Pierre LeBrun had his excellent pre-season league rumblings article on the athletic the other day.
This is worth a read.
Everyone's talking about why Quinn Hughes hasn't extended to what the hell is going on in Minnesota.
Isn't it nice to play in Tampa when you're in the last year of your deal, have no extension,
and no one said a bloody word?
Now it is different.
He doesn't have brothers in the league.
He hasn't been moved once before.
He's been a career lightning.
He has rings.
But a reminder, Kuturov does need a deal in a year.
I think we'd all expect him back in Tampa.
Is that fair?
Kutrov can do whatever he wants.
I was going to say, we've, we've said that a lot about some guys, and it's been true.
Like, but Brovsky, we didn't expect he was going to go anywhere.
Life's good.
You're there.
That guy strikes me as a bit of a, he'll do what he wants, right?
He's won cops.
He's got everything he needs to for that organization.
If he wants to stay there and enjoy living and playing in town, he will.
I'm not concerned about it.
but it's not up to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
It's up to Kucharov.
He gets to decide.
If you want to play the conspiracy thing,
are you sick of coups?
Or is it just we talked to,
oh, man,
like,
I don't think that's an issue.
I think he's probably going,
I don't give a shit.
Am I?
Is he worried?
He's not going to get paid?
And you know,
at the same time,
we've just spent,
boy,
guys are older,
he's 33,
had 130 points in 76 games.
I mean,
ages.
Yeah.
age is not slowing him down any it used to be all he'll go back home not with the money they're
making right now he's not close to the end of his he's still in his prime though he's playing right
he just strikes me as a guy that's oh try so go where who's going to pay me that sort of thing
guy can make 20 million bucks for a few more years and stay in Tampa still have a mitt
full of rings and trophies and not stay in Tampa I I'd be stunned if he leaves they've had
so much success, but it is a, all of a sudden, three or four years or every first round,
it's like, sometimes that's the reason you can leave is because you've had so much success.
Yep.
You know what I mean?
We are just making shit like we, like we said, you got nothing to say, you make shit up.
And that's what we're doing.
It's a nothing conversation.
Other news and notes, we talked about cutter go chain eating a contract here.
LeBron is the latest between what's going on with Pat for beak.
and Cutter, yeah, the Leo Carlson
five-year, $90 million offer sheet
really messed their salary structure up.
Connor Bedard five-year times 15.
He's a center.
He also didn't score 40 goals,
never mind 41, which Goce had last year.
Also was very good in an upsetting of the mighty oilers
in round one.
This is one to watch.
And like you said, it's not a whole,
he doesn't have a contract.
So if he does, if he's not playing, it's not like they're suspended.
He needs a contract.
Yeah.
And, uh, I imagine there'll be a sizable gap between what Pat Verbeek wants to pay him and what his agent thinks he's worth in 2026.
We briefly kind of touched on it.
Gochee believes in Goce and Gochay is going to go for the bag.
So what if Pat wants, doesn't want to pay?
Yeah.
You know what happens here if this gets ugly?
You take a one year deal and you can get off or shoot in the summer.
Like, yeah.
Is that not a duck's nightmare?
It's like, all right, Pat, your number's fine.
It'll take 12, one year.
Let's get playing.
And then your offer sheeted him at 17 and he gets the money anyway.
Tantilizing talent.
Other news and notes from Pierre LeBron.
Let's keep it rolling, Jackie.
Connor Hellebuck update.
Suiters listed include the hurricane, Sabres, Mammoth.
Panthers, of course, were in there, but they've since added Jacob Markstrom,
Brady Kachuk.
That makes it an incredibly difficult, an unlikely transaction.
Now you can bring Marks,
him in to try to move him out a month later.
And yeah, if the canes are in the mix, it's probably going to involve another guy that
needs a contract, restrict the free agent, Alexander and Akishan.
He's been a highly touted guy that wants to get paid and was an important but not crucial
piece of that Carolina blue line that just won the cup.
Hmm.
It is a weird one with Carolina at least, because like you say all the time, it's not like
they've been rushing to pay goaltenders any amount of money.
Never.
But if it's Nikishin, he's a younger guy.
You're not having to gut a heart and soul guy or a key piece out to be an important piece of a trade offer that might get you that guy.
And if you're Winnipeg, you could say, okay, we want a really good prospect.
We want to take Nikishin.
We'll take Kuchatkov, he and Skinner might be okay.
And then we'll take some first rounders.
Is that enough for your Winnipeg?
I don't know.
Depends how you feel about Nikishin, I bet.
Another D-Man that needs deals in Detroit.
Tough to get a deal when the team doesn't have a GM, I bet, Rhett?
I don't know who you talk to.
Hello?
The phone just keeps right.
It goes to voicemail and the voicemail doesn't work.
Hey, it's Stevie Y.
I'm not at my office.
Call me back.
God damn it.
They haven't even changed the message.
How do I get a deal done here?
Very good year last year,
alongside the German defenseman, Morris Sider.
You look at what's happened to the D market.
I mean, if Pavel Minchikov is his 6-7-8 last year got 7 plus, this might be expensive.
Well, it gets, I'm not trying to argue with you, Pinder, as much as I love to.
Sometimes we say it's expensive, and then we're like, it's the new world, so it's not, like, is Hala buck expensive?
I'm just going back to the, I totally agree.
I don't mean that it's, it's a deal that he won't be worth it.
It's just going to be a big number because that's the world of rent.
Edmondson.
Is it a big number or is it just,
that's market.
It sounds like the sticker shots.
We're not used to those.
It's the sticker shot.
He's eight, nine million.
Whoa,
how's this guy?
Well,
he plays 22 minutes a night on a team that was no good.
He and his partner were plus 12 and plus 15.
He had 25 points.
It's very good young defenseman.
