Wheels up and roll.
And hello we doing everybody.
Welcome to Barnburner.
It is a Wednesday, the 7th of February,
in this 20, 24 year of our Lord.
Amen.
Our Lord.
Jesus.
Mika.
Our Lord.
2024.
Our Lord Mika.
Jesus Murphy.
Bonjour.
Come, sova.
Mm-hmm.
We, uh, we, uh, we're not.
Very bien.
Very bien, monsieur.
Jamie McClanen.
We are expected to be joined by him in a matter of moments.
He is one of our insiders,
which really doesn't serve him justice.
He's not so much an insider.
He's just, he's one of the boys.
He's a fellow.
He's a good boy.
So he'll come and join us in a little bit.
We will have the Pinder report.
Busy night in the National Hockey League last night.
And I wonder if we'll talk about any of it,
admit the nut shots and falling off.
skateboards.
I got something that I think might make you vomit.
We got some cool stats and people comparing athletes to murderers.
He's kind of nauseous look to himself today.
Let's go for it.
Let's make this happen.
He was housing Dill Picklewings at Grey Eagle last night in great shape,
ready for a deep sleep.
I do wonder how much sleep he got.
Oh, plenty.
Good.
Plenty.
All right.
What is plenty?
What are you shooting for?
Well, what are humans or what am I shooting for?
Well, both, I guess.
I feel if you can get, if you can get six,
I feel like six is, you're in good shape.
I don't think you're optimizing your health with six hours, Dean.
No, but that you can work on six.
Six is not like, I'm just saying like that's,
you're a zombie.
If you're getting less than six, you're going to have maybe a hard day,
but you can probably, you can feel like, okay, I can,
I can do this with six.
You'd love a little, maybe a smidge more, right?
But these people, oh, you got to get eight to ten hours a night.
What are we talking about?
Who's getting eight to ten hours a night?
What was it?
Who was the pitcher for the Yankee, for the Blue Jays?
11 or 12, 14?
And that donkey need like 14 hours sleep?
Oh, is it Kikuchi, our boy?
No, no, the pitcher.
Oh, Hingeon Ryu.
Wasn't it him that went and talked about the pitcher?
I thought it was Kikuchi, the pitcher.
I think it's Kikuchi.
Oh, well, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, it was Kakucci.
You needed, what, 14 hours?
I just wasn't myself.
I think he was joking, but yes.
I didn't get my 16 hours sleep last night.
Yeah, well, you stink.
How about the Calgary Flames?
We get into it with McLeod Law.
It's time for the opening statements.
Bang the gavel, let's get to it.
McLeod Law, their community,
their Calgary, and they are the very best.
Whatever your challenge is, whether it's business,
whether it's personal,
if there's the legal side of things that has come up and you have to deal with it,
then there's no one better than McLeod Law.
You just get a hold of it.
Where do we send you?
What is the area of expertise that you need because we have the very best in the business
with whatever it is you need and you will be in the very best hands?
Can't say enough about the good people over at McLeod Law.
Opening statements retro.
I don't know if we were expecting a 4-1 decisive win in Boston, but that's what we got last.
I was.
I just thought it would be the brum.
The hell happened out there.
Do they switch jerseys, Dean?
Listen, you dopes?
I've been telling you,
Flames are going to make all these moves
and they're going on to run to the playoffs.
I'm not mentioned to this.
They're going to accomplish.
They're going to make moves and make the playoffs.
No, when you say all these moves,
are there more or are they done?
There's more to come.
Okay.
Armstrong's not going anywhere because he's the backbone.
You got the goaltender.
You can do anything.
We got kids, Zari, Kuzmankov, they got guys that can play.
Are we talking home ice?
Like, just keep on rolling.
No, no, they're going to be the underdogs.
They're going to ride that, you know, that underdog.
No, everybody counted us out and nobody gave us a chance.
And order was saying we were losers that weren't trying.
We love each other.
We'll do anything for each other.
We're going to do it.
Guys in this room love each other.
The room is so tight.
Yeah.
Guys just playing for each other.
Got rid of all the shitheads.
We traded all the shitheads out of here.
Damn it, I'm swearing again.
Sorry.
It's all right.
It's all right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
For one, it took about five minutes for Huberto and Kuzmanko to show a little less.
Flash.
Honestly.
Flash.
Less than five minutes.
You're like, that looks like a different player.
Zink tape.
Zonk net.
And that was the second good chance they had in their opening two shifts.
Now, remember, Ron,
Ryan kind of came at you, Red, when you suggested maybe this is a guy that can play with Huberdo and unlock him a little bit.
Maybe this can get Huberto going and Ryan, you know, I don't want to use the language, but he kind of poo poohed it.
He called me an effing idiot, I think.
Yeah, I don't recall that part.
It was harsh.
We've been waiting for 150 games for somebody to unlock Huberto and God bless this man, Kuzmanko, if he can do it.
Give him the keys to the city because it's just been, we've been waiting for anyone in a forward group to unlock this guy.
It's a little better of late, but that he looked dynamic last night, dare I say.
Dynamic.
And it was going to both.
And scored?
Are you kidding me?
Yeah, because even Kuzmiko was making the plays back to Hubertoe at certain parts.
Yeah, we kind of doubt that it was the turning point of the game last night into the third period.
Bruins get a goal.
They got all this power play time.
Oh, too many men.
30 seconds later, Hubert O scores.
Two goal lead is restored.
Here it is here.
I'm just going to take this right off the wall.
And Zing.
Roo. Charlie McAvoy, I'm going to take the puck from you, and I'm not even looking to pass.
I'm just going to rifle it.
Huh?
Who is this?
The only one more surprised that that went in than Swayman was Hubertoe.
It's like, holy shit.
Did you guys see that?
Whoa.
I got it.
I just, I was like, whoa, it's in.
We have one game and it was great.
And that was wonderful to watch.
They looked inspired.
Yeah.
Is there anything to be said, though, for not playing with a guy that?
wants to leave?
Yeah, I still think it's a little strong.
I don't know that we can place ourselves between Elias Lindelm's ears and say he was
definitely thinking this.
It was a tough year.
What it is,
not working,
but he just knew it wasn't going to be here next year, right?
You have the strong opinions on things,
and then he's drawn lines on certain.
Well,
there's just certain things we know on other things we guess at.
And if you're telling me,
you know exactly what Elias Lindom's thinking,
okay,
I just,
I'm not quite there.
Well, he kind of fucking told us, didn't he?
Sorry for the swearing again.
He said he never asked to leave.
That's what he said in his press.
So on his word into public media,
no, I'm just saying, like it's,
I don't think you're wrong.
It's just, you know, I don't think he pulled shoot on this team.
I think people have kind of take runs at his character.
I still think he's a really good player.
And I think he worked hard for the flames.
He wasn't pulled with the right pieces this year.
Dents today when you talk that way.
Listen, you don't have to pull shoot.
It's the NHL.
If you're 15% uninspired to be your best,
You're not good anymore.
And he clearly, sure, I'm not in his brain.
He didn't want to be here.
Could have signed a contract at any point over the lot,
or whenever they're allowed to.
Yeah, they didn't agree on what he was worse.
That's clear.
He was looking at his chops to get out of here.
He wasn't playing inspired.
He wasn't giving you 110%.
There's no way.
Don't give me that crap.
I'll say this.
I'll say this.
You go back to last year even.
Wasn't a good year last?
There was no chemistry between these two.
And I was harping at it for a while.
So if you're going to, this team wants to win,
you got to find a way for Lindholm and Huberto find some chemistry.
You got to play these guys together.
And it was just, it got to the point, okay, I take it back.
Can I take it back?
Fuck, there's nothing there for these two.
There is nothing.
They either, they're clearly not in the same wavelength or one really doesn't want to
play with the other.
And I think it would be on the Lindholm side.
And to your point, Red, I go back a couple years.
He had two of the, he was on the best line in hockey.
Crazy.
And then both of those guys leave.
And then he's put with Huberto.
So whether it's pouting or lack of chemistry or both or whatever it is.
It doesn't have to be.
Yeah.
It doesn't have to be pouting.
It's just you're going to the rank and your two buddies that you've played with and
kicked ass with are gone.
And you're going, this is less fun.
I'm not enjoying this as much.
Right?
It's fine.
it's fine, but I'm still right.
There you go, people.
And the other part of it is too, if they want to, even if it's not going to be,
this is not Curry Gretzky, Adam Oates, Brett Hall, all right.
But if these two want to find a way to play together,
and I don't know that Sherry Govich is going to be the guy in the middle,
but what it allows you to do is to keep cadre with his line mates and to keep the back
and line together.
That was important.
That's why it made sense.
If those two, if you guys will, we'll maybe mix some guys in,
depending on what's going on at the center spot.
But if there's something there on any given night or every,
every other game,
you guys can show some,
some sparks and it allows us to keep the rest of the top nine intact.
And look,
it's,
I joked about it being the all gas,
no brakes.
It's not the no gas,
no breaks.
Like these guys all are elite offensive playmakers.
Those are guys that they get the puck around the net.
They can do things that most players in the league can't.
You saw that side of it last night.
That's an exciting trio to watch play hockey in the offensive.
zone zipping it around finding each other two of the three can absolutely rifle the puck

We're pulling him away from the Baccarat table.
He's our buddy, J.B. McLennan, noodles. How are we doing?
Not too bad. How are you guys doing today? Can you hear me?
Oh, yeah, you're good. I've got a connection. Okay.
Yeah, very nice.
Good. I was listening to you yell and scream about, you know, some speed and skill.
And I think there's some, I can pick up on some excitement about this night.
I know.
Is this rare for the podcast the last couple months?
They scored two power play goals, Nuddles.
I think the last time that happened, you were on the team.
It's been really rough on the power play.
Oh, I think maybe your signal is shit.
No, it's, Rhett just said before you came on, playoffs.
They're going to make a bunch of trades.
They're going to get assets for these old guys that don't give a crap anymore.
And it's going to be the best of both worlds.
You rebuild, you retool, and you make the playoffs.
That's a fair assessment.
I mean, you look at the players that they're bringing in.
They're, you know, kind of hit the ground.
running and Khrumenko's I mean he's a shooter right so you it's exciting I don't know where you're
at with Huberto I mean he looked like he was lively last night it looked like he was having some
fun and you know cadry was great like I you know you get saves and I know it's it's one game and
you beat Boston but it's something to build on you start a road trip here it looks pretty good it
sounded pretty good like for me watching it I I was happy for the group because you know this could
have gone ugly it could have started you know Boston could have hit the ground running
and it could have woodshed them, but that wasn't the case.
So it could be.
You know what?
Playoffs would be a good thing.
Now, I'll pose the question back to you, though.
You don't lose the focus if you're Craig Conroy.
You're still moving out assets, correct?
The only guy you're hanging on to that we've discussed,
but I still think is a long shot to move anyway,
would be Markstrom.
He's going to keep.
you're getting into playoffs.
You can keep them.
Tanev can be replaced.
Hanif is going to be a tough replacement,
but he can go.
And the boys are going to rally.
They're rallying around March.
So you're moving Han to Finrad.
That's the firm word there.
Oh, yeah.
Got to.
Can't walk him to free agency.
And I'm not going to overpay him.
Yeah.
I mean, you need players.
That's the only guy that I would hold on to.
Like I, I, I don't know why.
Here's the question.
This is the thing.
I stop there because it's not up to, it's up to him.
Right?
He's got a contract.
It's out there.
He can probably try to squeeze more from Connie, blah, blah, blah.
I am not against.
in Hannafin because of his age and ability.
But if he's like Lindholm and wants out, that's fine.
That's part of the retool.
Let's go.
Yeah, I get that.
And you can get probably a pretty good clip for him if you trade him to a team that wants
to extend him.
But again, you know, what is the marketplace?
I mean, you know, you see Lindholm score last night, happy for him.
You know, I look at guys Kuzmenko score.
so you're happy guys that changed dressing rooms that they're trying to settle in.
You know, replacing Hannafin, I think, is interesting because who are you replacing with?
Maybe a younger Hannafin, like a 23-year-old Hannafin?
Like, I don't know if there's any of those out there.
Like, that's the only guy that I would potentially be looking at.
Again, overpay is the question because are you going to give them $7 million times eight?
That's a lot of cash.
Didn't get it done before.
He turned down more than that.
I think the market place has changed on him, though.
I don't know.
Maybe I'm wrong.
But I think, you know, is the, I know Lindholm scores two goals, but is there anybody that's
giving him $9.5 million on the free market this summer?
No, but he's not having a career year.
Hanofin is.
Like, that's the difference.
Lindholm was having a bad year and he still got you in that hall.
Hanifin turned down 60 and is going to set career highs and goals this year and playing
huge minutes.
So somebody's going to overpay.
I mean, you know, I just had to do a sports center hit talking about William Neelander has one goal in the 13 games he's played since.
Classic.
Since cashing in 11 and a half sheets.
Well, that contract kicks in next year.
Don't even worry.
He's only making 6.9 this year noodles.
Exactly.
So he's still a bargain right now.
But it's, you know, that is the question when you're managing money is, again, Hannafin, I think is interesting.
You know, TANF, we all know and love, it's just, I think it's term.
with him because of the body. He's a Ferrari with 300,000 kilometers on it, you know, in my opinion.
So there, that's what, what it is for, for TANF. But I, I look at it with Hanifin. He's kind of in that
mid range where even if you're in a retool, reset, he might be a guy that you could overpay to keep
him if he wants to, um, and, and settle in with a new group. And I, that's top business for,
for Craig Conroy right now. He knows that there'll be a market for TANF. It's a matter of, it's a matter of
When do you know that you've gotten your best offer for Tanev?
Because I do think that that's a trade that you make.
And yeah, for Hannafin.
If Hannafin wants to re-engage, then is it still 60?
Is it more?
Is it less?
I don't know.
Because you could argue that Hannafin could play eight years here.
And you're going to be happy with most of those eight years.
Well, he's gates, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's just, you know, I don't know.
Seven is, seven and a half is rich.
Like you're looking at, I mean, Kail McCar makes 9.1, 2593.
Like you're, and I know KL signed a couple of years ago, but it's just, I find it tough.
And then you can point to the guy up north and say, well, Darnell Nurse makes 9.25.
He's not good.
A guy in Chicago, too, doesn't it?
No, the guy in Chicago, yeah.
The cops you want aren't the guys that are wildly overpaid.
It's, to your point, it's McCar making way under market value to stay there.
It's his defensive partner, Devon Taves, making seven and a quarter.
who's a better player than Noah Hannafin.
Like to me, would you over?
Sorry, I'm going to interrupt you a little bit.
Like you say that he is, but I'll tell you what,
Hanifin has played pretty flipping good this year.
Agreed.
I think he's a really good player.
I think Taves is better.
That's all.
And I think Taves is doing the whole, we're Colorado.
We're in a window to win a cup.
McKinnon took less.
McCarr took less.
theoretically, Rantan and Landiscaug took less.
He's going to take less because that's what everyone's doing there.
And they've got a culture of winning.
So you don't get to offer that to Noah Hanofin.
You're not in a three, four-year window where you could hang multiple banners.
I get it.
I just think Taves is undisputably a better player.
Yep.
I don't disagree with that.
I mean, you look at it.
It's just, but Hannafin doesn't, you know, to Rett's point, he doesn't, like, it's not like he's an ankle skater.
He's a really good player.
He's a top pairing guy.
So he deserves the respect.
It's just, what is the marketplace?
I think it's a tricky one for me.
If you're Connie, you've got to weigh out what people are offering and then decide, is he replaceable by
drafting and developing or finding a young guy from a different organization that is in win now mode
type of thing. And the thing with Taves, you know, I said two years ago, year and a half that he signed
that extension. I think that's a part of it. I'm going to take less than I would have if I'd have
gone to UFA. It's a very good deal and there are some. It feels like the number, Thomas Shabbat is
26, same age as Hannafin. He's making $8 million a year. Aaron Eckblad is a year older. He's seven and a
half. Jake Sanderson just signed for 805. Owen Power 835. All those guys do something. Noah doesn't.
Circachev is 8.5 million. Truba's 8 million. They're not all direct comps, but they're guys who
have signed in the last couple of years and are in that sort of age group. So I get why Noah
Haniford would say, if I'm seven and a half, I'm, I'm in that ballpark. I'm maybe not as elite as some
of those guys, but seven and a half's fair for me.
So he doesn't want to get.
Everyone else who talks about runs a power play.
It's the only difference, do you know?
Like, you can't give him power play money if he doesn't run a power play.
You can't.
Okay.
So half a million a year?
No, way more than that.
Seven and a half?
A year.
Like,
power play is a huge piece.
So you think Noah Haddiffon should be a five and a half million dollar player because
you don't know the power player.
And I'm saying all those guys are on PowerPlay one.
Maybe Sir Getschev PowerPlay 2.
Everyone else is Power Play 1.
He isn't.
He's been here the whole time, and we're on Power Play 1, we say, why is he there?
It doesn't fit.
He's not those guys.
So you're saying six.
You're saying, you're comping them to.
You're saying it's a $2 million hit per year.
I'm just saying, if he's saying it's seven and a half, he's probably not crazy.
Retro, you're muted.
I'm curious what Pinder is saying then.
What is he worth?
What's he going to get?
Well, I think this summary gets seven.
Yeah.
So, I mean, I just, to me, he is.
a really good two three on a contending team.
A lot of those guys you mentioned
his feelings are once.
He's getting seven?
Yeah, what do you think he gets?
Honestly, I think he's in that seven and a half.
As a UFC, as a 26-year-old skating defenseman,
teams don't have to give up anything other than salary to get him.
He's north of seven.
26.
On all teams in the playoffs,
they have a better defenseman than I might suggest, pretty much,
across the league.
Everyone's got a better demeanor.
I just think the goal pole, you're moving.
The goalposts are moving on average salaries.
The cap's going up.
We talk about this whole thing.
Here it feels like a lot because the guy's been what he is and we know what he isn't.
And he's been a $5 million guy.
I don't think it's outrageous to say seven and a half.
But again, that said, I don't know if I would want to resign him either because you have,
if Schillington's back in the fold and you can count on him and I think every day that moves,
you hope that you're closer to feeling like you have him.
You've got Weeger.
You've got Anderson.
do you want to be two years down the road and think, man,
we felt kind of pressure that we had to keep Hanifan.
And that's 7.5, 7.6, 7.4, whatever it ends up being.
And now there's another crop of young defensemen out there.
Maybe it's one of the guys they just traded for.
You'd hate to feel like you're backed into a corner
and pay money when you're really not backed into a corner.
Does that make sense?
Yeah, it's a good point too, because if you're drafting and developing
or in a retool, you need a path.
way for somebody to play in the top four, in the top two type of thing. And if you're saying that
Weger, Anderson, now, what is Schillington in your guys' opinion? Is he a four at best for me?
He hasn't played a ton. I think he's a four or five at this point. Yeah. And, you know, again,
God love him and I hope he's great, but, you know, he's got a long road back. Like, that's really the
truth. So I forget, like, Weiger and Anderson, those guys run power plays. Those guys, you know,
chew up minutes. You need a left shot guy in there. I just, you're right. Like, the overpay
can't be for Hannafin if you can have somebody, if you have somebody that's pushing through,
or you're going to draft somebody that have pushed through. I'd like to see, you know,
it just, it's a, it's a spicy meatball because if you get into having those three locked in on term,
Now, what's Uighur's on term?
What's Anderson's deal?
Two years left.
And whatever you pay Hannafin, he's getting quite a bit more
because he's a better player and he's, I believe,
similar age or younger.
He runs a power play.
Yeah.
So you've got to, you have to have a pathway for,
like almost the hierarchy of who's going to be your top guy,
who's one, two, three.
Realistically, is Hannafin right now the one on the team
or is he three behind Wiger and Anderson?
He's two, three.
you could put him in Weger interchangeably, but he's obviously younger than Weiger.
I think all three of them, I just think that when you look at good teams,
you've got to have a few guys that can play good.
I don't know what Shillington is, to your point, noodles.
If he puts up points, he elevates to a two, three, I think.
I don't think he's a number one because he's not going to be good against other
teams top guys ever, right?
And I don't think he's quite good enough to be so super offensive that he just controls
the shift that way.
but I listen, I think we're saying the same thing.
You don't want a crazy overpay, but I don't know what an overpay is.
And if you're talking about the difference between seven and seven and a half,
it all depends on what the return value is for Noah Hanifin right now as far as the trade.
That's the deciding factor, right?
If you're going to get a king's ransom, sure, you move them.
If he wants to decide and you pay him seven and a half, which sounds real,
expensive, but everyone always tells me the cap continues to go up.
So if you're signing an eight to a half, eight years really going to be
handicapping your team, I don't think so.
Over the next three or four years, if he's making seven and a half,
are you going to be so budget, whatever locked up that you can't make things happen?
I don't think so.
And in three years, when he's 29 or 30, you tell me you can't.
can't trade them then?
Yeah, no, I agree.
Like I think the biggest thing, too, is you mentioned Thomas Shabbat.
So I do a lot of Ottawa games.
Ottawa's got a lot of good players, but the pieces aren't fitting, if that makes sense.
Like I...
Same in Calgary.
So that's, I guess that would, I'm coming back to it.
You've got good players, but the pieces have to fit in the puzzle moving forward.
If Hanifin is a part of that puzzle, then, you know,
you overpay him a little bit to keep him in there,
or we're calling it overpay,
but you keep him in there where he can be a top three
and you move forward with the three or four guys that you have.
But the puzzle has to fit,
and do you believe in Noah Hannafin on the left side
playing your top pairing situation?
Because I'm looking at Ottawa,
and they've got a bunch of left shot defensemen,
and they're struggling on the right side, right?
So you've got Zub, you've got Hamannock,
and they've got this kid, Jacob and Arnard Docker.
But on the left side, they've got Shabbat, Sanderson.
I think Sanderson is going to be the best of the lot.
He's a superstar, in my opinion.
And then they've got Eric Branchstrom.
They've got a kid named Tyler Cleven.
They've got Jacob Chikrin.
Like you've got all these guys, but you've got to see how it fits.
So I guess the challenge would be for Connie, how is this all going to look?
Like, what's this going to look like at the deadline this summer, 18 months from now?
If Hannafin's part of that plan, then you make it work financially.
and go, we'll bite the bullet, we'll give him seven and a half,
because we believe he's part of the plan for the next five or six years.
If he's not, you move away from him simply.
And so the cautionary tail, like I think you get a good haul from.
I looked at two guys that went for a first and two seconds,
and they sort of tie-ins to what we saw last night.
You saw Hempus Lentholm playing last night,
top four for Boston.
He was a UFA two years ago traded the Boston at the deadline.
They immediately extend him somewhere in the sixth range.
Six and a half.
And you know the flames would love to use him as a comp.
And less than the money, more of the return.
They get a couple roster players, John Moore, Vacchanin,
and guys that help balance the money,
they get a first and two seconds.
They're like, wow, that's a nice haul.
Yeah.
But the first is Nathan Goschay.
I don't know if he's ever going to be a player.
It was 22nd overall pick or whatever.
And you're like, oh, well, that felt like a hall,
but does Anheim really have anything to show for it?
And then the flip side of you, Travis Hammannick,
who also went for a first to two seconds.
He went from the Islanders of the flames.
And they use that first round pick to pick Noah Dobson, who's going to get Norris votes this year.
So to me, like, even when you're like, what's the return to make it worth it?
There's just a lot of risk in taking a pile of assets and picks versus you know what Hanifin is.
And I think that's why this is a bit more of a quandary than it potentially should be.
And beyond that, to your point, it's what are you getting for the assets?
But also, now you need to replace those minutes.
You're not going to play a man short.
So now, okay, we're saving the $5 million that we've been paying and the,
seven and a half conceivably that we were prepared to pay. Are we going to the free agent route?
Who's going to come to Calgary? Who's going to be a good fit for us? We know what Noah Hanifan is.
Noah Hanofin is a very likable guy, guys like him in the room. He's the devil you know all of that.
You know what his faults and his strengths are. I don't know. There's you talk about the Calgary
tax. Well, maybe you got to pay a little more for guys to play in Canada, that whole thing.
are you
not just in a spot
where you're probably spending
that money again anyway
and like yeah
maybe you've got some draft picks
but what are you on the ice
and to your point if you're not sure
about Shillington
and you've got two guys
because remember you got nothing back
for Zedorov in terms of a warm body
right
and there's not a lot waiting
to barge through that door
on the defense side
and you're with the wranglers
and to Renev's going to go
so my only
the thing I'd say
of that. Sorry, Nuddles, we're totally stealing your time here.
No, not at all. If you want to
bottom out a little more than you have
this year for two or three years, you
can, over those two or three years, find a way
to get a second pair of defensemen you really like
and probably have them under team
control and not have to pay UFA prices
for them. But you have to be okay with
maybe being a little worse next year and the year after,
which I think is a great long-term plan
to have higher picks the next
two, three years heading into a new building.
If you're obsessed of trying to make the
playoffs next year, I totally get
hang up because you are going to be worse next year without
Hannafin. I just argue in three years you're probably
better if you don't have Hannafin there.
You're playing a five or a six
as a number four and you're picking
higher. Like it's, you're definitely going to be worse
next year. I just wondering three
if you wouldn't say, geez,
I wish we had that top four pick instead
of picking 11.
That's fair. I mean, it's true.
You look at how you've laid it out.
It looks, that's why
it's such a conundrum because it's
that's the,
it's a fine line
and it just, I also think too,
what Connie's going to get back from other players
because that might decide
if you get somebody,
I don't know, if you end up trading,
let's get crazy and trade Markstrom,
you might get a young defenseman back in that trade, right?
That'll make your decision up
for what they're
you've got a lot of need.
Yeah.
Hard reboot.
Nuddles, reconnect.
Reconnect.
The video poker machines downstairs
are taking up a lot of the bad with.
It's still the whole thing,
and I just, I'm sure Conroy's had the conversation,
but to me it's like, Noah,
because we're tight, so I call them Noah.
Right.
Decide.
But today, I need to know what, if you're coming back.
We're in Boston.
Your folks are here.
Yeah.
Are you staying in Boston?
Are you coming with us?
Yeah.
Make a decision.
Because I want time to work on this.
I don't want March 6th to come around.
And I call your agent and he goes, you know what?
We're good.
If you're staying, here's the contract.
Get it over with.
If you're not, give me some time to get this deal worked out.
And to No, to No, to No, to No, the checkers thing instead of chess.
No.
What do you want to play?
Chess, not checkers.
The chess thing instead of checkers so that I can see all the moves I can make to fill holes if I want, if he leaves.
Following that, James?
You got all that?
That's a lot of them.
There's lots of checkers and chess.
I ended up, I've got the Wi-Fi hooked up here.
We're really good.
Clean, clean.
I've heard, I heard of Rhett talking, trying to get something out about checkers and chess.
I'm not sure.
Well, you're not sitting too close to the Wi-Fi, are you?
Because, Rhett, that always freaked him.
out. If we were on location, he's like, I can't
the brainwarns, a metal
plate in his head. I'm not worried
about it. There's no saving me, guys.
It's all good. I'm not worried about that
stuff. So anyways, but I
think it's really interesting. Like, Connie's
got, would you
would you say it's dealing from a position of
strength, really, on certain things where
you're like, you've got, your team
is still not dropped off. You're chipping
away. It's a big win last night.
But you've got a wealth of assets
to retool, rebuild,
on the fly where young guys are pushing through.
It's nice.
You know, I want to see what Wolf can do.
I want to see, you know, I think the elephant in the room is Vlodar.
Like, you know, is probably, you know,
you can do something with him to get an asset back if Markstrom's your guy for the next two years.
And like I said, if people are getting crazy right now,
because you're looking at the parody throughout the league.
Like New Jersey wins last night, beats Colorado.
Like if they can get a save,
consistently, maybe they're a team that can make some noise.
So if I'm Tom Fitzgerald, I'm calling Connie off the hook and saying, would Marky come here?
Now, again, Markey controls that.
But it's just, it's stuff like that where if I'm L.A., I mean, the coaching change, Jim Hiller,
I don't know if he's the new Daryl Sutter going to take them to the finals and try and win,
but it's, you know, they need saves there.
They need something.
Something's missing on that team that they've been struggling with.
So there's lots of question marks through the league.
and I think Connie sitting back
can just field a bunch of offers
and make his team better.
He's got a lot of assets people want.
That's for sure.
Exactly.
You mentioned the devils.
The flames are going to see them right away.
They're out east.
Also the New York Rangers,
what's going on with Schisturkin out there?
His save percentage is now under 900.
He's not had a good year.
They're talking about Jonathan Quick,
being the guy moving forward here.
What's going on?
I mean,
Shasturkin hasn't looked right all season.
He's had pockets of inconsistent play.
You're right.
I think Jonathan Quick was first off the ice yesterday playing again tonight,
which I thought was a bit weird.
Some guys come off that All-Star game and they're like,
okay, you know, I need that first game back off type of thing.
But for him not to play the second game back,
that's a little bit telling of where, you know,
Lavie-Lette's head is at,
where, you know, you're looking at the bigger picture, where are they at with him?
So I would say in watching him, there's a lot of holes in his game.
He's such, he's got great feed, he's got good hands, great ability.
But the biggest challenge is, there's so many pucks going through him, where I, where the year that I,
I would argue that he should have been up for the heart that year.
He was that good.
So good.
There was just nothing.
You just couldn't beat him.
And like this year.
there's holes going through them where you're like,
okay, that's a stoppable puck, that's a stoppable puck.
And I think it's wearing on his confidence.
This is why I'm so on camp trademarkstrom,
because it's like you could have done it,
take any goalie in the world draft this summer,
and where does Shisterkin go?
Like one, two or three, that's it.
Yeah, Schisturkin in the month of January.
He's led in six, he's led in five,
and three times he's led in four.
And his safe percentage is now under nine.
I would, again, that was Markstrom a year ago.
I was like, what the hell are we watching here?
Exactly.
This guy was up, this guy was getting Vesna votes,
and now he can't get in front of it.
It's, where's your guarantee that Markstrom's going to be good next year or even the year after?
Like, to me, this is the ultimate Selheim moment.
As much as you'd love to have a mentor wolf, he's not going to be worth more than this ever, is he?
Well, here, here, there's two arguments to that, and I want to lay them both out.
The Rangers have very high expectations.
So for me, there's different, like, where we're just talking.
talking about the flames with a retool, making the playoffs,
making it, you know, it's a good, it's a feel good story.
So I look at it, it's different, like Markstrom's role is different in a retool
as opposed to a team that has not copper, copper bust aspirations,
but they're expected to be near the top of the league, the Rangers.
So I always come back to skill level.
Like I would much rather have a Schasturkin skill than, you know, name me a goalie.
like it has. Cam Talbot. Yeah, Cam Talbot, exactly. He's had good numbers, but then, like, Cam Talbot's played in the All-Star game, but who would you, who would you rather have from a skill standpoint? So that's where I, I, Markstrom is elite skill. So are they going to be off seasons? Absolutely. But again, I come back to your argument, Pender. If they're not, like, if they're not trying to win the cup this year, then why are you, you know, maybe you're, he's going to mask some of the stuff. But if they miss the playoffs, what he's going to.
do is make them miss by four points and then their pick is their pick stinks you know but then
you know if if if he helps get them in the playoffs then it's money for the owner it helps those
players grow and get experience so there's arguments to both sides i it's the argument too that
vegas won with aden hill well i watch aden hale stand on his head last night god was he good
god was he good like and and you know if you look at the analytics act eviton had 19 high danger
chances last night. Like they, and you know, people are asking me as Vegas,
Ebbenton's krypton's krypton. No, it was Hill last night. Like Ebbinton, I thought,
was the better team and they had better chances. So I come back to it. Like, for me,
goaltending is still everything. You only notice it when you don't have it. Like, that's
really, if you're a good goaltending, people are like, I don't care what that guy does back
there. Like, just go and stop the puck. I've said this before, noodles for, for years on
the media side. We didn't talk about goaltending once. It was never, who's starting
tonight. You had Kiprasoff. You never thought about
goaltending for a minute. And then he left. It's like,
Jesus is, well,
Harry Ramo or what the, what the fuck? It's, yeah, it's money in the bank.
Like, these guys are money in the bank. Like,
Hellebuck, the story with guys who are that elite,
it's a story when they're not playing that night. It's like,
oh, he gets a night off. You know, Larry Bresua is going to play
tonight or Jamie McClennan, you know, like guys like that.
You're like, man, that's, you know, the team's
in one tonight, although Brasois is a really good goalie. But like, I love Larry. Lorraine,
I just call him Larry. I don't know why. That's perfect. He's become such a good goalie, too.
Like, I've watched his career. He's so good. Like, that goaltending tandem in Winnipeg is awesome.
So anyways, going back to it, like, goaltending is a focal point when you don't have it.
Ask Edmonton. You know, Stuart Skinner, people were crapping on him last year against Vegas because
He got pulled a few times.
And for me in Toronto, we're talking about, you know, Samsonoff.
Guy was on waivers a month ago.
Like, you need stability in the net.
But it also speaks to where your organization's at, too.
Because what do you care if you're in a rebuild?
I don't think Mike Greer is worried about Kacken and Blackwood.
If anything, he can get something for one of them.
For sure.
I like Blackwood.
I'm a big Blackwood fan.
But they expect to lose.
So what's Blackwood going to?
do. If you look at his analytics, I think he's got six stolen games this year, where he's actually
stole points for San Jose. They don't want the points. They want, they want Celebrating, you know?
So I'm ranting, but it's kind of how I feel, you know?
I understand you had a very special guest on Overdrive last week, live in, at the Boston
pizza. There was, there was. And Gary? We tried to faunt him, and we tried to font him. And,
We gave him a shout out, though.
We gave the barn burner shout out.
I think even Hayes announced him from that, but it was good.
He was excellent, very good guest.
Just not at pumping up his own show.
No, he didn't mention it once.
So, Rhett, what are you doing now?
No, I think.
Podcast.
Podcast.
And then the next day he rolls in wearing a Barnburner shirt, and you're like,
you did not think this three.
You should have worn that.
He was very good, though.
It was very good.
We had a fun show at Boston Pizza.
We had a couple pops afterwards, got caught up.
Pinder came and joined us and really brought the level up a little higher of how good looking the people were at the table, the three of us.
You know, like this hair in Toronto.
What was a hit?
Yeah, exactly.
Your hair, for sure, the salad was gorgeous.
So anyways, it was fun.
We had a good, like, the podcast or our show guest.
was great, spoke.
And it was, wasn't it right after, like, what had happened?
I can't, it was after the Lindholm trade.
It was literally the day after.
So it was perfect timing.
And I don't know how you guys felt.
The all-star festivities around the town,
people were enjoying themselves.
My wife took my son to the fanfare on Sunday,
and he was loving it.
So it was a good weekend overall.
And I got to see my buddy, Rhett,
and I'll be seeing you guys.
When is the Kipper thing, March 2nd?
Mark's up.
Yeah.
I actually spoke with the gentleman yesterday.
He called me.
I can you believe it?
Yeah.
I think we're sitting down.
Holy shit.
I know.
I know.
I had a good chat with Kipper yesterday and he's fired up.
I want to ask one question because I didn't see it.
Was Kutcher off that bad?
Gilles, he was bad.
Yeah, you know what?
It got to a point.
And this is, so there were a couple.
So dry-sidal on the target shooting took like 90 seconds where guys were taking 12 seconds.
And I was kind of chuckling because I was like, okay, these guys are trying to appoint.
But after when it went south, you're like, okay, now the pressure's on and now you're missing the net.
You're bottling the puck.
Like dry-suttle could hit four out of four in his sleep.
And what happened is it kind of went south and he had a smile on his face, but he was like,
oh, this is bad. This is a bad look. For me, I thought Kuturov didn't take it that seriously,
and then it started to go bad. So instead of like digging in, he went the other way. I'm going to
play the heel. I'm going to wave to the crowd. I'm going to, you know, skate it half ass. And the crowd,
you know, the crowd gave it to him. There's a backstory too. I mean, Kuturov, the Tampa background
between the Leafs fans and Tampa, like, yes, they got by him last year, but previous years they
had and Kuturoff is a leaf killer. The guy scores every night that they plays against him.
Like I kind of chuckled because I'm like, people are making such a big deal about it.
If they are giving the heart out today, it's between him and McKinnon. So I mean, like, this is how good
the guy has been. So I get it. You want to play a little bit cool and not look like you're
frustrated. He just went the other way as like the hell with it. And you know what? He seems like
a player that's like that.
You know, he's no shirt, drinking a beer when he wins a Stanley Cup.
He's like, I don't care what I looked like.
I just won the cup.
So I didn't have a problem with it, but you could tell there were people that were frustrated
with it.
I like that he was, I wasn't surprised with the performance.
This could go two ways.
Just lean into it.
Be the heel.
I kind of like.
Well, if they bring you home, like put it this way, if they brought him home like Hannibal
Lector, like in a, they wheeled him into his hotel.
room the night before because he had had such a great night.
There's a reason that you show up like that.
I've heard some, you know, I heard a story one time about a guy at an All-Star game where they
brought him home in one of those valet, you know, when you check your bags at the hotel,
the valet guy brings those, that cart down.
They had the body on the cart and they wheeled it in.
They took it to the bar, brought the body home and took it and put the guy in his bed.
and then the festivities were at 1 o'clock or 2 o'clock the next day,
and he got out there and skated around like nothing.
Like he literally, like nothing had happened.
Like he wasn't weekend at Bernice the night before.
Yes.
So I don't know.
I just, I chuckled to myself because it became a big story.
And a lot of people who don't care about the All-Star game,
all of a sudden care.
Yeah.
Very invested in it.
This is in St. Louis.
He's not getting booed.
Let's be honest.
That's a divisional rival who's got bragging rights over the league.
Exactly, exactly. That's the way I looked at it.
What's going on for the next week?
You're traveling, doing what's going on?
I'm here in Toronto this week.
Next week I really start getting out on the road again.
I'm in Ottawa a couple times and then travel with them, Chicago, Nashville.
So I've got a couple of good cities coming up.
There's a trip right there.
Exactly.
Get that valet cart.
Yeah.
You know it wasn't me because we said All-Star Game.
All-Star game, yeah, yeah.
But if we were said just regular season,
we're like, noodles, where did they bring you home in the cart?
In the wheelbarrow?
No, it was, but yeah, like I'm traveling with Ottawa quite a bit,
you know, doing some panels and stuff like that.
I did Winnipeg's panel last night,
which was, you know, Winnipeg's have a tough time scoring right now.
Four in a row.
Yeah, yeah.
And, you know, I would be more worried about them
if they weren't generating chances.
Like right now they're generating chances
and it's hitting the goalie and going wide.
hitting the crossbar. It's missing the net. Connor had a wide open net last night. He missed
the wide open net. Kyle Connor doesn't miss wide open nets. But right now they're kind of
in one. So I'm not worried so much because even against the Leafs, the first game in Toronto,
they outplayed the Leafs. Samsonoff was the difference that night. So I think Winnipeg's still
strong team. It's just their turn for some adversity. But I look through the league and yeah,
I've got a bunch of, you know, just studio work. But outside of that, and then I'll be in Calgary for
Kipper's thing. I fly in that Wednesday morning the 28th. The 27th, I'm in Nashville and the morning
of the 28th. So we'll have to figure something out with my hit here, maybe in studio on the Thursday.
So we'll see. The morning of, so Nashville and then a morning flight, uh, late morning or?
Oh no, early, early, which is not good. That's, that's where you're getting the cab right from the
establishment. Instead of going back to your room, you just bypass it right to the airport. Yeah.
Beautiful.
Well, we look forward to seeing you, pal.
Good to talk to those.
Thanks for having me, guys.
We'll chat later.
See you.

the street and do it you just meant that be great yeah my one kid loves it so i think i could ramp up
here for a few weeks. My other boys had a
last Friday. They had a big
field trip
to the bowling alley. Is that right?
They're ready to go. Kids already beat me once.
He loves it.
142.
No bumpers.
You should pick up your game.
Yeah, this is a rough night for me.
And you can hammer a long neck while you're doing it.
Sure you can. Yeah.
I know that was one of the things when we were talking with
Kevin and Lisa at Kids Sports. So for food,
How do we, because there's something, do you go and get wings or like finger food and then you're grabbing the ball and firing it?
Maybe if there could be some sort of, was there cutlery or something that we're working on.
I'm not sure what the etiquette is when it comes to.
Chopsticks, perfect.
Greasy food and then grabbing the what, 10 pound or 12 pounder?
What are you going with?
Oh, it's got to be more than that.
Metro's probably a 14.
It's kind of where tops out at the.
the sort of published balls.
Sure I had a 15 or a 16.
Whoa.
Custom for sure you would have.
Yeah.
Man.
That's too much.
Too much for the shoulders now.
It's a lot for sure.
Panofin is a conversation you could have for an hour.
And we really have, honestly, once in a week for a year, basically.
Because he could get you a lot and he could be really good for you.
And does he want to stay or does he not want to stay?
He's not too old, but he's not too young.
He's still young and plays every game.
Yeah.
It's durable as hell.
He plays big minutes, but he doesn't run your power.
And the thing of it is, if any one of those things goes sideways,
so if he doesn't want to stay, well, okay, now you know what you're doing.
If the trade offers are garbage, then yeah, let's try and sign them.
But without having those details.
Well, he'll stay for nine.
Okay, well, we still know what we're doing.
You can, yeah, you can form.
In a way, it's not a terrible spot to be in.
Because if the worst case is you trade him for assets or you sign him and keep him,
you're probably okay with either of those outcomes.
And the challenge with the conversation is there's two blind boxes.
We don't know the offers for him, and we don't know the number that he says yes to you versus no.
And so that's like both ends of the spectrum are a bit blurred.
Yeah, I don't know how to.
Yeah, I don't think it's, if you do well in trade or you lock him in for eight years at something that starts to the seven, you can both you can spin as wins.
And I guess it's just what you're probably two, three year outlook looks better under the extension.
And the four to eight year outlook looks better if those assets that you get turn into Hanifans on team friendly.
deals under team control that aren't getting paid like UFAs.
And that was one of the things with the comps you're making on D.
All those guys you mentioned were not months away from UFA.
Like you're buying a lot of team controlled years, which aren't worth as much.
Like if Shabbat's three months away from free agency, he's getting a different number.
Sanderson's coming out of entry level into a massive deal.
It's just not apples to apples.
But what it is, Ryan, is it's the goalposts are moving.
You can't look at Devon.
tapes from two years ago and say that he's on the summer but yeah it was like it was it was a team friendly
deal he took less to stay and you did whereas it's like with forwards it's five million dollars
then it's six it just things keep moving and i don't know is what is the going rate for because he is
he's a top four guy that skates well yeah that he's not an offensive dynamo but he's not a black
hole either he does put up some points for you um is it is it seven
or is it getting closer to eight for a guy that could skate 20?
And look, how differently do you view him than when he arrived in trade?
He's the exact same guy.
Yeah, not a lot different for sure.
And so there already is a lot of inflation when you're going to, what is it, basically five to now you're seven and a half?
Like, inflation's cooked in here. We get it.
Like, Devin Tate is making 4.1 this year.
That deal kicks in next year at 7 and a quarter.
Yeah, I just, I would prioritize Anderson.
And you can certainly have a me number four next year on the second pair and be okay long term because it's only going to help your draft assets the next two years.
I would think you look now and it's Ristevich, Moran, Porre, Proustovich is 19.
This is my point.
In three years, there are going to be two million dollar players outproducing Hannafin potentially, or at least one of these guys.
You hope.
Yeah.
And never mind what you get back in trade.
that's a bow byrum or someone who makes two million well i mean if you get a bow byram then
then that changes the entire discussion for sure but you you delete tann of you delete zadorov and
then if hanifan leaves and if you don't get an nchl ready defenseman you're talking about it's being
thin it's that's tissue paper thin you've got three guys and and and shillington is a work of
progress as he continues to come back then yeah you're going to market and looking for some
veteran guys that can come in and give you some minutes.
And you're probably not going to be happy with what you're paying those guys.
It won't be seven and a half, but it could be four million for a guy.
You know what I mean?
Or what are you going to do?
Is it going to be Kuznetsov and Slova?
Are you really going to go that young?
The other idea is like you go to a team and like Arizona's done and you give us your
uh, Shane Goss to spare.
You're capped out.
you know, we'll give you one of these three seconds that all of a sudden we have
and you can win both ways.
And that kind of fits Connie's MO a bit as well, right?
Get younger, collect assets, but you don't have to use all.
You don't have to take them all to the draft.
Is that how you want to spend one of those seconds?
I know.
For a gossip bear, that's an absolute theft.
I think they took this second to get it.
What are you talking about then?
Because you don't care about next.
Why are you going and buying an older defenseman with one of those second round picks for
next season?
No, I'm just saying you can find a two to three or plug if you want to be competitive next year.
I'm just a little more keen to bottom out of them.
bit. Go get a franchise sentiment.
There still isn't one.
Go ahead, Red.
Well, I just, I, I, I, I, I, we've had this discussion.
Yes, we all want a superstar forward.
Like, duh.
Mm-hmm.
We're really making a statement there.
You still have, even if you get rid of Tannif and Tannifin,
and you get assets in return, how are you getting to the bottom five?
Because.
Not that.
Well. I mean, if you trade Markstrom, you like to there.
Okay. Just do the math. Well, if you trade Markstrom, Tanniv and Hanifin,
and then you're not talking about what we've just been discussing where it's a retool.
That's a, yeah, I think probably for the discussion, you assume Markstrom's going to be part of it.
That's, that's the longest shot, right? But it's somewhere like you say, right,
it's between bottoming out and being bad. But then all of a sudden you've got some young guys
who are full of piss and vinegar and they're excited to be there. And then they say,
started playing. And don't
don't just don't don't
misinterpret I'm cool with moving
it all and doing a rebuild because
I my opinion is this
rebuild shit it doesn't take
a decade. Oh, seven or eight
years of F that.
If you've got Wolf and he can play
that changes everything.
Now do we know if Wolf can play?
No, but we have a high expectation
that he can. Right? And if he can come in and in three years
be a top five goaltender,
top 10, that issue, that noodles and that everybody worries about,
when you don't have a goal, you're effed.
We have a goalie that we expect to be a top 10 goalie in the NHL.
Do we not?
Maybe that's far-fetched.
Well, if we don't have that expectation,
then you better keep fucking Markstrom.
For what, the three years and then he leaves as a you,
just as the team's getting competitive?
That's kind of the conundrum, right?
You have to buy time then.
But if you don't think Wolf's going to be great, then what are you doing?
You might be, yeah.
Like I think the high end is Saros, who, you know, was finished top two or three in
Vesna voting a few times.
Like that's, that's a guy that can go out and be one of the best goalies in the league.
Either way, this is that's the path.
You don't know.
Wolf is going to get the opportunity to prove you right or wrong.
That that's, you have that path.
You have enough confidence that that's going to be the way you move forward for sure.
And you hope that it does, you know, obviously that it works out.
Anyway, to further my point.
I just don't think that a rebuild selling all those assets means that you're out of the playoffs for a decade.
Agreed.
I just don't.
Yeah, there's too many good pros around.
You look at the two lines they got humming right now, the top pair that they've got,
that's going to keep you from really being awful.
But that's part of the problem.
Sorry.
That's the continuation of the conversation that I was getting at too,
was that you've got too many guys
that might keep you elevated,
even if you get rid of those pieces.
Especially if Huberto wants to look good.
Yeah, you could be mushy middle
just with what it is.
I was going to say it, a year
ago, Retro, we were hammering on
Nazim-Codry near the end of the season.
He was done with the coach. He was done with the year.
He was done with everything.
And since Connor Zeri and Pospisal
showed up, he's been a completely different
player, three points last night.
That gives him now 42.
in 50 games made a great couple of plays last night.
Zeri with another beautiful goal.
But does it isn't, again, isn't that a continuation of the,
I mean, it is a continuation of the conversation,
but isn't that like if anyone's going to fall off the fucking table,
it's cadre in three or four years, right?
And he's going to be making too much.
Is he good enough to move now?
Should you be moving him?
Why are we hanging on to Coleman?
Why have we not said,
you know what?
If all things are being equal and we're going down to the studs,
and we want to really improve our chances,
Coleman has never played better.
Stanley Cup winner.
It's just players of the term not moving.
That's all.
I like the idea.
We don't see it in the league under this,
the last few years.
But if your objective,
those are the guys that'll screw you from bottoming out, right?
Yeah, I agree.
Like the fear is that you keep Markstrom,
you re-en-canofen,
you maybe pick nine to 16 the next two, three years.
And then Michael Bauer,
Mackland is 38 UFA, Nassim's the same age,
you still don't have a franchise center,
you didn't accomplish anything in the playoffs,
and you got more sort of middle six wingers
and second parity that you drafted.
You've gained nothing.
That's what they are now.
That's the challenge.
And that's why I'm a little more open to amassing
as many firsts, young players, move Markstrom.
Like, that's your best chance at finding your next star.
They don't have a star.
Star is a star.
I sure like that.
I hope he is.
I really want them to be one.
I don't know these are yet.
Hell of a player.
What a goal last night, eh?
He's just, there's just something.
Confident with the puck.
It's like he's like, what?
Give me the puck.
It's a great pass.
And again,
how many kids are just going to shoot that short side
and try and beat the goal?
No, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going right to the crease.
How many times do you say it to your kid, to your kids retro?
Take the puck to the net.
Go to the net.
Try and beat the guy.
Be it a guy.
Ryan, you said it was kind of like,
found money and it's probably disrespectful and it's like but i feel the same way even though the guy
was a first round pick he was not on anyone's radar as being a guy that was going to come in not this
year not like this of an offensive well and there's reasons why we felt that way because it was the
weird bleeped up covid season he bounced between the western league and the a and then he got up
to the a year and a big injury it wiped out most of a season so a tough time staying healthy and the
numbers were good in the American League, but they weren't like, whoa, Jacob Peltje, Matthew Phillips
good, not to suggest that that translates directly to the NHL level and Phillips is considerably
older, but it just felt like maybe that's a middle six guy. And what we see is creativity and poise
that is very starlike. The combination of like seeing things no one else is seeing, but also just like,
he doesn't feel rushed out of place, overwhelmed at all, even though it's one of his
first 50 games in the NHL.
And he's trying and succeeding in making creative,
offensive plays, right?
There's, we've watched Huberno who in the past made the plays.
And then for two years, it's looked like he can't make the plays and you're starting
to question, why are you trying that?
Zari's trying things and making them happen.
Remember that first goal that Zeri scores.
It's in the blue paint.
He just happens to be standing there.
The puck goes up and down.
Oh, that's nice.
You know, kid got his first, one of those first games gets a,
it gets a goal, that's great. And from then on, it's, it's wrap around goals and he's trying to
to beat guys wide and going inside and out toe dragging on guys. It's a confident kid. And he's not
a kid. Again, he's drafted a few years ago, but you love seeing that. There's the hope,
though, I think, if you don't get a top five pick, is that you can still get an asset like
that. He's mid-20s and they traded back twice to get him. Like that's, that is a very good reminder
of what it can mean. And Noah Dobson, we mentioned earlier. That's,
That's literally the first round of the flame said to the island for Hamannick.
Like that's a really good young defenseman that's going to play 10 to 15 years in the league.
It's a little scary when you take a first on a team going to the playoffs, but it can work.
Like look where David Pastonak was drafted.
That's a top three winger in the league.
20 to 30.
There was no big deal last night.
Shut his shit down.
Yeah, none of the burns looked that good last night.
It's a big deal.
They got some work to do.
How do we like it?
If the Bruins want to get to that flames level,
you better get out of it.
Some work.
Some work.
Did we have any thoughts on the,
the Pospisal on Marchand,
rat on rat crime?
A couple wax on Markstrom.
And we said it.
When Pospisle wasn't there,
just there was a little bit of jump and energy missing.
It was there again last night,
and it probably had a lot to do with all-star breaking guys feeling good.
But when he's gone, you notice.
I just didn't.
think I said it last night is
if the guy's going to take a couple
cracks at the goalie and then he's going to get
popped for his effort. Evie Stevie.
Let him play. Let him
go. But they had to
I mean, five in a game for that
is stupid.
Slow mo it. Find a little
piece of stick. They're looking at the table. Let's just
see, oh, is there a little bit of the stick? Well,
where did he get him? It fellas.
Fellas.
Folling for Christ's sake. Didn't see it, Retro?
Didn't see what?
That hit.
Well, yeah.
What do you?
Well, I've just,
is that,
you know,
just five in a game?
No.
I'm with you.
I'm with you.
I'm agreeing with you by not saying anything.
It's he's,
he's in there.
It's fucking what's,
and it's always Marsha,
why does he,
why do those guys always get called?
I was just,
I said it last night and afterburn.
If you,
if that is Marshan coming on pospousal,
who's whacking a Bruins goalie,
it's coincidental.
Yes.
It just is.
whack, whack, bang.
It's like, okay, if you don't want to get whacked, don't whack our goalie.
And if you are going to whack our goalie, expect to get whacked.
Do they have whackamole at Greta?
I'm just thinking of why.
Yes, they do.
They do, right?
Yeah, they do.
It's at the back right by the street food.
Why is that your game?
Well, I just got me thinking about it because I was thinking of it because we're going
to Greta coming up.
Wack a rat.
We'll put a little marsher face on each of them.
Put a big beak on it.
We got game day coming up.
Hosted by Flames Nation and Barnburner over at Greta Bar Y Y YC, it's back.
We will be there.

Watch little hockey,

and maybe some whack a,
whackamol.
You should have seen last night.
We were at,
of course,
we were doing afterburner
at the Great Eagle Casino.
You going where I think you're going?
Oh yeah,
yeah.
Oh,
my.
Our waitress.
And she's there.
It's,
whatever we're there,
she must work the same shift.
So she,
she comes,
hey,
can I get you something like.
I was there before Ryan.
Ryan got there.
I was this,
hi.
How were the fellas?
Oh,
yeah.
Ryan gets there for the start of the second
and he's
he's had a haircut
since the last time he was there.
Sometimes he's wearing a hat or a toque
and you don't really know us for whatever reason.
He was topless last night.
The flow was cascading down.
The Tennessee top hat was looking sharp.
The Wyoming waterfall was majestic.
And she was enamored with the haircut.
Everything short of running her hands through it was happening.
I love your hair.
It just looks so good.
My husband tried this.
My husband tried this, but it just, you know, he's got the salt and pepper hair and it's just not the scent.
Oh, my God.
Like it.
She's kind of doing the, she's looking around.
She's doing the over top.
Oh, if you would have let her, she would have been just running her fingers through your hair.
It would have been motorboat in your hair.
Oh, he'd have been a motorboat and son of a bitch.
Yeah.
He would have been.
I thought I definitely got at least one or two
free origins out of that one.
I don't happen to stick up the bill.
No, nothing, hey.
So we go, we do the thing.
We're standing down there paying our bill.
Oh, I just, oh, I just, just the hair.
She was all over it again.
Doing the full 360 to get the whole.
Yeah, my husband, it's just like he couldn't.
But it just so tight on the side.
It's really, oh, yeah.
And then he says, yeah, you know, I probably need to,
maybe I need to go back in and tighten it up.
Oh, for sure.
Yeah.
Yeah, for, yeah.
I told the bear half that I've got an appointment on Wednesday night.
She's very excited that I'm going to cut my hair.
But what she doesn't know is that we're just going to do some racing stripes and dumb shit and get it even better.
Yeah, why not?
Why not?
Yeah, she was, uh, there's a, like there's an audience for everything, right?
No matter what it is, there's some, everybody has their thing.
And her thing was the Pinder Mullet.
the Pinder mudflap for sure.
It was high kicking at the
casino last night.
Getting some eyes.
Two at least. Yeah, two at least.
Let's do the Pinder report.
It is a presentation of Village Honda.
It's as though Honda designed the CRV for Calgary
and its unpredictable weather.
No matter the conditions, the CRV sits atop the pack
among compact SUVs.
You can feel confident behind the wheel of your CRV
as Honda has included a plethora of driver safety features that come completely standard on every CRV.
Check one out today at the village.
It's Northwest Ottawa.
It's your dealership for life.
And it's Village Honda.
And they bring you the Pinder Report.
All right.
Last night at the Grey Eagle Resort and Casino,
afterburner on the stage bar and Dean Porrette.
Gotcha.
The salary that Lindholm has.
kuzmankoff it's right it's not your fault it's not your fault it's not your fault i hate him so
much i know you too everyone knows i hate him so much you're not hiding it well how much you hate him
i hate him kuzmiko makes more money than lindholm oh my god it's not would not have guessed that
they would be taking on it was a five and a half to four point nine or something yeah which is it
by the way not doing the show no no no you need to keep
I don't want to do the show.
You got them,
you buckled him with your Kuzmankov all day yesterday.
And I think two to three times,
he went to the holster and pulled out of Kuzmankov.
Go with it.
He doesn't want to go with it.
You have to go with it.
But the problem is it's leaching in.
It's lightning in a bucket.
Yes.
You know?
The truth is in the pudding.
The truth is in the pudding.
The truth is in the pudding.
Like now I can't even use English language,
although it's sliding into some of these red.
They're geometrically speaking.
I have to throw the brakes on.
If ever I go to use lightning in a bottle.
Like in a bottle.
Because of you.
You know, geometrically.
I think it's because you didn't have your shades on.
That's what had you.
Anyway, we did actually see people's names properly and talk about the game.
Let's have a look at that one.
Is that a good idea?
Yeah.
Cuberon shown more chemistry with Cozmanco in 20, 40 minutes,
than he did in a year and a half with Elias Lindhol.
Totally fair. And different players,
like winger center, defensively strong, pure sniper.
Hubey speaks high skill,
and that's what he's got with his two linemates right now.
I don't know that Sharon Govich is a center in the NHL,
but if he can masquerade as one for a few months,
that line looks deadly.
And I was jokingly calling it the all-gas, no-breaks line.
I'm sticking with it because it's not the no-gas, no-breaks.
It is all-gas.
And they showed the gas tonight.
There'll be other nights where they have some tough times in their own zone.
But those are three of your most offensively gifted players all in the same level.
There was a little bit of something there, whether it's because they're thinking it,
whether it's because the opportunities were there.
But it was going both ways.
Kuzmanko found Huberdow on a couple of occasions.
First chance of the game, right?
So, hey, it's exciting if you're a Flames fan.
And Elias Linholm, he goes to Vancouver.
He gets a couple tonight.
So it's a great hockey tree.
Hello, this, Rhett.
First rushing forward for the football.
flames since.
Sergei Macaro.
Your boy. Come on now. Overtime winner.
G. Way. Oleg Suprikin.
That is a long as time. It's wild, isn't it?
Nuts.
It's not like Russia's some Luxembourg.
Like, it's a hockey nation.
They've had like 10 Slovakians since then.
You're telling me they have no Russians?
Wild.
Here's, by the way.
2,500 Saskers.
zero Russians.
There's a little Daryl effect there probably.
There was some influence.
On the draft for a few years, then it came back as the coach.
The, yeah, it was a really good
debut for Kuzmenko.
There's no question about it.
And the guy's going to be a fan favorite.
He's laughing and giggling like a kid.
He's all smiles.
He's got the crazy hair.
Let's have a peak post game just for a little taste of the new guy.
It's good.
I like it because I say before season,
I won't play to playoff.
I try. It's every game. It's a little step, step, step. Today is a difficult game for me, because I tired.
Yeah.
Well, I think maybe play is 40 minutes, 50 minutes, but not 15.
Yes, I, today is a normal game. It's not too much good because we have a lot of chance.
We need more goals.
It's my line.
It's good.
A good line.
It's a very good connection.
It's a very shift.
It's a talk.
I like it.
I like it.
It is Shanko.
Huberdo.
He's a very great player.
Very great players.
And the power play is good.
I hope.
I hope.
This guy's fun.
What a beautiful kid.
Oh!
I was very tired.
I play 15 minutes.
It's very tired.
Welcome, Andre. Welcome.
Outta boy.
Hubbard, been good of late, looked really good last night on that line.
There's the pike bomb for you since 2024, 13 points and 13 games.
That's okay.
We're actually way into February here, and there was 10 days of no games.
That's a decent little run for him.
And he goes on to say the players with more points since the turn of the calendar to this year.
Cadry was 16.
Coleman with 14.
Sharon Govich tied with 13.
All right. So there we are.
Hubie was kind of trending in the right direction before they gave them a line with these
Bell Russian and Russian playmakers.
So what did we say?
Like at the start of the year, if Huberto got X, would you be happy?
What was that?
Well, in last year you had 55 and we were all banking on a bounce back.
Frank said 90 preseason.
Yeah.
I think it's 70 you would have taken.
Yeah.
In that, yeah.
He's got 29 in 49.
And as he said, it's the bulk of.
those of coming the last six weeks or so.
Yeah, you want to flirt with point per game pace?
Play well.
That'd be great.
Go ahead.
We'll forget the first half of the year if you're a point per game
and the rest of the world.
What about the first year and a half?
I'm happy to pretend it never existed if you
look like a point per game player.
Very giving.
It's very generous of you guys.
You know how we're all.
Yeah.
Very good of you.
Yeah.
NHL Network was talking about some big moves.
Last week we were in Toronto.
We saw the Monahan deal.
We saw the Lindholm deal.
What's next?
And they've got a,
I believe that's Jason DeMeres
alongside
Corey Schneider on the right, the former
Jersey netminder, and their host.
So the question is lob to DeMeres.
What's a move you want to see made?
I'm doing Noah Hannifan, keeping it with the deed.
New Jersey Devils, go get them.
Enough's enough enough. You have $9 million.
Stop waiting to the trade deadline.
Go get Noah Hanifan.
Help on the back end.
They need some help back in and goaltending.
I mean, UC could potentially go there with that.
What about a money?
They have a marsher manifin package.
Ooh, that would be pretty as well.
Kevin Weeks would say.
You did that earlier in a completely thorough week.
He's been doing the skills competition.
But Noah Hannifton.
I mean, he does everything, plays big minutes, offense, defense.
You can do it all.
And I mean, he's good, good kiddo.
Beanpot.
Did you win the Beanpot?
No.
We'll get to that later.
We'll get to the Beanpot.
Hanof into the Devils, fellas.
What do we think?
Is that pitched by good looking Jason Demaris?
If in fact who that's who that is, yeah.
I think I saw it, DeMeres.
It's not Jock Damars.
It's certainly not Jock.
I don't think it matters.
There's going to be a lot of teams where Noah Hanifan would fit right in.
Oh, can you skate like the wind and play north of 20 every night?
Here's a jersey.
We have too many defensemen.
I'm sorry.
Said no playoff team ever.
Right?
Yeah.
So go the standings.
Figure out who's going to have the highest first round pick and then trade them there.
There is the quest for the wildcard friends.
The Kings are in free fall.
They've just fired their coach.
We'll see how they respond to that coming out of the All-Star break.
They've got 56 points.
St. Louis, two back.
They hold the final wildcard.
Nashville tied with them but have played two more games.
Seattle's a couple points out.
The flames are three out.
Yeah, the game's played not even.
But boy, we keep dancing between, look at this.
They're almost in the top six of the draft.
Oh my gosh, they're not that far from wildcard too.
Not so.
So definitely closer to the wild card than the bottom.
Than the bottom.
But what about top six, let's say?
I mean, it's not far at all.
It's wild.
Like you've got Arizona, Minnesota, Ottawa,
Montreal, right below them.
Offalo.
That's that retro?
Usually he has the inverse standings.
I know.
Go back and forth.
It's so confusing.
Here's what they got next.
If they lose these three,
it'll be inverse standings or else.
the year, I promise you.
Okay, good.
They win them.
We'll be doing wildcards.
They really are in the Mucky Medal.
The Devils, it'll be to Foley,
Sharon Govich conversation on Thursday night.
Retro, set to work after burner with Cammy on that one.
Saturday.
Pardon me?
A little worried about that.
Yeah, well, you've had a week to get your plans straightened out,
so I'm sure you've got something.
What's the concern?
It's on the MSG network, I think.
It's a regional blackout.
So he's going to have to go to a sports bar.
Go eat some work.
wings, Red.
Because, yes, Buffalo is so close.
There'd be a lot of buffaloonians who would maybe buy tickets to that game on Long Island.
It's not for tickets.
It's regional broadcast rates.
It's annoying.
It really is.
They're not blacking out Calgary games on SportsNet West in Vancouver because they're worried about
Vancouver fans not driving to the game.
It's not for attendance.
It's stupid regional rights.
It's annoying.
It's very dumb.
Islanders matinee on Saturday.
said it yesterday. Patrick
Waugh behind the helm. Probably looked like a different
group than you've seen the first half of the year.
And the Rangers having a monster year, although we did
talk about it. Some speedwobles for Shusirkin
here. A couple of years removed from
Vezna, quick playing a ton.
That's your Monday nighter, another MSG
game for RET so we can watch him sweat
on a game day. How about that?
And there they are. Rangers
leading that division. Carolina, Philly
currently in playoff spots. Islanders
on the outside looking in. Penguins and
devil's trying to get on the inside of that playoff cutoff line as well.
That's a pretty tight little division there.
Look at that.
Then they're home for four, fellas.
Home for four.
First look at the shocks.
Four win, four last things again.
It's been very Jekyll and Hyde, right?
They did so well in that gauntlet run.
Then they were just okay.
Boy, you're really nice start to the road trip.
They kick serious ass and,
Arizona and Vegas. Come home, win the first
of a six-game homestand, nearly
lose all the rest, if not for a Markstrom shutout
against a bad Chicago team.
It's like watching Nikita Zedorov
here this club the last two months.
And on the other side, who would have guessed
that Boston wouldn't have, that you were
going to, like a tap in for the flames
last night. God, they look bad. And they're much
better than that. That screams of,
yeah, two points for sure. Who do
we got on Thursday?
Or it was, yeah, I'm still sweating out
the booze from
the guys drink. I don't know if anyone
drinks anymore. I think
they might.
It's probably the
low carb stuff though.
Treadmill beers, yeah.
Steinberg beers.
People asked on Afterburner last day,
what about the Calder odds? What about Zary for
Calder? I told you they're on Betway, so found
them today. But Ard still a heavy favorite to win the
rookie of the year award. Brock Faber,
a clear cut second option.
And then after that, Luke Hughes is in the mix.
Marco Rossi, Connor Zeri, and Logan Cooley.
I'll tell you what, the fact that you're ahead of Logan Cooley
says a lot about maybe what we got.
He's the biggest surprise in the list for sure.
It's a heck of a fine.
And again, he missed what, the first nine, 10 games of the year?
Good on you, kid.
And I said to Ryan last night, I said, you know, he's the oldest of that group.
Don't care.
Oh, God, like,
when he's 27-year-olds win this thing.
Like who the bleep cares if he's 21, 22, 2018, 19, like, it's first year award.
I didn't mean to, yeah.
Why do you hate Connor's Eric?
Sergey, Sarin.
There was a 26-year-old playing a college game last night in Buffalo.
Really?
Yeah, 1998 birth year.
Oh.
He's a grown-ass man right there, like college.
Okay.
Grow up, kid.
You guys see that the Evanton Oilers?
I don't.
Winning streak, shootouts, overtime, regulation.
The oilers don't exist in my world.
I'm sorry.
I'm just going to get Chipspeed really quick.
So Vegas was two of their best players,
and they still beat the Oilers.
No Eichl, no Theodore.
Oilers were actually really bleeping good.
And they were very sensational.
The winning streak does come to an end at 16.
So maybe guys, they're only as good as the 1617 blue jackets,
who also did 16 in a row.
Just, you know.
It's amazing.
Imagine if Theodore and Eichel were there.
What are we talking?
Eight one.
It's just amazing.
How about this?
This sounds crazy because it is.
Two months ago in December 6th, the Oilers sat 12 back of the Canucks.
After a 16-game winning streak in there, they've closed that gap to 14 months.
They made up no ground in two months.
With a 16-game winning streak in there?
What the Sam hell is going on?
Right.
It's less about the Oilers and more about the Canucks.
It's a great, it's a great stat.
It's incredible.
How good of the Canucks been that, you know, we know they've been good,
but this winning streak, you know what's talking about them?
They gained ground on the Oilers in the last two months.
What?
And again, we need to close the gap.
That's a 14 points.
It's very good.
Oh, okay.
Speaking of streaks, love this stat.
Mario Lemieux, he knows heaters as well.
A lot of talk about that 17 game winning streak that the penguins hold the record.
That was 92, 93.
Lots of attention on it, is noted here by Josh Yohi, who I believe reports in Pittsburgh on the penguins.
In those 17 games, 27 goals, 24 assists, 51 points, only weeks after undergoing chemotherapy treatment for cancer.
Are you kidding me?
People forget how good Mario was.
I saw another random Mario one.
What's the fewest number of games
that took a player to get to 100 points?
And someone's like, it's got to be Gretzky.
It's probably 40 to 50 games.
What do you think the answer is?
Mario.
37 games to get to 100 points.
Are you bleeping me?
37 games to get 100 points.
The goal is sucked.
The goal is sucked back there.
He sucked for everyone.
He's the only guy that got 137 games.
Yeah.
Phenomenal.
Just an incredible.
incredible talent. God, wild.
And I think he, you could pull off.
That's got to be your Halloween costume now.
We'll get you a 66 jersey.
I got, I got the Yagra outfit.
I just need a pal.
Yeah, maybe Yon-A-Fraidy, step it up, do one better, do the owl.
My wife couldn't stop looking.
I showed a guy, Afraidy picture.
She's a screensaver now.
She was enamored.
Yeah.
Fuffalo.
I saw him hawking one piece composite sticks for kids about 10 years ago at a convention.
Come on.
Still had the mullet or bullet, whatever terminology you like there.
You know if the dart going?
That was in the inside, but he kept leaving for five-minute breaks.
Same leather jacket.
Media day at the Super Bowl yesterday,
which means a bunch of people that don't know F all about football,
get to ask football players really, really, really,
dumb media questions.
This one probably takes the cake for Brock Purdy,
because you knew you were going to get the Taylor Swift nonsense
and all kinds of, well, you marry me and all that.
But here's a really, really, really, really awkward question.
I have you and Lee Harvey Oswald circling around the internet right now.
People think you took the mic.
Did you ever hear that before?
I haven't.
That's my first time hearing it.
Yeah.
What do you think about that comparison?
Uh, yeah.
Yeah, I don't know.
So Brock, again, was, said, hey, do you know, you look like one of the murderers of the
president of the United States of America?
What do you think about that?
Oh, I think it's great.
All right, that's quite an honor.
to be considered in that same category.
I'm surprised with how uptight the NFL is about some things
that they allow media day to happen.
It's just a certain.
Yeah,
it's good for business.
You can't wear the wrong colored socks during warm up,
but they'll allow donkeys in to ask Super Bowl contestants.
Any question that Lee Harvey Oswald questions.
I'm kind of don't get it.
If it's tied to money, they do it.
And if this is what gets, you know,
you on every single channel of television ever, then they've accomplished it.
Patty Mahomes, mixtape has dropped. This is going to be listened to when he comes into
Super Bowl this weekend in Vegas.
And I keep my side of the swamp clean.
You want to know what I mean.
Kermit is my boyfriend.
Kermit is a guard.
Kermin is the breeze of my hair on the weekend.
Kermit's a relax.
Jack's just dying over here.
I don't know if that hits this hard for you guys.
Broadcast rights on that.
He got asked a few Kermit questions yesterday too.
Yeah.
Again, that the NFL would let the biggest star in the league have to,
hey, you sound like Kermit.
Yeah, I know, man.
Let's get a Marta Lipp Construction Update, Dean.
This is me watching this work today.
You're going to like this.
We need a live cam, a live feed.
Almost done.
No, not even close.
Yeah.
And the whole lot.
One way in a park.
What are they, like, what are they doing?
They're taking the little carving up sidewalks.
Like are that, but are they, are they sucking things out or are they putting things in?
Like, it's a back truck.
What are they?
They're multiple vac trucks.
Like four on the block.
It's, uh, it's a circus.
A pork Korean bakery.
Ooh.
Wow.
And flying gravel to get in there.
Okay.
Is it cold?
It looks cold.
Uh, minus eight today.
Not bad.
Yeah, we had that plus 13 nonsense.
We need this for the rinks, Rhett.
Think of the kids, would you?
I am.
Love it.
Good.
Uh, top golf just opened somewhere in the Midwest.
How's it going?
Let's check in.
Uh, little rock Arkansas.
Not in Midwest.
Your feet were, yeah.
Oh, boy.
When you're swinging, you have to keep your feet.
Oh.
Yeah.
Not ideal.
The Nets work.
You need one of those trucks from Marta Lute comes in there.
Crane that thing out.
Check out this.
See, sometimes we just show fails and you're like,
this isn't going to end well.
Sometimes there's a twist at the end.
And this one, superhero powers.
Watch this.
On top of the truck.
Not a park.
Fly down the hood.
Fences there.
Hang on.
Oh.
The rest of work.
I'm using a different, I'm making a different choice in that circumstance.
Yeah, if that's, uh,
front of the truck.
If that's your family business, I,
I get this.
If you're making 13 an hour,
that is not a decision you make.
Well,
also,
this idiot never watched the Dukes of Hazard.
Wouldn't you slide into the truck and slide in?
Yeah,
throw the brakes on.
Don't hit that gas.
Instead of risking being crushed between a fence at a vehicle.
That's what Bo Duke would do.
Come on.
Uncle Jesse would be pissed off.
If that van went and got into the Tully's there,
he'd be not very happy.
Now imagine we had an all-star break on this show.
We had to go down to the tropics for a while.
Maybe sit by the pool for a bit.
Wait.
Night ties, Pinacolada.
Yes.
Well, isn't baseball coming?
Is that what we're good?
Spring trains coming up.
This would be the time to go do it.
Why are the bird of boys?
We are big on baseball.
Yeah.
A lot of baseball.
a lot of baseball on the program.
But one of the things you probably,
you guys on the beach will be selling you the straw hats,
rough riders,
straw hats,
all that stuff.
But also you can go parasailing,
which I've always thought looks like a hoot.
Look at all the big smiles here,
Red.
Wee!
Oh, this is great.
Oh,
okay, lift us up now.
Okay.
Up.
Up.
Up.
Growning.
Oh, somebody'd be getting a punch right in the nose.
If you're alive, yes, that is correct.
Once your lungs have emptied of seawater, they're going to get one.
That's horrifying, by the way.
Being strapped into something's sinking?
Not good.
There's another thing I'm not doing.
Pass me that list there, would you?
Parasailing.
Okay.
Got it.
Now, I believe this is some All-Star footage.
Kutrov was in the bag a bit on Thursday, not great at skills,
and just really didn't have time for much that night.
He was, the night was over and he knew it.
Yeah.
There's that luggage card.
Would that be the piss slip and not the puke slip if he fell down?
This is the piss walk.
There's no split.
And he's got a full bladder.
Yeah, that's, uh, the old piss and walk.
A trottle looks great.
I didn't.
Yeah, they're gorgeous.
Big Ben.
What are we got there?
Wow.
Finally, Dean, you're going to love it.
Finally, Dean, it's all about me.
I don't want you to worry about toilets anymore because you're always worried about
snakes coming up.
Very worried about them.
Yeah.
There's other.
places in the house horrible things to come out of too let's have a look okay
tiptoes through the wind down it's not everywhere all
is that the sink or what is this oh my god that's coming up from the
instinctor eater oh dang how many are there those are some cockaroches
it's not ideal no no no turn on that thing
throw a little bleach down there and let that thing run for a while yeah
ugh not good
Astor, it's tough, though.
Like, they probably just drink the bleach and just...
Yeah, that's why I get the car right around.
Yeah.
They start glowing.
Start growing together and fall in the T-1,000, T-2,000.
Yeah.
That's a pinned report for...
That's great, Ryan.
Thanks to, yeah.
Great.
A presentation of Village Honda,
huge selection of pre-owned all makes all models, all budgets.
Over 90 units on site.
Access to more than 500 more inside the dealership group.
Make Village Honda.
one-stop automotive destination in Calgary.
They're worth the trip.
It's Village Honda in the Northwest Automol.
Village Honda.
Philist Honda.
The San Francisco Street.
Plans for Sunday retro?
Driving.
Oh.
To Vegas?
From Rochester.
Have you guys heard of this great town, Pittsburgh?
Oh.
I've been a couple of.
couple of times. Seems nice.
It's better at some of the
ballpark. I've met a guy from Pittsburgh
asshole. That was the thing.
I thought Frank was from Philly.
Yeah, different guy. Okay.
Yeah, different guy.
He's always got some
friggin' black and yellow
Zubaz pants on, some
Biden's Ward t-shirt.
It's like enough, dude. We get it. You love this
friggin got it. Matt Canada.
Yeah. So tournament,
games. Yeah. You know,
We had a discussion about the show and off-air discussion on there yesterday.
They're very, very busy month for the retro.
Very busy.
The Redster.
Because we just came out of our busy month because we had the Jasper thing in there too, right?
There's going to be a lot of hit and mess here.
A lot of hit miss.
Well, we'll have to brace ourselves for that.
As long as they're a hit for those Devils Rangers afterburners you signed up for,
we're in great shape.
Did I say two games?
Yes.
I'm going to have to re-check.
You just rejig it sooner than later so that I can backfill.
I'd be fine doing it.
If I could get it on the screen, I should.
You know, you can't, though.
So you're going to have to go to a different screen.
And we already know that.
This is not a game day challenge.
This is a, you've got a week to figure your shit out challenge.
A week?
Thursdays and a day.
It was last week when I said, how's this look for you?
And you said, I can do devils and Rangers.
And I said, hey, Red, those will be MSG games.
Oh, I bet you're right.
Okay, well, how's your plan B?
We're in Toronto and we talk.
I can do Tuesday.
That's what I said.
Oh, and the 12th.
Damn it.
I can do it.
Thursday and the 12th, you said, yeah.
I'll be just fine.
Can't leave Cammy hanging.
She's ready to rock.
She's pulled the wool out or the carpet out from under my feet.
She was day to day.
And she's back and healthy.
No, she's wearing the regular jersey.
She's out of the non-con.
She was hung over.
Is that what it was?
Was she over served?
No.
She just had a bad little winter, fluey, fevery coffee.
Gross.
Brown's boy.
105 feet?
Oh, no.
Yeah.
She's back and ready to go.
She said, I want Rett.
I want the Power Play specialist.
Let's get this.
Again, another off-air conversation.
No, it's not.
That's the on-air one.
Is it?
So what day are we talking?
about 13th?
Saturday is the 10th.
That would be a Cammy Pike afterburner.
Monday is the 12th.
That wraps the road trip on Broadway
against the Rogers.
And in tomorrow night it's the devil's,
the devils!
The devils!
You know what I'll do?
You know what I'll do?
Yeah.
I'll just go to frickin New York and watch the game.
That's a great idea.
How about that?
Stick that in your pipe and yeah.
Sounds great.
You dead beats.
one week
Pittsburgh I got to go to
freaking Minneapolis
I got to go to Calgary
and I got to go to Saskatoon
none of the yeah
Pittsburgh's close
the rest in the next month
and Cincinnati
Cincinnati
WKRP yes
got kind of tired of packing
and unpacking
town to town up and down
the dive once again
Jack is going what are these idiots
talking about
stop his toes though
one week today is Valentine's Day.
Wednesday.
One week.
Can I get by on the card and flowers?
This is another one of those things.
Very similar.
Ryan telling Rhett a week prior that you're going to have to make arrangements for this.
Don't sit here next Monday and Tuesday and say,
guys, you never told me that Valentine's Day was Wednesday.
That's like in a day from now.
It's like, well, that's why we told you.
You dummies.
Vena Nova
is the answer to all of your concerns,
your questions, your problems,
you're puckered,
you don't know what to do.
Vena Nova.
You can go online and check things out.
You can go to the downtown showroom.
It's located on the second level
of Stephen Avenue Place.
And why Vena Nova?
They are exclusive in lab-grown diamonds.
You're not going to have to,
was this, what is this?
Was this one of those dirty, gross mind diamonds?
Oh, it's not good because I want one of the pristine ones that's made in a lab that's perfect.
Same chemical composition and crystal structure as an earth mine diamond,
but you are going to save serious money in terms of purchase,
75%, 80% less than what you would pay otherwise.
And we're one week out.
I think that gives you enough time.
Listen, and if you don't, I know you're going to go in there like an idiot and not know what to get.
And then Justin's going to make a couple suggestions.
People are going to help you out.
if you're still an idiot,
tell him to call me.
Send me a picture.
I'll pick for you.
Okay.
There you go.
And that number is,
he has it.
Okay.
So just,
yeah.
And it's okay with you
if he gives out your number?
Yeah.
If you want Red's number,
just go chat with Justin.
How are you?
He's going to,
if you don't like Justin's suggestions
and just tell Justin,
hey, send that to Retro.
And you know what?
It's not a surprise.
The ladies all know Valentine's is coming.
Maybe you take your squeeze.
Go to that lovely restaurant right down and then, up we go, make a date of it.
Perfect.
Don't drink too much before.
No, no, you can.
She's got to be dialed because you're not making that decision.
Come on now, let's be honest.
I would love another double Caesar extra spicy, please.
Yes, that sounds good.
This thing's called the English Garden.
That is fantastic.
But listen, but it's a great idea, quite honestly.
You're downtown.
You're at the Stephen Avenue Place, babe.
We're going out for a nice lunch.
Then we're going to Vina Nova.
You're going to pick out something nice for yourself,
and then, you know, whatever else.
And then, then you know what's up.
Fireworks.
It's in the fine print right here.
Did you just shake your hair out?
That's right.
I'm bad.
I like those new diamonds.
I've done my part.
What do you think?
If you'd have done that last night,
Mel.
I'd have been cleaning up the gear by myself.
Hey, hot shot.
It's right.
leave in the basement. I guess I'll, I guess I'll pack up. Vena Nova.com or a Stephen Avenue place.
Again, it's the Stephen Avenue place. Second level, you're not going to miss it. It's right there. And all they do is lab row.
Best. I don't know why you would do it any other way. So you got a week. You got a week to get your shit in order.
You got a week. I did deliver a lovely card and flowers two days ago.
That was caused by your own stupidity.
Correct.
Does not count.
No,
he's still got it.
Close.
I thought I'd ask,
you know,
I was pretty sure,
but does anyone else buy like seven cards
for the year?
Right?
When you remember,
this is my plan.
I go when a summer,
bam.
Oh,
Christmas is okay.
Well,
I'll get a Christmas.
Well,
I might as well get a Valentine's Day card.
And a birthday card.
And it's St.
Patrick.
whatever the hell anniversary
anniversary card right
I buy them all in one
and then I put them somewhere
and then you
oh no
yeah and then they stay there
kind of got to remember where they are yeah
that's like boom with his gift cards
don't you have a stack of gift cards like
two inches high and you like no idea where they are
no got a hundred bucks to that store
no idea where it is
no I think it was I think it was one
I think there was we did a stack of them
and you're just no idea where the stack is I'm screwed
no
That's not it.
I found my Christmas card for the shoveler the other day.
That's the problem.
Well, and the other thing is, too, if you find the cards, make sure you give the right one.
It's, babe, Merry Christmas.
It's our anniversary.
Shit.
All right.
Hang on, just a festive tidings, my dear.
Let's St. Patrick's Day.
This is not a holiday.
Put that beer down.
Hanukkah, Kwanza, Shantworth.
It's not as hard as we make it out to be.
It really isn't.
But yet, here we are.
Well, we're dumb beasts.
dumb, dumb, dumb idiots.
Big dumb animals.
We'll do some DoorDash.
Oh, yeah.
We'll do some Betway.
And then we'll remind you that tomorrow is Thursday,
so we need your questions for Ask Red for Bontan meets.
That's what we're going to do here in the next couple of minutes.
So we'll start with the DoorDash.
All you need to do is get yourself the DoorDash app.
Do you know how to use your phone?
You can go on to the, you got an Android or an Apple,
and then you go and you find it's apps.
Right? And then you go and so what is it the Google store or whatever for Android.
It's the app store or Apple or whatever. You just kind of figure it out and oh,
there's there's door down. You get it down there. You're going to have to put in your your details,
which I know, right, you don't like doing that, right? Putting in address and stuff.
My latest research has me believing that it's irrelevant. If they want to know Rhett's
address, they know it. They know it already. Yes, they do. Yeah. Yeah, it's just
behind that chain like fence and Rob Bray's back here. That's where he is.
restaurants, grocery, pharmacies, bakeries, flower shops, Ryan, flower shops.
It's all there on DoorDash and ordering is easy.
You just open that DoorDash app.
What do you want?
When do you want it?
Where do you want it from?
It shows up right at your door.
And for a limited time, our folks, our buddies get 25% off zero delivery fees.
And it's just $15 and more for your first order.
If you've not done the DoorDash, you keep here to us talk about it.
I don't know what you're waiting for.
I don't know what else we've got to do.
Get you on board, but how about 25% off and zero delivery fees in your first order?
Nation 25 is the promo code.
Put Nation 25 in there.
The deal kicks in.
And you're going to be thrilled.
You're going to be super duper happy with how it just shows up right at your door.
So for tonight, no flames, but we got some things going on.
What's on the menu for DoorDash?
So I got one kind of all day check in and out as you please.
I've got an early evening and a later evening.
So, Rhett, it really, it's just, it feels like a night at the buffet for sports.
First off, the waste management Phoenix Open.
We get ready, get ready.
It can be final practice round.
We're going to see people starting to mill about the stadium hole.
This is more just a warm up for Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
It's going to be a blast.
So keep your eyes peeled for that.
Five o'clock, we've got the lightning and the Rangers.
Two, I dare I say, contenders in the Eastern Conference should be fun.
Five o'clock start there, one of three NHL games tonight.
and we'll go for the Hoopers and the Dimmers on the Hardwoods.
The Houston, Houston, Houston,
Torquenches.
The Houston Torquenches against the Toronto Raptors.
That one in Toronto at 530.
Golf, hoops, hockey.
Let's go.
It's Coutchron.
And in Houpes.
Hand in Hupes.
Station 25 for that 25% off your first order with DoorDash.
Off for valid in Canada.
Subject to change terms apply dash that for the win with DoorDash.
And you mentioned the golf thing.
Today, a winner from the top shelf elf is going to be at the 16th.
That was one of the prizes that we had, courtesy of our pal Darcy Hortichuk.
He's there.
It was the Wednesday of the waste management.
So those fellows are going to be there with some food and booze.
Last final practice round, I get some celebrities out there.
It'll be fun.
Is the weather going to be okay in Phoenix, though?
It's hard to...
It's a little cool.
You just can't trust it down there.
Hard to find a nice day down there.
Good drinking weather, I think.
Yeah, it's tricky.
It's 55, which is what?
12 to 18, somewhere in there.
Come on.
Come on.
Come on.
Work.
So if you're going to take all your gear off, like that guy did yesterday on the Pinder report,
be a little bit.
Yes.
That handsome, malted fellow.
Yeah.
In the woman's bikini.
A little confused at wardrobe there.
we'll do some betway bets get that betway app against the same thing you go into the
whatever google store the app stores you get the app and then you get into the shh you put some info in
there right are you okay putting your info on uh on a betway app you're okay absolutely yeah there you go
bet the responsible way with betway and here's what we're looking at you mentioned ryan
there's three games tonight i'm in on a couple of them dallas at toronto toronto has played
once since the all star break and remember they were very disappointed sheldon keef was unhappy
they kind of pissed it away late.
They did.
Dallas coming back.
Ottinger's healthy again.
I'm just going to take it's plus money for a money line on, on Dallas.
I'm going to give it a shot.
Plus 120 for a Dallas anytime win.
And same for the Tampa Bay Lightning.
They're at the Rangers.
We've talked about the goaltending issues.
Why not?
Getting plus money with Tampa Bay.
I'll take it.
Plus $1.15 for an anytime win for the Tampa Bay's time.
That should be fun.
All kinds of star power in that matchup.
I've got a bet there as well as another.
game, Minnesota, finally getting a little healthier. They've got the lowly Blackhawks. There is no
Badd yet back in their game day lineup. Caprisov first goal. We've hit a few first goals of
lay. We hit the McKinnon one two nights ago. See if we can do it again. Plus seven hondo for
Carrill the thrill to strike first in the windy city. Elsewhere, Adam Fox, a power play point
plus 162. Don't mind that at all in that Rangers lightning game. And Dean.
Stay hot.
Thanks, pal.
Stay hot.
Yeah, you were hitting dingers yesterday.
He's the flames right now, this guy.
So didn't you hit on both?
Yeah, I got both mine too.
We're both, we're on heaters here.
One more, we're on fire.
That's, been a nice week on the Betway bets.
Because we both had the Kuzmenko anytime goal.
If we'd have had the first goal,
14 to 1 for the first goal for Kuzmiko,
if anyone was brave enough yesterday.
We both hit the anytime goal,
plus 225.
If that's over 200,
that's an automatic game to hit
the way he looked last night.
And that number will shrink
as he scores more.
And then the other one,
you had a point for Hanifin.
Hanifin for, yeah,
just a point in Boston.
And I had,
Vegas was obviously going to win
even without the two best players
against some overhyped crew.
Oh.
Well, how Betway is doing it.
Thank you, Betway.
Get that Betway out play along.
It's,
again, if you get in there and you start looking,
there's sports in there that you can,
bet on i don't even know what the hell the sport is handball
i don't okay uh yeah let's let's give uh what twerk twerk fest i don't know what that is but yeah
let's give it a let's give it a shot betway bet the responsible way with betway and for for
sure get it set up and have your little you know get your little kind of little little
balance in there in time for sunday oh yeah get signed down
get a balance in there and be ready for Sunday.
You got plans, Pender, you do have plans, right?
What are you doing for the big game?
Aren't you doing something?
No, we're, what?
Should be back from her impromptu Vegas vacation.
And we've got a couple families coming over with kids around the same age.
So hopefully the outdoor rings a good shape and you little ping pong in the basement.
Nachos, wings.
Thinking about a seven-layer dip, red.
Oh, that's not healthy.
You're not, yeah.
What are the seven layers?
There's the refried bean.
Salsa.
Sour cream.
Fried beans, guacamole.
Oh, yeah, well, for sure.
That's getting close there.
It's got them close.
Yeah.
If that's not seven.
Grated cheese on top, if you put like the cheese.
Sure.
And you even have a salsa verde, that green salsa as well, you've got all kinds
options.
Okay, Rhett, that's your homework assignment.
Tomorrow is Thursday.
What just, because not everybody has the culinary proeweller.
that you do to be marinating and doing things because you you love the kitchen you love getting
it for just an ordinary guy what are we making bring to something to the table tomorrow
maybe a couple of things tomorrow and Friday so we know what we can make for Super Bowl on Sunday
that's Super Bowl that's fair that's what we'll call it because you do like to I've been to one of
your Super Bowl parties we were doing wings and we had pulled pork and we had all kind it was it was a lot
you had a lot on the go that day.
Pulled pork's always a good one.
Yeah.
It's so easy, right?
Right, Retro?
Would you recommend that one?
Oddly enough, Dean, I had a pulled pork yesterday.
Come on.
I did.
It wasn't planned out to be a pulled pork.
I bought a pre-seasoned pork roast.
Threw it in, tasted it delicious, but thought,
I cooked this perfectly.
Shred it up.
sauce.
What kind of barbecue sauce you put in there?
I'm assuming it's barbecue sauce.
Sweet baby raise is what I don't know.
That barbecue sauce I had when Dean came over for the Super Bowl.
That was a high end.
That was a blues hog.
Blues hog.
Who's what?
The barbecue sauce is called blues hog.
Go get some pender.
Oh.
I bought a bottle and it was gone in like two weeks.
You're just doing shots of it in the kitchen while you're cooking.
Some for you.
Some for me.
It blew my doors off.
That was the best.
And again, what makes pulled pork?
It's super,
you season it,
you put it in the oven,
you cook it or in the whatever until it just falls apart.
If it doesn't fall apart,
it's not done.
Just keep cooking it.
It's all cooked.
But this friggin barbecue sauce went on there.
I was,
and you know what?
You know why?
Because I like to cook.
I was pissed right off.
fucking Warner.
It's the best pole pork I've ever had.
I was just standing in the kitchen, the game's on.
Matt Stafford's driving the Rams down the field.
I'm like, got barbecue sauce, like a shit all over my face.
What's happening?
Yeah, go Bengals.
I didn't, Ryan.
Dean, earmuffs.
Dean, earmuffs.
I didn't want to eff it up because he left his house.
I'm like, I've got to get some home runs here.
We've got to make this happen.
Maybe if it goes well, he'll be open to leaving his house more often and thus on the road to recovery.
clearly didn't work, but it was my, I did put it in there for,
that's a good review.
You need some good reviews out there.
It's good for you.
All right, Dean.
Dean, come on back.
Okay.
Were you given a secret recipe or something?
Yeah.
For tomorrow menu.
Secret spices.
Retro's Super Bowl staples tomorrow.
And, and again, now I was going to say bontan meats, it all kind of,
you don't have potatoes.
You've dropped, you've fumbled the bag.
If you don't have potato salad on Sunday.
It's all kind of connects right.
Bontan meets, little Ask Ret for you
tomorrow on the program.
Why not?
Little food questions.
Get them in.
Ask the email address.
Askrette at Flamesnation.ca.
And we'll get to those on the program tomorrow.
Love it.
Yes.
Indeed, dody, duty is what we will do.
And now we talked about yesterday.
It's funny how I feel like we're at the front of the line with stuff.
Because we got talking to you yesterday about service credit union and the
million dollars.
The big share is back.
Now I see it.
I was kind of flipping through the phone.
It's like, oh, service big share.
There's the big share for service credit union.
Saw a commercial on TV.
Oh, service credit union, the big share.
Who told you about it first, guys?
Who told you that this is an unbelievable opportunity to just take your savings account,
put it into service credit union, and you could win one million dollars.
I don't know what the odds are.
There's no way to tell, but this has got to be the smartest thing you could do.

slash win.
Just like you said,
it's not like your pay,
just moving your money.
Just big 500 to the savings over
and then add a million to it
and sit back and enjoy yourself.
Yeah.
You're not your wins right there.
There's much,
uh, blue hog,
whatever you call that sauce.
Blues hog.
Yeah,
that's right.
A million dollars is going to buy a lot of pulled pork.
That's right.
I need a new,
you know what?
So thank you to service credit union
for that.
Um,
I need.
a new slow cooker.
What's the sign of one that's not like a,
just the handle.
I have a,
and in fairness,
I've had it for a while.
Yeah.
I believe it was on the wedding registry.
Oh,
wow.
And the one I live with.
Lord.
That thing a few years ago,
which was what is the plug into the wall?
Does it run on coal?
What are we talking about?
Big mistake.
Anyway,
um,
so it has the,
it's got the metal thing,
right?
And you put the,
almost like a ceramic glass deal inside.
Yeah.
one of the handles is broken off,
but it still works.
You know, you put it there.
You're not carrying a thing around.
But the glass, the ceramic insert,
it's got a crack on it now.
It's time, do you know.
Hey, you had a good run.
It's a good run.
Think all the memories you made together.
And I have the instant pot,
but I feel when you put it on the slow cooker setting,
it's too hot.
It's too much.
Useless.
I like it.
The instant pot has purpose,
but if I need a,
standalone slow cooker.
Am I going to have to leave the house?
Goddain.
Lucky for you, Valentine's Day's coming.
And I know
the person you live with is
for sure listening.
For sure, listening.
You know, you've always been talking about
how we need a new slow cooker.
Well, on the 14th February.
Yeah.
Can't wait that long.
Super Bowl Sunday.
And something,
some sort of a dead animal
is going inside that thing.
Mmm.
Mmm.
Delicious.
Sweaty mouth.
Well,
tomorrow on the program, programming.
Blues hog.
It's a blues hog?
Yeah.
They've got a Chapult.
Oh.
I've still got that brisket downstairs that I haven't made.
What?
Yeah.
New freezer burn it?
That'll help.
Yeah.
It's probably, yeah. It's probably,
come on now.
You got Super Bowl.
Positive attitudes.
Comes out today.
You guys to make this work.
Comes out today.
All right.
The programming note, tomorrow is Thursday.
Darren Drager from TSN usually joins us on Friday.
He is traveling Friday tomorrow.
We're both traveling Friday.
Is he going to Pittsburgh?
I doubt it.
Here's the other good news.
We will have a guest from Vegas to talk about the Super Bowl on Friday.
That's confirmed as well.
So stay tuned for that.
Guests galore.
And they'll tell us hotline.
I don't feel bad about this Friday at all.
Yeah.
No, because you were broken up about it for sure.
prior but now.
It's some Friday.
Yeah.
So yeah,
Dreg's on the show tomorrow.
How about?
Good.
I'll have that big,
Noah Haniffin trade slash extension
to talk about.
Let's go.
He probably wants to go after I do
the questions and the ask ret
in the menu though,
because he'll walk up.
Yeah, yeah.
He always watches that.
Yeah.
Can you just put me on hold
and do the other thing first?
I'll just sit here.
I'll just listen.
I'm starving.
Yep.
Time to eat.
Great talk today, fellas.
Good to see.
Have a great day.
Yeah.
Appreciate you.
Yeah, that's great.
Great analysis that you only get here on Barnburner.
Logging off, 90's gone.
Gizmankov.
He didn't watch the game.
I don't think so.
No.
Can't say for sure, but I'd lean away.
I'm leaning in the nine-minute condensed highlights this morning while he hammered coffee.
Yeah.
Or five.
Yeah, he could go to the short pack.
You just go to the short.
Well, they're not showing you the Marty Pospis.
He was during the headlights on that.
Yeah.
Because it was the 4-1, it'd be like, well, it's 4-1.
What else could there just watch the call?
You're even talking about.
They're winning the cup.
Yeah.
Be Boston?
In the garden?
That'll do it.
Oh, you can do better than that.
What?
That'll do it.
Come on.
A lot.
Not a lot.
Appreciate you.
Subscribe, like, be good to each other.
Get some meat ready for the weekend.
Yes.
Some recipes.
We'll have some Drager.
We'll have some Super Bowl.
That's all coming up over the next couple days.
Here on the program.
Be good to each other.
Can't wait.
See you tomorrow.
Bye, buddies.
