Starting point is 00:00:13 Thursday, Barnburner here in the McLeodlaw, LLP Studios. We are a presentation of Bet365. Be busy today, boy. Hey, the week opens. Thursday night. Get the app on your phone. Get in and the game. Whatever your bet is, it's never ordinary at Bet 365.
Starting point is 00:00:32 A little Thursday night football. You'll discuss, I'm sure, at some point. Fix today. Not sure who's playing. It's your chest out again. There it is. Well done. And if you're so inclined in the corners of the show, cash donations inside our YouTube chat will go directly or eventually to the youth centers of Calgary is how that will end up going.
Starting point is 00:00:55 Men, fellas, how are we doing? Boys, feeling all right? It's Thursday. It's incredibly busy. Is it? Yes. Okay. Kid baseball.
Starting point is 00:01:05 We've got a coaches meeting teams are assembling. Evals are done. You got a fundraiser at the youth centers of Calgary tonight. It's sales meetings, got a show to do, J's matinate 11. The youthsiders was last night. I had to deliver some tents there last night that were getting set up, and then the open houses tonight. Gotcha.
Starting point is 00:01:24 Yeah. It's also my mother who's essentially, you haven't met her like a hummingbird on speed. Right. So she gets her dates a little off sometimes. Oh, I see. So she may have had me a day early deliver the things. But I was there to help the kids, D.
Starting point is 00:01:38 I think that's handed down from generation to generation or? Can't be. I love people that pass the buck onto others. Yeah. So it's your mom. Idiot. I have a lot of ADHD traits. My mother is the poster traits.
Starting point is 00:01:54 Yeah. Okay. No, I've been tested. I didn't get the full of a green light. But there's like, yeah, there's some things here. Testing. Get out of here. Go run a marathon.
Starting point is 00:02:02 You won't have ADHD. No. That's what I'm doing today. Did you hear my schedule? That's how I stay sane. Can't be sitting around. Got to keep moving. So you got no time for.
Starting point is 00:02:11 You stay sane by an. Acting insane. That's correct. Glad you got that. Finally, 10 years, 12 years we've worked together. Long enough. Yeah, it's too much, probably.
Starting point is 00:02:20 No Thursday night football then for you. No, Bill's Dolphins. No, National Cheeseburger Bills football game. Where's our cheeseburgers? You had the alarm yesterday, Cheeseburger Day.
Starting point is 00:02:31 What do we got? Oh, they're on the way. Good. A lot of your burger joints aren't open at breakfast. That's the thing. The old show, nothing it was open. It feels like with this show, still, nothing's open yet.
Starting point is 00:02:42 Let's start later then. The hell, 10 o'clock. The only reason we ever started at 10 o'clock is because of that clown out in Ottawa. The funny thing is when he lived in Buffalo, he was really lobbying us to start earlier. And now that he's here, he wants later. Anyway, the wind blows. Yeah, I don't know what the exact answer is. We've done this for three years and it's worked.
Starting point is 00:03:07 I'm sorry the cheeseburger places aren't open. That's. Yeah. It's worked. I mean, I don't know. We could change. We could change. I'm not sure that there aren't pros and cons of other times, too.
Starting point is 00:03:20 Yeah. This is definitely, like, there's a lot of times like, oh, that's an off air, off show conversation. People might enjoy it. No one cares about that conversation. Definitely. Yeah, there's zero interest for anybody. Kind of like the end of yesterday. What were we doing yesterday?
Starting point is 00:03:35 It was painful, whatever it was. Yeah, you're drinking things on. Was it fantasy stuff? We've talked potatoes for a bit. Ten minutes of potatoes. That was the good stuff yesterday. That was fine. Talk some potatoes.
Starting point is 00:03:44 You put that on. Socials, Jack, the potato combo? That impacts people's lives. Is that gone viral yet or what? Not yet. John Bender was very appreciative of the shout-out. He and Wally. I sure Wally was up and they have cell service in three hills.
Starting point is 00:03:57 I'm not sure. Wally's up there. One hill. Thumbing through his Twitter. One of the three. Doing one of those. So yeah, we've got near the end of the program. Tommy Whelden Jr.
Starting point is 00:04:09 In conversation with almost called you, Ryan Pike. How could you do that? Ryan P is what I got. Right. And then my brain shut up. Ryan? Yeah. Right.
Starting point is 00:04:20 They got five games left in their season. They're in third. And they've got two home games left. Fan appreciation Saturday. It'd be a blast. Remarder you can join Jack and I at the elephant and castle of two. Buses there and back tickets, share plate beer. Let's go.
Starting point is 00:04:31 Nice. Show link description thingy with, go there. Feels like Jack is trying some different. Are you feeling that you're exploring the angles today? One shots, the three. Yeah. Feeling it? How does it feel today?
Starting point is 00:04:44 Well, I got to learn the buttons a little more, but I'm getting used to it. You found a new move. I found a new move. So it's like Rett's going in for coffee. Oh, bye, Rhett. Rett just got fired. Got canceled. That's off the show.
Starting point is 00:05:00 I see. What about if I go for coffee? Yeah, that's a good question. Keep drinking. He's not quick enough yet. That's for sure. I got to learn the buttons. This is weird because look at me.
Starting point is 00:05:14 He's not going to know. Well, our head's looking to go? Yeah, it is. Well, done. That's perfect. You're looking at each other. Yeah, that's great. I didn't know what you meant.
Starting point is 00:05:21 Sorry. I know. And if Ryan gets a phone call from his kids. Yeah, if there's an emergency at school. Calls. Emergency like my baseball glove dad. I need it. That's right.
Starting point is 00:05:32 We'll do some of our picks for a bet 365 coming up. That's a good shirt. Pin report. Tommy Whelden Jr. I wonder what Rets picks are going to be. It's always a huge mystery on football pick day. I added advice this morning to the three of you. You're all stupid.
Starting point is 00:05:47 and huffing and hawing and couldn't figure out what to do trust the fact that you're idiots yeah and simplified just pick okay don't overthink he said stop stewing your stupid yeah just pick you don't need to yeah you don't have to dig deep go into that big vault of yours and dive into the data of the O line play against a certain pass rush you could do a deep dive if you'd like probably it's not what you're going to two and one one and so whatever you want to to do there. Very simple. Chance to get our heads about water this week.
Starting point is 00:06:20 We'll get a rough week one. Everyone good week too. Tough slate this week. Tough about it. For people just picking names might be easy. But if you're just the lines are not, it doesn't seem a lot juicy there. Just looking at this here.
Starting point is 00:06:39 I'll stick to the clips. This isn't an interactive stream whatsoever piece, guys. Okay, see you buddy. Well, clearly it is because we've just interacted with you. Oh, shoot. I hope we didn't leave. Jack, get it back. rain of rock i hope you're there um the r orr well i don't know did we suggest that this was hey give us a call
Starting point is 00:06:57 send us a text and we'll it's not really we do that with the super chat because that's our it's we're trying to throw a few bucks up there yeah we're raising money for charity so that's how if you put the money down then we put your comment on the show well and since it's not an interactive show is there any other comments we can post check because i feel like that's let's let's just prove our cause because here's the thing if we start reading the comments it's just it's this isn't an airport you don't need to announce your department. See, there's more. There's that. Yeah. I like that. Thank you, Terry. Appreciate you. What a clown. Ha, ha, ha.
Starting point is 00:07:25 Deeper. Deeper. Yeah. And then. Yeah. And then. Yeah. Not an interactive show. Yeah. It's. What do you mean? Come on down. Yeah. Bring a burger. I feel bad if we've, if there's some false advertising there, we've suggested that, hey, we're going to be doing a mail, daily mailbag segments and text the show and feel free to call in and just come on by. And it's not really what we've ever.
Starting point is 00:07:49 been doing so maybe throw on a fluorescent construction vest and just walk right into the studio yeah you're gonna need it to get around us yeah there's a few 50 first there was a guy with a hand grinder grinding the sidewalk hand grinder just right right oh hey right sure it's important just a huge grinder too is doing the main portion I think he's working around the manholes can't grind the man no he was like doing our front step when I walked up yeah right along the ash the asphalt concrete line no on our step. Ah, very good. Yes. Like almost the concrete.
Starting point is 00:08:24 Shrapnel on your shoes right there kind of thing. Can you kick them in the face? About about it. They're, you know what? They're part of it. They're in it too. They don't want to be here. No one wants them here.
Starting point is 00:08:35 I say this, the construction people, they're killing. They're doing exactly what they should do. You want to get your revenues up. You keep constructing. They're showing up every day. You stop constructing. Revenues go down. Guess what happens is you finish the job.
Starting point is 00:08:48 Stop getting paid. That is done. Can't finish the job. Perpetual construction. Now, what are we going to do, right? Go dig up that hole. If we just dig in and keep doing this job. Nobody's watching.
Starting point is 00:08:59 I know some people are complaining, but it's not. We started this three years ago. Yeah, construction started within a month. It's the, it's the Kramer in the car with the gas running out of fuel. We're just going to keep going. So somebody says stop. We're just driving. Go.
Starting point is 00:09:17 Yes, sir. Well, some things we need to get into. Is there? Yeah, there's a few things to get into. Okay. I feel like I'd maybe want to get a sponsor out of the way. Get some room here. Have you had your consult with InvestMed yet?
Starting point is 00:09:31 Next week. Okay. We're excited. I have to do all the forms and. Yeah, would you? It's a cyst on my liver. You're going to need to do that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:40 What's this? What is an inflamed bursa sack? Is that bad? Oh, dear. Investmed. Invest. dashmed.ca is the website. Canada's first and only private medical testing company. I know what you're thinking. Okay. So let's admit.
Starting point is 00:09:53 I don't know for me. Guys, like medical, this or that, brain turns off. Yeah, I don't know what those words mean. Okay. So it's about what is it? It's a clinic or something. Well, it is, it's a clinic, but not like the ones we're used to. It's where they go the extra mile. They do the deep dive because they're smart. We're stupid. Correct. They're smart. Preventative and proactive testing gives you answers now. Rather than finding out in a year, five years, 10 years down the line, that there's something, there's an issue with your health, you find out now and you can be proactive, mitigating serious, potentially serious health, illness and risk that could be, just enjoy life. And as we get older, we talked about it.
Starting point is 00:10:35 It'd be nice to retire and enjoy life. You'd hate to go and do all this and then, oh, I guess that's you're wrapping it up, eh? Yeah, I guess enjoying life after. After you're done work, it's not going to be in the cards. Comprehensive proactive screening battery identifies individual health risks and potentially life-ending disease before it starts. Book a one-hour consultation with an InvestMed physician today for just $199. Find out how to protect your future health, invest-med.ca. Good guys, energetic, smart, young, and...
Starting point is 00:11:14 So not like us at all that. No, not like, and it's like this is doctors that have realized this is what people are going to need. You're just not going to get it down your traditional avenue. Well, no, you can go sit and emergency room for six or seven if you need. Rather not. Well, and yeah, and then you can get that test back. Oh, put you in a six-month queue. This is a much deeper dive and all of that.
Starting point is 00:11:39 So we appreciate you. They're great. I've done it. I'm glad I did it. Even the boom cat. Yeah, I had my consult last week. We're going to set something up, get in there. Good.
Starting point is 00:11:51 I'm going to let them do whatever they want. Poking proud away, boys. My body is your oyster. Feast. Feast away, ladies and gentlemen. Get on those latex gloves. I'm here for your pleasure. Pick me clean.
Starting point is 00:12:08 Oh, God. Who let this bum in off the street? That's the podcast guy. Oh, God. sir this is the front desk put your pants back on this is just checking this is a coffee shop we'll get you into clinic is next door please sir have them do a brain scandal something's up uh some kind of unexpected flames news came down yesterday as camp opens and there's three different squads and there's some rookies mixed in and then there's one team that's a lot of rookies and
Starting point is 00:12:41 guys that you assume probably rangler's kind of deal or some guys that's a little bit that's sort of thing But then there's two clubs. Like there's some real NHLers in there. And there's some guy that's in there. So, okay, so camp's opening. All right, here we go. Get on the ice boys. You got your test done.
Starting point is 00:12:52 And then an announcement comes down. A little presser as Michael Backlop, the captain of the Calgary Flames signs a two year. Year of Extension worth three. Three and two, three and a quarter five. Yeah. Now, should we be surprised because he was UFA this summer? That's what, when someone's a year away from the UFO, we always talk about, what's contract?
Starting point is 00:13:11 What are they doing? Entering the final year. Yeah. 36 years. of age. Birthday's in March, so it'll be 37 in the spring. He'll be just 39 when this contract ends.
Starting point is 00:13:23 That's a long-ass career. Just 39. Well, not just, but like you, he... He might have the most games of franchise history. He's set to pass, Iggy, if he can stay healthy. He was saying that... He says his sister, so he's like, you know, they start going from 82 to 84 games.
Starting point is 00:13:38 You got a little extra runway there, as you might be able to chase that record down to become the... I guess, like longest serving in terms of games and that, Calgary Flame of all time. He has been a guy that the first half of his career had major durability issues. Remember it was like abdominal thing and this and that. You're like, boom snapped about the pinky.
Starting point is 00:13:59 Yeah, he broke his finger. Yeah. Get about it. The last half of the career has been the opposite story. I think if you had to guess how it was going to go, it's like, well, he's going to be injury riddled because that's been the first time of his career. Maybe that's a good sign for the Zaris and Hansiks of the world, who had lots of injuries earlier,
Starting point is 00:14:14 but he's found a way to play a lot more hockey the last, what, five to seven years, I want to say? Yeah. It's not a flashy signing. He's the captain of a team that the room got way better since he took over. Remember the year before there was no captains and that was the Sutter,
Starting point is 00:14:31 everything that could go wrong, would go wrong year. But again, like, so you're kind of tying his captain seat to the team's turnaround? Well, I think he's part of a leadership group that's working. I don't know how to assign credit, but it would be weird to say he's an awful captain's, in if the room and the vibes have been almost instantly better the moment that he in a new leadership group performed.
Starting point is 00:14:48 He's part of it. Now, maybe that's the strength of great alternates. What's that right? He's never been in the room, though. Like I'm saying, I can't assign how much credit he gets,
Starting point is 00:15:00 but whether it's Huska or the leadership group or Conroy, it's a place people want to go. And that last year under Darrell and Brad, it was the exact opposite of that. So I'm going to give him a non-zero percentage. Something more than zero is. his responsibility for that. I'm not saying it's 90 or 50,
Starting point is 00:15:17 but he's been part of a solution to that problem. It'd be tough to dispute that, I would think. With you. I guess. I mean, with Connie, I mean, he's literally said. I don't know why he's in the room. To dispute it with you. What do you blabber mouth in the boat? Congratulations.
Starting point is 00:15:33 Bax. You've been great. That's wonderful. Happy for you. And now we can trade you and get something in return if we need to. Trade clause. Yeah, there's a no move thing. there. That was, that seemed to be the common thread was, I want to be a career flame. I don't want to be traded at a deadline to another team and make the playoffs there and then go into unrestricted free agency. He wants to be a career flame. He loves it here and he's placed a value on being a one jersey player. He originally had a no move turned to a 15 team on Jan 1. This gets back to Rett's
Starting point is 00:16:11 half big trade sign Rasmus and Traders. idea. When you sign an extension, they always tack on a no move. That's the practice of NHL agents, otherwise they get fired. So he now has the no full move for this year, even though that the contract. Conroy, what are you doing?
Starting point is 00:16:26 Yeah, I know. Now you can't trade your captain midseason. I think we pride ourselves on being honest and sharing our views. Do we want to do that here or do we just want to kind of report the news? Well, anyone this followed the show up for 15 to
Starting point is 00:16:41 12, whatever it is, as we've worked together. Like, I've been more of a fan of what Backin provides than you guys. And I don't think he's a star in this league. And you're certainly not paying him to be a star. He's making 3.7 next year and then 2.8 the year after. If he's your third or fourth line center, I don't really see the downside here.
Starting point is 00:16:59 He's not a star. He's not your best player. But he's been part of a successful leadership group. He wants to be here. And, like, you don't have centers. Like, who's he blocking? Justin Kirkland. I just like arguing with Pinder as much as anything.
Starting point is 00:17:11 Well, he's laying out his, yeah, Like this, I just don't think he's wrong. I don't think this is a bad deal or you could be frustrated or it's an overpay. Like you need him because you don't have centers. But that's part of the set. If you had centers, you'd probably want to move along, but you don't. Like I don't know what Morgan Frost is yet. He's only got two years.
Starting point is 00:17:30 If this team isn't good, you probably want to look around at Nazim before he gets even older because he's been great, but that's not going to last forever. And Zerry down the middle, he's getting mopped on the dot. We don't know that it works there. Reschney's probably two to three years away. Potters two to four years away if he even sticks at the wing. Hansick might not be a set. They don't have centers. So when you don't, I just see this as a really low risk move.
Starting point is 00:17:56 Yeah, there is that part because of the cap going up and the money and all this. Sure. I guess I was just curious as to why now. He is 36. Let's get into the season and let's see how things. go. You know we love you. You're our captain for Pete's sake. But what if, ooh, he is a step slower in November, December. Well, his contract is up at the end of the year. Right. You do lose that option for sure. What if you are well out of the playoffs?
Starting point is 00:18:29 Yeah. Wanted to trade him. And back then is happening. What if he was playing well? I think that's his call. But from the team's perspective, because they, they are right. It's a 15 team no trade. There's a chance that there is a trade. I don't, you're not getting a first or whatever. But that's, again, that's an option that's gone.
Starting point is 00:18:47 Mm-hmm. You have Cadry, who is 35 with four more years. Now you've got Backland 36 with three more years. Frost at two and no one else. Frost is 26. I just, you've got two.
Starting point is 00:19:04 But he's you at the end. You've got two guys in their late, mid to soon to be late 30s, signed to the end of their 30s. Yeah. Signed to their, the end of their 30s. 30s.
Starting point is 00:19:14 You could afford it. He's a good guy. He's your captain. I just, I don't know why. You know what? It's nice. It is.
Starting point is 00:19:23 It's nice. Didn't feel like it's, is it improving the team? I'm not, and I'm indifferent because it's not that much money. We're rebuilding. Yeah, we don't have centers.
Starting point is 00:19:36 Well, but that's what you're now in the process of, of doing. Yeah, we need to get better at the center position. Michael Backin's not going to get better. at center than he's been or is. He's probably a three on a contender
Starting point is 00:19:47 and he'll be a four seat at the end of this deal. Unless he ages like brilliantly, which is kind of done to this point. But you do worry about guys every year after 30, never mind a year after 35. Yeah. And I would say that's best case is that he's your three, four center.
Starting point is 00:20:07 It would be an awkward spot where your captain is signed at the age of 39 and at 37 and a half it's like we can't put him in the lineup. Yeah, that'd be next fall. So they're clearly confident that that's not going to happen or they wouldn't sign this. And why did they do it now? I think back in one of the head is to add insight as to what you feel. Yes, they're clearly confident.
Starting point is 00:20:27 They just signed. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And your, you're. Because I'm curious, it's, this feels like one of those signings where if it was a different player or a different spot, you would be critical of it. And this, I'm not coming at you. It's a team that's looking to get younger. If it's Nick Felino, it's like, why are you signing this guy to another
Starting point is 00:20:45 two years. He's got a year left. That's what I was just going to say. No, this isn't a move of contender makes it all. It just isn't. And I think that's why I have no problem with it. Like if when the Oilers bring in a Skinner and Arvards Center, and you're crushing them, like this isn't that different. It's guys that you know are well into the back nine,
Starting point is 00:21:03 but they're not going to fumble a championship over this 3.25 million. And if there were kids of knocking on the door at center, I really don't think they do this or they're not as keen and they take their time. there just isn't. Like, can you name one player beyond Cole Rushney that you know is a center that's in their system? I don't think you can. But you can trade for them. You could try.
Starting point is 00:21:27 They've been trying for three years and all they got was a frost. And I don't know that Frost is any better than Backlin, even though he's a decade younger. Like, Backlin still is way heavier lifting in terms of playing other top lines. It's not like Frost is scoring 2530. He helped his own entries on the power play. Probably get a little bounce back into shooting percentage. Would you not rather put some, like, stock in? into a 26 year old?
Starting point is 00:21:46 It's an odd take. Oh, no, no, no. I like them getting frost, but frost didn't supplant backluck. Like, they're kind of did similar jobs. Well, he was here for half a year. Right. And so you're hoping he'll pass,
Starting point is 00:21:57 but if you had three or four frost, you don't make this sign. You got one. This signing to me is almost nothing about need. It's about friendship. So you're saying, they don't need to win right now. They're not a contender.
Starting point is 00:22:12 Yeah, he's a center, but what are they going to hold his, feet to the fire, backland at the end of this year is going to come in and go, I need 10 million or I'm leaving it? And you're going to go. No, they like, I think they put a lot of stock in the leadership and
Starting point is 00:22:26 I think they put a lot of stock. He's moving up the corporate ladder. I think it's making. You've been a good soldier. You've been here. You want to be here. We like you. You like us. I feel like it's very little about hockey. It's very little.
Starting point is 00:22:43 It's not near as much about Michael Backlin makes us better at the center spot. I mean, he does. Does he? Well, if it's him or Kirkland, you tell me, like, I know, but if it's him or Kirkland, are they leading you to playoffs? No.
Starting point is 00:22:56 That's where I... And so we're in agreement on that. This team, we don't think is a contender. And sometimes they act like they are. And other times like this, this doesn't feel like the type of move that the abs, the Panthers would make. Oh, okay. I see what you said.
Starting point is 00:23:09 Because they're kind of giving us mixed messages, right? Yes. But I think of when they're being really honest and looking in the mirror, they understand that when this team is a sustainable contender, which is what they're trying to build, but all teams are trying to build. Backland's not a core player.
Starting point is 00:23:23 It's going to be the Wolf, Reshny, you know, hopefully one of these wingers in Gridden and Bash. It comes harder and harder to be the captain, though, when you're not a core player. I think that's fair. We're just hashing us out. I'm not, at that money and where, what he's done for the organization and the,
Starting point is 00:23:38 sure. I agree with that. It is hard to have a voice if your role gets continually minimalized. And so if you get the backland you had last year, that's not an issue. He played the toughest minutes of any center on the team, some of the toughest center minutes in the league. 93rd percentile difficulty of opponent. I know that doesn't mean anything to you, and it doesn't have to.
Starting point is 00:23:58 But what it means is that when you have to play McDavid in division, when you have to play McKinnon in the central, those are very tough. He's still carrying that weight. And until they've got someone that can do that, he's still their best option to defend a top line. They missed playoffs. Yeah, by a tie break, yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:20 Don't care. No, like, hey, I'm not telling you that contenders. Did I win the Stanley Cup? No. Oh, you should probably. It's not a, it's one or the other. You either made it or you didn't. Right.
Starting point is 00:24:30 And so I think what the team is trying to balance is the full tear down, we can't be Buffalo. But also, you know, it helps if we're in the mix because bottom line's good. when we fill the building and we'll try to accumulate as many young pieces as we can but he's not a young piece right and so how long with four years left on nasum cadres deal do you expect him to be here i would get rid of both of them right now that's my whole point yeah that's and i'm turning the corner they're not and i think what they're saying is you can't strip it that bear like when we saw taylor hall and mcgit like macabre there just wasn't elder statesman to show the kids and i'm i'm
Starting point is 00:25:12 I don't think you think. They don't even have kids to show. Well, they will soon. They've got five really good prospects in the Wranglers this year. So I think it's going to be happening. It just told us that there's no center. There's no centers. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:25 Resny's their best center prospect and he's playing at North Dakota this year. Like Hansik maybe he's a center. You could try Zerriot. It didn't look good last year. If you get crushed on the dot, you're chasing the whole shift. He was the worst face off guy by a mile. It buys them time to find young centers. But I yeah, and at the same time.
Starting point is 00:25:45 And I do, I didn't want to break because I knew it was going to feel like it's two on one and we've got you. I don't think this is awesome. It's not two on one because I'm indifferent to the contract. It's quite honest. You had time, but you didn't use it. Well, I think that's, you could have got into the year and seeing how the year goes and see what the young kids are at all the levels. He's not made for a nice. And he's not begging for or he's not holding a.
Starting point is 00:26:07 He wants to stand. He can't command more money. He wants to stay like you already know all this. Yeah. If he demands a trade, it's okay, well, where do you want to go? It's not really where you're over the barrel in any way. No, I agree on the time. It was a nice thing to do for Michael Backwood.
Starting point is 00:26:22 Yep. And he's still a good hockey player. Yeah, and he's not a star. And he's not this, he's not your prototypical captain. But there is no one on the roster that can do the hard checking minutes at Center Ice. so it buys you two and a half seasons to see if you can groom someone else into that. Maybe that's Morgan Frost. But he's a you in two years and maybe it's not for him here.
Starting point is 00:26:49 He just keeps being a guy that you wish scored more and is a 3C. I don't know. Are we completely out to lunch that we think they can't? Like the vibe that just picking up our vibe on this conversation is that there's zero chance they're making the playoffs, in our opinion. Yeah, I think it's probably pretty slow. Yeah, but I'd. I don't have them as a playoff team. No, I don't either.
Starting point is 00:27:17 I think they can absolutely finish ninth to 11th in the West. They've been really good at that over the last 30 years. But that's the issue I have is that this speaks to doing that again. Yeah, I think more not trading Rasmus and Cadry speaks to that because it's, but they haven't done any of them. This is putting another. It's right. Just kind of keeping it going.
Starting point is 00:27:37 Let's keep this train moving down the track, even though this train has not produced any results for it. I agree. I think in that room they're saying one point was the difference between us in the playoffs, and we're going to find a way to be one point better, and I don't agree that they're a 96 or 7 point team this year. But if you really want to get worse, trading Michael Backlain will help,
Starting point is 00:27:59 but moving Nazim and Rasmus is a real change and a shift of the guard. But even I would be even more accepting of the, accepting what the hell do I have to say? You're, it's a matter of stress. What you like matters. I would, it would make more sense to me signing back than if Godry and them had lost. Because you're going, oh, well, we've lost some of our leadership group and our veterans. Now we're short of that.
Starting point is 00:28:23 Yeah, you've got a veteran center who's in his 30s. Yeah. You've got him till he's 39. Maybe that is them telling us about a hedge of sorts that if things don't go well, and Asim's on the block, this maybe, but you're right. It is cart before the horse of it. Yeah. You could always just sign Backland at that point.
Starting point is 00:28:42 Yeah, the timing of the deal isn't for a guy that wants to be here and that wants to be a one jersey guy, you could do this one ever. And I don't think if Backland was a U in December, it would be like, oh, this is a distraction for the team. I don't think Backlin is. Yeah, it's not like the Rasmus situation. We talk about it all the time. Oh, a distraction. This is not a guy who was going to be a distraction in any way. No, it wants to be here.
Starting point is 00:29:06 And you could have gone one year at a time. I'm sure, but I just get the sense. Sure, they could play over their skis again and win games. They have no business winning because their goalies better than the other guy and be greater than the sum of the individual parts again. Not easy to do. Probably still won't make it anyway. But if this team gets off to a not five and no start, like flip it around, 0 and 5. I think Nazim's on the block.
Starting point is 00:29:33 That's my gut. And I like Nazim and he's been a great flame. but I think if the standings tell you something in November, you can't keep playing this for a one point out thing. Now maybe they'll be in it, but if they're out, now it's let's get what's the ask on Rasmus? Someone's got to meet our ask and who needs a two-seat? Everyone gets harder if you're shit in the bed.
Starting point is 00:29:53 Yeah. Kind of a separate thought. It gives you a clear direction, though, last year they didn't have that. Separate thought on on cadre. He has really gone from untradable. Now a few more years have gone off that deal and the cap is gone up. He's like, well, you can fit that money.
Starting point is 00:30:09 And it's four years a lot, but it's if you're a piece away, three in a bit, dude, he makes a lot of teams better at two C. Doesn't he? Like contending teams that are like, burn the bridges, we got to win now. He's a great ad. There's not many contenders that wouldn't be better with Nazim Kodry.
Starting point is 00:30:26 You have to be three centers deep than not, most teams aren't. So is that going to be our thing? What you could get for Kodry and Anderson. If they're bad, that is the thing. Yeah. It should be no matter It should be, but it is.
Starting point is 00:30:38 Yeah, right? Yeah. That's what it is. I mean, because somewhere in the middle is the truth and you're not behind in the room, like you say, we're not there. Backland is probably a very good presence for the,
Starting point is 00:30:51 he probably sets a great example and all. We know that. And they're probably loath to think, we don't want to finally get some higher end talent in here and just have them fending for ourselves. We're coaches. They don't need to hear, they're here,
Starting point is 00:31:05 from us. We need some guys in who are in the lineup that go out and eat right, play right, do things the right way that they can take their, take their lead from. So he's does get to a point where, sorry. And then the flip side to me is I'm ready to turn the roster over. Yeah. This is San Jose. It's, it let, let the kids try fail. Sure.
Starting point is 00:31:31 Frost may never. Go ahead. Just get some reps. Let's get younger. let's let's get younger so this is just another yeah to that end and i think if hansick was a center in the a and like a good one that's knocking on the door we don't see this and i think if the bash of gridden sunnihves were centers not wingers or zeri really excelled at center excuse the organization for not filling those needs like to say well we're just going to keep
Starting point is 00:31:57 it sounds chintzy because i hate we're sounds like we're taking cheap shots at back i'm not He is what he is, and he's good, and he's good in the community. But if backlands is the cog in the wheel as your sentiment, and you have not, and you're saying all these other names, Wingers. Where are they? They're still not close in terms of a young core that you build around. Their best players are still old.
Starting point is 00:32:24 Like, that's just it. Like, I think in this conversation, what I'm learning is that this team is exposed. Stuck in the middle, right? They do not have, like, the argument and the interactive portion of the show will be you're an idiot we've got backland and cadre and frost down the middle and i'm going to say no you're an idiot those aren't those are supplementary pieces yeah they're center depth that'd be bottom five in the league if not worst like nazim best lot of this two he's up one wrong backland last year i would have said on a contender he's a three he's up one line above where he should be frost i'm not quite sure on we got to give them a little more time shooting percentages out of whack saw some stuff you liked also didn't notice them as much as you'd hope probably when that deal was made
Starting point is 00:33:11 and then it's like yeah who's your fourth line center anyway like hospital center didn't really stick zerry didn't really stick kirkland feels like a quad a guy i worry less about the fourth center no i just play your eight minutes right run around and kirkland's fine to don't get scored on a ton yeah that'd be great but yeah it's it's it's clearly more complicated than just saying go get young centers because that's basically what Connie said is opening press conference and he found one guy. Yeah. So that's that.
Starting point is 00:33:41 Caps open. Split squad game coming up on Sunday with the Oilers who have some centers. Not sure they'll play that game, but yeah. Yeah. They might play the home game. They currently have some centers. They got like four or five of them. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:57 Yeah. Yeah, they got a couple up there. Yeah. Because it's good to have like strength down the middle. right yes i like the flames down the middle of the crease um that's fine the jama mcclennon the spine of the team yeah like where the nets going and somehow with this group that everyone was overslaught at center got 96 points like did they ever shatter everyone's expectations can they do it two times in a row and they definitely the one thing in a weird way it feels
Starting point is 00:34:30 like they overachieved last year and when we talk about that overachieve based on where we thought we were going to be and yeah and then if you so do they have any guy did they have any players that could have a bounce back from a bad season well there's plenty sure you can get more out of joel farabee you can get more out of sherin govich you can get more out of frost you can have zary healthy for a longer period of time you've got saying per rec who's who could be an asset or maybe he's not ready we'll watch and see what was that i forgot what i was going to do damn i was looking something up that was pertinent to our conversation. Damn.
Starting point is 00:35:02 Do I just wait? No, it won't help. Oh, no, it doesn't help to wait. You just have a little loading screen? Yeah, we could just screen. Rett, brain loading. You got any music to play, Jack? Any instrumentals?
Starting point is 00:35:14 Some of the game show time killing music? Maybe the final Jeopardy. What the hell was I? What the hell was like? Sorry, it's going to be so in place. Excuse me. It's on your phone. No, I didn't even get to be.
Starting point is 00:35:30 Is it good to do it? Improving from your year? That's gone. Eric? Last year, I think bet 365 had that. That's what I was going to do. Thank you. What are the odds?
Starting point is 00:35:46 Because last year it was 81. 84 and a half. They still think they're not good, but a little better. And I understand. That makes sense to me, given what you saw from the goal. You did not know what you had in Wolf. You were hopeful, but you didn't know how soon he would look like an elite goalie if he did it all. He looked like an elite goalie pretty much the whole year.
Starting point is 00:36:01 Don't discount the fact that I don't. Rasmus anderson won't be here at the end of the year. I better not be he might be there better be a blood oath between the owner and the GM that that guy gets traded and then the trade better be good yeah yeah or we'll be unhappy then we're not trade him because he sucks yeah it's an Olympic gear really motivated Rasmus yeah it's not going to be a distraction how about the guy up north is that guy a distraction I don't know who I don't know they can go into any media availability from now until
Starting point is 00:36:35 Old Melba? There's a lot of talk. MT. Yeah. Not going to talk about it. There's an awful lot of talk. A lot of interviewing and talking and questions about things that. It's like, well, of course there's going to be.
Starting point is 00:36:46 He's the best player in the world. And wants out of Edmonton. Well, we don't know that. All right. He certainly hasn't extended in Edmonton. There's been a long window for him to say, I love it here and I'm resigning and he has not done that yet. Yeah, he's not making it super easy. No.
Starting point is 00:37:02 And neither's caprice of. neither is Kempe Eichel. I mean, they're not like Becklin. We should be grateful to backlens. Lee, Backlin, nice guy. We're complaining that maybe didn't need to happen. Different player, too. These other putzes, they're holding it up.
Starting point is 00:37:18 I looked at it. Like, do you want a quick rundown of some free agents next summer? Because it's not just McDavid and Caprizo. So it's not a dog's breakfast? We can actually. You like Cal Connor? 40 arrears? These teams end up signing there, guys.
Starting point is 00:37:30 Well, they had before. Eight times out of 10, it feels. Before the cap skyrocketed. What the hell else you want to talk about? Cheeseburgers? No, I was just saying. Just switch to me back to you. Kyle Connor, you like him?
Starting point is 00:37:41 40 a year, no sweat. He's coming here. I'm not saying he's going anywhere near Calgary. I'm saying he's free agents. Okay, well, can you, okay. I'm going to make this all makes sense. These are free agents in a year. Marty Natchez, who had a breakout with Colorado and then a ho-hum playoffs.
Starting point is 00:37:55 Sounds like he already wants out. He wants out of everywhere. Reports are that he's already saying, you know what? And he's still saying he's a center and he's still getting played on the way. Well, he's going to get traded here for cadre. Kempay and Eichel say they're keen to resign where they're at. Those are the outliers at this point, but they're not done. Caprizov's going to be a fascinating one.
Starting point is 00:38:12 Bill Garron said, I don't discuss negotiations. He's our star player. We're trying to get him done. I'm Bill Garan. I'll punch you in the mouth. Your boy Alex Tuck, Buffalo's own. He's up in a year. He's beat up.
Starting point is 00:38:23 Jim Schwartz in Seattle. Adam Lowry, there's a center. Calgary boy. You wouldn't want him over? You definitely want him. Go get him on. Take that three. million.
Starting point is 00:38:34 Yeah, they got lots of caps face. That's not going to be a problem. All right. Back one doesn't block Lowry. I'm going to show you that. Interesting. Those are the names? They're tying players.
Starting point is 00:38:44 None of them have deals. Because normally you're right. They all resign like Sid signed a year ago at this time. We're in Penticton. Three year deal. Still may, right? It's they've had since July 1 to do so. They haven't done it yet.
Starting point is 00:38:56 The season is not here. And it's a new cap universe. That's the, that's the kicker. Is it all of a sudden it's like, there's a lot of new money out there. Yep. The old numbers aren't going to be the new numbers, and the new numbers look too big to the GMs,
Starting point is 00:39:10 and the agents are like, that's what I called. Percentage of cap, keep moving it. That's what I called our guys instead. That's right. You called who, what? Our guys are the big ones. The bosses, yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:21 There's lots of money out there. Yeah, go get it, boys. Yeah. Give me some. Yeah, that's tough negotiator. Spend it on lab grown diamonds. That'd be my recommendation. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:32 Yeah. Get blinked out. Getting a lot of pressure from the woman that I live with. Don't succumb to it. When are we? I would like to go and look at bracelets. When are we going? It's going to cut into my laying around doing nothing schedule.
Starting point is 00:39:49 Didn't you see me working in the backyard here, honey? Did you see that? Digging up to this yard. Get your ass. It doesn't happen on its own or by spending a lot of money to get other people to do it. Or maybe there is that. Maybe it's one of those ways, how it works. Calgary's lab-grown diamond specialist.
Starting point is 00:40:06 It's Vina Nova. They are in the market mall with the largest selection of lab-grown diamonds in Canada. Oh, not just the city, not just the province, the country, Canada. Earrings, engagement rings, necklaces, bracelets, apparently. Lab-grown diamond, they don't dig it out of the ground like it's gross. Ew. Piece of trash.
Starting point is 00:40:31 No, it's grown in a lab. It's perfect with the same chemical. composition and crystal structure. Life chemicals. How do you feel about light refraction? You like that? It's important for a diamond. It's the same as an earthmind. Yeah. And the bonus is they are anywhere from 50 to 70%
Starting point is 00:40:46 less expensive than earthmind. The technology keeps improving. It's more efficient. It becomes more affordable for us, the purchasers. Visit the showrooms in Marketball, so much parking. Pretty easy, boys. So easy. What are you dragging your feet about? Seems like something you could send a market mall.
Starting point is 00:41:04 The room, she's a bit of a cherry picker there. It's like, well, it's not an on-air conversation. Okay. It's good precedent to set. Next time you start prying on our lives. Shut up, Dean. Just shut it. Venanova.com is the website.
Starting point is 00:41:21 And yeah, if you say you get a gift, like a gift card or whatever for Vena Nova, they're probably going to want to go and exchange that for goods. At some point. At some point. You don't need to run it by boom. You can just talk to Justin. He knows what he's doing. Yeah, they'll much better that he understands how it works.
Starting point is 00:41:38 That's right. Yeah. Yeah. That's correct, sir. Pinda report time. Let's do it. All right. Brought to you by Village Honda.
Starting point is 00:41:50 I got good parking there too. Oh, yeah. You guys have bragged about the coffee. I've never had it. Oh, two foot putz red. Come on. It's right there. You can even go 50-50 on the two blends.
Starting point is 00:42:02 I was going to say it's not just the quality. It's the options. Yeah. It's like, well, how much do you want cream? Do you want this? Do you want mocha in there? You want some espresso? You want home?
Starting point is 00:42:09 espresso real good what do you need cartado i love a cortado macchiato and it does it right there for you turkish delight as well i've tried that move it's a turk i kind of spun it together it's turk i had a turkish coffee but they actually give you a move move here village honda located in the northwest autum mall and online at village honda just so we're all clear a village honda not a coffee shop not a coffee shop no with great coffee stop in for a coffee Everything's great. With a new rig. That's how you do it.
Starting point is 00:42:43 Yes. I'm glad that's clear. Let's go to Flamesnation.com. What are the writers writing about, Ratt? Backlund. A little bit of backland. A little bit of... A little bit of backland on our side.
Starting point is 00:42:53 A little bit of panicale. Gotta be better. Conroy, I was a 30-year-old center and someone gave me money and look how happy I am. Adrian Kess with the article in the Flames P-K. I recall getting a lot better after they brought the sheriff up from the American League.
Starting point is 00:43:13 Trent Cole. Have a good penalty kill. It really was the one thing that didn't fit. I don't want to get too into it because it's very nerdy. But if you told me that you didn't allow a lot of goals and you had great goal thing, I'd say that team probably is a great penalty kill. It really didn't go that way for the flames. Did he?
Starting point is 00:43:28 Did Cole grow the stash back? Remember, at the end of the year, he shaved it off and we were ticked right off. One of the playoffs. Selfish. That's the tie break. Who's got the better mustache? They lost the tie break. Kind of selfish there, Cole.
Starting point is 00:43:40 Don't mind telling you. Yeah. Anyway. Okay, we'll move. The Backland deal. Everyone's happy to flame social media. It's got a signature right there. Yeah, they did the,
Starting point is 00:43:51 they're doing that now and all these new pieces are. Congrats. Mikhail. The salary changes year over year. The cap hit does not. That's how the NHL system works. I thought I was going to get one of these sweetheart deals and then they just here's your garbage bag.
Starting point is 00:44:06 I think you got paid to not play for you. That's kind of sweetheart. dream about that. No. No. Okay. This is the no move thing that. I wasn't aware of this, that you can kind of happens all the time, which is why the
Starting point is 00:44:21 Rasmus retchiccanary would never happen. But yeah, if you're an agent, you don't leave yourself a six months window and then. Oh, so these agents are so smart. They're going to be an agent. It's better than us. You ever thought about being an agent, right? I have. How'd that go for you?
Starting point is 00:44:38 It's a hard pass. these young kids and their families weren't impressed by your Pulver. Vim and vigor. I don't like kissing ass. Yeah, I know. You got to kiss them. I struggle with it. Oh, it's 14-year-old. You're going to be great. And I have to talk some of the, the agents. I can't imagine how annoying someone like me would be.
Starting point is 00:44:59 I can. This old, just shut up. I got a good idea. Oh, Warner again. Fifth call of the day. How's camp going? What kind of drills is your car? coach running. I'm the agent. I don't know what. Well, he's an idiot. Well, you got to go talk to the coach.
Starting point is 00:45:20 I thought that's what you were there for. Now, I can't call. There's a superstar that we talked about who's a year, less than a year away from free agency. He's arguably the greatest player while watching our lives. He's yet to win a cup, but he would never leave. Superstars don't leave spots. That's why he was excited. You don't do that. You'd never see a guy leave. with Oh, there's Wayne as a King and Moose with the Oilers. The Moose.
Starting point is 00:45:50 Is that next year with McDavid and Drysidal? Because they were pals too. Oh, no. Oh, man. Maybe not. Maybe Connor stays. Like that great oiler.
Starting point is 00:46:02 Let's listen to Connor. He's totally staying. He looks excited. Yeah, totally. Last one for me on this, Connor, is just what do you want to see? Like, when I'm sure you've told the Oilers, this is important to me.
Starting point is 00:46:13 This is what gets me to commit for however long I decide to commit. What is that? Yeah, that's a good question. You know, truthly, what do I need to see? I guess the answer is nothing. You know, all the pieces are here for 25, 26. It's going to be a feeling. You know, it's going to be a, you know, when the time's right, the moment's right,
Starting point is 00:46:46 I think it'll just be a feeling. But as right now, just excited to get the season going, really. Yeah, that would be too. That's tough interview. Does that sound like a guy ready to get the pen out? You wanted to play three minutes of that for the record. No, I think we should have because it's one of those things.
Starting point is 00:47:09 We're just like, oh, you. It's so painful. Poor sap. It's like Ricky Jervais. And it's just slow. Each paragraph, there's one little takeaway, but each takes a minute. It's tough. To be honest.
Starting point is 00:47:21 Not that. I see both sides. You got to ask him. And he's going to answer. In a sort of delicate way. So you're leaving? You're getting out of here? You're going to ask to be traded?
Starting point is 00:47:33 You can decide. There's that way. And then there's, I've done these interviews so many times. I'm so sick of talking about this. Yes. I kind of need to watch how I say it because it'll be clickbait and people. freak out. So nothing.
Starting point is 00:47:48 If you're an Oilers fan and you were sure, Leon signed Conner's Day and this is a dynasty, like that is not encouraging. He might still resign there, but... Ask AI to analyze his facial expressions when he's lying. AI's peaked. Mark, I told me that yesterday on the show. We need, uh, we need so like, get some,
Starting point is 00:48:05 they have FBI in Canada? Yeah, who does, uh, really come in and do some interrogate them, mind-weld interrogators. Like, what are you, what do you see in here? Does keep saying, like, I'm committed. to Edmonton 25, 26. I was going to say that's the one thing. My family, we've earned the right.
Starting point is 00:48:22 25, 26, committed to Edmonton. He's not going to ask for trade. He's an oiler this year. But it does open up the most painful thing on earth, which would be watching a superstar who might be the best player over to play, leaving for nothing. At what point does he say F off with the interviews?
Starting point is 00:48:40 Pretty quick here. I think once the game's still. Like Camp is now starting. The PR communication guys are about to earn their dough in Edmonton once the season starts. Yeah. Every city he walks into will be massive scrums. Hey, Carter. I mean, Rass was Anderson.
Starting point is 00:49:00 Distraction, potentially. Yeah, a little bit. That. Destraction. Yes. I mean, every, how was practice today? Was practice good? Because it needs to be good.
Starting point is 00:49:10 Because everything, 25, 26. I was going to say, because he has brought that up multiple times. He's got a year. He's committed to the rest of this year. This year. I'm here. And to his credit, he's not saying much more than that, but he's letting it be known. I want to see what this season holds and I'm going to make my decision. Bad start, good start, bad goals, power.
Starting point is 00:49:34 All that stuff is going to be so highly scrutinized. Yes. Because everything, according to him, seems to hinge on this season. Big time. So everything is going to be under the microscope there. And you know what's great? I should have clipped it the other day. I might have said it's Jack on the weekend.
Starting point is 00:49:52 We are getting state media reports out of Edmonton that Stuart Skinner is in the best shape of his life. No. Best shape? He's cut weight. He looks different. He's moving. He's reinvented himself as a late 20-year-old
Starting point is 00:50:05 goaltender who probably is best served as a 1B. Maybe he's a 1A. Yeah, I read that before. It turns out he was catching with the wrong hand. Oh, shit. Well, he'll be on which side. Yeah. We'll probably get to change a stick, too, so that'll even help his puck handling.
Starting point is 00:50:18 Let's see that. That's so hot. There it is. You still got it. Those reflexes. I don't want to go too far down that, but. Oh, God, I'm grateful that. There's been many a kiss of death on the best shape of his life in camp reports.
Starting point is 00:50:36 That's worse than being on the front of Mad. Yeah, I think that's the stronger curse. I agree. That's why we have never come out. In either. You will never hear any of us telling you about being. Madden or Best Shape. No.
Starting point is 00:50:50 We're not going to win. You've been training on here. From Mick David to Mick Tavish, the Anaheim ducks in their budding star centermen still don't have a contract for this season. Pick him up. Pick him up. Come on, Conroy. Anheim doesn't.
Starting point is 00:51:07 You just heard it from Pinder. You don't have any center. This is the type of center you're going to want to get. And Pat Verbeek's going to hang up on you because he wants to screw this guy into a contract that's good for the ducks. That makes you honest. And so here's Mason, who was quite good last year on the most improved team in the
Starting point is 00:51:22 NHL, I believe, by points year over year. That sucks. Off to the Ottawa 67s. He'll be a great 67, Dean, except I think he's too old. He's from Ottawa. He played for the Pete's, I believe, in Peterborough. Pete? No, he didn't.
Starting point is 00:51:40 This one's for Pete. He played for Jay McKee. which is well it was Brantford it's Brantford now it was Hamilton
Starting point is 00:51:50 was Mason McTavish not a Peterborough Pete as a junior it's not important I guess we don't do our rounds out there
Starting point is 00:51:59 it's a lot of our region I can do the voice ask where did it where did Mason McTavish maybe probably where did Mason McTavish play junior hockey
Starting point is 00:52:11 kind of insight you get when you come to this show. Tell me it's not interactive. It's right. Oh, it's still going. It's not where it means. It appears you are reacting to the weather forecast. Yeah, AI is peaking. My goodness gracious.
Starting point is 00:52:35 You can't move on until we. Oh, yeah. It appears. Yes, that's what I'm reacting to. Yeah. Where did Mason McTavish play junior hockey? Sure you did. What's that?
Starting point is 00:52:50 You want to cook sausages for dinner? Sausage. Yes, I recommend. Cherizo. Yeah, Peterborough. Told you. Suck it, Dean. Didn't know Jay McKee was coaching the Pete's.
Starting point is 00:53:02 Can you pay attention? Please. Have we confirmed that or was just completely? I played for the Pete's. Did he get traded? I don't know. I don't think so. I think you might be thinking of a different player.
Starting point is 00:53:15 I'm sure there has been a highly drafted. One McTabish out there. Craig's boy. It's not a Craig's kid. What? No, it's not. Smell different. No, it's, you guys.
Starting point is 00:53:24 Boy. You guys need food. So how do you spell it? MC. Yeah. T-A-V-I-S-H. You know, his dad was the last guy. He's not his dad again.
Starting point is 00:53:36 I played against him. Jack, can we move on or do we have to solve this? I don't even know what he's looking for now to see if it's his kid? Like, the name's not even. felt the same. He only played one. Yes, Hamilton, 24 games, told you. Where else did he play? Where else did he play? Boom cat. Where else did he play?
Starting point is 00:53:56 Peterborough. Thank you. And Pembroke. Oh, Pembroke Lumber Kings. And also in the Swiss elite. Okay. And soon, not the Ottawa 67. Ottawa 67's practice roster. That's great. What a championship with the Hamilton Bulldogs. Yeah, he did. And the San Diego goals. Good for him. He's a winner.
Starting point is 00:54:17 sign them pick them up offer sheet they should pick them up what are you doing Craig you're gonna give up four firsts for that guy then you're not offer sheet number well if they're gonna be in the 11 to 16 range you may as well yeah i don't know i still think there's plenty of room to be bad i get the off sheet thing it's just when a player's this good you're gonna have to offer a lot of money for them to sign it and the more money you offer the more picks go to the other team yeah at that level it's very hard to justify offer sheets actually work better at the bottom end of the pay structure. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:54:53 You're terrible for. Let's go to the Toronto Blue Js, Rhett, a team that you love. Finally, a team I sat down and watched. If they won, I was going to wear my Donaldson today. See what I'm wearing? There's the hound on the left.
Starting point is 00:55:05 Chris Bassett, he's starting this afternoon. Look at this three. What is the Bassett? That's not, yeah. Explaining the joke, Dean hates that. Free. 1110 first pitch. Three plugs for Katie.
Starting point is 00:55:18 Give it one of those. Appreciate. that Ernie Clement three total bases last night. Thank you, Ernie. Standings look like this in the American League. Look at Toronto right at the top there, Ryan. Pretty tidy. Four game lead atop the American League for that first seed and buy. And a nice bulge over the Yankees, Dean, your Yankees. Just two games?
Starting point is 00:55:45 More than that. They're two back of Houston. They're two up on the second wild card, I should say. Two ahead of Boston. Either five back. I don't know. It's very complicated. You did just say four. I was just disappointed that they didn't perform last night.
Starting point is 00:56:00 Yeah. I don't know. And you get down to watch a game and you blow it. Do have a game in hand. And my kids were making fun of the stadium. First thing you notice. What's this dump? I do not have a game in hand.
Starting point is 00:56:10 They both have played an even number of guys. Here are the odds for today. This afternoon's matinee. We get your bets in earlier, folks. First pitch is like right now. Who you like that? he likes the race because he's a turd Yankees fan clinging to the memories of yesterday decade
Starting point is 00:56:26 run line one in the half the Yankees were big in Manitoba those Jews unlike those Jays fans not actually good not exciting yes Joe Carter touch them all Joe no never hit a bigger one
Starting point is 00:56:39 go to the NFL Thursday nighter Rets Bills against uh oh are they playing there's no past glory to cling on to here none wide right wide left we've done it all shit four in a row prime video man i love prime that's in the states you'll get it on tsn oh all right that's all you need to know but it's the prime broadcast watch your mouth which i actually discerned yesterday that i'm paying for two primes so that was good prime squared and two
Starting point is 00:57:08 apples he's like prime time he's doing twice i believe three netflix you can't have them go down now you're left then it happens yeah i don't want to have to remember a password. That's insurance folks. Just sign up again. Odds showing that yes indeed the bills are heavy favorites. Are we fuzzy?
Starting point is 00:57:29 No, that's just a lot. Well, of course the bills are heavy favorites. Their favorite to win it all, right? 11 and a hearth is the line. Fish have been awful in two games. A lot of points, but what am I going to do? They did put up some, finally, Miami last week put up some points.
Starting point is 00:57:45 Ed Oliver's out. Sunny Milan. I was going to say Milano's out again he's always heard but Josh Allen so some injuries on the Alan was just I mean it was the run game last week also does they have a good run game cookie cookie well then shut up don't criticize Alan shovel come in here with a shovel straight new out ping do you have a subscription to Alan sucks with his broken nose have you been watching the hard knocks red I'm going to watch hold your socks up be a better fan You're scolding SMO.
Starting point is 00:58:20 An American sportsman would never bet the point spread against your own team. Nothing. No, you're going to, you're, I know you don't like it when you start something in a loose track. I forgot. It's on about the shoveler and if the shoveler knew, wouldn't end up good for me. Back to you, Ryan. Stamps are in action tomorrow on 8.7.30 at McGahn Stadium, BC Lions of Town, drone show. And a chance to get a half game closer to Cori.
Starting point is 00:58:47 Mace's Rough Riders. It was fun to talk to this. I like him better than you guys. Yeah. Should do show him. I should. Yeah. He's got that.
Starting point is 00:58:57 And him and Chris Winkler. Winky. Great name. Winks says he's the greatest writer fan ever. I think he probably works for free for the riders still. Oh, boy. Winkie.
Starting point is 00:59:08 All winks. Meanwhile, they're putting a sauna in the coach. He's obviously, you shouldn't give me a salary? I'm sorry. Guys, I'll do it. Yeah, the player's got a sauna and the coach has got a sauna.
Starting point is 00:59:17 that's a nice building dickinson's like jeez sauna we don't have a c it's like a sauna in here do you uh have you been to the new stadium because masonableness way to mention it i imagine you have new mosaic you're looking at me like an absolute moron i don't want to answer
Starting point is 00:59:35 he hasn't because he's not a real fan i'm an owner i can't i'm an owner i am an owner what percent do you own doesn't matter i own okay dean are you an owner he has a lot Again, he's got a lot of Netflix accounts. He's got a lot of things that he own. A lot of shares of the riders.
Starting point is 00:59:54 Have you been to the new mosaic, you know? No. So when I was doing afternoons with Pat, we had the outdoor game, Flames and Jets in Regina. I was drunk during that game. Pretty special. It's because Taylorfield, where it was, it was really kind of tucked right into a neighborhood.
Starting point is 01:00:13 Houses literally across the street. I think they've done a good job kind of replicated. that. A lot of times he goes like, well, we've knocked everything down and there's a stadium and a massive parking lot around it. And it's Canada. Don't want that. What they've done there with Mosaic. It's still kind of part of that neighborhood, which is kind of cool. Maybe not for parking, but chicken noodle soup.
Starting point is 01:00:34 A cup of soup at Taylor Field. That's that right. So just going to Taylor Field. Cabrary FC. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Cab's in action Saturday again. Last call to get on the bus. cheapest chips cheap as chips cheap as soup go ahead rye thanks bratt 2 p.m elven castle jack and i'll be there

Starting point is 01:02:01 Yeah, just whatever. Watching him operate, that would be good. We'll show it on the show. Yeah. Okay, Jack. Awesome. Okay. Back to you.
Starting point is 01:02:09 Check the show link, show description for the links to the bus trip from the elephant and castle. Looking forward to that. Should be great. And maybe even a sellout on Saturday on Fan Appreciation Day. Loadette. On the field. Oh, you're not going to beat the weather.
Starting point is 01:02:22 It looks unreal. Now, how is the search for a dog for your son, the promise that you've made, the oath to your child that should he achieve, he would be rewarded? How's that going? Great. The search continues. I've got a candidate for you. Life is a journey. I saw this pooch, and I'm thinking, this is a Warner dog.
Starting point is 01:02:43 It's an achiever. It's hardworking. It's more than just half-baked ideas. Let's take a look. Rising to all heights. Oh, yeah. You're a fair. I loved the trip of children.
Starting point is 01:03:11 It's horrid. Oh. You can't get taken down. Yeah, maybe. Kill the volume on that, Jacko. Look at this. Catch him, please. That looks like Concord.
Starting point is 01:03:24 How high is that dog? It's like four and a half. meters or something that's a lot of feet I feel like you could train well done poach again dogs are awesome Rhett hates dogs and his
Starting point is 01:03:39 children get this dog rat you could have a dog and make your kid happy and be like the best dad in the world or do none of those or you have a dog and you don't seem to be the best dad in the world I'm so great I think he's pretty good just ask my kids I'm sure
Starting point is 01:03:54 dude he's got his kid in the fantasy football what more do you want to see Yeah, but he's making this strawberry dessert, and he's half-assing it. I think he's a tough grail. Well, it together. Here's the thing. I didn't want to get into it. The products, the ingredients that I needed were purchased for me. Faulty product?
Starting point is 01:04:17 You know what? I'm not pleased with the- Just like Pinder earlier, I like being able to pass the buck. It's nice to be able to lay it on someone else's feet. This is, you know what? Here's just a, I can say, but I'll just get into it. Don't buy pre-shredded cheese.
Starting point is 01:04:34 No, it's the easy move, right? It's already shredded. But they cover it and stuff. It's wax. Because what do you do with cheese when you grade it? And if you were to put it into plastic bag, it's going to ball up. That's what cheese does.
Starting point is 01:04:45 So why does the pre-stuff not ball up? Because they cover it with a bunch of goop and you don't want that. No. I asked for Graham crackers for the, and I got the pre-crushed. Oh, shut up. be better jack get that person and i wasn't i got to let yeah i just they they had a certain taste and there had to have been something can we pa call this secret shopper no please no next time is hey could you grab it before get you yourself and get on the show again at home that's your pin
Starting point is 01:05:19 report on a thursday fellas nice j's underway already job right pin a report tops in its field year after year. Is that a Calgary car or what? The compact SUV field, according to car and driver magazine, it doesn't get better than the Honda CRV. It is a Calgary. Big time. It's that if you put winter tires on top of the all-wheel drive,
Starting point is 01:05:46 where do you want to go? Oh, that might be happening too, eh? Oh, you know. Yeah. Don't be fooled by the sunny weather for the stamps and calves. Winter is coming. Tip of the cap to September in Calgary. Great.
Starting point is 01:05:59 You've been awesome. Good word. Good work. September. You've been great. July, you're a dog bleeper. Arsehole. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:06:05 Complete jerk. Yeah. I did find something, Rhett, because, you know, people, they want to assist. They watch the show. They listen to the show. Every time there's an assist, there's a goal. Right. So somebody had sent me this because they saw the show and knew that you were kind of looking.
Starting point is 01:06:25 I saw this. Right now. There's a puppy overload at the Cochran. Humane Society, more than 75 pups. There is nothing. I'll go in my history. Sweeter than a rescue. They, it's uncanny.
Starting point is 01:06:42 They know. Sidney, sweetie, what? Stop it. You can name your puppy Sydney and or Sweeney. Either one. Your sisters. Yeah. The twins you could call them.
Starting point is 01:06:52 75 is a lot of pups. Jack, can you send this to me? We should just go. Where? out to Cochran. Doesn't one of the alumni live out there and run a car show? Mason Raymond's out there.
Starting point is 01:07:07 Mason to pick some up for us. Mace, bring some pups in. Be a weird text out of the blue. Hey, Mason, having texted. He's a nice guy. 12 months, 14 months. Or ever. Maybe ever.
Starting point is 01:07:21 Over at the Humane Society. Well, like a hot dog dean. But you know what? You're right. He's the nicest guy in the world. He'd probably do it. Well, geez, I don't know. Which one did you want?
Starting point is 01:07:29 I'm coming into talent. Friday. I really want to how many. Concord. So there you go. I mean, look at these dogs. Look at the boy in the left there. Sambuka. I like the dots on the guy on the right. Smear enough. What a stud muffin. White claw. Are you looking at them now?
Starting point is 01:07:43 Yeah. Jack Daniels. Oh, great names. Malibu. Sounds like these are all boozy. Bacardi. Fireball. The old Cochranian main society is a bit of a glig, glug. Tankerray. That's a weird name.
Starting point is 01:08:01 for a dog. So there you go. I looked at these dogs yesterday. I saw that. Come on. Because I'm on socials all the time. Yeah, you are. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:08:12 Oh, yeah. He's a boy. He's a good boy. Such a boy. And they are so thankful. They're loving and loved. Well, don't you get one? I am trying to get one, but my wife wants some Instagram.
Starting point is 01:08:28 Win an argument for once. I can't. Can you just win one? Put one in the books. If I win one argument, I'll have to start another argument called divorce lawyer. Well, you're not going to win that. Luckily, we are in. Not going to win that one either.
Starting point is 01:08:42 The McLeod Law LLP studios. Oof. Put one in the win column. I'll talk to her for you. Thanks, rat. She looks up to me. Hearingloss.ca. That's the website.
Starting point is 01:09:04 Yeah. If maybe you're not hearing the person you live with clearly enough. they're not sending you that you're not picking up on those messages maybe it's your hearing hearing loss dot caa it's locally owned and operated started with one location they're up to five in the city of calgary there's five more in british columbia it's Travis and sabrina rose they are great calgarians they give back they are charitable they care and their staff cares they have an amazing staff we've been a couple of times and they've done things they aren't even supposed to for that's not true right in a good way yeah no it's not it's not
Starting point is 01:09:38 I was not here for that. Oh, they want to make sure that everything's all right. I've got that video somewhere. I'm going to find it. When you got all that sputz in there. Like, Brett, we found this AAA battery in your ear. Yeah. Would you like to keep that?
Starting point is 01:09:50 Oh, thanks. Is this a microchip? Oh, my God. Hearing loss or impairment, it's about empowering everyone to be socially active, connected with loved ones, confident in every aspect of their life. Kids, it can be very challenging because they don't know. And studies have shown that health risks like dementia, depression, others have been linked to untreated hearing loss.
Starting point is 01:10:10 In addition to all that, you're hearing, whether it's hearing aids or whatever, it's custom ear protection, musician molds, custom in ear headphones. You know, if Brett and I wanted to go and do a live set over at the, at the trough after this, we could. We could just take our, keep our in ears in. The trough for a reason. You did earlier and it's down the street. I did.
Starting point is 01:10:34 Yeah. Put it in the universe. Yeah. You go for some dumplings, wantons? I was going to say we were going to do it if we were going to do it a live gig. The first I thought about the jub, the jubilee, but that's a big house. That's a lot of seating. We might be able to fill the trot.
Starting point is 01:10:49 They got bologna. Little live gig. Five locations in B.C., Cranbrook, Kreston, Fernie, Golden, and Invermere, and, of course, five in Calgary. One is near you. Helping you hear better is simply their way of helping you live better. Book an assessment today. Hearingloss.com. I think they'll be given volume deals on those pups and Cochran.
Starting point is 01:11:12 Red gets one. I get a pair. Well, and the thing of it is, and I'm sure that it's no different there. You think, well, the judge is going to take a whole bunch. There's a vetting process. They make sure you're, that's the only thing I'm concerned about you. Have you had a dog? Yep.
Starting point is 01:11:23 Have you ever abandoned a dog before? How old is he now? Well, I don't know. You don't know? Five. So he's alive? Yeah, he's living at my, my co-worker's house. Oh, well, how come? Well, it's best not to get into it.
Starting point is 01:11:37 I bought the dog and then fled the country for six, eight months, left the dog behind and then never went. pick it back up it could happen again well um mayor old race goes here in calgary are you running are you running well you're a mayor you're gonna need a dog he's gonna be busy i got a lot to get a call yeah you got to dig to do list hey well if we're gonna make it an interact let me know if i should run run for mayor or get a dog well i think they'd love you to get a dog it'd be cool with the mayor of a dog yeah but some people want you to like you know people in your life that they don't want you to succeed.
Starting point is 01:12:17 They want you to fail. They're holding you back. Kind of like Ryan and his deep wish that everything works out for McDavid and the oilers up there. Gosh, I wish people would stop dragging that team down. Don't stop worrying. Very, very hard.
Starting point is 01:12:34 That's great counselor. What will be will be, Ryan? Wise words. It's all going to work out. Be patient. Let's look at some football. Let's get into it. Pick.
Starting point is 01:12:42 Bet 365 official gaming partner of Barnburner, game props, player props, totals, money lines. We're going to be getting into hockey season here right away. We've got football. You name it. It's on there. Download the app, get in in the game. You must be 19 or older if you haven't signed up already. I'm sure what you're waiting for. And use the code nation when you do sign up. Pickle. Are you? Oddly enough, I think the coach's name is pickle.
Starting point is 01:13:06 Coach Pickle. I could be wrong. There was a guy. There was a guy. Tonight at six. Can you do it on Zoom? That'd be kind of. Are you raising your hand to assistant coach? Not a lot.
Starting point is 01:13:20 You banned? Yeah. Just casually brush over that. Back to you, Dean. Yeah. Darn. I forget where I was going to go. Anyway, so yeah, picks.
Starting point is 01:13:33 Thursday night football. Your bills are in action. That's why it's awkward. That's real. You got a coach's apparent meeting, that sort of thing. Maybe we could go back to my house. Yeah, maybe. Have everybody over?
Starting point is 01:13:46 A couple sasparillas. Ooh, now we're talking. But then you'll get some guy in there who'll come wearing his Dan Marino jersey. Some milf? Running around. At your house? Who are we talking about? Shovelers out of town.
Starting point is 01:14:00 Oh, dear. Part day. Where is this going? Shut the cameras off. I don't you. We're trying to do football picks and you're talking about milfs with your wife out of town. What the hell's going on? I got a meeting out of my heart.
Starting point is 01:14:12 I'm trying to invite people over. Let's take a look at what we've got going. We had a rough week one. Last week, we were back. I don't love doing games this early. It feels early. The Thursday to be doing these. Here's what we got.
Starting point is 01:14:25 Easy. Boom. Bill's huge number. Don't care. There was some stuff. Something about like in the last five years, spreads of 12 or more with home teams. It's like 80%, 85%.
Starting point is 01:14:39 Don't be scared. It's the bills by a million. The Rams in Philly to play the Eagles. I think the race. Rams are kind of sneaky good. Could be kind of sneaky good. They beat now, again, they beat the Texans and the Titans, but they were really going into Philly. Hertz hasn't thrown for a touchdown yet.
Starting point is 01:15:01 They're grinding out wins. It's not super pretty. And you get the hook too, three and a half. And you get the hook. So maybe they've hooked me. And if so, well done. But I'm going to take the points and the Rams at three and a half. And Tampa Bay minus six and a half.
Starting point is 01:15:15 They're at home against the jets. it sounds crazy. Well, the Jets are going to be without Justin Fields. So better? What's the good news? Exactly. There's something about the box.
Starting point is 01:15:25 Now, who's backing them up again, Jack? We looked at it yesterday. The back of the Jets? Yeah. Tyrod Taylor. Tyrod is still giving her.
Starting point is 01:15:33 Yes, he is. How's his spinal cord? Has it been a lung? Remember where they put the freezing fluid in his lung? Ah! Not ideal. You missed, Doc.
Starting point is 01:15:41 That was good, though, because that started the Justin Herbert era. It was game two. And Tyrod had to say, and they were going to ease Herbert in. Like, nope, it's your time to shine, kid. Yeah. I'm not fooled by the Jets, I don't think.
Starting point is 01:15:53 And the Buccaneers, they find a way to win. It's a lot of points. But I thinker. Six and a half at home against the Jets, I'll give away the points and I'll take the box. It feels like a very chalky fan pick. But I just... It's terrible.
Starting point is 01:16:10 Right next. What do we got? Oh. You just go with good teams. That's what you did. Dean. Good teams. Oh, wait. Detroit's playing Baltimore. They're good. Shoot. Is Dallas a good team?
Starting point is 01:16:23 He's going to say, what about the bottom? I'm not sure either. If you look at both of those teams that are they playing in that game? Bad teams. Which one's better? Bears win that game. Yeah, I don't know. Oh, burger bet? Full screen, burger bet.
Starting point is 01:16:39 Big mouth. Hey, there, big boy. Got that burger best thing. Can you shake on a burger bet? I'll shake on a shake. Check on a burger bag. There's a burger bed. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:16:48 Good. Back to his back. Dallas will win because Jerry's got the boys rolling. Detroit will win. What does that even mean? Jerry's got the boys rolling. They lost week one. They had to kick an impossibly long field goal to like win an overtime against the like they're rolling.
Starting point is 01:17:09 Yes. Last week they gave up 14 on long bomb plays. Jeez. Russ was cooking against them. you might want to up you may want my picks that's right jerry's got the cowboys rolling so i'm going with the cowboys and the lions what about this i didn't realize they're playing the ravens but five i'm gonna go with the they got five yeah owners got them rolling yeah in detroit that guys the guy ford guy be hard against baltimore at home oh shit let's my four boys go get the bills
Starting point is 01:17:42 I love the bills. But it's plus five, retro. You got five points there. Yeah, I don't think it matters. Baltimore's real good. I like the trepidation heading and he's usually so confident. And those are my picks, Jack, if you want to copy him. Great picks.
Starting point is 01:17:58 Great picks. I think we might have a team ride on the bills here because I got the bills minus 11. You're not even allowed to do this. It's going to be a kiss of death for sure. I'm also on the bucks because the jets. Oh, like Detroit. think of trash and i kind of don't mind uh five points just keep it close to troy they look much better week two looked like trash in week one and baltimore's very good i don't know the lines will give up
Starting point is 01:18:23 five points the rest of the year or get five points excuse me in baltimore right yeah yeah jack let's do it right i'm also on your bills oh it's a full team ride wow squad ride ride I have to take my favorite team, but you guys don't have to take your favorite team, but you'll take my favorite team. We're just picking any three games we want. Unless we want it to do, now that we're all on it, we could do the Thursday nighter and then pick three. I like that.
Starting point is 01:18:52 We could do more picks tomorrow. We're all on the Thursday nighter. At a pick tomorrow. Out of pick tomorrow. I like her. Nice. I'm also on the pack. Last week I said that the best in the NFL.
Starting point is 01:19:02 I do love the packers. They look dominant. Cleveland's tax. Jack's no idiot, folks. Nope, no idiot here. I'm in first place. The guy got the Packers rolling. Those cheeseheads and the community ownership out there.
Starting point is 01:19:15 Jack's 3-2 and 1 standing atop the stands. Yeah, a huge lead. Cushing a jack. A towering half game lead. Outta boy, Jack. And then I got the Falcons minus five and a half. Who the hell is paying any attention to the Falcons and the Panthers? People with money on the Falcons and the Panthers.
Starting point is 01:19:32 The Panthers are horrible. They're really bad. I like what the Falcons did last week against the Vikings. They got that cool owner, too. They got a cool owner. He was always dressed shirt. He's always dressed shirt. Looks like Dracula.
Starting point is 01:19:43 Yeah, he does look like Dracula. You can count chocolate a little bit. Yeah. Falcons, Packers, bills. I like this penics. Oh, to suck your blood. Boom. How many first downs?
Starting point is 01:19:52 One, two, three, four. You were saying the Panthers have allowed almost 60 points. Atlanta, just 29 through two weeks. It's a lot of points. Carolina is very, very bad. Yeah, there. Again. Oh, so you took the better team.
Starting point is 01:20:09 We're on the bills. Exciting. I'm excited for another game, another pick tomorrow. Yes. Well, I get stressed out over this stuff. Yeah, I know. Devote a lot of time to it. Everyone's overthinking it.
Starting point is 01:20:21 It's right. Okay, where's this game being played? What's the weather going to be like? Yeah. Is there wind? What's the last, you know, decades of head to head? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:20:30 Didn't know they were playing the Ravens. Oh, shoot. It's kind of the thing about the line. factors in who's playing who? It can. Yeah. I think they probably take that into account, that's what I mean,
Starting point is 01:20:43 put the line together and figure out which two teams are playing. They don't have a random number generator. They actually look at the two teams playing each other. That's just a guess. I don't know. Bet365. However they do it, they do it great. Download the app, get in the game,
Starting point is 01:20:56 must be 19 or older. Those are the picks. And hey, folks, look forward more of that tomorrow. God, that was great. So are you going, you didn't eat yet, did you eat yesterday? No. Okay. So now you were very excited to do to go and have lunch today.
Starting point is 01:21:14 Are you going to have a lonely burger? Take them with you. Yeah. He doesn't. We have a burger bet. We have a burger bet. Good. Next week.
Starting point is 01:21:23 Yeah. Even tomorrow? No. That's a Sunday game. Yeah. That's the Bears and the, good boys. I kind of don't like that.
Starting point is 01:21:32 Jera's got the place rolling. Yeah. Jerry's got the boys rolling. It feels nice when I have your support. When you do like the buddy bed, it always feels nice to know that Rett's got your back. Me too. He picked the Chargers week one.
Starting point is 01:21:44 Thanks, well, I feel like you guys were ridiculing me about my pick so I had to stand up for myself. And Jerry. He's got the points rolling. I picked up on my sarcasm, really.
Starting point is 01:21:54 I think the Cowboys. He gave up all those points to Russell Wilson last week. But the Bears are just doing no good. They had a good start against the Vikings and then. best themselves and yeah they got blown out by detroit detroit Detroit's gonna blow some teams out there they're at home hey you do your picks the cowboys this is the beauty of the picks are at we can all hey chicago's got better food than caroline where is the best burger mcdonalds about up pa pa stop giving free flex there's that place down on 10th ab that's closed they had a burger
Starting point is 01:22:32 remember when you in i that i couldn't be that good if it's closed wow it was your favorite burger the mexican place was it briggs on 10th half oh that had a good burger they had an excellent retted one of the most casual second burger burger burgers i've ever seen with a sit down that burger was available that's where i'd go you know like you can't get the server you like excuse me could i get just some hot sauce thank you's just like can just bring me another burger another side he's like national's got you heard me another yeah he can he he sneaks in the double just like oh is that just Just a second entre order casually?
Starting point is 01:23:05 No fries, check. No, no, I don't need fries. Just another one of those. God, that burger would be perfect. See, I told you. That was one of the best in the city. Lots of good burgers out there. Around the horn with a yes or a no.
Starting point is 01:23:19 Jack, I'm going to start with you. It goes from Jack to Ryan to Rett. Fried egg on a burger. Yes or no? No. Ryan? Yes. No.
Starting point is 01:23:29 If it's a good burger, I don't need it. It gets messy, so you've got to be in the right environment. I'm okay with it, but I don't need it. but I don't need it. A good burger doesn't do it. Like if you're trying to do something with fancy, don't even step near egg yolk. But if you're like at home,
Starting point is 01:23:44 wearing your PJs watching the Monday or the London Sunday morning game, you want to throw an egg on a bird? Go do it. Remember when we were in Arizona and I flew all the way from Buffalo and a snowstorm just to be there with you guys? And then I had to turn around 12 hours there. Because there was a snowstorm coming again and I had to get the hell out of there.
Starting point is 01:24:02 That's right. I think it's bottom. Bobby Flays joint in the Arizona airport. Egg? Is that right, eh? You just the breakfast. I think I had the breakfast sandwich, but I think there was, I don't even know what I ordered. I was so hungover, but it was phenomenal.
Starting point is 01:24:18 And talk about messy, sauce everywhere. It's a great segue for national. Well, I know our thing over the years, it goes, we've done this a long time, you and me. Remember our thing was, why is a burger not part more of a menu? a breakfast menu deal. Yeah. You want protein.
Starting point is 01:24:37 You want carbs. You're like, it's all there in a burger. Why is a burger? Well, we're not doing burgers till after 11 or until. Why?
Starting point is 01:24:45 So you're going to have a bread product, some beef on the place. Sausage paddy, but not a. Very mixed messaging. Yeah. Because I have to admit, I'm,
Starting point is 01:24:54 I'm not a fried egg on a burger guy. But I don't, but I don't know. Yeah, I don't know. I just, if you put it on there, I'm fine. I just, I think a good burger shouldn't require a Friday.
Starting point is 01:25:08 That'd be once in a blue moon. You spice it up a little with an egg. Yeah. God, I'm hungry. How do you feel about the, like the five guys burgers? I like five guys burgers. I do too. I like National as a good burger.
Starting point is 01:25:23 I actually liked a burger at OJ's, the Ace burger. What was that one you were reading out, had a corn dog on us? Boogie? Boogie's burgers. It was the Doug. The Doug? The DUG. I'll find it if I can.
Starting point is 01:25:38 All right. It was, it was quite a lot on there. While you do that, we will, we'll sound the horn and do a little bit of this. Super Chats for the youth centers of Calgary. Little donation with any luck coming up in the next few weeks or a couple months or
Starting point is 01:25:56 when we get around to it. It's an interactive show. Yeah. It's an interactive show. Ready? Dugs, don't fear the Reaper. Four patties.
Starting point is 01:26:04 Two slices of cheddar. four strips of bacon a butterflyed it's more weener it's a wide quarter pound beef weaner fried egg red sauce whatever the hell
Starting point is 01:26:19 that is lettuce tomato onion all topped with a mini corn dog that's your winner today wow it's right across street
Starting point is 01:26:29 from one of parks kind of over there but then I have to immediately get into my truck and fall asleep I was going to say you're going to have to drive 140 or you're going to fall asleep
Starting point is 01:26:37 If you see a pickup truck with a man in a bill shirt at the wheel, it's weaving across Stony Trail. Don't wake him. Leave him be. Make sure he's in the dish. He'll get there. Put it in park. Leave him alone. He'll get there.
Starting point is 01:26:49 To the super chat, $50 for handsome Dan. The last time the Sabres made the playoffs was 0809. Rhett had been retired for two years. No, I hadn't. Pinder was years from meeting the woman he would later ride the coattails of. Many years. And Booms. still had hope for the future.
Starting point is 01:27:09 I was retired for two. I was still getting paid that. Talk about it. I do not see. I'm not hopeful. Odds, yeah, any odds they break the streak?
Starting point is 01:27:19 20%? Like, is that the kind of odds? Yeah, it's probably what, like a plus 500 type situation. I kind of sneaky like the roster, but I just,
Starting point is 01:27:31 it's still Lindy rough and a GM, I don't think that's that sure. Well, we talked about, I think it was the day that you weren't here. they signed Georgie 5 because Oucapeka. Yeah, he might be hurt.
Starting point is 01:27:42 That's not good. So they got Devin Levi and they got like four goalies and I'm not sure any of them or any good. We want it to happen. That fan base deserves it. It's just so much has to go right and already it's going wrong. Listen. Full screen, Jack. Listen.
Starting point is 01:27:59 We're going to allow this to continue until they get a real difference maker because right now, the good folks in Buffalo have enough. chest to get excited that's right right we don't need to divert any attention and have some hockey team going a hot run and oh shit don't need it super bowl then stanley cup that's the order super bowl stanley cut yeah you don't you don't need feast and famine you got to just spread it out you're not you're not new england you're not boston you don't know in fair the Sabres have done the famine really well. They've left the door wide open for the bills to feast for a while now.
Starting point is 01:28:46 It feels like for the hell of a run. If you went Super Bowl into Sabres playoffs next year, all the moment. But the Sabres are effing it up too because they're not quite hitting out of the park with any of the ground. Get a coaching staff. Get a coaching staff. What do they got there? Lindy Ruff.
Starting point is 01:29:04 Who we thought, yeah, that might not be the best guy for a young team needing structure and some assistance that I don't know if they're getting rehired if they're else in the league. Well, what they should do is hire Pete DeBore because you know he gets to round three. And to get to round three, you got to make the playoffs. And then he'll shit talk your goalie. Then you give him the boot. But at least you get the playoffs. That's the price. Hey, you worry
Starting point is 01:29:23 about that down the road. Pay the Piper in the playoffs. That's fine. Very nice. Justin. Boys. Do I make bacon wrapped smokies? What day is it, Justin? Or bacon wrapped cheeseburgers for dinner tonight. Justin, you're so silly.
Starting point is 01:29:41 Justin. God. You got that picture still, Jack? They sent yesterday. They put everywhere, Ryan. Oh, right. This is the most obvious trick question of all time. Dude, come on.
Starting point is 01:29:53 We appreciate, because we're interactive show. Very interesting. That you would message the show and that, but it's clearly Burger Day. Also, can I say something about the wrapping of the bacon? Don't love it. don't love it. I'll have bacon on my burger. I'm not going to wrap the damn burger in it.
Starting point is 01:30:15 Yeah, fry the bacon, put it on top. It doesn't affect the flavoring. It's a good point. I also find you wrap it. It's less crispy. Just put it on there.
Starting point is 01:30:23 Yeah. Just cook the bacon right. However you like it. And Justin, it's both, obviously. Because that is the thing. It's like,
Starting point is 01:30:30 oh, bacon wrapped tenderloin or whatever medallions. Like, it tends to fall off. Like you're right. depending on how many times they've wrapped it. The second, the inside drug, well, it's not cooked through. It's chewy and gross.
Starting point is 01:30:43 There you go, Justin. There it is. That, of course, was on yesterday's show, which means today. Yeah, I read it a day to prepare for the dug. Did you snooze for five minutes or did you just turn it off? There'll be snooze for five minutes out of that burger. That was on your drive home. When you wake up to that, you get up and take on the day. What a day.
Starting point is 01:31:03 So we have a trip coming up. We're going to Nashville. you are chief food officer dean and Rhett you're going to help contribute as well. What are the stops we have to hit? Go under the Hattie Bees. Tennessee. Haddy Bees was awesome last time. I'd never been. I'd heard a bit of the buzz.
Starting point is 01:31:18 You're like, we're going. We went with the group of guys. It was awesome. Haddy Bees hot chicken is a staple. There is a barbecue place that is a short walk from the Legends corner from the rink. It was quite good when I was there last time. I'm telling you, the Mexican food I had right beside Hattie B's on Main Strip. this. I did watch a grown man eat a hot dog from a cart
Starting point is 01:31:40 just outside of a bar, a honky talk on Broadway one night. I'm not sure if that, it was very hot, as I recall. Maybe blistered a man's mouth. Because I was going to say, there's a chance if you're going on this trip, you might not eat good at all. It could be some rink, some popcorn at the game.
Starting point is 01:32:05 All the pubs, fries and chips and peanuts and you get a burger and all the pubs that's that's streetmates yeah you may not sit down at a restaurant when they punch you out of the one of the hockey talks at 2 a.m those dogs oh yeah they get a huge tray like 20 condiments you can put on them how much 20 US no I have five that sounds terrific I have four of those keep You want one? Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:32:35 We're a lot about food, but it depends on how that trip goes. You better get that good food and you want early in the day. Yeah. Because your decision making prowess is going to use a slide. I'm just going to say, and you're not going to ruin $100 drunk on a $10. No, you're not. Chicken sandwich. We've got some time to figure it out.
Starting point is 01:32:54 Yeah, we're going to map it up. Nationgear.ca. If you want to come with us to Nashville, October 31st and November 3rd, leaving a Friday back in a Monday, we're going to watch a hockey game. game calgary nashville we go watch a football game tennessee and the charge airs and there's some honky talks i understand in nashville some live music some good times the hockey game is a saturday afternoon game so the runway it's wide open boys a lot of options they still some spots available get it are going guys we're going to shut this thing down pretty quick yeah grab a buddy
Starting point is 01:33:26 let's go it did sound like by the weekend they're going to because i got a there needs to be urgency here Let's go. Book some rooms and flights and get all that done. So time is of the essence. Nationgear.com. Go to the, I think it's the events tab and you'll find it there and book in. There it is.
Starting point is 01:33:42 Direct flights, bus transportation to and from the airport, three nights in a downtown hotel. Single occupancy sold out. Hockey tickets, football tickets. That doesn't say there, but I think it's a small print,
Starting point is 01:33:55 a good time guarantee. It's Nashville. Come on, people. It's a bucket list place for a reason. Oh, baby. I hope I still can, I can still. You know, it's been another year since I hope I can still do it.
Starting point is 01:34:11 Come on. You'll have the clean bill of health by then. I hope I can, yeah. I better schedule that meeting with investment before the natural. I will say this, though. Let's say there's 50 of us going. We will not have 100% attendance at. It's impossible.
Starting point is 01:34:31 Both the hockey games and the, someone more than someone is going to miss one or the other. History teaches you lessons about the world. Because that's the only thing. You'll never bet a thousand. Yeah. The only thing about the early game, it's good for your Saturday,
Starting point is 01:34:45 but we get there Friday. And it's Halloween. So it means a tighter turnaround the next morning. If you really get after it on Friday, and if Saturday morning's not really going well, what times the game? 2.30. I checked the over under on bet 365.
Starting point is 01:35:01 Jack, two and a half periods of the game. for hockey is the over under really yeah two and a half that's the line because i remember you were you were a late arrival first intermission or second period arrived yeah it was zero yeah zero periods yeah under pay zero periods yeah how is the game i don't know you tell me didn't you go to nashville oh yeah jack could get all four quarters of football i will i can watch the flames go have to dry out after hell i'm not sure that's true i got i'm not sure that's true i got i think there's a chance that you get into that football game and maybe it's not super competitive and you're like, you got anyone on your fantasy team playing?
Starting point is 01:35:43 Because you're not going to. That is true because the Steelers will be playing at the same time. We could probably get out of here and go to a bar and watch somewhere else or a second screen going, Jack. And you've not been on Broadway where you're like, wait a minute. I could just, I could go. Yeah. The Bachelor parties are going to love Jack.
Starting point is 01:36:00 Yeah, you might be right. The Bachelorette capital of the world for. Jack's Pickens. How much time are you going to spend at Morgan Wallens bar there, Jack? We've been listening to Morgan Wallin this week. Oh, religiously for a month. Yeah, I don't, I'm just going to follow you guys. Is it called Morgan's or Wallens?
Starting point is 01:36:16 Should I know the name? It's Morgan Wallens. I think it's this bar. Okay. This bar. What other country singers have bars? All of them. Aldeans.
Starting point is 01:36:24 Jason Aldeen. Eric Church. Is Al Jackson still? I think Allen's, Garth Brooks has one there. Of course, there's Kid Rock, who, uh, country music superstar. Um, it's Blake Shelton. That's, wow.
Starting point is 01:36:38 Because old Reds, that's his place, right? And you'll have to have, uh, go to Reds in the airport on the way home and have, it's kind of a putini thing, but it's,
Starting point is 01:36:52 it's a scramble and it's got like that country fried gravy and chicken bites and sausage and scramble. Oh. And I believe. So good. It's been a while. but they did have, and I don't want to spoil it, I think we still can go for baloney sandwiches at Roberts.
Starting point is 01:37:13 I like the Western world. I was going to actually ask. I thought that was. I think they still do like beers and baloney sandwiches at Roberts. God, we have to. I know. Well, video call Greg when we're there. It's a lot of the more, it's kind of the traditional country.
Starting point is 01:37:27 So a lot of the younger folks are like, baloney and Wayland Jennings, eh, whatever, don't need that. Perfect. So it's great for me. Oh, good. It's like us. Only two things in life. Yeah, it's ours too.
Starting point is 01:37:40 Good. I'm in the market lights. God damn, we're going to have a good time. Yeah, I'm excited. Oh, I'm going to sing. I'm going to drink. Woo. You actually smiles and he's happy when he drinks.
Starting point is 01:37:52 Have you ever seen him with a couple drinks? It's great times. I can't wait to see you on Monday on the way home. You'll be full life. Well, you're on IV duty. So make sure you pre-ordered. No chance. I think I've actually got some drunk video.
Starting point is 01:38:04 I was sending my kid. I was like two in the morning. Have you? Have we not passed this stage in our lives? Like, I feel like I'm pretty good at this, but my drunk brother on the weekend was at Morgan Wallen and felt the need. Well, I was going to say,
Starting point is 01:38:20 if you think, if you think we aren't getting into the sauce, and then paying the band to play Mama Tried and calling up your mom on the phone. Yeah, but that's a phone call. And you followed up with, I love you, Mom. I miss you. That's different. a mass group.
Starting point is 01:38:36 Look, I'm in a limo. I'm cool. Totally different, Jack. Not the same at all? My mom appreciates it. She wants to know what I'm thinking of it. It's just being a good son right there. I'm in town.
Starting point is 01:38:49 No one where I'm bad. Can we? I keep saying I'm starving. We got some more. Tommy. There's a show going to. Speaking of burgers. Try the OG Allie Burger.
Starting point is 01:39:06 That's from the Gentlemaniac. There you go. Where's that? Allie Burger. The OG. I appreciate that, General. It's probably not the reaction he was looking for.
Starting point is 01:39:18 I appreciate that channel. Just a gentle maniac. I'm Mr. Maniac. Not a complete. Not an overblown, just a gentle. And a $7. Dollar Oilers suck.
Starting point is 01:39:26 I appreciate that. I appreciate that. Actually, six. $6.99. Yeah. Yeah. Boilers suck. Thank you, Justin.
Starting point is 01:39:33 Just driving. Inglewood driving. C.B. What the hell is CB, Greg? Let's, uh, now, uh, how's the show to do you? Excellent. Yeah. It's not over yet, though.
Starting point is 01:39:46 Okay. I know. Um, top five burgers or is that putting you on the spot? He's grinding right now. He's texting Greg to get more. I'm busy. Just, Greg is texting me places that I've never heard of. Really?
Starting point is 01:39:59 What is it? That's a meat customer. That's, you've never seen this joint there's no way you've been here i don't think i've been there no the hitching post down in high river had a hell of a burger back in the day yes indeed this looks like this is the cb hamburger in what for sleeping after that burger apparently i'll get a i'll get the triple burger and a room for two can i get that four patty thing with a single bed yeah this inglewood driving
Starting point is 01:40:33 I've been there. I've been there. And it's ripped by Splombos, it's right behind Splombie's. Same block. Okay. And, oh,
Starting point is 01:40:40 it's that little joint. It's been there forever. It's like an old school diner drive-in thing. What is Dole Whip? Like it's, it's ice creamy, but- Pineapple.
Starting point is 01:40:51 Yeah. It's like a pineapple. Like a pineapple whip sorbet kind of deal. Like it's trying to be, it feels like it's trying to be healthy. Would have been a hit in the 50s, I think, for some reason.
Starting point is 01:41:00 Yeah. Maybe I'm wrong. Angels drive in. What's this joint? Yeah, he was just, leaving me shit for tracking the show on. You can shut it off anytime we want.
Starting point is 01:41:09 This happens whether we're on or not. Look at this place. Big game for Calvary FC coming up on the weekend. It's Baller, 4 p.m. Fan appreciation day. Great day at Atco. If you've never been, this is your time to do it. And if you've been, you know you're in for a treat coming up on the weekend.
Starting point is 01:41:29 And the Gaffer is one of the most successful in the entire league. He's a wonderful boy. Great hair. Great hair. God, man. I like the cut of his jib. Yeah. So he's got good turns of phrase.
Starting point is 01:41:41 Great guy. Tommy Wilden Jr. Just two home games left for Calvary FC, who have had a wonderful late summer surge sitting third in the CPL standings. It's the head coach and GM, Tommy Whelden, Jr. Too long, friend. How has your summer been? Well, aside for the results,
Starting point is 01:42:02 golf games improved. But, yeah, it was a strange, strange July. and even some parts of August. But again, it's one of those in a quest for the championship. It's how you finish the race and getting the boys in the form at the right time. And in fairness, you've got to go through the pain if you want to taste the champagne as we touched on last year. And we've gone through the pain there, you know, through the summer months
Starting point is 01:42:27 and hitting some really good form. Attacks looking good. And defense is solid, especially with clumpy back now in our build. Yeah, it's interesting. July felt like a tough one for you. Offense was like where have the goals gone? And then August, a totally different story. Ali Moosey's been a big part of that resurgence.
Starting point is 01:42:45 I know getting Gote and Tignia back was a big one for you as well. And then you bring back Dan Klomp, much beloved guy. You've got to be feeling really good about your form. I know that road game at York wasn't great. But other than that, you've been piling up goals and blowing out some pretty good teams. Yeah, it was. And even the game away at Otto, I felt we were the better team. and we let them back in probably the last 25 minutes.
Starting point is 01:43:08 And the back-to-back goals are always a killer. I think, you know, teams are always going to have a chance, but they got two right away and they capitalised it. And then we nearly scored the winner with Kenigialva, which we seem to do well at Ottawa. So I think that sets up well for the next time we play them. Lads are obviously disappointed because that was a chance to close the gap on them. But yeah, it's been a good turnaround.
Starting point is 01:43:31 I think Gote and Tigny has just come in and added something bit different. I don't think there's a winger like him in the league. And I think with Dan Klomp, I think Dan Klomp's a special player and a much beloved, as you said. But he gives us that calmness as, you know, like our quarterback really and likened it to, you know, Oasis and Liam Gallagher getting the band back together. And I think that's how it feels going into this running. I hope it wasn't that contentious before he came back. Well, it didn't check me like three four times before uh till the people finally uh got moved the line persistence pays off it's like dating somehow we're all married you just got to keep at it till it works some unlucky woman out there that is going to
Starting point is 01:44:14 end up with us and they did that's right uh listen we get the fan appreciation game coming up on saturday four o'clock valor uh talking to some of your staff like this thing might be a sellout how excited are you to have two more at home especially with this gray weather it was a pretty wet July and early summer. This feels like a great day in making at Echo Field. Yeah, and that's what I keep saying to our players is I think it was after the 5-4 win. It was my 200th game at home against Vancouver. I'm leaving there with my heart fluctuating all over the place. And I'm like, listen, love the fact we scored five goals. Don't like the fact we conceded four. Great that compi scored on his debut, the 97th minute winner. I had more
Starting point is 01:45:00 comments, I think you included, about that game and it was a barn burner, which is fit perfectly for this show. But I just said to Ladler, if I'm a fan now, what do I want to see? I want to see entertainment. We're, you know, in a great competitive city with some terrific, you know, sporting clubs, to theatres, to shows, to restaurants, so all these things. So we have to entertain. We went and followed that up with a 4-1 win against Forge, a 3-1 win at home. And I just keep saying to lads let's go out there and entertain so the fans love it but the the fact that most you know there's a big right outside our locker room there's a group generally of anywhere about a hundred people that congregate after games and whether we win or tie sometimes we lose at home not very often
Starting point is 01:45:46 but lads always come out and sign autographs for them and i think it's something you know mason trafford and alison or keith we've they've been very good at you know with our ticket sales and our partners and like every year let's do a fan appreciation where those that want to stay beyond that sign the rosters have a conversation with everyone and i think it just keeps us connected to our fans and uh we we look forward to it because it is a good game like baller it's a great game that if we win we're in and uh it could be a meaningful game so it's going to be a slight bit of pressure but same concept you want to entertain our fans and then afterwards we want to connect with them so does everyone meet on the field i wasn't at last year's fan appreciation
Starting point is 01:46:24 game is that right you we did that horizon yeah there's there's two iterations i've seen where it's back in that horizons you know where you'd walk through on the initial entry and yeah i guess there'll be a way to walk out on there and there's another one where it might be just behind the benches in front of like the officers club um sure there's another one so i think we'll get confirmation in the next day or so about what's the easiest logistics for both fans players and security i don't like taking the word of meteorologists in calgary their pathological liars to me but it looks really nice on saturday like mid to high 20s in uh later half of September.
Starting point is 01:47:01 You got to love that. It should be a ton of fun. And as you said, great for the guys to connect with the fans. That's what this is all about. You're in third now. First and second, there's a big gap there. I don't want to say you're destined for third,
Starting point is 01:47:14 but it's your most probable landing spot. How do you approach? Is it all just about process? Let's make sure we're playing the right way when we head to the playoffs. Or is it like, no fellas, we've got to run the table and someone's going to stub their toe and we're going to get one of those top two spots
Starting point is 01:47:26 where you can vie for home field in the final. Yeah, and I think when you look too far ahead, you lose the game in front of you. And we've been about, you know, I think we stubbed our toe through July and August. They were the times really, maybe even June, the start of it, where they were the time to close the gap and we had an opportunity too. But as we've entered the last round of games, because everything, you know, we play every team four times, two home, two away. So we look at it round one, round two.
Starting point is 01:47:51 They almost look at it like, you know, NHL playoffs, where we're like, right, how's our series against these? So now Valor, for example, we've beat them twice, they beat us once. It's about winning the series ahead of us because it gets us into that preparation of playoff type formats. So every game now, this is a one where the challenge is winning in. And it kind of gives that little bit of pressure, but I think pressure is necessary to accomplish what you want to achieve later on in the season. So if you went into every game and you're just like, let's give it good effort, boys.
Starting point is 01:48:24 you know, I think these guys like that kind of, not weight, but expectation on them. And I think that's where we play best and why we usually finish quite strong, because we just take little bites along the way, so it prepares us for playoffs. And that's exactly what we're doing for Val on the weekend. They're back-to-back wins for the first time in their season. So, you know, Phil DeSantos, I'm sure we'll have them coming in with confidence. They beat us at their place last time we played them. So they're probably going to come in feel themselves, which is a great game.
Starting point is 01:48:54 makes for them actually coming out and attacking us, which makes the game probably a bit more enjoyable than teams that will come and just park the bus and try and get a nil-0 draw. Finally, a bit of news crossed over the last few weeks. You guys at Calvary have set up a year-round academy. What does the academy mean for the big club? And for those of us that aren't into the weeds as deep as the hardcores are, what's the importance of an academy to the future of the franchise? Yeah, it's our farm system. And you've known me very. a very long time in the city that's where i came from um used to run a club cavalry foothills and then went into the pdl which was kind of like our version of a you know the w league or w tl or something
Starting point is 01:49:35 that was our farm system um and and then it helped bridge that gap from youth to semi-pro and kind of university age into the pros that gap served as brilliantly for when we launched cavalry 50% of my roster was guys i'd worked with so i knew what my local content was and it was about topping up with top pros like, you know, top pros like, you're Mason Traffers, your Dominic Malongas, people like that that could come in and give us that experience that we hadn't had.
Starting point is 01:50:02 Julian Boucher, Jordan Brown, Nathan Mavilla, these were all guys that have brought in from all over the place. And we had a great run on that first year. From there, I think it was a second year, or just after the pandemic, we created this U20, U21 team that played either the local amateur major soccer league
Starting point is 01:50:18 in Alberta. It's now League 1, which is a semi-pro league, across four big provinces, Ontario, Quebec, ourselves and BC. And we've gone a bit younger now because we're going like basically it's U-18. So any high school age player, great work's been done by Jay Wilden, our technical director, who also is our technical director. Tofa Fukumli, our assistant GM and Fran Bartolillo, our head of youth development, to make this a full-time program and our owners of, you know,
Starting point is 01:50:49 willing to invest in the future, because that, that's what this team's about is you've got to explore your local community first and see which guys are ready to come through. Lads have all committed for the next year. And then each year, you add and subtract players as you feel they're growing. And hopefully there's enough young players coming through. And we just announced James McClinty as an exceptional young talent contract, which means, you know, if he signs before he graduates high school, it's a professional contract you can offer. But it also doesn't hit the cap. So there's a encouragement by the league to develop local Canadian talent. We also know the under 21 rule of
Starting point is 01:51:27 your 2,000 minutes minimum to complete and you have to have at least three on your roster. This now is our pipeline and I think it's so important to keep bringing through young players and I think it's going to be a really good program, give it a year or so to start producing more players. Good luck on the weekend. Jack and I'll be there. The last time producer Jack and I went to a game, I ditched him to sneak onto the field and give you a big hug after you won the championship. So no pressure, but we're expecting big things on Saturday afternoon at Echo. Win and we're in. That's it.
Starting point is 01:52:00 When we're in. Thanks, Tommy. Always good catching up.
