Sam Hansick announced as week to week with a lower body injury.
Injured in the game against Colorado Thursday,
kind of went back to luck.
He was on the ice late in that game.
He played 15, just under 16 minutes.
What do we know about this injury or what do you know about this injury?
Because week to week is, it's not what he needs right now.
Well, I mean, they're saying week to week.
So from what I understand, they're saying week to week because they don't know exactly how long
it's going to be, but they're, they're like fully confident that it's not going to be a long,
long term one or, or anything that starts to really mess with his ability to finish the season
or anything like that. So I know that much. I know that essentially right now, they're,
they're kind of just starting the right. I guess shutting Hansek down for a little bit just
to make sure whatever happened, they can calm down a little bit. And that that's the,
that they're really, they're really quite confident, though, that like, this is not going to be something
that drags on into December and stuff like that.
So it is week to week, but like week to week means two weeks sometimes
or it could mean six, seven, eight weeks.
But I think it's going to be, if all goes according to plan,
it's going to be on the shorter end of that.
And it's too bad because, again, that's the third straight season or fourth straight season
that Sam Hansek has started well and then an injuries derailed him early on.
And they've all been different.
They've all like there's, there's a skate cut.
one year. He ran into his captain last
year. There was the Connor Murphy hit
a few years ago that knocked him out.
Now this being a lower body one
that doesn't sound like it was even
sustained like in a
hit or anything physical.
Just one of those potential
non-contact things that happens. So
yeah, I feel awful for the guy and
you just hope that it goes the way
because boom, how many times did we have
the conversations early on in
Michael Backland's career where it was
injury after injury.
It's so similar.
Oh, I mean, he, yeah, and I was convinced.
This guy can't, he's a first rounder.
He's not shown anything that would get you drafted in the first round.
And he can't stay healthy.
It just felt to me like, this is a guy that'll just go.
He'll, he'll, and Sweden, some European team and just play over there.
And he's still here.
I hope it's the same for Hansik, but I got to feel, I feel it like I'm much in the same
spot where when we talk about where this team is going to be in two or three,
four years down the road. Ryan, you know, Hansik, it's not a Ryan take, but I just always say, until
until I see that he's able to remain in the lineup for any amount of time and, and show some
something, I have a hard time giving him a spot on this team down the road if I'm putting this
team together. It all comes down to whether or not it goes the way it did for Michael, right? Like,
now Backland is one of the most durable players in the NHL and you can expect. He turns out.
It's 38 March, and you can still expect him to play, oh, 84 games.
That's easy-peasy.
It's why everybody, everybody's pretty convinced that he's going to set the all-time record in Pastor Oams number of 1219 this year because it's, what, 72 games is all he needs to play this year.
In 72 games, Michael does that in his sleep now, right?
So you hope that it goes that way for Hansek that, you know, it is just because I remember with Backland, yeah, there were some non-contact things.
There were some, if there was a groin in there.
Pinky injury.
His hand.
Yeah, the pinky early on in the season.
And now all of a sudden that's behind him.
So like Hansek has put on a ton of weight over the last couple of years.
We're up to like, I think we're probably talking like 15, 16, 17 pounds.
He works his ass off in the summer.
Like he, conditioning wise, this isn't a situation where the guy hasn't put the work in
and hasn't gone down the road that the training staff has asked of him.
It's just the injuries have piled up.
And so you hope that this turns into a scenario because you do feel for the guy that, you know, he's, he's not, he's not a guy who's injury prone.
And he's a guy that's just had some unlucky injuries here early on in his career.
And until we see how it goes, we don't really know.
Like I get why I saw it all over social media yesterday.
I get why people like, oh, another injury.
Like, is this going to be the story of Hansa's career?
And we don't know.
But I do know he puts the work in.
I do know that he's addressed all of this stuff in, in multiple.
summers. So hopefully it pays off and that it does start to turn into more of a durable
career here. Like he just doesn't play.
He got a draft draft here. He only had 40.
So what's going to do? Let's show him. Show him. Let's take a lot. Go full on.
Redd there. Okay. So.
Rett was always good at the sit and reach. Yeah. Croner. Yeah.
Croner. Yeah. He's played more than 40, more than 45 games once in the last four years.
You can tell him that. One tell them the stretch. Stretch is. Yeah.
because we do believe it's a lower body.
Yes.
His lower body, yep.
Yeah.
The arm is with hamstring issues before.
Oh, he tore his calf on our watch party last year.
Tell you all about it.
Jeez.
