See, I think there's a difference to be a weatherman and a meteorologist. You know what? It was Julian McKenzie, wasn't it? We've done a bunch of long form chats. And Julian covered the flames for the athletic for a couple seasons here. He's now in Ottawa and the senators beat. does a podcast, Chris Johnson. And part of his coming up through media

was working at like CBC and Montreal at one point. He was writing about the habs on a website. And they're like, hey, weatherman's on vacation. You want to come do some weather for the summer? He's like, what? So he literally had to do the weather. I didn't know what he's talking about. But there are, some of them are just like hot chicks

and miniskirts doing the pointing on the screen. And other people. Yes, very popular. Right at the very top of my list of. Yeah. She's nailed that five-day forecast. But there are also meteorologists. When I worked at A Channel back of the day, like Dar McPoole was the man.

Remember Dar? I don't know the name. He was like a legend. And he was like major major science weather meteorologist. You go by his little workstation. You have all these maps and like looking at like different weather centers and winds and barometric pressure. And you're like, that's a meteorologist.

Someone just reading a website and being like, oh yeah, high at 25 tomorrow chance of showers. That's not a meteor. That's not. Okay. I got a backwards. Well, it's just that if you're just trying to TV. So maybe it is the meteorologists that are behind the schools. The weathermen are.

They're controlling the weather. They are innocent. You weathermen, you keep up a great job. Yeah, meteorologists, you guys. We're on to you. And by the way, since you can control the weather, like go put out the forest fires. How about you control it? Yeah.

When I grew up, Folk Fest in Saskatoon was different venues had different.

countries with their food and entertainment. So you went to the Irish. Cultural events. Yes, it was a cultural. Yeah. The one here, I think I've been once or twice. And typically it's like a bunch of different acts.

It's all music. Everyone lays out their picnic blankets and gets banged up and, you know, people in downtown condos moan about the sound. And you're like, okay, that's, that's folk fest.

Maybe there's the same thing where they're different. Maybe there's two festivals. Either way, there's many festivals. Either way, Jack's buggering off. Somewhere warmer and better. You know what he sent me today?

Matthew could chuck to the Florida Panthers with an extension in place. The first sign-in trade we can remember in NHL history. Maybe there's no. The flames will get 115 point left winger, Jonathan Huberto, top pair defenseman McKenzie Weger, prospect, question mark, Cole Schwint. And a first round pick. Pretty good for a guy that demanded a trade. Way to go, tree.

Who, it's a living. And honestly, you know what? Trade grades came out. Everyone weighed in. The flames absolutely fleeced. And I mean fleeced. Florida Panthers. So happy anniversary of that happy day.

That trade was just fine. I remember where I was because it was a crazy day in sports. There was a rodeo in Invermere. They do it once a summer. I think it was last weekend in Invermere. So we're out. We're going to the rodeo. The Blue Jays, it was an absolute bloodbath.

They beat the Red Sox 285. A laffer, 28 runs. Are you kidding me? And then the trade breaks the same day. And I'm watching some guys playing poker at a table with a bull running around. like this is the greatest night of my life. Can't even stand still. I'm just,

ah! Look at the got for a job. The chase got another. This guy just got true. He's getting gourd. That looked like a good deal. And I could even build you the case that was a good deal. It's just what's happened since the deal that it was the over.

Schwint lost on waivers. The first round pick ends up being 32nd, which is the worst pick. Oh. First round pick could be. You can't control that. No, I mean, you could, yeah, he probably can't control that. That's fair. McKenzie Weger, totally fine.

Extension's great. Value deal, been the best defenseman since he got here after, what, three months of settling in or so? It was after Christmas. Yeah, it was a rough first three months. That's fine. You're here for seven, eight, nine years. The first three months, no big deal.

But the other part, the first part, the Jonathan part. You could. It's funny because you go from having a great trade. I really thought that. Well, everyone did. Yeah. And it was. Yeah.

To. And only because I said it at the time. It shouldn't have signed. He were, even the weaker one. I'm like, you could have waited because he wasn't going to go anywhere. And to be fair,

one of them worked very well. The other one has not worked well at all. And so you really went. You hit 500 on the extensions. But the problem is that you didn't need to sign the extensions. At the time, you were trying to prove a point. You rushed to do it. emotional.

It was it was a send a message to the league that people want to be here. And it's like, no, they don't. We got to punch back. Calgary's a place to me. And if you hadn't signed Huberto, you'd have been able to dump him at the deadline for a first easy. So he ended up with two first, weger and of, well, oh, at least. Yeah, yeah, for sure. You get a roster player or first for improv, something like that.

Hey, it's just not a fit with Daryl. Let's get him out of here. Yeah. Didn't go that way. By the way, again, our opening statements from Cloudlaw, Peter Klein. If you're long-term disability insurance people are jerking you around. Get on the horn, call Peter, straighten them out. Get the bulldog.

Practical approach, plain language. You should look at a matter of sky. A couple of years. So the deal. I really like McKenzie Weger. He's the best defenseman. I don't have any problem with the Uighur extension. And I was a big Uyghur guy before he got here.

The nerd numbers always liked him. Echblad's numbers are always better with Uighur than without Uighur. It's not say he's better or worse, but just that he was a very, very nice. piece on a top pair. And nobody could have seen coming what happened to Jonathan Huberto. 115 points like top scoring left winger and like the history of the game or something crazy. And overnight can't replicate that. And everyone's like, yeah, but he was playing with Barkup.

No, he wasn't. Like you got some power play time with him. He spent that year with Anthony Duclair and Sam Bennett. I touched him. his dad was chisling assists in the scoring box something like that i have my one complaint is still my one complaint you made a great trade under the circumstances you were in that was a slam dunk of a trade you didn't need to sign him that like and you can say well you're an idiot and everyone's like no that's a good signing no let them fit do they fit in do they fit in yeah there was they were

contract. And I think, and you weren't going to pay Huberto more, even if it was on a 115 point pace again. That's true. You were paying for the peak. Right. That's right. If there was any sort of regression to the mean or like back to closer to career averages, that wasn't going to cost you more. You basically were paying him for 115 points. You signed. And again, the Uighur one has absolutely worked out whether he's, I don't, he's good. Yeah, good play. And it's, and I can't say, well, you shouldn't signed. I said don't sign either. The reason I said you didn't have to was because it's the same thing with Weger. Weger wasn't

going to play so good or so bad that he was going to go from what you have him at now, what, six and a half to 12. And even if he did, great. There was a narrow band of where by the way, if you want to vent, you can see the comments, bottom right, like by all means, happy anniversary, everyone. So we're here to help

And he's got a really, really mixed bag of hits and misses like most GMs in the league. But it was the first time that, like, there's one outlier of all the things he did here. He never structured a contract, so bonus heavy, so long term. Like, that's a one of one contract he gave out. And that was an emotional response. And when he talked about it, it's like, we got to punch back. Calvary's a place people want to be. We got to prove the, we got to stick up for ourselves.

Like, those are all emotional things. And he was a guy that always talked about, we need to cool off after the year. We can't operate emotionally. We'd take time at the end of the year. It gets the 24-hour rule times two weeks. Take it to a account that Cadro was leaving, too. Well, Cadro had gone, which led to the contract trade request. So you can understand why he was emotional.

But I think if you asked him what the mistake was there, he probably just would have said, I was too emotional. And again, with this organization, we can't really separate the GM from the owner too much in the sense that I wouldn't have been surprised if the, owner was really emotional. Wow. And Johnny left him at the altar at 1159. Yes. Exactly. Like that, I think that was a nasty story. So. Yeah. And the team thought they had it done.

The team did low ball Johnny Goddrow that fall. But he was coming off a weird year. It sucked, man. That, uh, it wasn't. It was a, you look back and it was weird. It's also weird. And we don't take into account COVID. Yeah. And that matters. It really does.

It truly, truly matters. Yeah. And look, if you're a mailman, it might not have mattered as much. But if you're a millionaire athlete, COVID sucked way more in Canada than in this. Way, way, way more. If your parents could, like, yes. Yeah. And so anyway, happy and a, happy anniversary. It's already gray and blew out.

So nobody's happy. Sorry, Jack. Do we know what any of the other offers were? I think there was one from Carol. line that involved NACIS. St. Louis? I don't know. That was always rumored because Kachuk's

from there. But I think there was a list of like three teams at the end. I'd have to go back and peruse what was being said at the time. But it sounded like I remember talking to Trilliving about it. He was just like, look, we had another deal on the table and one was going to get us younger and load us up for the future

longer. And the Florida deal was a win now deal, which would have been great if they won now. Instead, they missed the playoffs. and the Daryl Brad situation got dicey within weeks of the season starting there was already pot shots from the coach towards players

it was clear it Osam Codry was not going to get along with the coach and then you really, it forced you into a heavy retool and it was like Lindholm's looking around saying I don't know if I need to be around for this anymore Haniff and Dido Tanna. That might have just brought out the reality might have been helpful Lindholm is so. Yeah, and here we are.

Now a team that's definitely not great and definitely not really bad, somewhere in the middle there. And word of caution. So with all these GMs or not, it's not even the GM. So when your team tells you how close they are and how much they love the city they're working, and do you remember hearing that? Yeah.

They weren't that good. Oh, I love it here. This is great here. We're a tight room. We're the tight world. We love it. Get me out. You'd sort of set it.

The teams that are, the closest, don't need to tell anyone. You can see. And this group last year was that. They were very, yep. And they didn't talk about it because you didn't need to. Didn't have to. I didn't have to explain. No, I really liked my teammate. Like the 04 team that you played on, the way you played told everyone all you needed to know about how much guys cared for each other. Exactly. You should never have to answer that question.

So we asked the veteran receiver Rhymes about him, his past with Vernon Adams. They both had a monster year in the BC together a couple seasons ago and all that stuff.

So that's coming on. Mission Impossible? Rhymes wasn't in any movies. He plays in the CFL. It's his ninth season, if you include COVID when they didn't play. Yeah. Okay.

I think so her parents were behind they came and ended up being like a big kind of there was like 12 or 13 people at lunch and they all knew this was all kind of through George. Like this is my first time meeting some of them. Parents and everybody seemed great. From what I gathered,

like she just loves golf. And yeah, she's taking lessons and stuff like that, but she loves golf. She goes to the golf course every day. Her older sister played with us on the front nine. We went out in a six ball. Nobody's playing golf. Yeah.

And her older sister's a sophomore at TCU. And she's great, too. Like, don't get me wrong. But yeah, it was, Like I said, I don't think I've ever had that much fun getting my ass kicked on the golf court. Just watching someone else. I'm like, I handed her a $20 bill. She's like, this is the first time I've ever played for money.

I'm like, hey, I'll tell you what, if Whisper Rock ever has like a mixed member guest, you're going to make some money. We might have to delete this off the internet. Yeah, you're killing her amateur status, Mike. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah, it was Canadian 20. That doesn't go.

Yeah, that's not real money. Speaking of member guest, I don't imagine you got up for, you're a member at a golf course in Calgary. I'm sure that those annual dues are fun. Have you played the course this year? Were you with the member guest two weeks ago? You know what? No, I didn't play the golf course.

I actually hit some balls. I stayed right across the street from the course, too, but stampede. I actually saw you, Pender. What? In the F-45. Yeah. I was going to come in and say hi. But the last time I went up there and did, I had an eye appointment again.

You were drunk for the eye appointment. That's right. Last time I did that, I went up there before the eye appointment, ended up having some beers. Long story short, instead of a yearly checkup, it's now six months because my eye pressures are up. And they thought I had glaucoma. You were just drunk. I just had six, six or seven beers in an hour. So this time, I'm like, I can't go up there. And I went to the eye appointment.

Now I'm back. My eye pressures are fine. I'm back on your program, but. Glad to hear it. Yeah, the annual program. Yeah, no, but I didn't play it, unfortunately. I wanted to get out there, but it was just, I brought the dogs up, and I was staying right across the street from right off 17, too.

That was real nice and safe driving around the United States. So got that squared away, thank God. And that was my trip. So the end of it sucked when I found out for the insurance, but everything else was good. So you have dogs, plural. I thought you only had one dog. You guys are growing a family?

And so I'm like,

I think that golf course, for anybody who hasn't been there, if you're ever there,

I haven't been there. I was there like a decade ago. So they, before they hosted that open in 19, that Lowry won. They had to change, I think, the 17th and 18. hole because the 18th hole especially like for an open like the 18th hole was a bad hole uh so i haven't been since they changed that but the rest of the golf course is the same it's a great spot uh yeah i mean what that sheffler i think like you know i've talked i went out with colt and cold nose and stuff and basically if that guy has a decent putting week everybody else is basically playing for second yeah which is like crazy to say like as great as rory's been

I think I'm going to mess the numbers a little bit up this year. But like as great as Rory's been this year, there's been like a small group of guys in the four majors that have made all four cuts. I don't know how many guys, but it wouldn't be that many. Sheffler, his combined score, so he played all the rounds. He's at minus 32.

Second place is Rory minus 11. Jeez. She's lap in the field. This is nuts. That is dominating. It's funny because he's got, like tiger levels of dominance and obviously he's going to have to sustain it longer but i mean his peak right now is as good as anyone's ever looked in golf but he's nothing like tiger like

this guy is no inched in the limelight he he doesn't really all he wants to do is hang out with his kids like he's he's he's a different cat and it's like fame not interested and that's really weird in today's society to be the best of your sport and not want the limelight at all yeah it is for sure and i think like uh you know like i said i listen to pGA tour radio quite a bit so i hear this and I watch, I pay attention. But, you know, I think, like, that Jordan Speeth kind of, they asked him about it. And he kind of touched on it. It's like, he's not interested.

He wants to play golf. And, like, I guess, you know, he comes across. I guess he's a good. I never met the guy, but I guess he's a good dude. But, like, when it's time to golf, he's playing golf and he's going to try and kick your ass. Yeah. But when it's not time to golf, like, he's going home and he's hanging out with his buddies and

hanging out with his family and he's doing that. And I think Speeth was, you know, kind of quoted saying like he's not interested in, I think for a little bit he was doing like that corp, you know, kind of the stuff that those guys have to do or, you know, some of them have to do if you're a big name. And I think he basically just said, I'm not doing this stuff. I don't want to do it. And I don't care if I make a little bit less money. I don't care if I lose sponsorships.

I don't care about followers on Instagram. None of that matters to me. And yeah, I mean, he is straight up dominating. obviously. Yeah, and honestly, like, you have to say no to your agent a lot, and you have to, like, probably make a lot of people with a lot of money mad, telling them you don't want their money.

And Sid's almost a little similar in the sense that I think it is, like Tim Hortons and maybe, like, one other thing. He turns down millions every offseason. I don't want to waste the day of training to go film a commercial. Like, I just don't care. It's like you and me call me. Yeah, you guys. We're dialed in on our train.

Yeah, we got to get to the gym rat. You know what I mean? I don't have time to, make any more money. That is a pretty good comparison with Crosby, though, because yeah, you really don't see, you know, I mean, I've met him a couple times or whatever. And, you know, I'm, I bet he does pretty much,

he's been making the same salary every year for 20 years. And I think his program from what I doubt it's changed. It's like he goes to Pittsburgh, obviously play the season. When that's done, I've heard he goes and has like a couple weeks of fun in L.A. Because in L.A. he can walk around and nobody has any idea who he is. Right. And then it's back home and he's training. And that's it.

And like you said, you don't, you know, you should, you would think you'd see him especially in Canada. And he does Tim Horton's, but it's not like it's. No, and he's getting older now. Even in his heyday, it wasn't. You see McDavid commercials every commercial break here. Like it's everything. And I get it.

Like that's absolutely how most stars make a lot. of money off the field in every single sport. So when you have a guy like said, it's like, whoa, whoa, he didn't want to take one day to make an extra couple million. That's crazy. Do you want him to, that stuff, it's been who he is, but I'm curious, what are your thoughts? Should he want to leave

to try and win another cup or do you have an opinion on that? You know, I listen to NHL radio too and a couple of the guys go off a little bit and they do say selfish fans, he should get out of Pittsburgh. Ah, God. I do think, I mean, obviously I was never even close to this position.

They couldn't wait to trade me. I couldn't stay anywhere longer in about 25 games. So I do see, I see the attraction if I was a player of that level to be like, hey, yeah, I played for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Yeah. And that's, look, he's won three cups. Like, it's not like there's a whole lot that he hasn't accomplished. But I also do see the side of it where, like, if I'm,

sitting there and I'm him, it's like, hey, like, you know, things aren't looking great here for a while. I've only got so many years left. Like, trying something new, I think, would be fun, too. Like, you know, I, I know this Pittsburgh thing, like, this is great. It's awesome. As fans, you're selfish, and you're like, I don't want to see the end of Sid's career on a shitty team. And you know he's tight with Nate and he's exactly what the avalanche need, like a two center behind McKinn. Are you kidding me? I'm curious. It's totally up to him. I'm curious, the level he's playing at, which is very high is pit. If Sid and Malkin and whoever else stay there and they're still producing, can they turn it around quickly if they get a couple superstars early in it? You know what I mean? They need to finish last this year and get McKin.

if you dominate major juniors at like, you know, let's say 16, 17, 18 or 17 and 18, like it is a little bit of a step up going to college. Like, and it should be because older guys. Older guys. Like, it's going to, it better be harder to play in college than it is in junior. So I get like that challenges them a little bit more. It's a little bit different of a game. But yeah, for the dub, that does suck.

I'm going to pump my tires a little bit with that Keaton Verhof there. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I saw him play. So I've been back to Fort Saskatchewan like once in the last 20. years. I went and dropped the puck at the Phantom AAA like four years ago. That's one visit. One visit. And I'm watching the Fort Sask Rangers play. I just sit down first five minutes of the game. I'm just kind of watching bullshit with some high school buddies. And I'm like watching. I see this big kid on defense kind of flying around a little bit.

I'm like, who's that? They're like, well, his name's Keith. I'm like, are his parents here? They're like, yeah, yeah, over there. So they're the, you know, we're related. We got mutual friends and stuff like that. I go, hey, what's going on with your kid? They're like, oh, well, he just stopped playing goaltender. I'm like, what? He's like, well, no, he was a goaltender last year. I'm like, oh, I watched for a little bit more.

Yeah. So this was his first year playing out. And so I watched for another five minutes and I go, look, I go, lots can happen in life. There's no question about it. But I'm like, this is just my opinion. I think your kid is a player. He could be. Like, he is dog.

To me, he looks like he's about to dominate, especially if he just kind of got out. So I'm like, take that goalie gear and throw out in the garbage. Never go back there. And so anyways, it's been kind of fun to watch him. Well, I haven't watched him, but just kind of pay attention to, I mean, because he's kind of exploded the last couple years. He's going to Nodak next year with the Flames first rounder, Cole Rush.

They both played at Uvick together, or certainly at Uvick, Victoria Royals together. You're a Nodak guy. He spent three seasons there. What is life like on campus for hockey? Because there isn't a major football program of correct? Like you guys are kings of the hill. Spoil, frick and rotten. That's what these college kids are.

Spoil, Bratsy, says. They are pretty spoiled now. Not back in my day, but that new rank, I mean, it's, I think I had a hell of a time at the, at the University of North Dakota. I think the program, well, the program's gone through a little, they did, they made a coaching change and there's been a little, you know, I'm on the outside looking. man, I'm not involved in any of it, but it's been a little tumultuous the last like six months with some moves happening. I do know the fact that they, what's the flames?

It's coal, right? Yeah, Reschney. Yeah, so the fact that those two kids are coming in has really quieted things down. People are very, very excited. So, yeah, I think they're going to have a hell of a time. You know, the school at North Dakota, it's not Harvard or Yale. Like school at North Dakota is, it's as hard. as you want to make it.

If you want to take tough classes, then take tough classes. But you can also get through just fine. I think a lot of it's online classes, Mike. Yeah, my two out of home. That's a world. I don't know anything about a good point. Yeah, it's all online. They won't set foot in classroom.

Crazy. So just keep them out of the pub enough to get better at hockey. Oh, go to the pub. You got a team bond. That's where your team bond. Drinking age is 21. You can't get into the bar. Oh, yeah.

Maybe I'm changing my team on the same. They'll have a good time. You know what? They'll have a time. I mean, they should improve. They're playing against older kids. Like I said, I mean, you can go to the rink there at North Dakota. That ice is available for you whenever you want.

Like if you, Grand Forks, North Dakota, there's not a whole lot of, you know, but if anybody that's listening ever goes through there, it's worth stopping in just to take a look. If you walked into the rink, if you just were like teleport to the middle of the rink, you'd be like, wow, you know, I think this rink is probably in Vegas.

Then we're jumping on the ferry going across to Northern Ireland. We're playing, I think, like four rounds at a place called Bally Lippen. I've never been there. We're playing three rounds at Royal Port Rush, where they just had the open.

and then I think we've got one or two rounds at Port Stewart, which is right there too. So it's on. Tensomaniac. Just dipping your toes in. No gimmies. Play the tips. And like what,

no carts? Oh, there's no carts over there anyway. No cards at any. Yeah, no, it'll be eight men. It won't be,

it'll be, well, be a little easier with eight guys instead of 24. But, uh, yeah, it'll be two men, best ball.

He'll have the games all set up. Probably put up, I don't know, for that amount of goals. probably $2,500 in the pot, and there'll be games like all kinds of different games, different partners every round or for, you know, groups of rounds,

two-man best ball, full handicap, one ball has to go in the hole, maximum score on a hole is net quad again. It's tough on a part three. They hate us over there. They hate us over there. When it's like 24 guys,

because there's money involved, And these caddies are like, you guys aren't good enough to be net quad. I'm like, I couldn't agree more. Tell that guy. Tell that guy. I tell him every trip and he never listened. But it'll be a good time. Enjoy that.

UNVA played together in 2023 and BC. How instrumental was his arrival to you picking Calgary and free agency? Oh, it's big because that's always my brother. Since he got to BC, we've always been cool.

and, you know, always chatted up all the time. Even when I played in Ottawa, last year he was in BC, I was still calling him, checking on him, seeing how good he was doing over there. So, man, just to, you know, get back. And, man, it's just like playing with your brother, man. So it's nothing but fun out there for us. That's unreal.

The offense has been incredible. The defense has been outstanding. And I think the league has been put on notice when you beat Winnipeg, then go into Regina win, and then go win in Winnipeg again. That's incredibly impressive. Your only loss was in like some monsoon rains. Otherwise, you're perfect.

Yeah. First of all, you got to credit the coaches, man. They've been coming up with some great game planning against those teams. And, you know, we've just been, you know, executing on all, every, everything they've been on coaching on. And, you know, everybody's bought in, you know, attention to detail is at a high level. So, I mean, we just have to keep that up. and, you know, keep that mindset of you want to go one and over every week. And I think as long as we do that, you know, things, you know, go the way we want it to go.

So, I mean, the guys are hungry than ever, you know what I mean? They think about last year and, you know, how people, you know, seeing the team and, you know, those type of memories make you go even harder for this year. I got to ask you about the rookie, the moose, Damien Alford. What have you seen from the kid and what's he like? Because the last three games, he's exploded. Yeah, man. I think I've seen it his first week account just, you know, how receptive he is to learning about the game and just how good he wants to, like, be as an own player. I mean, each and every practice, you know, guys are, you know, catching balls after practice where we're getting runs and, you know, he's asking questions to be a better pro. And I think when you get a rookie and he's on that type, he has that type of mindset.

I mean, the sky's the limit, man. I told him, once he got to. his first touchdown i said hey why don't you go on the touchdown street and i mean look where we at right now man i mean i love the kid so much man he's he's an incredible talent i'm glad he's with us you know he you know i'm tall and you know we got tevin tall he makes us look small so i mean i'm glad the moose is on our side so i had heard that uh v a found some sort of clip of his old coach i probably at penn state where they called bambi his first uh couple games and then he went off and had a big game. Like, we gotta change his nickname.

He's now the Moose. Did you and VA dig that up and get him going on the Moose celebrations? I didn't hear about that story of VA, but no, we was on, I think the night before the Saskatchewan game, we was an all-receivers at Earl's, and you know, everybody has like their own signature thing or what they do and we're like, man,

what you think yours would be? He said, a moose, and then, you know, we just came up with. with the celebration i think tevin had him doing this with his hands and we're like now it's just keep it here with it so i mean it was it was perfect and you know it's it's sticking so i mean i love it for him i just need five percent yeah that's right yeah small little cream out small little smidget what so you're going around the table you're talking about like your spirit animals or like what animal you would be what was your answer when someone asked you uh i don't think i have the spirit

animal. Well, if he's the moose, like you were saying, you're at Earl's, the fellows are out. You're going around the table. Is that sort of what you're saying? Or is it just not animals? Just happen to be the him was the moose. I'd be a grizzly bear. I love it. I'm a mauler. I'm a monger. I'm a mongrel on the field. It's like the mall people. Dude, that's eight years in Canada. I guess seven, if you, if you look at the COVID craziness. But you're not. Yeah.

Yeah, so were you here for that, by the way? I shouldn't gloss over that. Or did you stay at home? Like, that would have been a disastrous year to be a player in this. Yeah, no, I was back in Florida. Yeah. And then I was in Canada for a little bit with my wife. So, yeah.

No fun. Anyway, we'll move on. You're calling yourself a grizzly bear. You're from Miami. That tells me you're starting to get some Canadian rubbed off on you, a little maple syrup drizzled on you. Yeah, man. I tell people, I'm full Canadian now, man.

I've been staying in Canada probably for full time for like four years now with my wife. So, yeah, I'm starting to become Canadian, eh? Well done. Nice to play. Could you imagine that growing up as a kid in Miami that you're like, oh, yeah, I'm just going to go live in another country for almost the decade? I mean, if you would have told me that if I was in high school, I'm like, I don't know where half those cities are.

The only city I know is Toronto. So, yeah, man, I mean, it's crazy where life takes you. But, I mean, I always tell people this, man, God takes you to the places where you need to be. And I need to be in Canada. And life has been nothing but amazing since I've been in the CFL. So it's been a blessing. That's unreal.

What do you love about being up here? It's obviously very different than Miami. The rain you said before we started, very similar to Miami, just not as warm. Very similar, but I don't know, man. I like seeing the seasons change, like seeing the leaves change. Man, the people here are amazing. They're courteous.

They're nice. You could just walk anywhere. You can just have a conversation with a random person. You can't do that in Miami. People just look at you crazy. But, I mean, no, Canada's been nothing but nice to me. So, I mean, it's a place, you know, I want to, you know, stay forever. It's interesting.

A lot of new guys here in Calgary on this team, VA included that defense is almost entirely overhauled. Dave Dickinson did return, but most of his staff got whacked from last year. That can sometimes be a real tough spot for guys, but you guys have turned into a major positive. Is that like clean slate, that fresh start helped the bunch for everyone where it's just like, there's not a lot of baggage from last year in the sense that a lot of guys aren't here that were here last year. Yeah, I think it's one of the things where, like you say, you have a fresh start and, you know, guys can start fresh, you know, some, you got new coaches, you got, you know, new things where you can change up a little bit and guys just like, yeah, man, I want to, I want to win, I want to be great. And, you know, it's a different mindset shift that people had coming to this year. Like, whatever it takes to win, whatever it takes to be great, we're willing to do. And I mean, you see it, you see that, you know, before practice after practice, after practice, guys are getting extra film. extra lifting in, like asking the coaches, how can they be better? Like, you just see all the right things happening.

And that's the type of thing you want that changes a culture that changes into a winning culture. So that's something as, you know, guys that's been in the league, guys that's, you know, great cup champions because you got a couple champions on the team. They know what it takes. And, you know, all it takes is a few guys to do certain things to everybody else start doing the same thing. And then you have just one big train rolling of guys knowing the right things around the facility. Hey, best of luck on Thursday.

You guys host Montreal. Congrats on 5,000 yards. You cleared that earlier this year. Walked me through that touchdown you had last week because all of a sudden there's one D back for two wide receivers. I'm like, this isn't going to go well for that guy. Number 31 is going to get cooked up here. Yeah, I think it was just a personnel issue.

I think they thought we were doing short yarders because, you know, we made substitutions and I think they just, yeah, they messed up. And I was on the receive. And then he said he was going to throw it to. whoever 31 went to. So I was just lucky enough to get that free touchdown. It was probably the easiest touchdown on my career, but I take it every day.
