Yeah, Rose Hill dialed in. Yeah. It's like that's the team he covers or something. Last 10 versus the flames, Leafs are 8-1 and 1. That's a healthy winning percentage, I think. But I mean, hey. 90% of the time, they're getting points. What does that mean tonight?

Nothing. History means nothing. History means nothing. They're not going to start down 6'3. It's not aggregate? It is a long stretch, though, when you think if they play each other twice, we're talking about 10 games. That's the number for...

Five years. for a little while. The last time we saw the flames, if you were going to describe, were you at the games or a chance that you took that in? I was at the Wednesday, Vancouver game. I did not go to the Colorado game. I kind of had some tremors and fears regarding

Nathan McKinnon against the short-handed at center Calgary Flames. And it did at times play out that way. Then again, you know, despite being outshot a million to one, they kind of got it respectable. And in very flamzy fashion,

it was good to the last drop. It's how this is gone lately. Yeah. It's rope-a-dope and you're on the ropes, but you're avoiding the big knockout punch. You're managing to hang in there. Can you win on points? No, it's still a unanimous decision most nights the other way.

The last eight games, two, three, and three. It's just, it's a lot of, I think the four, three and three in their last 10, it's a lot of treading water and getting points where we can. And you love the points for sense. as we all know. Yes. Still clinging on a playoff spot. That is correct.

They have two games in Hano, Vancouver. They're two points back. And the Utah's and the Blues have entered the chat. Yes. They are here. They are potentially a problem for the Flames and Canucks. We spoke to a very reliable source within the company who said, do not worry about the Vancouver Canucks.

I watched the Vancouver Canucks. They are not. no good. They may be in that mix right now. Yeah. But do not worry. I don't know that that's wrong, but one of these teams does have to get a spot. I'm not necessarily sure any of them are going to give a tough battle to the Jets, who will be the one seed in the West. Yeah. But, you know, one of them will be there. You'd sort of said it the other week, does I feel like they're backing in or is it by default? Like, kind of. It's not as if they're way off on points from the Eastern pace, but it just, it's like one of these things ain't like the other ones.

When you look at the seven teams in the West and then Hevers in Wildcard too. Yeah, it just doesn't feel like this is a major accomplishment being had by the flames. It's just, it's a lot of an aptitude kind of surrounding them right now, which is hard, I think, for, it's hard for fans to feel like, hey, we're in the playoffs. There's none of that. They have two wins in their last eight games. You don't have that. if you get in, it's, well, okay, we're going to be fun.

But again, you can always dream on a hot goalie in a series, and it's not as if the Jets have been undeniable in the postseason. You can at least get hyped up, but now with, what are we looking at, 17, 18 games left in the year, it's, uh, yeah, I guess they could get it. Like, I feel like there's a lot of trepidation in the fan base. They just don't score? No, and it's gotten worse.

their numbers offensively have gotten worse since the Philly trade, which is like, I love the trade, do it again, but it's gotten harder. And you and Red have continually mentioned, like, they can't elevate, right? Keep saying they can't go to another level. And what you're seeing in the NHL is it's a lot harder to get two points this time of year. Now, yeah, you're going to have your Anaheims and your San Jose,

and they've got a few of those left. But when you're facing a team in the race right now, you're getting their best. When the flames run five and won their first five, they were not getting the best of their opponents. and is there, again, we're having the same conversation over and over again. I just don't know where the hope lies for the diehards. Just ask you all, right?

Get through this, but in terms of goal scoring. Yeah, yeah. Get through this season and then these guys from junior will graduate. These guys from the Wranglers will come up. We'll have so-and-so or at least, or somebody who's on the team. Coronado we know is going to be a 50-goal guy or Zeri's going to be a, there's some good players here. But you do not get the feeling that a rocket Richard winner is anywhere or a candidate is anywhere close.

Nope, not at all. And even the young kids in the system, like, they're not knocking at the door. That was your Zeri and, you know, posth of soul and coronados. They've arrived. The next wave ain't next year. It's going to be a year after that. Like, Gridden's going to need a full year in the A, yeah. You should probably just take very sports.

Like sure, Yigar could score a little more and Zeri without an injury,

maybe produces more and Backlin will return. Everyone gets back to where they're supposed to be, but it's still going to be a team that has to win 3-2-2-1. Yeah, you need a lot of things to come together. You need Fairby to get into a spot where he's going to be that 20 goal guy. And it looked like he'd found it a bit there with Backlin and, but now back on her and it's like okay everything's back in the blender again zerry coronado sharonovich has to come back to being some sort of a scorer because with hey the goal he's part of the team too

he's on the payroll yeah and it's well all the are as a goalie they can't well he's still part of the club he gets to put a jersey on play 60 a night if wolf is going to steal you games or steal you points you're more apt to do that if you're scoring an extra goal here and there so it's It's not going to be pretty a lot of nights. I do wonder about this one. The start of a four-game road trip. Yep. And the first of a back-to-back, it's Toronto and then the three New York area teams, which

ain't pretty. Nah. But, I mean, New Jersey's limping a bit with injuries. The Islanders were clear sellers of the deadline, and of course, have gone on a nice run since then for no reason. The Rangers, I don't think anyone knows what to expect from them. They've been so hot and cold this year. And the Leafs are a little growly.

They lost to Florida at a big game at home. And then the senators came in and kicked their asses, which is always, that doesn't get ignored in Toronto. No. So they're like, we're blowing it. Everything's, the sky's falling. The sins are only four back. But the difference being, they're only four out of top spot in the Atlantic,

and they also have two games in hand. So this still could be a team that has home ice throughout their division. We'll see. Just taking a look at our feed here. Yeah, what are you? We look great. I was going to say, how good do we look? We look.

And Calgary boy William Nealander, who somehow was allowed to suit up for Sweden, huge controversy. I don't know why I didn't get more attention. Born in Calgary, Calgary, born and raised, raised kind of, plus 145 to score.

He had three in the Leafs victory in December. You're going to set this thing up. No one likes to show off, Willie. no one likes it. He's at home now, so. I guess so. Maybe you'll settle down. Just settle down, really.

I think you've got to tip your cap to Brad Scher Living and the Marner camp, which has not been a always quiet camp. There was clearly a tete-a-tete before the season. It was like, fellas, if we can't get this done now, this has to be dead silent and a complete non-issue all year.

And it's been dead silent until we heard about a rantan offer. Carolina had inquired about Marner's availability. and I imagine Trill Living said, look, we love you. We'd love to have you. But I'm not doing my job if I don't ask. You don't have a contract for next year. Is Carolina a place you'd want to go? Because if so, I can explore this further.

Figure it out. The Leafs, meanwhile, and I guess I was going to, people don't want us to talk about the Leafs, but it's the opponent tonight. That's fair. I don't think that's unreasonable. I think you talked about Washington last week. They've had a great season. They're kind of leading the field.

Does it give you any kind of confidence that they're going to do it in the playoffs? I don't know. Where are you on the Leafs? in a lot of ways the team has kind of avoided major controversy. Matthews has been out and in. They've had the Marner thing, which is kind of a... Matthews had tough go.

They're pretty steady in terms of point producing, although right now they have one regulation, winning their last... Oh, nine. Yeah, four four, yeah. So it's four and one in that stretch, but one of them coming in regulation. I don't know.

They haven't been playing their best hockey. And after the trade deadline, you saw Florida look really good. You see Dallas make this big swing. Colorado's revamped like half that roster, three centers, two defensemen, two goalies. It's wild how much change they've had. Tampa improves. So it kind of feels like, well, all these other teams got better. And yeah, we might be better, but they look way better.

So I think there's kind of that, like, okay, when are we going to see the, you know, this better team that we've been promised because you lose to Florida and Ottawa back-to-back, both divisional games, both opportunities to really take control of the Atlantic. And if you could Tampa or Florida in round one, oh, like this divisional first round is great for rivalries and matchups and selling tickets. It just sets up another chance to flop in the spring for a team that's done it, what, 80 of the last nine years? And it's hard, I guess it is a flop.

But there's no shame in losing to those types of teams. I guess if you have a big series lead and then you piss it away, it's kind of a flop. I just, I don't know that I feel, you're now a couple years into the true living thing. I think they've got a little more

gristled on the bone. They do. They're slower, but they're better in the playoffs to be my guess. You would think, but I don't know that I feel any more confident

picking them in a series if you had to. What I would love if I was going to say Leefs have to win a series, you got to win that division. Go get the Ottawa. Ottawa looks like the Wild Card 1 actually,

so it would be them. like that that's a spot where it's like okay I like your chances here but Florida and Tampa they've played those teams so many times and had their hearts broken so many times and all those other guys have jewelry you just don't worry about Florida or Tampa being at their best in the playoffs and with the Leafs

it's the entire knock on this core yeah there it is Jack gets it on it's it can't be much tighter than that same game's played 81 points one more victory do have of the Leafs, but that's got six, seven coin flip kind of feel. Yep. That's why.

And look, look at the points in the games played. They got two games in hand to catch Florida. Go do it. Like if you're Leafs, like, it's yours. You don't want the tough first round matchup. You can kind of avoid it. I mean, Otto wasn't not going to be easy. But if you don't want to play Tampa, Florida, win your damn division.

Yeah. And have lost four to five. Yes. So that probably is not going to have Leaf fans like Johnny. Johnny Matthews. Johnny Matthews over there feeling straight. Good time or bad time to play the Leafs because you can play this card either way. They've only won one of their last five.

Yeah. It's also like, oh, I think they'll be ready tonight. To me, it's still the flames. They haven't really disappointed you in terms of their effort outside of maybe one of the games on that road trip. Right. They fight and they scrape and claw and scratch and it's admirable and you're like, may you deserve, maybe you deserve a better fate there. I just don't know where the goals come.

Yep. You're asking your goalie to be almost perfect. You'd betterly kill better be great and it hasn't been great this year. And if you get a power play, there's a lot of pressure to score because they just, they're the last team in the league in scoring. And by most scoring measures, like goals for per game, even strength scoring, shooting percentage. They're dead last in all those things. So, I mean, what does that tell you about your margin for error?

So just be a little better. Just a little better. That's, you know, set goals, right? Wolf, if you can just allow zero. There is that. Be a couple goals, back. Yeah. My beak.

And I think that's why we're on this run where they just look pretty man, when you try to size them up against up Tampa and Florida

But like, that to me is a team just coming out of that long, long incubation. And it's like, they're ready. I watch them play. They're ready. I watched them play in the fall against the brink.

Rooms in one of the nastiest games all year. Brawls, they're scoring late, tying the game, winning an O.T. They need a goal. Cichuk gets them a goal. Stutzel is a star. Sanderson on the back end, it's like, of course they locked them up early. That's going to be a steal for the next seven years. I think

they're here. I don't think they're even out of the top three in that division. They've won six straight, which I think predates the deadline. I think they had won a game or whatever going into the deadline. And now they completely roll. That edge, like six points up on Montreal.

I don't think, whatever, Columbus, Montreal, I don't think any of those teams are going to close that kind of gap on Ottawa. I think they're in. All the teams behind them, I just don't think they can look as good as Ottawa does right now. It's not going to stay this good for Ottawa, but their ceiling is just so high. We looked at that roster and it's like, how are they not better? How are they not better?

And finally this year, you're like, it's going to happen. And it has. It kind of felt like their year, didn't it? Well, I'm kind of guilty, I guess, in the past. past it's felt like they're here. You go back as they got these young players. It's not like Stutzla just arrived on the scene. He's been a guy for a while and Norris and Kachuk.

They've been good players for a while. Batherson has been a good player. Giroux, it was a nice vet ad. That was probably a year or two soon. But then all of a sudden, ownership changes. Steyos takes over. They get a goalie. That was a big thing last year.

They couldn't get a safe. And the team that we have taken runs at for years. Name that senator. Who cares? Do you know a senator fan? I'm not saying they're the next Chicago Blackhawks, but they've got a young, exciting team that those fans can be proud of. And you know what?

That building's jumping. That's been a library for a long time. They're in. What we're alluding to, they're totally bought in. This is their year. We want the Leafs. It's none of this. They believe that group can do it.

And you look at them, what are they missing? If Olmark's going to be healthy, it's a really solid blue line. They've got scoring up and down the lineup. They've got some toughness. And it's just like we watched Brady Kachuk at the Four Nations. He's carried that into the regular season. He's the closest thing to a modern day of Gingler right now. I don't know that he's ever a 50 goal guy,

but like you need a big play. You want a physically imposing player that can take over a game. He's right there with anyone. Like that's the thing with Matthew. Matthew's so cerebral. Yes. You know, he's not a great skater and he's not going to, I mean, he can hit you and hurt you in that.

but there's a different element to Brady. He's the better score, power forward. Yes. Just that energy guy. Yeah. And Matthew's more of the basket under your skin, chirp, chirp, chirp, Brady's going to hurt you with the shoulders. Brady is too.

I mean, he's not afraid of getting in there, but certainly he, uh, you'd love to have him. I feel like Matthews embodied like the personality of Keith, whereas Brady's got the frame. Like he's a significantly bigger, thicker human than his brother. Yeah, he's a beast. Yeah.
