Starting point is 00:00:02 Oh, howdy, it's a Friday. Welcome to another edition of Barn, Burner, Ryan Pinder, Rhett Warner, producer, Jack. We are a Sands Boom Friday. Happy Hawaiian T-shirt Day to you, Ray. I could use a few more of those songs. They get me uplifted for the show. I always enjoy the intro on Friday. Gets everyone in the right mood.
Starting point is 00:00:24 There's something about Fridays. Today especially, because it's kind of chilly. God, it's cold, oh, I'm saying. Yeah. Well, is it that colder? I said this. No, we just got duped into like two weeks of plus 10.
Starting point is 00:00:35 Exactly. This is cool. My mom called me the other day and she's like, minus 40 and what? This is, that's horrendous. And the way our universe works, the coldest place on the earth is going to be Ontario for a bit.
Starting point is 00:00:48 So it's all we're going to hear from everywhere. Oh, boo. It's, it's Marner back in Toronto. It's minus 50. Center of the universe BS. But fear not,
Starting point is 00:00:57 friends. Gather round the warm fire and join us for a scintillating Friday. of sports food, nonsense, maybe a wager or two. This program presented by Bet365, whatever your bet's never ordinary with Bet365. Props, got the player stuff going on, game lines, puck line. Futures. I got a great futures bed.
Starting point is 00:01:20 Jack, how Jack for you when I sang you the futures bet? Don't say what it is. I was popped. Yeah, that's so good. It's obvious. It's so obvious. It's a slam dunk. We got to our bets later.
Starting point is 00:01:30 We made our football picks yesterday. We've got three NFL games left, period. And we got some major milestones and drama around the NHL. And Rhett, it's a Calgary Flames game day. Oh, get you go. Darn helmets on. Get your helmets on. Look at some game props for the flames and caps tonight.
Starting point is 00:01:52 Also, not just that, if you want to join the program, you want to weigh in on the flames on Mitch Marner, which is suddenly the most important thing in the world, because again, Toronto's the center of the universe. Anything you see around the NFL? Jump in on the show. Add a donation of any currency, apparently, around the world. We had a Bitcoin super chat yet?
Starting point is 00:02:14 I think that's like one of the only ones we haven't. You got like Swedish croners, euros, Aussie dollars, USD, Canadian bucks. Send us some Bitcoin. Hey, are we friends? Have you been listening to the show for one? Just one easily coin. Each one for Jack, one for me.
Starting point is 00:02:31 mean you'd be in a real pickle that one guy that bought the pizza with the bitcoin 25 years ago oh yeah but he bought how was he supposed to know that'd be worth a billion dollar so because he got to sell high right i feel worse for the dude that lost i i feel dude worse for the dude that lost the wallet in the dump over in europe yeah that one in the uk that's a big story billion dollar so i don't know if jack's heard this one apparently some guy on a flash drive has got like a bunch of Bitcoin. Like we're talking hundreds of millions of dollars, tens of millions.
Starting point is 00:03:04 And he's like, yeah, like I threw out the flash drive with some of those cleaning or something, he's got thrown in the, and he's like, we need a plan to go through the landfill of this city. And like,
Starting point is 00:03:14 I'll give you. Lots to buy it. If we can, if we can spend 10 million looking for this flash drive, we'll get it and it'll be worth way more. Can you imagine ripping through a dump for three years and never finding the drive? Just going through people's diapers.
Starting point is 00:03:28 and shit just looking for the flash drives. You better be damn sure it's in there. Oh, oh, no good. You know, sometimes you have money and you're like, gosh, that purchase wasn't greater. Man, that Breack stock, I thought it was going to the moon. There's people that have worse situations, right? That's all, it's all context.
Starting point is 00:03:50 That's right. Yeah, is it better to have that and being smart enough to realize, yeah, I'm going to. And then lose? That would be a tough. That would hurt. That would hurt. There would be a lot of emotional drama.
Starting point is 00:04:03 Maybe you've got legal course of action as well. Maybe someone threw that out from your house and you're like, hello, McLeod Law needs you here. I'm out like 50 million. Prove it. I think it's hundreds of millions. It's a lot. It's a lot.
Starting point is 00:04:19 Whatever your legal needs, got to check in with our good pals at McLeod Law. They are the studio sponsor of said show. And every day we are coming to you live from the McLeod Law Studios. Great people. excited to get together with them. We're, uh, I think a month and change out from hooking up with them. We actually have two events over the course of a couple weeks. We'll be seeing them not talking about. Don't you're saying? You're excited to see them, though? I love seeing it. All those legal matters they've helped you with, all the sleep they've saved.
Starting point is 00:04:49 You need to clear. Appreciate that. Cloud law, again, if you want more information, it's pretty simple. Go to their website, macloud dash law.com. You're not calling some 1,800 number. People asking you press this button for this language. Calgary, right here. Great people. Great what they're good at. And that's helping you if you need legal advice.
Starting point is 00:05:10 You don't need it until you need it. And then you kind of need it, chop chop. You need it. You need a bet. Now, McLeod-dashlaw.com big hello from the McLeoddlaw studios. Now let's start the show with something that made me happy. Not the the flat bleep Friday.
Starting point is 00:05:27 Not the Hawaiian t-shirts. It's all that makes me happy. But this from the Saddle Dome last night was brought to my attention. Now, the flames are off. Don't think the Hitman played. Wranglers, it wasn't per rec. But we did see a highlight from the dome last night.
Starting point is 00:05:43 What in the world is this? Look at that athlete. So that does look like the flame. And then a shootout. You almost missed the puck. No, I didn't. and you almost nailed the forest bird. God, is that good.
Starting point is 00:06:08 Reds! I was so nervous. I'm between periods. I was shaken. Like a leaf. It's funny because people would be like, oh, Rett,
Starting point is 00:06:18 like this is no big deal. You played in front of 20,000 people like, you know, 60 to 80 times a year for, you know, a decade and a half, two decades. You wouldn't be nervous.
Starting point is 00:06:28 But you were, I can tell with you because there's certain little tells. And you're like, I don't know why I'm doing this. I don't even have equipment. And I'm like, he's getting nervous. Rett's nervous about this Shorsi game.
Starting point is 00:06:39 I don't like to half ass. I don't want to be a disappointment. I'm going to do it. You've got to do it well. Jack? It was the same. I was sitting in between periods. I'm like, how am I going to score a goal?
Starting point is 00:06:50 I've never been out of a break while that's not true. I scored on my one breakway. I was getting sent stuff all night on their Instagram of you. I hope you have lots of it, Jack. This is amazing. Now, Rhett was worried about disappointing. Let's watch it again. And Jack, you get to be the disappointmentometer.
Starting point is 00:07:07 Like 0 to 10, how much to do this. Is it a crowd into it? Yeah, volume up again. I think they liked it. You were saying, while this was going on, I came up with this in between peers. I'm not going to score. And like, sure, as he says, you've got to get noticed.
Starting point is 00:07:20 So I was like, I got to do something to get noticed here. All right. Let's watch it again. See if we get noticed sufficiently, right? It sounds like the crowd likes it. Was that? Yeah, daddy. You don't have a daughter.
Starting point is 00:07:37 That's quite something. You're a dad? So sticky. You almost had it. And I'll give the goalie credit. I would have bit hard there. I'm not goalie, but I thought you had them. This is great stuff.
Starting point is 00:07:51 I should have faked a little harder a shot. That is true. He's waiting for your first bluff. And as soon as you don't fake the shot, he knows your bluff's going to the forehand, I think. Huh. Jack thoughts? I love it, Red.
Starting point is 00:08:06 They're going to get out there. Oh, boy, Redster. Thanks, Jack. Just go full on Red and just soak this in here. That's what I would love. Let's look at this stud that somehow we get to line up and work with five years a week. Colin Patterson was more impressed because shortly after that, they had the big screen on. I think when we scored 10, the Shorzie team had to do laps.
Starting point is 00:08:27 So you were shirtless. Putting the lumber down on these guys. Yeah, we respect them pretty good. And my nephew and his idiot buddies were at the game, and they had their Warner jerseys on backwards, and they were on the big screen chugging a beer. How proud were you? I was standing up.
Starting point is 00:08:43 I was like, Pattern, give me another one. Yeah, it was good. And I got to say, Brian McGratton got the drumstick. Okay. As player of the game. Drumstick player of the game. Absolute sham.
Starting point is 00:08:59 Ooh. An absolute sham. I mean, it's not taking away anything from Brian McGratton's game, Biggern. You know I'm not going to shit talk bigger, right? Sounds killing you are, but continue. No, no, no. What I'm not trying to shit talk bigger. What I'm trying to do is say that Brent Cron was undisputably the greatest player in that game.
Starting point is 00:09:18 Really? Stood on his head, old school kick saves, windmill, gloves. I'm telling you, I, there were 20 saves that were highlight real save. he was unbelievable. Not a goal against in the shootouts. Five. Really? Perfect.
Starting point is 00:09:35 Five for five? Dude. Brett Cron. God love you. And I don't like pumping his tires because he's been such a prick to us. No, he's a good boy. He's a good boy,
Starting point is 00:09:47 as Boone would say. And he was, I didn't think he had that kind of game. I didn't think he had that kind of game. I didn't think he had that kind of ability. Well, I think it had been juniors since he's played well at the Saddle Dome. So that's exciting.
Starting point is 00:09:58 Extraordinarily good. Thank you. runner. Thank you, You said it was a good crowd? It was a good crowd. I was concerned. It was, I was like, who's going to go watch a bunch of old dusters, like, play mensly? Like, this will be, but I, I said it, I forget who I said it to. It was like, well, maybe it was you guys. If there's a crowd, then you get a little bit
Starting point is 00:10:24 of, butterflies. Oh, there's a little bit of, buzzing there are juices going here. Let's, well, I haven't put it on the show. So have you seen a bunch of the show? you've got kids that are what 17 14 12 like are they into the show what's what's oldest kid loves the show the boys were pumped so bad age group 17 year olds the other two i'm like language is a little sharp please young fellas not quite there yet i'm sure they'll get that or they're watching it anyway right i love the show i think it's great because i don't watch a lot
Starting point is 00:10:52 of tv but when i'm kind of zoned out on a when i'm going to bed it's short sweet makes me laugh out. Yeah, it's not world politics or like sports. And it's very relatable to my upbringing. Like it's pretty bang on. The conversations are, yep, man. That's how it sounded. Yep. There's an authenticity to it. I love it.
Starting point is 00:11:14 Comments are great. Sit Hewardo, play Red Daddy. Kroner was awesome. Windmill glove saves are awesome. He was amazing. I'm telling you, I can't say enough about how good Brent Krod was. And someone asking how you're feeling today, given your all-star caliber of play yesterday.
Starting point is 00:11:35 I back-checked in the second period and absolutely ripped my groin and I'm like, oh, and it is tender. I'm sure it'll get a lot of attention. There's a lot of ways to go there. If only you're up in Jasper, you can go sit in the hot tubs up there and really some ice on it or we'll see.
Starting point is 00:11:57 It was fun, no. I think everybody had fun. Goals, assist with stat line plus minus off the golf. We started out slow. I had your dumps for 60. I don't know if I told you this. When Patterson was coach, Lanny was coached, Tim Hunter were coached. They sent out the email.
Starting point is 00:12:12 Okay, here's the team. And I replied back with a bit of a, it's all about me email. Well, tongue in chief. Yeah. Like, hey fellas, I'm here. And it was almost silence in. Like, no one was real. I'm like, oh.
Starting point is 00:12:27 Crickets. And so then they stuck me with play with Macau. God. Is Cancuner still going? go? He's no. So you're, you guys, it's not your fault. It's not your fault. Hard miles. But we came out and I think we scored three or four right off before I got on the ice.
Starting point is 00:12:44 And then I got on the ice and we were dashed too. So quickly evened it up. Yeah, of course, you have to a rough start. Right. Jeez. Dang. I had some chances. I joined on the puck or what? I joined the rush a few times.
Starting point is 00:13:01 I had a couple shots. And you were nervous about this. So you're feeling good? Wonderful sauce pass. Really? To who? I don't know. Now, who else was on the squad?
Starting point is 00:13:12 You mentioned McCowan. Yeah. Krone. He was myself, Comey. Oh, Comey, good. How was he? He was decent. He was, he sweats when he walks down the street.
Starting point is 00:13:23 I was going to say. It was a heavy regere. Reggie. Obviously still in great shape. Yeah, he could still buzz around. Big Hank, Dana Merson. and Jamie McCallum were the 6D. Ots was up front.
Starting point is 00:13:38 Joel Otto. Theo was up there. Theo, that boy. Glen Cross, Stajun, Brower, Kalanos. Boy, I'm going to forget guys. That's all right. You're doing good.
Starting point is 00:13:52 Mason. Jelly. Out of that group, who looks the closest? Is it Brower? Is it Glencross? Is it Stade. Raymond can still flip around pretty good. Actually, Chris Kalanos can fly.
Starting point is 00:14:04 fire out there too. He can shoot it. But Glennie and those other, the guys that are a decade younger than I am. It's a bit of a head start. Yeah, they can still go. Yeah. We'll see you in 10 years, Kalano. Marty Jelina was in there grinding. He took a puck of the cheek, had to get stitched up. Really? What a battler. Oh, and he came back. Oh, wouldn't miss. Yeah. What a stud. Can't slow him down.
Starting point is 00:14:26 What a stud. And then he's off to Arizona this morning. Already there. Gone. Good life. watching Notre Dame play or North Dakota play ASU I know Colin Potter in that one that's no but Nodex a bunch of guys three Littler and then obviously
Starting point is 00:14:42 Cole Rushney the first rounder and then they got the Abram Weeb who was the fourth piece in the Rasmus Anderson deal and there's a good chance that they could be drafting one as well given that Keaton Bearhoffs right in the mix for
Starting point is 00:14:59 where they'd be selecting have a mock draft to look through thanks for coming down and watching jack though how was the sea train was it a long wait your name got mentioned good great when I got in they announced everyone this yeah yeah
Starting point is 00:15:16 best known for putting up with pender see I'm famous guys you're a big deal like that thorn in the ass of those two that's pender okay that's his name got it um you would have missed the oilers game which is too bad. No, it was on in the
Starting point is 00:15:32 in the locker room. And I got to tell you, the Flames alumni Yeah. We're A-OK with the watching that game. Hmm. Well, maybe like, because, you know, the, was there some former penguins that maybe were on that alumni or?
Starting point is 00:15:48 I don't recall any penguinos. No. No. Jack, did you seem to catch any of the Whilers game? They start to finish. Start to finish. Yes.
Starting point is 00:15:58 Do we have any whiteboard action? just going to talk about the vibes. Talk about the vibes. The fastest three goals against in Oilers history. They've been around a while. They were in the league before the flames. Yeah, WHA, they had a squad that came in in the late 70s, didn't it? Sheesh.
Starting point is 00:16:16 Got their doors blown off 6-2. McDavid held off the score sheet for a second straight game. That's rare. Dry-siddle with the, hey, I'm here to play after being back in Germany for a bit. A surprise return to the lineup. Tristan Jari getting air. rated by his old team. Stuart Skinner working the gate with a ball cap with chuckling and chortling the whole way. Loving life. And I looked and the Evanton Oilers are 17th in the
Starting point is 00:16:39 NHL. They have not won three games in a row. They're the only team to do that. And they also with at five on five are a nightmare. Like it's still an elite power play in a team that does well to get to three on three in overtime. They played 52 games. They won less than half. They have 25 wins. We haven't talked about them for a while. I thought they were kind of. Yeah, it's a soft part of the schedule and they're taking care of business, but every now and then they're getting smacked by teams that I think are good,
Starting point is 00:17:08 not great. Like, I think the penguins are good, Jack. I think, you know, I'm joking with you, there'd be ninth in the Easter year. I think they get in.
Starting point is 00:17:14 Uh, but I don't think they're Colorado or Dallas or Vegas or Tampa or Carolina. Like, but if you think, it's a good example, though, and I'm in all seriousness, who's got a better line out?
Starting point is 00:17:28 Oilers? I make McDavid and Drysettel are younger for sure. Drysettle hasn't been playing. Was he out last time? First game back? Okay. He's still on the team. Yeah, he missed like two games. But you have Crosby and Malcolon that can play
Starting point is 00:17:44 pretty good. And the Pengers are without LaTang and Carlson. Was the Tang out again last night? That's Carlson was back Latang. If you have Bouchard, okay, well, we have Carlson. Yeah, okay. Who's better? Well, I like the Oilers top three because they're younger, but I think your point you're probably making is that the penguin's depth is
Starting point is 00:18:02 world's better. And this was after Stan Bowman's going to fix all these problems. Look at Manjapani. They're trying to trade him now. Look at this. Oh, I coward. He's going to play. He's doing nothing. He can light up the A. He's not ready yet to be an NHL producer. It's a shot here there, a point every two weeks. He's not ready. Oh, Trent Frederick. The debut, he was hurt. He was hurt. We're going to give an eight-year extension. Crickets. Like it's another offseason the year after they don't match the offer sheets and blow their wad on Jeff Skinner and Victor Arvetson where you're like they're shopping for a third line forward again. That's literally the oilers are in search of forward depth. You're like, what have you been spending your first son like the last five years?
Starting point is 00:18:45 I guess it wouldn't matter for this year, but you have the best player in the world. Yes. And like maybe the second or third best player in the world. She's like, cheaper. But yes. Like. Oh, yeah. Crazy.
Starting point is 00:18:56 Good on you. I said cultural capital in the room. Well received. Yeah, people like that. They loved it. That's awesome. What a great yes. You can slide in a sweatpants blast or cultural capital, hippotank.
Starting point is 00:19:13 That one's a little more inside. I'd love to rally or say we're all all burdens. It's not how rivalry works. It's together, but you people in Edmonton stink. the best part about going to Jasper is in the end of January isn't that the lodge is under construction and the hot pools are closed
Starting point is 00:19:35 and that the restaurant with the Caesar I've been salivating over for the last two weeks is closed what it's that I mean they're renovating the whole bloody thing it's that we get to go up with these people that care more about this professional sports team than their own children, wives and parents
Starting point is 00:19:53 in the midst and in the wake of a blowout loss to a team, everyone thought was going to be in the McKenna sweepstakes. Like this is perfect timing, Jack. Are you ready? Are you, are you weapon sharpened and ready for some oilers smack? You can attack, but you will also have to defend. Attack and defend.
Starting point is 00:20:13 So here's the attack, because I do this for a living, essentially. You're going to need three or four jabs at the Oilers. So my go-to is fumbled dynasty, like zero cups from McDavid. Yes, you love that one. It's just amazing stuff. Like, what if I told you to have two of the best players in the world for a decade? How many cups should you get? At least a couple.
Starting point is 00:20:31 Probably two or three. You can go to the cap space, the Skinner for Skinner East trade. There's lots of stuff there. I have one three in a row. All these good little tidbits. That's the attack. And then what their natural reaction is, but what about the flames? And I said, well, why would the Oilers compare to a team in a rebuild?
Starting point is 00:20:52 Like Colorado's not measuring against cows. Calgary. Why don't you measure? Well, that doesn't make sense. Do you think the American Dream Team when they go to the Summer Olympics is like, well, we got to watch this Venezuelan team. Like, we're better at every position than them.
Starting point is 00:21:09 You should be. So that's the defense. And that's the important one because the attack's easy right now. No cups. Fumbled Dynasty, whatever. Hey, we are excited about Olympic here. We can cheer for Connor. He actually wins at these things.
Starting point is 00:21:22 That's the attack, but the defense is crucial. There's no comparing to Calgary. Why would you do that? Yeah, why would you? Are the Calgary flames fumbling the prime of two superstars? No. No, they always say we sent Calgary into a rebuild, though. That's their...
Starting point is 00:21:38 And the more look at it, it's kind of accurate. I don't like that. But the immediate response would be like, well, okay, so if Connor leaves, then it was Chuck and Bennett that are sending... Okay. Tougher sell there. But you've got to be ready for this stuff. Be organized.
Starting point is 00:21:53 Thank God you're going to mouth me. You're just like, don't talk to me. I'm watching Wheel of Fortune. Go away. Why are we discussing the Oilers? It's their lives. Where are we going to avoid these people when we need to now? Well, I was thinking the steam room, sauna, bar, hot pools.
Starting point is 00:22:13 We'll see how many of those are open, but I'm. Burn a bridge early, Jack, and just get home tomorrow. Just go in and I can't be. Start a fight? Yeah. We do some free time on our hands because there's a pregame show, a watch party, and a post game show for the Oilers events. The fact that you cannot attend a Oilers watcher.
Starting point is 00:22:31 No, God, no. This is, I was, this was going to be prime time at the hot pools. So the honks would be breathing all over each other, talking about a great 97 is. Oh, gross. Yeah, it's pretty gross. It's just gross. We're going to find, we're going to send some photos in the group chat. We're going to find the most Edmontonian dude, the most Edmontonian truck,
Starting point is 00:22:52 the most heartbroken oiler fan. We'll send them all in there. God. Ovatch can score Hatrick and they keep catching these guys on back to backs. That was Penguin's second game of two nights on the road. Shalacked.
Starting point is 00:23:06 Shalacked. That Crosby goal was awesome. It's a fast, three goals and ever against the Oilers. They've had some stinky teams. Stinky. Like there was a decade of darkness they didn't have three that fast
Starting point is 00:23:21 against them. How fast? 37 seconds for 3. 37 seconds. Tony Manta's having a year. Wow. Jack, your boy Dubas has reloaded very, like there's some free agents that no one cared about
Starting point is 00:23:37 that looked good at Pittsburgh right. Manta and Brazzers. Your boy, browsers. They're good together. And they're playing with Malkin. It's like an elephant line. They're playing with Kindle now. Malcolm's playing online too.
Starting point is 00:23:49 Earlier they had them all together. You're like, every dude here is a monster. That's a beef cake line, yeah. Yeah, because Manta might not always play fiscal, but his first game ever is a flame was in Vancouver. that crazy comeback winning overtime. He had the Gordy Hall that night. Well, the complaint was he doesn't always play as hard as he can.
Starting point is 00:24:04 But what he wants to look out. Yes, and now he's got Sidbo to be. He's got leadership. It's a real leader, Jack. A winner. Sidney Crosby. Yeah, he's on pace for like 30, I think. Since having a great year.
Starting point is 00:24:16 No, Matt. Yeah, Matt, yeah, he's on pace for almost 30. Don't look at his Calgary numbers. Why would the penguins compare to them? He's hurt. I want to grab this Crosby. Do it. Let me know when you got it. I got it.
Starting point is 00:24:30 Caps are in town tonight. Always fun to see Ovi. It's funny because like Sid just came through and you're like, yeah, we'll probably see Sid a few more times. And I think it's like, yeah, we'll probably see Ovin and then we'll hang on. So last year, Ovi's deal. Yeah. Would Ovi be the guy that wants the farewell tour?
Starting point is 00:24:49 Or would Ovi be the guy to be like, it was great. I didn't tell anyone, see ya. I don't need a soap scope from every. I get the feeling he wouldn't give a, he. He doesn't care, but I don't know if he's done either. Do you know what I mean? And the team's good enough. I think that's a draw.
Starting point is 00:25:03 He's coming back because he wants a farewell tour and say bye to everybody. Like if he knew, would he tell you? Yeah, I'm going to score 30 again. And I like that. March to a thousand continues. Yeah, he might want to do that. What's he at? Probably around 915 or so because he ended last year just under 900, I think.
Starting point is 00:25:23 What was it? 896 was the record. So he got 20-ish. a thousand's a long way to go yeah you need probably feels like at that age but then he scores 30 and you're like oh oh got hot it's playing on a third line with nick dowd and uh somebody named frank i don't think he cares no i think he likes going to the rink and having fun and ripping one timers and score of gold if they're looking for ovi there nowhere he is
Starting point is 00:25:48 yeah yeah i'll be over here i know you know where to find me yeah i'll be there i'm ready give to me okay we turn it over you guys go back check i'm gonna head of the I'll get on side, barely, and then we'll do it again. Caps are interesting. They've been a team that I think a lot of teams would love to be. You thought they were going to be nose diving into a rebuild. Well, you know, it's Ovi and, you know, they had Baxter and Carlson's still there. And, you know, if this team fades off, it's okay because they're honoring the superstar.
Starting point is 00:26:22 But then they've drafted really well. This Sortief kid has been awesome this year. Last year, Connor McMichael had a big coming out year. Alexi Protis is huge and can fly. They've got the younger Hudson kid on the way. They've drafted really, really well. Jacob Chikrin, Savi Ad, they immediately re-up. He should be on Team Canada.
Starting point is 00:26:43 Like, no one in the right mind thinks Travis Sandheim's better than this guy, but we're going to take the same age. Okay. Well, don't lose the tournament or we'll find out where you live. Dump a ton of manure on your front line. But it's a good team. They're kind of an unnot forgotten, but they're not talked about. No. Right.
Starting point is 00:27:02 And they were the top team in the East last year. Yeah. They got goalie. I like the goalie. Logan Thomas and Calgary boy. He, uh, second in Vezna odds, only Billy's Sorokin. Yeah. Shorter odds and lights out.
Starting point is 00:27:17 Throken's very good. So, you know, won't be boring. I hope for, in the sense, you get to watch Ovi, but, uh, if the flames have a game, plan it probably is to like bore a lot of Friday yeah but Friday's always have a little jump at the dome and
Starting point is 00:27:35 there'll be a pop for Ovi and anyone that loves Ovi will be there with the jersey so I think it'll be a good night down at the dome seven o'clock start tonight Jack we're going to find this game somewhere so we can stay away from the earlyish fans definitely what else are we going to do what time are we on the ice
Starting point is 00:27:51 by the way I haven't even looked at that I think the games start after six for registrations for us. I asked Jack if he was packed and ready to go. If you were going somewhere to play pond hockey for three days, what kind of things would you pack and let's see if Jack has done it? I would have, because it's winter.
Starting point is 00:28:14 It's going to be minus 15 is like the height. I would have those, the long underwear? Long underwear? Jack, long underwear. Yes or no? No. Jack, do you have a toque? No. It's like a high school kid.
Starting point is 00:28:29 Do you have gloves? Hockey gloves? Sweat pants? Like do you have sweatpants? Track pants at least? Track pants, yes. Now, Rhett, maybe we're not all Commodores, but like if you're going to be playing pawn hockey,
Starting point is 00:28:42 how many pairs of socks would you bring if you had three games, three days? I'd bring a couple for sure. Like two, a couple or more than that? Three. Three pairs of socks. We're rolling around wet socks all day. Uh, well, are you working that hard? that we're playing hockey outside.
Starting point is 00:29:00 I want Jack to skate hard. I would, I would have a pair of socks in my bag. Yeah, that's what I used for hockey. And then I would have others. How many pairs of socks are there we can? Three pairs of normal socks and one pair for hockey.
Starting point is 00:29:16 Okay, that's good. They told me two before, which is, I just had a couple. Yeah, I got a pair of my hockey bag. I don't mind that. So no gloves. The two things are going to be an issue. Or do you have to wear a help? have to wear a helmet.
Starting point is 00:29:28 But you also, when you're not playing. You have the bella clava. I'm going to put, I got this thin hoodie. I'm going to put the hood over. Okay, I don't mind that. Under the helmet. Yeah. Don't mind that at all.
Starting point is 00:29:39 Winter jacket? Skates. You got your fall jacket here today. Did you bring your winter jacket? That's my winter jacket. It's a big jacket. Mine's 15. You ready to walk outside for 20 minutes at a time?
Starting point is 00:29:52 Did you bring your skates? Yes. Skates, helmets. gloves stick one stick uh the wolverine showing up with the barn burn of jerseys they're excited about that yeah you don't care you got jerseys from everything it's a cajillion jersey it's a cajillion jerseys socks and jerseys so many so many socks and jerse so that's our weekend oh you're going to love it it's going to be great just a quick little five hour drive to get there zip zip i'm worried about this drive up because jack is not feeling at his emotional high point nor his
Starting point is 00:30:27 most social amount of time. And he doesn't like the one podcast that comes up Friday that I'd be listening to normally. I won't do it to you. I've already thought about it. We're going to have to get him some country early, get him in the groove. I love the fact that you have to miss football on Sunday or the way home. That's the worst part.
Starting point is 00:30:43 We'll try to stick out. When is the early game on one? We'd have to bail. Let's get up at 8th and go. Yeah, I'm fine with that. He loves his football. Oh, you don't have to play. No.
Starting point is 00:30:54 Oh, that helps. We can get the help out of there, I think. Yeah, I think. there's two games. Well, and you do not have to sit around on Saturday night during the Oilers honk, Bill. Yeah, I've played Flip Cup. I don't know that I need more this weekend.
Starting point is 00:31:07 Done that. I don't think there's a new move I haven't learned in Flip Cup. You know what I mean? But knowing you. No, even last year, I was just like, you know, it's the exact same party for the ninth night I've been in Jasper. I'm okay. I wanted to go out into the town, but apparently
Starting point is 00:31:25 there's no shuttle buses this year either. We'll get a cab. That's okay. They're going to need some space. Yeah. It's a five-minute ride and they'll gank you for 25 bucks, but that's okay. You can do that. You got to love it.
Starting point is 00:31:35 Yeah. Business expense, right? Yeah. Just charge it to the... Subit that shit. Charge it to the dance. Thank you. Our benevolent. Benevolent overlords.
Starting point is 00:31:45 Let's do the Pinda Report. We do it for Village Honda. We're back in a winter. We told you it was too good to be true. It wasn't going to be plus 10 the rest of January, February, and on. So you need a winter-ready SUV. and you need to go to villageonda.com to check their inventory or get up to the lot. All wheel drives, four by fours, something that's ready for our schizophrenic winners here in Calgary.
Starting point is 00:32:07 Village Honda, check them out. Start on a game day. Blames Nation, there he is. Look at this guy. That's intense. I was going to say, what did someone just say to Ovi? Let's play the game. What did someone just say to Ovi?
Starting point is 00:32:19 I don't know. Maybe that's how he is every game. Maybe that's the focus you need to score 900. I don't know. He seems more jovial, but there is an intensity to his game. Jack, what did someone just say to Ovi here? Look at that photo. I think he's just always like that.
Starting point is 00:32:34 Okay. I'm going to say Ovi, we're going to really hustle and undress after the game, but the charter's out of beer. No, I think the coach said, Ovi, we need you to back check. Ovi, you're on the penalty kill and we're sliding this tardief kit on the power play. I want you to back check tonight, Alex. No. Silence.
Starting point is 00:32:52 No, that joke for coach. Just a look. Yeah. Ovi, we're actually, we're not going to tell the league, but during the Olympic break, we're actually going to practice every day. You're not going to Cabo. Fat chance. Okay, we'll keep going.
Starting point is 00:33:10 Flames Nation's got some content. Craig Conroy has completely overhauled the Cavalry Flames since taking over. It's been 32 months. My mess says that's about two and a half years. Two and else. Can't compute. Almost three years. Wow.
Starting point is 00:33:26 Has it aged a bit. Not in that photo, no. That's actually his introductory press conference. I should do it side by side. We should not. That would be me. It was like the Obama one where it's like. So much stress.
Starting point is 00:33:40 How many terms did he have? No, it's stress over it. I feel like it's a stressful job. We know, this would be easy. I don't know. What are easy. A lot of managing of things. Job Pike.
Starting point is 00:33:51 That way, Piker. We had to farm 15 comments. That's a boy. Boy, wrench. There was a mock draft down at daily faceoff.com and not someone to ignore. Stephen Ellis is very good with the prospect stuff. Here is his mock.
Starting point is 00:34:07 First overall, the Vancouver Canucks Select. What do the Canucks love? Sweets. Ivor Steenberg, number one. Number two, St. Louis. They get McKenna and the flames drafted. Three? The big D.
Starting point is 00:34:22 Not the big D. Oh, Caleb Hulture? Tyne and Lawrence, the other center. It's Mahalter and Lawrence at the top two centers in the draft, and that's basically what Ellis notes. Flames could use some extra center depth, especially if they move on from Nazim Kadri. They could go with Lawrence or Caleb Mahalter here.
Starting point is 00:34:37 Lawrence has struggled to produce early in college. You just switched from the USA to the college a couple weeks ago. But joining a new team mid-season, especially at a higher level, never easy. Scouts are happy to see the move. If you can get comfortable, you can boost his draft stock down the line. Remember you're drafting based on the future, not the present.
Starting point is 00:34:54 A few players can influence the play with and without the puck in this draft class like Lawrence can. We haven't talked a ton about him. He's the MVP of the USHL finals as a 16-year-old last year. And he just made the jump from the USHL to college midway through the year. He is favored to go first amongst all centers. Mahaltrow's made up huge ground and looks like he'd be number two off the board if you went by consensus. Why wouldn't you take Verhof? Well, I don't mind.
Starting point is 00:35:24 You don't want to draft based on positional need, but you also do have a lot of righties, and you'd hate to take a lesser player because you think you have too many righties, but you also really need centers. And if he's going to be an elite center, yeah, if you can get an elite center, get an elite center.
Starting point is 00:35:40 Go get an elite center. Go do that. Him and Rashdie forever. Let's go. Come on. Come on, fellas. Uh, we'll keep moving. Flame schedule. We saw the two game losing skid this week, heading into tonight's game against Washington.
Starting point is 00:35:54 It's nice that, you know, we had some concerns about this home streak, but they've, this is, we're okay these last two. Huberto apparently will be back tonight. Oh, good. Will we notice?
Starting point is 00:36:09 What will we notice? No. He'll help the cause for sure. I don't think he's, I don't feel bad. It's so cheeky and cheek. Let's pull back the curtain a little. So we do,
Starting point is 00:36:20 we cut clips of the show. when we push them out on social media. So Jack will edit some of them. Sometimes it's Yasmin, who's not an intern. I always get said, don't call Yasmin the intern. I didn't. She's not an intern. Not an intern.
Starting point is 00:36:33 Other people will sometimes cut clips. And Jack said, this clip will do numbs. Like, it'll do numbers. People will watch it. And the clip was like eight seconds long. 16 seconds on. Okay. Yeah, it was basically saying he's useless.
Starting point is 00:36:48 Oh. You're welcome, Red. Rhett, let's go get a drink. Leave Jack. You go down to the dome and you feel like a real heel. You? No, you're a hero down there. What are you talking about?
Starting point is 00:37:05 It's the truth. I heard you saying this team wasn't very good. It's like, have you seen the standings? I saw some comments on that clip. People that were watching that game were like yelling at the TV like, where is Huberto? He's like, oh, he's not even playing. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:23 So they did notice. Some people noticed he. Yeah. Like lots of stuff. But it took him like a period or two to realize, oh, he's not even. It's not in the line. Pospicel back. He played the left side.
Starting point is 00:37:34 They left Kirkland in. I would suggest you see Pospicel down the middle, potentially. And Kirkland out. That's just guessing. I don't have a problem with those guys. But Huberto has not looked like the guy they acquired in trade, you know, since he got here, sadly. It's as big a fall off. as you can have. In fact, it was the biggest single season drop off in initial history when he went from 115 points to like 60 something.
Starting point is 00:38:01 And he's nowhere near 60. What's he on pace for? 40 something. Under 40, I think. Under 40? Yeah. I mean, wow. Him and Pedersen. What a comment. Worse than that. Patterson at least has the excuse of missing a month or whatever. Boy, not good. Well, let's look at the caps, a team that is good and a team that has reloaded on the fly without really having to strip it down that far. Dylan Strom has been a nice ad for them. Ryan Leonard, they love. This guy's a little ball of hate, hits, shots, physical play. He came and joined the team last spring after finishing in college. McMichael also on the top line. This Sortief kid has come out of nowhere and been very good for them.
Starting point is 00:38:40 He's playing with Tom Wilson and Alexi Proto. Those are two fun winners to play with. Huge size, great speed on the left. Dowd of Etchen and Ethan Frank, your third line, Kay. And Tony Bovillier. Hendricks LaPierre and Brandon Du Hame, your fourth line. Deep, star power,
Starting point is 00:39:00 not incredibly flashy, but solid, okay, decor. Jacob Chikrin having a monster year. If he gets to 20 goals, no one would be surprised. He's been great. John Carlson seems ages. He might be a guy that doesn't get talked about enough. We said the other day, Malcolm,
Starting point is 00:39:17 he's playing with Krosby all the time. He never gets as much rub as, you know, he should. Carlson's that guy. No one talks about Carlson who watched these. It's been there for every. He's been great. Farivari and Roy, they brought Roy over from L.A. a couple off seasons ago. And Rass was Sandy and they picked off the scrap heap from Toronto when he was out of favor with the Leafs.
Starting point is 00:39:38 And TVR, the ran, Rames that guys, what are they eating? What's in their diet? They just keep hanging around. James scoring, playing still. Trevor's still going. Good blood. Is that what it is? Good, good genes.
Starting point is 00:39:51 It's like watching those young Warner boys. You're like, there's something special here. I don't know. Is it, their parenting techniques? No, it's just good DNA. Disciplines. Oh, good discipline.
Starting point is 00:40:01 No, no, God, they're awful parents. Just good Jesus, yeah. In that, potentially Canada's starter, I hope so at the Olympics. Jordan Bennington's having an awful year. Darcy Kemper came back last night, said he tweaked something. It wasn't as bad as originally thought,
Starting point is 00:40:18 at least from the outside looking in. This is your best chance at an ace goalie at the Olympics. and Logan's been very good. And Pierre-Luk Dubois has been, uh, he's been hurt a lot. All year? I believe so. I have not checked the game log, but, uh, we have not seen much Pierre-Luk Dubois
Starting point is 00:40:34 at all. He's a nice piece when he's playing well. There is that. Yeah. He's like the French Canadian Alex Semen. When he's right, you love him. Yes. When he's wrong, it's like, get him out of here.
Starting point is 00:40:46 Yeah. And that trade that we thought was like, oh, man, like the Jets and Kings, the Jets just fleeced the Kings. They got. Filardi, they got two other guys that are good. The Kings are stuck with Dubois. They'll never be able to get rid of him. Rob Blake, one of his last moves, his GM, sends him to Washington for, well, you know,
Starting point is 00:41:05 Logan Thompson's already better, Lindgren's already better than Darcy Kemper. Let's see, we'll roll the ice on purely to walk. Camper's been great in L.A., and PLD has been much better than we thought he was going to be when he left L.A. It's worked for both teams. I was shocked. I thought PLD was done and cooked. He was tracking on the Patrick Line H trajectory. Like irrelevance. But he's been good when he's been healthy there.
Starting point is 00:41:32 Bottom 10 in the league. Retro, look at this. A great night in the out of town score by the Jets, the Jets, the Jets. Oh. Love you, Manitoba. Love you, Manitoba. Go get him. If only by a tie break of one more regulation where the Jets just wheeled around and gave Connie the bird.
Starting point is 00:41:51 They passed him. Shoveled a off, flipping the bird on the highway. Flames back to bottom three in the NHL. And look at this, the blues. Talking one point difference. Blues are right there. This is some good work here. I'm worried about the Rangers.
Starting point is 00:42:08 Rangers are a concern. Chicago's come back to Earth, but you're hoping Bedard will get them going a bit. And the Canucks are putting on a master class. You just got to tip your cap sometimes. Okay, let's say worst case scenario, we draft six. Oh, yeah? Well, let's work it out. Yeah, okay, let's work it out.
Starting point is 00:42:24 Can we still get one of those top centers? I think you could, you'd have a good chance to have one of those centers left because there's a couple D not named Verhoff. McKenna Stembourg, Verhoff. Oh, we got our guy. We got our guy. Oh, my gosh, time's fun. Okay, we'll pause this here.
Starting point is 00:42:39 We'll revisit the bottom of the league in a moment, but let's get to our insider hotline. We do that for our great friends at Crystal Waters. Somebody woke up in Calgary today and said, what the hell's going on with my furnace? It's now minus 15. I didn't notice it when it was plus 10, but we got a little blast of winter here. The people you call when that happens are Crystal Waters. Crystal Clearcalgary.com is the website,
Starting point is 00:43:03 whether it's your furnace, AC in the summer, humidifier, hot water tank, tankless water heaters, boilers, garage heaters. It's all there. crystal clearcalgary.com 403-21940100 on the insider hotline. Darren of TSN. Happy Friday, Dregs.
Starting point is 00:43:21 How are you, sir? I'm at a slow boil. I'm not going to lie right now. Slow boil. Yeah, I don't know if you guys ever have to deal with technology. I'm not very good at it, to be honest. So I'm a partial season ticket holder. So me and like five buddies.
Starting point is 00:43:38 And we have a draft every fall to pick the leaf tickets, go to the games you want. All right. Well, I don't even remember where I pecked like first or second or whatever. And I thought, okay, well, this Marner Return game in Toronto, kind of a big deal, right? So planning to go to the game, sit in the stands and just appreciate
Starting point is 00:43:59 and experience everything that is going to go into this one. I can't download the tickets. Oh! You've got to call your ticket agent person. I mean, it's, and you know, you leave the app because you've got to reset your password
Starting point is 00:44:15 and there's a verification code and then you try and you copy the code to get back into the app. app and you're not on the right page there. So anyway, that's what I've been doing for the last 20. It's great when it works, Drake, that's it. Only good when it works. You have a son that could help you?
Starting point is 00:44:31 There's got to be someone tech savvy in your in your scene. No, empty desk, which is you're right. Normally that's what I would do. But in this circumstance. And then you call Tegadmaster and they're like, yeah, sorry, that's, you know, here's a dick and older. So, yeah, that's not our problem. Call the Leafs.
Starting point is 00:44:49 So anyway. I figured up. Are you cold out there? I heard it's very cold. It's going to be the coldest place in the world. Yeah. Did you guys see that? I mean,
Starting point is 00:44:58 coldest place in the world. Dramatic. Yeah. Like, what do we talk? And so I've got a sibling. My sister lives in Invermae, Saskatchewan. I don't know if you guys are familiar with that.
Starting point is 00:45:09 She sent me their forecast yesterday. And I think the warmest day was minus 34, but it feels like minus 47, right? The warmest day. Yeah. And I'm looking at that going, Okay, well, wait a minute. Like, I, you know, I'm like 30 minutes outside of, of the G, well, I'm part of the GTA, but Toronto.
Starting point is 00:45:28 And it's like minus 12. What are they talking about? Like, what are we talking about? Like, it's, it is going to get colder and maybe it gets close to like minus 25, 26. But I mean, to say it's the coldest place on earth or even in North America is absurd. I mean, that's, oh, over dramatic. My kids are outside skating.
Starting point is 00:45:50 I don't know when it was recently. And it was cold here. Minutes 18, maybe. I don't even remember. But I called my mom because I'm like, as a concerned parent, is this too cold? And I said, did we,
Starting point is 00:46:03 did you ever, ever once in your life say it's too cold to go and skate outside? And she's like, no. No. What are you talking about? You come in if it's too cold. And I know for, like, I'm positive.
Starting point is 00:46:18 We were skating on the ODR. when it was minus 30. Guarguargeet. Let's go. No, I mean, there are several things living in southern Ontario that these people, when I bring up these stories, look at me, like I've got two heads on my shoulders. Like, one is, what's a block heater? You actually plug in your vehicle?
Starting point is 00:46:38 What is that? That's crazy. Like, it was an electric vehicle back then. The other, of course, is frostbite. You know, they just, what is frostbite? That can't happen. Like, what are you going outside naked when it's my? Minus 50.
Starting point is 00:46:51 No. I mean, to your point, Rhett, when we were on the backyard ranks of the ponds of the dugouts, as we used to call it. Dougouts, yeah. I mean, yeah, it's minus 25. It's minus 30. And you couldn't even smile because your face was like rock solid. It was ridiculous.
Starting point is 00:47:06 And then you'd come in in a half hour later, dangerous as hell. You'd have that big white circle where it was literally frostbite. Oh. That's, that's frostbite. And the other thing, so my son's working out there now. and he's got a work truck. He works for a farm dealership. And I'm telling him, well, it's literally minus 39,
Starting point is 00:47:28 and it feels like minus 50 in Manitoba this morning. I'm like, bud, like, you've got to be careful when you're driving for obvious reasons. But I said, if that vehicle freezes up, you know, you're in one. What do you mean freezes? It's not going to freeze up. I'm like, yeah. Like it, you know, back in the day, the cold air would get sucked into the motor and then the gas would gel and the oil would gel and everything would
Starting point is 00:47:52 shut down. But again, apparently that doesn't happen because, well, it will happen here because we're the coldest place on Earth right now in early. I hope you get through it. Yeah, the thoughts of first. The hole is war to. What will the atmosphere be at the, in
Starting point is 00:48:08 Toronto? Yeah. It's going to be raucous. It's going to be loud. Mitch is going to hear it every time he touches the puck. He's going to hear it before that in warm up. They'll do video tribute. I'm assuming it'll be fitting of the player that he was, a superstar for the Toronto Maple Leafs. I'm not sure that we'll be able to hear it because it'll probably be drowned out by
Starting point is 00:48:30 all of the booze and whatnot. And I wouldn't be surprised if there's some nonsense. And by nonsense, I mean, you know, a fan thrown a four or five hundred dollar former Toronto Maple Leaf Mitch Marner jersey onto the ice. I mean, that's that's honestly what I expect. But now you flip it over and what do I expect for Mitch Marner? I expect that. I expect that. But once he gets through the first dose of that noise, first shift or two in the first period, he'll put it behind him. We know the Vegas Golden Knights are a good team.
Starting point is 00:49:01 And if Toronto isn't ready, then miners can end up with two, three points. And Vegas is going to waltz out of Toronto with two points. So I think it's got multi-layers of entertainment built right into this one. This is the moment where everyone reflects. And it's going to be a game that everyone around the league is paying attention to. and it's the biggest hockey market in the world. And it was a guy that probably should have gone down as the greatest leaf of all time if things had gone well.
Starting point is 00:49:25 Yeah, maybe. How are you sort of sorting through the Mitch Marner history lesson here as he returns to that building for the first time, not as a leaf? Yeah, well, I've heard about this many times on social media and that's fine. I mean, we're all entitled to our opinion. In my case, you know, mine is a bit more educated simply because I know the details. I know the feelings of his side. I know why things didn't work out in terms of a contract extension in Toronto and all of that. You know, Toronto and most Canadian market is more because of the volume in Toronto.
Starting point is 00:50:01 The fan base does like to pick apart and pick at the carcass of certain players when things don't go well. And when you're paying three, 400 bucks for a seat, you can be as loud as you want, supportive or in a negative fashion. That's entirely up to you. I always felt like minor was treated unfairly, both in salary expectation and in delivery and the lack of success in the Stanley Cup playoffs. You know, did he pull his weight in the playoffs? You could build a case he didn't. But there's a long line of players during the minor era of the Toronto Maple Leafs that didn't do that.
Starting point is 00:50:41 It wasn't all because of him. And I asked Carl Kaliakvo about this on Toronto. Toronto radio earlier this morning. You know, as a guy who grew up in the greater Toronto area, still as a home, that's Carlo, played for the Maple Leafs. They said, just imagine, you know, as pro athletes, can you sign up to take the good, bad, and the ugly, right?
Starting point is 00:51:02 You step on to the ice. Yeah, there's a chance you're going to get booed. Chances are on home ice you do something well. You're going to get cheered. But to then have to worry about the safety of your family because the local fan base is coming to your place of residence, throwing stuff on your lawn, you've got extra security, police enforcement at times,
Starting point is 00:51:26 having to stand watch over your home with your family inside. I mean, that's crossing every line in my book. And frankly, that was the world that Mitch Minor lived in. And with his last contract in Toronto, of course, like many players, he negotiated a no move and no trade. He didn't want to go to Carolina at the trade deadline or around the trade deadline. Well, that's his right. He was entitled to make that call, you know, and at the end of the day, it came down to a negotiation,
Starting point is 00:51:56 came down to a process. It really wasn't much of a negotiation. He just decided that in the best interests of his family, above all else, it was time for a change. And that change ended up landing in Vegas. I mean, it happens. It's just in this market, you know, the volume consumes. And that's what it's done with Meyer. Like there's a lot of similarities to things here.
Starting point is 00:52:17 Like Johnny Godreau always got a tough beat for his playoff performances. And you're like, yeah, well, how was Gio in the playoffs? How was Rasmussen-Hannufin? How was Lung Holman and Cichuk? Like a lot of their best players weren't their best in the playoffs. And the stars are the ones that have to wear it. But I can't imagine if Johnny was a Calgary and it spent his whole life here, the extra magnifying glass. And, you know, I think maybe one of the healthiest parts about Mitch being in Vegas is,
Starting point is 00:52:44 that he can get out of that bubble where apparently anything that was murmured, said, tweeted, put on Facebook somehow got back to him. Like, I think Vegas is the perfect place from because he can be a civilian. There was no chance they've ever been a civilian in Toronto. No. And look, in fairness, okay, I mean, if you end up getting meek or ratinanin because Mitch minor agrees to wave and goes to the Carolina hurricanes, all right, that's a grand slam for Bradshaw living and the Maple Leafs.
Starting point is 00:53:13 It didn't work out that way. That's not the way it played out. But, you know, Nekwa is a good player from the Maple Leafs. He is. And look, if Vegas and Toronto hadn't come to that agreement, Mariner goes into free agency, and he signs in Vegas for nothing. Now, you know, Toronto needed or Vegas needed some assistance from a cap perspective,
Starting point is 00:53:37 but they could have found other ways to do this. So I think everybody, frankly, is looking forward to. getting this game over with probably minor near the top of the list, the Vegas Golden Knight's second. And I think, you know, the buddies, the pals that minor left behind that still play for the Maple Leafs. We got a dose of Austin Matthews. And I don't know if this made it out your way or not.
Starting point is 00:54:00 So the Vegas game last week, Matthews did a pregame interview. Did you guys see this with Mark Masters of TSN? And obviously Masters has to ask Austin Matthews. was the captain and a good friend of Mitch Marner, what he felt, you know, going into this first game, you know, against Marner and Matthews, I guess, in fairness, answered, but very quickly said, and that'll be the last question about Mitch that I answered today, Mark.
Starting point is 00:54:34 They swiftly swatted this guy in a one-off interview in a pregame, a one-on-one. It wasn't in a scrum. Right? It wasn't at a podium. I mean, what else is one of the hosts of the pregame shows supposed to ask the cap to the Leafs going into their first game against the Vegas Golden Knights with Mitch Meyer? So, you know, it's these two games in close proximity,
Starting point is 00:55:03 I've really boiled things over in this market. So in that respect to, I think everybody, myself included, I'm just looking forward to seeing the spectacle. and then moving on and seeing what comes next. It looked like Vegas had a bit of a trap game performance last night in Boston. They get down three rep very early, fight their way back, lose four, three. And meanwhile, the Leafs can't stay healthy on the blue line all year. And, you know, Tana may be done for the year.
Starting point is 00:55:29 We're not getting a lot of clarity on his multiple injuries he suffered this year. Carlo apparently might be nicked up. And OEL left the game and seems to be out for a while. Like, how bad are they right now on the blue line that was seen as a sore spot, almost right from the hop this year. Yeah, I think the news is better than what we anticipated as late as yesterday morning. And it sounded like Oliver Ackman-Larsen and Brandon Carlo were trending towards being able to play as the day evolved. So we'll have to wait and see, I don't know, did you guys see the picture, by the way, of Craig Barubia, the head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs?
Starting point is 00:56:05 Okay, you got to scour. It's out there. I don't have any handy. It was posted. Jacko grab it. Yeah, Jacko grab it. You got to see this. You got to see this.
Starting point is 00:56:17 So he's in the gym allegedly yesterday. And I'm going to assume because it had to have been a nasty incident, he dropped a dumbbell or the barbell on his head. He has got a V gash right across the middle of his forehead. And we are talking multiple stitches. to close the wound. His left eye is basically blackened and almost swollen shut. And he's doing media today. It looks like he's been in a car accident. He's like in his game days. Well,
Starting point is 00:56:52 drugs, I would tell people I was at the gym for sure, but what the hell actually happens? Well, you got to, Jack, you got to find this thing because it is, or I'll send it to you. No, he's got it. He's got it. It's borderline outrageous how bad this thing is. Really? Well, okay, he's got a half. He's got a hat on that. The hat helps. That's a shiner. Hold on. Let me see if I can find it here. This is live on the spot stuff here. Rubei, when he played, wasn't afraid of black eyes, but different as a coach, rats.
Starting point is 00:57:23 Yeah. Can you wear a hat on the bench nowadays? I know the dress code is changed. Aurora, yeah, but that isn't out there a game. I got it. See if you can see it. Can you guys see it? Jack's going to.
Starting point is 00:57:34 Jack's pulling it up right. I know. Just give them. Okay. All right. because I'm covering where I go. Look at that! Look at that!
Starting point is 00:57:44 Like that's not a scratch. That's the big, oh, geez. You know, early in the year, he did something like he ran into whatever and Nick the top of, like, his cranium is taking a beating this year. Because he had the divot early in the year. That is serious. But that's a wound. Like, that's, I mean, you know, I'm not making, you know, he's not playing the game. But back in the day, that keeps you out of games for a while.
Starting point is 00:58:11 For a while. But yeah, I mean, he was obviously very, he didn't get into the details of what exactly happened. But, you know, said it was a gym accident. So we can assume something dropped on there. But he'd be in concussion protocol for the next two months if he were a player. Well, we were talking about it. Like, we had the picture of Connie on his introductory press conference.
Starting point is 00:58:37 Like these jobs aren't easy. Like if Connie's been on the job just under three years, it looks like it's been like five days. We're joking it. It was like the Obama thing. Like was he present for 20 years? Look like the older. He looks at the end.
Starting point is 00:58:47 Apparently coached in Toronto, not great for the anti-aging either. No, but to get back to the blue line and what they've got coming. So we'll have to stay posted here on OEL and Brandon. Carlo, Carlo definitely wasn't serious. He'd tweaked something.
Starting point is 00:59:01 And Chris Tannuf, you guys wouldn't be surprised to hear this. I mean, this guy is still grinding away. trying to get healthy enough to return. And it doesn't sound great, but he's just not going to give up. You know, he's just going to keep turning. You applaud him for that?
Starting point is 00:59:16 Or like, pos missiles came back for the flames. And it's been concussion stuff. Fifth concussion. From my understanding. Yeah. Guy like Tanev. And I played an alumni game against Shores.
Starting point is 00:59:27 He's classic class and class. And what I'm getting at is just, you see guys as alumni and you're like, you've got to have some respect for the, fact you have a post career life. Yeah. And I don't know what TANF's injuries are that it's going to affect that so much, but with possible swell and head stuff, you worry about it.
Starting point is 00:59:50 It's like, is anyone in the corner and should they be or do you just applaud guys for trying to get back out there? Should somebody be saying, dude, pumped the break. Yeah, we said to a Tungovoilo with Miami lost your same thing. Like, just retire. You got $100 million. Like your health is most important. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:00:06 Well, for me, it's the doctors. And, you know, is it the second opinions that you get from outside the organization, I guess? Because you can invite all kinds of conspiracy theories. Unfairly, I would submit, you know, if it's the doctor hired and employed by the Toronto Maple Leafs that ultimately makes that call. But at the end, the day, the buck should stop medically in that position. But I think, in red, you probably got to this place. I think it was Larry Murphy told the story way back when of how he knew it was his time to retire. And he basically said when he got to a point where it took him three or four strides to get from the blue line into the corner,
Starting point is 01:00:51 as opposed to in his prime, it would take him two good heavy strides and he'd be there. Like just the quickness. And he just went, ooh, geez, yeah, that's not going to fly to play the game the way I need to play the game. and that was the big red flag to retirement. And sometimes you're fortunate because mother nature, father time takes over and you feel healthy, but you just realize you can't compete at that level anymore. So you walk away.
Starting point is 01:01:19 And in this case, Chris is a warrior, man. He's just one of those guys that he's going to go down swinging, but maybe that's what it's going to take, where doctor says, hey, you need surgery to live out your life. life as healthy as you can. And look, it reminds me of the Alex Petrangelo situation with the Vegas Golden Knights. Yeah, and there are people going, oh, sure, this is just a convenient way for Vegas to get off a contract and do this and do that.
Starting point is 01:01:49 No, this guy wants to be able to play with his children and, you know, get to a healthy place where, geez, if he wants to play golf once a week, that's okay. He can play golf once a week rather than add more and wear and tell. error. And, you know, I guess TANF isn't quite there yet. Last week, you talked about Vegas scooping in on Anderson. I don't think we've gotten your. That's right. You kind of, you foreshadowed that brilliantly. And I guess after long thought, the longer it didn't get done with Boston, the more with your help, we all felt like it was going to be Vegas. Walk us through. Well, so I, I know what happened. And there were multiple teams
Starting point is 01:02:33 that were in on it. And that spiced things up for Craig Conray and the flames. Boston was right there. It feels like the two teams pushing at the end, Boston and Vegas, obviously. I'm told that Kelly McCremant sweetened his offer a little bit. I don't know what it looked like originally, but he sweetened the offer and made it so that it was acceptable even as a rental package. And look, I think the smart money is on the belief. that Rasmus Anderson will sign a contract with the Vegas Golden Knights.
Starting point is 01:03:09 So in this case, it wasn't a sign in trade. And then you go back to the trade breaking on Sunday. And as Craig Conroy acknowledged, you know, the Anderson camp, Claude LeBue, you know, alerting Calgary that, okay, well, at this point, Raspus isn't interested in signing in Boston. He's not interested in signing anywhere. So you have no choice but to move him to a rental. And, you know, because of what I said, Vegas sweetening a little bit, Calgary, knowing that Rasmus Anderson preferred to go to Vegas, it all just kind of fell into place after that.
Starting point is 01:03:45 Yeah. Let's stay with the flames. That's a deal we knew was going to get done. He's a UFA. The questions around the next two months until the deadline are Coleman's got a year left. Nazim Qadry is 35, but we'll turn 36 next year, is three years up till he'll be a 38-year-old at the end of this contract. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:04:05 And atop of that, Zach Whitecloud, would they get back in the Anderson deal, is very attractive, right-shot defenseman at 2.75 a year in a known commodity that's won a cup. We knew they were going to move off the rentals. That's what they always do. But where's the appetite to move off the guys that aren't UFAs this summer? And how would you peg the probability
Starting point is 01:04:27 of a Coleman Cadre or White Cloud deal? Well, I feel like Cadre is more likely than less likely. And I think that that's a combination of things. Nas, as you pointed out, is turning 36. You know, he's chasing that Stanley Cup. You know, if there's an opportunity to go to a cup contending team, then he's all in for that. And he hopes, of course, that in doing that,
Starting point is 01:04:55 he also gives something back by way of return. to the Calgary Flames. He doesn't have full trade protection. So that's going to be the challenge for Craig Conroy to make Nazim Khadry happy. But obviously, his best interest is doing what he has to do as general manager of the Calgary Flames. So for me, that's where I'm paying attention to. Not that I'm overlooking the idea of Coleman or Zach White Cloud. But because the market is still relatively thin at center ice, you know, I do know, I do
Starting point is 01:05:27 though that there is interest in Cadre. Coleman, as we've talked about before, your guys, is complicated. So if you get a decent package for Cadry, if he goes out, you know, I think you tighten up on Blake Coleman because of everything that he brings to the flames. He's phenomenal with the younger guys.
Starting point is 01:05:48 And he's a heck of a hockey player. And he's good in the community. And you need pieces to continue to stay competitive with. So I think it's a premium buy if you're engaging with the flames on Coleman. And White Cloud is interesting to me. Obviously, there's no history in Calgary. But everything that I know based on his time in Vegas is that he's beloved by the fan base. And as Kelly McCriman openly talked about, just a hell of a teammate and an all-round good player and a good piece.
Starting point is 01:06:20 So I can appreciate the interest in White Cloud on the trade front. think that Connie has to consider it based on where Calgary is, but I'm not entirely sold if that's in the best interest moving forward. Okay, last one. Jack and I are off to Jasper. We're going to be surrounded by Oilers honks, and so we need a really educated position. Are the Evanton Oilers a team that nothing matters in the regular season and we'll judge them in the spring, or are they 17th of the NHL struggling at five on five and can't win unless they're two superstars are great? Like, you could make a case. or both, couldn't you? Yeah, you could. And right now it feels like the latter is more applicable,
Starting point is 01:06:59 to be fair. Now you're right, they can flip a switch. And as they've shown in recent history, they can get hot when it matters most in the Stanley Cup playoffs. You know, their goaltending is is now inching towards being more stable to a point where they've got a decision to make, what are they going to do with those three guys? Pierre LeBron talked about the brain trust they're coming out of their scouting meetings last week and talking about the need for a top nine forward. I think that top nine need has been there for what? Years? I mean,
Starting point is 01:07:31 they keep trying to inject these pieces. Trent Frederick, I'm Montyapani. I mean, go down the list. You know, they're trying to find lightning in a bottle and they just haven't been successful in that regard, but you got to keep trying. So, I'm leaning towards
Starting point is 01:07:47 the ladder, but would any of us be surprised if they go deep again? No, no. I'm more intrigued not to shift gears on you guys, but, you know, as to what some of the outlier teams are doing, like Utah and Seattle. And I talked about this on an insider trading last night. You know, Seattle is, is huge into adding a top three winger or a top six winger. Okay, what are you giving up to get a piece like that? And they feel like they've got strength up the middle of the ice. And that's
Starting point is 01:08:19 why there has been speculation around Shane Wright. I mean, this kid was drafted fourth overall in 2002. And until the Montreal Canadiens made that pick and went with Girozlopkowski, there were many who thought that Shane Wright was going first overall. But, you know, he's not thrilled with his ice allocation. You know, it's the age old story. Play better. You'll get more ice.
Starting point is 01:08:41 All right. Well, play me more and I'll play better. Like that's kind of where they're at. It's a fixable relationship. But I know that Jason Botterl is at least listening on Shane Wright. I think he's, there's got to be a big audience for that kid, wouldn't you think? I mean, it's weird. He was the presumptive one.
Starting point is 01:09:04 And then as we got closer and closer to the draft, it was like, well, hang on. All those kids missed the year. And it was the COVID one. And some of these other guys actually played. I think Shane Wright got zero games in the old that year because they never got started. Like I feel for the kid because it feels like that was a huge developmental year that just got deleted. And the ceiling, we thought that this player that could have on one head, we haven't seen it yet. No, we haven't.
Starting point is 01:09:25 And you got to worry if your management in Seattle, no different in some speculation. I'm reading in other markets, Winnipeg included like I think of Logan Stanley and I thought I saw Cole Perfetti's name out there somewhere. Well, that's great. If you're getting back exactly what you need moving forward, if you don't and those kids pop with a new start and a new situation,
Starting point is 01:09:48 well, that's when the owners get grumpy and going, okay, wait a minute here. now we're seeing this kid or that kid or whatever develop and take off with a fresh start. Why did that happen? What did we miss in all of this? And that's why being a general manager sucks. That's why they get the big bucks, you know, making calls when you're talking about, you know, first round draft picks, I think of, you know, right fourth overall, perfetti, 10th overall.
Starting point is 01:10:13 And again, at this point, it's all speculation. And teams are calling, which is why we're talking about it. But you can also appreciate why the GMs are even engaged. aging in those conversations. It's just through pure necessity to make their own team better. Aside from the one off against Colorado in round one in year two, it feels like Seattle really needs, if they're close, to get in to make it. Not that their season ticket fan is in trouble.
Starting point is 01:10:38 Like they had 20,000 person wait list or whatever, but they need some tangible success there. And I think even more so in Utah where they're just acquiring young assets forever in Arizona. And now this new owner is like, I got you your practice facility. I've renovated the rink to the tune of tens of millions of dollars. We want to win now. It feels like those are the two owner president GM groups where it's like they're ready to push. Absolutely. You nailed it.
Starting point is 01:11:02 And I couldn't describe it better than you just did. And that's why there's an element of pressure that goes along with that from a manager's perspective, too. You know, Utah is fascinating to me. I mean, that's a good young lineup. And you can see with some ads, you know, I don't know. I don't think that they're quite ready yet to. go up against the big boys. And I might say the same in the Seattle Cracken,
Starting point is 01:11:25 although there's more balancing experience, in my opinion, in Seattle. But Ryan Smith in Utah, he has thrown everything he's got. You know, and making that organization as viable and as comfortable as it can be. You know, almost comparing against the best of the best and creature comforts and all of those things.
Starting point is 01:11:47 So if you're Bill Armstrong, you head of hockey operations, for the Utah mammoth, you better make sure that every stone has been overturned in trying to utilize the assets you have to give your hockey club the best chance for a success. And if they make the playoffs, man, that'd be a great story there.
Starting point is 01:12:08 And maybe that would be enough for ownership in Utah to go, okay, job well done. Great stuff. Would you keep you forever? Have a great weekend. Stay warm. We always appreciate your chance. Gosh, get off the ice.
Starting point is 01:12:18 Don't get your vehicle. I know, I know. I'm just locking in. I'm not going anywhere this weekend. Too cold to move. Get those tickets sorted out. I'd advise you to go to the game today. I feel like we're going to get some fireworks with Marner coming back.
Starting point is 01:12:31 I hope so. Yeah, you know what? I had a mental reprieve and talking with you guys. And now I'm pissed off again because I have to let this nonsense. Thanks, buddy. That is the worst, isn't it? I don't know. I've tried the road passage.
Starting point is 01:12:47 I've locked out. Oh, it's going to know. The Caps lock was on. Damn it. Oh, the Caps lock. Caps lock will get you. It'll get you. Go to this reset link.
Starting point is 01:12:58 It's not, it's in my junk mail. I can't get email on my phone. So if they email me and updated anything, well, now I've got to get to a computer. It's a great excuse for a guy like you. You really can't be killed a handle or held account. No email. Why would you do that to me?
Starting point is 01:13:15 Somebody email update the thing. Stupid. There's going to be a lot of booze tonight. I think that'll be a fun game. Marlare, Toronto. Vegas is rolling. Stone just set the franchise record for point streak. There's no way the Leafs are a better team.
Starting point is 01:13:33 So maybe the Dunleafs fans should realize that. Wait a minute. We ran this guy out of town. And they did, you know. I talked to a guy last night. You got to do the good Crystal Waters read. But I talked to a guy last night from that area. And he's like, I think they're, these are my words, not his.
Starting point is 01:13:49 but post apex. I'd agree. It's hard to look at that roster and be like, where is this building? Like look at the age, older, look at the star count, lower, look at the injuries,
Starting point is 01:14:00 higher, like it's really tough to see a way out of this. And if you were sitting on a huge pile of prospects and picks like some teams are, okay, we'll just go trade. They burnt a ton of assets to go get guys that are just okay and Brandon Carlo and Scott Lawton.
Starting point is 01:14:14 Not bad players, but bottom half of the roster guys, two first, two top prospects, specs, that's tough. Wow. And if you want to move anyone who are you moving, your top guys again,
Starting point is 01:14:25 they're, yeah, if you traded Austin Matthews, you'd get a lot back, but you don't have Austin Matthews. You're going to want those firsts that are going to be real high all of a sudden that you'd give them away. Thank you to Crystal Waters.
Starting point is 01:14:37 That is the insider hotline. As always, Noodles Midweek, and Darren Dregor. He called it last week. Because they're not crazy kind of, because we always knew Vegas to be lurking, but he just said,
Starting point is 01:14:47 look, guys, do not write off Vegas. never read off Vegas. This seems to be the lesson in the last five years. Vegas gets what they want. Hot chick at the bar. The hot lady. Hot lady at the bar.
Starting point is 01:14:59 Crystal Waters will be the hot chick at the bar if your furnace is working this morning. Very attracted to Crystal Waters come over. Crystal. Here's the thing. You got great deals going on right now. Furnaces, tell them you're a Barney. They can do some things. Hot water tanks, upgraded 10-year parts warranty.
Starting point is 01:15:16 You're preventing a maintenance. If you're in trouble, all you got to remember, Remember, crystal waters, crystal clear Calgary.com. Give them a call, 403, 219, 4100. Crystal Waters, plumbing and heating is your crystal clear choice for home comfort. Drag is great. Sorry about those tickets. He'll figure it out.
Starting point is 01:15:39 I feel like at the end of the day, he doesn't want to play the Trump card, but, Hey, Tree or Hey Keith Pelly or whoever is running the, any issue. He's going to get it sorted. He just doesn't want to have to make that call. supposed to be simple. That's the challenge, yeah. Weird how you call the monopoly and they don't have someone on the other side
Starting point is 01:16:00 so I'll help you right away. Yeah, weird. Yeah, we're ticket master. That's the lease issue. You have the tickets. This is the ticket website. Your system. Back to the Pender Report. We showed you the bottom 10. Let's get to the results from last night. We told you, Vegas
Starting point is 01:16:16 hit the snooze button or maybe a trap game looking ahead to the big Martyr matchup in Toronto. they made it close at the end, but Boston was all over them early. The Zaddog, Nikitas and Thorough, had a hell of a setup for Pasternak.
Starting point is 01:16:31 Lindholm scored. Past is having a monster year. Big win for the Sabers. Jack, you got to get nervous. Sabers, Habs. That's our bet. They're two points back. Two.
Starting point is 01:16:42 And who's rolling the last month and a half? I don't know that anyone's been better than Buffalo since, like, early December. Oh, no way. Maybe Colorado? I think Tampa's the only team. Tampa, Colorado Buffalo, like those have been the best teams in the league for the last couple months.
Starting point is 01:16:56 I'll bet you Buffalo's record as good as Colorado's. I think you're probably right. Colorado set some losses here, yeah? I saw it yesterday. Tampa's the top and then it's above. Wow. Chicago beats Carolina in the shootout. Thank you.
Starting point is 01:17:08 Good work at the bottom of the standings. Good work, Baddard. Shutout for Jet Greaves. That's a big win for Columbus. Bones. Another nice. We'll take all the Columbus wins we can get. That's good stuff.
Starting point is 01:17:19 He has suffered only one loss since coming in as that coach. Sends were in this one. They blew a 3-0 lead. Their last three games, they've had big leads and all of them. They can't get a safe. Hmm. A lot of trouble there. That was the team supposed to be ascending.
Starting point is 01:17:37 They're in the bottom 10. And they've done this a few times where they've had leads and they're playing good. Mm-hmm. And goalie. Florida gets a win. That was an obvious under Hellebuck. And the Jets, they're trying. They got a point there.
Starting point is 01:17:54 They've been grinding out points, but they need some wins. If they want to get out of that big hole, they dug themselves in the first third of the season. Penguin Shalak, the Oilers, you talked about that. That was a pantsing. And the Quintasota Wild,
Starting point is 01:18:07 Quinn Hughes, another three-assist night, his fourth since joining the Wild. Fourth? You just got there, it feels like. It'd be a dozen games. That was a big one. They actually, I think,
Starting point is 01:18:20 trailed Detroit, and got a late one. Quinn dropped it off at the blue line. Caprizov did the rest in OT. Great finish. That'd be a fun place to go see a game right. Yeah, I think it would. Because I think for like a lot of time in their franchises history,
Starting point is 01:18:34 it's been Dulzville. That's a fun team right now. Quinn Hughes, Caprizo. Good stuff. Okay, keep moving. We've got a few more milestones to talk about in the NHL. Roman Yossi played game number 1,000. That's good.
Starting point is 01:18:50 he'll be at the Olympics playing for team sweet Switzerland close SW he's very good he'll be captain of the team I'm gonna a shirt and tie under this just sure I don't know what's like a college does look like is he got a sermon
Starting point is 01:19:06 is he baptizing children at the intermission yeah interesting congrats uh we told you about Quinn here's a little more on Hughes he is uh just arrived in minnesota what 20 games ago how you like 22 points is the defenseman. Wow.
Starting point is 01:19:21 Only defensemen that's moved and done better in their first 20 games, Paul Coffey when he went from Edmonton to Pittsburgh. I can't believe it's 20 games. That's kind of gone fast too. It has. Now that I think about it, I was up with that in Edmonton.
Starting point is 01:19:34 He's a good player. He was at the Hippotank the night before that deal, I think. And look at that, Phil Housley. Paul Coffey. Beyond that list twice is impressive. Now, he did go Edmonton to Pittsburgh or was there a stop in the middle? Was he in L.A.?
Starting point is 01:19:49 I remember where Connellie? I can look it up. The nerds this weekend will know. We'll let you know on Monday. And Dick Tarunstrom. There you are, Jack. There's a penguin on there, two of them. Zubov and Tarnstrom.
Starting point is 01:20:00 Dick. Dickie. Three penguins. Three. One. Geez. Two. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:20:06 That's a handle. Dick Tarnstrom. We'll keep moving. Steven Stamco's 16th career hat trick. And look at the royalty he's moving into in the power play goal column. Dave Andrew Chuck is second all time. unbelievable. And obviously Ovi, the leading goal score of all time, but when you think of Ovi, you think
Starting point is 01:20:25 of the one-time run the power play, he's, feels like he's lapping the field there. Holy. Hull, of course, Salani, yeah, Robitae, okay, Esposito, and all of a sudden, Stammer. Like, he's going to pass Mario and Brendan Shanahan this year, isn't he? Two back of Shanahan, one back of the Mew. Good company. Keep moving. You'll like this, Rhett. Last night, Trevor Zegra's post game was asked.
Starting point is 01:20:50 about the Flyers game. He said there was something they had to survive early and then they were fine. The Bongo anthem threw us off a little bit in the first but once we recovered from that, we were back to our game, which was good. Please welcome nine-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps and former national recording artist, Staff Sergeant Bruce Gustavangar. But so bowly behave. Pretty good. Bongo Anthem. He's great at bonguing.
Starting point is 01:21:37 And they serve for the country, and it's in Nashville. If there's one place you can pull this off. That will throw you off, just like Zegra said. Yeah. Too much sun in California and too much bongos in Nashville, but they survived. That's just awesome. Everyone needs a hobby. Jack, if you're not going to read, Boggos.
Starting point is 01:21:58 Kangas. Do you remember the J's manager who had them in his office? office. Oh, yeah. Charlie. This is the, they're going to suck for a few years, vibes coach. Okay, got it. Game of the night, by a mile. Mitch Marner back in Toronto, quote, I don't want to look back anymore. I don't want to look in the past, end quote.
Starting point is 01:22:19 Good luck with that. Everyone in the building will be looking back and looking in the past. Until you think. Here's more on the game. This will be. get a lot of eyeballs. This is coast to coast. Jack, you and I are going to catch this if the flames are a little little. They're going to boo
Starting point is 01:22:39 the ass out of the sky. It's a turn time, so you'll be fine. Yeah. Well, we might have to be on the ice, but we'll catch at least be rude. And finally, the other action from tonight around the league, we'll saunt you through. Do we want to play the game with or without boom here? No. No, we don't. Okay. It's the Marner Bowl, obviously. It's the
Starting point is 01:22:55 Brennan Hagel Bowl, St. Louis, Dallas, uh, Ought. St. Lillie, Colorado. Oh, Sean Potein. Excellent. Well done there. Caps Flames. That's the Glencross Bowl. And Japanie. Good too. Devils and that's the Corey Schneider Bowl. Quinn Hughes. Oh, no. Not yet.
Starting point is 01:23:17 Very good. Very good. Ranges Sharks. That's the Barclay Goodrow Bowl. They put them on waivers. Ooh, this would be tough. And Anahun, Seattle is going to be tough. Skip. Jack, that's the one you haven't contributed yet. Who did they take an expansion draft? They'd take some dummy off the ducks. Who would it have been?
Starting point is 01:23:40 And we're out of time. We'll keep moving. Thanks, Jack. No idea. Rett, try not to vomit. This is a little bit weird, and you might feel dizzy after reading it. The Buffalo Bills are bringing in
Starting point is 01:23:50 for a head coaching interview. Phil Rivers. Hmm. Now, if Marty St. Louis can be coaching 14-year-olds and do what he's done for the house. Philip Rivers coaching high school football. He would be very knowledgeable. I think he'd be, what is he well, he'd be well respected.
Starting point is 01:24:12 Daggummit, I think you gotta do it. I, I would like someone with a little more. Can we get him some experience track record, but. Great offensive mind. We'll see. We'll see. Lots of games this weekend. We'll look at the odds. They have not changed all week. It's still four and a half. England is favored on the road in Denver. It is still two and a half points.
Starting point is 01:24:36 Seattle is favored home against the Rams. Here's a little stat you don't necessarily know. Four and oh all time in the playoffs against the Pats or the Broncos. Stidham knows that. Does Drake May knows? It's going to find out. He's about to find out. That's right.
Starting point is 01:24:55 The other game is Seattle, L.A. Super Bowl two weeks away. Okay. There it is. Could be a good game. Have fun. Only three football games left, Jack. We'll try to make sure you can catch both these this weekend.
Starting point is 01:25:08 Deal. Come on, hook them up. Deal. Deal. Can we end the Pinda Report on Rett's shootout move again? Because it was the highlight of the day. It's a big. It's a, you need a kicker on Friday.
Starting point is 01:25:20 It's not that good because it didn't score. No, it is that good because you slammed a beer and tried to pull off the Forest Bird with no helmet. It was epic. Back to the dome last night for our play of the week, for our friends at Village Honda. a there's a young that's it I said on the way I said I will never be on this ice
Starting point is 01:25:36 surface again you're done that's it really they're gonna come back next year you're the star of the show I didn't cron I had the fake right there you did the fake and you have I agreed because he thought I was shooting there's no way this duster's gonna make a move I hear the yeah daddy
Starting point is 01:26:07 that's not my kid well I'm wondering let's see it again Maybe you waited until marriage. Maybe you do have a few other kids in the same. Who knows? That's your pen report on this Friday, January 23rd. Village Honda, the new prelude.
Starting point is 01:26:32 Reimagined. It's coming back. More information on the website, village honda.com. Or just head up to the Northwest Autumn. I'll say hello to the great people. It's your dealership for life, Village Honda. So you're getting updates last night, Chuck.
Starting point is 01:26:46 Yeah, on our Instagram. There's people tagging me and some stories. You were getting photos, people taking photos you on the ice. I saw some dusters with your jersey on the JumboTron. Chugging a beer? Yeah. Yeah, that was my nephew. Was that your nephew?
Starting point is 01:27:01 Thanks for getting those for the show, Jack. That's awesome. Do you have that video? He wants to see it if you have it since. I don't know. I was trying to get it. It's a story. I don't know how to hold it from.
Starting point is 01:27:12 You and drag your tech issues, eh? I don't know, it's just a picture. Well, that's right? Well, let's wrap this up. You guys got to get on the road. We got to get on the road. You got a big weekend ahead. I do want to ask you, because it's Friday and you love your meat, what are you doing if you're heading to Bon Ton today to get locked in for the weekend?
Starting point is 01:27:28 I'm going to let Jack down. I'm going to get some New York strips. And I am going to get some New York strips. And actually, now that I'm talking about it, I will also get a carton of potato salad. And I don't care if Greg likes me mentioning it or not. I'm doing it. What am I going to do? lie.
Starting point is 01:27:45 He's the star of the game last night. Greg, I want to have the guy and some potato salad. I say it all the time, but I haven't had it for a while. Those beef ribs, I'm going to grab a couple
Starting point is 01:27:53 and I'm going to sauce up my truck on the way home. I'm going to eat them immediately. And it's going to be everywhere. And I don't care. Just eat those on the way to one of those full service car washes. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:28:06 I have a shower there. Windows down to the car wash. Detailing. Get some detailing done. Proud to be Calgary and Southern Alberta's Consumer Choice Award winners, not once, not twice, best meat market in Delhi for 24 consecutive years. It's a dynasty of dynasties.
Starting point is 01:28:28 It's like the bloody Harlem globetrotters of meat markets. Bontan meat market 28, Crowfoot Circle in the Northwest, just the best. Get up there and, oh, low the fraser. Gets lots of 80s, baby backs. some snossages. Boom. These boys.
Starting point is 01:28:50 Look at these. That is a lot of Warner jerseys. There were a few. Which ones are that? That guy with his looking at your front and center. Double fist. Yeah. Awesome.
Starting point is 01:29:03 Pilot. Oh, my God. That is awesome. They're proud of the old men. Look at the score. You guys are running it up on Shores. Yeah. Take that, Shorsi.
Starting point is 01:29:12 That might be the best team in the no-show. but the Flames alumni mop the mop. Again, it would have been closer, but Croner was unbelievable. That is so awesome. Well done, right. We're proud of you. You were nervous. You nailed it.
Starting point is 01:29:26 Totally. You're a performer. God, you're good, eh? You ever catch a mirror? Sometimes you're walking out of the house. Yeah, that's what it's, maybe a storefront and the sun's just to reflect their right? Yeah. God, I'm killing this.
Starting point is 01:29:39 God am I good. You check yourself out. There's a good reflection. Man, am I good? It was a ton of fun, actually. I haven't played a game in a long time. Got the itch. And you said you're sore,
Starting point is 01:29:52 aside from the pulling of the groin. My body feels like what, he was talking about Murphy saying four strides. I'm like, it's eight for me last night to get to the court. Eight strides. No equipment. Who is Harvey Trier? There's always,
Starting point is 01:30:07 because Gratz is kind of that guy sometimes. No, he was good. Okay. You know what the thing is with the alumni is that everyone's good enough. They don't have to. Right. really for it. Yeah. Even the veteran guys
Starting point is 01:30:19 are smart and off hockey guys to go, okay, well, I can't skate as fast as I used to, so I'm going to do this smart thing. I played against Flings alum once, and it was just not fair, because it's like, you can see they're just, everything's half speed. You're like, I'll just get right in there.
Starting point is 01:30:35 And then it's like, tape, tape, odd numbers. I'm that being the best F1 I could be. Theo, didn't even sweat. Awesome ovation. Was good for Theo. That's good. Good stuff. Golf's kind of having a moment right now.
Starting point is 01:30:52 I'm reading this. Apparently, this sport that used to be so buttoned up and prissy, turning into something way more cultural. You're seeing athletes from all kinds of pro sports getting into golf, basketball players, hockey players. So ball players. Big topic of conversation beside me, Kami and Kami loves that. You're talking golf, all these courses.
Starting point is 01:31:14 If you get Korn Kov, if you get Korn, me talking about hockey. It's like, okay, he's got some good stories. You talk about golf. You can just see the excitement. Even surfers now using golf as competitive outlet, way to hang out, enjoy competing differently. And that shift is exactly where Hurley with level where collaboration comes in. We're talking laid back board sports energy, but comfortable Hawaiian coastal prints rooted in lifestyle, relaxation, being expressive. It's like golf. golf meets cool. I love it. Levelware takes that inspiration, brings it to life through performance driven, sustainably made apparel that's actually built to move and play. And the result
Starting point is 01:31:54 is the Fairwaves Collection, modern golf silhouettes that feel lighter, more wearable, less rigid. It's respectful of the game's routes, but definitely not stuck in tradition. The collection is live and available on Levelware's website to go shop. Check it out. Levelware.com. Check out the polos, hoodies, hats, casuals. Feel this right here. We feel that fabric. How come you got some? Apparently, I'm an influencer, right?
Starting point is 01:32:21 Michael. Is that not cozy? Like, oh, boy. It's probably perfect for today. I was going to give it to you, but it's regular-sized arms. Oh, gee, but fit. Just cut it off. I could go.
Starting point is 01:32:33 Yeah. Loveware.com for more. Great stuff. Thanks for the gear. It's comfy as home. Love it. Does feel good. Turn it into a bellocack.
Starting point is 01:32:41 I'll just cut the sleeves. That's the only way that's going to fit you. But you could do that. That's so good. If you came to Jasper, I'd do that for you. No. Last chance? No.
Starting point is 01:32:49 Still like going. Okay. Got it. Let's get to our bets. Bet 365. Never ordinary. Hey, you know what I like to do? What's the game of the night?
Starting point is 01:32:57 What am I going to be watching? How do I spice it up? Huh. You can do that with player props, game lines, the puck line, futures. We got a little futures bet today. Jack's going to love. And tonight, the game of the night is without question. Marners return to Toronto.
Starting point is 01:33:12 Let's hit. the martyr parley. Two shots and a point. Almost even money. And look at the top one. Jack, read it out for me. Dan, the man, Muce, Danny Boy, coach of the year plus 2,800. If they make the playoffs, Red. 2800. And they might. 28 to 1. I kind of got another little hedge on this sort of an angle. The Jack out does not go to the best team nor the best coach. It's the guy who shatters expectations wins this award almost every. year. This guy would be. This is the guy. Maybe Cuenville, but the ducks are cooled off. Okay, Bednar in Colorado, but we all
Starting point is 01:33:50 knew Colorado was good. This is the Dan Musa War. This is. I like the bet. 28 to 1. I like that. That's a good bet. Good. And the Marner one, it's going to be on. It should be fun. 507 mountain time. You know, Mitchie's going to be fired up and they'll are going to be trying to shut them down, but who? Exactly. About. battered and bruised leaves decor. Exactly. Exactly. Those are my bets that only to be yours.
Starting point is 01:34:17 You like the Dan Muse. I thought you'd like that. I like the Dan news. A sprinkle on that, Jack, man. I don't know who else would be in the rub. Yeah, who was in front of him? Do you remember? Randy Ralph.
Starting point is 01:34:26 He's not even close to the top, which is crazy. And sometimes you'll find little inefficiencies in these markets. Like, they don't know. If they lost back to back Calgary Eminton, I feel like his odds are lower. That's two wins in markets that have votes against opponents where you thoroughly showed you were the better team, especially in Emmeton, like, get on this before it drops. That number's going to be a lot less pretty quick. They keep playing this way.
Starting point is 01:34:49 They get in. He's getting votes. They got Vancouver next. Easy. Easy win. Blackhawks, Rangers, sends out of sabers before the break. All right. Thank you, Jack.
Starting point is 01:35:02 Those are our bets for our great friends at Bet365. Really excited to meet up with the peeps from Bet365. We got one on our team. Bit of a rigger. Timberts. I want to embarrass. We're going to just don't lose to Edmondson and we're in. That's it.
Starting point is 01:35:18 One objective for the weekend. It's a good point. Don't lose to the hongs. There's one victory you have to have. Flames have 37 games left just beat the Oilers. The rest. Give us a good try. Only one you have to win.
Starting point is 01:35:31 Super chats. It's headed, Jack. Pwee, play, play, play, play. The super chat money goes to the youth centers of Calgary. Great people in our city at the two youth centers helping youth. with a safe place to go, a place where they get great mentorship, healthy snacks, they can work on activities, life skills. And yeah, enjoy being a kid with maybe a little less stress
Starting point is 01:35:51 than perhaps there'd be otherwise or a lot less. Let's start with Robert Hawkins. Time for McDavid to go home to Toronto when Eminton gets put out in the first round this year by Anaheim. Robert, I could only get so excited. Settled out. He leaves and they lose to Anaheim and they lose to Anaheim. the first round.
Starting point is 01:36:16 Dreger didn't really give them big vote of confidence, did he? How do you? You can't. But he could have said, I don't worry about this group. They always crank it up in the spring. That wasn't his answer. He gives reality answers. I like his take.
Starting point is 01:36:32 I like it. Or maybe he's playing up to the crowd. Earlier in the days on Edmont, he wouldn't do that. No, that's not, that's not Drex's style. Thank you, Robert, $6.99 for the kids. boom's not here, so I've got to say it like that, right? J. Dahl Music, can RedExplan's shift in mindset? Connie has had since we know he tried trading up to get Teage at the draft.
Starting point is 01:36:55 How do we know that? I don't know that. I think they probably like Teage, but again, maybe the Egan LaFalley preferred him, not being in Iggy's shadow and God. I honestly have no inside information. My opinion would be that Jerome wouldn't want Teage to be here. That's up to Teage as well. And I don't, I never heard they were trying to trade up to get Teage at the draft.
Starting point is 01:37:18 I thought that Teage was in that window of he might not get drafted that high, but then he kept getting better. It was like the beginning of the year. It was like, it's probably second round and then he starts the year and like, end of the first round and the midseason, like, this kid's going to go really high. And then at the end of the year, it's like, he might not be on the board when the flames pick at night. Yeah, like, what was it? Six. I think he wanted, yeah, six or seven to Utah. Like that was high. did Berkeley Cat and Kid
Starting point is 01:37:43 went to Seattle rate ahead. There's like, man, he's not going to get to Calgary. Is what it is. Go be a stud tage and then come here in free agency. Flip the script. Connie doesn't tell me anything, so I can't explain that either shifts or mindsets or. Anyone else telling you anything yesterday at the dome?
Starting point is 01:38:00 I know a lot of great. Nothing to talk about there. Nothing talking about there. Great. Burning takes with Thomas. Tommy. 30-9-9-9. We debate all day about Zane's ideal partner,
Starting point is 01:38:11 but what about who would benefit from playing with him? Maybe playing with Zane could help Weger turn his seasoner out. I want to ask drags and I'll do it next week because I didn't want to drag it out. Is Weiger a commodity that would be considered or valuable around? Yeah, who's doing who the favor? Yeah. Is that a coveted asset or people saying, I want to see a bounce back first? Good question.
Starting point is 01:38:37 Next week. We promised to try to remember that for next week. Thomas, I'm kind of with you, but I don't know that I like that pair. Uighur is sort of more of the high risk reward. I'd like to see the stabilizing force. Ball with Perrek, I would love to see him. I'm not saying it's going to work. That's the one I'm clamoring for at some point this year.
Starting point is 01:38:57 Got to play with someone. Like you got white cloud with ball. Has he been playing with the Wranglers? Have they played a game or do they just send him around and not playing? He was mad once and I haven't seen the rest since. I imagine there'll be a couple of games this weekend. Don't be mad. go be Zane.
Starting point is 01:39:13 Don't be mad. V-V-V-V-V-V-V-V-V-V. Retro, I saw those silky myths in the shootout. Don't be surprised if you get a call-up to the Domo-Poho-Bolo-Bolony Rebiggle roller coaster. Nothing like experience, baby! Hashtag Retro Rebiggle. Have they called you?
Starting point is 01:39:31 I had to overcome a lot of nerves. I don't think the Domo Po-ho was calling retro. A lot of right shots. It's not your phone. No, it's fair. I can't switch in. It's too late. It's too late.
Starting point is 01:39:41 And, you know, like Pahal, Parak, Brecht, Westevich, White Cloud, they're stacked on the right. You would have the call already. Thanks for the 10 bucks for the kids. Preach. Preach. Prish.
Starting point is 01:39:53 JP 1170. Feltz. 699. I got to call you. You want to do it? No, I'm just. Okay. I got to call you out on the Goldhorn.
Starting point is 01:40:01 Calgary is easily lead. Calgary, Chicago, Dallas, Buffalo, Nashville, Nashville, the Holy Grails of horns. That's good company for it. It's not a bad horn. I would take it to the new building personally, but I would put Chicago, Dallas, and Buffalo specifically in a separate class.
Starting point is 01:40:15 Those are elite horns. Yeah, it's not elite. It might be in the 5 to 12 range. I'd accept that, but it's not with those top three. It's above halfway for sure, but it's definitely a good horn. It's not elite. If you're in Nashville, you're not mentioning. Oh, man, if it was only as good as the flames.
Starting point is 01:40:37 Chicago, Buffalo. Buffalo, to hear that horn in the spring this year, playoffs. Oh, we gotta go to Buffalo. It will be wild. Thank you, JP. Thanks for the kids, from the kids. Last one.
Starting point is 01:40:49 Here we go. Jack AC, G.I.7R. P. 279. Rett, give it a reaperie. Boilers suck. And they sure do, Jack. They sure do. It's a good time to go to Jasmine.
Starting point is 01:41:05 Those honks are going to be beside themselves. I can't just, I don't think there's ever a good time to hang with spoilers fans ever. If they're riding a 10 gamer. But now they'll have to break it down for you and explain how they're going to turn it around and how it's not anybody's fault, but it's going to bring in Panarin and then Crosby's going to wave and get out of.
Starting point is 01:41:26 Tankathon and get out of here? Sure. Those idiots play tomorrow. What's the... Washington, I think. Oh, Washington, right. Yeah. They're catching everyone after Calder.
Starting point is 01:41:35 And they haven't done as well as you'd think. Hedberg handled them last night. So we go to the Tankathon to close the show the Cowderick Flames have the third best odds of winning the draft lottery. That said it's only 11 and a half percent. Twice this week, we've seen the Flames pick in the two hole at a nice
Starting point is 01:41:51 weaker results. Thank you, Winnipeg for passing the Flames last night. And we'll give it a spin and see where the flames pick through the Tankathon lottery simulator. Heaven. Dropped one to four. But Ottawa loses the deck.
Starting point is 01:42:08 Ottawa lost their pick. Flames pick third. That's so weird. It's the craziest thing ever that they're actually, because of Dadenov's trade list, they're at first. Yeah, that feels like Kelly McCriman. He's mad. He needed some blood. St. Louis would pick first.
Starting point is 01:42:28 Vancouver second, Calgary third. That would guarantee you one of the big three, if you view it that way, you'd also have your shot at the best center in the draft. Tyn and Lawrence or Caleb Mulchard, whichever you prefer. We'll take it. Good spot to be, third overall. I'll take it. Jack, how was the show today? Good. Wait, so if you have the 33rd pick, you technically have a second first rounder.
Starting point is 01:42:48 Technically, you are correct. That happened in the NFL. Who was banned a pick? I feel like it was Miami for the coaching thing. What do they tamper? Well, that coach is terrible. They should take. The guy that came in and looked like a nerd. No, not him, Flores.
Starting point is 01:43:04 That guy's in charge of years now. He's apparently interviewed with the bills as well. Don't get that. Hey, you just hired you as an offensive coordinator. Yeah, I'm going to go. go to a head coaching chat with the bills. What? We just hire you.
Starting point is 01:43:17 How was the show today? Very good. I'm very excited to get out of here and get on the road and get that drive over with Jack. Rhett, ice the groin. Make sure it's taken care of lots of hands on drugs. Fluids and treat it well. Good luck.
Starting point is 01:43:35 We'll need it. See you, buddies.
