Aden Hill is not at a good playoffs. Even against Minnesota, it was just okay. He was kind of near the bottom and expected goals saved above expected. And stat nerd. Yeah, in the stats that match the eye. which says, geez, I remember this guy being a little better. He should have stopped that.

Yeah, like, Connor Hullabuck was on the bottom of that list in round one. Stuart Skinner, who's not net anymore. He was near the bottom of that list. He excelled it. He was closer to them than like the Captain Picard or whatever. And the others that had a good postseason. Well, Chuck. Ebbinton gets off to, you know, a significant lead.

I shouldn't say gets off to you. Like midway through, it does look over. Vegas has a lead. Oilers Stormback. And at 4-2, you're like, well, they've been doing is chasing all playoffs. Now they're up to late. Like this is,

this is over. Wasn't over. Vegas's special teams have been great. They get this thing tied. Building comes to life. We have highlights of the shit because I'd like to see it because I didn't watch it last. I'm going to take you to overtime because Vegas gets you there. And they've got all the momentum.

Vegas isn't going to go down that easy. They do have a lot of guys that have cup rings and an incredible amount of pride. They're going to make the oilers earn this thing. They don't get the call there. How don't you get that call? Like, it's not like it's behind the play. It's the only place every official's looking. We're all watching this, right?

Yes, that's correct. Is that not a play where the linesmen can go in and go, hey, you two dummies. You missed it. a game. It's uh, and look, again, the first two times I saw it, I'm like, well, he doesn't push the back and the skates don't click like me. I guess it took me, I don't know

if I was the outlier, but as soon as the stick was like, they're not drunk and they're paid to pay attention and they're fucking. Sorry, screwing it up again. Now look, there's bounces all over in hockey game. The oil is at this point already hit two posts. That's a dirty, dangerous play that the refs missed. That should be

our great Friday guest, Darren Dregger. Dregs, that was not terribly fun in Calgary last night. I'm sure in one-hour drive of Edmonton might still be up. They're quite excited about this. Really? interesting. Yeah.

Well, I mean, the waters are playing good hockey. That's pretty clear aside from their starts. You know, I mean, they're going to have to work on the come from behind scenario and stop doing that because eventually Vegas especially is going to find a way to hit their rhythm and they

really haven't done that. For me, what's most impressive and we saw it in how that game ended. You know, it's not the elite level of McDavid and Drysiddle, although that was on display in overtime. It's that they finally, you know, they finally got other pieces working. So the depth of this team has come alive.

And, you know, through much of the first half of the regular season, man, he was doom and gloom there, right? You know, we were wondering about Arvetson, going on a list of all these pieces looking at St. Louis, and geez, how good with Dylan Holloway is looking at Edmonton and Broberg and all of that. And then, you know, in the middle of the first round against L.A., that side of their game elevated.

And, you know, I think that that clearly then bolstered the stars. And now they've got some swagger. And so it doesn't even matter, really, does it? Who's in goal? Calpecker just has to be good enough because... Cal's been real good. I don't think Stair was good at all. You know, and that was a good defensive battle between those two teams

through much of that hockey game. So then again, your depth, your bottom six guys start to chip away. You get a timely goal. And that appears to be enough. But Vegas can't be happy. with their overall game either, right? I mean, there are moments, yeah, Cassidy was pissed off that there wasn't an obvious penalty called on Arvetson on the can opener on McNabb. And I can understand him being hot postgame because that's a penalty.

That's dangerous. Dangerous, right? So, but they've got a bottle that and find a different path. But, you know, McNabb is out and out for a game or two. and I don't know that he is. I haven't got word yet from Vegas, but if he is, that's a pretty big hole in that lineup. You know, he's a decent player.

So Edmonton definitely has this team or even. Are we okay with Hill? No, no, just quickly. Sorry, before we get to the goalies. Is that a suspenseful offense or not? Because if it's a greasy play that we have, no one wants to see in the game at all, it's missed in the game,

and a player is going to be out a game or two potentially? Like, we don't know the time as you said, but if the Department of Player Safety knows McNabs out, is that suspendable or not? I don't feel like it is, but I'm going to stop myself for a moment because I'm always reminded by the Department of Player's Safety that it's not always the outcome. And in this case, it's injury.

Now, you can submit the length of injury, the type of injury into making the decision on the number of games and whether or not supplemental discipline needs to be applied, but it's always on the act. You know, did Victor Arvinson stick his stick between the legs of McNabb in a malicious manner? Well, you would argue, no. If it's anywhere on the ice, it's a tripping penalty. It's can opener.

It's age old. But where he was on the ice, man, like, it doesn't get more vulnerable than where McNabb was. It doesn't get more vulnerable. So in the spirit of that, I think you have to have that conversation and it has to be considered. But I haven't checked full disclosure. I haven't. But I feel like if it was, we'd know by now. They look at everything.

They clip everything. They debate everything in there. But I mean, we've seen some other stuff that that has gone uncalled. I mean, we saw Aaron Eklad get the two-gamer for the forearm shiver on on Hegel. But it doesn't feel like it to me, but I could, I can understand how you'd make the case for it. Yeah, I don't think it's a interesting point you make with with Eckblad because for me, I was like, I don't think they'll suspend them either because they didn't even call it a penalty. But yeah, that's, it's just a dirty, dirty play.

to see in the game it's a dirty play that personal thing you're told don't do that you got to be careful in these situations like it's the other thing is like i i would understand vaguely it's not like you take vick arvinson out of the season's like yes now we've got to do it's wrong it's a fourth line player at this point right it's not really i don't think strategy thing for me it's a it's a it's a you from the age of four whenever you step on the ace you're playing hockey you don't yeah careful going in this situation careful careful careful careful careful careful you're lucky McNebs, it's wrist and hand and not his freaking Yeah, or a wheelchair.

Sure, yeah. It could have been real bad. There's no doubt about that. And, you know, I guess in the spirit of old school hockey, you'd like to employ the eye for an eye. And that's not real anymore. And teams can't really do it. I mean, you know, the notion of that came up in the Toronto series

when, you know, Sam Bennett, you know, collided with Anthony Stollars. but you got to keep your eye on the prize, literally keep your eye on the prize. But that doesn't mean that if you can catch them or you can isolate McDavid or Nuge or any of the players for the Edmonds and Wonders, in a vulnerable spot, you finish your check and you finish it hard.

And we saw a little bit of that in game two of the Toronto series where I think it was Simone Benoit. He had Sam Bennett lined up. up in the corner and he missed them. Like, how do you miss? I don't know. Like, he almost went to the end of orders.

But that's what I'm talking about. Again, because again, we're assuming that there isn't going to be a suspension of Arbetson. So the physical game, he is one that the Vegas Golden Knights can play and have played and can play it well. So maybe they just got to raise the temperature of that series a little bit. Well, more for me than you want to get the goaltending and then we'll move to the other series.

You've got to find a way to channel your emotion or target better because that was, that was vicious. That was vicious. So again, I haven't heard anything from the Department of Employer's Safety. can play better. And if Hill's not going to play better, it doesn't matter. Right. And if you're going to beat the Edmonton Oilers, yeah, that's the guy. Yeah. The goal tend has to be a major. Goaltending battle. Yeah. 100%. And what's glaring about that is, okay,

if it was the Oilers vaunted power play that was just stripping you and taking you apart piece by piece, okay, that's that's not always a gold tending issue you'd like to think that your goalie can elevate his playing the playoffs and still you know make a 10 beller here or there but that's not what we're dealing with here you know it's five on five hockey where and shots yeah and the one thing that we always give credit to the golden nights for you call their defense trees you know they've got a stand of trees back there so coy has the redwoods yeah i mean fine

But you got to play like that. And you cannot allow the Oilers to spend the time in the offensive zone that they've spent. But you're right. You know, at the end of the day, you know, I always used to tease noodles about this, you know, where automatically say there's a deflection from like 20 feet, right? Somebody takes a shot to the point. It goes off a stick or a skate top of the circles or even the high slot. Well, it's deflected.

Well, the goalies can't stop deflections. I mean, if it's under the bar around his ear, I get it, I guess. But that's what you're there for to be a difference maker. So I think you're on to it. I don't know what kind of conversations are having about goaltening, but I suspect that it would be more around, again, the overall defensive game and less specifically about Aden Hill. But you've got to be having that conversation if you're Vegas.

You bring up the big sequoia trees and defense for the big. White Cloud is twice wiped out for no reason. I'm just down. I'm like, what has happened to you? Like, yeah. What are you doing? Yeah.

And I actually thought he was really good in game one. Like he, you know, targeted is a dirty word, right? Because it, it suggests that you're illegally trying to take somebody out.

But that's not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is he was all over at Connor McDavid. And he actually tagged him two or three times in game. game one. I didn't see as much of that in game two. So again, I think that Vegas obviously has another physical layer rung to get to. And they better get there in a hurry. Because again, based on the balance we're seeing in Edmonton, and we just talked about Aiden Neal and gold tending in Vegas. I mean, gold tending isn't a story in Edmonton. I mean, somebody will tweet out every once in a while. Oh, geez, I wonder if Stu Skinner's going to start tomorrow. Okay. I mean, I, but that doesn't, that's not the

story. The story is how balanced this team is and how in tune they are defensively across the board. I actually thought Vegas was considerably a better team last night and I didn't expect it to be that way. If you told me, Edmonton had won the game, I'd say the series is over. Even though they lost, I think there's some takeaways

from Vegas. About 14, they fought back. Evanton hasn't blown a lead this postseason. It was all how many if they had? Almost none. And so that's a nice little seated to doubt to plant if you're the Vegas Golden Knights. Aden Hill was very good at, from four two on. Now, before that, he wasn't.

He has to be the best goal in the series to win. We would have said that before the series started. Leon and Connor dead silent until overtime. I don't know that that's sustainable, especially heading to Evanston would last change, but I feel better about this being a longer series after watching last night versus if you just told me they'd lost the game.

I don't because they had the advantage, sorry, Drake. That's fine. That's fine. They had the advantage, Vegas, the advantage of matching. Yeah. Yeah. You go to Edmondson. You don't get that. Yeah. Big David didn't try to settle. Yeah. And look, this isn't a shot at Jack Eichol, but I didn't realize that he almost can't skate backwards. Now in fairness.

Potter's a stiff gear. I don't care who's there standing. Yeah, I know, I know. But I felt bad for him in the sense. And you can tell him he didn't know what to do, right? Like, I mean, he's got to try and defend. And it's easy for a stiff like me to say, all right, well, catch a piece of them. But to your point, man, you know, Perry hits him with a pass.

You know, and he is at Mach 10 going through the neutral zone, and poor Jack Eichel is just like a turnstop. He didn't know what to do. But Therangelo didn't play it well either. Like, as an ace defenseman, like a stalwart. What he's getting paid to be. He misplayed that completely. Now, I get that it's McDavid.

He probably makes you overreact. And you're like, ah, what do I do? Well, there's one thing you can do. You cannot let the pass go across. No. If McDavid beats Hill with the shot, fine yeah that out right like that then that's a very strong possibility but what i'm not going to do is allow a tap in back door because the pass gets through me right and that's what it was that's what it was

Nothing to see here. Everybody move on. Next series, your neck of the woods would be absolutely upside down right now. The Leif's actually hold a lead in the second round, and it's a 2-0 against the defending Stanley Cup champs. They are massive dogs tonight for a team up to O in a series. What have you seen from the Leafs? what's different or is this just two games in a best of seven doesn't mean anything?

No, it does mean something because I've seen a commitment to play the right way that I've never seen from this group before. And, you know, look, it starts by giving credit to the players because they're the ones at play and ultimately have to execute that game plan. But anybody that knows Craig Barubei, I mean, he demands that you practice what he preaches. And he would have instilled that game, you know, you just got to play straight line hockey. You have to forecheck.

You have to go to the net. You have to defend all those things from day one of training camp. But despite having some growing pains along the way, varying points of the regular season, nothing that was sustained. I still wondered whether or not this group had the intestinal fortitude to commit to playing that way. in the playoffs.

And, you know, how does that manifest and how do you see proof that they're willing to do that? Well, you see the proof when there's pushback and there was pushback in the Battle of Ontario against Ottawa. And I remember so the Leafs are leading the series after game five, three games to two, but they lose game five. And Burube comes out to the media.

And probably four or five times in his media availability, he kept reminding, look, we lead this series by a game. we can end this series in game six. And he obviously would have drilled that home in talking to his players after game five. They'd come out and they dispatch the Ottawa senators in six. And then if you look at game two of the Florida series, Florida was way better in game two than they were in game one. Toronto had its moments. But I wouldn't say that they had, you know, wall-to-wall pressure.

But they found a way to bounce back with a knee-lander goal and then the Mariner goal as well. So I like the fact that this team does deal with adversity a lot better than they have. Yeah, that's fair. And look, what's impressed me to be the most are doing this with Joseph Wall, who has not played a ton and has had a really missed. Second half, Stilaris has been a sneaky MVP guy for that team. And that's a huge blow and was an easy chance for the momentum to swing right back to Florida. He's not even making the trip.

Yeah, is there any update there or what's? No, I mean, the sense was this was Wednesday. and I really haven't gotten an update. I mean, they've made it clear that he didn't make the trip to Florida. So that tells he's not playing game three or game four. But the message I got on Wednesday was that it was better than they maybe even expected. He was feeling better. I mean, you go from what he experienced in game one, what we saw, him heaving over the boards into a bucket.

And the symptoms got worse initially. They didn't get better. He's released from hospital. And then the next day feels pretty good. So as long as he stays on that trend, then they're hopeful that he could be available to them in game five. But look, I mean, to go deep into the playoffs, you need two goalies. You do. You hope that it isn't necessarily injury that forces you into that.

But I guess the flip side would be sketchy play by your starter, and that's not much better. Wall got thrown into a terrible situation in game one, and he didn't respond. I mean, he wasn't very good. But they didn't have a choice. and I thought that he had a much better game. He was ready for a game two. So look, what's wrong with him going, you know what? It's my crease.

I don't, it doesn't matter to me when Anthony Stolars is healthy. He's not getting this net back. I'm not giving him the crease back. And that has to be, that has to be his mindset going into Florida tonight for game three and then obviously game four. Pickard situation. That's exactly. Yeah.

Sorry. Love your brother. This is mine now. what's the level of concern in Florida? Because that's a group that's got done a lot of winning. That's not a young green group. That's back-to-back Stanley Cup finals. They're very heavy favorites at home.

What's your Florida lens? Well, so I always use Paul Maurice as a barometer, and I know Paul very, very, very well. We go back a long, long time. And we got the vintage Paul Maurice after game one, where he's not laughing off a lot. but he's jovial. He's, you know, he's engaging with the meat.

He got a little bit sour when, you know, one of the reporters came in like 10 minutes late and asked the Bennett question for the fourth time. But he was wordy and he was willing to explain what they're feeling and what he experienced. Not the case in game too. He was a man of few words. And he subscribed to the theory less is more.

I am not giving you more than I have to. I will answer your question, but we're getting out of here because we got a lot of work to do. And some of the line of questioning was around Barbarovsky and whether or not he has concern with his level of play. And obviously he's going to defend his experience star goaltender. But I would have concern with Sergey Barbowski. I mean, like a lot of players in the Florida lineup,

he hasn't been good enough. He hasn't been good enough. I look at Matthew Kachuk, and I expect Matthew Kach to be a difference maker tonight. Just that pain in the ass Kachuk sort of approach to the, the game. We haven't seen it yet. And we know why, because he's not healthy. Like, you know, he's coming off of that serious groin injury. And I can't remember who it was, but somebody in the Leafs lineup tagged him in game one. And you could just see he kind of winced and didn't hobble,

but sort of, like, strained to get back into stride. So if he's ready for game three and game four, than, you know, you're getting from Barkov. You know, that Marsha Line, frankly, was Louis-Soranian and Lundell has been, for the most part, their top line, their best line, because Barkov has been more or less held in check by Toronto's top guys. So it starts with Kachuk for me and how he kind of drags that group into the fight. An all-time run and heater we're seeing from Miko Ranton of the Dallas Stars. Nuts.

Another hat trick, 14 points, his last four games. Like, this is unbelievable. Yeah, it is. And some of it is luck. I mean, come on. You know, just, but there's a difference in being a prolific score, an elite level skill player as he is, and then combining that with size and physical intensity.

And he's just a truck. He is a hard guy to contain move or slow. down. So, you know, if you're playing with him, obviously you just, you want to get the puck on his stick somewhere in that danger area because he's so good. And I wonder here, fellas, like, just look at the last four months here for a moment, meiko, and around him. Think about that. You know, he gets, he gets delivered to an outpost with all due respect to Carolina in January. You know, they're willing to pay him. He needs a little bit more time before he extends. And then, as we all know he pushes away, wants to go to free agency.

They engage with Dallas. They engage with Toronto and ultimately he lands in Dallas and must like Dallas because he instantly signs an extension, which was part of that deal. But I think we can all appreciate why it took him a while to get going, right? And even in the Colorado series, you know, he was more or less quiet until he seized the opportunity in a dramatic way in game seven. Now, Ferreiro talked about this on the podcast earlier this week, but he wouldn't say, he wouldn't repeat what Mika Randman said to the Colorado Avalanche bench,

as it became evident that that game was going Dallas's way near the end. But it wasn't directed at his buddies, his former teammates. It was directed to management of the Colorado Avalanche. So, man, that mojo carried into game one in a real significant way. and maybe he's just trying to prove something to himself that, look, I know I'm an elite level talent. I have to be a leader on this team. And hockey is fun again. And I'm going to prove that it wasn't just about Nate McKinnon and some of the other pieces in Colorado that helped us win that Stanley Cup.

I was a huge part of that. And I'm going to prove it here in Dallas. Yeah. If you include four nations, Dregs, it's four teams and four months. And a ton of travel, a lot of different environments, heads been spinning. And finally, he's looking like that superstar. not that you doubted it happened. You understand why, but, yeah.

I mean, he's taken over these games. He would be a front runner for the Kahn Smyth right now. Yeah, he would be. And it looks like, according to the morning skate, Morrissey and DeMello practiced and went through their regular routine. So it looks like they're the top pairing again for the Winnipeg Jets. That's a huge boost for Winnipeg, right? In every way, in every way.

I mean, when Josh is on his game, he skates, Pucks out of trouble. You know, he makes that pass. He can shoot from the point. He's so smart. All those things. The only thing, and this is what I left with in watching and following that St. Louis Blues series closely, holy cow, did St. Louis target, Josh Morrissey? I mean, they drilled him every opportunity they had.

him and Marks. What's that? Dump it in his corner. Get a piece of them. Get a piece. Well, I mean, Dallas doesn't play the same game, but they're capable of that physical element. And you know that Morrissey can't be healthy.

He's as healthy as you need to be to stay in the lineup, right? So I, and not that I'm cheering for the Winnipeg Jets, it doesn't matter to me. Well, we're going to have to hold on here a minute. I just got a note from somebody in the department. a player safety. That's incoming. So you have a look

and I'll have a look. I'll finish my thought on Morrissey. Just in the sense that I love the game of Josh Morrissey but we know he's not that big of a dude. He isn't. And I don't think it's

smart for him to put himself in a position where he has to absorb all of those hits. Like find a way to maybe not. Are you saying he's doing it? He could, he should be avoiding it. He, or is he capable of getting out of the way more? He's just taking it without. I don't know.

I, I think he is because he's such a smart hockey player. And that's just my observation. He might go, yeah, I'm not going to do that now. It's part of my game. And, I mean, he throws some heads, too. Like, he's not afraid to play the body. It's just after a tough series against St. Louis like that, that went seven, man. I just, I'd like to see him take a different path every once in a while.

Okay. So Morrissey returns. That's great news for the Jets. We saw Robertson and Scheifley return for game one. That means Miko, or sorry, Miro Haskin. Yeah. What do we know and what our expectation? Because this has been the one longest down the line.

Robertson was the last game of the year. Morrissey and Shepley round one. But we're talking like what, four nations, pre-four nations when he got hurt? I'm trying to remember. Yeah. I mean, it's been a while. There's no doubt about that. So before the series started prior to game one,

what I was told was best case on Miro would be game two and more likely game three. So I always wonder if that backs up a little bit when you steal a win like Dallas did in game one. Because again, like, you know, he's coming in cold. And that's a real difficult environment. So you can buy them a few more days than maybe that's what you do. But I haven't seen the rundown yet from the Dallas Stars. I just know that that was their thinking coming in. All right, we do with breaking news.

NHL player safety announcing that Vegas's Nicholas Waugh will have a hearing for the cross-checking on Trent Frederick. That is not the Victor Arvinson. It's not surprising and it's not Arvinson. Yeah. And that's kind of how we saw most of this this morning. Yeah. Cross check out of face.
