Hello, friends. Welcome to a Thursday edition of Barnburner.
It's us in all, we're all, uh, all across the globe.
It's the nice thing about the technology that exists nowadays.
You can be in, uh, tropical destinations, time travel, space travel, all.
Where are you, right? Are you in Barbados?
Yeah. I went somewhere warm and balmy. I was, uh, downtown last night.
It was getting chilly. The lakes freezing over. I had to get the hell out of here.
Yeah.
there or yeah.
So where exactly?
Prince Albert.
Oh, yeah.
Is it colder where you are now than it was?
It sure is, dude.
It sure is.
You mentioned around the world.
I think Jack said we got some fan mail from overseas.
I don't know.
Super chap from overseas.
Okay.
Well, we'll get to that later.
How about that?
How about that?
It is a presentation, this thing that we do, this thing,
a presentation of Bet365, game props,
player props, totals, money line, whatever your bet is,
is never ordinary at Bet,
at Pet 365.
Football coming up,
as I believe today.
Download the app,
get in in the game,
you must be 19 or older.
And the Super Chat is alive and well.
If you are in and watching live,
you want to put a comment on
that gets shown on the show,
put a little money down.
We'll give the money to you,
Senors of Calgary.
And then we'll,
let me,
we'll show your comment on the show
and we'll probably rip you.
For being honest.
That's really how it's going to go.
You know,
why it be any different?
We're here in the,
make shift,
McLeodlaw,
LLP,
studios, McLeod Law.
Saw the McLeod Law folks last night.
Good little hang last night.
It was nice.
A nice little studio set up there.
Jeez. Yeah.
I want to feed all the barbecue.
The barbecue is bad.
They brought in barbecue for us.
You did go, you did go get in there a couple rounds though.
Yeah, I had some beans.
I didn't.
Bean salad?
Yeah, you know, I've been to his bragging about the bean salad.
Look at this.
We got like a.
at Dean's headroom's a little much there.
Anyway, good barbecue.
Pinder's such a stickler for details and technical things.
You always do, and then you go home and you don't care about it all of a sudden.
Oh, you know what?
It was funny.
Speaking to that, boom, boom.
It was last night Pinder playing ping pong.
Now, you got to get it on your side of this.
She doesn't know how to play.
Yeah, I was trying to teach her to play.
I thought we were going to have a match.
And I'm like, I'm actually just teaching someone how to play ping pong here.
But we had billiards table.
They had the golf sim.
Ginnip, gnap, gnapp.
Good times.
Yeah.
You know, Pinder was doing a lot of instructing last night.
There was a lot of, there was a lot of letting, you know, just, well, you know,
Presvets off, you know, Presvettes off.
And Cooley, you were, you were, you were putting on the clinic last night,
letting everybody around talking flames.
That's what we were there to do.
And, yeah, one of the fellows that I snuck out to catch a little bevy after.
It was good night.
New restaurant open down the block.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
Ooh.
Big shadow, McLeod.
Crown,
or something like that?
Penny or something like that?
Happen and joint.
Hot spot,
night one.
I bet.
Nice.
Night one.
Thanks for the invite.
You were high tailing it to an arena, I think.
Yeah, lucky me.
My last conversation with you.
Lucky me.
But thank you to McLeod Law.
Great people.
A wonderful night.
A weekly event, I feel.
If they're going to supply the barbecue,
I can make a trip.
Jeez, yeah.
That was a,
quick spread. Have the golf sim set up, games on the TV.
You were impressive. You were impressive at the golf sim, Dean. I thoroughly enjoyed watching
the swing. Like the way he cleared his hips really gets through the ball.
Snap that through. I've put a lot of time into it.
It was your year for golf. Yeah. It lives my year. You know what I'm thinking?
Next year. Another year. Back to back years? Really, I got a taste this year. Next year.
Look out. Grabbing the sticks in 26, boys.
You might take up golf.
As soon as that young daughter of yours
starts to, she doesn't like you anymore,
then it'll be, I might as well go golfing.
I just, I've got to be home.
That's your happy place, right?
Or I'll just have a seven iron beside the door
to whatever she comes home.
Might be it.
I'll learn how to swing.
We can get into it.
The flames yesterday wrap up their two game
and two night back-to-back travel.
Terrible.
what was it?
Oh, just exhausting stuff.
Got to get in, you got to get a result or the travel or what?
Oh, the travel, the schedule, just terrible, just awful travel.
Can't you, I don't know how you could play in that game last night.
Unusual schedule.
I don't think it was difficult.
No.
You know what else wasn't difficult?
The Sabres.
Yeah.
Yeah.
They were in it.
They looked like they were in it.
And then all of a sudden it was floodgates in the third there.
Like, when does that third goal come?
It's like, okay, you got a game here.
They erase a two-goal deficit.
They have the one goal called back, and you're like, okay, here come to Sabres.
And flames, give them credit.
Solid third.
Yeah, it's two-oh.
Sorry, 202 into the third.
Frost gets the tap in, then Backland scores, then Farabee, his second of the night.
Coronado.
They picked him up.
Six, two.
Coronado's on a heater here, fellas.
We saw it with the shot totals against Minnesota, what, a week and a half ago,
and the goals are starting to come now.
And that's a great sign for this team because we know how tough it is for them,
to score goals.
I think he's on pace for like 26, 27 now.
That's great.
I wonder if they had the kind of,
we had the opposite when San Jose came in.
It's like, get ready for these sharks.
These guys are unbelievable.
They score a ton of goals.
These guys are so good.
One of the best teams.
T's and peas to the flames.
And then the sharks came in and looked terrible.
And it's like, these flames, they can't.
They need two pucks on the ice and they still can't score any goals.
And they put up six.
So I don't know.
Maybe the sabers took them for granted, maybe.
Did they take them lightly?
No, but that is their third or fourth best goalie they have,
and they're missing some bodies.
That was not peak savers.
Tage looked good at times.
That's just a third time this year.
He's trying to sell this story, eh?
He's plot committed.
He said it yesterday.
He's in.
The intrepid reporter with boots on the street
was less impressed with the Sabres than Ryan's.
Yeah.
No, I'm not here to say they were good,
but they did claw back from 2O to make it.
game and I don't know that the final score like that was right there two minutes into the third and
give the flames credit better team in third for sure coolly looks good cooley looks good cooley's fine
i would play a piss out of cooley i would play him saturday like not play the piss out of them but
no and look like is wolf just dialed in this zone where you can't take him out of the net right now
no no and is he going to get into some of those zones this year yeah but coolly right now is
the guy that's like he's feeling great like you probably need to start using him more now you do have
back-to-back Saturday Sunday, home to Dallas and then at Vancouver Sunday,
why not go Cooley Saturday against Dallas at home?
Like I think he's right now the guy that's feeling it.
And I suspect he may,
you know, if he were to play more, some of that shine would come off and to be like,
okay, we've seen it off.
It's maybe go with Wolf a little bit more.
Sure.
Sure.
But yeah, for right now, it's feeling it.
But you know what?
I'm learning, fellas.
Fellas, I'm learning.
maybe we're on an island
because we do this show every day
and we talk every day
and we've got thoughts and all this algorithms
the algorithms are supporting our little island
so we keep I guess I guess
echo chamber we're reinforcing our own beliefs
maybe we need to talk to more people
we need to get out more I don't know what
it is but I'm led to believe that
maybe they're going to have to play Wolf a bunch
play your number one they're going to have to play these guys
you can't play don't play kids
because it's about winning games
and they're playing hard and winning
and we learned a lot last night
in one of the intermissions
with Don Maloney of the Calgary Flames.
I mean, we'll get it.
Just hang, just that not,
well, we're taking our time here.
We're not, we're building up.
We're building up, Jack.
This is, we're not blowing our way through this thing.
I want to be respectful.
Don Maloney's been,
first of all, I'm the first guy.
And I say this to Pinder all the time and just what,
don't take what people say in the media to be the gospel.
They're coming out, they know they're going on TV or radio or whatever,
and they're speaking to the fans,
they're going to say some stuff, whether they actually think it or not.
So you just always, I think, a little bit of grain of salt you got to take
when you hear some stuff.
But I feel like some, we've seen Flames Management
over the years, they're kind of batting over a lot of times.
when you because I remember John Bean and Don Maloney were on
press conference after a tree left yeah and they should have just
just should have take the day boys because that they did more damage than good
and I feel like for Don Maloney whenever he's on camera
they should just turn the fucking camera off because it's just
the mics too sports that I hey sport ever because everybody's talk about it
that's it's great for parks it's great for sports net but man
if I'm a flames fan
I'm having a hard time taking the
it's just don't don't take everything you hear
as gospel kind of thing that I throw out
because
this whole
we don't want to
we're not going to re-bigil
we don't use the R word
we're not we're a good team
you know last year we've yeah hey yeah
Dean did you say rebiggle
you missed the playoffs last year
This, this season from a year ago, the way you played your team from a year ago, you fucking miss the playoffs.
So while you've got them on a mantle, let's just start there.
And I don't, honest, I don't want to be, I was so aggravated for fans.
Like, I don't give a shit.
But I felt aggravated for fans who buy the tickets and go to the dome.
Because we talk to them all the time.
Yeah.
We were just in Nashville with diehards.
They had pictures in their phone.
Look, this is me and Commodore from the 04.
They love this team.
And I feel like when I hear the people that are running things talk,
there's no fucking hope.
Because they're geniuses.
They've been around the game their entire lives.
Don Maloney has been a GM forever.
He played in the National Hockey League.
Murray Edwards is a billionaire.
They have minds galore in there.
But as I sit here today, if I'm a Flames fan,
I have no confidence.
Conneedinfeiting?
I have no, I have
Connefidence. I'm not sure what my
conifidence level is that he's got the freedom
to do what he wants to do.
That would be my concern overall
with the whole take. I don't give a shit what Don
said because he has to say something.
And the questions were good and they were put to him
and he gave an answer and whether you
want him to come out and blast the team,
sure. I think there's
there's other ways of saying what he wanted to say.
But my concern is, is there this side of what half the management groups trying to achieve?
And then there's this side that's like, are we all in lockstep?
Because it doesn't feel that way.
There's no way that there is.
We're a long ways away from it.
Granted.
But there does have a bit of an inkling of, wait, are you, are you all on the same page at
least because I'm starting to pick up that maybe they're not quite that way.
I think that, you know, to Dean's point, like these guys, you've got three guys in your
front office that have been GMs. You've got Jerome, who's one of the greatest players of all
time, and you've got a guy that's owned a team for decades that's in the inner circle with
Gary Bettman. How does that group come across as so aloof or, like, disconnected? And I think
nothing that Don said was like this smoking gum
and like this proves you're a moron.
It was more just like, why would you let him get in front of a camera?
This is not what he's good at.
Like go watch some junior kids, go scout.
Don't let him in front of a camera.
This is not going to help you.
It's only going to hurt you.
That said, let's take a look.
Now it was a full intermission segment kind of thing.
This is the part regarding the path and future, I suppose,
of the franchise that we're mostly alluding to, I think.
How would you assess the first quarter?
of this season for your club?
Well, it's been terribly disappointing.
You know, we, the way it works, in the summertime,
we review the prior season,
we go to ownership with a plan to move forward.
When we looked at last season's team,
we had a good finish the last three months.
We thought we could come in and build on that.
Unfortunately, it hasn't gone our way so far.
Again, I look at the period we played.
The way we have to play all the time is that intense,
hard to play against.
That was our reputation last year.
You know, we're hard out.
And this year, we're hard out.
This year we haven't able to kind of, we've seen flashes of it, but there's certainly not enough.
But we're not throwing a towel.
We know we've got a lot of work to do.
There's three quarters of the season left, and we just have to keep working.
And we know we've got good players here.
We've got a good veteran group.
We've got some younger players of course.
We've got a great young gold ending and gold ending tandem.
But we have to put it all together.
We talk about it, but at the end of the day, there's no red.
You don't get medals or red ribbons in this league.
It's winning or losing, and we haven't done enough winning.
So in a vacuum, if you listen to that, you know, we're a hard out, we play hard out.
So this is an effort level.
This is a try level issue.
Because that's what he's, that's essentially what he said.
Hey, you know, last year we were this and we come in and we're a hard out and we just, you know, we have, it's, again, I, I, there's just.
no, there's just no way that I think Maloney can look at that and feel like, okay, I'm happy with how
that, how that went. Um, but I, I just, there's, there is part of me that worries though,
that there's, there's more truth than fiction. There's more fact in there that they truly believe
that, you know, we, we could go out and make a trade. Oh, we just need to start playing a little
better. If we get another save here and there, we're going to be, we're going to be okay.
They're dead fucking last. I just, it's, there's, that's, that's the thing is the golf. The golf,
Now, from what we think they are and what they think they are feels bigger than ever.
If he's speaking truth, two things I want to say.
I already forget the second one.
But the first one is, how do I word this?
Because I'm forgetting it, too.
You need a pen of paper.
I do need a pen of paper.
Are they really a 32nd place team?
As far as talent, if you walk through.
I know they are, but they're 32nd after 22,
and I'm not making excuses for them.
They've been horseshit.
They deserve to be where they are.
But if you look at the talent level,
from the goaltending to the defense,
like I remember being an idiot that started the year going,
these guys are terrible one day,
and then the next day going,
actually Rasmus is good and Uyghur's good,
and Peret can play, Wolf's good.
I mean, yeah, they don't have difference maker up the middle,
and they don't have a hundred point guy.
but if they all combine and chip in and Sharon Govich,
like are they really so talentless that they should be 32nd?
I don't believe that.
Who's worse?
Who's worse?
Yeah, who has less talent outside of the net?
Wow, that matters.
Do you know what I mean?
I think they're in a group of four or five teams that are the worst.
And to your point out, they could finish 28th, 29th, but like.
And that's fine.
I'm not trying to make an argument.
That's, you answered it.
Are they? Okay.
If that's, we can believe whatever we want.
If you guys believe that, absolutely.
Have I done a deep dive into it?
I don't know.
You've sold the sabres on being better.
They just kicked the shit out of the sabres.
And I don't think the sabers are very fucking good.
No.
And we can have a difference opinion on that.
But regardless, I don't think they're a top 10 team either,
Sabres or Flames.
But the other approach to this is,
what is Bill,
What is Armstrong done in St. Louis?
And why is it for sale?
Why is it such a, because there's backing up your people that Maloney and all the people in management with the flames might want to do, right?
There's, there is that side of it where it's like, we're not selling these guys down the river.
We're not going to, we're going to back them up.
We believe them.
We don't want to go down that road.
But the other side of it is two things that Armstrong has done.
he's made it known to everyone.
Yeah, we're open for business,
which I don't think is a bad thing.
And the other side of that is
the players on a team can take,
I don't know what,
not solace,
but it can feel empowered
by management backing them up
and play better.
Or the players on a team can go,
holy F,
my ass is on the line.
I better pick it up,
which is what,
what Armstrong's doing.
I don't know what's a better approach.
I'm just saying those are two different approaches that they can,
that manage.
And obviously we're seeing both sides.
Well, neither teams doing well,
but those are two different ways of approaching this thing.
Yeah, and neither teams made a deal.
And I think to your point,
like the flames don't feel comfortable shopping guys
so much as listening at this juncture.
While the blues are saying,
hey, I got some vets aren't playing well enough.
They're all for sale.
Like, give me your best offer.
And he famously did this in 2019 or 2018,
whatever year they went to the cup final, everyone for sale.
And then last year did the same thing when he ran the coach in November
and they got on a heater and squeaked into the final spot.
Murray, Craig, the rest of the management team,
collectively the organization is not comfortable with the for sale sign yet.
See, the thing with, with calling it.
They better be comfortable with it because if it's coming.
Behind closed doors, they better be really effing comfortable with it.
because if they aren't, then it's going to be hard to find a belief in them as fans.
I agree.
And I think that they will get to that point, but I also think, especially with this organization,
there's a very, very keen eye on not saying things that would deter people from buying tickets to go to games,
even though I think the fan base would be receptive to it, right?
You could say whatever.
I don't care what, again, I was said, Maloney's got to say something when he's getting interviewed.
I don't agree with it.
And I think there's ways of saying it in a better way than he did.
That's not his gift speaking to the public.
No.
The thing about it is, if you want to do the Doug Armstrong, like you say,
and it's like, hey, we're going to be open for business.
We don't turn it around.
I think you can play that card.
If you believe that your team is better to quite a bit better than how they're playing,
so you want to shock the room and kind of, you know, booster cable, give them that jolt.
If you don't think it's there, you're like, oh, we might be open for business.
But if you honestly believe that you're not a very good team,
then it does fall a little bit flat.
But I just, I do.
I think, I think they think they're quite a bit better than what they're showing.
And at some point, I don't know what the number is, probably it's all subjective.
Your record is who you are.
You are what your record says you are.
We talk about, and they are last.
And yeah, they scored six last night against Buffalo.
All right.
And you beat San Jose, who has been very good, but they're still kind of.
They were terrible.
They were terrible in that game.
San Jose wasn't even in the building.
Yeah.
I just, I do.
I feel for fans who hear this stuff thinking,
okay, well, finally,
the team is at a level where they,
there's going to be no confusion over what they are.
There's no, we can't trade guys at the deadline
because we're four points out of a spot.
We're this close.
Ah, we just save here or there.
They're not a save here or there.
They're not a couple of points.
They are where they're at.
because of the how they've maintained a roster in the mucky middle for so long without and i fuck it's like we say rebuilding like it's a bad thing i just look
again billionaires these these guys know what they're doing if you lived in a house and the the fucking shingles are flying off the roof
repairing the roof does not mean it's a failure it just means it's time to
fix the fucking roof.
You may have a, you may have a beautiful home.
I was like, oh, no, it's, you know, we think the roof's pretty good.
If we could just put, maybe put a tarp, but get some, you know, get some tar and some paper and we'll patch it up.
Be smart.
It's, I just, I, I get frustrated when I hear the messaging that continues to come out because you never,
you're like you said, you never hear it from this team.
It's a fireball offense if they believe it.
It, well, our backs are against the wall.
We may have to do something here.
You never hear.
No, we're going to.
we're going to go to work today and give our golly, gee, our very best, like,
holy Christ, enough already.
This is how you've gotten to be where you're at.
And even now in a year where it's clear what you're at, I do worry that behind closed
doors, they don't see it.
And I think time will bring clarity to everyone.
Like, look, they got four cup contenders in their next five.
They got Dallas on Saturday and then they do that old Southeast Division run, Tampa, Florida,
Carolina. Like if you want to go ahead and win five in a row, prove us wrong. Sure. But like if this is
Christmas and you're in 32nd, the whole, you know, speech we just heard last night does not fly and
you have to look in the mirror. But I also understand them saying we're not publicly going to
throw in a towel right now. I understand why that might be. You know what this is this year?
This is the most important year that they've had in 20 years.
they went to the final in 2004.
There was a lockout.
They came back.
They thought, okay, we're going to pick up where we left off.
And then they chased it with some older rosters.
And then they got young and all.
Right now, this is a pivotal moment for the franchise.
Not because a fucking building is coming up.
Not because Zane Perak is, this is a touchtone point.
This is a turning point.
Fork in the road kind of a moment in a way for this team.
If the season goes the way it looks, it's going to.
Can you secure a super.
for the next decade and a half is what's on the table this season.
That's right.
The Buffalo Sabers, who is everyone's poster child for, don't do that.
Yeah.
We just played them.
You want to remain Mucky Middle that you're, you need a superstar.
Now the Sabers got screwed.
They screwed themselves because they didn't get McDavid and then they traded Ico because they
they mishandled it.
And they're afraid to be in Buffalo, but I think the fears are so misguided.
Like, are you going to be as disfutable?
functional as Buffalo and are you going to hire people that have never been
GMs to be GMs and are you going to rip through coaches that shouldn't be in the league?
No, you're not. You're smarter than Buffalo.
Yeah. If you're not inept than that you deserve and the fans will get 14 years of pain and
the fear of being Buffalo is ignoring all the idiotic decisions they made.
Just don't be as dumb as Buffalo.
Yeah, just don't go bring a guy from business ops and make him a GM for the first time he's ever worked in hockey ops.
And the other thing you have going for you is you play, you have the team in a city where people care,
where it's a hockey market, it's Canada.
If you go through some non-playoff years,
which people, again, it's like it's a fucking news flash
to those guys.
You've not been in the playoffs.
It's not like you're going from presidents.
Geez, I don't know.
Like last year we were,
you're not throwing away a division banner
to maybe try and pick high this year.
You miss the playoffs more often than you make it.
At what point do you learn from your mistakes?
But the thing is, fans here are going to get it.
They're still going to buy tickets if the team is young, if they're going through some tough times.
But there's a first overall.
There's a second.
They've never picked in the top three.
Like goodness gracious.
It's just, it seems to plague this team.
And again, I don't know why I'm all wound up about it today.
But it just feels like we say it all the time.
Finally, it's clear.
Finally, this team is just, it's what they are.
They're not underachieving.
Maybe they are a little bit.
But what's the max output?
it's still well back of those teams that look to be in a playoff spot.
And it's a gift that they are getting.
It's a here, look, look how it's like, here's a Rubik's Cube that's one fucking slide away from finishing it.
Don't start over.
Don't like, don't, don't, it's right there for you.
Be smart with it.
And it just, I, you're frustrated and it's annoying to the fan base because there was an opportunity.
Again, Ryan, you're not wrong, that he has to say something,
and it's not that they don't want to be public about throwing in the towel.
But it was also an opportunity to give some honesty.
And so.
And provide some hope to the fan base.
Yes.
And that was not done.
But the thing is, it comes, what, two to three weeks.
And again, it's not after Eric Francis had the thing about, uh,
Nossum Codry from.
Wow.
Yeah, there's a bit of smoking.
It's like, no, we, you know, we love,
It's just frustrating to watch because the fans, we talked with fans last night.
We were at an event with fans.
And they were talking about what they would do the night of the draft lottery.
Like we'd get together the party that.
Guys, fellas, losing sucks.
I get it.
And it's your business to,
win games.
But this fan base is not going to deteriorate if you finish near the bottom and pick first
or second overall.
They're going to be more engaged in what's happening.
You will have given them reason to have hope in this franchise.
If you bring back 34-year-old Hanley, you don't trade 35-year-old Nazim Kudra.
You don't move 33-year-old Blake Coleman.
Like, why would it get better?
They're a year older.
There's less reason to believe in this franchise long.
term than if you're starting to sell hope in the form of, you know,
a guy that's put up more points in junior at 17 than anyone since Mario Lemieux,
or as the youngest defenseman in NCAA who's 6-4 and could play both ends and he's
220 already.
And you can sell hope if you actually allow the fan base to say,
we know we have a chance to add an impact player at the draft.
There is, like there is Buffalo.
And Buffalo has been,
it's been a failure for sure.
But you showed yesterday on the top five.
our top four scores in the league were all acquired by teams who finished at or near the bottom and picked first first.
Yeah.
How's Schaefer doing?
McKinnon, Celebrini, McDavidi, McDavid, Bedard, all went first overall.
And I would say, it's the way, it's the way to do business.
And it just feels like they're, they're so loathe to do it.
Yeah.
I mean, God, you can tell.
Even I'm sick of hearing it.
I feel for fans that have heard, no, you know, hey, one more,
we get another.
We're going to go out here in the last 40 minutes and give it our best and give it
the old college try.
Get out of here.
So the way that if you're, you know, if you're running this team,
the way that you, like, what's he supposed to say?
Well, I'll tell you what you do.
You don't put them in front of a camera.
If that's the speech you're going to get, sorry, Brendan, we're not doing that chat.
And that, you know, we like to hear from these people.
But if it's that, you're not adding confidence to the fan base.
You're eroding.
it. Don't want to talk to the media. He's not good at it.
Maybe he's good at it.
No, we've heard him twice. It was a disaster both times.
Well, we just don't, we don't like what he's saying. I guess.
No, it's a disaster.
You can come out. How are you in a better spot as a business today after that than you were yesterday?
You have a riled up fan base.
Yes. You've eroded confidence in your front office with that. That's what you've done.
What it felt like is just, again, it's the tone and tenor and you can read too much.
in. But instead of it, you know, we're very disappointed with where we're at we come in.
It didn't, it just doesn't feel that way. It just feels like, oh, we're going to go and try and
win. So you're just going to stay the course despite what we're watching. And it's very clear
what's happening as the results keep going down. That's, uh, that you're on the right track.
This, this path that you're that you're recommending and putting forth to ownership here after
year to just try and maintain, but probably miss at the end and then not have high elite players.
Yeah. I don't think him saying anything last.
that means they won't trade Nazim,
or they won't trade Blake.
But he certainly didn't give confidence that they were.
That's the thing,
is,
because there are two things there at play.
One,
the team's going to finish where they finish.
And a trade of Rasmus of that,
that'll have an impact.
But at the end of the day,
what you say,
what you do,
the roster is mostly going to be what it is.
And the team will finish where they finish.
What can be affected is what they do with the roster
heading to Game 82,
to your point.
a Raspus trade, a Coleman trade, a cadre trade.
Are you going to, again, it's Murray's money.
It's not mine.
Are you going to eat some money on a cadre deal to maybe hit a home run?
Get more, a better pick or better assets?
And you know what that does?
And again, I'm being an asshole.
What it does is it speeds up your fucking rebuild if you do it.
You don't want to go through five, 10 years.
Then trade the guys that have market value and get more young assets now so you don't have to
spend that much time doing it.
Yep. And look, if NASDA Coucher is
playing good hockey, at some point, he's not going to be an NHLer
because no one plays forever. Father time's undefeated. Everyone
hits the wall. Most guys hit it before 35. You do not want to
be caught holding the bag, whether that's next year or the year after,
on a guy that right now is a valuable asset that can help you better,
help better your team down the road
like it's it's not complex here and I understand
they don't want to say we're throwing in the towel
yard sale because it's like shoot what is it
what messages that send to the guys but then don't come on TV
then if you're going to spin that
oh don't make it worse by giving us
a bunch of right yes the people
have heard it before so if you're just going to spin the same
old yarn then don't bother
yeah you want to win fans over
we like and if you're that
if that's what you truly believe
trouble.
That's what I'm saying.
And that's what I'm saying.
Now you're just lying to the fan base.
Like you're,
if I'm a fan last night,
it's like,
okay,
they've got the president of hockey ops.
Don Maloney coming up.
Okay,
well,
they're off to one of their worst starts ever.
I want to hear what.
I want to hear what's going on.
And then you hear,
oh gosh,
you know,
we got to do what,
you know,
come out here in the last 40 minutes.
We're going to get a win.
We're going to try and go and play Dallas.
I'd be,
turn the fucking TV off.
I will,
I lose faith.
I lose faith in not just the guys running it,
but almost the team.
Are you,
do you all believe this?
Because if you do,
it's hard to get behind you.
If you came out last night and you were just a little bit of their more
honesty,
if it's in fact what you feel,
we're disappointed.
This has been a tough start to the year.
We do feel we're better than this,
but we're going to have to maybe do some serious,
our goal is to make the playoffs every year.
but maybe we may have to look at doing some other, like something.
It shouldn't be as hard.
The easy disclaimer is, look, we think we're better than this.
They've only played a quarter of this season.
There's runway to get back in this.
But if it doesn't happen, we have assets that we can turn into future pieces.
That's the only disclaimer he didn't add.
It makes it seem like everything's great.
This is the group we're going to run with for the next three years, which is insane.
Now, and again, I'll kind of go back to it again.
I think that the teams play.
And I'd feel bad for,
I don't hang any of this on the players.
The players are who they are.
And we give it to Sharon Govich.
Like, yeah, he should probably be,
they're just not a very good team.
I think they do play hard and I do think they care.
I mean, it's been a tough year for Weiger.
But you watch him, he's pissed off.
He's embarrassed.
You can see it.
I don't think anybody is mailing this shit in right now.
So I don't, I think the coaches are trying to coach their asses off with these guys.
I think Conroy is working the phones.
I know he is.
So I don't really hang any of it on the players because their effort more often than not,
we don't have a problem with.
But this team will end up being a near the bottom.
And it just feels like it's such an important, it's like you're being handed some currency.
Yeah.
It's like you're, you know, you've got all this debt.
and somebody comes in to help you, consolidate you,
we're going to help you by maybe this,
it looks like you need some help here.
Don't mismanage your funds.
Don't, don't fumble it.
Use it.
Yeah, like the opportunity you talk about,
it's interesting you said, like the last 20 years,
it's like, wow, I hadn't thought about it that way,
but you could make a compelling case because if you can get one of these top two or three
picks, you've got a franchise altering player,
a new face of the franchise, a reason for hope, bottom line,
focused, like a reason to sell tickets in a new building at double the price.
But on top of that, like, what if you could add, let's call it two firsts and two seconds,
just by clearing out vets?
Coleman, Rasmus, Cadry, Fairby, Joel Hanley, think about that pile of assets that you
would have moving forward to choose as you wish, whether to wait until those drafts arrive
or to turn into players in the form of trade.
to miss that opportunity
and or miss the opportunity
to pick in the top three,
that's how you turn into Buffalo, Frank.
That's how you turn into Buffalo.
That's how you turn into Buffalo.
And you know how you turn in?
And what is everybody,
everybody we bring guests on and we talk to people.
The talk of the league right now is the young guys.
How about the sharks,
those ducks, these young guys, Schaefer.
You could be that.
You could be.
And you haven't been fucking ever
in my lifetime that I could recall.
But you could be the team,
that when, when other teams come to town, you go to the rank,
it's like, boy, what's happening?
What's going on in Calgary?
That's, like, they're a young, exciting team.
They've really, like, that's, that's a, that's a team when they come to town.
I want those tickets.
Since the 80s, when they were really good, won a president, won a Stanley Cup.
The only time that there was any excitement about being young was Goddrow and Chuck and Mornay.
They tried to sell the young guns,
was no bloody good.
Jerome was a star and everyone else was a role player.
But in the history of the franchise, the 80s were,
we went to the finals,
but it wasn't a well-built team.
We got Kimmustov and Gidl was a star and we worked her asses off and Cinderella did it.
Right?
This was not a.
It's not a plan.
No, that's not a plan.
They had a plan.
What could Chuck and could drove and Bennett,
Bennett not being what Bennett is now,
it was a major setback, right?
Like all those
And that was the young team that you got
And when is the fan base being more excited?
Yes, the finals run, of course,
but that's not excited about the team.
That's excited about what's happening.
That was a young team that was really good
and it fell apart.
Because those guys wanted to go somewhere else.
And that's fine, that's their right.
But that's the only time
that they've done it.
Yeah, and they didn't choose to rebuild.
they were forced into it because they were forced into and quit hiding from it you had a great group of kids and you had the top line in the NHL almost like there were some real happy moments that came out of that yeah yeah you pissed your pants against the others which is too bad but they were like that could draw goal against Dallas it's a top moment in the last decade yeah my kid brought it up last night at the dome he's like I was at the game which I'm so cool
And maybe we get there.
Like maybe we get there.
But it feels like the, I'm trying to think of, like, was it Charlie Brown when he's like walking with his head down and like kick it?
It's like at some, maybe it's in December, maybe it's in January.
But you know what?
You can come to, if you were, come to the dome and be excited about the prospect of what the next five, 10 years can be.
As opposed to, geez, how are we going to beat, how are we going to beat Tampa tonight?
No, how are we going to, how are we going to turn this shit around?
It's exciting to have the potential.
And you're not starting from scratch.
You've got some young players already.
Pinder talks about it.
I think there's some good players already that you've drafted,
but you're missing the studs.
And finally, you get a chance to maybe get one.
You have a massive.
So look at the two, two are probably the most surprised.
I mean, Anaheim, San Jose in Chicago.
Those are the youngest, most exciting teams, I think.
Yep.
So what did, what did Anaheim, I don't even, who's the goaltender there?
Coastal, yeah.
Young good?
Yes.
Yeah.
Chicago.
What did they go out and do?
They were horseshit last year.
What did they get this year?
Spencer Knight, goalie.
Spencer Knight's been good.
San Jose.
What did they do last year?
Got Ascarov from Nashville.
You have Wolf.
Yeah.
You got the one piece.
You've got the one piece.
Get the other one.
Yeah.
It's exactly that.
When you look at this roster, everyone is on one line too high.
Cadre and Huberto and let's say Coronado is a good second line.
Those are your best three forwards.
Rastor San Antonio is probably a fine second pair.
I'm like, they're your top pair right now.
Everyone is overslaughted by one line because you do not have stars.
Your goalie was a star last year.
He's been about league average this year.
He'll have many seasons ahead where he is a star.
don't screw up this opportunity to get a franchise altering star,
maybe even a superstar.
Don't screw it up.
Yeah.
Would you rather go watch this team of veterans lose three to one
or a group of 22-year-olds lose three-to-one?
I'd rather see Matt Vigridden in the spring and Hunter Brestevich up with the big club
and Zane Perrek running PowerPlay 1 than watching 35, 36, 33, 31-year-old,
you should have traded, you know, slumping down.
down the home stretch after they didn't get moved to the deadline.
It's not even close.
And I think they will.
I think they will too.
I'm not freaking out about it last night.
It's just a bad PR look because I think they're smart enough that if they're last in December,
they are going to do the right things.
It's just when you come on TV and say that, you're crushing yourself.
What if, what if that's what he thinks?
Well, you argued last year to if you wanted to be really bold and brave that they should have
traded Anderson if they wanted full.
max asset value, right? And they didn't.
So I get what you're saying, but the argument is that they've not
fault, right? Like they, oh yeah, no, look, if they don't trade
Nazim Kadri this year and there's good offers out there, if they
resign Rasmus Anderson for the back nine of his career, if they don't move
like a guy like Coleman to a contender where everyone's looking for that checking
third line winger that's got rings, like they'll get double barrels.
It's just that now is not the time to trade them anyway.
hopefully they'll come to their senses if they do believe what they told us last night.
Is there any party of you, though, that thinks there's more, like that.
I could see them holding on to cadre for another year, but I'm not even talking about the
trades, just that that's, that's, and I don't know what we don't ever hear from Nonas and we
don't hear from Jerome and I don't know how.
The owner does not speak to the public.
Pike said it last night.
He's never said a public word about the two.
But what if when, if you're Craig Conroy and you, Pascal, and you go and you.
sit down. I mean, those are,
the owner is obviously above you and
Don Maloney is, I mean, he's the, like,
poho. What if that's, those are the
marching orders and that's,
that's the directive is we're, no, we're, we're
good. We're just a couple wins away. We went
three, four, five in a row here. We're right back into it. Look
how many points we're at. We'll be right back by Christmas. We can be
in a wild card spot. Is there too many, uh, chefs in the
kitchen? Because you just named a,
of names there.
And I just out some.
Left some out for sure, too.
It's challenging because we're just, we're kind of guessing at backroom
conversations that we don't get to hear.
Do I have some concern about it?
Some, but I also think it's good, the writing's going to be so clearly on the wall that
looking in the mirror, they're going to have to do this.
But how are you mis- I don't disagree with you.
I think they will have to trade guys and Conroy will just do it because it will end up
in that position.
Yeah.
You and you and a whole.
bunch of people that we know that would be knowledgeable hockey people.
Not last summer.
Even the summer before we're like,
this team is not designed well.
Even this year was like,
last year was a great year for everyone,
but I don't know what makes you believe,
they believed in it.
Is it their job to believe in it just because,
They have to believe in it, right?
Like two years, two summers ago, we were screaming from the rooftops.
Dismantle this bullshit.
Start over.
Now, they had one heck of a year last year.
So we looked like we ate crow and we were wrong.
Well, they've brought, they've rolled them back out and now they're no good.
So why do we believe that they're, they really have this?
willingness or plan to change.
I think, yeah.
Their plan A was 97 points.
We get it.
I'm just having a tough time believing there isn't a plan B.
I don't think they're ready to publicly talk about it yet.
But the conversations I have with people around there is like,
there's absolutely a plan B here.
It just might,
you might have to sell plan B to a lot of people.
Right?
Like Murray, trust us.
This is the right move moving forward.
It's hard when you have to sell it.
up the ladder, right?
That's how the start.
You have to sell it up the ladder, but you might not even be able to deliver it.
Who's delivering it?
Dawn?
I would,
like how many people do you need to convince?
Yes,
like just going to,
we don't know.
The three of us argue about shit all the time and it's fine,
but we're not making decisions that are going to impact every fan that shows up at
the dome.
Like the buck stops with Murray.
But if you got,
okay,
so now I got to go through this guy,
so you spend time convincing it.
So here's what I'm thinking.
Oh, I don't know.
Well, you know what?
Maybe I'm coming around to your way of thinking, okay, well, now we got to go upstairs and do this whole process over again.
That's going to take some time.
I just, you know what, this, you talk about Godreau and that, the team that beat Dallas in the playoffs and then lost to the Oilers.
Exciting young team.
And then it all went away.
Kachuk leaves.
Goodro leaves.
Everything, you know, oof.
Okay.
Pivot.
Huberto, Weiger.
Coach out, GM out.
Right. So you tried that. That didn't work. To use to use a like a like a business analogy. You know what this is? So you were there and then you tried to maintain but now you've by the dip. You're in the dip. Don't like don't don't be fooled when you're too high because you do that a lot. You get fooled by what you think you are when you're not. Don't be fooled by what you are.
time don't be thinking you're better than you are buy into it it's right there for you and i like i
say we we can move on we're just kind of talking circles but i think the team is ultimately just going to
be what they are and i don't think it's going to be i don't think they're going to get out of the
bottom five of the standings in terms of points no and to to further it and somewhat change it but
back to what has come up the best approach is what you guys brought up is that
convincing the owner to chew on some money.
You don't want to rebuild for six years?
Speed it up.
Speed it up.
Retain some money on going.
You have that like you have that power.
Yes.
Speed it up.
Like Kent wrote that article for the herald.
Ken Wilson,
it is afterburner with us time to time.
And he said the flames,
this ethical tank, like let gravity do its work.
And I really believe that is going to happen.
Like the stupidest thing on planet Earth they could do.
is go trade like a pick or a young player to get a veteran right now, right?
Like that's idiotic.
The good news is they're just going to sit and let this play out for a bit longer.
And that's kind of the message they had.
They're not ready to say we're bad.
We're throwing the towel in.
But at least they're not like quick move out of that first we got from Vegas.
And we got to bring in another center.
Like, no, they got a waiver claim.
Like whatever.
They didn't spend bad money on July 1.
Like, it's not a team that's convinced they're a contender.
That would be the dumbest take on this team.
That would be the thing, right?
If you put your Conroy hat on and say, hey, we're thinking,
is there anything out there that can help us, you know,
get a little bit more scoring?
Is there anything out there?
I mean, even if you've been talking,
no, there's not much going on out there.
Sorry, no, I ask.
I've been trying.
Oh, okay.
But then you flip it.
It's like, you know, though, while I was talking to guys,
there's a market there's a market there for some of our guys that we could trade.
Oh, no, no, no, no.
I don't know.
I like our core.
I think we're good.
Oh, my God.
Does anybody have a hammer hit me in the head with it?
And you started off the conversation with the perfect context.
Don't take what teams say publicly at face value.
Look for the messages they're sending.
Don't take their words literally.
And that's an important thing to remember when you watch that chat last night.
There's a bunch of supercats that have come in on this.
I feel like now might be the time to hit it.
Dino, otherwise we're doing this chat again.
You know, it is.
But because I mean, I'm the one that says,
I'm the one that says it all.
time is what else are they going to say don't take everything you hear or most of what you hear
but at some point when that message is the same over and over despite all the signs in the world
indicating certain things should be the opposite as a fan you have the right to be frustrated and
say what is going on are these guys the right guys to be running this because i'll say it again
this is an important time in this franchise right now the next six eight months are massive
for what this team's going to be in the next five to ten years.
And if these guys, if this is what they think, if this is truly, oh, we're good.
No, get them the fuck out and get some people in there with a little bit more creativity and forward thinking
and are actually paying attention to what the other 31 teams in the league are doing to get better.
Intellectual honesty.
That was the Jay Feaster coin phrase, right?
It was just like, look in the mirror.
be honest, what are you looking at?
Because if Conroy's going into work every day
and he's talking to teams about
cadre or Rasmus and doing all this
and he's just constantly budding up against the wall
well no, I mean, we're we're,
if we can beat Dallas, we got two wins in a row.
And then if we win on the start the road trip,
that the three, that's a, that's a winning streak.
Handing your goddamn resume and like your resignation.
Resignation.
Because you'll get a job somewhere else, Connie.
If you're dealing with that, I feel for you every day.
And I hope it's not.
the case.
So anyway.
You want to hit these supers? They're all topical.
So where do you want to wait till the end?
I can do it now. Sure. Jack was saying they're all
topical, so let's just hit them. Yeah, there's a couple topical.
Let's get into them now.
All right. How many times
has the flames finished strong just to miss the playoffs and guys like
Maloney think all is good for next season too
often? Didn't they go like 801 one down the stretch
there? They were under that heater to get some of the net to
96. Yeah.
It's happened. Joe Colburn,
every fourth shot went in and he got to what
1920 goals one year in a meaningless season.
Daryl refused to play a backup
and ran Markstrom out for four in a row
and it cost them two draft slots.
Like they've done this before.
Don't do it this year.
That guy is nerd to start.
And I, you know what?
I guess I see why I see why coaches would be that way.
It's like I don't give a shit about your draft pick.
I'm not going to be here when that kid,
if he plays, does actually play.
I'm going to be judged by my win-loss record as a coach.
And I just as soon gets.
and wins. So I do kind of get that, but that's why there's people above coaches that run the
business. But that's bad business when you're not in hand in hand on this.
Sure. I get your take on that, but I guarantee you there's other organizations where it's like,
no, you're not playing that guy. We're trying to get a draft pick here. This is a mean.
You're mathematically eliminated. Stop playing your number one. Yeah. Now, that's Daryl and he would
throw a shoe at you in his office if you went and said that.
In Moneyball, Billy Bean, he traded Pena, right?
So they couldn't start him at first.
Hattaburg.
I wanted to see Hattaburg at first.
Scott Hattaberg, yeah.
I need Cooley in net.
Yeah, you want to play Marky tonight, Harold?
Sorry, I put Markstrom on personal leave.
He's going to attend to some family business.
Go home early to Sweden.
All right.
Next one.
Big Bear, 69.
Who is Maloney trying to fool?
Season ticket holders?
Other GMs will up their offers because you're delusional?
I don't know what that.
less like smart bluff, more like stupid truth.
That's how this whole thing started,
is if you're a fan, I feel like,
just reading body language and everything.
Does he really think this?
It felt like you're treating the fans like they're dumb.
It did.
Not a dumb fan base.
It's not.
So good, yeah, good text there, Big Bear.
Big Bears tend to agree with you.
hashtag fix the fucking roof.
Yeah, thank you.
Thank you, Matt.
It doesn't mean you have a shitty house
or you're living in smaller.
House is great.
Just needs a little...
You've got a great house.
People love coming to it.
People rave about,
they will rave about your house.
Good bones.
But before the foundation starts to rot
because your roof's fucked,
fix the fucking roof.
Yes.
Stop putting pots and pans on the floor
to catch the drips.
Fix the fucking room.
It's not like we don't like nice things.
We love nice things.
Well, pay for them.
Pay big money for them.
Just fix it.
Dear Liza.
That's it for now.
Okay.
Thank you, Jack.
Very good.
Thank you.
If,
so big flames win, everyone's happy.
Yeah.
It would be interesting, though,
honestly, I'm sitting here thinking, like,
what are they thinking about this?
Like, they're back in Calder.
And they wake up this morning,
they're like, holy Christ,
this is quite,
to shitstorm we're in.
Like, is it?
And are they going, what's the big deal?
I answered a couple questions.
I don't know.
Again, when we're trying to analyze how a management team works,
we don't, we're guessing at everything.
Do they know?
Are they like, whoops, that was a mistake?
Are they now going to go and like do some PR, like,
tamp this down?
I have no idea.
I don't know.
Like, there isn't a lot of transparency as to the owners never said anything
publicly.
and we really don't, you know,
and we probably shouldn't have a look at how front office works
in the sense that you're best to keep a lot of those conversations
behind closed doors,
but you just can't let that guy,
but we can.
Yeah, wait a minute,
wait a minute,
I don't disagree with you.
You don't need to be behind the closed doors,
but you need to understand how the front office worked.
Do you not understand how the Tampa Bay front office worked?
Oh, it works well.
I mean,
how is the Bill Zito, Florida Panthers front office works?
Yeah, real sharp, yeah.
Right?
Like, I get what you're saying.
Yeah, you don't have to.
Organizationally, don't let that guy go in front of camera last night if that's the messaging you're going to do.
But as a fan, like, we're free to speculate and to have an opinion on how they're doing it.
No, no, I'm not saying don't speculate.
I'm saying from like a flames PR perspective, don't let that guy talk last night.
Nothing good came from it.
Only bad.
No, no, no, no.
It's both sides again.
He should be able to deliver a better message.
Yes, he should.
It should be a, this is a great opportunity for your,
front office to deliver
a message.
Yeah.
It's a town hall statement in a way.
That should be part of what you're capable of deliver.
That's the job of the media in the world is to relay the message from the people in power
to the people in the public.
That's why Don Maloney went on.
It was not to hang with parks for eight minutes.
It was to talk to the fans.
The fans want to hear.
from management about this team that's 32nd in the league.
And what they heard was,
we think we're good.
We're going to come out and play hard here.
And then we're going to try and beat Dallas and we're going to give it a good old
fashion try.
And if it's complete smokescreen,
then give the Oscar,
the Academy Award to Don Maloney.
Seriously.
But like that second text removed there,
there's just,
there's some truth in there,
which is,
if you're a fan,
it's right.
And even if there's not true.
It's just a message that didn't need to be delivered in that way.
So yes, Ryan's right.
Don't go on there.
But on the other hand, don't say what you did and try to BS the people that are watching you're closest.
And you missed a great opportunity to be in front of everyone and go, listen, we understand.
Yeah.
We understand.
We can watch.
We can see.
We like our guys.
We had a great.
Like there's so many ways of saying it.
You know what it is too, retro?
and you would know and we all know.
Just in general, from over the years,
if you're in the media, you're around the team.
And if you were to suggest or just say,
oh, this team is no good or man, God,
I'm happy watching them lose so they can turn things around.
The thought behind is, oh, well, you're not a real flames fan.
Because a real fan, a real fan, they just want to win all the time.
The 5% that still believe this team's coming back.
Oh, I mean, you always want your team to win.
You're not a real fan.
Not true.
Real fans are smart.
Real fans want exciting hockey.
They want that's, and if I, it just, it just drives me crazy.
It just, you, pay attention to fan bases in the NFL and you hear what's said about
ownership and that.
It's like, so the, like, Calgary's pretty tame when it comes to media and fans being up in arms.
But don't mistake.
that for being naive or dumb because they're not.
They know what's going on and they see it.
And then which, oh, yeah, you talk about mansplaining, like whatever you want to call it.
It's like, get out of here with that.
That's how you lose fans is when you're ignorant to them and think that they're dumb.
And that's what it felt like.
Yep.
And all he had to do is add one nugget.
If we are where we are in two months, we've got assets to turn into young players.
That simple sentence would have changed the entire tenor.
was no acknowledgement that where they are is real.
Well, you just, I'm, but I mean, so who's your favorite team then?
Well, you're not a, well, I guess you're not a real fan.
You're not a flames fan, you want to win championships and they are so fucking far away with this roster.
So yes, I do want them to be bad because a real fan would want the superstars that you see
on every single Stanley Cup roster.
And this is going to sound like, like I'm backtracking it, but I, like, oh, Murray's got to sell it.
Murray doesn't need to sell the team.
Murray's a billionaire.
You want a billionaire to run your team.
You don't want to have Barry Shankarrow or whoever in Winnipeg that couldn't afford to pay.
You don't want what happened in Arizona where they can't give guys game day per diem and can't feed.
You don't want that.
You want the billionaire who loves the team and Murray does.
He loves the team and he's got all the money in the world.
So don't sell the team.
They go up to the cap every year.
If the money, like they're there.
That's fine.
it's just the mentality of how to get to the top.
Yes.
To me needs to change.
Yeah, the plan,
whatever the plan they've had for 20 years hasn't worked,
fellas,
sorry,
you're dead last.
And it's,
you got one win in the second round in the last,
yeah,
21 years.
Whatever,
whatever philosophy you've had,
you need a tweak.
Didn't we bring it up?
And I don't know it to be true.
And I'm,
I'm maybe making bullshit up.
Don't the sabers have more wins in a plan?
Yeah, since the lockout.
So we hate the Sabres because they are the example of futility in the NHL,
but they actually have more playoff wins than the Calgary Flames since the run.
You're stuck in peak pain.
You're missing and you're not picking high.
Here's your one chance to actually pick high.
To your point, when's the last time the team was, say, like a Carolina,
a team that just, oh, well, they're going to make the playoffs.
It's just a matter.
Are they going to have home ice in round one?
And who would, round two, who would it be?
Every year.
It's a, Jesus, I don't know if they're getting in.
It's a slog.
It's a scrape every bloody year.
You're not, I do believe you're not that far away time wise or effort and
transaction wise from being a team that's like, yeah, we're up and come.
We're in the middle of the pack in the West, maybe a little bit higher.
We're a playoff team every year.
And when the playoffs start,
just the good as shot as any.
I think they're three years away from that if they do it right.
Now,
they could lose the lottery balls and they could finish.
Even if they play poorly,
it doesn't mean they're going to finish dead last.
Like,
they might finish fourth.
You might not,
I don't care.
You can manage this.
The assets that you have allow you the ability
to be back in a great position in three years.
That,
I believe that.
I really, really, really, really believe that.
Yes.
If you make the, like we said earlier,
if you could trade those four or five vets I mentioned and add another two firsts
and two seconds and picking the top two,
you're,
it's a way quicker turn, fellas.
Yeah.
Don't fall in love with the 35 year old moments before he goes off a cliff.
Hearing loss clinic.
No,
and if selling those assets means that you're terrible next year,
even better.
Perfect.
Because that's only going to speed it up more.
Correct.
Oh, we got to have guys that have played me.
To a call.
What do you mean?
To what?
There's lots of those left.
Don't worry.
If you want more.
There's a,
you remember Manta last year?
You can go pick him up in August.
Yeah.
Yep.
And again,
it's like you want to go even for a little bit further down the road.
You're also not far away from being a team and a city that could be a real fucking
great destination for players.
They got a new barn.
The city is great.
It's close to the mountains.
They got a young superstar up the middle or on the blue light.
Why not Calgary?
You're not far from all of it.
It seems good.
They bring in a titanic shift in the image and the,
just everything about the team.
It's such an important.
The hole has been dug for the building and you're 32nd in the league.
Rejoice, guys.
It's actually a perfect season.
It's a fucking, it's a great,
It's a great gift you're being given.
Don't fuck it up.
Smart and up.
Hearing loss clinic.
Locally owned and operated.
Here to help.
Look at me wound up.
I never give a shit.
Why was being in your bonnet this morning?
You don't like roll by eyes of pender.
Don't give us the BS.
I don't like it.
I like it, Dean.
That's great stuff.
Travis and Sabrina Rhodes,
great people and the best of what they do.
people of all ages, as we know, can suffer from hearing loss.
Hearing issues can be especially challenging for kids.
They don't know what's going on.
It can affect friendships and the classroom.
And as we've learned, studies showing that health risks like dementia, depression,
others linked to untreated hearing loss, they do custom ear protection,
musician molds, in-ear stage monitors, and of course, hearing aids should you need them.
If you've not been in the last year, you owe it to yourself.
Five locations in Calgary, the new Chinook location at the corner of McLeod and

Always got giveaways and things going on there as well on both the X and Insta, the IG,
the gram, as the kids still call it that. Are they still on Instagram? I think probably are.
Kids are on the TikTok, I think now. Oh. Yeah. Yeah. Ask Jack. He's a kid.
I'm on all the socials.
It's great for your mental.
Yeah, you are.
Any good AI stuff come up lately?
The oilers one yesterday was on point.
That was very long point.
Good timing.
And could probably, there's more fodder to make more TikToks.
After what happened last night.
I felt bad.
I forgot when you had the, the Hogan Savage one.
I brought it up and you dug it up and then I forgot to throw.
Sorry about that, Jack.
Oh, that's not I feel bad.
They should go to all that work and then forget to throw it to you.
Hey, on Sunday, we are going to be doing a live barn burner from Cowboys Casino.
We did one, I guess it was opening night.
Yep, season opener against Edmonton.
They were on the road and we were at Cowboys in the Sports Lounge and the casino.
That's right.
So we're going back.
So it's a Sunday.
So there's a football and there'll be some hockey.
So get this boy.
Sunday nighter is Rams Bucks.
Baker against Staff Daddy.
It's going to be a banger of a game.
and Flames Canucks.
All those recliners, order food right to your seat,
sit back in comfort and watch all the sports with a little bit of in the background.
So do join us or at the very least,
make sure you join us on YouTube as we'll go at 6 o'clock prior to the 7 o'clock buck drop.
Always split a eights.
You're going to want to split those eights, Ryan.
Okay, thank you.
Yeah, you're going to want to do that for sure.
Let's, if there's,
We just kind of frothed at the mouth for about an hour.
There's some other things going on in the world.
And for that, we go to the Pinder Report.
You want?
All right.
Pinda Report's presentation of Village Honda, fellas.
Did you scrape the windshield tomorrow?
Did you have to turn the car on to warm it up?
Winter's on its way and the winter ready used SUV event is on now.
Save thousands on pre-owned all-wheel drive four-by-four SUVs.
Look, we don't live in Palm Springs.
We don't live in Miami.
You're going to need a vehicle to get you through the winter.
Check out the selection now online at villagana.com or visit the dealership in the northwest
automobile.
We started Flames Nation for the writers.
They be a writing.
We did not mention this yesterday, but I think it was two days ago.
Francis penned a piece saying, uh, Zane Perak, if healthy, will be going to the world juniors.
He, of course, got, what was it?
He got fellinode into the wall, looked like owie on the wrist.
and the timetable is still week to week.
It is not an imminent return.
That tournament, of course, gets going with their,
what is it, the boxing day opener
and the pre-tournament matches on the other side of Christmas.
Sorry, I'm just,
I think that means they don't trust them to play.
Well, do what you want.
I said it early.
I wouldn't do it, but go ahead.
Well, and here's the thing, like, without the injury,
that was the message you gave.
With the injury, there is sort of another layer.
Maybe you can say, okay, get them back,
and then this and then back to the big club,
we'll see. If he was a Calgary flame straight to the world juniors,
there's a different sort of emotional setting around that, isn't there,
right? Yes, and did you read? I was on the plane
and I glanced at the article. It didn't sound like a kid that was pumped
to be going if he's going. I don't know. Yeah, that's...
And I'm sure, again, he'll say what he's supposed to say
and put on a brave face, but my interpretation of
of his comments.
Oh, well, if they send me,
I have to.
And I mean, it sounds like backpedaling from us
because Ryan brought it up and
we were both like, no, you don't send them.
But I do believe that if he were healthy
and playing every night,
even if like 12 minutes, 13, 14,
then I don't think he's going.
But I do think that there's a, I think that we've seen it.
It's been two or three times.
I think there's a concern about his health.
He's not putting himself into the best spots at times.
So there's,
that.
You do want him to play.
So this is an opportunity for him to play.
Maybe get some confidence back.
Yeah, maybe he doesn't want to go.
But in this circumstance,
and again, I guess I'm flipping on it.
I think it's just an opportunity to play.
Yeah, I'm fine with him going.
And the other thing is like, look,
I think the mood around the room probably isn't horrendous now.
It might be real bad in a month.
Or maybe it's fine.
Like, we don't know how the next 10 games are going to go.
You're a kid.
You don't.
You're just tagging along.
And I just hope if he does go to this tournament and health allows him to,
that he puts on the jersey and just enjoys playing for his country,
sometimes it feels like you've been taken from the NHL.
I hope this is,
here's a chance to be put on an international showcase and then return to your NHL Club.
Jack's team has a kid that's kind of in the same boat.
They haven't made an announcement about it,
but Brunachie in Pittsburgh, they're, they're,
humming and haunt on that.
I'm in Hawn on it as well.
I don't know that they're going to get Kindle.
He's been really good.
Kindle's, see, and that's what you've said.
That's what we want Zane to be, but he got hurt.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And for Perek, too, it's, yeah, for Perek, it's, you're also taking a look at the guys that were drafted around.
He's like, oh, they're playing.
He could probably use a little, a little pick me up and playing some hockey would be good for him.
Go get some gold, would you, Zane or share.
If you're going, you may as well win.
Don't lose it.
Okay.
That is one item on the website, another one.
Rett's going to love this because Rett is like early adapter.
He was all over AI years ago.
Our boy, Adrian KISS.
This is a cheeky comment.
Could AI do a better job?
Adrian,
come on.
The kister.
Adrian.
That's why Connie's not signed.
They're considering all options.
Sorry, Craig, but the first.
That is a cheeky-ass article right there.
You can find it on Flipation.ca.
Did you read it?
I haven't yet.
It just popped up and look at the timing.
Oh, I might have to.
Right when we started the show, I grabbed a screenshot and threw it up.
I just hope it's fresh pot shots because we wouldn't do that.
Nothing associated with us.
Now, here's the thing.
We haven't really got into the Dunlony comments from last night ever.
We didn't?
I'm kidding.
Last night, we only did an hour.
Last night on Afterburner, Ryan Pike, who's been a beat reporter for the team for over a decade
and a half and one of our lead writers of the website, Bobby Jeremy, Robert Munich.
They went through all the clips, not just one, and they reacted to it.
And there's a really nice back and forth between how you might feel as a fan and then what
kind of messages are not said, but maybe can be implied here.
More on that if you want it.
Almost 2,000 views.
It was only put up to 10 hours ago.
So more from Pike and Bobby Germany on the Don Maloney interview, which was a
Bobby, Bobby got a big smile going.
Maloney's like, I mean, that's, who picked that screen grab?
That's me.
Looks like he's on trial for a crime.
Maybe cherry picking there.
That's how it works, boom.
Hoop.
No, shut up, Dean.
Guys, Devin Cooley's actually been pretty damn good.
Here are the numbers for six games.
Now, again, this is the same team that allows breakaways and two-on-ones from Wolfsonnet.
Here are the numbers.
Ignore the win losses.
He's one-two-and-one.
but a 1.8 GAA and a 935 save percentage,
would you let the kid play?
Let him play.
What's your own damn sheets.
And good for him because he knows what his preseason and second half of last year was.
This is a nice little bounce back for him.
He's doing it in the NHL.
And no one had any faith that he could do it at the start of the year.
So good for him.
Yep.
Just another reminder, how incredibly useless the preseason is to learn anything.
It's been great.
I wonder if you see him against Dallas Saturday.
Certainly I think he's playing one of the two.
They go to Vancouver on Sunday for the back-to-back.
Where are you starting him, Dino?
Dallas.
Dallas?
You don't honestly, I keep him going.
He's hot.
Keep the kid hot.
Yeah, I mean, either way, you're going to, like you say,
you're going to play him on the trip somewhere.
I probably putting him in Vancouver.
I'm probably putting him in Vancouver.
Okay.
Retro?
Yeah, he's getting the secondary starts.
But I'm not, I'm not, I have no.
interest in riding him, but
no, but he's playing well, let him run, yeah.
And he'll get one in the weekend.
Yeah, I'll play him, but I'm not going to give,
I'm giving Wolf the better starts.
Not again, as in, he's at home, he starts.
Sure.
Uh, we'll move on.
There's been a lot of draft rankings that have dropped in the last
couple days here.
We started daily face off.
I don't know that necessarily everyone in the flames management team
believes the flames are going to pick eye, but a lot of fans are
looking into a team.
Stephen Ellis at Daily Faceoff still has Gavin McKenna, number one.
But the first sentence is telling the gap appears to be closing ever so slightly,
but McKenna's still the number one.
Still at Daily Face Off, number two, Keaton Verhoff,
the hulking right-shot defenseman who has been excellent from North Dakota.
As the youngest defenseman in the NCAA, at 17 fellas,
there's no bad choices in the top two is kind of where I'm leaning here.
And then even a little further at number three.
Ivar Stenberg's having a monster.
You're playing against men in the top league in Sweden.
The important sort of takeaways here, look at the bottom.
Last time a kid at this age has done this,
Cedine Twins, Marcus Naslin, good players.
Sam Cousantino, a sports net,
had his draft rankings for November drop yesterday.
He's got Verhof one.
Who! Wow.
McKenna 2, Stemberg 3,
and over at the athletic, Scott Wheeler.
This was from November 6,
so a little earlier the season,
McKenna won Stanberg to Verhof 3.
If there are three studs at the top of the draft,
if you finish last and lose the two lottery polls,
you will still pick in the top three.
It's a nice class to be at the top of the draft,
or at least it looks as such here towards the end of November.
We should maybe do some road trips,
get out and see these kids play,
really get on it for all the flames fans who are interested in these.
Yeah, when's Nodak playing at ASU?
It's going to win.
It's a good trip, Brian.
I think I've never been to that
I've never been to that rank I'd love to get there
Penn State
When's Penn State playing in Miami or something?
No, it seems to Miami yet.
Oh shit.
Yeah, soon enough.
Miami, Ohio, Dean.
Not the same, but
It's certainly not the same Ohio.
Schedule, here's your back to back.
We've talked about it numerous times.
Late start, late half of the Hockeyton
Canada double header against the stars.
That's a fun one.
Stars are very good.
we'll be go around and be around.
We'll see.
And Flames Canucks, the Sunday evening game, a reminder again,
we will be watch partying at the Cowboys Casino from their sports lounge.
The recliners are top-notched deep.
I don't know if there's any way I could wheel one out and throw it in the back of the truck,
but they're unbelievable.
I wouldn't do it.
I won't do it, but God, they're nice.
Also, look at this, Glennie and Otto.
We're going to be signing autographs when the game gets going.
We got the pregame show.
They got the signatures during the game.
And we did this on opening night.
If you remember opening night, went.
It was 3-0 Oilers.
Stuart Skinner, gift-wrapped the victory for the flames.
It went to the shootout.
Here was our watch party on opening night.
Please don't know if we have this, John.
Really big hype job here.
People excited.
There's rats.
He's ecstatic.
Jim Hunter.
That's the type of fun we're going to be having Sunday night.
All kinds of prizes you gave away.
too, Rhett, didn't you?
I'm surprised.
I like the Euler honks in the front
row.
Oh, shit.
Still got Skinner, right?
Yeah, but.
Don't worry, it'll turn around.
We're not going to have four regulation wins
by the end of November.
Yeah, there's 81 left.
We'll probably win 79 of those.
Let's meanwhile get to the bottom 10 in the NHL.
There's the oiler seventh from the bottom,
still with four regulation wins.
Ugly lost last night.
Seven to four against Washington?
Or is it seven, five?
Either way, they kept.
rally and trying to get it close, and their goalie kept letting in more.
It was eventually two empty-in-ed-ed-ers, so 7-4 was your final.
Oilers are hurting, and they're back on the road again tonight.
After two and a half hours of travel after that game, getting into their hotels at 2.30
in the morning with their starter with the worst goaltending numbers in the NHL going tonight,
that's Cal Pickard.
We may revisit that in our Bet365 segment later.
Wink, wank, nudge, nudge.
There's your finals, 7-4-6-2.
A lot of overs. Overs paid on all four friends.
Look at the ducks. Another win.
And the wild are getting going.
That's a quality win over Carolina.
Getting some goal tending.
Sure.
A couple items of note from last night.
Calgary boy, Adam Lowry, there's a captain.
There's a centerman. There's a guy that's built for the playoffs.
Five.
Bow Valley Flames.
BVF, okay.
Old man, of course, assistant coach at the County Flames.
Lowry, longer in the tooth, but that is a leader and they needed to get them done.
They got them done.
Great player.
Winnipeg hanging on to their guys, eh?
Impressive stuff.
That's not easy to do, I don't think.
No, like Eilers opted to go.
They wanted to keep him.
But other than that, I mean, they've retained a core over the last four years that I
didn't think they were going to be able to do.
Like Neil Pianchri up, they've done some great work there under shovel day off.
Thought of you guys when this news item came up.
up. A2 Lesterinen, the third liner for the Florida Panthers and back-to-back Stanley Cup champion week to week after suffering
burns during a barbecue accident per the head coach, Paul Maurice.
Hmm.
Grease fire?
We had the thing in Chicago with the Devils and Jack Hughes.
A bunch of those bags out there, fellas.
So have you heard of these tongues, Listerinen?
You don't need to use your hands to flip the steak.
Paul Maurice said not a quote.
necessarily, but a lot of his return will depend on how he feels when he puts his gear on.
That's not ideal.
That sounds like burns.
I'm sorry.
Who was it?
Was it?
Iser Chelyos, who got their shit cut up with the snowblower?
Sackett.
That was sack.
That was sack.
Yeah.
Hire someone to cook your food or whatever.
My favorite freak injury was there was a baseball reliever like 20 years ago that severely
burnt himself trying to iron a shirt while he was wearing it.
Yeah.
That's going to be tough to be, but this is close.
Who wasn't in the NFL last year?
Nojoku or is it two years ago?
Yes.
He had major burns.
Well, and then there was Jason Pierre Paul was the fireworks on July 4.
But he blew his fingers off.
That's not a other level.
And didn't want to tell anyone.
But you're missing digits.
You're going to have to tell us eventually.
Hey, JPP, high five.
Oh, sorry.
High three.
Tonight's games.
I'm sorry.
I can't let myself.
Big slate.
Look at this, fellas.
12 games?
Red walk us through it.
There's 12 games, Dino.
Any ones you want to watch, Rhett?
Any of them?
If you lean in a little more,
you'll...
I don't know.
I wouldn't want to take any comfort in other people's
misery, but that Edmonton, Tampa game's talking to me at 7.30 Eastern.
Blow it again, yeah.
They're not even blowing games. They just don't win. Yeah.
Probably your best contest of the night is the Sends, who saw Brady Kachuk return to the ice,
but will not play against the ducks who I think are the funnest team in hockey right now.
There's your 8 o'clock start out on the West Coast. Keep moving.
Thursday night, or we got one. Ratt's team is in action. The Buffalo Allens against the Houston.
Oh my God, that's a huge neck.
Is that General Mills?
Is that Davis Mills?
Who was the guy with the huge neck we always used to?
Rich Gannon.
No.
Mike Lennon?
Or Mike Lennon?
That's what it was.
So it'll be the Allen's against the giraffes.
That's a 615 kickoff mouse.
Putting his neck in the line tonight.
Does he need one of those little travel pillows for the airplane to put under his
That's a lot of exposed area.
Okay, here's your line for tonight's game.
Use a girdle for a neck guard.
This was five and a half earlier in the week.
The line continues to slide towards Buffalo favored by six now.
Money line has the Texans of plus 225 if you think they can pull off the upset.
And you're over under is 43 and a half, which I believe would set you up for what?
Like a 24 to 18-ish type score?
I don't know.
Who you got tonight, Rhett?
I think I'll go bills tonight just because of the few.
Changed a base.
Yeah.
That's great.
Road game,
but yeah.
Stroud is out.
So.
Yeah.
Finally,
I looked at you're a fantasy team.
You have no quarterbacks.
I already fixed that.
Oh,
did you?
Okay.
I've got the neck man.
Did you pick up General Mills?
Yes.
Makes some mean cereal.
Do you know that General Mills is out of Buffalo, actually?
Is he really?
No, he's hosting Buffalo tonight.
How about that story?
Look at that neck.
Good Lord.
finally seeing over the O line.
No worries.
We'll do football picks tomorrow and look, maybe we aren't the best at predicting NFL games.
And maybe predictions are really hard and maybe even experts get predictions wrong.
But this might have been the worst prediction of all time.
Now let me set the scene before we play it.
This is June 14th, 1994, ahead of the Stanley Cup final between the Vancouver Canucks
and the New York Rangers with the Vancouver Canucks finally win their first championship.
You feeling good about tonight?
Oh, yeah, I'm pretty confident we're going to win game seven and have a peaceful celebration.
It's not like if we lose, everyone will go ape shit and loot VCRs or something.
Let's hope not.
Back to you guys.
And what happened?
Well, they lost game seven, went ape shit and started looting VCR.
That was pretty good video quality from, is that a I?
94.
It's a good looking.
Lute VCRs or nothing.
See, that's good because that's what the technology of that time would have been.
Right.
There's even a cartoon of a VCRs or something.
DC are there on the script. I wonder if that's real now that I've watched it again.
That's your Pinda Report this Thursday, November 20th. It's for our good friends at Village
Honda. Honda, excuse me, the iconic Honda prelude is back. It's back, Dino.
And arriving soon at Village Honda, legendary sports coupe has been reimagined as a hybrid
that expertly balances performance, a smooth ride and efficiency. Wow,
prelude. That's a big, big bounce back. Those were, yeah, those were super popular.
And then they went away.
Now they're bringing them back.
All right.
Great stuff.
Villageonda.
com or the Northwest Automol,
they're your dealership for life.
Back to you.
They wanted me to talk about something.
There it is.
Is this it?
Does anyone have a different opinion check on the chat that says you three are clowns?
You guys are idiots.
They're obviously going to win eight in a row and getting the playoffs.
I haven't seen it yet.
No,
everyone seems to agree with you guys.
That makes us really special.
That's why last night didn't go over well.
because I think everyone in the fan base is on the same page here.
Just a reminder, the Jasper Pond Hockey Tournament is coming once again at the Fairmont
Jasper Park Lodge, 23rd to 25th of January.
Out in the Rockies?
How are in the Rockies?
Lake Mildred, surrounded by your best buddies, the Rockies, some hockey,
a little four-on-four pond harkey in the heart of Jasper.
Teams of four to eight players battling it out for the coveted Jaspers.
per cup. It is a great time we've got every year. We'll be going back once again.
A ton of fun. Skate hard or not, but a lot of memories that'll last a lifetime, I dare say,
the old ODR.
Win or lose? We're on the double seizures at the lobby bar. That's right. That's how we're
that. Nationgear.ca is the website where you can find details and to sign up, but get after it.
Get on it. Done some pro scouting here. I've had some conversations with Deeper.
wants to know if Rets going up.
We could use a steady defender.
I could use a drinking buddy on the sidelines.
That I told you.
Through my equipment away.
Yeah.
We lost Dean to the lobby Caesars.
He had one year with us on the ice.
Yeah.
Now he just bundles up, takes a little video,
and he's like,
yeah, it's probably enough.
I'll go back to the...
I'll just be right here on the side.
You guys play hockey, I guess,
is what you're doing out there.
All right, yeah.
You guys have had it.
And again, there's trophies and stuff.
But as long as we never lose to Oilers Nation,
it's a successful tournament.
and so far entirely successful tournaments.
Yeah, there is that.
I guess just a couple of things that I grabbed before we head out today.
We can, well, we'll start with this one because it goes back a day.
It was the New York Rangers and the Vegas Golden Knights.
And Red, it's funny how it goes.
See, Rhett's always in front.
Flying cars, AI, all the health stuff.
You're always at the four-day work week.
You were the one last week that kind of said,
you know, this J.T. Miller thing.
So he seems like he's a bit of a malcontent.
They hate him in Vancouver. They get him out.
He goes to New York and the Rangers put the sea on him right away.
Right away?
Like, that's your guy?
There was a shift in the,
well, we showed you the picture yesterday of them wearing the throwback or those
kind of classic, just kind of had his boomer face on.
It feels like he's maybe a little bit of a poopy pants off the ice.
But even on the ice.
some of his effort being questioned.
This is former NHL antagonist
Sean Avery and
Ranger, a beloved Ranger,
analyzing a recent shift of the captain.
All right, watch this shit show.
Quick up. Igor Shastjirkin
to J.T. Miller. Follow the pointer stick.
J.T.
dump the puck in. No, Mika, turnover.
Kiss of death. Turnovers at the offensive
blue line. Then we're going to watch J.T.
bottom of the screen, eight white.
captain of the New York Rangers.
Come in.
All right.
He's the low guy responsible.
Okay.
Oh.
And then stick check.
One over skate.
Here we go.
No man's land.
And then look at this.
Look at the straight-legged fuck right there.
Five hole goal.
That's the,
Estelle F.
I didn't realize, yeah.
He was,
I love his pointer.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's good.
See, again, it's his telestrote.
He's the professor.
Look at this straight
leg and fuck.
Rhett, you know what he was doing multiple times there?
Testing cakes.
Yes. Oh, yeah. He was really
best. Oh, no. Right there.
Right here. Oh, poke.
Nope. Fly by.
No, I guess I don't have it.
Oh, I can't catch that guy. So your emotional
leader is testing cakes.
Yeah, good. Captain.
That's your captain right there.
Don't worry, Chris has got all the problems out of there.
Yeah.
Also reminiscent, they kind of talk about how it's like when you're a video game,
your controller disconnects and you just kind of stand up.
Our buddy up the road in the old Bushbaum, he's been guilty of that a few times over the years.
And already this season.
A few times a season, yeah.
Last night, the Oilers were beaten by the Washington Capitals.
Washington.
And it's quite a highlight reel that the man has put together already this year.
but here's another one as
Ryan Leonard, who is
like 20, 21, the young man
sophomore decides,
I think I could beat this guy wide and
win a puck battle against them.
So he gets across the line and
oh, I see Red laughing. I see his shoulders
going up and down. This is
going to shrug you off and then go
backhand and you can't F off, good sir.
and skins great way to stay with the puck there as well.
Are skinny?
Any thoughts?
Any thoughts wrapped on?
You get what you.
You reap what you sow?
You reap what you sow.
I feel like I brought this up last year to playoffs.
Oh, you see it's sky.
I don't know.
He's very good offensively,
and he's also very good at making highlight reels in his own end.
He is both of those things.
It's, I don't want either of them on my team, thank you.
Here we are on November 20th.
The flames are in the catbird seat, Dino, in a great draft class, and the Oilers.
Keep doing what you're doing.
Everything.
Oilers are, yeah.
Yes, keep whatever the formula is, what the pregame speech is going to be.
Don't change a thing.
Yes, keep it up.
Thanksgiving is next week.
One week from today, I will be passed out on a couch.
With their last in goals against, last in five.
on five goals against and last in team save percentage.
Feels like a goaling shoe?
There's a cutoff point for making the playoffs.
I don't give a shit who you are.
You don't go 800 to the rest of the way out.
The only reason I said they kind of did it whatever it was two years ago, right?
It happens again.
We went to the finals in 04.
That's just.
Oilers at five on five this month.
Now it is the whatever 20th of November.
with Bouchard on the ice with nine goals for six against.
That's okay.
Without five goals for 21 against.
So there's more than just Bush problems there.
It would seem that way.
Now, old knobby.
Knob dog.
The knob dog was asked about the goaltending because there were seven that went in last night.
A couple of empty errors, but they don't seem to be getting saves.
He was like five times daily, I think, the coach of the Oilers asked about his goal tend.
You look at these nights where Stu's giving up a lot of goals and you're thinking, you know, it's on goaltending, but we're not making the game easy for him.
Well, that is the role of the team.
Help your goalie, man.
But don't worry, because tonight it's a back-to-back, so it won't be skin dog in net.
Calvin Pickard with his 4.18 goals against and his 830 save percentage will be tending the crease.
Good guy, though, Ryan.
The blue guy?
The pick dog?
Or the skin dog?
Yeah, both dogs.
830, 418.
Maybe he could be a good guy in Bakersfield.
Crazy idea.
All right.
Well, I think we still have
some of these to do.
True. And some bets.
We've got the super chat and some 365.
We'll do the super chat just because I played the horn.
Yeah, I kind of forgot about our bets.
Super chat for the use centers of Calgary.
A lot of people in watching the show, a lot of people taking part, and we appreciate it.
We'll get some money to the U-Sters of Calgary.
Daniel.
Hello from Helsinki.
Lafferty, Daniel.
Love the show.
Been watching since 23.
Saw some of you at Kippers Jersey night last year.
Nice.
Keep boomer booming, ret raging, pinder, pindering, and pike piking.
Hashtag mission McKenna.
God bless you, Daniel.
10 euros.
That's like 20 bucks.
I've been to Helsinki once.
I love your town.
What do you like about it?
Scenery.
Scenic.
Yes, great town.
The working man never gets old,
seeing McDavid on the Oilers bench looking like he's hating life.
That AI Pixar trailer was priceless.
Tommy was good on that AI.
They knew it was coming.
Like, I know we've talked about it.
And it seems like,
what was he doing?
Maybe he doesn't regret it.
It's just part of, but.
You were a month away from actually.
looking under the hood.
And the thing of it was, too,
I thought,
I was thinking about this last night.
So you,
if you're McDavid,
so you kind of waited all summer
to make them sweat
and to see what kind of moves
they were going to make.
And then you just signed anyway.
Well, what,
what did you make?
Oh, you really kind of held
their feet to the fire.
You know, you just waited the side.
We need some young guys.
Okay, we got Ikeh coward.
Is he any good?
I don't know, but he's young.
Give me the sheet.
And like, truly imagine.
if he was, if his contract was expiring and all of this was happening.
You know what you'd be saying right now, Dean?
I think God,
I didn't sign that contract before I watch his team play.
Whoops.
He's getting some bad advice.
Connor, if you want better, like get rid of your representation,
we'll help you.
We'll help the flames and will help you.
I know it seems weird.
It feels like it's a contract.
I don't think Jed Mulnover's idea was to go sign for 12 and a half.
That was, Connors.
Carter.
Carter.
you know what he's obviously a very nice guy
well I'll sign for another couple years and see
for a nice guy he seems pretty bleeping miserable
and I get it that guy wants to win it is burning him
that this has happened this way it's all of it
noodles is right it's hard to be emotional when you've gone to
the finals two years in row and lost and short off seasons
absolutely but they're horse piss right now
these guys who and you know what it's like when you've got to
it's got to be like when your pitchers
throwing a no hitter.
No one talked to McDavid right now.
No trainers,
no people, just stay away from him altogether.
Diggin.
What do you do it if you're the coach?
Trying to cover for your goaltending
and press conferences is what I've seen him doing.
Okay, yeah.
The coach can't go trade for a goalie.
That's the GM's job.
Just poking his head in the GM's office door every day.
What's Connor Ingram?
Is he playing? Where's he at?
Golly trade?
Go look.
No?
You got Saros?
See you tomorrow.
See you tomorrow.
All right.
What kind of blackmail does Adams have in the Pagulas to still be the GM there?
Could power be a piece to pry out of there for a fresh start?
Oh my God.
Like here's the thing.
Last year at this time, if you said, hey, do you think you could pry Dylan cousins on there?
You're like, no way.
He's cost controlled.
He's a young player.
He's a center.
You don't trade.
They did.
And they gave the second to Ottawa.
it's possible, Scott.
It is.
It shouldn't be, but it is, and you're right.
How did they do that?
Well, here's a center that gets hurt a lot.
Our guy's a little better.
We'll give you him and we'll give you a second rounder.
Yeah, fax it.
Let's go.
He's a gift.
I still, it reminds me of the Daffy Duck,
the Bugs Bunny cartoon,
when Daffy is standing with his handful of beans.
And I forget what the,
what the other person is walking away with.
But it's a bag of gold.
And he's got his handful of beans.
And he's like,
there goes a salesman.
It's like, yeah.
Yeah, you got raked over the coals.
They're Daffy Adams.
Uh,
oh, well.
Uh, big fat guy.
Big fat guy.
Big fat guy.
If miracles happen and they have a top pick,
who we grab him,
McKenna Verhoff or who?
Keep watching them.
Yeah. It's not who is best on November 20th draft.
Unlike Connor, we're going to take a little more time and see before we rush to judgment.
Unlike McDavid's signing before you. You can wait right till the draft before you decide who you're going to pick here.
It is kind of one of those things where and it's just how Paul the management can agree on it.
But sometimes it comes, you see too much of a kid.
It's like, well, is it, is he speed as good as we thought?
It was a shot as it is hard.
And I wonder if there is a bit of that with McKenna.
but you kind of couple that with the excitement all of a sudden
about Verhoff's like, boy, he's bigger than him stronger
and he's only just started getting better.
It'll be an interesting march towards it for sure.
Yeah, and it's interesting at Penn State.
They got him on the second line and they've got their three best forwards,
not named McKenna, all in the same line together, not with McKenna.
It's McKenna's kind of working with some scraps there.
Guy Goddowski's the head coach.
I don't know that that's how you want to,
you should probably put your skill players with McKenna.
We'll see how it goes.
He's like a point per game and everyone's like, oh, he sucks so much.
And he's like, oh, he's a very good player.
He'll figure it out.
Yeah.
The DeVerov kid is very intriguing because he's 17.
You're not supposed to be the best defenseman on Nodak a year before you're supposed to go to university.
That's what he's doing.
Wasn't that a winger song?
17?
Oh, she was 17.
Oops.
Kip, careful.
It'll sing about that.
Maybe keep that quiet there.
Okay.
The working man.
Maloney reminded me that the Izer plan is a success.
You were only going to talk positively about your Red Wings.
He is.
He says it's a success.
They're good this year.
That's tongue and cheat.
Well, yes and no.
They got screwed by the lottery balls a ton.
They finished dead last twice and picked fourth.
I know.
Hoie.
See, positive work to Matt.
Right.
All right.
Fair enough.
Fair enough.
Jack.
Are you a Flames fan or just a Pits?
I am a Pittsburgh Homer.
I am a Pittsburgh Homer.
That's correct.
But I am a Flames fan.
Some of the best moments of my life have been watching the Flames with my buddies.
Like what?
For sure.
The playoff games,
I remember during the COVID season when we couldn't hang out in people's houses.
We could set up a TV outside and watch games.
Something's changed, though.
It's,
and I don't want to take shots at any of the players or anything.
It's just,
it's not exciting hockey.
There's no one on the team that makes me,
want to turn the TV on and watch or go to the game and spend money.
McKenna might be that, eh?
You think next year?
Yeah, I hope.
I want to see change.
But yes, I'm a diehard flames fan.
Dean, who did that come in from?
Uh, just chilling.
That's just chilling.
Just chilling.
Just chilling.
Just chilling.
279.
Thanks.
I love my, I love my penguins.
Thanks, chili.
Chitty dog.
Penguins are doing the flames thing from last year.
They're going to fish nine from the east.
Shut up.
Wrigan man back in.
Love this fan base.
chat and this show
buzzing today.
Great show today, Dean.
The chat was buzzing today for sure.
Give us a like.
Port it to your friends.
Yeah, it's okay to like and subscribe and,
you know, support the show.
Tell people.
Yeah.
There's these three idiots and every day they come on
and find a way to fight about stuff.
It's amazing.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Nick Daw.
2799.
Files!
Jeez.
November 14th, 1057 a.m.
Welcome a healthy baby girl.
Mom and baby are in great spirits and health.
Should have went with the name Jaquez.
You sure you're saying that right?
Read a book or something, Jack.
Cheez.
Mission McKenna or bust, baby.
Congratulations.
Congrats on the baby girl.
Worry about things that are important.
Baby Joaquiz.
is, Rhett and I would be giving you all kinds of advice,
but Dean is the only father of a baby girl here.
Yeah, I can't.
Any advice, do you know?
Don't say no.
Just buckle up.
Early and often.
The more prepared you are,
um,
yeah,
I'm not going to talk about it.
But yeah,
there's always drama.
You're always going to,
and it will be drama.
You will never,
you'll never even think of it because you are probably a guy.
and if you've had boys or anything else,
it will all be left field.
Are we really stressed about this?
And trust me,
we're stressed about it.
Okay.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Brother.
Bollock Racing,
20 bucks. What a show.
Love a ranting boomer. I have no problem
spending the money and driving the two hours into town to watch a game.
Even it's a loss. As long as the kids are developing
and the guys are given her hell out there.
Amen, Bullock Racing.
that's right that's it that's the number one thing at the end of you have fans in the city
and in this area they get it they get it oh but we're not winning a bunch of hockey games but
if you're working towards it and you got young kids and you've been draft and there's a plan and
you're giving our hell dane and you're giving our hell out there people are with you people are
with you yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah we fill
This is what I love tuning in for.
Passionate hockey chat about our favorite team by people that care.
Keep it going, lads from Belfast.
Belfast, go Giants.
Theo played there.
Chad Allen played there.
That was today's show. A lot of other days, it's gravy talk.
Very little hockey chat, definitely not passionate.
Not about the flames at all.
A week from today, zero.
hockey chat. A lot of pun conversation
on the next Thursday show. Yeah. That's right.
Double rise, Dean. Double rise?
It's a double rise, Ryan. Okay.
I'm going to bring it a bartender.
Are you? Really? I like that idea.
Not the elf. We're saving in for the Christmas fun. Everybody's out of
the house. We're going to get a special market. Nice.
Terrific.
The 219 Y Y, Y, Y, C. Nothing matters. Nobody cares.
We're all going to die. Now, right, you know where that famous coat came from?
Yeah, that was the Logan,
coolly post game last night.
It was not last night. He said it when he was in San Jose, but it was retweeted again last night.
He was in San Jose, his only six NHL games before he got to Calgary, playing out the stretch,
and they were DFL in the NHL.
Nothing matters. Nobody cares. We're all going to die.
We're all going to die anyway. It's true.
Except for Rhett, because he's...
No, I watched the thing that you shouldn't care last night.
It was about being on the things that help.
helps with your brain and kind of psychedelics.
Yeah.
Yeah.
No, I meant you're never going to die.
Yeah.
No, it doesn't matter.
You're going to be in some cryogenic chamber.
No, but here's where you're wrong.
You've got dying is not the thing.
Like, it's, we're living in a simulation.
So yeah, you aren't going to die.
You're not going, I'm not going, nobody's dying.
There's other dimensions, Steve.
We'll live there.
It's so trippy, man.
No, you and Tom Brady are going to have your heads cut off and be
cloning yourselves.
No, no, you're going to get the,
you got to go watch the one.
It's a DeWalt laser,
and if you take the right amount of,
uh-huh.
I thought that was for hanging pictures on the wall.
Yeah,
I know,
that's the laser,
but then you can see the code in the laser,
and then if you put your hand up,
it's different code,
and then you can see,
it's,
I mean,
it's too deep for two idiots like you,
but Jack would understand.
Where are you buying those mushrooms?
I'm in.
I was going to say,
your highs,
I got a greenhouse,
Ryan.
Oh,
good fungus. Fun guy.
JP 113.99. Retro keeps saying
Tuxa hurt bag and Pinder agreed yesterday. He hasn't missed
the game in two years, hasn't played, has played
74, 75, 82 since
2022 and all this year.
Also, Pinder, it's Beckett, Seneca,
not Bennett. I keep saying Bennett, I'm sorry.
Our apologies, J.P.
Apologies around the horn.
Preshape the 13-9 and 9.
Yeah, I wasn't implicated, but I also will apologize.
And JP 11, if you want to come in every show,
we can do the Y-Bluitt segment that Jay-on-right does.
At the end of the show, you can come in, tell us all things you're wrong on,
and it'll be good for the kids, and we'll write the wrongs.
Because if there's one thing we're unfamiliar with,
certainly Rhett and I is working with someone who tells you how wrong you are.
That's right.
We can do some of that.
And how right they are.
Even if I am wrong, what the fuck difference does it make?
Yeah, we're all dying anyway, except we're not dying.
We're in a little dimension.
Got lasers.
The laser.
You're a frickin laser.
Come on, JP, keep up.
Brett's soapal injury from picking up a cracker.
I don't recall that one.
No soaps well, but I don't recall.
Play baseball with soaps.
What's he like?
Get them on the four hitters.
We're the three four hitters.
Really?
Yeah.
It's a nasty middle of the lineup, eh?
A lot of pop.
Oh, we can stack the ball around.
Yeah.
Nice.
Thanks for that one,
219.1.Y.C.
That's all.
Great day for the kids.
But I, I grabbed.
I grabbed this one. Now, this is a freebie, but I liked it.
You know, we talk a lot about when I've referenced, because I do.
Craig Conroy is the GM of this team.
Spent a lot of time traveling and putting time in as the AGM.
And I think he has a passion for it.
And I think he's good at it.
And I think he's the right guy to run this team.
And I do have con-efinance that he's going to do the right thing.
How is your donifidence?
My donifidence, I am leaking don't-efinance, certainly today.
more than maybe 24 hours ago.
So you're not wanting to throw like a street party and call it Maloney Fest?
Not today.
I don't want to be too much on the, but lacking a little bit in my Donnie finance today.
I like that one.
Just a little bit.
Appreciate you.
JP 11 right back in.
Oh, I honestly have thought of doing a, you blew it.
So I'm in.
Every Friday I'll have a list.
Go fuck off.
No, I like that.
I do not need some smart ass.
You know, it's the kids.
Or the kids, Dino.
Come on here.
You know, actually, it's Bennett, not Beckett.
I can't be chintzy BS.
I don't know.
Like, we're not giving me.
Yeah, you want to do the tuck stuff.
It's like, you know, you were talking about tux.
Andrew, all he's played 75 and 82.
So maybe a, we don't need.
Oh.
I'll take it for the kids.
Right.
Absolutely.
Absolutely.
Are you going to use a veto on this?
Boom.
Come on.
He's going to donate the money.
We're going to read it.
Maybe tell something we're right on to.
What are we right about?
We're right all the time.
Only.
Exclusively always right.
We'll see.
We'll see how it goes.
Bet 365.
Hey, get some bets in.
We got football.
We got hockey.
Game props.
Player props.
That's a you blew it segment for you and Pinder.
Yeah, that's coming up on tomorrow's show.
That's correct.
Our football picks is you blew it.
We already do that segment.
Totals the money line.
It's taken.
whatever your bet is, it's never ordinary.
Bet 365.
Speaking to some people around the Oilers,
they get into their hotels at 2.30 in the morning,
and the worst stats in the league by a goaltender
are held by the guy starting tonight
against the Tampa Bay Lightning team
that's good at scoring goals.
I'm going to take the Lightning minus one and a half
at plus 155.
That is a 537 mountain start.
Thank you, Dean.
And the bills, I think they're a good team,
but they do have a few things they need to brush up.
They can't stop the run.
rookie Woody Marks has been pretty good the last month or so.
You get 70 yards.
That's even money.
We'll see how that goes.
Also, I've got the bills.
It's at minus six now.
I got a minus five and a half a couple days ago, Red.
So I'm not picking against your bills.
Oh, that's great, right.
You're welcome.
Appreciate that.
Who do you have?
Even with a straight up money line?
Or are you taking, you're giving away those points too, right?
I gave the points.
Yeah.
Retro.
Yeah.
What do you do?
Yeah.
What do you think?
Yeah.
He's all right.
Did you eat yesterday finally?
Oh, yeah, I was eating the brisket.
Oh, that brisket's good.
I got into that finally.
It was goodness.
Bet 365, get the app.
Use the promo code nation when you sign up if you haven't already.
But just get it in the game.
And bet responsibly it would be 19 as well.
All that stuff.
Yeah.
So are you not here tomorrow?
I'll do the show tomorrow, I think.
Okay.
from beautiful Prince Albert.
Do you want me to go?
Wow, it's so cold.
I'd say I'd go walk around and show you the sights,
but I was going to say I'd love to see the hotel room,
the sites.
Remember when Dino just set up that lawn chair by the field?
You should do that in PA for us.
Just tomorrow, I'll send it to chair.
All right.
Perfect.
Dregs.
Oh, yeah.
We'll join us as well tomorrow.
It'll be a practice day for the flames who will be prepping for the
kind of that one home game
and a span of road games.
Dallas coming in Saturday.
Seven of eight on the road.
They're two in.
That's right.
That's right.
Five game roadie starts Sunday.
Jack.
Yeah.
How was the show today?
And I kind of,
I'm asking kind of sincerely because it was.
Yeah.
It was a great show.
Lots of passion.
The chat was good and engaged.
I think you guys said a lot of what they're thinking.
Best show we've done in a month.
Jack.
Yeah.
I would,
I put this up there for sure.
Were we over,
like,
because we kind of get each other going and then,
you were on a teeter.
We didn't need to poke you at all today.
I was going to say,
boom,
let's say some nice things that we can clip
because you're a little,
give us something nice to end.
Okay.
Like just in general?
Just something about the flames.
Just one thing.
I've got one.
You got one,
right?
I,
you know what?
I'm happy for Joel Farabee
that he got a couple. I think he's had in what's been a tough start to the season for the team.
I think you can see that there's more there than what we've seen from him as a flame.
I think last year was maybe a little discouraging for him when he got here.
The goals did not come.
He's starting to fire the net.
Good job.
And around it.
There'll be finally getting rewarded.
Go ahead, right?
I had friends and fans in the stands last night that were, it's kind of a good, bad thing.
They don't like the white flames, juries.
They were very hopeful to see the red jerseys for some reason.
And so just shout out to the red jersey, Flames jerseys.
That was going to be mine.
I was going to say the red jerseys.
Okay.
Hey, Flames.
You've had two really good drafts in a row and have compiled quite a cupboard of good young players
that will be emerging in the NHL over the next two to three years.
Keep drafting well.
Good work.
Good stuff.
I think Mark DePosqually.
and Benny and the guys are doing a hell of a job with keeping the skates sharp
and the sticks.
If somebody breaks a stick,
they're always right there.
Not one ready.
Not even some guys are a thankless job.
They're the first ones at the rank.
They're the last to leave.
They're there all day.
But they are dedicated,
dedicated guys.
Hey,
Trent Cole.
You're a handsome man when you get that mustache,
Fumanchu, old Western thing going.
Rugged.
There's a compliment.
Hey,
You know what? Good job on the
goaltender interference call last night.
Got a goal taken off the board.
Well done, Jamie Pringle.
Yeah.
Guys are working hard in there.
Hey, PowerPlay, you're starting to score on PowerPlay.
Good work, guys.
Still really good layered buttered popcorn down at the don't.
It is so good.
The ice cream is good.
The popcorn is good.
I love the pocket dogs.
So many great reasons to go to a Flames game.
I haven't been to the renovated Dutton's yet,
but I've always loved Duttons.
I can't wait to get there.
I said it the other day.
The best sweets in professional sports.
In the league?
In all the leagues?
Like candy and licorice sweets?
Yeah, those two.
Well, they could get them in the sweets.
Oh, for your viewing pleasure.
The best sweets.
The sweets are you.
Yes, you.
Yeah.
Nice.
God, we're positive, eh?
Yeah.
Thanks, Jack.
Thank you, Jack.
All right.
See you, buddies.
Thank you.
