Starting point is 00:00:13 Jumping right in, we are from the live, if you're listening live and watching live, if not. We're on demand as well. It's very much in-demand and on-demand from the Tower Chrysler Studios Consumer Choice Award winner. Calgary's favorite Chrysler Dodge dealer. It's our favorite, not even close. I can't even think. I only know one that I could really address. Yeah, that's right.
Starting point is 00:00:37 So definitely your favorite. It is Barnburner on a Wednesday. There's Retro. There's Pinder. The Rettster. The Redster. We're still going with that. Actually, I would like to switch my Twitter handle to the Redster.
Starting point is 00:00:51 Is this a possibility? Can you do these things? Well, now that you've said it, someone's going to have a chance to block it. You would go into your profile. Whatever. And then feel free to block me. You have a name and a handle. It's really going to change you.
Starting point is 00:01:04 I don't mean block you. I mean, like, block you. Like, go get the Rettster before you can go get it. Block you. Catch you off the pass. You got the Rester. And you got to be the Rester 44. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:14 Wow. Well, here we are. We had a nice little chat about syphilis before we got started. Tell me, the pre-show's hot. Someone's going to buy the pre-show. It's going to be the best deal. I like the pre-show. It's not a lot different than this, but it's,
Starting point is 00:01:30 but I dig it for sure. Pre-show is better than this. Yeah, it is. Because now we've got to talk about the flames and the Winnipeg Jets. I feel like we've already done that. Can we wait on that? Is it a rush to get to that? No, no.
Starting point is 00:01:43 I ordered Thai food last night. It was phenomenal. Okay, give us more. Give us more. What's the order? I'm home alone, so there's no damn way I'm cooking. And my significant other didn't grow up on Asian cuisine. It's not something they ever had or ate.
Starting point is 00:02:05 So I don't get it often. So when I get the chance, I like to go with it. I was going between Chinese food at the Jinjin restaurant. Jin Jin or Thai food at the Roma Thai restaurant, both, which I've never gone to, went with the Thai food, had a, which sounds a little bit like a Chinese food, but I had the sesame chicken. Unbelievable. Not just drowned in sauce, actual real chunks of chicken, delicious. I had to go with the traditional pad Thai because if you're a Thai,
Starting point is 00:02:39 restaurant and you don't make a good pad tie you're out it's a measuring stick you can't make pad tie i can't be ordering from you if it's tie food it's you got to be able to hammer it's a pad tie drill it so then i and then i ordered some uh panang curry and let me tell you spicy spicy spicy delicious what uh i just love the energy level when he's talking about food like there's just an excitement, a joy, a joie de vivre. He's just at his most satisfied when he's talking about food. Do you have a favorite? Do you like the Thai, the Vietnamese, the Chinese?
Starting point is 00:03:20 Do you find enough difference? What do you, what's your go to? I adore Vietnamese subs. Just love them. Like with the, what, the Julian carrots that have been pickled and you get, what's the the Bonme? And cilantro. The bun,
Starting point is 00:03:38 just... The bun is the move for sure. And so I've definitely helped put somebody's kids through college at that place across from my high school and near the places I drink all the time. It's been a lot there. Now, what about... What about the, uh, that soup joint we went to? What is that...
Starting point is 00:04:00 Oh, the, uh, war one ton. Dean loves a good war one ton. Well, you heard some room. It wasn't more wanton. It was that place over in Bridgeland we went to. Oh, you're talking about ramen. You're talking about ramen. Yes.
Starting point is 00:04:13 Ramen is Japanese, I believe, at least like they're known for having the best. And that's, you know, very, very precise ingredients down to the bowl. We don't sell one more. We don't sell one less. Last bowl sold. We shut the door. Like it's, yeah, I remember we, for my staguer in Tokyo and it was like 3 a.m. Some dude making the best ramen you've ever had.
Starting point is 00:04:35 in your life. That was his life's mission to be the greatest overnight ramen cook in the world. I think he nailed it. He's good. What are you doing over there? I was stuck in your phone here. No, I'm looking at Pad Thai. I'm looking at Thai food. I, ignorantly, I'm not that well versed in Thai food. Very fresh. I love it. I think you would love it. Less sauces and more just like great flavors and spices. My wife loves Thai. And they say, so I've been to Thailand and I went to Chang Mai and I'd did a cooking class for a week there. And let me tell you, if you take your time and do it, the way they taught me, it is phenomenal.
Starting point is 00:05:12 Yeah. So the reason that they say the Thai and the Vietnamese is because there was a French influence at one point. Yeah, sure. So it was kind of a combination of the cultures and the foods. Get on some trading routes. You get some, some colonization attempts that leave you with some better recipes. Where you go? I adore Vietnamese.
Starting point is 00:05:29 You got to try it, Dean. Yeah. The fah. So, yeah. Yeah. The War Wantan Kings, free shout out. Free shout out. Which isn't, I don't even know if they have kings anymore.
Starting point is 00:05:40 It's like the Wantan King. Well, and we'd heard last time we're up at our buddy's place. Madrose Pop apparently. They've got an incredible war wanton. That's our next stop. Next time it gets cold, we're going up there. Do you? Is it deadly?
Starting point is 00:05:52 Next time it goes under minus 20. I don't need that. Let's go today. Okay. Whatever. Yeah, I love, again, the soup. I love Chinese food. I love the ramen.
Starting point is 00:06:02 And so yeah, I don't, I don't know why I've just never really got to the tie. So really similar to Vietnamese. Yeah. You're going to love it. And here's the next question. So I had to throw it out to a buddy that the shoveler used to bartend with. And now our kids are best friends. Anyway, because he owns a restaurant and a bar.
Starting point is 00:06:25 And I'm like, hey, where's a good, where's a good joint order, Chinese or Thai? And he recommended these places. And then he said when he orders from the Chinese place, he orders spicy beef with scrambled eggs. And I shook my head and disarray and had to gather myself. I question him on this and he swears by it. Now, when you guys order Chinese food, do you step off of the mainstream, like the ginger, You go off of the ginger beef? Do you do the Mushu?
Starting point is 00:07:02 Do you try these things ever? And should we? I don't. Should we? Because how the hell would I ever order spicy beef with scrambled eggs? I am a bit of a coward when it comes to the Chinese food order. We've kind of found the little pockets that everybody. Now keep in mind, you got kids and you need them to eat.
Starting point is 00:07:24 You don't want $80 worth of food that two people or one and a half people. or one and a half people are going to be eaten. But yeah, it ends up being kind of the... The staples. The staples, yeah. I'm not sure about... So maybe this is... And I know what?
Starting point is 00:07:39 I trust your bartending with your wife back a few years ago. I'm sure nothing happened. Friend of yours. Yeah, her sidepiece there. That was a good recommendation. I'm sure it is very good. But I'm not... Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:55 Can we tell us into the pre-show? Yeah, that's the pre-show. I'm not sure about eggs other than being eggs. I know it goes into chicken fried rice, but I don't really make chicken fried rice. People, all, you got to have that fried egg on your burger.
Starting point is 00:08:08 I don't know if I do. I know what an egg tastes like. I don't know that I need it on a burger. Yoke on my jacket? Get out of here. I don't know. I really like eggs, but I...
Starting point is 00:08:16 As eggs. Hey, you know what, eggs? Just be okay with being eggs. But I'm not saying specifically that you have to order an egg dish from the Chinese. I'm saying do you ever... ever go off the mainstream map. Like they've got the combos, right? The five person combo or the four or six or eight person combo,
Starting point is 00:08:35 it's pretty standard. You get the fried rice and you get a wonton soup and you get an egg roll. Like, do you ever just look at the menu and go, you know what? Give me something off the beaten trap. You know what? I want something different, something unique. Here's what I need. And it's been my experience in the last 15 years.
Starting point is 00:08:53 You need a Rhett Warner in your life. You do. You go into a place where Rhett says, your menu. Don't even look at it. Just don't. I'm ordering. I know what this is.
Starting point is 00:09:01 Yes. And then bam, the food shows up. You've done that before with sushi and different. What was that? Where the hell were we? Was it Boston? That tuna that we had in that speakeasy thing in the middle of the night? Yes.
Starting point is 00:09:17 What was that tuna? Yes. I forget, but it was so good. Tuna. It's so good. It was like a tartar, but it has. It had a name to it.
Starting point is 00:09:28 It was this weird place. It was kind of a speakeasy on one side. I guess it was both, but they had the food on the other side. We just sat there and ate raw fish for hours. It felt like it was so good and charged it to hugel that prick. So this, I think, is what we're losing today. It's like,
Starting point is 00:09:43 you order to your house, you're like literally scouring the menu. Maybe no feels you never even sat in the restaurant. You go into a place. You got to talk to people that work there, that cook there, that live there, that own the place.
Starting point is 00:09:54 Like, I know you're selling lots of this and that. but like what's your favorite dish that you don't get sick of? Or hey, if I've tried the staples, where do I go next? Because it is crushing. When you go off the beaten path, you order something. It shows up. You bring it home or whatever.
Starting point is 00:10:09 Oh, it's no good. I don't like it. It's to this or it's too that, right? Heartbreaking. It'll ruin your week. You need a Warner in your life. You need a ready to be back. We need to order some off the menu.
Starting point is 00:10:22 Let's go. Well, once I get the syphilis test cleared up, I should be. So the test has to clear up or? Wow, both maybe. We'll find out later today. Stay tuned. Or TB. It could be TB.
Starting point is 00:10:37 Who knows? Which is worse. Things you don't want to have to deal with. I don't know that any of them are, I haven't got the power ranking sort of. I feel like a general teddy is probably the best thing you can do. The whole general teddy. You know,
Starting point is 00:10:48 my last two searches of my phone were syphilis and pad tie. I should probably just stop. So how was your vacation? Google's thinking. Where are you? You got a ping pong tournament? Right, right. I wondered why the nurse was so
Starting point is 00:11:06 quiet and strict in the room. I'm like, geez, not a lot of friends. No small talk here, hey? I'm like, oh, yeah. Wait, I get it now. She's just kind of, she's got the chart like to come in from the foot of the bed there. Birth date.
Starting point is 00:11:27 Health number. Remove your shorts. Just all business. Doctor, doctor, can we get a doctor? So have you ever been to Lake Placid? No, not going there. Never. Never been.
Starting point is 00:11:41 Speaking of Mad Rose Pub, our next chance to win Flames tickets. A $50 gift card to Mad Rose. The gift card we keep forgetting about it. We always talk with tickets, but you're also, you can do your pregame, you do post game. You know about the gift card. Gift card and a pair of tickets to the game Friday night. New York Islanders in town, fresh off a shalacking of.
Starting point is 00:11:58 of the Vancouver Canucks last night. They Charles won nothing. I have no idea what you're talking about. So yeah, Madrose Pub, hooking you up with tickets. Three games throughout the month of January. Your first opportunity. We'll give those away tomorrow like you've been saying.
Starting point is 00:12:10 We want to give people some time. Yeah, you gotta get a babysitter or whatever. You find out at two in the afternoon. You got tickets. Like, I got a civilist test. I can't be going to that game. I got the gonorrhea. Switch that if you gave me another day's notice.
Starting point is 00:12:20 Got the crabs. I got to get cleaned up before a puck drop. Give me some time here. Flames last night going to Winnipeg and no. Wheeler, no Eilers, no Schmidt, no Stanley, Perfetti, no Appleton. They lose by a score of three to two, but the Jets did have
Starting point is 00:12:38 Carter Hellebock. I noticed him. Felt like he was the best player on the ice and I had a tough time thinking who would be close after him. Probably Markstrom. Markstrom was back. Pretty good. Backland was good. I think they finally got rewarded the goal.
Starting point is 00:12:55 They were kind of snake bitten for a while. Eight shots, Dean was saying in the post game. last night. The witch? Yeah, the post game. Was I, unmiscaling last night? Did I, why do we're looking at me
Starting point is 00:13:06 like, we did a post game last night? Is there a post game? Are you say, did you look a frog? What is, what am I looking at right now? Is there? I wasn't high.
Starting point is 00:13:15 I was sober. Is there a post game show? Ladies and gentlemen, the next, the next wave of podcasts on the nation network, our group and our company and our family of podcasts. After every Flames game...
Starting point is 00:13:32 School nights. On school nights. After Burner. We'll come on... We're still... Last day it was kind of a soft launch. We didn't really want it. We didn't know if it's going to work.
Starting point is 00:13:40 What kind of hiccups are you going to have? We should have soft launch this show. Remember the show that didn't happen on October 11th? That's right. We really should have done that. So we thought we'd soft launch this one and it went well. When we didn't soft launch, it didn't go well. Yeah. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:13:50 We'll figure that up for our next project. So basically what it's going to be, it will show up on your YouTube. Again, subscribe to our Flames Nation. YouTube channel because more shows, more episodes, a lot of stuff's going to be coming up on there. And this is- Shorts up though. I don't want to interrupt you more than I already do. But like there's the next little like 45 second clip is and like here's a minute and half of this.
Starting point is 00:14:12 You can fart around in there and find all kinds of cool stuff. Rotating hosts, our next show for After Burner will be after the Chicago and Calgary game on Sunday, which means Monday morning you're on your way to work. You download that sucker. Put it on your commute just got better. It might already be downloaded if you've done. If you've done the automatic. You wake up, ding!
Starting point is 00:14:30 Oh, a new afterburner. Look at this. That's right. And there's a rumor. We may even have Rett's after burner debut on Sunday. Pending some testing today. If the syphilis is good, he's in. Soft launch.
Starting point is 00:14:48 The syphilis test is key. If he's past this, he's in for Sunday. We look forward to doing this after these games. Having some fun with it. The flexibility and freedom and just everything that we can do with this show, we will do with that show. It will not be your traditional postgame show. It kind of was last night. A little bit here, a little bit there.
Starting point is 00:15:09 We weren't even sure if we were going to publish it. We were more thinking, the lights, the cameras, the microphones, is everything working? Because I will probably be from home. You will be mostly here because you live so close. Warner will be in his home. There will be rotating hosts, as I said. So it was kind of a technical thing. I'm somewhat concerned with that green light because you have a greenish tint to your skin tone there.
Starting point is 00:15:33 He's at the club. I don't know if. It's my light. I have a very big light. I need a gel. I need some diffusion. Not to feel. I've got a different.
Starting point is 00:15:45 I need to, it's the tint. So it's actually a yellow light. Or get a tan. It's bouncing off the. I'm not, am I that pasty? It sneaks up on us.
Starting point is 00:15:54 It's January right now. How long has been since? You're rolling around, tarps off. Yeah, it's been a while. God, Arizona was good. I was there for so long. Remember what I didn't have a job? Dude, it was in the middle of summer.
Starting point is 00:16:04 You kept going back down. I'm like, man, are you, like, weren't you just turn into a raisin down there? You'd be a California raisin at the end of this? Yeah. So anyway, Halebuck was pretty good. It's great. And we threw it out there last night.
Starting point is 00:16:18 Like, where is he on the hierarchy of, we're all starting from scratch? Through all the names in the middle. You're building a super team? Like, where is he on the goalie list? I think he's a lock for the top five and you could make a strong case for top three. I wouldn't even throw my hands up
Starting point is 00:16:31 if someone said that's my guy right now. He's 29. I think he's matured quite a bit since I feel like he lost the head games battle with Mark Andre Fleury and that Vegas Winnipeg Western Conference final in that inaugural season.
Starting point is 00:16:44 That's kind of a weird. Yeah, that feels like a lifetime ago. Yeah, it wasn't that long ago because it's Vegas fifth season, if I'm correct? So it's like four years ago, four and a half years ago. But like that's a guy that has carried the mail and a lot.
Starting point is 00:16:57 It's not like he's been in platoons. And unless he's fatigued or playing for a third time in four nights, like he's generally going to be the best goalie on the ice all the time. Now, that said, I don't, Retro, I don't think that the flames were clearly the best team, that they dominated the jets and it was only Hellebuck. But it wasn't. You're, I guess you mentioned back. Eight shots on net, had the goal, had that two-on-one short-handed chance.
Starting point is 00:17:22 And I save, I think a blocker's side on Hellebuck. But I guess your thoughts. on what you got out of the flames. You said it yesterday. It's going to be a lot of three, two games. Well, there's one. That's what Daryl's been saying for years. Yeah, I know.
Starting point is 00:17:33 Then that's the problem is that this team probably isn't going to score more than three. So for race to three. I thought it was a good hockey game. There was an entertaining game. I thought they went back and forth. There's a pace there. They generated enough chances.
Starting point is 00:17:45 Yeah, they generated enough to give themselves a chance at winning. But you're right. They didn't. I don't think they clearly dominated in a fashion where you walked out of Winnipeg going. man, how did we lose that game? I think it was a competitive game. And I think we underestimate
Starting point is 00:18:00 because Winnipeg shit the bed last year. I think Winnipeg is probably playing where they should be. I think Rick Bonn's done a great job too. Yeah. I think they got sick of Maurice. I think it got stale. I think the coaching change has helped. He's the greatest coach ever,
Starting point is 00:18:20 but it's obviously made a difference. And I think they're playing probably more to their potential this year than they were last year. Yeah. Missing guys too. I loved their team last year. Their depth with Dubois, if he's playing hard. Like that's, like you said, they had a bunch of guys out.
Starting point is 00:18:37 This is a tough out come to playoffs. And hopefully shovel, well, if you're a Jets fan, hopefully you're shovel day off learned from a couple years ago when he should have added a defenseman. Who did he go get? Jordy Ben. Two years ago.
Starting point is 00:18:53 That's right. Yes. Sorry. that's not going to cut it. So you got yourself a seven. Congrats. Guys are sitting in the locker room. All right. Who are we getting?
Starting point is 00:19:03 Who's Chevy bringing in? All right. Who is it going to be? Jamie Ben, not bad. Ben, okay. Big dude.
Starting point is 00:19:11 It's a big boy. Awesome guy. Are Dallas? I thought Dallas was a pretty good. Weird. Captain, not sought. Oh,
Starting point is 00:19:20 Jordy. Oh, is that it? That's all we're. Thanks, Chevy. that's a spare. Appreciate you. They should have got Gio.
Starting point is 00:19:29 Yeah, we talked about Gio that year. Well, he was available. Good of a fit. Was he? Oh, yeah. On our show, he was. Fuck. He's been available for Rett's mine for a decade.
Starting point is 00:19:39 You know what? You brought up Dubois, and I was going to mention him last night. I like that guy. There's some... He was strong. Piss and vinegar and into him. Strong.
Starting point is 00:19:49 I think it was Dubet, went into him with some authority. There's just like, nothing. Nope. Because I was just looking. 6-2-205 is what they have him listed at here. That's, if he's 6-2-205, he's got good edges. He is a solid dude. Still just 24 retro.
Starting point is 00:20:05 And I think they have that offseason coming up where it's all, you know, you know where he wants to play. Yeah. That's going to be an awkward party. Like it was with Truba, like it's been with other guys there. That's the problem. Those poor bastards in Winnipeg right on that team. How do you keep everybody happy? You know how? You draft and develop. Like, that's the only reason this seems really good because you're not bringing in a high-end free agents and you're not going to be able to keep guys beyond age 27 when they can walk for nothing with much regular. You're going to have a better chance of keeping guys though if you're winning. Yeah, for sure.
Starting point is 00:20:38 If they feel there's a chance. So that's big too. It's not even watching the game. I'm looking at Lowry going, I can't decide if I applaud you because you've really embraced being a Western Canadian and you're just settled into Winnipeg. Or if you're sitting at home going, son of a. really. I've had to spend the last eight years in Winnipeg.
Starting point is 00:20:59 He's only got three years left on that deal. And you said 27. It's not 27. Linae got out at 23. Oh yeah. I mean Truba got out. They forced their hands sooner than that. DuBois's 24 because that's the thing ordinarily. If you were a team
Starting point is 00:21:15 you drafted a guy, you knew you had them until 30. You didn't hit unrestricted free agency until 30, 31. You pretty much had them over a barrel. Not anymore. Now it's seven years of service time, which if you can jump in the league right out of your draft year, that's due 25. You can, you got all, and then that means you got lots of leverage at 24, that's second contract. You can put them over the barrel a bit with a high QO.
Starting point is 00:21:37 Like, yeah, there's been a lot of move from the owner's side of the player's side in terms of leverage on those second contracts and such. And that's probably great for players. But what it also means is if you're the 32nd coolest market to live in, it's going to be tougher to retain talent. And you have to have a pipeline. and that's why they don't often move their first of the deadline. You know, they have. I think they brought Andrew Ladd in at that price, and that probably didn't go great.
Starting point is 00:22:04 But they've also recuperated one. I think they sent Stasnia out to what, St. Louis one year for a first. But you have to be draft and development champions if you're Winnipeg. You're not going to be able to just go bring in. Oh, look, hey, it's, who's a good example? Horvatt's a free agent. He's going to come in and center us and score 35. So is that not the case then for Calgary as well?
Starting point is 00:22:28 No, because I think if you're a Western Canadian, Calgary would be near or at the top of the list. Like they've gone out and got Markstrom top of the market, goaltender, Tanev, top three defensemen on the market. Coleman, you know, top checking forward on the market that year. I sort of view Hyman's offense and Coleman is defense. I was the same office. Calgary is in front of all the time. It's, I don't think you're going to say Calgary and Winnipeg are the same city. They're just different provinces.
Starting point is 00:22:52 One feels much more cosmopolitan and has more than like three gates at the airport, right? If they have an airport, I don't even know. You just saw a bunch of guys leave. Right, but we've seen lots of guys come too, is my point. And it wasn't like the new guys didn't extend. And I know it doesn't matter, but you paid, you paid for all those guys. Yeah, I know. Well, Codier came in, right.
Starting point is 00:23:12 He could go anywhere. And yes, you have to, if you're going to win someone to free agency. He couldn't go anywhere. He couldn't go everywhere. No, I mean, you went to the highest. Right. And so you're going to have to pay people, but when have guys gone to Winnipeg to make money as free agents? That's why I saying it's different.
Starting point is 00:23:30 That's all. Yeah. I still say that Calgary is in a similar boat. Yeah. No, especially. It's going to become more and more. I think the COVID stuff really hurts you. Unless you're winning.
Starting point is 00:23:41 Like that you didn't want to be in Canada when restrictions were changing like by the month. And like, oh, one one week like my wife and our newborn can't go to date. care and they're stuck inside and it's minus 30 and we can't go to Banff and none of the hotels are open and there's like there's nothing to do and then oh next week everything's open like Florida there's none of that some people made life-changing decisions just like that like pack your bags we're moving to Buffalo just that I think COVID did that for a lot of people just very kind of I thought that because the bills were good so for so for Dubois I'm here for the bills please and he here to watch championship come to Buffalo and we can move on to
Starting point is 00:24:21 and the Jets, but he's in that final year. He's still an RFA, but basically he's told them all, as much like a Chuck has told him, I'm not going to be signing here. He told them all sooner. And he, uh, 17 goals, 41 points and 38 games. He's doing them a favor. He's good for them now and building up his trade stock. And you know, it was, it was prickly with Trubo along the way, but it was kind of the same thing. It was known for a while and he probably played a season
Starting point is 00:24:43 two more than you really wanted to, but I think it was sort of one of those things. Like, look, you, you play well. You play on a winning team. We're going to be able to get stuff that helps us and get you to a market you want to be. So anyway, the, they got a good team. Yeah, well, wait till they're healthy. Fuck. And what did Rick Boness's team look like in the seven-game series in round one last year? Do you want to remember that?
Starting point is 00:25:08 They looked hard to beat. And like defensively tight with great goaltending. I still wonder if he's just sitting there waiting, keeping the seed warm for Barry Trots. Barry. Older coach. go do whatever he wants and it sounds like he wants to do some management stuff. So unless the Jets ownership and management team want him to have some player personnel,
Starting point is 00:25:29 I don't know that's going to be the case. I think they're very okay with that. Why isn't it happen yet then? He wasn't ready. Why? I mean, I'm not disputing it. I'm just more curious about it. Family stuff.
Starting point is 00:25:39 Okay. So that's fair. No, I think that Chippin in that group, they would, move heaven and earth to get that guy in. Because that sounded from people in the coaching sphere to me, it wasn't just, I want to be a head coach and make money.
Starting point is 00:25:50 knew that anywhere. Like he won a cup in Washington, he went to the islanders, and immediately they were respectable overnight. He had one bad year there that was injury plugged and they started 20 games on the road. Like he's a great coach. We know that. But he wants to get in on the management side. And if they're okay with it, like, gee, where's he from, Dean? Isn't he, a greedy prick? Isn't he an Orlando, Florida guy? Or is he the best guys from Manitoba? Okay. Yeah. People love him. What a greedy bastard. Just give me all the, I'm going to push all the buds. I also think those guys, when they get gunned, they don't mind getting paid all that money from the team that fired them.
Starting point is 00:26:28 Like, if you're him, how are you not pissed at the Islanders? All he did for them, they went to two Easter conference finals, back-to-back years, and he has one bad year that's injury plagued with some questionable GM moves, and they're on the road for a quarter of the season. Like, fuck you guys. I'm taking all this money. Question Lou. Come on, you can't question Lou.
Starting point is 00:26:45 It's Lou Lamarillo. Please. We'll see Loo's team on Friday. Islanders East against Islanders West. Can't wait. Dean. Are they still Islanders East? Are both teams holding up their end of the bargain?
Starting point is 00:26:59 I think Daryl's teams are starting to look more like Islanders West. And I think Islanders have looked like the Islanders for a while, minus last year when it just, you know, all those things we've mentioned twice in five minutes now happened. We sat there last night doing that post-game thing. And you think of how thin the line is. Two shots from the point go off of, are missing the net by a foot.
Starting point is 00:27:20 go off of a player and end. The Gagne one is a little bit more deliberate. It's a great tip, but still. From an awful, like, impossible angle. Like, that's an incredible tip that I don't know he could replicate twice in 50 tries. Codry hits a post, Weager backdoor, great saved by Hellebuck. Couldn't get it up. And what do you call that when, if so, the way the game goes, changes the way the game is played.
Starting point is 00:27:40 If you're up by three, you're going to play a little bit differently. If you get some of those bounces, I wonder what that third period does look like. They never had a lead. They're chasing or tied the whole night. And they had some chances to grab leads. And, you know, they played a good road game. And it looked early. Like you talked about it being, there was lots of stretches with great pace and chances and good goaltending.
Starting point is 00:28:02 And there was also a couple sluggish patches. And I thought early in the third, this thing was going to, okay, okay, stand off of the okay corral. Like, no one's going to blink. We're going to get a point each and then we'll open it up. But no, there was three goals after that. I was stunned that there was more scoring after two to one. When the Morrissey goal goes in. It felt like the winner.
Starting point is 00:28:20 That's it. Yeah. That's it. And that's why, to your point, last night in the postgame show, that penalty taken late is such a killer because they evened it when you felt like they weren't going to even twice already
Starting point is 00:28:33 in that game. Like the way Hellebuck looked earlier, like this might be his league leading fourth shot out of the season. It wouldn't have surprised you, right? Just under three to go to Foley takes that slash and call it kills you, right? If you're on that bench and one of your teammates does that,
Starting point is 00:28:48 you're a good guy. Well, I don't even know about that. Like, how much time have you given yourself now to tie the game? You'd like to have the net empty before that penalty's been killed. They got stuck out there in their own end. They iced it. They retired. And then he takes a penalty.
Starting point is 00:29:05 The hell are you doing it. Selfish. Come on. T-pot. That's selfish. Teapot. Send them back to LA. That's where all the selfish.
Starting point is 00:29:13 Is it? That's a... Oh, big time. You've got to think about yourself in a way. And all the selfless people, they move to Buffalo. That's right. To help out. Their snow angels.
Starting point is 00:29:24 How about them sabers? Yeah, we'll talk about them in a little bit. The team you wrote off months ago? Really? How did they do? Yeah, they're doing pretty good. Tage again, man. I haven't looked at the standings till today.
Starting point is 00:29:36 What the hell is going on in Florida? Are they done? They were eight out after a win the other night. Florida is 11 back of Tampa for third in the division, eight back of the Islanders for the second and final wild card. What is going on? Well, they're missing a couple of really good players, and I think... I was going to say there's a big change of philosophy coaching-wise.
Starting point is 00:29:59 They're missing one of those, the top two defensemen. They are. I mean, look, it might not look great here, but it looked really good next to Echblad for a long time there. Right, right? It's fits. It's not just, yeah. Top two. There's two there.
Starting point is 00:30:15 You do wonder what's going on there, though. You do. Because it's not like a Chuck hasn't been great. That's got another hat track. Cichuck has done his, yeah. Like he's, he's what, top five in league scoring? He's unbelievable, yeah. He's having a year better than last years,
Starting point is 00:30:29 which feels preposterous when you watch last year come together. And they're not in it. And they're still paying, what, $14 million for league average net mining? Fuck. It's a lot of... The Bob thing is not good. Was it, was it you guys that brought it up that the GM was talking about when the free up a bunch of cash or was that frank and one that was frank and that yeah this isn't the year you
Starting point is 00:30:55 expect them to be at their best there's some expiring money and more cap room they weren't going to be able to do weger and hubertoe extensions and even one of them would have hamstring them they got a lot of young guys that are going to need to get paid so this was kind of a clear it out and we're still competitive and then we can add to this group next year they weren't in a spot to add on top of a Chuck this year. You forget about Maurice because Huberto leaves, Weger leaves, okay, maybe that's, you get over that. There's no need for that. As adults and professionals, you get over that. You, you settle back in. But then the coach changes as well. That's a huge shift in everything in the room on the ice, off the ice, and everything. Well, we keep hearing about how different the system that
Starting point is 00:31:42 Euberto and Uyger asked to play is from the one they played last year, which was a system that Joel Quenville put in and was carried on by Andrew Burnett. He remembers the Maurice thing, Andrew Burnett, I think. After his team won the President's trophy, oh no, they just missed out to Colorado late, but they were the highest scoring team in the history of the cap. And what, top seed in the east? I think he remembers not getting his job renewed.
Starting point is 00:32:05 That's, that might be the one where it's like, if you're going to take key for any decisions they've made, that might be it. How can the players, they make all the, you get rid of Quenville with all that crap from last year. Okay. And you get what's this? Oh my God. Andrew Burnett. Brunette come in and
Starting point is 00:32:22 do a great job. Yeah. And you win your conference. Like you you're playing great. And then they move all those players out. Okay. I could squint to see that. And the coach. And the coach. Like, it happens. What the hell is going? Well, and you know what? The Vegas Raiders,
Starting point is 00:32:44 Rich Basatia came in after Gruden got fired by the league there. He had to go. Basaccia takes over. The players love him. The team plays fairly well. End of the year, no, we're bringing in McDaniels out of New England. Why?
Starting point is 00:32:58 It just feels like you've got to get the name. You got to get the guy. I don't know that Paul Maurice is the name and the guy. No, I mean. But I'm with you. Like, it's the same spot where you're like, what? I'm talking about Brunette. Brunette.
Starting point is 00:33:09 Yeah. Were you taking for granted what you had? He's, hey, listen. He's one of the winningest coaches. He's done it forever. You look at all the. Coachings wins. Well, Quentville, yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:20 No, Paul Maurice. Oh, sorry, sorry. Okay. I see what you're saying. So Maurice is available. You feel like you've made that you've got this team. You can't beat Tampa Bay. You've got to get past them.
Starting point is 00:33:29 This coach is available. I don't know. Like when people ask about Paul Maris's legacy, I just have a tough time trying to wrap my head around it because it's like there's a lot of good teams. There's a lot of mediocre teams. And how many great teams are there? And I don't think that doesn't mean he's a good coach
Starting point is 00:33:44 and it doesn't mean he's had perfect rosters and he's screwed up. or awful rosters that he's lifted to great levels. But I don't know that I was expecting this team to be better under Maurice than it was. Like, Quenville's system is pretty much for that group. When you look at how Chicago was built, all that skill, like, we'll trade chances and beat you. I think that's not what Paul Maurice's crew is doing this year.
Starting point is 00:34:06 I think Zito made a mistake there. And it is Zito, right? Yeah, yeah. Former H.E.M. I think you can get around, like you said, with the money and the moves and the trades, of sure, Cachucks come in and played great. You want some grit, beauty.
Starting point is 00:34:21 That's awesome. Bringing in Maurice was a BS move in my opinion. You got a guy that was there for a long time, learned from one of the best, stepped in under shitty circumstances, led your team to the first place, and you dumped them. What is that, honestly, honestly,
Starting point is 00:34:38 I'm in the room right now in my head. I'm like, what the, why are you getting rid of this coach that we all like to play for? And two guys that you liked in the room, Justin too. Like where's the loyalty in Florida? And it has F all to do with Paul Maurice.
Starting point is 00:34:53 It has nothing to do with Paul. I don't give anything. It's nothing to do with him. Why are we pumping a guy out the door that's done a great job and we all like to play for? I agree. I think they made the decision on Burnett before it was like who is going to replace him. And maybe he was saying, look at the season I had, I want to be a top five salary coach in the league. and they're like, you're just taking Quenville's playbook,
Starting point is 00:35:17 but I don't know. There has been a lot of loyalty showing in the last 12 months. No, the rumors I heard about Brunette is that he's not exactly that. Now, how do we know? I don't know, but you have a track record with the guy. He's been there for a while, and you don't want to pay him close to what you're paying Maurice. It makes no sense.
Starting point is 00:35:39 So what's coming up for money for them? Talking out my ass about all this cap space. It Radco Gudis is off, stall's done, and then, man, they still got three years of Bob. Holy shit. Yeah, the Bobber's got to go away. Or the Bobber's got to play up to, well, but you got Spencer Nye, I think you want to be the guy anyway. Like, Bob's 34 and has three years left. How much money would you have to eat to move that?
Starting point is 00:36:04 It's $10 million even. I saw somebody kind of speculating how you can move Bobrovsky and you eat some money, but you bring it. I don't see any way where a team is looking at that contract and that goalie and thinking, we can be better, we'll be a threat if we can get Bobrovsky if they eat some money, and we're willing to pay on top of it with an asset. I don't see it. It would have to be a spot where Bob gets to a point where he looks like a top 10 to 15 goal in the league again. And then for $6 million, that's kind of the going rate for guys that are in that range. So, okay. But I mean, that's a couple, that's a big if to get them back into that form.
Starting point is 00:36:42 and then are you going to somebody breaks a leg is what you're doing you're you're praying Toronto what's his name there goes down and they lose three goalies and it's it's desperation wow but it can't even be that
Starting point is 00:36:55 because it's like no one's got the cap space like they're going down to get shawl grin and guys who've never heard of out of their farm system before they're even entertaining taking on 30 million dollars or you know half of 30 million dollars the next three years like teams up against a cap
Starting point is 00:37:10 can't spend on a goalie you never know that bobby might come down with the mysterious neck injury or something. It happens, yeah. Just take a poison dart in the neck. I see on the bottom of our screen, their outdoor dental. It reminds, I was going to tell you guys this.
Starting point is 00:37:24 Now, my wife's uncle watches this periodically, so I'm going to clean it up for you. Family. But anyway, it involves him. And the mother-in-law, they were in town for about a week, a little more than a week, and after dinner, like to, we're going to sit down and watch a movie.
Starting point is 00:37:45 And it was hours of the TV watching them sleep on the couch. That's not watching a movie. Instantly, I mean, it's the name, the credits are still on the start of the movie. It's still going, it's one of these. And I thought about Dr. Jay Patel at Outdoor Dental. Oh, yeah. It's like, I'm going to, I need the laser here right now for this soft palate. Could you hear them sleeping before you saw them sleeping?
Starting point is 00:38:11 Oh. What? No, no, no. No. And then the denial. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. What do you mean? No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Your eyes were closed.
Starting point is 00:38:24 The wine glass is like spilling onto the floor. No, no, no. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Outdoor dental, Dr. J. Patel, Outdoor. Dot dental is the website. They have got, it's for your, it's for snorers. two 15 minute treatments. You go once, you come back a second time.
Starting point is 00:38:46 They put on that topical kind of whatever to take the pain away. They come in with the laser, get it done twice, and it's going to reduce or eliminate your snoring, which is going to make you not only sleep better, but apparently get through a movie if you so chose to. You probably extend your stay at your in-laws place, potentially. No, no, no. Maybe just extend your stay on planet Earth.
Starting point is 00:39:09 In addition to that, Yeah. Oh, that's, yeah, it was too long. In the airport. Did you hear there were issues with flights? Couldn't get people out of town. God. Outdoor dental, there you see it.
Starting point is 00:39:21 Not just the snoring and sleep apnea aid. They got the orthodontics, dental emergencies, whatever you need, they got the laser. They, it's the cutting edge stuff. It's worth it in any way you want to look at it. So go and visit Dr. J. Patel online, outdoor.dental. Sharks with freaking laser beams on their heads. Something like that.
Starting point is 00:39:41 Something like that. We're going to do the Pinder Report. There were how many games, 11 games last night? Well, there's a lot. It's only three tonight. So they must have been busy last night. We'll do our Betway bets. But I do want to tell you about Montana's.
Starting point is 00:39:55 Because we brought out yesterday. Montana's barbecue and bar. They are bringing back daily deals. They want to get everybody. Let's not just, it's January. We're going to just now shut the shutters. It's 2023. This is our year, baby.
Starting point is 00:40:08 Let's go. Let's go out and watch the game. It's not a new. concept, but it's one that's been abandoned a little bit. Get your buddies together. Go out, have a good time. And that's the thing about Montana's barbecue and bars. Ed, you're welcome. And you just walk in. It's not pretentious. It feels like home when you walk in there. The food is great. And they have got their daily deals more coming soon. Can't tell you about it. Wish I could tell you about it. It's inner circle here. Today is Wednesday, and we touched on it yesterday.
Starting point is 00:40:34 Today, all you can eat ribs. so if I went to watch a game I could sit down order a beer and some ribs watch the first stay for the second order my second rack ribs and then the third period hit
Starting point is 00:40:51 nail one more just for good measure that's correct I do have a question though because like let's say it's Friday although it's a Wednesday for all you can eat ribs but like you know it's Islanders flames we're probably going to get overtime would you dare a fourth rack
Starting point is 00:41:04 for fear of overtime shootout I wouldn't, I mean, it's not daring at all. I feel that's the kind of bravery that you exhibit on a daily basis. We watch to meet before we know the answer, but this is a show for other people. We need to remind them that he would not be deterred from ordering a fourth rack. Beyond that, on the other days, there's drink specials and like I said, more is common, but it's the place to be. Cheer on your favorite team while enjoying half-price wings on Monday, all you can eat ribs,
Starting point is 00:41:35 Wednesdays, or just any time sit down with an ice cold beer. but you got it retro. Flames game, even if you're not going to the game, but if they're on the road, that sets up nice. Like five in a row on the road, Dean coming up here or something like that?
Starting point is 00:41:48 I like it a lot. Montana's, barbecue and bar, Canada's home for barbecue. Let's do the Pinder Report. Let's get caught up, shall we? Our buddy's up at Village Honda, the CRV hybrid has arrived.
Starting point is 00:42:02 Stop in, road tested today. I think they've got a bit of a soire event coming up very soon. We'll have details on that. We'll be there. This is a game changer. The all-new CRV hybrid, go and see it today. Village Honda in the Northwest Auto Mall.
Starting point is 00:42:15 Online VillageHonda.com. It's the Pinder Report. All right, flames and jets last night. Boy, we'd love to talk a lot about that game. In fact, we already have as after-Berner was launched last night. So if you're looking for more post-game reaction to a 3-2 loss at Canada Life mortuary or whatever we. Center. Center with 14,000 plus in a day.
Starting point is 00:42:38 attendance all you can fill your boots with over there on our Flames Nation YouTube page and up on Apple and Spotify now as well. Make sure you subscribe. Give us the five star. You like. But is it going to be on YouTube? Is it on the YouTube? Where is it going to be on Spotify? It's on the Flames Nation. It's everywhere. It's out. It's happened. We didn't know how and when, but poof, there it was in the middle of the night. Question. Yo. This is your thing. Sunday is the next because then you'll be on Monday on your way to work, fresh content for you, hawks and flames.
Starting point is 00:43:14 Red is going to be on. Yes. How loaded you're going to be, but? Loaded. It's Sunday. There's football. I know.
Starting point is 00:43:25 I'm going to say, we've got some schedule things to figure out. You don't have family. Zero hockey on Sunday. Are you family free still on Sunday? I'm not family free, but I'm... Hockey free, okay. Commitment free.
Starting point is 00:43:38 Yeah. Can I just... Can I just... Can I just... Can I just, like, log on to the thing while you guys are doing us? We'll put it up. Yeah. I mean, you got to drive in on Monday, too.
Starting point is 00:43:46 Yeah, yeah, that's true. Yeah. A little prep for the show. And, Red, I do want you take notes. I don't want you take this, like, slacking. I want to know what you're eating, how much you've drank, what kind of snacks we've got for intermissions, and then when the old drowsy bear starts in the chair, getting the wobbly neck.
Starting point is 00:44:05 Yeah, some postgame shows have the three stars and... Yeah, I want the three snacks. Yeah. Yeah, the three shits. Tonight's three shits. That second power play, I missed it because I was taking a huge dump. Yeah, I don't know. What did you see there?
Starting point is 00:44:20 That's the hard hitting kind of post-game analysis we want on the afterburn. So anyway, yeah. Yeah, check it up. Back to the game. Here's the schedule. Take a look at the Calgary Flames. What's coming at them in the next little bit. Lots of road.
Starting point is 00:44:32 It is a one-game homestand Friday against the Islanders. Boy, you like three-two hockey. I think you might have. one for you here. Take the under. And Blackhawks on Sunday's our next afterburner. It looks like it might be ret and eye for you on a Sunday evening slash Monday morning for that one. Back to back of the blues who are missing some significant bodies with injury.
Starting point is 00:44:52 Krug's been out what the whole season? O'Reilly, Teresenko out amongst others. What's going on in St. Lou, Rhett? They're going to get in there on a Monday and they're not leaving until Thursday night. You just got to call Chase or Kelly Chase. He'll take care of your whole itiner and set you. all up. Chaser, just say, chaser, we need an itinerary.
Starting point is 00:45:11 We're here till puck drop a Thursday. Is it, is it, is it, what's that? The car auction? An old defense when he won the. Oh, Bear, Jack. Call her, Bear Jackman.
Starting point is 00:45:21 Jack, Jack, Jackman. Yeah. Apparently he's, uh, he's doing lots of stuff down there too. Maybe hook up with him. All right. He was on the World Stars tour, so he had a good laugh at the whale joke.
Starting point is 00:45:32 Oh, he would have a good laugh at the wheel joke. You guys most have really kept in contact, given you couldn't remember his name. I'll tell you where. Right. I always get confused about Michael Jackson, Jared, Backland, but the one thing you don't want to end up at is in East St. Louis.
Starting point is 00:45:49 Okay. It's a, it's a tougher crowd. Yeah, a little friendlier on the west side. River there. We've heard that. Yeah, Conroy has kind of told us there's just almost a line. Yeah. It's a river, in fact.
Starting point is 00:46:02 Very defined line. Yeah. Stars on Saturday, they've been exceptional, leading that central division that has Colorado, that has a hot win at Big Club that has Minnesota in it. Stards. Heskin and having a monster. Jamie Ben looks young again.
Starting point is 00:46:13 Ottinger has not stopped looking like an elite goalie. And then they close it out with Nashville on a Monday. I was thinking about the stars the other day. Did Madano end up with like 999 games? Wasn't it? Yeah. Yeah, that was in Detroit. And Babcock scratched him.
Starting point is 00:46:33 Ask Mike Commodore about it. He'll tell you all about it. 999. I do know. But what kind of what I was thinking was how ignorant it was as a star's organization to not give him a game for what he did for your organization. But he played a number of games in Detroit first or before he retired. That's a matter. Brett's saying bring him back one year league men play a game.
Starting point is 00:46:59 He played 40 games in Detroit. That's it. 1499. It wasn't for 1499. So it's 1499. 1499. Because you're right. You played too many seasons to be stuck in the 99-9-9 hole.
Starting point is 00:47:10 But I'm with you. Did no one, especially Dallas, maybe the wild. Come on in. Oh, the wild, yeah. And let's get you, it's not the big number. It's not a thousand. It's not, it's pretty big number. It's big enough.
Starting point is 00:47:25 Not many guys are getting close to that. It's like badana. Yeah. And then the Preds on a Monday. By the way, if the Titans win and the Chargers win this weekend, the Chargers would play, the Titans and Wild Card Weekend. That would be a Saturday or Sunday NFL game
Starting point is 00:47:40 followed by a Monday Preds Flames and my family's out of town until later that week. It's a good question. I thought about it afterwards and I apologize, Redd, I asked you how drunk you were going to be for Sunday's afterburner. How drunk are you going to be for the afterburner? Hopefully I'm just nice and hung over
Starting point is 00:47:54 on the Sunday. Oh, by then you'll have rebounded. There'll be a hangover Sunday. We'll see. Then you'll pour some seizzer on it. I was going to go skiing and now I've lost the chalet. We can't go skiing. I'm happy afterburner.
Starting point is 00:48:08 Maybe we should partake in some Caesars. I told you, I brought it up yesterday. No drinking shows. No, that's Barnburner. This is a different show. We've never drank on Afterburner before. Not even once.
Starting point is 00:48:21 Boom. Take your democracy and beat it. When you're on, you can run it your way. Yeah, do it however you like. Is this one of these drinkie-drinkies or the talk about the game shows? Because I need to know who's on before I press play. It's going to tick a boat. 13 days for the next drinking show to pop up.
Starting point is 00:48:42 Okay, here's Ryan Pike on where the flames are at this year. We kind of forget they weren't like gangbusters yet at this time last year. They were starting to really peel off. Well, they missed all those games in December, right? Right. They had the cancellation. I think it was like Boston, Carolina, we're in town. They had all these games to make up.
Starting point is 00:48:59 And then they went on a heater. I think they won what? All of the eight home games they had to cancel or something like that. And look at that. They've only scored four fewer. five-on-five goals. Huh. They've allowed nine more,
Starting point is 00:49:10 and that fits the bill. If you hear their goaltending's been not as good as last year to this point. You'd be like, yeah, Marksner had like seven shout-outs at this time last year. Do you remember how many games? It was like, they're working hard, but like he is in a zone. There's no way they win that game without Markstrom.
Starting point is 00:49:25 He's had a bunch of those already at this point last year, and that's not to say, oh, he's screwed, he can't do it this year, but just remember how dialed he was, and they're basically in a similar spot in the standings. And their power play. is 27th where a year ago was probably about fifth. The power play chances are way down and they've given up a lot more defensively as well. They really embraced that smothering Darrell defense last year. And to be fair, you know, if you had Shillington and you didn't
Starting point is 00:49:52 lose Tanna for a while, he's playing through something and you weren't using a stone, DeSimone Gilbert as much, they probably look better defensively. But yeah, it's interesting. Because last year just felt like, oh, everything went right. And it's like, well, not that far off at this point at least. We'll see. The Schillington is a discussion for another day, but that we are in January and there's still no real clarity on that. No news, nothing. I did not see that coming. I'm sure the flames didn't either. Well, I mean, there hasn't been a timeline from the beginning. You'd hope there'd be a timeline by now. Like, wouldn't you like to know if you'd have this guy by the deadline or not? When you have that... You have to make a decision on what your team
Starting point is 00:50:27 needs for a postseason in theory? A personal leave or whatever you call it. That's a couple weeks. It also speaks to probably that it's serious and something that deserves the respect and patience that it's been asked for by the team. So is what it is. Let's move to other NHL news. Speaking of, okay, here's
Starting point is 00:50:46 an interesting thing, a guy that has filled the net an incredible rate since he arrived in Detroit, Jacob Varana on waivers. Huh. Now, get this. Since arriving in Detroit, it was that swap with Anthony Manta and some picks as well.
Starting point is 00:51:02 clearly he's just finished going through the player assistance program so there's some issues off ice that he's been dealing with we don't know how dealt with they are obviously the wings would be privy to that and jacob ranis camp would but this is a guy in his last 39 games scored 22 goals you're talking about like flirting with a 50 goal pace since he arrived in Detroit uh those are remarkable numbers he scored eight and 11 games with Detroit in that split season then 13 and 26 and then one in too this year. You don't see players like this on the wire and it probably speaks to, you know, how complicated the off-ice issues may or may not be. He's removed all references from the Red Wings from his social media accounts by some people's account. So weird to see what happening is
Starting point is 00:51:51 one year left around five next year. Everyone's tight against the cap. But if you're a team like Arizona, is this not exactly the type of gamble you should be making every year or anytime you see someone like this available? The player, yes, obviously, right? I guess what it forces you to do is you got to do your due diligence and figure it out. I said to you before the show, if Stevie Y is cut in bait, I kind of, I feel like he's a pretty good barometer on this. That's true.
Starting point is 00:52:21 On all things. It's true. I got to run into Alex Tangay over Christmas. Did you? Yeah. the wings. Hmm. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:30 Still bald? I was, still bald? Still bald? Still wearing the title asizer? Oh, looks great. He loves golf.
Starting point is 00:52:39 He's doing a good job with the wings. He's a golfer. That regular season always got in the way of his golf game in Calgary. God, if we could just win her. I'm just glad he wasn't playing somewhere hot. He'd be like losing his mind in February here, at least, you know, in March, it's not really golf season.
Starting point is 00:52:54 He doesn't like golf that. Are you chance we could play 72 this year? You know, just wrap this thing up. Either NHL news, we've got cane news, good and bad for two different canes. Bad news for Patrick Kane. He left last night's game with a lower body issue. Elliot Friedman tweeting that it's likely an abundance. Not really.
Starting point is 00:53:15 An abundance of caution is probably a good way to categorize this. Everyone wants to be careful from Friedman. And yeah, of course you do. This is a massive chip, a franchise icon, and maybe the biggest decision the Blackhawks have to make over a half-decade span. The future of Patrick Kane swings the balancer. You're not rushing them back. Yeah, but exactly.
Starting point is 00:53:36 Like at what point is we just have to have this dealt with? I think the cap makes that harder, but I think they'd love to have it dealt with, to your point. We're at the almost the midpoint of the season, right? The question, I guess, that I have about it is, does Manjipani give up 88 for Kane? I think probably, right? or what kind of an agreement?
Starting point is 00:54:01 I thought it was a one for one. I'm way off, I guess. Other cane news, and this is better news for a different cane, Evander skating with the Oilers at practice yesterday, courtesy Ryan Rashog. He, of course, had that, what, tendon laceration around the wrist that was really scary.
Starting point is 00:54:18 Went bolting down the tunnel, blood on the ice, scary scene. And something's not right in Emerson right now. They are out of a playoff spot by points percentage. And Connor McDavid's on pace for, like, Gretzky type point totals. It's 160. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:54:33 If he's going to be a 160 point player and they miss the playoffs, what kind of an audit is it on the rest of the organization? Well, the last time a guy scored 160, he lost the Florida Panthers in the semifinals. So sorry, Mario. Okay. Again, it's about Rett.
Starting point is 00:54:48 We just have to wait for it to complete the circle. And Florida Panthers. You were going to say something. Just go ahead. Okay. It's all right. Max. Patcheretti skating.
Starting point is 00:54:59 If you thought Carolina was, boy, they're really good. Well, wait till Freddie Anderson returns. And oh, yeah, they did add Max Patcherty. We all forgot about that's a good team. Totally forgot Max Pratchretti was there. I know. 100%. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:55:12 Imagine if the flame just had a guy that scored 40 who was just hanging around almost healthy. Oh, that's what they have. I'm not going to 40 anymore, but yeah, good player. World Juniors News. Hey, I found this new angle for the Bedard goal. And I found it. I saw it on the Twitters.
Starting point is 00:55:26 it's a reminder that Canada plays again today and a good excuse to watch this insane goal one more time and the Metro Center in Halifax. My goodness. Where are you going? Defenseman. Where are you? What pass are you taking away there? Isn't that what all the greats do though? They just make guys look silly? Like isn't that what Mario
Starting point is 00:55:43 does to you? You just, he's in your ears. But that's what stupid, man, what's stupid defensemen do? It's like, so you're going to take away Badaard going down below the dots to the goal line? Because that's the danger zone? Like, what's this idiot? guy in front of the goalie, where are you going?
Starting point is 00:55:59 Watch him go down now. Oh, yeah, I don't want him to go down into the corner. He probably sells that shot pretty nicely, but yeah, hey, look. Oh, great to make it look at easy. He's trying to block a shot. You know what? These kids these days, they need a defense to coach him up a little bit. Do you have that cloud thing with the old man shaking?
Starting point is 00:56:18 Canada, USA Today, if you want to take a little look, what are we seeing for all? It's Canada minus two. 138? Minus 223. They are minus 138 in regulation. And I'm speaking in American odds. But yeah, that's what it looks like if you want to look at, yeah, Canada's favorite pretty considerably here.
Starting point is 00:56:40 That's a big number for Team USA, who has in this tournament popped up and beaten favorite Canadian teams with a bit of regularity the last 15 years. We'll see. Should be fun one, what, 430? Yeah, it'll be a 430 puck drop. I think some places are saying four. They're trying to sell that pregame. That might be the rights holders. TSN trying to.
Starting point is 00:56:58 The rights holds. Yeah, tune in at 4 this morning for 12 hours of pregame. We'll just, my buck drops fine with us. That's great. Nobody watches it down here. Nobody. Oh, the World Juniors. Yeah, I know.
Starting point is 00:57:09 It's a Canada tournament. The World Juniors. Yeah. I asked, I was asking people, have you paid attention? They're like, no. College football all day. Yeah. It's bull season.
Starting point is 00:57:19 Yeah. Look them up. This is really, I'm sorry I'm doing this, but we love it too much. You don't have to. There was NFL news, and it led to other NFL news that we love. Here's the news from Adam Schaefter Boomer.
Starting point is 00:57:40 As we saw Miami's got some issues of quarterback, two is hurt. Teddy dislocated his pinky. They had what, Skyler Thompson in. So they need some QB help. Who do you go to when you need some QB help? Who else? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:57:55 someone's got to stick their neck on the line and plays football for it. Good for Mike Glennon to stick his neck out. Yes. Yes. And you know, you want someone that can see over the line and spread the ball around the offense. Great vision. It's quite a sight.
Starting point is 00:58:12 Yeah. As there's his career earnings, if we needed a reminder of that. You can add another little bit for Miami on top. There's also some other images of Mike as a quarterback. I just hope he can see past all this criticism. That's him in his hometown. He was relaxed in his just working out, getting ready,
Starting point is 00:58:32 hoping this chance would come again. Great to see. Yeah. What else have we got? That's actually him on Halloween with his kid. So he knows got a sense of humor. He wouldn't be mad about us. Fairness.
Starting point is 00:58:45 He's got, guys got along there. What else are we going to have? I'd kill to have that fucking neck. Give me some of your neck, Glenn. and you selfish prick. What neck? What neck. Finally,
Starting point is 00:59:03 sadly we're losing a legend and a sports icon. Pete Weber, officially retiring. He's done? Nah, come on, Pete. You got more in you.
Starting point is 00:59:15 Who do you think you are? I am. One of the greatest clips of all time. Just an absolute legend. second generation pro bowler. Look at Reth though. You're a big bowling. You must be heartbroken.
Starting point is 00:59:47 This guy's got to be a legend of Buffalo. They're not watching World Juniors because they're watching Pete Weber highlight tapes. Huge in Buffalo. You try to get a lane on Wednesday night. Nope. You can't do it. Nope.
Starting point is 01:00:00 Who do you think you are? I am. I can get that lane. No one else can. Try and get a lane. Yeah, that's right. Speaking of maybe off-center sports, we had the greatest leg of darts
Starting point is 01:00:12 ever, Rhett. You got to go from 501 down to zero. Let's watch them go. And listen, let's hear this. Awesome. 180 right there. Good start. To give him a sniff.
Starting point is 01:00:28 Yeah, the combination Okay, so it's back to back 180s. That's really good. In this game, he's going to be key. You can tell by the way they're scoring, there may be nothing in it. Triple 19 you need to do at some point because it's 501, odd number.
Starting point is 01:00:42 Michael may miss. Look at the crowd now. They realize they're witnessing history. 12 to win. Oh, he misses the double 12. That would have been perfect. Perfection. This guy's still perfect.
Starting point is 01:01:22 People are lose their minds. I can't spike. It's awesome. Ever, ever, ever. Ever, ever. Ever, ever. Ever, ever. Love it.
Starting point is 01:01:52 Good for Mike. And how's your 2023 going, Rhett? You had a good start. I know you're ordering it in food. Brett, uh, Dean, one of your boys is, kids haven't,
Starting point is 01:02:03 haven't seen kids at all, so it's been nice. That means you don't have to be higher drunk, right? Isn't that what you're saying? No one's judging me. Syphilis test. Come back. Yeah, it would be good.
Starting point is 01:02:15 Uh, someone's having a rough 2023. It's Dean's boy. The rapper, Wiz Khalifa. The tough goal. Oh, no. Tripped in his pool, 10 grand suit. Not liking in 2020.
Starting point is 01:02:30 The tweet says, I tripped and fell in the pool in my $10,000 suit last night so y'all can take me back to last year because this ain't it. Damn. Good news for Wiz Khalifa. A lot of runway left to turn this thing around.
Starting point is 01:02:43 Yeah, yeah. All the best to him. I thought you actually meant my boy. His actual boy. Yeah. No, no, not your child. he's got his own issues
Starting point is 01:02:52 not $10,000 suits and pool issues I'm guessing I also got beaked by someone named DER about the you changing the dog's name because apparently the vet has a big yap This is so inside Imagine someone listen to their first show They have no idea what's going on
Starting point is 01:03:12 If this was me and her phone call I'd be like what are you talking about Dog name what are we talking about Like this isn't analyzing Josh Morrissey's game game Go ahead goal like Is that He looks good. He does look good.
Starting point is 01:03:25 So are vets like doctors? You have to, it's all very, uh, you can't share that kind of, and maybe you get punted out of a doctor school. You go to vet school if your yap's too big. I don't know. Apparently it isn't like doctors because they just talk ass about people all the
Starting point is 01:03:41 time. The Warner's brought their dog in and you should see how long the nails are in this dog. It's unbelievable. Don't tell them I said anything, though. I can't share that kind of in. Pender report brought to you by. Dog Park you didn't hear it here. Village Honda.
Starting point is 01:03:56 All makes and models. They're going to service. It's the state of the art service center offering whether you need the body shop, your windshield repair, accessories, detailing. I'm going to leave those windows on for a bit longer if that's all right. Door to door shuttle service with a smile.
Starting point is 01:04:12 That's what you need. Can I get a ride home? Of course you can get a ride home. It's Village Honda. Experience the difference, village Honda.com. Love it. That way bets.
Starting point is 01:04:20 And then there is an idea. Would you like to close today's show with highlights of last night's after Brenner or not? I have a few things to do still. So you do your thing. There's some business to take care of. I want to invite everybody to Jasper in a couple weeks' time. We are going up quick. I know.
Starting point is 01:04:36 It's going to be here before you know it. The final weekend of the month, it is the pond hockey tournament, the annual event up in Jasper. The 27th to 29th weekend is when we are going to be there. Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge. And of course, go up anytime. time. Go up to Jasper, go to the park lodge, do whatever. Your horseshoeing, I was going to say, snow shoeing and horseback riding. Orshoeing? You could probably horseshoes. It's hard of the snow. I don't know if you're going to see those pegs. You could snow shoe or you could go on a horse-drawn carriage,
Starting point is 01:05:06 I think. See, that's just I'm more of a hardcore horseshoer than you are. Are you? Visit C-H-Ehockey.com for more information. We will be there, Frank Sarah Valley coming in from Philadelphia. All the Oilers Nation boys are going to be there. The watch part, I think they're watching. watching the Oilers the one night. We're doing a hot stove with Frank the one night. Perfect. Lots going on. C-H-Ehockey.com for more info and to register today. They're going to be crying in their beers if McDavid puts up three points and they lose again. Jeez. Fat losers trying to play hockey.
Starting point is 01:05:36 Yeah, lots of those. I can't wait. You two are working out, right? Like you got your skates out of the day. Yeah. Dean's definitely almost put his foot back in that skate for the first time in the 2020s. We're getting there. Yeah, it was the first skate in years. Oh, you did put your feet. years. And they actually, they were still the same fit? No, it's, they feel awful.
Starting point is 01:05:56 Awful. Awful. That's a good sign. You should probably get new skates. Can you get the syphilis cleared up so we can bring in as a ringer here, Red? I've got some hoof rot. Maybe that's what I've got. Betway bets of the day, sure, we can do that for you right now. And then I wanted to kind of get people ready for tomorrow because tomorrow means ask Rhett for Hope Street property management. That's right. I'm going to get tickets away to them to work, too.
Starting point is 01:06:19 So Betway, our bets of the day, only things. three games in the NHL, so I took one NHL game and you kind of threw it out there a little bit earlier. It's a big game, Canada versus U.S., the under 20s, whatever you want to call it. I'm taking a Canadian win. It's not a ton of out, but I'm just Canada, let's go. That's a heart. Let's go with his heart. Despite Warner cheering for the Americans, because he's now a greasy yank himself. Let's go Canada, minus 138 in regulation. Do it. Have you melted down that medal yet for jewelry for your wife or no? What are you doing with your, because you're obviously cheering for the USA now, right?
Starting point is 01:07:00 You didn't let that. I'm sorry. When my kids can grow up and they can win some of those. Yeah, yeah. Back to the NHL for my other pick tonight. Dallas is in Anaheim. The Ducks last night lost their 10th straight game on the road. They're on a roll.
Starting point is 01:07:15 Yeah, it's not great. Meanwhile, Jason Robertson, he's back scoring a bunch again. Yeah. Give me the stars minus one and a half goals. Give me stars by two. Buckline. Plus 105. Those are my bets of the day.
Starting point is 01:07:31 Yep. I'm going to go with some heart throbs. You know my love for Philip Horonick will never die. He's been phenomenal. One point paying plus money? You crazy? That's the guy that got drilled. Yes.
Starting point is 01:07:43 And played the next game. He didn't even miss a game. He's keeping his head up now, Rhett. He's even better. Plus 105. He gets a point of more tonight. And Dougie Hamilton. Shit's scared now.
Starting point is 01:07:53 Dougie Hamilton, power play points. Have you seen the power? Oh my God, here it is too. Yeah. Can you get one plus points when you're on your wallet? You already had to in that game. Bong. And the other one, Dougie Hamilton PowerPlay Point.
Starting point is 01:08:10 This New Jersey team's fun to watch. And yeah, he'll be zipping it around on that first unit, I'm sure. So he gets a power play point plus 180. That's a big number. So my betway bets the day. There you go. need a luck after last night. We all got...
Starting point is 01:08:24 You were heavy on a flames win, and I had a dube goal and a Eubertoe assist. I had a win in five to two. Yeah, that's all right. Betway with the betway bed. Get the app in your phone. 19 or over.
Starting point is 01:08:39 Bet responsibly. May as well, right? Ontario. What wouldn't you? Ontario. Whatever. And yes, tomorrow on the show,
Starting point is 01:08:47 Rhett will have his expertise tested. once again, Ask Ret. The first of 2023. Email your questions in for Retro, the email address. Askrette at Flamesnation.ca. If you want to go by your Twitter,

Starting point is 01:10:40 Land magnates. No wonder you moved down. I was too. No kidding. Condo tycoons. I didn't know. I wouldn't care who my wife is dated or anything. I wouldn't care who my wife is dated or anything. I'd be, yep, let's go. It's a bartender's name. A slum lord type of. Oh, is it? Oh, good. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:10:55 That's the Trump school. But sure, okay. Perfect. That's going to do it. So Canada, U.S. today, world juniors. It's more I ask right than Friday. So world juniors. Okay.
Starting point is 01:11:06 What else am I going to do today? You're going to get a home alone. Like, maybe, eh? You don't need to do it. It's raining out. Give a cabby a hundred bucks and say, we're just going to go on a little, little pub crawl.
Starting point is 01:11:19 Just cabby and me. You can sit and make calls. You can go chat up the locals, play some pool. It's not a bad idea. What's going on at that Bavarian beer hall? I can't stop thinking about that place. Oh, I know what you're doing today. You're trying to find a lane in Buffalo on a Wednesday.
Starting point is 01:11:35 You can't do it. Do you think you are the Reds day? You would be stunned how many afternoons I said I had a bowling lane by myself when I played in Buffalo. Sounds like today. Numerous. Two shoulders? Numerous. Well, you were pretty cool back then.
Starting point is 01:11:52 Just like Pete Watt. I was. Yeah, pretty cool guy. It's going to do it for Barnburner today. We'll be back tomorrow. Enjoy you the rest of your Wednesday, everybody. Oilers suck. See you, buddies.
Starting point is 01:12:05 It's beautiful.
