Hiya buddies. Welcome to the Friday edition of Armburner. What a great day. It's okay. Yeah, I mean, sunny. It's more beautiful. We're poolside here in North Scottsdale. It's gorgeous. Yeah. You know what this whole thing is? What's it? Right now. Yeah. This is a dick move. This is the ultimate. What are you talking about? I mean, people would want us to be having fun, right? I think so. We invited everyone to come on the trip. This wasn't an experience. exclusive event. We said anyone that wants to come on the bombarding could do it. And especially with us, we don't subscribe to the

Chauden Freud where we take pleasure and other people's misfortune. We wouldn't do that. No. We absolutely wouldn't do that. But I do understand it's a bit nippy back in Calgary. Well, I'm sure that that's great for ice making and stuff. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I just hope everyone's having a great day, do you. That's really well. Yeah, having a great day. I mean, what a time we've had. We got to, we got here in in Phoenix yesterday afternoon. And, It's been glorious ever since.

Yeah. Really, things have been great. We talked about this first barmeurification. There will be more. We are going to try to make you a little bit jealous so you join the next one. Yeah. And it was like, I was pushing. Like, we got to do Mullet Arena.

We got to do Mullet Arena. Because we just didn't, we don't know how long is going to last. Like they might get Atlanta thrashed overnight this summer to the Winnipeg Jets. Like, it's an analogy, right? Like, there was no announcement. What was it? Stephen Brunt moved him back to Winnipeg. Yeah, Brunt did it.

We'll have to check in with Brunt and see how he feels about Phoenix. We don't want to, you know, don't want to be at the Midnight Express. They just throw the keys on anyway. But point being, it's a unique experience that might not be there much longer. And we plan this just so everyone knows, like you say, the next vacation. We don't know when. We don't know where it's going to be. But the whole minus 40 coldest ever planes are, it was all part of our master plan that you'd really want to come on this trip.

Because you never know what's going to happen if you miss out. So we are here in front of a live studio. audience. We are poolside in in Scottsdale. It's our outdoor set. Yeah. Apparently, some things went sideways on a few people last night. I don't know how many stories we can tell here. Be careful people. Multiple credit cards got locked. There are gentlemen who don't know how they're going to get home without credit cards. One, we had one guy. It was a five mile walk. Yes, right. After the credit card locked up. Another guy didn't know where the hotel was or what's didn't know. Yeah, didn't know what the name of the hotel was.

He was hooped for a while. One guy woke up this morning. He had been busted wide open somehow last night. I saw him this morning. He had the, he had this black mark on it. Oh, did he get a piercing last night? He's got like a bar into his, into his eyebrow. No, no, no.

It's a big scab. Oh, so it can happen. Hey, listen, that's why we sign waivers. This is the barn animal. It's why we've got Peter Klein. It's why we've got Peter Klein and McLeod Law on the trip. It's why we have waivers. For this, for just this sort of thing.

Now, we woke up this morning and we were getting ready for the show here, poolside. And it was, okay, so we've got, you're alive. And that was my main concern. It was you after last night, high kicks and all that sort of thing. It was a Thursday, right? So, yeah, it's typical Thursday. So we got, where's Warner?

Warner's at knocking his door, no answer. Do we know where Red is? Yeah. And we found out where Red is. He sent this photo, middle seat, I guess. I guess flying I can only assume back to Buffalo towards Buffalo I don't understand

why you would leave this to go to Buffalo but there seems to be our buddy who is no longer with us and that was he was here right before we went to the rank and then you guys ducked out after the club last night I was gonna want to give him a big hug and wish him safe travel

and put the middle seat knees against the seat in front of you yeah so how did your night end getting back to the hotel at three something and then immediately getting out of an Uber, ordering an Uber, getting the same Uber and going out for pizza. I found a place. So you Uber to the hotel. There was a bunch of us. Pivoted, ordered another Uber.

Same guy. Same guy to go and get pizza and then come back. I found a pizza place open until four and I was like, I'm too hungry. I'm not, I can't go into the old hotel pantry there at the front. I need some pizza. Did the pizza pangs not hit you before you got to the hotel? Did you not anticipate? It was a group thing and it wasn't on the way.

And everyone was hustling home and, you know, being the considerate fellow I am, I just thought, let's get everyone tucked in. And then I can selfishly take care of my hunger pangs. Do we know who was? Who had the five mile walk last night? Who walked five? Who was it? We don't need names just as you hear.

One sleeping. You know. He's busy. You put in 10 miles to walk till 5 a.m. It's a lot of steps. Yeah. It's a lot of steps. So I think everyone's alive though

I was worried about Rhett but then he's on a plane So I think have we done a headcount? The head counts are going to get really tough Because a lot of guys are bailing on the back end Yeah, I know Right to Vegas. They see the weather and they're like We're, see, hear this? Make some noise if you're going to Vegas.

It's just it's responsible. We don't know what's going We understand flights are canceled back in Calgary You wouldn't want to get stranded somewhere You may as well just stay where you know it's safe And Vegas is the safest place you could That's what I've been told, yeah That's what they say about Vegas for sure

There's no trouble to get into it all Yeah Get somewhere safer than Scottsdale Head to Vegas So I think we covered everything The busted open blood Credit card Well, there's a few other incidents

Now what happens with the credit cards How does the banks just arbitrarily Shut things down? I just think they know who the shady people are When the shady people start trying to ring up 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 grand It's like, no, no, no, no You're done here.

Yeah Wow, okay. I mean, I don't know. When I just have a cash policy at certain establishments. It's just easier to get things done. You know, it's bad when the bank, the bank raises its eyebrows and said, we may need to lock this thing down. This is escalating quickly.

Now, you were getting, did your phone, not saying any names, but your bank called you, your bank called your phone and said there's something shady going on. Yo, what is going on? Is this you? We think this is fraud. Yeah. Banks today, you know? I mean, well, and then we didn't even mention it.

One of the other guys was waiting outside of an establishment for the taxi home. And, well, he just wasn't feeling so hot and puked all over. Oh, come on. No, no, no, no. And then the taxi guy in the dorm, who did this? You know, could happen anybody. What do you mean? It was here when I was here.

I'm just, I hate when people get overseas. served. That's what it comes down to. I hate to see it. You hate to see it. This is all cryptic. What's going on? Not sure, but it looked like they were having a hell of a time last night. They were? Yeah. It was, and I give his daughter, Madeline, credit. It's a very dude heavy group. It is. Fit right in. No, sweat. Now that said, Peter did say, and I don't want to speak out of school. He did say,

I'm so glad I didn't bring my son. My daughter's my favorite. I'm so glad I didn't bring my son. And you know what? It's just his kids are so big. It's the tight seats in the airplane. Yeah, yeah. McLeod Law. Opening statements. Last night, we get to the Mullet Arena here in, I guess, you know, nearby. Let's call it Phoenix. Tempe. Tempe. And we didn't know what to expect. We knew it was the small arena.

It was the Arizona State. Hockey team plays out of there. It is a great rink. For the college team to plays there, it's beautiful. Perfect. And for this environment, we knew we were coming into a small arena. It was going to be crazy to see NHL hockey in this building. I still wasn't prepared for it, right?

It was, it was amazing. You could have, and the thing is you could have row three, row five seats at the dome or somewhere else. And you'll be very close to the action. It still doesn't give you an appreciation for what this environment is. It's basically watching NHL hockey in a junior rink where that energy in the building. is just, it is so much a part of the game. I mean, I think for the flames specifically, with the number of red jerseys that were down here last night,

like there was a palpable energy. And I'm just thinking back to Glendale, how dead it would have been, you know, maybe 10,000 people scattered in an arena that's way bigger and just cavernous and quiet. Yeah. And you, you transform that into this rowdy, raucous college environment. It's cool, really, really cool.

Very cool. And we've talked a lot about, Do you, oh, come on, buddy. Really? What the age? Oh, well. This guy's going to need a lawyer. Hey, RJ, that's fine.

It's fine. Is it? Who the hell are we? Guys got a job to do. Do you want wins? Do you want losses? And we were even talking about that last night. It's like, oh, you know, do you want points?

Are you going to be, what are you going to be doing? We are on the interweb. And I think everybody kind of said, you know what? Let's get a win tonight. Let's have so fun. You know, rebuild, reload, whatever. You know, let's get a win tonight. And Backland scores early.

And then it was two nothing. And then it was three nothing. We couldn't have asked for a better environment last night. Best period of the season for the flames. It was maybe in doubt for a little bit there when the coyotes scored a couple and things got tight. But really, I don't think anybody, if you were a flames fan, was too concerned about the outcome of the game being a flames win last night. It was a fun night for everybody that was on this trip. And it was, you know, we had the Bronx cheer going for Vemelka after because he was, yeah, there we are.

Yeah, we got on the goalie. We got on just about everybody. Got on the goalie. Yeah, got on the Oilers fans that showed up in Orange. What are you doing? Yeah, oiler fans. The Oilers suck chance for the last half of the third period, was spectacular. No, I think it was earlier this week.

I brought it up to you guys on the show. Is it realistic to expect the line of Lindholm, Sharon Govich and Huberto to provide some meaningful offense moving forward. Because you can have good stretches. You can have a five or even 10 games. And in fairness, that's kind of where they're at right now. But as you're watching these guys kind of play together, and it's weird because we always talk about pairings.

Yeah. Is it Lindholm, Lindholm and Sharon Govich? It looks like Huberto and Sharon Govich right now. Because those two have been on the same page, playmaking-wise, for a number of games now. And it's funny because that was the now. As soon as that trade was made, you were like, oh, yeah, put Hubertow with Lindholm and Sharon Govich. That was the summer lines.

That's how you would have drawn them up. That's where they started in camp, if I'm correct. And there's a lot of tools that Sharon Govich has that are similar to Anthony Duclair, who played on the opposite wing of Huberto for that monster year two years ago. Play with great pace, heavy shot, maybe not like super high hockey IQ, but great shot, great pace. And that was worked for Huberto and it's like, why isn't it working here? And then finally, as we get into December.

remember it is working. Sharon Govich, 17 goals now, up to 30 points. Remember, he had one goal in his first 10 games. Yeah, fourth line for a while. And he's, he's, you know what, Mike Camilleri was one of the guys that you could tell. Now, there's, he's got pure goal scoring ability. When he shoots it, he doesn't shoot it into the goalie.

He doesn't miss the net. It's right where it needs to be. And sometimes you have a lot of time and you're able to pick that spot. It feels to me like Sharon Govich, I feel like he's got that natural gore goal scoring ability. Yeah. Because that puck is going where it needs to go and in a hurry. We saw it early.

He had great velocity, a great shot. But he's also able to pick a spot a little bit. Now, I just think there's maybe a lot more here than what we thought when this trade was well, remember we were in Nashville when the trade went down. We were there for the draft. It was the night before the draft that it was to folio,

a third rounder and Sharon Govich come to Calgary. And you're like, you're looking at the hockey card and you're like, how does this guy in a second year in the league have like 24? Yeah. and then drop all the way down to like, what, 12 or 13? And you're like, okay, well, so if he is high up the lineup and he is with Jack Hughes, this guy, like, you'd think he could put him down for 30, almost 25 his second year.

And then you're like, what the heck's happening here? It goes down the lineup he's not scoring. So you knew there were some tools. You knew there were some finishing ability, but it was a bit of like, how does that happen? And where is he going to work? And I guess Jersey being as deep as they are, he slid down the line of a bit, fell out of favor. A touch wasn't on PowerPlay units. That's hard to envision on this team,

him not playing top two lines and not power play. They would have their own younger guys. You get passed over. To some extent, it's happened here, right? Dylan Dubay has been a victim of that. But,

you know, Darren Haynes, this morning on Twitter, he reposted the flames going back to last year, the trade post, the trade tweet. We made a trade.

It's a foley for a third ride. And it was like, just read the replies, read the comments. And everybody absolutely crucified Conroy and crushed him for this trade. I don't think we were huge fans of it either at the time. I just remember seeing who this guy was, but third round pick.

How you feel about the trade, it's how you feel about Sharon Goldwich, and we didn't know a lot. You know, I thought it was Siegenthallor at first glance and like, yes and a bunch of letters. Like, you only see Jersey twice a year. So it was a great unknown. And I think even for the flames, who have liked him for a while, I still think there was a great element of like, okay, there's a lot of ceiling, but maybe like, it is a bit of a swing they took and it's it's been great.

The shame now is, I think he's a you after next year. But hey, you win the trade. Yeah. Like he's great. Was he passed to Foley now? He was at 17? There, you know, I think he's. Because you had three last.

Yeah. I mean, striking distance, he had to be, he's got to be there ahead. Never mind the third. Never mind one more year of team control. Yeah. Never mind the lower salary. Ten years younger. Yeah.

And as great as the folly has was as a flame and has been, you know, you look at the stops in Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary. Now Jersey. like he's great. This team needed some pace as well. And there's a massive, massive change in pace from Tofoli to Sharon Govich. He can fly. So he's feeling it. That line is feeling it.

Blake Coleman continues to roll. We were talking, was he on pace, was he going to eight points tonight? Nine points? What's he going to get? He just started rolling. Nine point Blake. He's up to 18 goals now. Jeez.

Like a 30 goal season for him is absolutely within reach. Well, I mean, he needs to really kind of continue with this. pace on. He's on page 36, like 35. That's what I'm saying. He only needs 12 and half a season. 22 in his last 17. And Manjapani didn't really factory in a ton last night, but he's more at home on that

backland line. Yeah. The other, the Lend home line looks just fine. We've been very happy with Zeri. On, the way it's been, the cadre line's been very good on, and now on nights when maybe they're not at their best, all of a sudden, Sharon Govich and that three, they're rolling. And if not, then maybe all of a sudden you're looking at Backman's line and they're coming through for you.

It's weird to think. Production you're getting from Coleman? They've got real balance right now. And I don't, I honestly, I don't know how sustainable it is. I said this yesterday. It just feels like you're at max. You're at peak performance right now. I don't know how realistic it is that it can continue, but it doesn't, it doesn't feel like you're in some sort of a tight window where everything's just going to fall apart.

A few guys would have to start playing poorly for it to go away. also have a few guys that can come and contribute. Like, I think we're going to see a lot of Jacob Peltche in the second half. I think we're going to see Coronado at some point. He's tearing apart the HL. Like, there's also reasons to think there could be more. So. The screen went black.

positive vibes you think about the positivity and I was texting with somebody from the team last night and I just said amazing dad's trip a bunch of goals last night everyone's feeling good

big win Shillington back in the ice the positive vibes backland hitting that second game. That was a big one. There's a lot to feel good about right now. This group's happy right now, Dean.

Think about where they were a year ago. Young kids are allowed to play. They're allowed to make mistakes. Guys are allowed to feel good about victories. It's okay not to, you know, want to dig a hole and crawl into it if they lose. It's not all about positive. It's just,

but there's something I feel like what a lot of people expected with the loosening of the vice that you had under Darrell, that in the right scenario, you could see these guys flourish and make the most of it. And I think you're kind of seeing that right now. And it's not to take a shot at Darrell, but I just don't know if you would have this same environment. I agree. 100%.

It looked like a group that didn't want to come to the rink last year for the last few months. That is the exact opposite of the vibes that you get from this group. You see the videos that are on the flame social media where, you know, Backlund's kids announced in the starting line, the dads are all around. Like, these guys are genuinely loving. coming to the rink that was not at all what was happening last year this time so there you go that's i mean that's the opening statements i guess there's not a lot to not a lot to pick out now did you see

we had a kevin weeks bomb today i heard there was a weeks bomb um now i don't know if it's a week's bomb because weeks he'll he will have the odd weeks bomb where he's comes on and he's got you know half of his head showing and he kind of lists oh i'm hearing this there you see it it's his tweet it's just a shot of Jacob Markstrom and then just kind of an eyeball. So now is, is he trying to stir up stuff? Say, hey, look at Jacob Marks and look how good he is. Maybe. Is he saying, oh, look, this could be a guy. Who knows? But we've talked a lot about it. Is this, is there a possibility? He's obviously playing great. He was great again last night. Yeah. Um, they would, they would give a hall. You might be able to the Kings ransom here. You might. And I just think of a year ago, you would have

got nothing, you might have had to put something with him to get rid of him because he was playing so poorly and there's a lot of term left on that. But when he's this good, like he's going to get Vesna votes this year. That's it. That is a game changing player for a year where there's a lot of teams that need goaltending. Like Jersey's got massive goaltending issues. Toronto, goaltending issues, Carolina, goaltending issues. Do the LA Kings believe Camtell but is going to be able to sustain this? On Phoenix Copley is hurt. He's done. They are red-backing up there. And you know what?

And I saw that Kachetkov is out indefinitely now. He's concussed with Carolina. Yeah. I think both New Jersey and Carolina have to be looking at where they're at. And probably more Carolina because I think on their back end, is it Slavin that's a UFA at the -Kashi and-E-E-A-Kesh-Ey, I think? They've been so close. They've been knocking at the door.

Anderson is not healthy. Kachetkoff is injured again. So I can't help. It's been down to the miners and he's their guy? It's the one glaring need that they have. And you couldn't want for more. I don't know how you, I don't know what a deal would look like. Anyway, that's, that was put out there by Kevin Weeks.

It could be nothing. It could be something. But it's, it's always interesting when we have, we'll have conversations because we cover the local team and all that. Then when the outside start to kind of raise, you know, what's going on over the fence here? Yeah. I wonder if that's going to be, as we are here in, what, mid-January, less than two weeks or two months from the trade deadline.

Yeah. If Markstrom's name might be rising up those trade boards. Yeah, well, we'll talk with Frank on Monday, and we'll talk about just that with him, because I think it is becoming more, it's not just a hot run now, right? Like, this is looking like a very, very good season. If you flush those first 10 games where everyone was horseshit, like he's been exceptional from that point forth, like second in the league and goal save above expected by some data places. Like, that's impressive stuff.

And it's no disrespect, but there's not a lot of Norris candidates on that back in. It's D. Simone. There's a lot of two-three, but yeah, it's the third. pair has been rough since they moved Zadora for sure. Gilbert back skating, so that's good news for him. Yeah. He took that big clunk about a week ago, so that's obviously good. But it's,

flames are in, again, and even if you're on team tank or you want, they're not gaining a ton of ground. Their points percentage, they're still behind Arizona. There's, you know what I thought, not as low as you'd want, but it's not like they're, that they're knocking right on the door of a wild card spot. The other thing, too, is, like, Frank, said it the other day and there's the

standings right there. There are 512 points percentage. Look at the teams they're going to have to be better than. Can they be better than Nashville? Well, yeah, I think they can be. Can they better than Seattle? Sure. St. Louis, okay. Arizona they looked significantly better last night. You'll see them again next week in Calgary.

Arizona has to look better than they did last night. That was not their best. And Minnesota, you know, they had more money spent on injuries and buyouts than their active roster when the flames play them. They're dinged up badly. They're missing Caprizov right now. Could you be better than that whole group? And it's like, I think everyone's keen to get a high pick,

but you also at the same time could say, yeah, there is a scenario where the flames could get that eighth playoff spot because there's seven teams they're not catching. They're not going to catch Emmington. They're not going to catch Vancouver, L.A. Vegas. They're not going to catch. They can't go in through the central. It's one of those teams we just talked about.

It's going to get in. One of those teams is not good, but they're going to get in the playoffs. You know what I mean? Whether that's St. Louis or Minnesota, Arizona, Nashville. They're in that group. They're that kind of team. It could be them as weird as it sounds. And all teams will have great runs.

And I feel like the flames are on one of those runs, although they did lose a couple, not that long ago. It feels on a bigger and not to get overly romantic about it, but it does feel like there's some sort of a foundation being built here moving forward about how young players can fit in, how elite. You're allowed, you're allowed to grow, you're allowed to make mistakes. You're allowed to feel good. You're allowed to feel crappy, that whole thing.

It just feels like there's a chance to build something here for, Conroy and Aginla and Huska and everybody. The dream is that you can be competitive and reload on the fly. And it doesn't have to be this dark, deep trough, right? And it's not impossible, but it's incredibly difficult. You're starting to see maybe they can find a way to do this, right? And maybe you don't have to bottom out to get that star. Maybe it's a trade that brings in a first that allows you to select another zeri type player, right?

Because he's what, 25 to 30, or 20 to 30 pick? Like that's the type of first rounder you're going to get if you're trading any of these guys. Yeah. Didn't see it coming. I didn't. We were sure we'd have clarity by Christmas. And here we are like three weeks removed. It's maybe murkier.

Totally is. Yeah. It could be murkier than it was. It is. Yeah. And they've played that tough portion of their schedule. They don't get blown out. They're not, they don't get their show run.

They've had two bad games since that opening, since the outdoor game where everything was brutal. They got pumped at home by Minnesota. And the Chicago game. game on the road was dog shit they're every other game they're in even if they're losing they're competitive i don't remember the tone and it was some of it was us most of it was us because we watched that game and then did after burner after the outdoor game oh we did a live stream and then after we're talking about that show like this is going to be this is going to be a friggin nightmare yeah of a season covering this team and doing it post game show said just go my god um and then zary and

and the team just started to come around rules this is why we love sport man we'll see what Because the Golden Knights are not playing particularly well right now either. Just get the dads and get the dads around. Keep the dads full times. Sorry moms. No more mom's trips. We've been on mom's trips. We've seen how it goes.

Yeah, they got blown out in Vegas. No good. No good. Johnny and the fellows are too worried about their moms out at the club. Maybe. They're focused on hockey. Can you not go to Sapphire, please. Mom.
