We can start in the east.
Out east.
I want to start in the east?
Maybe we flash a bracket first,
so everyone's get up to speed on this, eh?
This is the tournament.
There's no receding.
When they went to the new,
the current playoff format,
they got rid of the reseating in round two.
So you win,
you move to the box towards the middle.
All right,
I'll start,
and this is going to be a real SOB.
Just hang,
tap your brakes.
Just hang on.
Let's got to walk through,
give our thoughts on this,
like we could do the series,
Then our picks, would that be all right?
What was I doing?
It just felt like you were ready to...
You were ready to rip off.
Buffalo, Tampa, Carol.
I just thought you were going to plow through.
Well, sometimes I get in shit for not doing things.
This is going to be great.
We're excited for Rett's picks.
He's played in three Stanley Cup finals.
Sorry, I take it back.
Retro, what do you see there when you look at this?
I think this is going to be a real SOB.
I think this is going to be back and forth.
And I think this is a long series.
I think Boston is...
definitely not a push out 100 points what were how many did they end up with at the end it was 100 points 405 wins like that's a hell of a season a hundred point season and they kind of were I think it's because the season they had last year which was a considerate a failure I think they're a better team than probably we've given them at least in attention wise we've given them no attention but you know I can't you're taking the safe in the buffalo side I'm going to do savers
Do I have to pick the amount of games,
or do you want to talk more about who's good and who's bad?
We can do games.
Seven.
Whoa.
I've got Sabres and six.
I just,
home ice is going to be a big deal.
And I think it's going to be,
I would rather,
it's like that whole thing,
I would rather rain guys in,
then have to whip them to get going.
And I'm not saying that Marco Stern has to do that with the Bruins,
but it's going to be adrenaline for at least the first two and a half, three games for the Sabres team.
And they are very good.
They won 50 bloody, that's 50 games.
It's not the sneeze act.
Give me these Sabers.
What I say, six?
You said six?
Sabers and six.
Dean and six, retro on seven.
Now, Boston would definitely have more playoff experience, right?
Oh, hell yeah.
They got McAvoy and Pasturnack.
even Swayman's been in a bunch of series
the last a little while.
Despite more playoff games than most of the Sabres.
Look, the Sabres, when you put them on paper,
they're better at everything than the Bruins
upset that experience piece and probably the net money,
although the Sabres have got some really good goalton.
It's just not from places we expected it this year.
I think they're the much better team.
I think they're the deeper team.
I think they got the better high-end skill.
I think the Sabers win this in five,
and the Dream Run continues in the Queen City.
Jackie Boy?
I will take Buffalo
in seven. I think Boston wins
game one. Pressure's on for
Buffalo, but I think they rebound. They win it
in seven. All right. A Buffalo
sweep across the board.
Tampa Bay
kind of an up and down year.
Montreal feels like
Cinderella. They didn't get, you know,
at the end there, the baby wanted home ice, didn't
get it. But
La Belle Provence, the bell center
is going to be jumping, lightning
and haves, who
anybody who won't care to start here.
I don't think it is Cinderella.
I think that that group has growing together,
and they've come together,
and I don't know,
I mean,
the Sabres would be up there too.
But aside for Montreal and Buffalo,
I don't know who's tighter.
I mean,
I'm sitting in frickin' Mardaloupe,
so I don't know exactly.
But when you watch Montreal play together,
they are all in together for each other.
And I think it starts from,
well,
I actually think it starts from management.
And it goes to Marty St.
and I think he's got everyone
only concerned about
the success of the team.
And that's not pulling the rug
out from anyone trying to do well
personally, you know what I mean?
Stopping 50 goals scores like Caulfield,
100 point guys like Suzuki.
Slofkowski hit 30.
Each three of those milestones, it was
like the guys in the bench loved it more
than the guy that got the feet done.
I agree, we're a million miles away.
It feels like a really cohesive unit.
And they played last year, they have
some last year was the Cinderella run right yeah that was they get in and it's okay we get the one seed
Washington and it was an awesome series like they battled like Washington beat them but it was an
absolute slug fest fighting the benches it was awesome his head been back this is the big question
surrounding the series it was a personal leave not an injury and we don't know what he's dealing
with they won't comment and obviously everyone respects that privacy but if he is back it changes
a lot for 100%. It changes everything. I'm going to go with Montreal in six. I think they win it at home.
Wow. That is, I'm assuming headman's out when I maybe should.
I'm going to take Tampa in seven, Dino. I think when you look at the star players that have been there,
Montreal's time is coming. It might not be yet. And then Tampa has quietly put together an
excellent season. When you look at all the time missed by their great players like Braden Point and
obviously headman there they are with a very very good year it's the eye of the tiger folks
young versus the old jack you go ahead you go what you got give me tampon six they've got the
goalie i'll never bet it against vass dean doesn't know what to do look at him i don't know
what to do it's consternated is that a large that means it's seven games i feel like it's yeah
it's it feels like it's it's i want to say montreal uh it but it feels like it's it's i want to say
Montreal, but it feels like it's Tampa.
Give me the habs and seven.
Look at that.
I'll take the habs and seven.
Wow.
Is it, have they
be it's Kuturov and point.
Waves of it.
And then they do, they just
got to shut up nowhere.
This is where guys get
those respect and names
as elevated. Yeah. I know.
I know what you're saying. I've watched one point, but I'm with
you. I've watched Montreal for the last month.
And every time you come away, it's like the building, the team, everything about that just looks.
Yeah.
You can't be Kutrov, you can't be headman, you can't be Vasilevsky, you can't be point without the playoffs.
I think that this is Montreal's time for those guys to go, no, no, no, no.
Weird that.
I have one question for the habs, and it's what's their goaltending going to be like and how many guys do we see?
Because it's the one area where, like, Dobish was a rookie last year.
Fowler's a rookie this year.
Montembow went to the bloody four nations, but he's their three.
Certainly you give an edge to Vasilevsky over any of those guys,
but when those guys get hot, especially the first two,
they've been quite good at times this year.
That's the storyline for me because I think it's going the distance
and can Vasilevsky make one more saved than those guys?
That's where my bet's set.
Carolina top seed in the east, 53 wins, 113 points.
They've got the second wild card Ottawa senators.
It's a tough one.
They kind of smack talked us yesterday a little bit.
Kind of.
I'm not on social media, but there were some...
Three fat guys in Canada, I think they don't hockey.
Harsh criticisms.
Yeah, what was the...
And I'll be damned if I'm going to...
The hell is Carolina ever done.
Screw you, Carolina.
They did beat the Oilers and I'm saying.
Yeah, I appreciate it for...
Love time. It's 20 years ago.
You know me. I love politics, and I live Ottawa.
So I'm going to Ottawa.
I trust in all things.
Ottawa and they would never
screw you over or do you row.
No. I have the video. I like Kachuk. I like
Stutzel and if Allmark wants to
play, I think again, these
kids and these younger guys
Sanderson. Yeah.
Shabbat.
I like that team.
Sends in. Sends in
five.
Take that.
I do because I think if they find a way to win, they're
going to find a way to win.
I don't know that there's been.
All right, six.
I don't know that there's been a wild card two versus conference one that feels as close as this.
I'm sure there's been instances that are close, but like the Sends finally got saves.
Everything under the hood is just as good as Carolina as they just weren't getting saves.
Yeah, they could be flip-flopped.
Totally.
If Ottawa was getting saves this year and Carolina wasn't, it could be the opposite.
Jack, what's your feel on this guy?
You didn't pay.
Carolina.
I'm waiting to see what's going.
And how many?
Six.
I'm not getting shit talk by their fans.
That's true.
You were,
it was three fat dipships,
not four.
Yeah,
that's right.
Keynes and how many?
Six.
I'll take him in six.
Brett's got Ottawa on six.
Yeah,
I mean,
three fat dipshits.
This is the worst podcast that covers hockey,
lazy podcasting.
Tell idiot to take off the Alabama hat.
Roll tide.
Jimmy Sends and seven.
That's science right there.
Folks right.
I'll take it.
Caroline in seven.
That's our analytical department going to work for.
Yeah, that's our data crunching.
Yeah, like, I feel it's the Cates.
I don't think the Cains with the cup,
but I think they went around, but I can't say.
You know what?
Screw your hat, Caroline.
I'm going Ottawa on 7.
Look at that.
Do you switch it off?
Yeah, I just think this is so close.
Like, not a lot of times do you see one wildcard two,
or it's like going to be a huge upset?
I think this is so.
Where's the goal to any question bigger?
Ottawa.
But it's not, it's not like the Cains don't have one.
Great goaltending and canes aren't like, there's no questions, but the canes protect their goalies and they don't have to be special.
And O'Mark has been so bad for large swaths this year, but looks really good right now.
He's good right now.
I know what we were having some fun with it.
But what's in my head is hearing Jamie all year, noodles.
Yeah.
Everything about the senators is real strong.
It's a goaltending that's holding them back.
If the goaltending could even be a little bit better, they would have been a higher C than what they are.
I'll go sense.
on some noodles
you said Sends and 7 I said Sins and 7
you said Sons and 6 Jack Scott
Carolina in 6
Yeah
Oh
The Pittsburgh
Big Wednesday
Dan the man
And the man
Rick talk it's slick Rick
Darth Fiddar
Pennsylvania
lit up
This one
We wanted it
We asked for it
We got it
Thank you hockey goods
98 points
98 points
Oh Philadelphia
you, 43 wins, the Penguins, 41 wins.
Identical home records, 2013 and 8.
Not a lot of separation here between these two,
despite home ice for the penguinos.
I'll take Pittsburgh and six.
Deeper, better.
I feel that way.
I know that you just reeled off all the numbers
that are almost the same, but I just,
the Pittsburgh vibes are elite right now.
and I just am not going to bet against
Crosby, Carlson,
magnificent year, all their depth guys have been
awesome, mantha, the rust, etc.
I'll submit this.
You do love to go against Jack.
You love to bucket tip.
Jack.
I don't think Philly's that good.
This is tough because you don't let you need to be,
you love being right.
I'm just picking what you're here.
It's a bonus if I can piss off someone on the lap.
You do like to stick it in Jack's ribs when you can.
I'm with you.
I'll say seven just because I want it to go the distance.
I think Pittsburgh wins a series.
I'll say seven.
Do you know in seven?
Pittsburgh.
Let's go.
Let's get Jack go here.
No, we'll leave Jack to the end.
I honestly don't know what to do.
And I mean, part of me is wanting to do what Pinder usually does to Jack.
Not the Jack would lose sleep over it.
But the veterans in Pittsburgh are pretty tiny.
Unless they're old and tired.
Haven't looked old this year.
one of the hottest teams to get in was the Philadelphia
So that was where my page,
because Jack and I love good books,
and when the page's turn,
you go,
holy shit,
Philly worked their ass off to get here.
I go home Philly.
Philly?
Six.
Oh,
six.
I like teams winning at home,
though.
There's a bit of a trend there.
Yeah.
Notice.
You have all your series in,
home ice.
I think
they're the hot hand.
And somebody's got to go
against Pittsburgh and Jack. Jack Penguins
and three, what do you got?
Honestly, as I look at this bracket,
Philadelphia is the worst effing team on here.
I don't think like
the Kings are better team. Pittsburgh has the best
matchup in the first round. In my opinion.
The Kings are better than the Flyers? I think so.
The Flyers.
I don't think they're very good.
Guys, just let it roll.
Pens and four.
Oh, baby. I love it so much.
Yes.
Honestly, it's like the Steelers.
It's just beautiful.
He said he was in the moon.
He feels it.
The jackalometer is on the moon right now.
Is it about it in?
He could be right.
If you're any team in East,
who would you want to play in the first round?
That's the one.
Probably Philly, right?
I mean, maybe Boston.
I like, yeah, I like Boston.
You're underestimating how well Philly had to play.
I get that.
They've been very good.
Give them,
give them their flowers and Tocke's got them playing.
That's a team that suddenly has structure.
He's got the boys roll.
Some young guys playing well.
I was Porta Mortone.
Nishkov.
I saw Crosby on Pat McAfee yesterday.
Oh,
is giving me goosebumps.
It was so awesome.
So you say you like the penguins, right?
Yeah.
I love it.
I almost want to switch my pick.
He's convinced me.
We haven't left it yet.
Oh, wait till the end.
Okay.
So once the series is over, you'll let us know.
He'll win it.
To the west, the Colorado avalanche and the L.A. Kings.
We just got, you, you were there last thing.
You saw them in the flesh.
First hand viewing.
Colorado and four.
The only, yeah, does it go four or five feels like the only, yeah, four, sweet.
Do you know?
Colorado on four.
Retro.
Oh.
You really can't pick the Kings.
I'll go abs and seven.
You have three upsets to this point.
You've got Montreal auto.
I'm just going to say the Kings will find a way
and the abs have too much pressure,
so it's going to take them while to get through.
Okay.
That's an interesting.
No, I should be back.
McCar has already returned,
and nothing I've heard around Manson suggests
he won't be available.
Seven?
Is it seven?
Jackal.
I'll say abs.
and five. LA steals one on the road
and Colorado
sweeps the rest.
Sweet.
Dallas. I don't want to
I don't, this is too hard.
Minnesota. I need a coin
or something.
Is anyone not taking seven games
here?
Because I just, every time I look out. Is Heiskinan
playing?
It sounds like he's going to be less than 100, but give
it a goal. It sounds like hints
is certainly going to miss at least games
one and two, but they're not
ruling out war games being missed,
but they're also deep as hell.
Hayskinen will practice today
is the report.
Yeah.
I'm going wild in six.
I'm going wild in six.
Wow.
Thoughts?
How do you get?
I like the goaltending.
Ottinger to me is still a question mark
when it comes to playoff success.
If Heiskenen's not playing,
that is a massive loss.
It really is.
Huge, huge, huge.
And maybe a little less pressure on the wild.
I don't know.
I like the team.
I like starting on the road a few of the wild.
Yeah.
Okay, we'll go in one and we're in the driver's seat.
Jacko?
I will take the Wild in seven.
Some about Dallas.
I can't, like, I can't pick them.
We've watched them stumble against the hated coil two conference finals in a row.
You at Wild six?
Brett six, Jack seven.
I'll take Dallas and seven.
Hayskin is the huge question mark.
I think they can survive a series of those hints.
I don't think they can if Hayskin is in playing,
but the concern level isn't nearly as high,
at least what we're seeing publicly,
albeit in a studio of Marlup,
he'll grit his teeth and play through some stuff.
I don't know.
I look at that roster.
What they're going to do if you're the wild.
Go right at those.
Might put a target on the...
Yeah, and the wild are a very physical team.
They're not huge, but everyone seems
to be a dog.
Like you watch Hartman play,
you look at the Falino brothers,
Valinos, you know,
Erickson X, a big ox of a player that's got middle stat on the back end.
That last game of the year was just scrum after scrum after scrum.
You can see what they're going to try to do.
I think I also took Dallas,
like Drake's was saying,
I think in the preseason I took Dallas.
I'm kind of with Jack.
They went on that unbelievable run.
And then just been okay.
It just feels like you go punch, counter punch.
Hey, skin, and well, we got cues.
goal tendings pretty good for the wild
even though the younger guys and it's
Johnston and Boldy and Caprizov
and Red. It should be an unbelievable
series.
Yeah, I'll take the wild.
Why not in seven?
Red's the only one that doesn't see
seven and your six is still a long
series. I think we're set for a banger
here. Don't miss that one.
We'll show you the start dates and times
for the first games of every series.
That's appointment TV. I don't know.
Obviously Buffalo at home for the first playoff game
in 14 years, you're going to want to be dialed to that on Sunday.
But Wild Minnesota,
get ready for the war.
That's my bet for most physical series.
You hope that's what you get because it's all the ingredients are there.
And we could see that in Montreal and in Buffalo too.
There's lots of teams that want to mix it up.
But, uh, yeah,
that's my pick for best series in round one.
Vegas and Utah.
Vegas and five.
I'll take, uh, Vegas.
Any thoughts?
I just, I think they're playing well.
I think they found their stride.
I think they made the right move with Tortero.
Or at least it appears that way.
Hart is playing better.
I think he's their goaltender.
Utah is a hell of a squad.
If this is a low-scoring series, Vegas wins.
And if it's nine goals a night,
that's the way Utah wants to play.
I don't know how that's going to translate in the playoffs.
They got a lot of offense,
but they're not a superb defensive club.
And they got no playoff experience.
Pretty green.
Yeah, a lot of coyotes there.
Wickers stinks.
that way he's
who do you took what there
I took Vegas in six
six Jackie
give me Vegas in five
yeah I'll go Vegas and
it's weird you look at the
it's like oh man with their welcome
they had four more wins
than Vegas did
in the regular
in a tougher division
that crowd
here's the thing no one's thinking
like that will be crazy
I know it's an expansion
slash relocation or whatever
they're calling it
that's their first taste
the building will be nuts.
Don't be surprised
what happens.
It is going to happen.
I'll go Vegas in seven.
Yeah,
I'm going to go to seven.
It's weird because I'm not really looking
that forward to that series.
Neither.
But then you start to think about it,
that could be a hell of a...
It could be sneaky again.
It'll be good hockey.
Both buildings will be electric
and could that fuel things.
And with torts now on the scene there,
that's just going to bring some extra to Vegas.
That could be a great one.
Yeah,
I'd be Vegas and seven.
is an edge and net for Utah, in my opinion. It's been a really good year for
Vemalka. Carter Hart's your starter? That's what Drags is saying? Yeah. And it's like,
oh, he's been good since Torts got here. You're like, oh, so for two weeks? He has not.
He came in, he got hurt. He didn't look right. I don't know that Carter
Hart's their guy so much as they know Aiden Hill isn't their guy anymore. Yeah, what was
McCriman's quote to the boys in Toronto? I like our goaltending or I like our goaltenders. I don't
love our goal tending.
Yeah, he likes the goalies when they're playing well.
They haven't played well.
The Oilers and the Ducks.
Things were sealed up last night.
The Oilers made quick and easy work of Vancouver to finish second in the Pacific.
The Ducks, they also get a win.
Ducks had two more regular season victories than did the Oilers, but one less point.
Goals for against, the Oilers snug things up at the end of the year.
Since Paul Coffey went behind the bench, their defense.
offensive end go way better. Oiler's a plus 13 goals for against,
ducks minus 15. So they're scoring, but they're also giving up.
And if you subscribe to things, maybe snug it up in the playoffs, you wonder.
Well, I don't even snug it up. If you're a team that gives up goals and you've got
McDavid and Drysadle on the other side, that's a big issue.
I think this is incredibly lopsided. And you want to talk about easy paths for teams?
the Oilers put them in any other division.
I think they're sweating.
This is a very soft touch.
It's not just that Anaheim isn't good in these certain areas.
Who's played worse that's in the playoffs than the ducks over the last 10 games?
Well, Jack says two wins in their last 10?
Yeah.
Who?
Like, I hate, can, are we allowed to?
Or can we just bypass?
I don't know what the rules are.
I want to say one more thing.
If Radcoe Gutis is the biggest story of the series, that's Anaheim's only chance because the star has been injured.
We need Trubha and Gudis to absolutely railroad a few people.
This is over and four.
I believe it is.
This is over and four.
It needs to say this is over and four.
Jack?
Yeah, I hate to say it too, but I think the Oilers goaltending can give the ducks at least one win.
I'll go five.
