Starting point is 00:00:15 Auto focus. Give that camera the finger. Last time I did that, I had people scurrying around town talking to our sponsors. I can't do that. Oh dear. Oh, dear. What is it supposed to be like auto focus?
Starting point is 00:00:33 That chair looks deadly. You want to sit in that one today? Hey, your leather recliner. Yeah, it's nice. Yeah. What do I got to do here? Maybe if I, uh, hold up my coffee cup, focus on my coffee cup.
Starting point is 00:00:53 No, I'm not going to do it. Jack, can you play our technical difficulties music bed, please? Maybe if I move back, I want to roll over the dog. I move back, and now in. Hello? No. Hmm. Dean, are you having technical difficulties?
Starting point is 00:01:17 I'm having technical difficulties. what if I what have I got here? What can I Oh, hey. There is. Just like what happened there?
Starting point is 00:01:29 I think the camera just woke up. Speaking of technical difficulties, where's Buffalo boy? He was there and then he started sounding like robot rat and then we're like just give it a restart and then his computer
Starting point is 00:01:47 well, tactical difficulties. and then he saw him on his phone for a moment and then he disappeared again. I think he's back safely from Port Huron. Let's do this tomorrow. Let's just do this tomorrow. So with no, Retta will show?
Starting point is 00:02:04 I'm having technical difficulties. No, you're good now. You're good. He's having technical difficulties tomorrow. Three day work week. I think we did a show without Retton Friday. It went just fine. I don't know that we need to.
Starting point is 00:02:17 Do we need Rett for the show? Do you think he watched either of those games on the weekend? He's part of the show. He is. And he'll join us for part of this show, I'm sure, when he gets his shit together. Right. Yeah. Pack it in, boys.
Starting point is 00:02:32 The comments are like, yeah, we're good. If it's going to be this, we're good. You know, it's, it's, it's too cold. It is fucking cold. It's cold and. Yeah. How's Jack? Jack is, uh, think about what happened yesterday.
Starting point is 00:02:51 Think about Jack. I had the best weekend in a long time. See, you could call a duty Friday, Cod Friday. And then the Steelers make the playoffs. And they play the bills. Oh,
Starting point is 00:03:05 so good. Speaking of which, they do play the bills. Are you feeling about that? I don't know how to feel about it. Like the bills have looked pretty good last four weeks. They've also looked pretty bad at times. Well, they looked good in the second half yesterday.
Starting point is 00:03:25 Yeah. Prior to the half, it was like, ooh, this guy, this guy, it'll never change. Just throws up crazy, just throws up balls wherever, whenever. He's reckless. He's dangerous. They'll never win with him. Second half, this is what this guy's all about. Well, he's the leader.
Starting point is 00:03:42 And this is, this is the whole thing. He's like Zedorov. When he's great, you love him. When he turns over the football, you're like, you can never do it with this. I mean, the truth is he probably can't make a lot of the dazzling plays he makes without some of the risk of turning over the football. And he is when he's right, one of the best in the world at what he does. And when it looks bad, you're probably turning over the ball three, four times. So why not the bills if he wants to string four good games together?
Starting point is 00:04:15 Boy, you know, the thing about technical difficulties in starting late and doing all this is, the 1030 hit with Frank Sarah Valley comes a lot quicker in the show than otherwise. No, it's still 10.30, right? That's right. Yeah. So I mean, we started 10 normally.
Starting point is 00:04:33 Yeah, whatever. Talk about that. Our bet way bets. Jack was right. It's like we weren't paying attention. Should have known. Rudolph. He says, I don't know what.
Starting point is 00:04:46 If you guys not been paying attention, have you not been watching? The Steelers are money, baby. And they were money. So we'll look at our betway bets, I guess, coming on. We don't need to, Dean. I think that's fine. I think we got the pitcher.
Starting point is 00:04:58 Yeah. We got to reset. We got a playoff board. We'll all go to zero and zero and we'll start fresh. That's right. Yeah, that's right. Flames played yesterday. Was it yesterday?
Starting point is 00:05:08 Did they, though? Are you sure they weren't just out there getting some light cardio? I'm not sure that they played. It was very reminiscent of the games that really, uh, really got us into a twist a year ago and the year prior. Even with, I think, reduced expectations this year, it was still one of those ones, fellas, fellas. Fellas and, you know, like,
Starting point is 00:05:35 Hey, at least the first shot didn't go in. I think it was the second. Yeah. Yeah. It's the Blackhawks. Are they bad? Yeah, they're really bad. No, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:05:43 They're not just bad. The Blackhawks that were bad were all injured. This was the Rockford Ice Hogs. Yeah. So you're bad. And now you're really. really injured on top of that. There it is. Charlie Ruminatis. Romney Watis. Blackhawks, injury list, Joey Anderson, Andreas Athanas CEO, Anthony Bovillier,
Starting point is 00:06:04 Connor Bedard, Nick Felino, Tyler Johnson, Seth Jones, Taylor Hall, Taylor, Radish, Corey Perry, all out of the lineup. So what the hell? Like, what are you possibly left with? That's their first two power play units and their next skilled players. Like, that's everything they have. It's the second time on this road trip, Dean, that they played a team. was spending more money on buyouts and injuries than the actual team they were iced against them. They did been one of those two games, but that might be the worst roster we've seen in the league this year outside of San Jose last night yesterday. Yeah, there were a lot of guys that you had no idea. Can we put up the line up there?
Starting point is 00:06:45 Yeah, there was a Johnson, but it wasn't the Tyler Johnson. Yeah, I thought it was Tyler Johnson. No, no. that's that's that's somebody else Johnson yeah now we'll bring in Frank Sarah Valley here now Frank you're an NHL insider you're our insider yeah
Starting point is 00:07:00 who the like who the fuck are these guys because we talk about hockey every day on this show and I've I know I've heard of Jacob Megna and like Jared Tenorty I mean Jared Tenorty I won't it a hundred years ago and was a failed pick Isaac Philips
Starting point is 00:07:20 Who? Sennie. Cole Gutman? Colin, don't call me Jerry Blackwell. Last time I heard of a Blackwell, it was Jerry Blackwell, and he was with Champagne, Jerry Morrow in Stampede Wrestling. And Cole Gutman,
Starting point is 00:07:38 it's a who's who, Frank. Don't knock Cole Gutman. Take that back. All right, well, he was good yesterday. He was good. Look, the Hawks yesterday, I went back and looked at their opening night lineup. They only had five forwards remaining of the 13 that were on their roster.
Starting point is 00:07:57 And look, it wasn't the five that you want. I think they had one guy left from their top six. And you're dealing with the rest of the other four guys in your bottom six. I mean, I got a message from someone in Chicago last night after the game. And they go, that was a Hall of Fame effort. And I said, yeah, it was good. It was an AHL Hall of Fame effort. Rockford.
Starting point is 00:08:21 Not only did the flames lose, they deserve to lose. It was, it wasn't even a, oh, these young plucky guys came. No, they deserve to win. Well done to the Chicago Blackhawks. Let's take, hey, look who it is. It's Frank Sarvelli. Hey, Frank. How you doing, buddy?
Starting point is 00:08:40 Joining us on the insider hotline, it's a presentation of TELUS. Enter to win one of six monthly prizes, including tickets to Calgary Hockey Games. Awesome tech like AirPoc. Apple watches and more. No purchase necessary. All you have to do is fill out a quick survey to enter for your chance to win. Go online, tell us.com slash flames contest. How is everything going in Philadelphia?
Starting point is 00:09:03 What are we going to, are we going to call this the Rhett Warner Kit View? Like, what is this? What are we doing here? It's the chest cam. That's what it is. Yeah. Simply the chest. Just give us like a little bit.
Starting point is 00:09:14 Pretend like you're trying a little bit. You can turn on your mic too, Red, if you want. That's going to help us a bit. and hearing what you're saying, we're not all in the room there in Buffalo. No, still can't hear you. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:24 So, uh, that it's the old tit view. So how, are you, how's the finger watch? How's the Jalen Hertz finger watch in Philly this morning? Yeah,
Starting point is 00:09:34 I'm only thinking of one finger and it ain't that one. Okay, good. Yeah. Uh, not, not good. I mean,
Starting point is 00:09:41 have you, have you ever seen a team fold like a cheap tent and a soft win quite like this one? Oh, come on. This is very Dallas. Cowboys-esque. You look good mid-season and then your true colors are shown in your shit. We see this almost every year, Frank. It's your divisional rival. Come on.
Starting point is 00:09:55 11 and 1 to this. I know everyone's like, oh, don't worry. They'll take care of the Buccaneers. I'm like, no, they won't. They quit on this team a few weeks ago. And they left yesterday's game more injured than when they entered. How's that possible? So, yeah, stick a fork in them. It's kind of a bummer, I would think, right? You get through, because at times they looked really good this year. I literally, I am so pissed. Season ticket holder, I'm like, yes, can't wait to go to the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:10:22 Get a playoff home game. No, no you won't. No. The memes are out. That's not a good luck there. Well, it's not good. Well, we'll talk some hockey or hockey insider would seem like, rather than keep going down this fan.
Starting point is 00:10:39 Brad Trilliving, it looks like he took his checkbook out. The richest contract, is it, I'm not sure. As we look here, I've not seen, is it official? It's expected to be official. It's official. The richest contract is Toronto Maple Leafs history. 92 million dollars. And look, I certainly, because
Starting point is 00:11:01 flames fans will gag when I say this, but even structure and length-wise, it's not all that dissimilar to the Jonathan Ebertoe one. It's very similar. The players are not. The full, no-move-no-trade, plus the signing bonus. $69 million.
Starting point is 00:11:20 And it's a lot. That is a, that is a veritable windfall for William Neelander. I just think when I look at this deal and you didn't ask, but when I look at it, I feel like they're paying the absolute ceiling. William Neelander now next season, fifth highest cap hit in the league.
Starting point is 00:11:40 The big thing I keep coming back to, and I understand that the Leafs were kind of backed into this corner because they're saying, well, look how specially he's been this year. We don't, we don't want to lose this guy for nothing. We can't let him walk for free. But at the same time,
Starting point is 00:11:54 fifth overall cap hit in the league. And if you were to draft the players in the league, like is William Neelander going in the top 20? Probably at the end of that, if at all, Frank. But I mean, is it fair to compare to guys that signed deals seven years ago? That's not really apples to apples.
Starting point is 00:12:14 Like, well, okay. Okay, so how about David Pasternak? David Pasternak was, his deal was in March. Yeah. It was nine months ago. And everyone knew what the cap was doing.
Starting point is 00:12:23 Yeah. So there's no change here. Why on earth does William Nielander command two million more dollars than David Pasternak? It doesn't really, I mean, I, I, the point you make is a good one, right? But it doesn't really work in a vacuum like that. Every team has different, like they have different committed dollars. You can, what are you, what were the Leafs? options to play him this season and let him go to trade him or to sign him.
Starting point is 00:12:52 They have their own salary cap issues or whatever you want to call it, their own salary cap situation moving forward. Cap goes up. They will have to make some decisions. But I don't think you can just look and say, well, we are going to pay this guy based on how good he is in the entire league of national hockey league players, right? He's not signing that deal. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:11 You can't. Okay. So let's take it a step further then, because I disagree. The next team can only offer him seven years now. Yep. Who's paying him even close to that total dollars? Wouldn't Chicago pay him 13 a year? Why would they?
Starting point is 00:13:28 Do you want to hate yourself in five years? Because they got 22,000 fans and a superstar at Center Ice. I mean, I'm not saying it's a good investment, but I think someone would give him close to that on the market. That's what I'm saying. So you think Chicago would give him 13 times seven? Well, I'm just saying for, like, if you go to a team like Seattle that lacks a superstar,
Starting point is 00:13:48 if you look to spots where teams want to compete quickly, like the cap is higher than it's ever been, comparing him to the deal signed five, six years ago, don't make sense. He's making a quarter million more than Pashtenac. That's it. And I'd rather have Pashternak, but it's not a $2 million overpay, is it?
Starting point is 00:14:05 I think, I mean, look at his, look at last year and how special it was, not special, but how good it was. And then look at this year, and then look at all the other years. that he's had. But he's done better to me. They got some surplus value off of the current contract at $7 million.
Starting point is 00:14:24 It wasn't like extraordinarily, you know, amazing surplus value. No, listen, I understand what you're saying. You never want to pay top of the market in anything. But sometimes that's just the position that you find yourself in. Was he going to sign in the off season? We don't know that. he's a year away from unrestricted free agency. He might be betting on himself.
Starting point is 00:14:49 You know that you have Tavares eventually coming off of the cap. Two years, yeah. I think cap-wise, they're fine. They're relatively fine. You can make the case, okay, we're taking the $4.5 million increase from this summer that's projected and we're putting it right in William Neelander's jeans. Fine. Then you've got to get through one year of Tavares at 11.
Starting point is 00:15:11 and then you probably ask him to take a hometown discount, knock him down to six or seven, that's four or five additional million dollars a year, plus another increase two years from now, meaning that's an additional 10 million bucks that you didn't have. Plus this year you've got Brody coming off the books, Domi, Bertuzi, you've got to figure out your goaltending situation. But none of this, it's great that you've kept Nielander,
Starting point is 00:15:38 but let's go back to the same sort of point I was making, about the flames a few weeks ago when I joined you guys before the holidays. And I said, you're not winning with these guys. What would be the argument to keep any of them? Maybe outside of Hannafin with the Leafs, they haven't accomplished anything yet. No, but I mean, you also told us that Brovsky was great last year. And he was.
Starting point is 00:16:02 He hadn't accomplished anything until he did. No one gets over the hump until they do. A Vetchin, you couldn't win with them until you did. He hadn't accomplished anything yet. No, you're just saying you can't win with these guys. I was like, well, look up, they're always over 100 points. If they get a month of 930 goal tending, why couldn't they be in the final last year? So like Florida was markedly better than them.
Starting point is 00:16:20 I personally, I think their issue is they haven't solved their defense because the reason they can't solve it is because they're not balanced properly between forward and defense on the cap hits. And now they got a lucky get out of jail free card from John Klingberg and his injury being banished to Robita Island. and they have a window now, potentially with Samsonov's deal, to go out and write some of those wrongs.
Starting point is 00:16:47 And that's why it was really important to get Nylander done now so that if you want to go trade for a defenseman that has term, you can do that. But as currently constituted at this exact moment in time, I don't have the Toronto Maple Leafs as a cup contender. That's fine. They've got a deadline. They've got cap space.
Starting point is 00:17:07 I mean, I guess my question would be, what would you do if you were Bradshaw living here? Because he's not signing the number you want him at. You know that, right? Like, Nealner's not coming back for nine and a half. I think the play, if you're going to rewind the tape while everyone was in, you know, evaluation mode and everyone's getting their feet wet, what really would have made sense going back to last summer would have been to move
Starting point is 00:17:29 him then while his value is incredibly high. And then I would have restructured my defense. But that's, you know, hindsight is. And you can do that this summer with Marner? I mean, you could, but it seems like they're pretty set on keeping the same four guys together. But that would change now with a new contract. Like, listen, I don't really have, I'm not invested heavily in this one way or the other. I just kind of look at it.
Starting point is 00:17:54 I'm not invested at all. This is a player who has had an unbelievable season and a half, couple seasons. You can sign him, you can trade him, or you can let him go and then take the cat. those are the options and I think that you have to look at it because they have not won doesn't mean they're incapable of winning are they a perfect team right now they are not their goal tending as you said is an issue in their defense it but it's always a kind of a rolling you know it's a process constantly and what you have right now what's to say you can't move Mitch Marner in the off season
Starting point is 00:18:33 or that defense that you need or whatever the case would be. I just think it's it's because we went through the same thing here with Godreau. You should have traded Goodrow. Well, when were you going to how are you going to do that? Or you should assign Goddra the season before. Well, at that time, everybody was saying, get this guy out of here because he can't win in the playoffs and he disappears when the games matter. And then he
Starting point is 00:18:56 has a great season and well, you should have paid this guy. Well, you were saying we should. You should. should have, we should have traded this guy, not sign the guy. It's an imperfect thing. I just look at it and it's you, you are, you can sign him or you can lose him or trade him. That's all it comes down to. And I think the Leafs are better with this guy than without him. I don't, I don't like trades where you're trading away the best player in the deal. Sometimes it works out. You look at Winnipeg with the Dubois deal. That's worked out pretty good. I think Dubois is probably the best player, although he's not playing like but I would, I just think with the cap going up and you know that Tavares's money is coming off
Starting point is 00:19:38 and you've got a Marner out if you can trade him. Who would you rather have? Marner or. Yeah, this is how I'm moving forward. This is what I thought too. Like when you see this commitment, doesn't it make you think about one or the other? I get where you're at and I know who I would pick. I'd pick Mielander 10 times out of 10 over Marner.
Starting point is 00:19:58 So then they kept their second best player. Okay. I just, I'm not a believer of paying. the absolute ceiling. That's my only thing. And if you're going to be, if you're going to get strong armed, I don't think there's ever a bad,
Starting point is 00:20:13 I get this whole thing of, oh, you can't lose him for nothing and this idea of asset management. I just think teams get way too attached and that there's, you mention a process in how many different ways you could skin a cat. And I get that it's a somewhat watered down league
Starting point is 00:20:28 and when you have elite talent, you try and keep it. I'm just like, when you already are, giving the eighth year, I'm not a big believer in spending absolute mark, you know, the top of market value just to keep guys. I think there's different ways to do it. And I think for a team that has, you're right, because they haven't won doesn't mean they can't. The Washington capitals finally broke through after 10 years of good teams, the St. Louis Blues broke through.
Starting point is 00:20:57 At some point, will it shock anyone if the Leafs break through? The answer is no. But I, I, I, I personally, I don't think there's ever a bad thing in terms of saying goodbye. Like, it's okay. Teams want the security blanket. They want the comfort of knowing that they have these guys. And had things worked out differently, like had the Huberto part of this deal not been there and the contract that was signed after the fact, if you're looking at it on the whole, like how glad would Flames fans feel right now watching Johnny Goddrow play that you're not
Starting point is 00:21:34 locked into a crazy expensive deal for him. Oh, yeah. You'd also have you preferred Nealander to be fair. Okay, but going back a few years in time and now knowing how much of a premium Neelander's making on Goddrow, had you taken Johnny Goddrow at age 26 or whatever Nealander is and you put Neelander next to him, which one would you have wanted to have at this exact moment in time? I probably would have taken Godreau. You take Neelander?
Starting point is 00:22:07 I think I'd take Nealander. Watching him in the playoffs and like in that market, he is a guy that it's water off a duck's back and not many guys can do it in that market. Chatting with people around the organization, that's the difference maker for them is that I think he was a softer player
Starting point is 00:22:24 earlier in his career. I don't worry about that now. He's not great defensively. He's an elite offensive player. Those are the most expensive players in the league. and tip your cap to William Nealander. It's his contract year. He's having a career year, and he's months away from free agency.
Starting point is 00:22:38 He's not in the discount taking business right now. And, you know, you'd hope you'd have a Pashtra Nac situation, but you don't because you haven't had the success that Boston's had. And you didn't have Bergeron's and charas and Marchans taking less to stay a part of that team. That culture's not there in Toronto. And so what you're left with is paying market rates. Like, this is kind of what he's getting. going to get in AAV. So it's, you want me or not? So what does that say about, like, I think you made an
Starting point is 00:23:08 an incredibly important point about all of those, you're going to have four guys next year, all in the top 10 in cap hits. What does that say about that group that no one is willing, he's the first guy to go the distance and take the full eight years outside of Tavares, which doesn't really count because it was before all those other guys came up. I have seven years. Yeah. But what, like, What does it say about their group and their culture? I don't know that it says anything. I think there is a question to be asked of, are these guys money hungry that just want to see themselves
Starting point is 00:23:41 one up each other to get to the top and team success be damned? And what it says is no one's given hometown deals there. At least, you know, guys like Wayne Simmons and, you know, sure, Giordano, like, yeah, the depth guys might give you a Toronto discount, but the stars aren't. And if you're their agent, you're probably saying, Hey, maximize earnings, my job description. Totally get it.
Starting point is 00:24:04 My point is you've got a finite window to win where you can fit everyone, where everyone's at the prime of their career arc, and would have $80 million as opposed to $92, would it change your life at all? I mean, it's easy to say because I'm not the one giving up $12 million. But at some point, you have to ask the question, Who is actually here for the team and who's here for every last dollar. And I'm,
Starting point is 00:24:36 trust me, I'm someone that has advocated time. I want players to get as much as they can. But when you have four guys inside, four forwards inside the top 10 in league salary caps, it's kind of problematic. Yeah. I saw somebody had put out this morning that the Vegas Golden Knights were the first team
Starting point is 00:24:54 with a player on the wrong, whatever it was, making more than 10 million. I don't know. I mean, it's not least a four. aim to win a cup. So yeah, to win a cup.
Starting point is 00:25:02 So that's, and I want to move on because I know people aren't here to listen about leaf stuff, but I just want, so if it's 11.5, what's, what's the number where, if you're unhappy with it,
Starting point is 00:25:14 what's the number that you'd be happy with? Is it 10? Is it 10.5? At the end of the day, is it top dollar? It is. But how far away are you from realistic fair or what you consider fair, dollar right and if you're the team are you going to potentially lose a guy who looks like he's
Starting point is 00:25:36 coming along for a million and a half a year you probably try we'll find that million and a half somewhere else i i totally get where they're at i i do i'm just saying i'm not a big believer in paying very top of market for a player who's at the top of his ceiling i think uh go ahead yeah sorry just is anyone smiling more than sam reinhart right now who's on pace for like 60 goals. Sam Reinhardt, probably Elias Pedersen. Yeah, Elias is an R, but yeah, a year away. So same forces essentially, yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:10 I mean, if Neelander's 11.5 and you've got a franchise center who I think you meant, like I think a key part of this is sealing. I don't think Pedersen's even close to scratching his. And I'm looking at him going, that number starts with a 12 plus all day long, even on a five-year deal. Yep. I don't look at it as like, wow, these guys are getting too much. I look at it as like, man, like Pashtenik left a lot of money on the table.
Starting point is 00:26:35 McKinnon left a lot of money on the table. If McDavid asked for 15, five years ago, they would have given it to them. These other guys are all leaving money on the table and you can say, why aren't they in Toronto? Well, because they're all about trying to say. It looks like they're trying to one up each other. Like I look at McDavid taking less in Edmonton and thinking, why is he taking less so that they can overpay nurse by $3 million?
Starting point is 00:26:57 That doesn't make sense to me. taking distance to play with him. But that's the spot that you work yourself into is if you're a player, you're going, hey, wait, I'm going to leave, let's just say hypothetically that this season brought Neelander an extra
Starting point is 00:27:12 $12 million total based on the way that he's played. If you're Neelander, you're going to wait, so I'm going to leave that behind and in your hands and I have no say in how you're going to go out and spend it and no proof that it's going to be worthwhile. Aren't I better just
Starting point is 00:27:28 taking the 12 million myself totally that's my whole point the stars are the ones that should get paid not don't don't give darnal nurse nine and a quarter give macdavid 15 but so where i know that he's been their MVP this year and not to belabor this dino but like where is he on the leaf star pecking order too okay yeah that that'll be the thing right it you almost feel like maybe the Leafs have made that determination. He definitely wasn't two. Yeah. The Leaves still probably made that determination, right?
Starting point is 00:28:03 Yeah. And I think he was better in the playoffs and last year than Marner. I think it's been a better year and a half. And it looks like Nealander has taken a step. Whereas Marner's game, you're kind of like, where's he at? Where are the assists? Where's the playmaking? Where are the zone entries? It's not the same player for Marner. And I almost felt like this was a referendum on which guy are we going to keep. And when you give this guy all the signing bonus and all the term, maybe Marner is available
Starting point is 00:28:26 to some. Noah Hanifan right now for Mitch Marner. Get it down. Yeah. That'd be what I would do if I were Craig. It's amazing what happens when you're not paying attention. And I guess I wasn't paying close enough attention. It happened fast.
Starting point is 00:28:41 When is the last time the Winnipeg Jets were first overall in the national hockey league? Has it ever happened? Have they ever been the number one team in the league? I actually have a factual answer for you. The answer is never happened before zero times. Yeah. In either iteration of the franchise. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:02 They have a 718 winning percentage. They are two points better than the Rangers and the Bruins. And I guess it was, was it two weeks ago? I mean, trying to even think even before Christmas, we had heard that stat about Helibuck and the goals against and just how, how tight they were defensively. And I was kind of taken aback then. And all they've done is when hockey games since.
Starting point is 00:29:24 I have not been paying close enough attention, apparently. So the Winnipeg Jets who are quite a wagon right now. Lagon alert. They've been good. I think the last time they gave up more than three in a game, you have to go all the way back to November 2nd. Oh, yes, January. Never mind, along.
Starting point is 00:29:46 Four to the Rockford Icehogs, eh? Yeah. Here's the thing about the Jets. And I don't want to come off as too negative because they've been really the most consistent team in the league this year, I think by a wide margin. And the consistency is so valuable. I just, when it's all said and done this year,
Starting point is 00:30:05 I don't know if, are the Jets the third best team in their division? No one's got a better goal in them, I'll tell you that. No, and that's a huge part of it. But I look at the stars and I look at the aves, and the abs have had fits and starts this year. They've been a really marginal road team. They're running their goalie into the ground. Stars have been without Jake Ottinger for a huge chunk of this season and have still
Starting point is 00:30:33 acquitted themselves quite well. I love the stars back end, even Colorado as well with McCarr in that group. But to make it all the way through, I feel like the one key ingredient for me that's missing with Winnipeg is like the super duper star that's going to get you there. And it almost feels like when I watch the Jets, that they're like a Western conference version of the Carolina Hurricanes. Yeah. Deep team, competitive.
Starting point is 00:31:08 The big difference between the Jets and Cains is goalie, and maybe that superstar resides in net. But look, the way they've played this year, you have to consider them a cup contender. I just, they're closer to being outside that circle for me than being at the core of it. And they've done it with O'Connor for a month too. That's, that would be the closest to a star. I think they got.
Starting point is 00:31:31 And Nick Eilers has been just okay this year. Yeah. Which is surprising. And has missed time. And I mean, that could it be that that Dubois deal turns out to be, I mean, a huge turning point for them because he was a malcontent. He was okay for them. And he's been way less than okay for L.A.
Starting point is 00:31:51 and now all of the guys that they got in that trade, I think across the board, have been very good for them. To your point about Nealander in the end, are you better off addressing some issues that you have on your club instead of paying the star player more than you think he's worth? Not that Dubois wanted to be there, so it's a little bit different. But they took a few bits and pieces and it rarely works, but it's working right now for Winnipeg.
Starting point is 00:32:18 Yeah, I'd say more often than not, the trade of quality for quantity never really works out for the team that acquires the quantity. But in this case, backed into a corner and being able to add an entire new line to your top nine has been, you know, at the same time that you're getting a pick has been a huge boost for the Jets. And I think that kind of, to put a bow on the other part of it, like what it really comes down to, whether it's Nealander or Marner, whoever it is, are you better off getting three or four players for that 11.5 million bucks or the one star?
Starting point is 00:32:58 And I would argue on a team that already has other stars that you probably don't need him and that you're better off using the depth. But that's how I look at it. Yeah. That's impressive for Winnipeg. I thought they were in a tough spot this summer. There's no way, Shifley and Hellebuck are going to go.
Starting point is 00:33:18 They're not going to stay. They're UFAs in a year. You did get Blake Wheeler out of there, which I think was a bit of an issue for a while. You make that trade, but I mean, it looked like bubble team, Mucky Middle.
Starting point is 00:33:28 This is next level. And I guess Connor Hullabuck, like, would you, if you could build a team around a goalie right now, you pick anyone ahead of him? It's a short list either way. It's a real short list.
Starting point is 00:33:40 Maybe Thatcher Demko, maybe one of the guys in New York, maybe Sorokin, but maybe you could make an argument, a healthy Vasilevsky, but that's it. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:49 So as we obviously were now past Christmas, we're slowly plotting our way towards the trade deadline. And it does feel like it's going to be one of those things where we're going to have to wait to the trade deadline. But we're almost at the halfway mark. Teams by now, they know what they've got. They know what they need. Who's in a spot where they, you feel like they need to do something?
Starting point is 00:34:12 Because they're probably close. They're probably good enough, but there's just something like, not say hot seat or firing a coach, but who's the most in need that is that is close to being a cup contender? Is it New Jersey? Is it Carolina? Because we keep talking about those two teams. You talk about running goalies into the ground with Colorado.
Starting point is 00:34:34 We've talked about Boston and Colorado a lot here, obviously, with the Elias Lindholm kind of tie in. But it feels like it's wide open this year. A year ago, we felt like this was Boston's Cup to lose. And I think we've kind of moved on from that. I think there's, you could argue there's, there's a wide open path to a certain extent for some very good teams to do it this year. Well, especially in the East. Like, I don't know that I've ever seen a time that the East has been this wide open.
Starting point is 00:35:04 I think looking at the West, though, it's an absolute meat grinder. Like, I'm not kidding when I say that getting to the second round this year will be a, it's an accomplishment. because outside of whoever finishes in that second wildcard spot, you're looking at seven teams that I think, I'm going to include Vancouver in there, provided that they make an addition or two, that have an authentic chance to get through and win the West. That's how good, a healthy Vegas, they get their act together.
Starting point is 00:35:36 Like, tell me which group, which team in that seven, I'm including the Oilers there too. like who isn't who's not good enough to win the west it's it's that's that west bracket is going to be an absolute banana sandwich this year to watch all the way through the playoffs yeah it's because it was it two years ago peter when we looked at it and the east was basically done it felt like before christmas or two years ago last year there's no moves yeah it was just like okay uh the islanders won't catch that team and there we go we're off it was so boring and you look at it now is is Tampa Bay really going to miss the playoffs?
Starting point is 00:36:13 Are the Islanders in? Is Pittsburgh out? Are the Flyers in? Yeah. I just. The devil's going to miss? Yeah, I know. Picking the devils to win the cup.
Starting point is 00:36:23 Yeah. So it's exciting from a fans perspective. And I just wonder from a GM standpoint, if we, if there's one, and maybe they've hit that point where they look at it now and have a little bit of sober second thought or whatever. But Tampa Bay, they've been, we are going to ride this core and this, we're a dynasty. Are they still in that mode? Are they still thinking that?
Starting point is 00:36:44 What are they thinking in Pittsburgh? We talked about dedicating ourselves to the cause while we still have all these guys here. Well, they're not far out, but they have not looked like a team that's going to make any kind of noise. I just wonder some of those teams that, and even Edmonton, we know we have to spend picks and we're committed to doing it now. I wonder are they still as committed as maybe we think they are. They were two months ago. I'll start with the two teams in the East in Tampa and Pitt. I think both of them have to give their cores every opportunity possible to get in this year.
Starting point is 00:37:18 I don't include either one of them really in the same class as the top teams in the East. You know, I'd put Florida right at the top of the list with the Rangers. Carolina. Yeah, Carolina, if they could get some modicum of goaltending, which started to. Yeah, have been a bit better of late. but they've committed so much to get to this point. It'd be silly to try and at this moment in time, chop their legs off and trade a guy like Gensel.
Starting point is 00:37:47 I'm not saying you extend him, but I think that's one of those things that's going to go down to the wire. You have to give them as much runway as you can. And when my trade targets board comes out tomorrow, it's not going to have Jake Gensel on the board. And the reason for that is they're still quite within striking distance to get in. just a couple points back. And a lot of their underlying metrics in Pitt look rather pretty good,
Starting point is 00:38:11 including their goal differential. In the West, though, like, you know, and I think when talking about that meat grinder, just to bring it back to the flames is, that's really the toughest part for Craig Conroy to figure is like how, you know, to me this year is cut and dry. Like, you know what you're not. And being sub 500 at this point,
Starting point is 00:38:34 it's pretty obvious. But what are the necessary moves we have to make in order to be considered as part of that conversation? If anything, they survived the slog of their schedule and then to get through it and lose games like the one to the Blackhawks, all it really does is tell you how far out of that conversation the flames really are from being in. And that's, you're probably going to have to take a bit of a step back before you can take two forward.
Starting point is 00:39:04 There's a lot of people that hope you're right, Frank. There's a lot of people that are hoping that ownership sees it the way you're seeing it, because I still think there's a little bit of fear from some parts of the fan base that say they, you know, Husk's and the coaches have done a pretty good job. And Markstrom looks pretty good. Might win them some games. They don't deserve winning. How far they're 25th overall.
Starting point is 00:39:25 They're 12th in the West. So the way we see it, we're on the same page. Yeah. But you just hope that everybody subscribes to that. way of thinking if you are not even team tank it's just team real realism they yeah they're 25th in the national hockey league they're worse by points percentage they're even worse if the drafts tonight they pick seventh and i think more importantly i think the management group sees it the same way we all do which i i think is so critically important that it's not that
Starting point is 00:39:59 Mary Edwards is stubborn, if you make a compelling argument, you can win him over. The mantra has always been be as competitive as possible. But this team, I think right now as it's structured, is a long way from being in that group. And that they've got some serious surgery to do. But when you have Craig Conroy, who's been there for a long time,
Starting point is 00:40:26 and more importantly, Jerome McGinla as a voice, that to me, I think, is going to be a huge difference maker in terms of making a compelling argument to ownership to say, we've got to begin selling off pieces. I think they're ready to do that. I think they're ready to be active. I think they haven't gotten enough sort of serious inquiries yet to get to the point where they have something on the table that makes them interested. But I think this management group is looking at it saying, hey, you know, we see it. We hear you. We see you. they're not huge talkers in the sense of we're going to be pounding our fists on the table,
Starting point is 00:41:03 but I think ultimately their actions are going to speak louder than anything. And what you described earlier, Frank, is teams that think their playoff teams and want to be playoff teams that are outside of the pitcher looking in in the east and seven teams that could win the West. That reeks of a seller's market in terms of Craig Conroy being able to do well if he is going to trade a defensive second pair defenseman in TANiv,
Starting point is 00:41:26 a two, three like Hanifin. a number two center Elias Lindholm. Like this is a really, really shaping up to be a good market to sell these types of assets, I would suggest. Potentially, I mean, I just think outside of some of the pieces that are up for grabs in Calgary market-wide, it's going to be a really tough market because the other part of it is I was talking to a player last week who's trying to get moved right now. And he said, look at the league, man.
Starting point is 00:41:57 He goes, 32 teams, 22 of them are just okay. He looked at it and he said, I think there's five elite teams, five god-awful teams and 22 teams that are at varying points of the, you know, one to 22 scale in that group that are scrapping to get into the top five. And then there's a couple teams that are scrapping to avoid being in the bottom five. And then you've got a whole bunch of teams like, are they actually going to be active in buying that? I think it's going to be tougher to find interested parties that are willing to outlay significant assets to get over the hump. Maybe there's teams in the West Pinder that are saying, we're looking at a coin flip this year.
Starting point is 00:42:39 Why would we go, you know, maybe as constituted right now, we have just as good of a chance as opposed to going out and spending major assets that may be the idea is to stay in the game as long as possible instead of hitting an inevitable downturn. Does that make any sense? It does. Yeah, I guess it could go out there. Which could be a nightmare for Craig Conroy. Yeah, I'm still quite there. I mean, you think seven teams can win the West and you tell me there's only five good teams in the league? Like which one of those things is true?
Starting point is 00:43:06 They can't both be true. I lean, like I said, I was sharing an opinion. No, I know. I lean more towards that there's seven teams in the West that are authentic chances to break through. And I just don't know if they're all going to be in an absolute. arms race to get there. And I was going to ask you, and we don't want to keep you too long because I know you're a busy guy. But you got to go? No, I'm good. You're right? I wonder if part of that, because we keep
Starting point is 00:43:39 hearing the Hanifan thing seems to be they're going to trade him. Oh, he might say, they're going to sign them. Oh, no, no, they're going to trade him. Now I might keep. I wonder if, if part of that maybe brings everybody back to the table. We're going to trade them unless it makes no sense to trade him. We like him. He's still young enough. You could sign him to a relatively long-term deal. And he feels like the type of player who's going to give you decent years over the course of that deal. I wonder if we're not past the point of a potential Haniffin extension here. I don't think we are. I just think there's been massive frustration on the flames part of like, whoa, wait a second. We gave you everything you asked for. You more or less were close to verbally,
Starting point is 00:44:24 agreeing to a deal and then you got cold feet at the last second. I think the last thing the flames want is to sign a player to a deal like that. And then at 18 months into it, he's like, you know what, this place wasn't for me. I'm not up for maybe the step back that we have to take. I've been saying since the very beginning, it can't possibly be trade every single one of these guys. But I would try and extract the most value that I can while keeping one of them and Hanifin kind of makes the most sense at this point in time to be that guy that can help bridge you to wherever you want to get to. It doesn't need to be five years before you can be competitive again.
Starting point is 00:45:05 I think there's plenty of teams that have shown you that you can do it in a two to three year window if you do it right. And Hanofin would have to be a big part of that in order to get there because just go through the rest of your defense corps. Who's going to provide you the minutes and things that you. need if not for him. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:27 I got 2D under contract in the whole organization. That's not enough. Yeah. So he makes sense. But he also has to want to be there. And you better be damn certain you want to be there because the last thing you want to do, like I said, is him turn around 18 months from now and say, get me out of here. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:43 And to your point earlier on the Elander, he can be good, but you don't need to overpay him. 100%. You had a lot of people in the, uh, the chat who were suddenly craving banana sandwiches today. It's true. I thought they were just going to say, Frank's a prick. Get him out of here. Oh, I mean, that's there every week.
Starting point is 00:46:00 The banana thing was new. That's not news. Have a fun. Where did the tit cam go? I don't know. Unbelievable. Yeah, it's hard to say. Appreciate your pal.
Starting point is 00:46:11 We'll talk to you next week. See you guys. Hey, I'll see you in. Jasper. Hey, we're going to, are we all going to carpool together? I'm coming to Calgary. I'm coming in for the tree living bowl. Frank.
Starting point is 00:46:23 You know what that? That means. Mezcal means? You're going to get pendered. Oh, I mean, that's invariable. Like, you are going to get, I'm with Pinder for five days. You're going to get pendered at some point. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:34 You're in trouble. You're on the Charlie tracks here, bud. Yeah. Yeah. I'll see if I can prep my liver between now and then. Pack accordingly. Yeah. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:44 Yeah. Thanks, Frank. Talk to you. There you go. On the insider hotline of presentation of TELUS. Tell us have been part of the, and partners with the flames since 2005. committed to hockey, committed to Calgary.
Starting point is 00:46:56 They tell us skater program, you know, that one. They identify deserving youth, participate in the pregame skate, have the little, you know, get out there at twirl. Did you ever do that as a kid? You were a pampered city boy. Did you ever go out and skate with the flames before a game? I did not, Dean. It seems like a good time.
Starting point is 00:47:12 I'd love to get my kids to do it, you know, being pampered city kids. That's right, yeah, yeah. But there's a lot of pampered city kids. That's the thing about the city of 1.3 million people. Yeah, that's right. You got to beat out a lot of competition in the pampered city kid car just a matter of time before you would have been out there uh maybe or maybe you just weren't on board with tell us and you shouldn't have been why wouldn't you be tell us it was pre tell us
Starting point is 00:47:33 but make the future friendly uh the most given company in the world check them out online tellus dot com and of course tell us dot com gives back they are the most given company in the world uh tit cam hi rat hello he's not muted That's a fun today, huh? It's one of those days, fellas. One of those days. I thought you had one of those days in the weekend from some of the things I saw in the old internet. You went viral a little bit, eh?
Starting point is 00:48:10 Apparently it did. Yeah. That's one way to keep your name in that sort of news cycle around coaching, though, Rhett. I don't think it's maybe the best way to do it, but it's not the worst. I mean, some people say no PR is bad PR. Hey, boys will be boys. That's what I think. How am I going to control that sort of stuff?
Starting point is 00:48:31 Yeah, you're just a head coach. What are you supposed to do? Keep these kids under control? These players are on the ice. You want to tell people what happened? Well, we can show them. That might even be better. Oh.
Starting point is 00:48:43 Do we have, uh, oh yeah. Well, Rhett sent something that looked like it was shot off a potato, but luckily people on the internet are better than Rhett at internet things. And so before we show it, you were in, Port something on the weekend with your with your kids hockey team. Do you understand? Oh, it's a big tournament, big tournament. Silver sticks.
Starting point is 00:49:02 Big silver sticks. Yeah, it's a huge tournament. I believe this is what the Barry Colts you're taking on here. Yes, absolutely. And Japan is all crew. Razors. Must have been situation. Okay.
Starting point is 00:49:16 Which you tied in the end. Did you know? Actually, well, that's, I'll finish the story with that story. We'll come back to that. So let's start with the video. Is that what we need, Brett? Sure. Have a look at the silver sticks.
Starting point is 00:49:32 How old are these players, right? 14. Cages, throwing punches. George of Sweetland's kid over here. Way to go, George. What the age? We're not going to. Hey, we're trying to win here.
Starting point is 00:50:04 Yeah, it looks like it. And as we speak, and as we speak, I got a text from Coach Colleta. You will be suspended along with all five of the kids. Well, did. Really? What? I can't believe it. I think I'm going to have to, what, what's the term of, like, debate?
Starting point is 00:50:32 Appeal. I'm going to appeal. Yeah. Well, I mean, the footage there. It really doesn't look like anything serious. It's just kids being kids. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:45 You can't expect a coach to be able to rein that type of behavior in D. I mean, what are I going to do? Yeah. Now, did you suffer any injury? Did you cut your fingers or anything when you were like scaling the glass to get at the other coach? Because I can't imagine you were calm and cool. I was totally
Starting point is 00:51:01 calm and cool. We actually had a bit of a side grin at each other. But then I did approach their bench and a whole bunch of people are like, oh my God, oh my God. But I went to him to say, do you suppose we should send an adult or one of our coaches down to the dressing room so they don't carry on down there? Because the rooms were right next to each other. Like literally you walked out the same hallway together.
Starting point is 00:51:29 You need a big urn to separate the tortillas and heartlies of the world, right? Like just someone in the middle to hold them off each other in the hallways. So was it one of those? games that where they were just going it could you sense that this was a powder keg i didn't think so uh no the we played adrian a coin's team the night before and that game didn't start till 1015 uh so the boys were a little actually sleepy that game against barry and all of a sudden there was one hit and i would say it was questionable not not not evil. Maybe you could call the penalty. I don't know. And then the boys decided we're going to have
Starting point is 00:52:15 a bit of a Donnybrook here. Let's have a go. I also liked that one of your kids does the old USA just won the world junior goals. Let's taunt the fans. As he's backpedaling for his life. Yeah. That's a look. Oh yeah. Come on. Hey. Hey. Hey. Yeah. Back it up. Back it up. bonding. We've got to get the boys. They rallied around each other. Good job. That's nice. There's a lot. There's a lot to take in. Her, you want some of this? Oh, hey, what? What? Hey, what? No, no. Just working on my backwards crossovers. Don't mind me. That one down there. The Barry. George. The very. The guy in front of the net, those two fighting, the Barry guy actually grabbed his helmet and tried to hit him with it. Classic. Yeah, look at that. Good freeze, Jack.
Starting point is 00:53:05 Yeah, that one. No, I'll have to take the goalies to go the distance and get into it? No, because my goalie Waterman got in shit for that earlier in the year. We had a discussion. What's the theme here, Rhett?
Starting point is 00:53:21 Going down the ice. We're not going to go down lightly. We've got to go down swinging, I guess. So was this game two or three? Did you play after this? What's happening here? No, this was this was the last game. We had to well here's the rest of the story oh dear so excuse me hang on uh-huh we had to uh i was under the assumption
Starting point is 00:53:51 anyway that it was a move to have any chance of carrying on in the tournament so at that point it was six to five when the big scrap came out and all five boys were asked to leave the surface and that was we were down we were short but i pulled pulled the goalie and we managed to tie it up. No. Six, six, six, about 45 seconds left, maybe a minute. And apparently I had my intel. My, my intel was a little off and a tie would do just fine.
Starting point is 00:54:26 But I pulled the goalie again. Oh. You need a staff guy, right. You need a stats guy. Like the last 40 to 50 seconds. with an empty net and Barry's just shooting a puck down the ice. No clue that if we lose, like obviously we lose,
Starting point is 00:54:46 we're done, but if we're tie, we're in good shape, well, we're not in good shape, but we got a chance. And you know what? The parents had to be,
Starting point is 00:54:55 what is he doing? Oh, why are we pulling the goalie? And back to Adrian of coin. So that was a team. We needed the end to tie or lose. It was a goal differential thing. So they're the game after us.
Starting point is 00:55:11 And if Barry, that's so convoluted, right, this tournament, if Barry wins, they're actually eliminated. So they're watching this game going, what is this ass hat doing, pulling his goalie? Like, if Barry score, if they tie, they can move on. If Barry scores everybody, we're screwed and so are they. Yeah, we're going home. What's, what's he doing? why I see how to get me.
Starting point is 00:55:39 It's like, who's doing your math? And I'm like, I don't know. So pretty much a pretty solid weekend for you as the coach then. You, uh, felt like I handled it well. Yeah. Yeah. I did what I needed to do. So what does a line brawl get the coach of a U15 team?
Starting point is 00:56:00 Uh, I think just the game. They're not in the league, right, Dean? That's the thing. It's like, what is this tournament? They just the iron. League? Is this the Colonial League? What are we talking about here? You know what? Maybe, hey, you know what? Maybe less time watching Barnburner, more time parenting your kid. Yeah, because I mean, your kid's kid was on the bench, though. Am I crazy?
Starting point is 00:56:24 That was a penalty box. George's the box was right in the middle of it. Best coach ever. Right. Just needs an analytics guy on his staff. That's all. Someone that can do math, simple addition and subtraction. So, so coin makers team all use wood sticks. or does he allow some he moved on to the yeah the old lumber he was one of the last good for him so what's the
Starting point is 00:56:52 what's the vibe after that like well okay and more to the story so then I'm down there and our assistant coach is trying to because we've got a tournament the next tournament we'll have five guys out right yeah for a game And so he's trying to finagle that maybe a couple of the boys didn't fight and maybe they should just have tens. And then the tournament guy, he starts preaching at us like, I've never seen such shameful acts.
Starting point is 00:57:27 How do you think I responded to that? Not well. No, that's, you're exactly right, Pinder. Choice words. Flip of the bird, maybe. Thanks for. Yeah. It's nice to hear from me.
Starting point is 00:57:41 you, Mr. Tournament organizer? I haven't watched hockey in the 90s, hey? You didn't watch hockey 20 years ago? That's the worst he's ever seen. Come on. That's how many text coming in. Netflix is calling. They'd like to follow your team for the rest of the season.
Starting point is 00:57:58 I feel like there's some real good stuff that they're missing. Youth sports would a show it would be. How was your kid not involved? I just, this has to be an automatic. Yeah, randomly he had, he'd blown a skate lace. He was changing his skate lace at the time. You can't write it, Dean. No, you can't.
Starting point is 00:58:24 You can't do it. Well, I'm sorry that it didn't work out better, but. Yeah, damn. Only you'd scored another with that empty net. Yeah, we could have just scored to absolutely not help anything. Yeah, to win for no reason. So not change your cause. Like, it's just so good.
Starting point is 00:58:41 The other coach is on the other team. What the fuck is he doing? Okay, well, okay, boys, empty now. We play to win here. Right. As he can see. Right. So which tournament and when do you now play short-handed?
Starting point is 00:58:59 I think it's called the Buffalo Cup here in Buffalo. Oh, it's the one you don't want to miss. I mean, all of the city comes out for that one now. That's too bad. So when you're suspended, are you still allowed in the ring, or do you have to be in the car? Actually, I don't know. I'm going to have to clarify these details,
Starting point is 00:59:16 just like the scores of the games that I should know about and rules. Get your stats got on it, eh? Yeah. I would love to see any email correspondence that takes place between you and whoever is going, whoever is in any position to suspend you in this league you're not in or these tournaments that you don't,
Starting point is 00:59:36 I don't know how it works, but that would be great. I'd love to hear the, dear Mr. Warner, the actions of your your hockey team. Absolutely. It was egregious. Unaccepting. And then your response, blow me.
Starting point is 00:59:54 Love red, said, sir, please remove your hats. And, yeah. All right. Well, we got, let's get to some things here. Get some things. We got a lot to get to here. I want to tell you about, and I was very excited when I saw this email, because you know how I am about this. Wendy's. Huh.
Starting point is 01:00:13 Yeah, it is, it's the, of course, it's the daily faceaw, Survivor pool for Wendy's. GAA, PPPG, it can make it break your week, but don't overlook the BPMM. Wendy's bacon, portabella mushroom melt. It's back, Dino. This is your baby. I have a hard time.
Starting point is 01:00:38 Welcome home. Hard time when this, why, I don't know, Why this isn't, listen, Wendy's, whatever, how this isn't a regular staple on your menu. It's atrocious.
Starting point is 01:00:47 I don't know what. It may not help you win weekly prizes with Wendy's and daily face-off fantasy, but unlike your predictions, it never disappoints. Try your luck. Don't push it because the bacon, portabella mushroom melt is only back for a limited time,
Starting point is 01:01:02 and if you miss it, you do not get a second chance. Sign up for the daily face-off survivor pool today, sponsored by Wendy's and the Wendy's app. So get the Wednesday, these app and the bacon portabella mushroom melt. This is like some crazy Kauai Leonard load management nonsense. Like how are you not using this burger 365 days here?
Starting point is 01:01:24 Love you, maybe they've got it figured out. Maybe it's, you know, you make, they know what they're doing. They're Wednesdays. Like they won with Kauai doing that. So maybe load the portabella melt.
Starting point is 01:01:33 I don't know. Oh, mushroom melt. Melty cheese. Yeah. Bacon. Uh-huh. on a burger. I mean,
Starting point is 01:01:49 come on now. I order like three at a time, four at a time. I just, he can't stop. I'm taking the over to me. Thank you, Wendy's. Thank you, Wendy's for the, for the Survivor Pool. And, of course, for the bacon mushroom bell.
Starting point is 01:02:04 Delicious. Go to DailyFaceoff.com and click on the Wendy Survivor Pool logo on the top right. And Dean, you can start off today. Get one of the props correct. And you move on to tomorrow. I'm on a Quinn Hughes over a half point today. That seems like the easiest money around. Quinn's just been sensational this season.
Starting point is 01:02:21 And how does a survivor pool work for those that are, those of us that don't know how this works? So there are 10 things you can select today to occur in the NHL. If the thing you choose to occur does happen, you'll survive till tomorrow's. All right. Another 10 options. And if you get to the end of the week,
Starting point is 01:02:38 well, you're in the mix for some prizes. There you go. I will get one today. I have to take my dog out for... There's no chance you don't after everything I've just heard. Can I get five, please? And just sit and one for my dog, four for me. That's how that breakdown will go.
Starting point is 01:02:57 You've got two dogs. I do. The other guy is, it's not really his. I mean, I guess I could take him. He's not a big car ride guy. The new guy or the old guy? The old guy. He just kind of sits there.
Starting point is 01:03:13 The big other young, dumb guy's got his head out the window just i loves it all old warner sitting in the back when do i get to go back in front of the fireplace oh loves it especially now it's outside quick tinkle and then races back to the beanbag chair it's he's stuck on a lot of body fat so it's outside oh oh oh tinkle tinkle back to the fireplace all right We are leaving for Phoenix on Thursday, right? That's correct. I have a passport ready.
Starting point is 01:03:54 I have lanyards arriving today. I am actively searching for pregame watering holes. I have been communicating with the nation's people that have set up our itinerary. And I'm also looking for Friday activities. Dean, I've got good news and bad news. Okay, good. good um it's a off air or off show conversation who's kind of is there do we have a someone who's in charge coordinator oh god oh is it it's pinder okay good so we're gonna meet at this brewery at

We're going to give away a couple of trips on the Barn Burner vacation to Arizona. You needed to be following Oudle Noodle. You needed to be following us on Instagram. You got to have a passport. You got to be able to go. and apparently we found some people that said,
Starting point is 01:05:16 yeah, we can make that swing. So courtesy of Oodle noodle, which is delicious. You know, here I'm tough. So the fat guy likes food, eh? Oh, stunner. Love the Oudel noodle. Congrats to Eric and Lucas.
Starting point is 01:05:36 These two donkeys have got passports and are coming with us down to Phoenix on Thursday. They also have a buddy coming with each. them it's Eric plus one and Lucas plus one. These don't. I know. Fired up, Dean. Yeah, they are fired up. I don't blame them. That's a hell of a prize, you know?
Starting point is 01:05:53 Who else is doing that? Nobody else, that's who? I'll answer it for you. That's who. Nobody. And we are very happy and appreciate the efforts of Alberta Blue Cross, who are taking care of us. They were on board from day one, presenting sponsor of this trip, and who
Starting point is 01:06:08 better? Only one thing better than sharing memories, and that's making new ones. Alberta Blue Cross travel insurance protects your memories and more. Wherever travel takes you, visit ab.bluecross.com slash travel for more information. Alberta Blue Cross celebrating life's memorable moments inspired by hockey. Starting point is 01:06:33 You get Alberta Blue Cross on board. Go have fun. Don't think of anything. Don't think about anything else. I have a treat for you. You two and everyone else coming on the trip. If I can get through customs with it. Okay, good.
Starting point is 01:06:50 What are the odds? Quite high. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. As long as you're respectful and polite to the people in charge, I think you're fine. Yeah. So check out Oodle Noodle online.
Starting point is 01:07:02 Final location near you. There is one in Erdry. There are two in Calgary. One's on 17th. A new one in Beacon Hill. More coming out. They're just, they're constantly driving around Calgary looking, well, this would be a good spot.
Starting point is 01:07:11 This would be a good spot. This would be a good spot. A bunch up in Edmonton and not just lip service. It's my daughter's favorite restaurant. Where are we going? Can we go to Oodle Noodle? Can we go to Ouddle Noodle? She loves the Mongolian noodle.
Starting point is 01:07:25 So that's the recommendation from my daughter, if you need it. Or you can just do whatever you want. Spring rolls are real good too, Rhett. Spring rolls. Very good. What dippy sauce? I need a dippy sauce with the spring roll. it's what's the usually it's not a plum is it a tie what do they got what do you do with spring
Starting point is 01:07:46 it's kind of like the the the orangy you can see through it a bit very good flakes marmalade no no yeah sure kind of looks like marmaline um sure it's kind of look marmaline uh so we got a few things here i want to talk about we talked about the nilander deal plenty that's done yeah um did the bills fire their coach yet or is he still no no they haven't lost yet Dean. Oh, okay. They're in the blast. Once they lose, then.
Starting point is 01:08:14 Okay, just wondering how that's going to go. Arthur Smith fired, Ron Rivera fired. Do we have any Bill Belichick update? Do we know if he's sticking around? I haven't seen one. The Carolina Panthers GM that didn't take C.J. Stroud, he's been fired as well, Stunner. Oh, really?
Starting point is 01:08:28 Because they picked one and I think moved to having an earth pick one, didn't they? Terrible, yeah. What did they get? Yeah, that Bryce Young fellow who doesn't have a lot of help, but also doesn't look like C.J. Stroud. No, Strout's good. good strout is pretty good uh there's oh geez it's our boy j kuda with another banger yeah have you scored since christmas yes of course and then carolina no we've not scored since christmas i didn't
Starting point is 01:08:57 realize i don't doubt j kuda if he says no no he's obviously uh it's obviously so maybe i need j kuda for to do my stats for me figure your appeal yeah keep things in line for you for you for I was wondering if you're saying you'd not scored since Christmas. Never mind. I'll take it. Pinder report? Sure. All right.
Starting point is 01:09:22 Sure. Village Honda, of course, brings you every single day. They bring you the Pinder report as well. They are your dealership for life. You head up there. They've got used. They've got pre-owned. They've got the brand MSRP.
Starting point is 01:09:34 Excuse me. I was wondering. Is this new vehicle? Is it MSRP? It is, Dean. All of our new vehicles. our MSRP. That's what you're looking for.
Starting point is 01:09:49 Service quality. Fine, ladies and gentlemen, working up there, the best people that you want to have involved in your purchase, in your pursuit of a newer pre-owned vehicle, it's Village Honda, located in the Northwest, Automol and online at VillageHonda.com, presenting the Pinder Report. Well, we'll start with the second matinee
Starting point is 01:10:07 in as many days for the Calgary Flames that occurred yester afternoon, if that's a word. As the flames somehow fell to most of the Rockford Icehogs and a very small number of Chicago Blackhawks. We had Ryan Pike and Kent Wilson, making his after-Burner debut. They talked about maybe one of the worst losses of the year for the flames. I don't think it's unfair to say the flames don't have any game breakers. I'm pretty sure if we went into that locker in the United Center and say,
Starting point is 01:10:36 do you guys have anybody that can steal a game? They'd say maybe they're goalies. So they don't have any Godros or Kachucks or arguably Monaghan. So they kind of have to do it by committee. And this is the type of game where, you know, the tank was a little bit empty because they were pushing and pushing and pushing. But the flame's entire system relies on speed execution and movement. But it seemed like one by one speed execution and movement all kind of went by the wayside
Starting point is 01:11:02 for a big chunk of especially that second period. And, you know, that's what you get, right? Yeah, you also need to execute on the details when you're by. committing kind of team, right? You can't have the giveaways that we saw in the neutralized and their own zone. Yeah, it just became really slow and really sloppy. And I think a lot of that was probably being tired, but they're also a mediocre team, unfortunately. So sometimes, some nights, that's what you get. It's a great point. I was going to say, yeah, it's true. So you're, yeah, you're tired and you're not that good. Yeah, the old team could roll in and, yeah,
Starting point is 01:11:37 We're not playing that well, but Johnny made a sick play, and Monahan buried one from the slot. And, you know, Lindy was wide open on the back door. And yeah, they found a way to win. Good teams find a way to win. This is not that. They need everyone to be playing well to win. They can beat good teams. But there's never a night where you can just look and say, yeah, we're getting two if we show up.
Starting point is 01:11:56 And that sort of was what it looked like to me yesterday was you saw guys trying to do things they wouldn't normally do. Oh, I'll just beat the sky wide. I'm last man back, but these guys are no good. We're better than the mistake, mistake, mistake. you're not better than them does that happen when you're when when when there's fatigue ret your your your brain starts the i'm going to freelance i'm just going to try i'm going to try and do something here that if i was rested and cerebral i would never try this okay they're tired but like they were should they be that tired they didn't get in at four in a morning no but it was
Starting point is 01:12:33 back to back it's not crazy they they did look they looked they looked mentally fatigued. It was just making plays that were not there. Yes. They didn't play well. They were not sure. I don't, I don't disagree with what you're saying. I think they probably have fatigue, but I just, I'm like, okay, but again, they
Starting point is 01:12:55 played the afternoon before they got in at a decent hour. Sure, it's a four game road trip. And yes, it takes something out of you. But we just, you've kind of. see it's a different team but you still you've seen that song and dance before going into Chicago where it's like I think there it's as much overlook in the blackhawks as it is fatigue yeah I was going to say that's part of it right you go in there last game oh they got a bunch of guys out and we're leaving after the game I just not that you look past I just think it's
Starting point is 01:13:31 one of those days where you're just your brain has taken the day off and your body followed right behind it. Human nature. Yeah. Which is not letting them off the hook because that was a bad, that should be a very, that's a beatable team for. Oh yeah. 30 teams in the NHL.
Starting point is 01:13:48 But as that second period went along, you just like, they're going to get scored on here. And then they did. And they're going to lose this game. And they did. Yeah. It's funny because they were really close to a road trip that probably could have had you playing the other side of the coin.
Starting point is 01:14:04 I mean, if not for a short-handed goal, the third period. It's a great effort in Philly with great goaltending again. Kind of got pushed around a little. You got Phillyed in Philly. But it was right there. And then it's like, okay, so if that's the one game you lose, you close the road trip with a win over a bad Chicago club, you're coming home with six of eight. That's pretty respectable. They don't. It's 500. And now the flip side is true where you played four teams. None are I think playoff teams necessarily. Maybe Minnesota is. Maybe Philly is. Maybe Nashville is certainly not Chicago. no world beaters there.
Starting point is 01:14:38 And you played two of the teams with more than half their cap not iced. And you only get two wins. So you out shoot, you outscore. You kind of lose special teams by a shorty. That's it. But could have been a really good road trip if they just took care of business. Actually, it wasn't. And instead, it's like, yeah, that's not a good road trip.
Starting point is 01:15:00 And you look at when that road trip started. These two games at the end, matinee games, no good. Yep. And they were kind of no good. Yeah. Yeah, but that, and again, Wilson said it, that's, that speaks to what team you have because really good teams win those two. Yeah. Totally.
Starting point is 01:15:21 When you saw the flames roll through Colorado and Vegas in December and they had leads on those teams and those teams weren't necessarily that sharp, they just bared down and their superstars made plays and they won games that they were down heading into the third on. They got special teams goals late. this team can't do that. They have to put 60 minute efforts or something close to that fourth. And certainly not anything close to 60 yesterday. We'll move.
Starting point is 01:15:46 Schedule. Oh, no, before we get there. Silver linings, friends, silver linings. Let's turn that frown upside down, Rhett. Minnesota is 500. Ignore them. If the draft is tonight, flames are going to the podium seventh, assuming no lottery ball tomfoolery.
Starting point is 01:16:04 Seventh Dean, this isn't mucky middle. This is straight. this we're getting in the right direction. And never mind when they start selling players, trading guys. I was thinking of that yesterday, too, because we've talked about it. Sometimes you trade away players and you saw it with Chicago, you get a bunch of young guys in there and they're so excited. But watching the flames and you think without, without Lindholm or without Hanifan. Tanaf, too.
Starting point is 01:16:27 That's, uh, I'm not sure how much. There's a lot of piss and vinegar and vim and vigor, but, hmm, not sure. You didn't have them yesterday. Markstrom's the one that. keeps you in it. That's true. I was thinking about that. If Markstrom's in yesterday,
Starting point is 01:16:41 I think that script plays out very differently. That's a tough start full of Vidar again. And I didn't think Marazik was good at the other end. That goal that goes in off of D. Simone is, it's like stand-up comedy. Yeah. He's standing there and it's like, he didn't move. And I guarantee you he saw it coming.
Starting point is 01:16:59 He's like, this is going to go off my friggin' skating in, isn't it? Doink. And it did. Yeah, it did. Didn't move. He didn't move. a friggin' inch. It's so he was trying to do it.
Starting point is 01:17:11 Oh, perfect. Outta boy, Nick. Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday. There's your month right there. And yes, they will be joining us in Arizona, Dean, on Thursday and then go to Vegas after that. Longest homestown of the year. They got six in a row at the dome heading into All-Star break.
Starting point is 01:17:32 That is three weeks without a road game, fellas. settle in for some dome cooking. I'll take a shovel for that. I'm sorry. Why aren't we going to Vegas from Arizona? Is there a reason why we didn't? Well, we could have. I think Rhett was very worried about the Bill's playoff game.
Starting point is 01:17:59 That's what he was. There is that. There is that. I got to pick up Jack at the airport on Saturday in Toronto. Yeah, that's right. Rhett's flannel to Jack. Jack, you're going to head out there for that one? If Rhett put you up,
Starting point is 01:18:14 I'd donate 100 bucks to a flight, Dean. Hunter? He's got Taylor Swift tickets, never mind. 50 bucks? 25. Twin dog, 20. Wendy's is out with the big guy. I got a lot of money.
Starting point is 01:18:31 That's, you there goes to 20. Sorry, Jack. For that this month. So it's a seasonal thing. It's, yeah. You know, couldn't have picked the worst time. Yeah, it's a bad time. We'll get to the NFL in a moment.
Starting point is 01:18:44 Jacob Marksum did not play yesterday. He did in Philly. He was excellent. This is not the be all and end all, but it's significant. This is goals save above expected. So based on the quality of shot you're facing, how many goals should have gone in that haven't. Connor Ingram's having a monster year with Phoenix.
Starting point is 01:19:00 After tackling some mental health issues, Jacob Markstrom is officially back fellas. As is that your Demco, who we saw lots of credit going to with Frank moments ago. Connor Hullabuck's in that category. Markey's playing in an environment a lot more difficult than a lot of these other goleys. And you can tell because the actual real goalie numbers are just good, not great. But the advanced stuff is phenomenal because, yeah, you got a lot of DeSimone, Austerly, Gilbert in your life, whereas the Bruins don't, right? Good season.
Starting point is 01:19:37 Boy, Jacob. Wow. Is there a Selhigh moment? I was going to say kind of good, but we still have to have that conversation. What are we going to do with this guy? I guess what you do is you set your price sky high rate. And if someone meets it, you're like, yep. And if someone doesn't, you're like, well, hopefully he's good again next year.
Starting point is 01:19:55 And we've got more cap space and it's easier to make a deal. We'll do it then. You start with the conversation with him, right? Yeah. Does he's got the no move? Do you have? Is that an awkward thing to do or is that just business? I think it's awkward if you haven't traded anyone else.
Starting point is 01:20:09 But if you've already moved a TAN of who he was pals, within Vancouver and a Linholm who is apparently one of his pals as well. I think it's a natural conversation. I'm like, hey, you came here. These were two of the big reasons you came here. They're gone. Where are you at?
Starting point is 01:20:24 We can go two different ways here. But even now, you could, if you're having the sober conversation, Lindy is not coming back. Yeah. And odds are very strong that we'll be trading TANF. Yeah. With that in mind, knowing next year that both of those guys are probably gone,
Starting point is 01:20:40 we're probably going to try and get young. what do you want to do? Or, because that would seem like it's an easy conversation to have. Or do you taint waters and relationship? Is that? I don't know. I think you get closer to the deadline. It's real life.
Starting point is 01:20:56 I don't know. Yeah. And you also let this team make the decisions for you. As you heard Don Maloney say, like it's, the team's going to show you what to do with the deadline, Connie. And we all think it's going to go a certain way. And I think when you're seventh from the bottom, one game away from the midpoint of your season.
Starting point is 01:21:12 We're getting close to saying you are what you are. Imagine if they hadn't done so well on the gauntlet run. I know. Shoot me in the face. They have been playing better. Stupid New Jersey and Carolina came in and looked like absolute horseshit. I know they only won one of those two,
Starting point is 01:21:29 but like they should have been steamrolled back Carolina. Isn't that the fear moving forward? Like they got it. Not that Arizona's bad anymore, but they got them a couple times. Columbus, there's a Chicago before the end of the month. Yeah. They got to be able to play against.
Starting point is 01:21:46 It's kind of the rub with this group. When they're right, they can hang with good teams. It's just everything has to go great. And I think that's why we're giving Huska a lot of credit for a team that's seventh from the bottom is they haven't really been out of a lot of games. Anyway, I mean, the answer is, yeah, it's a sell high moment for sure. But I don't know if it's, I don't know how realistic it is. Look at this. There's some breaking news.
Starting point is 01:22:11 Pat Baum. Peltier assigned to the American League, had shoulder surgery coming out of camp, and there you go. There's no log jammed forward yet, but Coronado has been phenomenal lighting up the American League. Now you see a Peltier return coming. You've got Schillington with that group. Maybe it is time to open up some space for some youngsters.
Starting point is 01:22:33 There was another transaction that occurred in the last few hours because Netsov is back down. That's Yon, the second rounder. He did not play. That probably leads us to believe that Dennis Gilbert. where it should be ready to go by Tuesday. It was not news, but did or didn't. It didn't look like he would be ready to go.
Starting point is 01:22:53 No, he was smiling on the photo in Philly the next day outside the Rocky statue. And it was like, okay, he's with the group. He's still traveling. He's smiling for the photo. He's going on the field trip.
Starting point is 01:23:03 At the time of that injury, I wouldn't have bet that was the case, to your point. Okay, NHL News, Nealander, inked. We saw it. We argued about it. with Frank. He's a very good player. He makes a lot of money. Is it too much? Probably.
Starting point is 01:23:17 Could you keep him without giving him too much, Dean? I doubt it. So there's the rub that Trilliving was in and Nealander bends him over on everything. He gets the signing bonus. He gets a lot of the money up front. He gets the full no move, but that's kind of what happens when you're dealing with stars in their walk year. They have the leverage. So there's your biggest five for next year. Doesn't it feel like the Leafs and have kind of have done this for all their top guys. Yeah. I'm not, I'm not.
Starting point is 01:23:46 And people said it's dubus. You can't negotiate. Look at this guy getting worked. Well, I mean, the least who I'm paying market rate on guys forever. Like go back three, four GMs and look at the Funf deal, right? Like, look at the Kessel deal. They had to eat some of that when they moved into Pittsburgh.
Starting point is 01:24:01 Like, it's not a place people are taking discounts unless they want to come back to Toronto as a role player. And they've had star players that are in that echelon of. being paid like those guys too. So bad problem to have, maybe. I don't know. That's a good point, Dean. More than around, but for sure, I think that's when you,
Starting point is 01:24:22 when you have really good players, you've got to pay them sometimes. It would be better than the opposite. Like paying guys and our stars or not a few stars to pay. Right. Yeah, yeah. Both of those things would be worse. That would stink for sure. Yeah, you wouldn't want that.
Starting point is 01:24:37 Not at all. Let's move to tonight's slate, NHL. We got some good matchups, A rematch of the 94 Stanley Cup, I'm sure you remember vividly, rat. I do. I do. Got screwed by the schedule maker in New York.
Starting point is 01:24:51 Hockey was on the cover of S.I. Hockey's cool. The NBA's not. That's a while ago. Transylvania, Dean. That's right, yeah. The Norm Green sweepstakes, the former, that's the old relocation battle.
Starting point is 01:25:07 Minnesota went to Dallas. North Stars became Stars. Wild expansion team. I'm sure that's still hot. Oh, they'll be wound up in St. Paul in Minneapolis. tonight. And maybe a Stanley Cup pre of your Bruins and Avs pretty damn good, both those teams. There you go. Good job by the schedule maker.
Starting point is 01:25:20 Yeah, very nice. Good slate there. Yeah. Well done. Good job, Gary. We showed you the carnage from the Junior Sabres game. We probably don't need to go there again. Thank you, Rhett for that little tidbit. Really made the show. I know. I've seen a lot of hockey, Rhett, but that's the worst display I've ever seen in my life. I'll have to take some course of stuff out of control.
Starting point is 01:25:44 control kids and be better. I know, I know. Wild card weekend is settled. Here is the slate for next week. How good does this look? There used to be four games on Wildcard weekend on two days.
Starting point is 01:26:01 Now we have six games over three days and it is magic. It is bliss. It is euphoria. It is six days away. This is beautiful stuff. Saturday, we start with Cleveland at Houston. Then we have Miami at Kansas City. Miami, by the way, one win this year against a 500 team or better. That is it. Incredible.
Starting point is 01:26:22 Pittsburgh do make the playoffs. Jack, somehow that horseshoe Talman's got rammed up his hoop hasn't fallen yet. They go to Buffalo to see Rent and Company. You'll be back in time for that, right? Your flight comes back from Arizona on Saturday, right? Oh, I'll be plenty of time. Yeah, you'll be hydrated and ready to go. What, the big tree with Bruce Smith? That's the plan? Yeah, I'm not sure what's all going to tell. But it's going to be one hell of party. I don't know how I'm going to haul Jack around and it's black and yellow, but. Just cover him on mustard. They'll think he's one of those guys, the mustard guy.
Starting point is 01:26:57 They won't even know. And it fits your colors, Jack. That's true. Yeah. Jack, are you allergic to mustard or can we get you all loaded up? Load me up. Yeah, baby. Love it.
Starting point is 01:27:10 Green Bay does make the playoffs with Jordan Love. Wow, I think something about the youngest team making the playoffs in recent memory. Good for them. They do it with like a 40 million cap hit on Aaron Rogers not being there. Good stuff. Love this one. Matt Stafford and the Rams going to Detroit, who played Sam Leporta when they were battling for a two versus a three seed.
Starting point is 01:27:32 He hyper-extended his knee, status very much up in the air for this weekend. What do you do I'm playing Leporta? Well, they kind of, they lost last week and old Dan had to, Got to get ready, man. We're playing our guys, man. Well, man, the best tight-ended football just got hurt, man. Because you're being dumb, man. And then the Monday nighter, how low can you go Philadelphia Eagles?
Starting point is 01:27:58 Could you lose to Tampa? God, they stink. I think you could. They stink. And AJ Brown got hurt and Hertz has got a bad finger. And they stink. What happened? 11 and 1 to this.
Starting point is 01:28:16 Gross. That could be an awful, awful football game to watch. Because Tampa Bay stinks. I'll give him credit for this. Baker Mayfield's been a lot better than anyone ever would have imagined. And he throws a nice deep ball. He battles is good. But other than that, I really don't think there's a lot to get excited about it.
Starting point is 01:28:36 It's not like it's playoff football. Let's not beat it up too bad. I know. I'm not beating it up. Give it a chance. When, when you think, about wild card. It's just that one, unfortunately, for a
Starting point is 01:28:47 playoff game, has a potential to be a stinker, which is too bad, but maybe I'm wrong. I'd love you to be wrong. That's a Monday nighter. Okay. We go from there to, well, you remember the CFL? They didn't know how to do a bracket. The NFL's trying here, but
Starting point is 01:29:05 what the fuck is going on? We're going to meet for lunch, and then you're going to go that way. That way. And so are you going to After right. When did brackets get hard? Brackets are easy. Fellows. Can we zoom out again, Jack?
Starting point is 01:29:21 This is just, there's a line on the outside. There's no line there. There's a line again. What are we doing here? What are we doing? So that was what they put out on NFL social media early yesterday. By this morning,
Starting point is 01:29:37 they'd found a better version. This is unbelievable. Honestly, my kid ate. There you. See, this is better. Okay. that's at least a start. That's what we're looking at.
Starting point is 01:29:47 Thank you very much. No, that's SportsNet. So even a non-rights holder got it better than the league itself. And then I think the NFL is another one today. That's weird. Brackets have been really a thing for me this year. I don't know how or why, but it shouldn't be hard. I think formatically that one works better than the last one.
Starting point is 01:30:05 That makes sense. Yeah. They're not crisscrossing in the middle and swing your partner, docee, do you go north, I go south. But there is some horseshit in there as well. There's no question about it. Okay. Next item.
Starting point is 01:30:18 What have we got? What have we got? Jack hit me. Friggin' Jack. Here are the bills. Arriving home to Buffalo. We hours, I'm sure. Looks dark and cold, Rhett.
Starting point is 01:30:34 Just sound up and let's listen. This is them getting off the plane from Miami, returning back to Buffalo, a playoff team, and the winners of the AFCS East, never in doubt, right? There seems to be some noise in the back. God, Dean. There's QB1. Holy.
Starting point is 01:31:00 Well, it's probably just like 30 people right there. It's windy. It's windy out. Legs are going. Are you not going to go say hi to those people? And you're like, yeah, those 30 people, they, they went out, no, there's thousands. He can't. That fence is there for his safety.
Starting point is 01:31:18 T-shirt weather. They're still lined up. Look at this. It keeps going. Wow. You can't go. up to the chain link and just kind of say hi you got your hand along it. We don't want it.
Starting point is 01:31:42 No, just it's fine. There's a lot of viruses out there. There's illnesses. You're going to cut his finger on the chain link. No. You just stay healthy. It's bad karma. So the bills are in.
Starting point is 01:31:56 The bills are at home. They play Sunday. Get your tickets. But what about the dolphins? Man, they were close. It looked like they had that division wrapped up. Well, someone was asking Dolphins fans, man, like, what would you do to have the dolphins win a Super Bowl? Some great answers here.
Starting point is 01:32:15 All right. So what's the craziest thing you guys would do for the Dolphins to win a Super Bowl this season? The whole team, baby! Mom! Mom, put down the white claw. Jesus. Love it. She likes quarterbacks, Rhett.
Starting point is 01:32:34 team player. Schaepler was making comments about the quarterback last night. I had to straighten her out. Seventh Lowe. She watched the first half or the second half? Because I can see the comments changing. I heard you guys ask talk of my team there a little bit to start. What difference does it make if you throws a interception in the end zone at that point?
Starting point is 01:32:59 It's just better than turning the ball over. Saved them 15 years. I think the first series, they got the ball in like the 14. It's basically a punt. I'm with you. It's just you don't like turning over the ball. You've said as much a lot this year. A couple turnovers, but they moved the,
Starting point is 01:33:12 they marched the ball down the field every time they got it. Like, don't forget about that. Who are, which quarterback are they taken in the first round this year? Have you gone with, have you looked that deep into the quarterback class? Is there going to be picked pretty late in the first year? If he throws five picks on Sunday,
Starting point is 01:33:31 they might not off the table. It's not. Yeah. there's been some twist and turns no one saw coming this year that that could be the last one for the bills who knows who sorry i don't have to interrupt you just who thought they were going to blow it too two minutes left don't get the first down like it was written and i was like oh they're going to eff this up always yeah yeah i left after the kick return to go flood the rink and it was like this is very billsy they make you believe one thing and then they completely
Starting point is 01:34:03 change your mind minutes later. It's impressive work. Yeah. It's the option and the opportunity is always there. Never turn it off. No. There's a chance. But Tua said, you know what? Watch this. Watch this, Josh Allen. I'm, I can do it too. I can throw a bad ball. That's an easy interception to cost us the game. Hold my beer. A couple items. Tiger Woods is part of ways with Nike. I don't know if you saw this. That's a 27-year relationship that's officially coming to an end today with the Tiger posting on social media. Rett's debts, a reoccurring segment. I have paid out the winner, Dean, $1,000 for our fantasy league.
Starting point is 01:34:44 Andrew McBride has scooped up the regular season and second place money. And ret now owes me $100. And what was that term for the juice running like a mobster? What do you call that? The fig. The fig. Vig. The Vig.
Starting point is 01:34:57 Go watch. Vimviger. A mobster. Good shows or soprano. I just watched Casino. I didn't see Vig on Casino. Maybe it was. Phoenix, 100 US, we'll call it even.
Starting point is 01:35:11 Told you. Bring you the money to Phoenix. Fine. Perfect. Love it. From Rett's debts, we go to Boomer's Hoopers. Dean, can you walk us through this NBA highlight from the weekend? Sure.
Starting point is 01:35:25 So we're in. This is LBJ. There's LeBron with the one. The one hand, Slamma Jama. Who was that Dean's sir? You just cut out there. LeBron James with the one-handed, that's a rim rocker right there. And you can see the team is excited about it.
Starting point is 01:35:45 And there's Luke Longley. Very good. The oldest player in the league right there. LeBron still brings it, man. Yeah. Yeah, we can just sit back. be amazed and admire the greatness that is LeBron James.
Starting point is 01:36:06 If you think Booms excited about NBA, you haven't seen him on the promotional reels for WWE's LA Knight. That is a smiling Mulberg, folks. Print it. Put it on your wall. Awesome. L.A. Knight.
Starting point is 01:36:27 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yep. Fatal 4-way on the way, man. Give us more. Royal Rumble, fatal four-way, Roman Rains. When's that?
Starting point is 01:36:41 Either early Feb? It's coming up, but. That's the one you're going to, or? No, no, that's, we're going to WrestleMania. That's the big. Well, maybe we should have a watch party. Royal Rumble was one of my favorites. I remember when it started back in the day.
Starting point is 01:36:59 It's changed a little bit, but, uh, What about King of the Ring? Where does that come in on your power rankings? I don't even think they do King of the Ring anymore. I'm not even sure. It's kind of money in the bank and they've got the elimination chamber. They're going to Toronto for like three shows in a row. Yes, they are.
Starting point is 01:37:17 They do a what? They do a Smackdown and Raw on either on either end. Which one is that? Is that money in the bank? That's the money in the bank weekend. Yes. This has been proven. The money in the bank.
Starting point is 01:37:29 Update. Yeah. money in the bank because if you win money in the bank, then you get the, uh, the briefcase and that's good for a championship match at any point. At any point. Yeah. So you can come out. You can come out during a match at the end of a match.
Starting point is 01:37:43 You hand the briefcase over to the referee. Oh. And then you're in. So you got to catch a guy when he's tired. That's the movie. That's right. That's exactly right, Ryan. Right.
Starting point is 01:37:52 What about the rock? He was talking? Is he in that four way or no? Oh, he's not in, but he has caused a real stir out of the table. W.W.E. Universe. Yeah. Okay. All right. Thanks, Dean. Appreciate that. That's really good. Yeah. Anytime. Finally, last three items, dumb shit. Don't be posing for a photo in the middle of a ski run,
Starting point is 01:38:14 Rhett. We told you time and time again. Yeah, there's some bad skiers out there. Oh, boy. What? Not ideal. Listen to it. I love it. Neither guy is. really happy. Oh. Oh. How about the guy's shooting, not letting his buddy know.
Starting point is 01:38:46 And how about camera guy? Camera guy. This is not AI. I think this is real. And you know what? To be fair with the fact, camera guy, you can hardly see him coming.
Starting point is 01:38:56 He's right behind old yellow jersey there. You know what? The skier finds out why you don't take photos on this. That is true. Yeah, don't do it. Let's go stand right in the middle of the... He got what he deserved. It's probably for the best.
Starting point is 01:39:11 Idiot. So, sometimes we have technical difficulties. It just happens. And we saw it with Rhett today. We saw it with Boom today. Jackson A1 down here in the Mardalup Nerva Center. But there were some technical difficulties in San Diego when an 18-minute firework show lasted 30 seconds. At some point, it's like...
Starting point is 01:40:00 less wow and more like, should we leave? Like, this is getting apocalyptic. He did find the threshold there. I can't decide which one I like the most. Yeah. That's like Friday night at the Pinder household. It's supposed to be 18-minute show and it's done in about 30 seconds. 25, it says, Dean.
Starting point is 01:40:21 Or whatever, yeah. I thought it would have lasted longer. And if you thought that was bad, you missed out on a bass pro show. shops, swimming events in Alabama. Oh, this is great. There's security walking upstairs here, no police. There's a man that's jumped in the massive fish tank.
Starting point is 01:40:50 He's running around. He's naked, guys. It's not a seal? It's not just a seal. Hair, ass naked. Or, port. back in, yeah, so why not? Yeah, why not?
Starting point is 01:41:07 It's not a bad dive. It's a swan dive, yeah? And then a red eagle right on the glass. Thanks, Paul. Great stuff, yeah. The, uh, sadly this is lasting more than 25 seconds. This is a tough go at the old Bass Pro shops.
Starting point is 01:41:29 I don't suppose Bass Pro puts a lot of, oh, Conkeville. Did you hit your head? Yeah, and then he's getting he's a little defiant here, Dean. He looks like he's out now, but he's got some fight left in him, rats. Let's see, there's not a lot of fun days if you're in the, one of those first responders. This is a tough one. You're not going to get over this one for a while.
Starting point is 01:42:01 Oh, boy. naked face down concussed on the floor of a bass pro shop right outside the old pool there and they're just dragging his ass like he's a mahi mahi bringing him on the boat
Starting point is 01:42:15 I mean a mahi mahi he's better behave than that and to be fair there's probably one in the tank it didn't jump out and concuss itself that's his fault yeah let's get him a towel yeah let's wrap him up here a little bit this guy's naked rack please just cover that up thank you
Starting point is 01:42:31 us 20 bucks, by the way. Ah. Oh. It would have been great if he to hit him with the taser. On anything. He hit him with the taser. Be like, no, he was resisting. He was trying to get away.
Starting point is 01:42:44 Yeah. I don't know what bath salts is. That guy looked like he was on bath salts. Yeah. And I'm guessing Bass Pro, you don't put chlorine or any kind of disinfected. It's for the fish, right? So there's probably some real. yummy stuff in there.
Starting point is 01:43:04 Hopefully it didn't, some parasite didn't crawl up his wiener. You know, now he's in real bad shape. Jack's got a terrible personal tie into the Bass Pro Shop. Jack, what were you saying earlier, but? Oh, yeah. It's my dad lives in Birmingham and we, when I visit there, we went to that
Starting point is 01:43:20 mall. That mall. Yeah. Where that Bass Pro Shop was. So is that you? No, that is not me. Is that old footage? Do we know when this took place? Work on your grooming. Jack. Once it's on the internet, it's saying it's a lot of operation.
Starting point is 01:43:35 It's out there. It lasts forever, right? Careful, man. All right. A sad note, former stampeter, Burkdale's has passed away. And I don't know if either you guys had met him, but a beloved teammate passed away in his 40s,
Starting point is 01:43:55 the former stampede. Just wanted to mention that for the end of the Pind Report. I think Ian Busby noted that on Twitter over the weekends. Tough stuff for a guy that was beloved by his teammates. Yeah, Was he 44? It was out, you know, again, I guess the older I get, it was not that long ago that he was on the stampeters.
Starting point is 01:44:11 He, Sandra DeAngelis were the kicking tandem, and he was part of some very good stampeder teams here. So real sad to see that happen. So condolences to Stampeter family and, of course, Burk Dale's family. Indeed, that is it, fellas. That's a wild weekend in a Pinder Report for Villichonda. New in-stock inventory arriving daily.
Starting point is 01:44:33 It's on the ground. it's ready for you start your automotive adventures at village honda new vehicle pricing is msrp and of course they are part of the wood automoto group and if there's something that you're you're kind of whether it's options color brand talk to them they'll look inside that dealership group and probably find it just what it is that you're looking for they're worth the trip they're in the northwest automobile your dealership for life village honda uh you know what i have something here it's going to be a little bit of uh of an i dig it for you a little bit of a finning i did it I saw this, I guess it was yesterday, although I got to admit, it's from the weekend anyway.
Starting point is 01:45:10 And Spencer Carberry, he is the head coach now of the Washington Capitals, correct? Washington, yes. They started the year. Not, I mean, it was a bit of a sluggish start, but they have, they've turned things around nicely. They are, I believe they're in a playoff spot as we look this morning. Now a lot of hockey be played. Either way, the Capitals have turned things around and have had a nice little run going. You could have asked me and I wouldn't have been able to tell you, which doesn't mean
Starting point is 01:45:38 Max Patcheretti, where does he play? Okay, well, geez, he was Montreal, then to Vegas and then Carolina, but he had been hurt. He'd missed a great deal of time due to injury. He's a member of the Washington Capitals and got into his first game in almost two seasons, year and a half. It's been a lot of rehabbing. Was it Achilles? I'm trying to think. Achilles or ACL, one of the two I was confused. I think it was a killing.
Starting point is 01:46:07 Within a week of returning with the hurricanes last year, he was hurt again. Long-term injury to long-term injury. Let's go inside the locker room here as the head coach after their win on the weekend. One more first. I think we got another first here. Max Patiretti. That was a rough two years for me, boys. And if I learned one thing, it's not to take things for granted.
Starting point is 01:46:41 And we, that game crew, we have a special group in here. Let's make sure we never take that feeling for granted. Pretty cool. An emotional Max Paturedi. I've said this before. It's got to be a, to be rehabbing injuries. And Rhett, you've been on that team. You would have had injuries.
Starting point is 01:47:03 A lot of times. you're segregated from the team. You come in and you do your rehab work, if at all at the rink and then you're gone. You don't come by for games. You feel so disconnected. Plus, how much fun can it be rehabbing? And for a guy like Patcher Eddie, he's not old,
Starting point is 01:47:19 but there has to be some in the back of his mind. Am I going to come back from this? If I get back, am I still going to be an effective NHL or is this it? So it was kind of neat to see, at least for, you know, at least for one night, but pretty cool to see him get back in there
Starting point is 01:47:34 and feel like it was all worth it for him to get to put all that work in. Emotion. A long, long time to be working to get back. That's a new team too, isn't it? Like he was, he got hurt in Carolina,
Starting point is 01:47:45 right? And then you join a new team and you have, you just want to get in the room and play a game. So you feel part of it. So good on them. And you get through that, you got to feel like get through that first game. Okay.
Starting point is 01:47:57 Well, it's just kind of baby steps, do this thing. Finning cat. That's I dig it for finning. Finning Canada, your local dealer for cat equipment built to handle work in Western Canada. For heavy equipment for the job site, visit the cat rental store, knowledgeable staff, you get what you need. Buy parts, rent tools, power solutions.
Starting point is 01:48:18 Visit finning.com for a location near you. Finning cat, cat a proud partner of the NHL. That's already 35 fellas. There was a very real chance he didn't make that return. Yeah. That's nice. Awesome. Start the show with that ugly incident with the Buffalo Junior Sabres.
Starting point is 01:48:42 A real smear on the sport of hockey, a black stain on the sport. Now we kind of bring things back around and a little feel good story from the National Hockey League. You know, it's like this. It's a little of this. Balance. We did the Betway bets going back to, I guess it was Friday. Football picks will move along. We'll have some new slated games.
Starting point is 01:49:06 That's right. Yeah. I don't know that way. This is the time. If you haven't got your Betway app yet, then it's playoff time, wild card weekend. Let's go.
Starting point is 01:49:17 Oh, there's not as many games. That's fine. The games mean more. You have in game. Oh, I've missed kickoff. It doesn't matter. Get on the app.
Starting point is 01:49:25 Play along. This is what bet. This is what it's all about. Bet the responsible way with Betway, the official gaming partner of Barnburner. Let's take a look at our prognostication. Jack called me a dumb ass. said are you stupid he said are you
Starting point is 01:49:39 balsamomass baltimore plus three i liked it didn't like it for long Detroit does cover the three and a half and Philadelphia i'm done with the eagles they have done you're done we're all done with them they have uh it's been a quite a rogering i've taken by taking the eagles the last month uh so i go one for three a tough tough end to the regular season but uh playoffs is when it matters It's not about the regular season. I'm saving my best for wild card weekend. Still over 500.
Starting point is 01:50:13 Dean, don't be upset. That's moneymaker. Yeah, okay. I really like Jacksonville to soil themselves. They did. Everything else I really liked that was wrong.
Starting point is 01:50:22 I thought Baltimore's backups were going to be better than Mason Rudolph. They were for a bit, but not when it mattered. And we thought Belichick would leave on a winning note. Maybe he ain't leaving because that's not a winning note. That game was unwatchable. Wasn't going to leave. That was bad.
Starting point is 01:50:40 Yeah, it's too bad teams. Oh, what's this? Oh, Jesus, not again. What's this? You've done well by taking the same teams. They have really taken care of you. Buffalo, because you like Buffalo. So even throwing a week where I didn't even put picks in.
Starting point is 01:51:01 Yeah. You flushed money two weeks ago. You still lead the way. It's incredible stuff. Oh, huh. Three and all. And you took Pittsburgh for your buddy Jack. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:51:13 You support your fellow teammates. Jack wants to come to Buffalo. I want the Steelers to come to Buffalo. I want Jack to come to. It's where it's glorious right now. How's your weekend shaping up, Jack? Well, we got the Flames game Saturday night. Yeah, we'll get RG to cover that for you or you can catch an early flight.
Starting point is 01:51:33 Yeah, we're just got a busy day. I just going to be in Phoenix with us. That's not going to work. Right. Yeah, sorry about that, Jack. Maybe next year. Can we get you out to Buffalo? Like, can you go?
Starting point is 01:51:46 Maybe. What time's that game? 8 o'clock Saturday night. Oh. And then the bills games at 11. You got on the first flight. If you take a red eye to Toronto, you could do it. That's the only way it happens.
Starting point is 01:52:01 Get all boozed up at the airport. If Afterburn is the only thing standing in your way to have going to Buffalo to watch the Steelers and the playoffs, then we can make something happen, I mean, aside from accommodation and tickets and transportation and, hey, listen,
Starting point is 01:52:16 when Rhett says he's got, got you taken care of, you never worry. He'll take care of you. Unless his technical difficulties or loses passport on the wrong side of the border. Yeah,
Starting point is 01:52:28 unless I'm in Vegas with you guys after a road trip to Phoenix. I mean, whoop, let's go. Yep. Wild card weekend in Vegas.
Starting point is 01:52:37 Vegas. Just sit at the sports. Do we're safe. To swim. Pools, bikinis, sports betting, big TVs. What's having folks? Well, congrats on the... I let you down here.
Starting point is 01:52:49 Congrats. Oh. He was a good friend of you? I know. But I had to do it. You didn't, but... You know, I'll give you this. You've really battled back.
Starting point is 01:53:02 He has. Over 500 some. That's impressive. Yes. I'm stunned to see that. because you're an idiot. Oh. So are you on the Steelers now for our weekly temperature check on Pittsburgh Steelers?
Starting point is 01:53:19 Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. The Steelers. In Buffalo. What's the spread? Like nine? I'm looking at it right now. The,
Starting point is 01:53:26 that is the money line. I need the point spread. Come on now. Are you kidding me? You're going to worry about the point spread? You're going to, that's what you're concerned with as a, as a Steelers fan.
Starting point is 01:53:39 That's what you. It's a lot. It's getting bigger. 10 points, Jack. You taking the 10? You got it. Easily. Would you take them straight up?
Starting point is 01:53:49 What do you need? Right. What's the weather there? Oh. It's always nice in Buffalo in general. You saw Josh in his t-shirt last night, landing at 3 in the morning. It's fine. It's like San Diego.
Starting point is 01:54:02 It's the same every day. I think they actually said it's going to be quite cold, but warmer here than somewhere else. So it's not the coldest. It's not the cold. Yeah, I think Kansas is supposed to be super cold. Yeah. I want a cold, cold, Pittsburgh style football.
Starting point is 01:54:20 That's totally true. Plus 400, by the way, the money line for the Steelers. You know, turn 100 to 500, bet on the Steelers this week and hope they win. Not saying I'm doing it, but Jacko, you're the Steelers guy.
Starting point is 01:54:33 I will say this, though, Jack, if you go to Buffalo and you go with Rett to the game, if things go poorly for the bills, you're going to be on your own. Because he will ghost and leave you high and dry. Yeah, he'll be gone to the third quarter. You've heard he beats the traffic and all that sort of. You'll be,
Starting point is 01:54:55 oh, did you have to go to the bathroom? I wonder where he is. You'll be waiting a long time for him to come back for you. Rett's perfected what I like to call the Ninja Smoke, which is never saying goodbye. And then like he's gone. You don't know. When did he leave?
Starting point is 01:55:07 Is he coming back? No one said goodbye. I hate sad goodbyes, Jack. I hate sad goodbye. He won't do it. It's see you later. Yeah, he won't do them. No, refuses.
Starting point is 01:55:19 Yeah. That's your Betway bets. I can't wait for this week. Let's go. It's a hell of a weekend slate there. Totally going to redeem ourselves. Browns at Texans. That one will be in the air for teens.
Starting point is 01:55:36 But Dolphins Chiefs, you'll be at home on your couch. You'll be there. Yeah. That game's got all kinds of awesomeness. Like Tyree Kill against his old squad. That's, yeah, I like that a lot. Dolphins chiefs, browns at Texans. That's the Saturdays sked.
Starting point is 01:55:55 Then Sunday, as you mentioned, Steelers at Bills the startup. Packers at Cowboys. Dallas has been unreal at home. Unreal. And then the Rams at the Lions. So good. Stafford, back to Detroit. Sunday night.
Starting point is 01:56:08 and then Monday Eagles at Box. Yeah, we'll take it. Better than no football. Yeah. Thank you NFL. Yeah. We're not going to be angry with you just because the Eagles suck, but. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:56:22 Thank you, NFL. There's seven games after this weekend. Don't take this for granted, folks. Don't do it. Seven. That's it. After this weekend is over. After Wildcard weekend, that is it.
Starting point is 01:56:33 Uh, it is, we need a very quick jasper pond hockey up. The Flames Nation slash Barn burner update for, which is now what a couple weeks away from the general manager, the president, Ryan Pinder. What's the status of the hockey team? Well, we currently have four members of the team Jasper. It's the same four we had on Friday. Sulkie pause, Mandip from BK. Beaufort Liquor, myself, RJ, who we don't know if he can skate or not or knows how to play hockey. and Jack, who was a good Bantam player, I'm told. Is that right?
Starting point is 01:57:11 Bantam, we tapped out after Bantam. I wouldn't say good, but you played Bantam. Yeah, I played hockey in the Bantam. So your parents, your parents, cut a check for you to play Bantam hockey. Were you brawling? Were you a brawler? I could use you if you could scratch. Some junior sabers out there.
Starting point is 01:57:31 I'll set the score with a stinking, Cheaton Euler Nation group. We've sent invites out to, to our boy David Murray. He's got a wrist surgery coming up. We talked to Hot Carl. Hot Carl's dealing with some issues. He's got bad leg, I think.
Starting point is 01:57:51 Tommy's in Phoenix. I got NASCO to Mosser, crickets. It's, we need Roseville in a bad way. And that Georgie Sweetlands kid, we'll take him to him. Yeah, we could make that work. Boys are off. So. Okay.
Starting point is 01:58:10 Are you going to find a nice hat to coach us in? It'll be a toque of some sort. My guess would be it'll be some warm clothing. The Wolverine did say he could play, but he nearly died. He was doing double Caesars and then onto the ice and fell in a lot. He, yeah, he had the risk reward's not worth it. No, it's not. his breakfast regimen of double Caesars really didn't lend to solid performance on the pond.
Starting point is 01:58:43 Something with the double Caesars of the JPL had his skates in every rut you could find out there. Like he couldn't take a stride. It was like he was trying to go on gravel. It was not good. Jared, would you like some toast or something with your double Caesar? No. Oh, okay. All the olives and asparagus.
Starting point is 01:59:01 Okay. Yeah, that's whatever. whatever you want to do then. It is January 19th, the 21st, the Jasper Pond Hockey Tournament. Tourism Jasper, taking care of us as always, and of course, presented by Booster Juice on board this year. Fueled by Booster Juice. Download the new Booster Rewards app today to start earning berry points for delicious and nutritious smoothies, drinks, and food that'll get you through the day. For more information on the tournament itself, go to CHE hockey. dot com, but a big thanks and a big shout out to booster juice getting it going for us for the big
Starting point is 01:59:40 pawn hockey tournament coming up in a couple weeks. It's a little fuel pregame before we hit the double seizures by the fireplace. Now somebody had sent in a resume of sorts, kind of their, um, got some interest. I just, I'm a little leery to hear about things in email form. I think we should, I've been working on the rink here in Mardaloup, got all the snow off last We're going to brush it and flood again today. We were working on some of the holes at the north end. We need to get people on the ice here.
Starting point is 02:00:09 I'm not just going to take your word for it that you're good in the room. A, we're not in a room. We're on a pond. And B, we need to know you can play. What's just going to say? Why don't you get to some of the ODRs there, Pender and take a note pad and start do some scouting like any good GM would do? I've been scouting.
Starting point is 02:00:26 It's, uh, it's, uh, it's, we're, we're, it's like the Minnesota wild. We got a lot of guys on IR. Hmm. Are you sure you've been scouting? Because it feels like, I don't know if you're not a lot of progress. I went to the rink with a six-pack old Milwaukee at like 11 last night. I didn't get home to one. I mean, I've been scouting heavily.
Starting point is 02:00:44 So would you guys, would you hold like a walk-on kind of a thing? You know, the stampeters or football teams, they'll have one day where you can come out to the stadium and try out. If we get enough solid sounding candidates, I will happily run people through their paces. but not far from the studio here, but five blocks. Great content. Yeah. I will, I will come and watch.
Starting point is 02:01:09 Yeah. I would love to see the dog. You got to be there. You're the coach. You got to know what's going on. Hey, listen, I'm just the coach. I coach the team that's given to me, right?
Starting point is 02:01:19 I, uh, I would invite, uh, Siroca, but I just, he's going to the socks. I want him healthy when he gets to Chicago.
Starting point is 02:01:26 I can't have the Wolverine running into them all hammered up. No. I feel like there, there's got to be someone. There's got to be, we're missing. something like you want a kid fresh like out of college or something a couple of those guys oh yeah yeah just zipping it someone in the transfer portal they just trying to keep the
Starting point is 02:01:42 ammo there well we had some resumes coming in here we are so um let's have a read here the pros of this guy's game great drinker uh can take in an ungodly amount of booze and stay standing may blackout every night but will be involved water bottle 50 50 ginger rum that's good drink mind that ginger rye actually well preferred but spice rum you know that's nice Great in the room, Dean. That's, again, helpful, but we are outdoors. Can handle a joint 10 beers in. That's not easy.
Starting point is 02:02:15 Brings joints. That's another pro. It says your average hockey player. That's listed as a pro, by the way. I'm not sure that's what we're looking for. The pro? Yeah, wait. And the cons, average arm length and height.
Starting point is 02:02:29 So not Warner Neanderthal torso. If you're going to be an average hockey player, you're going to have a long reach. Do we have this best name, Jack? Like how many joints are we talking? It's plural, and that's more than we need. Too many. Too many, Trev.
Starting point is 02:02:47 I'm more apt to hit the booster juice than the, than a hoot before the game, personally, but two to each their own. Yeah. Name is Daymond. No. Damond. Damon. Damond.
Starting point is 02:02:59 Jarrod. Jarrad. So if you're better than Jarrod and Damond, send us a resident. to me. And if we get enough guys that know how they can skate forwards and backwards and aren't inclined to hammer joints after 10 beers,
Starting point is 02:03:12 we'll get you up for skate. Friggin Jack, spelling and pronunciation, really not his strong point. Hey, it's a second language, I believe. Isn't that right, Jack? Damon. Damon. Demon.
Starting point is 02:03:29 DeMond. I demand a refund on this show. So, yeah, If you can beat that, you've got a better chance than demand. What's a, if people were going to send in a resume or even a tape. Yeah. If you have some footage, send it to us. Hey, hey, Jake, what's the best place for people to send either an email or some video for it?
Starting point is 02:03:53 Yeah, Jayak at PlayStation does. What's, what's, should we send it to the ask credit account? That's usually a nice collecting area for mail. Ask credit Flamesnation.ca. No? Yeah. Sure. He's not responding.
Starting point is 02:04:11 I don't want. I don't want. Yeah, he's, he's all quiet now. How about just Jack at Flamesnation. That'll work, hey, Jack? Yep. That's it.
Starting point is 02:04:19 All right. Send your resumes, your video. Jack, I don't want a written AI bullshit resume. Send in some video. We've got to see what we're getting here. Yeah, we're on the social. We're on the socials.
Starting point is 02:04:31 You can find us on the X, on the Twitter, on the Instagrams. Jack's probably on the TikToks. Boob's probably on the Facebooks. If you're an oiler fan, we don't, nothing. No. Don't bother. No, go, go.
Starting point is 02:04:44 We'll know. We'll know. Hey, Ryan, what's on the menu for DoorDash tonight? Well, I mean, it's good news, bad news, Dean. I hate to do this to you. We don't have Monday night football tonight. I know. Not televised in Canada, I believe.
Starting point is 02:05:02 Something weird about that. Shame. So we're going to have to get you to settle in for a battle of Pennsylvania. Five o'clock start. Flyers hosting penguins. Penguins the visitor. Flyers in a playoff spot. Penguins favored.
Starting point is 02:05:18 They hate the penguins in Philadelphia. Do they ever? That might not be the best game, but that could be rowdy. And the best game absolutely should be Boston, Colorado, two cup contenders going head to head. That's a seven o'clock start from the mile high city. high like altitude, not high like a joint after 10 beers. Right.
Starting point is 02:05:39 Like DeMond. Demand. Yeah. That's DoorDash. And what's on the menu? Ordering is easy. Just open the DoorDash app. Choose what you want from where you want.
Starting point is 02:05:50 It'll be left safely outside your door. And for a limited time, our listeners and viewers get 25% off and zero delivery fees on their first order of $15 or more. When you download the DoorDash app and enter promo code Nation 25, that's Nation 25. That's Nation 25. to trigger that deal. Limited time only. Dash that for the win with DoorDash. Whoop.
Starting point is 02:06:10 Whoop. Indeed. Well, congrats to Eric and the other guy, Lucas, who are coming to Phoenix with us on Thursday. Thank you, Oodle Noodle for jumping on there. Try the Ouddle Noodle. You will not be disappointed. That might be my next stop.
Starting point is 02:06:26 That's right where I'm going. Oh, yeah. Dude, it's so good. So good. Spring rolls. Spring rolls. tomorrow on the program Tuesday it's game day helmets
Starting point is 02:06:36 Ottawa senators oh special special old friend Jamie McClend and Nudles speaking of Oudle Noodle the Nudes Nudles he's going to be in studio attention early start tomorrow
Starting point is 02:06:52 9.30 a.m. We will start the program please gentlemen 9.30 a.m. We'll start the program because Nudles has got to get to game day skate flames and sins. He's going to do a little chit chat with the flames brass, and then also wants to watch the Sends and see what's up with them.
Starting point is 02:07:08 If you think the flames are having a tough year, imagine me in a Sends fan. You thought this was all turning around this year, hey? Next year. And so they said last year. But are they screwing it up the right way, at least? They look like, or do they have a first rounder? I don't even know.
Starting point is 02:07:22 But if they do, it should be pretty high again. I think they do. Yeah. Check. No, they have not. They didn't they, Chick-Dockering? And then they, maybe, yeah, maybe. They did try to brink it, but I don't know.
Starting point is 02:07:35 It's not going great. Yeah, either way. And they got the gambling guy, Pinto, he's not back yet. He's close. Yeah, double down Pinto. So that's tomorrow. The, uh, the big flame senators game you've all been waiting for. It's a brouh.
Starting point is 02:07:51 Flams are pumped to get back for that one game. Yeah. The one game homestands is always one of your favorites because not only is it the first game back of the homestands, it's the last game of it. a homestand. Yeah. I like Millen on the broadcast. He's brought it up about once a period.
Starting point is 02:08:05 I don't know what the fuck they're doing with the scheduling, but that's a guys are fucking idiots with the leg. I mean, you come home for one game. You'd like to be able to play a few of games, but no, they got to send them back out in the goddamn rope. God of Greg.
Starting point is 02:08:17 Greg hates. Greg hates the schedule and the schedule makers. Could you find yourself a side of gravy, Greg? Just calm, calm. Oh, I'll be. Well,
Starting point is 02:08:29 I, uh, would you share the email that you get from whoever suspends you? Yes, please. Can we see that? I'll have to find the email. I'm not good with email, but I'll try. I feel like it's got to be worth more than a game for that.
Starting point is 02:08:46 That feels more. 14 year olds brought line brawl. It's the worst. And a real line bro. Like an actual line bro. Yeah, yeah. Who was the kid hit in reverse there? Like Terry?
Starting point is 02:08:58 he's young cage he's a speedster hell of you're gonna have to talk to nice yeah that's not a look his backward skating looks on point the brug it on watch me cross over that's a bad combo well he just knocked the guy down he didn't want to have to do it again had his way with that old badard tom wolf's there yeah what's what's old 93 doing he's trying to pull his own player out of the pile at center ice well 90 93 had already had his fight He's the guy that started it. He should be succoring the other guy. Not like he's,
Starting point is 02:09:33 he's putting his own teammate in a bad spot here. Yeah. They're young. He's dumb. Brains aren't developed. Brains aren't developed. No dumb animals. But yeah,
Starting point is 02:09:42 he'd already had his fight. He was the, he, uh, he started to chucking the knuckles first. Yeah. He's, the other guy,
Starting point is 02:09:49 he's trying to hold his own there. And he's got his freaking teammate pulling him backward. Yeah. Old Richard. Yeah. Oh, dude. Old Newton Hopkins.
Starting point is 02:09:58 there 93. What are you doing? There's Ray Bork backing up. No wonder he's so good skating back. It's all Borky. Hey, you want to go? You want to go? You want to go. Cole Connolly down there, North Mafia. Look out. Snap. A good team building, Red.
Starting point is 02:10:13 Yeah. Bonding. Nothing like a drunk for a fight. And the drunk was on Saturday night. That was because, which day was that after the game? Friday night. Friday night. I think we've probably done all we need to do today. Appreciate you. Tomorrow game day, noodles in studio, little early start game day.
Starting point is 02:10:41 Doesn't noodles come on Wednesday? Why is he coming in tomorrow? Because Wednesday travel day, buddy. Think about it. All right. All right. All right. We'll do it. What's up for the rest of the day? I got a workout, got to get zapped, build some muscle. Got kid hockey. It's not good here. We got your appeal today?
Starting point is 02:11:06 Sick kids. Sick kids and one just, one had to be picked up from school just a while back or hours ago. The third or one of the two? Yeah, it seems to be really knocking the shen. Stay away. We need you for margaritas and chips.
Starting point is 02:11:25 It's, is everyone sick in the world? No. Oh. Because it feels like everyone here is down and out. Well, poor sweetie there. Getting beat up and he was sick, poor kid. Poor kid.
Starting point is 02:11:43 And his old man is an asshole. No, I wouldn't say that, but he's a heavy booze bag. Yeah. Yeah, he's got problems for sure. Yeah, he's got problems. Deliver issues. Is he at a bad drunk? You know, that's real bad.
Starting point is 02:11:57 Oh, no, he doesn't stop smile. He's a smiley guy. Yeah. All right, everybody. Have a great. rest of your day. We'll see you tomorrow. Later, buddies.
