It is a Calgary Flames game day.
Holy.
Drum roll, please.
For the first time in the 24-25 season,
get your helmets on, it's a Calgary Flames game day.
Let's go, game one of 82, and then who knows how many after that.
Where's the jackometer today, Jack?
Game one.
I don't know that we have.
Do you have a jackometer for the flames?
Is your...
The jackal meter or the jackometer?
It's both.
Okay.
Kilometer kilometer.
Yeah.
I think I start with jackometer because it sounds dirty.
And then Ryan scolded.
It's very technical.
Jackometer.
It's like kilometer.
It's not the jacko meter.
No, but it's both kilometer kilometer.
All right.
Still's an answer.
We've been to.
Tomato potato, Dean.
I guess.
I don't know.
Whatever.
It'd be right in the middle rent.
Good preseason.
Not too high, not too low.
Good stuff.
Say it a four to five.
Nice.
No, and just for people that don't, there's the, it's the jackometer.
Does it go from zero to ten?
10 or is 0 to 10 yeah 0 is not a number zero zero zero is nothing so you don't have a team you
zero's where they're in the mold arena they got a big zero right now that's where they're at that's
that's what the zero that's right anyway I think it's anybody's cup to win really may the best team
won may the best may the best let's injuries not like a best or best best best
niceest,
that sort of town.
Oh, the nicest team.
Yeah, the good guys.
Who's got the best.
Who's got the nice guy to?
Who's opening the doors for the old ladies
at the grocery store?
Let that team win.
Saw Academy.
They have a lot of nice guys.
Do they?
Friendly.
They don't like to hit.
Too friendly.
Very friendly in the defense episode.
Oh, wow.
Here, you take this spot.
You haven't had a scoring chance in two minutes.
Yeah, that was like,
what's his name with the Utah's last night?
Just let Bedard kind of slide.
I had run on by.
I could hippie you.
But, uh...
Well, I was a circuit chef who's, uh, very good at defending typically.
It was very nice of him not to potentially injure a star.
That's a good point by you, Dean.
I sort of thought he had him and there's, oh, but I found some room with like, no,
the circuit champs didn't really finish that hit.
He faked a hip check.
I've never seen a fake hip check before.
Big shout out to, uh, Noah Allen for with the Blackhawks.
A lot of name drops.
Well, it's my little D partner's nephew, Dean, and you know, Chad Allen.
Chad Allen.
No.
Nephew.
His dad was a.
big hulking man like a six-eighter
is that right oh yeah
towering davidson look out
if you're from davidson you got a rookie defenseman
I know a guy
the buttons now
oh my god
sure what it was
to the congress
no one no one double down
uh lots to do today
lots to do today
uh there's playoff baseball happening
some yesterday some today you're pretty in on this
there were uh it's playoff baseball
It's hard to beat.
Oh, I know.
And your Yankees are in,
and I think there's a lot of tantaline series.
Like, you might not be a Phillies or a Mets fan,
but that's got some juice.
He's a Phillies everything fan.
And Dodgers is insane.
Like, this is insane.
You know what we can do?
We'll bring in our buddy right away.
And we'll watch the highlights together.
Because what's going on in San Diego?
With that, I guess there's not a whole lot going on in San Diego.
They love their baseball team.
But they are out of their flipping minds for this Padres team.
You have to understand the thing about San Diego is,
is you bleeping hate L.A.
It's the bigger neighbor that soaks up all the everything,
steals their damn chargers, bleep L.A.
L.A. Ruins everything.
And then they got this baseball team in your division
that just win the pennant every GD year.
So they hate L.A.
Bleep L.A. Bleep the doyers.
I get it.
So that's the juice there.
It's the first game of the season.
There's so much going on.
It's a nice day outside.
And what? Just when you thought your day couldn't get any better.

We go to the insider hotline
and say hello to our buddy,
former National Hockey League goaltender.
Sweet, sweet boy,
and I saw, I was looking for clips on the,
it was funny, I was going to put a little
kind of Jamie McClain of montage together.
Yeah.
He was in moments and that sort of thing.
He was fighting,
he fought a forward in one of the games
when he was in St. Louis.
Oh, wow.
A little younger, that's all.
Wow.
Remember you had a bad lip, like you got cut or something really bad.
Alan McCauley sliced me open, and then Daryl got mad at me for taking too long on the table.
And I'm like, I don't have the sutures in my hand, buddy.
Another one.
There's a...
Oh, wow.
The young kid.
This is before Movember started.
This was, we did this before November.
I'm, I was some sort of an exchange student at this one.
That was.
Yeah, but...
Pedro, that's awesome.
Holy smoke.
It was awesome.
Yeah, we had a good time back then.
We had a lot of fun.
And then last one, Josh Green.
Greener.
Oh, man.
But yeah, you look, retro.
Everyone looks good.
Retro looks like Aaron Rogers.
Like, that's all I can think of when I see.
Well, they believe in the same medical faux science.
Ayahuasca or whatever.
Yeah.
I get some Ibigan and Ayalaska, the stem cells,
gear plates, cold plunge.
Come on.
What's up? How was the summer? How's everybody doing?
We missed you. I know. You tell us.
I mean, last time we checked in, you're going to go to Italy and you, you know, like, you're the gallivancing one.
Let's hear what you're summer.
Went to Italy. It was great. Kids loved it. Now, of a sudden, it's a family trip instead of a couple's script.
So we got to go back with these kids. And you know what? It's awesome.
Italy's the best. I would move there tomorrow if I could work from there.
The food is amazing.
Yeah, travel is good.
You know, been back and forth to Alberta a few times,
seeing family, friends, all that,
and ready to rock.
Call in a game tomorrow.
Wow.
Yep, back at it.
You might have a team this year.
Ottawa looks okay.
I mean, the goalie might be a different,
he might be a difference maker,
but you get some maturation too.
You know, Stutzla had, we'll call it a down year.
He had 90 points the year before.
Last year is 72.
If he can get back to 90, 95.
you know, you, you added some depth.
They added a couple cup winners and cousins and Amadio,
a little bit more depth on that team,
a little bit more maturity, I think,
the trade chikering for Nick Jensen,
but now you've got a left-right situation.
Jensen will play in your top four,
and then you trade for Allmark.
And, you know, Elmark gets the deal today,
but I've laid eyes on them this weekend.
I thought exhibition season stunk.
I hated it.
I don't know how you guys felt.
I just loved it.
Team was good here.
It felt like it went on for three months.
It was insane.
But I'm happy to witness hockey last night and onward and upward.
So onward and upward, like you've had the summer to kind of rest and recover.
How is the schedule looking for Mr. McLennan this year?
Yeah, it looks like I'll be calling like 50 games and, you know, 10 months on, buddy.
You know how it is from September 3rd.
No, no, I said around this.
to July 2nd, at 7 o'clock, 7 p.m. July 1st, I am done.
That's basically my next break, I feel like, and that is right after my show and after
free agency.
Yeah.
So it's you and Iggy, because I heard that Iggy's just working his ass off down at the
dome too, just call it, like, no stop.
And what?
What's he doing?
Oh, he's still special advisor living in Colonna.
I thought he was going to be full-time here.
What the hell of guys?
Well, he's got the kid.
I mean, I don't know where Tees is at.
I didn't check.
It doesn't look like
back to Colona.
Joe's in Edmondson.
Yeah.
So I think he'll do the tour.
And then Jade,
I think is still at Brown,
isn't she?
I think the daughter,
she's an unbelievable hockey player.
So he's produced three,
three winners for sure.
And what I keep hearing,
I don't know if you guys hear this,
is that Joe,
he might be the one out of all of them.
Like Teage is an unbelievable player,
Jade is too,
but Joe has, apparently Joe is Chero.
Well, at 15,
last year. He got an extended run because they had some injury issues. And I know the WHL's
a lot more games for 15-year-olds. He had like five points in his first three games in the Western
league is a 15-year-old last year. So it's his first full year there now. I think it'll blow the
door was off the league. And we're seeing 16-year-olds do that. Like McKenna last year had almost
100 points in the Western League. Like to see 16-year-olds put up crazy numbers,
like I think he'll do it this year because we're seeing it a bit. And isn't Mickey DuPont's
kid like really special too? That's a special status. Yeah. Yeah. We'll shoot.
I got three boys and they're all dumb idiots.
They're not going to get a conversation.
They're the honest.
Aren't they all mutants still?
They're like six, five type of thing.
They're all the opposite.
They'll accomplish nothing in life.
So it's just a fair thing it takes, right?
So essentially the flames were just one generation off.
They had DuPont and Iggy's.
Mickey DuPont should have played in the NHL.
It was the old stupid ear too small.
He skated like the wind.
He was an exceptional play.
Yeah, like he B. Bond was, if he played 10 years later, he would have been a $8 million defenseman.
Yeah, he's today's like waterbug top pair guy. There was none of those back then.
Yeah. So for you, so again, for people that we just assume everybody knows what's going on.
So you're doing work with TSN for the Ottawa Senators, color commentary. What's the, what's the actual word of these?
Yeah, I do call us. Yeah, so it'll be me and Gordon Miller, but I do color for the senators, regional
broadcast. I'll do about 50 games. I think our package is 54 and I'm doing yeah so I think I'm
doing about 50 year in that range 48 to 50 I've already done a couple preseason so I think my number is 50 but I
haven't to be honest I don't have the full schedule yet but it's it's close it's coming so
and then we're doing overdrive 4 to 7 Monday to Friday uh you know and on the road like I bring my
rake, just like you guys, you just set up and do your thing. And then I do SportsCenter and
that's hockey and panels for the Leafs and Habs and whoever else they need. It's like I say,
I kind of do a jack of all things with TSN. It just as assigned. That's basically what it is.
So I get, I'll get a schedule and go, hey, can you do sports center night or can you do
sports center day or all that type of stuff? And I try and wedge it all in. I make it work.
December 19th, there in Calgary. You can be here?
I will be. I'm calling that game. I actually know that or I heard a vicious rumor that I'm doing that game. December.
Yeah, senators at flames and then they do the oilers on the 22nd. I think I'm doing flames oilers, but not the Canucks game. That's a national game, I believe, or a sports net property.
How's the goal in your house? He's good. The good one? My seven-year-old?
Not you.
Yeah.
No.
He's good.
He's good.
Like the, he loves it.
And I said to him, buddy, he had this thing last year where he's like,
Daddy, I want to play hockey till I'm eight.
And I said, okay, perfect.
You can play till you're eight.
And then I was telling he was at a party or something.
And I was telling the parents, I said, well, Quintney only wants to play until he's eight.
He goes, Daddy, I want to go a little longer.
And I said, okay.
Yeah, I'm wrong.
But they had their first game the other day.
He's kind of their full-time goalie.
he was chipped.
My wife told me he was chipped because I can't go to practice because I'm on air.
But they brought up a house league goalie to practice with them to have like two
goleys at practice.
And he thought that goalie was replacing him.
He was hit.
He's got a little fire to him, which I don't mind.
But he's he's doing good.
Like kids are good.
You know, my daughter's a big Swifty.
So trying to get her some Taylor Swift Dick.
Hey, coach, I'm going to need a minute.
What we got going on down here?
What are we doing?
I don't play these mind games, coach.
I don't know what you're trying to pull.
And the coach is Mike Camilleri.
His coach is Camelary.
Yeah, be trusted.
Yeah, Cammy's actually.
Oh, boy, you look, Mike Cadillary scored.
Yes.
That Cammy's awesome with the kids.
He's so good with the kids.
Yeah.
So it's been good.
We have a good summer.
good ready to rock how's things in calgary
i have so much i have so much
want to talk to you about the boom's going to get mad
because we're not talking about it's important
boobs like getting mad home no boobs's not
a lot of mad today so my family is not
living on an island anymore
well i think he flies back for
that he was in the bahamas or something
like that i think he flies back in and forth
i don't know i don't try and get into
personal lives of people i just
i just fumble around and do my own
thing and talk to people but i i
don't like encroach on what
they're up to. I just, I feel like
if they want to share information with me, great.
I don't, I don't try and pry.
Is that the bio steel money?
We prefer to encroach over here.
We were happy.
Yeah, we're happy.
It's more of our producer.
You can't only around. We'll get the goods.
Oh, there you go.
Yeah, get us this number. We'll have them on.
Tell me what I'm on.
Tell them we want them on. I'll tell them when I might see him on Saturday.
So you just kind of blew over the
Leibis-S-Lmark thing.
I think the Ottawa Senate has been undone by goaltending
more than anything else in the last five years.
And I think they've had the worst goaltending in the NHL over the last years.
I don't know if the franchise's had worst goaltending.
We're going to get the one of Vesna the last, what, two years?
And they just extended it to eight and a quarter.
And you're like, yeah, well, they got Michael Amadia.
What are you talking about?
Like, they've got a goalie finally noodles.
They do.
And you know what?
The game I did the other night in, in Ottawa,
he was good.
Like, he's a legit goalie.
My whole thing, and I'll even tie this to the Swayman situation.
Those guys were good together.
Let's see what they look like apart.
And what I mean by that is they're both really good goaltenders.
But I always talk about what is the goalie when he's a standalone.
Is Allmark a 50 game starter?
Is he a 55?
Is he a 60?
Or is he a tandem with something with a 45 and Anton Forzberg's going to have to play with it?
Same thing, Corpusala, Swayman.
Now, these guys are getting paid, you know, like the hell of bucks,
liked it to be paid, you know, to play 60.
Like Hellebuck is 60 in his sleep.
He can do that and play basketball.
Ski, Shasturkin, all those guys, right?
Here's the other thing.
The guy up the road in Abington played 59 in the regular season
and 23 in the playoffs.
He played 82 games last year.
Like Stuart Skinner at least showed,
regardless of what you think of his play in pockets,
he showed that he's durable enough to play as a number one,
and he delivered number one minutes
and some number one play along the way as well.
So with Allmark, one of Esna,
but he's never touched 50 games.
So it'll be a new challenge for him,
but I think, not think,
I know it's the right move.
Ottawa went out and got a goalie.
And they've got a little bit depth at that position.
They went and they got a new coach and Travis Green.
You guys know I've known Greenie for a long time.
I played junior with them.
We played pro together.
he's a good friend of mine.
But, you know, there's work to be done there.
Like, that's the biggest thing is there's work to be done
because, you know, I think their defensive structure
didn't help the goaltenders out last year.
Like, so they go hand in hand.
Yes, they couldn't get a save.
Just like the New Jersey Devils couldn't get a save.
So you can't evaluate your team.
When you're not, when routine shots are going in,
you just can't evaluate it.
I think Allmark will bring a little bit of swagger to it.
he's got this swagger in the net. He handles the puck well. I like his honesty. I don't know
if he saw his media the other night. They're like, you know, you settled in and he's like,
hey, we haven't done anything. He goes, who cares about a preseason win? He goes, I don't care.
Like he goes, we haven't done anything. My expectation is high. I kind of like that. I just
like that a guy's got a little swagger and chip to him because I think that team needs, you know.
Yeah, I mean, he's on that Boston team that has that great regular season that gets bounced in round one.
This is not a guy that's going to be celebrating a whole lot
until it happens in the playoffs for sure.
So we got some signings today.
We noticed the old mark one.
I almost followed my chair this morning,
and I think boom was the same when we saw Joey Decord five times five.
They started Philip Grubauer yesterday.
Like where we had on Joey DeCord?
And if he's worth five, like,
but don't you want to be a goalie agent right now?
Because you won't for years.
These guys are underpaid.
And in the next two summers,
you're going to have Shasturkin Hill,
Alan Georgiev, Markstrom, Bobrovsky, Demko, and Skinner, all free agents.
Like everyone's price just went up after Decord made five today, isn't it?
I would say so.
But now, in defense of Joey Decord, if you actually go, and you're a big numbers guy,
go and look at his numbers.
He played very well, and he was their, you know, with Grubauer's injury, he was their number one.
I would be shocked if they end the season with that tandem.
Like I think, now Grubauer, you know,
have to fact check me. Does he have three years left at 5-8 or something like that?
This is the full season and it was a six-year deal if I were-
So he's got two-year-cloth. Yeah.
I think they're looking at his Gruberauer at some point will be expendable.
DeCord is their guy. Like I like him. I think he's a good goalie. It's just
sample size, right? Like he had one, you know, he's had maybe one and a half good seasons.
I mean, they made the playoffs two years ago and Joey Cord was a big part of that. And then
last year he was kind of their guy with the group hour injury but i it is a surprising number based
on you know his fanfare he's not a household name and i don't even know if they view him as a one
but they're paying him kind of as a de facto one but maybe maybe five is the new three you know
in goaltending and eight or nine is the new six where guys were so i get it but i don't i i understand
fall off the chair too. When I saw that, I was like, he says a big number. Now they've got
almost 11 million in goaltending right now. And again, it's year four of six for Grubauer,
11 million bucks. And I don't think you have top 10 net money in the league. If you're spending
11, I'd rather put most of that into Chesterkin. Well, I, I would put just,
Schisturkin is, he's a top five goaltender on the planet for sure, for me. And then you can
have this argument. And I think maybe goaltending.
or at least the perception of goaltending might have changed.
You guys tell me.
Brodowski for a long time,
what was that,
two, three years in Florida,
10 million, that contract was an album.
Can't play.
But then the guy
takes them to a final and was brilliant,
and then wins a Stanley Cup.
10 seems worth it for now.
You know, the guy was,
he's been really good the last couple of years,
I guess one and a half,
because it was Alex Lyon that got them into the playoffs.
that year.
But that's until a goaltender, a $10 million goaltender proved,
now Kerry Price took his team to the finals at 10 and a half.
You have to be in that stratosphere to be a double-digit goaltender, in my opinion.
That's Shasturkin.
Yeah, an argument on our show yesterday, 11 million, that's too much.
I go, you know, there's four guys on the Leafs that make 11 million.
Four of all.
One of them over Shasturgan, that's it.
Like, absolutely.
Exactly.
And I would trade three of them, like only one of them.
is untouchable. The other three
you would trade straight across or have
to throw in a sweetener to get
Shisdurkin. And so the cap
might be a hundred million bucks in two years.
Yeah. What's the problem with giving Shasturkin
12? Like is a percentage of the cap
that's less than what Kerry Price got
in his deal. We have to, we, everyone
thinks of these numbers like 10, scary.
It's like, well, the cap's always changing.
10 isn't 10 from when Kerry
Price signed his deal. Right.
It doesn't seem 14 in today's money,
right? You know what if it comes down
to is it's the perception is is goaltending is replaceable just get replacement level
goaltending and get two guys that make five million and look at what Chicago did in 2010
with anti-Niami and look at you know like there is a case aden hill look at what begis did with
aden hill you know so you do have some sample size but if your team is structured it's not just
Sturkin's fault, he's a superstar.
Like, I would put him in the,
in the bucket that there's
five, six, seven guys
on the planet that he
is competing with. And it's
Hellebuk, it's Mark Strip, you know,
the best goalies, best Vasilevsky,
the three Russian goalies is Sorkin.
Outside of that, everybody
else falls into a bucket, which is
below, which is in that
five or six range. So
like Shasturkin deserves
the money. He deserves the percent.
of the cap. I just think it's, you know, people can't get their heads wrapped around. Well,
a goalie, like he doesn't play all the games and he's replaceable. If you, you know, you've got a guy
who makes $5 million who has a 915 save percentage and this guy has a 918. Well, I'll take the
915 and put the money somewhere else. Yeah, if your team's built that way, I think the Rangers can
afford it. Now, they've got some players that are coming up, but ultimately, I do believe
Shasturkin's worth a big, a big number.
He's arguably one of the best
goaltenders on the planet.
I don't have anyone ahead.
I'm like, I thought it was Vasilevsky,
but three or four years ago, it's him now.
Like, do, does anyone have, who's your number one?
Like, Connor's been.
Oh, yeah.
If you get to pick out of the hat, he's,
that's number one.
Yeah, that's my number.
Vaselowski is still my one because he just turned 30.
And now he's, he had the surgery last year.
He's had a good off season to work out.
that guy's an absolute animal in the gym
I've heard like a freak
I would be my like
I don't even know if this is a
stretch but I want to say my surprise team this year
is Tampa yeah you've got a team
that is well rested over the last couple summers
yes you move Stamcoast
but you bring in Gensel if Gensel can do anything
close to what Stamco's brings now it would be a different
dynamic because that one timer on the power blade
it's a left shot right shot they'll have to figure that out
but if you look at what Tampa has quietly done, you've got Hagel, you got Nick Paul, Anthony
Sorrelli, like there's some players in that like mid-level that we forget are pretty damn good players
that play for Tampa above or below, you know, the the Coucher off and Braden Point.
And even trading Sergachev, like J.J. Moser's a pretty good player.
Like that's the thing.
Like people don't pay attention because he played in Arizona.
He's a good player.
And it's just a sneaky move.
Like, I think Tampa, a healthy Tampa, they might do some damages here.
And it's interesting, because that is a bit of a hot taking away because everyone is so
down on them.
And the Sergachev deal at the first glance is like, why would you move your best defense?
But I know headman's the star, but Sergachiev did a lot of heavy lifting there the last four or five
years and it's just coming off a broken leg.
Yeah.
And then it's like, they just said by their captain.
Like I do think a lot of people are down on Tampa this year.
So I like that take.
It's just a, I was looking at.
teams. You guys, you know, when I'm, when I do my color, I try and lay, you get everybody's teams laid out and stuff like that.
And I'm looking at Tampa, I'm like, God, they're pretty good. Like, I'm like, oh, that guy had 72 points.
You know, Brandon Hagel, forgot about him. Oh, Nick Paul had 23 goals. Like, you know, he's making $3 million.
Like, you start to look at like, oh, that's a pretty nifty move. Oh, that's a, not a bad move.
Oh, forgot about that. And then you look at, okay, the spine of a team that I always look at, like down the middle, they look pretty nice.
I don't think, I just think that what we do is we focus on all the other teams,
like the Leaves get a lot of love, Boston is polarizing, Florida just won,
so it's like, oh, Tampa, they, you know, they barely made the playoffs at 98 points last year and whatever it is.
But, you know, we forget that Basilevsky, they had Jerry Johansson playing in net,
whatever his name was the first month of season, you know.
It was Zurich, you're right, yeah.
So there you know.
I don't know.
Jerry was playing net.
I thought he was living in Evanson.
I love Jerry.
And we can move on from Tampa, but I just wanted to look it up there.
And the quietest 144 points for Kuturov last year, we were two-thirds,
then three-quarters to these, geez, Kutra's having a hell of a year.
He's leading the league in scoring, and no one was even really talking about.
In the lesser year, he wins the heart, right?
It's just you're up against nearly 70 goals, and then you have McKinnon go off.
Like, it's serious numbers.
Yeah, there was four guys that could have won the heart last year easily, you know.
So what about goaltending here?
Markstrom, as we know, is gone.
It is going to be Vlodar going in Vancouver for the season opener tonight, which
doesn't mean that.
Hey, they're going to play.
Both guys are going to play.
I don't know what the workload split is going to be, but just thoughts on Wolf,
Vladar heading into 82 games here in Calgary.
I think Vlodar, you give him the start to see, like, you're right, both of them
are going to play.
I thought Wolf in the preseason looked a little small.
And there's no, he is a small goaltender relative.
terms, right? But he's, I think it, like, when I look at his skill set, he reminds me of Ys
Sarovs. Great feet, great positioning, good glove hand, good demeanor in the net, doesn't seem to
get, you know, too worked up about anything. But when he's not on or he gets exposed to, like that
Winnipeg game, he got hung out to dry. And that wasn't, they sent an HL team into Winnipeg. And
Winnipeg, you know, their big boys flexed in the third period. But there's just, when it comes to
Dustin Wolf, and I'm going to bang his drum forever, because UC Saros has to live with this
every day of his life. There's no margin for air with a goalie who's 510, 511. You have to be perfect
with your positioning. Whereas Stuart Skinner, who's 6-4, he might be late to the play, but he's
big enough. The puck hits his shoulder or hits the outside of his elbow because he's a
4-2-30-25. You know, Wolf is not that. So his positioning has to be
Perfect.
So watching Winnipeg that night and, you know, the D, Young D, there's one timers from
the slot.
There's going to be some lean times, I believe, for Wolf this year where it's like, okay,
you've got to have to fight through that.
And that's just going to be the growth process.
That's where you have a guy like Vladar.
If they can work together, he can take some of that, you know, some of the tough times
or maybe give Wolf a couple games off here or there where it's just not, hey, we're
throwing this guy to 60 games to the wolves.
Like I think the flames are going to surprise people.
I think they will.
I don't think they're going to be a bottom feeder team.
I think they're going to be,
hey,
we're going to fight for points every night and be there.
I would love,
I would love nothing more for us to be talking weekly
about Jonathan Hubbardos having a year.
Like I just,
for some reason,
I know people have just written them off.
It's just like this guy's a 50 point guy
making 10.5 or whatever it is.
What if he could get back to 82 points?
What if he got some chemistry with somebody?
Like, I don't know.
That's a giant what if.
Maybe that's wishful thinking.
But I just, I would love to look at the flames and pull some really positive stories out.
And I would love for him to be one of them.
Just, I think.
I don't. It's probably a long shot to get maybe that.
It wouldn't take much, though, because everyone has given up, honestly, right?
I guess.
Expects.
Yes, the expectations are nil.
Christ, if he got 65, 70 points, it'd be like,
Oh, anywhere else.
You're $10 million forward playing on your.
whatever, third line.
Yeah.
That'd be the talk of camp.
He hasn't been brought up once.
He had one point in December last year, noodles.
And that rock bottom for Huberto in this market was probably the last couple days of
2023.
And the second half of the season, he operated at like a 66 point pace, which is a lot better.
But let's be honest, if he's a free agent with a different name this summer, he's probably
getting four or five million bucks and playing on your second or third line wing.
Yeah.
That's why this team had to rebuild because they gave a superstar.
contract to a guy that's played like a third-line winger.
And so here we are, where 66 all of a sudden would feel amazing.
And yet he's playing with Pospasol and Mantha, who like that's their third line.
What the other thing, not just about Hubert.
What do you think the, you're the fly on the wall in Conroy's office?
Like for you, you're saying you want to see him competitive and you think they're going to
surprise.
Is that what the plan is?
Like, of course, can you say that public?
I don't think, no.
I think the plan is to give experience to young guys.
Cycle through, see what you have.
You know, at the deadline, maybe move, you know, find some value for guys who either have term left on the deal or, you know, I don't think.
Who's a UFAs?
Manta.
Manta.
And then Vlodar, interestingly, if he wants to play well, could be a thing.
Here's a question for you to start the year.
Rasmus Anderson.
Two years left at like four and change for a guy that could play top pair.
Man, that that's a, if they decide, now you need a team to ice,
and I still believe you need veteran guys to help these young guys.
But Rasmus would get you a King's ransom.
He really would.
Right shot, can play power, play, plays in all situations, has some edge,
gets underneath the other team's skin because he chirps out there.
Like, I'm a big Rasmus fan.
Like, I think he's a terrific player.
And you've got Wigar as your right shot who can, you know, do all of that,
like moving forward.
You're not going to move away from Wigar.
But if it's Rasmus that could get you four and a half.
The contract, the player, everything.
But you know what?
If you're Craig Conroy, you can sit back and go, if the deal is not good enough,
I'm not taking it just to move the player out.
You have time.
They can win a year.
You can sell two playoff runs, but you're going to ask for way more, aren't you?
Exactly.
I just look at it and there is value on some of the players.
It's just, I think this team can surprise where it's like,
If cadre, you know, hits the ground running, you know, Kuzmanko is a good shooter.
Like, we know what Backwood's going to bring to the table.
If Hubert, I say, yeah, there's giant gifts all over the lineup.
Like if Mantha, I like Math as a player.
I liked him in Detroit.
Like, and, you know, he goes to Washington.
I don't, I never felt like he hit his top plateau.
I think he was a guy that had tremendous, you know, potential, and he never reached it.
The big guy can handle itself physically.
he's got a good shot.
It just, I don't know what was missing in all of this time.
Maybe he's a guy that can, you know, settle it.
Or maybe he's not.
Maybe he's a guy that just hasn't reached the potential because it's not there.
But I, you know, you got some good young players.
Like I think there's a mix that it's like, if they play with like to hell with it,
I'm going to go out and play, they're going to surprise some teams.
But you're right.
Connie might be going, I don't know if I want them to surprise scenes.
I kind of want them to kind of be where we want.
You know?
you finally get ownership to commit to a rebuild or whatever you got to do.
And then you have one good year.
So like, no, we got to try and win now.
I have one off season to try and build this roster and now we're winning.
I think we're all of the mind where they're going to compete really hard.
Ryan Huska teams have competed and had good structure.
There's huge question marks all over.
But there's a lot of guys that, you know, proved that to be more than we thought they were a year ago.
And other guys get that opportunity.
I also think it's not in Craig Conroy's best interest to lock.
guys to market rate deals
as they head into their 30s right now.
And that's what you're looking at with Rasmussen
two years. And that's what you're looking at with Kuzmanko
on his next contract. Yeah. So it's
an interesting, I think a best case
scenario that I think we all sort of
see is realistic is you compete hard,
you surprise some teams now and then,
you get rid of some expiring contracts
at the deadline, you get younger and you finish in the
bottom 10, so you keep your first pick
first round, you don't have to give it to Montreal.
Watching a few young kids grow
with the regular. The growth of players,
you, if you end up moving, you know, somebody at the deadline and you get either a good
live body or another pick, like to me, there's, you've got lots of flexibility.
You want to give that and continue to build.
Like, I, I've always said this.
Maybe you guys have echoed it too.
It's you want the team to be really good when the, when the, uh, the new building,
you drop the puck in the new building.
It's like, hey, we're, we're here.
We're here.
But in the interim, you could still have lots to focus on and, and, and, and, you're up,
and lots to be excited about.
You know, what is Zerry, like what, you know, another year of Zeri.
Like some of these kids, like, can they get to that next level
where they're just pushing veterans out through the osmosis?
Like, Zeri needs to play ahead of this.
He's a better player.
That's it.
Like, so I think that internal competition, Connie's done a good job.
And then he's got some grizzled veterans that can help.
You know, Tyson Barry.
If Tyson Barry can get his act together, I think he's a decent player.
I think he's a good player.
But maybe he's a pick that you've done.
could, you know, somebody you could move at the deadline for a team that's looking for a right
shot guy who can run a power play. But Tyson's a really good guy and he's going to be liked
in the city and liked in the dressing room. So, you know, these are a little sneaky place that
Connie's made kind of behind the scenes that, you know, this team is, I'd like this team to be
really likable. You know, there's some other teams you look around the league. They're like,
that's an unlikable team. That's not giving me the flags. I just look it at it. There's a lot of
good guys there. What are some of those teams, these unlikable?
Depending on your perspective, I think that Florida Boston game at two of those teams.
Man, they don't like each other.
Oh, that's great.
For game one?
Oh, oh.
I love it.
But, you know, like, yeah, boss, those teams have, there's some teams that have some chip to them, you know, some swagger.
And some of them deserve it.
Some of them don't.
You know, there's teams in this league that have swagger.
You're like, you've done nothing.
I don't know why you have swagger.
But there's other teams that need swagger.
that, you know, I'm looking at, even at that Atlantic division,
so you got Montreal, Ottawa, Detroit, Buffalo.
Like, is one of those teams going to push through?
Like, maybe it's five from the Atlantic and three from the Metro this year based on,
but, you know, who's going to push through?
And then out of those four at the top of the Atlantic,
is there any regression that comes down?
That, you know, maybe they come to the more of the middle of the pack
and they're at 95 point team.
Like, that would be interesting for me.
Same thing out west, you know, is it seems like there's a big separation between top and bottom.
Who's going to push up?
Who's going to push down?
You know, Demko, three weeks to a month, same injury that they had in the playoffs last year.
I think Vancouver is a good team.
I really do.
I just, if Shiloff and Lankton can give them good bulltending, I think there'll be a team that can win the division again.
But it just, you know, everyone's picking Evanton.
Evanton's, you know, people are going to be playing them hard every night.
You know, they watched them go deep into the playoffs.
And Evanton got older and a bit slower, but they didn't get worse.
They still got skill and they've got good players.
How are they better?
That blue line's worse.
Can't argue that, can you?
Same goalie, older forward group, worst D.
Well, okay, were you a, you could argue that Cody Cici is probably one of the most polarizing defensemen, right?
Like, from an analytic standpoint, people hated his guts, correct?
Sure. I think it was probably more the salary and how he was slotted that was the issue.
Like, I think he would have been a serviceable third pair guy, but they needed someone to play second bear.
And the guy that actually did it best is playing in St. Louis and scored last night.
And then you got Emerson coming in. It was a six, seven for San Jose. He's four now.
Yeah. I just thought. And I get it. But still, right now.
I don't know if that robert was going to push above. Like, I, I know he scored last night and all that good skater.
But I just thought I wasn't 100% sold on him. I liked it.
him. The guy I liked,
Holloway, I thought, had the upside, but then
every scout I talked to is
comparable as Blake Coleman.
So, you know,
that's a top nine forward.
And I just don't know where he'd squeeze in that lineup.
So, I mean, you had to, you had to move away.
But I think Evanton is as good.
I just think they just look differently.
That's, that's, you know, Arbotson is,
he's a bastard to play against that little guy.
Like, he's hard to play against.
Like, he's not big and he's not super fast, but he is, he's going to be, he's like a smaller
Corey Perry in that 10 foot radius.
So the, the X-step factor for me with Evanton is Jeff Skinner.
Can he play in the top six?
Can he develop some chemistry with Leon Dry Settle?
You know, that, that's, but they've got some players there.
We'll see.
I mean, Evanton, I, they can't have a worse start.
Maybe they, you know, could they go?
You know, could they go?
Are you the coach?
People want him, Dan, like, I don't think so.
man, what were they, two, nine and three or something to start the season?
Almost as bad as the flames in the first month.
Yeah.
So, oh, well, there's lots to, lots to chew on lots of people to look at.
You know, lots of teams, I think, that got better or teams that just stayed the same
and are hoping for kind of, you know, get back to the dance.
I think Nashville got a little bit better.
You know, Stamcoast is, is adds to it.
You know, I like that team.
I just, I don't know, maybe they're not in the sexy.
market that we all pay attention to.
I love Nashville, but.
Shay, Marshall, still Stamco.
It's like in three years you could argue
those might not be great deals.
I love them for this year.
Yeah, I think they'll be good.
I look at, you know,
Winnipeg, you get a healthy Vilardi.
You get a healthy left shot.
Young kid just signed.
Perfetti.
Yeah, Paul Perfetti.
Like, he's a nice...
Lurring never really played after that trade.
Valardi came in and played, so it's hard to say.
You go through Willett.
go here. We don't want to keep you too long, but you go through that exercise of looking at the
standings from a year ago and the teams of Detroit, Ottawa, these teams could be better.
Who's coming out? That's kind of a harder. Yeah. I watch them easy to say they're coming out,
but beyond that, it's tough in the east. They're good teams. Are you really seeing a step back
from a team like Boston? Yeah, I could, that's a thing. I could see Washington coming out,
but then maybe one of those other teams in the metro, maybe Pittsburgh has.
I'll take that spot. They didn't get in last year. Detroit was still close at the end of
getting in. Yeah. I think it's Ottawa.
I like your team there. Finally.
You know, their schedule's ugly. Like, they start tomorrow
against Florida.
This is no way to make the playoffs.
Is this what they're doing in the room?
It's all about to start with these teams.
You're not coaching anymore, Hayes, noodles.
In the first month, they play Florida,
on Colorado, Vegas.
Like, they've got, like, it's not a.
Colorado now. They don't even have their guys
healthy yet. This is perfect time. Maybe it's a good thing.
Yeah. All right, guys, game one.
Here we go. All right. We got
a tough schedule. That's what
I said.
Now, do they force you to make
a game in Vancouver tonight?
That's what I'm going to say. Before you go,
did they make you do picks? I know all these networks
twist your arm and make you do predictions. Have you had to do that
yet or no? I did not do that.
I got, I didn't,
I wasn't on that prediction show or
Wendellberg. You do you dodge the bullet. Do you want to
predict a cup winner here or if it's a certain city maybe you just don't do it because you remember you use
the i think you say well everybody a bunch of people are picking edmonton a bunch of people
just wonder where i i didn't pick edmonton um but it wasn't like i just worry that it's hard
to to to repeat to go back to the finals and i look at dallas i look at colorado if landez
skoggins up showing up i've always heard that he's a big piece of that like
keeping everybody else in line in that room.
Yeah, I just, I think there's so many,
like I think the Rangers could get over the hump.
I think Carolina people are sleeping on again.
That's a team that just,
they're just,
there's a 10 back of teams that I can make an argument for.
Evanton would be in there,
but I didn't choose a hard winner.
I kind of went off the board in my mind.
I was like,
maybe Winnipeg does something crazy.
And then I was like,
people are going to call you a nut job, Jamie,
so don't do that.
So I,
but I,
I thought to myself, if Winnipeg could actually have like a solid season,
you know, Chevy always kind of hides under the radar there and adds to his teams.
But I don't know, Dallas, like for some reason, Dallas has stuck out for me as a team that
is maybe on the cost but doing something special.
I didn't hear, sorry, Jay, I didn't hear you mention Toronto.
They've got the coach.
I mean, okay, so Joseph Wall is supposed to be their number of.
one, Anthony Stollars is playing tonight.
Like, I just,
I think Toronto got better on the back end.
You added TANF and Oliver Ekman-Larsin,
but they,
the team is the same.
It's the same.
Like, I don't know.
That hasn't won, right?
They can't get it down the spring.
Maybe.
Like, I think they're a underpoint team that makes a playoff.
Sure, I could, I could get behind that.
But, you know, are they going to beat,
are they going to be Boston?
Are they going to beat Tampa?
Are they going to beat Florida.
Florida.
Especially when you look at how, yeah, sorry, I was just, you look at how grimy Florida was last year.
They're shy on the grime content.
Okay, if you want me to get crazy and say a team, I'm going to say it's Tampa.
I like that.
Tampa Winnipeg Final, only got our predicting it.
We love you, crazy guy.
What did they call you, nut job?
Got it written down.
Crazy person.
October night.
Noodles, appreciate you, buddy.
All right, we'll chat later.
And there's some water bottles.
Yes.
Oh, you want the water bottles?
Yes.
Damn it.
Okay.
For sure, done, done.
All right, well, Chad later.
All right, see you.
There's Jay McClendon.
On the Crystal Waters, Plumbing and Heating, Insider Hotline,
Crystal Waters, Plumbing and Heating is your crystal clear choice for home comfort.
The phone number, you know, people still, I guess, still use phones.
You don't.
Not landline phones with phones.
403-219-410 or online, crystal clear, Calgary.com.
Because he's a part of waterball companies, that would it.
we said something about to
sorry we was talking about last year
for a while I was lost something no he was talking about micro plastics
and all that super clean
yeah because we hate grime
unless it's the panthers
plus six and then we love grime
and geronno is a little greasy here like
Trillivings put some a little bit some
like they got that Connor doer is a pain in the ass
Walker no oh he's a lot of pain
of asses available since he got married he's
could happen like Jake McCabe's got some nasty
on the back end like they're
Trillivings put his fingerprints there.
I just, you're still running back the same group.
No one believes in.
Right? No one thinks those guys are winning.
And see, I feel like you, that would be a team you could get behind.
I do. I am.
When everybody else is unwilling to accept or to look past that.
It's not the contrarian thing.
It's just that there's so much skill.
Like, I will always bet on talent.
And, you know, we saw a GM here go wild collecting as many gritty bottom six,
bottom half of the roster pieces.
and it never mattered because the top half of his roster didn't perform in the playoffs.
Like you had Lindholm, Kachuk, Kedrow, Bennett, Jordano, Anderson, Hanifin,
never really played that well in the playoffs here.
And so I don't care if your third pair's tough.
I don't care if your fourth line's got a guy that fights if your top guys don't have it in them.
And Kachuk was a surprising one because he looked good in the playoffs since he left.
He's always hurts or something.
Well, like in that Euler series, they win 9-6 in the first game, whatever it was.
and Chuckie's all over the place doing the,
we want some money pal to
with Andrew Kane.
And then he just didn't see him the rest of the series.
Well, I got hurt against Dallas, like the one year, right?
He got in the bubble, yeah, in the bubble.
And that was after the,
they beat Winnipeg and the Achilles slice.
But it just, that was a series
where he's in his prime and you're a star in this league
and he really didn't touch the games two through five.
And then they've done.
I mean, he was still young.
I mean, it's the year before he goes to Florida
and goes to,
So it's the progression, right?
No, no, I know.
I'm just like, I don't know what point I'm making.
I don't know either.
But it's just,
but you got yourself there.
No, but like if you're going to ask me,
do I like Toronto?
Like, I always like a team that has like three to four superstars that have the lights out.
They just never had goaltending.
And last year, they probably lost if they're healthy.
They missed Austin Matthews for like three games.
William Neal is like three.
Wolf for like three.
Like if they go to seven, it's not crazy.
They beat Boston last year.
they should have beat Florida the year before so Bob was 950.
They had the 950 goalie.
They're one of the final.
It's just they've never had the goal setting in the spring.
And Rodko, Cootas.
Ratko's in Anaheim last year.
He is.
No, two years ago, you brought it.
They had Red Coe gutus.
They did.
All Radcoe.
He got rid of him and they won.
He's captain of the ducks in their new uniforms and everything.
It's a beast.
It's quite a look.
It's quite a look.
We'll get into the PIDA report in a little bit.
We'll do some predictions or just kind of continue to talk about
the season, which started last night.
First goal for the hockey.
It started last week, but okay.
Yeah, it did.
Yesterday was made.
Now, we've showed you, here's the first goal.
The first goal ever scored was in preseason.
They put in their own net.
And then later on, they actually did score a goal.
And last night, I saw Ray Ferraro, did color commentary for the Seattle game.
He's awesome.
Then jetted to Utah to color for that.
So we did two games yesterday on ESPN.
I think it was.
He was a stunt.
And he got to.
to see the first ever goal in the Phillips Arena.
Take a look.
Here it is.
The opening period of the opening game for the Utah Hockey Club in their inaugural season.
Kesselring carries it across.
Drops one shot.
Scott.
Dylan Gunther likes the lab.
Utah on the board first.
Their first ever goal by number 11.
We can shoot it.
Great sniper.
Which is why we were talking before we got started.
What was that deal?
again. I was disappointed you brought that up before the show.
I was coming to bring that on live because
that was one of the worst deal. You only do every time
when Gunther scores. But it's
only started happening in last year or two. Like he's a young
kid. He's a ninth overall.
In the league like two years. So
before that I had to wait a long time. I know you really
ran this point on people saw that that OEL deal was
a fucking disaster from Ben. Now you'll
just do it every time. Now we'll get to
look like a goal. I'll make up
for it. I'm sure. I'm totally convinced.
Yeah. So like
OEL.
mobile and stuff and like lots of all-stars.
We're really excited to get him and Tyler Myers together.
They can change the light bulbs in my office because they're like so tall and stuff.
Hey, he's good as a third pair guy.
No sweat.
Don't have pay him eight though.
Jim.
Jim.
Jimmy.
Tim.
I would like, because there's times where he's got these takes, right?
They're really good and it looks good and it sounds like no.
His take has been paid.
It's perfect.
I know.
But it's just.
But just listen, listen, I understand the trade.
You know, but you're complaining about, I want to go back further
and get your thoughts on OEL when he could play.
He was great playing in Arizona, yeah.
Right?
We don't need to be digging up old takes that he's kind of abandoned.
Like we finally stopped hearing about Brandon Bowling, thank Christ.
I mean, what we saw, Oliver Euglin-Larsson was a star defenseman is Arizona,
and he had two or three years where he kept getting worse, worse,
and they just ain't through it to an eight times eight,
and Benning had one year left
on I think it was like
Rousel, Beagle, and Erickson
is bringing it back. I know. But I'm telling
you, this is exactly what I said at the time
and everyone tried to tell me OEL
was still good and they bought him out a year later.
For any fuck's sakes, everybody was
looking at that trade. It's like, you can't trade
for OEL because it's too much money and there's too much
term and his days are behind him.
I don't know. I told you that OEL
was going to be a star. Wow.
Your boy walks love that deal.
Well, look it.
So it's Andrew
Well, he was the Ryan Pinder of Vancouver.
You do whatever he could just upset the apple card.
Wow.
I mean, he just ignored the numbers.
That's all.
He was bad when they got him.
Yeah, he's good as a third pair guy.
You can't be a third guy, $8 million.
He was sitting in Anaheim, or sorry, Arizona for a couple of years where he was easily
available.
And the whole, all the narrative was, he was good, but you can't take him.
Well, you can't.
He was interested.
Yeah, I know he was.
And that's like, that's why it was.
I thought it was.
It wasn't universal that people thought he was done.
It's not that he was done.
Don't hear what I'm not saying.
It's the term of the contract was unsanable.
It was six years left on that deal.
And Arizona ended up eating like one and a quarter.
So it got it down to like six and three quarters or seven and a quarter something like that.
And then they had a buy them out.
And yeah, Florida brings me in like three.
Of course he's great at three.
That's we could play third pair of three million bucks.
They bought out like six years.
Well, Vak, yeah.
How long is back?
Oh, God.
He's got to get paid into the 30s, like 20, 30 something for sure.
Vancouver's going to have dead money.
They do.
To that guy.
Yes.
And they're going to have to extend Demko in two years and best for this summer.
And it was so bad that everyone agreed, no, you have to spend this money.
You have to buy him out and commit this to the cap because you can't do anything else.
If you want to have other players where you want to move forward, you have to gong this guy and just bite the bullet.
It was an awful deal.
And again, like, Benning just like eight years there.
and it's stunning they're already back to playoffs
because he was a masterclass on like bad decisions
we have better things to discuss I think so
but whenever in that dead money
whenever Vancouver and Edmonton come into the conversation
he does he was excited
starts to tweak a little bit
Shirelli and Ben gave us so much
and the league is better when you have
pick up the phone this guy calls because you can
flee somebody back or yes we just not don't make guys anymore
um you were very excited earlier
You thought you'd hit payday.
You're talking about baseball.
We'll watch.
We'll start with it because the Mets and Phillies.
Two days ago we showed you that crazy game from Philadelphia.
They went to City Field, almost called it Shay, getting old.
City Field Mets and Phillies.
And because you had the big polar bear on a parlay for a whole run.
Here was game three from City Field yesterday.
Now remember, this is best of fives.
Yeah.
Right?
And he swings at the first pitch, launches it to-night, back Castilehouse, Piano-Lenzzo, back at City Field, 1-0-0-0.
You need a bet.
I was one.
This time, Linker quakes it.
It's a no-doubt shot.
Upper Dick, 2-0.
It's no ambition.
Lig it.
It's great.
And I won't that picture.
May I quite leave him.
Yeah.
Orte hits it into center field.
Back and stand.
Nembo scores.
Here comes the Lamanzo.
Martin, Mutz fan.
You're kind of puckered.
It's the playoffs.
You just lost game two in Philadelphia.
You go to the ballpark here.
And they're just throwing the runs on the board.
It's 2-0.
We're feeling good.
Now it's 4-0.
I add another couple.
Beers are cold.
Hot dogs are tasty.
So the Mets win it.
Not a great.
Oh.
Not a great call.
stretch it there. But hey, a couple runs came in.
A couple runs came in. So the Mets
take it 7-2 and having two games
to one, lead in the best of five. So
next game's a big one.
And I got my Piedelonzo.
You got your Piedelonso home run.
I need one more. You need one more. And that
was in the Padres and Dodgers. And if you like the
Jesse Winker shot, you're going to love
one coming up here from... Henry Winkler? What?
No, no. You're going to love the one coming
up here because the crowd in San Diego,
They're out of their,
they're out of their gourd right now.
As it's, what's it called?
Peckis.
Petco.
Because it was Qualcomm.
Is that where the Chargers played?
Yeah, the Q was a dump.
Jack Murphy Stadium was originally what it was called.
Yeah.
The Padrears got a nice downtown stadium.
Chargers didn't they go.
Yeah.
Fernando Tatis Jr.
is hitting the cover off the ball.
Game three.
Tited a game of a piece after the Splitsy.
He did.
The Chavez Ravine.
and 13 in innings. On 3-2, Lucky Betts, hooks a fly ball, down the left field line. ProFar back,
he's at the law, and the same spot as last game. Different result. Nearly an instant replayed,
ProFar and Betts coming together at the wall, and now they're going to officially signal a home
of the line. Bess was so filled with bad luck. He started working out. Greg.
Up, Jackie, boy.
See, it's more here. Bouncing ball towards.
the medal run a come in from third everybody's safe and the game is tied
coverage against in the national league with two strides ground ball down the
final set about for parotta Padres have taken the lead one run is in here comes another
luck so hang on to her a two-run double from david parolta on an o two-one-chette's
initial he turned out no tight today's junior
Electric.
The crowd.
Oh, let's want over the plate.
Send in the ear to deep center field.
Merrill's going back.
He's at the law.
It's a grand slam and a brand-law game.
This one.
We're home.
Cool.
Nope.
Hang on.
It's six to five.
What a duck mall out there?
Meask Hernandez.
That's right.
All-seasoned,
the twists and the turns of the punch.
and counter punches.
Stay off bits.
Game!
Planet Jones
Teddy getting through.
It's just
like.
There's a few
cities and few series
for the games
just been nuts.
Really,
the one.
Colano
and Batista.
Give a date.
Like, this is that love.
It's me,
Mario.
That, you talk about
the photo. That shot
from the,
whatever,
from the, from the
dugout of Tatee's hitting that bomb and the crowd coming out of their seat.
I have no idea what that would feel like, but wouldn't you love maybe down the road with
AI and virtual reality, maybe we'll be able to know what that feels like, but to stand in the
box and connect on a ball like that.
True.
In a playoff game, good Lord, I can't imagine the adrenaline, the roar of the crowd.
that must go through your bond.
Scientifically, how would you even measure?
Adrenaline levels in your brain?
Like, geez.
No, and look, there's two rounds left.
That's why this stuff's the best.
This is only, this is the first real series.
The rest are just wildcard shorties.
And for Teoscar and Andes.
Teoscar and Andes.
I mean, it's a grand slam.
Didn't win.
Move on.
Next game's a big one.
They win that game.
That is called in Dodgers' lore forever.
That's like Kirk Gibson, home run.
Yeah.
to stop, yeah. Grand Slam.
So they got a chance to win at home or they have to go back to L.A.?
Chance at home.
That's what I mean.
If they have a chance at home and if they don't, they have to go back to Laleigh.
I thought you were asking me.
Certainly not a question.
But sadly for Rett, it wasn't.
Right, because you came in, like I had an anytime home run for a lawn zone.
Like, yeah, he hit in the.
Did Alon get a dinger?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Did Tatis?
Yes.
Oh, he did for sure.
Wow.
Very excited.
There was fist pumps.
Slam the top of his computer.
Checking to see how much.
He's a game Hutton, baby.
Checking to see how much I made.
And?
Otani.
Huh?
It wasn't Tatis.
It was.
Oh, again, a very good player.
Did he hit home run them?
No.
Ah, sorry.
He didn't, though.
Does it count for, because I'm sure he'll hit one at some point.
Or was it just yesterday?
Damn.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I was buying lunch.
Really?
Yeah.
Stakes.
Wow.
God damn it.
Shoha.
You suck, Tony.
Can you share some?
Or the guy that didn't take Tatee, stamp him?
No, no, no.
Sheld.
It's a big day.
We've got a lot to get into.
Let's get right to the Pender report.
It is a presentation of Village Honda, located in the Northwest Auto Mall.
If any word on any update.
on the rims and tires for your...
No quotes yet, but, uh, yes, there's still contact there.
We, uh, probably want to make that decision pretty quick here.
Yeah, I'm right sense.
It's Calgary.
We're taking another patio day taking for granted yesterday.
Beautiful.
It's not supposed to be this nice this time here.
Let's keep this rolling.
No one's speaking anything and more about it.
Cold weather coming.
The snow is coming.
Get your vehicle in to village Honda.
Maybe it's to put those winters on.
Maybe it's to get brand new winters on the rims, put them on.
Or just an overall service to make sure all your fluids,
everything is ready for the cold snap that is unfortunately coming.
It's Village Honda located in Northwest Automol and online at VillageHonda.com, and they present.
Rang dinda. Rindindon.
I almost hit him with the shovel.
The Pender Report.
Fellas, it is a Calgary Flames game day.
As you know, let's get excited.
It is the Vancouver Canucks.
It is their former 39-goal sniper Andre Kuzmanko and the Calgary Flames visiting.
It is the first of 82.
just palpable the excitement
let's go
is that the one I don't know that
palpable
palpable
palpable
I know it's
you can get either palpable
or no palpable
I brought a fan
at the palp or no palp
are you a palp
or no palp for your OJ
no palp
okay
so you can actually get extra palper
it's called months
that's true
you better go buy some palp
or no palp right now
because things are going to go
to hell down in that Florida
yeah that's true
all I'm thinking about
it actually we could use some tea palp in the bathroom down the hall because
somebody's going to be left stranded there it's going to be a bad day for somebody pretty
quick uh dab ladar's going to start fellas we didn't really know but it kind of been angling a
little this way when you send a team on the road in the preseason it's the b squad when you play
at home in the preseason it's your a squad dad ladar got the a squad games and dust and wolf got
the b squad games and frank sarah valley noted that this morning ladar is the man to open the season for
the Calgary Flames, which then opens the door to, well, what about the Flames Home Opener on
Saturday when they host Philly? And I think tonight's results certainly would play a role in that.
If Dan Bladar looks awesome, why not let him go Saturday? You got a back-to-back. Sunday, you're up in
Edmonton. Both are going to play on the weekend, I'd assume, but it is going to be interesting
to see how La Barber, Sigelette, Huska, and company manage these two goalies in terms of the
back and forth, because both of them have a lot of potential. And,
Both of them have a lot at stake, but neither have solidified themselves ever as a number one in this league.
You know, their combined starts are less than 100.
And hard to forecast, because like we talked about it, I'll be it briefly yesterday.
If one guy starts playing great, okay, we can ride, we can ride it for a while.
But if it's, if it's going to be inconsistent, then I, I don't know.
It's, is 50-50.
I don't know.
Of course it is, right?
Yeah, someone's going to take this job.
And so if Dan Valor Hanks at zero tonight, yeah, you can start on Saturday,
but I did home, you get our home opener.
If Danville are let some four, like, yeah, Dustin, you're going at home.
Get ready.
This is your chance, buddy.
Because with these unknowns, you can map out a plan if you're those guys.
Okay, here's what we're doing for October and here's what we're doing for November by next weekend.
You could just crumple it.
I would throw, I hope they don't have one.
Yeah.
I would think they have a broad plan of how much they would like to give each other opportunities.
But I think what is built into that plan is someone gets hot and plays three out of four.
So we'll see how that goes for the opinion.
UFA.
DaVlodar liked the news this morning
that Joey DeCard got paid.
All you have to do apparently is have one good year
and you can make five times five.
You're going to use this until Joey DeCard
shows you that he's a good goal.
And I would trust,
I would trust Noodle's opinion on Joey Decord.
I don't think he's bad goal.
It's just like,
would you put him ahead of a lot of guys making three
right now?
You always say that the cap's going up
so that it's a percentage, it's not actual money.
Why didn't they start him yesterday around if he's their best goal?
Home opener?
You always have a,
dank comment about it.
Just ask it.
I mean,
it's pinderees.
Yeah.
The cap goes up
except if you're,
yeah, if he wants to argue
a darnel nurse
or it doesn't matter.
That's,
that's just,
Joey DeCord.
So I'm going to pick deals
that I like and it's going to be
good under the cap.
And if they're bad,
I'm not going to talk
about the cap going up.
It's all this deal,
D.
I don't know about me.
Do you like this deal?
I don't know.
Shet about Joey DeCard.
Isn't that wild that we're paying
a $5 million bucks that we don't know about?
I don't know.
It's the first time in national history,
So yes, I was, I mean, I'm not going to flog this as being a,
I probably might not bring it up ever again.
Yeah, it's just odd.
I'm not saying it's going to be an awful deal.
It's just unusual to see you guys played so little,
get so much money.
It feels like Miko Koskinet.
Like when it's like guys with 29 games in the league,
they go on a four-year extension, Shirelli special.
Doesn't it?
That's a good point.
Like, Ken happens to Shirelli mentions on the show.
Yeah, we'll get her a quote up pretty quick here.
Don't worry.
Day one.
We saw the lines yesterday, nothing's changed.
Hansick up top with Cadre and Cozmanco,
you've got a back on the line,
the Silver spoon,
the silver spoon on this kid.
Like, it's just handing him.
Come on, make him earn.
You don't mean that. The one guy that earns it in camp.
He gets mad. Yeah.
The thing.
Manta Paws was still,
Huberto be something to watch.
I don't think Manta's overwhelmed.
In a good or a bad way? Well, in the wild card
sense, because the potential
and the skills of Manta and Huberto are world class,
and yet they've been two of the more disappointing players
in the league the last two years.
And now you put a shit-disturber between them.
Does that get them engaged?
Does it not fit at all?
Are we shuffling the deck immediately?
If you have a six-foot-four sniper who shoots it a ton
and he's a free agent that signs a one-year deal in his prime
at mid-money, it tells you there's something missing
and GMs have quit on him around the league.
That's Anthony Manfred.
And now we're hearing like, man,
if you could just get 60 points out of the Hubert,
So wouldn't that be great?
That's the worst 10.5 million you can spend in the league period.
Stop.
And in the middle is the guy we all love.
This line is just full of, it's a powder cake to me.
At Flames Nation.com, I'm not sure if it's up yet, but Robert Munich sent us to notes.
A, we've got some questions here for the league.
Previous.
She's preview.
And he asked about who do you think, and we'll maybe talk about it.
Potential disappointments on the flames.
Who's surprised a good way?
Who's going to surprise him?
And I guess you have to have a certain expectation level for them to,
fall beneath it. And I don't know what people are expecting for Anthony Mathith.
I had said, I remember, was that draft in Jersey when he was drafted. And I remember we were
along the wall there. And I forget who it was, right, to put it down. And the guy, Anthony
Math, that's a pretty good pick. Quebec major junior league, six, four goal score.
What's his junior numbers for goals? Because people are trying to say he's a passer here in the
50 and 67 in his draft year, had 57 and 57 the year after. Like sniper. Yeah. Then a couple of
years in Grand Rapids as you do at that time when you're a Detroit Red Wing and then came up 17 goals then
24 then 25 and I just remember yeah that's skeleton he was like this guy that's a pretty damn good
pick and because Kirby Reichel went before Mirko Mueller I think the guy that they traded here for
from Ottawa Curtis Lazar was taken there and then it kind of and then there was some injuries
and then there's a shortened season and then there's COVID and things he had 23 goals last year between
Washington and Vegas, which kind of surprised me.
And I just down the deaf shirt in Vegas too.
Like he still.
And I thought he might fit good there.
I thought so too.
Fit well there.
And he ended up being a healthy scratch down the stretch and into the playoffs.
So I don't know.
I just,
what's he,
what's the motivation?
What's driving him right now?
A career.
If he can't produce here,
it's over.
Like,
sorry,
what other team are you going to get top power play unit and get put with their next,
their best player?
It's a great spot for him for sure.
If he can't do it here,
he's PTO territory.
boys because
goal try to
slot him in a contending team
he's giving in the second power play
like this is a pure pump and dump
plan for Connie
showcase the hell out of them put them next to good players
load them with those own starts
and then at the deadline try to do what they did last year in Washington
which is to ship moan get some asset
I think we talked about it last week maybe when Ryan wasn't here
when you're that when you're that guy
and you're that big yes
if you're not working
at a high level,
you stand out as looking really lazy.
Because the thing is, there's smaller guys
that don't have the ability to just lean on people
and use their physicality easily.
So if you're not going to score,
it should be easy to impact the game.
You just have to want it.
And that's kind of the knock here.
And he's not physical.
No, and the only reason he's here is to score and get points.
So if you don't score and you don't get points,
what are you doing?
You're losing a job.
So I kind of wonder what this year.
Yeah. And look, we're playing the what if game.
all the reason they sign him are still there.
He can absolutely shoot at a ton.
He's an offensively gifted player,
and he might click with Uber.
That's why that line's fascinating.
Yeah, because when you look at the biggest surprise,
biggest disappointment,
I might have him in both.
I think he could have 25 goals and be like,
holy shit.
Or he could be just a dud out there.
We talk about expectations.
I think a reasonable one is that given who he's playing with
and where he's going to play in the minutes he's going to get
and the quality of minutes he's going to get,
you'd want to see at least 20 goals here.
Yeah.
Right?
Oh, I think.
Yes.
And if you really want it to be a success story,
flirt with 30 and now you can spin them into a second round or the deadline.
To a team that can't score.
I'll say the Islander's going to run or something.
If all these guys accomplish the ifs that we keep bringing.
President's trophy, right?
Then we probably, yeah.
We might not be dumping.
Like, seriously.
Yeah, but you got all the guys that careers last year.
They don't do that again.
Like, I don't have Coleman down for 30 this year.
I don't think McKenzie Uighers Sques 20 this year.
There's a lot arguing that they were going to be better than I thought.
No, I was discounting that you guys just ignored the two months when they had a shitty roster.
And you said, well, they're not as good as last year of paper.
Well, after the deadline they are, we're stupid.
I can't keep up.
Next.
Pinderies.
You need to be fluent at it.
Okay, four new flames making their debut tonight.
We mentioned math, mantha.
There's three others.
The kid.
The kid, Hans, it's two.
And then.
Flapka.
although I guess he played
six years.
Defenseman,
old man used to work for the flames.
Beiner?
Beiner's in there.
I don't know what the lineup is, so I can't.
Longberg's already plays the flame.
Of course, he's the reacquisition.
Then the answer,
the answer was ball.
Oh, it's balls.
I don't have anything balls related here.
Come on.
He's got balls.
I got some.
It's. So I'm welcome to Vancouver,
all the town.
Not mentioned his name at all.
I mean, you heard,
but let's keep it that way.
If he's going to be that defenseman you never mentioned
that plays on the second pair.
I was going to say,
doesn't he feel like that?
Yes.
That might just be him.
Yes.
Who was the guy we got back of that trade?
I don't remember.
Who's the guy?
I don't know.
What number?
Some of those d men,
you don't want to mention.
The way he plays,
don't need him mentioned.
Like, if he wants push pile now and then,
that's fine.
It's not his ammo,
but he's big.
He'll do his job.
It's not a shit,
disturb,
but he'll protect him.
Stick up for teammates,
But this is a guy who is a shot suppression defender.
When he's on the ice, there's not a lot of action around your net.
Did you like that?
What the.
A shot suppression?
Suppression defender.
So you know those heat maps that you always make fun of?
I never had any of that.
It's a heat, heat score.
A heat seeker.
When he's on the ice, you're not allowed to reach alms.
That's good.
Now, the flip side is he's not creating much offense.
It's a Hall fame career over here, off the glass of note.
Hall of Fame career. Great, Corsi.
That's a little thing.
I mean, he's the defensive side of the course.
He'd be really good.
I don't have the offensive course.
He's like, good.
Let's go to Vancouver friends.
Lineup looks like this for those conucleheads.
They're missing a few notable names of injury.
Dakota Joshua re-inked in the summer.
He was really good in the playoffs for them.
Demko's hurt as well.
He's been hurt since the playoffs.
Missed that series against the Oilers
who really could have saved us some pain that summer
if we had Besser and Demko going there against the evil empire.
Wasn't to be.
Hinen, Millie.
and Bess are up top.
Newcomer, Jake DeBrusk, gets
Elias Patterson treatment, which can be great at times.
Daniel Sprong as well, a newcomer they've liked in preseason.
Hoglander, Pughes, Souter,
and Connor Garland, the third line,
and Nils Ammon, Teddy Ballugar, and Kiefer Sherwood,
Keefer? That is right.
Hughes, Heronik, Susie Myers, and then the newcomer
are drug sugar,
Derek Foreboard, left side of the pair,
mutant Vinnie Dayharnay,
the former oiler on the right side is they've replaced
these Hadorov slot with some big boys there.
Not that Zedorov was small, but yeah, they get a lot of big, tall.
Or it's a big boy, Deharnaysa,
and Logan as well, yeah.
And it'll be Shilov's carrying the mail with Lankan and until
we get some sort of an idea of what things are going to look like this year for Demko,
whether that's spotting him in occasionally or let him get fully healthy
and bringing him back later in the air.
No one seems to know it.
I don't think, yeah, he doesn't know, doctors don't know.
It's got that, can we talk to Secaris about it?
Pyriformis, martyrous, per bad.
It's the pre-fab.
It was the Tortorella Hartley muscle.
Remember that one?
Something like that.
Because when it flares up, things get crazy.
Because Calgary Vancouver, I remember laying here, Jack.
That's right.
How old were Jack, were you in diapers than this happened?
I don't like the way he does business.
I don't like them.
That's torts on Hartley.
And that was in the wake of one of the greatest puck drops we've ever seen.
now did in canucks flames history it's the 13th season opener boys but it'll be tough to be this opening there's glen
who would be a flans assistant on the canucks oh he plays it's nice just sit back and enjoy crank it's jack
and here we go every bench line ball to start this game west garth and bx are separate it's justino
mcgladen back at the blue line forks is angry is he ever he's looking directly at the calendar
place bench. So we got two fights going on.
7 VX is now the
Schmead on the airborne, that's West Gart and the lane.
Here the Van Prylaborne level, Sustito and McGratton
go out into the county, D-Y.
Welcome to the NHL, Kellen Lane.
handling himself really well, too, considering his opponent.
Lane is 6'4-6.
McGratton just got the best of Sistito.
Prellis, still yelling a bob,
oddly who's not even coming over there.
He's in a conversation.
Foodler?
Torts is, geez.
You made ball like Geston Burroughs.
And now Ehrlich comes over
as some of the flames have gone to.
Wards, though.
Photographers make between the benches.
The connoes were there,
Burles in his first game back,
look at the...
Sheen O'Brien around his post was all.
That's normally the other end of the bench
is waiting down by the forwards.
On the 20s.
It doesn't look like Torres got anywhere near Hartley.
How close was he?
Oh, he was very close.
If you're familiar, like you're
with Rogers Arena, where the dentist chair is in the Canucks Home Dressier,
it leads right into the visiting room hallway.
So I was in there.
I had a timid of misconduct, me and Cassie and our little disagreement at the end of the first.
And I was in there taking my skates off and I kind of saw Harley come walking in.
And then I heard some commotion.
I stood up and look back.
Bigger and the peacekeeper.
Two steps away from him.
And if it wasn't for Brian McGratton to get in there and step in his way,
I would have a front row seat for Torrelle and Harley.
And I would have no problem with that at the time.
and I probably wouldn't even in Torrance's corner chair for him.
So it was an old school moment.
Torz was losing his mind.
And he's y'all at me.
He's y'all at everyone.
I'm trying to explain there.
There's a Hawkingen camera right there, Torz.
But he didn't care at all.
So, you know, that's how Torz is.
He's a fiery guy.
And I'm glad to see he's doing all in Columbus now.
Warms your heart, boys.
Feels like yesterday.
I feel like tonight's matchup may have a hard time living up to that.
Yeah.
We don't really reach for the most pedestrian flames.
He's got to play, uh,
Connox games and we look back,
that one was unbelievable.
Brought you by Bob Hartley.
Yes.
I want a Jack Adams and then quickly.
Yeah.
Well, that was Torz's one year in Vancouver.
Yeah.
Five year deal.
And he was going to be done too.
I remember like, I guess torts his war.
Oh, he's, we're done with this.
What it reminds you of is that you can work in New York and you can work in
Italy and you can work in big markets in the states and the hockey.
It is nowhere near the temperature.
Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto.
Those are insane markets.
In New York, you're the fifth biggest team, maybe the fourth.
In Philly, it's the third of the fourth.
These, it was a totally different climate.
He put the wrong old A-net for an indoor out there,
giving me a BC place, and it was over.
The thing about Taurus, though.
I don't think it's the climate of the, he doesn't get a business.
I couldn't handle it.
No, I think he could get a job in a Canadian market again.
I don't think he could go.
So you think that it was the Vancouver media
that intimidated John Torderoa?
No, I think it was just right from the get-go.
It was barking at guys in press.
Like, everything was combative out of the gate.
He had Larry Brooks to do with in New York for a decade.
One guy.
And it was like every time he met.
What's that?
Who was his later?
Everyone.
There's 15 media outlets.
I don't.
I don't know what you're.
So for one year, why was it over one year in?
Because the media was hard on him?
I was just, no.
I mean, because if you, if you start a different goalie in New York, who cares?
It's front page news in Vancouver.
How could you do?
that to Roberto Luongo, who was just shopping for an apartment, now he wants to trade.
If you did that in Jersey to Martin Broder, you did that in Colorado, to Patrick
Wye, it would have been a story.
On page three, maybe.
I think that he could get a job again because what does he think?
He comes in and he turns teams around and then wears out his welcome.
But I don't think that he was fired in Vancouver after one year because he couldn't get
along with the media or because he put Eddie Lacken on the outdoor game.
It was bad from day one there.
It was weird.
Anyway, that was memorable flames, canucks.
Hey, there was some hockey last night.
Early candidate for goal of the year.
I'm not going to show you the goal.
I'm going to show you the score line, if that's all right.
Is that okay?
So we'll go to Pinder reports.
It's St. Louis.
Broberg from Holloway.
Nothing else matters.
That goal of the year candidate in Calgary.
It's all I need to see.
Wasn't it beautiful?
How did they go in?
No, I didn't see it.
What do you mean?
Goal of the air.
Look at this.
My kids really got that stuff.
Yeah.
He's got what it takes.
I love to see.
that.
Bill Morgan
get on the sheet there too.
Bill.
And Vinnie Dunn
got walked by Hansick
in the preseason.
Now the games matter.
Look at that.
Scores.
He's ready.
It's good.
Hey,
congrats to Ebs for being the captain.
Yeah,
they announced that.
What?
Ready for a puck truck truck?
Bruce Greens golf member.
Much play it out there.
It makes one of you,
eh?
Mm-hmm.
Someone sold his,
I think.
Shoulders.
In fairness,
it was the right decision.
The Seattle fans,
they're kind of getting into it.
I want someone
with this guy's having
because I hadn't seen this before.
This is quite, uh,
I don't.
Oh, so you dressed up for Halloween?
What's Halloween?
It's 1.30 in the afternoon.
I'm going to a sporting event.
Are you now?
How do you even watch out of that shit?
And the gloves are important, too.
Well, the hands.
Yeah.
It's not, uh, it's not complete without those.
Yeah.
Oh, then.
Yeah.
To eat corn.
You're four for Seattle.
It's tough to eat corn for sure.
Jeez.
Could you hold.
my tentacles, I would like to have some popcorn.
We loosely alluded to it.
Carter for Hagee,
New Deal, stay in the sun,
as they all do, apparently.
An eight-year extension,
A-AV of seven.
Here's your ring.
Oh, do you want, look at, what's this
on my money, this,
what's this piece of paper
under my ring?
Oh, that's a contract card.
Contract extension for eight years. Well, you do have to
plates tonight, yeah, it'll be tough. No, you just
absolutely snot bubbled your rivals.
That would have been fun too. Good night.
Hell of a playoff performer. We've talked about it a lot over the years.
Overtime winners, series winners, elevates when it matters.
Pretty cool story.
Because was he a leaf draft pick, wasn't he?
And then kind of bounced around and it went to Tampa, wins a cup, goes to Florida, wins a cup.
Yep.
Good player.
Joy to court.
I'm not allowed to have a take on this contract.
It's a very normal thing to do.
Five times five, Dean.
You can have a take.
It's just we're going to hear.
about it for all all i said it was odd and i think we it's not what you said okay what did i say oh joey d'court
you'd like you laid into it into it didn't make sense you got into it with noodles we didn't
we didn't we didn't talk about me for not knowing why grubauer started yesterday he talked about
decor and grubauer before dust and wolf and dablet are if this guy gets five this year
a didn't hells the uffa this summer so why are you mad oh joe no it's just these guys
are looking at chops i mean that jeez like what's what's uh just erkenworth this guy's
fine shit well if joey plays well and look he might he might be a great goalie sure i will say
this uh feels like a overpay and not sure what uh how much leverage is joey to court have that's
that's what yes not that he can't be a good goalie it's just like how at this point of his career
is it like we got to go five times five now hey joey we want to offer you a contract okay five
years at three. What's Joey
saying? No, right? Yeah,
I feel like he's signing that. Maybe he's older than we think.
Because he was an expansion draft guy out of
Ottawa and it's like maybe UFC's coming soon, but
it's just a lot of money for a guy that's set a very, very small
bit of very nice play. Enter.
Yes.
Like that's the pen, pen, pen, pen,
give me a pen. Signing that as
quickly as you can. Would you spend the Astor 3 in a court to get
Jeremy Swyman instead of this guy?
I might.
So, and if you missed it, he was back last night.
Not the best night for the Bruins.
Not his fault.
Not his fault.
And sway dog?
No, it's not his, it's, hey, don't overreact.
I mean, that great regular season.
I thought he was employed.
Oh, look, here he is.
Buddy, yeah.
I got you.
Have it go ahead.
Get some.
Yeah.
Do some knucks.
Get some fist pops.
Yeah, well have better nights later.
I had the, I got you, dog.
I got you.
All the rosters are officials,
official for the 32 teams. You have 23 man or less rosters. What's the breakdown by country?
That's a peak as yeah, still a cannabis game, right? Did you know that? Yep.
297, 200 Americans, 66 Swedes, 47 Russians, 38 Finns, 22 checks, nine Swiss, and then I'll
let you guys try to guess maps. I was going to say, this is very good. Right. You've done well.
There's a German in there. What's the eight there? Give us that country.
That's Slovakia. That's true.
Correct. Okay, next one down. Seven.
Seven Germans. What's below Germany?
Norwegian. No. Latvia?
Denmark.
That is...
Amsterdam?
That is...
He's taking a run at us.
Yeah. No, no. That's Latvia. Because if you look down at the bottom with one,
there are two almost identical flags with a stripe in the middle, skinnier.
I believe Austria is down there at one. Latvia's got five.
Denmark at four.
Two from Belarus?
I believe the flight is up in Belarusians?
Yeah.
Norway, two. One Kiwi? Yeah. Are the guys in Washington for a while?
Is that him? And then a French, Dutch, and Slovenian, Anzi Kopitar at the bottom.
And what are the Netherlands? That's Daniel Sprong, I believe, who is the Dutch, the Netherlands, and Holland.
He's Hollandease. That's what they're Hollande sauce. It seems delicious. So good.
Nate McKinnon's in mid-season form. It might be early in the season, but he's already done with the media and dumb media questions.
Watch the body language. Listen to the awkwardness and the cringy too long question. This is peak pain.
The first game, I'm sure, you know, I know it's always exciting, but I guess just how are you feeling about where you're at?
I know you said this is a summer of recovery for you. How are you feeling now with Camp Raptup?
Good, man.
So get excited for the first game of the season, especially going to do with building like Vegas.
Yeah, I've been. Regardless to the building, just looking to get a win.
If you watch any of the face-off show that came on us, I haven't watched any of that.
What was the experience like having those guys around and the cameras around?
I didn't do it.
You were in an interview.
Oh.
Do interviews right now, too.
I don't know.
I guess I'm used to it now.
Yeah, it is what it is, I guess, for sure.
You were just talking to CMAC before, and he was talking about, you know, just the
bodies you guys have out that the first month of the season is going to be a little of a grind.
I know it's not really something you're focused on, but.
Have those been any part of the conversation you guys have had that you got to be, I don't know if there's any more to dig into the first month here?
I don't know.
I think everyone at this point is just looking to be their best.
I mean, the end of the day, that's what you really get judged on is how you play, how you help the team play.
Oh, is that painful?
Yeah.
It's good, right?
It's great.
It's cringy.
Because here's the thing, like, this is a part of the job they hate to do most of them.
And some guys are good at it.
And some can really hide their disdain for it well.
but others can't.
I don't think he was attempting to hide it.
I think he was trying to send a message that fellas,
not feeling it today.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And again, this is he after a third loss in our own in the road in February
when you're, it's minus 28 in Winnipeg.
We haven't played a game yet.
He's already miserable.
It might be because the cameras were around.
Hey, you know what?
Maybe.
There was something else going on that day.
Could be.
I think Nate's a very nice guy.
I think he's right.
I don't give a shit.
What do you say to those things?
even the best in the world sometimes are done with me we saw austin matthews with the steve simmons
yeah steves steves and connor mac david was chatting with mark specter who i think they get along great
listen to the vibes here it's good stuff car you're rest of your map for game stuff last year and saw
i saw your shaltz uh is there anything when you know a total devastation
enough about last year enough about last year we're done
Speck is a strong enough reporter, though.
He's not going to give up on it.
He's like, no, no, no, no.
You're going to answer my damn question.
Because I thought, oh, this, and I put some time it ever into it.
Total devastation.
Enough about last year.
I don't want to talk about it.
So, dumb media questions.
These guys making $12 million a year,
it's a tough four minutes of their day, right?
It is a tough four minutes.
And they are dumb media questions,
but what are you supposed to ask?
Hasn't played a game.
Nothing matters until spring with this team.
anyway, fellas.
I have to write.
Honestly, if the oil is finished second and the division,
doesn't even matter.
I have to write something.
No, fourth.
Tonight, I need something to go on.
The Steve Simmons one, he was,
oh, the guys would basketball make this kind of money.
Quarterbacks are making them 60.
Do you think hockey players make the money that they should?
Boston Matthews.
Steve.
Steve, I don't know.
It's a privilege plainly.
Steve understands the NFL makes more money in the NHL, right?
We don't have to explain that to the locker room.
It's going to all be gone.
if I don't get in there, Steve.
You guys know I love my stats, right?
What?
Yeah, like numbers, like odd.
I never thought about that.
This is an amazing stat with Cleveland Browns,
which is Jack's most hated team,
their rival of the Steelers.
Deshawn Watson has more settled lawsuits
than touchdowns since being traded to the Browns.
Good numbers.
Broad law.
Dean, horrible numbers on both accounts.
Yeah.
You're like one to be zero, and you're like the other to be more than 19?
Well, at least one higher than the other.
And if you have to have me and McLeod Law.
Yeah.
Peter Klein, McLeod-Dash.
We'll move.
Saints didn't want not look good on Monday night.
No.
We should have played this yesterday because I bet you they couldn't get dilly poop right on Monday night against the Chiefs.
Well, what happened was that second game, we got our ass kicked.
The second half, we just got our ass totally kicked.
We couldn't do dilly, poo, offensively.
We couldn't make a first down.
We couldn't run the ball.
We didn't try to run the ball.
We couldn't complete a pass.
We sucked.
The second half, we sucked.
We couldn't stop the run.
Every time they got the ball and went down and got points,
we got our ass totally kicked in the second half.
That's what it boiled down to.
It was a horsesh performance in the second half.
I'm totally embarrassed and totally ashamed.
coaching our coaching did a horrible job the players did a horrible job we got our ass kick in that second half
it sucked it's stuck see now that's how you answer immediate question no further questions i have
nothing else that was good yeah i'm done here we guys yeah okay thanks coach
Covered it.
Playoffs.
Don't talk about it.
Playoffs?
I thought Dennis Allen was coached to say, so I didn't know that Jim
Boer was still there.
He should have just read the script.
Yeah.
Mara game.
That was a good one.
The Tissom run, the visuals are unreal.
Let's go back to the baseball you alluded to earlier.
It's unreal.
It's the vibe.
It's a power.
It's the feel of connecting on a ball.
that hard with the bat in your
hand and then feeling the adrenaline
rush when the crowd, an entire
stadium, whatever, 47,000
I think they said, to their feet.
So this would be different than anyone at Oakland Coliseum this year?
Is that what you're saying?
That's 70.
You can try
or you can try all kinds of things,
hey, Red? You're not going to find it.
If you don't believe me, well, even the blanket
182 guys were there and they had some fun at one of the this was a 70th stretch i don't even know but
they're their floor in it in san diego with this incredible ballpark
it's the excited from the white singer
pump glove
yeah and this cretas
but a deep heat up out of our traps
just a
why that's not tough what i don't know like
1802's lead singer's probably like 50 now oh yeah and that's you know what that's
oddly become kind of a sports anthem.
Yeah, Colorado.
In Buffalo,
Allen and the tight end,
Kincaid,
they were like playing the air guitar to it
during one of the TV timeouts.
The crowd has won the cup,
and they played that every game.
Really?
Yeah, it's a good.
And in Calgary.
99.
I think it's that second TV timeout
in the third period is usually when the Flames
game day ops will play a song,
and it's either,
you know, Sridon, Carolina,
or country roads
thank you sorry yeah
friends in places yeah those are the
and this is another one they'll mix in as well it's just
who doesn't love singing that soft work sucks
I know the sweet Carolina
it's a Boston thing
it's kind of like the Red Sox have been doing that forever you could
probably Tuscaloosa they play Alabama
Mountain music that's right
It's Alabama and I guess the gators
they play well back down
Tom Petty
hey Ben just want to have fun
I don't have fun
MJ's doing okay
Girls just want to have fun too
Hate that song
If I never hear that song again in my life
I'm totally fine
That's the one of the just
She's so unusual
Oh
Terrible
Sorry Ryan
You know another one he hates sneakily
I think he just don't play it
Thin Lizzie
Boys are back in town
It's terrible sir
The boys are back
Where's back in town
For eight years
I worked in Brandon
Between radio and television
and whenever the Weakings had a whole or came back from a road trip
they would have the radio commercials which I would have to voice
like all that is like a fan
we get it they were on the road now they're bad it's
the boys are back a down yeah tonight at the keast kill me
I don't know why they makes me so hot it's the most like he's so good at it
really Chris Phillips and the Prince Albert Raiders
are in town to take on Chris Dingman
and the Brandon Weekie.
Oh, it's a back of town.
Hey, can we get you to redo that?
Actually, they want to go with Dennis Peterson
instead of Chris Phillips.
Fuck.
Pete Roe was before he passed,
said he probably lost $200 million
with the whole gambling thing knocking into the Hall of Fame.
Still sold a lot of baseballs signed in Vegas, I'm sure.
You're kind of like, wow, it sounds like a lot of money.
But then you're looking at guys that, you're not the exact same time
him, but greatest
Hall of Fame kind of like
defining an era players. MJ's
doing all right. Check this out.
Is he the greatest ever, but I'm probably
other guys. This is his
P-Chains.
I think that retails for a cool
70 plus M. I was going to say
because it wasn't it like 68.
Yeah. And the
artwork slash paint jobs
wrap was
a significant investment as well.
Definitely.
would be paying the luxury tax here in Canada.
Yeah.
That's not a necessary mode of transportation.
I wonder how many hundreds of millions he's lost gambling.
Is that a hybrid?
Well, he still made in his hundreds, but yeah, he did like a good wage.
That's a last dance show.
Yeah.
Quarters to the wall gambling, like anything, golf.
Everything was a bet.
Yeah.
I will out-compete you.
Bet, bet.
We've got to fail here.
What's our fail, Jack?
It looks like some guys were getting on those scooters, which are awesome.
trying to start today.
Let's get ripped down the front
to the iPhone.
I'm out of here.
Yeah.
Have a new drop.
Would you like it?
Yeah, please.
Some people are really fucking stupid.
Love George Carlin.
You should have a hundred George Carlin.
Do we have the other George Carlin?
I don't know how...
No, I don't think I have that.
I do have some...
Some dumb ones.
Keep batting.
See his little toy he's got over there?
He's so happy.
Can you close your eyes and just press one around?
Hey, T-E-E-D-E-E-D-E?
This one's for Pat!
I saw Pat last night.
That was pumped to eyes.
Carrying the crowd.
And finally, I did not come back.
I have one more if you'd like.
A classic.
What's the Groundhog Day animal?
Was it a Groundhog?
Yeah.
That's the one.
Do you know what that is, Jack?
I have no idea.
Play it again.
One more time.
Take a listen.
What's the groundhog day animal?
Was it a groundhog?
Yeah.
Is that Ryan?
Before I go to his nose reamed out.
Or just right after my sinus surgery, one of the things I said stuff.
Your noise changed.
No voice changed.
It did.
I'm also stuffed up, though.
You can hear it.
Dog, give me this shit.
You got used to have a great voice for this sort of thing.
That was seem terrible.
Yeah.
Australia?
No.
We're done.
Or we're done.
We're done.
I didn't have any...
I didn't look at the right place.
I'm scared about Australia and the animals because...
Take for instance on the back of this switchboard.
This little guy here,
a little tiny spider.
He's a redback spider.
I'm actually more afraid of him and more cautious
than that little tiny thing than I am of this big,
massive huntsman here crazy hi
crazy
I'm gonna red back what are you doing that
realize that you have great momentum with your
your segment
it's escalating and then it just
flames out done
it lines up boom for a shovel
or something else if you wants
at your PIN report on a whatever day today it is
I'm doing so well
Tatis home run
crowd roaring. Yeah.
Hansman.
Read back.
Village Honda. Huge selection of used
vehicles, all makes, all models, all budgets.
You know, we talked about getting your vehicle in there.
Maybe you just feel like I don't want to take
my old jalopy
through another winter. That's the second
time I've heard the word jalopy.
Have you? Yeah, the shoveler told me she's
driving a jalopy right now.
So you need to...
You know, they're running still. Yeah.
Maybe it is
time for an upgrade.
Get to Village Honda, 90 units on site,
500 more inside the dealership group.
It's why Village Honda is your one-stop
Automotive Destination in Calgary.
They're worth the trip.
VillageHonda.com.
Good confidence.
Yeah, they do.
That they do.
They certainly, certainly do.
A quick message for our friends at Square.
Maybe if you go out and get a new jalopy,
you can do one of those.
If you, you know what Square is?
when you go and you're paying on, you're paying on it with your car.
You taparoo, that's square.
They have got it going.
It is, it's about as smooth as it gets.
If you're on a restaurant, you're too busy for this ad.
You're thinking about how to get more orders flowing, new locations, opening.
You need more customers and you need them coming back.
You're already thinking about Square because Square Restaurant Tech helps more than 400,000
restaurants do all of those things and more.
So when you're thinking about your restaurant, think bigger and think Square.
maximize your sales, make it easy to process orders,
in house with a kiosk or a mobile POS for table side orders
and online ordering for takeout and delivery.
The website, squareup.com slash,
CA slash E.N slash campaign slash big in RST
to see why Square is big in restaurants.
We've kind of gotten used to it, eh?
When it comes to paying the bill,
spin that screen around, tap, boom, done.
You know, I don't need to get up to go.
Oh, I, I,
Remember the old chich-ching, jing-tang-tang-tong-pushing buttons?
Sign here.
Do you want your copy?
Yeah, I'm ready for the bill.
Okay, if you could just come up to the come-up.
What?
I'm at my table.
Okay, I guess you don't have square.
Figure it out.
Square.
Square.
Squareup.com slash, C,A, slash, E-N-S-C-G-N-R-S-T-B-R-ST for your restaurant.
Yeah. Asked for one.
Tomorrow.
Patience fell.
Is it?
It's what's lacking.
Yeah.
I guess so.
Or we're lacking the thing.
Both.
Right.
So do we have any thoughts on the game tonight?
Other than just the pure adrenaline excitement, what are for you?
I mean, I'm excited to see Hansick in a game that matters.
It's a wild road the last month with this kid, hasn't it been?
From that first game in Penticton where he was like, I didn't even know.
notice him. Like there might be a problem here.
Yeah. I said this and I think maybe we're
all doing the show together or maybe it was just
me and it's
because of the expectation level
not being there.
I don't, it doesn't feel like you're being
fed that. I said like, you're not being
fed a bill of goods. Hey, we could be a playoff team.
I know they always have to say that, but there's no
real thought that this team is going to
outside of locker. It's going to have to have to be a playoff team.
Who is the, who was the GM that came
out right before the scene? Yeah, we're going to make
the playoffs right here to around rebuilds over no no no it was here in town um maloney from
tampa he came from tampa only was the gm that was in tampa when we calgary flame general
manager feaster feaster thank you remember you were livid you were like why would you say that
comment when he came out right before the season sir yeah he had uh like a fulken house thing yeah
we're gonna make the playoffs it's you know and it's kind of that we always play this game
where it's like you can't have it both ways where you're like
You want people to say stuff in interviews.
I don't.
Stop being dullards.
Stop giving us lawyer speak.
And then they say stuff and like, well, that's dumb.
We're going to hold that against you for a decade.
It's media being hypocritical.
But the best GMs often say nothing.
Like, when have you ever heard Lou Lamarillo say anything?
So he's like, when did you ever Bill Belichick give you anything in a press conference?
It's not in their best entrance to give you any information.
That doesn't help them.
I guess for just to kind of actually explain my point, it's not about, well, boy,
they didn't play well enough to win tonight.
I want to say, hey, Pospicel, can you take another step?
I really like Zary.
I want to see what he can do.
You know what we are this year?
Sorry for your update a little bit.
We're all GMs.
We're in for the long haul.
We're not day to day.
We're not peaks and valleys.
How did he play?
Okay.
Macro.
Yes.
Big time.
Yes.
There's going to have to be lots of big pitcher.
Some nights, this blue line's not going to be good.
And people are going to want to react to the goal in.
It's like, I'm sorry.
If you're going to allow four break.
Noodles made a good point.
You can't even analyze a team or evaluate a team if your goaltender can't stop routine bucks.
Well, and the flip side is, oh, yeah, you only had an 80.
Well, how many breakaways do you have?
Yeah.
You're right.
And that's really where the challenges.
And that's where I'm trying to lean on some of the newer numbers like goals saved above expected.
And some people's minds just exploded to hear it, but it's not crazy to suggest that we know a breakaways, a higher chance of a goal than a point shot with no screen.
Like, we get that.
There are numbers that are better than goals against the same.
percentage and I think it's probably the best way to look at
Dustin Wolf of Dan Bladar this year because
they might be facing an inordinately
high quality of shot on a regular basis.
Maybe they won't, but maybe every night
it's our end
has more high-danger chances than the opponent's end.
That wouldn't be crazy. Well, it's most likely.
Yeah. I think my expectations
are here and if at
game 82,
they've improved to here,
great. Yeah, you've worked in some kids in the new year.
Have a little better understanding
what we've got. I just hope we don't
get into the near the end of the season and they've
been playing too well
and Ryan's their chance.
Top 10 pick guys.
In this case. It's going to be.
The thing is, is that the only reason
people kind of want
to see a team near the bottom is
because you want it to be good down the road.
No one wants a bad team.
Everyone wants to win. It's just sometimes
obvious that you need to reload for your
chance to win. And if this team's playing well this year and it's on the backs of a lot of young
players that have come up from the Wranglers in the last two years, big picture that's probably
still okay. It's just that you don't have a star forward. That was Reds point last week.
You don't have a center that's under 34. If you want, you don't have a guy. You've got some good
players. You've got some players that you can like that'll be energetic that you don't have a
stud. If you had Badard here for it. Because
Then you go, Badard, Cadre, Backland, everything falls in place, and yet we'll spend a little more.
We have 20 million in cap space.
Let's go get one more D-Man for the top four.
That's fine.
Or a goalie.
But without a young center here, it is so hard to see this group competing in two years because Backland's going to be 37 and Caddry is going to be turning 36.
They don't have a center.
And maybe Possible can play center.
But I don't know anyone thinks like, oh, he's absolutely a top-sick center.
Well, they lost Cole Schwint and waivers.
I don't say it's bad management
but bad management there
Codd right so it's an 8 o'clocker tonight
that's good for me plus a little extra time
because they're going to do all
I hope to do yeah all the whoop to do you do
we've got to be sour
and then after burner
the first after burner post game of the season
tonight
but what time I mean
I'll give you this
if someone's up by six
start it whenever you want is that right
uh myself and Kamik
Kepke.
Kemi.
Gonna be doing some Afterburn.
You don't know what Afterburner is.
It's right here on the Flames Nationation on the YouTube.
It'll be on if you go on your podcast app and you look for Afterburner.
That's really you'll find that the audio will go up shortly after it.
But we'll walk through what Game 1 looks like tonight, myself and Cammy.
We do all 82 games, a little post game.
So that when you're on, though, you know, I watched the game last night.
And Bar-Burner's coming up at whatever time they start, depending on how the internet is.
And if the Internet was any good last night,
bet you I could just go and how about that?
There's fresh post game analysis.
Come hang with your buddies.
From the Barnburner boys with AfterBer.
And Cammy ends going to be,
we're going to broaden the scope.
Lots of people coming chairs.
Last year, we'll keep that going.
So that's what's coming up tonight after the big game in Vancouver.
And he, uh,
bet,
but,
but,
but there's some bets.
We can do some bets for,
uh, for Bet 365.
We talked about futures in that yesterday.
Still taking the under on that.
81.5.
We all are.
Yeah.
Taking the under on that.

action, some futures, and there there are a number of games today. Maybe the flames
connects. It's not your flavor. You can look around, but what do you got for us tonight?
I just love the Andre Kuzmanko back to Vancouver storyline. It was like, ah, we got to move
some money out. Here's this guy that scored 39 goals in his first NHL season. He was great
with the flames once he got right. He was just kind of battling a little something when he got
here and then got sick. Totally changed the power play. I love the revenge spot.
Kuzmenko over a half point, so to get a single point, minus $20.30. And then three shots
or more, that's a shot on goal milestone
is where you find that bet.
There's over understar player where you can all say, well, I want to
ladder that up or down or whatever. It's three shots,
milestone plus 150.
Go get them, Kuzman. Go make them pay.
Damn right. Very nice.
You can't if you'd like. But that's the nice thing about
Bet 3. You don't have to do that. You can do a single bet. You can parlay.
You can do whatever you want. It's right there for you. Download that app.

Whatever the sport, whatever the moment, it's never ordinary at Bet 365.
I was looking this morning because we were going to do old predictions and stuff,
but it's already well into the show.
We can do it tomorrow or whatever, I suppose.
But for Kuzmanko, once he got right and then got onto that power play,
remember the power play was dreadful all season.
And then he got a last month or so.
If not single-handedly, he was a big part of why that thing started to turn around down the stretch.
Had nine goals in his last 11 games and nine power play points in those 11 games.
I'm with you.
I think if he's right, healthy, he's going to be on the power play.
He's going to be playing on the...
It's all Kuzmanko if he wants it to be.
You're doing an NHL draft and you're picking a flame.
I don't know.
He's going to get more goals than him.
Who's getting more points than that?
It might be Cadre.
Codry last year.
They're going to play together.
They're going to be tied to the hip.
It was so far out of the rest of the pack.
But again, that was without Kuzmanko until whatever was Christmas.
Yeah, he got into Talkett's doghouse,
but aside from those three months or five,
four when it was but Jan or Feb one when we were in Toronto for All-Star rookie year 39 and then he
gets to Calgary school scores it around that same pace like I'm not seeing he's going to get 40 but it's
actually it's not not is non-talk at pace is 40 it's not it's not crazy and we there was a clip last
week from Ryan Huska he was asked about Kuzmeco it was after the over-time win where he fed
that pass back door to cadre it was wide open and you know the knock is that it's the defensive side
and Huska's thing was
when you've got a guy, we don't have
anything close to that skill level.
We don't have that ability.
Go and play was essentially what the message was.
And don't you love hearing that?
We got all kinds of guys if you want to play 200 feet game
and back check and that.
Why don't you go and create and score some goals against the points?
We'll have the other guys deal with this part of the game.
So it's a half goal of game guy, basically.
I don't, when he's not been with Talkett,
those guys are very, very rare.
you even just flirt with that
that's a phenomenal year that's like 35 goals
yeah
give me 30
a couple tonight let's win those bets
sure
there you go
Jack how we doing
I'm doing all right
all right oh
he's not like you that at all
what's going on Jack
exactly I just
drives me nuts on things don't work

lots of changes in Mardaloup
our studio the streets
so many
it's Beverly Hills 2.0
yeah except we're able to
kind of conduct
our job I feel for so many of the people here.
We had a free back massage for a while today with all the hammering.
Yeah, a lot of banging going on.
It's awesome.
Awesome.
Real good choice for sure in hindsight to put a studio right here.
The construction here, I'd move.
Keep the studio in here.
The construction, I'm swear.
It's out of here.
Anyway, it's good, uh, anyway,
years of construction.
Yeah.
what do you say to end the show
Oilers suck
so you guys
