So I don't know how it works now because we're in the podcast space. It's the digital space. We're on YouTube. We're all anywhere in the world you can listen now. And you always could. But right now it's not about where we are. Rats in Buffalo. I could be at home.

But do we even bring up the weather? Because where we are, it's quite a day outside. It's about our audience. But does that lake effect from Buffalo that we're getting here? Yeah, is that what it is? It's a six inches, right. Holy. We have quite a day on the go here in, uh, here in here in Calgary.

We are in Calgary. A shovel. A shovel. A spoiler alert. Took the kids to school, got back, had to shovel again. And it's the first, uh, it's the first big one of the year. So of course, everyone has completely forgotten how to drive, which is nice. So that's awesome. It, uh, took Prince's nine hours to get to work today.

Yeah. He left, he left last night after the second. second period. Yeah. Knew it was going to be rough. Still barely got here on time. Jeez. Dedicated.

So last week, was it? About a week ago, we were having conversations on this show about the Calgary Flames and how the season was going. And Red said there's nothing to talk about it. Too boring. Too boring and too good. They're winning all these games.

Everybody's playing great. Nothing to talk. about winning oh well right we got we got plenty to talk about today so calgary flames have lost back to back games blown leads in both games line change combos uh yesterday all three of the top three lines were were shuffled and moved around ladar in net and a really you can talk about edmonton that game it was tight it was a close hockey game the way that lead evaporated to one in the third little mistake this evaporated lead a little bit harder to take i would think if you're the calgary flames as they fall to the seattle cracking at the guys are extremists just just relax see that's why

they lost two in a row because they they're all went over the top of you're watching barn burner yeah yeah we've got the changing lines and all messing around just stick to what was working quit worrying about it when did you fall asleep last night. Let's get to the real story here. End of two. I made it to the end of two. They got this thing wrapped up. You know that I ain't so much. Is this news to you? I pushed through to the end of the second. I was that would have over hits. If he gets to the second admission, the over would have paid because he had so much food in the group chat and it was so early there. And then it's waiting around for the game. And he's like, should I sit in the recliner or on

the couch? It was trouble. it. I got to check that because you know what I wasn't getting the alerts and at one point I went into the group chat and then I saw there were a bunch of missed uh where should I sit this extremely comfortable couch or this recliner like you're done bud you're toast there's no way you're met to the end of this game that was a three and a half four pound sub for sure I ate last and then I actually called ordered the sub the guy's like what is this number you're from Calgary like yeah he's and then I called back because my kids like you didn't get any wings so I called back to add to the order and now I'm just the Calgary guy they know me there so they're pumped

oh then he did the math and I actually figured out then he did the math and I actually figured out who it was when I was gonna say he's like didn't you leave in around 03 our revenues dropped about 15% that you know what he said to me he said hey I was I was out drinking with you a couple times when you're playing here he told you that yeah when i picked up the sub he's like are you are you warner the old saber i'm like yeah he's like when did you come back and blah blah blah and then he's like yeah we used to go i remember drinking with you a few times downtown okay i'm sure someone has to remember ret clearly didn't okay and that's the thing you can imagine how many people in buffalo have that same story. Hey, I'm so and so. Remember the night we are at Blankety Blank and you were hammered and we were

hammered and yeah. Yep. Probably about half the population. How big's Buffalo? There's got to be millions of people who have that same tale. I'm sure that when they did a tribute to Razor when he first retired. And I think that was his line. He was still drinking at the time. And I think what he said was something along the lines of I've had half, I've had a beer. I think I've had a beer with half of you people and he's pointing to the crowd in the stadium now i'm going to have a beer with the rest of you that's pretty good line that's pretty good robert yeah so you had according to this you had a how how four pound three or four pounds sub three and some wings oh geez so are those

uh crown royal barbecue crown royal barbecue char pit wings charpit yeah see i think i thought it was sub crown royal and barbecue wings that's how i took that text i've been wow that's a crown royal that's a crown royal that's a crown royal bar having a hell of a night in buffalo so are those would you be proud would you serve those and say hey here's here's some buffalo wings if we came down to buffalo boys this is this is what buffalo wings are all around all about you'd faint for those wings really well i think the scale's messing us up because the wings are so we we think they know what size there and it makes the sub look small when in reality those are taradactyl wings and that subs a monster yeah scale so anyway the flames blow a lead a short-handed goal a power play that actually gained

i think more momentum for the crack and than it did for the flames power play one was awful last night no good top unit turnovers all over sloppy like that was a disgusting effort and you could see it that first power play they turn it over twice back to back to back. He's giving up two on one short-handed. Okay, this is. They turned the puck over all night. They were terrible.

It was gross. And look like they still, you had enough goals to win and you could have won it. But like, it's almost better they lost that thing because they were awful. And it's like they need to get punished. Darryl's going to have a captive audience now because they lost, hopefully, a more captive audience. But, you know, that's exactly the type of hockey. He has no interest in play. And it comes on.

heels of him talking about eight games and 14 days it's the beginning of a busy stretch we got to get off to a good start here. Mm-hmm. Awful first period. I had my had any of my notes when you think about before the season started, we talked about this big homestand and the tough opponents at the start. If you'd have said that they'll have three losses at this point of the season, I would not have guessed that one would be to the crack and the other would be to the same. That's why it's just disappointing. Yeah. It feels like, you know, maybe they didn't overlook them. It just happens to be a sloppy game, but the two non-contenders they've played, that's it. Buffalo and Seattle.

Like, come on. Gross. Turnovers. All night. I started writing them down. I said, I thought, I want to get Rett's perspective on these. And everyone was so egregious. There was almost nothing to say.

So, well, don't fall down. Yeah. Don't put the puck to the middle. Well, we lost them. Um, whatever you do, did you go to mute your mic and you turned your camera off or what happened? That's what happened. Yeah. That's what.

Just just careful. It's okay. Very careful. But yeah, honestly, the, uh, the one, the quote from Daryl after the game was great. He's was asked kind of what, what did you think about your, about your new lines? He said, oh, you know, fourth line was on for two for two and in the box for another. Yeah. You know.

Well, Rizigah tried to do too much. Yeah. It had a nice screen on the one goal, but yeah, they were on for two and in the box for another. And he said that he didn't mind the Luch-DeFoli-Lintom line, which was better than we thought it would be. But then again, they had the most egregious of the turnovers that led to the game winning goal. Yeah, I think he's that. If you weren't the back line, you sucked. I agree.

I text in the first, this is brutal. They kept turning the puck over in their own end. just like gross not getting it out clean it was like what are you doing not the zone time plays yeah because shots if you just if you just 10 seven shots in the first not indicative of the play the zone time was all seattle in that first period yeah it was not good it's like okay well you know they're going to have a better second because they're going to have a talking to and we've seen that this year where they've had bad periods have come back and played a better period after problem was they reverted back in the third

where and i know what's going on Well, the roof coming in. I was trying to move the light, but it's the wrong light that's shining on my fancy shades there. Yeah, they are fancy. It's a lot right now. What was I saying? Oh, okay. So I wanted to ask you about this.

You go through all of those goals. Susi comes in. He's got some open space on that left side. Wires a good shot. The geeky goal, fourth line Zedorov throws it to the middle. It's a two-on-one. Alexiak actually makes it pretty. good pass that geeky pretty good shot then it's sprung on the power play wire

wires it the yoni gourd after cadre short hand a breakaway turns it over at the blue line and then it's a four on one or whatever it is on noah hanaffin and mattie baneer scores it's five goals that's too many it's too too many too many too many that said where were you where would you assess dan vladar on the night because i thought thought he made some good saves in that first period while they were under siege. But at the same time, you needed six to win. Yeah, I don't like taking shots of D-Men because we can usually do no wrong. But I, even the, I mean, it's a nice pass to Sprong, but it shouldn't get across there.

And any dope worth his weight and gold knows that, what a terrible saying that was. But Hannafin can't let the pass go across either. I mean, Everly's coming down on that. It might be a three or one or four on, but it's really only a two on one because you're not going to drop it back because there's back checkers coming into the high slot area. So it's basically a two and one and it gets across.

And then it's it's two on one, 101, one hockey. Don't let the pass get across. Goalie's got the shooter. It's so easy for us. I mean, you played. So I defer to you on it.

But you always hear it. So what do you do? Well, take away the pass. give the goalie the shot and i watched because i did i watched that place did he do enough to take away the pass no was he trying to play the shot out enough and it got through yeah and tann have did a lot in the game and he'd made some nice save or plays lying down and i mean i thought he was really good defensively i was really impressed but actually one of the plays i was like that's like a goal for tannov i watched it he went down he walked a shot he got up he took it off the guy's stick they didn't

even get a shot on net that's a goal in chris tannib's world in my world he was awesome but he didn't block that pass on the power play or on the penalty kill seattle's power play so and and that was the play that needed to be made right you knew if it got to the backside that's a goal the goal he's not going to stop it he knew what was what was happening he just didn't didn't quite make the play and hanafin yeah he kind of goes down on that two-on-one but he doesn't do enough to stop it it's it goes right through him. You started on Vladar. Yeah, yeah.

And I just think so sloppy in front of them, no fun. But you kind of think, like, what did the elite goalies do? Well, they stopped one or two of those more. He's great. Decord makes that save on Lewis when it's four to two. If that goes five to and then remember right on the goal line, Luchich, I don't know how he didn't have the strength to push that puck over the line. Either one of those go in.

It's five, two, and you feel like, you feel like that's probably it. But Decord makes great saves on both. And then you make egregious mistakes. And they go in the back. I give Seattle credit, man. That's an improved team. Now, maybe that was just last night. But I said it yesterday, move it to seven now.

Seven games straight, they've scored three or more goals. That's their fourth goaltender. Marty Jones had a kid, so he's out both. the grubhauer's hurt grubauer and dregor out week to week or month to month well and again like they looked awful last year because they had the worst goal tending that the league is seen in like over a decade and that you can't win at all so everyone's like they're brutal but they were built to win to one and didn't get saves they were awful they've added a little more offense but like everyone's always like jaden schwartz you know clearly baneers as a ball player and like there's

some decent middle of the roster players there. Berkovsky's a very nice ad, but like, I wouldn't be surprised if they're like a bubbly team that doesn't get in, but is close. Yeah. That's where they should be. Like that's when we looked at that team after the draft, you're like,

you should have done better, but, you know, they're built to defend. Alexiak, Larson, like, they're going to, if they get goaltending, they're fine. They just didn't. It wasn't bad. It's the worst we'd seen in our lives. It's not, it's not a terrible back end. No.

You've got four decent, you know, decent guys there. And like you say, if you get some goaltending and they got great goaltending for that in that third period last night, I like them. And we talked, I brought them up two or three times yesterday. I just think, Maddie Baneers, that guy's a rookie. Well, and eventually Shane Wright's going to be a really good player too. Like, it's crazy. They're scratching them. Like, just send them back.

He didn't play a game in that pandemic season. Yeah. Like, it's not a normal circumstance. And I know we talked with the HL thing yesterday. today the more you look at it, the more it's like he hasn't played a lot of junior. Let him go. Like it's it's go dominate. Like there is no good for a guy his age to play six minutes and then get healthy. We saw the line combos change. We kind of kicked it around the other day and said, well, you know what? Be patient. It's 82 games. And then the lines changed that day at practice.

And I kind of thought that's, are you trying to wake up Lindholm and get. Give him Luchich and Tufo. What are you trying to do with his winger? Is there? Ubertoe? What are you trying to do? And they started. They went with those lines and they stuck with them all night.

And like bump shift after special teams is different. But yeah, they kept the lines. And as you said, Backlin, Coleman and Dubei, Dubet had a couple of good chances there too again. He's been close a number of times. But that was probably that was their best line. No doubt. Lindholm, Luchich and Tifoli.

Probably their second best line until. the huge errors. Like the Cadre giveaway and then the Luchich give away. That's instead of 4-2 it's 4-3 it's you know, you lose. I disagree. I didn't think that... I'll be on the special teams. I didn't think that Luchich and Lundholm was that good. Well, we thought they'd be awful and

to be fair, Lindholm 2 points, DeFoli 2 points. It's probably more a statement as to how off-Codry, Huberdo, and Madra Panny looked. Magic can't buy one right now. No. I got you I wasn't a statement about my statement wasn't about manjapan okay actually

it was about Lint home and Luchich and Tafoli I just yes they got a couple points at the end of the day but to me it felt like they're in their end a lot I thought I saw I'm sure I saw Luch turn it over on the wall a dozen times he had a tough night after a good start I thought as the game went on they struggled more and I feel like that's what's going to happen with no on if you're going to give them 18 minutes like

you got to go back and watch Pinder, I think you're overestimating how good their start was. Maybe. And look, they didn't have a good first period, so I don't want to say anyone had a great start. But I thought, like, their biggest mistakes came late. And yeah, Luch was solid and it has the shift where he hammers three guys. And then it's turnover city and losing battles at the line. You're like, oh, this is no good. See, the thing.

Clearly these dopes can't party in play. So the parties are gone for the rest of the year. Sorry. Was it the Halloween party? that's what it was. Rookies, they're a bunch of punks. They can't handle it. So if you can't.

A rookie party last night? Do they have any rookies for a rookie party? No, I'm not saying they're rookies of dealing with this sort of thing. There's some of us that could just go about our business and play professionally and just, you know, carry on. Some guys can't handle it. Oh, I don't feel good. So no more parties this year. Sorry.

You can't perform. I feel like there's got to be out there in the ether with the internet. being what it is. There's got to be some Buffalo Sports Talk archives or old, old radio talk radio here. I was down by the boards. They reeked like whiskey. Those boys are still drunk and it's embarrassing

But it's three weeks. He's got to get used to it. And they talked about it on the broadcast with Sarich

and Leslie at the intermission. Like this is a very different system than what Florida played entirely. That was the highest scoring team the cap era huberto was on you think darrell has anything like that here i love listening to him muttering waiting for you to stop talking so he can and i'm like let me finish the point before you i think i think you keep talking hoping that he'll just kind of no he's there i know he's waiting i just want to make sure he understands i'm saying tiny sample but it hasn't been i'm he doesn't look like a ten million dollar okay let him go four days ago we were all saying oh it's not a

Like, what? I think to your point, like that's his. somewhere he didn't expect to be. Practice is rolling right now over at the dome. Those lines as you see them are the same at practice this morning. And of note, Chris Tanna, not on the ice. So we'll see what, if that's just maintenance or something more, he's obviously come off an incredible offseason of surgery, rehab, all that.

And I think he's going to be one of those guys that probably gets a day here or there. You hope it's not serious. It's been incredibly durable for the two years. Yeah. Yes. In Vancouver never could play a full season. reason here. Didn't miss a game.

I don't think until the playoffs last year. What is Darrell doing with these lines? Because that's not going to work. Don't look like it. Lucci can't cannot be your second line left winger. Honestly, if you swap him and dube, it makes a little more sense, doesn't it? Give a little speed to Linnholm. Yeah.

They're missing a winger. Let's be honest. They just are. Every team has holes and that's where their hole is. They're missing a winger. It certainly looks like a hole. because it's it's good to say dube can move up there and he certainly could

but i like that other line like the if you have dubay backland and coleman has a line your third line you're pretty happy it was right so yep just get someone else tree i mean don't sit on your laurels man like you have a couple good moves in the offseason oh that's still out time it's easy let's coast to the playoffs here come on I wouldn't mind if they tried some kids.

He's played well. And you know what? Like there's, you're starting to see a little small area, smart plays that you're like, oh, geez, like he's feeling it. He's feeling good. Let him, while he's hot,

don't do it when he's not. And probably, and this is, there's no stat we can't bring up, there's nothing Alex has that he can put on the board. But this totally looks to me like a team that needs to get out of town.

This is what Rhett said. They need to switch up. They need a change. There needs to be something. but this is we're well into the season and they've had one road trip and it was to edmont they haven't left the province they're going to go 10 games weather is now crap and that makes a difference the It's frightful. And don't look now with the devil's lead their division and have not had many nights where they don't pepper the other team and defend decently in terms of shots against. Well, they picked up the droves. They can just get out of this at seven and three. It'd be great. But all of a sudden, these last two aren't looking as easy as maybe they.

Well, the predators have lost seven of eight. They got blown up in Edmonton last night. They're three, six and one. I think that that's the devil's. oddly enough look like they might be the pluckier of these two. Which is actually homestand. They're leading their division. Yeah. Plus Dougie's back. He's an old guy. He's going to score. I see it always do.

Dougie, Doug. I would like to think that the flames shouldn't be too concerned with the competition as they should be with just 100. Right. I feel like they're at that stage

of development where probably less emphasis on who they're playing against and more on, hey, don't turn it over or give away breakways or short-handed goals or blow third period leads. After last night, they're not going to be a lot of focus on the opposition. It's going to be like, here's all the areas we've been screwing up. Let's stop it. And you could tell with Daryl's post game last night, he was asked about Zedora of and he said,

well, you love that he drops the gloves there. Alexiak's a big guy. I'm paraphrasing, obviously, but you like that he tries to give them a kickstart there. but then he turns the puck over and it ends up in your net. And the comment he made, he was asked about the lines. Just did he like what he got out of them? What did he see out of his lines? And he talked about Hubertoe.

He says, Jonathan's got to speed his game up in a big way. So not that that's a huge shot fired, but that's what he's saying. And he was sort of reserving, everyone kept asking about Hubert, right? Like the first three weeks of the season. What about Huberto? And he's like, I don't want to talk about individuals. We're not doing it. I'm not doing this every day.

He's been fine. that was the first sort of public acknowledgement that things aren't going great. And I think I was talking to the Wolverine the other day. I said the one thing that's kind of helping Huberto kind of avoid big back is that they're winning. And that cadre line has been so good. They've essentially been the number one line.

If they weren't scoring at that clip, it wouldn't have taken more than two or three games. Well, and I think Uighurs somewhere in the middle. Like I don't think he's been dominant. I think there's a lot of times you're like, that's a little more risk reward than you'd like or I don't know that he's supposed to be doing that. But both of them talked about it's going to take time.

And I think the coach understands that. We mentioned this has to not to be, not to be sorry, but they haven't lived in snow. I'm not, you might laugh about it. But it's true, right? Not since junior. They have not driven. They've driven Ferraris to Fort Lauderdale and Miami.

That's what they're used to. They're not used to getting a pickup. Hawaiian shirt. What do you mean winter tires? What are you talking about? They're Canadians. They're Canadians. This isn't the Jamaican bombs.

How long to take you to get soft? I see what you're born in Sealed Beach. You go to Mexico for an afternoon and you're already fat catnets. So don't. Am I? Yes. Mr. Boomer.

So I'm not joking. It's easier to play on the ice than it is. outside, right? But my point is, they're used to playing hockey, too. So why do, oh, it's going to take a while for them to adjust to the new team and the ice? No, it's easier to adjust on the ice than it is to the off ice living. You players will let everybody off the luck all the time because it's snow and outside. Do I get the same benefit of the doubt?
