Here we go. Barnburner, Monday. There's Pinder. Look at Retro. It's boomer. We're here in the tower, Chrysler Studios. Another snowy day here in Calgary. It's just, it's winter. We get it. Enough.
I feel for the shoveler. She really could be having a heyday. It's been just a bumper crop of snow this season. And the shoveler sitting in Buffalo looking at green grass. See what you've done? Unbelievable.
Selfish. I've taken away your happiness. Even more of it.
even more she's she's gonna be
I better not say out of shape but she's gonna be
watchy condition definitely
behave behave right
yeah how was uh now you were
I just got it I just got a stinky eye
you did eh you got the old stink eye yeah raised eyebrow now
because you two were you apart this weekend you were in Pennsylvania
yes
I thought the Pennsylvania, downtown Pittsburgh, PA.
I could have went and watched Vegas and St. Louis and chose not.
Ooh.
Geez.
Jaime likes swimming, so we couldn't go to the...
Yeah, there you go.
There you go.
Old Jaime.
Yeah, we got some snow.
It looks like it's going to snow for about a day here.
Sure.
Yeah, about a day.
I saw on, I didn't see you in person, but I saw on the social media as you went
tree shopping. Look at this. See, Rett's
picture in the background if you're on the YouTube's.
It's a red truck with a tree in the back.
So I literally just sent the
photo I'd take in of
a tree in the back of my red truck.
Yeah, Rett's got some new, because
he has, if you have not watched on the
YouTube, he has two photos
two photos behind him
on the wall. One of them has been
replaced with some Christmas
decoration. It says, Merry Christmas
and there is a red pickup with a
lovely spruce in the back.
I think that's just like you.
Ram 1500 sport for sure.
There you go.
Lifted with the rims.
And candy canes, two of them on your...
Olive tree.
Yeah.
Candy all.
On your cannabis plant over your shoulder.
There's more than two, but...
All right.
There's more than two, but whatever.
A couple.
I'm in the spirit, fellas.
I'm in the spirit.
It's good.
It's coming fast.
We've got to get ready.
We're deep into Bublae-Mari-Cary season at the,
the Tilly residence.
Nice.
Yeah.
You're not wrong.
I call it my house, but that'd be lying.
No, we, this weekend was big over at our place.
The seasonal nuts and bolts were made on Saturday.
And we made the Christmas bark yesterday.
I worry a little bit that it's a little early that we're going to have to be doing another
double batch.
Another round of this because it's not going to be here come third week of the month.
No, no, no.
You start early and then you can blame it on that.
that, well, it came out too early.
It's not my fault that I ate at all.
Yeah, that's perfected.
Oh, we weren't sure what are, you know,
we don't even have a recipe, got to figure it out.
But I wanted to mention,
speaking of food and Tower and all of that sort of thing,
Tower cries are studios where we are.
Here's our studios.
This week, over at Tower,
food bank donations, they're going to jam a ram.
They got a truck in the, of course,
I got a truck in the showroom.
You come down with food donations.
They are going to take it to the food bank.
You will be entered to win four tickets to the Calgary Roughneck season opener coming up on the weekend.
So there you go.
How about that?
They're always giving back, eh?
I like that jammer am.
For us, we make a big deal about it.
Hey, look at us.
We're doing this thing.
And they're like, yeah, that's great.
We're just like we're on a new charitable because the last one wrapped in.
Yeah, we just, we did something for this.
And then we did something for that.
Trying to help.
It's a game day.
Oh, get your helmet on.
Everyone.
The Arizona coyotes are in town.
discuss the Yotis.
Isn't that what you?
The Yotes, baby.
The Yotis are in town.
Yodie!
And we'll get into
just what they're all about here in a few moments.
And very quickly, you disturbingly tweeted
at the middle of the night that
another former flame is back in town today.
That's right. So A,
gets a fucking sleep and B, yes,
Yuselamaki's back today. Montage.
Sleep is preferable, boom, boom.
Sleep is preferable. Oh, I'm, yeah.
Focus on it. Trust me.
At 3.20 a.m.
Are you in a funk?
There's no one who would like me to have more sleep than me.
That's fair.
But are you trying anything different?
Are you just, you're the stubborn type like my mother who refuses to try and I'm going to power through this.
Haven't slept for 18 years, but eventually this routine will get me there.
Third decades of the charm.
I just got to stick with this.
Well, the problem is I have donkeys like you in my life.
And the recommendations I get is just have some weed.
Oh, yeah.
Just got to get high, man.
Just have some weed.
That's, that's, that I have not taken you guys up on that.
CBN, CBG.
To any extent.
So your, so your opinion on it would be, avoid the weed and let your body deteriorate with no.
No, it's not that.
A bit of a pretty good spirit.
I feel like I'm in pretty good spirits today.
I feel like a jovial mood.
Today I was worried when I saw the tweets it for you
No, I was just wondering if there was anything else
That I'd missed
Your lights
Yeah
I'm not wearing the blue blockers in bed yet
Is that what you need to do?
Some IVs and some air
Are you watching TV and on your phone
Before you go to sleep?
I'll bet you are
Oh
Guaranteed you are
Guaranteed you are
So put your blue blockers on at least
That light isn't messing up your brain
Okay.
Take a photo, please, if you do.
So weed and blue blockers.
Yes.
All righty.
Absolutely.
Your wife's going to walk in with the hell is going on in here.
What is going on?
Hey, goose.
What do you think is happening tonight?
So let's talk about the capitals and flames the other night.
It was a explosion, an offensive avalanche in the third period for the
The Calgary Flames.
And once they got the Macup in there?
Yeah.
What, do we know what happened?
I don't know.
Kemper's still day to day.
They're not sure on the,
probably goes Kemper out tonight and Lingren starts and against Eminton.
Well, Chuck Lindgren there had to come in in a hurry.
Chuckie.
Maybe, uh, maybe Kemper hurt himself with that big,
too hand swing.
I'm for sure with that Billy Smith hack.
You know, back in the Islander hey days.
I loved.
This was nasty.
How great was that?
Yeah, so here it comes.
Okay, so Toff gets a little whack.
Plunk.
Oh, gosh.
Like, if that doesn't hit shin, you know what, though?
That is a heavy, heavy cut.
That's flames coverage right there, though, because Tauf got him first.
He kind of catches him with an elbow in the head, and then he's coming with the stick,
because clearly, I guess he thought the shot was coming through.
And Kemper said, hey, Buster, not on my.
You'll be minding your P's and Q's, boy.
Thought on my crease.
5-2, the final.
A pair for Andrew
Mangapani.
Adam Rizekka,
a goal and two assists.
Michael Backland,
three helpers.
Roach, baby.
Roach.
Who?
Rootsich.
Rootsich.
Rochitska?
Rozitska.
Again, you're kind of skipping
over a big part of that word.
Fire away. Enlightenus.
Roos Ichka.
Roos eachka.
It's terrible.
It's worse than the wave.
Oh, boy, that was a serious foul.
It's like, okay, so you're penalty killing up by one goal.
Are you here to do the wave or here to watch hockey?
Because it's kind of some important hockey happening right now.
I don't want to go jinxie-pancing things, do you?
You know what?
My kid, we went to the Sabres game last.
night and he was like, you know, dad, these games are a lot of fun.
But under Pinder's rule, you're not supposed to the game to have fun.
You should be, you're there to watch hockey, damn it.
You sit your damn seat and you watch the game.
Don't be cheering, making extra noise and moving around.
There would be some who would probably say leaving,
leaving with eight minutes left to go to dutties and grab beers before it gets too busy.
Got to be out of hand.
That is maybe a knock as to not being a great fan.
So when they go out of,
When they go up, you know, three one or four one or five, two, wave your hearts out.
There's the only.
Wave your heart out.
You're the only person in the flames universe that it gives a damn about this at all.
You should have seen my mentions when the wave started on the penalty kill.
I'm not the only one, sir.
But fair enough.
Those are a bunch of fun people to be around.
See, I don't have the energy for this one.
I know.
And you know what?
This one I needed more sleep for.
It's very Walker fan handbook of me and I apologize, but it's just like, you bought tickets.
What are you here to do?
A little bit.
There'll be time for the wave if things go well.
Have the wave at the right time.
Can I change?
It's like Cotton eye Joe.
You don't do it right after the other team scores.
Cotton eye Joe.
There's one thing that can be shot to the moment.
I agree.
Cottonite Joe.
We're still doing sandstone already.
I'm going to give you guys a platform.
I'll even press mute on my microphone.
you guys carry on and tell me
how great my insight is
into these up and coming players
like Ms. Roo Zitska.
Yeah, so how is Alan Kwein doing?
I'll let you go for a bit here.
He's been great.
Well, and we've got some numbers on it.
Like he's actually, despite missing, what,
nine, ten games this year,
right up there for even strength scoring
on the season for the season
for the team.
To his credit,
and this was the thing
I know we kind of made fun of it last year
that he would get a game
and then...
My credit.
And then, well, to your credit.
And then Sutterby, well, he is
good, that's what we expect.
That's what we need him to do.
And that if he has a sub-partisan,
you can't be in the league
if you're not consistent
and straight upstairs.
I had it in my nose to talk about it
because I know about a week and a half ago,
we kind of,
I was the guy looks good.
And your thing was,
don't talk about it,
Don't make it a thing.
Just let him play.
Shut up.
But he's continued to play,
despite not being on that top line,
if you want to call it that,
he continues to look like a guy
who's very much more and more at home
as the days and weeks pass.
And he's not just cherry picking points,
although this one's, you know,
nice play by Backland.
I just played to stay outside too.
He drags the foot there,
but doesn't do that.
He's probably off-signed.
But he's making some other plays as well.
He looks, hey, if you need it,
retro, I'll give it to you.
he looks,
he looks good.
He looks really good.
He also looks like a guy
that can play in different spots
in the lineup,
like a Swiss Army type.
Like if you put him on a line
with cadre,
I'm not like,
uh-oh,
you're going to lose Rooch here.
He's going to be fine.
Wasn't Rooney Rooch?
Isn't that?
No,
that's the Roondog.
You were,
hmm.
Anyway,
do we have that?
Because I know,
speaking of Flames Nation,
Ryan Pike,
he was taught,
he had a thing just on Twitter
earlier this morning about Rizich,
could kind of to do that.
He's getting point.
He's getting point.
But it's not just cherry picking on the man advantage here.
He's got of his last 10 points, what, eight of them are at even strength?
Which makes sense given that he's what, like a power play two guy just recently?
And he's playing on a line with Coleman and Backland that is a really good five-on-five line.
Not playing setter.
Nope.
He hasn't since he left the fourth line.
I think it's been good for him to have to play with Backland, too.
I think Backland would be a calming influence for a kid.
like Rizichka.
That helped Hubert O2.
He started to turn the corner on that line.
I think if you look over the last 10 years,
like a lot of guys that got going next to Backland.
Kachuk, Medjee, for Leak.
No, he's not a world beater,
but it's a really nice place to play
when you've got two very responsible defensive players
to your right in Backland and Coleman.
It happened.
He's now the mature guy.
He was the young guy that needed to find his game in confidence.
Sorry, Red, I'm jumping on you.
But now,
He makes guys better.
He looks very calm.
He's getting scoring chances.
If they go in, because what is it now, 12 games or something, he hasn't scored?
He's gone goalless or whatever.
Don't care.
The wingers are looking good.
Playing other teams' top lines?
Lines been good.
You taking credit for him, too?
He's our boomer.
Because boomer wanted to run him right out of town.
Yeah, I recall a famous debate where we both locked horns about what he would be.
And I suggested sulky guy, and you said KHL.
So neither of us hit it, but one was a little closer than the other.
You didn't get much sleep that night either, Dean.
You didn't get a lot of sleep that night either.
Yeah.
I mean, at the, it's the sleep thing.
At that point, it was another injury and he was very timid.
He was just very timid and injury prone.
And it just felt like, not that he didn't have the ability, but just the guy,
felt like that guy was probably going to want to go and play in Sweden and just have life be a little bit easier.
And I just think that's.
kind of like if his name was Williamson from PA,
we wouldn't even think about it like that,
but it's just kind of built into us a bit.
There's not a league in PA where you can go and make good money either.
It would be to go home and play.
Lots of guys from Western Canada that go banking easier leagues in Europe, for sure.
Well, then whatever, it was not just that he's from Sweden necessarily.
It's that there's another pro league.
It happens to be where he's at home.
It just felt like that might have been something for him.
and he was terrible
and played scared
and played timid
he's grown up
there were reasons to think that
of course there were
there was also reasons
to suggest he'd turn into a good
two-way center
there was both
I mean it was not decisive
one way or another
which was why the conversation
was a good one
like seriously
not trying to take victory laps
here but not you
the fan base
at the time
you trying to take victory laps
that would never
that would never happen
it was a reflection
of, I think, internal debates in the organization and in the fan base at the time. It really was.
There was a lot of people that like, what are you going to be here? But remember, the other part of it, too, is that I was so many years ago, there was still that he's a first round pick. He's not going to be a score. We're at a point now. Just mentioned it. He hasn't scored goals. We're okay with it. Yeah, he's like a 15, 20 goal guy. You were still clamoring for much more.
I think absolutely. Now, he's, he's been sort of top five in Selke voting once or twice. He's not quite been there. But like,
again, he's a really responsible 200 foot center that even back then there was some indication
that results around him were getting better.
Otherwise, there's no basis for that comet to think he was going to be, right?
The only basis was that a lot of the metrics liked what was happening when he was on the ice.
And it wasn't necessarily eloquently framed, but that was, you know, Kent Wilson's been
tooting this guy's horn before anyone else in terms of like talking about scoring chances for and against.
Kent's doing one of the guy's horns.
That's fair.
I need to comment, though, because none of us,
Pinder, boomer, Kent Wilson, or other would have predicted that it would take
Bob Hartley to motivate young Michael Backland to become the player.
Was it Bobby that turned him around?
He's a motivator.
Just that steel-toed boot and the ass got him going.
Yeah.
He can press buttons.
There's no question.
He's a button pusher, that one.
Yes.
And when Bob Hartley came along, I would have bet more money than Michael Backlin would be going to Sweden.
It's like, so Bob Hartley is the motivator for you. Okay.
Interesting.
Yeah, that was a sequence.
That's for him.
We're all happy.
It's better when it works out this way for your players that you select in the first round,
that you become like a core type piece that you want to keep around and you extend into their free agent years and that they're productive players.
That's helpful.
What a segue.
What a segue we can make, Ryan.
I don't know what you're talking about.
I can't think of any players that are first rounders that didn't turn into that, Dean.
As tonight.
That may or may not be here.
For the third time in less than a week, for the third time in six days,
the flames will welcome back a first round pick that is no longer with them.
Matthew Kachuk.
And it was actually more than that, because if you throw Sam Bennett into that mix,
Sam Bennett, Matthew Kachuk, Sean Monaghan with the Habs on Thursday or whatever it was.
Tuesday, Thursday.
And tonight, Yuso Valamacki.
he is back.
Picked up on waivers.
Think about it.
Three in the morning.
I think once he's up,
he's trying to keep himself busy.
No, he's like,
I'm not getting back to sleep.
What can I get done that's productive?
I don't know that this is keeping him up per se.
Yeah, this is not keeping me up.
This is just me working.
I'm up and may as well.
Working.
I may as well do some prep.
So how I get ready for a show is.
October 9th.
Picked up off waivers.
The first rounder.
from 2017 and the untouchable yeah missed an entire season got the ACL injury to against
Colorado yeah missed an entire season could chuck leaves you get a bunch back in a trade
monahan leaves you have to give up a first rounder to get them to go this one you lose on waivers
it was two first rounders come back to calgary with montreal's monahan and the pick they gave
that's yeah i suppose so there you
is he has one goal this season. He played his 100th NHL
game Saturday in Vancouver. And this is the one goal
he has this season. We've been trying to figure, is he playing these jerseys? Is he
working? Is that buy all the color? Is that how you call them? Is he working on a
on a wing? What are they doing with them? A little curveball there. But hey, you know what?
Nice kid. He's playing in the NHL.
Well, and it's more than just the one injury. It was the season
after he was drafted, he missed a lot of time in the Western League,
comes, gets hurt in the season where he was off to a pretty decent start with the big
squad. And then the offseason after that, he has the massive, was it ACL? And loses the
full season. So for three years in a row, he didn't get a full season. And, you know,
development windows that age are so crucial. It's really, really, really, really unlikely
that someone's a player if they don't develop massively between, you know,
seasons 18 and 21 or whatever that little window is for him there.
And it hurt him a ton.
And to be fair, I don't think he skates the same way he did before.
He looked to be a better than average skater,
if not a very good skater when we saw him against Colorado in the postseason.
And after, it's just like, why is he struggling with pace here?
And I hope he can get it back.
But those are crucial years to miss for a player.
There's different layers to it, right?
He's 24.
So what does that mean in the terms?
Because like you say, you lose that much.
development time. Do you just, does it take time to get it back? Do you just naturally catch up? And by 24,
25, you are what you are. The flip side is, you took him with a first round pick.
Should he, would you not want him to be here? What is he? And then there's the asset management,
right? As you said, he was untouchable. There were no question. And this is easy Monday morning
quarterback. But there would have been deals that could have been made. Well, he would be a centerpiece
for the Mark Stone deal, whether Stone was going to resign long team here or not,
is an entirely different, I guess, facet of that.
But that was the player that they were hesitant to give up.
And at that time, it made sense to be hesitant to give him up.
He looked like he was their best defense against Colorado in some people's mind.
And, you know, yeah, that was Norris Gio year.
He wasn't good in that.
It's a weird how it all fell apart thing.
There's still some things that you look at and go,
Jeez, I don't know if that was managed correctly.
And if you want to keep going with the asset management thing,
is it crazy to suggest he'll be better than Connor Mackey?
Because they essentially decided to put one on waivers and one not.
It's not been a great couple months for Connor Mackey.
Well, and it's been not good in small enough samples so not good that he's just not getting in,
that they're playing Dennis Gilbert and Nick D. Simone ahead of them.
And, you know, we may look back on that and say,
why are you picking like a quite old college free agent kid with very little
development time left in terms of where he's at age wise against a first rounder?
And then there's also the relationship with the coach.
And Daryl's not really a nurturing,
we'll give a time type guy, right?
I think that's my biggest beef with all of it is still going back to that
couple week period where Mackey was playing and Darrell wouldn't even put him in.
And they were out of the playoffs and he wasn't getting any ice time and we never
without Mackey yourself yeah and I don't yeah yeah bala Mackey I we just and not that that it might have nothing to do with it but those games are such throwaway games yep and the way that they were coached I just don't agree with I agree and we talked about it on our show at the time about why you keep running Marksram out here you could end up like five slots higher in the first round that could be really helpful when it's a lost season um and and and
conversely, or I guess on the same page,
it's you could know more about Valamaki and not have to get all the way to
waiver eligibility before you lose him to say,
look,
he's not what he once was.
If we could package him for a third here,
we've got to do it.
Instead of saying,
well,
we're not really sure yet.
You might be more sure ahead of losing him for Zip.
The one thing is for sure,
because I remember we would talk the days after those games when he was getting in,
he was taking some serious contact.
He wasn't finding a way to avoid those big hits.
It's true.
Freight train hits.
He needed to play more games.
He's got 100.
I mean, man.
And they sent him down to the A to play a bunch too,
and it was just like you wanted to see more, but.
And I get you're a team that feels like you're in a,
you're in a playoff hunt and you can't just give away games,
but I don't know.
I get the pressures that are on NHL coaches and all of that,
but it sure felt like it would have been,
if you wanted to,
there was an opportunity to get him into games.
Yeah.
And I think what this speaks to is, okay, what is the best option for the GM so he can do his job best?
What is best for the coach so he can do his job best?
You need to find a way to marry those two things better than the flames have.
Because it feels like Darrell is we have to win every game at all costs, even when we're out of it or mathematically below like 10% probability of getting into the postseason.
Whereas the GM would be like, you know, I would like to get a look at some guys ahead of having to make decisions in the off season.
And at this point, it appears that the coach has a little more strength on the tug-of-war on those decisions.
When you looked at Markstrom starting down the stretch in meaningless games.
When you looked at the lack of Valamaki being there, when Matthew Phillips has only played one NHL game in his career.
Well, when they called us idiots for saying trade geo, that one still sticks out to me.
The fact that you hung on to geo was...
You knew you were going to lose him.
It irks me.
Yeah.
Yeah.
He's leaving.
he's leaving
like
and I don't know that that's coach versus GM
so much is just
this is no
but it certainly feels like bad asset management
that Jeff Wardier was a
it was a waste
disaster I mean it was weird
it was COVID it was this it was that
it was a disaster all the way through
and you look back on it and and I think it was
coached oddly although I know that Darrell was
trying to put in a system and a philosophy and this is how we're going to do it and said you know
it's kind of set the groundwork but it really was that necessary at that point and we're not going to
trade geo he's our captain well he's leaving but yeah but we're not trading him because he's
been good to the community yeah but he's leaving yeah but we're not going to trade him because
he's geo but he's leaving you know you're not keeping you're going to expose him in a month yeah
in a month you're going to have a conversation about hey we're going to have to expose you
that but we can't trade it the other thing that happened there
You can't play Val Mackie.
Why?
That season,
Johnny Goddress spent a lot of time
with Broken Sean Monaghan and Brett Ritchie as his linemates.
And statistically you came into that offseason,
wondering what he was and maybe more hesitant
to give him an extension that first chance you had
than you might have been otherwise.
Now, Daryl did put Matthew, Johnny, and Linholm
together for a bit at the end of that season.
But it led that into that offseason
where it was like, what is Johnny Goddrow?
And there's not a lot of off seasons we've had.
around Johnny Goodroy where we've asked that question, but that was one of them, and that leads
he ended walking him into free agency in his last year. I mean, and even the Jeff Ward thing,
I don't think Brad Trilliving had Jeff Ward at the top of his list. I don't think he wanted to go
pay a guy bottom three salary for a coach in the NHL. I think you have to keep looking up for some
of these issues. I don't think the owner was going to say, Bill Peters is on payroll. I paid Bob
Hartley for a year he wasn't here. I don't want to go get a $2 million top of the
market coach and so the GM's hands are tied a bit. So some of this asset management stuff goes all the
way up to owner. Wow. We, they're all owners. I mean, there's not very many owners around the
league that just say, carte blanche, you have freedom to do as you wish. So I mean, you always
have to answer to the ownership and maybe even more so in Calgary. Yeah. And I don't think it's like
the overhansy all the time I want to be the GM type owner like you see maybe in Vancouver.
Vancouver or some other spots.
But just specifically on financials, it feels like it's really difficult sometimes with this owner.
Like if you're going to pay two coaches, no.
Spend to the cap every year.
Sure, go.
I was going to say players, I don't feel it's the case.
No, they get the cap every year.
Yeah.
But with staff, coaches, it does feel like there's a, no, no, you figure it out.
Yeah, which is a tough spot to be put in, especially when you look at the Bill Peters situation.
Like, I don't know that any GM interviewing a coach ever would have asked a,
question at that point on earth that would have unearthed what we learned about Bill Peters
in Rockford. And that's not to suggest that there shouldn't be red flags or things, but just that
it wasn't like the GM stepped on a landmine that everyone else saw coming. Nobody saw that coming.
That was a shock to the hockey world. Do you want to go down memory lane? Because you know I hate to
talk about only if we get to revisit an old draft. Old drafts.
Let's try it, Dean, just this once. Because of we were talking about the first rounders. Here is the,
here is the Flames story.
And I'm, you know, I'm crafting it a little bit to make a point,
but you'll probably pick up.
It's not really that hard to pick up.
So 2019, their first rounder, Jacob Peltje.
Yep.
We'd love to see him at some point.
I think we will.
The year prior, 2018,
Flames didn't select until round four.
Yeah.
2017, first rounder Yuso Valamaki.
2016, Matthew Kuch.
2015, did not have a first rounder.
That would have been in Hammanick, probably.
So Domiton.
Yeah.
2014, Sam Bennett, 2013,
Sean Monaghan,
Emil Poreer, Morgan Klimchuk.
One for three.
2012, Mark Jankowski,
who we saw earlier this year
as a Nashville predator.
I mean, you hit on some guys,
you missed on some guys.
If you were in the NHL,
if you were definitely not in the NHL,
but man, you think of all those first round picks.
When you hear about offer sheets,
oh, it's going to be four first rounders or it's got what can you can go, right?
It's a Calgary Flames curse.
You can go back to the 90s.
Isn't it?
Like, honestly, it's a first rounders, early picks aren't how many.
The 90s were especially bad.
Like you had Fata and Daniel Kachak and, you know, bless his heart, what a lovely man.
A 20 minute career, Brett Cron.
Like there was a lot of bad picks in the 90s.
Michael Backland, 24th overall in 07.
Backland's a good selection for mid-20s.
You're pretty much coin flip in the mid-20s to become a decent player.
That's a home run pick right there.
It's crazy sounding, but I think you're right.
You get 15 years out of a guy?
Let's go over the last 30 years of Flames picks then.
Who's been home runs in the first round?
Well, I'll tell you one of the best draft years any teams ever had in the last decade in the NHB.
Adam Fox and Matthew Kachuk in the same year.
That's two star players.
Most teams do not have a draft that good in the last 20 years.
The problem was Fox didn't sign here.
But he wins a Norris in his second year in the NHL.
I think for the first time it's like Bobby O or something stupid.
And he's an elite.
Every year he's going to be an all-star.
Ditto for Matthew Kachuk.
You got both those guys in the same draft.
Dillon Dubay in that draft as well.
Solid player, not a star, not an all-star, but that's a,
functional top nine part.
And in round six,
a guy that maybe should be
in Matthew Phillips,
who is continuing to tear up
the American high.
And continuing to spur a lot of debate
here in Calgary.
I think one of the things
we have to keep under check here
is to remember
that 31 teams could have had
Matthew Phillips for free
and that this isn't one team
way off base on Matthew Phillips
so much as it could be
the whole league's off base,
or maybe he's a quad A guy
that's going to go be
the highest paid player import
in the KHL for the next five years and make a great living there.
We don't know the answer, but any team could have had him for nothing.
It's an important thing to remember.
He lit it up last year, too, and the year before.
This isn't new.
There is a history of guys dominating HL hockey and not turning it into NHL.
They're typically smaller and older players.
He's not old yet.
The only reason I bring his name up is because some of his goals have been all over the internet,
and we talked about it.
I don't know if that's the same anymore, Pinder.
what's that go ahead sorry no I don't know if it's the same anymore I agree with it used to be older players
and smaller players back in the day I don't know if that's the case anymore I think the guys that
like Matthew he's not hanging around here to be old I think he's going to Europe in a year or two
if he's not getting his chance he's going to make big money I agree I agree yeah now it's just
one of those things where it's like okay you're going to sign an A HOL only deal for like four to
600 grand or you go to Europe and you make four to six hundred thousand euros go play in a top
team in switzerland or russia yeah like darren haydar was a guy that probably don't real lit up the
american league over a point per game for like a half decade to a decade never was nchel but made huge
dough playing in the eight that that's a thing quad a guy you didn't and you didn't used to make big money
in the a now guys are making real money yeah it used to be a couple teams like hersy or the
Chicago team, but now it's like every team's got a couple of guys.
You're like, oh, that's HL only.
He's making good money.
That's changed in the last 20 years, 15 years.
So it's to kind of get back into tonight's game, we'll talk about the coyotes in a moment.
We know that it's going to be Dan Vladar going again.
He went on Saturday against the Caps, gets a win, earns another start.
And we talked about it on the Friday show.
And I said, you have to go back to Markstrom.
You can't let this guy sit on the I suck at hockey right now stuff in his head.
But Vlodar.
I didn't say that.
Pinder said go Vlodar.
I don't think.
I think Jake was being honest and transparent.
I'm not worried about him being broken mentally.
I think he's a good enough pro that's been through a lot.
You look at his career path,
how long he was a top prospect before he became a number one in this league, like a long time.
I think if it's a 24-year-old Carter Hart, you have to play it differently.
but this is a veteran very good.
I'm not worried about Markstrom losing this mentally.
Yeah, yeah.
Right.
Are we in a good situation now?
I think so.
You got a hot goalie.
The dark.
Yeah.
Well, does it make it easy for Sutter?
Or just go, guess what, fellas?
Whoever's playing well?
Whoever's getting me wins?
It's your net.
The other part of it is if he didn't let that first bad goal in against Montreal
all and the flames eke that out?
Are we talking about Markstrom being brutal here?
Or is it like, oh, he's turned the corner of it because it's been.
Nope, we aren't.
Because it's only one goal he allows after that.
He comes up with some big saves.
But I think to your point, Red, they need a goalie that's going to get them two points.
They need two points.
Who's your best goalie right now to give you two points?
It's Danville it are.
That doesn't mean it's going to be him in two weeks or in a month.
It's certainly not April 15 when you want to be in the playoffs.
But right now, it's pretty simple.
Much like the Rizigka conversation, do you have it or do you not have it?
The more I watch Vlodar, I sit there and I just wonder,
is there a conversation to be had in the,
have you got something here with Dan Vlodar?
Yeah, I think the reason they picked him up in trade is the reason he could be something big.
I don't want to go out on a limb and say that goalies are kind of like voodoo,
or you can't, you know, you can't figure out goalies.
But yet they trade for him.
Big goalie looks good.
Only had six games in the league at that point.
Solid H.L numbers.
But what if?
What if?
It's a great problem to have.
I love having too many good goalies.
Right?
And Dustin Wolfe's coming too.
I mean, the best case in areas,
Wolfe continues to perform.
Linderr lights it up the rest.
Honest to God, if Lederer can light it up the rest of year,
I don't know if you could do it.
You trade Markstrom in the off season.
Or you trade Vladar.
If he's young and cost controlled, he's immensely valuable.
But if Lidar, if Lidar takes a step and is your best goalie, you're trading him?
No, what I'm saying is if you have three goalies in a really good spot.
It's a Pittsburgh thing.
Yeah, it's, it's okay.
If Markstrom gets back into form, if Lidar looks like he could be a one and Dustin Wolf's like,
hello, I've graduated, I can't dominate this level anymore, you've got lots of options this
off season.
You don't have to trade one guy because he's the only guy that has value or, geez, you know, his money's too high, but we need to trade them so the deal's not going to bring us much.
You have options in terms of just a straight asset management thing.
Well, nothing matters until you have a good playoff run, probably.
But if you can win around and if it's Flaard or Marks, I mean, probably, you know, if you're confident going into the offseason, it's the, it's the, it's the Pittsburgh thing where they've got.
Mark Andre Fleury and Matt Murray.
who's been he's been yeah and and and then who comes in and oh my god my brain matt murray murray
murray comes in and steals the net and wins a cup and they all of a sudden they have to get rid of
well looking back they should have got rid of murray they'll end up getting both on her on a tear
vladargo's on a tear now he can trade a guy for oh man big assets so and here's here's how crazy net mining is
and like you said, everything's going to come back to,
ooh, but Matt Marie looked like, okay, he's the young guy,
he's way better now for sure.
Mark Andre Fleury had a goals against above three,
say percentage under 900, he goes to Vegas and it's a star again better than Murray.
Matt Murray looks broken in Ottawa, like this guy's cooked.
Now he looks better in Toronto than Fleury does in Minnesota.
And to be fair, to go back to the Markstrom, how he ended up,
coming loose is Vancouver's like, we got a young stud in Thatcher Demko.
People are picking them to win the Vesna.
It's been dog shit this year.
Been outplayed by Spencer Martin.
Ooh!
Like, go try to make your plans for the summer.
When you get there, you'll know what have happened.
Guessing what's going to happen with goalies,
like may as well head down to a casino and throw some money on number 17 out of 36.
Like, it's, it's freaking roulette.
It's a good number.
It's a good number.
That's your boy.
I play 17.
Well, I've got a number for you.
Or 17 as the youngest.
Yeah, of course she did.
How about 14?
That's the number of consecutive road games on this road trip for the Arizona Coyotes.
We talked about the Mollett Arena.
The homestand that the flames had at the start and then they went out for a bunch and then they come back.
Five straight home.
It's too many.
You were saying it's too many home games.
The Arizona Coyotes because they have some, you know, they're part of the complex there at the
Mullet Arena.
The Mullet Arena.
ESU.
It's going up.
A 14 game road trip.
Tonight is game 13 of the 14.
I know we've got a graphic here that will show you where they've been, where they're going.
They have two left, Calgary and then Edmonton, and then they get to go home.
And we know what's awaiting them there.
What, 5,000 seats, ish.
The Mullet Arena, not huge.
But it's a lot.
Yeah, it's a lot.
Now, last year, the New York Islanders went on a 13 game trip.
their rink was getting built at the start of the season,
or the completion of being built,
the UBS Arena.
The longest
was the Vancouver Canucks in 2010.
Olympics.
They had to get out.
So much work had to be done at the arena
to get it ready.
Sure.
Then the games.
And then all of the tear down.
It was...
They'd just tackle those gold bricks in the IOC suite.
Get it ready for the Olympics.
Yeah.
14 is...
It'll tie the wreck.
record. They went 8, 5, and 1 did Vancouver back in 2010.
And that was a good team, 2010, because they went to the Cup finals in 11, I believe,
and they won the president's trophy two years in a row there.
Arizona's done less well on their roadie so far with losses.
They also didn't have a 8 of their last 9.
10-day Olympic break. See, they need a long road trip with a long break in the middle of it.
That's what you got to do.
Yeah.
They'll finish it in Edmonton, you said,
eh, Wednesday night.
This is a plucky hardworking team.
There's just a deficiency of skill and name brand qualities.
Talent.
I got to watch San Jose last night.
That is a sad sack.
There's still good players there, too,
but it's a lot of guys you'd never heard of.
I felt terrible for Logan Couture.
Yeah.
Couture, Meyer,
Hurtle, Carlson,
And then either too old or too young.
You're in Buffalo.
You're in Buffalo.
On a Sunday night, you're the shits.
There's no fans at the game.
It's quiet.
And you're just like how we're out of it already.
There's no playoffs.
This is a right off year.
How am I motivating myself to go play?
Oh, yeah.
I'm a professional.
I get paid.
Okay.
Still a human.
Oh.
No dummies.
They know.
Felt bad for it.
Yeah.
We are sending someone to the game tonight here at the Saddle Dome.
Sweet. Madrose Pub, our hookup, of course, not every game, but probably about a game a week.
We've got tickets to give away, provided the Flames are at home.
We're not sending you on the road.
If it's a Flames home game, there's a good chance you've got some tickets.
Can't send you on the road.
Do you think we're made of money here?
Can't do it.
We'd love to, but can't do it.
Madrose Pub.
We should send you with a tukk and mittens, apparently, the cold weather.
Yeah.
Good point.
Some made up.
Well point.
We'll work on it.
Madrose.
Dot Pub 15 Royal Vista Place.
Next chance to win.
Next home game.
Be watching your social,
your soche,
be watching the show,
be listening to the show,
downloading the podcast,
be ready,
another pair of tickets
going out on Wednesday.
Just looking at the Yotes here.
Uh-huh.
Yoties.
Uh,
24.98 million dollars in cap space.
So maybe they're just waiting to spend on some.
They've got room to add.
They got room to add.
They're only going to get better, Dean.
I was looking at, because I, too, was looking at the roster this morning.
And how many of those, what else did they get plus the player type of trades?
Like the Shane Goss to spare.
Two seconds.
Shane Goss to spare a second and a seventh for future considerations.
Zach Cassian, a first, a second, and a third for a first.
And then it's also like, L-L trade.
Lad.
So there's not a trade out there that can't be made right now.
With that much cap space, you can approach Arizona, and any deal can be made.
So here's an example of that.
Kane makes 10 and a half.
There's about a third of the season left at the deadline.
So if Chicago's moving Kane at the deadline, only a third left, let's call it $4 million.
Chicago could eat half.
That gets it down to $2 million.
You could rent it through Arizona.
And then he's basically got a million dollars.
That's all the space you need for Patrick Kane for the rest of the year.
How many players were Arizona coyotes?
Wasn't Pavel Datsuk?
Yeah.
A coyote, but never played.
Like, Pronger, wasn't he?
Like you mentioned Ladd.
Brian Little's there right now.
You might not know.
Right?
Weber.
Where's Weber?
Weber's money's in Vegas, right?
Because they need the LTIR thing, which is a different.
I mean, Carrie Price, future coyote.
He's going to turn the tide there because he's going to come with a first rounder.
Yeah, there you go.
Andrew Ladd and Brian Little.
Yeah.
Never play.
Oh, and they knew it.
It's just, yeah, like, we'll get this off your books.
Give us some picks.
And they've loaded up on picks here.
They've got eight picks in the first three rounds next year.
And they've already got five in the first two rounds in 2025.
Five picks already.
And it was the same this past draft.
They were just constantly picked.
And Arizona, followed by Arizona on the draft queue.
Now, you kind of crush them.
But I feel like there's part of you that has to almost applaud that strategy.
I think like everything on the ownership level has been a disaster.
But I think the new GM has done a really good job of,
getting a lot of assets here.
And they peeled the McBain kid,
you're going to see tonight off Minnesota.
He was a really good collegiate player.
I think
if they have a new rink ready
in four or five years, I believe
they'll be a very good team by then.
Now, that's not like the brightest thing
in terms of like, yay, we'll only have to wait four more
years, but things are going in the right direction.
So the rank is going to control whether they're a good team?
No, no, no. I what I'm saying is, if you have a new
rank and who knows if they get it done or not,
I think when they move into a sparkling new building,
it could be a very, very good team by that.
Certainly.
You're either in Houston or you're in a new rink
with a competitive team, is my guess.
And I think that timeline fits with really what the objectives are.
If we want to save this team in Phoenix,
we've got to be good in a new, get a new rink and be good.
Or if we're moving it to a new market,
don't be shitty when you go there.
And I think what they have is lining up timewise with that.
What sparked me thinking on all of this was loss and crux.
leads them with 10 goals.
And they got him in the Boland deal.
They took Dave Bolin's money out of Florida
and got this kid who was a first round pick tossed in.
It's really kind of amazing.
Nick Richie is a cap dump from the Leafs.
Yeah.
I'm just looking throughout here.
Like Dylan Gunther filled the net in Western League.
That was the top 10 pick they got in the OEL,
Louis Erickson, Eat the Money deal.
They took Erickson, Roussel, J. Beagle.
And a first.
and a second and a seventh and gave up OEL's fat contract and Connor Garland.
And Garland.
Like they're doing, if you're going to be bad, you may as well do it this way.
Don't, don't be, do it like Philly where you're capped out and you're not getting any picks.
Do it where you actually like amass young assets, right?
Not that you want to be in that spot.
But if you're going to be 30th in the NHL.
Well, we only have 5,000 seats to sell.
Maybe that's not a bad.
Maybe it's okay.
Don't, don't, yeah, if you're the coyotes, don't peak this year and go on the decline.
Take your time here.
Be good in three years.
We're going to do the Pinda Report here shortly.
You wanted to, once again, you know what?
I guess we have to give your brother some kudos here.
A kudy hardos.
A kudy hardos.
That's right.
Not your brother.
Not Bob.
Trev.
Bob doesn't get any kudos.
Love your Bob.
Trev got us connected with Dr. J. Patel.
Dr. Jay Patel, Outdoor Dental. Outdoor Dental is on board, one of our new sponsors.
Changing lives.
Changing lives.
Jay walked, as I said last week, he walked us through, showed off all the gear that he said was very expensive.
This Trevor Warner, heck of a guy to try and deal with.
No deals with Trev.
But what he, what you have.
Too much, Trev, too much.
But the good news is if you're in need of dental help, this is, you see it right there.
Dentistry, no needles, no drills.
the turnaround on stuff,
some of it like a crown,
the same day type of a thing
where you'd have to go in
and do multiple appointments
and all of that sort of thing.
Go ahead.
I needed this before,
I needed this before the shoveler
decided to go to Phoenix for dentists.
Right.
Yeah.
If only you knew someone in the dental industry,
you knob.
It's your frickin' brother we're talking about.
Outdoor. Dot dental.
Now, of course, there's that, which is great.
and it's like so amazing it's amazing considering again I was the dummy that went and had the old
school stuff apparently but there is a new way of doing business if you got issues or it's the
end of the year you got to use up your stuff you know against your real thing call dr. j outdoor dot
dental is the website but we were talking about this specifically for maybe our audience is
snoring treatments bunch of snores they put a little bit of uh because somebody had said if
they're using a laser, how does it painless? There's some kind of topical kind of cream,
whatever, just kind of a little, and then shh, in with the laser, two of these sessions,
and it's soft palate work, it can, if not cure, then reduce or eliminate your snoring.
Love it. Which then allows you to sleep better. Maybe. And be happier, right, Red?
You should give it a whirl. Yeah, see, I knew exactly where you're going.
Driving down the divorce rate single-handedly. Thank you.
Reduce.
Jay Patel, could you put a booking in for the boom boom here?
I don't have any.
Quickly.
Don't have benefits anymore, sadly.
Anyway, outdoor.dendal's website, truthfully, go check them out, get in there.
If not for the snoring, find out a little bit more about it.
Then it's where you need to go and get your dental work done for sure.
Time for the Pinder report.
Just a heads up.
Yep.
If you could today.
Too sweet.
Don't do any FIFA.
No World Cup highlights.
Sorry about that.
You donkey.
I know.
Remember red on Friday.
Old Hammerhead, half in the bag, smelling like an arsehole in here doing the Pinder report.
Oh, it says, the FIFA at the World Cup.
I was like, you're not going to do World Cup highlights, are you?
Oh, okay.
They're telling them to come after me.
Took about nine minutes for the FIFA police to take our shit down off of YouTube on Friday.
I take umbrage with one thing.
So you're not allowed to do that?
No.
I didn't smell like an asshole.
I smelled like a bar mat that all the shots get poured on.
That's what I smelled like.
It's time for the Pinder apart.
You stunk.
It's a presentation.
A village Honda, things going so well.
Look at us.
So well.
Look at us.
Extended the $2 million buy-in event continues.
For one more month, they'll buy your car even if you don't buy theirs.
Plus, you could win a cruise.
What?
A cruise for two.
Limited time.
It behooves you to go and visit Village Honda in the Northwest Auto Mall.
go online village honda.com.
It's a big word.
I'm just going to go to the website.
It's all right.
It's easiest.
There's kind of QR code there.
Just zip it.
Start with the Flames fellows.
The Saturday late night on hockey night against the Washington capitals, as you'd say, Dean.
And boy, there was some action early.
Just most of it, Darcy Kemper chopping wood in his crease.
Take a look at the healthy, oh, gosh.
It's a good one.
If you're going to lay it in.
If Todd Tully forgets to put on a shit pad or maybe go,
goes with the,
uh,
a small white pages from medicine hat.
Like he's got a busted leg here.
This is quite a chop.
We've seen Markstrom go a little bit.
Markstrom's feisty.
I didn't know Kemper was built this way.
Huh.
These goalies.
Yeah.
Uh,
they do pick up the victory in that game.
And more from Adam Rizekka as, uh,
three points,
parents in the building,
Backland,
his center,
three points.
Don't believe his parents were in the building,
but suddenly Roach is having quite a run.
Um,
Didn't hear any chance, but maybe it was close.
Weird.
As for his production, actually pretty incredible at even strength this year compared to any flames.
As he stacks up amongst the top of the group, never mind that he missed, what, nine games to healthy scratch at the start of the year?
Nine.
Disco down.
Yeah, there he are.
So look at this.
Top five and five on five points this year.
So take out power plays.
Take out shorthand goals.
not doing anything else.
Lynn home at 11,
Becklin at 10,
Toff Dog at 9,
Coleman at 9 and Rozichka at 9.
Toff, dog.
Toffy.
Yeah.
Toff.
Tov.
Teacup or whatever.
Teacup now.
They're trying to.
Teapot.
I don't get it.
Dan Vladar,
get a go tonight.
We heard earlier this morning,
and speaking of Dan Vladar,
he's been very good.
His last four games,
940.
You'll take that.
And the,
eyeball test would match. He's made some great saves. He's been very good and has earned what will be his
fifth start in their last seven games tonight. That's a run. We talked about this. Is it time for a run?
If it plays well, give him a run. It's getting a run. It's like Rhett. Going for a run.
I thought about going for a run today because it's nice out here, but I'm fat and my shirt's too tight.
Well, if you're running and you get into shape and your shoulders feel better, I think there's a roster you can crack.
Let's have a look at the Arizona Coyote's lines and pairings tonight.
Brett, as it's a who's who's who of who the hell are you.
No, there's some skill at the top for sure.
That is Yuso on the wing.
Somehow Yuso, I don't know if this is what we do when we run 70 instead of six
or if Yuso's actually playing forward, but tune in tonight.
You're so confusing me.
Liam O'Brien, can't wait to meet you.
Jack McBain, into the NHL.
You know what's going to happen?
they're both going to score and they'll be,
you'll be shut up!
Well, I'll keep saying names.
Matthias Maselli.
We'll see what his Micelli is after I've cursed him
and he scores, right?
That's how it's going to go.
Wasn't that...
Who's the boss?
Wasn't that Tony...
Tony Danza?
Well, maybe.
I don't know his name there.
Yeah.
And they are still going to delete from this roster, guys.
Left side of the top pair,
Jacob Chikrin has been on the block and then saying,
oh, you're trying to trade me?
I was going to extend here.
freaking trade me if that's what you really want to do
he's going to be gone at some point here
it was Tony Maselli look at that
I'm smart wow you're good hey
god damn it and uh caramel venti mocha
tending the pipe's been pretty good for them all things consider
what's your other name for him that's all I can talk about
we'll move along it's the internet
speaking of the internet
uh flame's farm hand is trying to break it as Matthew Phillips
continues to score highlight real goals
they blank the San Diego goals six nothing and
well Phillips
had a little fun with this breakaway.
Watch the little back.
Yep, yep.
Oh, it's tricky.
It's pretty.
Do we have the sound on this?
I'd love to hear it.
Old time they'd have just drilled them in the corner.
Yeah, of course they would.
To make it three nothing.
Watch this again.
It's a serious little cheeky kachuck type shootout dangle.
They had that.
How about the pass?
All alone, it's Phillips scores.
Is he feeling it, do you think?
Look at the shots.
28, 13.
You think he's feeling it a bit?
Yeah, he's feeling it.
I'm going to say, is San Diego trying?
Like, the defense would just look like they were like,
oh, whatever.
How's our boy Jeff Glass doing there?
His goalies has to face 28 shots,
and we're not even done the second period yet.
Here's the other angle.
Oh, filth.
Let them play a game.
There's 82 games.
Yeah.
There's 82 games.
The farm team's in the same rank.
Yeah, what about the gas, though?
He'll need to get from the,
nope, same ring.
Okay.
Make them hurt.
Other NHL news, we want, do you want people that are mad and cranky?
That's my people.
Let's check in with red ass Jordan Bennington.
That's who I live with.
Who continues, continues to be angry and mad at everything.
Is that right?
Yeah.
Here's Bennington after being pulled.
Yeah, you're going to.
This guy all juiced up or what?
It's just a snap show.
He is a snap show.
Now, he's chirping the penguins.
It's like, how many cups do these?
guys of the bench have?
Someone needs to grab that mullet and smack
them around a little bit.
Well, and you know who verbally sent him a message?
He's yapping.
His head coach, let's have a listen to Craig Barubei,
who I don't know that he's real keen on this behavior
that he's watched, you know, since the cup.
Gotta be better.
Everybody, goalie too.
Yeah.
It's not good enough.
Was this the case of Jordan just getting frustrated there?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, pretty much.
And he's got to stop.
That doesn't help anything.
Pardon me?
It doesn't help anything.
Yeah, we'd like them to just to be more even key.
Just play goal.
Stop the puck.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Thought it'd be ruder.
STFU and Mix in a save.
Well, if you want a little more heat from the coach, because that was more composed than I thought it would be.
Let's head to Philly, where we all saw this coming and we're just doing this.
Because you knew that torts in the flyers wouldn't be in a playoff spot for long.
What was the reason for the loss?
For the...
I'll leave that alone.
Are you happy with the effort tonight?
Yes.
You're asking me dumb questions, guys.
Really dumb questions.
Jesus.
Played our ass off.
We done?
Thank you.
I mean, I don't know how to feel about it.
What do you mean?
You know exactly how to Phil.
This is all we wanted when he went to Philly.
It's perfect.
We love this.
bumps before he started the time.
I know.
It is so good, Dean.
I could just, the suspense.
If you put that on my screen, I would stare at it for an hour, just waiting to hear what's
coming.
You're like, what is it?
What's it going to be?
And, you know, he's just that intense.
Like, they asked, was there a reason for the loss?
Did you like the effort?
These are dumb questions.
Are we done here?
We're done.
Oh, yeah.
Everyone's just got pee coming out of them waiting to.
Shortest press conference of the season.
They didn't try to.
Shortest press.
of the year. We're not even at Christmas
guys. We get another three, four months
of this shit. I love it.
Oh, so happy. It's going to build
up, right? Because the next time that happens,
there's going to be a reporter that grows a set
and asks another question.
And then he's going to flip his lid.
Yes. And you know what really would have made him flip his lid?
Imagine if that punk
ruining hockey
with his lacrosse goals, Trevor Ziegress
had scored this shootout goal
against the fires. Look at the hands.
This is stupid. Unbelievable.
Trevor Zagrhus.
And if you see it from the beginning,
he goes real slow up from center.
We'll play it again, Alex,
we'll sound the whole way.
He comes like incredibly,
painfully slow out of the gate.
And then...
This is slow-mo, mind you.
Keep this in mind.
And gets right up against the wall.
Think.
Starts at center, obviously, at the dot,
and then works his way all the way
to the right boards.
Look this.
Zergris.
If you're listening, is I do.
Bidip-d-Dip-Doo.
Look at the Mitz.
Bing.
Reminds me of a young,
Brett Warner.
Back in Frontier.
I loved it.
Actually, somebody tweeted out a Ginnla break or shootout goal or something.
The heading was like Iggy, typical Iggy.
And it's like, Iggy was terrible.
He was bad.
At breakways and penalties.
Yeah.
Terrible.
They made it seem like he.
never missed and it was like he barely scored he was awful i think he got better his time passed but
there was like five years you just couldn't use him unless it was like okay we're at the fifth shooter
we got you guys scored 40 like i guess we go to give it was like who the flesi you're gonna put out
there at some point you're not putting your 40 goal guys okay well Steve rhyme precht get out there
i guess he was awful he'd practice he'd go out early in practice before the practice over thinking it
shootout moves just come in and rip one that's what he needed to do that how that's
kind of do the quite good at it um okay so zegris he had it scientifically broken down i got to speed
up slow down cross center switch hands fake shot he was that guy too right nice if you'd get back to me
yeah i got he'd show up at practice with a new stick it's like oh there we go solved now the goals
are going to pour in now he's going from the from this easton synergy to that color eastern synergy look out
Sprite paint.
We should ask Conroy.
We should ask Conroy.
We're extending this Pinda Report,
but we should ask Conroy next time about when Monaghan switched his curve.
Oh.
Because right around that point.
It wasn't the two hips, the two wrists, the forearm.
It was the...
No.
Curve.
It was the lie.
Let me guess.
You went back to a different lie in Montreal this year.
It's on rail.
Too much toe.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
So that was degris in the shootout.
He's famous for the, you know, lacrosse type goals.
Check out the women's hockey team at Penn State.
It's a fake lacrosse goal and it works perfectly.
Fake Michigan.
Yeah.
At Penn State.
Behind.
Oh, I'm going to.
Oh, scoop it up.
Nope.
They score.
This is something.
Everyone in the building is like, oh, they're going down to flex it and scoop it up.
It's going to be a Michigan.
She did fake.
That was wicked.
And then her teammates swoops in and tuxed in and wrap around, no sweat.
That needs a name now.
Awesome.
Yeah, the fake Michigan, the fishing.
Is that it?
I don't know.
Can't be worse than Roach.
Good for them.
And if we're looking at highlight goals, let's head to the Saddle Dome yesterday.
One more look here, I guess.
Yeah, yeah, I guess.
As the Calgary Hitman,
had their annual teddy bear toss, which is such a great event.
We're talking, usually flirting with 20,000 bears off to charity,
right at this time of year ahead of Christmas.
The community loves it.
The team does a great job with the promotion.
Kids were jacked to get back there after the pandemic
had slowed down the event a little bit the last few years,
and here's your winner of the teddy bear toss.
Cool.
Zink.
I'm going to want that one.
Got to get on your post there, tender.
Unger, the Calgary goalie.
And there they go.
Curly.
Unreal.
Why would you go on the ice?
Why wouldn't you hide in the bench?
Oh, they got to come out and celebrate and then take all the fun photos where they're diving into the piles of bears.
Does seem fun.
You know what?
Like the jerseys too.
Look at the snow on the numbers.
Is that snow on the numbers?
Yes.
It's a Christmas jersey for the teddy bear toss game.
You love Christmas.
Cool.
You hate everything fun.
I'll tell you why I was going to say the netting.
We have to put that netting up behind the nets.
Mm-hmm.
ruined the teddy berthas.
No, no.
What it did is there's like a five-by-five seat area
that's the greatest seats in all of pro sports
where all the bears have to come four of them in each corner.
Shuffle through.
And you just get buried in them as everyone moves them around the netting over the glass.
Yeah.
Buy a block of those seats for the rest of the time.
And Warner, don't ever get those seats.
Yeah, don't come to this game.
Because your shoulders will get sore from having to heave all those, you know.
Oh, God.
So tip of the cap to Calgary.
The Higranes, the Calgary Hitman.
And the Hitman, the Hitman on the logo is wearing a Santa hat.
The Hitman mask of the logo he's got a Santa hat on.
There's snow on the numbers.
One of my kids even stayed past midpoint of the second period.
Unreal.
Fun.
Congrats, Hitman.
Good job, guys.
Yeah, player.
You even won the game.
Yeah, player.
Last couple for you.
Well, we have big news in Major League Baseball as the New York Mets who lost Jacob de Grom
to $185 million
five-year deal
despite him making
like less than 40 starts
the last few years
combined.
They just went and replaced him
with Justin Verlander.
So Mr. Upton
going to join Mr. Scherzer
with the Mets.
Just a cool $43 million a year
on a two-year deal
with a third-year vest.
I'm glad for him.
I'm happy that he's
doing well.
Good for him.
Keeping track at home,
the Mets are now the Yankees.
Finally caught a break.
403 million a year at 40 years of age or what I'm saying late 30s yeah and uh and i fell
yesterday jimmy garoppolo's done for the year fellas that's probably not good for the
nineers although he wasn't their running back anyway or on their defense they just have
debo do now he can throw it run out wild catch the whole time uh and and they're didn't they
draft some fancy yeah he already got injured for the year in uh week one in chicago in that long
Sun Tsun Rain, I believe.
Trey Lance.
So that's two season-ending injuries to
Niners, quarterbacks, and they lead the division.
Gotta be the turf.
And finally, gentlemen...
Very helpful for the bills.
They wear cups not only in the NHL, but also the NFL.
Here's that very game we spoke of.
Take a peek.
Agave.
Oh, well, you don't try and hurdle the guy.
Or if you do, understand the risks involved.
Yeah.
Did you guys have anything special on the line this weekend?
head to head here because I noted that
you were playing each other in fantasy football
and it's not over but it looks over
as the Stink and Barn Painters are up by
35 on Simply the Breast
who have two players going tonight
I can't
I looked at my team like I feel like
I should win games and I'm not even close
Lamar got me one point yesterday so that's good
yeah my other league I had Lamar and Jimmy G
they combined for two points
I can't boast with
87 points. That's fair.
And breaking news, I'm going to be an asshole for the next three days.
As in a moment of weakness and in an attempt to squirrel back some brownie points, I've agreed to a juice cleanse that starts tomorrow.
I was going to say you're doing it fast.
So what is this going to affect for us? Is it?
I don't think I'm going to be drinking coffee and I'm not going to be eating for three days.
So your mood?
Yep.
Stench.
Is there going to be some?
scent, yeah.
I think the toxins start to burn off after a few days of having no food.
You just start to eat yourself.
Yeah.
It's going to be awful.
And why are we doing?
Fine on date.
After the Thursday show, it was an effort to regain some points in the right column.
Right.
So you're going to do a juice cleanse.
In the middle of Christmas parties.
And then continue and then adopt this clean living.
All guys.
God, no, I'll be back on the boost Friday morning.
Yeah.
But Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday,
going to be tough around here.
That's your Pinda report for Village Honda.
And by the way,
Anthony and I got something Friday noon, kickoff,
Argentina, Netherlands.
So off the juice and into the boost.
Good for you.
Off the juice and into the sauce Friday and now.
Why are you, just because of your...
I was not in a position to say no to anything.
There was a lot of random errands that got completed
because it was better than ending up in half.
Hell. Village Honda, 76, 60, 310-Av, Northwest, VillageHonda.com, that $2 million
buy an event. They'll buy or use cars. They want used cars. Need them. You got them?
Got them, get them. Got them, get them, need them. Get some cash. Been extended until the end of
December. Let's take a look at our Betway bets. We go back to Friday and even Thursday,
because Ret regardless. He was rolling with the bills. Even if they lost on Thursday, he was going to go
with them. You want loyalty? You got loyalty.
That's right. We'll start, we can start
with me. I thought, I felt good
for a while, felt all right for a while,
had, uh, had the commanders at minus two and a half
or at minus, was one, one and a half. Okay, even better.
Line moved. Um,
they go to overtime and tie.
That's not covering one. That's not covering. One, no.
Field goals all you needed. The, uh, the Packers get a late
Christian Watson touchdown to, uh, they were way
back for a while. That's quite a rally there.
To get the three and a half and
the titan
got blasted 3510 by Philly.
Kind of thought that might have been a good spot for an upset of Philly.
It certainly was not.
You know what that is? That's the classic
Vegas knows what they're doing. Yes.
Give them just enough points to think that
it'll happen because we know Philadelphia's
going to kick the shit out of them. So yeah,
it's fair enough. So I go
one, four, three on the day. But the good
news is
I was the worst of the group.
Let's take a look.
We got Pinder, because you were also Pender, you were on the commanders.
You got, and you won it, which is, that's great news.
Wow, look at that.
I won the Washington bet that Dean lost.
How is that possible?
No, I won the Broncos one.
They lost by one, which is way better than nine and a half.
Steelers did win by more than 0.5, and Washington did lose.
So two and one again, two and one every week, but one.
That's certainly enough to earn a couple pints.
And retro, good on you.
You had the bills going in.
to Sunday. So all you had to do was get a couple more. The Detroit Lions, maybe a risky pick.
They won 40 to 14. Never a doubt with the kneecap biter. And for, as you said, for a good chunk
of that game, it looked like the bears were going to find a way, but some late points. You don't get
the plus three and a half. Close right. One for three and then a couple of two for threes.
Pretty good. Well done. Well done, gentlemen. Those are the Betway bets of the day. There you have it.
Just a few things.
We've got to get out of here.
I want to give some love to Vena Nova.
Just full disclosure.
We're going to be doing some shopping at Vena Nova.
I'm going today.
Are you really?
I'm literally closing the door and picking up my wife.
You're done.
It's in the bag.
Rhett from Buffalo is ahead of us on this.
Damn it.
Because I encourage you.
Go to check out their website, Vena Nova.com.
I'm going down to Stephen Ave.
We're going to check it out.
Lab grown diamonds.
diamonds grown in a lab.
Same chemical composition, crystal structure is natural earth-mined diamonds.
In a lot of cases, they are more pure, more just, I'm going to say more valuable.
Less imperfections is what you'll find.
Incredible.
Lab grown.
Go and check them out.
Online as Rhett did, Vienerova.com.
They have their beautiful showroom in downtown at Second Avenue, or sorry, second level of Stephen Avenue place.
where you're going to go.
We are,
we're getting a little bit of a head start on Christmas shopping.
It's going to be tough to screw up Christmas this year.
This is a fantastic start we're off to here with Vina Nova.
If you are struggling to get a gift,
you don't know what you're looking at.
You got to,
maybe you're getting engaged,
that whole thing.
And the best thing about it is not only are the lab grown diamonds,
in some cases more,
more beautiful,
more pure,
considerably more affordable.
In some cases,
up to 80% less than what you would pay.
So if you're in,
perfections and way cheaper.
Ha, ding, ding, ding.
Get on it.
Fiena nova.
Fienanova.com.
So there's, so,
so no excuse for us, idiots.
No, exactly.
Yeah.
To screw up Christmas.
We just fixed it for you.
I think you could probably get out of the,
that fasting juice cleanse too once you do the spender.
Yeah, this should win you points.
I've never done any sort of faster cleanse before.
I am interested to see what kind of a ghoul I turn into.
Yeah, me too.
Me too.
Again, I think ill-time.
Well, you should have consulted us before agreeing to this.
Yeah, well, I also should have done a lot of consulting
before doing other things in the last week.
Reminder, this is our last week on this YouTube channel.
We are going to our own Flames Nation YouTube starting a week from today.
So get on it.
Subscribe if you haven't already.
It is Flames Nation on YouTube.
Every day we will be there and maybe even for longer.
Oh.
Perhaps some showtime.
I'm going to amend some things, perhaps.
Might have time to bring in Rooch for a one-on-one.
That would be great.
Yeah, that would be great.
So show tomorrow, Frank Saravelli and H.L. Insider will swing by.
We will have our hot takes on tonight's Coyote's Flames matchup, which crossboard feel like got to be a flames win here.
I mean, clearly, Dan Vlodar.
Big, big performance, don't lose to these cats.
You take over the number one job.
Now you just got to keep it.
That's all.
That's all you got to do.
Right, Rhett.
Yeah, then we can trade marks from get the assets back.
I got a whole plan here.
That's great trade tonight.
Vladdy.
Will we have new,
will we have new artwork again tomorrow behind you on the wall?
I think we will.
I think we will.
I think we're going to get rid of the,
that one,
the non-Christmas,
whatever it is,
and put something nice up.
See,
we got the same photo.
Over by the tree.
There you.
See, there it is.
Inspired.
Totally inspired.
Beautiful.
Love it.
Yeah.
Have a great day, everybody.
Enjoy the game tonight.
We'll see you tomorrow.
Oilers Nation every day coming up next.
Oilers suck.
Eat lots tonight, Pender.
Oh, yeah, seriously.
You're doing, buddies.
Damn it.
It's going to suck.
