Episode Date: April 29, 2026Boomer, Pinder and Rhett are joined by TSN’s Jamie “Noodles” McLennan to dive fully into Brady Tkachuk’s frustrated comments about the constant speculation surrounding his future in Ottawa and... ask the big question—has he played his last game as a Senator? The guys break down what Brady said, why this has clearly become a growing distraction, and whether there’s real smoke here or just offseason noise around a captain who sounds fed up. It turns into a bigger conversation about the direction of the Sens and what Brady’s future in Ottawa could actually look like—so do you think he’s back next season?Youtube Link: https://youtu.be/nOYztOo8xcM#nhl #nhlshorts #nhlplayoffs #nhlpredictions #nhlhockey #nhlpicks #stanleycup #stanleycupfinal #ottawasenators CHECK OUT OUR STUFF ⬇️BARN BURNER MERCHhttps://nationgear.ca/collections/shirts/FlamesnationBARN BURNER SHORTS https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLj_bcGtvvo-cW2DHEDZ6dEO5ePDmlhZc9&si=jo8iNGxT4ImhS2Y8📲 Follow us:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fnbarnburner/X (Twitter): https://x.com/barnburnerfn?lang=en🎧 Listen on:Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/be/podcast/barn-burner-boomer-pinder-with-rhett-warrener/id1648562889Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3Mc6Qd5U22R2zbMlQ7RxIiProducer: Jack Haverstock Hosted on Acast. We were talking again, just before we went live, you were very close to the Ottawa Senators.
Has Brady Kachuk played his last game?
What the hell is going on there?
He's got a contract?
What highly emotional.
I thought he came out and said that that was all nonsense.
I just read the note from my producer saying, because I'm discussing it.
And it said, Kachuk says he's fully committed.
Is that, I mean, you're going to take him for face value?
Not really.
I think he will stay.
but if I was planning on leaving,
I definitely wouldn't blow it up
and make it a disaster.
I would say,
no,
no, I'm committed
and then do it behind closed doors.
Yeah.
If I was going to do it.
If you're going to do it.
I mean,
nothing for me points to Brady saying,
check please.
Like,
I think they're a really good team.
I think they battled some,
I mean,
they had a lot of wild things happen to them this year.
But,
you know,
the Allmark stuff,
you know,
Steve's Dayhouse came out at the end of the season and said, you know, I'll take blame for not going and getting a backup goaltender.
You know, they thought that Levy Merrillinen could, you know, I think they've understood that Lena Solmark's not a 60 game starter.
Yeah. Look through the process. So you, you know, it's not their fault. They had, what, five defensemen injured at one point and decimated by injuries.
I will say, I think they've been shopping for a top six scoring forward.
and what I mean by that is a one-shot guy.
So Stutzla, I think, is a superstar.
I think Kachucks the unicorn, you know, can score,
but also can fight and hit and do all of that.
Batherson had an unbelievable year for what he gets paid under $5 million.
He's at $4.8 or $4.9.
You know, I think if you're looking at Claudeau's spot,
you say, you know, you want him in the organization,
but it would be nice to have a 27-year-old Claudeau-Jrew,
not a coming 38, you know, type of thing.
So why do you think this is happening?
Because I'm just looking at these guys, 26 years old.
He's a captain of the team.
Yeah.
They've made the playoffs in back to back years.
It looks like they have turned a corner.
They're on their way.
He's got two years left, not one year.
Again, he is the captain.
They have a new owner.
It seems like there's kind of things are revitalized.
A new energy.
Yeah, a new energy there.
Is it just because Matthew did it?
Or is it so much U.S. versus Canada in the last year and a half that we've, like, I don't know what it necessarily means.
I think you bring up great points.
The brother has a history of doing it.
The brother is not shy to run his mouth off and, you know, at dry saddle, you're a bridesmaid at, you know, behind the team.
I mean, you know, Matthew is Matthew.
We all love, no one love him.
So it's not like this is a distant cousin or, you know, a teammate of his.
This is his brother that he does a podcast with.
They do a podcast.
Like they, you know, it only, if you're trying to connect the dots.
And then, Boomer, you just mentioned the, he gets back from winning a gold medal.
And the first question he's asked, is you're going to apologize for going to the White
House.
You're like, what?
Like, you know what I mean?
Like that type of stuff.
I'll give you an example of, you know, what disappointed me.
And I understand there's friction and I don't want to get into politics.
It's more about if you take a look at what's happening just in life, in general.
When the Olympics were over, if you look at three Canadian markets, the first one, Connor
McDavid, I'm paraphrasing, but was basically asked, why you're such a loser?
you know what you mean like
Specter
so for the record you are paraphrasing
that wasn't exactly
paraphrasing because
you know spec
you know as much as I love
Mark Specter was a tough question to put
McDavid in a box like that
because you really couldn't have a thoughtful answer
right
and because you know
he was just basically saying is winning
a lot tougher than you expect it
the thoughtful answer was the thoughtful
question.
You just answered it yourself, Speck.
Right.
Like, it's really effing hard.
It's hard.
But, but again, had to be asked.
And I don't, I don't disrespect anything for that.
But I'm just, here's my point.
The first question that we saw was McDavid.
The second one was what Brady, you know,
what do you make of going to the White House?
Yeah, it's his choice, allowed to do it.
You know, regardless of who's in the house,
people go to it.
Okay.
And the third one was Austin Matthews got booed in his welcome back.
you know, video tribute for his gold medal.
So in a 48-hour span,
there's three captains of Canadian teams that you're like,
okay, so when you come back to people speculating,
you throw that on top of Matthew being his brother and had leaving,
that's what I'm talking about.
So I don't think Matthew's leaving.
I think, you know, I think Matthew has got a good thing.
going, I think he's got a really good, the spine of the team.
You got a superstar in Sanderson.
You got a superstar in Stutzelah.
They've got good supporting cast.
I think they're going to add.
And you've got some guys coming off the books.
So they're going to have some flexibility there.
So I don't see any reason why unless it's a lifestyle choice.
And that's just not, you know, Brady's just had his second kid.
He's ingrained in the organization and within the city there.
So I just, I don't see a lot.
of, I see the speculation and understand it from what I just laid out.
But to me, that's just hearsay.
I think that's well said.
I mean, I think with this being a sort of geopolitical tense time with Canadian
and U.S. relations last year and a half since four nations, basically, people
want this to be a thing to talk about.
But he might just be fine with two years left on his deal on a really good young
and up and coming team.
I'll smooth over the geopolitical check conversation.
Anyone watch the Sabres game last night?
Who sang the Canadian National?
Love that.
All the fucking Americans.
Proud of you.
That's why they're the best fans in hockey.
But it's exciting.
Like I,
sports is supposed to be an escape from real life.
Like,
it's not supposed to spill over.
And I understand.
But I just,
I look at it and I don't go,
oh,
like,
if people realize,
like half the guys are on teams,
on U.S.
teams are Canadian.
You know,
they're from other countries.
Like it,
it just,
I think people just,
take it too literally, but I
get it. But I love
that last time. Can I say something?
A shot against us?
Because we're Canadian?
Yes. We're too arrogant when it comes to hockey.
I don't think that Americans
treat it that way.
The Canadian fans do.
I don't dismiss it. It's ours and
we're the best. I've said that
for a long time. We're the arrogant pricks.
When it comes, when Canadians, we're
awshucks and we're nice and we're polite,
except when it comes to hockey, it's our game.
It's ours.
It's, it's, well, we get.
Okay, so a good reset would be losing in February.
Regardless, you know, Hellow Buck stole the game or whatever.
We got to get back to the drawing board and maybe humble ourselves and go,
hey, other countries have caught up, if not passed.
And what we need to do is get back to the drawing board.
I still believe we have the elite, the best of the best talent.
even the young guys coming,
but it doesn't mean that other countries aren't right there.
And what we see,
we used to see the U.S.,
or Canada, the U.S.,
and then everybody else,
I think it's just everybody else is pushed up
and that the margin is so thin.
And in certain positions, they passed.
Let's be honest.
It's a downtrend for Canadian goaltending.
I'll defend it till I'm blue in the face,
but it is a downtrend.
Ten-year trend.
And then tell, you're right, until somebody,
Joel Hofer takes over or Devin Levi or somebody pushes through
as an elite Canadian goaltender like we used to have,
which we used to corner, it's Russia, it's Sweden, it's family.
You two have hockey.
You two are golden dads.
Get the work, boys.
Let's go here.
My son's eight.
