How are we doing, man? How are we, how are we doing today?
All of us back together again. Feels good. It's been a few days.
It's been since Wednesday since we had a normal show, to be honest.
We traveled Thursday. Boom and I were poolside Friday as Red traveled.
Boom was basking in the sports book Sunday, Monday, traveling.
We're back.
Yeah. Yeah. Here we are.
Busy week.
It is a, you know, it's a busy time.
Times are busy. Yeah. It sucks to have missed all the really cold temperatures.
here though. Yeah, that's a shame. Yeah. I'm curious about it actually, Dean, if you don't mind me
jumping in. Would it change your existence at all if it was minus 40? Like, he did have to transfer
from the airport to his house. So there is that 10 steps between the airport and taxi and then, you know,
what I do. What tends to happen is when it's called. I really hunker down, you know, that's an
stay inside. Yeah. Really kind of limit my activity.
Boy, it's been a cold decade here.
Yeah, the outdoor, the outdoor runs and stuff.
Man about town stuff, just, yeah, sorry, can't do it.
Yeah.
Now, here we, mood and spirits are high.
We're happy to see each other.
Hey, we're going to pull the rug right out from under you people.
What?
If you're watching live, if whatever, we've got some terrible news here this morning as we
get into the show.
No, we're not canceled yet.
Oh, no.
Thank God for the internet.
No, well, you had the update just moments ago regarding the Calgary Flames.
Dustin Wolf has been recalled.
Jacob March from his day to day with a lower body injury.
He left practice yesterday before the end.
They called it maintenance.
It appears to be more than maintenance.
Maintaining an injury.
Hopefully a short-term one.
I'm trying to remember which game it was when I believe,
I'll have to go back.
Ottawa? Tweaky, tweaky?
Yeah, because remember when Millen was talking about it,
he kind of fell, he was going backwards and kind of turn it.
It looked like he maybe tweaked a little.
I mean, we're really kind of looking for something now.
Yeah.
Well, day of days, all that really matters.
I mean, when it occurred or how much he played through it,
I suppose is a talking point, but the fact that it's not week to week or longer is,
okay, you got a six game homestand, you got the All-Star break.
You hope you see Jacob before all that.
I would caution, though, that it just happened today.
Am I correct?
Or yesterday?
Yes, skate yesterday, I believe.
Has he been even properly examined?
So he was at practice?
He was at practice left.
Left.
And then they're like, oh, no, he left early for maintenance.
But clearly it was more than that.
And I'm not saying there were a bunch of liars or anything.
It may have looked like one thing.
And they're like, oh, shoot, there's more here than we thought.
I don't think there's any evil here.
That's what I'm getting at.
Yeah. It's good that it's day to day. It's much better than month to month.
That's what I've been told.
Until it changes from day to day.
But you know how those things come about is they start in days.
Is that right?
And days turn into weeks.
See, I thought if you like broke a leg, it would start at months.
And you would work the week and your days away and then you play.
But until you're on the old x-ray table, it's like, ooh, that bone's sticking out.
That looks like you might be day to day.
So if Jacob has a bone sticking out, it could get worse as well.
what I'm hearing.
This is some of the,
your leg is not supposed to
turn like that.
Heavy on medical information.
Yeah,
we're going to have to keep you out a couple days at least to see,
uh,
see what's happened.
Let the swelling go down.
No,
that's crappy for him because he's been playing some of the finest hockey we've seen.
I know you guys were talking about it.
It's,
we're still in that.
What are you,
what are you rooting for?
Are you?
Yeah.
Because you're still,
you're still some teams ahead of you.
If you're looking at the wild card race and now you've played well enough that you've
kind of dissent yourself from the,
Anyway, we should have known better, I guess, in the end.
It's very flamesy.
They're kind of right there.
Nothing comes easy.
Okay.
So who's playing?
Like, are you more excited?
Again, we're back to that situation.
Are you going to see Wolf or Vladar?
I would suggest we might see more of Wolf for the amount of time that Markstrom's gone.
But I think it's Vladar tonight just for the quick change of scenery.
It's been a while since we saw Vladar started.
if I'm correct. So I think it's Vladdy here, but I don't know it's going to be tough to
play him at this point. He's on a tough go. It is a tough goal. Six, five and two record wise.
Which isn't bad. Goals against more than half the games. Yeah. It's a 3.42 and an 883 save
percentage. That's a hoof right there, Dino. It's a hoof and a goosh, whichever, I mean,
take your pick. Yeah. I was thinking about it just this morning when you go, you know, shit kind of going
through your head.
You're thinking about it.
It's like, this should just be about the time.
It was a couple weeks ago.
Remember when we're going to trade Vlodar?
You've got to give Vlodar a run.
They've got to get Vlodar in there and let him go for a little bit.
And then Markstrom starts playing so well.
It's like, this Markstrom's great.
You don't even think about Vlodar for two weeks.
And then it's like, well, Markstrom's been playing a lot of hockey.
He's about just about time to give him a bit of a rest.
So this is not the way you want to give him a rest.
It is funny.
The Flames Nation's morning.
Someone had written an article that was like,
How should the flames utilize our goalies on the six-game homestand?
And I'm sure part of that was they probably should ease out on Marky,
as good as he's going and get Dan Bladar in there.
Well, here we are.
Yeah.
Because like you said, in there as well, you include the All-Star Break.
Yeah.
You can kind of, there's, you can manipulate things a little bit, but it's a metro.
This is not how we wanted to start the show or the homestand here.
It could be.
It's just an opportunity for someone else to show how good they are.
They're 10 days,
between games when they get to the end of this homestand
starting up after the All-Star break, which is rammed with their
CBA seven-day break or whatever.
There's a big stretch there.
We'll see.
Yeah.
He's really good.
Markstrom has been really good.
Like get some Vesna votes good.
Not like when it necessarily, but.
And, Rhett, you hate, we know you hate Jacob Markstrom.
And even for you,
you've been impressed.
Yeah, no, I've never hated Jacob Baxter.
I hate that he's helping the team have success.
That's right.
And they're wasting a Vesna.
You can't have guys trying to win games.
I mean,
what kind of culture are you building here?
What are we doing?
What are we doing, fellas?
Come on.
Yeah.
Listen, I love any goaltender that's good because it makes a D-Men money.
And it's a good thing.
Yeah, rats, that's, uh,
we talk about it all the time.
If there's anyone,
There are life preservers.
There's nothing quite like a goalie in this sport.
It will save you and bring you things you have no business getting.
And if there's anyone who can speak from experience, you would be one of those guys, retro.
Yep, I lived it.
You sure did.
Three great ones.
Front row seat to all of it, for sure.
And I made sure they had to earn it.
I wasn't going to let it just float through a game.
Yeah, that's right.
How much money did you cost Roman Ture when you threw Mike Greer into him?
Yeah, well, he already signed.
I mean, you had to save the franchise.
I get it.
He already had his big deal.
He got paid his dogs.
He was being overpaid already.
Now, because now Van Biesbrook, he won a Vesna, but I believe he was a ranger at the time.
That was very early in his career.
You didn't win a Vesna with the Panthers?
He just played really well.
He came over an expansion, didn't he?
Because they had Richter and Van Bysbroke.
Is that right?
They had both.
Was it expansion?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Awful mask.
Really?
That mask was a car.
It's an era.
For an era, though.
Like, if you go and look at the housing decor
of the midnight, it's different too.
You might frown on that as well.
Fashion is a circle, Rhett.
At this point, that mask doesn't look good.
In 10 years, we'll be fawning for more of it.
Oh, yeah.
Like the hotel we stayed at in Scottsdale.
A nice little throwback to the 90s as far as decor was concerned.
Anyway, did we all have fun?
Did we have a good time on the trip?
Yeah.
If you didn't have fun, I'm worried about you.
I gave Ryan Pinder total prop.
for picking the spot and setting it up.
I wasn't convinced going in.
You weren't totally convinced.
Yeah.
That's a fun place.
I don't know how long it's going to last, fellas.
The PA, the owners, Gary,
like they can't be loving the revenue there,
but for fans, phenomenal.
It's great for the fans.
And it does make you wonder if this is the preferred alternative,
how much money were they losing in Glendale?
Like, how bad?
Yeah, I don't think it's preferred.
What are their options that they have?
They basically got evicted for not.
No, I just mean.
As can, whether you stay in, yeah, stay in Glendale or go there.
But you're right.
How it's millions a day.
It's got to be that they're losing with this, with this team in that rink.
People, oh, it's like Max Bell.
Yeah.
Yeah.
A new Max Bell.
It's very Max Bellish.
If you've been there, then you know what we're looking at here.
But if you don't give a crap about how much money the owners of Gary's losing,
fill your boots.
It's a hell of a good time.
It is all that.
That is absolutely.
correct. And, you know, it's one of those things where the time is really ticking. If they can get an arena deal done for North Scottsdale, they'll stay in Mollett for a while. If that thing starts to stall and they can't get the land or something gets shot down, like they're really running out of time. They're just going to move this team to Salt Lake or Atlanta or Houston or something like that. And then they'll just come back in 15 years when there is a proper setup and a not shitty owner there that people want to do business with. You get to that point because the first thing that goes through my head is if they've come this,
and the miles and the losses that they've logged on this thing.
But I guess if you don't get an owner, then you just, at the end of the day, that's it.
I still feel like if they had a rink in the right part of town, totally.
It could work.
The latest proposed one is the best location that I've seen proposed yet.
And I don't know a ton about Phoenix, but talking with Commodore and some people that
we were down there.
Like, it is north of Scottsdale.
It is on a freeway that is not congested all the time.
it would be easy access from Scottsdale
and that's the only thing you want in Phoenix.
That's where all the money is
and that's where you're going to have success
is if you can get people in Scottsdale going to the games.
They put it in spots that's been very difficult
for people in Scottsdale with the Glendale rank.
You can have success if you're near Scottsdale.
That's my thought on the Phoenix area.
Are you, now are you saying that my Commodore is your insider?
This is your...
With many ours.
I've spoke to Commodore.
No, I said, what's this location?
Talk to me.
Phoenix. Like they brought there were some pictures of the site. It's empty desert. I was just like,
where is this? Does this make sense? Like, you know what? This actually makes a ton of sense.
I would go to games. It's probably only 10 to 20 minutes from Scottsdale. This isn't a 40 minute
hike across town to Glendale. He thought it was a great idea. And I'm like, okay, well, he knows more
about Phoenix than anyone else in my Rolodex. He likes it. Location be real good. But now do they have
the worthwhile to get it built? Because finding land is one thing. That's a very small step. A flame's
had land earmarked for decades here, right?
Not a shot against you,
but maybe find some more Scottsdale sources for your
Rolodex.
Yeah, it was working on.
The Commodore is at the top of that, you know, I'm just.
We were working on.
Love you, Mike.
So the, uh, the coyotes, uh, it's a coyote game day here,
uh, with the flames tonight.
They're back.
Put your helmets on.
It feels like they just played each other.
Like just a couple games ago.
It feels like they were just.
taking on. Oh, yes, 6-2 on Thursday.
The flames are on a nice little heater. Now, did they send the dad's home,
or did they convince some of them to hang around?
I bet they convinced them all to stay, but I don't know if they listened.
Fellas, what are you got to do?
I was joking. They should have unveiled the dad's six-game homestand.
Like, let's go, first in league history. Let's go.
Let's go. Two more weeks with the dads.
Already they're being punished. Karma's got them. Marks from her.
Yeah, I hear you.
They, I looked at the, I just kind of got, I went through the game notes this morning.
It just was looking at the schedule and all that.
And at the start of the year and up until not that long ago, I know you guys had Weamer on and he was on in the summers.
Where are the goals going to come from?
It was, yes, that's the number one, one of the main things anyway, if not the number one thing.
Where is this offense going to come from?
And offense has not been an issue.
They've scored three or more in seven of their last eight.
there's been some fours in there, some sixes, a seven.
The last month or so, we haven't talked once about the offense.
It's been, we've talked about the offense, but we're startled at how much of it there is.
What are we seeing right now?
I hear.
muted, uh, muted, buddy.
I said the last month or so, we've seen damn good hockey.
Yeah.
Yeah.
If you've watched the, if you turn the flames on at the start of December,
And paid attention, you're thinking, this team, they're as good as there is out there.
Like, they've beat a lot of really good teams.
They've had a tough schedule.
And aside from that stupid Chicago game, they've played competitive, hard, aggressive hockey.
Like, goaltending has been awesome.
They're scoring goals.
Maybe they're almost due because the goaltending, or pardon me, the goal scoring was so shitty for so long.
But there's not a lot to whine and complain about with the squad right now.
When you look at any team's winning streak, there's usually two ingredients.
Good goaltending and a high shooting percentage.
They're on a PDO heater right now, and that's not like to take anything away from them.
They're scoring at a rate they won't be able to sustain, and they're getting like 930 goaltending,
which they won't be able to sustain.
But they're playing really good hockey.
They're playing with pace.
They're in every single game.
They're just Lady Luxman with them for a bit here.
I was in Vegas for that game, as you guys talked about,
on Saturday.
And yeah, they win it.
And yes, Vegas is without Eichol,
and they were without William Carlson.
And there's some holes in that lineup right now.
But watch the flames move the puck.
They look so much more confident than they have at any point this season.
And don't go too far with it, fellows.
But little no look backhand passes, back to the point,
little things.
They're just, they're feeling it at all.
ends of the ice right now. To watch them in the
offensive zone go to work in Vegas.
I sent Pinder a text. Retro,
we've been there a couple of times. This was my
third time. And
everyone, how's great as the atmosphere in Vegas?
It is great. Saturday,
it was any other NHL rank
because the flames scored early and then they scored
again and they were so much
the better team. It was
a quiet rank for the final 40 minutes.
And that's pretty rare there. Yeah. There was no life.
You've done some work to do that, especially with the flames.
They've struggled there forever.
It's more, I just kind of remarking that the flames haven't played well.
I think that's their second win ever there.
This was, this was convincing.
They have won some convincing games.
I don't give a shit where it is.
They've played good hockey.
And I just, it still leaves you in that confusing, confounded spot of what the hell?
Are we going to do here?
They're too close to abandon.
And now you're kind of talking.
about doing both things, aren't you right?
Well, maybe we resigned this guy, but trade this guy.
Maybe we take the picks from this trade and give you some other eyes.
It's like now you're, you're really trying to serve two masters here.
Yeah.
And the other thing that I noticed, I think it, and we talked about again yesterday, but boom,
you were there watching.
Yes, they're making those plays and they look light.
And by light, I mean, light, they're on the ice.
They're having fun.
Things are loose and enjoyable for that team.
There's no weight on their back.
They're not being dragged down.
They're not stressed out.
They are going to the rink, pumped up to be there,
high-fiving and things are good.
And these are, these, typically January is a very difficult month.
It can be a bit of a drag, you know.
It is cold.
It is miserable.
There's storms all over.
It's that time of year where you still got a ton of games left.
The end isn't really in sight.
You've got to be a professional and show up.
They're into it.
they are loving things right now.
They're loving the room.
They're playing the games and they're having a ton of fun.
And it's hard to describe it because you're just seeing it.
But it does look like a tangible thing almost.
I agree.
I said this to Ryan on Friday and it sounds like you're getting old.
Flames fans of this.
But it does feel like the kids get into the lineup.
They can play well or if they make mistakes,
it doesn't feel like they're getting hammered on.
The veterans are playing.
it feels like in a way there's you're starting to build a foundation of culture of some sort the room everything's kind of here's here's what it can be to play in calgary and to be a flame and that had to change for sure now it helps yes that they've been winning because win a shit it lots of things are fun when you're winning hockey go through a three or four game skid and we'll see just how light they are but i agree with you right that that was just watching them make try to make plays and make
making them and recovering and covering for one another.
I've not seen that.
And you talk about January.
I hadn't thought about it,
but I looked this morning.
The Flames had five wins in December and have five already in January with six games left.
They like,
they like them some 2024.
They're also not going to play for a significant of good chunk as they get into the
All-Star break.
Yeah.
But it's to your point, Ryan,
I think we are kind of seeing
everything's going right.
Yeah.
Yeah, they're not going to win all the close games.
But yeah, it's been a really nice run
where they haven't faced a ton of adversity.
Look, Markstrom's dinged up here.
This might be exactly what derails a hot run.
We'll see.
Yeah.
Because he, as good as they've been,
there have been nights where just okay,
goaltending could have pulled the plug on them.
Even Vladar, if he was in in Vegas, I wonder.
you know what I mean like Vegas did have a push in that second period I thought and Markstrom just didn't let them get back in the game.
Maybe it's third.
I'm trying to remember what there's a mental part of that too.
But you know Markstrom's going in and there's a it does trickle down throughout the rest of the squad not that they're got the hot goalie right?
The hot goalie you trust it.
It's easy.
Vladar goes in not that you're like oh shit he can't stop a puck but it's a different mental makeup.
It can get a little tighter for guys when the back.
up goes in instead of a guy that's
best in the caliber.
Like it does make a difference.
So we'll,
I guess we're going to find out because
day to day for Jacob Markstrom.
Yeah. And the Yotes did not do
a lot of things well on Thursday.
They will be certainly looking to play better.
And I think they bounce back with a big win two nights later.
Yeah. Didn't they thump Minnesota or something like that?
Like this, we'll see a better Arizona club tonight as well.
Um, just for what it's worth, I reached out as soon as we saw the news, uh, sounds like tweet something in practice.
So that's what it was.
It was nothing coming, uh, coming in a little something in practice.
And as you can imagine, they're being very careful.
Yeah.
So get off the ice.
Don't play.
Uh, sounds like over careful might be the, uh, the story here.
So you hope that's the case.
You hope it's nothing major and that they're just going to give him.
And you get rested Markstrom coming in on another heater.
That's right.
And then you go on another heater.
And then you fire up the dads.
Hey, boys.
Let's come on back.
Let's go.
I'm sure we got some road trips here.
We can go on.
Anyway, that's kind of the flame story here on a flames game day, Arizona.
Tonight we have got Afterburner with Pinder and myself.
Yeah, that's right.
You'll band back together.
Let's say, seeing the mullet now just in,
it's just outside of the Mullet arena and the schick and the gimmick that
was the trip.
It's a statement for sure.
Getting some looks at the old hoop-to-do club or whatever.
Yeah, I bet you are.
Yeah.
I bet you would be over there.
Didn't help our curling game last night.
Holy shit.
Oh, no.
When's this end?
I don't know.
I felt like last night was a tipping point.
Why was last night?
Did you've been having...
Oh, just because we had made some headway.
We were playing decently.
And then it's just that's as bad as we've been in a year.
Plus.
Jeez.
Yeah.
Couldn't throw the out.
Yeah.
Hack weight.
Have you lost your hack weight?
We're just four hacks.
That's all it was.
No one could be.
If not for line and wait, we had everything else.
Gotcha.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So now we've got the Jasper Pond Hockey tournament this weekend.
You're obviously keeping it for that.
Yeah.
Any plans beyond the weekend?
You know, Dean, I'm kind of like you guys.
I haven't got to that anything beyond the weekend in my calendar yet.
Don't, don't play it.
day just like marquee.
We're going to be really, really cautious with this.
It might not be his choice, Dean.
I'm guessing at some point somebody's going to step in and take control of the situation.
There's been threats levied already.
It's a nuclear winter over here.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, I hear you.
Ah, you know what?
This weekend, if you want to see it, you can come out to Jasper's.
The Jasper pond hockey tournament.
It is a classic.
We are heading up at the tournament.
be held at the Fairmont, Jasper Park Lodge, games on beautiful Lake Mildred.
Mildred.
Hello, Mildred.
Of course, the flames and the Oilers are playing one another in the National Hockey League on Saturday.
We're going to do the, we'll do the pond hockey, and then come in and take a look at that on the old big screen and have some chuckles and guffaws with the, the Euler boys.
And it's all powered and fueled by booster juice, our buddies at booster juice, download
the new booster rewards app today to start earning berry points for delicious and nutritious
smoothies, drinks and the food that will get you through the day.
For more info on the tournament, go to CHEhockey.com.
I believe it's week of, so it's, it's fall.
The schedule's out, but come watch, cheerleading for us, get your pom-poms.
Booster juice.
I said this, I think you said it last week.
They were a lifesaver more than once, that location inside the Cardell Rec Center.
Yeah.
When the dads show up for early morning practice, my mouth is very hot.
I just feel it's pretty rough fellas.
Oh,
and those,
they'd have like the chicken cassidias in there.
Yeah,
if you could fire that in there as well,
that would be good.
That would be good.
A little booster juice in your life.
Thank you to booster juice.
You're wearing your paraphernalia there retro.
I just put the shirt on just to make sure everybody knows.
It was still a big supporter,
although I did flip out at the end of the half.
I did see in the group chat that the Bill's coach had ruined it in the first half.
The Bill's coach blew it.
And then I was, they were a check on this score because this thing looked over.
Yeah, but they had two and a half minutes, no reason to give Pittsburgh the ball back even to give them a chance to score.
They throw the ball instead of running it.
And they had tons of success running the ball.
It wasn't anyway.
They don't chew up any clock.
And then they F up a kick.
And next thing, you know, it's they're within 14.
and then they get it within seven.
It's all the coaches.
They give Pittsburgh momentum.
Dumb.
Even with that momentum, Jack.
10.
Too many.
Nope.
It's not enough.
He's just a little somber tonight.
Did you think there was a chance, Jack?
Were you getting excited for a while?
When they cut up to seven, I thought maybe.
But I talked to Ryan after the show yesterday.
There we go.
And I said,
the only way they can win this game is
they run the ball, time of possession,
and they can't get into a shootout.
And then I blinked and it was 21-0.
And then they were screwed.
Yeah.
Well, I'm sorry, Jack, you've had a, it's been a roller coaster for you.
It has been.
So do they have a franchise quarterback or a high pick?
Let's not get into these questions.
Which one is no, neither.
Okay, shoot.
It takes some time just to.
That's smart, Jack.
Now is not the time.
He needs a contract.
He's only got a year left.
I don't know.
I have no idea.
There's a lot of questions.
You don't want to be making decisions right now.
It's raw.
What do they call it, that 24-hour cool off window or something like that?
24-hour rule.
24-hour rule.
That's a jack-
At least.
At least.
Yeah, at least that.
I think you got to take it.
Just to be safe.
Okay.
Yeah.
Congrats on your win there, retro.
Thanks.
And a huge shout out to all the fans.
It showed up to shovel and make that game possible.
That's right.
Parts of the stadium were indeed clear.
of snow. It was a disaster.
Oh my God.
As I said to Ryan, but for whatever you do, don't put a roof on your new stadium.
Yeah, we did fun.
We don't do it too. Don't do it. It's like, this happens every year and they're like, oh my goodness, we need you, the public to grab your shovels and help us. We'll pay you out of pocket.
20 bucks and our come down shovel for free. That's what brings a community together. It's not community spirit.
You got the state of New York over a barrel giving you a bill.
million dollars you don't want to put a roof on that thing?
A roof partial roof.
Retractable.
So yeah, if you want to move back or whatever, right?
I'm sure they could find a way to do that.
So, uh, so we're set for now, are we excited for now next weekend?
Oh, baby.
I've just, I've just.
I could have good ones.
I think the.
Go ahead.
Can't get better than what Rett's going to try to get to.
Yeah.
It's expensive right now to go.
I got to wait till last minute to buy.
my tickets are just going to be sitting in the parking lot doesn't sound like a real fan to me no no
this is how you get a deal he's still going he'll be by the big tree with bruce smith just waiting out
the prices the scalpers they're evil early in the week i'd like my kids to stop being sick as well
that would make life a little more manageable did i tell you oh you saw the picture
also ended up in the hospital for stitches this weekend so that it's quite a run so he did
the fellows are on yeah glued it so yeah the boys are really keeping things together
It's nice.
How's the shoveler dealing with all this?
Soar arms and this.
Shoulders are tired from doing all that shoveling yesterday.
Packs all tight.
$1,000 for a ticket right now.
How much?
$1,000.
And you said normally this is around $200 for a regular season?
300.
And it was like $455 yesterday.
Yeah.
No.
It can't be $1,000 to catch you in the stadium.
No, no.
It's his seats.
You need above row 7.
It's 1,000.
under the heaters and the red heaters under the heaters and covered so in case you get some weather it's not landing on you
the shovel and i like to go i take the shoveler to the game she wants to be take care of her yeah of course
she shovel she gets all the good things in life yeah she'll be flush after all that shoveling last few days
yeah yeah i'd get her to buy these ones she should yeah 20 bucks an hour that's good dough uh you would uh
just looking over your shoulder there you had said some we're getting some more
Origin love. We've been saying with Origin Brewing, if you've got the Barnburner blonde,
you send us your photos, you send us your media. Maybe it's a video, maybe it's a photo.
We will put you on the show. And time for another thing. We're back into it this week. Some people
enjoying some origin and some barn burner blonde. We're going to start with some celebrities.
And again, you can get yours at origin brewing.ca. That guy took great care of us in Phoenix
Scottsdale. What a gem from the moment we landed, Darcy Hortichuk.
what a jam and if you zoom in on his that's his basement bar red how good does that look and he's got a he's got a triple b there he's got a bb and a sand team what he's doing it's good i don't know what you mean i see he got the barn burger bligh yeah look at what a great guy what a great guy took such good care of us was yes and you know what i think it was genuine care i think he really want it wasn't one of those things where oh you know just give these guys a couple of whatever he really uh
genuinely cared about our good fortune.
It's come on the show a couple times.
You hooked this up with the waste management prize pack for the Christmas charity.
Then gracious host,
also his wife,
we did a grocery store run with her so we could get loaded up on Gatorade water,
lip candy,
all that good stuff for the trip when we,
when we landed.
So the Hort of Chuck's A1 in my book.
Looking good there,
Dars.
Out of boy.
Now this is our boy,
Devin from Amped.
he uh that's if you want it you know where to go folks like you can go to strathmore to the tap room but it's always going to be a big bk beaufort liquor our boy mandepe bling in the triple b
nice that was cold when that photo was taking all if you can look around i was going to say watch out for frostbite fellas
that's our boy justin from vina nova look at this i don't want to say he was drinking on the job but maybe just
cheering with the blonde.
Yeah.
Good on you, Justin.
Good job, guys.
Look at the sponsors coming through.
It's a big old, big old Barn burner family.
I love it.
So you got some nail polish on there?
Is that, uh, might be as, uh, yeah, that's a good point.
Yeah.
And then look at this.
You want to talk about sponsors these poor guys.
Oh, my goodness.
Now, for clarity, that is Greg from Bon Ton.
on with his
granddaughter there
and a smile on so clearly
taken before kickoff. That is pregame.
You did send that photo and say,
well, I'm going to need to drink a few more of these
once the final result came in.
That was not good.
No point leaving them full.
Yeah.
That's awesome.
Yeah, poor Greg.
How good is that, that's awesome.
You can get, now,
it's only getting bigger.
It's only getting stronger.
You're only going to see it in more and more places.
Now, what was the message we got?
Because Mark, I don't understand the booze business.
I don't know what the terminology is or how it works here, a booze bag.
So you know.
There is a central warehouse where all the booze purchases can be made for the province of Alberta.
We finally have got the BBB into Liquor Connect, which is the central warehouse.
So if you're a liquor store, restaurant, bar, pub, anywhere in the province, you can now just go click.
and it shows up from Liquor Connect.
We're in there.
We have kegs now.
We've got enough for kegs.
It was a hot run when we made that first canning run.
Now we're ready.
So please do bother your barkeep.
Or if you own a liquor store,
let us know.
That's right.
Let's go.
And that's the,
you want to get it,
you get into your liquor store?
You get it in your establishment.
We'll put you the show.
You're damn right.
What did we do with the garage in O'Clair, Rhett, when they brought in the Barber and a Bond?
What did we do?
We put them on the show.
That's what we did.
And then they said, well, it's a rotating tap.
We'll try it out for a bit.
Then they moved it into the mainstays.
It's not going anywhere.
Put them back on the show.
Put them back on the show.
What about the ship when they brought some origin in?
We put them on the show.
We put them on the show, Dino.
Damn right.
Right.
National.
They had some origins flying around.
put them on the show.
We put them on the show.
And that's what we'll do for you.
Get it in your life.
Get a little barn, burn and blonde into your life.
We'll do the Pinta Report in a moment.
We are going to, is I guess last week for the hearing loss clinic,
we showed you the latest prize package that we have.
And all of a sudden, this young fellow is having himself a heck of a little run.
Mr. Huberdow, whoever that is.
Was it eight points in his last eight games?
Ain't eight.
Feeling it.
Looking good.
there you go, autographed,
blasty edition of a Huberdo jersey.
Signed, look at that.
There you go on that.
Today is your last day.
We will shut it down today.
We will draw a winner and we'll announce it on the show perhaps tomorrow.
Perhaps tomorrow.
We'll see how, because I don't,
I kind of leave the social media up to other people that actually know what they're doing.
So go to Instagram, go to X.
You need to be following the hearing loss clinic.
It's the hearing loss clinic.
On X, it's the hearing loss clinic on Instagram.
And we could get you, uh, get that into your hands.
Beautiful little autographed sweater right there,
courtesy of the hearing loss clinic.
Good stuff.
You're gonna be able to do.
Bill.
I was gonna ask, and we'll get into the Pinda report.
We, we talked earlier about it.
What do you see in from Lindholm Retro?
because we've been critical of him throughout the season.
I think that's fair to say.
I think that much of it has been earned.
I think he has looked disinterested or whatever.
Are you seeing a change?
Are you seeing a little bit more to him as of late?
Because the points aren't there to the extent,
like Sharon Govich has been on a real tear.
Sorry, we talked about Hubert O and Sharon Govich just had all the goals.
He hasn't had that big offensive clip to the same extent.
He's had some points, obviously.
But are you seeing a bit of a change in him?
or is it kind of status quo?
I think it's probably a better attitude,
but everyone's having more fun.
So he's,
you're going to get dragged into it as well,
even if,
but I think for me personally,
my opinion on,
on Lindholm is just,
it's been confirmed more than anything.
He's not a number one,
take over a game,
drive,
shift after shift,
dominate kind of player.
He's a real good two-way centerman.
I agree entirely.
I think,
that's what we've learned this year.
Yeah.
Can he score?
Well, if he's got great playmakers around, I'm sure.
Yeah.
He's going to defend.
He's going to play all special teams.
He's a great player at everything.
I shouldn't say.
He's a very good player at everything,
probably great at nothing in a sense.
You know what I mean?
I talk a lot about,
for defensemen,
there's certain guys you just mesh with that it's easy.
You didn't have to,
like Jay McKee was always an example for me
that I use.
I think Lindholm would be that guy if you were forward.
If you're playing with him,
it's probably really easy to play with.
Yeah.
He's smart.
He does the right things.
Works the right way.
Right?
Like he would just be really easy to play with.
But he's not a clear cut number one offensive producing guy.
No.
I'm just thinking if you're lining up centers in the West,
like there's not a team in the playoffs.
I don't think that you'd be like,
uh,
Lindholm's better.
in that center and if it was their number one guys
and that feels like a shot at him. But I do think
you could line them up against a lot of the second line centers
and be like, hmm, I agree.
Miscast here in a way, right?
Yeah, I agree 100%.
Is he miscast? It's just the way it is.
He's, you're the best chairman, right?
That's what it's going to be.
And, you know, is it fair to compare
him to some of the other guys?
Probably not, but that's the thing.
He wants to be paid like some of those other guys.
So it's him who,
in a way asking he's going to draw that comparison when you're what if nine million okay well let's see
what nine million gets you down the middle in the west and he just isn't the flames will miss him
dearly i think when he is gone and depending on how they replace him because he does do he's a good
he's a very good player he plays minutes he wins draws but penalty the whole thing um but he's not worth
that kind of money
and
that's just ultimately
if you want to be in that
pay, if you want to be in that pay group
in that pay structure, then your
game needs to kind of dictate
that. It doesn't.
It's word out, sorry I'm jumping in front of you there, but it's word out
to his agent and to himself
that you should reevaluate
what you're going after because
other teams have to be watching
this and agents aren't stupid.
but they're going to be talking to other teams that would be interested in having him next year,
sign as a free agent, whether they're allowed to or not, I don't care about,
I'm not naive.
Is word going to get back to him that, hey, yeah, we'd love to have you, but your request,
we can't meet it as well.
As crazy as, yeah, as crazy as July 1 gets, it's not nine, north of nine, seven years versus 8,
you know, like, that's getting hurt even more.
You just can't give full term and free agency.
Like you can't if you're staying with your team.
But I don't think like they're disillusioned to what happens.
Like they see the games too.
He's not on a 40 goal pace.
He scored 40 the other year.
He's floored with 100 points a few years ago.
He's nowhere near that.
Like no,
they understand.
And the ask the season before is like, well, okay, you want to lock us up.
If we had a career year, what would that be worth?
And I think they kind of got in the right neighborhood.
It's just not anything close to career year because the talent around him
hasn't been anywhere near what Chuck and Goddrow provided him two years ago,
which was, probably will be the career year for him.
Yeah, and if you know, the agent can argue that,
but if you're at GM, I don't give a shit who you're playing with.
Your job's to, you want to make that much.
You drive the bus.
Yeah.
And look, we'd all want to make more money,
but I don't think he's expecting to get that.
He could have this summer.
But if he's, like,
it would be silly to not adjust your expectations when you've played half a season
and the results are clear as day.
He's a great secondary piece.
He's not a number one center.
They know that.
And is it actually two years?
because he wasn't that good last year.
Yeah, no, last year was just okay.
But last year we kind of wrote off to like the whole thing was a cluster bleep.
Yeah, this is functional team.
You can, but he's part of the reason it was a cluster bleep because he didn't play.
It's two years of, I'm just an okay.
And that's why I don't think the agent's still asking for the same number.
It would be ridiculous.
You're just going to get laughed at.
Yeah, because I do.
I feel like his play has turned around a little bit.
And you're kind of seeing now what,
Elias, because he's got some guys,
they're not elite level, but they're playing
very good. They're playing very well,
is what I should say. Sharon Govich is scoring.
Hubert O's been better. They're a very good
line right now. There seems
to be some chemistry there where there hasn't been in the
past. And
what is this,
you know, what is present
day Elias Lindholmworth? And I don't
know that the flames and he
come back to the table.
We've talked about Hanofen. Is there any
situation, if you're
you're Craig Conroy retro if your phone rings and it's Lindholm's agent.
He says, hey, you know what?
The mood is different.
The winds have been more plentiful than the losses.
Would you, what, if we were going to start over and look at Lindholm's thing in
Calgary long term, would you have interest?
Well, it goes back to everything.
I were playing chess or checkers.
If it's checkers, then I'm absolutely talking to them.
But if it's chess, I need to know what the offers are in return.
before I do that.
You don't play six a year.
We'll have you forever.
That's just not realistic though, right?
Now, to simplify it,
it's going to be crazy, but I'm
saying yes, and I'm basing it off
of a month or just over a month of play
that this team,
when you start
the season, the way you start,
you earn that criticism and you
earn what goes with it.
You get shit on.
When you play as well as they have,
Since then, you earned that as well.
But you've given me the, they don't give a shit about me,
but you've given the coach, the GM, the organization, the fans, the media,
everyone that watches this team, you've given them a reason to believe in you.
And you now have to reevaluate.
It's not October when this is bullshit.
These guys aren't even shown up and trying.
These guys, like, shoot them to the moon, get rid of them for nothing.
No, they've played good hockey and they've beat good teams and they're battling to get into a playoff spot.
And then a goalie that's playing Vesna caliber hockey.
Do you piss it out the window?
Is it a bad plan to sell guys?
No.
But you can also keep them and you're going to take a run at it.
I don't know how you add to the squad.
I still think that down the road you're going to end up.
I don't see a clear path to success other than Markstrom playing his ass off.
but you've played well enough,
we should at least consider it.
Anyway, I think at the end of the day,
you regret, if you don't do anything, it's fine,
but you'll still regret it.
Because what you're not going to do is give yourself an opportunity
to pick up that difference-making superstar.
You know what I mean?
Overly, highly, highly talented pivot up the middle or winger,
or, you know, I think you're going to be monkeying around
trying to get put the pieces together for from years to come if you don't go and get that piece that
that high level elite elite talent yeah i i just think keeping him around makes it harder to find
a number one center because he's proven he isn't um to your point and then secondly i just feel like
he's earned the right to say you know what i want to try something somewhere else yeah oh absolutely
i just wonder so if if the determination is he's a very he's a second line center it's almost like the
Franklin thing.
Second,
I'd be very good
third line center.
What is the going
rate for a really good
second line center in the NHL?
Oh,
I'd be happy to pay him seven a year.
I don't,
he'll ask for more.
I think he'll get more.
But like you,
you can go look at like Bo Horvett.
He was,
he'd rather pay J.T. Miller
and certainly rather pay
Elias Pedersen,
understandably so.
But he went over and he got big bucks.
You can look at Mark Schifley.
There's another,
okay,
great if he's your second center,
right?
Like,
there's a,
market for those guys.
So I just want to,
I just want to jump in.
I just want to jump in.
So if,
if the ask was nine and if we kind of agree,
well,
they'd have to back off of that.
Yeah.
And you're okay at seven.
Yeah.
Well, just on an eight year deal.
Ask yourself this.
Who's better?
Him or Cadry?
Right now, well,
well, just,
Cadry's been on,
you would rather have for the next seven years or six years
is left on Caddry.
You'd rather have Linhol.
But.
you're already committed to
Caudry. It's collecting the number of these guys
that's the issue. It's not committing to Lindholm. It's the issue.
It's that it's another guy that's going to be
into his mid-30s and you're getting some back nine with, right?
If you don't have Codry locked up and you,
then I'm like, yes, you need a number two-send.
I'm not, I'm not talking about,
I'm not talking about lineups. I'm talking about
money, what Lindholm's going to look for. And it all comes together.
I get it.
But if Lindholm's looking for nine and I can look at
Codry and go, he's making seven and a half and he's more impactful
on a game to game basis.
Why would I pay you?
Like, isn't that the number you should be at?
Codry's older when he hit free agency,
then Lindholm will be.
And he never had the high ceiling offensively that Lindholm flashed with stars.
So I think he'll get more than Codry and free agency this summer.
But it's not a bad starting point.
Like if Codry's seven times seven,
well then we'll ask for eight and a half.
half time seven yeah i because i i'm curious how this one will go and i don't i i really do
think he's still a trade candidate more than a re-signed for sure he has to want to be here right
like that's the other thing that we haven't talked about a lot that's the main thing sorry boom and
you're going to make a point but we talk we we've talked about before yesterday we touched on
it i think the flames are now in a position where they can move them and fill that spot they
have a cadre they have a backland you're not you might not get a watch
as far as a player as good as Lindholm,
but you're going to get something.
And you can do two things at once.
You can move Lindholm and still make the playoffs.
Because Lindholm is not the one driving the bus,
getting you to the playoff line.
It's a lot of minutes,
but they do have guys that can step in.
At center, it's going to be tough.
But let's say you get a third line center back and a pick in that deal.
Yeah.
Your top two centers are Cadrey Backland.
The way they're playing this year,
it's like, okay, you're not going to wow.
anyone, but it's very, they're good players.
You've got a Coronado and a
Peltier waiting in the wings. You,
you've mixed those guys in, slide someone else to the
middle. I mean, there's, if
they could do both those things, it would be quite impressive.
But again, we're, we're
in Mucky Middelland here, guys. Look what we're talking
about here. Yes, but that's why if you're going to
be in Mucky Middelland, you better push your
ass to get the playoffs. Yeah.
There's no, like,
if you're going to write it out, you're not going to dump
guys. Like, if you're, if you don't want to be
Mucky Middle, then you should be selling right
now because all you're doing by pro i get that you want to maximize your return but you're also
effing yourself up for your picks if you if you keep these guys and remain money mucky middle
and then so maybe you get better picks but your picks going to be shittier because you've got
more points in the bank like it you're kind of fighting yourself as well yeah yeah totally all this
stuff is mushy middle stuff man and the way they treat markstrom here might be a little bit telling
like I get the sense that if he's ready to go,
they might still give it a game or two.
And if you really want to see what internally they believe,
like I still think they want to be like,
bump the brakes a bit.
Like let's not get too excited about maybe being eighth in the West
and having to go on the road as a wild card
against the team that's much better than us.
If you're going to do it, this is your year though.
I'll argue the other side just to argue it.
You've got a goaltender that can win you a series.
Yep.
You don't always have that option.
Alibuck and who else has been better than Markstrom this year?
Because I'm a short list.
The first thing that went into my head was that Dallas series and how good he was.
Then the next series, he was not very good.
But you're right.
And then conversely, other teams have to be feeling the same way.
If our window to win is small and if this guy might be available,
don't wait for Conroy to start the auction.
let's go in there and let's blow his socks off.
Yeah.
That's why I'm surprised.
Yeah.
I'm a little surprised that hasn't happened or maybe it has and Conroy is not
biting.
Like if I may and it always goes to Toronto because they've got the most money and I feel
like they're 100% win now mode.
Maybe I'm crazy.
Maybe they're right.
But you're going after Tannav and Marks from right now.
Yeah.
Right now.
and if you like and if i'm true living i'm going for it we thought he went for it last i think he did i
think he threw everything into it last year well the leaves were in a better spot to have long
or are in a better spot to have short-term success this year than the flames were in last year
if i'm sure living and i i went for it before last year with the flames i would be going all in on leaps
Yeah, they've got one year left on that
Marner deal. I'd be stunned if they
don't have a gole and a defenseman at minimum.
And we saw them last year. They added yarn croak.
They added McCabe. They added another body.
I'm trying to remember. They're going to move
young assets to get players to help.
They're absolutely in win now.
I wonder if he's true living
if he's kicking himself a little bit, going back
to the Zadorov thing, even to have him
at this point. Didn't have
a space, man. If you're going to eat money
on it, this is what you're looking at.
So you do something else, right? You get
creative you find a way to do it teams seem to a lot of times find those ways
yeah wasn't he wasn't an eight million dollar he wasn't an eight million dollar guy uh i just
wonder you look where they're at now goal tendings an issue defense is an issue and there's a guy
wherever you want to rank them but that was a tradable asset that was a guy on the blue line
i was moved yeah they'll they'll add d at the down i i really believe that yes they could
have gotten zedorov they're waiting for something
that fits better financially for them.
And the closer they get to the deadline,
the more space there is around the league,
the more people that can be a bank
and eat some money for you,
the more established prices become
for doing that, for the players.
Like, they'll do things.
Another question.
I think I don't,
I think I know where Rhett will go on this.
But we know that Friedman on Saturday
was talked about Markstrom.
And everybody's kind of,
we saw Kevin Weeks do his thing on Twitter.
So was it Markstrom, Markstrom is kind of
in that rumor mill right now.
Whether there's any reason for it to be other than his good play, who's to say?
But Elliot on Saturday, and I know online, I think he was on his podcast or whatever it was,
I just see it online, that the flames have not gone to Markstrom, they won't go to Markstrom,
they want to be delicate, they don't want to talk to him and talk about this.
Is it really that delicate a situation?
Are the relationships so tenuous that you risk, you know, spoil, you know, spoil?
a good thing by just saying,
hey, what, what do you want to do long term?
What's, what are you thinking?
I would think that if you're a GM of a team,
you should have a better relationship with people.
Right?
Right.
Well, I just think you do it at the deadline, guys.
Like, he's playing the best hockey of his career.
You want to go plant that between his ears?
I would have done it months ago, though.
I wouldn't have been waiting until now.
I would have, I should, as a GM, you should know that answer by now.
I think you have a gut, but there's a technical process about a no movement thing, right?
That doesn't mean in September I can't go talk to Jacob Marks and go, hey, dude, like, what's your thoughts?
Well, and I wouldn't be surprised that conversation has happened, right?
It's just that.
But what I'm saying is, oh, do you think, I don't know if they want to go talk to him?
I'm not sure.
I kind of with Brett, don't you have a relationship that's somewhat to the extent where, hey, I know you're hearing your name a lot,
We're not looking to trade you, but yeah, teams are calling.
We don't know how this is going to go.
We're going to try and wait, obviously, but what do you?
And again, what the agents do?
You don't call Markstrom if you don't have that relationship.
You call the agent and go, hey, dumbass, what's his deal?
And then the agent calls and massages in it because he's got the relationship with them.
It shouldn't be that touchy a subject.
Yeah.
Kids these days.
There should be more clarity when you.
you get into March about what this team is.
And I know what we've been waiting for that for a while and by Christmas
we'll know a while, but you know what?
That's not what he's asking.
That's not what I'm asking.
No, but that, that's a huge variable in this, this decision is,
I'm not talking about what I'm saying, what I'm asking is.
It's just asking about the, it's just the relationship between Conroy and Markstrom.
They make it sound like, ooh, geez, you better not, you know, are you really in a position
where you, you can't even, you're sitting having a beer on the bus on the way to
the airport or just whatever.
It's like, you're, fuck, man, you're playing great.
It's unbelievable.
We don't know how it's going here, but
are you here?
What do you want to do?
How would that convoy have gone with Kipper with two years
left done of steel? Do you think it happened?
I'm asking. I don't know.
I think it would have been fine.
Yeah?
I think Kipper would have given you an honest answer.
I don't think it would be.
Yeah, like we're speculating on what
conversations may or may not happen.
I have no idea on this one.
Again, I'm not saying what conversations may have happened.
I'm just talking about that.
Every time you hear that, it's like GMs are shit scared to talk to star players about potentially,
you don't do it until you've, is that the relationship?
There's a lot of drama that gets projected too out there that is a bunch of BS.
There's so much stuff that goes on and they all have answers.
Oh, nobody talks about bullshit.
Yeah, like even just the week's tweet.
That's what necessitated this whole conversation, right?
Like, what did he actually say?
Nothing. He shouldn't.
Get a picture and an emoji.
So if you're worried about, okay, well, geez, we're not shopping Markstrom.
I don't want that to be out there that we're shopping Markstrom.
And then all the insiders call you to say, what the hell's happening?
He's like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Like, we love Jacob.
Like, it's going to take a bigger event than this for us to talk about trading him, even though you as a GM, it's your job to know, okay, what's he worth, what's left on the deal?
What other teams need goal?
He's like, I think this is all very normal behavior, no?
you understand, I still don't think you're hearing, like,
like that's all the formatics of it, of getting a trade.
I'm just talking about Conroy and Jacob Markstrom.
Yeah.
The two guys down at the dome.
Do you think, do you think they have a relationship where,
where Conroy can go and talk to them and not,
not tell the world.
Do you think, yeah, it's nothing about,
I could say to Jacob Markstrom.
It's nothing about the Kevin Weeks tweet or anything.
It's just the notion that you can't talk to Markstrom.
I think you absolutely would, yeah.
I think we're all in the same page here.
Yeah.
It's just there's only one reason we're talking about, right?
That's the challenge.
It's just like the only thing that change is some guy tweeted an emoji in a picture.
No, it's not that.
We've talked about this otherwise on the show.
How long have we talked about the potential of trading Markstrom?
All year, but you're talking about the relationship with the GM now.
That's what you said we're talking about.
The only reason we're talking about that because Elliot came on a Saturday after a guy tweeted an emoji in a pitcher of Markstrom.
I don't.
You think that's why Elliot,
brought it up is because of the week's tweet?
100% yes.
Not because of his play?
I think when that happened, that started the,
oh my gosh, what's happening here?
Is there something inevitable?
And then all the insiders call to say, what's going on?
Anyway, I think that Elliot's probably been listening to our show and getting,
that's probably a bit.
Well, he's jealous.
He wants on.
But he knows if he comes on here, what he's going to have to do,
and he doesn't want to do that.
Oh.
Doesn't want to do that.
Time for the Pinder report.
Presentation of Village Honda.
Northwest Autumn all and online, now I'm getting him in trouble.
VillageHonnet.com.
Now's about the time with the temperatures.
Now, see, this is when you want to take a vehicle for a test drive.
It's cold enough.
The roads, it's kind of slippery.
What am I, what kind of dependability?
You guys keep telling me about Honda and Village Honda dealership for life and all that.
Well, the last few days has been bitterly cold.
you might not want to now, you know, get up there, test, maybe it's a new, maybe it's pre-owned,
whatever the case we, hey, you know what, I was kind of looking for something.
I don't really see it on your lot.
Hey, come on in.
Have a cup of coffee.
Have a, have a mocha, if that's your thing.
And we'll go through the dealership group because we've got access to more than 400 plus
vehicles within the dealership group.
We're going to find you something.
We're going to find a deal that works and we're going to make you happy behind the wheel of a dependable,
new or pre-owned vehicle from Village Honda,
located in the Northwest Automol.
Village Honda presents the Pinder Report.
Boys, we talked to other news of the day.
It is a Jacob Markstrom day-to-day injury
and a Dustin Wolf recall.
We'll see later this morning,
who it looks like will be starting tonight
against Arizona Coyotes as they open a six-game homestand
that will take them right into the All-Star break
and their seven-day CBA mandated break.
It's a long time until they play on the road again.
Feb-6.
So settle in for some home cooking on a break.
There's the first week of the homestand, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday.
We know how it goes this month.
Zona who you've seen.
Toronto, you'll wrap the season series.
We'll get some interesting, you're living back in Calgary,
conversations, columns, interviews, I'm sure.
And then a Battle of Alberta.
It's been a while, boys.
It was Nazim Kadri dressing up the boys, like,
what did we decide it was?
A funky bunch.
Were they dressed up as?
We don't know yet.
We were trying to figure it out.
But they weren't wearing shirts and they were wearing overall.
Village people?
YMCA?
Yeah.
Come on, Eileen.
That's what they're dressed up as.
It's been since then that they saw the Oilers.
This will be the second battle of Alberta.
We'll be in Jasper for our post-game show with the honks from Oilers Nation.
They'll have nothing to say with this year's team.
Yeah.
They're going to tell us.
how good all of the people that get to play with Connor
McDavid are. And they'll
believe it. Oh, it's
there's no question. Yes.
No.
You don't believe? Can't come in the church if you don't believe.
And it's so nice in Jaster. Everything else is so nice
up there.
It's such a beautiful spot in the world.
Oilers Nation show up and ruin it.
We have to beat the snot out of them in that game.
It's the only thing that matters now this week.
Well, how's your lineup? How's your Ross?
Pretty good. Yep.
Yeah, we got some skill.
I'm happy with us.
Be better if you didn't quit on the team, Dean, but I get it.
I don't think it would be.
I think you've made the right choice.
I am making the team better by not playing.
It's, uh, we could use an extra body out there, a little breather.
Let's go protect the net for a shift.
No, your lungs, you've been working out.
You're in great shape.
Get to, uh, standings.
Do we do the standings?
No.
Let's do the standings.
They don't have a standings.
Inverted.
don't have the standings. Who wants the stands? The inverse standings?
They're two out with the games in hand being way off. But crazy to think this club's
two back of Edmonton with the heater they've been on. Either way,
um,
Mucky Middleville for sure. Let's go look at the week Blake Coleman had.
Good enough for second star of the week in the NHL. That's decent company.
Elias Pedersen, nine points and four games.
Out of boy, Blake. Georgiev. Three games,
one shutout, all victories. And then.
there's Rusty Coleman's kid, the Texas Tiger, star number two right in the middle.
Now, do you, and I think I know the answer, how much stock do you put into plus minus at this point?
Because there's so many different ways to evaluate players performance.
There's just lots better.
It tells a story, but there's much better stories to tell.
Have you looked at his plus minus?
Probably phenomenal.
Because he's leading the team in goals and points.
he's a plus 23
geez and their goal differential
is actually almost back to sea level isn't yeah
he's lapping the team on yeah
and I don't know what do they
what do you use for metrics or measurements
for the Selke award I don't know
because guys got goals and points
and he's playing a third line role
and they don't get scored on a ton
plus 23 you get for short-handed goals
because he's got four of those
he's having an unbelievable
I wasn't sure he was
capable of it at this point in his career.
It's a career year. There's no question.
By all measures, pretty much.
This is well beyond, he's flirting with career highs right now.
Never mind the rest. Thank you, Jack. Look at that.
There's a thousand numbers.
Wonderful.
Holy.
A lot of info there.
There's too much almost. Yeah, that's a lot.
Depending on the size of your screen, maybe too much.
Coyotes come to town. What's up with the oats?
They didn't look good last Thursday at the Mollet Arena.
Although they are a young talented team.
There's Bain, Keller and Schmaltz top line,
Micelli, Kerfut, and Kraus,
Eugstad, Gunther, and Logan Coolly.
There's your top nine there.
And noted tough guy, Jason Zucker,
who, uh, well, he fought after Nick Cousins.
He's a good teammate.
And one of those teammates.
And noted to fight a Liam O'Brien's in there, actually.
There's the real fighter.
Bukestead had a hat trick.
In his last game, I believe it was a Minnesota.
They won that one six-nothing.
Lost and Chris.
Krause is having a year. He's got 17 goals. Do you remember how they got him?
They paid Dave Boland money when Dave Boland was done playing hockey.
Florida wanted to get rid of Dave Boland's money. Right.
Just take this prospect off our hands. We can't pay this man.
That's crazy. Yeah, that's right. He's having a year. I don't think it's, I don't think that's who he is, but he's having a year.
I don't, I don't think it's not what he is. That's a decent middle six path forward right there.
JJ Moser and Sean Bursey, top pair, Dermott and Dumbah,
and our boy Troy Stetcher.
That's a boy, Troy.
Stature does.
Missed you, Troy.
Rock in the Kachina and Desert.
Where's Valamaki?
He was running a bubble while ago and before Nick Cousins hit him in the head.
So took a, uh, did you take one in the face meat?
Is that what it was?
It was bubble and then he took the hit from Cousins when he was wearing the bubble.
Yeah.
Dirty Nick Cousins.
Did you notice the boys were going after Nick Cousins a little bit?
Should be.
A little bit.
Yeah.
There's a few of those this year.
He's become a marked man and rightfully so.
Yeah.
Mark Rundre Flores, fellas, second all time and wins.
Next stop.
Sadly, Toronto.
The Hall of Fame.
Yeah.
Brut Street and Young.
What a likable guy.
Hey.
Great human.
Still playing.
First overall.
Great human.
Loved everywhere he goes.
How do you get a good attitude?
like he's got.
Yeah.
Playing pranks.
Everyone loves them.
Is it beloved or loved?
What's better?
Beloved.
Beloved.
Beloved.
Beloved.
He's got those teeth smiling all the time.
Yeah.
The flower.
I'd love for him to go back to the pangs.
Wrap it up in Pittsburgh.
That'd be kind of fun too.
Ah, fuck Montreal.
Yeah, that's fair.
Less beloved.
Sorry, folks.
Sorry, kids.
Less beloved, nearly bust, and posing with AK-40,
sevens in the off season, Val Nchuschuskin has entered the PA's
Player Assistance Program.
What a year he's had, though.
Jace. I mean, yes and no.
Well, yeah.
Last season ended with him leaving the team in the middle of a first round series.
They lost to Seattle.
But yeah, what just eclips 20 goals and now into.
Is he the one that had that somebody broke into his hotel room?
Is that what it was? He had somebody.
I don't know that that was the story, but yeah, the team personnel had to resists.
I'm trying to have a pregame.
Knapp, please, miss.
He's getting help right now.
He's getting what he needs.
Thank you. Good job. Good for you, Valerie.
You're having a great season on the ice.
Look forward to having you back soon.
Okay, next item.
What have we got, Jacko?
Mills?
Not bills yet. We're getting close, though.
Watch this goal.
This is absolutely insane.
This is Brown against McNivitt.
Brown.
Oh, what a goal.
You've seen the Michigan.
fellas. He picks this up on the backhand
and lacrosse is this into the net. This is
quite something. We'll get a replay here.
It's East Coast All-Stars against the
Ghost Pirates Dean.
Backhand, swoop.
Get used to these fellas.
Yeah, that goal is a shit.
Stop the buck.
Like, right, you're seeing this with your, the kids
you're coaching, I'm guessing, all the time.
Like, end of practice, they're just.
You know what? They got that new
lacstein. And it's like it's
I was going to say, because I don't, you know me,
I'm big into science.
I don't know how you put the back of your stick.
Your freaking backhand and foop.
It's so loaded with wax and goo that it's just stick them.
Dr. Zogs just all over the blade there.
That's right.
Okay.
Let's go to the NFL.
Reds your bells.
Let's go to the NFL.
I'm good with going to the NFL.
Let's do the NFL.
Let's do it.
And another home game for my Buffalo.
Well,
Elite eight.
Fellas,
we don't have a lot of games.
left we have four this weekend we will have three after that there are seven football games left
savor the flavor so you rotten bastards took shots at my bills all year you shit talked to me you shit
talked to me you shit talked to them and what happens when they need to they show up and they start
to curb stop everybody they play the way they need to play and those big fat cats from dallas
and philly they get to go home and chew on their turkey legs and their philly cheesecakes and they get
Dean, are you a fan of the Philly cheesecake?
I love the cheesecake in Philly.
It's a delicious steak.
Yeah, we got you.
Now, is that how that went?
We were.
Yes.
Yeah, because week one, we were down on the bills.
And Rhett was saying, no, guys, be patient.
It's just week one against the Jets, remember?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And Red was saying, no, no, they're still Super Bowl contenders.
It's just a bad game.
And we were like, no, they'll never win.
Right.
Anyway, we're all written for the bills, Red.
Sorry about all the negativity we've brought to your team.
Good luck, Buffalo.
Yeah, somehow they'll have to overcome that.
This is your Saturday slate.
The two teams with buys will be in action in the NFC that's San Francisco hosting Green Bay.
Green Bay was impressive.
You were at the sports book for that game, Dean?
I cannot imagine the words being thrown around the room for the huge number of Cowboys fans,
which would have money on Dallas, what, minus seven and a half?
And the Packers fans travel too, right?
So you had plenty of Packer fans kicking around.
and Cowboys fans, they're vocal.
It was quite an atmosphere because no one,
even Packers fans couldn't believe what they were watching.
Unbelievable. And you're right.
It's not just America's team.
There might not be two bigger fan bases outside of their own cities than Dallas and Green Bay.
Those are monster fan bases.
There were lots of Packer fans strutting around by halftime.
It was pretty good.
That is your Saturday night game.
Go back a second real quick, Jack.
The other side is Baltimore.
And Houston.
That was the game
missed it.
We were on the flight for this one, but
Stroud, Rhett. Stroud.
The kid's good.
It's going to be high fantasy pick next year.
I'm kidding.
And Lamar, your boy on the other side.
And we don't like Baltimore.
We don't like Lamar Jackson and the Ravens can beat it
because if the Ravens beat it, guess who plays at home again?
The bills.
Yeah, you're just assuming they beat Kansas City.
Let's get to that.
That game will be on Sunday.
It hits the bills.
That is your afternoon.
Oh, the bills would have to win. I see. Yeah, yeah.
Right. Okay. There you go.
And then the Saturday, Sunday midday game will be the Buccaneers who,
boy, did they just lay the wood out to Philly?
What a shitty season for the Eagles.
10 and 1, 11 and 1.
10 and 1. God.
And the Bucks move on to face the lions who were good, not great.
They did hold the Rams to just three field goals and three red zone appearances.
that turned out to be the difference.
They win by one with Sam Leporta back.
Or Sam.
Sam Leporta?
Did you say Dan?
Sam.
We both said Sam.
Good.
There are your odds.
Saturday.
It's a nine point edge for the Ravens at home.
Screw them, Rhett.
Let's go Texans.
Let's go Stroud.
And 10 for the Niners,
they are in a good spot because Green Bay played Sunday,
if I'm correct.
And San Fran's been off for, what,
A week and a half here.
No respect.
Huge edge advantage.
Rest advantage for the Niners here.
Sunday slate.
Let's look at some tighter numbers here.
Six being laid by the lions at home against the bucks.
And just three for the bills hosting the chiefs.
We've seen a lot of good Bill's chiefs in the postseason.
Now we see it in Buffalo.
This will be fun.
What do you got this way?
Is it an ice storm or electrical storm or what's it going to be this week?
Somebody was talking.
There's a couple more feet coming tonight.
Right.
Your flood?
There's some massive flood or something.
Could you bring your buckets and mops out to the stadium, please?
We've got six feet of water.
Sunday.
Oh,
finally on Sunday,
uh,
high of minus five and only seven percent chance of precipitation.
That's C or F?
You're minus five.
I'm in Canadian.
Oh, good.
Okay.
Don't need to translate then.
Okay.
So just below zero and a bit breezy?
Not even.
that's Bill's football, baby.
Who needs a roof, right, Dean?
Don't build a roof.
Roofs are so passing.
There's more haters in.
It's fine.
Okay.
Let's move.
Sadly,
time has come to say goodbye.
One of the greatest players and men
that our game has ever seen,
tweets the NFL.
What are you doing?
13 seasons with the Eagles.
Super Bowl champ, seven Pro Bowls,
six first team all pros.
Jason Kelsey.
done on the football field.
How do you know when in football?
Like I know for myself going to the
the rank and I'm like,
okay, this is quickly
coming to an end.
Like what's a,
what's, how does a football guy
decide?
I'm done.
You're sick of the tush push and you're
spending three days in a nice bath
between games. That's probably it, right?
Yeah, the body has to give
some clear indications.
Yeah.
That shit can't go on forever.
Did you watch the Kelsey
Doc, right?
It's on prime.
It's really watched because it was last year.
I hate it.
How he,
the time it took for him to figure it out.
He's like,
during the season,
I'm on a lot of anti-inflammatories in that.
Off season,
not so much.
It's hell.
So yeah,
I would think probably.
And there's going to have to be changes in Philly.
You can't run that for that.
Yeah, Nick Serian,
he's under a lot of certainty here.
A guy that went to the Super Bowl last.
year it's wild how up and down it can be for coaches and one and went to the super
year before whoops what's happening yeah and so it's like is is he the guy that did all those
things yes is he also the guy that ran this thing into the ground yes i don't know man like
we are not NFL insiders but isn't it wild to think about how good they were for a year
and a half to think they could move on like what didn't they beat the like sand and fran in that big
Dan Fran lost purdyed injury.
We were driving back from Jasper.
No, no, no, no, no.
This year they beat the Chiefs.
Remember when Duriani was walking off the fields?
I don't hear you so loud.
Now defense, go after yourself.
And they were dog shirt since then.
That was not quite, yeah.
Heard has some injury.
Couldn't stop anything defensively either.
There was atrocious.
And it was not the case for staff of the year.
Sorry, Frank.
Yeah.
Sorry, Frank.
Okay.
Not really.
You guys want to go to the Super Bowl?
It's in Vegas this year.
I found us a sweet people.
Now, I don't want the sticker shock to get you.
Just stay with me here.
We're going to show you how close this is to the end zone here, okay?
Ignore all that front there.
Don't worry about it.
Let's get some volume up here.
But you're wondering to yourself, well, the Super Bowl is in another month.
How much will it cost you to have these incredible seats right here at the Winfield Club?
And I'm here to tell you that this table right here is asking $700,000.
Oh, but what a memory.
And look at this view.
Now, if you want a little bit cheaper seat,
the seats in the back here,
the tables in the back,
$400,000 for the table right back there.
$700,000 are asking for the tables in the front.
But can you imagine, I'm going to sit right down here.
Imagine the Super Bowl and sitting right here
and having a view of the Super Bowl.
I think it's, I actually believe it is worth $700,000.
You may want to contact Wind Nightlife
to see if you can get that table.
Vegas
Holy See
Lifestyles of the rich and
famous
Red Warner
a retired hockey player
has gone to Vegas
and spending a lavish
million dollars
Canadian on a booth
Yeah, three years of my career
To go to the soup hole
And to sit there
And essentially still watch it on the big screen
Because you're too low
You can't see shit
Yeah there might be a touchdown
Out of that in there might not
People will see you though Dean
They will
That's what matters
You're probably gonna split that
amongst your buddies.
That's true.
Yeah, what is that?
That looks like that's
needed six at least,
didn't it?
Right?
So maybe you're talking
about a hun,
a quarter each.
A little more manageable,
right?
Yankee money.
Yeah, sure.
Have you?
Oh,
the season ends and it ends quick, fellas.
A mad,
look at this.
Tweet of the weekend.
I don't know.
I feel bad
taking a run at this guy.
He shows up.
He's into it.
He's giving her his all
for a squad and now he's
getting ridiculed.
And now he's like,
how many days to the draft?
and where's my makeup remover?
Well, and he's
nine points, really?
What the boy.
Like, where they even ended at one point,
they like scored to get within a touchdown
in the first half, that was it?
Like,
is that a real Mohawk, do you think?
Has he taken, has he gone right to,
because you can take the paint off,
but.
That looks from this angle,
rather legit, Dean.
It does kind of look real, yeah.
Not AI. That's what we'll call it.
Jeez.
Philadelphia's a town.
They'll take that well, though.
Understanding people, good-hearted, laid back,
water off and ducks back.
It's hard to win. It's hard to win.
Not easy.
Only one team can win, guys.
It's just not our year.
It's Brian Burke's thing, fellas.
Not too long ago, it was all about the hype for the quarterbacks from Alabama,
wasn't it?
Well, let's have a look.
There's Bryce Young on the right, if I'm correct, Dean.
How did his season go?
Not great.
Two at Tungo Viloa.
One win against the T-500 or better all year
and bumped in the playoffs.
Jalen Hertz, how's the second half of his season go?
And then Mack.
And Mack Jones got benched.
Who's really?
Yeah.
Like Billy Zappy.
Are you kidding me?
Bailey Zappy?
Yeah.
Some dude with a dog who took your job.
Alabama's another lovable program.
Easy to get behind.
Yeah, they're looking.
Are they called you, Rutt?
They need a leader of men.
Can't do it.
Do you know what's the pain?
I'm in.
You're right.
I'm in.
I'll do what those other coaches did.
I'll take the gig and they'll just get fired the year into the job.
The only thing better than being a coach is a fired coach.
Oh, man.
Is that the best or what?
The best.
Like 60, 70 million.
Are you kidding me?
Can you just stay home?
You're going to Frank Wright.
Right.
We're going.
Frank Wright, fired.
Got the job this year, fired again.
Well done, buddy.
Yeah, some double paid leave.
That's really good stuff.
Didn't Vinio Cavalier get that?
He got bought out twice?
He's getting like three checks a month.
Yeah.
Bio one, bio two, current team.
Still being painted.
Oh, yeah.
I'm going to chat.
Golfs a miserable sport.
Drives you nuts.
Almost impossible.
Some people are good at it and they're infuriating.
This kid is, okay, so it's a par five.
You and I would find a way to screw this up royally, Dean.
Okay.
Brett, this kid's already better than you.
Let's have a look.
So we're teeing off here.
It's the old family teas.
He's five years old.
Great swing on him.
Nice and smooth.
Wow.
He's a lefty, eh?
Look at this.
All right.
There's a second shot.
Now, it's a little right.
It looks like he's going to be up in the rough on the right here.
Yeah, there we are.
Beautiful.
Beautiful.
And he's just left it a little short of,
tip it up.
Oh, look at that.
Nice flop.
Okay.
A little long.
I'm not.
Good at that shot.
That's a tough shot.
Two puts for bogey here, right?
Let's see it.
Come on, kid.
That'd be impressive.
A bogey on a par five.
Five years old.
Screw it, par.
How awesome is that?
High five, dude.
Look at this kid.
What a gym.
He's got rider shoes on, too.
Yeah, fuck, those are riders.
There you go.
Oh, kid.
Did your folks take video of you guys doing special things
when you're youngsters?
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I was debating someone who's quite impressive.
Yeah, he wrote an argument with somebody.
You're like, Ryan is now arguing the sun is blue.
Hey, you know what?
I'm sure it's a coincidence.
I'm sure that's the first time that dad has taken any video of his boy.
Oh, yeah.
Just happen to be a par five.
Just be happy for the kid, Dean.
Don't worry about the dad.
Don't worry about the dad.
And you know what else?
Zero proof that that was a par five.
I don't think
getting that to Guinness, to be fair.
Zero.
That could have been a par three for a
A bit of par three.
It could have been some flub shots in there.
It's,
you can edit things.
You want some official timing.
We want some real results
that are quantifiable.
Yes, sure do.
I'll run the other day.
So I don't like talking about anything
unless I've got facts
and quantifiable data.
Cold hard facts.
Could have been some dad doing retakes.
This is real.
My Aussie buddies are cheering me on.
We had a foot race guys and look at the start I get off to here.
This is good stuff.
So, yeah, they're flat there, big mall.
I got a good start here, but I'm not...
These guys are conditioned around us.
I'm coming out of the gate.
You know I'm gonna slow down this point here, right, Dean?
You can't start that hot.
I think talking 400 meter here looking at the length,
that probably like he sees.
I didn't know you had a running split.
Well, and it's aerodynamic, haircuts off the sides that gave the few seconds off by a four hard time.
Listen to the fellows here, bring him to the head on the stretch.
Almost there.
Oh, my right.
Here we go, here we go, come on.
Let's go, baby.
Don't wait for buddies.
Don't wait for buddies.
Oh, no.
Finish Dave.
I got me.
I go me.
I go me.
The boys are jazz.
Oh, man.
That is fantastic.
I feel like I was in that box.
It sounds like me laughing and wheezing and coughing and spitting in there.
He was fine until he waved, Dean.
You can't have a wave.
That is.
That's tough.
Rhett was in the warehouse with Rob.
They're killing some time.
We always talk about our buddies that Finning Cat.
They love playing around on the toys.
Someone had a forklift and they're just going to help out in the wear.
That's our barn burner blonde.
Oh, no.
Oh, no.
This movement.
Oh.
Oh.
Petrus.
Or Jenga.
Manga.
Get away.
Go, go, go.
Get out of the way.
Yeah.
So we might be a little behind on the cans.
It looks like just talking with Sterling and Mark.
We have kegs.
Yeah, we have kegs.
The red ones are the barn burner.
Yeah.
Blues are the loggers.
That's tough.
You're fired.
You're fired.
Just.
Just fireball.
Fierkees.
Orklift.
Yeah.
It's fun working with you, fellas.
I'm going to change my name and move to a new state.
You talked about a last place fantasy football punishment, Dean.
I found it.
It was not a chicken.
It was a lion.
Last place, lion suit, paintball.
This is it, yeah.
Oh.
It makes me happy.
Makes me very happy.
Yeah.
Just covering his balls.
Yep.
that you're going to work a lot harder on the way of why
what kind of loser is this so let's be honest
like we're thinkers on this show right are we deep deep thinkers
yeah so if you know boom actually pinder
because you lost you're terrible at fantasy football
bad this year you were first dean so pender
when you make this bet this bet happens and we go to this
paintball range are you not where
in a cup?
You've got to be
Are you not doing a light
padding of some sort of, you know,
your buddies are going to try and notice
it, but you're going to show up with some sort
of strategic
placement of certain things
to minimize the damage done.
Are you not?
I feel like his effort level and getting ready for this
is probably similar to his effort level
GMing that fantasy team to last place.
Just not ready, not prepared, not working.
Not being smart. You started a dead guy.
no cup.
That's right.
The only thing better is if they didn't let him wear clothes or a costume.
So he'd be taking them right off the pasty weight torso.
A little welts everywhere.
That would suck.
Yeah.
Speaking of which,
make sure to know whether it's high tide or low tide when you're out in the dock there, Rhett.
You guys are in your lakes, but the ocean's different.
Philly salmon, bud.
Look at his head snap.
I know.
That's not a soft landing.
Wack.
Yeah.
He's trying to be funny.
Watch this, boys.
I got it.
It's a funny one.
Ha ha.
Oh.
The aliens are just,
this isn't even a fair fight.
I don't know.
Did you see the guy jump into the?
Yeah.
These guys are idiots.
They're morons.
They watch the show.
They say the same thing.
So that's your Pender Report here on a Tuesday.
There you go.
Brought to you by Village Honda,
a huge selection of used vehicles, all makes, all models, all budgets,
not to mention new in-stock inventory arriving daily.
Start your automotive adventures at Village Honda, new vehicle pricing, as always.
MSRP, your dealership for life, Village Honda.
And to regurgitate some stupid, just apparently the teachers are,
and I know this on good authority, because I just received a picture of my sister
and her husband who are teachers, they're striking in Saskatchewan.
minus 40.
Oh.
That's either genius and stupid.
Are they striking because it's minus 40?
I don't know, but I feel like they've got some leverage right now.
This is savvy.
This is an Alan Walsh power play they're running right here.
Hell no, we won't go.
Hell no, we won't go.
Sorry.
Striking home.
That's what they're doing.
Yeah.
We'll give you the raise.
Get your asses back in here.
It's minus 40.
I can't have my kids in the house.
dig up
dig up stupid
I got a
I got a little note from
Greg Keller
I'm not sure if you like this red
now we showed Greg earlier in the program
with his granddaughter
there they were in their cowboys gear
why wouldn't I like Greg Keller
I'm just saying he sent me a note
he says he's going to buy
some Buffalo Bills jerseys
oh
he might be leaving
Is he done?
Keep punching Keller
Is he done with them
there were a lot of those videos the last couple days.
Yeah, what, Skip Bayless does one every year, doesn't he?
Yeah, it's getting tired.
See, look at there's Greg.
Got the barber to plow, the granddaughters, the child abuse borderline there.
We'll take you in, Greg.
Got her decked out.
We will take you in.
Yeah, hopefully bedtime's before the end of that game.
As long as you can shovel and you got horn boots, we're happy to have you.
Yeah.
And if you wouldn't mind smuggling.
some potato salad that would also help you can you bring the potato salad or the beer please just
get across the border there goes rob gray how's he doing do you see much of them he's doing that he's
he was sick and he's bouncing back he dropped off he dropped off this is a kind of good guy that rob
is he dropped off some beautiful grouper fillets a big massive uh uh uh
bag of shrimp and some beautiful, uh, crab claws. The stone crab claws those big fat bastards
from the warm waters down near Florida, I believe.
Um, that right.
Mm-hmm.
Grouper.
That's a, I don't like, I don't want to go fishing for grouper.
Because you see those, when they get there's massive.
There's, yeah, the giant grouper is, it's a swallow you whole.
Yeah.
not good.
There's,
they're a scary,
weird,
awful looking thing.
Not having.
Delicious too.
Fried group or sandwich.
Yeah,
they are good.
A.
They are good.
So spirits are high
in Buffalo.
Everybody's happy.
I think people are,
I think so.
I think so.
What is your temperature
as we get ready
for a Chiefs matchup?
Because we've seen these two teams
play previously.
I'm confident in this
matchup for,
some reason. I think the bills match up well against the chiefs. They've played them hard. They've
had success. Obviously, they blew that in a spectacular fashion a few years back, but I still think
that they, in all and all, they've outplayed the chiefs and they kind of got their number, but anything's
possible. Mahomes is a, Mahomes is an accomplisher. He's a ad lib, make things happen. So you always
got to worry about that.
That's chives and nuts.
You do everything right on a play.
Everyone's covered.
And then he slides out of first down.
And runs for first down on like third and 24.
Like what do we have to do?
Yeah.
I think there's more confidence in one quarterback than the other when things break down and
he's just got to make things on, you know,
makes shit up on the fly.
You like Mahomes.
You worry about Alan a little bit.
Well,
does be a good job of it.
Pretty good yesterday.
Yeah.
And Casey's support.
casting cast isn't what it used to be.
No. It's Mahomes that you're scared of, right? It's not like it used to be with Tyreek and
all these other mega studs like Rashi Rice had a pretty good week, but no one really
scares you in the receiving core that much. Rice is a weird one though. Could he be one of
those guys we're talking about? Not as a Hill, Tyreek Hill superstar level, but he had a pretty
good second half to the season. Yeah. Yeah. I just like you wouldn't put him ahead as digs. That's
kind of my point, right? Like, he's turned into their best receiver, but I mean, he's not,
you put him on a lot of other teams, either second or third best threat. Um, going to be great.
And Kelsey has been good, but not quite as good as you're used to seeing. Yeah. It feels like
Mahomes is going to have to pull rabbit out of his hat. They can't just show up and win here.
Red feels good about it, Ryan. He feels good. He figures he got, got their number. Yeah.
Got him figured out. Good game. And,
Oh, my kid cannot stop coughing.
We did the math.
We figured he's coughing 7,000 times in the day.
Oh, God.
Is that like every three seconds?
What is the math on that?
We were doing three coughs.
Every time there's a cough, there's three coughs.
And it's at least three times a minute.
So we were,
it's nine a minute.
Jesus.
When that,
when shit gets into your lungs as deep as it does when you get that sick,
it takes a long time for all that stuff.
to get out of there.
Your chest just rattles with every breath.
Poor guy.
What do you got going on over there?
So Ray's sick.
Everybody in your house is sick.
I thought you,
have you got like one of those tents around your house yet?
Oh,
the,
the,
general conversation,
reason that we're,
uh,
we're having such a massive flu season,
bugs and bad,
bad viruses season,
respiratory stuff is the fact that it didn't cool off fast enough.
We didn't have a cold.
snap and everything stayed alive.
We need some cold weather.
That's what we're getting now.
We're in gray shape up here, Dino.
Kill off some of those bugs.
Yeah, it's been killed.
Everything's dead.
Yeah.
Everything's dead.
Hope it didn't like wildlife.
That's all dead now.
Minus 40 for two weeks.
Pine beetles or spruce beetles, whatever those get killed on.
That's what you need.
A long cold snow.
That's right.
That's right.
Well, while we're talking about football, we can look at our betway bets.
Good.
Going back to last week.
Now, when did Rhett get his football picks in?
Uh, between, yeah, yeah, before the Monday games, but after the Sunday games, interestingly.
No, Saturday night.
You go with something on making an amendment, though.
I should have been allowed to make an amendment because, because, because, because one of the games was already over.
It was already over.
Right.
You got the bills at nine and a half.
Be happy your bills won.
Did you know that the game was over?
I did and I just sent it thinking that they would be kind to me and go, listen,
this game's already over, you know, pick something else.
But if I had it picked on Friday, I went with the DAC attack.
You were being honest.
I appreciate it, Red.
This was not a greasy snake move.
I was expecting otherwise.
Yeah.
So you had Dallas.
They, of course, did not cover the lions.
got it done, but that was what, one point, right?
One point, not enough.
Yep.
Not enough.
And the bills, cruise.
Sorry, Jack.
So, wrecked with a one for three kind of week.
Had the Texans, it sucked because by the time I got to Vegas, the game had started.
So I couldn't get to the sports book in time.
I just, that one felt like the most easy to say in hindsight.
That was the one I was most felt the most.
felt the most confident in.
How do you go from the best defense in the NFL
to whatever the hell happened to Cleveland on Saturday?
How?
That's, we talked earlier.
That's the one I was blown away by.
CJ Stroud is impressive.
Anyway, so Houston covers the plus two,
the Rams,
lose but cover the plus three,
and I was on the wrong end, retro.
So I deserve it.
A kick in the junk.
I had Pittsburgh covering nine and a half.
I thought snow, cold.
Maybe the Steelers can run,
the ball a bit, keep it within a touchdown or so?
No.
I just don't understand people thinking that snow and cold is going to affect the bills.
Like, that's what they live in it.
Yeah.
It was a team like Miami coming up that there would be an advantage for the bills.
That's probably more of the angle people were going that of all the teams to be scared by
cold weather.
Of course not Buffalo, but neither Pittsburgh.
Hey, so bad against the bills at your own peril.
I know.
At your own peril.
That's right.
So there you go.
I go two for three.
Pinder.
Did not have a good one.
Oh, boy.
Those two teams lost by a combined.
I did the math, a thousand points.
So that's not good for me.
We did have the Rams.
Thank you, Matt Stafford.
Man, one red zone.
Trip ending in a touchdown would have won that game for them.
They were close there.
I was really impressed with the Rams.
It was a good game.
Yeah, that's probably the best we saw, wasn't it?
It was not the Eagles Buccaneers, that's for sure.
Yeah, we had more blowouts than I think.
we expected or wanted a wild card weekend.
There was not a lot of,
uh,
last few minutes who wants to win the game.
Was it last year the year before where every game was like down to the wire?
Yeah.
Oh, sure.
Jackie boy.
Hmm.
Weird.
Tough week, fellas.
I can't believe I bought into the Cleveland bullshit.
They're crushing Cleveland all year and then finally playoffs.
Yeah, like Cleveland.
Poor Jack.
How did you buy in, Jack?
I don't know.
Like Ryan said, their defense was so good.
Houston, like, great season, but they're missing some guys.
Like, CJ Stroud is, I didn't think he was this good already.
Like, he might be a top seven guy.
Jeez.
Did you fall in love with Flacco?
Did you fall for Flacco?
No, it's, I think we're on the same page.
It's like, you could understand Flacco having a bad game and them still winning because of that defense.
We watched them win all kinds of games this year with horrible quarterbacking and unbelievable defense.
but they allowed what 50 some points what they went months without allowing that many points
but you had you were high on cj the whole year yes you try to trade for him um from fantasy
from me the whole season so you obviously saw something in him that's correct and you wouldn't
trade him that's also correct you wouldn't you wouldn't play him either but you wouldn't trade him
that is correct.
Prick.
So anyway,
congrats on your one for three this week.
And of course,
you had to take the Steelers.
And hey,
that's a good,
maybe that was the easy one.
No one had a lot of faith
in Philly going into the weekend,
but you had Tampa to cover,
the plus three.
Well done.
Nice pull.
Nice pull.
It's some of the best time of the year.
If you're not on the Betway app,
I don't know what you're doing.
Get the Betway app on your phone.
Play along.
You can go on your desktop or whatever,
but get into Betway.
Games already started, don't matter.
Get in there, get the in-play stuff.
You like football, you like baseball.
You like, whatever it is.
I was, I said, you keep, you keep scrolling.
They got like a little thing where you go through all the sports.
You'll be doing this for a long time.
It's like, darts, ricket.
It's all there.
You're being a handball.
Yeah.
That's right.
Betway, bet the responsible way with our buddies over at Bedway.
who's uh what's the line for tonight's hockey game i haven't taken a look see uh flames are minus
165 before the goaltending news on that way uh yes yes yes we will see how much that's moved you go
from markstrom to somebody else that should wiggle a bit there you go there you go um
i assume that's probably somewhere on the menu with door dash for tonight but i will uh will get
into it with door dash and i would think especially when it's been as cold as it has been
in Calgary, this is what DoorDash has been,
this is what it's built for. This is what it's been
born to do. Restaurants,
groceries, pharmacies, bakeries,
flower shops and more. DoorDash has everything
that you need. And for a limited
time, our listeners get 25%
off and zero delivery fees on your first
order of $15 or more
when you download the DoorDash app
and enter promo code Nation 25.
promo code Nation 25.
Gets you that order. Now, it's got to be your first order, but even
beyond that, you know, like you said before,
You guys do the DoorDash thing.
You support it.
They say, hey, there's a lot of these Nation 25 things coming.
Maybe we should throw them another special.
Maybe we should give them another nice little deal here.
What's on the menu for DoorDash?
Fellas, were you going to Alberta doubleheader?
And if you like yelling and being angry and booing, have I got something for you?
It's the Leafs at the Oilers tonight at 7 o'clock.
Yeah.
Why something?
I spoke to someone today that said,
I'm somehow going to this game and I hate both.
these teams. What am I supposed to do both
who both sides? The answer is yeah.
Every goal is good and bad.
Yeah. Every save is good and bad.
Just don't be a three point game. That's what you're
turning for? I don't know. That's a tough spot.
I don't really. Yeah. Tees and peace.
7 o'clock also in Calgary, the Scottish bank saddle dome.
It's coyotes and flames. Flames.
Still minus 160 on the bet way up.
Interesting. And I got one for
the better half here.
What? Loves her tennis.
We are in major season.
Canadian, Lela Annie Fernandez in action 5 p.m.
tonight against American Alicia Parks.
It's the round of 64 at the Aussie Open in Melbourne.
That's what's on the menu, Dane.
For DoorDash.
Don't forget, promo code nation 25.
For 25% off your first order with DoorDash offer valid in Canada,
subject to change terms apply.
Dash that for the win with DoorDash.
That's how it goes right there.
What's up for the rest of the day?
They're retro.
Sick kids.
Coughing children.
I think their practice is still on as of right now,
but it's,
they're monitoring the situation.
Lots of snow on the way still.
Now,
are we supposed to get snow here too in Calgary?
A little bit.
I saw something like they were,
hey, uh, major.
Bad news on Friday, too.
Friday was looking really nice in Jasper and,
oh, no.
It looks like Saturday's going to be.
really nice and Jasper.
Looks like we get 10 centimeters tomorrow here.
Do you know?
How about that?
That's a little bit of snow.
It's a bit.
It's a bit of snow.
But we can't bitch because it's been really nice.
Weather wise until now.
That's what I keep hearing.
Well, you can't complain on Thursday.
I don't know what anyone out.
We'd be whining about anything.
Yeah, I was hot.
I got kind of like a little sun on the side of my face there.
It's busy in Vegas team.
Uh,
I guess so.
You know, it's just kind of always busy.
Yeah, always busy.
Yeah, I've never been there in like July,
August.
That would be the counterpoint.
I don't know that I've ever seen it.
It's just generally busy outside the summer, right?
Hot, real hot.
It's in the desert.
Is that right?
Yeah.
Yeah, which is kind of an odd place to alter a person like that just to pop up,
you know, in the middle of nowhere,
just barren land.
And then all of a sudden this haven.
of sex and gambling.
Whoa.
How was your trip?
A trip was good.
Yeah.
Did you go two for two there or what?
No,
everything was,
everything was all right.
I do,
I talked about this.
There's something about the sports book.
It's like being at the game
because there's so many fans,
either their favorite team is playing
or they've got money riding on what's going on.
Yeah.
So the first touchdown is a big deal.
Yeah.
The kick on.
It's all. It's everybody's into it.
So coming to the end of the quarter like, I need three more points.
I got to hit this field goal. Come on, you sucker.
Yeah.
Good times.
And you know what?
No violence.
Which.
Fighting in the stands.
Dare you tell us which sports book you went to?
Did you stay at the casino we're at?
Did you travel around a bit?
What are you looking for in a sports book?
Oh, it's, they're all kind of good.
I ended up, uh, the, was it Saturday?
Right.
Yeah.
Saturday.
I was at Caesars.
Oh yeah.
It's a big one.
I like Cesar's.
Just feels like that's.
Classic Vegas. And then the Mirage on Sunday. Did okay. Did okay.
What's the purple hotel? Everything's purple. The hanging jewels everywhere. Is it Cosmo?
That's the cosmopolitan. Because they got the secret pizza joint in the back of their sports.
That's a move right there. Big old slice, New York triangle. That's what they call it.
Secret pizza. There's no signage. Just a long hallway. You never know where, you know. Well, that's one way up top. Yeah. Yeah. You're right.
Yeah.
Okay.
Ha.
I'm thinking a planet of Hollywood.
They got a pizza place,
like literally open a door behind the book.
But yeah,
lots of pizza.
We're up to something.
We got something coming.
Oh.
Mm-hmm.
We did the trip to Phoenix.
We were talking with that for a couple of months.
Now that that is come and gone,
it's time for us to start planning something new.
Is it a trip?
I don't want to say.
Is it an event it could be?
Is it just,
you know,
is it involve everybody?
A few people?
Is it involved booze?
It can.
It can if that's kind of your choice.
It doesn't have to, but it can be.
But we have another little something coming on the radar for late February.
We'll have some details coming up, if not later this week than into next week.
But it'll be another one of those things where it's kind of a, let's see, it says this select number.
Certain number.
We are hopeful, fingers crossed that it will be.
sold out whatever it is.
So be ready for some details.
We'll give you the more immediate heads up on social media and on the show.
But we're excited to get things moving again for another event with the old barn burner
show.
I like that.
Rett's confused, I think.
Look at him.
You know what he did?
He furrowed his brow.
He did have a furrowed brow.
It's a furrow.
Now it's more of a grimace, but yeah.
it'll be great i'm sure that kind of positivity how would we be denied
cool that's those are your hats yeah yeah it took for good
red along with everybody else we'll get the news will be filled in on what the hell it is
i'm talking about i can't wait at some point just check my socials that i don't have or
no just we'll do it on the show just stay tuned red yeah we'll do it on the show just keep doing
the show with us uh before we go thoughts on tonight's game what do we think we just saw
in firsthand viewing of the coyotes in flames
just a few short days ago.
Beatable.
You know what the coyotes are excited about,
Redd facing not Jacob Markstrom.
That's where my focus will be tonight.
Who plays? How do they look?
It's got to be Vlodar, right?
I think so, but we don't know at this point.
I'll check them, see if there's any news dropped
since we started, but it's not like you're flying him in from Stockton,
but Lidar it has been a while and he's been around it.
Yeah.
I'm kind of leaning in Lidar if I'm guessing.
Yeah, I would lean towards Vladar too, but I don't care.
Yeah, I don't care either.
It's not Jacob Markstrom again is the exciting development for the coyotes.
Too bad for Jake.
Been playing so well.
And the team.
The team's been playing so well.
We were debating that even as we were walking because we went and had some drinks there before the game.
The devil's advocate.
Everybody was so what?
do we want to win tonight?
What's the mood?
Because the fans, like, I don't know how to feel.
It's like, let's take a, have them win tonight because we're there and it'll be more fun,
cheering goals and that.
And then you can lose in Vegas.
And then the flames they heard and then scored 20 seconds in.
