But it was the coconut creme brulee cheesecake, I think. did you that one she put up the hard the whole heisman there was just up telling everybody in the house go through hands don't be touching that just keep your filthy mitts off of that cheesecake pause away mummies so anyway just going back to my original point um what i was up there i saw on the sign i think they're up to 26 consecutive years now really they got another right yeah 26 consecutive years of southern alberta's consumer's choice award winner for best i think i saw bet through six five there like minus 10,000 to win it again. So the avalanche are still well out in front. guess the lightning have uh have done a lot of winning we'll talk about them in a little bit the canes Vegas that don't look great oilers ahead of teams like Dallas and minnesota a bit surprising i think that's the format yeah yeah Florida is well out as we said we start with who okay well you're going through them all sorry and then the kings are on the outside Montreal is their second in their division but are well down and we don't say a word about the mammoth my moot but they're in that mix as well. Okay, well, let's cross off the guys we don't,

And so how long he stays there is the update we're waiting for. Meanwhile, Minnesota, I don't think you just add Quinn Hughes and say, okay, kick your feet up.

We're good. They're going to add. And I think when you see the odds of teams that are out of it that are on this top 10, 12, there's the, okay, if it may, matters, they can do it. Like if Florida gets into this tournament and finally healthy, you have to camp out against them. Too dangerous. It's just getting in is going to be really tough. And I don't like the Kings at all right now, but they're clearly in push chips in mode. When you go add Panarin and when you've got the roster at sort of where it is in the life cycle, the last year at Coppitar,

they're going to add maybe a Rob Thomas type player like the center. So I'm not going to bet them because I like them today because I think they're adding a significant piece. The only thing I would say there is the cost wasn't prohibitive to bring in Panarin. Yeah, I think Panarin Pinsneran. It was great to do. Which is great because now you have more assets to spend. I understand, but what I'm saying is I don't know if that necessarily signals all in, like pushing all chips in. It was, it was an affordable price.

I just look at Dowell and Copartar and Kemper. It's a few times now. They're not bubbling with young players. And that's fine. You can have players that are close to retirement and not, like, they're not a play. They're not a playoff team today. I am kind of with red. I just don't. They haven't gotten out of the first. I don't know how they. overcome again i'm you're probably right they probably

will add and maybe they will improve but i just think today with the roster the way it is even with panarin they've lost you of to me that's a wash I don't go that far but it's lost you've haven't you know what I tell it in tell it out for sure Colorado Tampa Bay

Dallas and Minnesota I have way ahead of LA in today just yeah and I would too it's just at 30 to 1 I'm like ooh that's one yeah that's That's the thing with looking is the game, right? And then there's like what number do you like? Yeah. I think Montreal is going to be a significant player at the deadline too. They can be patient, but they could also push chips. And in that division, let's look at the East Stand. There is no wrong move for Montreal because they have, I believe, a cupboard full of the top system in hockey. Yes. Yeah.

And so even if they go all in, they're young enough where they haven't surer. the future. Do you know what I mean? Sometimes teams get into a situation where it's like, oh, we're gonna, we're pushing them in. Well, okay, but you're gonna be shitty for the next five years if you don't win. I don't feel that about Montreal at all.

Nope, quite the opposite. They're the youngest team in the league and have an incredible prospect covered and you can turn some of those young players into guys to help now, or you can sit back and wait another year. We'll see what they do. They won four or five prior to the break. They're pretty good on the road actually. They're better on the road than they are at home, are the, are the haves like

that for the playoffs. Detroit was nowhere to be found in that that again, it was top 12 or whatever I grabbed there. But Detroit has been, they're another one of those teams that were they're good and I think they'll add. Yeah. They finally started to turn a corner. We don't talk about Carolina at all. They're doing what they do every year. You're going to win that division. They're good and they're not terribly successful. I've got to be honest, just to a slight side note, this is not the group of teams that I expect to see on this list today at the start of the year you're like oh god no yeah Pittsburgh everyone thought would be dead islanders you were thinking montreal detroit would be fighting but there's no way you didn't have florida in one of those top three spots

He's been splendid for them. Got the extension done a couple weeks ago, 1.9 million for the two years. That's better than H.O. money, right? I don't know what else they have to do for us to get excited about them. At a star.

Tampa Bay at the top of the screen. They started December losing four in a row. They then won 11 straight. That's a good number. And are 19 one and one in their last 21 games. It's a buffalo level heater.

So to revisit the original question, how many teams there on that screen do you feel like I can see them to winning the cup? I think Carolina and Tampa. The young ones, like I love what Montreal is doing. They haven't won a series yet. So I feel like you need that seasoning. Ditto, Detroit. Boston,

I don't know that you even stay in this thing. I think a Washington. is a better team than them if they can reel them in or get in the metro that's softer. Because I feel the same as you. They haven't been in the plas for 14 years. We're talking about the east and how how strong the east is.

But then when you look at it this way, can Carolina do it? Sure. But they feel like they're a long ways away from showing the kind of what a Tampa or a Florida or those teams that have one. They don't have the player.

We didn't mention Kutrov or anything like Kuturov with Carolina. Now, that goaltender is kind of come in and have been an absolute star. And if that continues, that is hard. That can win you a Stanley Cup. That is the deep team versus the starlighting team.

And they do have seasoning. They've been through this song and dance too often. Yeah. Really? Like Detroit, they've been somehow John Gibson has refound or playing the best talking of his career. Camp Talbot too, I think. Is he not there?

16 of the last 18 starts have been John Gibson. So just riding the wheels right off. of him while he was playing well. But let's take a look at the teams on the outside. You mentioned some of those teams. I don't know what Buffalo is because they were terrible and we were laughing at them. And I called them they'd be booted. If they were in soccer, they'd be relegated.

And now they're. I think I like Washington, Ottawa, more than anyone outside of those two division leaders if they can get in. I don't like Washington. 59 games played. Ovechkins getting older. He's just not a central piece, though. I love their goalies.

If you look at his ice time. what's he playing well he plays every power play all the power play yeah which is where you want to use yeah I love Ottawa's team they just haven't been getting saves but that can change because goalies if they start getting saves Ottawa I think is one of the best teams

in the east what's the cutoff to get in sir I already forgot 72 is 69 boss 69 for both there you go yeah okay so let's jump back so Washington games played aren't helping you, but you're four points out.

You're going to have to get on a roll. Ottawa, it's a big hole to climb out of your six back. But I see them as a top four team in the east that's been getting the shittiest of goaltending. They just need a nice little run here. And that's where I 100% disagree with you. I agree with you, but I don't think they'll get the goaltending is what I'll say. No, they haven't yet. So to say they will would be a little foolish.

It's just if they could get safe. saves, that's a team I could say. If Ottawa gets saved, they could, yes. And that's, we're on the same page. The Rangers are coming. So unpack this. They get Kulak in the Skinner for Jari swap because they need to make the money work because Jari makes more than skin dog. So the Oilers had to put Kulak in that deal. Something they probably didn't want to do for free. And Calduvus is like, you need a goalie badly. maybe you get the better goal here. Maybe it's a lot of move, but I've got you over the barrel.

I'm going to take Kulak, and now he spins him into Sam Gerard, a good offensive defenseman. And Colorado gets a steady defensive force for the third pair. He's been a good playoff player, Kulak. Slot him properly. He's fine. Forever a flame. Yeah, forever a flame. Forever put on waivers.

Yeah. I don't know where Gerard's at. He was sort of viewed as an up-and-coming offensive defensemen. Gerard was behind Christ. It was even up-and-coming, because he's being there a long time. Wasn't he part of the freaking Duchenne deal?

Yeah. Yeah. He's had some. I would say that regardless, he hasn't really been the stud that was maybe expected when he came into the league.

Kulak makes 275, which is, I think, solid value for what he provides you. And I wonder what Gerard's money is here. You're going to find out, aren't you? Wait, I want to say, I feel like Montreal is closer than we think, and they have the ability to make changes. And when that city gets going and those players are also, look out for wild rides. Gerard makes five and has another year left. So Colorado accrues space here, which will allow them to make more moves moving forward. So if you feel like player to players lateral, Colorado just opened up a bunch of cap space. And I'm with you on Montreal.

They can slow play this or they can push chips now and be a beast. When you've got the number of top end prospects that they have, that's the luxury that Kent Hughes and Jeff Gordon have. Third and goals four. The net Slavkovsky is turning into a superstar. Their net is interesting. It haven't really sorted out. It's Fowler or whatever that guy's name.

Or is it a team that's flawed? And I asked the same question, what the Oilers? Because we've watched the Oilers in each of the last two seasons before this one have stretches where they look miserable and then they just kick it into gear. they're a wagon. Maybe it took you three games in the first round to get there, but they got there. I feel the same way about these teams. They're not the same teams, but both I can't look at them now and say, that's what they're going to look like in a series. I don't believe it. So Vegas can prove me wrong. Anaheim, if they win this division and play a wild-times, you're probably going to take them. Depending on who it is. One seed, yeah. But then, to me, it's all kind of bets are off. Christ's sakes, Utah might catch them and pass them. And look at Edmonton's point total, fellas. How far out of the playoffs are you in the east?

Now, they're not. They're in the weakest division in hockey. They're two seed, if you look at points. By points percentage, they're third in their division. They're eighth in the west by points percentage. But they haven't hit straight either. I feel, I'm going to say it again, I feel the same way about Edmonton as Vegas.

When you think about the three assets, they said to win a pig in the Pierluke de Bois deal. And when you think about the move they just made to get Panarin, where Liam Grinchry, their best prospect goes to New York. This is a team that has to win in the next now where they're never going to win anything. And I get that they haven't won the first round series, however many years in a row. but you just added a superstar.

You didn't add a guy. You added a point per game offensive wizard in Panarin. You've got them extended it in a nice number. You need one more centered. Dono wanted out. You got them out, but you've got to fill that hole. If you can go by field, Copatar, and one other guy in the top three there,

I love your depth. I like your goaltending. The decor is good enough. And hopefully you add to the offense of Panarin because they've struggled to score. Yeah, it's... You can make the argument. I don't say they're going to be good.

I'm saying they're going to add. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see another path for them. They're not tearing this down. They just signed Panarin. Yeah, I guess that's right. Because I do, like, Kenny Holland is going to probably do that. Yeah, it's what he's, I don't think it's necessarily the right move. I think it's all well and good that Dauty and Kopitar at the end of the line.

But I don't know that adding a top 4D or another score. Even after adding Panarin? He hasn't even played a game with him yet. Honestly, like, I see the Panarin thing. Panarin was, he controlled everything. There were two spots or three spots he was going to go to. You were one of them. You got him for a huge discount.

Great. It was like, I'll do that deal whenever. Whether I'm close or in my arc of winning or not. It's in Los Angeles. I don't think it's an indicator that they're trying to go all in. you see too many goalie prospects fail for guys to be like, oh, this is our big chip. Take our goalie prospect. No, I don't think it's going to work. They have graduated Brandt Clark from prospect, a really good player. They've started to use him a lot more on Power Play 1. He's an excellent offensive defenseman.

They don't score enough. They've addressed that with Panarin, but they lose Fiala. You need a center. If they're going to say the Pacific's wide open, why not us, they go get Rob Thomas and a first, a second, and a prospect because he's under contract for a while. He gets him a little younger and you find your

replacement for Copa Tars down at the end of the year. I don't disagree with your train of thought. I just don't know that that puts them in the... It might make you the best team in the Pacific and that might not mean you're good. That's the other thing too. You might go after a center almost

more because of Panera or Copa tar leaving and where you're going to be next year and the year after than it is. It's a natural need to begin with. It's now and future. They need centers. Because Byfield's been good, but he has not been the superstar they thought when they picked two. You thought you had. Can't get the puck out.

You've got the guys from the Rangers in Truba and Crider that played a lot of playoffs. games. You've got Radco Gudis, who's got a ton of miles and some experience.

And look like a superstar. Oh, yeah. And so it's like you have this veteran core that has been, like, I'm not necessarily as convinced that, oh, that young team needs to show me they can win in the playoffs because of all those guys. And then you sprinkle in your cutter goches and your Mason McTavish's back at Seneca. I like where they're going. Like it's, I think they're a sneaky dark horse only if they don't have to face Colorado. Like if they get one of those specific teams, it's just looking a little lazy. Yeah. I guess my point. My point. is can Nashville catch the ducks? I don't think. Maybe. I don't know.

It's not really going to change. I would have more faith, I think, in the ducks in a round one upset spot than Nashville. Yeah. Or maybe even the Kings. Ducks are fascinating.
