineup, let them play, see how the season goes. Sign them or don't sign them come Christmas time and get a feel for them. Are they fitting in? Are they good? If they're no good, you can dump them for huge returns. I think they're getting better too, Rhett. It hasn't been great, but I think it's getting better.
Starting point is 00:03:18 Your thoughts? I thought we're the last week has really started to, I guess getting back with Tanna. What was it? Was it Carolina? I thought he was really good in Carolina. And then last night, yep. TANIV solid. So, yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:33 Yeah, put Tantab next to anyone. They're going to look good. I like it. It's like playing with me. Pretty much, yeah. Imagine how much TANV's shoulders hurt right now after that last. Yeah. he's going to feel like crap just like his oh for sure he is the old redster so the uh the lines
Starting point is 00:03:52 happy yeah i even and again dubei scores three minutes in but even beyond that i thought that the cadre man japani dubai line was noticeably engaged and better energetic looked like the first seven games remember that dynamic start that line had and you're like whoof i like these three together um and rooch rzichka uh slidly down to the third line. That's the first time he's played with backland and Coleman. I don't mind him there. It's a good fit. I thought he looked good there. He looked fast last night, Rooch. See, we're going to make this stick. I was trying. No, it's kidding. We're going to make it stick. Once Looch each goes to eat popcorn for the last half of the year. Someone's got to be
Starting point is 00:04:32 ooh. It'll be Rootch. Are we just, are we just pawning off the, the ass that's bruise? So if you have a U and if you have a U and a C in your name, we have to chant it. Rhett, your knowledge of Slovakian is quite little. Mine even less. I'm going with Roach. Deal with it.
Starting point is 00:04:54 Okay. I mean, you do you. Whatever you want to do there. So there, looking at the lines on the old YouTube's there. Huberto goes back up. To Folli, nice game. We had talked about before the show started. He's been good. Kind of wondered about
Starting point is 00:05:10 what he was going to be like this year. It's not a good year. It's been good. Hubert will look much again he's kind of gaining some steam look quick look confident look happy and it's his former team maybe that weighs in but he's looked a little bit better Lindholm I thought said a really good week here Plus you know that I thought they didn't get along Lendholm and
Starting point is 00:05:28 I don't know Darrell also told us that Hubie was taking a shit And he was hurt so I don't know what to believe anymore He also said he doesn't pull goals is he else said Vladar once a week like all of a sudden we got a track record on this liar This lying rancher how dare he Is that what he is? Oh, yeah, you said it rained? I don't even know.
Starting point is 00:05:44 I got to go out there and see myself. This liar said it rained. How am I supposed to know if it rained? So there's the forward lines. We talked about it again with Weger and Tanev. Yes, please. That's good. I think Anderson is, I don't even know if it's quietly.
Starting point is 00:06:00 I mean, the points are there. What a great night for him. What a night for him. I mean, after it gets three nothing, I kind of think you got to throw out a lot of what happened. But he was great in the first. He was really solid, integral to that great start they had. 24 and a half minutes, it almost feels like now on this power play that we've been bitching about,
Starting point is 00:06:17 and it's still not great, but the entries, it's almost on him as much as anybody to get into the zone and make something happen. They have the drop back, the bump back, or whatever you want to call it, to cadre, and that's maybe or maybe not working on any given night. He's by default or, you know, lack of better options, I guess, maybe, but he's a big part of that power play now. Yeah, he's turned into, I think, a guy where you're, before you're squinting, you're like, who's running the power play? like it shouldn't be geo. I don't like Hanif in there.
Starting point is 00:06:45 Like what are we? Brody back in the day. You're like no. Like who's, who's their power play guy since Dougie left? Well, I think finally you're starting to get comfy with a guy being back there on P.P.1 on defense. And it's Rasmus for sure.
Starting point is 00:06:58 An old, old Chuckie. Who? Matthew Kachuk. It's a very quiet night for him in a way. He looked like himself. He just didn't get any bounces around the net. I think he had seven shot attempts,
Starting point is 00:07:10 which is more than any flame. He had a few net side things. things that he does, but they just didn't click for him. And yeah, he wasn't particularly physical or pesty, what, one hit. Yeah. Who's going to fight, Kachuk? What's going to happen? It was very, yeah, like, I mean, it was.
Starting point is 00:07:27 It was obvious that he was now and the end of the year. That seems like the new NHL, not who's going to fight tonight. Like, is there a guy there? Yeah, not even the big. Luch doesn't even want to do it. What about Roach? Roach, does Roach fight? Roach is dead.
Starting point is 00:07:40 I don't think Roach should. I feel like if Roach, Hey, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe that'll be his calling card over the years. See, I feel like Richie is closer to being a Rooch than Roositschka. Who, again, what, fifth of the year last night? Did he score again, hey? Richie again.
Starting point is 00:07:59 See, I kind of chalked that one up to. Bobber? Yeah, Bob's a double agent. How much of that 10 million of the flames paying? Because there's no way that buck should ever go in. And just a reminder. Oh, only active goaltender with two Veznes. Worst goal maybe you've seen all year.
Starting point is 00:08:18 Yep. Price has got one and he's hurt. And no one else is two. Baselowski's only got one. Yep, there it is. How many years are left on that deal for him? Four or three, depending if you count this year, I believe. Well, let's say after this year then, because we're in it.
Starting point is 00:08:37 Yeah, I would think there's three after the show. Out of full ten? Cap hit. Obviously, the money's maybe different depending on how they front or back loaded that. It doesn't matter. It's the cap on A&AV, not on actual dollars. Mind you, look, castones, glass houses, that sort of thing. Flames have a $6 million backup. So it's not a lot different. Is it a backup or is, are you allowed to have two guys that play more than two games? It's clearly a backup. It's a lot of money for your.
Starting point is 00:09:05 I'll tell you what, guy that doesn't play a lot. If Mark's going to be a backup for two weeks, they're winning a lot. What's that red? See, I'm with you. Don't bury the lead. Don't bury the bit. Right? That's a lot to spend on a backup.
Starting point is 00:09:17 It's too much, some might say, and I would be one of them. Now, what kind of a haul could you get for a $6 million backup on the trademark? I don't know. That's a good question. You can't play both sides, right? If you're calling him a backup, who's looking for a backup? Only 6 mil. And three years left with a no move.
Starting point is 00:09:37 Well, remember, though, when Kipper got traded, he was third stringer. Three years left on Bob after this. Right? But he ended up being a starter. Just because Markstrom's a backup here doesn't mean is a backup on every team in the NHH. Well, Wolf's the third stringer here. That's the real magic there.
Starting point is 00:09:51 So maybe there's a team out there that's got some goaltending issues or some injuries. Like, well, maybe that backup in Calgary would be all right for us. It's a bit, you know, maybe the flames could eat some money. All joking aside, I do feel like this is a summer that you probably have three guys. If Dustin Wolf has a season, anything like the one he had last year, it's like time to graduate. Is he?
Starting point is 00:10:14 Like they have been playing as how's the wolf dog? I mean, they're leading their division and he's been really solid after letting in what five on the first night of the year? Wolf dog. He's not a wolf kind of a wolf. It's already kind of a dog. It's a canine. No, it's a canine for sure. I almost called him a wolf cat, but that didn't.
Starting point is 00:10:33 No. It's a bear cat. It's a bear cat. It's a bear cat. Is the light in my house flickering or am I stroking? No, it's flickering for sure. They're not mutual exclusive, you cheap prick. Like, from what?
Starting point is 00:10:45 I don't know. Some shoddy wiring in that house. You're in Buffalo. You tell us. Do you smell smoke? Run for your life. Run, rat. Vlidar.
Starting point is 00:10:58 Drupier. Is my face droopier? Yeah, just on the one side. Don't worry about it. It's fine. Just on your right side. I mean, we'll get back into it. Vlodar has been very good.
Starting point is 00:11:10 Yeah, he deserves a bit of a run here. Don't you. run with him now? It's Montreal in a couple days. Get in. So I'm looking at the old sked here. They don't have any back-to-back action for a while. It's kind of every other day.
Starting point is 00:11:22 Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Monday, Wednesday, Friday. The next back-to-back is not this weekend, but the following one. They go Columbus for Johnny Knight on a Friday and then into Toronto on the Saturday. So I don't, I think Daryl would love to ride a hot goalie and watch Markstrom start to brood a little. What kind of marks him to get your next start? I bet you it's a good one.
Starting point is 00:11:46 Do you? Do you think that's what, Darrell? Well, I mean, I don't know. You certainly know Darrell better than me, but I like the idea of you don't have to name Vladar, you're one, but by all means, for two weeks, ride a hot hand. I don't think Darrell's against that.
Starting point is 00:12:02 If we know one thing is that Darrell doesn't really like backups, so he would be sour with Mark Straub. He likes third stringers. Vladar is his guy but he's been good even because you look at that game that he plays in Boston they don't win but he was tremendous
Starting point is 00:12:18 he was really good against his old team I thought he was really solid against Carolina and then the game before that he got in was but Pittsburgh he was really strong and only like one has stopped 124 of 132 which I mean it's got kind of yeah it's like 940-ish
Starting point is 00:12:35 930 so yeah the save he made makes on Bennett in the third period right before the Tofoli goal, that's a pivotal point in that game. It didn't quite feel like next goal wins, but it had that vibe. It was like, I remember saying it to the Wolverine, we were at the game last night. I was like, last year's Flames team scores the next goal, and this thing is put to bed. This year's Flames team has allowed the next goal, and now you're in a one goal game that you led by three at one point, and everyone puckers. And it felt like that saves, stop that from happening.
Starting point is 00:13:07 As soon as they scored the first one, I started to feel that way. Oh shit. They got to lead too soon. It's too soon, guys. Don't score yet. I'm like, oh, God, now they're back in the game. They're gone.
Starting point is 00:13:18 So. Nice play by Manja Paddy. Oh, man. He's racked. That's, what a night for him. That was big. The shoveler was even excited for that. Really?
Starting point is 00:13:31 Could use her out here. A little skiff. It's kind of creepy. A bit of a skiff, yeah. Skiff last night. And then, of course, so you start the game with a Dubay goal, you cap it with a Manjapani goal from Dubay. If we talked, whether yesterday we've been talking about for a while,
Starting point is 00:13:47 if those two guys want to pick it up a little bit, get it going, makes all the difference. Yeah. Well, we were talking about it. He was way more noticeable. Yeah, he looked a little off, but he was also due some luck, and you see both he was better and he got a little luck last night. And didn't even have to.
Starting point is 00:14:04 to run the goalie, Red. There you go. Didn't even have to run Bobbara. Wow. You know what? I would say he should have ran the goalie. Except Bobber was doing just fine, screwing things up. Run Spencer Knight, not Bob.
Starting point is 00:14:17 That's the point. Right into the bench, just head first. So I was at the game, what happened on this review? What were they looking at, whether there was a kick? Because it did go skating in, right? That's what I think they were looking at. Yeah, I'm guessing looking for a kicking motion. It's just pinball in there.
Starting point is 00:14:33 It took a long time. The longer it went to, I was like, what it would have been, retro. Did anybody bump Bob? But you look at Bob here, he's given up on this puck. The one angle of it from the other side. You can see, he's like, oh, the puck's there. Am I going to dive across and try and stop this? Because it's probably just going in.
Starting point is 00:14:52 Are I going to bother with this? Come on, Dee. You're right. He rolls over. Like, look at it just kind of rolls over. And then he lays there kind of looking. Like you would think as a goal, you're diving with that paddle across to try and keep it out. Oh, fuck it.
Starting point is 00:15:06 He thought he had it squeezed. He thought he had the fuck. This is the one here. It's like, okay, do I have it? No, it's maybe back there. Like, no attempt to move the paddle or anything. I love Bob. I'm going to make you puke.
Starting point is 00:15:19 You guys ready for this? I think the NHL season's like 181 or 82 days. Guess how much Bob's making a day? I don't even, I don't have any context. 55K a day. So every two weeks, 770 grand every two weeks. That's why he's rolling over like that.
Starting point is 00:15:40 He's like, ah, well, you know, the weather's still nice in Florida. When are we out of here? That Florida state tax is a killer, though. Is it? Wait, what? What state tax? Great shot from Anderson there. Isn't it?
Starting point is 00:15:52 It was a good shot. Man, this is just, they're getting a good rub down here today from us, aren't they? Yeah, I know. Well, you know what? Take it because they get the other end of it. It's been a lot of the other side to be fair. on this show. There'll be a few guys feeling good about it. And the roller coaster was great last night.
Starting point is 00:16:14 The roller coaster was. He was going up instead of down. It was good. And I like him in third pair. It's just a little more sheltered. Not a huge difference. But yeah, you got a great top four and then ride the Zad Dog Express
Starting point is 00:16:29 a little bit less, but love it. Look at Richie. He knows what he's doing here. You can call it a fluky goal. You can say Bobrovsky didn't play it well. This is just smart. Two Vesmes. Smart hockey.
Starting point is 00:16:40 Highest paid goalie. Healthy. Root. Rich. Rich. Stop it. Don't confuse the people. I'm not confusing anybody.
Starting point is 00:16:48 I'm not confusing anybody. Like, is this dog shit or what? Richie's got five goals. And a couple of them are of this brand. Oh. But it's five goals from a fourth line guy. He hasn't been a problem at all. He's a fourth.
Starting point is 00:17:04 line guy. And that's the thing. We talk about who can, where can you upgrade? And I think Richie gets because he's what he is. He's on that fourth line. If you are subscribing or you're okay with that role of a player on your fourth line, he has been just fine. By the way, really quick, I love this sequence where Richie is absolutely screwed. He's lost his blade. Everyone in the building knows it. Apparently, except for the Panthers who flip it out a play. It's like you had a power play there for 30 seconds. All you had to do was keep it in play. Whoops. Out of play. It's like there's their night. That's their night in a nutshell. You're screwed. And yeah, I think the veteran Daryl fourth line guys have taken some heat, but Richie and Lewis to me
Starting point is 00:17:48 haven't been an issue. It's been Lucci and Rooney that you're like, please be a little more replacement levely because, yeah. Well, I was watching Longberg last night and I'm like, how much better would it be to have Lomburg making Oh, speedy little bugger? Yeah. Yeah. Irritating people, getting people pissed off and
Starting point is 00:18:08 annoying them. The Lombardine? Now, you were out the game. Did they do the wave at any point to screw, to potentially screw with the outcome? I didn't see it. It might have happened late
Starting point is 00:18:19 when we went to Duddies because this thing was over when they got up by three. Oh, Duddies. Last a couple minutes. You've got to get down to Duddies before it queues up. Tuesday, though.
Starting point is 00:18:28 We could have waited a bit. You can do the one. way when you're up three in the last two minutes. So I didn't see any egregious wave fouls last night. So there's Florida. They've what now? Lost six or seven. Geez, one, three and three. So there's some loser points in there. And they're at the point right now where they almost can't play Bobrovsky's, because this is about three or four in a row where he's let in four, five in a hurry. And even when Spencer Knight was looking good, he ends up allowing four against Ebenton the other night.
Starting point is 00:18:59 Now, no bark off. He's a difference maker for sure. their best player. And I, Reinhardt, Kachuk, Barkov, this is a very skilled team. Their D's not good enough.
Starting point is 00:19:11 Yeah, I wonder. I think they're Mark Stahl playing in your top four. That tells me, you're not deep. And when they missed Eckblad, it was like,
Starting point is 00:19:22 whoa. Josh Mahura. Waver claim. Forzling. Waiver claim. Been good. Forcing. Waiver claim.
Starting point is 00:19:30 It was a couple of years ago. And, yeah, probably more Radco than you need. because when he's out there, he doesn't come back to the bench, he goes to the penalty box and then comes back to the bench. I was looking at the game notes yesterday, and the Florida teams handle their own game notes, and they'll give you some stats. Hey, did you know this and that and that sort of thing. Hey.
Starting point is 00:19:50 And it was under the title of the heading, the butcher. They're calling him the butcher. That fits. It kind of does. Yeah, he's not a candlestick maker. He's a butcher. Yeah. It's right.
Starting point is 00:20:04 Baker. He's, no, no, no, Benny the butcher is a buffaloonian,
Starting point is 00:20:09 he's a rapper. He's a big time rapper. Really? And he's huge. He does the bills songs and he's big in music that I don't know much about. Benny the butcher?
Starting point is 00:20:20 Yeah. I'm looking them up. This is exciting stuff. I met this guy. Got a picture with him for some reason. I don't know how. How's my lyrics here? It was on my phone.
Starting point is 00:20:33 No, Be careful. Yeah. Yeah, I don't want to get canceled. Anyway, Benny the Butcher. Is that what would happen? We could... Wouldn't we cancel?
Starting point is 00:20:41 I just think YouTube gets mad at you if there's copyrighted stuff. They're really anal about music, right? Spotify, too, I think. Is Goudas the biggest epitome of Meathead in the league? I'm surprised the flames have been signed him. I feel like they've loved them for years. Wouldn't he be your perfect Derek England number six, seven? Honestly?
Starting point is 00:21:02 I think he makes money, though. That is the problem. The problem. Yeah, the time for a discount is long since past. Yeah. I wish we had the availability to go back as one of my favorite sarcastic player profiles of all times with Walker. It was when he did Radco Gudis and he ran through a whole bunch of things that just called him stupid and not smart. And then at the end, of course, he puts the bow on it.
Starting point is 00:21:25 Tonight at the dome, it's whoever. It's Radco Gudis and the Florida Panthers. Radco Gudis. Dumb. Like just, we don't know if he's dumb. We don't know that. But he does have meathead vibes to your point, Red. Doesn't he?
Starting point is 00:21:43 Kind of does. It's a great number. As long as Walker. Second best number seven and. Sorry. Is it? Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:52 It's got to be a few better than that. I don't know who else is war number. I'll find right now. I don't know either. So last night, we had not one but two people from our social accounts. Yeah. Subscribe to our YouTube channel. win tickets to that game. So good on you. The next chance for you to head off to the
Starting point is 00:22:08 rink is shortly, December 5th, Monday, the Arizona Coyotes. Maybe we're actually going to make it work in the desert dogs. Some news yesterday. We'll get to the Pinda Report. Yeah, yeah. I just stay. You've been there for so long. I know that the team hasn't been good and the rank situation hasn't been great. Just figure it out. And for all the shots we've taken at the league and the crappy owners they've had and the horrible setup in Glendale and now the junior B rank they're playing in terms of size. And that's all earned. But I still think that could be a really good hockey market.
Starting point is 00:22:45 And I think it kind of was when they played at the old basketball arena back in the day. And part of it has been no reason to cheer for that team because they've been so bad. It's true. In the boardroom and in the general, everything, it's been so dysfunctional. Because maybe you have a team that's in the running. for tops in their division every year, but everything else stinks, they've had nothing going for them. Well, and I always liken them to the Panthers and the senators. There's only three teams in the league that have a rink in the middle of nowhere that's not near the city. And that works for NFL when you've
Starting point is 00:23:19 got like eight home games a year. And that's it. You make a weekend of it. But when there's 41 home dates, you don't want to have to commute to the rink. And Florida, when they're good, crowds are good. Look at them now. They're great attendance-wise. They drew more than the flames did last year, albeit with some pandemic stuff here. Ottawa, young team, they're exciting. They're starting to draw better again. Put it rank downtown. I think it could be a hit there.
Starting point is 00:23:42 I really do. Downtown's the wrong word. Tempe's closer to where people live and have money. Glendale is not that. Mad Rose Pub, go and visit them. If you're watching soccer, you're watching games, you're in the area, even if you're not in the area. It's worth the trip.
Starting point is 00:23:55 Great food, great atmosphere, great people. 15 Royal Vista Place. And again, Monday, December 5th. So we will have, I guess, probably, We'll figure it out. We'll have some tickets for one of you coming up to go and see the Yotis, as you call them. I have the 12 players that have worn number seven for the Florida Panthers. The Rettster from 97 to 99 was the third.
Starting point is 00:24:17 Brian Benning, Mike Cassiman, the year before you, Mike Wilson, Matt Her, Pavel Trinka, Alexander Carpicev, Monty. Wow. Your boy, 06-08. Noah Welch, Demetri Kulikov, Colton Severe, and the ball of muck himself, Radko Gutus. It's a lot of... A lot of who that.
Starting point is 00:24:40 A lot of dumb there, actually. What did Pavel Trinca ever do to you? Let's pivot here. On the show near the end yesterday, I think we tease this a little bit, and today is the day we're finally going to kick off. You're going to try and give back. You know, we're very selfish.
Starting point is 00:25:01 We're very self-absorbed. It's all about us a lot of times. We figured it's Christmas. Why don't we try and do something nice for other people? Just for a change of pace. Don't want to take credit because it all started with the folks. Nicky and Surge and everybody over at Tower, but we decided that sounds like a great idea to us. We kicked, today kicking off our charity, our Christmas charity campaign, the top shelf elf Christmas, with proceeds going to closer to home and the adopt a family campaign. Look at that.
Starting point is 00:25:28 Look at Rett sitting on the old crossbar there. That's you, right? Oh, boy, right? You're the top shelf, Al, giving back. It's for the kids. I think the graphic designer got it wrong. We said long arms.
Starting point is 00:25:38 I think the graphic designer heard long years. It's a little off. Gillian McDonald is the communications specialist with closer to home. And people have been asking that we, because we put together some auction items and we're going to invite people to donate and do this coming up here
Starting point is 00:25:56 for the next couple of weeks. Rather than me try and tell you about it, We figured let's get someone on who actually knows what they're doing. And that, of course, is Jillian McDonald. Jillian, good morning. How are you? Good. How are you?
Starting point is 00:26:09 Thanks for having me. Well, we're, the flames won last night, so we're not happy about that because usually it's better when they lose that we can come on and complain and to this guy's awful and that that guy's awful, but they won big last night. So we have to just kind of take it. Compliments are so boring. It's easier to just bring out the sledgehammer, isn't it? Yeah, really is.
Starting point is 00:26:28 So closer to home, I guess there's a couple of things. players to it. And I think I had maybe mentioned to you in an email that the folks at Tower Chrysler a year ago, Nikki was saying, we did a 50-50 dry-in house. And then at the end of the year, we took the money and we donated to the adoptive family through closer to home. And I think it was about $7,500. And they got to support in the neighborhood, 12, 14 families of four. It's like, that's what we want to do. We want to try and make a bit of a difference if we can for what this is that we do here. But the thing is, the people that, tend to follow and listen to us are very good people. Not so much us, but they are great people.
Starting point is 00:27:06 So tell us a little bit about closer to home because it's more encompassing than just the adoptive family. So let's start there and then maybe we can talk about what the adoptive family program is all about. Yeah, absolutely. So closer to home has been around since 1995. So we have a long history in the community. And yeah, we do provide lots of programming across the city. we have a North Central Family Resource Network, which is up in the Beddington area. And they provide parenting skills, youth mental health, courses like that for parents. And then we also have group care, foster care, an intensive youth mental health facility. And then we have indigenous services as well.
Starting point is 00:27:49 So we kind of span the whole gamut of services in Calgary, which we're really proud of. But yeah, we have lots of programs and services for parents and youth across the city, not just in the north central area, but everywhere in Calgary. So, yeah, we do a lot of things. And we, you know, we really try to help parents, youth, and families break feels of trauma and poverty and make sure that they can be resilient and have a really successful future. So closer to home.com is the website. So obviously it would be an invite to not just people who are looking to help,
Starting point is 00:28:24 help out, but maybe some people that could use assistance. And we talked briefly yesterday about the press release that you had sent on that the need right now, and we can get into the adoptive family, is greater than it's been. The demand is way up. And right now, maybe the support is not where it needs to be. Can you kind of help us wrap our heads around where we're at right now? Yeah, absolutely. And thanks so much for the intro yesterday and spreading a little bit of awareness about adoptive family. So last year, we served 570 families, which was a 40% increase from the year before. And so this year, we're seeing another 40% increase. So if you do the 640 families that are currently registered on our list, plus the waitlisted families, that takes us to the 40%
Starting point is 00:29:14 increase, which is really crazy. You know, there's lots of people who are struggling with the inflation and post-pandemic stress and job loss. There's lots of different variables. And yeah, we are seeing that there's only 230 families currently matched with donors. So that means how many donors have donated to adopt a family. So we're kind of sitting at the 413 mark who are unmatched, which we're really hoping to make sure those families have something for Christmas to put under their tree, whether they celebrate Christmas or not, or maybe it's food on the table.
Starting point is 00:29:50 or something like socks or diapers, something I take for granted, going to the superstore or Walmart, where the gift cards are for. So as far as, because I was asked about it yesterday, and I didn't really know, I said I'm going to talk to Jillian tomorrow. Is this southern Alberta? Is this Calgary-based? Where are the families predominantly that are being assisted with this? Right.
Starting point is 00:30:16 That's such a good question. So with our North Central Family Resource Network, that's, who we predominantly serve, and that's who kind of would be registered first on our adoptive family list. Of course, if there is a higher need, we can't accept more. Currently, our registrations are closed just because we've reached a little bit of a capacity right now, but we really hope to serve as many families as we can, and if we can, that wait list as well, those 150 families, because we just really want to make sure that everyone has an opportunity to have a really joyful holiday season. I think we've all kind of heard about, I had friends of ours, instead of gifts this year for ourselves,
Starting point is 00:30:56 we've got so much we just wanted to adopt a family. I think we've heard about adopt a family. So this will be our first time kind of getting involved. On a literal level, we're going to try and raise some money here. The money goes to you guys. Then what happens? What does the whole step-by-step process look like? Absolutely. So once someone adopts a family, we go in and we match the donor with a family. That family then can fill out a thank you card and each person in that family unit, whether it's a family of two, a family of five, each person gets $125. And that's all tabulated onto a gift card. So we found that, so I guess I can give you a bit of background. Previously, we did gifts for families. But through the, the pandemic, we kind of had to do a little bit of a shift, and we switched to gift cards. And we heard from families that this was such a great shift because that gives them the power to go and choose what they want. So each person in the family gets $125 to go shopping at Walmart or super store to find what they need, whether it's gifts, like I said, or diapers or socks or
Starting point is 00:32:07 whatever that looks like for their family at that time. And that gives you, I'm guessing that would give those families a little bit of ownership of Christmas? Because the donations, I'm going to put December 15th, is that kind of a deadline? Because then the gift cards can be acquired and assembled, and then those families can then use them. It gives them a bit of some ownership, which is also, it's almost giving is the best part of the whole thing, right? Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:32:34 So, yeah, our deadline to donate is December 15th. However, we will still accept donations past that. to 17th date, but we set that so that families can go out before Christmas or whatever they choose to celebrate and pick what they want. And it definitely does give them ownership of their Christmas or their holiday or, you know, whatever they choose to celebrate. And that's what we heard from families. They're super thankful for the gift cards and the ability to choose. It's really the freedom to choose and it really is empowering for the parents or caregivers who are able to shop with their family or maybe it's a surprise too. Yeah. Anything else from the fellows? We wanted to try and
Starting point is 00:33:21 do something almost exactly like this. I have a lot of faith in, we call them our fellas, our guys. We just kind of call them our guys. They support this dumb show over the years and this new venture that we've done here. We're hopeful to get some, some numbers going here. We've got great support from already some friends that have donated, and we'll get into it after we let you go, but we've got some auction items that we're going to have online. Got a couple weeks for people to get in on that. Invite people to make donations as well. We've got some prizes that we'll be giving out randomly, and I know some of our, and we'll trot them out over the next couple of days. Some partners have already said, I want to be a part of this on a financial standpoint, so we're going to hopefully
Starting point is 00:34:05 have a big, a big fat check coming up here in a couple weeks. So we're, we're excited about it. Everything about this feels awesome. Well, we're so grateful. Yeah, we're so grateful for the support. And, you know, any, any amount helps to support a vulnerable family in the Calgary area this Christmas. So, yeah, on behalf of Closer to Home, thank you so much for choosing to support the Adopted Family Program this year. And we're pumped to do it. And I guess, again, if it's, you don't need the auction item, you don't need to go through us. Flamesnation.com. is our website. There will be a link on the top. It's the top shelf elf Christmas and we've got a donation page and an auction page there. Can also do it on your website as well, right? Jillian, you can go to
Starting point is 00:34:47 closer to home.com and find the links there. Absolutely, closer to home.com backslash AAF. Or you can just go to our landing page. There's lots of buttons there too. Do we get it all? We got it all in there? We got it nailed it, boom. We didn't mess it up too bad. We got it straight. Jillian's a pro. She's a pro. Thank you. Yeah, well, thank you so much and thanks for having me and looking forward to it. Awesome. We'll be in touch. Thanks, Jillian, for the info and let's get this going.
Starting point is 00:35:20 We're excited. All right. Have a nice day. Thank you. You betcha. Thank you. There's Jillian McDonald. Let's get that taken care of.
Starting point is 00:35:27 Let's get it going. Those numbers. I get myself caught up in it. You think about this city and the Christmas and all of that. and I've seen some of the lists where the dad or whatever, it's $100, whatever it was, $125, get me a pair of socks. It's all I want.
Starting point is 00:35:47 What I want is for my kids to have Christmas. So that's what we're going to try and do, retro. We're going to get some families. And I know you've done this between your time in Buffalo and just over your different ways you've done it. through the alumni that you've been a part of, it's the greatest gift. It's awesome.
Starting point is 00:36:12 You're muted there, fellow. The mutester. The mutester is right. Well, I didn't want to sneeze on Jillian when she was talking about important stuff. No, I was just saying it's one of those, you know it's going to be, go to people that need it and make a difference in lives
Starting point is 00:36:30 and one of those special times a year. So, yes, get involved. There's lots of great charities out there, but this will be yeah and we're anything is better than nothing it felt like one of those things it was yeah do we have enough time how are we going to coordinate this to do it right it was just perfect coincidence with tower wasn't it and there literally here's a charity that we've adopted and the more you looked at it and we heard about it was like man this is a fit yeah like if we can not steal anyone else's thunder but join on and help this charity that's great so let's get into it
Starting point is 00:37:02 on our website flamesnation.ca. This is the fun stuff. Atop the, uh, the, whatever you call up there, the bar menu there. The menu you're going to see.
Starting point is 00:37:11 Top shelf elf Christmas under that two different drop down menus. One is for your donations. And you can go in there. There's some presets in turn of 25, 50, whatever the presets are. Or you can put in your own $5. Anything is,
Starting point is 00:37:27 like we say, anything is great. So go to that page. And there will be a, kind of a thing there that'll say, you want to tip, tip, tip, tip, tip, don't tip. I don't want to say don't tip, but don't tip.
Starting point is 00:37:40 That's for the website. I think, yeah. It's for the website that is holding it. Put your donation in there, and we'll get it called up here. We're going to have the visual of it here, I hope soon. Put in your donation, either click the preset or put in your custom,
Starting point is 00:37:57 and then there will be the drop down for the tip option. You can just put in zero, and that will keep your... You're bothered by this tip thing. I can tell. Well, it's just, come on. We're trying to... Raising money here.
Starting point is 00:38:08 Come on now. Trying to raise money. Yeah. And then there'll be credit card info moving forward from there. Do we have it? Do we know if... If we have a screenshot there. If we have the screenshot because we wanted this...
Starting point is 00:38:22 We can have that for tomorrow. If not today. That's fine. We're not sure why we wouldn't have it. So anyway, you go in there. That's how you donate. financially on your own. In addition to that,
Starting point is 00:38:36 we've had some support already. This is the fun stuff, Dean. This goes back almost immediately, as we were just kicking around ideas, and Greg Keller from Bontan says, well, I'm in, I'm getting in, we're doing something. Okay. And we'll roll out some other things,
Starting point is 00:38:55 but he is going to be supplying some gift cards. So when this is all done, if you've gone in and made a donation, we are going to be pulling out random, just random names. And some people are going to win gift cards to Bontan Meats. Doesn't get better than that this time here. We have some other prizes, potentially some flames tickets, jerseys, prizing of other kinds. And also, we had a little convoy yesterday with Braden and Brian at South Street Burger. for anyone who donates 10 or more dollars, you'll win it.
Starting point is 00:39:31 You'll get a voucher for a free burger. Awesome. To be redeemed at any South Street burger location in Calgary. So you're helping a charity and you're getting a free burger for just 10 bucks or more? This is win, win, win, win, win. There you go. I love it.
Starting point is 00:39:43 So everyone that donates for 10 or more bucks gets a voucher there. They're also going to be topping up. They've got some gift cards for people who maybe donate. They're going to top up some other prizes. South Street Burger, they want to get involved with some other things. So they're on board. And I know we've talked to, don't need to throw it out.
Starting point is 00:39:59 We're going to be rolling some stuff out here over the next few days. The contributions from our partners, awesome. So that's how you donate. And again, if you go to flamesnation.com, across the top, top shelf elf Christmas,
Starting point is 00:40:15 donation is that drop down. Yep. The other thing that we have going is the top shelf elf auction. This is the fun stuff. Throughout some lines, see what can we maybe get that's a little bit bigger. We can get some people involved to some auction items. Well, we started here.
Starting point is 00:40:35 I'll be honest. Start small. Start small. Baby steps. It's the Barn Burner experience. And if you get involved with the Barnburner experience. To win the auction, Dean, what are you getting? Well, I'm wondering maybe this should be one for Rhett because you get to visit the Barnburner Studios.
Starting point is 00:40:50 Oh, wouldn't that be neat, Rhett? Wouldn't you love that? Is there room in there? An empty chairs? Yeah, we got lots of room, buddy. We got studio audience. We got couches. We got chairs, tables.
Starting point is 00:41:02 We got all kinds of things. The barn burner experience is one of the auctions up for bid. We are going to open up the barn doors for the winner and a guest. You visit the studios. Meet Pinder and Boomer and watch us do one of these shows live. Live show viewing. Sit in here and watch it. Crack a pop and watch us do this dumb thing.
Starting point is 00:41:22 might have a coffee for you. We'll give you some Flames Nation gear. And then we're going to take the two of them out for dinner, yourself, myself, and we'll bring a celebrity guest. Yeah. So we're going to go out and have a nice meal somewhere. Rett's true. Do you have any celebrity pals we can invite?
Starting point is 00:41:41 Not, they used to be celebrities. They don't, not anymore. They used to be friends. They're not friends anymore. Yeah. So that's the barn burner. Different area code. He can't handle it.
Starting point is 00:41:50 There you go. Do we have visuals of this? This is where all of this is supposed to be coming in, right? We said this is anyway. The second experience. Yeah, you can't just send an email. The second experience is the cavalry experience. This is a fun one.
Starting point is 00:42:08 Our buddy Mason Trafford, who's played for the club and played for Canada internationally and is now doing a bunch of stuff on their business side. Heard about what we were doing. He's like, well, we want in. We want to throw something together as well. The Cavalry FC experience. one-of-a-kind VIP experience. You went digging on this.
Starting point is 00:42:29 Access to a Cavalry FC team training session. Yeah, so it would be the equivalent of a practice. But don't think of it this time of year when it's minus 20. Think about when it's 25 degrees on a beautiful day at Atko Field. The pitch is perfect. And you watch them training, do a little lunch, meet the players after. And then perhaps the day after the next game on the schedule, you're off with some gear and tickets to the game.
Starting point is 00:42:51 So for your footy fans in town, this is a big one. Access to the training session, post session lunch and meet and greet. We'll get some gear for you. And then, as you mentioned, tickets to an upcoming Calvary FC game. Very nice. Love it. Like that one a lot.
Starting point is 00:43:09 The third one that came in most recently is courtesy of the Calgary Stampeders. It's your stampeter experience. This is a good one, too. So you've got to wrap your head around this one. Four tickets to the whole. home opener next summer. Boom. Four retro jerseys. Boom. Not Warner. Retro language. Not the Redster. Yeah, not the rest. I hope it's the candy cane ones. I love those jerseys.
Starting point is 00:43:32 It's a great. So four retro jerseys, four tickets to the home opener. A parking pass. You got tailgate. You got a tailgate. You got a tailgate. Season opener. You're not going to tailgate? Snuggle up to where you're going to park? Greg, let's go. So there you go. You get a parking pass for your tailgate. Four pregame sideline passes. You get right down on the grass. Get right down there. It is very cool. You see the, you know, football players are big and you know what that's all about.
Starting point is 00:43:58 But to feel the energy in the stadium, down at that level, you just don't get there. And the players are doing their thing. It's awesome. So four of those sideline passes and $100 in food and beverage vouchers. Unreal. So there you go. So you're going to tailgate. You've got tickets.
Starting point is 00:44:15 You're going to go down to the sidelines and see how massive these humans are that play football. And then, hey, food and bevel you watch the season opener on a beautiful, I imagine July day. There you go. Perfect. Reached out to our buddy John Winwick at ATB Financial and said, hey, this is what we're doing,
Starting point is 00:44:31 just kind of throwing it out there, whatever, you know, if you can. He said, well, let me take a look. This is the team builder experience. On the 10th of March, the flames are playing the Anaheim Ducks. Okay. 25 press level C.
Starting point is 00:44:49 Excuse me, 25. 25. I love it. You've almost got a section. Quack. Quack. Yeah, no, no. Oh, no, no.
Starting point is 00:44:59 I guess you could do it already on. 25 press level seats and a food and pop voucher for each attendee. Wow. So 25. That doesn't suck. Not at all. We just took care of your business part, your staff party for you. How good is that?
Starting point is 00:45:16 Incredible. So that, that's up for bid. and that is presented and provided exclusively by ATB Financial. We got one up right now. You should talk about this one's unreal. Yeah, more from ATB in a moment. Reached out to Cody and Rhonda Snyder, one of our favorite events of the year.
Starting point is 00:45:32 It's unlike anything else you do. And if you've never done it, then get ready. It's the Cody Snyder bull bustin experience. This event is sold out. It went from two nights to three nights to four nights. Yeah. There are, he wouldn't want, sponsor load is sold out.
Starting point is 00:45:51 So many people want to be a part of this in terms of attending and supporting it. It's already sold out for 2023. This is a huge thing. And we're talking to Cody, the pizza pig out a month ago. This is next summer. This is his full time. He's taken care of this. It's a huge event.
Starting point is 00:46:06 And honestly, if you haven't been, you can go to the stampede, which is great, but you're not going to get as close or intimate with bowls as you are with this thing. This is the absolute best to see how nuts it is. him and riding a bull. And it's, it's a testament to how good a job they do that it's sold out like this. It used to be over on, on McLeod Trail. Now it's been, it's been at Grey Eagle Casino for, I'm going to say, you know, this track of time, three years. Anyway, this is the experience. Keeping in mind, it is sold out, an unforgettable night for four hosted by Boomer and Pinder. That means we're going. This is unreal. That's pretty good. Notice how I've suckered that got ourselves
Starting point is 00:46:42 and so. Thank you, Dean. So that's two plus you two? Four. Four. Four. And if you want to show up, maybe it'll be three plus us three. So here's how it is. You, if you have the winning bid, four VIP tickets, VIP parking, access to the exclusive pre-event VIP reception. Love it.
Starting point is 00:47:02 This thing. I mean, it shakes. This hums, yeah. I went, because I was there this year, went in. So you want to go have a drink. It was absolutely rock it in there. Then you go outside, some food and drink vouchers, preferred seating. you're going to meet world champion Cody Snyder.
Starting point is 00:47:19 You're going to get up close and personal with the Bulls. That's the other thing. You want to see a seven foot string of snot land in front of you? It's like, yeah, I can probably ride one of those. Then go by the pens before the event and take a look at the size of these things. It's a, you've got to be, let's we say, built different. You've got to be wired just a little bit differently. Then, so you're going to meet Cody, see the Bulls, preferred seating, VIP tickets,
Starting point is 00:47:46 parking, the VIP reception before, and then they have a live concert after every event. Man. It's four days. This is the night of, it's the Thursday event, I believe, is, is the night. We'll, we'll confirm that, but I think it's the Thursday. Sold out, and even if it wasn't sold out, you can't get this. This is not available to buy. This is a one-of-a-kind thing.
Starting point is 00:48:11 It's sold up for a reason every year, Dean. And I felt, I felt cheapish going. going to Cody and Rhonda, I said, you know, we're doing a thing. We don't have a lot of details. No, we want to be a part of it for sure. I know you're sold out. Because the other, we'll help you pump up and we'll talk about your event. They're sold out. They don't need our help. What little help we might be able to give them, they don't need. And Rhonda came back with this. She said, do you think that's okay? Do you think that's, yeah, that's amazing is what that is. So that is one that's going to hopefully bring some big dough.
Starting point is 00:48:45 And then the final one as of right now, because there will be more. It is the top shelf experience. Top shelf elf, top shelf rat. This is his whole thing. Wednesday, April 12th, Calgary, the flames are taking on the San Jose Sharks. I believe this is the final regular season game. I'm going to say that. Feels like the very end mid-April.
Starting point is 00:49:06 Yeah. The top shelf experience, John Winwick from ATB Financial will be there. boomer, pender, and a member of the Flames alumni. Sweet. So we're going to get together. This is, what we're going to do here with this one is we're going to take the top three bidders because we want to kind of spread it out because it is a very unique experience. A personal matri-dee and service staff for your group's reserved table before the game.
Starting point is 00:49:34 Fancy pants. Fancy. Pre-game cocktails. Seated pre-teensed, pre-game cocktails. pre-game gourmet buffet dinner. It is a good buffet. While you're having your dinner and your drinks, a personal welcome from a member of the Calgary Flames management
Starting point is 00:49:52 or a celebrity of some sort will come in. Lonnie's going to thank you for being there. That's what it's going to be. Shake my mustache. Thank you for being here. So you're having dinner, some drinks. It's nice. You're getting ready for the game.
Starting point is 00:50:02 Someone comes in, has a little kind of a little experience there, a little talk, Q&A kind of session. Then you go out and see the game. These seats are dynamite. Are they ever? These are dynamite seats. After the game, back to the room, some cocktails, some wine.
Starting point is 00:50:18 Talk about what a big win it was over the San Jose Sharks, how they have home ice throughout the entire Western Conference play. Well, the whole way through, because it's a present trophy. Shame about Carlson's growing. You could hear it rip. Yeah, it's really too bad. And an exclusive top shelf collectible gift for each guest. No messing around.
Starting point is 00:50:35 We've dabbled in some of these type experiences with ATB in the preseason, and it's out of this world. I can't even imagine what it'll be like in mid-April. So we will have three winners. We wanted to kind of spread this one around rather than have one winning six tickets. It's all about trying to get the most money we can for closer to home and adopt a family.
Starting point is 00:50:52 So the top three bidders each will get two tickets. That'll be a fun night. And join us around the table. We'll meet, we'll greet, we'll have a great time. And raise some money for the adoptive family campaign. Unreal. Rhett? Where's your power ring?
Starting point is 00:51:09 I feel like there's a lot of amazing to pick from there. That bull bust in one because you're outside. It's nice. It'd be good. Well, see that, the cavalry and the stamps, all that is tough to imagine right now when it's minus 20 or whatever. Like, that's the best time of year for weather. Those are going to be unreal.
Starting point is 00:51:31 So go to flamesnation. On the top menu, the bar there. You're going to have the two drop downs. I'm on the auction one right now. The auctions are open and they will run for two weeks so we can get everything done and get the money and that into the hands that need it in time for the 15th, 16th, right around that deadline. And I think we should check in every couple days and look at each package and see where things are at, remind people how unreal these experiences are. Like to your point on the bull busting one, like most of these, you can't just go and buy this. You can't do this.
Starting point is 00:52:00 These are one of a kind type experiences. Right now, and again, this has been open for a few hours. the top bid bidded performance is the Barnburner experience. Excuse me. I'm going to say anything bad. Thank you so much for your back.
Starting point is 00:52:18 Where are we going for dinner? Is this something we don't know here? All right. Place your bids. It's all for a great cause. I know that we have designs on maybe another one or two auctions coming up here in the next few days,
Starting point is 00:52:31 but we didn't want to wait any longer because of the sensitive nature of getting that in. So thanks to Jillian. and in advance, thanks to everybody who will either donate on the donation page, place a bid here. There's going to be prizes randomly, and we're trying to get as many prizes as we can for anyone that donates. Because that's, the bid is great, and you're getting some great stuff. The donation, that's just the donation.
Starting point is 00:52:56 So we're looking to really try and get as many gifts and prizes there for people. Want me to get some, some, want me to get some Benny the butcher stuff? You got some, maybe some vinyl, original, Press, a limited edition vinyl, Benny the butcher? My boy. Buffalo package. What else would you put in a Buffalo package? What else could you get in there?
Starting point is 00:53:15 I told you guys a trip to Buffalo Flames play on a Friday night in February. Next day, the bills win the Super Bowl. I'll go out drinking with you, streaking the town. You'll be part of the parade. It'll be wicked. I can't see anything going wrong with that plan. You know what we'll have to bulletproof is we'll say, okay, we're going to go to Buffalo because the flames playing then the next day is the Super Bowl.
Starting point is 00:53:37 and the bills will be in the Super Bowl. So we'll go to Buffalo, and the bills will be in the Super Bowl, and then you'll be in Phoenix. That's what will happen. Oh, and cheap flight. I'm not going to go to Phoenix? If you get organized and give me some time
Starting point is 00:53:53 because you know I like schedules and I'm very good at commitments. Yeah, you really are. Let's make it happen. I'll be back once a month. I just got to schedule things. I'll be there. American Thanksgiving's not really good for me.
Starting point is 00:54:04 Oh, y'all come back. Just set the meetings for when I'm back in Calgary. I'll come back like once a week. I can't leave the country for a while. Yeah, I'm not really coming back ever again. That's exactly what would happen. We would organize,
Starting point is 00:54:15 and again, sorry, I don't control the border. By all means, organize this trip to Buffalo. I think you, I'd love it if you, if you could,
Starting point is 00:54:25 that'd be great. I'm the idea guy. I don't do, no, no, I don't do the organizing. I got the ideas. You guys run with them.
Starting point is 00:54:32 That's not, we all have that idea. To go to Buffalo. That's, we don't need you for that. idea. Thanks. We got it. You guys, come on. Now we can meet the metal here. This will be great. We're going to go and see Red.
Starting point is 00:54:45 I will organize the pub. See, and the way in the Sabers tickets and the pub. And we got to get Stinger subs. Oh, for sure. You got to go to Razor's doghouse if it isn't condemned already. It's closed, right? Is it closed? Just bring it. That thing's rolling in money. Just really? Yeah, yeah. No, is that season? I think it's just the summer. It's a front for something, but it's making money.
Starting point is 00:55:11 Although the way it's going, I think if we did plan that trip, I think you would be in Buffalo because I'm not sure Josh Allen's getting that team to the Super Bowl. Come on. I don't think it's Alan. That's the problem. There's too many injuries. Confidence I was maybe a month ago or six weeks ago. Once his elbow's back in a hundred, he's fine.
Starting point is 00:55:31 Just shut him down at this point, right? Who's the backup? He's going to kick the, he is going to kick the, piss out of New England tomorrow. They are the Thursday night. That's a decent game. I like that. Shit pump them.
Starting point is 00:55:43 They're going to shit pump them. Pardon my language. It's not sheepish about swearing when it's his bills. Yeah, it's different. In New England. Apparently, Rod Kugudas was swearing in the arena last year. What was this? I saw this on Twitter that the Sportsnet audio where they cut some sensational
Starting point is 00:56:00 cuss words or something like that. I'm in the building. I'm like, what did we miss? What happened? So people were all caps thanking the sportsnet crew for their audio. Meathead. Which means it's good. See, some people love it.
Starting point is 00:56:13 Some people hate it. I'm a sensitive soul. I don't think we need to swear. Are you a sensitive soul? Are you, like, worried about offending your sensitive soul, friends, relatives, and family? I don't feel like you were muting curse words in the locker room. Kids. Kids don't like it.
Starting point is 00:56:28 Prince, he should just do the dinger when we swear. Not the cash dinger. In fairness, what's today? Wednesday. We'll have an update on Friday about the swearing, specifically about the swearing and as it pertains. I don't like your tone. Let's pivot here.
Starting point is 00:56:48 Lots going on. Was it a busy night in the NHL last night? Was it busy? Twas. We had some interesting things happen. Ooh! Good night for that. This is out of control for sure.
Starting point is 00:56:59 What the hell is my thing? There it is. Let's do the Pinder report, courtesy of Village Honda. Come experience the new redesign 2023 Honda CRV at Village Honda. Your dealership for life in the Northwest Auto Mall
Starting point is 00:57:13 for Village Honda. It's a Pind Report. All right, gentlemen, we start with the Calgary Flames because of course we're starting with the Calgary Flames. It was the Cichuck Bowl, maybe one of the most anticipated matches
Starting point is 00:57:24 of the season. Number 19's return and look at the hot start for the flames. Who loves Blasty more than Dylan Duby? I mean, probably nobody. A few of our guys at Flames Nation. Clark Wilm. Geek out about jerseys and stuff.
Starting point is 00:57:38 But Dubes, scored again. You had the stat. I needed it again, Dino. In the black jerseys, Dylan Dubay had, what, four last year? Had four goals and six games last year. Another one make it five and seven. Love it. Love it.
Starting point is 00:57:49 Awesome. And there he is. The old fist bump line after an early goal. They just took off a great first period for the flames. Rasmus Anderson was awesome. And it was a lot of, well, the flames looking good early. Have that have been. could that have been played more poorly by the defenseman?
Starting point is 00:58:05 I'm just curious. Walk us through it. The tow drag's nice, but the other guy should be covered. Is that what you're thinking? I don't know why he's attacking the puck in that situation. He does kind of the stick. Where are you going?
Starting point is 00:58:18 You're right. Eckpad's not back. You don't play it like that. You've got to play it like a two-on-one until he's there, right? Anyway. I'm happy to see it. It was a beauty goal. Let's get some audio up and we'll listen to a couple different angles
Starting point is 00:58:31 and sounds of Matthew Kachuk's montage or tribute, if you will. He comes back to town, first TV time out, or somewhere in the first. They show the video. This is our pal Julian McKenzie from the Athletic, who is his first year covering the flames, and this is how it sounded in the dome when TV was rolling ads. This is, no, and there we go. So they're showing the highlights.
Starting point is 00:58:56 They're going to flash his name up there, and the place goes nuts out. Not a lot of booze, overwhelmingly positive. How does this guy do that they, What did this? Six good years, five good years. What did he do to deserve this? Three playoff wins.
Starting point is 00:59:25 Was it 40 goals, 100 points? So you had individual stats. It was a good year. They did well. They won the division. So, you said, I hate it there. See you later. There is that.
Starting point is 00:59:45 It's together here. Come on. How about it? No thanks. You'll be happy, Rhett. after the standing ovation and raucous cheers for him at the TV time out, the play then began after the puck was dropped and he was booed mercifully every time he touched it, mixed in with some laughter as people said,
Starting point is 01:00:03 yes, we are cheering and booing the same person, just seconds apart. It was quite something. See, I think the tribute should have been a spoof. A what? Like all of his,
Starting point is 01:00:14 a spoof, like where he screwed up video highlights of her over, screwing up and bloopers. is it, yeah. Turtling against Cassian. It's a comedic value to it. Yeah. All serious.
Starting point is 01:00:27 Oh, Hail Matthew. But you know what, though, Rhett, you would do that and it would be funny, but there would be some people,
Starting point is 01:00:33 I don't know how you could do that. Do you know what he did for our community? But that's what we have to change in the world. That's, that's what we got to change is all those complainers. Good. Give them a reason to complain. What else are they living for?
Starting point is 01:00:44 If they don't have anything to bitch about and complain, what are they here for? Are you complaining about the complainers? I'm trying to wrap my head around this. I can just see them making fun of Kachuk and Rhett coming on the next day. As a player, a member of the PA, we cannot stand for this. He's going to have bad shoulders in 10 years, a poor quality of life, alt for these fans, and how dare they?
Starting point is 01:01:08 Can't believe they did him dirty like that. Classless. You know who is going to get a rousing response when he finally returns as a member of a different team is Sergey Bobrovsky in Florida. He's a special player, Dean. Fan favorite last night. Holy moly. I love him in Calgary.
Starting point is 01:01:25 Watch this piece of hot garbage that somehow gets in the net. Yeah. I think he put it in. He puts himself in. How is this going to work, Serge? Maybe he's got that inner ear thing. Vertigo. Sir, what are you doing, buddy?
Starting point is 01:01:42 Like, don't put yourself in the net. Even if you make the save, it's going to be a goal. Richie'll take it, though. 55 grand a day. It felt like a big money well spent Not good And just reminding us that Only active player with two business
Starting point is 01:01:59 Again repeating the facts It's nuts that this guy Is the highest paid healthy net miner Only prices in higher AAB He was in perfect position Then he pushed himself into his own net Yeah Good luck figuring it out
Starting point is 01:02:14 They should have paid Logan Thompson 10 million a year That's what they should have done Finally, there was a chance at the dome at the end of the night. As Matthew Kachuk was held off, the score sheet, and the flames get a win. Their second win over the Panthers this season picking up four of a possible four points. UBs better. Which last night may have been true. And I think anything beyond that's probably just for fun.
Starting point is 01:02:39 It was a lot of fun. Shirts and giggles. Having some fun. It's okay to have fun, Ryan. Yeah, it is. And speaking of which, it's okay to have fun unless you're making some fun of an athlete for being fat rat, you're not going to like this. Or you're going to love it because it's very lighthearted.
Starting point is 01:02:53 Crazy Jack Edwards from the Bruins broadcast was added again last night talking about Patrick Maroon's diet, midsection, and weight. Hmm. The feeling he's had a few more pizzas between football pregame.
Starting point is 01:03:16 Yeah, right. It's like four hours without a meal. But, hey, three cops in a low. Who can argue with his war? Yeah, he kind of buried the lead there. Yeah, he's a three-time cup winner consecutively. Calling a guy fat.
Starting point is 01:03:47 See? Fat shaming. Cancel him. We've called guys. I won't stand for it. Fat before, but Riddick looked fat, but wasn't, so that's okay. He looked fat. But if someone actually is fat, that's a, can't do that.
Starting point is 01:03:59 That's that gear. Yeah. Are you in good shape today, Rhett? How are you in good shape today, Rhett? How you feeling? Feeling thin? How's the, I had to skate yesterday. Pizza diet, terrible. The pizza diet. How's it going?
Starting point is 01:04:11 It didn't start yesterday or today. And more from the goalies or crazy file. Did you check into the nightcap last night between the Cracken and Kingsrette? This one was absolutely bonkers. I didn't. And then I don't have the TV on this morning. And I'm like, what is that? What?
Starting point is 01:04:32 So I believe 12 goals at the midpoint of the game, 14 in the first 40 minutes. This is Beer League or you, 11, like, you don't see numbers like this in the NHL since Wainer in the 80s, Gretzky Oilers, like, this is insane. The Kings tied the game five times. Five times. The King's scoring five times is a pretrial. Five game tying goals for L.
Starting point is 01:04:57 Holy shit. Look at this. The poor scorekeepers. That is a lot. You have the most points. I'll pull it up. You know who, uh, the stats that are a little. easier to wrap your head around than that mumbo-jumbo.
Starting point is 01:05:10 Let's look at the goalie numbers here, Rhett. You tell me how these are looking for you. You have the saves on shots. Three goalies played. Could have used all four, probably in hindsight. But there you go. Yeah. Marty Jones, eight on 35.
Starting point is 01:05:27 John Quick, probably going to the Hall of Fame. Five on 14. That's right. Cal Peterson, four on 16. Ooh. Here it is. Yeah. Absolutely insane.
Starting point is 01:05:38 And by the way, your leading point in her last night. night for the Crackin. Three points for Alex Wendberg. Four assists for Eberley. Three assists for Schultz. Those would be your leaders on that side for the LA Kings. It was four assists for Kevin Fiala, three for Doughty. Oh my God.
Starting point is 01:05:55 Pick them up, the whole team. It feels like that's low. Feels like somebody could have easily had a six or seven point night there. Yeah, where's Sam Gagne in the, what do you have a seven point or something? It's a way to pick. Okay. Okay, so one of my favorite gifts of all time is the Bruce Boudreau on the bench, Dang. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:06:13 We got a new one last night, courtesy our boy, Demetri Filipovic. Is this? Is this the original? It's one of my favorites. Absolutely great. So the caption is dang. Have a little watch of Gabby here. Again, if you're not.
Starting point is 01:06:26 Darn, yeah, darn. If you're not watching, he clearly lets out an F bomb. A huge F bomb snaps his head. He's furious. And then the subtitle. The caption. Darn. Darn.
Starting point is 01:06:35 Yeah. So last night we got a new darn. slash dang. Let's have a little look to see as the penguin's head coach is not impressed. Sully? Sully?
Starting point is 01:06:45 Sully. Sully? Mike? Mikey? Mikey boy. Monster zinc? Sully? So there's a hit in Overton.
Starting point is 01:06:56 Are you kidding me? Have another view of it. Yeah. He's spitting mad. Some people are really good at lip reading. Almost lost his gum. Yeah, he almost lost come there.
Starting point is 01:07:11 He's looking sharp, though. Where were they just in Florida? He's got a tan one on there. Yeah, he's good. Gary was in Arizona yesterday as they got some good news. The city of Tempe voted 7-0 in favor of, well, let's let this ring proposal go through to another vote later, which is going to happen in the spring, I believe. Either way, a good sign that it's alive at this point, if you want the Yotes in the desert
Starting point is 01:07:36 and not the Houston arrows or something like that down the road. A couple items there. League willing to sign a 30-year non-movement clause type thingy, which would make sense if you get a brand new shiny rink in the right part of Arizona, I'd think. It shouldn't be a problem. I don't think filling it. It's not Glendale.
Starting point is 01:07:55 Do you trust Betman, though? With this market. 30 years, we won't move it. I trust him to, if there's one team that was never going to move, it's this one in the desert. They've had a thousand reasons to do it. They haven't yet. If you get a new rank, of course he's not moving it.
Starting point is 01:08:08 Any other team, look out. That's the one thing. There's no disputing. His love for this market. He wants it there. Because he wants it there. My favorite meme is the peyote, coyote, the old logo there. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:08:21 It's like, please let me die. And Gary's like, I love you. No, not going to happen. It can't let him die. And then he had a little interaction with a protester that we saw in Daily Faceoff earlier. Someone's heckling a little. So let's listen to Gary. How do you diffuse this?
Starting point is 01:08:36 scare, you big hot shot lawyer. That's pretty good. He's getting heckled. And rather than have a discussion right on the back of the first of the rest. Please. I'd be happy to talk to you. Thank you. That's pretty good. He's getting heckled. And rather than have his henchman drag this guy off and put him in a headlock, he says, I'd be happy to talk with you one-on-one. Give me a few moments with the media. And then he probably didn't talk to the guy. That's how you diffuse it. How do you argue with that? Pretty good. I'm impressed with Gary. He wouldn't talk to me a couple years ago when I baked him about that puck going in.
Starting point is 01:09:15 But I wanted nothing to do with that. Was that around the time he was in town saying the flames aren't looking for a new rink? Trying to remember when his last visit was. No, he's in Buffalo. They're not looking for any rink. It's over. He was in Buffalo, hey?
Starting point is 01:09:29 You know who wasn't in Buffalo last night that's lying to us and holding out? Somehow got back into his dining room today. The Rettster. we have visual evidence of the Rettster at the game last night. Look at this. Hiding in the rafters like sting. See, I didn't know you were.
Starting point is 01:09:46 You jerk, you didn't even tell us you're back in town. That you wore your own uni to the games. That's for the Stefan Yel who did that. You got it. That's Reginald Corbett. Oh, Reni Corby. I always confused those two.
Starting point is 01:09:56 That's a foul, right? That's a flag. That's a fine. Oh, that's right. I don't think Reggie does. I think when you're doing an alumni event, I get it. But, like, if you're, you were just casually going wearing your own jersey i think sarahs was talking about this
Starting point is 01:10:09 even at the playoffs he's like i felt weird i don't know if i should wear my own jersey i'm probably don't no you shouldn't you shouldn't at all it's like i'm going to the game's playoffs i got to wear jersey it's the only one i have says serritch on the back what do i do it's like well you could wear it to your event but then you take it off yeah get off your wallet sarah cheap as well and speaking to get off your wallet right you can get better seats in that or you just you don't want to be seen what's the story here i'm a man of the people i'm not fancy. Look at how I live. You guys, fat cats and
Starting point is 01:10:39 your fancy studio apartments and all that free vehicles. It's brutal. Wolverine and I were up in the three hands mixing it up. Good people up there. The real fans, Dean's real ones. The real ones. Like retro there. Yeah. Do you see him there? I saw a few
Starting point is 01:10:55 of him, but maybe I see him double. I don't know. It's weird. There's some post game shenanigans. We'll get you filled in. Was it a wash? Was it a wash? Warner jersey? It was not a wash in Warner's, but there weren't fours
Starting point is 01:11:12 from the roof to the floors. It was smattering, maybe, not a wash. A wash. Great one. That's your Pender Report, fellas. Stupid soccer rules blew up my bracket. There's some bad news out there, eh?
Starting point is 01:11:30 Village Honda, proudly serving Calgary in area for over 30 years, your one-stop automotive destination in Calgary, visit them today in the North West. auto mall or online at village honda.com. Don't let Rhett read the news. I don't.
Starting point is 01:11:43 I'm afraid of where he's reading it and what it says, and it's just easier to not know. Is Anthony the Dutch, it's the Americans next? Dutch are through. The Dutch win group A, which had the hosts who suck, Qatar, would have been nice to be in that group, eh?
Starting point is 01:11:58 And they will play USA in the first knockout match that the Dutch have. So I think we can all get behind the Americans losing on a stage like this to the plucky Dutch team that hasn't lost. Two years, let's go. Then who are the Dutch?
Starting point is 01:12:10 Now, we've done a nice show today, right? We're trying to raise money for families and stuff like that. Are you going to bog us down with some negative? Yeah, bad news right now. Is that what this is? It's real news. It's not me. You can look it up and I don't know if you want to talk about it because it is.
Starting point is 01:12:25 I don't, no, I'm thinking that we don't, why would you bring it up? I thought we're kind of a sportsy talk show kind of thing, and it's kind of a sporty topic. The hell's happening? Tom Brady gets married? Go ahead. Giselle off the market? What are we talking?
Starting point is 01:12:45 La Tang. Hurt? Chris LaTang is injured. You didn't? I saw he was not escaped this morning. What? Oh dear. I saw the Latang stuff.
Starting point is 01:12:57 That's no good. No. So in fairness, it was a while ago, so I guess they probably wanted to make sure that they knew what it was. Remember how scary that was when T.J. Brody calls. Then, by all means, give us the details there, retro. I don't have any details.
Starting point is 01:13:12 Okay, good. On the YouTube said something happened. So you're taking the YouTube chat as gospel? No, I looked at one of the websites, Penguins Chris Lutang, suffer stroke. He's optimistic. He'll be back soon. It's scary. I think you should worry about getting better and that's about it.
Starting point is 01:13:36 It's a downer down the show there, right? Experience is not experiencing any lasting effects. This is from the penguin's, Twitter account. Chris LaTang is out indefinitely after suffering a stroke on Monday, not experiencing any lasting effects of the stroke, and will continue to undergo a series of tests over the next week. Real life, man. Real life is not a lot of fun sometimes. So anyway, good, God, God, love you. Chris Lentang, get better, but we got a chance to see him twice in the last month and a half, Flames fans. we're going to do our betway bets and we got to do
Starting point is 01:14:16 but before we do that I want to say because tomorrow's Thursday we're going to do Ask Ret. Get your questions in. Hashtag Ask Ret, the email address. Askrette at flamesnation.ca. Hoopster.com. Give me something. Get me something good too. Get me something to dig my teeth into some trivia.
Starting point is 01:14:36 Dig your teeth into it. Ask Red at Flames Nation.com. of Hope Street. Sink your dales into something. That's right, yeah, sink it. Betway bets, and then we'll get out of here and make way for the boys up north. Betway bets, betway bets, betwe bets.
Starting point is 01:14:54 Let's see it. Who's up first? I'm doing a couple parlayes. You don't, you shouldn't parlay, but I'm going to do a couple parlays. Well, how did you do yesterday? Not good. Two point Huberto.
Starting point is 01:15:07 I thought you had, well, I had talked about Dube that's, you always weren't. But I had the Kachuk. I had a Kachuk power play point and a Kachuk goal, and neither happened. So I was 0 for two yesterday. I thought the Kachuk thing was going to go. But here's my, here's what I got today. The Oilers are at the Blackhawks.
Starting point is 01:15:24 The sharks are at the Maple Leafs. Sharks played last night. They're now in Toronto. Leifs are playing quite well. The Blackhawks are one of the bottom teams in the conference. Doesn't even need to be just any time. Money line win for the Oilers and Leafs. Good, yeah.
Starting point is 01:15:37 Plus 100. Even money? Sure. It's not bad, right? Yeah. Then I'm going back to the Oilers. Give me the Oilers money line and total goals. Over.
Starting point is 01:15:47 Over five and a half. It's probably a Campbell start. They got the Loly Hawks. That reeks like an over. It could be. So Oilers Money Line win over five and a half goals plus 155. Like those two. Thanks.
Starting point is 01:15:59 We were fortunate yesterday on the Hubert O two points. That was plus 200. We cash that today. We're focusing in on a different game. No flames in action. We're going to look at the wings and the sabers. Two teams on the run. Rise the Atlantic.
Starting point is 01:16:12 Philip Peronix said one of the sneaky quietest awesome years on the blue line. 18 points already for the blue liner. He's been a monster. Three of his last four games, he's gone two points. Oh, and he's one assist for plus 125. We're going to take it
Starting point is 01:16:25 and we're going to ride the Tage Thompson train. Retro. He's been unbelievable. He's had over a half dozen shots a bunch this year. Just over three and a half. Yeah, it's only minus 143, but we'll take the money. There's your bet.
Starting point is 01:16:37 There you go. Askrette. Ask Rhett tomorrow. We'll get into some, it's going to be a big Flames game day. Habs, man. Habs. I can't keep track of these days.
Starting point is 01:16:48 You can't get that, that trip, that Super Bowl trip to Buffalo. Yeah, oh, it's going to happen for sure. Since we had the idea now, we can do it. All we needed was the idea to go to Buffalo. It's never been mentioned, so now we'll get working on it for you there. First we've thought of it ever. So that's on the program tour, Ask Red, Flames Game Day.
Starting point is 01:17:05 And I have a feeling. More news for, our top shelf elf auction page. Also, a little post game followed from last night. We'll get to. Oh, is that right? There was a huge controversy, and one of the rims was not legal.
Starting point is 01:17:22 Counting the three-pointers, two-points, it's not fair. The standardized hoops, rims, nets, don't like it at all. It's done's fun. It's coming up tomorrow. Tomorrow, William. There you go. That'll do it for today.
Starting point is 01:17:35 Thanks for being a part of it. That's a Wolverine going to get sick of you. Pretty quick here. Yeah. He's reaching his squad. That's it for today. Thanks for being a part of it. See you.
Starting point is 01:17:45 Boilers Nation every night. That's coming up next day. See you, buddies.
