Another glorious edition of Barnburner is underway here
and another glorious week in the glorious month of January.
Glory.
Hallelujah.
How are we doing, everybody?
Good to see you.
It's Boomer.
It's Pinder.
It's Rhett Warner.
And we got a lot to get to today.
Some of it good.
Some good stuff out there.
That right.
Some of it not so good.
Okay.
Sadly, the part that's not so good is probably should be the focus of the show
given what we do and where we are.
that sort of thing, the, you know,
anyway, we'll get to it.
Retro, how are we doing?
I'm excellent today.
I'm much more alert and awake and less hung over than I was last night with Pinder
for Afterburner.
Nice.
He was a little, you put in a good effort, but the just,
the tank was hovering around E.
Yeah, I, afterburner, you mentioned.
We get to that in a moment.
I, you know what, it was awesome because I was able to hop in my vehicle this
morning, downloaded the podcast.
Listen to it on the way in.
How good that?
Tremendous.
I did feel like maybe the energy levels were a little low in Buffalo.
It was a long day, boom.
The shoveler went out drinking the night before,
so I was stuck with the brats.
And then I woke up really late
and scrambled to buy tickets and get to the stadium.
Didn't eat anything, had two coffee and 18 beer,
and then had to battle through the Chicago Blackhawks.
on a Sunday night.
Yeah.
Well, you know what?
That's too much coffee.
That's what ends up getting.
Only one, right?
Especially on an empty stomach.
You can't have two coffees.
Crashes later.
Right?
Caffeine.
Word of warning.
Moving forward.
I actually didn't think I was good.
I didn't think I was going to be able to do the show because I had the hiccups so
bad.
You did say half an hour before we went on.
I got the hiccups real bad.
I was like, please, please last.
That happens a lot.
I hear, you know, Bob Costis and guys like that.
They'll have to bail on a broadcast.
Yeah.
Because they've got the hiccups.
Well, you remember when Letterman had to cancel that show.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
Sorry, guys.
I realize you've all traveled to New York.
This is a big deal, but...
Show's canceled.
A little gassy.
We'll have to let...
A little bit gassy.
Here in the Tower Criesler Studios, we are...
There's a lot of things, January's proving to be very busy.
We have, of course, the Jasper Pond Hockey Tournament.
It's going to wrap things up.
Went to Tower last week to just say hi to Surge.
Nicky. Serge was away, as we told you. He was in
Belize or whatever. The Cheetah Thong. Yeah, that's
right, with the banana hammock. That's right.
Now,
the Wolverine, our guy,
made it there before we met there and he was there
ahead of time. So by the time I get there, go up to the office
and say hi, they're already talking. Apparently
we've maybe got another edition
for the pond hockey tournament.
Dition. Sounds like Serge.
Edition. Okay.
It's going to be coming. Can Serge
play a little biscuit in the basket?
Well, this is what I was thinking. I like that.
It happened very quickly.
Must have a bit of a ringer here.
Good, because I know we're not in great form.
We got a guy that used to play net playing out.
Yeah.
You had to dust your skates off.
They'd gathered so much dust in a box.
And no good to begin with.
And your feet hurt.
Yeah.
Wrette can't cross the border, so we can't rely on him.
I mean, we don't think he can.
Could change.
Even if he could, sore shoulders.
Hey, and guess what, fellas?
Just sorry to interrupt you.
Positive news on the tests.
Results come back.
Isn't it negative what you want on the tests?
You tested positive for committee?
Yeah, that's...
Jeez, Rhett.
No.
When the doctor said the test is positive.
That's not a good thing.
I've got some bad news.
You're positive.
Hey, it's all positive.
Well, excellent.
We got them back there.
They are all positive.
All.
Awesome. See you later.
You got the blackout bingo. You got them all.
TB, chlamydia, gonorrhea.
Yeah. So, search.
Sounds like he's going to be in. He's got a few things. You've got to make sure.
And I was like, well, you know, where did you play? Is it?
Oh, no. I don't have skates.
Oh. Pardon me?
So what do we need, like, can he cheerlead?
What are we where? So what do I need skates and a stick? Yeah, I don't have a stick.
We get some skates. He doesn't have a stick.
Oh, boy. Well, and you know these dork.
up in Edmonton are going to take this so seriously.
They're going to rename Highway 2 after this winter.
Like, come on.
Serge can, we'll get him a nice mascot head and you can cheer us on.
He doesn't have skates.
I don't know.
Serge, we love you.
Great guy.
You're welcome on the team when you've got a couple of years of men's league under your belt, okay?
But if...
Listen to you, I got a feeling Surge is in shape, and whether or not he can skate or not,
he's going to give her as all.
That's my interpretation from afar, a big surge.
I have a Theron three tournament this weekend,
so we'll see how that goes.
If I can be a net negative or positive,
will be interesting to see.
And you were saying put them in net.
It is pawn hockey.
I don't believe there's goalies.
No, we have the little mini ones.
The little we ones thing, yeah.
Stand in front of the net.
So it just comes, yeah.
What it comes down to is,
your ability to skate and how good you are
handling a puck and making passes.
That's right.
down to us skating. Actually, skill.
Yeah. So we should be just fine. So you've got a goalie skating out.
The guy who's feet hurt and his skates he hasn't used in years.
And me, which I don't like is very good.
So anyway, go by tower and say hi to Serge. If you have some skates for a stick, you can
lawn. That'd be great. Let him know you heard he's a really good hockey player from the
barn burner, guys. And then... I actually thought about that for my trip to Florida.
I'm like, I said, I'm in and I don't have equipment. How do I play?
That's a hockey team down there. Do you remember when I told you'd come up with
an excuse, kind of like you when you injured,
I raised the cow.
I pulled both of my hamstrings,
both of my ACLs and Achilles.
I got to say this.
Had a nice night at the hockey game on Friday.
Went to see the Flames and the Island.
That's right.
I saw you taking pictures of Steinberg's forehead
in the press box.
Good to see.
Steinberg.
Always good to see.
And a lot of very nice things said about the show
by a lot of the people at the dome.
We got a lot of people watching.
A lot of people.
people listening. So we appreciate that. Yeah. Had a quick chat with,
with Big D. Really? Yeah. Post game? Post game? Post game.
It would have been decent spirits. That was a victory. Victory. It was the one game
homestand. Yeah, the one game homestand. Last game of the homestand. And he was
jetting out because he's like, grandkids. Really? Really?
So he's like, as much as I'd like to talk to you, fat boy. I got family. I got more important
things to do. He's a big family guy, apparently. Talk to Trellivik. How's Mr. Tree?
doing? Well, he was getting ready for the, for the road trip. Also, I think this was right around
before the recall. It would have been busy getting the recalls happening. That's right. Did he leak you
that one? Well, yeah. Yeah. Well, yeah. Nice you not to tweet that. You don't blow up the spot. You don't
burn your source. You don't burn your sources. Even though we just told you who the sources.
But he had, his daughter was having a birthday. So they had a party bus and all kinds of stuff.
Really? He was really looking forward to going home and policing that. I'm sure he was. Yeah.
Geez.
As a father of a daughter.
Or Chicago, I mean.
Or Chicago.
Yeah, I could see which.
And I mean, Retro, we were talking about you.
Saw you made it to the game.
Now, I'm not sure because you're telling us you can't get across the border or you can, but you're worried about it.
You keep showing up at these home games.
Check this out.
Islander's game on Friday night.
I'm sitting up top watching from the press box.
And lo and behold, I kind of come down to meet a few people.
and there's old retro.
Got some nice seats in the lower bowl.
That sounds like Rhett.
Yeah.
Old Retro.
If we got that?
I don't sit with the general public, Dean.
No?
I sit in the sweets and private hallubs.
Hair's looking good.
Yeah, see, because mine's not doing it either.
We've got some...
Do a quick reset?
We got some things.
But if we both reset, then Rhett's going to have to...
Hey, you're right?
You can carry?
I'm not carrying any.
I feel time for ten seconds.
I think we're good on that.
the thing, but there we go. Here we're
there. Yeah, yeah. Oh, wow.
Geez, Rhett. Goodness.
It's been tough to.
See, I've heard business on top, but that's different.
There's certainly party in the back there.
You guys hack on
the Redster, but there are a lot of jerseys.
We're not hacking. We're pointing them all out. We're the ones
bringing them on the show, pumping you up.
Kenny Wagner sent
me a picture. He was with
a guy wearing a Cron
jersey and Warner jersey.
I'm like,
who,
how do you have a Kron Flames jersey?
He's a practice jersey.
He never played a single minute for the Flames.
Like,
what are we doing here?
Could you just,
you know,
you have to?
I love the guy,
but like,
let's stop pretending he played net once for the Flames.
He never did.
He played 20 minutes in Dallas.
Jeez.
He's good.
Hey,
20 more minutes than you or me.
20 more than you were me.
Same number in the Flames is you and me.
Granted my safe percentage is better,
but whatever.
We mentioned, so after Burner last night, the postgame show, brand new to Flames Nation and kind of the, I don't know, is it barn burner is after, whatever it is.
Kind of like a burner. Look at this. On school nights, as you, as you kind of put it, you can download the audio, you can listen to it on the way to work. You can watch it on YouTube. It'll be all up there. It's not live. It's live to tape. Whatever. We're still kind of iron and something.
Recording it at night, upload it and then you got it in the morning. But before we play it, you can even just looking if you're on the YouTube, you can, you can, you can see.
see the status of the ratster right there just slits for eyes that's a hey how's how's
how's she going i was trying to battle through i was going to drink my way through the party
and through the job and it was that game came on i got in my couch right there and she was that's one of
his uh shovelers like are you going to pass out was not one of his grandpa's sayings you know the
footprints, sands of time, work boots, drink your way through work. Yeah, that's exactly how
that way. Reassist leads to a goal when you're drunk at work. I don't know what I have.
They're all confusing. I had my Caesar poured. I thought we were having Caesar as in Pinder
wussed out. So I could have gone and grabbed a beer from the fridge. That's fair. You probably could
have. Yeah. I didn't see it coming. We went to the cheers of the game for our boys at BK.
Beaufort liquor. We cheers Danville at R for coming in cold and holding the for. Yeah, you did.
And Rettster had a clinky clinky, clinky Caesar with a.
keeps in that. Oh, wow.
Damn it.
Let's get a little taste of
after burner from last night's game.
I see a lot of frustration
on Flames's Twitter and I get that.
I think that frustration will
fade if they can do
a good job in St. Louis where they play Tuesday and
Thursday back-to-back games on the road.
Yeah, it probably doesn't end up
mattering in the grand scheme
of things. I mean, if one point keeps you out,
you might look back on it and go, but it wasn't
like you didn't show up at all.
It's just your opponent is so bad.
It's hard to take solace in the fact that,
oh, we outshot them and we had chance.
Yeah, I agree.
Yeah.
You followed up with two wins in St. Louis.
Okay.
Great.
That's great.
Wonderful.
You're still piling up points and coming out on top most nights.
But the Blackhawks are a bad team and it's a game you should win.
And it's, if you follow it up with a loss, now you start to go fellas.
It pitted points away here.
Phyllis.
Fellis.
Pissed points away.
Little taste from Afterburner last night.
If we haven't really alluded to it yet, yes, the flames fall in Chicago last night.
Four, three.
I gave the trail three one in.
Never led.
Get to overtime.
You mentioned Vladar.
He was not the starter.
It's, I mean, there's a lot.
And you guys were talking about it.
And I know Daryl Sutter talked about it afterwards.
You get the power play going.
Two for three.
Penalty kills perfect.
You give up a handful of shots only.
And you still lose.
Yeah, to the worst team in the league.
I don't think it's close either.
Having watched them?
They had.
And I was watching the game last night where they dominant.
It's the NHL.
Most games you watch, both teams are going to have a sequence at least or two in a game
where they have some pressure and chances to score.
And the Hawks had that where Vlodar had to make some very good saves.
But at the same time,
time. It's just how did the flames lose this game? If somebody was going to, didn't see the game,
ran into your retro at the, the liquor store, because apparently that's where you guys go a lot,
you and the shoveler. So somebody runs into it at the liquor store at BK. Beaufort liquor and says,
hey, I missed the game last night. I can't believe. So what, how did the flames lose this game? What
would you tell them? They were flat. They were flat. The shot thing, I was thinking about that after we
did the show Pinder last night in bed.
I was thinking about it. I'm like, maybe the reason the flames have so many shots,
you know, they're one of the highest teams of shots per game total, whatever, however they describe it.
But one of the reasons they might have that many shots,
because maybe they're not quite skilled enough to get into high quality scoring areas.
They aren't leading the league in high danger chances, that's for sure.
They're fourth in the league and shots per game,
and I'd suggest they're middle of the pack for the quality of chances they've created.
Yeah, and my point was when you dive into something like that,
it could very well be that they recognize as a team.
You know, we don't have Johnny Godreau to make the nifty little play
to make the backdoor tap and goal, right?
So we need to waste shots, not waste, but take shots.
Any chance we get, we're going to put the puck on net
and hope somebody gets there for a rebound or we get a break or something good happens.
And it's not a bad thing.
but teams with maybe a little more skill
might be saying,
I'm not going to shoot this one yet.
I'm going to hang on to it
and hope for a better play.
They also didn't get credit for the two posts
because those aren't shots on net.
Not that that's a high quality chance, clearly.
Coleman and tight and then Cadry,
I believe, no, Lindholm on the man advantage.
Yeah, Lindholm on the power play.
Yeah, I think it was probably.
And that would have put them three and three
in the power play, three for three, I believe.
And that would have been a big goal.
I would have put those third period
that you would have been up four three,
not tied 3-3. And look, we're not making excuses here, but it feels like an incredible run for
the posts here the last month or so. That's not always going to go that way. You are going to get
something that go post and Ian. They haven't had a lot of those lately. Are you, do you think
there any more than other teams? I do. I mean, maybe it's because, look, they went 5-1-1 on that
road trip, but still felt like you can think of posts in there. It's not even like it's all you're
losing. We're making excuses. Tafoli's at eight alone? Like, I know someone's keeping.
been track around the league that's that's insane i don't know is it like because there's got to be other
teams and other players that are hitting posts right like every you watch other games and i
because i'm in buffalo i like i was listening to the game on the way home saturday night
they were hitting posts too right like that's it happens for sure we talk about it a lot but i i
would like to know that oh yeah calgary's way in the league they sure have bad luck they've hit
a hundred more posts and other like i just don't know
if that's the case.
I don't.
It feels that way,
but maybe it's
because they're only
playing one goal games.
Like, again,
how many games
have they been out of
this year?
Like two?
It's wild that even
when they're not sharp
or they're up against
the best team in the league,
like you're in Boston,
a building the Bruins are underfrey.
They still, it's like,
there you are with an empty net late
trying to tie it.
Like, all of them are so close
that it feels like
that one post could be the difference.
If Buffalo wins seven, two,
or loses five, three,
we're not thinking that post is the difference.
You know what I mean?
Not to be negative, because I do hear you.
And we had the conversation a couple weeks ago,
it would have been before Christmas,
about the shots versus quality chances,
high danger, whatever you want to call it.
And this game last night, you get a point.
It's not the end of the world,
but it's a Western conference foe.
And I feel like a lot of teams are going to beat Chicago.
What was it, three wins in their previous 24 games
going into last night against the flames.
It does feel like there is a bit of a trend to it, though.
go back to, and I just went back a handful of games.
Montreal, you lose two to one.
Jake Allen, you got Jake Allen, 45 saves, outshot them, 46, 19.
You only scored one goal.
Columbus, you lose three to one.
You outshot them 32 to whatever with the empty netter.
That's a two one game.
You should have won that game.
Looking back at it, you had the better chances.
You didn't win that game.
Vancouver, 4-3 in the shootout.
Spencer Martin gets the win, 38, 27.
you had, it was 2-0,
a minute 48 in, remember Garland and was it Horvatt or whoever scored early there.
It was 2-0 fast.
Oh, boy, J-Ott, geez.
Oilers, Yot shot 47-22.
You lose that one 2-1.
The Winnipeg game last week.
You lose that one 3-2-2.
Not-shot him pretty handling.
35-25.
It was hellabuck.
It just feels like it's a good goalie or it's goalposts or it's something.
At some point, that's six games where you either got one or zero.
points out of a possible 12.
So you can recover from getting only one against Chicago.
So how many,
how many the last,
because they went 5-1-1-1 in that seven-game divisional run.
So that's before and after that.
I mean,
I think we're still talking about a team over 500,
from where you started talking until now, right?
The issues aren't different, though.
No, they're a team that's having a tough time scoring goals.
And they're going to agree with that.
Yeah, and Sutter said it after the game against the islanders.
We lost two 40 goal guys.
We're going to,
well,
you lost three,
because Lindy's not scoring 40.
those two guys. And the same thing with Manjapani, right? Manjapani was a 35 goal guy. So you,
he's coming, but it's frustrating. Is he not like the team season embodied? Like,
I guess, but wait a second. Didn't we, it wasn't this true living's, I mean, I don't think it was
his grand plan to, but this was the adaptation that he felt forced or comfortable making
after losing Godrow, Kachuk wants to leave. We're going to put together a squad that maybe
aren't going to score as many goals,
but has a better chance to play
stronger in playoff style hockey.
Does that make sense, right?
Wasn't that one?
We were sold, right?
Cadre is not going to get 40 goals.
He's going to get you 25, maybe 30.
He's going to, right?
But he's going to do other things that are better.
Huber though, maybe not expected him to have a few more.
But I think the point I'm making was,
wasn't this the,
kind of the game plan for this squad?
We won't be able to measure that game plan until we see them in a series, right?
That's the whole thing, is if we definitely know they're not as good as a regular season team.
Yeah, I don't know if it was the game plan.
I think there's two things.
We've talked about it.
We don't need to.
You have multiple offers for Kachuk.
We don't know what the other ones were.
You take this one.
You lose 240 goal guys.
And I just know from talking to me, like, we're going to have a hard time scoring.
Yeah, he talked about adding more offense in August before they even got to camp.
even with having Huberto,
which is, I think, is part of why he felt compelled to go and get
Codry and make that move with Monaghan and you sacrifice the pick, just knowing.
And then even after that, it's glaring.
Codry, sorry, Luchich, he's been the best Luchich he can be.
He's been all right.
But, man, he's not a second liner on this team,
let alone many teams in the NHL.
They've lost scoring.
They're struggling to score.
and I don't know where it's going to come from internally.
You can get more out of Manjapani,
but we're at the halfway point now.
What is it, seven goals and 41 games?
Yeah.
You're just, that their record is what it is right now,
1914 and 8 is probably fortunate
with how much offense they've lost.
And then you mix in marks for being just okay
for the first two months.
Yeah, like they haven't played the best hockey.
I know that's not like, hooray,
but yeah, there's still lots of room for improvement on the scene.
The power play can be better.
And that was the question I was going to have.
Because we had the, you see where there's room to improve.
We're now halfway through and we're still waiting for this improvement to happen.
They've improved.
But yeah, it's certainly not leaps and bounds.
Like there's still the same issues remain.
It's just, yeah, like, again, we'll, we're muted.
We see a five game road trip here.
you lose a couple in St. Louis, okay.
You win a couple in St. Louis.
Hey, it's a blip on the radar.
Just big samples, right?
Don't want to overreact to one.
No, which is why I kind of went back and looked at those other games.
And when you look at all due respect to Montreal,
but certainly Columbus and Montreal and Chicago.
Now, these are teams that these are the teams, good teams hammer.
And even those two wins against San Jose,
they were kind of white knucklers in the third period before things.
They want them, right?
And they scored a lot.
So you don't want to critique too much.
No, I'm not.
But it's...
They had that seven-game divisional,
where they had to take care of business
against teams of their division.
They went 5-1-1-1.
I like the effort against Winnipeg.
What you really start to need is
your goal would be better than the other goalie,
if you're going to be a team that's going to be middle of the pack
and scoring, which it appears they will be.
And I think a lot of people thought they'd be.
You do not...
Did Marksmen have seven shutouts this time last year?
The team has zero.
Yeah.
Like, there was just games.
where you got outplayed, but you still won.
They haven't had many of those this year at all.
Yeah, I just, I don't know that you can,
it is what it is, but I don't know if you're supposed to rely on
Marks Jim having seven shutouts.
No, but have two.
Jeez.
Halfway point.
Like last night, don't allow three at 11.
Make one more save and you win the game.
But, yeah, but those shutout saves don't necessarily mean that, or shutout wins.
You might have won those games anyway.
Do you know what I mean?
Like maybe that was a 3-1 win against or a 3-0 win against Santa.
My point is, just because it's a shutout doesn't mean that there's another win on the board.
No, I'm just saying if you looked at gold-
You might have a shutout in the games that you have won.
Markstrom has been not near as good as he was last year.
And I think he's improved in the last month, but it's just that's an area.
I will expect Markstrom to be better the second half of the season, as I would expect
Andrew Magiopani to be better.
And that line's buzzing right now.
He can't buy one.
I think the power play will be better in the second half.
half of the year. I don't feel like this is eternal optimism.
I feel like this is like regression
to the mean here.
I think they are what they are.
They're not going to regress. I think if
if Manjipani comes on, that's awesome.
But I don't see this team.
If Manjapani scoring goals, somebody else isn't.
Right? It's been, we're halfway through.
There's guys that score. Then they go on a run and then they slow down.
And Rojitska was scoring lots and oh my goodness, now he's great.
to now he's not any good.
He can't play.
You're going to, it's, it's an NHL season, ups, downs, everybody.
And I think this is what this team is.
And you said it five minutes ago, until the playoffs start, it don't matter.
You got to get in.
That's what matters.
Yeah.
If they make the playoffs, that will be the judgment where you can have legitimate
debate on are they better?
They're into playoffs.
Can they play play play playoff style hockey?
The knock against last year's team was, yes, they excel and they're scoring.
and it's wonderful to watch, but they didn't do shit in the playoffs to, you know,
they got through Dallas, tough series, but a lot of those high-end guys didn't do enough
against Edmonton to make a difference.
Can a cadre, can a Huberto, can those guys elevate their game?
Can Markstrom?
Markstrom was terrible.
Well, maybe not terrible, but certainly he's the guy that you rely on to equal out the
McDavid dry-sidal thing.
and I don't know if he's, I don't know if he can.
Yeah, it's great against Dallas,
the very mediocre against Seventon.
You go back to that Oylard series.
What did we, what did we say going in?
The huge edge in net is Calgary's.
Mike Smith versus Jacob Markstrom.
And Markstrom was, I was going to say brilliant.
He was tremendous in round one.
He really was.
950-ish.
It was Kim and Ottinger put on a show.
It was nuts.
Yeah.
Like he makes that save in Game 7 overtime.
Think about that.
You don't get past Dallas?
Woof.
he was great in that series.
And to be fair, like it wasn't like they held the oilers at bay
and the oilers were just floating them through.
It was breakaways and two-on-ones and backdoor tapings for Kane.
They had massive defensive breakdowns.
And I thought it was a really rough series for Hannafin and Anderson.
And so Markstrom wasn't great,
but it was magnified by the fact that they were shitty defensively.
Where do you see just the defensive aspect of the game right now?
We can talk about Markstrom.
I look this morning,
night where he lets in two, they only score one. If he lets in one, they don't see. The, the shell game of
goals for and against has really worked against him. His save percentage is 894. It's down from 897 before
last night. Yeah, but anyway, we talked about it. At some point, they're going to have to,
if you cannot outscore teams like you did a year ago, potentially, you're going to have to dig in,
but we're really not seeing that. Right now, they don't have Shillington. I'm just good, just for the sake,
just say he's out. You're not going to see him this year.
Tough to expect him, right?
Outside of that, this is your D.
They're all healthy. They're all in.
Is there room to improve? Are they playing well enough defensively?
Is this on the goalie? Like, what's, if you can't score, you got to keep them out of your net.
Yes, there's room to improve. I don't know if there's room to improve with the group that you have, though.
That's what I mean.
Rasmus is playing. Anderson is playing great.
Hanifin is what he is. Weager to me is what he is.
Tanav is what he is you have a Milan luchich in defense it's michael stone michael stone is the best
michael stone he can be right now it's that's the but he's so limited and right like it he's coming in
once every two weeks like having a great season yeah they're missing is not and he's playing on the
flipping power play a lot right like he's got a cannon for a shot okay but yeah he does the defense isn't
that it's not glaringly bad, but certainly you could upgrade.
And I think, you know, you talk about the offense.
If a Schillington had been here all year, you're probably going to have more points.
He's an offensive defense.
Right?
That's part of what he's supposed to bring.
So it helps everyone out.
But no, I don't think that that.
And you know what?
Whoever is teaching these flipping kids about two on ones should take a long walk
of a short bridge.
Peer.
You ever heard that one?
Bridge is still really.
Oh, anyway.
Yeah. Plank.
If they're built correctly, they're awful.
Before the bridge is done,
maybe you could take it.
Are you talking about Anderson
on the two on one?
Yes. What the up?
Are you doing?
Standing there?
Because way to go.
You did that very well.
And it's clear that Markstrom
has saying, okay,
Anderson's taking the passaway.
I just have to deal with the shot.
He comes out in challenges,
and then it's a yawning cage
at the back door for what it?
Don't mean.
It's amazing.
These kids have no clue.
And it's not Anderson specifically.
How many times it was the door off a few times this year?
Two on well,
the way to stand there.
You're standing in the middle of the ice.
Take one of them away,
which is?
One or the other.
And for time,
eternity,
it's always but let the goalie have the shot.
Never let a pass through the slot.
Okay.
We can do that.
Apparently we can't.
All of a sudden,
in the new age of hockey,
we can't.
I feel like there was lots of backdoor tapins in your era too.
It's just when they play it bad, it looks really bad.
Like we've seen guys lie down and make some great guys this year.
Honestly, I don't.
Your kids probably aren't there yet.
And my oldest is just getting there.
They don't teach these bastards any of that stuff.
They don't teach them.
Bastards.
Get the puck on your stick and put.
We're going to have tuck punch.
Or what is puck touches.
Touches.
Touches.
You've got to touch it.
You've got to have puck touches on the practice.
Puck, touch, touch, touch, shut up.
They're the defense.
They're not going to have the stick or a puck on their stick for the whole game, nor should they.
There's only a couple of cars.
That was a rough sequence, early second.
You've already got, if I'm recalling which one, you got Hannafin in on the pinch.
And then Tafoli's got the puck, and he just sends it back blindly to the point where
Hanifin is not.
And Domi picks it up and then it's the two on one.
And like you say, Anderson just kind of puts a stick flat, the blade on the ice,
and hopes that it hits it, or I don't know.
Could have played it better.
I think we all agree.
It could have played it better.
But again, if you're going to sit here, Rivas, Anderson, you've been pretty good.
Very quickly, I do want to give you my highlight of the night.
I don't know if we have it, if it's a sponsor or whatever, but my highlight of the night.
Came from Bontan Meets.
That's okay.
Bonton Meets provided my highlight of the night.
Now, you, it was some time.
time ago that you shared your photos of what happened. Last night was finally my night. When we were
here in studio, we gave, uh, Rhett the little dig. Oh, look what showed up is from Bontan. We had the
packages of the tomahawks. There's the seven, the seven, uh, rib prime rib roast. And there's you.
Oh, the tangleloins. Well, last night, I finally got to because I knew when I was, uh, when we got those,
I wasn't going to be able to prepare them in time.
Last night,
three tomahawks.
That is not fair.
Started on the grill,
brought them in,
nice little roasting in the oven.
Wow.
That just keeps the juices in there a little longer.
Is that what the oven does?
Well,
you're not going to burn the outside
and then have it like burnt on the outside
and raw on the inside.
It just allows you to kind of...
Wow.
My kid is, so I take and you're cutting it up.
to put on the platter.
And I said to my kid, I'm like, hey,
take, go ahead, give it a taste.
He's like, oh my God.
Oh my God.
Oh my God.
He said like three times.
This is going to sound like, oh, you're just,
you're pandering to it.
Those three things you see there.
And retro, they are the best stakes I have ever made at home.
I don't know.
I'm sure in my life I've had a great.
steak at a restaurant at a steakhouse or whatever and that's fine. But as far as me at the controls
at home, I don't know that I've made a better. And again, if it's like if you're driving a Ferrari,
I don't know that I've ever driven faster. That was my best driving I've ever done. Best driving I've
ever done. Should have seen my hands at 10 and 2. So might be the car, dummy. Some of it might have to do.
Hey, fat boy, it's the car. With the product at hand. But yeah, yeah, I don't know that I've ever,
I've ever done better.
I'm nauseous. Those looks. Those looks so good.
I'm nauseous.
Those are, oh, just phenomenal.
And they're all gone. You cleaned them up.
Oh, come on. Yeah.
Yeah. And they started that thick.
I'm trying to. That's like a two inch kind of a thing.
We talk, oh, you guys are just, listen.
Do we lie to you? If anything, this show us.
The three of us are pretty honest guys.
We'll tell you when things are shit.
and we'll tell you when things are good.
Bontan, it doesn't get better.
If you've got a special occasion
or you want to do something like that,
where you do it.
Also, those tomahawks,
you could use them in self-defense
if someone breaks into your home
because they're freaking monsters.
Yeah.
Also, you drink a whole whack of wine with those.
And then you have sword fights.
It's awesome.
Do you?
Are you talking about it with your cock?
Who are you sword?
Oh, geez.
Anyway.
There you have it.
That's Bontan meat market. Greg Keller. He is the best of the best. They started 1921, and all they continue to do is just treat people right, treat them like family, and provide the best products that you're going to find.
I'll say hi today for you. Yeah, you're going up there, huh?
Good to take care of the boys at Station 5. They were helping out a little bit on a top secret project. So say thank you with some potato salt.
So back to last night, and I said earlier, we're at the halfway point.
41 games in 19, 14, and 8.
Is their record, by now you feel like your record is what you are?
Retro, are they 19, 14, and 8?
I don't know where that puts you, it's, they're in the,
Wild Cards, puts in the wild card.
I think so.
Not but with a ton of room, but.
I think they're a 40 win team.
Right?
Just over, yeah.
I think that's a 38 win team would be the last team.
they played half the season exactly
I mean I think they'll
there's they can be better than the second half
but it's not crazy to say they're a
561 points percentage team yeah they are
yes that's exactly what I'm getting at
is that sort of percentage wise
I think the points I think they will get to the playoffs
which I wasn't convinced of earlier
but remember like yeah you're going to have some games
against Chicago and that
Pacific teams that are terrible
but there's also going to be a lot
of battle teams that are in the same spot you're in looking to try and get in for the second half
of the season.
This is a really tough stretch they got.
They got nine games to the All-Star break, and it's a big break.
They were going to do a World Cup or whatever.
They keep canceling those.
You know the rest of the road trip two against St. Louis.
That's a deep team missing some guys, but they're right behind the flames in wildcard
standings.
Two wins, they can get past the flames.
They'll be coming at Calgary Hard.
Dallas looks like the cream of the central right now.
if it's not Winnipeg, with Colorado, obviously, limping.
Then you go to Nashville, that's never easy in that building.
Colorado, Tampa at home.
And then you've got three more to get to the All-Star break,
including a Seattle game in Seattle the night after you play at home in Calgary.
So that's a tight turn, travel back-to-back.
Nine games, 18 points between now and the All-Star break.
So if they're a 5-61 team, they come out with 10 or 11.
So do they have a better second half than first?
I think they will.
The harder part of the schedule is the first half
in terms of the caliber of their opponents.
We're awfully far in to still kind of be.
They could be better.
I'm not sure what they just.
Maybe that's all teams.
If it starts to click,
I just don't see them going on an eight-game win streak.
Be nice, wouldn't it?
No, this schedule, though.
Yeah, I just don't see it.
They've got into the, you know,
the nitty-gritty of the season.
teams are going to be desperate for points too.
Yeah, there'll be a few tap-in games where you should win, but you know how those go.
You get up for those other games and all of a sudden you got San Jose a day or two out and
you kind of take your foot off the gas and all of a sudden you're in a Chicago situation where you give
up a point.
The good news is most of their tough travels done.
They've played, I think, almost all of their games in the Eastern Time Zone.
So that's okay.
The big long road trips have been done.
Look, they haven't been impressive.
They really haven't.
Everyone's wanted more.
This was a lot of people's sexy pick to win the Pacific
or have a deep run this year.
But you have to take care of business.
And they kind of have and kind of haven't.
They certainly didn't last night.
They did in that seven games in a row against divisional teams.
They pick up, what, 13 or 11 and 14 points.
That was good.
So it's a lot of mixed bag this year, fellas.
It is a lot of mixed bag.
And the scariest part, I think, if you're a Flames fan,
is you don't want to be where you are right now.
No.
Like, I think Colorado puts a push on to get in.
But you don't want to be a wild card squad.
Like, we had enough of Dallas last year.
No thanks.
Like you want to second or third.
You don't want to go to Vegas or Dallas.
Those are two places you don't want to go.
No.
Now, the good news is that they're in a division where no one's running away.
Yes, Seattle's been good.
We're kind of waiting for them to come back to Earth.
They've done a good job of not coming back to Earth.
I don't really believe in LA's net mining.
They're riding Phoenix co-play right now.
Edmonton's looked awful, despite Connor McDavid going to, you know,
easily eclipse 150 points.
There's still a pathway to home ice.
That's got to be what feels like a best case scenario right now, too, in the Pacific.
And that's why those points against last night, against Chicago,
are like, yeah, you can overlook it, but that might be the difference.
I think you make the playoffs, but that might be the difference between home ice and not home ice.
You don't want Emmetton.
Not either. God.
No.
You do, but you don't.
Who has been the most pleasant surprise through 41?
I would say it has to be Rzeetia just because we didn't think he'd necessarily had a spot on the team.
And he's definitely faded.
But I think you look at his common linemates, and that's changed dramatically too.
If you swap him and Luch, I think he still looks a lot better.
I think it's a nod to Zedorov, who might have a second consecutive career year.
And Rasmus Anderson has started to look like.
a power play quarterback.
We knew he was a top pairing guy,
but almost flirting with a, yeah,
I'm a number one type season,
and that's impressive.
Retro?
Exact same.
I was working my way through the list there,
and I was like,
well, Anderson's been good,
and he looks just,
he just looks like I'm going to slot in
for the next decade and just play the piss out of, right?
Okay, we've got a 25-minute defense one.
Okay.
Yeah, and he's going to score 15.
Love it.
Zadorov's interesting for sure.
I think we talked about it last week.
I've taken, yeah.
I'm taking shots at him, but actually you look at his game.
I think the flames are in big trouble if Zadorov's not in their lineup.
He scored a bunch, and we just talked about it.
His partner is the slowest player on the night.
So if you could upgrade a pair for him, he might look even better.
Talking to Truliving after that Islander game the other night,
he said we want him to shoot more because he scored in that Islander game.
What was that goals in three straight?
Yeah.
It's like there's a skill.
It was close too.
It's tough because there's a skill level there that you want him to kind of,
of utilize but at the same time one of the number one things they tried to do when he came in was
let's just get all of the circus shit out of your game just settle down settle down play within your
game just don't don't get crazy out there because he was it was you play playing for a bad
Chicago team and Colorado wasn't very good when he was there and Buffalo wasn't very good so
you're trying to do what am I am I the leader am I defense of my offense so just play defense
son don't well and it's you remember free agency he was gone right
free agent, he's going to leave.
He fell in their lap.
When Good Branson got all the dough and the market kind of dried up for Zadora of it,
it was like, oh, not only you'll be able to keep this guy,
they kept them on a bit of a song for, I think the league looked at that third pair
that had such a great year, the two of them and sort of, I guess, doled out a lot of credit
to Good Branson and rightfully so, but the other half had a really good year too.
And I know he's having the better year this year.
It's not the guy in Columbus.
Who's the biggest disappointment?
Huberto, Markstrom.
It sucks, but it's true.
It's true, yeah.
I mean, I don't know how you argue it.
Huberto hasn't.
Manjipani, you could add.
Yeah, man, Japan, he's got to be in there for sure.
That's not enough.
I'm not actually surprised that he fell back.
I don't think I expected him to drop that much.
Seven goals halfway through is probably not where I did.
But I didn't.
Nick's maybe think he'd have as big a year as last year.
Now, if we said, okay, it's halfway, he's got seven.
I'm going to set the line at 15 and a half for the season.
You take it over or under?
God, I hope it's over.
No, I just mean if you had to make a bet.
It has to be over.
Well, I'll take the over.
So if he gets 17 goals, I'm not really content.
No.
If he got to 20 right now, that'd be a really nice achievement,
given how sluggish it's been.
And that would have been a weird thing to say in the offseason.
He needs 14 in the second half.
He needs to double his goal output in the second half.
Imagine if this is the year he has last year in the contract year.
Not 30.
He's coming in at three something, not five and almost six.
Right.
The Hubert O is tough.
It's whether it's on fair, it takes time.
They're with the conversations coming into the year.
They might be better this year than they were last year.
Is this team better than it was?
And the answer is no, they're not.
Or at least they're not to this point or they don't score.
but for Hubert O to have eight goals,
he has fewer points than Cadry to Foley,
Lindholm and Rasmus Anderson.
This was not what fans thought,
and I guarantee you this is not what
Trouivin thought he was getting when he signed him
to that extension before he played.
You want another guarantee?
The line meets he has now,
that's not the line they start a playoff series with
if they get there.
They're still looking for his best linemates.
They don't have the best for Huberto yet.
Isn't that frustrating?
Go ahead, Randolph.
I think I know where you're going.
I set it off the air yesterday to pinder about
and not to create controversy,
but there's a guy that's your number one score
that probably isn't happy with the layout of this team.
I don't think Lindholm wants Godrow gone and Kachuk gone.
I don't think he's, I mean, Daryl alluded to it.
We've got to play with somebody likes or something late.
Like it's been an off.
And when Cadre scored yesterday on the power play,
maybe it's Lindholm,
but there wasn't over exuberance in high five and cadre.
And yes, that's awesome.
Way to go.
Love you kind of thing.
Now, I could totally be overjudging.
And it's kind of a silly thing to even comment on perhaps.
But I don't think he's played as good.
He's naturally good,
but I don't think he's played with as much passion
and his excitement as past years.
For whatever reason, I don't know.
But, and you don't, like I said,
he still does a lot of things.
Every team would want him.
He does things well.
He plays in all situations.
But he doesn't look as invested as years past,
in my opinion.
And he's having less fun than last year.
I'd understand why.
He scored four.
He calls last year and flirted with a hundred points.
I was going to say,
you look at it,
I guess it's a disappointment,
but that he has 37,
points in 40 games.
For a team that's having a hard time with offense, he's nearly a point per game.
He's been good.
Pretty good.
I don't want to alert anyone, but like next year is the last year of his deal.
I know.
Players got all kinds of leverage starting this summer.
And I, how does this team slot without him?
Hey, listen, guys don't want to leave Calgary.
Don't worry about it.
That's right.
It's Stockholm West, Dean.
I don't know what you're talking about.
Don't sweat it.
I think we already kind of talked.
about what are maybe what's a fair expectation for improvement, a marginally better second
half. You can go individually or for the team. I don't think anybody thinks they're winning
the division. You said home ice feels like a stretch, partly because I think that,
it's best case, right? I don't know that LA or Seattle are necessarily Fugazi. I think there's
some legitimacy to what they're doing. What? Did you hear what we said on show yesterday about
top scoring goals per game teams to the top three,
take a guess at who's the top scoring teams in the league.
And I'm talking about percentage, goals per game.
Yeah, just straight goals per game.
Well, I would probably, Matt, you'd revert back to the old favorites,
but I know it's not.
It's not Colorado.
It's not Tampa.
Is it Boston?
Boston be up there.
Yeah.
Is it Vegas?
I'm going to pull it up just because we did it last night live on the show,
but I want to get you the whole list,
not just the one that popped out at us.
Your goals for per game,
tops in the entire league at four goals a game.
Buffalo.
Boston 2 at 3.85.
Number three, Seattle.
Like, I'm shocked by those.
Not Boston.
Edmonton at 4, yes, of course.
Five Dallas, that makes sense.
Tampa at 6, Toronto 7, New Jersey.
We're all well aware of their filling in at 8.
That all makes sense.
And the thing with Seattle, like, I don't want to discredit what they've done because I think that's a good team.
But for the first half of the year, how many times do they get a backup, not a starter?
Or a team coming in thinking, this is not a playoff team we're playing tonight.
They've clearly proven they deserve more respect than that.
But they're going to be played harder in the second half than they have in the first.
They're not going to catch people by surprise.
The standings, like, you are you are at this point.
Right now they're flirting with home ice in the playoffs.
People are going to bring their best against Seattle where maybe, you know, you're not.
You kind of treated it like a night in Chicago like the flames did last night.
The one red flag that you see with the L.A. Kings and I talked about,
of the teams that are today, a playoff team in the West,
they are the only team that is a minus in goals for and against.
Red flag and goaltending.
Right?
It's hard to win.
It's rare to make the playoffs in that situation.
And it's hard to do any kind of down.
LA's bottom 11 in goals against per game.
So that's bottom third-ish of the league in terms of goals against.
that's if there's anyone fallen, I pick them before Seattle.
Most games played 43.
You know, Seattle's got 38.
They got five games in hand on it.
Yeah, Seattle's probably your two seat if you go by points percentage, right?
Last one, then we'll move on because we've got the Pinder report to get to.
And I guess it's not just because we're at the halfway point, but sitting through 41 games,
do you feel like you'd be urging Brad for Living to go out and make a move to help right now?
or do you want to wait closer?
I think it's March 3rd is the deadline.
Do you just pump the brakes
and I need to know more about this team?
Yep.
Even though they need help now, but what do you?
Well, I just wish, it doesn't feel like the coach and GM are on the same page.
I think the GM would love to get a look at some of his skill players in the A
in top six roles with the big club.
And I don't think the coach wants to do that.
You guys talked about it on an after burner and I get both sides, I guess.
Jacob Pellci gets called up.
You go to Chicago.
It's a bottom of the league team.
I'll get them in.
Get a little boost.
You know, you want to have him practice with the team.
When you're injured, you practice, get a full practice before you play.
I'm guessing if you're a kid.
But man, he's had so much ice and practice time.
He's been at the dome.
If you wanted to see him practice, he's right there.
You've seen a skate.
Does it not turn into a situation with the flames where they're so tight to being in
and out of the playoffs that it only gets tougher?
Like if this is the tight rope, they're going to walk going forward into the playoffs,
well, how do you just?
I can't put a kid in there.
I don't know what I'm going to get.
It's like having the gold tender.
I have to play Markstrom.
We're too tight.
I can't afford.
I can't come April,
be out of the playoffs and look at myself in the mirror and go,
well,
I didn't play Markstrom in that game and we lost and there's two points.
And that was a difference.
That was a soft landing spot for Peltier,
wasn't it?
That was the softest spot you could have.
And again,
if you're just going to put them on the fourth line
with Lewis and Zahorna,
I don't really care anyway.
It's just a complete way as to why you can call them up.
Talked about it once already coming up in a couple weeks time up in Jasper.
It's the 2023 Jasper Pond Hockey Tournament at the beautiful Jasper Park Lodge.
We will be there.
We've got a Friday night hot stove with Frank Saravalley who's coming in from Philadelphia,

We'll get to the Pinder Report, a presentation of Village, Hawn, that new CRV hybrid.
it's just sitting up there waiting for you.
Just sitting purring and not using gas because it's a hybrid.
You don't even hear it.
It's just dead silent?
That's right.
What are we supposed to be listening to?
Can you start it?
Is it on?
It's on.
Village Honda stop in road tested today.
76603, 110thav Northwest, and VillageHonda.com.
It's the Pinder Report.
All right.
We go to Chicago last night.
Start with the Calgary Flames, opening a five-game road trip.
Have you ever been assessed a five-minute major for fighting rent when your gloves
never came off. It happened to Michael Stone last night. Poor guy. Just trying to protect his goalie.
No, no goal. So there's Stone chatting with the goalie. Oh no. Hey, hey, hey, hey, whoa now. Hey, whoa now. Hey, whoa now.
You, sir. You sir, please. Oh, hey, oh, geez. Oh, no. You know what McCabe's got? He's got a be in his bonnet right there.
You know, McCabe has. He's got an ejection button for those mitts. They flew off. So their stone gets
assessed a five-minute major, gloves on the whole time. Got screwed, Red. Got screwed. Let
that gloves are still on no you take the major i'll take it for the stats absolutely yeah i could have
taken a power play if he gets five and he gets two that would have been all better for anyway the
the fight we wanted though wasn't stone mccabe oh stone throws him much i don't really remember
much about him funny lover but how about a middleweight tilt domi dillan dubey it almost
happened stupid reps look at this oh a little bit dirty little dirty little dirty dillon 30 dirty dirty dillin 30
Dirty Dubei, 30, dupe.
Oh, then there we go.
Ress, get out of there.
Oh.
Stinking zebras.
Tell you what, you talked about it earlier.
I think you talked about an afterburner last night
with Domi impending UFA last night.
Goal, assist, standing up for his teammate,
was part of their best line by far.
Oh, that line's the only line.
It's really good.
He'd be a decent ad for somebody at the deadline.
I mean, he's a good hockey player.
How he meshes in a room, I think is the only question mark.
I don't think this guy signs one year three million dollar deals if he's beloved.
You know what I mean?
Well, I don't.
Anybody that signs a one year deals?
Yeah, he didn't have to deal with the worst team in the league.
Yeah, they're both rentals that have some off-ice fit in the room issues.
Anyway, prove me wrong.
Ryan Pike asked the question after the game last night.
It's a good hypothetical.
I think it was actually this morning.
Peltje's here.
If you were going to get him in and not just feed him top league in the world popcorn,
Horn, where would you place the first rounder of the Calgary Flames,
who is floated with a point per game over his HL career,
like a really, really good HL career?
I'd move Manjapani to the second line and have him play with Backland.
And then it would be luched down to the fourth line.
That's right.
It's kind of where I put him.
The other spot you could do it is put him right there with Huberto and Cadry.
Or, you know, Zahorn and Lewis.
Kill me.
Are they the same?
Could he play with Ruzitschka and Zahornah?
Maybe, but then you're going to have to put a vet in the rafters,
and I don't know.
Is they all going to put Lewis or Luce each up there?
Not Lewis.
Lewis kills penalties, can play center and wing.
Luch is riding high.
Those guys all have matching jewelry, remember?
They do have matching jewelry.
They all in the same club, yeah.
I wonder if that's...
Doesn't hurt.
Maybe a bit of a plus when you're one of those guys.
Never mind when Brett Ritchie gets healthy.
Anyway, it's nice to dream on him, actually.
with some top six guys, but we shall see.
NHL, we looked at the standings earlier today.
Like the Bruins are just absolutely running away with this league this year, right?
Remember that they're hurt.
This is the year they'll, they are vulnerable.
We talked about, I looked, I saw it this morning.
No.
The Leafs are having an unbelievable season.
Tremendous year.
Second in the division.
Bruins are 11 up on the Leafs.
Yeah, they're kidding.
So here's, if you want to know how it's going,
if you want to how it's going for the Bruins,
Here's last night in Anaheim.
Last game of the week on the schedule.
Everyone's in sleep on a Sunday night.
The Bruins are still wide awake.
And watch, they put the perfection line back together
because Debraska's hurt.
So it's Pasternak, Bergeron, and Marchand.
Just watch the magic.
It's unbelievable.
So there we are.
Off a skate into the air.
Batted forward.
Caught.
Maybe high stick.
Spinning around.
Flops it over.
Right to the slot.
Goal.
Good night, sweet prince.
That's actually the sabers, not the duck.
Excuse me.
Yeah.
That's just, it's just circling.
stuff. All you need is the
Colitopee's music in the background.
They have 68 points
in their first 40 games.
That's the second
all time. Second best
half for second best to 40
in the first 40 games of all
time. It was the 1929
and 30 Bruins. Right.
That had more points. I remember that crew.
So good.
Mugsy chin face was real good that year.
32, 4 and 4. Yeah. How do you feel
the Leafs are 25?
nine and seven and 11 points back in the division.
Just got to want it more, boys. Come on.
This isn't related to Chicago, but it is somehow related to Chicago.
Here's Connor Bedard's return to the WHL last night.
He's back from World Juniors.
Maybe he's tired carrying that gold medal around his neck.
Games don't matter now, right?
It's hard to get motivated.
Well, I don't know.
They're in a playoff spot.
It's the hitman.
Whoa.
Cheer up, dude.
Yeah.
He does continue to talk and mention that's a hatcher goal.
Oh, yeah.
He wasn't done.
He added a fourth goal and had two helpers for six points.
Welcome back Connor.
14 minutes ago in this third period.
They're opening extra seating on Feb one at the dome for the Pat's visit when Baderd theoretically plays against the hitman.
Trade deadlines tomorrow, but he's got a no move.
They're a playoff team.
It doesn't feel like there's much of a chance he gets moved.
He just says he has a no move?
That's correct.
His family moved to Regina.
He ain't going anywhere.
Are they the shits?
Like should it?
No, no, they're seventh in the West and they got,
Connor was gone for a month.
So they're better now than they were the last month.
And if you're like,
oh, why wouldn't they trade them?
Here's why you would want to trade them.
Look at the hall.
The Camloops Blazers handed to Everett for Owen Zelliger,
the Ducks defenseman.
Like, do you want to see a trade?
Look at this, Red.
Two players for four players.
And a first and a second and a fourth and a fourth and a first and a fifth.
and a first of a third
and a first of a second
and a pending sixth,
a conditional one.
It's like the NBA.
It's one of those things.
Four firsts.
Four firsts.
Yeah.
Two seconds.
Four players.
A fourth,
a fifth,
a third,
a sixth.
Jeez.
So that's why you might have
considered Baderd would get moved.
Because if this guy's getting that,
what the heck's Badaard getting you?
But if you've got Badaard,
shouldn't you be ramping up to win the,
I feel like something's going to,
Kind of wrong that they're seven seed.
Yeah, they should be running away with their division or like second because they missed
Badard for a month.
But either way.
Expect him here, Feb one.
Have I cursed that?
Did I just do that?
NFL, lots to get to.
There was no bigger stage emotionally and I guess nationally than the bills hosting the Patriots,
a Patriots win could get them into the playoffs.
The bill's still fighting for seating.
But more importantly, it was the first game back after the tragic Monday night happening where
we saw our Damar Han.
Handlin fall to the deck and need CPR for nine minutes.
He was sitting in his hospital bed with his parents watching the game,
tweeting out to teammates ahead of time, and here's where they started the game.
Rett was there.
Decided to defer after winning the toss.
And here's Hines on the runback, breaking a tackle and taking it past midfield.
And down the sideline, he goes.
This is Storybook.
An opening kickoff return for Tamar Hamlin.
And this place is absolutely going wild.
Oh, you just said this is a storybook.
This is almost fate.
I just can't believe what just happened.
Josh Allen, the same thing.
Six days removed from this incredible scene that we saw
with the bills player down in Cincinnati and now.
To her almost getting emotional.
Rhett was out having a smoke.
No, he was.
Did you, Rat, tell me you didn't miss that.
I was there and I was as happy as anyone else in that building.
Well, crazy.
So you saw that kickoff return.
What about this one?
Did you see this one?
The next kickoffer, because Hines was back again,
the acquisition from the Colts and had another ball that he, you know,
decided to run 101 yards with.
He says that he goes on to a win, which you might expect.
Baltimore short hand.
And here comes Hines again.
Oh, my goodness.
Can he do it twice?
Is this for real?
Even a little Dion strut to the end zone.
101 yards.
Look at a smile.
Yeah.
Oh, you're so happy, hey?
Oh, come on.
You're not human if that doesn't make you happy.
All that team's been through in the last six days.
Well, you saw it there on the scoreline.
That was New England.
They were a win and get in.
They were up by a field goal there.
And I heard you guys on Atferberg talking about it.
A little bit of speed wobble there.
Got to got a, don't need to win it.
Be nice to win it.
If we're going to win, it be nice to win it by a few here.
That was a turning point in that game.
They did end up winning it by a,
as for the two kickoff returns.
Been a while since, you know,
the bills had returned a pair against the Patriots.
Their last 227 games, they had two.
They had two yesterday.
So chalk it up to the best day kick returning.
Somebody tried to tell me it was three years.
Hang on, hang on.
We got it.
We got it.
So we'll get to that in just a moment because we have it.
And it's better than secondhand.
It's the quarterback of the team.
First, though, here's Nahim Hines.
After the game talking about the two kicks that he returned.
on Twitter saying these ones, you know who he was dedicating it to, right?
That was for you three.
That's DeMarne Handler's number.
You've been telling me I was going to break one since I've been here.
Happy we could give you two of them.
Your spirit was out there with the rest of us.
Oh, it's getting Misty in here.
And now, speaking of Misty, here's Allen, the quarterback, post game, trying to keep it together.
That's what Red was talking about.
A lot of threes coming up.
I can't remember a play that.
touched me like that, I don't think, in my life.
So it's probably number one.
It was just spiritual, man.
I just, I was going around, and just something I was going around my team saying, God's real.
Like, you can't, you can't draw that one up, write that one up any better.
And I was just told by Kevin Curran, it's been three years and three months.
Since the last kickoff return, so pretty cool.
who everyone's second favorite team
if they're not your first favorite right now
it's the buffalo bills ret
not hard to cheer for these guys is it fellows
you know who else was cheering for these guys
welcome the buffalo
friend of the show

There's, look at that big grizzly bear.
Hey, what a beauty.
How did you screw up?
He was, wow, I text him.
I said, I'm sitting here and he showed me where he was sitting and he needed special
tickets to get in, blah, blah, blah.
So he's like, I'll come meet you at the end of the game.
Get me in there.
Blah, and then I was over served.
Overserved.
Anyway, we'll connect you to too later.
I hope he comes next week.
I'll go, me and next.
Text him.
On a prowl.
Bill's royalty.
Love it.
Sunday.
Other action in the NHL,
there was better plays
but not better calls
than this Latin American call
of a lion's touchdown.
Let's go there.
Look at this fourth down.
Big play here.
Love the lion.
To eliminate the Packers,
my friends.
It's always funner in Spanish.
I don't know why.
DJ Shark,
do, do,
not a word.
DJ's shark,
do,
Jack.
Packers eliminated.
Aaron Rogers did not give his jersey up.
Dino.
Will he retire?
Will he change teams?
Will he ponder the endlessness
of time in the universe?
I was going to say there will be a lot of that for sure.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
You know who love that?
The Seattle Seahawks.
That got them into the playoffs with Gino Smith.
And they have the Broncos draft pick.
Are you kidding?
Oh, man.
How good is that?
So, yeah, there it is.
See?
It's the Lion Hawks.
Something from Mother of Dragons, Lord of the Dragons?
I don't know.
A little magical beast there.
Here's your playoff slate for next weekend, Friends.
Oh, my goodness.
I might have forgot to put the most amazing thing in the rundown.
Do we have the Russell Wilson chart that wrapped up?
We got that in there summer.
Okay, good.
We'll start, though, with here's your playoff games for next weekend.
So it starts Saturday, two games, Saturday.
We've got three on Sunday.
We've got a Monday nighter, wildcard weekend.
Six games.
Super wild card weekend.
Last year, it was super because they expanded the platform.
Yeah, yeah.
Anyway, it's looking rather lovely.
Chargers, by the way, are going to play in Jacksonville on Saturday night.
Duval County.
Well, you book tickets and hotel rooms, right?
Get to that in a moment.
Do we have the Russell Wilson?
It was one of the great battles of the season.
Russell passing touchdowns versus Russell's toilets in his mansion in Denver.
So can you lay the groundwork for this?
Well, it was, it was, uh, and it was, it was, it was, it was, it was,
found out publicly that Russell's new home after moving to Denver had 12 toilets.
And then he really didn't throw a lot of passing touchdowns.
And the question was, would he end up with more toilets or passing touchdowns?
You could maybe borrow one of Russes after the show you put on the stop.
Pretty show.
Pre show.
Russell did end up getting more passing touchdowns than toilets.
Week 17, he eclipsed it.
And then another couple yesterday.
So sadly, the toilets lose to Russell Wilson's passing touchdowns.
Cliff Kingsbury fired.
He was run today by the Arizona Cardinals.
The GM stepping aside.
It's a mess there.
He just signed an extension through 2027.
And yes, finally, there will not be a trip to Nashville this weekend.
The Flames and Preds were playing Monday.
Potentially Chargers Titans on Saturday or Sunday.
You're soft.
Just immediately after I booked hotels, it was a huge rally for the Jaguars.
Good night, sweet Prince.
That's your pin.
to report.
There you have it.
It is a presentation of Village Honda.
I don't even understand what,
what happened?
Well, there's your toilet.
There's the toiletometer, yeah.
That was week 17 where he passed it.
He added more or less.
Congratulations.
Took them all year.
Good for you, Russ.
Major tuddies.
So all the criticism this year balances out now.
Yeah, it's even.
Yeah.
There's your slate.
There it is.
Are you, are you,
are you, so what happened?
Well, okay.
So, if a bit of a neck there too, that guy.
Yeah, he's got a bit of a glit.
No, no, no. There's your downtown hotel in Nashville.
Cancelled.
I was going to leave on Friday, come back on Tuesday.
Flames Predators Monday.
You can't travel on Friday.
It's for the best, Ryan.
Village Honda, the all-new CRV hybrid has arrived.
It's there.
It's waiting for you.
Stop in, road tested today.
They have over 60 pre-owned units.
Access to over 300 more.
Why not?
Go to Village Honda.
your one-stop automotive destination in Calgary in the Northwest Automol
and online at village Honda.com.
You could go to Florida.
I mean, no, I look.
Come to Buffalo for, okay, but I'll come up.
The Chargers win, Buffalo wins, maybe they meet each other.
No one gives a rats about the charges.
Well, I do, that's my team.
Just abandon those bozo.
They're finally good again.
They got a quarterback.
They're idiots too.
They had everything wrapped up
and they Bosa and Williams got hurt.
Why are those guys on the field, you donkey?
Fellas, today is Monday,
and we told you last week
that every day of the week means something.
Every day matters.
Is that the case of the Mondays?
Want you to make it, make every day matter.
With Montana's.
That's right.
Montana's, barbecue and bar,
bringing back the viewing party.
Come on out.
The games are on.
The beer is cold.
and the food is smoked and barbecued to perfection in-house.
And what does Monday mean?
What's Monday?
Give it to me.
Half-priced chicken wings.
There you go.
Half-price wings.
You got to dine only.
But get there.
Watch whatever you want to watch.
What have got four games?
Four games in the NHL tonight.
Whatever you want to watch.
Just get out.
Get around your friends.
Get around people.
And have some wings at half off.
Don't be a dean.
Get out there and talk to your friends.
Leave your home.
The masters of barbecue and comfort food.
Fire grilled,
smoked in-house, sauced up, meaty, tender, always hearty and delicious, delightful.
Montana's barbecue and bar, and we're going at some point here in the next few weeks.
Rep day, please.
Just a heads up.
So, uh, be great to have you, Rhett.
Yeah.
You come as you are.
You don't worry about getting dressed up all fancy or worrying all of it.
You're welcome, Montana.
It's like you're home away from home.
Now that Rett's Chlamydia has cleared up, I think he's free to travel.
Positive.
be great to see you.
Looking at the menu now,
I would like to come and eat with you guys.
It's wall over two.
Half-price wings at Montana.
If he came back for like a week,
he'd put on 20 pounds.
The amount of like,
Bon Ton.
It'd be a good run.
You'd have to take them up to the Madrose.
We'd go down to Montana's.
It'd be all over.
Yeah, it'd be all right.
I can't wait.
NFL picks for Betway.
We took a shot on Friday,
week 18.
It's always sad in a way.
You've got playoff games, but...
No more Red Zone.
No more Red Zone.
Red Zone's the best.
Limited number of games to, you know,
bet on and lose my...
Anyway.
Anyway.
You've been doing that?
I already did okay this week.
Well, let's take a look.
On Friday, we threw it out there.
We kind of forgot all about Red.
We knew we'd be taking the bills
and where else he was going to go.
But, I mean, not too shabby.
Decent weekend here.
Let's get into it from Friday.
And I didn't even really want to...
make these picks.
Rhett had the,
had the Raiders.
A lot of points.
A lot of points against Kansas City.
Chiefs win it going away.
Pittsburgh and the Browns.
How about the Steelers?
Steelers finding away and then the Buffalo Bills.
Minus six and a half, as he saw there.
The third quarter, they were down by a field goal.
Turn it around, get it done.
A one and two weekend.
Very quick anecdote about the Steelers.
They traded Chase Claypool for a second rounder.
Miami lost their pick for tampering.
The 30-second pick in the tournament.
Traft is going to Pittsburgh for Claypool.
It's the first rounder.
Oh, well done.
So there you go.
Ret goes one and two, but the bills, right?
The bills never do you wrong.
Never.
Even if you don't cover, you're still happy.
It's still the right pick.
Every week.
You don't even know the spreads.
He's taking the bills.
Where do we want to go next?
Pender Boomer, boomer, pender, boomer, pender, boomer.
Fire it up.
Let's go.
You also had, well, okay, so we'll go here.
Oh, it's a unicorn.
We talked about the Titans.
It just felt like too.
many points six and a half too many and as you said they uh you were going they screwed you they did
okay by me uh Carolina plus three and a half they won outright against the saints and I didn't like it
but I think it was a 16 point victory for the Minnesota Vikings they cover that seven and a half so a rare
three and oh week for tubby over here and to pender's picks you were also on that Kansas city
Vegas game yeah I got spanked by the
Raiders. Cincinnati covered for me, which was very nice of them. Thank you very much. And then the Jets.
Couldn't beat Skyler Thompson, you donkeys. Well, you had said it was Bill's Dolphins.
Flacco or Skyley Thompson. There you go. So a one and two weekend. Betway, get it on your,
get the app on your phone, follow along. Makes it more exciting. To bet responsibly.
Ontario only. Ontario only.
The Betway bets of the day.
We're going to go.
Alex is screwed.
He's going to do it in the showroom.
I know.
We're pretty much right on it, sorry, Alex.
What's up for the rest of the day?
You've got the family, the kids back.
They've got to play catch up with all their hockey and get back to school and all that.
Do you guys go to school in the...
To have school in America?
We're sick of school.
Today was the first day back and we're maybe going to cancel for the rest of the year.
Yeah, like that year, you just took them to the keys instead of going to school.
Yeah.
I'm going to do a brisket and the air fryer.
Pressure cooker, air friar.
Pressure cook, then air fry?
He thinks it's the same thing.
This is the machine he bought it.
Yeah.
I'm going to pressure cook it for a couple hours.
Yeah, yeah.
And I'm going to air fry it just to crisp the outside.
I watched a video on it.
Somebody had a question.
It comes up about every three or four weeks on Ask Ret for Hope Street,
where you fall in for the Insta, the old Insta pot, the pressure cooker.
Don't have it.
But now I do.
Never used it.
So it's a two and one.
You've got a pressure cooker and it's an air fry all in one?
He was describing it.
I'm like, this is no one.
Emerald.
Yeah.
Dang.
That's right.
We got to go.
I don't know.
It's a good more.
It's going to fit in your...
It's not.
No, no, we got time.
Alex's got time.
It's no show.
Oh, really?
Yeah.
He says we got some time here.
Oh, goodness.
Okay.
I was worried about Alex.
Um, and what do you?
Because your wife and kids are still away.
Yeah.
It's a lot.
I'm too much rope a little bit.
I'm going up to Bontan's. I had a Greg today.
And then I got kid hockey practice.
The only thing keeping me sober is I got I got to skate with kids at 4,
415 today.
So you don't have kids playing at the practice.
I'm coach.
You're still going.
I love the kids of the best.
Keep you young dean.
That's why you're so old.
Kids are.
You never,
you never.
Yeah, I don't have kids or at any commitments.
That's right.
Yeah, yeah.
Kid hockey and then, yeah, we'll be back tomorrow.
I want to talk about Le Bleu.
Two and a row against the blues.
Now,
I thought Mondays were,
uh, what's that sport?
Curling.
I am curling tonight.
I thought,
we're back after the Christmas break.
We went two of our last three,
just absolutely streaking.
These fossils are going down.
I think tonight.
Congrats.
Not curling.
You should be.
Don't look at me like that.
I would like to see,
I'd like to see your draw weight.
I'd like to see your draw weight.
All right.
take a video for you yeah could you that'd be good sure yeah yeah get to see my bad shoes and pants sure
very snazzy top though okay that's probably good hey oh what are you doing you're boom you're not
doing anything hey uh could you get a little sleep is that something you can do for us please oh are you back
dude he was tweeting at 303 in the morning i just i can't i wake up and i'm like no no no yeah it's good
that the one thing that's maybe the worst for you is what you reach for when you wake up.
Like make sure you turn on that phone and get your brain on.
I had been up, trust me.
If I'm tweeting at 303, I've been up for plenty.
I've already thrown in the towel on trying to go back to sleep.
He's going to go to bed at five tonight and wake up at two again.
He's going to do it all over again.
What it was, I finally got back to sleep.
And then I had to get up and I felt like I was hit by hammer.
Dead and forgot the crawl in the hole.
No, there was something I was going to bring out.
not going to do it just because it's no no i don't want to do it we talked about it off uh off the show
on on friday it's just it's uh it's the thing i don't want to get into it kid sports oh they're fun
yeah kids sports are the best kids sports yeah don't do that it's just sports are not it's the people
not not not about having fun don't have it's not it's we're going to take things very seriously
we can't just let kids have funding don't fool yourself okay that's gonna do it we talk
I was named that.
There's a lot of idiots involved in kids' sports.
Yeah, I know.
We're going to talk about it.
No, we're not going to talk.
You're talking about it.
I'm not going to talk about it.
Have a good one, everyone.
We'll, uh, the Tuesday show.
Potato salad.
And you know what?
No, uh, Frank Saravelli plugging things up tomorrow.
He can't make it, apparently.
So he's probably training for our, uh, three-on-three tournament.
Oh, he's kind of dead to me now, eh?
Oh, yeah.
Say, hey, I've got to fly into Calgary.
You think we can, uh, go up?
Sure, of course.
Yeah, whatever.
Oh, I'm going through Edmonton now.
I'm going to go through Edmonton, and I'm playing for Oilers Nation.
And I'm on the ice three, four times a week.
And keep your head up, I think is what we say to that.
I don't know.
Something like that.
You need a guy.
You got to get a guy that can maybe intimidate a little.
If only we had a rugged XNHL defender.
We were some really freakishly long limbs.
Let's be realistic.
I would be made fun of.
People would be like, oh, you actually played.
You said intimidation, not performance.
You could intimidate.
Yep.
Get that mustache going for a week leading into it.
That's right.
Get the stash going.
Frost the tips again?
You'd be in fine for him.
See you tomorrow, buddies.
Have a good one.
See you.
Bye.
