Starting point is 00:00:02 It's the Columbus Blue Jackets. With? Well, yeah, they just wrapped. Here's the, wrapped a four-game road trip. How to go. On a win. All good. 3-2-O-T in Utah.
Starting point is 00:00:13 Utah. It was their first win in five games. So like the flames. They're near the bottom of the standings in the Eastern Conference. Is it a four-pointer proverbial? It is. It absolutely is. We'll show you later.
Starting point is 00:00:28 But the blue jackets, they got home and they said, said, you know what? We got to shake some shit up. Yeah. Shake it up. Who's the champ? That's right. Donno.
Starting point is 00:00:42 Dean is. Did you shake this up? Was this you? Shake this shit up. You gas. No, I wouldn't have fired Dean Everson. I don't think. Pretty new there.
Starting point is 00:00:51 Got really, really drunk with Dean Everson one night at, uh, I forget what the pub was. And what's in a nut? He was the captain. He had captain Canada's team to the men's world championships. Oh, yeah. He brought home. He brought the plate. Nice.
Starting point is 00:01:05 You win? You're proud to win that plate. You get some cold cuts on that place? Some people. Oh, can't drink. You can't drink off the plate. You get cheeses on that platter. I guarantee it.
Starting point is 00:01:16 So Dean Everson was the coach, given the old heave ho. Steve, get your ass out of here. We're done with you. And Steve McCarthy, right? Former Edmonton Ice? Oh, tough guy. No.
Starting point is 00:01:29 That's Sandy. Okay, thank you. Steve, yeah, I remember that. Steve, I believe that's who the assistant was. He was a draft pick of the Hawks, I believe was a very skilled, very skilled guy. He's out of a job. This coaching, tough gigs.
Starting point is 00:01:45 They're still getting paid. I don't know. It's overlax. Coaching gigs aren't, they don't have the long term. No, they don't. With the firing yesterday,
Starting point is 00:01:53 Ryan Huska's 10th in tenure. And I feel like, active NHL coaches, top 10 for Huska. I feel like once you start getting shit canned a few times, it's hard to get back in the mix. They usually give you one strike. And they're like,
Starting point is 00:02:04 well, that was his first. So Evanson got a spot in. Minnesota. And now Columbus. And now paid to not work. What was his problem? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:02:15 Well, the team's last in the east, but again, we look at the roster and we're like, well, world beaters. They were better last year. They were like flames of the east. They were right there. Yeah, you coached them last year. Just like I could coach these guys last year. Toughly.
Starting point is 00:02:28 They traded Yigor Chinikov, who had had said in the summer. I'm not getting along with the coach. I would like a new spot. That was their Yigour. That was their Yigar. Well, your best buds with this guy? Is he a hard ass? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:02:42 We're not buds. We just got drunk with them, yeah. So I guess in that case, yeah, put your buds. Tight. I think this is hasty. No, it's not hasty. They have 11 regulation wins in 45 games.
Starting point is 00:02:56 That's got to be the worst. It's not enough. Vancouver has 10. Oh, yuck. Vancouver's doing a good job. I'm coming out to the beast. I want to go fishing on the coast. Love you.
Starting point is 00:03:07 Call handsome dad, get some mushrooms, fire it up. I got that. You don't want trouble. So yeah, he's out. And you know, you see what's happening in San Jose, Ryan Worsowski, young guy. Yeah, he's ready to give up one of his kids for a win, right? Yeah, that's right.
Starting point is 00:03:27 Can you connect? He can connect. You know, Huska's a young guy. Columbus said, F that. Nope. We want bones. Bones. I don't want some new kid trying to figure it out finding his way. Bones.
Starting point is 00:03:44 Rick Bones will be 71. Wow. I believe on the 25th of January. And he is the new head coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets. I don't know if I like that. I like bones. It's bones to the end of the year. So they are not committed. It's just a one year ticket to the summer.
Starting point is 00:04:03 So you get a test drive. You get a veteran guy. he's got probably relationships from the organization. He understands the system they're saying. But yeah, it's not necessarily the coach of the future. Could be. It feels like that's kind of been his thing the last little bit. He seems to be good at that.
Starting point is 00:04:17 He comes in as well. Well, how effort and hard is it? There's no expectations. It'd be a nice guy. You play everyone. It's in bedside. What's rolling, boys? Ride the new coach bump, right? That's right. Let's go. I'm not as mean as the last guy, am I? Look at me. I'm smiling.
Starting point is 00:04:34 Yeah, but bones, I don't think going to make the playoffs. Perfect. I'm not getting it. You weren't when I got here and you're not now. So I'm in. You can judge away if you want, judgey pants. Yeah, 20.
Starting point is 00:04:47 He's from Moncton, New Brunswick. He has coached a lot. He was a assistant and head coach of the Jets 1.0. Back in the late 80s. Coach the Ottawa Senators, coach the New York Islanders, was an assistant and head coach over many years with
Starting point is 00:05:03 Phoenix, was an assistant, associate in Vancouver for a long time. An assistant associate for Tampa Bay. Yeah, he helped John Cooper rise to superstardom. I think he was there right from the gig. Yeah. Five years in Dallas, two or so is the head coach there, Winnipeg a couple years, and now, oh, HIO.
Starting point is 00:05:25 God, I wish someone would call me at 71 and offer me a couple of Schmell to go coach for a couple months. You're about 1900 games light on the resume in the NHO. How hard is it? Well, that's a lot of time. A lot of time, 1900. Some of the time they put into it is just to job justify. A lot of that.
Starting point is 00:05:44 Trust me. Yeah, trust them. Fakers. Hey, we're going to do some video. See where you pass to the other team? Don't do that. Hey, if I slow this right down to triple slow quadruple, I can really see here that you should have done a backhand sauce
Starting point is 00:06:01 and then jumped over that stick and tilt the world for a backdoor tap-it. Come on. That was wrong with you. Do that. Maybe that's in the bones handbook. Are you stripping them down? Are you jacked for bones? Or what are your thoughts here?
Starting point is 00:06:18 I don't know what Columbus is trying to be, to be honest with you. I thought they had a good year last year. I think there was a lot of emotion last year. Rightfully so. I'd like to see them do well. I don't dislike Columbus. It's in Ohio. It is.
Starting point is 00:06:33 Yeah. Oh, H.I.O. And, but I don't. Who's their stars? Carol Marchenko and Dimitri Voronkov are tied with Zach Werenski for the team lead in goals. Werenski is having another fine season, 47 points and 41 games. A point for game D. 26, 36 a night.
Starting point is 00:06:54 What ice time, D. He's playing. He's a top 5D man in the NHL, fellas. Yeah. He was a Norris finalist last year, I believe, and was probably getting some fifth place votes on the heart because he was huge. Get out of here. Checking them out of here. Really?
Starting point is 00:07:10 Yeah. Some fifth place votes, you said. Well, yeah. A lot of ever, he's a hell. Hey, like, if we're saying Werensky's an elite defenseman, that's the point I'm trying to make. And he is. He's going to be huge for Team USA at the Olympics.
Starting point is 00:07:21 Run them. Run them indeed. Yeah, and it's also one of those things where it's Werencki and then, you know, Marchenko, good, good young players. Flames would love to have a, forone cove kicking around in the walkroom, I would think. But. Big unit? Yeah, it's, you know, Charlie Coil is there.
Starting point is 00:07:37 Adam Fantilli was a high pick. that's an opponent I know. I don't hanging down and walk giggling and talk
Starting point is 00:07:43 make the around around thank you I'm gonna I don't know who they all are okay he's got to finish it
Starting point is 00:07:52 it make me feel real loose like a long neck goose head oh baby that's a one of a line that's right uh
Starting point is 00:07:58 our old friend Sean Monaghan seen Monaghan six goals 22 points six goals or put them on flame score
Starting point is 00:08:06 not high 22 points in 41 games. The points would be better than you. He'd be there. He'd be there. He'd be in Igor territory. Our Igor, I bet.
Starting point is 00:08:18 The Columbus Blue Jackets are fifth in scoring from the blue line. And most of that's Werenck. So that's Werenzki. The Werenzky effect. Denson Matichuk has 21 and 44. Okay, let's see. Jack, name me.
Starting point is 00:08:36 Aside from Warenski, two, Columbus Blue Jackets, Oh, I mean, come on. Oh, boy. I can't do it. Dean just named one. Yeah, I just gave you open. Yeah, but.
Starting point is 00:08:47 Well, you got to get a gutty. He's still hanging around there, although he's hurt. He hasn't played brucey. Yeah, he's not playing. Yeah, it's Damon Severson, Ivan Proverov. Pervrod's a use. Denton Matichuk. Now, he's playing a tie.
Starting point is 00:09:01 He's got 21 points in 44 games. What kind of name is that? Denton. Denton. Denton McCar. Matichick feels very, yeah. Does, doesn't it? Perret.
Starting point is 00:09:11 He maybe has been to the McNutt Prozell. Yeah. They've got former Hitman Igor Zamula. Nope. Okay. Nope.
Starting point is 00:09:22 Dante Fabro. Dee? Yep. Former Penticton v. So I remember him. I thought he was an actor. Interesting. Kent Johnson, a high first round pick.
Starting point is 00:09:32 What's going on with him? Second line winger right now. What about Cillinger? Cillinger is there. They got him on the wing. Did you head out of your hoops, Sylinder? Let's go here. You were going to be a star.
Starting point is 00:09:42 He played right out of his draft class, I believe. He was one pick ahead of course. First year's rookie. He had a really good rookie season. He got dumped. Yeah, same draft class. Was it? Pretty sure.
Starting point is 00:09:54 Cillinger's got five goals. Kent Johnson. Five is not enough for Cole. How many did Kent Johnson have? Four. He's got four goals in 44 games. He is a highly. Remember him coming out of the-
Starting point is 00:10:05 You know what we should do? Michigan. I think those are the guys. Connish Cook it. And I'm losing conifidence. Get something dark. Or not. Oh, Brett, you're just hungry.
Starting point is 00:10:13 Problem is Columbus. They're in the same spots. Why would we be giving up our young guys? Switching to scratch. Oh, goodness. What young guy are you sent? They fired a coach. Are you going to send Jack?
Starting point is 00:10:23 Are you going to send Jack's boy's area out to get them or what? Sure. I'm into that. I don't give a shit. I don't give a shit. Change it up. Cylinder went 12. This freaking core.
Starting point is 00:10:34 That's so good. Let's this man. That was the year. I believe that the flames had. meaningless regular season games while the playoffs were going and gone against Vancouver in the Canadian. I knew there was a Pinder backpack thing with Cylinger. I knew it.
Starting point is 00:10:46 And it was like they wouldn't start Louis Doming because Seder is like, he hasn't earned it. So they ran Markstrom for those last games. One more than they should have. And they fall to 13, not 12. They get Coronado not Cillinger, which in hindsight might be okay. Yeah, you were very often arms about it. Well, you want to pick higher. You might have liked Coronado more anyway.
Starting point is 00:11:02 But God, if it was the other way around, like, whew. I'd be frustrated if I was running things in Columbus though If those are you're two Like Johnson Johnson was really high Catch Joss? Yeah, he's the top three I think he was three or four Top three pick
Starting point is 00:11:18 Fantilli's top three five pick So why? Yeah We've done it once I just how many times can we go to this fucking well So yeah I would you should be expect more And you saw them last year
Starting point is 00:11:36 That's a great example of We don't want to re-biggle It can't be re-re-beaklin Begling We're going to stick to the game plan These guys are shit But they've You know what?
Starting point is 00:11:51 This would be, this would be The office would be saying Listen, all you people Look at Columbus They've been picking the top five Routinely for a long time They've got some very high picks Kid and Lidstrom hasn't played yet
Starting point is 00:12:02 And where are they? Yeah, I'm worried about that guy too Yeah, me too Fix your back Eurecheck's already gone. They picked him sixth overall in 22. Oh my. I think he's in Minnesota now.
Starting point is 00:12:12 You know what? You love to. I do. Johnson went fifth overall in 2021. He has played a lot. Trail Smokey. Is he smoky there? I think so?
Starting point is 00:12:23 Wow. No. Well, maybe. He is from Vancouver, but went to the NCAA. So that would check out a year in Houston. Tell me no. And you said Michigan or Michigan State. He was a Wolverine, as I recall.
Starting point is 00:12:35 Smoky. In 2020, pick five and 12. If you do that right, that can set you up forever. You look at that epic draft class, what was at 04 where the ducks got Perry and gets left? Okay, there's, there's a decade of success. Kent Johnson, Cole Cillinger, five and 12. We're regressing, regressing. Kent Johnson, center, young. Well, we're going to know. Yeah, I guess now. Yeah, that's an issue. Lindstrom, they picked at four. That was the draft. I think we were at.
Starting point is 00:13:09 Yeah, it would have been in Nash, Vegas. That was an interesting pick because coming in, like you said, fix your back. He had back issues missed basically the entire season. I missed almost all the next year and now is playing college. But I don't think he's getting a ton of ice time. Outside of frigging Rick Nash, they have not had a lot of luck with their high. They really haven't. You said Nikita Filetov?
Starting point is 00:13:32 Philotov was just the roll or something. Philly don't backtrack. Wasn't Pinaran. Aaron? No, they got him for Sautau from Chicago. Chicago brought him as a free agent. Who was the defenseman they traded to? Seth Jones.
Starting point is 00:13:46 Yeah. Seth Jones. He's not there. No. Wasn't there a Murray? A defenseman. Ryan Murray went in the hall draft. Yakupov. Yakupov draft. Thank you. Big fan.
Starting point is 00:14:04 Love me, the blue jackets. Yeah, they're up to problems. They do have Jackson Smith. There's a really good left shot D from Calgary that was the last cut from Team Canada. Idiots. Not the Calgary kid. That's just last summer.
Starting point is 00:14:20 They had two first rounders last year. Pieter Andresson Sonson, so I feel like here's the thing. If I'm a bluejackets, I mean, yes, we're sitting at Calgary doing this. You know, Fantilli's, okay, Fantili's young. 2020, all right, sure now. Like you say, Eurocheck has gone.
Starting point is 00:14:39 Mattichuck, okay, he's playing for, yeah, all right, all right. Kent Johnson is, all right, Cole Cylinder, Chinnacoff, well, now he's gone. They've had a lot of suffering. They have been picking high. Yeah. But the high talented guys that they picked haven't, like, there's no explosion there. There's no, there's no star. The Kent Johnson ones where because he scored 30 last year. Like that, or sorry, that's Fantillion I'm looking at until he had 30 last year. They took Liam Fudy in a with a first round pick.
Starting point is 00:15:13 Texier, as a set, he's now great for Montreal. I always like Texie. He was in the player assistance program for a while. That would be the, the kicker is if you go through a lot of years of struggles and non-playoffs and then pick high and then the picks you take don't
Starting point is 00:15:29 develop. This is what probably keeps the owner weary of a full tear-down rebuild. the names sound good though the names do sound good not unlike buffalo five to ten years ago you're like yeah these guys are going to be good players
Starting point is 00:15:45 it's just it might be the second stop if this team's no good and they have a tough time retaining their talent guys don't like hanging around there hey look that guy played for the smokey he did play for the smokers and then we're ready to go Wolverines
Starting point is 00:15:58 he's Wolverine D yeah so we're both right what's he doing for points so what's his trajectory here Well, last year you had 24 goals. Talk about Kent Johnson, by the way. In 57 points of 68, so it's a good year. But this year, four goals and 12 points in 44 games.
Starting point is 00:16:17 That's fine. Evanson's gone. Bones will get them rolling. Bones. Come on, Bones. Anyway, that's a thing where, well, it is a thing. Where the coach, they kind of do good, and then they put the extra squeeze on the next year and it's like the guys get annoyed. It feels like
Starting point is 00:16:39 Evanson and Arneill. Yeah, Eva. Evanson, whatever. And I think that's probably natural because if you're the coach and you're putting your roster construction and you're doing all this, all right, well, 24 goals. He's this stuff. All right. Well, yeah, how old is he's 23? All right. We're going to expect more. And then you get four goals out of the guy, move him to the wing. The, uh, it does feel like when we watched Huska in October, when that nothing was going right.
Starting point is 00:17:06 And he's just coaching his ass off line blender, line blender, line blender. Yeah, you don't plan for a step back. And that's what they've had this year. That's why a veteran like bones. He'll come in, calm, cool, collected. You coach bump. Bones.
Starting point is 00:17:23 Guys love the good guy coach coming in. You know what I mean? Anyway, so that's, that's Columbus. Old friend Sean Monaghan, we noted to do you see her as he heard again he's played almost every game he's played 41 of their 45 six goals though let's get old it sounds crazy to say it but john mannahan is getting old and he's already had a career and a half or two careers were the injuries poor guy can't catch a break on that front yeah right in the mix here for old guys yeah like i feel i feel like he's probably got two or three years after what many of us would have thought. With old trees especially. 31 now. Gosh, we're old.
Starting point is 00:18:10 Monty's 31. We're just fossils. Turn to 32? Next October, yeah. All 31 year olds eventually, hopefully get to 32.
