I have concerns over what we're watching in the Western Conference Final. And you know what? Let's go back even a couple of games into the conference semi-final. And it's not just that the Oilers

won all three of those games. It's the manner in which they've won them, gentlemen. Yeah. That has me a little bit concerned that they've maybe figured some shit out. I think they've had good goal tend to for five games here right too. Stuart Skinner was awesome last night. He was great. Especially early.

You had the breakaway chance. There's now listen, they hit a couple posts in that four minute man advantage. It wasn't like watching Game 7 with Vancouver that did nothing on their double minor. But yeah, if they're going to get 925 Skinner, it's over.

It's more than that, man. It was very good. Their penalty kill goes five for five. They're limiting shots. They're blocking shots. This is not the Oilers that were used to. The calling card of the Oilers that we love, our favorite

Oilers are the guys, hey, defense be damn. Let's win this thing, 7, 6. If you got any points? Okay, well, let's get you a point this year. Who's got points? Points, points. That's how they lived life. This is a different, retro. They had a look Yeah, they had a look about them that they knew how to play.

They knew what they needed to do. They had control. It wasn't wishy-washy. They didn't do it for a while and then forget how. I'm with you. There should be some consternation and concern from anyone not wearing blue and orange. They beat L.A. It's, what, 1-0 or 2-1 in one of those games in round 1, and they're like, that's new.

And it was because they haven't been able to win those low scoring affairs. My point's just like, look, if there's one leaky goal, Dallas wins that game. It's that simple. And so if they are going to be good defensively, you know they have the game breakers that Dallas doesn't. They don't have a dry saddle or McDavid or a Bushart even the way he's playing. Yeah, if your goal is going to be good, they've got everything. They have been pretty good defensively the last three to five games. Because we said going into game one, now things could change.

It's one game. We always over yet. It's an inch. But it was, the thing was, they're not going to be able to limit Dallas. Vancouver got 18 shots. You're not going to do that to Dallas. They kind of did that to Dallas for a good chunk of that.

I mean, you get into double overtime and those shots are going to start to ratchet up. But all three of their goals come five on five and against the TANV pairing. You have home, you've got last change. And you wanted Tanev and Lindell out there. And they were out there. there for all of the goals, including, including the game winner, where, um, that you do, I would think, right, you've probably been there where you're a defenseman, you're behind the net, you're battling for a puck, and you just kind of do a quick shoulder check,

and you see your D partner standing beside you? Oh, oh, shit. Um, then who's in front of the net? Oh, Mick David. That's who's in front of the net. Game over. Um, I mean, it's, it is.

I can't decide if it's a fall asleep or try to do too much. I don't know. But it's also, you know what it is? It's how thin the margin can be sometimes. You make a mistake. It's in double overtime. It's in the back of your net. I think Dallas has more to give.

I think they kind of have that. You know, whatever, rest, rust. I think we saw it with Florida in the Boston series. I think we've seen it throw out the playoffs and we do every year. I think Dallas will be better in game two. I think even by the time the end of the second, third period rolled around, they started to get their their feet moving a little bit.

Can I get there for a second? What I noticed, they finally scored on it when they kind of threw it after that. Datanav made, I don't know if you meant to tip it to Sagan, but if he did, beauty play. But the point I was getting at was they didn't have a ton of shots and they had zone time with the puck

and I'm talking about dolls, but they weren't throwing pucks at the net. And if I'm at the opposite, if I'm playing against Edmonton, that's exactly would I do it. I want to make their D kind of spin and turn and find things because I don't think that's their strength.

I don't, maybe I'm crazy, but it seems to me they have chances and Edmontons doing a better job of blocking shots, so give them that, but that just means get more pucks to the net. Like, not less. That's what I was thinking too, because they did

it to Vancouver. Is it that the teams aren't putting pucks on net or that the oilers are keeping that they are? that they're committed like we've not seen them to keeping plays to the outside, to blocking those shots. So when you continually get shots blocked, now you're trying to, well, we've got to change things. You're trying to become a little bit more creative if you're the stars of the offense.

And next thing, you know, they, they were just real good. And they've been real good for a little bit. That penalty killed 33 of 36 is where they're in case at. To get the zone, gain the zone against them seems incredibly difficult. And I think Dallas started to figure out if you can't make two passes very quickly, they're all over. Because they just, they go two or three guys to. They've just said, yeah, they've said, like we're just going to sell out for the puck. Yeah.

And so if you beat us. You can't make two crisp passes, you're dead. I agree with you there, Ryan, where they're just saying, if you can move it, make three or four really good passes in a row and move it quick, yeah, okay, you might get a chance. But we're going to, we're going to play the odds that you can't do it. We're going to put pressure on that puck, and they've been successful with it. it's it's working i don't know but hockey's always close but

frick quarter of an inch one way or the other and we're talking about a different story yeah yeah two posts so how did can they do it for a full series can they do it for seven more wins i think it's going to be a series either way whatever they're playing controlled hockey i don't know what it looks like and again i'm thinking maybe you've seen it in your career with. We've probably seen it over time. It feels almost like a team that has listened

to its coach that the coach kind of please, just try it. Can we just play this way? I feel like we're going to see results. And then they get results. It's like, oh, shit. It's like a door is open. And it's, okay. Okay. It's starting to come out right now. And old Chuckie Knoblock comes in and like David's buddy. So you're thinking that there's a relationship. where he's going to listen to him. I think Paul Coffey has had a massive, has to have had a massive impact on that decor. And part of the reason is because they listen to him.

Right? Like this guy's a Hall of Famer. You can't ignore what he's trying to tell you. And it seems to. Well, they ran someone too when they got rid of gold, when they got rid of Woodcroft. Who did they, it was their D guy. And that's when they brought coffee in.

Yeah. And so like, But Dave Manson They're much better since Yeah. Yeah. Don't get me wrong. Dave Manson's Dave Manson.

He had a hell of a career and is as respected as anyone that's played. But different tool set and probably looking at the game a little differently. I got to imagine that if Dave Manson's given advice, it's like me trying to give Bushard advice. Probably, eh. But Paul Coffey's played that game.

He's played that game. offensive style. He's made those plays. I just don't think you can discount what he's meant to that coaching staff. It's one of those things. You brought it up earlier in the week, Pinder. It's not as though Bouchard has just started playing a bunch of minutes and putting up points. His playoff last year. He was over a point again. He was terrific. 17 points in 12 games. It's still, it feels like not the points aren't just there, but his involvement has has increased. It's, he's, he's, here's the numbers from last night because you know how I love numbers. Yeah, of course.

3101 primary assist on the winner in 5 on 5 minutes, 28 minutes, 49 seconds at 5 on 5. Shots for the Oilers, 188, high danger chances, 7 and 0, goals, 3-0-0-0. So that's not just chipping in and getting cherry-pick assists or getting goals in the power play. That's a well-rounded game all of a sudden from this kid. I think he's the highest paid defenseman in the league in two years.

Like he's got that nice blend of he's old enough where he's close to UFA. They bridged him. And he's now, he had over 82 points this year. He looks like 100 point D next year if they keep this crew together. Yeah. God. It's crazy. And it's like, how do they find another one of these guys?

Well, this one actually, they drafted and developed. It wasn't the win a lottery thing. But there was a lot of time where they, like, move this guy for somebody that'll hit someone. It took a while, but it's there. And that's another guy that you're talking at 40, 50 million bucks of those three guys now. Do you want to get them all? Yeah. Yeah.

That's a good problem now, though. Yeah. You'd rather have it in the other way. I don't, I'm not happy about any of the, no, this sucks. Yeah. Now, Dallas was down two O fellows, remember, to Vegas? Yeah. Where was morale about the stars at that point?

Certainly, it's just you don't want to, you don't want to, you don't want to give them two. I'm, Dallas certainly has the ability to win the series. Yeah. But I don't want a chance. I don't want to, you know what I mean? Yeah, it's one of those things. If you pick them closer. Yeah, I'll take the stars in six and then the Oilers win a game.

Jesus. Well, you took them in six. They're going to have to win a game or two in order for that to come through. But there is, again, some resiliency. Another part of this team where maybe in the past they fold. They just crumbled. They blew a two nothing lead. McDavid robbed by Ottinger somehow on that play, a four-minute penalty kill in overtime, a goal post, another goal post, and all of it, they survive and get it done.

Little adversity along the way. It's these things that the hallmarks of good hockey teams that win that they're starting to show right now, which is probably for us, the most concerning. yes it is we need something horrible to go on here yeah hey we can if they get through this round we it's that's peak sadness trust me i've done it you get all the way there get real real close the funny thing is like you keep thinking like how does this end if they if they don't win it how did they get their hearts broken it might be public enemy number one if it was not the could chucking getting like that's right into their scar tissue isn't it yeah that'd be all right But you don't want them getting that part.

But if they did, boy, if Kachuk could come back and be even more hated than he ever was, that'd be impressive. What do you think the betway, if we were going to go betway and look on the app, the odds of McDavid in front of the net with that amount of time and not scoring? Because you know what people do? They go and they'll cherry pick the screen grabs. There's nobody standing beside him. I mean, I don't know how. I'm stunned he was left alone. I actually thought there was,

you mentioned it, that D tandem didn't do a great job of keeping those guys off the score sheet. I think they will be better, but as soon as he got out of the box and overtime and that they didn't score, I'm like, for sure this guy's going to score. And the fact that he didn't score there. Yeah. It was like, oh,

okay, well, good on you. She's just incredible. because he did that, Audenger did kind of the same thing earlier in this playoff, right? He held the paddle out and got a piece of one that he had no business getting. It's desperation.

But it's, I thought the exact same thing that they better, they better score on this four minute power play or they might be in, they might be hooped. And, I would say that McDavid still doesn't look himself to me.

In general. I think he looks, he's obviously still good. Yeah. But I don't, to me, something doesn't, he doesn't seem to be 100%. It could be. Like, who caught him last night in a race? I don't care if he was a little bit tired. Yeah, who was it?

Lindell. Yeah, it was. It wasn't even hasty. It was Lindell that caught him. Right? Like, there's no way that happens regularly. Like, again, he maybe is tired and this and that, but you've seen the guy tired before and people still can't touch him.

Yeah. Like, he should be pulling away from guys. Anyway, that's my dumb observation. It was a good night for the depth guys, too, for them. We talked about, you know, the stars. And, yeah, they're all over the score sheet. But the third line, the fourth line, the bottom four defensemen, since they've broken them up and split the CC and Nurse, like, it's been better.

And it wasn't a night where you're like, you know, the bottom two lines of Dallas overwhelmed the O'Ollors. Like, they got good performances. And to be fair, like, a lot of those guys are penalty killers. they're unreal right now. Yeah. And the Oilers had the lead, right? If they're trailing, you're probably trimming that bench

and you're seeing a lot more of 97 and whatever number of fucking dry saddleware. But when you're when you're protecting, you maybe play it a little bit different. But to your point at the very beginning, goalpost and out goes goalpost and in. Dallas wins. And it's a whole different story. And it was close. This is early on in the fort.

I mean, it's so close. man. The puck, I don't know. The puck is round and the post is round, guys. I don't know if you've ever

thought about that. They're both cylinders. Round puck, round post. He put the wrong spin on it. Yeah. Not enough of the intern, I guess.

Give Skinner credit. For a guy that got, yanked in a series where they were trailing, you know, three to two in or two to one, whatever it was at that juncture, he's, uh, confident composed, is not freaked out. This is not, uh, like he, he seems to be very level headed, which at that position isn't always the case. Stars have lost game one in seven straight series. It's not the recipe for success that you'd.

Yeah. Every single loss by a goal, five of them have come in double over time or over time or over. time. Oh, and seven in game ones. Five of them beyond regulation. Yeah. So it's a kick in the, it's a kick in the in the stones.

I looked, just because we were talking about Evander Kane and what he's done. Last year, Hyman had three goals in 12 playoff games. It's like, were you sick? Did you have, did you have the flu bud or what?

Because he got 12 in 13 games this year. They're finally spending money on his development. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. And you know what's also good? You talk about, you know, residue that's left behind. It's now pissing off Leaf fans that they let him go for nothing. You didn't get it with this guy.

He's got 12 goals and 13 games. This is the kind of guy you need the playoffs. We need to let him walk for nothing. Way to go dubus, you idiot. So there's that. Oiler happiness, leaf sadness. It's not quite the same, but, no. It's been a couple of good centers he's played with in his career, right?
