We're ready. It's Monday. It's Barnburner. How are we doing everybody? Welcome to to our fancy YouTube channel. It's very fancy. We're here in our studios as another week of Barn Burner. Week three of Barn Burner officially underway. Wow. Time flies. It doesn't even feel like week two happened. Isn't that weird? It's like I know. Well, for some of us, week two is here. Pinder is back from drunken escapades across the desert. How are you? I'm here. I'm well. And yeah, we had a bunch of fun as we do. Were you attacked by a rattlesnakes at all? No rattlesnakes sightings. There was a lot of time spent wandering through desert looking for golf balls. I played atrociously.

But it was good times. High school pals, 19 of us. Only 19 pals. Little time in Vegas. It's a tight group, just a tight group of high school chums. who would want to hang out with their high school buddies, especially when you could stay home and parents, right? Like, why would you like going to a guy's trip?

Those are no fun. Just taking a lot of heat for the guys trip. No, no, no. It's your the naming of the trip and the reasoning for the trip. I think if you just said, I'm going on a guy's trip. Whatever. But to say it's 19 high school, tight high school buddies, it's our 20th reunion.

Boom. How many high school chums do you have? It's less than that. There would be, I would say there's probably a select group of like four, three, four, maybe five. How many were in your graduating class? Not many. Yeah, not many. It's, you know, small town for sure.

I grew up here, guys. Of course I still have high school buddies. I have friends from year one hockey from wooden goalies that were on the ship. Like four of them, maybe half the Adam team was on the trip. Novice. And do they all go every year? No, this was the 20th annual. Of course, the 20th annual.

Hokey-Pokey. Peeber, poop-dopper. What's it? The Pina Mupperer. Right. The gag. The gag. The gag.

It's just nice to be short of the gag. That has to stand for something and you've not let us in on it. No, we did. And you made fun of it right away. It was the gentleman's annual golf poker and beer invitational. There. Which, yeah, it seemed cool 20 years. ago. So fly into Vegas.

Flying to Vegas Wednesday. Little cards Wednesday night. People collected guys flying in from four or five different cities and away we go. Then Thursday morning bus tried to connect. Rob Ray was there. I'm like, okay, we're good just as I finally sorted out the headphone stuff. And played around Thursday, Friday, Saturday, bus back to Vegas Saturday, Golden Knights game Saturday night, fly home yesterday. I was going to ask, how do you get around when there's 20 people? Big shuttle. Yeah. Yeah. No, the organizer does a lot of work. Tip the captain Bradley.

By Brad. Where'd you guys stay? We rented four homes on the outskirts of Mesquite, which is quite sleepy. They have two Uber drivers. So if one of them isn't on the phone, it's a nightmare doing anything. It's right. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's like retirement heaven. If you don't have much money at all. It's pretty dusty. Maybe this Brad dope should have maybe, I don't know, looked into that a little bit. No, they did. Hey, most of these guys are actually good at golf and competent.

So they were very excited to play these courses. So do you always go to mosquito? Is it? No, no, it changes around. But we hadn't gone anywhere for the last two years. It'd been really close by because the pandemic stuff. So does the 20 count the two years or is it like 22? No, it happened.

It was just like Lecombe, which isn't as sexy a draw as flying into place. Why do you hate Lecombe? Love Lecombe. What's wrong with Lecombe? home when you're in lecombe you it feels like home that's the problem is you're trying to leave home for the guy's truck i was a member one year at lecombe really you don't say this track big because you're a big golfer you're a big golf love golf yeah yeah that was one of the ones where my wife literally said why don't you get a membership this year because you know we're having a kid next

year so you won't be golfing i k buckle up buddy it's like It's rather direct and presumptuous that I'm just going to, you know, start flinging seed around. And we're going to be having kids, but please. Did you, uh, did you, did you, did you use it enough to pay, do you know what I mean? Did you get value out of the membership? Do you know, like I had a membership. Okay. Yeah.

Okay. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. It worked for my golf membership as well. I was a great member for everyone else. How many people's dues? Yeah.

So, but you didn't, this last summer. you didn't obviously because you weren't here right did you get rid of it before the start of this summer i got rid of it yeah about i think we were going to try to sell it on the air one day and then just didn't get around to it because last year what with your shoulders and everything else how uh how the fact that i don't elf that up that's right how many if you were to kind of pro-rate it what what would each round of cost you in the summer of 2021 big though 25 i actually and i actually think I added my kid as a junior member that year and oh yeah even more expensive that's good inefficient rest cost per round very high you know what though it's a great course and the I'm happy

to have done my part keeping it open 18 holes could play or sorry 36 holes two 18s are nice right did you make out okay on your uh sale uh uh was no much like Good. All right. All right. I get some joy from that. Well, what do we got for you today? We got a few things we got to get to.

We're going to go back to Saturday, flames and hurricanes at the dome. The home stand continues. Coming up, what, tomorrow night? Sid, the kid. I'll come into town. That's right. So we'll talk about that.

NFL, our picks. Albeit, not bad. The ones we got wrong, we really got wrong. But I think we were both two and one in the week for our NFL picks. There's no part marks. It's right or wrong. Yeah. Don't take any. That's right.

And some baseball. How's that going over? I'm already getting chirped on the YouTube. Oh, you're not wearing your Yankee jacket today. Yeah, I know. Yeah, it's great. People are quite observance about that. How is it going over in the shoveler.

And honestly, that team. since about June has been the class of the American League by a mile. The Yankees kind of had a quite long stretch of just being mediocre, but they were so good the first two months of the year. The standings were kind of misleading. You go from like July 1 on, Astros just destroyed the field. And good at everything. Good starters, good bullpen, deep lineup.

So I'm happy for all the Yankee haters. There you go. There you go. The problem is, is now like the Astros, they're not exactly lovable. Not really. I mean, every year further away from that huge scandal, the better, but still. Still a lot of those same guys. Fair number.

Really? Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Beef is involved. What he'll do is he if you have a young burgeoning hockey star potentially on your hands. He has many connections in hockey world. And we all do. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. Which by the way, if you have time later, Beef would, if you want to talk to Beef, you'd love to talk to. But no, he'll, he has his whole network and he'll put together a little package. There's the video and all this. And then he'll distribute it to different NCAA schools and around the, yeah, he actually just moment.

moments after Cody Eakin was released from his PTO with the Flames got him work in Europe. Where to end up? Cody Eakin is is working with beef. I don't. I can check it out here. He texted me immediately. I was very devastated. I said, that's not, that's not right, because he looked so good with the mullet and stuff.

Yeah, the hair looked good. The game was leaving a little more to be desired. But why do you hate Cody Eakin? Like the visor. Langnow, Switzerland. Oh, yeah. Nice spot. Where he ended up.

Man. Yeah. Nice spot. But you know what we did on Saturday? We went to launch pad. Oh. We all went to golf, but incredible. Isn't it?

It's incredible. Good. Now, is there two or one? There are two of them. Apparently. I was at the one in the south at Heritage Point. I was going to say it's a hike to the other one for you. Unreal.

Right close to you. Yeah. So I know we're going to be, hopefully. talking to the good people over at launch pad. Really? Love to have you on board launch pad. But it's unbelievable. If you know what top golf is, then you know what launch pad is. Keep in mind, Saturday, it was freezing cold and snowing.

Place was jammed. The heater's going. The heater's going. It was warmer, literally, on the platforms than maybe it was sitting inside because the door would open and close and open and close. Beautiful. People bringing in their own clubs and stuff. Is that?

I guess that's how it goes, right? It's like the guy comes to play some snooker and brings his own pool cue. It's a little bit more normal. Just because your own clubs, like everyone's got totally different setups. Huge sport. I have a hybrid. I have a high wood. I was, it was a 54.

I like a 56, whatever. The kitchen, they got full gear, everything there. Place was jumping on Saturday. Good. Yeah, very cool. Yeah, I had somebody's playing that Winter League last year. Raven about it. So how did you know about a retro?

Well, I just did the investor. Yeah. Because you don't know you're I thought I heard I thought I heard that the other side of the story that folks that live in that area aren't overly excited about having the lunchman

So anyway, I went and ate too much steak and then went to sleep and woke up the next day to watch the game. Luckily, not knowing what took place. Still in blackout. I go, yeah. If I know I'm not going to watch the game, I just, that's a serious. Put on the corner signs. And no one talks to me in my house. So that helps too.

So I just woke up the next day. Didn't watch it. And a friend's texting you all night? No, not a lot of friends. I've got to tell you, I'm glad that I didn't know the result because the first 10 minutes or so. Yeah. Not great, Bob. They had some zone time, but they sure didn't know how to get a puck to the net. My goodness.

If you knew the result, you'd be watching thinking, how is this ever going to end up in a flames victory? Because it was a shooting gallery. Poor Michael Stone. I'd be looking at Langenau, Switzerland. Another 10 minutes like you did there. They were up to their ears in it. The first 10 minutes of that hockey game is Ajo and Cochenemi. and Tara Vine, and it was just a shooting gallery.

And again, another early lead. Markstrom bounced back, played great in the third period. Power plays. They had that double minor that they had to kill off late. So when you look at it, I give full marks to the flames for not only just hanging in there, but stick. Obviously, Darrell not pleased. I thought from the start of the second on, they were the better team. Obviously, they come back and get that thing done.

but this having to withstand or I guess come back play from behind we've talked about this over the years that we've been doing these shows start on time better starts it sucks playing from behind and chasing and that's what they've been doing a bit this year Colorado first game of the year first shot goes in right yeah and then Vegas are down two nothing now very different two nothing than the Carolina two nothing Vegas it was like flames had all the shots Logan Thompson's outstanding the puck was in the Vegas is in most the and there's two nothing it's like okay well that's going to happen every once in a while that's just a bit of bad luck and or a bad goal 10th inning first goal in that game but this was a well learned two nothing lead for

carolina and you're right if you i bet you and i'll do this for tomorrow save percentage by period for the flames it's not been a good first it's been really good thirds yeah and they get the benefit of the of the offside goal yeah off side right so that that may have changed well and what did you think on the second goal is there a case there for that to be looked at or no in which in what regard well what marksham loses his stick and i know stone's in contact with the player and i'm not saying they should have challenged i just thought hmm i wonder and they just moved on dropped the fuck that yeah i mean i just looked to me like well stone bump the guy into him that's kind what i thought too but he loses his stick you're right if stone starts that domino rally it doesn't

matter they lose his stick but markstrom was yelling at the refs and i get that that's just part of sport but it's it's a spin the wheel thing too because it is you look back at the cadre no goal well he was kind of pushed into the goal. Totally. Yeah. And I thought he had less of a chance than Markstrom did. Markstrom was still kind of in position. Thompson was laying across.

He was sprawled out before Godre even got to him. Yeah. Which is anyway. I guess just what did you see retro? We talk about the start. Obviously not great. But they dug in. They got a goal from an unlikely, hey, get on the Ritchie train.

Super Sniper. Yeah. I wouldn't recommend. it as a game plan for the rest of the year. Shotty goal tending to start and getting down by a few and having to battle back. I'm not sure that's... Yeah, and then just score one from the corner. No big deal. Yeah. Throw it at the net.

It's bound to go in. I'm not sure. When Johnny Goddrow does that, what a skilled player. And Brett Rage is, ah, these fourth liners, you know, just throw it at the net. Who knows? Every shot's a good shot. It didn't look like Richie had any plans that was going to go in.

And Rant to or Rantanin, depending on who is called the game. That's right. Yeah. Probably don't want to go to the slot when that's, uh, awful goal. Might have left. No, yeah, it's going to be tough to,

it'll be tough to, to argue against that point. But they get, I, I've, we knew this was going to be the case. We know what the deal is and we know how it's going to, how it's going to age and that it's too long and it's too much money and all of that. But right now,

Nazim Kodry is worth his weight and gold to this team. Oh, yeah. He's so engaged, wins on that goal, wins the draw, goes to the net, rebound, scores it to get them back into it. 19 minutes in ice time, five shots, just under four minutes of power play time, gets the goal. He is to this point, and I think moving forward, he's just tailor-made for Daryl and this setup. Well, and I think this is the way the GM wants his team to play.

like there's tenacity there's physicality there's you know he's a burr under the saddle he makes life miserable for the opponent and to be fair if you're losing a guy like kachuk here's another one that's going to draw his team into the battle i was going to say you know the gm likes him when he gives up a first round pick to move cap money and then fires out the kind of contract that he did to cadre but fair but it was one of those things you you really didn't do doubted. You'd have been more surprised if he didn't fit in than if he did. Because I think he fits in. He was great in Toronto, even though things, fans didn't like him because of what went in the playoffs. But they loved him in Colorado.

He was a great fit there. He was a great leaf and he's been great here. Wow. The playoff suspension is because he's too wound up, right? It wasn't because he was. I think so. Yeah. It wasn't because he wasn't motivated. It was like, you need to chill out, but you're a little too. hyper. So he's playing the best hockey in his career. He's got at least a point in every single game this year. And to your point, boom, if it's not going to look good in year one, it's going to look really ugly when he's 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38. But he's been phenomenal. You could argue

he's been their best forward. Yeah, I think he's going to be the captain. And his line's the one that you'd probably say he's been the most consistent and the best and that's not shots in the other lines it's just he's stirring the drink yeah and you're saying he's going to be the captain red that's he's he's good enough because darrell does he know that there are i know hey remember last year yeah i know you fired two coaches last year that was yeah you're a good at you're in the know so yeah i also got sutter hired before sutter got hired so yeah you got coaches hired and fired now letters on jerseys but he's i mean he's that guy all those levers yeah but baseman in buffalo he's moving the world from there.

It might not be fancy, but it works. But Daryl's going to love him. Already has spoken about it. He's going to make Cadre feel like the king in that room because he's going to give him carpaulange. He's going to rely on him to be the leader. Oh, he's got the cup and he's the guy

like he's going to put that on his shoulders. He's responding in the way that Daryl dreamt he would respond and play. He's going to be the captain. I don't mind the case. It's a strong one. I guess the only thing would be

if he's that guy, you don't need him to wear the sea because he'll be that guy anyway. Maybe you elevate somebody else. So somebody else is going to have a better voice in there? No. I mean, you could say Tanna, but it's only a couple of years. He's not that vocal. I don't know.

That's a guy that wants to stand and do media all the time. He's a more shy, introverted cat, relatively speaking. Yeah. I think you could make a case for Michael Backland. although I just feel like the reason they didn't have a captain the last year was because they didn't have a captain like don't force exactly now as I'm starting to look like one though isn't he yeah yes and that's what's out so the rest of my reasoning was the fact that most of these dopes have been on this team for quite a long time they were never elevated to captain last year and jeer was

the year before but they weren't considered for captain material last year who's answer why why this year is backland to captain yeah like some little other guys you knew you knew there was going to be roster turnover so maybe you hold off this is you've got some long-term deals in place now this is your team moving forward i i'm with you i i had said maybe huberdow at the start of the year because of the length and because of how much money was being paid and all of those aren't the right reasons right this guy but that's those aren't the reasons you give someone to see oh you're here for a while you got lots of money like you need to be the emotional tone-setter and someone that everyone turns to in big moments and while we're talking about backlin

We talked about it a few weeks ago. What was it going to do the addition of cadre? It's going to make that center depth being what it is. Maybe it would help Michael Backland. He's had a tremendous start. And it's not even just points. He's been, to me, you've seen him every night. He's been engaged.

I think this is some of the best hockey we're seeing Backlin play. Truly, I think it is. Tough to argue. And he was great in that Euler series. There weren't many that were. Again, we talked about it. You could slot those guys in one, two, three. whew that's not a lot of teams have anything close to that three deep now you've got two superstars

in a lot of teams but this is going to be a very good team they lead their division the one thing i wanted to mention was saturday the penalty kill was huge eight minutes of power play time for carolina three shots yeah i did not have high when the double the double minor hit in the third it just yeah this is how it's going to go stick to the mouth burnsy leaky burnsy going to cost the flames a point here. Goofy old Bernsey chewing on sticks. Goofy old Bernsey. And then Rasmus Anderson, another guy who deserves some credit. We've talked about him a little bit. I guess it was last week that a year ago, Gio leaves. He comes in, increased ice time and importance. It didn't look quite right to start the year. He looks just fine this year. The other night, 27 minutes and 47 seconds,

four minutes on the power play. And a pair of helpers included the great play. on the game winner and overtime. And you always, you worry about your D when they're carrying the puck and three on three. Don't just turn it over because you're, now you're really deep. And if it turns over here, you're hooped going back the other way. But he puts it right on a tee for T Foley, who hammers at home, a great play by Anderson, who I mean, you can see the play here if you're watching it, shakes off the check and just a little bit of a soft. It's a little window there.

There's not much room there. There's Bernsey. Burns he's still leaking. But put it right on the tape for Tofoli, who makes no mistake. Pretty nice sequence retro. It was great. To me, well, brag about how good it was. It's odd to see in overtime in three-on-three,

the other team or any team kind of get stuck on the outside of the, like, so we got two guys against the board that Anderson went by, right? Like, I feel like you don't get those plays very often where it was weird. where usually we uh if you don't have the puck you just kind of sit back as a three-man group and and fill the middle those two guys it's natius i think is that natures see that he should have come to the middle sooner it looks like you to your point both of those guys kind of kind of leak over and go for the puck and maybe who knows right situationally maybe they know he's at the end of a shift or they think here comes the d if we can just poke this loose we're going back the other way but

and then yeah no you're right that's totally it too he's waiting for if he can win this battle I'm gone and to Foley he's had a great start he has goals to assist this is what you want for Tyler to Foley give him all kinds of chances in the ozone that means put him with your best passer give him ozone starts let him shoot the puck he's got five points has about five goalposts and yeah in that time his frame as well so he's he's loving life the this is where it gets boring for red he's like well they're playing well it gets boring what are we going to talk about but there Again, it's another night where the three lines specifically, you get a goal from your fourth line, but those three lines, barring injury, there's nothing to tinker. Just keep practice and roll.

Where are we at on the one start a week for Vladar? When are we? I was going to say because you look, now they have 26 starts, 26 weeks. What was Darrell's thing in Edmonton? Tomorrow, tomorrow, Pittsburgh, Saturday, Edmonton. So it's a two game and nine day stretch if you go back because it's Sunday, Monday off, then tomorrow, then the three days. So. Well, I mean, they're both getting a break. Vladar beat the Oilers. You clearly go, he doesn't have to worry about the oiler flu. Is Markstrom okay?

I wouldn't play Vladar against Oilers. He did last year against Colorado in a very similar circumstance, right? I said it before. I wouldn't give the oil. Don't give them any satisfaction. You're not going to play Marksham. Go screw. Hey, take a backup.

Take a hike. A new deal for old Disco Dan Vladar too. Yeah, yeah. And you get a whole. Then you get Markstrom gets like eight days off. if he doesn't play Saturday. Look, it's one a week. Darrell never.

And then it kind of got poked back towards the blue line, but it didn't feel like here comes a glorious scoring chance. Yeah, here it is here. So Ajo just kind of Jets, I'm going to beat this guy.

It's Edmonton on the weekend. whatever they do in terms of goal tending right yeah i would i would suspect that our probably goes against the oilers just because that's the way that's gone why not cares yeah you take the week you try and uh get ready for pittsburgh you get over the the shoddy effort that you had against the

sabers they weren't great against the sabers there's no question now sabers looked like they're a much improved team went into vancouver and rolled up the uh the canucks there as well oh yeah there it is The last team in the NHL without a win. 04 and 2, they fell in the home opener 5-1 to the Sabres. Now, if you count two-goal leads in the standings, they'd be doing quite well, but just haven't held up. Now, social media being what it is, I read something yesterday or this morning.

Not very nice. Now, parent. Apparently. Apparently. J.T. Miller was. out at a pumpkin patch. Just trying to enjoy, you know, the season. Tis the season after all.

myself he's been very how much I love pumpkins. He's worn it. Like, give him credit, but I just, man, everyone was excited there about the new regime, and it feels like they're doing the things Jimbo would have done, which is like extending the older pieces and not really changing the core

and calling it a rebuild or a retool. And it's like, well, they didn't, good enough last year. I can't sit and tell you that I've watched a lot of Canucks hockey. He was on the ice for the first eight goals they allowed this season, J.T. Miller. Yeah. All eight. What about three games?

Demko, is he good or is he? I think Demko's a really great young goalie, but I think that blue line is one of the worst in the NHL. Same as last year. Well, it could be because I don't know anyone that's on the blue line, so it's... Well, you do. The problem is that they're well past their prime.

Like all of recommendations, seven plus from them. Tyler Myers, long in the two. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
