Right. Why? I don't know, Rhett. Those could be show savings. You can see the consternation of Dean's face from yesterday's program. It didn't feel good about it. Those could be show-saving segments

Um, we've got this Bernice mountain dog and he is, I guess they're all that with just, he's a huge suck. Like they're emotional and they, if you don't show them enough attention, they get pouty. And sometimes if you're just, you realize where, where, is he? And then you'll see some Kleenex balled up that was in the trash can in the bathroom or something that he's just grabbed and brought out to the middle of the living room floor to let you know what he's capable of. It's like, okay, buddy, come here. I'll rub you behind what's the matter. What's, what's going on? He'll hop into bed in the morning and he'll do the, he'll try and get under your head under your hand or whatever, under your arm so you'd give him a pet. So I'll ignore him purposefully. And then he'll leave and be sour. And then he'll go and lay in the hallway outside the bedroom.

And this is our little song and dance every day. What's up with your tail? Because like the rest of your body isn't moving. But then your tail starts to move. Are you awake or are you sleeping or are you happy or what's happening? Are you a good boy? Do you big boy? Oh, he's a big bear.

Oh, there he is. Oh, cool. So he wants to act as though he's still pissed off, but it's, well, your tail's kind of giving it away there, buddy. Your tail's kind of, kind of showing you. He's voluntary Twitch. Yeah, he's, uh, he's a big suck. He's a good boy. So has, uh, has he kind of chunk?

Is he kind of your boy? Whose boy is he? He's probably the oldest kid because the oldest kid doesn't go to school. So he spends lots of time with him, lots of time. So. He sucks up to him for sure. It's weird by picture windows doing stuff back there. Because I had the nice, because of course, I'm here.

I'm on the lake, as you know. Then all of a sudden, I'm not sure what's going on outside my, a lot of activity. My window is a lot of activity. Guys are driving vehicles around. This is weird. It's kind of crazy. It's a game day.

The flames are at home that continue their road trip or their home stand. Pardon me. They're at home. They take the LA Kings on tonight. The Kings are desperate. It's a desperate. desperate measures, desperate times, all this for the L.A. Kings, as they are in a, they're in a real chase for the final

playoff spot, one of the final playoff spots, a wild card spot, in fact. And what can we tell you about the Kings? Pinder continues to try and pump them up because I think he kind of planted his flag in the, you know, they'll make the playoffs take. Well, he did love the Panarin. They had a coup to get Panarin. It was like, well, yeah. I feel like Panarin kind of just said, I'll go there, and they're really the only option.

Yeah, there were two places. I'll go to Florida. I'll go to L.A. It was really, well, okay, Florida can't take him because they have no cap space. So we'll take him, sure. And he's, I mean, I don't know that they're, they're going, they have to be better. They added him without really deleting anything.

So when, yeah, what hurt at, wasn't it? The, was it the, was it the, yeah, the Olympics. Yeah, he got hurt. And so the one thing I know, that there that has improved is their power play. Their power play is still 25th in the league, but that's, it's improved.

They're at just under about a 30% clip in the last 10 games or so. So he's helped out there. But they don't score a ton. Their power play isn't particularly good. The, it's kind of crazy. They haven't won back to back since January. What?

January 24th and 27th is the last time they won back to back games. They've lost three straight coming in. to this one. Only Vancouver has fewer regulation wins than the LA Kings. The Kings have 18 regulation wins.

Cleveland Flames have 19. It's kind of amazing. They've gone to extra time. They played 70 games. They've gone to OTI or a shootout 27 times. So I don't know what that says. A little more goal scoring, you'd be really good.

You got some horseshoes that you're getting. In the 16 games, they've gone to overtime. They're 6 and 10. 11 shootouts, 4 and 7. So it's like your Pittsburgh Penguins there, Jack. Aren't they kind of, it's kind of overtime and they're no good in overtime or whatever their trend is? Yep, them in L.A. are the two worst.

Yeah. Out of all these, well, I think we've not, I guess we're talking L.A. the most. I'm just noticing the other teams around there that. But the point we made yesterday, the point we've made before, the point McDavid made. you're not in the Pacific division you have no hope yeah you're you're drowning yeah pillow fights was the uh yeah the terminology he used the other day it's pretty it's pretty apt because it's you even start to look at the wild card and we can i mean we don't need to look at right now but you've got the the mammoth who have 80 points and they're going to have to play a wild card and

they're going to be a wild card team it's they'd be right there tops in the pacific if they were you know It's, it is what it is, I suppose. But, um, it. Pinder brings it up a lot about if they were in the east or the, or the, I don't know what it says other than it's been, it's a weird year for the division where everybody has just kind of taken a dump. I mean, it's easy to spin the other way too. Because you can say, well, it's a horseshit division in pillow fights or everyone's

really good. So the points get spread out. I don't believe that. Yeah, I'm not sure. Because you look across the board. The Hine has been a, you know, they've been a bad team for a while. They're starting to come of age, but they're still young. Vegas has had a poor year.

It's not been a great year for Edmonton. We know what Calgary's doing. The Kings, we just talked about them. They've got 18 regulation wins and 70 tries. It's, you know what's funny? Like if the playoffs started today, one of the marquee matchups should be Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers going up against the always

ready to play Jack Eichel led Vegas Knights, it might be my least inspired series to watch right now. Yeah. Yeah, I don't know what to think about Vegas. I don't know what to think about Edmonton. Although there was a big, we'll talk, guys.

I can't decide if this, and I'm just hearing you say, I didn't even go left. But my assumption for the whole frickin league with this much hockey is that every coach has gone into his room a month ago and said, you decide. Here's the ice. Everything's optional. Except the games, clearly.

Like, but morning skates, optional. I don't know what you need. You know what you need. Practice? Optional. You decide. So I wonder if it's just media. What can you,

70 games in, can you suddenly flip a switch in practice? No. Is there something you can do on the ice? I don't think you can switch a flip a switch in practice very rarely. I'll tell you the one way to do it and they don't play that way anymore

is have a frickin' fight and have some emotion and that ain't going to happen. I don't. I mean, I'm a simpleton, but I've always said, there's only a couple things. If you say there was a playing game

or say L.A. passed to beat Calgary today. And you had watched the Flames penalty kill. You're L.A. They said, I see something we can take advantage of. I really want to show this in film before we go on the ice, and then I want to practice it for 10 minutes, and then we'll get the F-R-R-R-I. Yeah.

Maybe. Maybe. Maybe. Yeah. But, no. Practices are not. They're becoming less and less, I think. I don't know if effective is the word, but useful, the better these players get.

And which players need it the most? Are there some, I've always wanted to practice a power play. They're all high-skilled guys. And then you get into a game situation and everything's, it's a catch-22 because if you don't practice it and it's no good, you got to practice it. Yeah,

yeah. Yeah, but you're practicing it against guys that you don't want to rip one. You think old Vetchkins ripping one-timers in practice? Maybe. I don't know. I would probably not, though. And if he is, players ain't going to try and get in the way of it, that's for sure, right?

So it's always limited. The flames and the kings, they have played twice. There were the flames won an overtime in L.A. before Christmas. It was Frost with the overtime winner. They lost February 28 at the dome. Wolf was been in net for both of them. It was Anton Forsberg with the shutout the last time. Kemper was in net the last time the Kings played,

so I do wonder coming off of a shuttle performance, if it is Anton Forresburg, whatever. I don't know that it matters a whole lot. It looks like it's a rotation right now for the flames. Cooley gets the win the other night. They go back to Wolf, I would assume, tonight. But yeah, I don't know what to. These are two teams that struggle to score.

Flames are last in goals. The Kings are 27th. Take the under. I'm not sure what bet three, six, five has has going today, but it feels like it could be a low scoring affair. I get that the kings are hungry. They need wins. They need all that.

I just don't know. They were hungry the game before and the game before and the game before. They've been hungry for a while. Yeah. Yeah. They've got the cracking on their tails with a game in hand. They're two, cracket are two back. Osage as well.

San Jose is there. They're three back with two games in hand. And they trail Nashville by. We'll kind of go through it. So here's a question for it because of our great coworker that we know and love and no one love that he loves attention. Is that the kind of thing that he would want? No, he doesn't ever want to. and then afterwards because now Leon's not around. I would think Leon when things going well if there's post game interviews and that Leon will handle some of that. And I wonder if he's a big help to McDavid in that. I do wonder because not that he would do it deliberately, but he'll say some things sometimes. And then that gets the media. for me any day or the way. Um, but so I do think there's the on ice and off ice where you miss him. And yeah, he's always in Munich. Okay. I guess he's not. not hanging around. Why would you? But this was after the, after the lightning game, McDavid was asked some, just some questions about,

you saw Cooper at the Olympics and the lightning are sure good and all of this and that. And he said some things. And then after practice, his short practice yesterday, he was kind of asked to elaborate because it felt like maybe he had said, you know,

reading through the lines, this John Cooper is a really good coach. Those guys are well coached, which means obviously we're not, Not well coached. It's a lot. We'll go through the post game and then the practice interview yesterday. Extremely well coached.

They're extremely well organized. They're very, very rehearsed and everything that they do. It's very impressive. That's a coaching question. We can ask not over that question. You know, obviously we've been playing together a long time. And we feel like we're somewhat rehearsed and organized, but not to be a level. No, we're not taking shots.

It's just everybody can. be better myself included everybody can be better it's not uh it was more just complimentary of of a great team in this league that uh came in and played a good game um nothing more than that he looks exhausted exhausted on that post game there was even the i'm sorry i don't what what's the question i'm sorry why i forgot your question what are you what is it like he's just worn the f out it does look that way doesn't it now there's been a lot of hockey and a lot of stress and four nations and Olympics and short off seasons and absolutely crushing defeats and contract negotiations that's heavy yeah and he's still one of

putting up points and the best in the world but it does look like when you watch kuturov when stamp coast was winning cups and not that they won in edmonton and i'm not even a cheap shot. I'm saying teams that have had success, usually it likens the mode. Right? Maybe McKinnon's the one exception to this rule, where he runs so red-hot that there is no fun.

But Florida, Vegas, Washington, one. I mean, these are teams that won, but even the teams that they beat. Because I've been on those teams. Right. The winning, allows you to kind of.

And is, well, usually when you're on those teams that are winning, it's because you've jelled and come together. And this guy doesn't look like it's, well, he's had no taste of it. It's only been having to answer those questions after losses, after disappointments,

after coming up short. And of course it's getting frustrating and tiring because it's not, I get, you're the best player, you're the guy you got to, Get on my back, boys. But at some point, you need between goaltending and everything else. The coaching thing is interesting because I,

Drysidal made comments before the Olympic break about how we're not as good and this and that. We've heard the coaching thing a couple of times and as exhausted as he might be. You go to the Olympics and it's kind of like, oh, we're just, we're going on a, on a school trip. Oh, well, that guy isn't going to be there. Is he, babe? Like that guy's not going to be on the bus and you're not hanging around with that other guy, right?

Oh, no, no, no. I mean, he's on the trip for sure. And yeah, we're in the same, you know, we're in the same group for, you know, we're doing arts and crafts. But so you go to the Olympics and you watch Cooper and you're around him every day for a couple of weeks and see the way he handles business

and the way things are done. It's like, hmm, this guy's pretty good. guys been off for Jack Adams, okay, got some Stanley cops. Oh, I can see, I can see that. If you're, if your old, uh, new kid on the knob lock, it's like, you don't need to go see Cooper. Don't worry about him.

This is, and I, you're, you're bang on there, I think, but. And how would I word it? Now, I've lost my train of thought too. He, he has to see those guys. It can't be. It can't be nothing because they bring in coffee. to try and fix it. Yeah, they brought coffee back.

Right? Paul coffee came back. And I don't think Paul coffee wanted to come back. He was there. They went to a cup finally. He's like, nah. Oh, yeah. My train of thought was lost because I didn't want a cheap shot again.

But I'm sorry, it's not a cheap shot. It's Rinky Dink management up there. They're going to guys. How many coaching changes did they have? And they have, none of them were high end, highly sought after. No. McDavid's got part of the issue. Isn't McDavid's old agent part of the.

Oh yeah. And Knoblock was his junior coach. Exactly. All this is to cater to Connor, but maybe Connor doesn't want to be fucking catered to. Maybe Connor just wants to win. So how about we go and get the best? I don't know the situation. but if Connor has created the issue by making these requests,

shame on, not shame on him, but that's the bed you have to lay it. If they've overthought this and tried to cater to what they assume are his expectations, shame on them. It's not, it,

there is not a hockey mind out there. Yeah. That would look back over the Edmonton Oilers, management, staffing, whatever you want to, operations over the last five to seven years, and say that it's been done well. They've gone to the finals twice, and you have to give credit where it's due.

That is not an easy thing to do. You're a win away from a Stanley Cup. You are on the cusp. I totally understand. You can't take that away from them. But you can also say, stand back and go, what have they done? That's right.

What have they done? They have David and Drysidal. That's what they've done. That's right. I think coffee's done a hell of a job with Bouchard, and I take shots of Bouchard all the time, because I think he costs you so much. Anyway,

what have they done? That's right. Trent Frederick? Yeah. A lot of the trades have, yeah, the signings and trades. have it worked out. It's not even worked.

Like, when those signings and moves happened, 95% of the hockey world was like, and when there's that at general consensus, consensus is right. Yeah, there's a couple in the, in the, the check, the, the Echholm trade was, was a, was a, was a good trade. You're right. Signing of Hyman was a good signing. He fit in there well with, uh, with McDavid. But outside of that. And it's interesting to see what Florida is doing this year.

My goodness, two of the best players in the world on your team. And then on the flip side, what a challenge it would be to get them over the hump despite that incredible ability? I think the challenge would be managing up. I don't think Leon and Connor would be your issues and I don't think you're, I mean, the team the way it's structured might be,

but I think your biggest issue would be managing up, if that makes sense. And another thing, to everyone listening, when players, management coaches say, we all have to be better, that's wonderful. that does anyone ever say to anyone that's ever played in Tampa Bay over the last decade? How's the coaching? Well, we all have to be better.
