Real games. Wow. That's, yeah, you know who loves this? Deepo in the boys. The trainers are eating this up. One week of training camp? Yeah. One week of having 50 people running around asking for us.

Yeah, I'll take that. You were a player, you've been around it, obviously over the years. It is just one of the most thankless jobs. In training camp, you've got to be setting up extra stalls and extra, rooms and this how many guys are you out 50 oh it's only a hundred skates two times a day to that's no problem i got it we got it oh sticks you tape okay yeah but socks are too tight right do we have any more toothpatch no thank you no thank you no this would be the most miserable time of year for those guys yeah they got it tough all the time they have it tough all

the time but they seem to love it's like yeah but you get to travel yeah but you don't do anything. You sleeping on bags and the everyone else goes to the hotel to get some sleep. You go to the rink, do laundry and unpound bags. So imagine, because we get along so well.

The four of us. Yeah, yeah. Where's the trainers? And we have to spend that much time together? Ooh. No. No. No.

No good. No good. But there was a game last night. The flames took on. the Seattle Cracken. Big, it would be big ratings for this one. Preseason between the flame, in the US.

Was it on TV? Would it brought huge numbers in? Yeah, I think if you went to the web. Oh, yeah, not TV, though. Not TV, TV. That if you went to the web, you'd be able to, you'd be able to watch it.

But you know what? Guys can shoot the puck nowadays. I mean, not taking anything away from Adar Sudea. He's the guy that has been able to shoot the puck, still can. and that will be, if he gets to the National Hockey League pretty amount of time, that will be what propels him there, I would think, is his ability to score goals. Sam Hansik, 15 minutes, 49 seconds, assisted on the first Sudyev goal. I have been reluctant whenever we have, now Pinder's not here.

I don't know. I didn't hear anything about it. But yet there's a bunch of people from within this network that are going to Toronto for this thing. Now, am I not the most photogenic? Fair. But there are a lot of things that happen. It's like, did we hear about that? Do we know anything about, no clue, no idea what's going on.

Well, I was going to say, because Pinder, when he's talking about prospects and people that you, guys that you need to incorporate into the roster, he includes Hansik. and it's maybe unfair. if I'm Craig Conroy, GM hat, which we need, well, I was going to get us a full-time GM hat. I don't know how confidently I would be building my plan

with Hansick in ink. Well, we can move forward over the next year or two knowing that this is where Hansick's going to be so we don't need to address that. And it's maybe unfair to the kid. He's had some injuries.

He had a good. good camp last year, made the team coming out, he's a big body. I mean, he's a big dude and seems to move pretty well. It would be great if, like you said, at this point, it almost, it was it's almost like found money. It's been, it feels like it's so long ago. You've not seen him in any capacity over the last couple of years. If he becomes a regular, it's like, okay, it's, you'd rather have an undeniable talent from a round one pick, but it's not dissimilar to Zeri. It is very, where you were like, this guy's forgotten. Yeah.

And then all of a sudden he's in the lineup. Brave reviews last night over Hansick. They were, yeah. Oh, oh. No, it's the first, it's the first game. Give the guy a compliment? Against, that's what I'm doing. That's your compliment.

I just got it like 10 seconds ago. Well, you got an IT person there. You can't start that thing up. No, I didn't do it. That's why I've seen, but he said everything's good to go. Just, I didn't know. Last time I was talking, it was we were at the NHL, we had the meetings, the

GM and coach meetings. They're like, is Calgary there? I'm like, yeah, Calgary's here. They're like, Calgary, are you there? So I get a text. They're like, are you want, I'm like, I'm on. So I had to do it from my phone. Actually, we did it from Ryan Husk's phone. Well, I worked for the team kind of one year and I couldn't even get a damn computer. So that's, you must be important. You must be a big deal. Yeah. Yeah, no, once they found out, they thought they could fix it, but they couldn't. So they got a new one today. So it worked out

well, they just move on. It's like, well, next year when the building's open, maybe they'll have some computers over there. It's good. I was just over there. Well, the 14th, it's coming together. It looks nice, exciting. Like we see the outside and obviously the guts of it and we saw the videos of of them putting the final, but what's what's happening underneath? Like the offices and dress your all that, what stays that in? Shaping up? Yeah. You know, I was there in June. The locker room's the same. It's the horseshoe. I can see it, but the steel is still there. So they haven't done anything to the locker room. I can see all the coaches room. I can see Ryan Huska's office. Depot, I think, I don't know what he'd paid to get his space so big. It's gigantic.

I'm like, there's one room just for jerseys. Wow. I'm like, how do you need just one? But it's unbelievable. This got to be hiding all the time. You'll never find him. He's got too much. You'll find anybody down there. There are a lot of different spaces. So it's going to be the lounge to see where we walk out in the ice. It's going to be in the stand down there. And now some of the stands are up. It's, I'm jealous for what the guys are going to have.

I, uh, I, we're probably not where you want to go with this, but I think this is great. So my kids last night, we were sitting there and we had YouTube on the TV and Pavel Datsuk's 10 minutes of superstar goals. You made a lot of highlights, uh, in the Pavel Datsuk goal scoring. I didn't know you were a Red Wing. When are the, what's like it? It was you and Reggie. I was never out there. You guys looked terrible.

He was pretty good. He was good. I mean, there's probably Steve Eiserman undressed me one night. Oh, it was so embarrassing. I think Fierzy made to save, though, or it would be on highlights forever. Like, Datsuk, I guess they couldn't figure out a way to stop it after I made my mistakes. Kipper's fault. I always said, it's goalies.

Come on, goalie. Yeah. You know, they get. by me, but then they got to get by the D and then they got, come on, that's a lot of guys. It's a lot of guys. I was looking this morning because you're what entering year four now as GM? Year four, yeah. And you've got it made here now because I looked at you came right in.

Well, we got to trade to Foley and then Zedorov ones out. We got to trade Lindholm and Hannafin. We got Marks from Tanna of the next year and Weiger and Cadrey, Colmanette. Like you've had blockbuster massive deal. you got nothing now. I mean, you brought in Nemitz. You'd be bored. And it's easy.

This would be easiest year yet. Well, it's nice to go into one where I think last year was really at the beginning of the year was Anderson, you know, was pretty much well known that where it stood with him. So, you know, that was something we work on all summer and it didn't come through. And you just can't rush these things. But we're always looking to improve. We're always looking to get better. So, you know, you're talking to teams. But you're right.

I don't think there's that same pressure or I don't know if it's even pressure or there's nothing hanging over your head. Exactly. That's exactly it. You know, I don't think there's something pressing at this moment. I just want to watch the team, get these young guys going, you know, get the veteran guys playing and see how the team does. So Depot's love, and I said it earlier, I said, Depot's got to love training camp because it's way shorter and you don't have 40 of a guy, five guys for a month running around. from management's perspective,

is this okay? Is it enough time for guys to show? Like, it's, that's, it's tight. If you're a guy trying to make a jump, that's not, you better be impressive right off the hop. Well, it is hard. I mean, well, you know, right?

You're trying, you're evaluating everyone. They haven't played, you know, you saw Sunniyev last night, though he scored, he scored all three of our goals so far. But even like Offman played 53 seconds, but I noticed them, every second of it. He had a scoring chance. He had the big hit. He drew a penalty.

Unfortunately, he got kicked out of the game. But that's what you need to do. I mean, I felt like he came in with a purpose and he was like, okay, I'm going to show you guys. And then I'm thinking, oh, he's out of the game. And now there's only three games left. So it is difficult. But I thought, you know, I thought the guys got better as we went along. But it's hard, it's hard to make a team. It's hard to make a team in four games. And you only get to play two. You know. Yeah. Is that the rules, too?

Two, yeah. Well, if you played under 100 games in the NHL, you can play more. But again, you're trying to get everybody there too. You got to get everyone in there. Yeah, you know, so the veterans are, they do want to play. I mean, they're like, well, you've got to play because you've got to be in game shape. Exactly. So it's going to be tricky.

I mean, even last night, you know, it's easy to get everybody in because you can have, if you're a first rounder, you get five years. in the first rounder. Second rounders, three years. So with all the draft picks we have, it's easy for us to get into the, you know, to make sure we have all the vet rules covered. But it's just about how getting everyone in and playing as much as they can. I mean, we played coolly the whole game last night where usually you'd play them half a game, but these guys both want two games from, I assume that's why Jake, you know, LaBarb's, barber's doing it is, hey, they all want to play and get ready and you're ready to go when the season starts.

Does he know what he's doing? Barb's. Well, of course he does. Yeah. Well, he works with them. I'm joking. Yeah. It's hard to tell.

I don't even know what the right thing is. I mean, last night, Dan, a guy played two periods and one. I was like, gosh, should we let,

you know, I don't know. I'd rather just play. Leave it up to the goal is they can't be trusted anyway. So you don't get. They just confuse everyone. As far as roster selection,

like obviously once the team is whittled down and then the coach builds lines, and that. How does that go? It's obviously collaborative. It strikes me that you would have a collaborative way of going about it. But how does it, you get final say, I presume, but just there are not many open spots, but how does that cutting down come around? Yeah, I mean, you know, we're evaluating and we'll sit down management side and the coaching side and kind of say, hey, who fits here? Who do we, did someone take a job? Then we got to start making some hard decisions.

You know, you look at every team, though. There's so many players on every team. They've signed so many. They get ahead of it. And they want to see where their young guys are. Or one of their guys are going to take a step. So I think as far as, you know, calls, it's been quiet only because, and again,

maybe it's been quiet because in years past, I've had three or four players that teams had interest in. And maybe this year it's more. I've told teams, I want to see where our young guys are at. I want to see our veterans and kind of way the season starts. So it's been a little bit more quiet. But again, we also got to make some decisions as far as if someone makes the team, you know, how do I do that?

And it might be something where, hey, maybe we need to start the season if they have to go to the American League and then let me try to find a way to get them back up here. And there's going to be some injuries too, you know, knock on wood, you don't want to have that. but there are going to be injuries as you move along camp here. Would Hunter Bristewicz be a guy that falls into that category? Now, again, it's basically there's one game that's been played. 34 games last year in the NHL.

We kind of talked about it when the team red, team black come out, he's on. He's kind of with the prospect group and not with the pro guys. And he doesn't have to clear waivers. It happens every year. There's always somebody who probably is going to feel a little hard done, buyer will be a little sour if they get sent down based only because of how their contract is structured. But if Bristewicz plays well enough to make the team, which he played 30 some odd games, I just wonder how that obviously you've had the conversation, or do you have the conversation

with him or how do you see this shaking out? I've talked to his agent. I mean, I think it's more of the agent. I think they understand. I want them to know where we're coming from. And he's still, you know, he's a young player. You know, he still needs to play. Like, if he's not in your top six, that's where what good is it just to sit and watch and wait to get in? Like, you want young players playing all the time, big minutes, every situation, and continue to have their game grow.

And then when there's opportunity for him to play in a top six role in the NHL, then you're ready to go. But it's, yeah, when you're a player of his age and, you know, waiver status, it's more difficult for sure. But you definitely need him playing. And he had a good year. He had a really, really good year. And it's frustrating.

You want to get everybody in, but we have, you know, some, some defensemen under one-way contracts, you know. Well, and if you're going to have guys sitting there, you don't need a 21-year-old or whatever, as opposed to a 30-whatever-year-old. We want to play much. Power play, penalty, kill, everything, you know. And being one of the top players in the. numerically if he's there.

You know, that's what he needs to do. To prove, hey, Craig, make some decisions. I got to get back up here. I was so goddamn good that they could hardly keep me in the H.L. But how hard is that? Because, you know, no, I'm serious. I'm joking. It's hard.

But that is one of the toughest things for a kid to do. A lot of these kids have been the stars of their team for life. And all of a sudden, even though you're kind of, you're held, back and it's it's looked and it is the right development move but how do you massage their brains into recognizing it like dude we know where you are we understand what you want but this is stay positive because there's guys that have tried that have had to do it and they get lost and they get pissed off and it doesn't turn out right like how do you maintain the no you're this you're in the right path. Stay with it. You know, I mean, a lot of this experience for me personally,

I had spent three years in the American League. I got sent down every year. I mean, I lived it. And I tell them, like, I know what it feels like. It's not a good feeling. It really isn't. And you feel like you're never going to get your opportunity. But when I went down, I said, I'm going to be the best player here. And I know there's, you know, 29 other teams watching or whatever. and eventually I ended up getting traded. But I had a good start. I was leading the American League in scoring. I got traded to St. Louis and my career took off.

You know, I could have easily stayed in Montreal and hopefully got called up. But I had to make sure I was the best player. And if there was a call up or there was a time, I mean, I would tell a story about Josh Juris when he was here. He had a good camp. I sent him down. I said, hey, I don't know when you'll be back. I don't like to give dates because then they hold you to it.

it, but I said, you go down there, he was down like for two or maybe one game or two. We had an injury. He came up and he played up the whole year. I mean, so, you know, I think Zari, when he came up the one year, like you just don't know when it is, but Zari was on a tear in the American League. I think the first seven or eight games, he was over a point of game.

So you're like, okay, that's what you have to do. You have to be the best player down there and you've got to have that attitude. And then when you get your chance and you come up, then you have to continue to play. play and grab that spot and not go back down. I did want to talk about him, interestingly enough. And kind of the two guys that came up at that same time, Carter Zeri and, of course, Marty Pospisal.

And it felt like we were just talking about this. It's almost like foul money. It's like, yeah, Carter's there was a first rounder, but there's some dynamic skill and there's some, he's got a bit of stink at his game. And Pospisles running around, it felt like this. Okay, the youth, this is two, this is going to be two key cogs potentially moving forward.

forward. Both guys have run into injuries and both guys, even though for Pospasal, he's just starting this contract, but it's not gone as well as either one of them probably would have liked. I guess how would you describe or where are those two add in their respective paths with the flames right now? You know, I think these are big years and it's about first and foremost, it's staying healthy. I mean, that's because I did think Strom and Zari were really building some chemistry. and then he gets hit from behind in the Florida game. And you're like, oh, like every time he's really started to take off on Connor,

he's unfortunately been injured, you know. So we want him to stay healthy, but he looks good in the skates. He's moving well. And we know his skill. I mean, he's got great hands. He's good around the net. He's got all that. And I think with Pospasal, same thing.

He had the, you know, he had the injury last year. It held him out most of the season and almost right to the Olympics. And he never, we couldn't get his, you know, like you have to listen to the doctors. And obviously we're going to do what's right. But his heart rate couldn't get over a certain amount for a certain amount of time. So he really couldn't get it. He wasn't in great shape last year. But he is in good shape now.

He's flying out there. And, you know, he's got to play on the edge. For me, last year, I didn't see that when he came back. He's got to be a guy that playing finishing checks, playing hard. but he's fast. He's going to play center this year. Ryan liked him over at the World Championships at center. So we're going to actually give him a real opportunity there, and he's going to kill penalties.

So he's going to have a role, you know, where Connor's going to be in the power play, POSPA still is going to get some PK time. And I think that's, you've got to get these guys in there and you got to give them a role and you got to explain what you expect of them. And with me, it's possible. So I want you on that line every game. I need you fit. I need people to be upset when you're on. on the ice because when he plays like that,

you have to keep your head up and know when he's out there. So I think just watching him, he's shooting the puck well, he's skating, you know, and he's been here a while now. He should, okay, I feel comfortable, but he's got, I mean, both these guys have a healthy season for once. Yeah, stay healthy. And for those two guys, and then we can move on, but they're in a good spot in that there's ice time available.

It's not like they're going into big years where it's kind of, well, it's time to, time to show some. something, but they're backed up because the top nine or whatever, you're not going to get any quality minutes to prove yourself. There's opportunity there. That's for a lot of these guys. And I did want to ask you about that, just the mood, because even last year coming in, I don't think, I don't think you guys were even able to say the R word, you know, it was one of those things. And then, and then it changed and you made all the moves and it feels like, at least on the outside, like, there's, it's fresh. It's, it's rejuvenating to know that,

It's okay to get young and it's okay to maybe lose some games, but let's see what we're going. Are you feeling that there? Because it's easy for us to say it, but it's a little different for Michael Backland or Jacob Middleton or guys who got some gray in the beard to be saying, yeah, okay, well, it might not be the best year, but hey, it's great for the kids. How do you monitor that? And I guess what's the mood around the guys so far, knowing that this is clearly a rebuild? I will say with all the young kids, the mood is they're enjoying themselves.

They're having fun in the gym. They're having fun. You know, I see the enjoyment of playing in the NHL, and maybe they're not looking at the, you know, we're just going to be a young team. We're rebuilding. But the older guys have been great. Like a guy like White Cloud, Middleton, Strom, that have come in. They understand where the team is, but they think we could be competitive.

And so do I. I mean, I want to be in every game. I want to have an opportunity to win every game. You know, and I want these young guys to learn that how these tight games, you might win some, you might lose some, but it's about playing the right way. It's about sticking up for your teammates if something happens. You want to become a team.

And if these young guys take a step, we're going to be hard out. We're 8-1-1 down the stretch. You know, we lost cadre, we lost Uighur, you lose Anderson. But I think the other guys on the team were like, hey, we're still a good team let's go we weren't great on the road so they got the matchups they want and that'll be a challenge for our young guys okay if we're good at home when we get our matchups but there's going to be times in the road where you're not getting your matchups so you got to step up and play well the energy is infectious from kids and that that that goes a long way so even with the

older guys it's like well it's it's it's way easier to be middle of the pack with a bunch of kids than it is with the veteran squad. Because they're excited to go to the ring. They're not worrying about it. They're like, this is the NHL. Let's go. So I think that probably the veteran guys that are here almost, like I said, it's infectious for them.

Backland might be rejuvenated by having this many kids around saying, come on, Bax, let's give her. Exactly. I mean, I think even when you see Hansig out there with Bax and Farabee and, you know, the guy's joking around, Bax isn't enjoying himself, you know. And he understands. I mean, we all understand the challenge that lays ahead of us for this year.

But again, we were one and nine to start the season last year. That was, it was miserable. Like it was, you know, and that's why I said, we want to be competitive every night. We want to be in the fight right till the very end. And if we are, that means the young guys have done well. And this veteran leadership group has helped the young guys move forward. And then, you know, I mean, I think it's been well documented. I talked to Cole Reshney yesterday.

I congratulate him on being youngest captain North Dakota history. I mean, you're going to see people at different points of the season. You know, so we understand where the team is right now and where we need to go. We weren't good enough. We had great veterans, and I'm not, I don't want to say that, we had great veterans. We had almost made it, you know, we tied with 96 points the year before, almost made the playoffs, and then we started poorly. And I can understand where those veterans said, hey, I'm getting older.

Some of them, you know, in conversation, thought maybe it might be time to move on. You know, not all of them, but some of them. So I understand that part of it. And I do understand where they were coming from. But it really, you know, I love Blake Coleman. I mean, I didn't want to trade Blake Coleman. But I also need Sam Hansig to play those minutes. I need, you know, Connor Zari to play that power play time.

You know, he took up a lot of time and a lot of big minutes and he did a great job at it. But now there's going to be power play, penalty kill, at the end of a game, win, lose. These kids are going to get those opportunities. And now they need to take advantage of that. These kids, and I'm not talking just the flames kids, around the world. The kids now are so skilled that, yes, it sounds crippling to a team to lose a guy like Anderson and cadre. But the kids can play. The kids can play.

The skill level of the kids, the youth, it's amazing. So it's not a zero, a hundred to a zero. Yeah, they'll have some learning and some pain periods, but the talent level for the kids is stunning. It's amazing the skill they have. Like just to watch what they do in confidence. You're like, shoot it up the class and get it out. What do you mean stick handling there?

It's fun. I mean, you know what? That's her mentality. They want to make plays. They want to beat guys 101. They want to use that skill that. It's impressive. It really is. And I mean, they're only getting better. I know they have skills coaches and skating coaches at a very young age. But you watch them. I mean, to watch a guy like Macklin-Colabrini come into the league and do what he's done, you know, you saw Connor McDavid do it. You saw us, but it's not just those top guys. It's all the way through the draft. Here's a question. And I don't know why I thought of it. Coutraoff, we're talking about how skilled the guys are. And I think they are.

And you bring up Celebrini, Kutcherov says a week ago or a couple days ago, yeah, the skill level's good, but the hockey IQs it. Is that the difference maybe between a celebrini and some of the other kids where it's like, yes, I have all that skill, but I'm a smart hockey player.

Is that, do you agree at all with Kuch? I agree because, I mean, the one thing is there's some strong, powerful, skilled players. Maybe they don't, they get by on all that, which would put him probably in a 50 to 80 point range with the skill they have and the power. But it is the hockey sense. It's reading the play. It's seeing everything one step ahead.

And what even when we played right? I mean, there's only so many guys that can do that. You know, so I understand what he's saying. He's probably talking about the top 10% of league, 15%. And there's great players, but they're not, they don't see the game like a Wayne Gratzky. would see the game two, three times steps ahead, you know. And that's the difference between maybe the elite superstar and just a star player, really good player that you like having on your team.

I wanted to ask you about Simone Nemitz. You get your own eyeballs on them in a Flames jersey, albeit just in skates and practice and what have you. But I guess two things. What do you see there with the guy and just expectation levels or where you see him at least maybe starting the year for power, our play minutes, that sort of thing. And I guess secondly, it was one of the first deals, I think, for you, where you pay big to get a guy and then you have to pay him before he's taken a stride as a Calgary flame.

What's the uneasiness there in doing that? Well, you know, we saw him as draft here, obviously second overall pick. You know, maybe the situation wasn't perfect in New Jersey, but we feel like coming in here, he's going to play big minutes every situation. You watch, the one thing I think when we talk about how people see the ice, he sees the whole ice. He's got great touches in its practice, so it's a little bit.

You can see, he finds the right guy, he hits guys in strides, he's got nice touch on his passes, and he sees the whole ice. It makes place. He's got a good shot. He likes to jump into the offense. I do think if we're going to create more offense, we're going to need to have our back end jump up into plays, be more involved to help create odd man rushes

and create two-on-ones and three-on-twos, where it would just be a one-on-one and a two-on-two. If these guys jump in, you know, that's the difference between scoring goals in the NHL and not scoring goals. So, you know, I do think, you know, I know a big thing is like, where is he on? He'll be on the power play, which one?

I don't know. First, second. You know, our power play hasn't been as dynamic as maybe some others. We've been at the bottom of the league. So you could see both Porek and Nemick on the same power play. You know, I do think there's all kinds of possibilities, but you're going to see him play big minutes.

Him and Baller have been together, which I think is good because he knows Baller from New Jersey. And, yeah, I think he wanted a bigger role. Well, he's going to get a bigger role. And he was really good three on three, too, which I'm looking forward to seeing because we haven't been, that hasn't been a strike of our. team in the past. So to bring them in, yet we gave up a lot for him, but we have a lot of belief in

them too. Yeah. And stroking that check, is that you felt you felt confident enough? Yeah. I mean, at the time, I thought, hey, you know, I think it's a good deal for him. It's like, you know, it's a lot of money, not having them never play here. But then, you know, a few weeks later, I'm thinking, wow, I feel like it's a meal. You know, I do think when we first did, made to, you know, we traded for them. Hey, the whole thing is we would have liked to sign them longer, understandably, you know, we could have went shorter, could have went longer, and we found a happy medium that they felt comfortable with, we felt comfortable with, and we got it done. And just with, we know where the salary cap's going. So we thought this is a deal that we feel

very comfortable with on our side. And I didn't realize where maybe the money was going to go with the offer sheet to Carlson and where we've seen it go since. So, yeah, I mean, it's still a lot of money in my mind, but, you know, the league's changing for sure. It's crazy. I mean, I, oh, the jump is astounding this year. And it's, you don't have to play in the, you know, I think that's, Brett, you know, you know where it was.

We had to wait till 32 to be the team. You were dying to get to free agency to finally make, yeah. Yeah. So it's just a different, a different game, a different, you know. Well, it goes back to what we talked about. The kids are better. They're there. Well, me, not better than you, but they were better than I was at 21.

No, they're better than me. I mean, I, like that's why I said, I watched the skill, watch what they do. Even I was just talking to Connor Zari, you know, I wanted to play four or five games. I had to finish. I had to do all those. I wanted to take as many faceoffs. I wanted to get in game shape. because it wasn't like a dangling pretty game.

It was like up and down and grind. Same way you play hard. You have to play hard. And I wanted to play more preseason games to get ready for that first game. I couldn't play one or I wouldn't like that personally. But, you know, it's a new, there's so much better. You know, camp's not a month anymore like it was. Any fatties show up to the guys like.

No, you know what? I was watching thinking, okay, are we going to have. But I think, yeah, there's guys that still want to test. They would like to show us. Oh, they braggy. And I said, absolutely not. We'll end it right there. That's not even going to be a conversation because the rules are the rules and we're going to follow them.

But I understand where it's more of the younger guys wanted to to say, I had a great summer. I want to, they don't mind the testing. But, you know, the PA set the rules with the NHL. and we'll live by it. But no, I didn't feel like anybody, and you can tell on the ice. Oh, for sure. Way behind drags.

Look at how red the face is. Yeah. I mean, I feel like Zane, even last night watching him, I thought his skating, he had a little extra step. He got hit a few times. He hit a few guys. He just looked stronger in battles, which was exciting for me.

You know, and he tried to make plays all the time, which I like. And he's going to figure out exactly what he can do, what he can't do. He was in the rush a few times. The puck didn't get to him. But again, that's what I was talking about him. Assume you have had a little quick two-on-one. The puck, the pass didn't get to him. But those are the things are how we're going to create a little more offense. I do want to get you out of here. I don't want to get greedy with time. But I didn't want to ask you about Zane. A year ago, it was, well, he can't go to the A,

but is he going to make the team that he's going to go to World Juniors. Well, he should. There was just so much just outside stuff that had to affect him. I know what affected you. guys. It just, it feels like all of that's stripped away and he could just play. Do you see that kind of freedom now just with him either in the room or on the ice? I'm sure you guys must feel it. Well, you know, seeing him around the locker room and just the way he's enjoying himself with his teammates, having fun, joking around. Like it was very tense last year for him. And even when I listened to his interviews, it sounds like it completely, I mean, I don't know if you guys heard him, but he just sounds so much more confident. He knows.

what to expect and he's looking forward for the season to get going. And it was a long, hard season last year, you know, but I give him credit. Like, he battled through at an unbelievable role juniors. And the way he finished is the way we want him to start. And just watching them last night, you know, I thought it's compete, you know, trying to make plays. You made some great passes. Again, it was a sloppy game at times, but ice looked just okay. You know, what it's like out there is bouncing around. But, uh, it was. You know, I think just his overall... He's maturing.

It's great. He's in a good place. Yeah, exactly. How was the summer? You got some lake time, right? Yeah, you know what? Right after Halinga, I went back to New York, and the weather was really nice. So I was happy, you know, but then now I'm ready to get going.

It's hockey season. The weather here has, it's been good a couple days, but man, this rain's been making me crazy. Yeah, finally has so. Thanks, buddy. We appreciate it. Jumping on here. He just takes days off. Yeah, yeah. I don't.

Like, it's going to be scary, but, you know, I think they're going to have an unbelievable team in Medicine Hat. They're very good. Yeah, they're, yeah. Well, there's aren't even back. They're not even there. Their top three forwards aren't there. They'll be all right. We got a wagon going.

you can be come unbelievably deniable and where it's like, well, fine, we'll just trade you to another team. But there's only so many spots

I made Florida, went to World, juniors and i was convinced after world juniors it was back to junior back to saskatoon and i was like oh no because you don't want somebody else taking that spot and that's a whole other year and things

change blah blah blah blah blah if you've got your foot in the door you yeah get through the door be integral to what they're doing and he has to be thinking that does it the end of the world if he goes and blazing the Wranglers? Absolutely not. But as a player, you're going, F me. Yeah. This.

And I often wonder what's, what's easier or what's, what makes it worse, that you're in the same building and down the hall. In one, one respect. Well, you're close. I know some of the guys. Got practice. I'm not part of it. There they go.

They're going on that road trip. Oh, private jet? Yeah, we're busing to wherever. I don't know. what makes that easier. Bakersfield, hey? Yeah.

Yeah. The one thing about this camp is there really aren't that many jobs available. You start looking at what it is, which again is disappointing probably for prospects. You'd like to think here's a young rebuilding team and there should be a bunch of jobs. They've traded a bunch of guys away. There's not a ton because of all the way. There's not an NHL team in the world.

There's not an NHL team that has six spots open. It just doesn't happen. no right maybe they wanted two spots here or there i mean vancouver would be the same way they're worse in the league they're going to have guys under contract that are kind of slotted in there it's there there's no team that's going to be come on in show us what you got if you're the best player on the ice during training camp well it's not how it works yeah it'd be in your head thinking well this is a rebuilding

team they're going young and i still can't get a sniff well how the hell am i ever I think they'll continue to dismantle and move guys in and out. Spots will open up. So it can't be a one week. I've been really good for one week. I'm on the team. It's a I'm here. Keep watching me.

I'm ready. Okay. Here's a spot. And one other guy, we didn't get to it there. Not that he's going to say a whole lot, but it's Morgan Frost. We've talked about it.

This is he's, he's one of, he's your best center, I believe. And he's going to need a contract. And with where it's going is he, part of that curb because he's a center? Do you have to make him part of where you go?

And it depends on what your other guys are doing. And now. And what other teams want to give you for him. Yeah. Like that, all those are big considerations. If you become, again, if you're a 20 goal centerman,

you're not perfect, but you're a guy that's scoring 20 goals in the national hockey league. What's a 20 goal centerman worth of this? Exactly. And then you put on what these guys are making now. be a tough pill to swan I was going to ask him he wouldn't have an answer and it's not important

but he answered the question but in today's world with the amount of talents out there there was always this oh it's going to get watered down and shitty there's there are kids playing in the HL and

that could play in HL hockey I don't you kind of cringe oh another team they're good players cares. Like how many teams are starving for for talent? Yeah, our team here is in a rebuild mode, but you've got some of the some of the most highly touted prospects on your blue line. Yeah. You've got a captain. Again, it goes back. It's you and me. It's too old guys,

because I'm, I'm sure I'm thinking of it the same way you are back not that long ago. But when you were, when you were drafted, there were some guys that were drafted out of the Western league or whatever that you knew were, oh, they're never going to play. Balls of mud. Like they're slow and big and clunky. Wow, you got drafted. Whereas there's so many kids, like you say now, they can all skate. They're all fit.

They're all, they're all very skilled to be able to just make a trade and send off a, he's a talented winger. Teams have talented wingers out the yinger. Oh, yeah. You know, it's stacked up. Yeah. It is a different, a different time for sure. They will play tomorrow against Vancouver.
