All right, we're in it.
Wednesday, game day edition of Barnburner here.
It's me and it's you and it's that guy.
Yeah, we're here.
The guy that you told us yesterday, you hate to his face.
Did you say, and we all strolled.
And I'm like, yeah, I know.
We've been working together 14 years.
It's a strong word.
I know, it is.
I feel some hate in room today, though.
A little friction.
That's good, though.
Not amongst the group.
No.
It's the flames.
That's so angry they are.
They're going to come out like a kid.
Caged animal tonight.
Furious at this six-game losing skit.
Have they been?
Is this a new cage that they put themselves in?
Because they haven't been furious yet about this cage.
They were sterner, but it's only ramping up.
They were stern against Winifake.
And withholding feed and water.
Curtling hatred coming up tonight.
The check's been canceled.
They can't like.
Yigor is pacing in his cell waiting to get released.
You guys throwing corn from the top rope.
That's right.
You guys suck.
I should be in there.
I hit a crossbar.
Hello.
That's closer than you guys have been.
Oh, you're going to sit me because everyone else is scoring.
All right.
That's fine.
We just have fun.
You got to have fun.
What did I say yesterday, Dean?
You got to have fun.
What did he say yesterday?
You're darn right.
You got to have fun.
Did we get the bingo machine?
We're actively searching Kijiji for old kinsman,
Kino.
We have a thumbs up from the boss.
Can we bring the Lexus spoken local,
Broadcaster.
Let's phone the boss.
B8, B8,
I 13.
God, it would be good.
And you could put that on
Instagram and you are the
kings of social media.
Let's go.
You're the master's social media.
Contact the show.
Yeah, DMRet.
Contact the show.
If you've got a spare
bingo ball machine.
You want to sponsor the bingo
ball machine
segment of the show.
Yeah.
It's in, you know,
you know, it's in development.
Beta test.
Yeah.
The show is a presentation of Bet365, game props, player props, totals, money line.
What do you want?
Maybe just want to...
We might need the bingo balls for our picks.
We got another day to worry about picks.
I don't know what you guys are talking about.
Whatever your bet is, it's never ordinary at Bet 365.
Download the app, get in the game.
You haven't signed up already.
Use the Code Nation when you sign up.
You must be 19 or older.
And it's another glorious day to perhaps help out a great cause, the super chat for the
use centers of Calgary.
If you are in the YouTube section as we go live,
you put a comment down with some dough.
The dough goes to the charity.
We'll talk about your comment on the show.
Doe, me.
That's right.
It's what they say.
It's a Calgary Flames.
Game Day, get your helmet on the
Habitant de Morial are in town tonight.
So swar.
Can I be a...
Portoon match to Aki.
Liz, a keep do Canada.
Yeah.
It's a classic Stanley Cup rematch from 86 and 89.
Yeah.
Just...
We'll find out tonight.
Titans.
Well, I feel like one team is kind of.
They're on the upswing.
Molding into a potential.
They're not there yet.
I've been looking at their roster,
but they're fun and they're talented and they are young.
They're two years younger than the flames,
which is considerable when most of these teams are only, you know,
three, four years apart top of month.
Okay, because I love you and he hates you.
Yeah.
Is that something you normally do?
Like, as a fan, check the average age?
Yeah.
I just saw it.
I didn't look for it, but I always do check at the beginning of the year.
Maybe it was because the old.
Oilers are the oldest team in the league last year.
I really wanted to.
You really want to emphasize something.
After the offer sheets, they let two guys actually heading into their prime walk for, like,
extreme value deals to, like, go get old guys.
But I think it is, when you look at teams trying to get better,
it's like, if they're really young, you're like, yeah, there's, there's room.
But is this the reporter side of you, the, I'm going to bring you some.
I'm just curious.
No, that's what I'm not, again, I can tell you kind of, you had too much sleep less.
But at the same time, I can tell you.
you're trying to oh i'm absolutely i said before the show started let's just shit talk everyone
because i think it'd be great i think that's the kind of mood i'm in i want bernice yeah uh no i like
everyone's like they're getting better and i look and like yeah there's a lot of young players here
like you probably got a you know josh anderson and brenn galliger but beyond that this is a very
young team like dobson's a vet there he'd be pretty young on this team yeah and they have not been
good for a while. They've had some
they find a way to get into the playoffs, it seems,
but they picked fifth overall.
Well, I picked first overall in
2022. Pick and high, wouldn't I? Five at
in 23, five and 24.
So they've,
they've actually committed to this plan, right?
And the fan base was patient and understood
what they were doing. And they've got two really,
really smart guys running the team
with, you know, Kent Hughes at the top
and Jeff Gordon, who was phenomenal in New York.
I really like when Montreal's
good. And the city.
it gets well and the fans are just they they were last in the league late november last year
we're flirting with it and then it all comes together they make the playoffs they were clearly
overmatched but hey fun team they need a second line center that was a fun series
the big brawl on the kind of half-ass brawl it was a big brawl but it was a half-ass bro
because they weren't really fighting yeah yeah so like when you look down the middle that's not it
Now they're missing some guys.
Obviously.
Cadre.
They are missing Cadry.
They're also missing Kirby Doc.
Line's out.
Is he out again, Doc?
Jesus.
Well, and, you know, they gave up a high pick for him.
He was a very high pick for Chicago, top five, I believe.
They sent like another high pick to go get him out of Chicago.
And Chicago was like, well, this guy's never healthy.
So maybe we just cut bait.
And if Doc was going to be the guy, we thought he was going to be when he was drafted.
They're in great shape.
But he hasn't been.
Like, Jake Evans should be your first.
We see a trend, sorry, Ryan, are we seeing a trend that some of these higher picks are not doing his, like his right coming along?
Is that capo caco, whatever the hell his name is, Doc, like he's been injured.
Is there a, I don't know.
Is it to AI this?
I remember the flames picking like the Rico Fata and Daniel Kachuk's in the top six.
I think it's always happened, but it does feel like there's some very high guys that have not been.
Well, and word of caution for us, idiots saying, let's go.
pick I know pick right how about we got a hit pick right yeah pick well I've liked their last two
drafts a lot they've done quite well when you look at where guys went versus how they progress
since but look they haven't had that swing in the top five under connie so what are the habs
middling they're in their playoffs super young improving good vibes high scoring so you don't
watch I think they're an exciting team their goalie
might be going to team Canada.
Like, I'm not the biggest DeKembe Matumbo fan or whatever his name is.
But he's one of the best Canadian goalies.
And they've got this Jacob Fowler who just came out of BU that's sitting in the A.
They've got Dobish, who was really good last year.
Like, when you look at all the core pieces, I like their blue line.
They've got lots of scoring.
They just needed out of the center.
Now's Buccott.
They hit a home run with the Suzuki trade.
Yes.
Vegas's eyes got big.
They wanted to go for it.
as you do.
And Suzuki's their captain.
He's been, he's been, he's got 10 points in his last six games.
He's been terrific.
So he's been better than whoever they got Mark Stone from in Ottawa.
Something like that.
Yeah.
You know what?
I was looking at just that draft, as you know, I tend to do sometimes.
Slavkovsky was a bit of a controversial pick at one, right?
It was thought, for a long time, Shane Wright was a guy.
And then maybe it's, oh, maybe it's not right.
When they went Slavkovsky, there was a bit of, ooh, okay.
And it was a tough here because,
we had COVID, right, didn't even play a game.
Like the O was going to start, didn't start.
It was going to start. Well, we'll be up and right. No, you didn't.
So the guy that was supposed to be number one, never played a game, which is
insane. Meanwhile, Slough was playing in Europe and then went over.
He played for the checks, I think, in the world champions of Olympics.
I were in men's leagues. I don't know.
You had to wear a mask, though.
Right.
Just looking at other players that were selected there,
Logan Cooley's turned out to be a pretty good player.
He's got 112 points and 164 games.
He's coming on and is a center.
From where?
Tell him where they got drafted to, Dino.
He got drafted to Arizona.
The Aikki got a big goal last night for the Mammut who beat the avalanche.
Just another of the mammoth in Utah, Utah.
Salt Lake, baby.
That general region, yeah.
Anyway, you know, Pavel Mintyukoff has played a bunch of games.
Very good.
It's good.
Cutter Goce maybe.
a fantastic player Frank Nazar has got himself a big fat contract now but it doesn't seem
Jimmy snuggerud looks like he'll be fine for San Luis so there's some fine players there
but I don't think you've probably looked back uh probably solid pick
Nasar might be the guy when it's all done but Slav's the big body you could score a bit he was
pro ready versus some of these other guys wait what a shitty time to have to go and draft
when you have been in COVID.
first overall.
Yeah.
When guys haven't been playing,
you don't know what you're getting.
I don't know.
The Habs,
I feel like Gordon,
who I thought was doing a good job in New York until.
Well,
he was Dean,
right?
It's not that you thought.
He really was doing an excellent job.
What was it that took,
was it Tom Wilson hit someone and there was a big,
and they wouldn't go,
they wouldn't go,
they wouldn't freak out or something.
And the owner's like,
you're fired because you won't.
Something like that.
Is that what it was?
Yeah.
He's a weird, right?
I believe Gorton was in Boston for a really small window and signed Char to the UFADO,
which might be the greatest UFA signing ever, and then drafted also either Bergeron or Marchand
or McQuash, like some nice, like he was there for only a season or a half a season,
but it was like, there's all the pillars of how they were like cup contenders redacted.
He's smart.
He is smart.
And then Montreal was quick to scoop him up.
Wasn't sure about Kent Hughes, but you need someone that can speak French.
Perfect.
Yeah, that's right.
There it is.
You can't have an angle.
OGM.
We'll just get a French guy next.
Is that Luke's dead?
Parley.
Yeah, it is.
What a talented family.
But I,
they're a good young team, I think.
They're five and two.
They're exciting.
The DUG.
Caulfield is, to me, he's as exciting as a young player is.
Or maybe he is in the game.
Guy can fire it.
Sconson.
Yeah.
Can he shoot the puck?
He had five goals, first goal,
first four games of the year.
Off the score sheet, the last two.
Careful.
Careful.
Yeah.
Yeah, for the flames.
You know, 100% for the flames.
You don't mean for him, maybe.
This team might get to two goals tonight.
You're going to have to be very,
that you're circling Caulfield's name on the whiteboard.
Yeah.
The habs are circling Wolf's name.
Lane Hudson was a decent second round pick.
Decent.
Christ.
Watchers, what do you say?
Are you being cheeky?
Yeah.
Okay.
That was so well done that I didn't even pick up on.
Usually I'm pretty good on the boomer.
A decent second round pick.
For sure.
And then you know what they did is they said, okay, it's time.
We have two picks in a row in the teens.
We already have one of the top three prospect pipelines in the league.
Let's turn these two guys into Noah Dobson.
And the Islanders picking one looking at Schaefer said, yeah, that makes sense for us too.
I like it.
So that's who the flames are playing today.
I'm going to give them pump his tires a little bit.
They've got that Bryce Pickford kid in Medicine Hat.
Yeah, you good?
He's scoring every game.
Man.
scoring every game as a defenseman.
Michael Hayes, the draft of Chicago,
they got lots of good prospects.
Reimbacher's not even here.
I don't know how good he'll be,
but he's good enough to be a player in the league.
It's a loaded system and a team that if they want to go add
a Crosby, a cadre,
a pending free agent, they have a huge cupboard to use.
Not to mention their own firsts.
They had two last year because, of course,
the flame sent them one for Monna.
Wait, we didn't get anything?
they got the pick.
And then they tried him to win a pick and got another first.
What?
Good bit of work by those guys.
We're here in the McLeod Law, LLP Studios.
That's what's important.
The past is not,
the past is not important.
It's the future.
Looking forward.
And if you have something in your future,
that's a little uncertain and you need some legal assistance.
McLeod Law are the folks to,
if I got some skeletons from the past,
can they do anything?
Yeah, you might need that too.
Does it be litigious activity?
You're going to contact them.
That's right.
That's right.
They are the very best.
They're here in our city.
Great supporters of our program.
We appreciate them a great deal.
Going to meet up with them soon, too.
That's right.
Have a little one of these little kind of,
Hey, how are you?
Hey, hey, how's the family?
Nothing good.
Cheers.
God, we are out of our depth when we go to those things.
I might be able to fit into a suit now because I lost some weight.
Dude, you're back.
My suits.
Your hockey suits.
You're playing weights.
But I got no, there's no muscle.
It's just a bag of milk.
Yeah.
it's just just a bag of milk it's all right it's a pretty damn good bag of milk hey strapping guy broad
shoulders is there a better team franchise wise like there are certain teams that are the rangers
are big they're coming on sunday Toronto's big right like they're Boston Chicago original
six typically is there a more fun franchise when that team is good I don't
think so right and there's because there's some franchises where it's like philip
you i hate you i appreciate the your but stop throw batteries i don't hate the habs fit
no they're so passionate it into it and giddy and fun like that building in the playoffs get the
hell out of here that building in the playoffs yes that building at the best of times i saw a clip
somebody had put on on twitter the other day or whatever it's called now it's the crowds in
Montreal it looks like it's a playoff game every night as a goal goes in the crowd boom up to their feet
their arms are in the air.
And it's not because it's a party like Vegas.
No.
It's not the nightclub.
Vegas is putting on a show and it's impressive.
This is just,
this is,
this is soccer,
fandom.
Yeah.
It's the love of the game.
Yes.
It's closer to church than any other city in the league.
Yeah.
It's the religious events.
And we were talking before the show and the pregame show.
It's hard on a Tuesday some nights to go to go to the rink and be excited about the game.
I don't think that's,
they feel that in Montreal.
No.
I don't think that they, right?
Like every game is a, is a, is a passion event.
Yeah.
They're there and they're into it.
It's not, it's not slow.
It's not quiet.
It's not excited.
They, on Tuesday night, Tuesday, Minnesota, let's go.
Party.
That's right.
We're quiet.
I have never been to an NHL game in Montreal.
That is like a egregious omission from my sports rolydex.
Nor have I.
It's a long way to go.
I don't remember playing in the forum.
Played there.
Don't remember.
CTE or?
I don't know.
And he would like the DUG that was his team.
So it should have.
Oh yeah.
And he would have come and watched you.
No.
Couldn't afford that.
He had the big satellite dish.
Crank of the big dish out in the back yard.
We're aiming at it.
Remember those jack?
Satellite dishes?
Used to be like the size of like six picnic tables put together.
You had to aim at it.
Yeah, I know what a satellite dish is.
He's a techie nerd.
He knows.
He's a whole backyard.
We go to the insider hotline,
a presentation of crystal waters,
plumbing and heating,
your crystal clear choice for home comfort.
The temperatures dipping.
How about a nice warm garage all winter long?
Get the garage heater installed professionally.
Not, you know,
you got extension cords running and stuff.
Don't be doing that.
Get it professionally installed.
I sent someone there the other day for that.
There you go.
And maybe it's one of those things where
having nice things,
inside the house, like your big screen TV and your beer fridge and all that sort of thing.
Maybe that's frowned upon.
What about the garage, babe?
You got a big moose head you need to put up?
That's right.
You got a big rack.
You got to throw up on the wall.
It's not,
they don't care what you do in the garage.
You do whatever the hell you want out there.
Get that garage heater with Crystal Waters plumbing and heating.
Crystal Clearcalgary.com.
We go to the insider hotline and say hello to a man who we have played at the Montreal
forum.
Oh, he had dominated the forum.
They'd have been booing him.
He's stuck in his pads, for sure.
Working the gate.
So I did play in Montreal.
I've had two things happen in Montreal.
One night I played really, really well.
And I think the game was tied two all.
We tied two all.
Back then, I think I had 38 or 36 ties in my career.
So we played to a two-two tie.
And they had this, like, famous writer there.
Red Fisher, whatever's been.
Red Kelly.
Red Fisher.
Yeah.
But he was a jackass to people.
And I, you know, I remember he passed away like somewhat recently and everyone's like,
oh, and I didn't like the guy.
The guy took a shot at me.
He was like this bum, you know, this bum, like the Canadians couldn't even beat this
bum backup or whatever.
And I was like, well, who are you?
Yeah, hell with you.
Like, and I'd had, I got like a second star that night.
And I was, to this day, I still get mad when I think about it.
You feel the passion.
Yeah.
Yeah, but like I had a great game and I got a star and I got some pigeon like giving me heck.
Like, oh, this guy's a, I'm like, and of course, everyone, you can't say anything bad about this guy.
And I'm like, I'll say something bad.
I didn't like that the guy took a shot at me for no reason.
But apparently that was his stick.
It was being rude to people.
So I didn't like.
So that was number one.
and then number two,
I was playing for the St. Louis Blues
and
Grant Fear was starting
and I had a few
those Shan Shos
the hot shop. Steemies.
And I had one before
the game or whatever.
And then after the first period
there was a box of them sitting there
where the goalie, the backup
goaltender doesn't sit on the bench.
He sits across
in an aisle.
They write
by the fans that where the, and I had one and I put it in my glove.
And I was, you know, kind of just watching the game and I dig into my glove.
Well, apparently there was a camera up top that, you know, it's in the sky.
It got a little, so it got a little play.
And after the second period, Mike Kitchen, our assistant coach, comes in and goes,
you know, hey, Q wants to see you.
Joel Quimbo wants to see you.
And I was like, oh, maybe he wants, you know, a little advice of power play or what am I seeing type of stuff.
And he, like, presses play, like on the TV.
And it shows me just like eating this.
How'd that go?
The coaching staff is dying lap because they're eating themselves.
Like, you know, huge, very funny guy, very funny.
And he goes, enjoying yourself out there.
And I'm like, yeah, I guess I am.
But he goes.
like anything to tell me and I'm like no I'm good and then shows me
he shows me eating a hot dog and I'm like all right I got busted he goes they're
really good aren't they do it for after the game I'm like I got you so that was
that's awesome and then my third story about that was uh fearsy
fearzy had like four before I was starting that night and fierzy said to me like
how are you chama you you feel okay and I'm like yeah I'm fine he goes I
had four of those hot dogs. So you go, you better
be good. And I was like, all right.
So everybody loved those
hot dogs. So that was the forum and the
bell center. So there you go. I don't
want to pivot too hard, but you mentioned Quenville.
Like he's back. He's in Anaheim. They're off to a
surprisingly really good start.
What makes him so great?
Obviously, they're running Chicago, but
widely regarded as a guy that people
love playing for. So Bond as a
coach as far as what he sees.
So he's really good at
you know, it's not even systems
because we did have really tight systems in St. Louis.
Keep in mind, you know, I had him as a coach
in 20 years, was it 20 years ago, more than that.
Like late, you know, late 90s type of thing.
That's 30.
But when I think of Q,
great communicator with his,
with his top players.
He always had a sense of like
where to press. Not like Darrell.
Like Darrell had a feeling, okay,
which guy, you know, he could put his thumb on, which guy needed a pat on the back.
Q had this rapport about him where he allowed the player to trust themselves,
but he was able to kind of wedge people in the right direction of getting to their potential.
And he wasn't a screamer early on, but then he became a very intense coach after a while.
I actually saw his progression because when he took over in St. Louis,
was he took over for Keenan, who was pretty intense.
And Q would just sit back there.
But then by the time, you know, three years later,
you know, Q was yelling and screaming back there too.
Intense guy, but really smart.
I know, listen, he went through the thing in Chicago,
lots of blame to go around.
He's come back.
I've had conversations with him.
I love the guy.
He's one of my favorite coaches I ever played for.
He's a good person.
Yes, good people make mistakes, but he's also, you know, learned some lessons from it.
And I think he's going to be really good for that Anaheim organization.
What do you see in that team?
I feel like they're coming hard.
They are.
You know why?
Because they've got young skill.
Yeah.
Like they moved away from Zegras because the young players had pushed him out.
Yeah.
That's really what it was, you know?
And I don't know if they felt that Zegras, there was an injury there.
So maybe his progression was hurt.
But, you know, that Carlson kid can.
play. McTavish can play. You know, Troy Terry's kind of like their, they're, you know, their,
vet. He's like 27. And he's a really good player. Well, and that Bennett, Seneca or Seneca,
whatever you say it, like, it felt like a huge reach. They take him at three at the time. And like,
he was projected. He goes to like eight to 12 or whatever. And you're like, whoa, like,
Pat Rieke, what's going on? He's got three already. And talking to a pro scout is like,
this kid's legit. Like, he's going to be a weapon. He came on strong that draft year. Like,
that's another young guy they got there.
And never mind the D.
They just re-upped, you know, the defenseman that the American,
that was phenomenal, Jackson Lekoma out of nowhere.
Yeah, they've got, and they got a goalie there who's, I think, a rock star.
Like he's that Lucas Dostal, like he's good.
There's a reason why they wanted to Gibson out and clear a path for this kid.
Yeah.
So, you know, they've got a goalie.
They've got a couple defensemen that are like really good.
and then they've got this forward group that are, you know,
coming and comment like, you know, and so you add in Crider,
you already had Killoran there.
You got Truba.
You've got that Radco Gudis.
Like they've got these grizzled, you know, vets to help these young guys along.
I don't think they're, you know, they might be the surprise of the year if they made the playoffs,
but I don't know if there'll be a playoff team, but they're going to challenge a lot of people
this year.
What are the odds?
What are the odds?
Jack.
Yeah, Crider's got four goals already
for an old guy.
That's worked out, okay.
Cutter Goce has got four.
Rangers got to get rid of that.
That's the other guy that I couldn't remember
his name.
The kid who wanted out of Philly.
That's Crotier.
That kid's a player.
Like, so, and keep in mind,
they move the young defenseman,
right shot.
He's in Philly for Goet.
Jamie Drysdale.
Yeah, Drysdale.
And you kept thinking, okay, the face of the rebuild in Anaheim was Drysdale and Zegras.
Really?
Yeah.
And they moved past both of them.
So it's interesting.
And now both of them are in, in Philly.
So it's just, I think Anaheim is going to be a force to be reckoned with.
A lot like San Jose.
San Jose's had a dreadful start.
But I still think San Jose has got some.
really, really good young players. They just got to, they got to put it together. I didn't love
that Will Smith's comments the other day, too. The kid? Yeah, the Will Smith, not the singer,
the player in San Jose. What do you say? L.A. Dodger? He basically said like,
it sounds that that work, Worskovsky, Worsowski, yeah, criticized him and said,
and he's like, no, I'm just going to keep playing the way I play. He was doing an in-game, like an
in interview.
I'm going to keep playing the play I want to play.
I'm like, that's really not the thing you want to say or do.
Yeah.
Coach is trying to give you some direction.
Are they just,
are they just as good to F it up one more year and get one more spot?
Because the climb is going to have to happen at some point,
but you might as well be as stacked as possible before you start that climb.
Yeah.
And I think this start might help them do that.
You know what I mean?
It's been a bad start.
but that Celebrini's a player.
That Smith is a player.
Like they've got, and if the goal we can put it together, too, the lefty,
the Ascaroff, like if he can put it together,
he's going to be a star or a bust.
There's no in between that Ascaroff or whatever.
I always butcher his name.
Yeah.
Well, and like Mesa, they get him in the top five this past year.
Well, they got that one.
I was going to say Dickinson was rated top five the year.
And the draft, they got him later.
They got a few vats.
I don't know that Klimberg was the right move,
but I did like the Orlov signing steady,
big left shot guy.
Tofoli's there, you know,
you can give you a 30 there.
Jeff Skinner's got three,
doesn't he?
Yeah.
They do, you know,
what they have is old and new type of thing,
but it just,
they're kind of in the same bucket as Anaheim
where they're going to be really good,
but you might be better served
getting into the mechanic sweepstakes
and see if you can land one more.
One more.
Yeah.
What's that say for our team?
Yeah, what buckets?
I would argue we're going to be a month from now.
We're going to be talking McKenna sweepstakes potentially.
Oh, Mission McKenna?
Mission McKenna.
We started last week, yeah.
There you go.
So that must have been on Thursday because I was on the show on Wednesday.
That was before they blew it too.
Yeah, there's been five or six straight losses since then.
And that's a tough.
Start and oh, but it's a time to re-evaluate, especially for us idiots that just talk the game and we don't have to be down there and deal with it.
I said yesterday that the coach should make it as fun as possible because it's already coming across as they're stressed out because oddly enough there's expectations this year and they're going to have a hard time living up to them.
Last year there were none and everything went well and everyone played well and they worked their asses off and they were just enjoying the ride.
this year they're kind of expected
and they've been talking about it.
They've been selling it as you guys
didn't believe in us last year, but we're back
again and we'll be good.
97 points this year. You're not that good.
You are what you are.
You should just be enjoying it.
Huska looks stressed out to me.
We said it yesterday.
We could be wrong, but rarely are.
Let me ask you a question
because I'm trying to think as a player.
I played on an expansion team.
Okay.
Minnesota Wilde, before they had,
had all these rules where it would make them make a team good right away as a player i'm trying
to remember did i not feel stressed did i not feel like i wanted to win every day did i not feel
like so i'm i'm sitting there going how to jocl maire approach things i remember jacques lamer one time
saying we had a practice and it was all systems and i'll never forget this he's like you need to play
like this every night or you're going to get killed.
And it was basically like there, he wasn't paraphrasing.
He's like, you play like this.
We're going to have a chance to win in every game.
We might not win, but he said, we will be in every game and we will not embarrass
ourselves because it was basically paraphrasing, but we're all castoffs from other
teams.
Other teams didn't want you, okay?
but we're this band of castoffs,
the replacements type of thing,
and can we have a good year, can we have success?
So why I'm saying that is,
while I was in that, I don't remember,
I'm sure there was stress,
and I felt that there was internal stress.
You put it on as a player, you want to have success.
But I think the coaches, the expectation was low.
It's like we're an expansion where we expect to lose.
I remember Jacques having a conversation with me saying,
you're the veteran goaltender.
You're going to get some really tough assignments.
And, you know, we would, Anaheim was struggling back then.
And it was supposed to be my start.
And he'd be like, no, you're playing the back-to-back in Colorado tomorrow.
And that would be like, oh, face back at Forsberg, you know.
That whole nonsense, you know, and Patrick Wah, you know, you name it.
So, you know, when I look at it, I'm looking at the flames like, these guys, they're going to play their asses off.
And Cadre and Coleman and, you know, veteran guys who have won and take a lot of pride in their game, I don't know if their approach will be any different.
You're saying from a coaching standpoint, make it fun, like that's, I'm saying, yeah, I think so.
Because I, we're a bit of a Debbie Downer in this room and we're okay with it because of what,
you just said because of the the San Jose's and the Anaheims and you can see how okay these guys are
going to be good why are they going to be good not because they signed a free agent not because
they made a trade because they drafted well and they drafted high talent game changing players
well and you have to trust that Connie when placed in that position now it might just happen
organically here. Let's be honest. It might just be organically.
Like we're not, you don't have to sell off a bunch of players to bottom out. It just might
organically like maybe Dustin Wolf has a good season, not a great season. You know, maybe
Cadry takes a step back from, maybe Coleman takes a step back from what he did last year,
that type of stuff. It might just happen organically where it's like, okay, we have a decision
to make. And I say we, it's Connie and his management group going, what are we doing here?
Well, we're probably going to sell off some players or trade some players that will bring value back to our organization and trade either for young talent or high graphics so that you can either retool on the fly, very young, or blow it up.
And, you know, I think the focus is at some point if they, for lack of better words, wave the white flag and go, we're in on McKenna.
How do you do that, you know?
Well, like you said, they might, they're last.
Like, they're looking up at a team with zero wins in San Jose.
They're not establishing.
And sadly, they haven't had the best of efforts.
They've had a couple.
They've had some efforts in games, but never complete games.
Maybe last game was their most 60-minute effort.
They played well, but keep in mind, I think they're sitting,
they're worried that we're going to get our heads beat in if we don't play well.
Yeah.
thing like that you know that that team is good so i i look at it and and you know i think
these conversations are going to be had but it's just it i felt like it's really early to have them
like i yeah but that's the situation they're in they've created it by not winning and it's
they've had a tough schedule and wolf has been good not great you know all the things
godre's not scoring colman like all the things that you just listed as to the reasons why they
might not have success this year are present.
Well, here's.
We have to be okay with that.
Let me ask you guys this.
The team they're playing tonight is a pretty damn good template.
Yes.
Another example of what you're trying to be.
It wasn't scorched earth.
It was, you know,
we've been methodically.
It wasn't scorched thirst,
but boy,
they did the right thing with asset management and with,
and drafting.
That's drafting,
that's developing.
that's, you know, finding the right players in that progression of their retool slash whatever that
was.
Can I ask you about that?
Because it stands out to me all the time.
You've brought it up twice.
You're going to make a trade and the team's not doing well and somebody wants Coleman.
Okay.
And you're going to evaluate, you're trading to a team and it's like, well, okay, what draft
pick can I get or what young player can I get?
Right.
My concern with the young player is that the team giving up.
on that young player knows them best right it's a lot of times you're like well we go pick up this
Sharon govich yeah out of jersey well jersey knew what he was they knew he could score but
they knew it was a bit of a dog right there's a lot of ups and downs and that's what we've got here
we're like can this guy play he's not even playing now he's five and a half he's supposed to score
30 he's sitting in a press box yeah is there any extra fear of
trading for a kid instead of a pick.
Do you think?
I,
because it's almost,
sorry,
to finish my thought on it,
it's like coaching.
Or if you're the GM,
you only get so many coaches,
right?
And then you're out.
Well,
if you draft the kid and say the top two,
you get a second round pick and you draft him,
and he's not progressing as much as you think,
usually that's still an asset.
Whereas if you take a kid that was the second rounder
and put him,
into your lineup and he's still not doing it, that asset is not as high, right? Because there's
more of a tracker. Do you get what I'm saying? Yes, I do. And you're always questioning,
why is that team we're trading with willing to get up player out? It's Kirby Doc tonight noodles.
I'm just going to say, Kirby Doc, because I said, look at Chicago. Kirby Doc was 20 when they traded him to
Montreal, 21? I think he was 21. And I remember thinking, why are they giving up?
on a six-foot-four right-shot, 21-year-old centerman that has upside.
Like, what is Chicago seeing that Montreal isn't seeing?
Now, there is the injury issues because he unfortunately hasn't been able to be super healthy,
but he's a good player.
But you're right.
Like, Pinder, you beat me to the punch.
I was sitting there thinking that was exactly what I was thinking.
It's like, why is a team that is in a rebuild willing to give up a young guy?
And the only thing I could think of is that when Chicago thinks they'd be good,
he, you know, Doc would either cycle out or cost them too much money to resign.
So it's like, let's do it now.
Let's flush it out.
We're bottoming out.
We got badard.
Now we're going to build around instead of 21 to 23 year olds, it's going to be 18 to 21 year olds.
There's that next cycle.
Because I think managers, and this is, I think this would be a fair comment.
If you sat down with any manager, they should be able to tell, they don't have to tell us in the media.
They don't have to tell the fans, but they should be able to tell ownership, what's our one-year plan, our three-year plan, and our five-year plan.
Okay.
And all of them have different levels to it because in your one-year plan, yeah, we're trying to make the playoffs.
But if we're not going to make the playoffs, in our one-year plan, it's accruing assets.
But when those assets are really good in year three or year five, they're not going to be able to cost them.
They're not going to cost too much and that we're going to have to trade them because they price themselves up.
Like you have to have these plans that scale together and match what you're trying to get to.
Connie's obviously trying to build a Stanley Cup winner.
That's why you take the job.
That's what you're trying to do.
How do you do that when you have some old, some new, all of that?
I don't know if you go scorched earth or you take the Montreal slash New York Ranger mold because that's what they did.
It was basically the same person, right?
Like, Jeff Gordon.
And he just, he took that Ranger mold.
They put out the letter, hey, we're rebuilding all of that.
And then they had one signing that kind of fast track that I think was Panarin.
And then you start doing that.
So I guess my point is, is coming back to it, you don't know.
Like I would say, if there's, if there's like for the Toronto Maple Leafs,
they don't have a lot of assets to give up right now.
They covet this kid Easton Cowan.
if the Leafs feel that
player X will get them over the hump
to make them either a Stanley Cup contender
or to win multiple rounds
Nazam cadre
Yeah they might have to
think about trading somebody that they would price
Now that's not hey we're seeing something
that we got to get rid of this kid
It's the cost of doing business
So that's the only thing I would counter that with threat
Yeah
The other thing with the Rangers in Montreal is oddly
they were in a playoff mix and then had a bad season.
And when they bottomed out, they got the first overall pick.
Rangers got Lafranier, Montreal got Slavkovsky.
You know what I mean?
Like when it went, when they had that dip, it worked out perfectly for them.
Now maybe you want better talented or different types of generational players, as they say.
Not great draft players.
But it's interesting how both of those kind of worked out.
Add on that too, Boomer.
So say you're right, your playoff team.
and then you have just a bad year like Boston.
Boston last year.
But it's what you do with the assets that you trade in the deadline and all of that too.
What did they get for Marchand?
Because they made the finals that got an extra first rounder, right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
And they moved out Trent Frederick and they moved out what coil and a bunch of guys.
It's the deck chairs.
Why you decide.
So say you're a playoff team last year and you're not going to be a playoff team this year.
go scorched earth and try and get rid of things that you don't want moving forward.
Don't time out.
Yeah, with your.
You take a one year hiatus and they're like, we're going to crash and burn here.
Tampa did it.
Burn it down.
And that's what Boston did.
They literally is like, Marshan's out.
You know, they were moving players out.
They shut guys down.
McAvoy shut, Lynn Holm was down.
Like all these guys are like, yeah, we're just cashing out here.
We're trying to get a pick.
And we trade some of these players for.
high picks and you restock the coverage.
Would the fear in Calgary be, because that's the position they're in right now,
for good or for bad.
And you can say, well, the, the crappy part about it is it's so early on or the good part
about it is it's clarity.
There should be clarity.
I feel like it's clarity to me.
You could argue that, no, they got lots of time to dig out of this and to put a push on.
I'm like, well, or you can accept what you are and play to that strength.
The luxury, I would say on all of this, they have is time.
Because, you know, I don't know unless you're playing with fire and your top trading pick gets hurt.
You're playing.
That's the fear.
You know, you, you know, so it's Rasmus.
We went through this with Tanna, two years ago.
You're like, oh, my God, he's going down the tunnel again.
Like, did they just lose him for another.
Which he did go down the tunnel again.
Isn't Tana of hurt now?
I think they lost.
Well, I think he bumped heads with somebody last night in front of the net,
and then I don't know what happened, but he didn't come back.
They need them.
But you're right.
That's asset management.
It's like, okay, we're going to do this early, so we're protecting an asset.
But can't bubble wrap guys.
Just got to let them play.
But I think, you know, there is time here to figure out we all feel like what direction is going to go.
But you've got to figure out when you take it in that direction, you got to maximize
would you get back.
You're not moving guys with sake and moving guys.
This is literally the future of the Calgary Flames, literally.
Yeah, and I don't think Connie has a tough time with this.
And I think fans will be patient and understand it
because they've watched a team somewhere between 7th and 12th
in the West for the bulk of the last 30 years.
My one curiosity is about the guy we never hear from.
It's a guy that owns the team and calls the shots.
Is he willing to do that?
Yeah, that's a multi-million dollar question.
He would, I think he doesn't want to do it.
I don't think my gut tells me he doesn't want to do it,
but it might become real clear for him too.
And it might be an easier sell factor if you're 10 games in
and you've got one win and you're going well.
That's the thing.
It is early,
but they've already, they're on a six game losing streak in their seventh game.
And they cannot,
and they cannot score.
And I don't know that that's necessarily something they're just going to
magically break out.
of for an extended period of time.
They may get some four and five goal games and that's whatever,
but they look to be a low scoring team and have already got a six game skid under
their belt.
Right.
And you're sitting there thinking how many of those you're going to have this year type
of thing.
And I get it.
You know,
it's funny,
especially early on how one win either, you know, can change how you look at things
or one bad loss can take,
you know,
like I'm in Toronto luckily that the Jays are going so well because black arm bands for the
Leafs right now and they're 500 you know they're three three and one and you know jersey
handily beat them last night and looked like the better team and people are like freaking out
and you're like okay so one you know one convincing win or convincing loss and you're like okay
what is this really this team whereas in Calgary right six games out of win
you're like, okay, this has already become a long season
and we're seven games in.
Yeah.
It's hard.
A couple things.
I thought it was interesting when you talked about Will Smith
that you referenced him as a singer first and not an actor.
So you're big,
I don't like Will Smith.
Oh, okay.
Oh, what he did for that.
It's wrong on the guy.
Oh, yeah, Chris Rock, yeah.
Slap Chris.
And I thought that was a fake, too.
I did too when I was watching.
It was staged.
It looks staged.
So that was my first observation.
second, that Red Fisher.
He is, I mean, he was a very imposing figure.
This guy would strike fear in a lot of people.
Listen, and listen, I don't want to speak ill of somebody who's passed.
And he was a Hall of Fame legend.
So keep in mind, like there's people that are probably going to come at me and go,
how dare you speak.
I get that.
He was a Hall of Fame legend.
But you know what?
We all judge our opinions on a person.
personal interactions.
I did not have a good interaction with him.
So I don't like I, I'm not going to go, oh, well, you know, he treated me like garbage,
but, oh, but he's a great guy or great, but I could respect what he did for a living,
but I didn't like him.
I'm sorry.
That's why we love you.
And you're a great guy.
Yeah, everyone likes pot.
So I feel for noodles doesn't like you.
I'd like you more if you bought me my food, but, you need cheese toast.
When are you passing through town?
What's the story here?
It's, it's cheese toast for everybody.
We're going to cheese.
Caesar's cheese toast
The baskets of it
But I'm getting my own basket
And I'm getting the Moscow meal sitting there
Nice
And the last thing
Talking about singers
I'm sure maybe you've seen this one
But you talk with Joel Quinville
Your former coach
He had a great set of pipes
He really did
He used to do a thing on the old radio show
Better if drunk
And we always felt like
The clips of Joel
or whatever.
Yeah.
Be better if I just imagine that he was hammered,
it makes the clip a lot better.
That Chicago squad.
Take, take out to the ball.
He loves a cigar.
So that's that cigar raspy voice.
Like, that's him in a nutshell.
I'm imagining that after the Hawks have won,
and he's had like a week bender.
What a party that the team and that city had.
It's one of the greatest all-time speeches,
isn't it Cory Crawford,
where he's like,
brought your beauties.
and glaring away and like the camera on stage.
Nowadays, that's just, you know, part of you do.
That's where, you know, the Panthers are saying,
we make apologies to nobody and all of that type of stuff.
I never was placed in that winning situation to be that drunk and do that when you want it.
I just, you know, I did that naturally.
Not yet, Not yet, Noodles.
That was a Tuesday night at, what was the place, Cayley's, right, Pat,
or Morgan's.
Was it Morgan's Pub?
Morgan's had the cover band from the 80s that played.
Yeah, the broken toys every Tuesday.
Oof, good night there.
That was a Tuesday night at Morgan's where, you know,
we got the raspy voice going.
Once you go sideways.
Exactly.
Never boring there.
Well, we'll let you go, but, I mean, there's always things we,
man, there's so much, because you were in Ottawa covering that game last night,
the senators are in a bad way.
Hope he made that win.
I was joking with somebody this morning saying,
Chris Knoblock and Travis Green could have met at noon yesterday.
and they both would have had a handshake and say,
let's take this to overtime.
We both get a point here.
You know,
we'll fight for the extra point.
That's pretty much what happened.
It was a pretty careful game.
Both teams kind of,
you know,
Ebenton at the end of a road trip and,
and Ottawa,
you know,
still trying to find their legs.
I thought Omerk was good.
Skinner actually played well.
Like there was some life in Edmonton.
They looked better because they looked disinterested,
really disinterested in playing in the,
previous games. And Ottawa's, you know, they're in one without Brady.
Brady, not only just the player who can score 35 to 38 goals type of thing, it's an attitude.
People look at Ottawa differently because Brady in today's game now, which is weird to say,
like he's the boogeyman.
There's three or four of them.
Tom Wilson hit that heatel the other day.
You would think they were going to stop the league.
Pretty green hit, I thought.
It might have been slightly late, but.
Blitz, second late, but.
But like, you know, we don't see that anymore.
So a guy like Brady really, you know, the layer comes off of a team when you have such a wildcard,
a guy who is, you know, an absolute physical difference maker.
So he sets the tone for his team and nobody messes with it because he's right there, right?
So you don't have that.
They're really struggling to find their, you know, kind of their game without him.
All right, buddy.
See you next week.
Do you fly home in the morning?
When do you get home after the season?
He was on a 620 this morning.
Do they know that you live in Toronto?
Yeah.
Do you know that you live in Toronto covering the Ottawa senators?
I'm just a part-time Torontoian because you're on the road so much.
I'm in Alberta, too.
I'm in Alberta just as much.
There's two of him, isn't there?
He's got to be.
He's everywhere all the time.
He's an AI agent.
Yeah, he is.
Exactly.
There's two of me.
we're in Nashville next weekend just a reminder
it hurts my heart for you guys to say that

Football picks tomorrow.
Also, Tommy Whilton, Jr.,
head of their playoff game tomorrow.
We'll see you, buddy.
Yep.
They're going to get a win.
Yeah, it could be tonight.
They'll screw it all up.
Way to go.
Wolf's going to start.
No surprise.
We shouldn't be surprised.
I mean, Cooley was good,
but it's now seven of eight.
right that's right no surprise every other day till the end of the month like are we going to see coolly till
november yeah you have to play coolly you'd think but you thought you'd have to play them with three games
in less than four days and they didn't they were trying to get off the mat well now they're trying
to get off the mat even more yeah there's now six games in like that that's the thing is that as long as
they're struggling to score it's going to be tough for someone to go on the whiteboard and write
coolly not wolf because you know that that's the one guy if you only score two you could still win
that's the rest of wolf's career here well until they're good yeah and you know what
Cooley has not played
Cooley ain't no issue.
He's played well and I was expecting.
He would be.
One game.
You should have as much confidence in him
as any other backup.
I mean,
I should have brought Vladar back.
I don't feel any more confident
putting Vlodar out there,
say tonight than you would if it was Cooley.
Cooley's been all right.
It's one game.
He was good.
He was really good in one game.
You're wearing your Tuk.
He does look like he's jettying.
I'm cozyed up.
I just,
it's been a run, fellas.
Like,
serious run here.
You know, solo parenting, bean salad, Seattle.
You guys make sound like solar parenting is extremely difficult.
I find it very rewarding.
It's not difficult.
It's just busy, busy, busy.
And I'm just like, I just want to like sleep and wear sweatpants and like, let's get to
Nashville.
But now you're telling me I got to go to the world.
Well, that might just tell you that you have an issue with your lifestyle choices as opposed
to the, it's a lifestyle choice.
It's an addiction.
I think it's what it's called.
It's an addiction.
Is that what it is?
Zero guineas I absorbed yesterday are my problem?
Well, no, it's yours.
Hankering for the, God, I don't feel right.
I need to.
Dad's got to go out and got to have a pint.
I just need to have a pint somewhere with somebody.
Damn, and I need to talk to some strangers and hammer the black.
Let's go.
Oh, are you guys, you guys are done for the night?
Well, I guess I'll be going on by myself.
No man left behind.
I'll leave all men behind.
I must soldier on.
And soldier on, you will.
on Friday, not only Hawaiian shirt day, but it is Pinder Day at Greta.
It is Jay's Day.
You don't even have to talk to me here.
That's fine.
Everyone's a good spirits.
Jays are in the World Series for the first time since I was 12.
Let's enjoy this scrappy team.
It's an interesting match.
The two teams tied with 52 comeback wins this year, made it to the World Series, the heavily
favored Dodgers and the Plucky.
somehow an underdog despite spending
over 200 million on players, Blue Jays.
$1 million. I don't think you need to sell the match.
It does, should be really good. None of that even matters.
It's the Blue Jays in the World Series.
You are going to be hosting a little get-together.
And by a little get-together, I mean, a bash at Greta.
Secure your free ticket.
So you've got to buy the tickets, but the tickets are free.
So it's, you know, it's just, it's about Numbies.
It's about trying to just make sure we have some crowd control and we have 9,000.
to people. You'd understand if there's some enthusiasm around the series. Yeah.
It's, so secure your tickets, grab five or six, bring your buddies. Let's get down there.
One guy brought his girlfriend. That was a little awkward.
Oh, God. Guys, fellows. I was like, man, like, I understand this is probably a lovely gal that gets
along with the fellas. Like, you literally brought her to like loud sports, 28 dudes only female.
Like, you brought her to a sausage party. That's either like the greatest catch of all time or
you're going to screw this up, buddy. Okay. So we're finding these tickets to purchase for freeware.
Show description will have the link.
Jack will throw it in the comments.
All push on social media today.
All those things are true.
Yeah.
All those things are true.
Yesterday it was in the show description as well and Jack will throw it in the comments.
There you go.
Secure your ticket.
See you there.
It's a six o'clock first pitch.
The side room, we're in the alley, which has got those new TVs, the sound blasted, its own little bar.
Great spots.
We did the 999.
That will open at 5.
But Greta is open at 3 if you want to hit Mario card for an hour or two.
There you have it.
First pitch.
just after six with that guy right there.
God, I want to go.
I want to go with you.
You're welcome.
Can't.
Your house in a party.
It won't be a great a party.
Keyes in a bowl party,
he told us yesterday.
Yeah, well, that would spice it up.
Make the most of it.
Scott, sadly, they don't.
I would recommend the bowel bun.
Very good, yummy.
Great street food.
Yeah, I get some bean salad and an IPA.
Oh, everyone's on it.
Good God.
It's heard.
he said yesterday i would like for this just to go away but i have a feeling it's not going to
it's the groundhog day animal the next 10 years of my life people are going to come up to me and say hey bean salad
yeah can i get a picture let's do the pender report speaking of which time to i've been so much going on
it's game day dean woo woo hoo hoo hoo hoo hoo who indeed
Penderport brought to my.
Yeah, that's you.
We got to tighten that up.
Village Honda, Northwest Automol.
He needs a big gargola or something.
A village honda.com.
A bit of a flamberger in there.
We're into winter.
It's a crazy winter here.
Reliable vehicles, village honda.com.
Let's get to it.
Ryan Pike and the writers at Flames Nation trying to put things in perspective,
give us an insight on the team every day.
Fresh articles, more writing.
Let's head there today.
Prospects impressing.
that Wittenback kid who does not play at Merrimack,
but Quinnipiac.
Ah, I referenced on the show yesterday.
He's after a great start.
Still can give a dog a bone there.
That's good.
Also, some of the good starts in Major Junior,
the other NCAA ranks,
and down on the farm,
we saw Andrew Bashargett his first goal a couple months.
I want to know what's going on with the team.
Lots of that as well.
In fact, Kent Wilson,
who will be on Afterburner this week,
had this article in the Calgary Herald today.
Ethical.
Calgary Flames case for any, quote, ethical tank season.
They don't have to tank in traditional sense.
They only have to stop fighting gravity.
I think that's very well put.
And the article is also very well written.
A three minute read, they say on the website.
Says who? I can't read.
Jack was five, but you know,
everyone reading your own pace.
That's going to be a 10 minute deal for me.
There's no timer on the website.
They'll let you read as long as you want.
It's a great right from Kent Wilson.
and it's a plea to not go trading seconds and thirds for some band-aid fixes.
Let it happen.
Yep.
Let it happen.
And maybe even a bit of a case for, well, and if we know what's happening, maybe you could help it along.
There is that.
You've got a lot of players that might be ready for the NHL come spring to get their feet wet.
You don't need all of the Farabees and Coleman's and frosts and like, does someone need a winger?
eat, have some salary, move a winner.
Like Noodles was saying it's early.
It could be early for that.
Yeah.
Oh, trade off your assets and play the kids.
Okay.
Yeah, it's October.
You got a lot of time for that part of it.
But it does feel like this story is going to write itself.
Yes, for sure.
I like the word gravity in that.
I think Tampa Bay did it well once.
I forget who they got, but they were good, good, good, good, good.
And one year, the wheels fell off and they drafted really, really high.
And it was like, Jesus, that was great.
This really helps get over the talk.
Yeah.
I'd have to look at it.
I recall that too.
I think they went to, in four years,
they went to the Eastern Conference Final three times.
And the one they missed.
And there was like, yeah, they picked well.
Yeah.
Of course they did.
Star players.
Keep moving.
Mike Gould had this on Twitter last night.
It's not something you want to see as a Flames fan
when the Emil Heinemans and Anthony Mantas of the world
would be the leading scorer on your team.
Oh.
Hey.
Another reason why Mike
Cheap shot feels the urge
to let anyone playing in this system
off the hook a bit.
Tough to be a supporting player
in this style of Farby,
Sharon Govich, Zeri Frost, when you've
got nothing to support. It's only
been three years, but I feel like we're starting to forget what
stars actually look like here. I mean,
kind of feels like a bit of a shot at Huska, but I also think
Huska's trying to make chicken salad here.
Yeah, Huska's trying to win.
He's trying to, the one thing,
Huska has tried a lot of things.
There's no lack of trying.
Yeah.
This is not,
this does not feel like a coaching thing to me.
This just feels like a team that is not very good.
I feel like you could go and watch a few games from around the league and pick up on the fact that there's more talented offensive.
Yes.
Squads.
Even the penguins here,
you know they're actively trying to make that roster worse.
They're off to a great start.
but you still got Crosby, you still got Melk,
and you still got Ricky Racks, I believe,
like Rust, like it's not, like,
the top end of this team just does not match up
to almost any other team in the league.
I don't know that there's a team where if you said,
here's our best three forwards that would be worse
than the flames.
Well, we'll have time to dig through that
over the next six months.
It's Habs and Flames tonight.
Should be a real barn burn.
Yeah, always fun at the dome when the habs are here.
We know that. There's Nick Suzuki.
You noted the, yeah.
laundered out of Vegas nicely for a few prime years of Max Patcher.
Ready.
There's now some cadre in the bottom, future habeas saying, Dean.
That's great stuff.
I don't know if I just.
They're your odds for tonight's game.
And Pike noted it.
There's a lot of history between these two franchises.
Of course, the two stay on the cup finals.
The 53rd regular season game in the dome will go tonight.
It's their second to last in the last.
Pike never shuts up, hey?
Yeah, he's busy.
In their last hockey specific venue in the Lone,
in the league.
It's a great photo, though.
Yeah.
If you like pixels,
yeah,
it's great.
You like blur.
I read somewhere that the pixels are now
what's doing the mind control
for the government.
Got it.
Let's keep moving.
Don't want to get bug down.
Get you up for lunch here.
Note to the Calgary Flames.
Another pike bomb.
You had a pike bomb for me?
We haven't Pike bomb.
Oh, Pike's still right.
There's a Pike boy.
Shut up, Pike.
Let us get a word in.
Pike bomb.
It's a Pike bomb.
I see the Blue Js
are in the World Series. So now it is a four local game for the flames. So two o'clock for us? No, it's four mountains.
It's an eight o'clock start for all the World Series Eastern time. So that at least, you do a nice little double up there. Leafs and then change potentially or are they in LA that night? They're in L.A., so screw that.
I wonder how that gets started. Is that a league thing? Is that the Leafs? They did it last series as well. And it's the Leafs saying, hey, it'll be better for us and you guys if we do this. And they're like, thank you. That's great. Yeah. Do you think anyone's
told the flames.
Pike.
Pike just told the flames.
Well, yeah.
And if you need life for sports
insight, Ryan
Pike at Ryan and Pike.
He's even got some dating advice
on there.
He noted that the cheese buns
for the Glamorgan bakery are an excellent
first date gift.
Like, he's a honey dripper
this guy.
All kinds of wisdom.
That's why they call him the ranch.
Let's move to last night's results,
shall we?
I embigined it for you, Dean.
Thanks, pal.
My kid told me there were no games on the TV last.
Only 10.
Was he hammered?
You had Marshan back in Boston.
He scored on his, well, got part of a goal on his first shift crash in the net.
The Penguins, Jack.
What is going on?
Vancouver, I believe, scored first, and then it was all Penguino.
She loves revenge game.
She loves revenge game.
Boy, Brazzers.
Justin Brazzers.
I don't know who that is.
Yeah, you've never heard him.
Three point night.
Oh, man.
I'm familiar with Brassers, but.
he's got what four or five on the year now he's got like eight points in seven games he's the best that line of mantha malcon and brazers
oilers were up two nothing in the third needed overtime they get past the struggling sins no one in
pittsburgh is even having these conversations like pittsburgh sports radio isn't talking about brasers no no
they're not at all uh and let's have a little look we got marshand it's a bit long you guys let me know
when you hit it. But this is
a Hall of Fame caliber player, a guy that
won a cup, an emotional leader
returning to Boston. It was a little contentious
him wanting a trade specifically to Florida,
but it worked out for everyone. They get the first
because the cats win the cup.
And this is
in Boston. It's a little montage.
Can't hold together, Reds. A lot of emotions there.
That's a good montage.
His past his old boy,
the louder they cheered, the more he got emotional.
And then again, on his first shift, they scored.
He's crashing the net being a grease ball.
Bruins drafted him in the third round in 2006.
Jeff Gordon, there it is.
Not bad.
He really turned the corner after the, what was it?
The licking, the face licking?
No, well, there was some of that that wasn't ideal.
But, like, he was going to be a grease ball player,
but he turned into a high scoring.
It was after the world when the NHL had that event in Toronto.
And he played with, what was the name of that?
an event. World Cup or whatever they did.
Made up summer tournament that they had with the kids team and the,
all the young stars. Yeah, that was the last World Cup.
Yeah. Young stars, team Europe, Canada, USA, all that.
Yeah. Big, big cheer and they would get a late, weird bounce to win with the
Panthers on the road. It was back and forth in the third. Great game last night.
Should have had two cups in Boston. Remember when they absolutely dropped the ball against Chicago?
And St. Louis, man. They're up three two against San Francisco.
Louis 10th.
They could have three.
Remember Chicago scored like two goals and like three minutes left in the game?
Yeah, but Dave Boland.
Yeah.
Got the one.
Yeah.
They have one cup from that era, which feels light.
And then the weirdest part is the year after Bergeron retires, they have the greatest
regular season we've seen in our lives.
It was like 120 points or something crazy.
And then they're up three, two, three one on the Panthers,
blow a lead in the third and game seven.
Hoey.
Could have been more, but it's a hell of a decade and a half of hockey for there.
Eight points and eight games to.
start the season for old Marshaun.
Panthers are going to get off to a slow star. You know, they're missing
a barco. They got no six out.
They're missing so defense made cool a cop.
No, they're fine. It's okay.
Panthers are going to be the Panthers.
Another great start for the year. Matthew
Schaefer, the first overall pick for the islanders.
They played six games. He's got a
blank game point streak.
Six, including the game
winner last night and a helper.
Craig Lannon.
Wow. Anytime you're compared to Craig Rlanon.
He, uh, off to
great start. Team not, but
Shafer looks like a hell of a
pick at one. Look at the crowd.
We're supposed to be working now.
Okay.
The old goat in the front.
Son of a bitch.
Tonight's late.
Embiggin, please, Jack. Let's get to it.
Wow. There you are. Oh, hey, I can see
it. Blind guy can even see it.
Wild at the Devils,
that's the Jacques Lamar Bowl. Go get it.
Wings are off to a great start. And the
Sabres have been looking pretty good after that.
awful start to the year. They pumped eight the other day.
And then, of course, Flames and Habs.
Then they beat Florida, didn't they?
They did. And that was the one where Marciaan jumped Dahlene because he was like,
screw this, we're losing. I'm going to go get a pound of flesh.
Yeah.
Montreal beat them in their last game.
So Habs are coming in on a one game wins.
One game wins.
That division is just nails. Those three teams who just talked about, Detroit, Buffalo,
and Montreal. They're not any of the top four teams in that division.
We would have picked at the beginning of the year, the Florida's, the Tampa's,
the Toronto's, the Boston's potentially.
It's a great division.
I don't sleep on the devils.
The devils.
They absolutely disemboweled the oilers the other day.
Look good against Toronto last night.
Devils are good.
Disemboweled.
It's a hunting terminology.
That's right.
Rets got me all, uh, well, you look like a hunter.
Yeah.
No,
it's osmosis just because he's talking about it every day.
Yeah.
What are those things on the moose?
The antlers.
Hooks and.
Sure.
It's got a tree stand.
See?
a crossbow.
I'm convinced.
Yeah, I'm there.
I did shoot a gun once.
It was a on a stag in Vegas, extremely hungover.
Remington shotgun.
Holy crap.
Big kickback.
Let's go to Jays and Dodgers.
The World Series will start Friday.
We told you about the watch party of Greta.
There it is.
Otani, Vladi, Kerkie,
Tay Oscar.
Teosker and Anders.
Not to mention pseudo-Canadian, Freddie Freeman.
That a boy, Fred.
George Springer.
And there's your game one starter for the Dodgers.
Why are promoting this guy?
I'm just saying he's telling you who's going to start game one.
Blue Jays have not told new one yet.
It sounds like it'll be Kevin Gosman.
It has not been confirmed.
Dodgers are like, yeah, we got the best team ERA for starters in the majors by a mile.
Our starters have been nails.
We don't want to talk about our bullpen.
Blake's nails getting the ball game one.
Amoto game two.
Do they have a shitty bullpen?
Yes.
What are the keys to success, Ryan?
Get through the starters, which the Jay's been good at.
Work the pitch counts up.
Get into the bullpen.
We'll see if they can do it again.
against the best staff in baseball.
Game one Friday.
So that would be a good thing.
I wonder if their pitchers can shut down.
Oh.
No,
you guys are loving this AI stuff.
This,
this popped them.
I don't remember this match.
Are you sure this is AI?
This is Money Night Wrong.
What is this?
SORA.
How do you know for sure?
That's the worst pin ever.
It's not a great pin.
No,
you got to lift the leg there.
You need some leverage.
Yeah.
That's not ideal.
AI's not quite there yet.
It's close, though, isn't it?
Jack says his entire algorithm
is just these SORA videos.
I'm getting
like movie trailers for Disney.
The Disney content.
Yeah.
Yeah, you can't even talk about that one.
You showed me.
And our pal Rash,
Madani, hey, look, you're in the business it takes.
You're going to have some hits.
You're going to have some misses.
Friend of the show.
So check in ahead of game seven.
They're not going to do it.
They've announced their lineup.
They should sit George Springer tonight.
He is an absolute liability with a bad knee.
His swings have been a mess.
We love your, Ash.
A for effort.
It's a tough.
business.
What really is.
You can't know about this.
The hot take business is a tough one.
When you're hot, you're hot.
When you're not, you're not.
What was the rash's tweet we had like a month ago?
And people were giving them shit.
Yeah, it was.
It was Blue Jays.
It was something about, uh, bullpen day is going to kill him or something like that.
It was against the Yankees.
He was talking about the championship series.
He was going to start on Friday.
Get your tickets.
Oh, yeah.
The, uh, the, uh, the decision.
panel has spoken. This game's over
and then the 12-0-0. And he ended up being right.
He ended up being right.
So he's one and one. And he may be right again
about Springer, maybe that knee. Maybe.
Yeah, done it though. Pretty good.
The other game.
Okay, we'll move Thursday nighter in NFL
news. The four-down
football land. Okay,
well, how do we feel about this? It sounds like
once again
against the chargers
that are still dinged up. Marion Hampton's going to be
a while. Joe Alt isn't back yet.
Jack, what are we thinking here?
I thought both these teams would be good,
but the last couple of weeks they've been bad.
Wentz going again, a quarterback.
It's not good last week for once.
What's up with the Chargers?
Dinged up and the defense's been torched for a month
and it looked really good week one against Kansas City.
That was going to be a key piece.
I have that D.
Sub out of that D if you got that D.
Tell you not for free.
What are the Colts drop?
30.
Yeah, dude, they're getting steamrolled on defense right now.
They got Khalil Mack back.
His elbow was pointing the wrong way through weeks ago.
I don't know how he's back that quick.
But that's tomorrow.
We'll have some football picks for you as well.
Now, the Jets owner was confronted in some sort of a fancy ballroom
and asked about his winless jets.
Remember, everyone after week four to win, up the Jets,
and they still don't have a win.
And the starting quarterback, I don't know if it's catching strays
or if you're in the line of fire or if you're on the Mars mission,
but Woody Johnson's done with you.
Watch your confidence level in Aaron to turn it around.
It looks like he's turning around parts of it.
You know, it's hard when you have a quarterback with, you know,
with a rating that we've got, you know.
I mean, he has stability, but something just is not jiving.
But if you look at any head coach of the quarterback like that,
you're going to see similar results if you across the league.
You have to play consistently with,
you know at that position and uh and that's what we're going to try to do uh yeah he needs to complete
a pass no he's not because he's going to be holding a clipboard tyrod taylor
he'll be better with tyrod tarad can you be worse there's zero wins with fields so yeah
oh yeah keep moving stamp peters announced their uh trophy nominees for the season
even with a week left hey what if i was going to have a great week
20 just taking that award away for that probably fine probably fine dejc mills they're
candidate for the most outstanding player clarence hicks for a defensive player jalen philpot
for most outstanding canadian zach williams on the o line chris fortin for offensive rookie and
special teams the Aussie punta mate let's get a v b throw in the esky have a bobby mark
vasid he's been kicking the hell out of the ball mills that a great year congrats to the boys
Friday and Edmonton.
Unfortunate start time,
it's going to overlap with the chase game.
But they need a win
and a riders win over BC.
That would secure a home game at McMahon
for the West semifinal.
Let's go.
Let's go.
Let's go.
Speaking of which,
Calvary FC's playoff game
will be Sunday at Echo Field at 4.
Who are they playing?
Well, it's complicated,
but we'll find out tonight
as York will be hosting
as the four-seed against the fifth-seated club,
Halifax.
Winner of that team comes to Calgary on Sunday.
Go get them, fellas.
So this one, sorry, this one's today.
This one's tonight.
And the winner will be the opponent for the cavalry on Sunday.
And we'll hear from Tommy tomorrow as he gets set for.
Where's a York United?
That's great of Toronto.
Yeah, York is sort of north of Toronto.
So I was thinking for Halifax, if they're victorious, do you start getting you just come out here?
Do you go back home?
Do you then make the longs?
Probably come out here.
It's already like tonight.
It's waking up.
It's Thursday.
get out here.
Yeah.
I don't know Matt Coronado played for York.
Pretty cool.
It's a very skilled guy.
Great eyebrows.
Let's keep moving.
Finally,
to send you off on a World Series week,
Canada against the USA,
although the fellows on the What Chaos Podcasts
said the Leafs are America's team.
Everyone hates the Dodgers now.
The Yankees.
Oh, is that right?
But to get you fired up,
the most Canadian video of all time,
rat.
Is our solo going to get us halt down?
Cowboy, Hat comes flying down, ketchup chips, Don Cherry videos, polar bears fighting Terry Fox, Blue Jays, John Downey, Waterfalls, Dancing, Skating, Maple Syrup, Drake, Mike Myers, let's go.
That's what goes through that guy's mind when he eats ketchup chips. We'll respond to America. There'll be tariffs coming on ketchup chips soon. Don't mess with us. That is your Pinned Report on this Wednesday, October.
22nd for our good friends at Village Honda.

Russia.
Maybe Kempchak.
Maybe some Russian, too.
Oh, Russia.
Have you ever been to Russia?
Finland, do they have?
I don't think no.
Have I been to Russia?
Yeah.
Yes.
Where?
Moscow, St. Pete.
When I was part of the world stars, yep.
Moscow and St. Pete's.
Great cities.
Actually,
St. Peter's beautiful.
In the bag.
Vodka.
Long ago.
Wotka.
Had a jag going?
I should have wrote a book on that trip.
Shouldn't have went on that trip, probably.
Came back a worst player or better?
Worst player, human,
reputation,
all in decline.
Burns a couple coaches in the league,
few GMs.
Yeah, ruined Christmas.
Yeah, there was a lot.
Didn't go away.
Was that the turkey in the hot tub trip?
Yeah.
That's awesome.
Jack doesn't know that stuff.
So gross.
No gifts.
Shoppers drug mark for gifts on Christmas.
Frozen turkey in the hot tub.
Times are tough,
Chuck.
It was tough.
Beautiful culture and history over there, though.
Yeah.
Well worth it.
Everyone survived.
Kind of.

That's right.
Outdoor.
Dot dental.
And I saw on their social media,
they're doing, you know,
Halloween's coming.
They're doing stuff for the kids.
Oh.
They're very thoughtful.
Very thoughtful.
Good little video game room there for the kids.
They take good care of you.
Magazines for the Arnold's kids, play some Mario.
Dr. J.
Thinking of it all.
I'm gone.
I've come to see you, Dr. Jay.
Get some face paint, some goodies.
Do you still trick or treat?
Put on my clown outfit.
Yep.
Are we wearing costumes on Friday?
Yes.
Yeah.
Absolutely.
You know what you're wearing?
Halloween.
No, I can't tell people.
I just ask if you know.
in Nashville you're going to be careful. Now, we've got to think this through here.
You're in Nashville. You don't want the door. No, no. I'm not worried about the Nashville.
I'm worried about the customs. I'm not sure how they'll respond to face paint.
Because you were going to dress up as a cartel guy, right? That's not going to be.
Careful. We're just going to get you to come into this room over here. But I got
toothsees. Jack, I'm coming as a jailbird. He's got the orange jumps through the ankle braces.
No, Jack. Customs.
get that off.
You can probably,
you'll figure it out when you get there.
It can't be a samurai.
Yeah,
they're going to take that from you.
Bank robbers, no good.
Paul Bunyan,
you got an axe in your carry-on.
They're not going to frown on that for sure.
I've got an idea.
Well,
but we'll hash it out.
It's a late.
We'll figure it out.
Figure it out.
Bet 365,
the official gaming partner
of Barnburn and Flames Nation.
Get the app on.
Get on your phone,
your tablet,
how are you going to do it?
But get it on your phone.
And then bet responsibly.
But get in the game.
It's never ordinary at bet 365.
It's happening tonight.
It's finally the curse will end.
Joel Fairby will stop hitting posts and score a goal.
Plus 300.
He's been arguably the best flame through seven games that does not play net.
He's been snake bit in his hell.
It's happening.
And the flames have lost five of their six losses this year by two or more.
I'm going to keep betting the minus one and a half on the other team until that slows down.
Because you had that on the jets the other night, right?
Yes.
That was the one loss that was not by two.
All others were two or more.
It was big.
It's because they couldn't get the goalie out of the net.
They missed an empty netter.
Shoot it.
Hit the net.
Dean's been telling us since last June, we had this revelation.
Since the dawn of time.
Empty netters.
They still count.
They count as much as.
Yes.
It's not even a goal.
The goal is wearing the goalies in.
Yeah.
there you have it.
Should be a lively barn tonight.
It will be a lively barn.
Fall like atmosphere.
It's beautiful weather out there.
The larch.
Is that what that is?
The turning color of the trees and stuff?
It's a bird.
A bird.
Or a chair left at Lake Louise.
Well, we're excited.
Obviously, I'm very excited.
Yeah.
I'm going to scan those HABs lines for any former flames.
I didn't see any of there.
Domson was a flames draft pick.
That's the one.
Noah Dobson was a flame.
I'm sorry, they traded that pick to get Travis
Hamannock or whatever was left to Travis Hamannock
and immediately he became
a very, very good player.
That was the first round of the flames,
traded to the Islanders for Hamannock.
Shit happens, Ryan.
Goosh.
What do you do?
Yeah, like the larch, the hikes.
You go on the, look at the coloring,
changing of the leaves.
Okay.
You all right?
I am all right.
You're going to go hiking is what you're telling me?
No, it's just hardy nature.
And high altitude regions.
You can withstand extreme temperatures.
I don't know what the F year is even.
I said the light, beautiful time of year, the changing of the leaves.
So there's larch down by the Saddle Dome is what you're saying?
Oh, it's the fall time.
Autumn, beautiful.
It's a beautiful time of year.
All right.
Steen's favorite apparently.
Beautiful time of year.
It loves soup
And jeez, I felt bad for a guy down the block
I don't know if you guys
Here?
This block?
Uh-huh
She closed up
Opening up
Oh, fella
It looked
He was out
He's got some new chairs on the front little
He's kind of positioning them
So get ready for all the customers
That no doubt are going to be coming by
Paving crew wheels in
Oh, buddy
Got some bad
news for you.
Maybe think of that
Seinfeld episode with Babu
where Jerry gives him the advice to change his menu.
Oh, Babu! No!
And then nobody shows up and he's
closing up shop.
Go support Babu down the street.
What kind of an establishment
does it?
Dog food, human food.
There's a lot of dogs. It ain't going to matter.
Yeah, it ain't going to matter. It could be given away $100
dollars. You're going to be out of
business.
A little bit worth nothing.
Tomorrow's Thursday.
Football picks.
Football picks.
We'll have our recap on the Habs.
I don't know if this Thursday football picks.
You want to go to Friday?
So early.
It's so early.
I mean, I like the Fridays.
Hey, it's a boomocracy.
No,
we do it Friday.
We've talked about it though because on Friday.
Let's do a Thursday pick as a group.
Friday.
On the Thursday night game?
Yeah.
Okay.
We could pool our money.
Let's do a parlay.
settle down Jack
he's got to jump him with some stupid ass
Jack's got an off air story he hasn't told you yet that is
absolutely insane stay off this table
Jack and uh
because Friday's usually got Drager
and some other things to talk and then we're doing another
another football so it makes that the show can get kind of
lengthy and I know how you love it's nothing about a lengthy
show we can yeah I'm good with
right you make the picks whenever you want okay
well I'm
probably the least influenced by Thursday or Friday or Sunday or injuries.
I bet with knowledge and my heart.
Yeah.
Knowledge of the heart.
Knowledge of the heart.
The ventricles, the aorta, all of that.
Which aren't always pumping numbers, apparently.
No.
Feels like there's something in one of them.
It's the clock there.
Oh, we got a, hey, and look at this.
Definitely do some of the Zootjats.
We got a couple in there, money raised, going to the U.
Centers of Gallagree.
Freezing.
Stay out of the lake if you have a lake in your backyard.
Yeah, Rett's advice.
For those of you with a lake in your backyard, note, cold.
Tom the trucker.
Tom the trucker.
Oh, that is a good, good point.
Tom the trucker.
Fellas.
How torn is Lou right now?
And Lou Bardous.
Peter Lombardius, big Dodgers fan, loves all things Canada.
Get that man on the show if you can.
He's good people.
Was Tom the trucker, the gang that showed up at him.
He was in Ottawa.
Yeah, he was in Ottawa.
Tease and peace, Tommy.
Still feeling the repercussions from that, apparently.
Bank accounts all opened up.
You're back, Tommy. You're back.
Good to know. Good to see it.
We should call Lou.
Just for a short...
I think we should.
Just for... That would be...
All right.
Don't have to tell me twice.
You going to do it?
Richard Braley.
Didn't he own the BC lines?
Yeah, he did. $10.
Cheap prick.
All this talk about dumping the season to get.
get a high draft pick is just an excuse that Craig Conroy is not doing his job.
Being a former player doesn't automatically make you a good GM.
So Dick when you.
Richard.
What's happening?
We have conifidence.
So I have a lot of conifference.
I feel like this is.
When you've been handed this bag, what would you, how?
Here's seven free agents.
Go to work.
Yeah.
Here's a bunch of guys that don't want to be on your team.
And.
So Richard would have wanted them to.
Stendland home gives the door of the big
I'm a top pair of defenseman deal
Hanofin eight years
Lock him up.
Of the oldest team in the league
You'd be winning cups like crazy, wouldn't you, Rick?
I think Craig put in a few years of being an assistant
and traveling the globe, watching hockey and learning that trade.
I don't think he just took off his skates and went upstairs and said,
I'd like to run the place.
That's all right.
I understand what you're saying, Richard.
But dumping the season, again, it would suggest that
if we just let things play out,
they'd be really good.
But instead,
we're deciding to dump on the season
and turn these victories into losses
because
don't think that's what's happening here.
He did not ink that
Huberto extension,
if you need clarity there.
Mission McKenna.
Dick. Yeah.
Mission McKenna.
Appreciate the,
appreciate the support.
Appreciate the money raised for the charity.
That's also good.
Ever texted and shit talk, might.
I'll do that.
That's my,
this is my house.
I'll be doing the shit talk in here.
I do have an Eliasilo of update.
He made his NHL debut last night to huge acclaim.
Oh,
the Colorado.
Colorado.
Colorado.
Minus one,
12 and a half minutes of ice time,
16 shifts,
two shots,
two didn't hit the net,
three hits,
and seen.
Glad we got that in.
I know.
I don't know where it came from, but yeah.
Who?
Exactly.
That's probably it.
See you, buddies.
