Backland's retired, Farabee's been moved, Frost is traded, Strom's only here for a year. These are all placeholders. It's true. The D-Corps is going to be here for a while.

The goal is potentially a while. This forward group, you're waiting for someone to look like a top liner in this league. They have zero of those players today. Who could you put in on the top line of the abs or the Oilers or name a contender that's on this roster? Nobody. And everyone else looks like a third liner. Like who's flirting with a point per game? game on this team.

And that entered this era where they really haven't had a chance, aside from 04 and maybe 22 if you bought the hype. It was poor decision making by ownership. Horrible, guys, which is fine. That's their decision to, make. I would counter that argument with poor drafting. Oh, the 90s were off. They drafted really wrong in the 80s. And then as you had the exodus of the Roberts and Newendikes and McKinness's, et cetera, you also had changes in the GM chair and it wasn't Cliff Fletcher picking

stars. It was like Rico Fata at six. Danny could chuck at five, like swinging and missing in the top 10, like stuff that just crushes how a team can be good. It's life cycle. conversation for a different day, just because I was thinking about on the way to work. Okay, we're going to have a, this is probably going to be a season that will have more losses than victories. This could be a, people will wrap their arms around the saddle dome,

and there will be nostalgia and there will be some younger players, but this is going, we know what this year is likely going to be. If you go back, because I was just thinking about when the last kind of youth movement, expunging of the roster happened, were there lessons to be learned there that you can apply here? Has the game and the salary cap?

Has everything changed so much that there's very little to pull? Because you got away from the Yokanans and all those guys. And then Sam Bennett has won cups and a consmite. Matthew Kachuk has won a Stanley Cup. We know God bless Johnny Goddrault, but he was a superstar. Monaghan, Rasmus Anderson. there are a number of players who are in and around that time. Yeah.

Who did play well for the flames and either still or are impactful players on their new respective teams. So now as you look at Carols and Reshny and Perrach and Nemech and that, okay, we're entering something kind of similar. Sure. What did you do last time that you can avoid this time or can you, is there anything to be applied? I think maybe they could have been a little more patient

rather than blow their brains out in free agency and the Browers. I would say the biggest mistakes. James Neals. Because here's the thing. It was, oh, look at this. We hit in the fourth round of Johnny Godreau's a star three years later. Holy crap.

Sean Mahatman and Maddochuk played right out of the draft class. Bennett might be our one C. Like everything happened so quick. They immediately started spending in free agency. And most of those bets were bad bets. There's not a lot of like you look back. Sorry, Ryan. If you look back over the last 22, whatever it is years since that run.

Okay, so you have that run and what does Darrell be mad at me, but what's Darrell do afterwards? You got the lockout. Got older. We got older. And more expensive. Yeah. It was opposite of what you should be doing. Same thing with the Brower and the Niel.

And I feel like this organization, when they have been close, there's been pressure to spend.

You talk about things where it's like change the way of thinking. Don't do what always has been just the way it's done. You get a team with young players and then what do you need to do? You got to get some older guys. Insulate them and help them out and help the leadership and that sort of thing. And I guess obviously sometimes it does work. But it sure feels like a lot of times it doesn't work because then you've got young guys and old guys. It's like, boy, there's this big gap here.

It doesn't really seem to be working for anybody very well. So, yeah, that would be the one thing. If I was a GM, I would go kids, kids, kids, kids, kids, and more kids. I want kids that love being at the ring together. They don't have any, I'm sorry, have kids. If you're married and you have children, it's a wonderful thing. I want guys that don't have kids. I don't want guys on retirement contracts.

I don't want guys building houses. I want guys hanging out together and playing hockey. Let's go. I agree. And the kids, the, the talent that the youth have today, get the out of here. There's some sabbiness that comes from being a veteran, but let these kids go. What was your peak age? Like the best you ever felt as a hockey player, the way you were playing physically, moving around, confidence.

Like what, what age were you the best NHL? Yeah, 24 to 29. Yeah. And that's, for like, dynamic point. it seems to be even earlier. Like you look at Macklinsell. Wow, I was not dynamic. No, and then that's nice.

The other thing is, you know, you can't use me as a comparison because we went to the finals in Florida. Well, we, we clutched our way to a stand like a final. Like we literally, that is not a model you want to. You cannot do anymore. 04, even that team.

It was a, like it was won nothing against Detroit in game six. Like, what? Yeah. One, because everyone's water skiing off guys in the neutral zone. Yeah.
