Starting point is 00:00:13 All right. We are wheels up on the Friday edition of the podcast. Welcome to Barnburner, Boomer, Pinder, and Warner. We are somewhat of a disheveled crew today. Hodgepodge, group of idiots. Pinder, it's Hawaiian shirt day, so he could have worn a Hawaiian shirt and jeans, but forgot his Hawaiian shirt. It was dad's breakfast at the elementary school, so I was up at six. Thanks for being voluntold that Mama Bear. and because of that, I did not have my usual Friday stroll through the Hawaiian shirt aisle of the closet. So, and the hair is glorious. I'm just like, I'm going to let the hair out and skirt. Yeah, hort. And sunglasses as well.
Starting point is 00:00:55 I can't have the tropical vibes. I may as well put the shades on like the boom cat. There you go. And not wearing shades, but not at the, at his usual spot is, is the Redster at Warner. What did you say it's a disaster? and we said, well, hang on. We're going to start this thing and you can fill us in. So you're obviously on the move.
Starting point is 00:01:16 What is happening? I've been detained. Pardon me? At the border crossing. So things have really, things have really unraveled. Oh, dear. You know what?
Starting point is 00:01:33 You get found with a few pounds of Coke in the fender wells of your car. It's personal consumption. All of a sudden, everyone loses their sense of humor. You're a trafficker. Like, come on. It's for me. A personal conception. It's Friday.
Starting point is 00:01:47 No, no, I didn't know it was there. I was parked at the airport. Someone must have stuffed it in there. That's right. The tracking device on my vehicle. I didn't know it was there. Had no idea. So how is this show going to be received when someone comes to your vehicle?
Starting point is 00:02:03 You're clearly waiting for someone to talk to you. No, no, no. I got across. I was, I had the wrong. I thought I had my, I had the wrong paperwork or card. You did this when you played in the IHL, didn't you? With the Vipers? How did you learn?
Starting point is 00:02:21 No, I didn't have any paperwork then. Well, that's not having your paperwork in order. Same thing. No, no, just, well, yeah. But I had, I just, I grabbed, well, I had the wrong. Apparently you need more than one piece of IP. And it has to be a legitimate, like, you're, It doesn't work.
Starting point is 00:02:44 Jesus Christ. So you didn't bring your passport. If you would have brought your passport, is it just straight through Mr. Warner? Yeah. Your anchor bar wing stamp card isn't enough for them to verify you. Guess the green card doesn't get you back into Canada. So crossing the border. Need a passport.
Starting point is 00:03:03 You need a passport. I'm going to write that. 2023. And this is onto the list of travel foibles just this season of Barnburg. Foybles. him booking two tickets for one of his children and not one for another on a flight from Hamilton back to Calgary and booking the wrong day on a flight from Calgary back to Hamilton.
Starting point is 00:03:22 This is now your third travel mishap, Brett. Fourth. This year. Fourth. What are we missing? The rental car fiasco. You hold note? What's going on?
Starting point is 00:03:36 I guess they were kind of combined. They were just one of them was combined. So, yeah. So it's all right. And it was two tickets. for me, by the way, Mr. Westjet people, please call me back. You said you'd call me back to discuss this.
Starting point is 00:03:50 Yes, sir, with the long arms. We'll be sure to call you back about this. Please get on the plane. So, yeah, I mean, there it is. For a guy that travels a fair bit, there's a lot of hiccups. Yeah. For the other thing, I got to be out of here in a half hour, too. Right. Good thing we waited for him.
Starting point is 00:04:09 Welcome to the Tower Chrysler Studios. Tower Chrysler. They're doing it better than anybody else. They're the best. In the Dodge Chrysleram business in Southern Alberta. I'm going to say all of Alberta. Screw it. They are a consumer choice awards winner and we love them and they're good people.
Starting point is 00:04:24 And Serge is there. And Nikki is there. The nation truck's making some appearances at some sexy places all of a sudden. It's getting noticed. Keep your eye out. Get that Jeep out of your driveway. Let's go. I didn't notice.
Starting point is 00:04:34 Had the peel the doors and the top off last weekend. Oh, I hope you didn't do that two days ago. that would have surge. So how waterproof is this car? No, it's all good. So thanks to Tower Kreiser for being part of it. Special guests in studio today. We had Huska, and I know you'd mentioned you were chatting at some point recently with Matt Stagin.
Starting point is 00:04:56 I'd mention Mike Vernon was here. Who's today? We got... Iggy. Iggy. Maybe next week. Really? No.
Starting point is 00:05:05 No. Mark is here. Mark. Jordano? I don't know who he is. Gio? It's Mark and Carrie. Marky Mark and the funky? Bunch.
Starting point is 00:05:17 Walbert. Good vibrations. Yeah, he's got the same abs. Same abs. No, Mark was, you know what retro? He was the winning bidder of our Barnburner experience package with the Christmas campaign. Closer to home. We raised almost $21,000. And part of that was Mark's generous contribution.
Starting point is 00:05:37 He wants to watch us eat. So is he really wowed so far? So wowed. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. The free Captain Morgan's mug as well. The cable's everywhere, the late start.
Starting point is 00:05:49 Yeah. He's really, you know what? Jack has put on a good show, though. He's very impressed. Yeah, Jack's impressed the crew. So thank you, Mark. Money went to a great cause. Putting Christmas trees and presents under trees and all that for a lot of
Starting point is 00:06:04 needy homes last Christmas. So appreciate that. Appreciate that a lot. You mentioned Iggy. is this Conroy's kind of first hire? Is this how this works? No previous managerial experience. He's not even living in Calgary.
Starting point is 00:06:19 But I guess it's just, who are my buddies? I'm just bringing my frigging buddies in. Yeah, Rhett, who are his buddies, Rhett? Well, we know one of his buddies. So where are these guys on the responding to Rhett's text spectrum? Because we know that's what we are. I said to, Iggy was quick to respond the other day. He's proper.
Starting point is 00:06:42 He said, congratulations, young man. And he said, thank you, Retro. Could have called you old man. So that's nice to him, man. The two words, the three words, to thank you, retro? Mm-hmm. Then I didn't know what else. I was going to say, this is the least surprising news I've ever heard.
Starting point is 00:07:00 So I'm not going to ask how it came about or pretend not to understand. How was the interview process? No. Who else was in the running? For this special advisor to the general manager. You narrowly edged out Christoph Oliwa. Because he didn't have a passport like Red. So, yeah, I mean, I'm thinking even back at the radio show,
Starting point is 00:07:24 and we were doing it there. You threw, like, again, it's going to be part of this team at some point. I'm sorry. I wish that there were lines on some of these predictions I made as far as betting. Yeah, because the thing is, if you're making outlandish one and that doesn't happen,
Starting point is 00:07:39 you're like, ah, it was a thousand to one anyway. But if you hit on one of those 1,000 to ones, you're in the gravy. And you had said, I think, very early in the Sutter thing, if this doesn't work, do not be surprised if it's Connie and he brings in Iggy and that will be the next chapter and the next era of Flames hockey.
Starting point is 00:07:56 And sure enough, here we are. Jack Adams and then an awful season later, the Sutter era is over. As is the true living era. It's just teeth everywhere with those guys. Who turned on the lights. Just grinning and picking and grinning everywhere they go. Happy, happy, happy joy, joy.
Starting point is 00:08:15 So great. Look at them. Didn't they also, like, they've been tight for so many years. Didn't they also have, like, kids at the same time? Like, their kids were staggered and this sort of thing. But the best part, though, about it, what I think about with these two idiots is not their hockey prowess or this. Is them arguing over age of empires on the airplane. That's what I think.
Starting point is 00:08:38 think about. You had said there was nothing they wouldn't fight about, be competitive about everything. Name calling and taking shots and not talking to each other. Like it. Cheating and like just not good. It's the full barn burner experience, like that sounds like it is.
Starting point is 00:08:57 Yeah. We're just. Yeah. It's, that's what I think about with those guys. So I mean, I guess that's good. They're highly competitive.
Starting point is 00:09:07 That's good. So what is, what's the criteria when you're the special advisor? Learn as much as you can, I think would be the MO. Yeah, I think the, I think what it is is, will allow you to stay in Colonna and coach your kid and as soon as you're ready to come here. So do as much as you can or want this year. Craig, I haven't watched much hockey in like the last two years. I don't even know who's playing or anything. One year, catch up.
Starting point is 00:09:34 But here's the thing. It's the exact opposite because it's as old as kids draft you. this year and in two years it's Joe's draft class. He will have seen a lot of the players that are going to step to a podium in the next day. I mean, NHL lives, though. Sure. But again, I still don't think it's like we have to teach him how an NHL organization operates. Like, he's going to have some. I was perhaps exaggerating to stop taking you literally. I, like, he does have some interesting angles. I'm guessing he's probably watched some hockey over the last two years. I've been discussing this with the shoveler, Ryan. Like, when I say, yeah, what about pizza tonight?
Starting point is 00:10:08 doesn't mean I ordered pizza for tonight. Right. You're throwing it out as a potential possibility. Yeah, you're trying to justify the hire to me. You don't need to. To be fair, it was not for you, but for the listeners, I don't know how many people know that he would be very closely having seen a lot of the top prospects
Starting point is 00:10:28 of the next three draft classes. That's all. A little tidbit there. Shut up, I mention it once or twice on the show. It's true. It is. It's not nothing. I think it's an interesting angle for this next three drafts.
Starting point is 00:10:41 So my kids are younger. Does that mean I get, in three years, I get special advisor? Advisor? I would keep texting them, Rhett. I wouldn't stop. At least respond to the last one. If they're collecting friends, I would remind them. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:57 Put the bad back together, fellas. Let's go. Quite a shift in a short amount of time. Yeah. Coach, GM, greatest player in franchise history back. It's a lot is happy. Are we happy? Again, the press conferences and the announcements have gone great.
Starting point is 00:11:19 Like, we'll talk in November and see how this team's. Yeah, it's a lot of chicklets. Everything's, everything's good. Yeah, and the flames have traded Noah Hannafin for a sixth round pick. The chicklets aren't there for that. Like, now the rubber hits the road. It's great that you've collected good people. Now let's see how good they are to the jobs.
Starting point is 00:11:33 And we hope they're very good because, frankly, many of them have been working a long time for these jobs. Oh, they'll be here for a good decade. It's not a one year thing. But you're going to do the Vegas model. I'm all for it. Just make the right choices. And make sure you can get out of the shitty ones.
Starting point is 00:11:50 Right. The key is that Connie, he's going to kick himself upstairs like George McPhee in Vegas and then hire Iggy as the GM. And then you'll come in as the assistant to Iggy. And then everyone just keeps moving up the rung and you fire the person at the bottom. It's beautiful. What do you want?
Starting point is 00:12:03 What can we get you? Yeah. So much is changing. The doors, it's like saloon doors. People going in, people leave. And now's the time. What do we want? Let's get to work.
Starting point is 00:12:15 Management, coaching, organizational, roving. What do we do? We'll put in a good word. What do you want to do? I'm easy to be, I'm easy to please. There's only one thing I really want. It's a big, the Vegas nights just got it. It's a big silver thing.
Starting point is 00:12:31 Right. I love to drink. And there's a cup that I need to drink. drink out of. And that's, once that happens, you can put me out to pasture. I'm done, man.
Starting point is 00:12:41 Like, that's, this is it. But you want a scout? You want a coach? You want to be a manager? I don't care. Put me where you need me.
Starting point is 00:12:48 This is like if you're, if Conroy and they're the guys, they're going to put their people in a position where they can have success, just like coaches and the guys on the power play. Put me in a position where it can help you succeed. I can succeed. Let's go get a cup. Come on.
Starting point is 00:13:05 It's a special assistant to the head chef at the Saddle Dome, events coordinator, and popcorn quality control connoisseur. Radiation monitor, airplane monitor. Bologna on the charter. Yeah. Blue light therapy, red light therapy. So we're not going to like his pseudoscience, are they? They're going to love my pseudoscience.
Starting point is 00:13:26 Not to pivot, but we got into a great. It wasn't even a debate. We just broke new ground yesterday. Really? And Jack was saying unbelievable on social media and just on the chat, the feedback that we got. We really started, well, we talked about spoons. Like spooning? No.
Starting point is 00:13:46 Okay. The card game spoons? No. Just spoons. Spoons. Spoons. Spoons. The spoon that we use and how it differs to say the Asian spoon, like for fah or ramen.
Starting point is 00:14:02 You're saying fuff. Very well. With the flat bottom. Yeah, it's like, it's flat. Because somebody had put on Twitter, what the hell are we doing with this other spoon? Because it doesn't. Just topsy-turvy. This other one's, it's almost got like, it's like got walls on it.
Starting point is 00:14:13 Stable base. What are we doing over here? Let's figure this out. We're just going to stick with the fork, like the fork as opposed to say the chop sticks. It's a lot of work. But we got talking about the spoon and there was some debate on that and people were, were having opinions. And then it kind of got into soup.
Starting point is 00:14:33 and Red had the idea, we absolutely need to do a soup draft. Oh. A soup bracket. I wholeheartedly endorse the soup bracket. We need to do some research. At least I do specifically. It's what we said. We don't know where ramen falls in.
Starting point is 00:14:51 We don't know where fa. Where is the thickness, the consistency of the soup? When are you into stew as opposed to soup? You know, the chunky thing. It's a spoon or a fork. It's tail as old as time. If it's hot and it's a liquid in a bowl, I feel like that's probably a good starting place. But you're right.
Starting point is 00:15:07 There are some gray areas. Yeah, it doesn't nail. Stu does feel like, what are we doing here? It feels like a cold weather deal, retro. Can we wait till fall? November? We can wait till fall. It's a nice Christmas thing.
Starting point is 00:15:20 Yeah, we can wait to fall. Whatever. Whatever. I just think it's fascinating to pender to regale you with our insight. Like, immediately the chunky, oh, not the chunky, the chicken noodle jumps to mind as a can't lose candidate. But then I said to boom, I said,
Starting point is 00:15:41 that is a North American phenomenon. And I think if you include the globe and the rest of the world, you're going to find that a beautiful ramen or the f and all, you know what I mean? Different regions of this globe are going to have outstanding candidates as far as a soup goes. I almost feel like it's one of those brackets where you have to have an international side and a North American side and the winners square off in the final. I'm glad we've got months to sink into this because it's, uh, I just, you know, here's the thing. We're going to put a lot of work and time and effort and a lot of our heart.
Starting point is 00:16:16 We're going to pour our heart into this thing. Yes. And then if chicken noodle just wins at the end, it's going to feel like much ado about nothing. Or it'll be validating what we believe to be true, that it is a great soup. Yeah. Or both. Maybe we'll ask Iggy. It'd be a great question for Iggy.
Starting point is 00:16:32 That's a soup eaten. So congrats on Return to the Flames. That's soup eating or ramen. Yeah. Pretty cool though. I mean, just and we'll move on because we're done with it. But to see again, Lynn,
Starting point is 00:16:45 all of that come back. That was one of those ones retro. You knew that probably again was going to want to get back into the game. We had some fun about the hip and not drafting his kid. But if there was a scenario that existed where all of a sudden he's in Boston, on a managerial side or somewhere else. Oh, ours. but not have gone over well.
Starting point is 00:17:03 It's been a bit of a trend, I guess, to see some guys, jury and Debriere. I guess St. Louis wasn't a Montreal Canadian, but there has been a bit of it going around the league. And I am not surprised at all, but I'm also extremely happy that they're both there, right? John Leclair just got brought in in Philly yesterday, I believe. This is a very normal thing that happens.
Starting point is 00:17:26 Our dad loves John Leclair. He must be a huge fan of that hiring. Big fan. Yeah, big man on that high. Yeah, for sure. Come on, no, it's not nice. I'm happy for the community because I think what it does is it puts a positive spin on this organization. Not that it's been a bad look for the organization at all.
Starting point is 00:17:44 They've been trudging along and good years and bad years. But I do think that there's a heart and soul aspect that they bring in these two guys in that, you know, kind of portrays itself out over the community. You know what you're getting. I think the communities always love these guys, and they're going to believe in what they're going to try and do. Yeah, there's a turning of a page, but it's not just that. It's also that these are good, good guys that people have fallen in love with for their playing skills, and you're now hoping they can replicate some of that success at the managerial level.
Starting point is 00:18:20 I mean, who doesn't love these guys? You kidding? It again comes back to you want things to go well for them. Of course. No matter who was hired, I'm sure that people are feeling like, but especially the former guys because you don't want any sort of tarnish. You don't want Connie to swap out Lindholm for a fifth rounder, and you're thinking, oh, boy.
Starting point is 00:18:36 So who's the next darling that we can bring in? I mean, Huska was charming. He charmed the pants right off of us the other day. Everyone loves Iggy. Conroy, of course, is Conroy. Who's the next, aw, aw, shucks, golly, gee, guy, nice guy to get in there? If you want my honest opinion, Alex Tanger. Dang's his name's floated around as well.
Starting point is 00:19:02 If someone can help a power play. I was going to say. Not the worst guy. With the HL team being here, it doesn't even necessarily need to be a position on the staff of the big club so much as like, just work with our NHL club, our HL club, go visit process, go be a roving skills coach for a bit. And we'll see if you like it and how it's working. And then, you know, at some point we might need someone to jump on the bench or maybe it's out right now. But you're speaking about a skill set that's pretty rare. Like he was one of those guys that had no difficulty creating offense,
Starting point is 00:19:33 really creative offensive line. We've talked about it. Now, can you hire up if you're the general manager? Can you hire a president? Can you go ahead? They have one. But yeah, who would it be?
Starting point is 00:19:42 Lanny. Oh, yeah, of course. We've talked about this for years. I'm with you. And they always should have had Lanny involved. I almost feel like it, well, you can never have too much Lanny. I don't know if that. But I wonder if Craig and the gear go,
Starting point is 00:19:59 well, we can't hire too many of the old boys. Yeah. In the chat, I'm in the chat, so what about Jelina? Where's Jellina been? He's still around, right? He's doing squats somewhere. He's on a treadmill at full incline running at 10 miles an hour somewhere for sure. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:15 Just cracking a bead. Yeah. Oh, yeah. I like it, though. Now, just win. Now just do the hardest thing, though. Now that the easy stuff's done, go do the hard. wonder if that needs to be preached or put out to the general fan base.
Starting point is 00:20:33 It's not a guarantee Stanley Cop next year, right? Tough to win. Tough league. Yeah, hardly. Hardly. Still a hard league. It's a very tough league to play. Yeah, I know Wachs.
Starting point is 00:20:44 I played in it. Yeah, thanks, Wax. Outdoor dental. Do you think Iggy snores? I don't think he does. No, he's not. Yeah. Just open airways.
Starting point is 00:20:56 Oliwas, Sniwos, Snihan would have been a snorer. Yeah. Not Iggy, he's too perfect. It's dentistry with no needles, no drills, no stress. The Soleil laser treatment,
Starting point is 00:21:06 an excellent solution for anyone who just got better things to do than being a dental chair. This is the way to do it. In addition to your dental work, the snoring treatments we've talked about it. Two 15-minute treatments with the solacea laser increases the tension in the soft palate
Starting point is 00:21:21 and will reduce your snoring. Non-surgical pain, free, start sleeping better, start feeling better. Come on now. Do it. Who doesn't want to have a great night sleep? How many studies, right? You're all in studies about having quality sleep, the type of sleep, uninterrupted sleep. It's life-changing stuff. Dr. J. Patel is just sitting there waiting for you. Outdoor. Dot dental is the website. Go and get on it. Go in and see the folks. Put on your blue lockers and sleep well, right, right? That's what you always. we say. Oh, so good.
Starting point is 00:21:59 So good. So we talked about the ginla and spoons and soup and you almost getting thrown in jail because you don't have a passport. Are you going to need one to get back in now? I have a passport. I was this is what's happening. We've got a tournament. We're playing
Starting point is 00:22:19 a game here. And it's down. The Peace Bridge is right here. I got it. My green card, my nexus. I was going to pop across, grab a hockey stick, and then come back. Didn't have my passport. Apparently, you need your passport. Apparently.
Starting point is 00:22:38 So did they turn it around, or are you know, stuck on the other side? Where are we at? Yeah, where are you? No, I'm back. I'm good. I'm good. Canada or the U.S.? U.S.
Starting point is 00:22:47 Okay. And do you have a stick or no stick? I didn't get stick because I ran out of time. I got the business. It's unbelievable. Some great folk. Some really nice folk. So the reason you went was to get a stick. You've gone over and back and didn't get the stick.
Starting point is 00:23:06 Right out of time. Well, I got interrogated a bit when I didn't have. You know what they said? You're going to have to park over there. You can't hold up the line. You don't have the right. Do you have a cavity searches or anything? You're all right?
Starting point is 00:23:25 Nobody asked for one. You volunteer? check me out I don't know you ready I'm ready I got some gloves for you there's a chance I mean look a little harder
Starting point is 00:23:38 at my history there I don't know maybe you would even just a finger hearing loss clinic we've told you about it hearing loss dot CA I went and had my assessment done
Starting point is 00:23:50 details coming up no spoilers details coming up myself and RJ and the tan man we went over there awesome place awesome people and it is it's for hearing that it would be eye opening,
Starting point is 00:24:03 but it really was. And no spoilers, but you're not dead yet. Still here, folks. Yeah. Yeah, still here. Was it yesterday or two days ago,
Starting point is 00:24:11 you just wanted to stop breathing, but you're still here. Yeah. You know what it is, though, is now I'm getting mad at my wife. Oh, that's not good. Because she'll say something.
Starting point is 00:24:18 You know what it was yesterday? She says, I put the thing and she closed the door, like slam. What's that? I put the suit. Well, no, I heard you. But you slammed the door as you were talking.
Starting point is 00:24:31 You were brushing your teeth the other day as you trying to talk to you. You got a motor next to your ear. I'm brushing my... This has been building up. This must have been a sense of a weight lifted, Dean, when you realize that you aren't dead yet. I can't wait for you to present your significant other
Starting point is 00:24:50 with the results from the hearing loss. So I hear, enough of your attitude towards my hearing. That's going to go. Put this in your, nine locations. Five in BC, four in the city of Calgary. Find the one that is most convenient for you. Have an assessment done today. Routly.
Starting point is 00:25:11 It's, uh, the technology is amazing. It really is. It's like, holy cow, I can't believe you can do that. On social at the hearing loss on Twitter, Instagram, the hearing loss clinic, hearing loss. com. Help them change people's lives. You pay attention on the social teams.
Starting point is 00:25:28 You might want a jersey or something. I got all kinds of good. stuff going. They're always doing stuff. Rosie's got his social media team. Right. Like that. You know, technology and stuff. Technology and stuff.
Starting point is 00:25:41 Sweaty keys. They got it all for you. Let's do the Pinder Report. Let's get to it. A presentation of Village Honda. Father's Day this weekend, if you buy a new or pre-owned vehicle, you know, between now and then, you're going to get, in addition to that vehicle that you've purchased a wonderful family pack to go and watch Calvary FC at an upcoming home game at
Starting point is 00:26:05 Atco Field. Just another reason to go and visit the good people at Village Honda in the Northwest Automall and online at VillageHonda.com. Village Honda presents the Pinder Report. Ryan Pinder, Ryan Pindo. Ryan Pindle. Let the good times roll, boys. Jerome McGinla is back.
Starting point is 00:26:23 I think we even have a Beasley Jerome McGinla somewhere. Look at that. How could you not love that face? He's requested that they play that whenever he walks into a boardroom or into an office. That's it. Number 12. Oh, geez. Could you play the thing?
Starting point is 00:26:51 Dude, play the thing. 12. He was walking in. Yeah, hi, Jerome. Great. Going over a few things. Okay, guys, sounds great. So that's the feel good story from the last 24 hours.
Starting point is 00:27:04 Unfortunately, there's a feel bad one that seven hours ago appears. via the athletic. Katie Strang, as well as Julian McKenzie and Haley Salvean, have released a story on Daryl Sutter that indicates there was, well, an investigation internally. I'll read you the highlighted passage here.
Starting point is 00:27:24 In November, the franchise lost an internal investigation to probe an incident after Sutter allegedly made physical contact with the player on the bench during a game. That's bad. That's definitely not the alleged thing. be bad. Further in the article, we'll turn to the next page here. Players and staff members were interviewed about the alleged incident. According to multiple league sources, the player told his teammates he did not find the contact who have crossed the line and did not want the matter
Starting point is 00:27:51 escalated. Too bad, the athletics escalating. But hey, I mean, look, it wasn't a great year. We are only starting to learn more and more about what didn't happen. And I, this is a weird one, because you can't do this at a bank, but this is pro sports and this is different. And the player, whoever it may be, who obviously does not want to be identified, didn't seem to think a crossline or didn't want to get his coach in trouble. I got an idea of what might have happened, but I'm not going to expand on it. Okay. Because then they'll be phoned me for interviews and comments.
Starting point is 00:28:26 They want you to phone you for an interview, but that's about that assistant chef popcorn quality control position that's open. I was most impressed by the graphic that we had there, our Telestrator, just how, impressive that looked to highlight the the quotes there the important, the focus of that of that column. That was the cart tallboys,
Starting point is 00:28:49 the little wiggly finger today. Almost looked like somebody just went on their phone and dragged their dumb finger across it. Highlighted a passage. This is going great. Why don't we move on? That's wonderful.
Starting point is 00:29:01 Thank you for that. Pretty quiet in NHL circles. We're getting a little bit of rumors. Buy out window open today. Nobody on waivers to get bought out yet. It sounds like there's some rumor surrounding Toronto Austin Matthews that they could be reunited on a new deal
Starting point is 00:29:15 maybe more easily as we previously had thought. Yeah, Your Living went down, got the back rub in. Deep tissue helping out Austin with his shoulders. Picked up Shane Don, they're both massaging them. Yeah, he's got Shane Donne. He's got one leg. In his carry on, I'm taking you back to Toronto, Mr. Now, Austin, what about here?
Starting point is 00:29:34 How's the pressure? Is this okay? You just let me know if it's too much. You know, it's too much pressure. The finishing move if they get Matthews Inc to the extension is they gave the tour of the Tempe rink. I'm not fucking going here. Okay, I'll re-sign. Damn it, this place blows.
Starting point is 00:29:51 I've already played junior. We'll move to the NBA. Everyone I think has fallen in love with Nicola Yokik, the Serbian sensation. This is only helping the legend grow. He lost the finals MVP trophy. Here's this quote. I really don't know. I left in the equipment manager's room.
Starting point is 00:30:12 It's not there anymore. So I don't know. He doesn't give a shit. No, he doesn't give a shit. It's beautiful. He did get bombed at the parade, though. Yeah, he did a 180. I don't want to be here.
Starting point is 00:30:25 I want to go home. He's like, I will stay. This is good. It takes a lot of beers to that fellow, I think. I would think. What are the measurements on that cat? He's seven feet, 300 pounds. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:34 And I would think you just being, he seems, just like a guy. Yeah. Kind of like, remember Andre the giant? Yeah. He'd drink like 24 beer at lunch. The beer would be like, you could hide it in his pan. He just kind of feels Andreish and that he could have a case of red wine tonight.
Starting point is 00:30:51 I had 41 Coors like. That's right. I couldn't be happier. I don't know what to tell you. It's very impressive. I get excited. More NBA news. Michael Jordan gets rich and Michael Jordan gets rich.
Starting point is 00:31:04 Yay! Do you know, you remember the flu game? Was that against Utah? I feel like it was a NBA final. He was not feeling good. Maybe it was Portland. He hung a huge number. They go on to win another world championship that, you know, he won a few.
Starting point is 00:31:19 His shoes sold for 1.38 million U.S. His bleeping shoes covered in sick Jordan sweat. The hell's going on here, collectors. Yeah. You know the kinds of things you can buy for $1.4 million that don't smell like Michael Jordan's wet feet? I feel like if you're dropping 1.4 on a. pair of shoes. Probably got some disposable. You probably can do it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:41 So rounding error may as well get these shoes. Didn't realize there's a market for that. Okay. At least not at that price point. The other thing is apparently he's Hornets, Bobcats, Bob Horns. Right. Yeah, the Bob horns. He's selling for an incredibly large number. You were saying he had a stake worth around 300 million that he just sold for $3 billion. Yeah, he got the whole team just a piece. $275 million and was what was the $3 billion?
Starting point is 00:32:04 Sure. Yeah. I just like seeing people find. finally break through, you know? Yeah. Finally catch a break. Nice to see a little guys. Yeah. Now he can tell his kids, you know what?
Starting point is 00:32:14 We're going to be okay. You can go to college, son. Yeah. We're all going to, everything's going to be okay, guys. Daddy did good today. We're going to have Christmas presents under the tree this year. Yeah. Might even have a real tree.
Starting point is 00:32:27 Okay. Good for him. We can get that cake for your birthday party, sweetheart. Calgary St. Peters were in action last night in Udawa, and this is just great. I don't know if you saw the game. This was an early touch. in the game, the stamps, you know how they saw the wood, the red blacks, lumberjacks in Ottawa. They came up and brought out the old, what are the people?
Starting point is 00:32:48 The Mime Huscavarnas after the touchdown. Excellent celebration. Bit of a route. Boys looked a lot better than they did in week one. And that's good to see, especially with Cadeem Kerry being placed on the U.S. Gamer, a nice day from the run game despite his absence. You didn't watch any. Okay, we'll move along.
Starting point is 00:33:07 I heard this on you. This is staying with football to the four-down variety. Wake jack up because we're talking NFL. It's the Kansas City Chiefs. And how many rings did you say they had on the 100? Yeah, a lot of diamonds on the ring, I should say, not rings on the diamond. But it's fancy. Holy shys up.
Starting point is 00:33:28 Look at all those diamonds. It's not around anymore. Ice gone. Yeah. This is the Pender Party usually feeds out. Better not to fake entirely. A lot of diamonds. And everything has to have me.
Starting point is 00:33:42 There's 74 diamonds in this because we had 74 bottles of Pellegrino at lunch that day. 48 red rubies indicate the 48 touchdowns Mahomesrow. It's also the neck size and inches of the entire O-Lond. It's always popping off of these things. Stadium there. Yeah, so good. Hey, happy for them. do we get rings for anything in our could we ever escalate to something so successful we got rings made no i think we're a lost cause there's those ones that have like the lollipop at the end the ring pop that's as good as we get i think in our lives a home's a few more probably yeah we'll keep moving uh erin rogers apparently apparently nearly a patriot veto to trade to the pats uh quote when erans rogers heard it his agents said no we ain't
Starting point is 00:34:35 playing for New England, we want to be a jet. You ever said, we want to be a jet? Not that jet. Maybe a different time. That's right. Thank you. You're going to be instantly compared to Brady more than I get it. They probably had a good rivalry with them too.
Starting point is 00:34:53 No, no, no, screw those guys. And New York's New York. New York is New York. In fairness to Foxborough. They got an interesting little receiving court too, that Garrett Wilson, a monster rookie year. Breece Hall running back should be healthy again. All right. Let's go.
Starting point is 00:35:08 Want to get you up to speed on golf. The U.S. Open is at L.A. Country Club. If you are a golf fan, this is primetime golf. Normally it's like done when you're home from work in this part of the world. We will have golf late into the night on TV for the enthusiasts out there. A very good day for two men, Zander Schofley, and Ricky Fowler, both carting record eight under pars at a U.S. Open. 62.
Starting point is 00:35:32 The U.S. opens where you're supposed to like bleed, surrender and die on the course it's so hard. And pros look like amateurs and shoot 90. 62. Fancy. Court Conner's even par. Adam Hadwin even par. Top Canadian McKenzie Hughes at three under.
Starting point is 00:35:48 And Dustin Johnson today, a little snowman. That's eight on a par four. Quad, triple bogey. I can do that. Yeah, like it's nothing else in his life I can do. But I can shoot eight on a whole. I was going to say there are some things that he's got going for. him.
Starting point is 00:36:04 Yeah. It's going to be tough for you to replicate. Absolutely. And not suggesting, but the eight on a par four, I've done many times. You love people's struggles. He's going to be okay. He took that hundreds of millions of dollars before they're going to be okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:19 Kids, we're going to be okay. We can go to Disneyland and we can't afford the fast pass. Yeah. Good. Okay. Locally, Goncoevitational is on. Some of the top amateurs in the country on the men's and women's side are in Calgary at the Glenco golf course playing the forest.
Starting point is 00:36:36 Top three amateur tournament in the entire country. You can check that out. It's a 54 whole event that got started yesterday. So it'll wrap up tomorrow. And there's also a pro-women's segment of the event as well, which has a, I believe, a $60,000 purse. Oh, very good. So great.
Starting point is 00:36:52 Very good, Dean. We know who you loved. Calvary Surgeon Action tonight. Top team in the West. Top team in the east. Montreal. We don't like your accent just kidding it's just it's just ball that's uh rugsy on the right there dino you're gonna love him uh 7 o'clock tip off at winsport they also play sunday as well father's day game you want to take us too late it's just father's day game come on sold out got to be ready for that who knew and it's indigenous heritage night as well tonight against we'll move forward couple items to close things out uh we talked golf but we also didn't mention how high kicks get involved in golf would you like to wager a guess High kicks in golf. You were golfing yesterday.
Starting point is 00:37:38 That's up. Yeah. One for Dean. Ding. Got it. Sensational day. Four out of four kicks will return. Loved it.
Starting point is 00:37:47 Heard it was smoky here. That's a shame. You're happy with that, uh, with that elevation. That's decent. And you know what it really is? Is you've got to have a really sharp cameraman to time it at the top because you know if that's coming up or going down, but that's a nice bit of hurt there from the foot. Now, do you feel like he, that was at the apex?
Starting point is 00:38:03 Are you happy with that? It was very close. It's above the head, which is always good. Sometimes I think I can get it to the height of the finger there, but that's almost perfect pitch. Happy with it. Thin air, right? It's easier.
Starting point is 00:38:14 It is. Altitude, a little easier. There's other things that help loosen you up, limbery up as well, which is great. Love it. Finally, you're a pilot, right, Dean? Yep. You have a pilot light in your home, but that's what it's close. You know what, not for helicopters, just.
Starting point is 00:38:28 Oh, just playing. So was this you in Ecuador that unfortunately had the bird crash into talk about an instant. I do put the bird in the air. I do enjoy that. Okay, so there's, we're flying the plane. Oh, my God. Through the windshield.
Starting point is 00:38:44 Oh, he's going to blow all over. Yeah. Oh, dear. Do we know what kind of foul that is? Not a small one, Dean. Enough to break through a window and bleed all over the cockpit. Well, there's dinner. Oof.
Starting point is 00:38:58 Oh, my God. Some good eating right there. Oh, my God. What is it? Those chicken feed? Is that an ostrich? I didn't think they could fly. That's a huge bird.
Starting point is 00:39:10 Oh, he's got... Oh, fuck. That's right. Are Albatross still out there? Is that a condor? That is a massive bird. Yeah, I saw that yesterday. I didn't really understand what was going on.
Starting point is 00:39:21 As soon as I saw a dude with all that shit in his face, I don't need to watch that. Nice combination of bird blood and feathers. Yeah. It's a goosh. Yeah, it's goosh. That's your Pinda Report. For Friday.
Starting point is 00:39:33 you buy Village Honda, they continue to buy used vehicles. If you have a vehicle that is used in variety, they're paying top dollar. They'll put it on their lot. They will sell it. You get cash. It works for everybody. It's only at Village Honda, online VillageHonda.com, your dealership for life at the Northwest Auto Mall. Tricky now with dummy having left the show. Well, he's being
Starting point is 00:39:57 interrogated at the border. It's not its fault. Except that it's all his fault. Such a blockhead. Is he a guest on this show or is he part of the show? Like I can never tell. What day is it? Yeah, I don't know. I don't. What does that have to do with anything?
Starting point is 00:40:13 That's what I mean. He just picks his spots. Today you want to be a guest. He was a guest. Oh, for Christ sakes. I just have to be done. Yeah. Do you want Mark on?
Starting point is 00:40:22 You can mark a mic. Where's this phone number? This fucking dummy. Are you going to call him? Yeah. Okay. There's one thing we like doing. It's calling people live on the air without giving them notice.
Starting point is 00:40:37 No, it's good. I love it. Because we have so much prep on this show to again. It's a call back to the Olympics. I don't remember that. It's a call control. He always does that. Don't soar.
Starting point is 00:40:52 Don't soar. I do swear. How long have you been doing that? You have reached. Yeah. Brett. After leaving a message, you can hang up or press pound for more options. Hey, shithead.
Starting point is 00:41:05 Call me back. You just left, you just leave the show? How am I supposed to do Warner's weekend meet forecast for Bon Ton when you're not on. Dick. I just have to be done. I can't go anymore today. All right.
Starting point is 00:41:24 Let's do, uh, you know what? We can still do it. I mean, he's a Buffalo anyway. What the hell? You know what Buffalo's barbecue report? I could pull a Buffalo on the weather. Get off his dick. All right.
Starting point is 00:41:36 Jesus. Yeah, that's what I've been known for this week. Jesus. Hey, you know what? He's in Buffalo. Just let him. Oh, hey. Oh, shucks.
Starting point is 00:41:45 I, uh, I try to not be surprised by expected behavior. I guess. Let's do for McLeod Law this day in Flames history. Now you'd be saying like, were they playing on this day? You're talking about it's like in June. June. Two things. Neither of them great.
Starting point is 00:42:06 Is this a Travis Hamanick trade or whatever you've got happening here? It's almost the draft. It's mid June. We've got some swaps coming up. Shush! McLeod Law. Peter Klein. McLeod Law, you know him as the personal injury guy. But did you know he's also the go-to guy in Calgary for your disability insurance claim? If that disability or insurance company is given the old runaround, sick Peter Klein on him.
Starting point is 00:42:31 That's what you do. Contact Peter. He will get you the disability benefits that you paid for and deserve and thus getting back your peace of mind, the peace of mind that you've earned over the years. Peter Klein and his staff at McLeod, the very best. There you see him. There's the phone number. 403254, 3864.
Starting point is 00:42:52 McLeoddashlaw.com is the website. Which one are we going to do here first? Instead there's two of the both as good news, bad news, bad news, good news? Bad news, bad news? Oddly, it's right, it's all kind of around the same time. The Calgary Flames on this date, they had decided that Joe Mullen was maybe post-Apex. pre-wise broad but post apex he went from 110 points the year prior to 78 points or sorry 69 points a 41 point drop in production it's Hubertow ask so they decided you know what let's ship this guy out Pittsburgh's going to give us a second round pick for Joe Mullen who we they said all right let's let's do that the flame selected Nicholas Perrault I believe his name is.
Starting point is 00:43:48 You don't need to search them. There's nothing to search. You could search you and come up with better results. Played for the farm team for one season, and then it was East Coast League, and then it was, I guess I'm not a very good hockey player and quit. And he wasn't, and he was right to do so. As for Mr. Mullen, he went to Pittsburgh.
Starting point is 00:44:08 Turns out he had a bad back. Oh, so the perniated disc. It was affecting his play. Got it done, returned in. in round two of the post season, scored in his first game for the Pittsburgh Penguins, scored eight goals en route to lifting the Stanley Cup. He did that a few times.
Starting point is 00:44:25 He was good at that. The next year of back's not hurting anymore. 42 goals. Right back where, yeah. And then what did he do at the end of that season as well? Yeah. Joe Mullen, two Stanley Cups, a thousand sixty-sixty-two games,
Starting point is 00:44:41 502 goals, 1063 points, hockey Hall of Fame. Well, three cups because he would count me, Right. That's, yeah, two with the Pittsburgh back to back, 91.92. As Jack vividly remembers, not yet being born,
Starting point is 00:44:53 but a massive Pittsburgh sports fan. Right. Right. Great times. Ooh, that's bad. Mm-hmm. Not a great deal. 1990 draft.
Starting point is 00:45:07 It's early for the draft, isn't it? Fewer teams. Yeah, so the cup would be done sooner. Maybe the schedule is a little different back then. Flames own the 20th pick in that they won the Smyth that year. Oh, no. Because you know who won in 90. Yeah, those guys.
Starting point is 00:45:26 80 games at 42 wins, 99 points, win the Smyth, top team in the West, lost to L.A. in round one. Gretzky and the Kings beat them in six games. So no playoff success and not a high pick at 20. So Cliff Fletcher is, I wonder if there's a way we can crawl up the draft board here. Mike Vernon's 26. He's already one of a cup.
Starting point is 00:45:52 It's just, you know, he's not done, but you'd get the ascension plan going. As it happens, one of the top, well, the CHL goalie of the year, playing with the Brandon Wheat Kings, Trevor Kidd. Yeah. Available, but is he going to be there at 20? Might have to trade up, Dean. How many teams are going to be looking for? a goal, you have no idea. So the names start coming off the Bork. Owen Nolan, Peter
Starting point is 00:46:17 Nedved, Keith Primo, Mike Ritchie, Jarmer Yager, Sizzins, and Daryl Siddhar, and John Slaney, Drake Barrowehouse. Are you reading this or is this by memory? No, I'm reading this. Thank you. Oh my God. Um, they get to pick number 11 and Cliff's getting Lance. He's like, geez. New Jersey might take a goalie. I, I don't know. Hey, Lou, Lamarillo, Mr. Lamarillo, Mr. Can we, how, how tight are you with this pick we'd like to pick? All right. Well, what do you? We'll give you our first and two seconds for this pick and throw me your, one of your,
Starting point is 00:46:56 your late second, whatever you got there. Sure. That's, that sounds good. We got a deal. Put her there, son. Flame select, Trevor Kid. Goaltender Brandon Weekings. All right.
Starting point is 00:47:08 Western Lager, do you know? Hey. Um, so Trevor. won the Memorial Cup with Spokane, was Delta Spokane, wins the cup that had been with the Pat Falloon, Ray Whitney Group, I believe in Spokane. One silver at the Olympics in Albertville France for Team Canada, would go on to play 178 regular season games for the Flames.
Starting point is 00:47:32 It's not nothing. Three playoff wins, traded to Carolina at the age of 25. There were other goalies taken. Felix Potvin was a guy. He was the number two ranked goalie after Trevor Kidd. Had a very good start, very good season. But as people probably remember...
Starting point is 00:47:52 Well, Jersey needed a goalie, right? Well, they moved down to the 20 spot. And Trevor Kidd has gone. Selected Martin Broder. A little more notoriety than Nick Perot. Where there again, it was, well, if you were going to take a French goalie, you'd have probably taken Felix Potvin.
Starting point is 00:48:10 Now, we feel pretty good about this player. Pretty good about this player. Marty. 1259 games, 113 playoff wins, three Stanley Cups, hockey Hall of Fame, maybe the greatest goaltender to ever play in the National Hockey League. Certainly in the conversation. That stings when you trade up to get the lesser of the... Trade it up. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:35 It's a scarcely issue. Yeah, that is bad. So, Broder and Joe Mullen. Other than that, decent day. McLeod Law. At least it's Friday, I guess. McLeod Law. They're going to want to redo this this day in flames history idea.
Starting point is 00:48:57 Well, certain times of year, it's Yeah. Whatever your challenge, business, personal, McLeod Law is there for you. Professionals with a common goal helping clients meet their needs and they are very proud of their Calgary Roots, big part of their longstanding client relationships.
Starting point is 00:49:12 This city, they get it. They know how things work. and have a commitment to making this city the best place it can possibly be good, good folks over at McLeod Law. Thanks for the bummer, boomer. That's coming in. That is one of the, that's maybe one of the biggest, like the thing, the Gretzky trade, not good. They want to cop after. Oh, in Edmonton, yeah. In Edmonton is like, the Gilmore five for five.
Starting point is 00:49:38 When you think of awful trades are just terrible things. Savard for Ruslan Zinulin, one of the worst trades they've made. But there's, this one's a real. competition for sure yeah not the best so uh the the weekend meat forecast there that's a kick in the nuts yeah you're right well wherever in the general genital region it's a sweet it's a solid hoof football to the groin yeah for sure uh so we were going to get red on to talk about you know the guy who's part of the show sometimes he's going to join us as a guest i guess um and he's not even traveling today like what the Oh, he had to get a stick.
Starting point is 00:50:20 He went to Canada to get a stick and then didn't get a stick. How the fuck do they get? They have three kids. How do they get anything done? I thought one of the dead by now. Like, it'd be one of those, you'd be looking down the street and your kid would be walking down the middle of the
Starting point is 00:50:37 boulevard with no clothes on. Hey, is that dark kid? I just wonder, how are they doing it? Yeah, they're still, they're getting meals. They're fed. They're in school. It's, they've beaten the odds. So anyway, it's the weekend forecast for Bonn,
Starting point is 00:50:51 tonne meats because you got to plan your, your meat intake. Yes, you do. The forecast 100% calls for meat, as always. 24 today, 20 on Saturday, rain and 16 on Sunday. So you may not be grilling. You may, it may be, maybe, maybe you're doing some indoor cooking this weekend. Meet sooner. Don't wait for Sunday. Yeah, tonight would, with that,
Starting point is 00:51:13 tonight's probably the night. Then I guess chillier for tomorrow and then the rain starts. So maybe you're going to what are you going to do? You can maybe do a nice pulled pork. Oh. Nice pulled pork on, on Sunday. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:27 Probably pull that off. I just haven't had, what's wrong with steak? Doesn't it's over a couple of things. Not you. Good meat from Greg and just hit the barbecue. Let's go. I understand.
Starting point is 00:51:37 You know, oh, I have an anecdote for you. You don't mind. Someone said I had never been to Bonson and I was under the gun. It was a special night at the house. I made the trek. Potato salad,
Starting point is 00:51:47 beef ribs. Absolute hit. Completely won the day. Hero dad's, status. It's like we've said with Vina Nova. Yeah. If you want a guaranteed, just a double-decker home run, then you go there. It's the same thing with Bontan. You got to impress people. That's how you do it. Bontan meets the very best Consumer Choice Award winner they as well. We've just got nothing but winners on this. Now that Rett's not here. We got nothing but winners on the show.
Starting point is 00:52:15 Oh, wow. What? I didn't see that coming. That is vicious. Well, if he was with us, he wouldn't be right now anymore. He would have. 28 crow foot circle in the northwest Calgary tradition. There you see it since 1921. Whether it's beef, it's AAA Alberta beef,
Starting point is 00:52:30 bird of beef, free range poultry grain fed, Alberta lamb, veal, pork, the best up at Bontan meat market, say hi to our pal Greg. He is the head meathead up there. Head meathead.
Starting point is 00:52:43 He'll take care you. And you know what? It'd be one of those things. Hey, you know, we've watched a barn burner. You let him know. You might throw an extra, you know,
Starting point is 00:52:51 link of sausage or something. an extra $2 surcharge? What do they do if they hear that? No, it's the other way. Okay. I think it's probably worth your while. So do tell them. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:58 So how was your golf yesterday? Where were you? What were you doing? Stewart Creek. I had a late invite from a buddy and I said to you, I think it was on Tuesday. I'm like, I just got invited. Is it okay? Like I feel a little sheepish, but this doesn't come around very often.
Starting point is 00:53:10 It's an incredible track. One of those like, we're lucky to live in this part of the world type golf experiences. And it was looking on it was going to rain all week. And then yesterday arrived and the forecast was friendly. And it was unbelievable. I hadn't played in ages. I was very worried. actually did shockingly well better than anything i've done two three years so i'm quite ecstatic
Starting point is 00:53:28 and ready to be disappointed and crushed because that's golf as soon as you think you're good it's just like the piano from the second story will get you so what were you sheepish about not doing the show to go golf yes well you shouldn't to me it doesn't happen very often what are you doing monday golfing again yep taking not on the show to golf at least there's some sort of a tie-in to a partner with that one i'm just i'm just i'm just I'm just sure. Friday, I'll be in Edmonton golfing. That's true, yes.
Starting point is 00:53:55 It is the season. There is reason to feel sheepish. I've seen the calendar far enough out that I know there's a few of these come. So Red can't do the show because he's driving. I'm on the driving range. And you're on the driving range. Yeah, driving someone nuts on a cart talking his ear off. You know, we're all driving.
Starting point is 00:54:11 Plans are in place. It looks as though, and I don't want to jinxie pants anything, but it looks as though Barnburner is going to be going to the draft. Like it's 98, 99. I think it's basically 100%. We're going to the draft in Nashville. Things are booked. Things are booked.
Starting point is 00:54:25 If you're not there, things are going to flip. But with this dog and pony show, I'm prepared for anything to go sideways at any minute. It is a good reminder that, you know, the probability is incredibly high, but there's still lots of room for us to fuck this up. Yeah. And just write it down. You'll need a passport to get across the border. We have it in good authority that you might need a passport. Now, can I travel with mushrooms or do I acquire them there?
Starting point is 00:54:46 I'd leave them here. Okay, good. Leave them here. Pick them up there. Whatever you got to do. for advice anymore on travel. That's right. So yeah, we're looking forward to that.
Starting point is 00:54:54 I know that the Wolverine has been working behind the seas. We're going to meet some of our partners out there too. This is going to be good. We're going to be at a bar. Well, we're going to be at a lot of bars, yeah. God, almighty. Nothing can go wrong here, right, Dean? End of show.
Starting point is 00:55:09 Have a great weekend, guys. See you Monday. But no, we're looking forward to getting down there. We're actually going to do some actual draft coverage. You're going to have a couple guys. Yeah, next week we're going to record. to like I think what I would like to call like a round one draft primer with a flames focus. So we've got Byron Bader from Hockey prospecting.com coming on.
Starting point is 00:55:27 He's based at Calgary has great work with prospects turning into pros. And then also looking to bring him Joel Henderson from future considerations. Hockey will record that. And then on a travel day, we'll let that drop in the Barnburner slot is you can get amped up because pick 16 is going to be a player. There's a deep draft. You've heard that for years. And you can talk about like franchise altering player at 16 or if you swing
Starting point is 00:55:49 and miss, it can feel like you've set the franchise back a bunch. It could go either way. It's a big draft for the flames. And not only that, they hold their second rounder, and I think they'll try to add more top 60 picks. If you think about the rumors we've heard swirling about Noah Hannafin, or perhaps they need to open up a spot for Dustin Wolf on the big squad. So I wouldn't be surprised if they got more than two picks in the top 60. I'd almost be more surprised if they don't have three or more.
Starting point is 00:56:10 Yeah. And I'm not sure where other fans fall in. I just know for myself between Sutter, Trilliving, Conroy, Huska, all of this. I've spent less time focusing on the prospects as opposed to, well, who's going to be the coach? It's really leaving, really leaving. Well, then what are they going to do? That whole thing is kind of taken my eye anyway. One of the things that I think will be
Starting point is 00:56:31 fascinating is a lot of mock drafts. We've seen defense been taken by the flames. They're really thin in the system on defense. I think Porre is a prospect, but he's got a few elite tools in some other areas that need a lot of work. Whereas you can see like there's a bit of a stable of forwards like Zeri, Pellier, we saw
Starting point is 00:56:47 Deer graduate, maybe Matthew Phillips makes the jump. D is a huge need here. But if it's not one of two guys that's there at 16, you don't want to reach. Because if you're not taking best player available, it can really bite you down the road. I look at the Oilers going Broberg instead of
Starting point is 00:57:03 Cofield, Boldy, and Zegris. And it's like, shit, you could trade those guys for a thousand defensemen. And they have some forwards obviously, but it's not like there's... No, they're not betting your life that Coronado or Zari are going to be the next captain of this team and leading you to...
Starting point is 00:57:19 I guess the point being is there's probably going to be an interesting conversation for the flames at 16 where it's like, man, we could really solve a need here, but maybe are you chasing ceiling? Do you want a sure thing? And to be fair, this is where we learn about Craig Conrad. It's going to be his draft. His first opportunity to really put his fingerprints
Starting point is 00:57:37 on this thing. And I'd love to see him get lots of picks in the top of 60. Great draft class. Yeah. I wonder there, I don't know, the GM gets the ownership of good drafts, I think sometimes. And then when they don't, it's, wow, you got to fire your what's your scouting staff doing?
Starting point is 00:57:54 I'm just thinking, if I'm Craig, are you really going in there to tell your, your scouting staff what your opinions are? Or are you just kind of like always, almost deferring to them? I think you certainly allow them to tell you about skill sets of players,
Starting point is 00:58:11 but you can place a priority on like, we can't miss, we need a high floor here, or like, I don't care if this kid never comes over from Russia, we're going to swing after a high ceiling. Your philosophical approach on how this team's going to play for the next decade, that starts here, where you might be prioritizing size on the back end, or we're going to chase skill at all costs. And to be fair, like Trilvin came in and inherited a scouting staff.
Starting point is 00:58:34 And a few years in, there was a lot of rotation. It was his guys. And I sort of thought that first draft class looked like a draft that Brian Burke ran. And then you saw a lot more bets on smaller skilled forwards that played panned out really well. And it was clear that that had changed because they weren't draft. grafting guys the size of vending machines in the second and third round like they did prior. I think you lean on your scouts, but you certainly dictate the philosophy of how this team's going to play. And you'll draft based on that.
Starting point is 00:59:01 So that's in two weeks time. It's coming up quick, man. Yeah. We will be done in two weeks. We'll be flying home. It'll be round seven done last night. And we're hung over. That is shitty layover in Atlanta on the way home.
Starting point is 00:59:12 We'll look forward to then. And then free agency right around that corner, hard to see. the flames involved if nothing happens trade-wise. I just think the first Donald has to fall as a trade anyway. They're over the cap. First thing we need is what the heck is the cap. They still haven't affirmed up that number. And that's not fair to GMs to try to operate business, not knowing that.
Starting point is 00:59:32 So that will be solidified before we arrive at the draft. And based on that, the flames hold a lot of chips in the D market. We showed the top available UFA defensemen. There are numerous flames that would fit at the top end of that group. And if someone's trying to get ahead of free agency or say, I don't want to win a bidding war, I like this guy's contract. Maybe the flames do arrive at Frasie with cap space, but there's so many dominoes to fall before July 1.
Starting point is 00:59:55 It's tough to say. At this point, it clearly doesn't look like they don't look at Cap to spend. How could they do it? But if you move out of Noah Hanavan, now you've got some cap space. So that is what's happening over the next couple of weeks. As it's a busy time for everybody, this show included,
Starting point is 01:00:10 looking forward to getting to Nashville. And I don't know how or what it's going to look like, but it'll be something. It's going to look like, yeah. I mean, have you ever tried looking through the bottom of a shot glass? I think I still have photographic evidence from your last visit to Nashville. The lobby staff haven't forgotten. I'll have to check my phone, you know, how it is.
Starting point is 01:00:36 Sometimes you lose stuff. It's like, I can't believe I lost that. Yeah, that would be a shame, wouldn't it? Yeah. Have a great weekend, everybody. Hey, Mark, thanks for your donation, buddy. Appreciate it, Mark, one, and again, money well spent. What a treat this has been.
Starting point is 01:00:49 Yeah. The barn burner experience. Yeah, that's what you got. Maybe we buy them a meal and call it even. I feel like there's more. Yeah, we'll maybe have a drink or two a little bit later. But thanks to Mark for his donation. Went straight to the people at Closer to Home and their Christmas campaign and our Christmas campaign.
Starting point is 01:01:08 So that is awesome. Have a fine weekend. Everybody. Rhett says goodbye. That's the day. We saw, oh shit. Yeah, the bets of the day. I see him on the screen.
Starting point is 01:01:15 I can't let you do that. I got some good ones cooking too. I'm not letting you go off the hook here. let's do that. Betway, get the Betway app on your phone. Bet the responsible way with Betway. Betway, so it's my way. There you go.
Starting point is 01:01:26 It should be your way. Anyway, a couple of baseballs for baseball bets for you today. Baseball. Look at this. One of the great rivalries in baseball. It's happening right now. Yankees Red Sox. They are at Fenway and Tanner Hauk going for the Red Sox,
Starting point is 01:01:43 but it's the cheater. Domingo Hermann. Yes. The stickiest hand I've, ever felt. Yeah. Insert joke here. So the Yankees are getting plus money with the cheater on the mound.
Starting point is 01:01:53 I'm taking a plus one hondo. That's right. And then the raise at San Diego, Shane McClanahan going for the raise. Only 10 and one this year with a 2.18. Jeez. Settle down. So I don't mind the minus 110. Podres have been incredibly disappointing.
Starting point is 01:02:11 The dads spent all this money. They're supposed to be good. I believe it's Udarvish going for the pond raise. But I'll sprinkle a little there. minus 110 on the race. So you got the J and the cheater and you've got McClain. That's right. Okay, got it.
Starting point is 01:02:24 One guy's good. One guy has to cheat to be just average. Yeah, it could be a bullpen day if he gets caught with a sticky hand early again. Texas hosting Toronto, the range has been a surprise story this season. Remember, Marcus Simeon, excuse me, that came over from Toronto and free agency. Seeger as well, they had like a half billion dollars spent on that middle infield. It's actually turned around pretty quickly for them. I'm going to take the under on eight and a half only because Gosman's going and he's been so sensational for the Jays this year.
Starting point is 01:02:48 we hit an over 10 and over eight strikeouts a couple starts ago and he was just okay his last start that's the outlier these days he has been almost unhittable and certainly at this juncture one of the guys you'd expect to be a si young finalist he's been that good so i'll take the under eight and half that's plus money at plus 105 and Vlad guerrero one and a half total basis he hits one double he's there a couple singles anything more it's over no walks included in that total but over one and a half is nearly even money at minus 106 he's been just okay ready for him to turn the corner. Jays and Rangers, nice throwback rivalry. We'll see how it is in that new park.
Starting point is 01:03:23 Are these the dog days of summer yet? Or does, when does, when does, when does, when do the dog days hit? Well, for us or for sports fans or baseball? I feel like you're probably in that neighborhood. You're still a month from the trade deadline plus. Teams have needs, but it's too early to make a trade. I think the Blue Jays are wrapping up a 28 game and 31 day stretch. That's, that's a lot. It's dog days. So many games. And then it's, It's Texas in late June, so I'm sure it'll be like really balmy and comfortable out there, right? The Betway app on your phone, play along with Betway.
Starting point is 01:03:57 Very happy to have Betway as our betting partner here with Barnburner, this program. And they too must be so proud. Wait till they see us in Nashville. Just so. That's right. Who's the Sasquatch? Which show is this? Why is this guy humping my leg?
Starting point is 01:04:13 I don't know. I'm not sure what's happening. Thanks, everybody. Have yourself a fine weekend. we're back next week. Well, actually, I'll be back next week. I'll see you Monday. Can't speak for Rett.
Starting point is 01:04:22 Or are you? Well, you know, someone's got to do this company golf tournament thing for the, pull the rope for the team. You're welcome. Talk to you Tuesday. See you Monday, buddies.
