Starting point is 00:00:01 The Leafs, just because you're there, that's a season that feels like that one can't end soon enough for everybody there. What's your take? I saw somebody who's like, expect a new captain, new GM, and new coach. That's quite an off season. We big change. Does one of the three happen before next season? Well, I appreciate the speculation. And I think that it's fair.
Starting point is 00:00:27 I mean, so if you're the owners Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment and you more or less have made the decision that Brad Troy Living needs to be fired you know, then do it. Like he's signing college kids. He's, you know, doing what general managers do
Starting point is 00:00:47 every single day. That doesn't seem to me like a man who's walking on broken ice. Now, you know, there has to be an end of season. review. And maybe MLSC says, all right, Keith Pelley, didn't work out. Sorry, we are going to bring in a president of hockey operations. And then we'll leave it up to the president to decide if he wants a manager change and if he wants a coaching change. So all of that has to come under fire and come under an audit, which will happen at the end of the year. The only way Austin Matthews isn't back is if
Starting point is 00:01:24 Austin Matthews says, I don't believe in the direction we're going here. But guys, I'm not in that cap that thinks Toronto needs to take it to the studs. I don't. I think Trilov has got to find a way and he's got some assets. I thought he did pretty well to be fair at the trade deadline in acquiring some of the pieces. Now you can reinvest in the market, maybe attach a player here or there to it and get some, like, change the look of the team. maybe get lucky at the draft or the lottery 100%. You know, and now off you go again.
Starting point is 00:02:00 So if Austin Matthews decides, okay, I don't know, this doesn't sound right to me, I'm going to play the Quinn Hughes card. I'm two years out and I'm not extending here. So I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt. If you think you can get more for me now and we have to agree on where I would end up, then let's have that conversation with that team. and let's make that decision this off season. For me, that's the only way Matthew's future is called in the question at this point.
Starting point is 00:02:30 It feels like what they have to wrap their heads around Toronto is, is this an off year? Or do we need to rebuild? And if you feel like it's an off year, you probably are like, well, control living is going to stay. Our coach is going to stay, whatever it is. Austin's here. It was just a bad year. But if it's the opposite, you now have to ask yourself,
Starting point is 00:02:51 do we have the right person to start from square one and build a contender? Right. Well, I don't know what game it was, like number of game. Was it 64, 65 of the regular season when Radco Gudis took out the knee of Austin Matthews? Yeah. But to that point, it was an off year. Right. And that incident and their lack of response has injected some courage into the
Starting point is 00:03:21 group because they have played entirely different from the third period of that hockey game to the point of this conversation. So if you can continue on with that and you can pull together the group of players that are leading you in how the team is playing now, all right, I think you can find a way to get through it. I'm not convinced that that's possible. I look at Morgan Riley as an example. I think he's screaming for a change of scenery.
Starting point is 00:03:58 Based in his play, like he takes heat in the market, but it's mostly media heat, and it's based on his game. He's not playing well. He didn't play well enough last year or this year, what is his market value look like? And it may not be much.
Starting point is 00:04:16 That might be a tough contract. move. But it's deals like that where they've got to get, they've got to change the look of the team and bring in players if Craig Barube is still the coach that are going to play the game that he wants them to play.
