Always stinks, right?

You get excited in the games and you know it's coming to an end. And now you think, huh, okay, I guess there's no excuses for stuff on Sundays to stay away from the wife, from the kids. Oh, babe, babe, I got to work. It's a football. What am I going to be doing? But it all ended yesterday. The Super Bowl is in Kansas City.

Kansas City Chiefs pulled it off with a last, well, I guess I was going to say last second. and it may as well have been last second field. Jalen Hurts, not the Hail Mary deep, deep bomb threat as it turned out. Not from there. No. Not the 70 yards. He had whiffed on that one. We'll talk about our day because it was kind of established.

We talked about what we, Pinder and I were going to be doing for the big game yesterday. The Tamer, and the Wolverine. Look at that. There's Wolf. Hey. Zoom in a little. You can really get a sense of the people and the vibes in the room. It was jammed at Grey Eagle.

What do you see there? What do you see? Just pure pleasure and enjoyment right there. That's all that I can see. Pinder showed up in a CFL hat in a Calgary stampedeer jersey. It's a big game. So I didn't really, because we talked about it, so this is a, you know, this is kind of a dick move,

or are you trying to rile people out? Trolling? Usually the troll, if you went to the Grey Cup wearing an NFL jersey. Oh, yeah, blah, yeah, yeah. There was a fuse. CFL jerseys. There was a bunch of CFL fans around us. Yeah, there sure was. Boring! Anytime there was

a touchback. Boring! Yeah, there was a big time CFL guy behind us, so every time it was a touchback, he was complaining that if it was... Boring! How come they pay these guys millions of dollars? None of them have to return a kick. It's not to do anything. Boring! So then of course, Pinder's

got a stoke that fire. You know what? You're right. Those guys, what the hell? The CFL's got it right. man. They got it right. You need to, come on. Jesus Christ, here we go. And that was the tone of the day that coach sitting in behind us. It was a just a running, running commentary about how to, this was boring and how you got to, you're going too fast. The chiefs, the offense. They were moving too fast. Slow it down. You're going to slow it down. You're going to leave time of the clock, slow it down. Well, Andy Reid was listening. Yeah, he sure was. He was taking cues from the coach. So was I. It was right in my fucking ear. I couldn't help but listen to it.

But anyway, great day at the Griegel yesterday. I didn't know what to expect. I'd never been there for a big sporting event. And like, what, 45 minutes before kickoff? Rammed. The restaurant on the other side of the casino, the spillover area, rammed. And when you get that many people that are into a game and are at a casino and everyone's got the Travis Kelsey anytime touchdown bet.

Yeah. Like it gets rowdy. I had a blast. I was really impressed. And that it was not a typo, the $12 for wings. a pitcher. We made sure. And we gave away some prizes too. Look at this. Yeah, we had some prizes. Look at old santi pins here. Yeah, I got the Eagles hat giveaway there. There's Chiefs hat. Then we got a Mahomes jersey here. Is that a Flames, Mahomes jersey? No, did you see that,

though? Hey, look at that. Good vibes in there. Everyone's a winner at the Grey Eagle Resort and Casato. So up that guy that didn't hedge when he had the Chiefs at 3 to 1. should I hedge? Yes, you should hedge. Didn't hedge. Oh, you definitely should. I love the degenerate level of what the gambling, what betting. The sports gamblers, yes. We're sitting there before the game and everybody's revved up and these guys came and sat at our table.

Good guys. Yeah. And they had some money on it. They had dug in. They had like a spreadsheet. They had all their papers going and all this. The coin toss went tails and the guys like, yep, we're one for one. And then we were off to the race. the overhit for the anthem. And the one guy said, he was like, dude, dude, dude, listen. Like, what color dress is she going to be wearing? Like, what colors? Like red?

Is she going to be red? Might be yellow. Black. It's got to be black. The last year, snoop wore the yellow, because we had the yellow sneakers with soup. God, I don't know. I don't know. That was how it got very involved with the, uh, with the betting and getting ready for us.

But, um, before we get your thoughts in the game, what were you doing? Yeah, you didn't have a plan on Friday. was fighting a vicious hangover. So that was, most of the day was consumed by that, and that alone. And then we just went over to a friend's house and watched the first half. But 6.30 start, early wake up for kids, right? Out here.

So were you at the German beer hall Saturday? I do recall you saying post-saber's flames, your entourage, your brother and his crew. We're going to go to the Hoffen house or whatever. Well, the ramrods got here on Friday afternoon, and they went to the anchor bar, the original anchor bar for wings. And they got slightly into it. And then they found out that the tragically hip cover band was playing. Well, they picked up some tickets to that.

So they went to that. And then the beer house. And then I'm pretty sure they'd ever sobered up and went to the hockey game. And then they got, I don't even, they flew somewhere else after the game. So I did not join them at the Hofbra House. So I did go and watch the Strictly Hip, the hip cover band. There it is. Saturday night.

It was awesome. I was going to ask. What led to the hangover that lasted until kickoff yesterday, which was a, what, 6.30 p.m. Eastern time start? I would say the hangover still here. So, yeah, it was heavy. Good shift. Really heavy.

And so, too, the shoveler. It was all hands on deck Saturday, was it? Everyone was very excited. Great band played at our wedding. Really? Yeah. How about that? Yes.

Now, this band, because you, obviously, you stumbled upon them when you were a saber. Is that right? That local band playing the bar scene when I was down here. We got to be friends with them. We love the hip, so. and Buffalo is one of the few cities in the states that the hip got respected. Sure.

Right? They've always struggled down here. But yeah, they got quite big the cover band. They're playing in Vegas that one year we were out there and they've done a lot of shows out there. So they were at the wedding. They were good. They've always been friends.

And yeah, we, they played on Saturday night. They did the exact set that the hip played their last. show. Wow. And that was the kind of cool. I think that was coast to coast on the CBC when they did that last show, wasn't it? Or was that something else? Could have been. Yeah. Yeah. We knew it was going to be their last tour kind of thing. So the wedding, your wedding to the shoveler, where did you, you flew them all, you flew the band out to play your wedding? Was that here or was that in Sask? No, we, we, we got married on the beach in Tafino, but then there were family. There was, we, we, we got married on the beach in Tafino, but then there were family. issues at that time.

And so we had a big celebration wedding a year later in Buffalo. Nice. Oh, good. Did Brendan Morrison officiate your wedding in Tefino on the beach? Fly rod in one hand, buy one or the other. Should have stayed at his house.

We weren't buddies then. I don't know if we're buddies now. I still get the late invite to all the fishing. Yeah, I think you're buddies. You know what? He's so nice. I think everybody thinks they're buddies with Brandon Morrison, though. It's nice to everybody. I let him score, so he should be nice to me. You did let him score.

He was awfully generous of you. So, Chiefs win the Super Bowl, pretty good game. Really good game. You know, everyone's talking about the penalty near the end that ultimately didn't necessarily affect who won the game, definitely affected how the game was going to end. I was sitting there with you. Well, I killed the clock for the Eagles.

It was like this game that's been back and forth and it's been so exciting and tight and the leads have gone. is this how this is going to end? This is how it's going to end. They're just going to... Surrender yourself on the one yard line instead of going into the end up to drop it. Yeah, he's going to drop it the one.

It sucked that it had to end that way. Slow down! Yes. Do the Chiefs probably win? Yeah, sure, whatever. I didn't have a rooting interest one way or the other. I was just excited. It was an exciting game.

But it sucked. That's disappointing. And you can argue whether it's the right call or not. It's just frustrating that that type of thing happens all the time and you don't know when it is and isn't getting called. It didn't appear like that was very catchable to begin with. He wasn't catching that ball. Yeah.

Hard hitting football analysis. Were you still awake at that point, Red? You got nothing to say? I was watching, but I got, well, again, I don't have a rooting interest. I guess I was almost, I think I picked KC to win, so he was probably okay with it. What am I going to be outraged over a holding call? Sorry. Well, I think the world is.

There's a lot of people, the Chiefs fans are all right. I think a lot of people, certainly in Philly, they're upset about it. And I think a lot of people felt like it was a shitty way to end a pretty good football game. Great game, otherwise, though. Up until that point, it's a classic. Back and forth. Huge lead changes. Some big plays.

Think about that kick return late. You think about the fumble that hurts is only blemish in the day, really? And this will shock you that Pinder, true to form, kept ordering the pitcher and wing special and then just started discarding the wings. Handing out wings. As he said he was going to, now in fairness, if you say you're going to do it

and then you do it, it shouldn't be shocked. Can't be surprised by expected behavior. Yeah, I'll have another pitcher, please. And I just don't bother it with the wings. I do have to bring the wings. Cool,

bring the wings. Drop them at any table. I don't care. It's part of the thing. They have to, there's food with the, yeah, whatever. So the pitcher comes down.

Thank you. The winks gets out on the table. And there you go. Just reaches around, just runs up to whoever's sitting there. And here you go. Yeah, I don't want the wings. So, yeah, he and, uh, the nation truck had a sleep over front there.

The nation truck had a sleep over at the entrance. This is on the cameras. This is perfect. Yeah. Just a little marketing overnight. Responsible. Uh, I don't know ifrette saw this. Oh, this was our, so this was a conclusion to the night at the Grey Eagle.

I'm hoping this is the video, not a still. Hey, guys. Just calling it a night from the Grey Eagle Resort and Casino. I don't know where Pinder is. Finally lost him. But what a night. Awesome Super Bowl. night at the stage bar. Can't wait to get back here and do it again. Barnburner. We got lots of things

coming up in like the next day, week, month. Fly! He goes fly. Defense. Defense. Defeits. That's what going on, man. Yeah, that was one of those nights. It's weird. I don't recall that. There it is. Yeah, that's, uh, what's it like, being around Pinder a lot. That's it right there. That's it right there. And you had quite an odour going yourself from a Saturday. Wret wasn't the only one that apparently got into,

that cooked the goose on Saturday. Yeah, well, the Caesars took the edge off right away. That was a veteran move by the Wolverine early. Hammer a couple Cesar's, get back to sea level, and off to the races we went. Yeah, real good. So that's how we took in. You like good things happening to good people.

Everybody, Greg Keller from Bontan meets. You know, he worked so hard there before Christmas. I was he at the casino. I invited him, I said, you know, Greg, why don't you pop by? Remember he was doing all the turkeys. He had all that stuff. He couldn't take any time. Couldn't even go for lunch before Christmas.

I'm so slammed here at Bontan, Bon Ton, we got it all these turkeys. We've got to get everything done. He now was making up for it. I said to him, like, we're going to the Grey Eagle for the game on Sunday. Swing by. Should swing by. We'll make room at our table. It'd be great.

But he sent some photos to us to know he wasn't going to be able to make it. He had reservations at a place for the game. It was not the Grey Eagle. That's... Oh, geez. That's a decent setup. Yeah, I've seen that silhouette before that... What would you call that the...

I forget what he called, what the name is, but he was very excited. As you would be. It's kind of one of those things. You know, Christmas, you had to do like a hot weather Christmas? You watch a Super Bowl and a hot weather. Yeah, okay. It's pretty damn good right there. That's obviously Cabos.

Oh, baby. That is Cabo. Ho, decent. Los Cabos. So there you go. Holy. Oh, yeah. Probably like a perfect 28 degrees or something like that.

an early start for him on Saturday, too, with the Flames game. Yeah, that's right. He was, well, you know what? I think that was Travel Day, so he may not have seen it. Saturday was Travel Day, so he was already.

A perfect, like the very flamesy set we've had here. Yeah, it is. Real flamsy. Now, and you know what? Tomorrow, Valentine's Day? Why not cook dinner for your, You always say that, retro.

Yeah, a lot of people really felt like you hit all the right notes, Red, with your assessment of the flames and where they've been and where they're going and what they are and all of this. They then responded with one of their most lopsided victories of the season, which is kind of on brand. It is. We're kind of jinxy pants the one way for sure, which is why I'm not talking about the goalie. I'm not talking, you know, for tonight, doesn't even matter. It was interesting because they certainly looked like the team in Detroit early. The two nothing on three shots.

Yeah, it did look like that. You know who the starter was when you saw two on three. Yeah. Seven straight. Ooh. As they beat the Sabers in Buff, seven to two. That is a rare kick your feet up. performance from the flames.

Yes. Like they haven't, even when they were up big on Dallas, remember, what was it, 5-1, 6-1? It was all the way back to 6-5. Like, they have not had, you know, clear victories, margins of victory over two or three goals much at all this year. Everything's a one-go-game. Finally, a third period was not a white-knuckle ride.

So what the age out there? What the head? What was? They probably could have scored, they probably could have scored six goals in the first 12 minutes of that second period, too. They had four in the first eight. Wow. Then I think they missed on a two-on-oh.

Yeah, it was mangy-pani to do-be. It very easily could have had six in 10 minutes. Wild. This team troubles, they can't score. They don't look like they're having fun. Oh, no, never mind. That looked fun. We said that we hope they could turn it around like St. Louis, so do it again?

Yeah, sure. That's, it's Ottawa. See, the problem here is that Ottawa's limping in here, and it's like, oh, this should be easy. Anytime it looks like it could be a favorable thing for the flames, they get a little too... They're not really limping in, though. They lost Edmonton. They'd won four straight prior to that.

Well, they're wheeling out their third string goalie for his third ever NHL start. So that would be sort of more to the point. You ever tear both of your ACLs, right? MCLs, yeah. You ever tear them both at the same time? Sorry, not at the same time. Sorry, I apologize.

lika, loco, and put him in the other side. He was no good. Well, you might get that tonight in Ottawa with these new guys. Who knows, you might. So. How's our, uh, I also said, I also said last week that a, 12 or 1230 start for a Buffalo Sabres team that's been off for however long nine days in

between games was going to be tough. I think that probably had a little bit to do with that Saturday victory for the flames. Tate Thompson looked okay with his 35th, a laser to open the scoring. I mean, he almost shouldn't be allowed to do it. It's frigging dangerous. it is he ripped one i think it was in the second period past ten of face not really that close to his face but he ripped it he didn't know where it was going he was just shooting it as hard as possible and i'm like i'd love you chris but that one's going to sting if it gets you

dniss gilbert the buffaloan ret in front of his family in front of his family yeah did they show they're pumped they show the sweet the sweet erupted yes it's pretty good everyone in town is happy for Dennis Gilbert. Great family, great kid, apparently. I don't know that well, but everybody was very happy. Everyone in Buffalo talking about it. Junior Saber. So you don't need to bother going and spending any assets for a depth defenseman.

Well, I don't see, here's the thing. I don't know how good Luke Shannon is, but I also think he's got a lot of Gibranson vibes, doesn't he? Poor results, but a leader elsewhere. You bring him into a different environment. They've missed Good Branson a bit this year. And if he could play that role with Sodorov,

I'd be okay with it. I just think there's too much stone right now, and that feels like a shot on Michael Stone, but he's been a PTO guy for three years in a row. He's great as a seventh guy. He can sit for money. and come in and give you some decent minutes, but he's their five right now.

That's too much stone. I would rather keep my fourth round pick and pray for a Johnny Godreau in return than go get Shin. Yeah. And if you do, it's probably like if your fourth rounder hits, it takes four or five years, right?

I don't care. I would still rather have the upside than two months of shitty Luke Shin. You know, this coach is going to like him, though, and they're going to extend them. It's going to be the, oh, Darrell called me on the July 1st. Well, then extend him.

He's a tuner. I'm fine. That's fine. I don't know. The results don't look good, but it looks a lot of Eric Good Branson type stuff. And that's the only reason I think about it because that third pair. But what does a six? What is Luke Schen of five or a six?

And what does that do for your team? Like what are we trying to accomplish here? That's like Boom said, that's the piece that's going to help us get to the playoffs. No, I just think it's a, it's a low cost acquisition that would improve your roster. that's all. I don't see that. To me, fifth round is low cost. Third round, I mean, you're less than a 30% chance of hit. I understand you do this. You do this a lot. If it's the other way, it's like, well, you just want as many lottery. You just want tickets. You want tickets for the draw. And you just get in there. And then if it's the other way, so, well, it's a very low

percentage. I just, man, I, it's both true, right? But it's like, it's not like a second and a fifth for yarn croak. That's a very expensive price to pay for a bottom six forward, right? When we look back at that, this isn't that. Yeah, but I like that trade. And those trades were fine.

Yeah, but you had to, but at that point, you had a team that you considered or were thinking it was going to have a playoff run. Yeah. No, and this is all. He's could actually, you're going to pick up of Shen and you, I don't think Shen helps you get in the playoffs, even.

They have, I don't think Schenner's It's the difference between the playoffs or not? No. It's the rest of them. Of course it is. And they need to perform well between now and the deadline before you add anything. They've got eight games remaining before the deadline. And if you go three and five, you don't do it.

If you go six and two, now you might be second in the division, eyeballing home ice, because that's how bad and clumped together the Pacific is. Vegas just lost stone. Seattle's coming back to Earth. The Oilers have dropped some weird ones like Philly. Then go all in. I'm just saying, like, to shed a third or a fourth to me would make sense at that point. Not now.

But you're not improving your team. You're improving your third pair. And I think if you could see the value in Good Branson, that's... By how much. Well, what's the difference between Stoning Good Branson? The third pair is way better last year. No? Was it not noticeably better?

Everyone raved about how that pair was. You guys did. Yeah, but they also had... You also raved about the best top lines in the league. We also, and we also raved about how great Huberto was going to be in flames colors. It ain't happened. It doesn't,

just because you do it, doesn't make it, or you think it's going to happen, doesn't make it that way. Shen is not good brands. He may or may not fit in. Yeah. No,

and I don't know. I get the smoke, though. I get the reason they're connected to them. Smoke. And you know what? That's what it comes down to for me. It's less about a third for Shen.

It's about this team giving up a third. Yeah. for Shan. And I won't say like, oh, geez, you know, they, they went five, two and one trade your first. Like, fuck no. Make sure you sign Coronado this spring. Do not move one of your top prospects like Wolfe, Rzeri or Peltje. Do not, you know, move your second rounder. But beyond that, I'm like, well, these are like a fourth rounders. I have sandwiched five years, right? Let's revisit. Yeah. Let's see what happens here over the next. I could be in. If, go ahead.

A couple weeks, whatever it is now, a couple weeks before the March 3rd. Yeah. You want to go on a nice little run here? By all means. I could be persuaded into this. And I think that's probably how the team's approaching this. They expect to be better.
