And we got the. unfortunate word that the hockey team locomotive Yaroslav had been in a plane crash.

September 7th of 2011, plane headed towards Minsk for their opening game of the KHL season. The plane barely made it off the ground and crashed. And 43 people were killed in that plane crash among them. Seven former NHLers, Pavel Demetra is a name. A lot of people would obviously remember Ruslan Saleh, Carlos Scratchtons, Joseph Vassichek. And of course, Flame great. Brad McCriman, beloved Flame,

NHL assistant coach with the Wings for a period of time. Everybody loved Beast. And to this day, everybody loves Beast. So, and not to anyone is more important. But for Flames fans, he was the one, that one, that would certainly hit home. So a tough day, 2011. Does that, does it feel like that long ago?

it doesn't feel that long ago. It really doesn't. Not at all. That was about a year or two before I joined the show with you guys. I was in the American League at that time. And Dave King, actually, we had on a couple weeks ago. He went over and coached his team within a couple of years that incident. And he talked about how that team returning to playing well was part of the healing process. And he'd be walking around the city.

Like, this is not a say goodbye and it's gone. people every day still paying tribute to this beloved team in Yoroslavo. And I know it was one of those things that when the Vegas Golden Knights won the Stanley Cup, and unless you really kind of plain attention. I lived in Brandon, I worked covering the Wheat Kings for a lot of years. So Kelly McCrimmon, the GM, the head coach, the owner, that whole thing.

His brother winning the Stanley Cup. And then for him now to be able to have his name on the cup alongside Brad. I know that was a very emotional thing as you know, you lose. a brother it's i don't know that there's anything you can't explain it i've certainly never lost a brother but for for kelly i know that was really a special thing for he and brad to both kind of have another tie uh moving forward and for the rest of their lives so sad day 2011 on this date a tragedy probably the biggest tragedy that the hockey world has ever seen this date in hockey history brought to by mcclough law proud of their calgary roots a big part of their long
