Starting point is 00:00:09 Here we go on a game day for the Calgary Flames. It is a snowy Tuesday. Tis. Here in Calgary. There's the Rets there. There's Ryan and I am me. And ordinarily on a game day, we'll, you know, like to spend the thing. Get your helmet on.
Starting point is 00:00:28 Might not be enough today. What? Get some shins, a flackjacket, some eye protection, in addition to the helmet. You might need it. So maybe instead of the helmet, you could get one of those, like, welding masks or something the bomb squad would wear? Just really up the protection level. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:00:48 Because you might need it against tonight's foe. As the Boston Bruins come in, ordinary, you wouldn't have seen these. Remember, you'd see game notes. Probably a lot of the times they get dropped off in the locker room retro. But here's the lineups and here's kind of so the articles that have been written and here's all this. In the game notes today for this one, Boston, it just says, we're really fun. fucking good. Just take our word for it.
Starting point is 00:01:12 Calgary is not won three games in a row since early December. Also has a lost three games in a row since early November. The birds are fucking good. There's your notes of the game. We're just really fucking good. JFG. Just fucking good. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:26 30 and 3 when scoring first, 21, 2 and 2 against the West. Fastest to 80 points in league history. On pace to be the fastest to 100. On pace to be the best team in the history of an NHRA. They are. for wins, which is incredible. They have eight losses this year. Eight.
Starting point is 00:01:44 They're cheaters, though. The Detroit did it when there were no overtime three on three. No, no, that's fair. And they are, the team they're really chasing in terms of if you want fair, fair, I believe is the 1516 capitals that were right up there amongst the all-time grades. But if you want to, by all means, blow that wins totals doors right off by four or five, we won't really be worried about the overtime format.
Starting point is 00:02:08 This is an elite elite team. They're in on a back-to-back. They won in Edmonton with their backup last night. Yeah, they're first in penalty kill goals against five-on-five scoring and their third on goals four. They're good at everything. The flames differential goals for and against plus three. Oh, there you go.
Starting point is 00:02:29 Once every two months, they score one more than the other. Boston plus 96. 96. That's good. New Jersey at plus 51 is second, which is on its own. That's very good. 51, that's pretty good. Almost double that race.
Starting point is 00:02:46 Wow. Yeah. Yeah, I saw they, for every even strength goal opponent's score, they score 1.7. So almost two to one at even strength. And that's before you factor in their number one ranked penalty kill and number eight ranked power play, which still special teams are already great. And they go to Vesnik candidate in net. And then at even strength, they're going to outscore you almost two to one. one.
Starting point is 00:03:08 Yeah. They come into this game on a seven game win streak. That's tied for the season long. They've done it three times now. So they're not impressed. They have 21 wins where they've just just flop. There's another seven pack. And I don't know.
Starting point is 00:03:28 It doesn't feel like eights out of question either, does it? They haven't really wrapped this winning streak up potentially. Stupid Jack Edwards or whatever his name is on the broadcast. you played it yesterday. Yeah. There's the Vesna Bede. I haven't gotten into that. I don't think in those terms.
Starting point is 00:03:48 Oh, of course he is. Yeah. Well, uh, I'll mark 30 wins for regulation and then one extra time lost. Two shutouts, a 1.86. Oh, 1.8. Goals against a 938 save percentage and scored a fucking goal the other night. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:03 So I don't know if the goals go into it or not. Oh. Oh, the fishbow blood. Yeah. He's not Uncle Jack Edwards. Didn't the Sabres decide to give Olmark away for nothing? We liked him that year, remember? We're like, don't sleep on this guy.
Starting point is 00:04:22 And then he had a just okay last year where Swamen actually got more of the starts. I think there was some injury stuff there. And then this year, it's like, oh, yeah, remember we really like this guy on a bad Sabres team that was getting sheled every night? He ain't getting shelled anymore, and he's still great. He's better. Fuck. So the flames and must-win territory have that coming to the dome tonight. First game back after a road trip.
Starting point is 00:04:46 It's been a while at least. Another day closer to the trade deadline. Friday. All quiet on the flames front. Do you think so? You know so. Have you heard any word in or out? I think it's a fascinating two games to play ahead of the dead.
Starting point is 00:05:09 headline because if you really want a litmus test of how you rank, you just played Vegas, Colorado, Boston, Toronto. And if you lose all four, I think you put some things on the front burner that might not have really been thought about. I still think, like, and we're talking about selling. I don't want to be too cryptic here. There's nothing pressing and there's no, like, clock's going to strike midnight, you know, the carriage turns into a pumpkin sort of thing. All these assets they have. that you could get, you know, parts and picks and prospects back for, we'll still be able to be moved at the draft this summer, next year in season, could be extended if you like a guy. So I don't think there's any sort of urgency. But if someone wants to pay way too much for a guy, like if there's a deal that sets the market and it's like, oh, shoot, like that guy's worth two, well, if we can get a first for Nikita Zadora, we'd be idiotic not to, right?
Starting point is 00:06:03 Yeah, if there's a team out there that feels like maybe they're getting left behind with all of these other deals taking place. Yeah. Hey, I know you're probably not even thinking about it, but where are you on with this going to Foley? You can't not take the call. I think Carolina's a team that's yet to make a move. We've seen Boston bolster up,
Starting point is 00:06:22 the Rangers, the Islanders, the Leafs, the bolts. Those are five of the top six have made moves. The one that hasn't, it's Carolina. And what do they want? What do they need? I mean, they're really good. You could probably use a little bit anywhere. And the West, we really haven't seen much.
Starting point is 00:06:39 So there's a lot of moves left to be made, albeit maybe not some of the biggest names left. There's still Chikrin, there's still Gavakov, you know, Shen, Klemberg, Eckholm's names coming up with Edmonton all of a sudden. Those aren't big names, though, right? Those are all, like most of the defensemen. Yeah. I mean, I think those are good ads for contenders, right?
Starting point is 00:06:59 Like Josh Manson wasn't a huge name. That was a big ad for Colorado last year, given that, you know, Sam Gerard has heard the whole playoffs. Bye, Rhett. You mentioned Carolina. Now, they did add Yessa Pouill-Yarvey Tuesday morning.
Starting point is 00:07:13 Yeah, I don't know how much of an ad that is so much as an Edmonton deletion. Yeah. They have 10 million bucks in Casas in Carolina. This is the deal that happened this morning, Rhett. Yase-Pol-Yarvi to Carolina for an unsigned third rounder from 2019,
Starting point is 00:07:26 playing in Finland, having a decent year. It's a cash dump for the Oilers who are clearly trying to get something done all indications that'll be on the blue line, whether it's Chikrin, Gavrikov. Carlson seems like it's not happening. Eckholm is a new name we've heard. And if David Poyle can get anything like he got for Tanner, Geno, why wouldn't you put him to market?
Starting point is 00:07:45 Do you think the Carlson, because you hear that sort of, oh, it's probably he's not going to go this year. He said he hadn't been asked about his waving is no move. And that's something you'd like to get done if it was happening. But that's something you would throw out there as well to stoke up the old rumor melt. Maybe. I don't take much. It's at face value.
Starting point is 00:08:02 close to the deadline. I just think, like, let's say you're Mike Greer and you want to get Carlson done to Edmonton, if it's a non-starter for Eric, you'd want to know that before you really start hammering in on a deal for, okay, we've got to move a lot of cap space. Maybe it's Barry and Broberg and a first, and we've got to dump this money. Are you going that far down the trail without asking Eric if he's going to Edmonton? Do you believe? I doubt it.
Starting point is 00:08:24 I still wonder, though, if Holland's not smarter than that. Like, as good as Carlson's being, is that the piece he needs? It's also really difficult financially. And I'm with you. I think you need someone that can defend. Scoring goals has not been an issue for the Oilers' Cup for quite a while. Defending has been a major issue for quite a while. Because you guys mentioned Boston second in Goals 4 or something like that.
Starting point is 00:08:48 And well, I think it's Edmonton that's 20 goals ahead of them. Yes. Yeah, the goals against will be quite different on those two teams, but the goals for are very similar. Goals 4 is not an issue for the Oilers. I don't know why it's not a slight against Carlson. It's just to me that's not an. important piece. We joked about it. It's like, oh yeah, add Carlson. Then look what'll happen to your power play. Like, what? It'll go from 31 to 33%. Like, you're already fucking scoring one of every three.
Starting point is 00:09:14 Like, it's not really filling in need so much as adding more of what you already have or a better version of what you already have in like a Tyson-Berry type. So I mean, as we record this, there is no further deal done. But as we said before, you have to think that the oilers have something on the go here. You don't. Yes. You probably have all of these dominoes set. If we think we can get this defense deal done, then we basically give away Poole-R-V for nothing. Yeah. But we don't need to, we don't need to do that unless we have a deal done. So you would think that something's probably close for the Oilers. And honestly, when you look at two years left on Leander I Settles deal after this year, three on Connor and what, two years left on the general manager's deal?
Starting point is 00:09:55 Got to do it. Like, are you, if they don't add a D, they're fucking crazy. You have to. Have to. So clearing that money out is like, okay. that's one small hurdle on the way to doing what everyone in the hockey world thinks they should do. And, I mean, Colorado's good. Vegas is a good team. Dallas is a good team. There's good teams in the east, but you're not talking to. In the West, yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:18 Compared to the West, you've got a much easier path to the finals. I mean, in the West, you've got an easier path than out east. Pacific's wide open, right? I'm sorry. It's wide open. Yeah. Like, we don't even know if Mark Stone's coming back for the playoffs. like who is the best team in the Pacific?
Starting point is 00:10:37 You could make a case and a mediocre one for three, four teams. I don't think any of them are near as good as Colorado, but if all you have to do is beat Seattle and say Vegas without stone, like why not Edmonton to the conference final again? It's the easiest path out there of any division, right? And if you add a couple defensemen or one really good, like, yeah, that's your soft spot probably, right? they're going to score enough.
Starting point is 00:11:05 It's whether you can keep it out of your own net for the oilers. You must be very happy. Sorry, Rhett. I was going to say, Pindra will be very happy. It doesn't say points anywhere there. It's points percentage. There's not even a points call. Every year in the history of the NHL,
Starting point is 00:11:18 it's always been points percentage that sorted it out. So it's a good thing to sort. Because I'm with you. If Edmonton beats Dallas upset, probably crazy to think? No, not really. Yeah. I feel like you're and you're you're making that assumption on the team right now if they go get a defenseman or two yeah what are we talking about well I think it's similar with Toronto right like you just feel better about that group with o're Riley and then yesterday
Starting point is 00:11:45 they had Jake McCabe another you know that that helps him on the blue and on a ton and that was an area you were wondering about rat and it was like look they're gonna go get a D it's it's they've got way too much invested the next year or two before some of these deals come off the books like you they've got to make a push they have and emminton's in the same spot I said it yesterday. I mean, the East is drunk. You look at this and I'm with you. I think you can make a case for just about anybody in there. Could the Kings, the Cracken? Sure. Things happen in the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:12:12 In the East, man, the first two rounds for whatever it's going to be for the Toronto Maple Leafs, you're probably going to have to beat Tampa and Boston. I ran into Kevin Adams at the rink last night. We were sitting, he's coaches his kids hockey and he just come from the office. So we were sitting putting their skates on and he was like, can you imagine the matchups in the first round? Oh, it's going to have to deal with. It's going to be man.
Starting point is 00:12:40 So we're basically, if you look at those points percentages, we're basically guaranteed to get Devils Rangers and Leafs Lightning. That's phenomenal. Now, I want you to think about, look at all those teams in the wild card race. And Alex, you'd be in too hot on yourself. You could include Ottawa there. They beat Detroit last night.
Starting point is 00:12:55 Whoever gets into those final two wildcard spots is going to be on a heater because there's five teams that are a set. essentially right in that same neighborhood. So congratulations on winning your division, Boston and Carolina. You might have some pretty loose, hot, young up-and-coming teams coming in hot, like Buffalo, maybe it's the Islanders with a Vesna candidate in Nett, maybe it's Detroit. Florida won the frickin regular season last year.
Starting point is 00:13:21 They could be one of those teams. The East is going to be unbelievable. And I'm sick and tired of this moaning about the playoff matchups. These playoffs are too good in the first round. No, we want good. And the second round wasn't shitty either. We had Battle of Alberta. We had Battle of Florida.
Starting point is 00:13:35 I mean, like, come on now. Stop moaning. This is great. Alex, can you, sorry, I'm going to go the other. Can you go back to that other? I know it sucks for your senators, but if we could go back to that other board so we can see. And the thing is, the top three in those divisions,
Starting point is 00:13:50 they've all made significant deals. Everyone but Carolina. Everyone but Carolina. Boston, I, Hathaway and Orlov, that's a big deal. Orlov's a good defense. And I think they were the team that you could look at and say there's probably less need to add there. The Leafs out O'Reilly and a top 4D, at least they think he's a top 4D in Toronto. Tampa Bay, they paid to get Ginoe and you know what the Rangers have done and are probably going to do.
Starting point is 00:14:17 It sure seems like this Patrick Kane thing is going to happen. All we're seeing about Kane is tweets from insiders based on whether there's a suspension, who goes up or down, and when they'll have enough cap space accrued to add Kane in a deal. day. Yeah. It's at either Wednesday. Is it after 5 p.m. today? If it's a suspension, is it Thursday? If you don't want to send this guy down, you play 60, then it's Friday. Like, no one's talking about King going anywhere else. They're all talking about what day it might happen. This thing's done. And this return's going to be really underwhelming, right? In terms of what we've seen? I mean, okay, so what have we seen? We saw Meyer for a first team control because he's an RFA at the end, a second and a couple players. Like, I think you're getting a first for Kane. Plus. You would have got a lot more two years ago to your point, but I don't think they're ready to pull shoot then. I think more so it's Chicago doing right by Kane.
Starting point is 00:15:08 Yes. I think Drury and the Rangers can maybe play a little bit of hard ball. Just like Jerome here when he left. It's like if you can only trade with one team. Exactly like Jerome. It's kind of like they dictate the market. And you can say, no, we're not making the deal. Or you can take the assets.
Starting point is 00:15:25 I think it'll end up being a first and a prospect, something like that. And that's not the worst for Chicago. I mean, if you land Badard this summer and we'll have an image later, they've absolutely loaded up on draft picks. Like, this is, they're in a really good spot in terms of like reloading. Not unlike Arizona. These teams have been stockpiling picks for a couple seasons.
Starting point is 00:15:48 Just looking what the Rangers have for picks to even give up. Just keep going into the future. Who cares? Like, honestly, they got Shisterkin, Fox, Truba, Panarin, Zabinajad. like they've locked up their guys. Who cares when you're first for the next three, four years. That's sort of Tampa's philosophy, right? 2024 and 2025 already dealt.
Starting point is 00:16:09 So, yeah. But so to that end, yeah, Boston in town tonight. Boston good. Game 800 for Nazim count. It's going to add, Pindor's right. It's going to add clarity to the picture for the flames these next two games. You're either going to win and go, oh, look at us. We've got a chance.
Starting point is 00:16:29 Maybe we don't shed some of us. Or you're going to lose and go, we may. as well sell. But I still, I think if they lose both, they're not big players in this market anyway. It's, I think it's other teams phone and to ask, but I don't know that it's like, we were talking about it before the show today. And I have no problem with the idea of someone makes you a huge offer, like for one of these guys that expires next year, go get it.
Starting point is 00:16:52 But I just would love to see the team get to a spot where you know where the decision making is coming from here, whether that's, okay, we haven't announced it, but Trilliving is coming back. Trilliv's done a great job selling assets at the deadline in years they haven't been good. You think about the Glencross deal, the Chris Russell deal. There's been a few others where they shed guys at the deadline, and they've turned those into Shillington and Anderson and a few other really good players. I was like this morning, I think they got a second and a fourth from Florida for Hoodler.
Starting point is 00:17:19 Yeah. They got a second, which could have been a first for Chris Russell. They got a second and another pick for Glenn Cross. Yeah. They've done well. And then even the Sam Bennett one at the time, you're like, fuck, what are they going to get from? They got two seconds.
Starting point is 00:17:30 So it's like, okay. Well, that's not nothing. So. Geo, good return. No, that's not correct. Oh. When they've chosen to do something. Red's getting a backpack this year.
Starting point is 00:17:42 Have you noticed that? He's getting a backpack. Well, it's hard not to after a year like this. I totally. It's hard not to look at what's happened. What would? But to my point, just real quick. What would the first rounder on their list of picks right now?
Starting point is 00:17:55 If they had another first rounder, what would be way happier? Then what, though? What are you trading? that's the question. Like for Lindoom, I'm like, oh, for Gio, yes. Yeah, we all agree. If you traded Gio and you had this first rounder.
Starting point is 00:18:08 No, I know, I know. It's an asset that you have. Anyway, we're all on the same page. You'd probably like to have that first back that you shipped out to get rid of Monaghan's money too, in hindsight. But you might have it if you don't, you could have, that's just it,
Starting point is 00:18:22 if you had two of them and you got rid of Monaghan, at least you've still got one if you traded Gio. It's Florida's first, whatever. Like, we can't go down the Gio. well. That's years ago. Yeah, right. We were all on the same page. Look, I mean, it's just, we're all going to pay each other in the back. We can't go in our backpack and pull things out.
Starting point is 00:18:40 No, I think we were all very much in agreement. We were. We were in Loxstep. And Elliot was like, I don't know what you guys are talking about. Like, dude, like, who is sober here? This is an expiring asset. They can't protect him in the expansion draft. We were all in lockstep there.
Starting point is 00:18:54 Like, yes. And does it suck? Yeah, he was leaving anyway. Yeah. But back to my point. Real quick, Your Living's done very well, selling at the deadline. If they're good with him moving forward, I would have no problem with him selling at the deadline here.
Starting point is 00:19:11 He's done well at that. We are going to have Frank Sarajevoi, we believe, on the show today. He has been in touch with us at this time, as we record this and we do this. He is working the hotlines. He's got some stuff on the go. Pick up the phone. As he is an insider, so what I want to do, we're talking about trades. it will dovetail nicely into our segment for McLeod Law.
Starting point is 00:19:37 Peter Klein, look at them there on your screen. Look at him out. A boy, Peter. Peter Klein with a C. P.Kline at MacLeod-Dashlaw.com. Personal injury lawyers over at McLeod Law want to help you. You're not alone. Let these people at McLeod be on your side, on your team. You just worry about your recovery.
Starting point is 00:19:58 They worry about everything else. the personal injury lawyers navigate all the legal, the insurance, the medical claims, and fight the fight for you. A number of things, trades, you talk about trades, we'll go in reverse order. I'll take a guess anyway. These are reverse order in terms of magnitude on this date. Princey bought it up. He was in 2011.
Starting point is 00:20:23 The flames traded for Frederick Modine. That was their ad at the deadline. Freddie Mo. I remember that was Jay. Feaster. Mm. And of course, he had familiarity with Freddie Modine. They'd want a cup.
Starting point is 00:20:36 He came in from Atlanta for a seventh. Okay. He played four games for the flames, no points, had a bad back. Before he got to town, he brought it with him from Atlanta. His back. Atlanta? Yeah. Wow, Atlanta.
Starting point is 00:20:56 They gave up a seventh. Colin Blackwell was selected with that seven. No way. Colin Blackwell has played 53 games for the Blackhawks this year. Now, I mean, we're not talking to Hall of Famer. No, but it's good with Seattle last year. You're going to move to Toronto with the deadline, if I'm correct? A 2011 7th.
Starting point is 00:21:13 He just, so anyway, that one didn't so much work out. The answer. And you said this is the 2011 season. Not ideal. 41, 29, and 12. Is the lockout shortened here? No. There was a deal that, well, it got done, but it didn't get done.
Starting point is 00:21:31 Oh, 2013. The offer sheet, again with Jay, for Ryan O'Reilly. Yes. Feb 28th, 19, or 2013, a $10 million, two years, 10-mill offer sheet for the RFA who had not signed with the Colorado Avalanche. He was playing over in the K, remember? Plan in Europe. Signs the deal. It's going to be a flame.
Starting point is 00:21:55 If the flames get them, first and third round. is going to go to Colorado as the compensation. Colorado says, no, we're going to sign them. We'll take that. We're going to match that. So you can go F your hat, Jay Feaster in the flames. You jerks. And then find out shortly thereafter that had they decided not to match
Starting point is 00:22:16 and taken the first and the third, Ryan O'Reilly would have had to have gone through waivers. Reentry way. Upon reentry to the NHL after playing in Russia. So any team could have just plucked him. So the flames would have shelled out a first and a third for a player. And I'm guessing, guys probably not going to make it to them on the waiver wire. And what wasn't it?
Starting point is 00:22:37 That was the Monahan first round or that? It was a Monaghan first round. It was a low watermark for the team, which is saying something. Yeah. And it was like when Berkey was brought in after that, it was about restoring credibility with the brand. Like that was, those were dark times right there, do you know? Do you think there was a favor done by Colorado there?
Starting point is 00:22:57 I think there was going to be a fight, between the PA, the agent, and the league over what rules were or weren't in place. But, yeah, I don't know. I think it was an easy match for Colorado. They ended up trading them right away to Colorado or to Buffalo. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know if I'd be that good a guy. Because remember, you're pissed off when guys signed offer sheets.
Starting point is 00:23:21 At that time, does Pierre LaQuas have any, does he give a shit about Jay Feaster of the Calgary Flames to do them a favor? I don't know. it's a tight-knit group though i mean these their paths crossed a lot and i'm not saying there was i'm just saying it's easy to say f that guy i'll do it this is not brian burke and kevin low talking about fighting in the barn i i would think that there's some respect or anyway i don't know what happened but i wouldn't be surprised if there was a little bit of if it if it if people knew i wouldn't be surprised if le quad just did it and helped out
Starting point is 00:24:01 feaster not to look or get all that egg on his face and february 28th this date in 1999 one of the greatest flames of all time dealt to colorado theo flurry and chris dingman to the avalanche for wade belac rene corbe and then it's They called it futures at the time. Now, Colorado had four first-round picks from the... Prior draft, I believe. Yeah, prior draft or... 98 draft, I think.
Starting point is 00:24:36 Some of it would have been the Lindross thing. Martin Scula, Scott Parker, Alex Tangay, Robin Regier, were the four first-round picks the Colorado had. So it's thought, okay, we're going to decide who it is, and then if, you know, don't want it to be Tangay or what... So it ended up being Robin Rageir, obviously, in a second round pick. Flames used the second rounder to select Jarrett Stoll. Who didn't sign?
Starting point is 00:25:00 Who was a flame for a couple of years, went back into the draft. It was never a flame, but yeah. Didn't sign. Well, he was essentially a flame that didn't sign, right? You're a Flames draft pick. And what was interesting is the Oilers, they had drafted Matthew Lombardi. They didn't sign him. so then the two teams drafted upon re-entry the other guy.
Starting point is 00:25:25 Edmonton takes Stoll, Calgary takes Lombardi. Lombardi ends up in Switzerland. Stoll. Banker money. Stole, busted at a pool party. Stanley Cup, Aaron Andrews. So anyway, that is a monster deal. Obviously, you look back at the Gilmore trade, probably the biggest in franchise history.
Starting point is 00:25:46 Five and worst. And this one. I think the Iggy deal has to be... For magnitude. I think the Dion one was massive in a lot of ways. But Flurry was still very much a huge contributor. Went to Colorado was over a point of game in the regular season. I think he had 17 points and 18 playoff games.
Starting point is 00:26:10 They lost to Dallas in the conference final. In 99, Red. I think Dallas beat Colorado. So anyway, big deal. That's how they got there then. Yeah. would you guys have beaten Colorado? It's weird.
Starting point is 00:26:28 I was cheered for Dallas because I didn't want to have to play Colorado again. I had bad memories. Yeah, you would. You'd have PTSD for sure. Where was that in the Peter Forsberg life cycle? Like, was he hurt? Was he dominant? Was he not there?
Starting point is 00:26:44 I'm trying to like match up timelines here because I just, I've seen some stuff of his pop-up on social. Injuries problem. That's probably the start of the injury problem. He was so dominant. Like, he might be one of those guys that doesn't get talked about enough. Like, you talk about McGillney, you talk about Bury, you talk about Kovilchuk, these elite elite players.
Starting point is 00:27:01 Forrestberg was a goddamn demigod. He had 97, this is regular season, had 97 points to lead that team in 99. Wow. 98, 99 in 79 games. Then Sackick with his 41 goals and 96 points. Claude Lemieux, 27 goals. Adam Dead Marsh Milan, Haydoo. Chris Drury, Sandus Ozilich,
Starting point is 00:27:24 the ad flurry, Adam Foote, Stefan Yell, good Lord. And Wynette. Wynette. That team has to feel like that slipped through their fingers. God, you talk about regrets
Starting point is 00:27:40 for as good as that Colorado team was there. It's hard, like Dallas had a hell of a team. If you do the lineup for Dallas, you're going to be just as impressed. And Detroit at that time, right? That was the other big heavy in the West. that all those those are the super teams in Detroit.
Starting point is 00:27:57 They ended up winning what? Double O and O1. So the two years after Dallas, I'm correct? No, no, no, no. 96 and 97. And then again in 2002, didn't they? I thought there was another wave there. Yeah, there was against Pittsburgh.
Starting point is 00:28:11 Okay, there you go. Flurry went to Colorado, had 24 points in 15 games. Then went to the Rangers, signed in New York, and it was a steep. decline shortly thereafter. The chapters get pretty dark.
Starting point is 00:28:26 Everybody went to die there. His first year had 15 goals in 80 games, then 30, then 24, then to Chicago, then to Belfast. Rock bottom in the middle there. And Sather was spending like a drunken sailor at that
Starting point is 00:28:43 point. He was just whoever and everyone. Let's go. Lindros, Flurry. Anyway, Gretzky. Holy, what? Bring him in. Yeah, I still remember that That was one of the craziest locker rooms, right? There's Leach and Richter and Messier and Lind. What are we talking about?
Starting point is 00:29:00 You look back now. You get that at the Hall of Fame, nowhere else. They were old, but yeah. Because those guys that you, like when they won the cup, it was 94, so you're talking like five, six years later for those cats. So you look back to that deal. God love you, Dinger, right? But there was a failed first rounder, more or less.
Starting point is 00:29:19 He did win a couple cups, I think. Anyway, but you're going to trade Theo, Flurry. You get Robin Regear back. You got a second. You got a couple of guys. Wade Belak, Renee Corby, serviceable guys. Reginald Corbett. Right? Retro? Waring his own jersey. Looking sharp. Reg was a great flame for a long time. And they moved them out for assets at the end, too. It wasn't like, like, they got a lot of the best of Robin Rearier. So you can trade away guys and do okay. I guess it's the, uh. Is there a theme? that's leaving town. That was like the again low.
Starting point is 00:30:00 Those top two franchise history probably, right? So a busy day in flames history on this date. As we look back with McLeod Law, Peter Klein, they're about community, they're about entrepreneurs, they're about, they're about you. There's a general firm there as well. It's not just personal injury, although that's kind of what Peter Klein and his people focus on
Starting point is 00:30:20 and what our kind of focus is. A community, deep, deep roots in the city of Calgary, big part of this city, client relationships, they understand this town, the people in it, the way things work, and they want to work for you.
Starting point is 00:30:33 Check the website, macloud-law.com. Go on your old social media there. I saw you were tweeting today, Retro, at McLeodlaw LLC on your Instagram or Facebook or Twitter. And give them a call, get in contact.
Starting point is 00:30:48 If that's something that's going on in your life, you need some help, there's no one that's going to help you up more or better than McLeodlaw. Do you have feelings? those numbers in Colorado in front of you. I know you're just looking at them. I do.
Starting point is 00:30:58 How many games as a member of the avalanche? 15 regular season. And then the next year he's gone or he stayed for? He's gone. He was just a... Okay. So it's 15 games plus the playoffs for 826 regular season games for Ruggier. And that also included a cup run. We know about no four.
Starting point is 00:31:11 I mean, I think that's a landslide victory for the flames. But at the same time, you're Colorado, you're like, we don't need these first rounders for this playoff run. Those guys are going to help us in three, four or five years. Yeah. And you had four of them. And Riguir was coming off that broken leg, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:24 Yeah, yeah. Like Zah, I think. I think he'd been traded already before the broken leg. Is that right? Okay. Yeah. Because he was a flames prospect at that time. Okay.
Starting point is 00:31:38 That makes more sense. And this Peter Klein is much better looking than the other Peter Klein that I know. That's the confusion. There are more than one. There is more than one. This one's not setting his alarm at 2 a.m. to watch Japanese wrestling. We know that.
Starting point is 00:31:51 Yeah. He's getting a good night's sleep, working on files, their way to work, clean-shaven, wearing a championship belt? No, that's correct. Okay. We don't think anyway. I don't know him a little bit, but maybe.
Starting point is 00:32:05 He's not working on his top 30 wrestlers of all-time power rankings. He's working on lawsuits and files and things like that. Still nothing from Sarah Valley. So he is chasing down a trade working the phone lines today. Why don't we get to the Pinder report? Let's do it. Let's do the Pinder report. It's presentation of Village Honda, your dealership for life.
Starting point is 00:32:23 The CRV hybrid is there. They've got the passport, trail, sport. The, of course, the brand new accord. There's a lot going on. The whole brand, Honda, very excited about what's going on in 2020. You should be too. Go and visit them. Go and see Anthony and Tanyan, everybody up at VillageHonda, Northwest Auto Mall.
Starting point is 00:32:41 VillageHonda.com is the website. You can click that QR code right there on your screen. If you so choose, Village Honda brings you the Pinder Report. Who was that guy that was doing the little Bob Barker walk around? That was unbelievable. Yeah, I forget me. Missed his calling. He was very good.
Starting point is 00:32:55 I'm like, this guy's got to be on the showcase showdown, walk people through what's going on. It's missed, like he should be in L.A. Or he's full of it and convincing. But so much so that he needs to be on TV. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:07 He was better than that Chevy guy with the sweaty keys in his pocket. Polar opposites. This is the guy that should be doing that. Hondo. Yeah. Yeah. All right, flames.
Starting point is 00:33:17 Inaction tonight against the Bruins and new pairs on the blue line yesterday, Retro unveiled. Oh. At skate, there's the little Mark. Old McLevin had this from practice yesterday. Mackenzie Weger up with Rasmus Anderson. And Noah Hannafin playing with Chris Tanna.
Starting point is 00:33:36 Look at your face. I really don't see a lot of separation in this top four. I don't mind them shuffling the deck if they haven't liked what they've seen. Sure, go ahead. Fire it up. Yeah, go ahead, change it. What is that, whatever. Hope it helps.
Starting point is 00:33:49 Good. Do it. Worth a try. Sure. Yeah. Okay. There it is. And they're, oh, another McLevin bomb. Vladar will start tonight, as he does against Boston.
Starting point is 00:34:01 Always the Boston, eh? Last, early in the season. Makes sense, too. Played very well. Flames lost 3-1, I think, with an empty netter or a late goal against. They allowed only 27 shots to Boston. Played well, but did not score. And, yeah, Disco Dan Vladar back in.
Starting point is 00:34:18 It's been a rough go for the Flames goalies in the month of February. This is the last day to screw it all up if you're going to have a shitty month of February, or at least to keep the trend alone. And he could really, he could really doom himself if he does screw it all up, right? Like, if he's civvy tonight, it's going to go south fast against the team like Boston.
Starting point is 00:34:37 Well, and then it's, you know, Toronto coming in. That's another good night to be civy, whether you're anyone in the organization of the point of that. Sivvy. Sivy. He's really used it as a verb, brilliantly. Sived out, Sivy.
Starting point is 00:34:49 Frank really appreciated it a week ago. It's now in the regular rotation. since then I've noticed. Heavy rotation. CIV. CIV. Sure. It's good.
Starting point is 00:34:58 Bruns. I like it. I like it. Yeah. Bruns played last night in Edmonton retro. They rolled with their backup. The sway dog,
Starting point is 00:35:04 a friend of the show. One day, we hope. Love the sway dog. What did they do in Edmonton on the road? Well, they won in regulation, which is kind of what they do. They've got nine more wins at, you know, 60 minutes of five on five,
Starting point is 00:35:17 no trinket three on three shootouts, then the second best team in the league. 46, eight and five. Yeah, they look a little excited about it, don't you think? Think how boring that. They'd be this good. If we were doing this show in Boston, how bored you'd be, Rhett? Too good.
Starting point is 00:35:35 What are we going to talk about? They're too good. What's that? Just take days off. Days off. What do we do just a weekly show? Yeah. How many wins this week?
Starting point is 00:35:46 Oh, only four of them. Yeah, they're only playing for us. Fellows. Yeah. Did we have another Black Hawk note or not? I thought we might have some late news there. I don't think it's coming up later, I guess. Here's thoughts on the Bruins.
Starting point is 00:35:59 If you had hit the futures market, last night's victory put them over their points total. You know at the beginning of the year, you go over under the points total? Apparently this team was going to be mediocre. Marshall's hurt. You know, McAvoy's hurt. What's great you're going to look like?
Starting point is 00:36:13 I don't know. A lot of question marks. Oh, they beat their point total before the end of February. They were 12 to 1 to win the east. 12 to 1 in the east. Okay. Hope you got in on that. Here's the standings in the Western Conference of the Calgary Flames. Not a lot of change last night and a lot of teams nearby them in the standings.
Starting point is 00:36:37 Okay. So there's Winnipeg, Seattle. And again, if we assort by points percentage, the oilers are down into a wild card spot. I don't care about the oilers. It gets worse for the flames if you do it by point percentage. I don't like it. Kind of does. They drop below Nashville. That's for sure. although Nashville's already sold some parts, shut down Johansson for the year,
Starting point is 00:36:57 taking offers on at Colm. But yeah, it's not rosy, red. This is not the spot you want to be in, that's for sure. So is that an indication of what the flames should be doing?
Starting point is 00:37:06 Well, I think it's... With a higher win percentage and probably chance to get into the playoffs is already selling pieces and we're still battling away. I'll say this. If you had 12 weeks of no cadre or no Lindholm,
Starting point is 00:37:18 you'd be selling. That's where Nashville's at. Well, and if somebody wanted to give you a first, a second, a fourth, third, fourth, and fifth and all of that. Yeah. Get fire away.
Starting point is 00:37:27 I mean, not even. Gosh. What's, what's, you know, got this year? Five frigging goals? Yeah, last year. Yeah, they're very different players. Yeah. Point being like a second, third line winger, middle six winger, they got that. Crazy. Tree should have traded Coleman back to Tampa. They loved them. Not at that sell.
Starting point is 00:37:43 Can't afford them. Got all that return. That's the thing was, because you look, Hagel came in last year. You know this year. They're all under a million bucks. You can afford everything because you take. half, eat half. Come on. At half his salary, still making more than Genoa and the term.
Starting point is 00:38:02 And it's about, what, eight years in difference in age? There's the swap. Don't trade them. Let's just continue on our path. The point of Jesus Christ. Yes, Tampa wanted Coleman and they screwed it all up. You're right. No, wait, Tampa wants to touch that in the 10 foot pole.
Starting point is 00:38:17 They let them walk. Out east, a little different picture. There's a lot of murkiness. and not a lot of clarity in what's going on in the West. Like no one secured any spot. The East very different. We pretty much know what one is in each division, what the two, three looks like.
Starting point is 00:38:37 And yeah, all those top six teams in the East are considerably better than anyone in the West. It's quite something. In fact, looking at those eastern totals of those three teams in East Division, Stanley Cup favorites, you wouldn't be surprised to hear many of those teams. In fact, here are the odds for the, an East team to win the Cup versus the West as the season's progressed threat. Yeah, they not only are better teams.
Starting point is 00:39:01 They've also added in trades. There's a bit of a power imbalance all of a sudden. I think if you then put, you got a, it's easier path through the West. It sure is. It's going to be an easier journey. It's not going to be, you know, less games. Think about if you were the, like the Leafs or Tampa. So you got each other in round one.
Starting point is 00:39:22 You're going to have Boston potentially in round two. And then around three, you're going to have whoever comes out of that absolute bloodbath of New Jersey, the Rangers, Carolina, like, just to get to the finals, it's going to be a freaking war. And you would hope if you're the team that comes out of the West, that maybe the team that does come out of the East, like you say, maybe they're all beat up and battered. They've had to go six, seven games all three rounds. Another note for tonight's game, Rhett, they're going to have these awesome Black History Month,
Starting point is 00:39:48 Jerome Ginnla, jerseys for warmies, which we've liked. This is fun. the NHL traditionally not been cool. These are some unreal jerseys. And look who's modeling them. London Hoylet of the hitman. Let's have a few little gander at some of the picks here. So there's the patch on the shoulder.
Starting point is 00:40:06 The big tree. Did they send us one? Not yet. They usually like us more when the team's winning. Weird how that works. Love that. And then look at the golden sea on there. Oh, golden sea rat.
Starting point is 00:40:18 That looks awesome. Speaking of McGinla and gold. today. 2010. Oh, no way! He gets one? What? And not us?
Starting point is 00:40:27 What? Don't give anybody a dirty. Get him in the building tonight. Look how old that guy looks. Holy or an old bastard now. He looks the exact same. Maybe a little less here. Answer your phone, too.
Starting point is 00:40:40 It's happening again. Speaking of gold, Rhett, 2010, 2010, Feb 28, 2010, 2010. It was the golden goal. 13, here. years ago today. Where were you, Red?
Starting point is 00:40:54 Back from Scottsdale. In an airplane flying back from Scottsdale. Oh, boy. You missed it, eh? You dope. 740 of overtime. Team Canada's Sydney Crosby. I didn't hear.
Starting point is 00:41:06 Give and go with Iggy. Crosby the Golden Goal. That got memed pretty hard. That pitcher, didn't it? Look at Niedemeyer. Yeah. You did it. Ho-hum.
Starting point is 00:41:14 It's a big old flag. That was a place to be, my friends. I was not in the building, but one of the tens of thousands that flooded into the street. streets in Vancouver. What a victory. Maybe the most memorable victory in Canadian hockey history.
Starting point is 00:41:27 Wow. That boy, Jerome. Boy, Iggy? Boy, Ig. Getting misty. It can be tough to recover from that one. Oh. Bring him home, Rat.
Starting point is 00:41:38 Bring him home. I think what is? Is he not shaving his head? It looks like he's got some bristle on there. I think if he took her down to the wood, it'd be like normal there. Good old days. It's just one day laid on his razor. Who's going to tell him, though?
Starting point is 00:41:48 Look at his hair in this picture. There's a lot more of it. Yeah. And there's... Top right corner. And look right beside him. There's Sid who scored the winner, just on the fringes of this photo. Just don't...
Starting point is 00:42:00 That's the guy right there. 8-7. Wow. Where were you, boom-boom? In my living room. Yeah. Shitting myself. Kids?
Starting point is 00:42:09 God. Yeah, of course. You would have been a mess watching overtime. And it was a little tense because they out played them, but then it was like, oh, we saw the one on Luongo, look out. A little tense. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:18 Yeah. It was a lot tense. A lot tense. Kids? Would have been young. Very young, yeah. Okay, too young. Get out of here.
Starting point is 00:42:25 Trades yesterday, we have more trades to announce. Gary Betman, boy, he's going to love all the retention and chaos on this one. Toronto bolsters the blue line. They had Jake McCabe, has been quite good for Chicago. Bring them in with Ryan O'Reilly, two former sabers are right. You've got to collect those old sabers from when they were dog shit. That apparently is the strategy this year. The big one for Toronto here, they give up a first.
Starting point is 00:42:50 They give up some other items as well, a second and a couple players. But the real coup for Toronto is Chicago elite half the money, not just for this year, but for next year and the season following. So they get Jake McCabe at $2 million as a top 4D for this year and two more. That's key for a team that's right up against it with huge money for Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Nealander, on and on it goes. And they've insulated that blue line. a bit more with a guy that's played pretty darn well
Starting point is 00:43:22 and physically a different kind of element there for that blue line. And same with Lafferty, I believe he has two years beyond this. This is one year beyond. This is the first of a two-year deal. He's a UFA when it expires. He's a speedy fourth-line center. And it's got a little bit of helium this year. People really like them.
Starting point is 00:43:41 So Toronto's loading up. East. Oh, Lafferty. Oh, Sammy. Sammy boy. How's Chicago doing with all this, Rhett? Well, it's not good now, but have a gander, what you? They've been stockpiling picks like maniacs.
Starting point is 00:43:57 Like tons of them. They've got six first rounders the next three years. That's double the normal total. A ton of second rounders, a bunch of thirds. On and on it goes. Picks, picks, picks, picks, picks, six first, six seconds, five thirds. Those are in the next three years. And they haven't sold Kane yet.
Starting point is 00:44:13 So they're going to add to that stockpile, you'd think. And they could land bad art as soon as this summer. All right. So you rebuild, boys. Go get the draft capital. Speaking of Bedard, big one in the toilet bowl last night, the Badard Bowl,
Starting point is 00:44:30 Chicago and the Ducks. Anaheim wins this. That's huge impact as two teams really battling it out to be the worst in the NHL to get the best odds to get Bedard. And the Ducks celebrated by putting on an incredibly goofy, oversized hat in an old starter jacket.
Starting point is 00:44:45 This is their new victory thing. They don't get to do it often. but they won a game. There it is. That's Troy Terry, I believe. I don't know if that started out as white or if that's always been cream, but it don't look new.
Starting point is 00:45:00 Yeah, that's probably an OG from the day, I would guess, right? Yeah, it's, have more credit if it was. Yeah, she don't look new. Guys are loving these big hats. Yeah, another big hat. They had to celebrate their odds of getting Badaard dropping, I guess, in Anaheim. Tough spot to be in.
Starting point is 00:45:16 The Canucks. They'll take their wins when they can get them. Canucks. Statue Demko was back. They played Dallas. Canucks just keep losing. Badaard wants to be there. It's his favorite team growing up.
Starting point is 00:45:26 Canucks, blow a lead late, but winning at overtime, continuing a great tradition of winning meaningless games down the stretch. Here's a lovely tweet from a big Canucks fan, yeah. There's a video of people just slamming themselves in the groin. That's the Canucks.
Starting point is 00:45:45 Meaningless wins down the stretch. I don't know if we have the video. It's quite disturbing. being an excellent. I don't need, yeah, I get there. There's one,
Starting point is 00:45:52 two, three. Here we are, Rhett. That's the Canucks winning games down the stretch. Oh, talk it's so good. He's fixing everything.
Starting point is 00:46:00 Yes. Yes, Demco's back. Amazing. Get a brick in there. Yes, there's more, Red.
Starting point is 00:46:06 Look, yeah. You need to make this. Oh, yeah, the coach is in, the GM's in. Patterson heating up. What a team. What do I need to do?
Starting point is 00:46:15 You need to reenact this video. Oh, no, red. Oh, geez. Oh, boy. That's the Canucks down the stretch. Those if you're not watching, you're lucky. Yeah, Swift kicks to the groin is basically the Canucks down the stretch. And so, okay, we've got the ducks, the hawks, the Canucks.
Starting point is 00:46:34 Let's take a look at the Bedard board. Where are we at? By the way, Village Honda, you're welcome for this. That's right. It's very high. This content. You're welcome. If they're serious about vehicles as these guys are about blows to the groin,
Starting point is 00:46:46 I mean, that's the kind of people you want to deal with. the sacrifices they're prepared to make over Village. Jesus, God, God. That's right. You want that 2023? We'll get it to you. Let's go. Anything to help.
Starting point is 00:46:57 Anything. But Ardwatch, let's look at the numbers. Chicago. Look at how tight these points are. Right. This is projected totals. Three teams, Chicago, Columbus, and Anaheim projected within a single point of each other for the end of the year. Huh.
Starting point is 00:47:12 I love me a great finish. Yeah. What, uh, how does it work again? Like, what are the precise? percentages from first to second to third. I think it's like around 20 for the worst place team. That's only because these are projected totals. They'll be clearer numbers when they're done.
Starting point is 00:47:29 It's not, I don't think you're more than a quarter if you're the worst team in the league to get them. Maybe like 28? We'll look it up. We'll have it for tomorrow's show. It's not great. Not great, Bob. Remember we told you, I feel it was around Christmas time.
Starting point is 00:47:42 Do you know about Nella Lupuscova? She's the 14-year-old Slovakian hockey. phenom that was lighting up grown professional hockey playing women at world championships. Well, she ain't 14 anymore, Rhett. Her 15th birthday yesterday, how'd she celebrate? 10 goals, 9 assists in a 24-to-1 win. She's got 49 points in 8 games. Next year, she's allowed to participate in the women's league.
Starting point is 00:48:11 She's also playing on a U-16 boys team where she's like three points a game. It is something. And how does, do you think they like her? Brett? She had nine assists, ten goals. What do you mean puck hog? If you like puck hogs. Did you like Gretzky?
Starting point is 00:48:25 That's kind of what he did when he's a sports team. There she is. She got caked. The girls love her. Amazing. Such a good story. Love it. What kind of cake?
Starting point is 00:48:34 I don't know. Like cream something. I thought you don't like cake. I like cake. I don't like pie. Jesus. Brett, it's not going to, I don't know how you're going to feel about this.
Starting point is 00:48:49 there are images from the new Bill's Stadium. And you know what it isn't? Buffalo. It's fancy. It's shiny. It's good looking. It's hoity tooty. It does not.
Starting point is 00:48:59 I'll beat it up. Well, you will, but there's no greasy finger wingsaw stains on the windows here. Let's take a, Bill's getting gentrified, not something I'm ready for. I think that's a sentiment we can all agree with. Look at some of these images. I mean, it is fancy pants McGee here. There. And again, I guess you.
Starting point is 00:49:19 downtown you idiots you probably have to imagine it with like two feet of snow and just busted folding tables all over the place that helps with the vibe but look at this are you kidding me geez right you're gonna get a seat license what are you doing there uh huh huh huh yep i'm on it i'm on it secondary market dino makes some money no roof hey why you saw this year why would you not a roof on there well you know dean they're not really built for throwing the ball so i imagine they want to keep the elements there yeah they've really dedicated to the run first. Yeah. Finally, some great news in Calgary fellows. It was announced this morning, our good pal Adam Stanley, Canadian Golf Standout Reporter, announcing the 2024 24 CP Women's Open coming to Calgary at Earl Gray of all places.
Starting point is 00:50:10 Oh, cool. Just the end of Cro-Joe. They're a beautiful track to get the brand-new club host there. And it's the big marquee Canadian stop on the LPGA tour. Brooke Henderson, excuse me, going to be playing her trade next July. Less than a year and a half away, Dean. Just, you know. That's our girl.
Starting point is 00:50:30 An $8 cab ride from our studios here. Boom. Love it. Come back, right, would you? Come back for next July. Call me, he'll be pissed off, though, because he won't be able to play then. Incorrect. So what they do is all the other clubs will give you,
Starting point is 00:50:45 oh, well, since you can come play us. He'll be thrilled. You can go off anywhere in the whole city. A little shh. back and forth trade. I feel like Comey doesn't have a whole lot to be pissed off about. Or at least he doesn't ever seem to be all that pissed off. Well, three puts, he gets seriously pissed.
Starting point is 00:50:59 Yeah, I guess so. But yeah, if that's your biggest problem, I mean, it's all relative. It's all relative. It just seems like things kind of roll for him. It's good. Yeah. He was in Carolina for that outdoor game a couple weeks. Saw that.
Starting point is 00:51:08 You should learn from him, boom, and quit taking life so serious and being pissed off all the time. Tommy'd be good for that, eh? Yeah. He also doesn't have kids, though, and mortgage. Well, that's true. got an easy street job yeah two dopes he works with six dogs 21 million garage full of car parts and kids bikes it's a different life right now that I think about it maybe not the best mentor 20 million will change your mood 20 25 what are the career earnings for one like the one deal was 20 Jesus
Starting point is 00:51:45 Michael we're in the neighborhood hey whatever it's not all about money it's not a m radio money do you know that No, it's sure not, Ryan. That's your Pinda report for the day. Fuck. Village Honda. Northwest Auto Mall, your dealership for life. I take it back. There was a space in there.
Starting point is 00:52:03 It was bleep, long breath, new paragraph, Village Honda. Village Honda. Thank you. Your dealership for life. Village Honda wants to buy your car. Sell it to them today. You'll get paid in 24 hours. No hassle, no obligations.
Starting point is 00:52:17 Just get that appraisal done and see if you can make a deal with the dealmakers. Village Honda. And apologies. There was a trade that broke this morning that we talked about. It was supposed to be in the pinn apart. We already mentioned it. Poli-R-R-V, so screw it. Never mind.
Starting point is 00:52:28 We're good. Yessa. Never worked for poor Yessa there. Where would this have been on the cell high, cell low spectrum? Is this rock bottom for Poli-R-R-V? I feel like they were talking about multiple seconds. And even when he was in Europe not playing, it was like, oh, no, we could get a pick for him.
Starting point is 00:52:45 And then, you know, he's always scoring, look at him go. He's got his tongue up his nostrils on the bench. Everyone loves him. This has to be rock bottom for the trade value for P.RV. Does it not? Well, yeah. They basically just gave them away. Cap space, cap space.
Starting point is 00:53:01 Yeah. They gave him away for cap space. Whereas, you know. But I get why it would have been hard to trade him. Oh, totally. Yeah. All the tools. Huge, fast, just could never put it together.
Starting point is 00:53:14 Defends very well. Cannot hit the broad side of a barn these days. Do you feel, do you feel like this is a guy that can now put it? it together? Yep. No. I think he'd be a real good middle six winger in Carolina. I mean, it's the type of bet they usually win on. Get a guy for nothing. I'm not sold on.
Starting point is 00:53:35 Yeah, and again, I guess we have to define, like, what's meeting expectations. Like, no one thinks he's going to be a star in this league. That's a top five pick. Right, but again, at this point, Carolina is not thinking he's going to be a star in this league. Like, if he's a third line winger, is that making it or not? Because that's what Edmonton doesn't want him to be right now.
Starting point is 00:53:52 No, I think you have to put him, can he be a Nchuschen? No, God, no. No, Nchuskin's a star. Nchuskins got a, what, 35 goal pace? But he bottomed out to this degree. He did, but he never flashed it. Well, I shouldn't say never.
Starting point is 00:54:07 He had that great rookie year. I mean, I just think they're different, but there's some similar tools, actually, now that you mention it. I think they're very, I would say they're probably very similar in terms of expectation, trajectory, because what was, zero goals? Frigin Nchuskin had the one.
Starting point is 00:54:23 Two years. Christ. Had nothing. Went back to Russia. This guy went back to Finland. Well, I think we, you know, as we sit here in Calgary, we can all say, Jesse. Best of luck. Can we call you Jesse now for Christ?
Starting point is 00:54:35 Good luck. Yeah. Have fun. Score 30. 40. 50. Do whatever you want out there. Win a cup.
Starting point is 00:54:41 Have a hell of a time. Oh. Roddy Brindamore's great guy. You know what he needs to do? Bring the cup back to Edmonton when they win it back to Edmont. Bring it back to Edmonton. They love the cup and Edmonton. Bring it back. Oh, they'll do it.
Starting point is 00:54:52 Tigger tape parade all. All the wounds will have healed by then. Yep. Bring him home. Bring him home. So who is left to be traded? I got a list for you. Because we were going to have Frank today.
Starting point is 00:55:03 Obviously he's busy on Friday. The daily face off. Trade deadline special is going to be on the channel. Yep. Frank going wall to wall, pillar to post, inside and out with everybody. Are the flames going to be involved?
Starting point is 00:55:18 It's hard to say. I know that Friedman was on with Merrick this morning and said, the flames are contemplating doing some things they certainly were not going to be doing at the start of the year, a.k.a. selling. Yeah. And you know what? I think if it's like you win and you get a loser point, man.
Starting point is 00:55:35 If you lose two of them, I think that's the equation that leads to the most action. If they lose two and you're like six out and the team's got games in hand on you, like, yeah, by all means field calls all day. If someone wants to overpay, go get it. Is that not off? like really like a micro thinking though if you win two games between now and Friday it changes what you're doing with the entire franchise trajectory so the last chance you can augment your roster significantly is the trade deadline right if you're one point out or you're seven out that's a
Starting point is 00:56:09 huge difference so if Minnesota wants to lose two and they win two you might be in a playoff spot Friday whereas if you bought it's the same team I get the math but it's still this team that this baffled you for 60 plus games. 100%. And equally baffling would be if they actually got their shit together. It would almost fit this season and scrape in as a wild card. And again, none of these guys turned to nothing this summer.
Starting point is 00:56:31 If you want to move Hannafin, you're going to get a haul now or in the summer. And to be fair, a lot of teams can't squeeze them in now that could this summer that would give you a haul. You got a bigger bidding war. Maybe not a higher price. Maybe something comparable.
Starting point is 00:56:43 But you get more teams burn in the phone line this summer. There's nothing urgent here. But if you see something that you think, This is like, whew, by all means. It's kind of the opposite of a lot of those years. Hey, Retro, where it's, you got to move this guy,
Starting point is 00:56:56 because if you don't, you're going to get nothing for him. I don't think a lot of these guys, because Luchich is expiring, I don't know how you make a, unless Luchich wants to leave. I don't know how that, what that deal looks like or anything.
Starting point is 00:57:10 Is Luchich? If I'm Luchich, I absolutely want to leave. Right? Does he want to go? Unless you think you're going to get extended here. And if he is extended here, What's our comment going to be on it? I don't think there's an extension.
Starting point is 00:57:23 Not that we're the brilliance behind the hockey, but I mean, if Luchich is on this team next year, I'm not, I'm sorry. I don't see it and I don't like it. What could you get for Luchich right now? Like a seventh, sixth, the best? I don't know that there's interest.
Starting point is 00:57:39 You'd be doing it as a favor to him. But again, you're doing it as a favor, yeah. No, no, no, I'm with you. If he wants to go and you want to move him, that's great. Does anyone want Milan? That's what I'm asking. And I'm not saying that it's a no. Because beyond that.
Starting point is 00:57:56 Go get a sixth from Buffalo, I guess. I don't know. Well, that's, and I honestly mean that. I'm like, would Boston take him for nothing? He can't play for them. Like, look at that lineup. I know, but it's a, again, it's a beloved, I believe he's a beloved.
Starting point is 00:58:12 It's a favor to him for what time served. You're not, you're not. It's not about the hockey. Yeah, I don't know how he plays. Why, you just want to have him around. They're going to have to have some captains around to have him as a 13th forward. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:58:27 I don't know. I really don't. Because there really isn't anything that's pressing, to your point, Ryan, right now. Next year is a different story. You got a lot of expiring contracts. If you don't move Trevor Lewis or Britt Richie before. Again, which contender do those guys actually slot into the top 12 for? I don't think there's one.
Starting point is 00:58:48 Every team in a position to win a cup has a fourth. line with better players than Lewis, Richie, and Luchich. That should say something to us, shouldn't it? Right. And that's fine. They're not good enough on the fourth line. We get it. My point is, you can't trade a guy and know what he wants.
Starting point is 00:59:05 So for everyone saying, sell Lewis, like, you're getting nothing. Like, sure, if you could. I don't think I'm, like, I don't think I'm talking about that. I'm talking. I was actually going to say it might be too bad for Tree because a lot of these teams are making moves and have already and probably tree isn't sure what to do it and maybe not even hasn't been called
Starting point is 00:59:25 and he doesn't have to do anything. But if he was to do something, some of these doors are already closed. The teams have made the moves. I'll say this. They won't give anyone clarity on Shillington and they might not have it, but if they did, it wouldn't help their business
Starting point is 00:59:38 to tell people what was happening, right? But if they knew Oliver Shillington was coming back to camp next year, I would think a lot harder about getting Zedorov into assets for next year. Because if your fifth best defenseman's Oliver Shillington next year,
Starting point is 00:59:55 you can go find a six for a million bucks. You can get some cap savings, which they already need. And if you see the prices being suggested for like Luke Shen, Eckholm, Chikrin, like he's none of those guys, but if you could get assets for him,
Starting point is 01:00:10 I don't think that would be the detriment of the club if you knew you had a Shillington coming back. And that's just obviously wild speculation. I have no idea if they, have clarity on that. That makes sense to you? It does, but I also sit here and hear you crush Zedorov Monday to Friday. Yes and no.
Starting point is 01:00:29 I mean, there's been really good stretches. I think what we've seen from him in Calgary is when he's sheltered and with the right partner. Yesterday you said you were going to pull your hair out. He was making you like yank your hair on your scale. Anytime you played in the top four. Yes, that's exactly the context of why I said that. And it's true.
Starting point is 01:00:45 Like if you're bringing Nikita Zadorov, it'd be a top four, it's not going to work. Like Erica Branson's top four, knew that wouldn't work. Columbus, it's not working. But in the roles they were put in here last year, and this year to some extent with the Qaeda, that can work. If you're looking to upgrade your third pair, you can do worse, right? Very physical. Doesn't have a brain that functions. There again, he's a guy that makes 3.75 with another year. Yeah. I think, yeah, it takes, I don't see it. It would take a very unique scenario, I think.
Starting point is 01:01:20 Because so many of these teams, we talked about the teams in the East that have already spent draft capital and cap space to bring guys in. I don't know. This is, this is a, I feel, I feel like if, if you're around Bradshaw living right now, he'd be a sour guy because he loves trades and the trade speculation and talks and haggling back and forth. What are you haggling? He's basically got a Ryan Carpenter deal to make.
Starting point is 01:01:47 That's about it. Take one of our depth guys. for a late, late pick. You got nothing to sell. You're not really buying. You got nothing. Certainly not buying. Right?
Starting point is 01:01:57 What do you? So he'll be sour. If the team, if the play this year hasn't pissed him off enough, he'll be sour. If he's been talked to about even being the bloody GM next year's hands, he's probably not getting calls. He's probably not calling anyone to make trades. But he probably doesn't even.
Starting point is 01:02:19 If he hasn't been approached about running the organization next year, he's probably handcuffed there too, right? I have no idea where things are out on that front. I'm fascinated. And like, what are those channels? Who's having those chats? Is it owner GM? Is it owner coach GM?
Starting point is 01:02:35 Just, you know, John Bean get circled in on this stuff? Like, the one thing that hasn't been clear pretty much in the history of, you know, since Rets played for the team is what exactly is the chain of command and who has the absolute power on what thing? I saw something on, and it just kind of struck me because we've talked about it here. Kyle Dubus does not have a contract for next year.
Starting point is 01:03:00 And now he's spent a first in the O'Reilly deal and another first, like multiple picks here. Like that, wow. Right? Hasn't given up much in the way of top prospects, though. If they, so two first, two seconds, so it's a lot. It's not nothing.
Starting point is 01:03:17 And it's a lot. Yep. If they get bounced by Tampa, there's no shame in getting bounced by Tampa, does he keep his job? I would keep him because I think he's really smart and he's good, but I'd understand that an emotional fan base in that market will want blood. They'll want somebody's head on a stake. And it's like, you know, you look at who they've lost to.
Starting point is 01:03:41 Like the bubble one was the real embarrassing flop. That was the Columbus. You can't be losing a freaking Columbus. Columbus. That was the first bubble playoff, not the second. But like the Boston teams they've lost to, the Tampa teams they've lost to, like but you're right. Like you'd
Starting point is 01:03:57 understand if they did. I just think careful what you wish for, because they had a whole bunch of GMs before Dubas that couldn't even get them in the fucking playoffs. They're going to 100 points every day. You can argue, yeah, but just saying because he's smart and he's in that there's other guys that are good at what they do as well.
Starting point is 01:04:13 Of course they're on. We didn't know what this guy was until he had a chance and he's been given a chance. I really liked his work. I think they've kind of had, obviously, the bad luck in the postseason, and you could argue he hasn't built rosters the right way, but he's tried with Felino. He's tried with Simmons. It's not like this is all skill. They don't have muscle. They've tried to add a lot of brawn. He's, I think he's a savvy guy. If he was to not have a job there, I think he snapped up immediately. Because there again, it wouldn't be a firing. It just would be a, it's the same situation. End of the contract, right? And all of this. I don't, I like Ryan O'Reilly
Starting point is 01:04:46 there. I think it's a good fit. You had to do something on the back. and have fun with Tampa and Boston. Yeah, that's just it. He's a victim of the East. Which is like, again, would you fire a guy because he ran into really good teams in the playoffs? It's like, careful, not firing. Fair. Right?
Starting point is 01:05:07 And there's no market like maybe Montreal, but there's no market like Toronto. None. No, you're right. That's the greatest of all pressure cookers. And the flip side is true. If they ever found a way to get through it, like they're gods for the rest of their lives. Because what is it, eight years?
Starting point is 01:05:24 What's the run since they've won a playoff series? Oh, series is like way a long time ago. They weren't making the playoffs eight years ago. It was it mid-90s with Gilmore the last time in my series? No. Because you look at this. No. Some model of stuff since then.
Starting point is 01:05:37 Yeah. Because this team, you have Matthews for another year. Maybe more. Yeah. It is, again, I don't, I don't, we're talking about the leaf. I don't necessarily care about the Leafs, but it is... It's not boring. It's not boring.
Starting point is 01:05:53 And you don't have to be like, I hate them more, I love them. It's just a fascinating circumstance, given everything you've mentioned, and that it's the largest market in the hockey universe. The pressure there is unparalleled. Rhett, give me your... I mean, it's Boston tonight. Boston, then those Leafs, two of the best in the National Hockey League. I guess in a way, if you need more of a measuring stick, here you go.
Starting point is 01:06:14 I can't imagine wins or not to disagree with Ryan. I just can't imagine that if you win the next two, that suddenly Trillivings in work earlier than usual on trade deadline day to get some stuff done. 0-3-04, last time the Leafs won a series. Oh, the hell I was talking. Eight years is kind of that band. Clark will.
Starting point is 01:06:35 Yeah. 0-3-04. That's almost 20 years. So Boston Flames tonight. I'm with you. I don't think that if they win, I don't think that your living's adding. And that's the weird thing about this trade deadline.
Starting point is 01:06:53 I don't think there's much happening one way or the other. But I think that a loss just, you can't make any changes. But at some point, the players will start to, I hate to say it, they're going to start to lose hope. Disengage a bit. Right? Yeah. Yeah. Like you get snot bubbled by Boston and then your eyeball in Toronto coming in.
Starting point is 01:07:19 Everybody loves to beat Toronto, but it ain't an easy task, right? The what if game is lots of fun to play. So they could go out and they could absolutely win and it's a funny team because they have six, they have good games against good teams. Rangers are a hell of a team. They played them well, right? Like Tampa. But are we bet?
Starting point is 01:07:40 Is anyone, you're going to do a bet here coming up. Are anyone putting money on the flames to win tonight? God, no. And if you don't believe they can win to. tonight, why do you think they can win in a seven-game series? Come playoff time. Yeah, I mean, I would say you're not going to face a Leafs in the Pacific in round one, but I get your point.
Starting point is 01:07:59 Like, it's tough to sell these guys as contenders right now. And look, if you win two, it's, I don't think they're adding. I just think they might stand Pat rather than sell, if you know what I mean. I'm winning Tuesdays are easy. Well, you keep guys engaged at least, too. If you win the next two, I think it's a good sign and you can try and fight to get in and get on one of those runs. Again, we're not against it.
Starting point is 01:08:17 Yeah. just you have to win these games that's the 06 oilers were way out of a playoff spot 20 games left and i think they got points in 19 of the last 20 games and they go to the bloody stanley cup finals no one thought that dwayne rolandson was going to take him there and then he got hurt blah blah blah that shit can happen so sure let's have it happen we're in but it has to start they can be a point out to start like there has to be a point where it begins yeah it's not with the last seven games. Oh, we were out.
Starting point is 01:08:48 We nailed seven in a row. We're in good shape. It has to start. Yep. Please. Last call, isn't it? Feels like, okay, get your drinks. Minnesota.
Starting point is 01:09:00 Two games and four nights against the wild. Coming up after this two against Boston Strong. After Burner on our YouTube channel tonight, Ryan and I will walk you through this one. How are you? in. How are you feeling about After Burner tonight? You got good vibes or are you like, holy fuck, what am I doing with him? Look how excited he is. It's PTSD for sure. Yeah. We haven't updated after Byrner record. Look at the excitement. We got three wins now because they won one last week week on afterBer. Yeah. I hope and pray that you look better than when you had to do it with Rob.
Starting point is 01:09:39 I don't want to turn to TV on tonight and see that fatigue in your eyes again. You guys. got to go get the Cleopatra mask this afternoon. Put it on your face. Lay down. Get that light on there. What he needs is not what he's going to get. He needs a nap before then and he won't. It's going to go as you expect it.
Starting point is 01:09:58 Look at him. He's sleeping right now. It's not happy. That's why he's wearing shades lately. That's his fart smell of face there. He's not impressed at any of this. He's like, piss off. Leave me alone.
Starting point is 01:10:12 I'm sorry, boo. You only hurt the ones you love, remember? Come like that. BK. Beaufort liquor with our cheers of the game. And of course, Eric Newman. Newman Dean's a realty.
Starting point is 01:10:22 Buy it or sell it. Dean's going to commit suicide in the next eight days. Afterburn tonight, after the flames and and Brunsky, hey, let's do a betway, Bits of the day
Starting point is 01:10:33 and we'll get out of here. Yeah, Betteway, Betway, Betts of the day. Get the Betway. And you know what? We'll have it. Alex, the guys have been putting up, you wouldn't have seen it. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:10:43 Right on the YouTube channel, there's been a poll. that's been running. We'll take a look on it. Betway Betts of the day, ordinarily, Flames game day, you go with the, I couldn't do it today. Had to go another way. Had to go another way. Carol Caprizov, Tage Thompson, both to score tonight. Plus 240. That's a good number for two snows.
Starting point is 01:11:05 Wild and the Islanders, Sabres and the Blue Jackets. I love this one. Plus 240. Caprizo had the Haddy the other day. Thompson's got 40. I think two last game I went 3940 his last game. And so that's the first one. And then just throwing some points together. Matthew Kachuk, David Pasternak, Eric Carlson. That seems like a slam dunk.
Starting point is 01:11:25 Just a point each plus 110. Wow. You're digging, right? Don't mind that at all. Yeah. I'm going to go back to the well in something that hit for us last Flames game on a weekday where we made our picks
Starting point is 01:11:38 and that was against the Vegas Golden Knights. We went over one and a half power play goals total. Flames penalty kills not been so great lately and the power play's actually looking a little better now Boston's good at everything so I don't know
Starting point is 01:11:50 if I'm holding hope for a huge night for the Flames power play but the Bruins power play wants to have a good night that could do it alone right there plus 125 if there's two total power play goals or more
Starting point is 01:12:00 and David Pasternack if he scores and the Bruins win this anyway anyhow plus 170 didn't score last night he's well overdue yeah he is it's been one game
Starting point is 01:12:12 13 million next year The hell have? 13. 14. Unless it's a hometown discount. I'll take 10.79 or some stupid. I'm waiting for one hockey player and his agent to have the balls to really play this system. Sign one year 15 million, two years, 26 million, and jump back in when the cap's like 100 million.
Starting point is 01:12:36 Don't get locked in for the next eight years. You like Boston, stay in Boston. You can resign in Boston. It's got all the cards, all the chips right in front of. them here. You don't have to lock in for eight years. Come on. Baseball guys do that all the time. There you go. Those are the Betway bets of the day. Get that Betway app. Get it on your phone.
Starting point is 01:12:53 Take a look. Sniff around. See what you like. Be responsible. Be 19, but use Betway with our bets of the day. They do it, but sorry to interrupt you. They do it because typically baseball is less career ending, isn't it? Yeah, you play later. Injury risk is less for sure. Because of what last week? Mani Machado shows up in. San Diego and he's opting out of his contract. And then sign a new one. And then, oh, 350 million. Two-70 times over 11 something like that.
Starting point is 01:13:21 Yeah, a lot. A lot's good. It's hard when someone puts a hundred million in your, in your grill to not put your stamp on. I know. I know. Is it? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:13:32 Mm. You get, hear the beeping. The fridge of that. Beeping? Mine's a flat line. You know what that is? What is it? No, no, that's, uh, that's a, uh,
Starting point is 01:13:44 beef brisket roasting in the oven Is that your house where that was coming from? Oh, I'm gonna crush it. I was cooking all more and did you see my tweets? Pinder,
Starting point is 01:13:54 you always give me crap for not tweeting I was tweeting today. Give an insight into the Redster's life. I thought I had you on he was doing some meal prep this morning. Doing some meal prep but I'll like further to this game of food on our YouTube chat
Starting point is 01:14:12 on the YouTube channel which is streaming live, this program every day. You can be a part of it. If you're not, which do you prefer pie or cake? And we had 100 voters chime in. Again, just small. Just small, a little sample. Look at that.
Starting point is 01:14:28 Jeez, look at this. Fitty, fitty. Are you surprised by that? I thought cake. Well, the problem is, let's be honest with you. You can have, what are we talking about, like, fruit cake? Isn't there? Or are we talking about what kind of pie are we having?
Starting point is 01:14:46 Like chicken pot? Earl produces wife's pie was sensational. I had an unbelievable chicken pot pie the other day. It was fabulous. I'm going to say for probably the people that are on this. This is a dessert. Probably aren't thinking as deeply as we do on stuff like this. They're probably thinking, I don't like chocolate cake or like apple pie.
Starting point is 01:15:04 Right. It's your birthday. You get whatever you want for cakes and pies. What do you pick? I think it's probably how you. Cake. The Paul Newman. Alex.
Starting point is 01:15:12 says vague on purpose, just to kind of keep all doors open. That's right. Why wouldn't you? 100 votes even. I love that. I'm pie. I'm pie as well. Where are you on the angel food cake, Brett?
Starting point is 01:15:25 Do you like angel food cake? It depends on the, uh, the, uh, the, I like angel food cake. Actually, the shoveler makes a nice angel food cake. It's underrated cake. I need the nice whipped, whatever it is. It's not frosting, but, yeah. Uh-huh. It's icing.
Starting point is 01:15:41 Ising. There's a new cookie. joint down here called crumble. Oh, I'm not a sweet sky, right, Dean? Of course, you're not. You put that shit by my face. It is getting crushed. How's this, so good.
Starting point is 01:16:00 How's this new diet going that you talked about yesterday? Wait in today, 2-28. Pretty good for me. I was going to say, that's wheelhouse. That sounds right? What was the, uh, I'm going to drop it? What was the peak? What's been your peak?
Starting point is 01:16:15 Ever or like ever? Nobody's, nobody steps on the scale. scale at a total peak, right? Like you kind of crest and then you drop a little, then you go on the scale. Because at the total peak, you're too embarrassed to do it. So the biggest number you've seen. Yeah. We'll add five.
Starting point is 01:16:31 Biggest number you've ever seen. Two, probably the biggest ever, 255. Are we going to do this too, Dean? Are we going to plead the fifth? No chance. Interesting. Maybe someday. Maybe someday we'll toast.
Starting point is 01:16:45 I'm going to hit 200 one day, boys one day. Look at this. Photo on online. someone tell boom I'm going to be late for the show got to finish making fries did disappear so you're what just frying up some some potatoes there well like I was doing the food prep thing like you're supposed to so you don't reach for the cookies and I had some leftover potatoes so I'm like hmm it was a little bit of the Eddie Murphy right I can make a better burger than than the joint and I thought I can make a good fry. My kids have never had
Starting point is 01:17:25 Retros homemade fries, so I was giving it a whirl. How we dressing those? You got pepper, vinegar, hot sauce, ketchup, what's the move here? Yeah, I'm a big vinegar guy, but I bought, I don't know this is going to sound, so I fried up a bunch of chicken chunks
Starting point is 01:17:41 and put the, it's a different kind of hot sauce, but I put a bunch of hot sauce on there and I got a blue cheese dip that is phenomenal here. So I'm going to go with hot sauce and blue cheese on my fries too. Don't you have an air fryer? I do, but I used it
Starting point is 01:17:57 to cook the brisket. Slow cooked a brisket, and then I throw the friar on top. It needs another. Finish it off. You need another air fryer. And not the weird one that's also a brush cooker at the same time.
Starting point is 01:18:09 He's got some futuristic spaceship one. I don't know how a brisket is fitting into an air friar. It's like enough for one sandwich. How big is this brisket? No, no, no. That's why I have a good air friar. You guys get to one of those $7. cheap ones, yeah.
Starting point is 01:18:23 All right. And 20 million changes your life, me. It does, apparently. Apparently. That's going to do it. I don't only spend it all. So you were doing some meal prep. What else did you have?

Starting point is 01:18:53 And then there's sausage, sausage potatoes and beans, and then some Orzo, some Greek chicken, and beans. Wow. Look at this. Greg Keller. Greg Keller is sitting at Bontan Meats right now, just crying into his coffee. Yeah. Well, he's going to look at what this, this guy where he's been and where he is now. He's also probably reading his financial reports that rent money's been missing for what, six months?
Starting point is 01:19:19 He's actually texting me right now. A fucking air pot for a brisket. Jesus. Yeah. He'd be so disappointed in you. He can be disappointed, but it's delicious. I know what I'm doing, and I appreciate Greg's take on things,
