I will say, based on what I've gleaned off of social media,
this, a highly anticipated edition of Barnburner today for a number of different reasons.
I'm going to say, there's a few different avenues you could go down on why today.
It's such a sensational program.
I hope we don't disappoint.
There's a lot of expectation out there.
Oh, we'll disappoint.
I mean, it's...
But hopefully not more than you expect us to...
We're good at it.
It's a game day.
Get your helmet on.
It's a Monday.
It's Boomer.
It's Pinder.
it's Rhett Warner. We are here in the Tower Chrysler Studios, the luxurious Tower Chrysler Studios
this morning. And the Rettster is in Buffalo in whatever, I don't know what you call it. East Hamhurst,
is that what he says? I don't know that area. I've never been. Somewhere in the vicinity
of the loss sustained by the Buffalo Bills at the hands of the Cincinnati Bengals yesterday.
Now you missed Friday show. Rhett was in the process of security.
getting tickets for himself and the shoveler.
We need an update, Rhett.
Tickets were great.
Seats were wonderful.
We were, it was snowing.
It was beautiful.
The snow was coming down.
We were just under the roof.
We weren't getting soaked by the snow.
We had a heater.
Things were really lining up to be a lovely day.
Lovely day.
And then they kicked off the ball.
And after that, it was less lovely.
Because I know we talked on Thursday,
you were contemplating whether,
Daring.
Whether you were going to go to this game or save your dough
and potentially go to the,
go to Atlanta.
Or,
you know,
even just save your money for the Super Bowl.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah,
no Scottsdale,
no Atlanta.
Sorry.
Well,
because Jacksonville,
if they won,
it could be a home game in Buffalo.
Yeah.
How does this one,
how does this one rank compared to the last two?
Because none of them have been easy.
And the,
the photos have been floating around.
They had,
obviously,
the Stefan Diggs standing watching the confetti fly against, what was it, the Chiefs?
And then there was what happened to the chiefs last year.
This one, not as close, it felt like.
Yeah, no.
I think the disappointment came because they haven't been estomped for three years.
Yeah, 14-0-0-0 really took the wind out of the sails, didn't it?
And there was no threat ever.
Like it never felt like they were going to put on a charge.
It never felt like their defense was going to stop anyone.
Like they never felt, it never felt close.
It was, I mean, I guess you give the Bengals credit.
They were awesome.
They were.
And it wasn't like a, hey, there sure is a great debate about which quarterback's better now.
It feels like Allen's kind of been passed here, which is tough because that's the
superstar they've built this around.
Right? And you got out played pretty handily.
How are your emotions?
There will be plenty of people.
Yeah.
There will be plenty of people in the Buffalo area that they throw a lot of blame at the coaches.
Yeah.
And I heard some of that.
What are your thoughts on that?
Why would that be the case?
Because they didn't look as good this year as they did last year and they had changes
that coaching.
A lot of people don't like that Leslie Frazier.
They think that Dorsey's done a poor job of it.
Can't run.
Can't control the clock.
Can't make plays when you need.
but then Alan's got to make the plays.
Maybe it's not the call because if he's overthrowing guys,
whose fault is it?
Play caller or the guy throwing the ball?
So it wasn't good.
I just kept coming back to it.
Like, you're in Buffalo.
You know what Buffalo's like.
You got a great team.
You know what the weather in January in Buffalo's like.
And they can't run the ball when they want to.
That seems like a massive flaw in the big pitcher.
If you can't run the ball in January and you play in Buffalo,
what the hell are you doing?
The Bengals could.
Correct.
They ran the ball.
The Bengals,
mixing was over 100.
I think it was 19 carries for 63 yards.
You're going three a pop,
basically,
is what the bills did.
I didn't stop them at anything.
If you can't run the ball
and you have to play in January and Buffalo,
are you expecting to be able to air it out in January?
Like,
it was snowy,
it wasn't even that windy.
Like those were not ideal,
but those weren't bad kids.
It could have been way worse.
How do you build a team in Buffalo
that can't run the ball?
Don't yell at red today.
Don't yell out.
Not right.
I'm not sure that it was, I had any decisions.
I feel like he did.
I feel like Wrette needs consoling.
Rets absolved.
He's not responsible.
So now what?
It was, it was a sad joint.
I can tell you that.
I'm going to go out of their last.
Long faces down at old Richard Park.
Yeah, by halftime it was like, oof.
Because you just had, there was no,
you had no hope.
They couldn't stop them.
And they couldn't make plays offensive.
like it was just there was nothing to get excited about how was how was how was did you drink
do you have some beers i drank yeah don't worry about that yeah yeah yeah it's a tough it's been
a tough couple days so as i was saying so now what do you do as a buffaloonian now what happens
with you your spare time your weekends your sundays what happens well i'mickson was over a hundred on the
around.
Like I said.
I'll do a lot of nothing on Sundays.
Okay.
You know what they do in the States?
We're talking about it on Friday.
You see a lot of those NHL games flexed into the afternoons on Sunday where they avoid it like the plague during NFL season because you can actually get people's eyeballs on them now in the States.
Buffalo matinees, Philly matinees.
Get down to the rink a little bit more.
I want to watch them play the Anaheim Ducks.
Hoof.
They're bad, eh?
Five regulation wins.
Real bad.
Yeah.
Get back into bowling, maybe your shoulders, though.
Your shoulders is probably not good for the shoulders.
I might get back into couch mode the way I feel today.
Yeah.
You were saying in the pre-show, you're not feeling quite up to snuff.
You're a quart low.
Some of it you feel maybe self-induced.
Some of it you feel maybe a flu or a cold coming on?
Never know.
Never know.
certainly energy levels are very low.
Yeah, yeah.
Very low.
There's a depression, there's an energy level, there's a dehydration, you're hungover.
There's nothing to look forward to.
The bills are out.
Who cares about the Super Bowl in the room?
Where do you go in the pseudoscience world you live in for a pick-me-up on a day like today when you're a little low?
You might be trying to ward off some sort of infection but also hungover.
Is there a catch-all here?
Is there a pill or some sort of root?
of a tree you could chew here?
I would, I would, I would normally be heading for an IV today.
Okay.
I would be normally be heading for an IV.
Yeah, but you're not.
But I'm so, I'm so lazy I might not.
Oh, I push it off till tomorrow.
What about, what about a workout?
Go get a sweat on. Get some inspiration.
Should, but just, gee, no.
I think it's just I need sleep. Yeah.
I think it's a sleep thing. Okay.
Yeah.
All right. Well, we can start that.
maybe in an hour and 10 minutes or so.
Hang with us till then.
Tough start.
You got to raise your spirits.
Oh, right before the Pinder report.
Okay, thanks.
Tough start to the house.
Actually have some Buffalo footage in the Pinder report, so I wouldn't be not enough.
Did you guys watch the Bills game?
Tried.
Watch the Bills game?
Like you said, it just really didn't feel competitive at any point.
So it was like, we're still paying it.
I'm waiting for this big play on defense.
They've got to turn the field here, like, do something.
And it's just like any time there was like a half response,
since then he just came right back down and put
points back up.
I think Joe Burroughs pretty good.
Like he's really good.
I think he's better than Alan, perhaps.
It's a good team.
It's a good team.
Pinders got this big conspiracy thing or something that people are upset about
Alan or Burrow.
No, I...
It's fine.
He's good.
I think what was made of the game is like, look at these two star quarterbacks.
Like, what a showdown.
And it just wasn't close.
That's all.
It didn't feel the bills...
you'll remember because obviously you were there.
Like maybe at the start of the season, it was different.
But it never felt like the bills were, as you say,
as undeniable as they felt at times last year.
And they had these hiccups mid-season.
You're like, that's okay.
This is a good time to deal with these.
Then you get them out of your system, figure it out,
and then you'll be humming as you come into the playoffs.
But even then it was third string Skyler Thompson that, like, you know,
they needed.
to make plays down the stretch to beat.
They kind of, they were winning coming in,
but they weren't impressive necessarily, right?
They were barely getting by teams that missed the playoffs.
I think people really were hoping that you would be more bombastic today,
that you would be up in arms, that you would.
Well, how can you be bombastic?
How can you get the ball to Stefan Diggs only four times?
What are you doing?
Doss and Knox leads you in receiving.
We can't get the ground game to go.
Their offensive line is in tatters.
we can't get to burrow.
I just thought there'd be more vitriol.
Oh, I'm sick, and they got S pumped.
So it's over.
It's true.
I think that's the mature position.
I don't think you're throwing my computer
probably won't change it.
And they won't listen to me anyway, bastards.
So do you have snow in your yard?
Because usually if there's snow at the Bill Stadium,
there isn't at your place.
It was actually,
exactly how you would envision a Buffalo Bill's game last night or yesterday afternoon.
It was perfect.
Absolutely perfect, except for the lack of execution.
Execution.
Bill's couldn't execute.
All right, buddy.
Well, we'll move on.
There's no need to kind of just continue to wedge this in.
Do we want to, we want to see?
Sure, that's fine.
Yeah.
I mean, if it's here, it's a means of play.
Okay.
Well, we have it here.
Somebody sent us video of you prior to the game.
Is that the shoveler right there?
Hands on hips?
Well, I think shovelers taking the video on the phone.
So here's Retro, if you're watching on the YouTube, so you can play it, Alex.
I guess is this just outside, Rhett?
Because you would know where you were at this point.
So they're tailgating.
So you got to do.
Before we go through the gates.
So they're, all right.
So there's something in there.
So you chugged.
Funneled a beer there, I think.
Something.
Some kind of a beer.
funnel now.
Oh, he's going to spin.
You're using it as a, like when you spin on the bat.
It's going to get dizzy here.
This is the hard part.
Yeah.
So how many?
Let's hear them count it.
Oh.
Ouch, I know why you're down.
That's why you're not feeling well.
Oh.
Is you?
Exactly.
I didn't know that she.
Sheveler sent that to you.
You probably don't even remember that to be honest.
You looked like you were.
Oh.
There's a chance.
Oh, I guess it's a concussion.
Yeah.
You're going to hang over.
Or being hurt up top there?
Yeah, you could get an IV if you want.
That's why you're lightheaded.
You're fucking concussed, dude.
Maybe some frozen peas on the scalp today.
Jeez, ouch.
It was that kind of day.
I think it's safe to say that kind of day.
Meanwhile, here in Calgary, buddy,
coming off a big win over the Tampa Bay Lightning,
the 32nd ranked Columbus Blue Jackets are in town tonight.
It's the return of Johnny Goddrow.
his former stomping grounds.
Jonathan Isaki.
How could you be the 32nd rank team when Anaheim only has five regulation wins?
Well, and Chicago is actively trying to be bad and loose.
It has been missing Patty Kane.
14.30 and 2 is their record.
On the road, they have won three of 19 games.
Oh.
Only Anaheim and Chicago have scored fewer goals.
They're a minus 61.
Only Vancouver, San Jose and Anaheim have allowed more goals.
And yeah, that's how it's going for the Columbus Blue Jackets.
I don't know that this would be a good team if they were healthy,
but they sure are healthy and they sure are a bad team.
They sure are bad.
I didn't think they would be this bad.
I didn't either.
Zach Werenski, now I was going to ask you, Rhett, a torn labrum.
What is a labrum?
Have you ever, what have you done?
With your labrum in your leg.
Is it?
Have you torn it?
It's your shoulder.
You tore it?
I've not.
Actually, I think you probably have a labrum in your hips and stuff too.
You could probably tear a...
Maybe that's what it is.
A labrum of you.
I'm not sure.
Well, he's torn it.
Zach Wrenski's got a bad one.
It's torn and he's out for the year.
I was going to say season for him.
Jacob Voracek, concussed.
Don't know if he'll play again.
May not play again.
Ever.
Jake Bean, shoulder.
No confirmation whether it's labor.
It's a shoulder injury, though.
Yeah.
Chittacoff, ankle.
Conditioning extent right now.
So he's not technically hurt,
but he's making his way back.
And then also they have Alex Texier
in the player assistance program,
I believe,
for whatever off-ice issues are ailing him.
And he's a good young player
from France that they've really liked.
And just everyone's slotted wrong when he gone.
And the goaltending,
everyone kind of thought,
well,
if you could get one of those guys out of Columbus
and get them into your team,
they'd be pretty good.
They're still in Columbus
and they're not as good as they're.
Merz Lickens has had a horrible start.
And then Corporell
was looking okay.
Now he's hurt.
They're using Daniel Tarasov a bunch,
the big Russian kid that they like,
but it's very early in his career.
It's not been good.
But you know who's doing his part?
Johnny Goodrow.
Eric Cabrattie.
Johnny Goodrell.
Guddy?
No.
Guddy is being played as a top four defenseman.
I'll let you guess how that's going,
because he was awesome as a third pair guy last year,
and he's getting paid as a second pair guy this year,
and is such playing as a second pair.
And such the team is 32nd.
Yeah.
Why do you have to take a run at Good Bruns?
It's not a run.
It was a compliment that he was in a perfect role last year.
But you knew when he took the money,
he was going to be elevated there, right?
Would you have taken the money?
I think I would have taken the money.
Brett, would you have taken the money?
I would definitely take the money.
Comey literally took the money and went to Columbus.
He absolutely did.
He talked about it.
Like, I'm not mad at Good Branson.
It's just when you make that signing,
I think the moment we saw it were like,
well, they're not paying to be a third pair,
and that might not go as well,
because in his entire career,
when he was slotted top four, didn't go well.
Goodrow has 13 goals tied with line A for the team.
He has 44 points.
44, just a smidge better than Jack Roslovick's 26,
who sits second in team scoring.
It's more than the smidge, yeah.
He's almost a point per game, that means, just a shade under.
44 and 46.
So three points tonight, and then sure it does.
Is that what it'll be?
I hope not.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I've said it before, I'll say it again.
This is, it's, this is whole thing.
This whole thing is unfortunate.
It really is.
He should be here.
Should be here.
They wanted him here.
He liked it.
It should be here, right?
The whole thing.
He was ready to sign here at some point,
but just not necessarily even free agent's Eve.
It's almost,
it's kind of like,
I feel like it's a country song.
You could write a country song about this, right?
They got together when they were very young.
And then there was some thoughts,
are these guys really going to make it?
Are they going to, how are they're going to make this thing work?
And then it worked and they were in love and it was successful.
And boy, wouldn't you love to have something like what Calgary's got with Godro?
Look, they're going to put his number right up there right next to Lanny and Vernon and Jerome.
Right?
That's where they put it.
We'll be celebrating those anniversaries, the big, yeah.
And then what happened?
Yeah.
You know?
You wanted to make less money elsewhere.
Like things are good.
We're doing good together.
But maybe sometimes you wonder who else is out there.
What else is there?
You got to test the market.
I'm a free, you know, I just, I just, it's not you, it's me.
It's not you, it's me.
Did he take, granted, what he had here?
And you realize, maybe, maybe I had it pretty good.
Yeah.
But by the time you wanted to come back home, somebody else was in your bed.
That's the part of the analysis.
You get the early flight from San Diego.
go that one.
There's a Huberto in his bed.
I think.
Hubertos making his money.
He'd made up his mind where he was going before
Huberto was in the equation.
What I'm saying is he made his decision,
but even if you wanted to come back,
fucking Hubertos in his bed.
Farting in it right now.
Well, we could help him get him out of it
if we wanted to switch.
I don't know if anyone wants to switch.
I don't know.
Johnny signed for seven years there.
this is not good right now.
That does not mean the blue jacket's going to be bad for seven years.
You wouldn't switch,
you wouldn't take Johnny back over Huberto right now?
No, no,
I didn't say that.
I'm just saying when Johnny signed there,
it wasn't like we're winning a cup year one.
Like I think he thought they'd be a lot better,
but this is a young team that typically drafts
and develops while they're missing.
I think they'll be competitive at some point here in the seven years.
They'll have some runs.
It's just god awful this year.
But do you feel like Goddrow is sitting there thinking,
you know, next year we're at the playoffs.
I don't know.
I think it would be tough in the East,
but I think you could look at the young kids
they have in the talent.
They have and say,
we're going to be a playoff team in the near future.
I think there's,
they're 32nd, right?
You saw the standard.
Yeah, no, I know.
And we listed six regulars out.
If they get a thing too.
But I mean,
for a check is post apex.
Correct.
Yes.
Thank you, John Weisbrud.
I just, I think there's some steps.
I don't think you go from 30 second to playoffs.
I think there's,
well, now we're not as bad as we were.
and now we'll maybe flirt with a wild card and then maybe you get a wild card.
I mean, it's not like they were 30 second last year.
There's been a lot of misfortune that's found them this year.
I think if they were even just had the same amount of health as they had last year,
they're much higher in the standings.
But yeah, the east is tough right now.
I don't see them as a shoe in at any point,
except that they're just young and skilled and other teams are old and skilled.
Is there...
Be too old soon.
Is there a track record of playoff success for the Blue Jackets?
No.
I just feel like that whole thing is maybe it's that kind of when you wake up,
like Warner the next Morris.
Jesus Christ, what have I done?
Yeah, and maybe that wasn't a big factor in decision making.
I don't know that you end up in Columbus if winning was the top thing on your checklist.
To go back to my country music thing, maybe, you know, you break up and you go out there.
It's like, hey, I'm single.
I'm at the bar.
I'm putting it out there.
Ladies, hey, how are we doing?
Who wants to do stick?
And there's nobody here.
Where's where's all the
Where's the where's everybody?
Yeah.
Where my chick's at?
And there's no, it's like, oh.
All those guys in the bunkhouse
Already dancing with all the cute girls.
There's nothing left.
The hell.
There's one girl over there.
It's like, yeah, okay.
I thought you were bringing your friend.
No.
I told you she couldn't make it.
Can't make it, dude.
Really?
I thought it was just, but I got it.
Tonight's my night.
Where's that Philly?
We were talking about.
Okay.
Jesus.
All right.
Let's, you want to dance, I guess.
That's what happened.
well Eric's there and they're having a kid too.
Yeah.
That'll be fun.
So anyway.
It's anyway.
I just,
it,
the whole thing stinks.
The whole thing stinks.
You think of,
and you'll,
and tonight you're going to see it.
And I said it last year in the year,
I just,
careful what you wish for when everybody wanted to blow up the core and all of that.
You take for granted a little bit.
Because we were all here before Johnny.
When we were watching,
the late stages of tangay and even Iggy.
And it was just disinterest and it was boring.
You think, man, there's some people,
they go to watch Crosby every night or the skill that was in the league.
There are other teams that have high-end young skill.
And then this guy comes in and for the first one, two, three,
I mean, bring you out of your seat excitement type stuff.
Stand on your feet and roar over what he could do with the puck.
And careful when that's...
gone because everything changes. The look, the feel, everything changes, and it clearly has,
which is not to say if you're a flames fan, you're not, suddenly you're not because Johnny
Goddrow isn't there. Yeah, they're just missing a superstar bringing out of your seat talent.
And that's, that's what he was for almost the entirety of his whole career. The only time
there was a little bit of question was when he was next to a broken Sean Monaghan and Brett
Ritchie on the same line. Everywhere else he's produced. He's, he's an electric,
offensive player. They look different, teams play them different. The power play has struggled.
mightily without him.
What are they now?
23rd.
They're up one.
24th when we checked in last week.
20% is where their power play is.
Columbus is a power play is 32nd.
That's also dead last in the national home.
There's no one below 30 second.
He went to Columbus.
Like that's the,
you end up in Philly.
You end up somewhere else.
It's like, well, yeah, Kuch.
He's in Florida.
He's making the big dough.
Pretty good, pretty good.
Yeah, pretty good.
Yeah, and they're out of the playoffs,
but maybe they'll figure that out.
Johnny.
They're going to be good.
Less money.
Yeah.
In Columbus.
Yeah.
What the fuck?
Seriously.
The swear jar is available for sponsorship.
Please contact the Wolverine.
Because we can.
But it's truly, it really is a WTF kind of a scenario at the end of the day.
Because the flames had the money.
You can have the whole.
They should have signed them a year ago.
All of that.
Okay.
But even at the 11th hour.
Johnny could have should.
I think, yeah.
Here it is.
Here's the dough.
Here's what you want.
you want. Let's do this. Get your friggin number in the roof. Be one of the best. You're already
fifth in all time scoring with the team. Be one of the greatest ever play here. Own it. And now he's
kind of stuck in that mucky middle of franchise greats with all the other guys that left in their
prime like Newindike and Roberts and McKinnis and Souter and it's Gilmore. And it's not,
and you know what, it's not, I'm not taking a dump on Columbus. I guess what I'm saying is there was
no tie for him to Columbus.
There was no, A,
they're not first, they're not close to winning a cup,
they don't see, they're not a top team.
It's not a sexy market.
It's not where he's from, right?
The whole, I want to be closer to home.
You're kind of closer to home, I guess, but shitty.
Yeah.
And Columbus is a great, great place.
You talk to guys, yeah, it's not as bad as everybody tells you.
The rink's good, the fans are good and all of that.
Do you like football OSU's right there, I believe?
Anyway.
Or other things are on football.
Is there anything?
Do you feel the same way or?
I do.
I think it seems silly.
Well,
yeah,
it's silly that we couldn't hang on to him.
But I think we all wish that he just stayed.
I think it changes everything.
Who knows?
Maybe Chuck stays too then, right?
Certainly closer to staying.
I think it was a 100%.
There's no way.
They played last year.
Matthew Kachuk has a career year next to Johnny Goodrow,
finally on the same line,
and doesn't at least consider a little more staying than versus Johnny gone.
Well, okay, they were brilliant together.
It was instant.
It was the top line in the NHL by a mile.
He immediately said, I'm leaving.
Kachuk.
I think there was very much a decision to be made until Johnny left,
and then it was like, well, this thing's curtains.
There's no way you stay in now.
And on top of all of that,
you got Elias Lindholbe sitting there with a picture of
him and Johnny and Matthew
tears all over it.
And how much time left for Lentholm?
Next year is his last year. Is that right?
Don't want to think about that, do we?
Maybe I'm restricted.
Oh yeah.
It's either one or two more years.
Might be a couple, but either way,
he has not looked.
He's been fine, but it's like, God,
he looks like a guy these wingers aren't as good as last year,
and that's what he is.
I mean, no one ever said this guy was a 40 goal,
flirt with 100 points,
top line center in the league. They always thought he's a very responsible 200-footer that can shoot the puck.
And when he had two of the best wingers in the league, it was unbelievable. Now, he doesn't have two of the best wingers in the league.
He's got Tofoli, a very nice finisher, top six guy, and Dubei who's trying to establish he is a top six guy.
That is a significant drop. Just like when Johnny, when Linae was hurt, is playing with Gustav Nyquist and Boone Jenner.
That's why he's not on pace for 115 points this year. It's not as good as Kachlan home, right?
He's still at a point per game pace.
Close, yeah.
Right.
So is Linholm, though, to be fair.
True, yeah, just under.
Just a hair under.
It's just that last year,
they were so far beyond that.
It was career years.
And Matthew's the only guy
that's really had Monster Year
without the old band.
So 730 tonight,
over at the dome.
Congrats to Larry Tramere.
Larry.
Larry, going to be at the game tonight,
courtesy of Mad Rose Pub.
we, and I believe
game on Thursday, the next home game,
we've got tickets to give away for that one as well.
Chicago.
They owe the Hawks one here.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You play it three times.
Take five out of six.
That'd be fine.
Madrose Pub.
15 Royal Vista Place.
20 beers on tap.
Kid friendly, Saturday, Sunday, Mondays.
This isn't your average,
just kind of, what's get something out of the deep freeze,
throw it in the deep friar and fire it out there.
Burgers, pass the steak.
Full entree.
and serve some of the best pizza in all of Calgary.
Doe and signature sauce made fresh every single day.
You can go to their website, get it brought in with whatever you're skipping the whatever and the dashing with the food and whatever.
Skip the dash eats.
Madrose.
Dot Pub is their website.
It is next year's the final year of Linholm's deal that pays him under five.
Under five.
You think he'll want to resign for under five?
Not ideal.
Under 10?
We do know, based on info,
coming from the dome today that Dan Vladar will get the start tonight.
Is that surprise anybody?
I don't know because it's Columbus.
If this was a very tough opponent,
I was more curious to see who would start
because Darrell would want to use the guy he is the most confidence in.
This almost feels like a backup night anyway,
so I don't know how to read it.
Yeah.
It's a 30 second place team,
but it's also a big return night,
but also Dan's playing well,
I don't really have strong feels.
I'm a little shocked.
I just said it's back-to-back starts, I guess, is all.
And you're right.
If it's a different opponent,
it's probably worth getting into a little bit deeper.
But I was surprised.
I just figured getting Markstrom ready for the string of games.
There's three games left before.
He said a lot of things that really haven't been truthful when we look back at the old tape
from the rancher here.
And I think, you know, part of his thing is that he wants to message a certain way with
the media.
But also like he's just, he's been wrong and lied.
Not that I think he's meaning to her.
Like, ooh, we got you.
But it's just like, you're exaggerating.
three games left two this week, right?
And ones, the two are back to back.
So you would think if Lutter is maybe going to play one of those.
Yeah, they do Chicago, Thursday, Seattle, Friday, All-Star Break.
Fletar just play.
I'm fine with it.
He's going to get two in the next three, yeah.
He's going to finish with three of the last four probably, right?
That would make sense.
8-0-3 in his last 11 is Dan Flodar.
Let's go down.
I was surprised to see him on Saturday, to be honest with you.
Well, if you were surprised to see him,
And we talked about an afternoon.
Like, it feels like a low, or no, it's a Friday show.
It feels like a low watermark for the flames was after that loss coming home to Colorado.
And that's human nature because we all like heard RET say they were going to be fucking awful.
And they were.
And they, you know, it wasn't like they didn't try.
They just, it was the end of a road trip.
And Colorado looked really good.
I feel like that was a low watermark for like, oh my God, they're actually out of the playoffs now.
And like what the hell's going on here?
And they're not even playing this Pell Chay kid.
And they keep running out their goalie who's not as in good a form as the other goalie.
and Daryl in his comments both made it sound like there was no way Peltier would play in the near future
and that Markstrom was going to go on a run and he just literally doubled back on what he said that week
and put both of them in on Saturday and we kind of thought like it would be very Daryl-esque if he did do that
did you watch much of the game from Saturday retro I know your it's time change and is
I didn't watch it on I didn't watch it on Saturday I watched it yesterday morning
thoughts on the game and I know are pelche and the Pinder report when do we want to tackle that
I guess just thoughts on what we've I think afternoon game a little apprehensive
Tampa kind of looked like that tired team at the end of a road trip that we saw with the flames
not that long ago but still a huge two points as you say given the timing and certainly against the
opponent it was a big yeah I know I thought they played with well like Pinder just said the
Colorado game shouldn't be the measuring stick,
but they certainly had more energy and they skated and they were going.
I like, you know what I liked?
And I think it's been missing a little bit of piss and vinegar.
I like a fight.
I like some physical stuff.
I thought that was good because it dragged them into it and woke them up a little bit.
Yeah, there was this hunch we had on Friday.
They might come out with a really good effort on Saturday,
given everything they'd gone through.
They also get maybe a little boost from a rookie playing his first game.
I think the team likes Vlodar when you hear them do the starting lineup,
not that they don't like Markserman, but they know this guy's playing well right now.
It's not surprising them that he hasn't lost in regulation his last 11.
And you knew that you have to bring your best to beat Tampa.
It wasn't like, hey, we'll just go through the motions to get two points.
We're in Chicago on a Tuesday.
We're good.
No, you knew you had to work your tails out.
That was one of their better efforts of the season.
We'll move past it because I know we're going to spend some time talking about Pell Chase.
So we may as well do it inside the Pinder report because there was the post game.
You know, how did he get into the lineup in the first place?
What was the thought process behind it?
That wasn't possible.
That's not how it works, Dean.
It's not how it works.
They're not ten up.
They're not ten out.
So, right?
Hello.
So that's how that goes.
Pender is salty.
Salty.
Daryl's telling us how it is.
I mean, he's on the soapbox,
telling the media how things work.
And then two days later, they don't work that way.
Well, you mentioned it last week, near the end of last week.
Welcome to the program.
Welcome to the show, one of our latest sponsors,
our friends over at the Grey Eagle Resort and Casino,
the Grey Eagle Events Center.
Coming up this week.
Yeah.
You know what?
Christmas seems like it was three months ago.
I don't know.
It just feels like so long ago, so much has happened since then.
I looked at these dates, Jan 27, Jan 28.
Oh, and that's this weekend.
That's coming up.
Yeah, that's this weekend.
Streetheart over at the Great Eagle Events Center.
I thought of you when I saw that on the event list.
I've seen Streetheart.
Probably I need two hands.
Probably need two hands.
Really?
Yeah.
Just over the, given.
what I do, right? You're working in radio.
Where you were. So you're giving away tickets and you're
going to the show and you're talking to the band,
that whole thing. That's a big draw in the
markets you worked in prior to Calgary, right? Of course.
This is one of those bands.
They still bring it and if it's
guilty, pleasure, whatever you want to call it.
They are here at the Grey Eagle Event Center on Friday
and then this one is cool.
It's the legend, it's a tribute if you
well, and you know, it's a tribute band or whatever
they call it. Clayton Bellamy,
very talented guy. Canadian.
the legendary life of Tom Petty
featuring Clayton Bellamy.
Stories, music,
a must see for petty fans
and rock fans alike. And that one is on
Saturday. So what a weekend of
a rock and roll? Face Meltters
over at the Grey Eagle Events Center.
All tickets can be purchased at
Ticketmaster.ca. You can check
out that and more. There's more coming up in February.
Gray Eagle Resort and
casino.c.c.c.a.comasor.coma to buy tickets for those two
events.
A reminder, hey, flames are on the road.
You can almost check out the game there too.
It's a road game.
Easy enough.
That's right.
It's coming up this is what weekend they're on the road?
Friday.
Yeah, they play on Friday and then...
Seattle.
An extremely long break.
Extremely.
Extremely long.
We need some downtime, I think.
That break's just too long.
Yeah.
We don't, it seems we don't talk or that away from the show.
Do we want to have our post show meeting now, just what we're doing for next week or what the plan is?
What's up next week, Rad?
I don't know yet.
I got a call from...
I'm Scott Tinkler today.
I've got to check my...
Tinkles.
This is the Florida All-Star thing.
Yeah, that's right.
Yeah.
Finally got back to you.
It's about time.
Well, I don't even know if I made it, to be honest,
I haven't listened to the message.
It might be telling me sorry.
Can we listen to it right now?
I hope we drop some big F bombs in there.
I'm no idea what's on it, but...
Remember that night in South Bay?
Okay, well, yeah, I think it could be.
Hey, Redd, it's tinkles.
Your wife's not there.
You're not on speakerphone, are you?
Because remember that night.
Are you alone?
Who's with you?
All right.
Well, fair enough.
Fair enough.
Time for the Pinda report.
Brought to you by Village Honda.
The all new, 2020-23 Honda Accord.
It's the all-new generation.
You get excited for this when they make the big modifications.
They bring in all the new technology.
and greatest.
Latest and greatest.
Sophistication, sleek styling.
I like sleek styling.
You know, give me some of that.
Available features like Google Built In,
a spirited hybrid power train.
Later this month,
Northwest Auto Mall,
Village Honda, their website is, of course,
VillageHonda.com.
And for everybody up at Village,
time for the Pinder Report.
Yeah, all right.
Great to see everyone up at Village last week as well.
Good to see you.
You were Dean on the mic,
just so comfy and funny.
really had the room just like a piece of soft putty in his hand there.
It's great stuff.
Yeah.
Congrats.
Thanks.
One of our big trivia questions there at Village on Thursday night.
Well, you've got to test the people, right?
Yeah, prizes to give away.
You can't just be giving them out willy-nilly.
He won't draw tickets.
What's a lady's name that rhymes with Honda?
And we did a little more trivia later.
He did another name that rhymes with Honda.
These were the skill testing questions.
I don't want to put you on the spot right.
We would have accepted.
Rhonda
Sharonda
Maronda
they all would have
you know
they all would have
Honda
Honda doesn't round
with it
Anyway it was
I couldn't get it
but the audience
was great
good to see everyone
up there
Let's start with
Calgary Flames
Jacob Pellche
Not 10 up
Not 10 back
That's not how it works
makes his NHL debut
on Saturday afternoon
against the
two time
in the last three year
Stanley Cup champion
Tampa Bay Lightning
Let's hear from Peltje
on his debut
in a team
victory, or the better ones of the season, against the lightning.
Since I've been probably four or five, the main goal is to play in the NHL and tonight,
it was the first one, so it's great.
Yeah, he said a dream come true at the beginning there. We missed.
You may not know about this, know this about him.
Yeah.
Of course. I mean, I know, it's a dream came true.
A dream came true.
Since I've been probably like four or five, the main goal is to play in the NHL and tonight,
it was the first one, so it's great.
French.
Is that not Spanish?
Jacob Peltje,
French Canadian.
I thought it was Guadalajara.
Quebec City?
No.
Not bad.
Quite the solo lap for him as well.
I don't know if you saw that,
you know, this first game.
They let them have a little few breather out there.
I like it.
Yeah, why not?
Did you do that, Rhett, when you were a young punk?
Did they fire you out there?
What do you think of Peltier's debut?
No, no solo lap, no, uh...
Wasn't a thing.
Hey, young fella.
bunch of kids first game so I don't think we ever did it though when I'm trying to think back
of calling people up maybe once but it wasn't a now it's too standard isn't it I like it's not
like unique anymore that's for sure I feel like you'd feel bad if you didn't realize it was somebody's
first game and he's maybe I'm gonna get that solo lap they oh I guess I'm so I'm not a guess we're
following the goalies out tonight all right you guys go first then I guess fine that was good for
whatever, you know, have fun.
And everyone loved it.
First rounder, skilled guy, NHL debut.
And I mean, think about how excited Darrell must have been
because it was Walker Dewar's like third game or second game.
And he was like, oh, how excited the family was there,
did it the right way, four years of college.
Well, this guy is like a year younger than Dewar.
Think about how fired up Darrow would have been.
Let's have a listen.
What did you think of Peltier's debut?
What was that?
What did you think of Jacob's first few shifts in the NHL?
Jacob Pellier.
What number is he?
49.
49.
Six minutes, 35 seconds, 13 shifts, average 30 seconds a shift.
Got 43 seconds in the park played, played five minutes, 52 seconds, had one shot, goal, and one hit.
Beyond the stats.
What about the thing you learn just from being on the bench and seeing what the veterans on the team are doing?
It's the NHL, 21 years old.
Got long ways to go.
Well, that wasn't the Walker doer welcome to the NHL, even though Walker played
in the league a couple of years ago.
Rhett, huh, what, what's your initial thought?
Initially, I think it's completely uncalled for.
It seems a little over the top, I don't know.
But then on the other hand, it's like, well,
clearly he had a plan for this question and knew it was coming.
Yeah, that's certainly not to be mistaken.
Because there's two things.
He reaches for the glasses before the question's almost done.
Like, he knows what he's doing here.
Because as you can imagine, retro, it was, it took,
it caught some heat on social media.
It's been talked about for days now, as we're hitting into Monday here.
Is it a shot at the media?
I think partly, right?
Because he knows he's going to get asked about Peltier.
And he kept getting asked why Peltier wasn't playing.
But I'm with you.
You can, I don't know, I don't know.
It felt like a bit of a dick move.
For the guy's first NHL game, you probably could have.
but it's Darrell, it's not his way.
And at the same time,
but you know what?
Come on.
That was in his first game and he was gushing.
The thing people don't realize about Daryl,
you get him away from the rink and you get him around his family.
I mean, this guy, it's not like he's,
if you know the story of Daryl,
what he's done for his kids and done for Chris and all of that,
there's a heart there.
There's compassion and all of that.
He's a father.
He's a grandfather.
I just don't know why you can't allow this kid just to have,
I'm happy good for him.
A long way to go.
Yeah, you don't have to say hardly anything.
You didn't have to.
Right.
Like,
you don't have to risk that he's going to get a big head and all of a sudden be too big for, like, I just.
I also wonder, like, what are the odds, Rhett, that he said something quite complimentary directly to Jacob and was encouraging to Jacob and then went to the media and said this.
That's just it.
I don't, I don't like it because I don't think it was necessary.
and could have been dealt with differently,
but I would expect there's more to the story
than what the three of us
or most of the public have seen.
You hope that's the case, obviously, right?
Yeah, and so French Canadian hockey players notice this,
and maybe it's a coincidence that they're French,
Canadian, or maybe it's not.
I don't know, but there's George LaRocque.
That's such lack of respect, man.
Come on.
That's a gorgeous George there.
Next one, Maxim LaPierre, former Canuck.
Wow.
Does he know that he also had a hundred point player
last year in Huberto?
How do you make a young guy feel welcome in the NHL?
Time to go back to Jurassic Park.
So a reference to said her being a dynist or very old fashioned.
The problem with, you know, there's more to the story for sure.
If Daryl doesn't show us that, he's just opening himself up for criticism by many numerous NHL
reporters of, you know, significance, insiders, people that comment on the sport.
Like he's taking Ls everywhere that doesn't have to.
I don't know that he cares, but it's just, it's a really bad look that doesn't have to.
have to be one. Could have just said,
congrats on the kid. He's overcome a lot.
And you might be right.
He might not care, but it just starts to become
a pattern. And it seems like it's
what?
It almost, it starts to feel like it's personal. And again,
you don't know what happened behind the scenes, how it's
being handled, but it just, it's the same. Remember
when Hubertoe, he had the comments about when
Huberto left the game. I had taken a shit.
Yeah.
He just really,
it comes back to the original thing about
what does he want in a team?
He does not want young players.
And I thought about, I don't know why.
It didn't, you think of it at the time, but it's clear when Daryl made that we're not 10
up, we're not 10 out when he was asked about maybe shaking up the roster.
You know, tongue in cheek, Peltje.
He's been with the team for a couple weeks to get a game off.
We're not 10 up and we're not 10 out, meaning we don't have a huge cushion and we're
not so far out of it.
It tells you that that's in his mind, the scenario his team would have to be in for
him to contemplate putting young guys into the lineup.
Except two days later she did.
Then and only then.
If we were 10 up, then sure, I can give him a game.
Or I could, it's not based on merit or could your team use it right now.
He just, I don't know.
The guy's a Hall of Fame coach.
For me and for us to sit here and question him is, I mean, it's stupid.
But I just, and I didn't think he did Daryl a disservice.
He was flying around.
He had a shot on goal that could have gone in
on one of the best goalies in the game on this first shift.
Cool.
I don't know.
I just...
That would have been very cool, actually.
Yeah.
I just feel like things have changed.
You don't need to keep everybody down.
It's like the boss who's at work,
who won't hand out a compliment
because they're going to come into my office looking for a raise.
No, sometimes it's just...
It's about the mood in the workplace.
It's the feel for the workers for the boss kind of a thing.
Then you...
he's been around the media long enough to know that he's going to be in shit.
And whether you care or not, why bother?
Why cause a...
There's times where a coach at a playoff,
so try to take the...
Take the heat.
The attention off of his team?
This is not a situation where that's necessary, right?
Like, he's not taking...
He's creating a stir for no reason.
Yeah, he's kicked the horn as necessary.
It's easier for him to downplay it.
Whether you care or not, that's why I'm confused by it.
It's like, well, you're kind of...
of putting it you're painting a target on your own back for no reason and like you say that was a
set bit oh he had that he had in his mind what he was going to do when the media asked him about pelche
and his and his instinct was to not say anything complimentary yeah and i think it was lots to do
with sending a message to pelchie so much as this this felt like unfinished business with these people
that keep asking about jacobelch all the time oh yeah it was a good game for the cavalry flams on the
they win sorry go ahead right
I was going to say, I'd like read Trevor Lewis's stats at the end of some games.
If that's...
Yeah, you said it on Friday.
If the vets are so damn good, why are they in the standings?
He was asked about Lewis about a week prior.
He was talking about how he's a champion.
He plays with Good for the Kids and all of this.
That's not new.
That was my point on Friday.
It's like, this veteran BS is not working.
Anyway.
Brett, I don't know if you saw this.
One of the top players in the NHL, it looked, appeared as if to have suffered what could be a career or even life-ending injury.
Did you see Andre Vasselowski lost his head in this game?
Jesus.
See, I didn't think to play.
All our surveys, the fans resoundingly enjoy the new rinkboard ads, the digital ads.
Thanks, scare.
Just, I know it is, but I'll just ask.
Is this a backpack?
it's becoming one.
Okay.
Yeah.
I'm pretty sure it is.
The headless horseman looked good in that.
What round was he drafted in?
Yeah.
Another odd thing we saw at the dome that actually did happen and wasn't digitally removed.
A man willingly took off a Tampa Bay Lightning jersey and threw it on the ice for the team that has two cup wins in the last three seasons and happened to be a pal of surges, our boy.
Oh, no, really?
So let's, you lost game 46 of the season?
you're going to throw a jersey?
What the hell's going on?
The jersey tosses.
I don't even know if we need to show it.
It's a pretty hack.
I just wonder.
So we changed, turn the page from Saturday's afternoon,
big win over the lightning that makes you feel a whole lot better about the homestand
to all of a sudden emotionally charged game against the team right 32nd.
We've talked about Columbus Blue Jackets.
It's Johnny Goddrow's return.
A reminder, yeah, he scored a pretty big one last minute.
Look, he's coming in the rink.
He's got the phone buck out.
He's on his way.
If that airbag goes off, he's done for the season.
Johnny, high and tight.
If somebody tried to get into that driver's seat,
they'd like smash their ear into the top of the door jam.
I just hammered it on the steering wheel.
Ha-ha.
Short jokes.
Yeah, anyway, it just was a funny look.
Hilarious.
We revisit now.
Jerseys for warm-ups are going to be different tonight.
Take a look at these, Red.
It is the, what was it last night?
The Lunar New Year, I believe.
It's the year of the rabbit.
a lot of NHL teams doing different warm-up jerseys.
We showed you the Seattle one last week.
The Flames was pretty cool.
I like this.
The front is kind of a spin on the old shoulder patch
or the Walmart pajamas one.
And then if you look closely on the back,
there's some really nice details on the color.
You can see the little shapes inside the number.
I like it.
Have some fun in the warm-up jerseys, eh?
Good color scheme.
And I know you like to celebrate the Lunar New Year retro.
Happy New Year of the Rabbit.
A big thing.
Yeah, it took a lot out of me last night, actually.
Yeah, that's what it was.
Look at the standings real quick.
I know that victory felt good from Flames fans, but do not get soft here.
This is still a group out of the playoffs.
And luckily, L.A.'s dropped three or four.
They did win last night to snap a three-game skid.
But there's your points percentage of the flames.
I don't know you're going to catch Colorado or Edmonton.
They're both seemingly catching stride or hitting their stride.
It feels like L.A. is the team with the targets on its back.
They sit third in the Pacific.
So it's nice you got two points against Tampa.
You best be getting four against Columbus and Chicago to wrap the homestand
because Seattle's waiting on a back-to-back.
That's not good to look at.
No.
And if you go ahead and say they have a good homestand, it's like, okay,
well, they have two games in hand in L.A., four points.
They're one back on even turn.
But there's some work to do here.
You can't be showing up expecting points.
That hasn't gone well for this group this.
They've already lost to both Chicago and Columbus.
Let's go.
Well, there's the odd team not far behind either.
Yeah, that's fair.
It's not a huge cap to three back with a game in hand as Nashville.
NHL news.
It's a debacle in Vancouver.
Let's go to Bruce Boudreau's final game at home,
being serenated by the fans,
trying not to cry and saying goodbye.
The hockey world in a season that's been full of turmoil.
It's hard to imagine we will forget the chance of Bruce.
There it is any time soon.
And there is an emotional Bruce Boudreau behind the Canucks bench.
Yeah, and he's taking it in right now.
Thanking the fans.
Very emotional heading down.
Yeah, well, there is one of the winningest coaches in regular season in HL history.
That's tough watching the way he was treated by the Canucks.
And yeah, it is official.
They bring in Rick Tocke.
they're paying a lot of coaches, Red.
If you had a budget for a coaching staff in the NHL,
how much would you budget for a year?
Like, oh, I got, I can, let's go get some great coaches.
What should we spend on coaching?
I bet you it's not this much.
Just keep adding.
Well, it's lots.
Pierre LeBron, I believe, tweeted it as we wait for the tweet here.
It's, um, Bruce is going to, no, that's Kevin Weeks.
Bruce is going to make two and three quarters.
Travis Green still on the hook for two and three.
three quarters. Bruce is making two, excuse me, and it was Rick Tocket, two in three quarters.
Oh, smokes. Yeah, that's a lot. So that's seven and a half million on coaches. And never mind the
assistants. Hoof. And I get it. You know, anytime you have a chance to get Rick Tocket,
what are we expecting here, fellas? It's not like Rick Tocket has been paving the streets with gold
wherever he's been. He's had some rough rosters, but I just don't know that this is a sure thing top
echelon coach. He may be, but he certainly hasn't established himself as that in my mind.
This whole thing, this whole handling of this has gone over like a fart in church.
Yeah. Rutherford says, comes out and says stuff and then comes on and says,
I said too much stuff. Now I shouldn't be saying stuff. And it's like, you know, Bruce,
I thought we were tanking. We, are we tanking? No, we're good. It's as close to a debacle.
And I know you love to pile on, but even from a mile away,
because I don't really give a shit.
I can understand Canucks fans
who are disenchanted with their team right now
because it looked foolish.
And the thing of it is,
who doesn't love Bruce Boudreau?
If it was another coach who was kind of icy and whatever,
okay, well, you're a coach, you're getting paid.
Right?
Like who's, at the end of the day,
poor Bruce Boudreau,
here's two million to not work.
There are worst things in the world.
But because everybody loves the,
guy. It's, it really looks poor on them for sure. Um, and you know what? Like,
there's some great reporters on the Vancouver beat. So, uh, why don't we take, rather
than me try to tell you everything that's going on in Vancouver, uh, Rhett, have a listen as I think,
uh, one of our American counterparts in the media was trying to put a bowl on this thing in
Vancouver. Let's have a listen. Didn't need the sound. It has been fired by the Vancouver cancunuchs.
The team announced the change Sunday, less than a week after president of
Hockey operations, Jim Rutherford said major surgery was needed to fix the canoaks.
Rick Tuket was hired as Bodro's replacing.
Former Washington Capitals coach, Bruce Bodro has been fired by Vancouver.
Bois Boudro.
The team announced to change Sunday.
Tuket.
Tuket or leave it.
Right in the Tuket.
Tucket.
Yeah.
Jeez.
Good stuff, Fox.
Bad news.
Max Patsy ready.
He's done for the years, fellas.
He was back for two weeks,
and it's the same injury he suffered that cost him.
It looks like Carolina's like, wow,
there's adding another 30, 40 goal guy.
Look at them and poof just like that.
He'd gone.
Similar story for Josh Norris, thoughts and prayers to Alex out in Ottawa.
Tease and peas, buddy.
Tees and peas, man.
Norris shoulder surgery is going to end his season.
He was back for three games.
Oh, really?
Same issue.
Well, at least you know they took care of it properly
and he was ready to come back, right?
Ottawa wouldn't.
NFL, Rhett, we saw you,
spinning and taking a bit of a spill there.
Joe Burrow had this to say about all those tickets sold in Atlanta for the obvious, you know,
it's got to be Bill's chiefs for the AFC championship game.
We talked about it yesterday, just that chip on your shoulder.
Everyone talking about a neutral AFC championship game, not even thinking about you guys.
How much did that motivate you coming into this?
You better send those refunds.
I like this guy.
He's got some swagger.
That's not funny, Rhett.
I mean, that's not funny.
He's a dick.
That guy's,
he wears terrible suits.
He's an ass.
He thinks he's cool, but he's not.
I think he's cool.
Let's go to the...
Not cool.
You're very...
Not cool, Joe, Burrow.
Last play of Dallas, San Francisco.
Cowboys need a big play.
Not a lot of clock left.
Oh, my goodness.
Okay, there's only a couple ticks left, six seconds.
I mean, probably not a Hail Mary.
Maybe you find something on the sideline, quickly get out of bounds.
Let's go.
Here we are.
Dack.
Come on.
Now, big game.
Let's go.
Here we are.
Come on.
We're not done, Cowboys.
Final play, it looks like barring a penalty.
Just dump it under one.
And that'll do with the 49ers.
Back to the championship game.
Fool them.
Yeah, they definitely weren't expecting that, Dean,
but it also didn't work at all.
Hey, guys, speaking of T's and peace,
can we just have a,
just a moment of silence for Greg Keller,
our buddy, Greg, up at Bontan Meets,
Bontan Meat Market.
Cowboys, guy.
Had to, he sent me a photo of his,
Romo jersey, just kind of laying on the bed done for the year.
It's another year.
He's a big Cowboys guy.
At least won one playoff game.
There you see it.
28 Crowfoot Circle Northwest.
If you're up at Bontan, if you're in the neighborhood, maybe come by.
It's kind of like a visitation.
He's lying in states or whatever you do.
Yeah.
So show your respects for Greg today up at Bonton, Bonton Mead Market.
Eagles absolutely clobbered the New York Giants.
It was not close.
Here's the biggest highlight I took from that.
was it Jason Kelsey's got a kid.
They got a baby monitor.
Let's have a listen to the kid.
This is unreal.
It's better than the game stuff.
So I figure we go here.
Yeah, they're fired up in Philly.
That's a good looking team.
Not challenged at all.
And finally, Kansas City.
We shouldn't be surprised that there's an AFC championship game at Arrowhead
and that Pat Mahomes is in it,
although his health is certainly a big question.
He didn't look like he put a lot of weight in that in the second half.
And yet it didn't matter.
They beat Jacksonville.
fifth straight AFC championship game at Arrowhead.
That is wild.
It's a half decade of it all comes through our house.
Pretty impressive.
Good game coming up this weekend between them and the Bengals.
Nice rematch.
And I think we get to have the who is the best quarterback on planet Earth debate
for the next two weeks probably as a result.
Mahomes, Burrell.
You going to any of those games, retro?
No, I'm not going to, not wasting my money on any more football.
No more games.
What did you end up paying, by the way?
Don't ask.
It was getting steep.
How much for a pair?
None of your business.
What would you guess?
What would you pay?
I have no idea.
I've,
honestly, I don't, I don't know.
I have not priced out an NFL ticket in years.
Years, years, years, years, years.
Everybody playoffs.
Couple hundos.
Yeah.
200 each?
Yeah.
Oh.
It's all right.
Let's change the mood and tenor here.
Congrats to Brooke Henderson.
feels like she's like 22 or three or something.
13th LPJ title.
She goes wire to wire.
Canadian star.
Kicking ass in Florida.
It's like 13, man.
Like that's nuts.
That's incredible how many tournament when she's got.
And, uh,
crissier off to a great start.
And finally, uh,
look,
some people had bad days.
It sounds like Rhett had a rough Sunday.
Is that right?
You know, Bruce Boudreau and the Canucks have had a rough, uh,
Saturday Sunday.
Phoenix Coplay had a very bad Saturday.
Two goals on three.
shots, but just 39 seconds in, have a look at that goals against of 184.6.
What? That's got to be a record of some sort. Two on three happens all the time, but in 39 seconds,
that's, yeah, probably better on the bench. You did win last night after that little breather and
gate time on Saturday. And if you're thinking, if you're watching on YouTube, that that's a spelling
error, it's not. That is how they spell his name Phoenix. Fionics, not Fuenix. Yeah. So,
Fionics.
It's Phoenix, but
spelled unlike the city.
Now, you can't spell a name wrong.
A name could be spelled however you want to spell it.
It's a parent's choice, dealer's choice.
I feel like you're setting your kid up for a lifetime of...
Fionics.
It's a Fianx.
You know what it is?
I bet you the parents were hooked on fionics.
Very smart people.
Smarter than us, even.
You're very happy with yourself.
With you're hooked on fionics.
That's a bit of...
for Village Honda. Sorry. It was right there. I couldn't not. Village Honda wants to buy your car. Sell it to
them and get paid in 24 hours time. No hassle. Get your no obligation appraisal today. Village Honda
is, you know what? You know where it is. It's Northwest Auto Mall. And if I could give you the address,
76, 60, 310,000 of Northwest. But what you're going to do is you're going to go if you need to
know where it is. You probably got your phone. You're going to go Google or whatever, Maps, Village
Honda. Voop.
It's going to give you directions.
It's easy to do.
Go see Village Honda.
Go and see Anthony.
Go and see everybody up there.
As you said last week,
very nice people.
I had a Diet Coke.
It was delicious.
Good Diet Coke's up there.
Good to know.
Yeah.
Good Diet Coke.
Good DC.
It's a free plug for a mom and pop shop there.
Yeah, that's right.
Yeah, absolutely.
Absolutely.
Now, are you going to the game tonight?
No, we got After Burner tonight.
I know, after Burner tonight.
What? It's a very media, media, e question. But what do you expect, Rhett from the crowd as far as a response? There will be a montage, no doubt in the first TV timeout as always. We saw what happened with Matthew. There was standing, some cheering, and then shortly after the booing began.
Yeah, I think it was a very warm response. And then he was on the,
the ice and every puck touch you got food, which I thought was funny and probably actually
kind of appropriate. So what are you expecting, right? And that's what'll happen tonight. That'll be
exactly what happened. Isn't it? I would think so. I don't know that it be dramatically different
than Kachuk. I mean, it's a certain different circumstances, but I think still same idea.
I think the response will be, in terms of the standing will be, will be greater than it was
for Matthew. This is nine years of Goodro. Yeah.
and downs.
It just always felt like Matthew, I don't know.
Did you ever think that Matthew Kachuk was going to be a current flame kind of a thing?
But it always felt against the odds, didn't it?
It's always going to be a long shot if that ever happened.
Johnny, the slings and arrow is part of the core and all of this,
scored the big goal in overtime for the team to move on.
I just, I don't know.
I think that there were a lot of kids over that nine years.
that had their Godroo jersey and kind of grew up.
That's kind of like when you've not done a generation,
but that's an era of time that's kind of undeniable.
And he was exciting the entire time.
From game one, scores in Vancouver right to the end.
More often than not, he was well worth the price of admission.
He was a point per game flame, 609 and 602.
That's pretty rare error and has to go down as,
you know, if not the best draft pick all time, probably Theo,
given how late it was, the second best of all time.
210 goals, 399 assists, 5th all time in points for the flames.
And was the most famous Calgaryan from, I think, a significant stretch of time here.
There were not, there been a more recognizable person that called Calgary home.
And stinks.
It feels like a waste.
Doesn't it?
It feels like a waste.
It does.
not that it was maybe all our decision
certainly he was the one that finally decided
where to go so
but it does feel like an awful waste
that you pick him
where you pick up he turns out to be that
good you get him signed he's here
he's top five all time and you feel
like you've got a very strong
chance to keep him for and a
retire jersey and all of a sudden
gone
gone yeah
gone
poof
yeah
Well, I have something I want to try before really,
but let's do our betway bets of the day.
And actually, they're not our betway bets.
They're your betway bets.
We go back to Friday.
The weekend in the NFL, three picks each.
I think I know where retro would go.
I was trying to be solidarity.
Is that what it was?
No, the money was going that way too, which I didn't really get.
but.
So you go one for three
as the Jags,
nine and a half,
what would have that ended up being,
I guess, was seven?
Yeah.
Stinking Cowboys.
I mean,
I know they suck,
but they could have lost
by less than five,
no?
Yeah.
They were there.
That jaggs.
A checkdown late, really.
For the Jaguars,
the late turnover.
Makes you wonder
about the Chiefs a little bit,
too, right?
You go back to the bills
against Miami.
did they look that dominant?
I don't know.
The early line is Kansas City minus a point in Philly
minus two and a half in the AFC and the
championship games if you're curious.
And then, yeah, we'll go to Rett's picks as well.
He had the bills as well, of course,
because he always has the bills.
That was a no-go.
And then...
Oh, you took the bills, did you.
Kansas City.
But he did have the Niners.
So, yeah.
Boy, the Cowboys.
I was reading this morning.
Significant players.
Also for Greg, for Greg Keller.
Oh, you know what?
There you go.
That's our bet.
way bets of the day. Please bet responsibly. Get the app. Be over the age of 18.
and to be on Ontario. And all that. Um,
Brock Purdy now has the same number of playoff victories as Dak Prescott and Tony Romo.
Big save Brock. That's right. Gotcha.
Brock Purdy. That's going to be quite an offseason for the Cowboys. It always is.
There's something about that team. The drama. It's Jerry. I think a lot of it comes with Jerry.
He's the GM. That's a big problem. Is he, you know, McCarthy.
I think he said last night, Bacarthe, no, he's fine.
What did Zeke, what did Zeke have yesterday for 10 for 26?
You know what, Pollard had?
An ankle injury and free agency on the doorstep.
That sucks for a player.
And he was great for them this year.
Phenomenal.
Last couple of years, he just finally started getting them the ball more.
Oh, well, you know, drama.
Drama, drama.
What's going to happen in Buffalo there, right?
Who's out?
Who's leaving?
Blame someone.
I actually don't even know.
Did you hear about Stefan Diggs?
We saw him there motioning to the sidelines.
What WTF, man.
What the H?
And then he left the locker room before the coaches even made it back down the tunnel to get to the locker room.
One of the teammates said, no, no, come on, man.
You can't stop.
Whoa.
And he was still the first guy out of the room.
He goes.
Steaming mad.
Not easy.
He's a competitor, Dean.
We love competitors in Buffalo.
Mm-hmm.
He wants to win.
You can't be mad at him for that.
Yeah.
didn't look good didn't look great
be frustrated and stick around for a while
you know
it's beautiful this time of here
maybe you just hang out for a bit in Buffalo
must win game for the flames tonight
just to come back to that right
you know this easy right
you show the standings there the points being what they are
you cannot they you'll lost to them once already
guys fellas you've already
you've already lost
it was a I had to look because I was like
I jogged my memory on that game yeah a minute two in
the breakaway to Patrick Lines
scores. Well, that's not
ideal. Two nothing pretty good too.
What was it? Stone got the only goal on the power play.
They lost three to one. Two on 26 for Jacob Markstrom
was that game. Very forgettable, as it turns out.
Yeah, not ideal.
Got to win it. Got to.
Got to got it. And Johnny's in town, right?
I mean, he's here. It's your boy.
I don't know how these contracts work.
I feel like probably you
You play in the NHL
Can you get out of a contract
Can you make
Like can you kind of
Just opt for free agency
Do you still want to do this
Or do you have to kind of see it
Right through to the end
Do you get a redo?
I think you'd trade it for them
Yeah
Make a trade
Make a deal
Weaker and
Hubert O for
Johnny
Okay
Either way
I just think
We got to bend there
But okay
I think he's back at the dome.
You know, that smell of the dome.
It'll conjure up all those great memories for Johnny being back.
What's that small?
Being back in this, right?
All the,
all the great scents down in the bowels of the dome.
Yeah.
But we saw what happened.
We had to like it because the visitor's room is the shits.
That's right.
I hope they put a new fresh coat of paint in there today.
I want to get back down to the flames dresser,
and that's what he would want to do.
Well, we had the kind of the, it wasn't an altercation,
but it was, because I, you had viral there, didn't?
Yeah, I don't know what, what, it caught, anyway, it got some attention.
Talking about the story that Yuri Hoodler told me,
told us at the NHL Awards little kind of thing there,
and Johnny went on, on Twitter, I'd responded to it.
He says, well, I only eat cheese pizza.
I don't eat pepperoni.
Because I had said he was eating pepperoni pizza in the stories.
I only eat cheese pizza.
pizza.
If that details off, I mean...
Which I mean, I didn't know.
So, Johnny, I know you're watching.
John.
Big fan of the show.
Dude, buddy.
Fellas.
We got some pizza.
Yeah.
This is from our friends at Mad Rose Dean.
Look at this.
This is the...
This is the...
Yeah, don't.
Yeah, donkey.
Brand new at Mad Rose Pub.
The donkey cheese pizza.
Yeah, donkey.
We'll fire the...
these over to the dome every day. We'll send them over every day. Just come back. Just come back. Talk to
tree. You don't have to peel off pepperoni. These are just cheese. We're sending them in hot.
Talk to Yarmo. And let's figure this thing out. Look at this. Talk to Yarko too. Hey, Rhett.
It's just cheese. It's only cheese. Yeah. There's no pepperoni.
You donkey. No pineapple, none of that other stuff. Just cheese. How is it? It's really good.
I think my kids would like it.
I think, you know what, I bet, and I think it's not just cheese.
There's multiple cheeses.
Really?
Yeah.
Oh, it's like a blend.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah, it's a cheese blend.
Okay.
They make this dough fresh daily and the sauce, John.
Come on.
Come on.
It's your donkey from Madros.
Come on.
I don't do that for Farmerger today.
Done today?
Can you share that?
Is that all yours, you donkey?
Is it a show tonight?
Got to listen in?
Yeah, after burner.
Make sure you're enjoying for afterburn.
Okay.
All right.
I can see why he likes cheese pizza.
Is it pretty good?
Nothing in there scares you?
No, it's pretty good.
Okay, good.
Me and Johnny.
Me and Johnny.
Me and Johnny. Together.
Let's do this, John.
We'll figure this out.
We'll see you tomorrow on the program.
Bye.
Until night for after burner.
That's right.
It's really good.
